2. Terrorism Has Plagued The World
While terrorism has plagued the world through many forms since the age of time, it
wasn t until the hijacking of 1972 that caused airports both domestically and
internationally to establish airport security. From one of the first major terrorist
attacks on an aircraft in 1955 to the multiple attacks throughout the 1960s and 70s, for
the first time airports were introduced to armed securityguards, metal detectors, and
explosive detection canines. Over the next two and half decades, airports also saw
the use of U.S. Marshall s aboard flights, and the installations of X Ray machines for
both carry on and checked luggage. While the measures in place did manage to assist
in the arrest of thousands and prevented a number of attacks from... Show more

Airport security has gone through drastic changes since the 2001 World Trade Center
terrorist attack to insure the safety of passengers traveling domestically and abroad
with the creation of the Transportation Security Administration, updated screening
machines, policy and procedures, and vigorous pat down searches.
Weeks away from the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist
attack on the World Trade Center towers, airports across the world are still
continuing to operate with higher security levels with tighter security measures as
the threat to jetliners remains constant. These changes have not been more apparent
than in the United States. With the creation of the TSA in November 2001, one of
their first changes to travel policy was for passengers to show up at least two hours
early to ensure there was enough time for the newly reformed security measures.
While carry on luggage was sent through an x ray machine and passengers through
metal detectors, passengers and their luggage were randomly selected by security
personnel for additional screening that included a physical search of the passengers
carry on luggage. By September 2002, the TSA had officially assumed responsibility
throughout all domestic airports
3. The Pros And Cons Of Plastic Engineering
One might compare the use of genetic modification to having plastic surgery. Those
who were severely burned in fires, born with a cleft palate, or women who have
undergone a mastectomy are often candidates for plastic surgery and rightly so,
but many others undergo plastic surgery merely to fit into society s idealized
concept of perfection. The same goes for the use of genetic modification; there are
good reasons for its use as well as bad reasons. The use of genetic modification to
create genetically modified children in order to help infertile women conceive is a
worthy cause; however, the use of this new technology could lead down a slippery
slope.
On May 5, 2001, the world s first genetically modified children were born into our
world. The United States performed an experiment in which thirty healthy GM
babies were born. This experiment brought forth concerns of the ethics involved.
On the positive side, mothers who would have been considered infertile otherwise
were now able to conceive. Over the years, scientists have made great strides in the
field of infertility: however, with the new CRISPR technology, a whole new door
could be opened for women previously considered barren. To help infertile women, a
fertility specialist would remove the infertile woman s egg, retrieve a female donor s
fertile egg, extract the genetic material that makes that egg fertile, place it back into
infertile female s egg, and finally fertilize it with the father to create a child.
4. The Framework Of The Seven Deadly Sins Of Students
The Seven Deadly Sins of Students, is a writing that talks about the acts that students
do which ultimately prevents them from succeeding. Thomas H. Benton is a well
received author and teacher, earning his Ph.D. in history of American civilization
from Harvard University. He uses the framework of the Seven Deadly Sinswhich he
then uses to observe his class with the troubling behaviour of his undergraduate
students. The sins described don t seem like sins at all, even if one accepts the
religious significance of the term. But they spring from thoughts and behaviors that,
overtime become habits. (Benton TSDSOS) For example, Institutions create a
mindset for students that push them to take the path of least resistance; and instead
of using self denial and self esteem they choose self indulgence. These choices and
sins that they indulge in have consequences that can create more unhappiness and
difficult paths later down the road. The seven sins that are of topic are, the Sloth,
Greed, Anger, Lust, Gluttony, Envy, and finally Pride. These seven sins are the
troubling behavior that students succumb to. The first sin, being the sloth, is the path
that students take to postpone required assignments and readings to then finish at a
later date. This later date usually results in last minute turn ins; doing so prevents the
student from taking the time to learn the material or even proof read their
assignments. The consequences of attempting to finish assignments at the last
5. My Father, The, And Master Chef Of The Heights
By the time I was seven years old, I had become a connoisseur of fine food and a
veritable authority on ethnic cuisine. I developed a sense of gastronomic confusion,
however, because of my father s inability to creatively combine leftovers.
My father didn t believe in wasting a single morsel of food. Consequently, he would
combine leftovers which resulted in such fare as Kielbasi Parmigiana, Pierogies Con

