Introduction Diabetes is a chronic illness that effects a large number of the population, 243,125 New
Zealanders were diagnosed according to the 2013 census (Diabetes New Zealand, 2014a). Diabetes
mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes unstable hyperglycaemia resulting from a defect in insulin

Jocasta as a Tragic Hero Essay

Upholding Jocasta as the Tragic Hero
What makes a tragic hero? Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good.
They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a
tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the
story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles
Oedipus the King, she posses all three. Yet she is not truly considered a tragic hero, but a tragic
character by many. However seeing as it is the character of Jocasta that sets the story in motion, and
she posses the qualities in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because she thinks that she and Laius were able to avoid the prophecy, she gives little credence to
what the oracle says (Sophocles 1.1. 784 796). She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to
lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself,
and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the
words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with
ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying
that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and
offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not
yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed.
Hubris
Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in
them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming
pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic
downfall.
The Reversal
Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. Such as when an action backfires on
the person, much the way that abandoning Oedipus

The Seventh Man Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay Having a best friend is like having another sibling only you actually get along
with this one. Most of you would probably do anything and everything to making sure that your best
friend is okay, right? In the passage The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami he tells the story of how
he could have saved his best friend s life but chose not to. Mr. Murakami should very much have to
live with the guilt and sorrow of not saving his friend K. Many people risk their lives everyday to help
citizens out that they barely know. Not everyone sadly can be saved but these people try their best.
Guilt is a very strong emotion to have to live with just ask the soldiers in the passage The Moral Logic
of Survivor Guilt by Nancy Sherman. Those men and women come home after watching close friends
pass away in front of them and feel guilty for still being alive ( Sherman pg. 153). These people don t
have the time or choice to save their buddies like Murakami did. Sometimes, even our neighbors can
save our lives. In the broadcast The Key to Disaster Survival? Friends and Neighbors by Shankar

This statement can be supported depending on what your opinion is. Or perhaps I simply froze,
overcome with fear ( Murakami pg. 139). However, my position is stronger because throughout the
story evidence is shown that Haruki had a choice to save K but ran away to save his own life first. I
told myself to run over to K, grab hold of him, and get out of there. It was the only thing to do. I knew
that the wave was coming and K didn t know. As clearly as I knew what I ought to be doing, I found
myself running the other way running full speed towards the dyke, alone ( Murakami pg. 138).
Murakami had always protected K but this time he left him alone to be vulnerable and in the end

Vertical Rocket Altimeter Experiment
The ratio seven to thirteen never gained any altitude, remaining at zero for every launch. They merely
burned and sputtered, then the ejection charge went off without ever getting off the ground. As a
result, all of its values, mean, median, mode, range, even standard deviation, are zeroes. This means
that all values are therefore significant within its set of values. The ratio ten to ten achieved liftoff for
two of its three launches, though only one of them actually escaped the guidance rod used to keep the
rocket going straight up. The one that did not travel upward instead burned and melted its way through
its PVC casing. The data set s values, five feet, two feet, and zero feet, have no mode. Their mean is
two and one third feet with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the chemical formula, 5 C12H22O11 + 48 KNO3 → 24 K2CO3 + 36 CO2 + 55 H2O+24 N2, the
ratio of oxidizer to fuel is 48:5 in moles, or 4852.8 grams of potassium nitrate to 1711.5 grams of
sucrose, which simplify to 2.8 grams of oxidizer per gram of fuel. This means that the potassium
nitrate is used up 2.8 times faster than the sugar, therefore requiring more potassium nitrate to sugar.
None of the ratios tested have this exact proportion, in fact all of the ratios have a smaller percentage
of oxidizer than is advised, promoting the conclusion that the potassium nitrate is the limiting reactant,
running out first. The ratios simplify to as follows: 7:13 has 0.54 grams of oxidizer per gram of fuel,
10:10 has a 1:1, and 13:7 being has 1.86 grams per gram of fuel. One would notice that as the ratio of
oxidizer per fuel increases, the launch height also increases. It can therefore be determined that as one
gets closer to the ratio of 2.8:1, the engines serve more positively, proposing a direct correlation
between the two. This serves an explanation as to why the thirteen to seven ratio created the best
results, whereas the other rockets created little to no

King Henry Viii Influence
King Henry VIII was one of the most infamous monarchs in English History. King Henry VIII gained
legitimacy through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the Coercion
Theory and the killing of his wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian Theory and
becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the power from his father successfully which led him to
gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his wives in order to show power.
Finally, King Henry VIII became Protestant in order to retain authority. The first step in his journey to
retain authority was to gain legitimacy. Legitimacy, the first step of many steps to retaining authority.

