Medical involvement included pharmacological intervention. An infusion of Sotalol 40mg was
administered intravenously at approx 0930 over thirty minutes with continuous cardiac monitoring.
Sotalol, an antiarrhythmic drug, depresses the sinus heart rate, decreases atrioventricular conduction,
decreases cardiac output and decreases systolic and diastolic blood pressure (Bryant, Knights, amp;
Salerno, 2003). As the patient was already hemodynamically compromised, a bolus of fluid
(Gelofusion 500mls) was administered prior to the Sotalol infusion. The aim was to increase the
circulating volume and raise blood pressure. Vital signs remained stable during the infusion,
however the heart rate was neither converted to sinus rhythm or reduced to a normal rate.
At 1130 a second antiarrhythmic drug, Amiodarone 150mg, was administered via intravenous
infusion. Its action is unknown however is thought to prolong the action potential duration
(Siddoway, 2003). Similar to the Sotolol no effect was noted with the rate or rhythm. The patients
blood pressure remained low, 96/67 and heart rate fluctuating between 100 130 beats per minute.
The patient was asymptomatic with his blood pressure but remained sweaty and lethargic. He
received further intravenous fluids whilst the medical officer discussed his presentation with the
cardiology team.

written by Marjorie Shostak is a book about a woman named nisa of the !kung people. It entails
the stories of her struggles and the many horrific tragedies in her life and how it shapes who and
how she is. The book Is basically an interview of a fifty year old nisa, it is written in her
perspective of what it is like to live in such a society. She suffered quite a few devastating
tragedies as aforementioned which included, the death of four of her children, two as infants and

When anyone tried to pick on me she would help me and it also helped to the fact that she was
popular and all the boys wanted her and what she said was taken as gospel. She always had my
back even when my mom was whipping me she d make jokes about my mom having the
propensity of killing me because I was small which made my mom stop at times. It is very
similar to the way Nisa describes her older brother Dau and his protection over her except it s the
other way around . Nisa tells of stories of Dau and how she looks up to him time and time again.
She remembers that some occasions Dau would bring her mongongo nuts because it is her
favorite. In another occasion Nisa s older brother would intervene when their parents treat her
punitively because Nisa would sometimes disobey what her told her not to do. In conclusion,
shostak acquired a lot of knowledge from her stay with the !kung people. She learned that their
culture is not really different from that of western civilizations, though their culture is seen as
embryonic in terms of technology and medicine. They are thought of as primitive and looked down
on because they do no project the image of technologically sound people. Despite all these the
!kung civilization is similar to our civilization by the social bonds we share with one another, love,
hate, promiscuity, family we love and others we hate to

Good morning, I said as I walked into room 34. I picked up the patient s chart and looked through
it. So you ve been experiencing speech difficulties, headaches, nausea, and drowsiness? I asked.
Yeah. I m sure it s nothing, though, Mrs. Gallagher replied. How long have you had these
symptoms? I questioned. About a year.
Why didn t you come in earlier?
I always thought it was nothing but then the headaches got worse and my husband made me come
in.
I stared at her chart for a good 10 minutes before it hit me. I ll, um, come back later, I said as I
walked out before Mrs. Gallagher could say anything. I ran to find the head of neurosurgery, Dr.

Brown. He was in the waiting room with a woman, who looked to be in her late thirties, crying on
his shoulder. He never really liked being extremely close to other people. I could see the awkward
look on his face. I waited for him to be done to talk to him. Dr. Brown, I said. Not now, Dr. Walker.
I m kind of busy. he said as he was walking away. I followed him. I think one of my patients could

After we got there I waited for the scans to come up. She had a brain tumor and by the location