I was exposed to cooking that might not have qualified as haute cuisine. Nevertheless,

As a child, whenever I asked him what I should become when I grew up, he would
always tell me to work hard and do something special with my life, like becoming a

shoulder, and remind me I could become anything I wanted except a shoemaker.
When I was seven years old, my father and I were invited to a wedding reception
that was being held in a church hall near the General Hospital. After the reception,
we walked home past the hospital, and my father instructed me to always say a
special prayer for people who are sick. From that moment, I made it a regular
practice to pray for the sick, and the more I prayed for them, the more I wanted to
help them. Little did my father realize that a simple, well intentioned request would
inspire me to become a doctor.
My dream of becoming a doctor was further nurtured by another role model in my

that come with that.
5. Feature The Camry is made by Toyota. Advantage Toyota is well known for
making high quality vehicles that last. Benefit Buying a Toyota car is a safe choice.
You know you are getting the highest quality possible at a great price.
When trying to sell a product or service, it is crucial to know what a prospective
customer looks like. In the case of the Toyota Camry, the ideal prospect isn t limited
to just one category of people. A future Camry owner can be old or young, married
or single, it does not matter. There isn t one set demographic that all owners fall
into in this scenario. The most important attributes prospects need to possess is a
desire for safety, comfort, and affordability. This can be found in many different
demographics. Potential buyers could be middle aged people looking for a high
quality car they can drive for several years and not have to worry about breaking
down. It could also be someone who is in their twenty s. Most people in their
twenty s aren t going to be able to afford more expensive cars, and the Camry gives
them the quality they are looking for, while still remaining affordable. Additionally,
if they have young children it would be even more appealing since Camry s are known
8. The Inborn Names Of The Morongo Reservation
Set at the extremity of the striking San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, the
Morongo Indian Reservation extends more than 35,000 acres and overlooks the
desert vistas of the Banning Pass. Wild buckwheat, mesquite and chaparral still
flourish here, and the ubiquitous breeze ensures that the air is always fresh and clear.
One of the inborn names of the Morongo Reservation was Malki, and it was located
in what was once called the Wanikik territory. In the mid 19th century, the Serrano
people to the north began journeying to the Malki settlement. They brought with them
the Morongo name derivative from the Serrano name for their people, Maringayam.
Since the late 19th century, the Morongo Reservation has been tenanted by a mix of
Cahuilla, Serrano, Luiseno and Cupeno people.
Irrepressible and ingenious, the Morongo tribe has overcome many hardships. The
Morongo Reservation was one of nine small reservations set aside by President
Grant by Executive Order in 1865. The lands taken into trust by the federal
government did not include land with access to surface water. Accordingly, tribal
members had to travel miles each day just to acquire water and to forage for food.
Through their industriousness and capability to survive in an unstable physical and
political environment, the Morongo tribe began a small bingo venture in 1983.
On February 25, 1987, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that neither the state of
California nor Riverside County could control the bingo and card
9. Dense Drizzly Analysis
How does Doyle create a sense of mystery in Ch3? Conan Doyle uses uses a
combination of literary devices to build up tension and create a sense of mystery I
chapter 3 Doyle uses negative words and descriptions of the atmosphere with the
motif of darkness to bring the reader into the mysterious and miserable atmosphere
of a 19th century London. The case of Mary Morstan is presented to start on a
September evening . This particular choice of month brings the reader into the
cold, foggy and often miserable atmosphere of September. The atmosphere is
highlighted by the sentence the day had been a dreary one,and a dense drizzly fog
lay low upon the great city. Doyle uses alliteration as shown in dense drizzly to
illustrate and intensify the imagery of London in the 19th century. The repetition of
the d sounds can bring the reader onto a journey out into the city streets because
they can remind us of the rolling of wheels such as the ones of the four wheeler
Watson,Holmes and Miss Morstan travelled in, and suggest the thudding of horse
hooves on the pavement which a Victorian audience would be very familiar with.
Doyle gives hints of mystery by using the motif of fog and darkness. The
combination of the two() creates a mysterious setting where nothing is clearly
visible(under the cover of darkness )The word low implies that the mystery is very
close to the ground on which Holmes stands on and suggests he alone is putting
himself towards an unknown destination