And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play, Machiavelli
s influence may have been more direct; but, in any event, Machiavellianism is a valid and serviceable
term for describing the harsher political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it applies, in turn, to
Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry (McBride 1977). King Henry created the Church of England just to
get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the Catholic Church would not do it
again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became Protestant for the same reason. King Henry kept
getting married for only two reasons, getting a son and gaining a coalition. He went against the
Church for his own self interest... to get an annulment with his wife to just get a new wife whom he
would probably just kill or divorce. Also, King Henry VIII created the Act of Supremacy to gain
authority in which took authority from the Pope of the Church of England, and also made him Supreme
Head of the Church of England. This effectively stripped all of the authority the Pope held in England
and gave it to Henry VIII. Also because of the Act of Supremacy Henry VIII gained a new title:
Supreme Head of the Church of England (Gillaspie 2008). King Henry used the acts, methods, and
theories to retain his

RATIO: ANALYSIS
Finandal statements issued by lodging properties contain a considerable amount of information. A
thorough analysis oEthis information requires more than simply reading the reported figures and facts.
Users of finandal statementsneed to be ahle to interpret the figures and facts, and make them yield
information that reveals aspects of the property s financial situation or operation that could otherwise
go unnoticed. This is accomplished through ratio analysis, which compares related facts reported on
finandal statements: A ratio gives mathematical expression to a relationship between two figures, and
is calculated by dividing one figure by the other. Although ratios are critical to any finandal analysis,
they are only indicators and, as indicators, they are meaningful only when compared to useful criteria.

Essay On A Systems Approach
In today s economic and industrial environment, a systems approach to the design and operation of
manufacturing and supply is more important than ever. Do you agree with this statement, and why?
When a great idea is created, starting up the business isn t as easy as buying some real estate, hiring
some people, and telling them what to do. A systems approach to how the company is going to be
designed and operated must be created and constantly reanalyzed. A system is a design that takes in
inputs and produces outputs. To create a system, the first situation needs to be looked at and a purpose
or nature must be identified. Next, a list of everything that will be going into the pizza restaurant must
be created and labeled as inputs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that in todays economical and industrial environment, a systems approach is increasingly
important. A working system can help a company run smoothly and efficiently. An example of a
successful system is Walmart and their renowned supply chain system. A failed system is the reaction
to the Katrina disaster management which is still having a lasting effect along the Gulf coast.
Today, Walmart is a superstore empire with 11500 retail units in 28 counties and employs 2.3 million
workers. To reach this success, Walmart has mastered their supply chain management strategy and
system that has allowed them to cut costs and allow consumers to save money. One technique that
Walmart uses is to have fewer links in the supply chain. Walmart started working directly with the
manufactures to save money and be able to have more control over its supply chain. They used a
method called Vendor Managed Inventory which made manufactures responsible for managing
Walmart s orders and keeping them in stock from them inside Walmart s warehouse. [2] Walmart only
sought out strategic vendor partnerships. Walmart would only buy from suppliers who had the best
price and were in a position to meet demand. They then negotiated lower prices by offering to order
from them long term and to make high volume purchases. Walmart then created communication and
relationship networks with the suppliers which allowed

A Brief Note On Wildlife Photography, And For Good Reason
Wildlife photography is a very popular area to specialise in, and for good reason. It gives you a great
excuse to spend extended periods of time outdoors, keeps you fit, and allows you to develop a real
appreciation for the natural world. But it can also be a very challenging field too, especially since your
subject is often running away from you! I m going to share with you 15 of my top tips so that you can
start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the end of this article you ll have
learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming the next Art Wolfe. 1. Shoot on
Eye level When you re standing up and shooting an animal on the ground, your angle of view is
pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the perspective seem strange. It also
decreases the distance between the subject and the background, getting rid of your chance for that
nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye level with your subject. It brings the viewer down
onto the animal s level, creating a much more interesting perspective. It will most likely increase the
distance between the subject and the background too, removing distracting elements by throwing the
backdrop out of focus. 2. Learn About Your Subject Getting to know the animal you re photographing
can be a really helpful trick. If you know about an animal s typical behavioural traits, then you will be
able to predict movements or particular things you can focus on capturing.