For some reason back in the fifties the bible was a good source for movies, and you
have to understand one of the reasons will be found in the strength of genre
movies. For the director, there were certain advantages with working within a given
genre. Because the characters, the plot, and the conventions were already
established, they provided the director with a kind of cinematic shorthand greatly
simplified the task of storytelling. (Boggs, M., Petrie, D., 2008 7th Ed.) The
original movie was shot in 1923 as a silent film which was also directed by Cecil
Demille. The cast of the 1956 remake of the Ten Commandmentswere cast from the
original silent film. The production of this film was good for that time period. The
production crew had it easy when it came to the cast, due to most of the cast came
from the original film from 1923. The props, scene, and setting that the production
crew used were great, for an example in the film Ten Commandments, the scene with
Moses bringing down the ten commandments from the mountain top after talking
with God. When you look at that scene the production crew does a good job with
the dark clouds and the fire like orange colors in the setting of the clouds. The
mountain that was in the back ground of Moses really stood out in that scene, when
Moses gave the ten commandment to the children of Israel, he stood on the mountain
and with his red over garment blowing in the wind
11. Rhetorical Analysis Of Reagan s Farewell Address
The Usage of Rhetoric in Ronald Reagan s Farewell Address Due to the rapidly
changing America, in his farewell address, Ronald Reagan expresses the need for
unification of America, and America s culture. In Reagan s address, he uses many
rhetorical devices to advance his purpose of unifying America, for instance, Reagan
utilizes tone, syntax, and pathos to portray his pride, hopefulness, and patriotism for
America. He uses these devices to show Americans of the unification America needs.
Throughout the text, Reagan uses tone to express his pride for America. When he

It expresses the diversity of America, and how the no matter how different the
people of America are from one another, they have one common want: Freedom.
This quotation also appeals to pride, hopefulness, and patriotism, in the way that
he describes the way he sees America, a strong city full of diverse people, he sees a
country that has been through a lot of conflict and hardship, but nonetheless
survived it all. He sees a strong city, and the rest of America does too. Since he
uses this imagery to depict his vision of America, it appeals to the reader s sense of
pride and patriotism. Throughout his Farewell Address, Reagan employs syntax
to advance his purpose of the unification of America, when he says We ve got to do

of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It s fragile; it

feeling of pride and patriotism to the audience and expresses that America is a very
prominent symbol of freedom, people from all around the world come to America
because when they think of America, they think of total freedom. Reagan also
emphasizes how Americans need to teach their children of the pride and spirit of
America, for the betterment of America s future society. Moreover, points out three

14. External And Internal Conflict In The Necklace By Guy
De...
Some people experience specific conflicts throughout their lives that can affect the
way they view themselves and others. An example of this is in the short story The
Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, where Madame Loisel is constantly suffering the
mental battle of wanting everything she does not have. Jewels, necklaces, and
riches all the materialistic things that Madame Loisel sought after her whole life,
cause her to display an ungrateful attitude towards herself and her husband. Once
she finally receives something that she wanted, a beautiful necklace borrowed
from a friend, she loses it and in order to replace it, she becomes forced to borrow
more money from friends. Consequently, she had to spend many years of her life to
pay back every person she borrowed money from, when in result, the necklacewas a
replica and was much cheaper than what she had thought. Madame Loisel undergoes
a series of external and internal conflicts, causing the idea that it is important to
remain truthful and appreciative to be discerned.
Her persistent mindset of wanting and needing more, is how her internal conflict
developed. All of Madame Loisel s issues relate back to her internal fascination
with becoming incredibly rich and valued by her peers. The text states, She had
longed so eagerly to charm, to be desired, to be wildly attractive and sought after.
(1) Madame Loisel s mindset was simply set on materialistic things and being
respected amongst her peers. Even throughout the years, her idea of perfection
never changed a bit. The story reads, But sometimes, when her husband was at the
office, she sat down by the window and thought of that evening long ago, of the
ball at which she had been so beautiful and so much admired. (5) Ten hard and
stressful years later, Madame Loisel is still under the impression that everything she
has must be beautiful and valued. This situation expresses irony because although
she is beautiful, she still feels a desire to receive expensive things. The text states,
She was one of those pretty and charming girls born, as though fate had blundered
over her, into a family of artisans... She suffered endlessly, feeling herself born for
every delicacy and luxury. (1) Although she is beautiful
15. Ernest Hemingway Lost Generation Analysis
The 1920s was a time of loss for the United States. After seeing countless deaths of
soldiers in a war many didn t believe in, the years after World War I were times
when people lost hope in classic principles such as bravery and courage. The Lost
Generation were people who lived through the war. Ernest Hemingwayshows major
themes of the Lost Generationthrough his stories after the war; he shows pursuit of
decadence in Hills of White Elephants, impotence through Soldier s Home, and
idealism through both stories (O Connor).
While there is always some pursuit of decadence in all people throughout the ages,
the years after World War Iwere times when hedonistic views were most prevalent.
The woman, Jig, in Hills of White Elephants says, I wanted to try this new drink.
That s all we do, isn t it look at things and try new drinks? (Hemingway 186) A
perfect example of decadence is excessive drinking; this is closely connected to
people s desire to forget about the horrors of World War I through extravagant ways
of living. Along with drinking, we could see many of the rich traveling without
purpose or direction; we see the man and Jig doing just that. The man sees their
suitcases and describes, There were labels on them from all the hotels where they
had spent nights (Hemingway 189). The amount of labels indicates they have been
traveling for a long time. The man in this short story has no intention of settling
down or ending their travels. Even with the new prospect of a baby in the picture,
we can clearly see that the man does not want to be tied down. Settling down means
facing reality. The 1920s were a time of pursuit: pursuit of decadence, which
eventually led to depravity.
While World War I led to great adventures and loss of oneself in pleasure, the
effects of the war had quite different results for others in the Lost Generation.
Instead of an excess of motivation for the finer things in life, there was a lack of
motivation for anything. Impotence affected many of The Lost Generation and
Hemingway demonstrates this theme in Soldier s Home . Krebs, the main character
of this short story, is seen just out of World War I, and back living with his family in
his hometown. Krebs no longer has
16. How Is Boyz N The Hood Related To Sociology
The film Boyz N the Hood, deals with the life of two young African Americans named
Tre and Ricky. They are trying to make it out of South Central Los Angeles but face
many obstacles due to poverty, crime, and violence. There are many theories that
present themselves throughout the film. For example, labeling/stigma theory is a
very frequent theory because it happens not only with the law and authority
stigmatizing the African Americans living in South Central Los Angeles, but also with
own members of the community stigmatizing others in the same community as well.
Other theories that are also very frequent, are strain theory and social disorganization.

According to Agnew, strain is just something that people do not like and if a
person does not like the emotions they are feeling then crime can become a way of
trying to get rid of those emotions. For example, the loss of Ricky is the removal of
a positive stimulus for Doughboy and his way of dealing with his strain was to
turn to crime. Doughboy felt that the only way for him to feel better was to seek
revenge on those who killed his brother. He has a behavioral adaptation to strain
according to Agnew, which is when a person wants to maximize positive outcomes
and minimize negative ones and this can result in a person wanting to seek revenge.
Ricky was a positive stimulus in Doughboy s life because he loved his brother and
he would have done anything to protect him. Once he lost the only family who cared
about him, vengeance was his way of coping with the

18. Social And Cultural Contributions Of Migrations And...
Social and cultural elements of opinions towards migrants and relations between
locals and foreigners are not always easy. In many countries around the world,
migrants and migration are constantly being debated. However, there have been
societies like the Nomadic Turks who helped developed civilizations. The modern
world needs to learn how to resolve the issues of migration from these nomadic
cultures. Between 1000 and 1500 CE, the fast movement of human interaction led to
the rapid movements of technology and other advancements that drives our history.
Multicultural associations were established and unite the societies of Europeand Asia.
The migration of the clans and tribes of the Turkish peoples has fundamental
significance as they settled in other societies and learned new cultures. Modern
globalization has inspired a rise in migration both near and far, reinforced by many
influences. These ancient places are linked our modern successes and problems that
have occurred and are occurring today as history tends to repeat itself. Most of us
would agree that civilization started in the ancient area of Mesopotamia. Nomadic
Turks became noticeable in the history of Eurasia between the eleventh and the
fifteenth centuries. The Turks are ethnolinguistic groups of Central, Eastern, Northern
and Western Asia as well as parts of Europe and North Africa. They share a variety of
certain cultural traits, common ancestry and historical backgrounds to Mongolia and
East Central Asia.