The Effects Of Autonomous Cars On Society Essay
Tyler Hagemeier

Argumentative Essay While researching articles about autonomous cars, I found a few authors who
wrote about the effects of autonomous cars on society and whether or not these should be introduced
to our world s roads. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be allowed on
roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries which includes
the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry. However, with the
expansion of these new technologies, it could introduce new industries as well. Some say autonomous
cars draw questions of ethicality with accidents because there is not a human driving the vehicle. The
truth is, human drivers cause a shocking amount of accidents each year which could be greatly
decreased by autonomous cars. My goal in this paper is to argue that autonomous or self driving cars
should be introduced to our world s roads because there will be less accidents, massive economic
benefits, and a more efficient form of transportation. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper
into three sections. In this first section, I will provide evidence and discuss the amount of accidents
human drivers create on the roads. I will then explain how self driving cars can limit the amount of
accidents and discuss the ethics of autonomous cars. In the second section, I will explain how
autonomous cars can benefit the

Nanotechnology And Its Effects On The Field Of Drug...
Nanomedicine, the application of nanotechnology in medicine has attracted a great deal of attention in
the field of drug delivery and tissue engineering over the past few decades. This increasing interest in
nanomedicine is driven by its potential to revolutionize the treatment of some prevalent global disease
such as cancer, cardiovascular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and diabetes in safer and
more effective ways [1, 2]. Nanotechnology refers to the engineering of materials at the atomic,

The idea of targeted drug delivery is not new and dates back to 1906, when for the first time Paul

drug delivery, the magic bullet is still a challenge to implement in the clinic. The challenge involves
finding the appropriate therapeutic agents, targeting moieties, and pharmaceutical carriers [15]. An

Groupthink Differences
The term groupthink was coined in 1952 by William Whyte a business author and editor in Fortune
magazine (West Turner, 2014). However, it was not until 1972 that Irving Janis combined the concept
with foreign policy decision making and a communication context (Janis, 1972; in West Turner, 2014).
The main tenet of groupthink is that the need for everyone to agree causes the group to suppress
conflicting opinions by means to get along and make decisions. It is a way of deliberation that
minimizes conflict and emphasizes the need for unanimity (West Turner, 2014, p. 252). However, this
may result in neglecting better and more effective decisions that deviate from the conformity. My

in relation to foreign policy decision making and in the context of communication, it can be expanded

Union. Not all the antecedents applied to my experience and the decision made about what kind of
short film we are to make as club will most likely not be unethical due to my lack of input. However,
Groupthink also appears frequently in the business world (Sims, 1992). A desire for cohesion and
quick decision making, neglects the effective and unheard ideas which are silenced in result. To avoid
Groupthink, the ideas of all group members must be considered, leaders should be impartial, the

Difference Between Food And Organic Food
Organic Food Versus Body and Environment In a day and age where the type of food we eat is
discussed all over the media, it can be hard to tell what is true and what is simply another marketing
ploy. In regards to organic food, there is definitely a lot of opinions surrounding the authenticity of
claims to their health and environmental benefits. Many people swear that by eating organic, you can
prevent illnesses such as cancer. While others argue that organic food is the answer to saving our
environment from the harmful chemicals that conventional farming produces. Some even go as far to
calm that organic foods may be another way to differentiate between social classes (Isenhour). With so
many different opinions, it can be difficult to decide what kind of food you should be feeding your
body. As a result of my interest in this widely controversial topic, the question that I will be answering
is whether or not organic foods are beneficial to stave off future disease and if they are actually better
for the earth. According to my research, organic foods have very little evidence supporting the idea
that they are healthier for our bodies, but have the potential to improve our environment with a little
more research. For a food to be considered organic, it must possess certain qualities. According to the
USDA, the dirt that an organic food is planted in can t have had prohibited things put in the soil in the
last three years. Animals must be kept in natural environments that