24. Outsourcing Of The American Dream
As more and more students graduate, they begin to look for work; hoping for a job
capable of paying off their debts and making their chosen degree worthwhile. In
America, we are running into the problem of a lack of jobs, requiring a degree or
not. From service jobs to white collar jobs, ...more than 14 million jobs are
vulnerable to being outsources offshore. (Roberts).College graduates that are native
to America are struggling to find work due to the outsourcingof jobs, in turn
damaging our economy. It is common sense that the more jobs we give away, the
less jobs there will be for newly college graduates to work. Although they were once
known as the jobs of the American Dream , they are now simply not American.
Outsourcing used to not worry me, because I thought the jobs that were outsourced
were the minimum wage, labor required jobs but I was wrong. These are not only
call center operators, customer service and back office jobs, but also information
technology, accounting, architecture.....etc. (Roberts). It used to be that if you
spent the time and money to earn a degree, you would almost be guaranteed a job.
Now days, even the jobs that require 4+ years of school are being sent overseas,
leaving no hope for the new generations entering our work force. Not only is this
outsourcing causing companies to lose their best employees, but also the consumers
that buy their products. Employees displaced by foreigners and left unemployed or

What are the benefits, strengths and weaknesses associated with the company?

It has attempted to rebuild toward a more modern appeal to the young mind set. It
wants to expand its services to students and teens. Of course it seems logical; as
American express is already a family service is wants to invade and provide to
everyone within the family. With the ability to do this, they are able to gain more
loyal customers. For example, I am 20 I get my first American express card; the
likelihood of me changing to another financial service would be 99%.
Strong brands are able to hypnotize customers by the power of their brand. Through
gaining some sort of control over customers; it can be seen that branding is a sort of
restriction of free competition. This is precisely the motivation of brands marketing
their product or service: locking consumers in and competitors out.
3) Understanding new needs is the best of our sources. How has American Express
leveraged on brand into customer segments and created value through different
card and program offerings? The main benefit of American express is Ownership
experience . They have created happier and loyal customers by the member since

guide to let both parties know when is something is wrong. American express

28. Analysis Of A Lock Of Hair And A Wounded Heart
A Lock of Hair and a Wounded Heart Throughout the course of history and its
literature, authors and poets have served as messengers for the times in which they
lived, whether it be about political upheaval or social constructs or the lives of the
common man. One way this was accomplished was through satire. Alexander Pope,
whom of which lived in the literary Restoration period and wrote the poem, The
Rape of the Lock, in 1714, provides a work as an excellent example of satire. He
parodies the upper classes favorite literature (epic, heroic poetry) to mock the
absurdity and irrationality of the upper class. Using the common tropes of divine
intervention, hyperbole, and lofty language, a gleefully sarcastic tone emerges to
allow the reader to see through the faux seriousness regarding the loss of a strand of
hairfrom a noble woman. In numerous works of epic poetry and that of the classic
style, an invocation to divine spirits and gods invited a sense of vindication and
importance in a work. Works like Homer s long beloved Odyssey among others
almost completely rely on divine intervention to effectuate the plot and justify actions
of either the protagonist or the antagonist. Pope crafitly uses this common tactic in
such works to parody the highbrow love for them. In the case of Belinda, her beauty
is such to rival nymphs and Aphrodite; she is incontestably divine in human form,
made of love and youth and flowering nature. That beauty, however, is soiled when a

29. Pius XII Rationale
What was Pope Pius XII s rationale for not explicitly condemning the Nazi
persecution of the Jews? (How can we explain his diplomatic or strategic approach to
this issue?)
World War II was a contentious period in the long blighted history of Europe. By
1942 most of Europe was under a totalitarian regime, experiencing the most
conscientious effort to eradicate a race of people in history, the Holocaust. A
spectator of this carnage was the Catholic Church, whose leadership remained silent
towards the Holocaust. Pope Pius XII chose to combat the Nazis through quiet
diplomacy, never explicitly condemning the Nazi s treatment and massacre of the
Jews. Pius XII s silence was prompted by a number of factors, which he believed
were necessary to protecting the European Jews. At the beginning of the war, Pius
XII chose to leave any condemnation of the Nazis to the local bishops because he
believed that they were in a better position to assess the dangers posed by the
oppressive regimes. Pius XII felt that if had condemned the Nazis, he would have
endangered the Jews, citing that when a Catholic Bishop in Belgium spoke out
against the Nazi s 20,000 Jews were killed, if he had condemned the Nazis a
possible 400,000 Jews could have been killed in response. This rationalization comes
from the idea that in order to avoid exacerbating the situation, Pius XII would have to
remain silent against the Nazis. Pius XII s silence can be further explained by his
willingness to negotiate with the
30. The Importance Of Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is a prerequisite to rationality. This means that there must be a
problem solving mechanism that seeks to conclude on the expected outcomes. As
such, critical thinking is tied around finding solutions to a problem. It is important
to note that there is a bias towards the end result to determine whether critical
thinking was employed. This makes sense because failing to find a solution to a
problem cannot be classified as critical thinking. As Steven Johnson said in Where
Good Ideas Come from, it is important to incorporate critical thinking in a problem
solving process to ensure that the desired outcome is achieved (Johnson, 2010). He
states that good ideas come from chaotic environment, even providing a photo of a...

What is more, critical thinking encompasses the use of various techniques that
translate into an exciting process towards problem solving. As such, Reiter Palmon
and Illies (2004) emphasize that any problem, when handled creatively, translates into
an environment whereby there is engagement, collaboration, and dialogue in the
development of solutions. As a result, when critical thinking is applied effectively, it
assists an individual to create solutions and positive experiences that lead to the
development of new ideas. Further, in reference to Reiter Palmon and Illies (2004),
critical thinking denotes an engaging process that is reliant on the use of various
intellectual skills coupled with activities. The activities and intellectual skills are
focused towards the evaluation of information, making assumptions, and sparking a
thinking process that is disciplined. Hence, an effective critical thinking process is
noteworthy towards ensuring that an individual can assess information
comprehensively. Reiter Palmon and Illies (2004) further believe that critical
thinking is a necessary part of the creative problem process since it assists in the
identification of false ideas that may impede the creation of solutions to various
problems. Critical thinking is equally based on

Analysis of Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a very well know poem by Robert
Frost. The poem appears to be very simple, but it has a hidden meaning to it. The
simple words and rhyme scheme of the poem gives it an easy flow, which adds to
the calmness of the poem. The rhyme scheme (aaba, bbcb, ccdc, dddd) and the
rhythm (iambic tetrameter) give the poem a solid structure. The poem is about the
speaker s experience of stopping by the dark woods in the winter evening with his
horse and admiring the beauty of the fresh fallen snow in the forest. Then, the speaker
projects himself into the mind of his horse, speculating about his horse s practical

why he stopped, may be he doesn t know himself. May be, he is comparing the
beauty of nature to something, but on a symbolic level, the snow strongly reminds
me that the poem is set in winter, and which is also widely represented as the image
of death.
In the second stanza, I see that the speaker wonders about what his horse is thinking
which shows his interests are also in the outside world too, like his horse. He also
takes certain pleasure seeing the scene from what he imagines to be his horse s
perspective. I think his horse is practical in nature, he thinks, while the speaker sits
there dreaming, watching the snow fill up the woods. He just stands there
dreaming, and thinking about his horse s feelings is the one thing that brings him
back to reality. Death comes again in the typical image of night, as we re told this
is the darkest evening of the year. Also, it can either be taken literally as the most
lightless night, or it can be taken as the night of the darkest emotions. I think that it is
a combination of the two, a dark moonless winter night in which the speaker
experiences some form of depression or loneliness.
In the third stanza, the speaker is brought back to reality. He s still drawn to the
scene, evidenced by the way he notes the quietness of the country after hearing the
harness bells shake. Although he s considered the needs of his horse to take journey
towards home, he can t easily draw himself away from the beauty of the

Corporate structures remained largely unchanged between the end of World War
II and 1980 but that was all about to change. Competition from Japan, the desktop
PC and the dawn of the information age forced GE to rethink its operational model
and search for a strategy that would enable them to remain competitive as the
century ended. Welch quickly assessed that GE was too big and too slow to
maintain its current market positions much less grow them. The strategic planning
model Welch inherited held nine layers between idea and decision with over 200
personnel involved in the process, hardly lean and agile . John Boyd developed
what he called the OODA Loop to describe winning in air combat maneuvers. The
OODA Loop consists of a cycle of four steps; Observe, Orientate, Decide, Act
(OODA), Boyd argued that when two aircraft are engaged in a dogfight the pilot
who has the fastest OODA Loop cycle will win. The OODA Loop found advocates
not only in the U.S. military, but also in the realms of business and sports anywhere
a competitor seeks and edge. (McIntosh, 2011). Welch recognized that if GE was to
win against the completion he needed to cycle its strategic planning OODA Loop
faster. He responded by eliminating 5 layers of bureaucracy and over 50% of the
planning staff. We used to have department managers, sector managers, subsector

33. Delight In The Iliad
According to what Edmund Burke demonstrated in his On the Sublime and the
Beautiful, 1756, two terminologies, delight and sublime , were defined. As declaring
that the self preservation would eventually lead to pain and danger, Edmund says that
people are delightful when they have a clear sense of the consequences of self
preservation, but are not affected by them; meanwhile, sublime excites the delight .
By connecting these definitions to the Homeric Hymn, I view The Iliadas the perfect
match of Edmund s interpretations. Gods in the Iliad need human beings only
because their pain and suffering can fulfill god s selfish pursuing of delight and
sublime . Gods look for delight on personal wills by intervening or not involving, and
multitudinous pains originated from god s process of pursuing sublime .
Certain gods pursue delight by harming people on their personal wills. Apollo, the
god of the sun, has been a typical reflection of how selfish all gods deal with
mortals in the Iliad. At the beginning of the story, Apollo had already swept a fatal
plague through the army men were dying and all because Agamemnon spurned
Apollo s priest (I 11 12). The entire cause of spreading the plague was that the
daughter of one of his priests was captured as spoil of winning a battle by
Agamemnon, the leader of Achaean army. By only defending his illusory reputation
and the feedback for his prayer, Apollo led Achaean innocents suffer from plagues.

The effects of British imperialism in India were bad. The British ruined India s
economy making the lives of Indians harder. They took over the Indian government,
causing the Indians to become dependant on them. Eventually the pressure built up
and the Indians had a murderous rebellion, The Sepoy Mutiny. Next, due to the
inherent racism inside the British they constantly kept the Indians at a level below
them. This imperialistic mindset of the British which consisted of greed and hate,
caused all of this harm to come to India.
There were many sources used for this paper. One of the primary sources used was
Gandhi because he was able to unite people of India against the forces of British
imperialism. The other sources that were used were secondary sources and came
from books, news articles, and databases. These sources were used because they
provided an objective third person point of view of what had happened. What these
sources showed were the cultures of India and England, their economies, politics,
lifestyles, and how British imperialism worked.
In this paper an important word to know is imperialism. Merriam Webster defines
imperialism as the policy, practice, or advocacy of extending the power and
dominion of a nation especially by direct territorial acquisitions or by gaining
indirect control over the political or economic life of other areas; broadly : the
extension or imposition of power, authority, or influence. The sources used in this

Recent Commonwealth Parliaments have confirmed that the ability of governments
to implement their mandates is more a function of the will of the Parliament than the

In recent years, the ability for governments to implement their mandates has shifted
from being a function of the people s will to that of parliament s. A mandate is the
authority provided by voters to a successful political party to pursue its policies in
parliament. Governments can justify their dominance of the lower house by arguing
the will of the people is expressed through elections. The government s electoral

Firstly, a government s claim to a majoritarian mandate can reduce Australian
politics to an electoral democracy. The opposition might be able to criticise
government policy but according to this theory they have no right to amend, block

pressure groups and the media to simply channel public opinion. Broader
participation in the political process is limited by the government s claim to an all

This paper is a research project that uses data from the British Election Study. The
study has responses from 2987 participants selected at random for the survey. The
survey asks a variety of questions regarding the elections and the perceptions of
the participants. The questions include responses for voting preferences, issues
faced in the elections of 2015, inclination of the voter towards left or right, taxation
and spending views, views of respondents regarding immigration, economic status
and so forth. The response scales used are close ended with multiple choice and
Likert scale questions on a scale of one to ten being used. Due to the large amount
of data and the variety of information asked, this report will restrict itself to testing
a few hypotheses, which will be targeted towards specific areas, and which can be
proved or disproved through use of cross tabulation analysis based on data obtained
in the survey. It has been noted that the economic status of a voter tends to impact
the political leanings of the voter. It was noted in a survey carried out in the USA
that wage levels were an indicator of voter preferences where people who earned less
than $70,000 noted to lean towards the liberal, Democratic Party, while those who
earned more tended to be more conservative in leaning towards the Republican Party
(Thompson, 2012). Another study conducted in Malaysia concluded that voters

him by others. That s his own way of showing courage. His beliefs may be peculiar,
but if anyone knows anything about courage, it d be him. Mr. Warren may not
present himself in the best light, but he s definitely a man who showcases bravery,
empathy, and kindness at times. Physically, Mr. Warren is a skinny man with
stooped shoulders and tattered clothes. His posture doesn t do him much justice. It
demonstrates a lack of confidence in himself. The way Mr. Warren dresses shows
that he is not a very wealthy man at all. He wears summer topcoats in the middle of
Winter, uses borrowed shorts, and owns the same black shoes and black socks.
Maybe he saves his money, but the clothes he wears definitely points to a lack of
wealth. Despite his state of finance, Mr. Warren is always... Show more content on

Warren can be seen by most as a weak, poor, and hopeless man on the surface, but
know that he has a lot more depth than that. People judging Mr. Warren based on
how he appears is how Mr. Warren died in the first place. Even when he acted with
true heart, Mr. Warren was still oppressed by almost everyone he knew. No matter
how courageous you are on the inside, being bullied from every corner can have a
big effect on you. It s not his fault that his career at Morgan Military Academy ended
the way it did, because despite his best efforts, Mr. Warren cannot convince the
pupils of the school that he is a good
43. Values Of American Values
We the people of the United States, value nothing of importance and take a great
deal of what they have for granted. There are many things that Americans value and
a few really are positive values, but definitely not all American values are important.
All of these values have something in common though and that is they all are based
off of how other peoplesee each other. These values are money, possessions, physical
features, religion, and how Americans idolize celebrities and view social status.
Something that almost all Americans value the most is money. Money, everyone
needs it and everyone wants more of it, no matter how much they already have.
Americans do tend to be greedy and want all the money they can receive because
without money you can t obtain something in this country. This is negative because it
shows that Americans always want more. But there is a little bit of positive in this
because it encourages people to get out and work so they can make more money.
Money is something that all Americans want, and it is negative or something like that

Possessions, everyone no matter who they are or what they already have wants
something else. For example, some kids want the new video game even if they
already have a bonanza of them, or some kids want more shoes. The reason everyone
wants these things is it makes them popular and more attractive with their friends.

44. Analysis Of The Queen Bee And Her Court
Trying to find individuality in a world of social expectations is the most trying
challenge any one person is expected to overcome. The Queen Bee and Her Court
by Rosalind Wiseman gives readers an in depth look at high school cliques and
social hierarchies, and the effects of peer pressure while trying to find one s self.
From the Queen Beewho utilizes her power to control the wannabes, to the target who
is just waiting for the end of high school, everyone can see themselves as at least one
of the author s stereotypes. Before starting this assignment, I will admit that I was
skeptical of the idea I could even possibly learn anything from this article. I asked
myself How can the author really know how high school is? Over time, however, I
realized the truth in everything that she wrote. High school is a place to figure out
individuality and gain a sense of self. It is hard, however, to do so when there are
so many social expectations and societal rules to follow. As I pondered the truth of
the difficulty of these expectations, I realized that not only is this exemplary of
high school; however, it carries on throughout college and even into careers. No
matter where life takes someone on their path, there will always be a Pleaser, there
will always be a Target, and there will always be Sidekicks and Queen Bees. The
most important thing is learning to co exist with the peer pressurethat comes with the
ever repeating social patterns. As author Collin Hanks
45. An Analysis of Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose
In reaching the verdict, the jurors reconsider both their understanding of the case and
their understanding of themselves. Discuss
Twelve Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose in 1957, portrays the intense
discussion between 12 jurors in the American jury about a 16 year old boy, who is
accused of killing his own father, and charged with premeditated homicide , the most
serious charge in court. It explores the flaws of human nature, and the impacts of
misinterpretations of the case can have on the defendant. However, they play also
illustrates when jurors reassess the case and themselves, they will finally follow the
judge s words, which is to separate the facts from the fancy. Throughout the play, all
jurors reconsiders about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