The Dilemma Of Authenticity And Assimilation

that has been practiced and followed for years this is how discrimination occurs in the society.
Prejudice is what discrimination leads to. Prejudice leads to culture differences and these differences
act as means for people to cover. Yoshino was strongly affected by the concept of covering and
assimilation, he believed that everyone in this world covers in some or the other positive way. Yoshino
has mentioned lots of examples where he was forced to cover as well as assimilate and has also
mentioned some other examples where he noticed people covering. Yoshino was born and brought up

of white. Here, majority and western way is considered as mainstream. This made him loose his

his identity of being a Japanese when he is in America and to cover his identity of being American by

Compare And Contrast Give Me Liberty By Eric Foner
No two accounts of any event are ever exactly the same, as different people have unique experiences
that impact their views. Historical accounts and history books are the same way, as an examination of
A People s History of the United States, by Howard Zinn, and Give Me Liberty, by Eric Foner
demonstrates. Both accounts of early American history cover the important colonies, such as
Jamestown and the influential Puritans and the immigration of different peoples to America. They
differ however, not only on the depth they choose to go into these events, but also on interactions
between the natives and the colonists. A People s History, by Howard Zinn, tells history in a biased
way that excludes information that Eric Foner, of Give Me Liberty, does not. Zinn s bias is in favor of
the Indians, while Foner lacks a bias, telling history from all views. This difference can be noted in the
telling of the Pueblo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pequot War is a classic example of the tension that existed between the Indians and the colonists
in early America. Zinn chooses to illustrate the Indians as completely innocent and harmless, placing
the blame on the Europeans, while Foner illustrates the Pequots as Indians capable of holding their
own. According to Howard Zinn, the Pequot War was caused by the murder of a white trader, Indian
kidnapper, and troublemaker became an excuse to make war (Zinn 14). Zinn s bias is clear when he
claims that this murder was an excuse, which makes it seem as though the Puritans couldn t wait to
murder a bunch of Pequots. This contributes towards making the Puritans look greedy and selfish.
Foner, on the other hand, claims that the turning point came in 1637 when a fur trader was killed by
Pequots a powerful tribe who controlled southern New England s fur trade and exacted tribute from
other Indians (Foner 78).

Analysis Of The Movie The Manchurian Candidate
On the surface, the movie The Manchurian Candidate presents a parallel universe inspired by the
paranoid right wing illusions of people who believed in the Red Scare. The film itself crosses over
into several different dramas: war film, political satire, paranoid science fiction, black comedy,
suspenseful intrigue, and horror. The notion that the Russian and Chinese Communists were working
together to take over the U.S. by infiltrating them was a common idea. Because of the communist
brainwashing when captured, Raymond Shaw s lack of agency allows him to be controlled by outside
influences in order to infiltrate the United States. The paranoia and fear of losing control to the
communists during the Red Scare is paralleled in the film to a fear of the power that women had over
men. The relationship that Raymond Shaw has with the women in his life is in complete opposition of
the normal relationships men had with women during the Cold War. This opposition is analogous
throughout the entire movie, especially in the dream sequence and in relation to Eleanor Shaw.
Distorted representations of both men and women, which are not of the customary gender roles during
this time, contribute to the formation of a pubic spectacle.
The relationship between Eleanor and Raymond Shaw is not detailed in the movie, however her
explicit control over him is evident. The Jocasta complex presented in the novel creates a conflict for
the remainder of Raymond s life. His mother controls Raymond

Symbolic Objects that Reflect of World War II in William...
William Golding wrote the novel Lord of the Flies to draw attention to the chaos in society during the
Second World War. Throughout the novel, there is a large amount of symbolism that gives the readers
a better understanding of his ideas and concepts. There are many symbolic objects in the Lord of the
Flies that help to expand his perception of the Second World War and his theme of there being a little
bit of evil and savagery in everyone. Three of the most important symbolic objects are Piggy s glasses,
the conch shell, and the signal fire. First, of the many symbolic objects in the Lord of the Flies are
Piggy s glasses. His glasses symbolize many different things in the novel. First they symbolize hope.

Second, of the many symbolic objects in the Lord of the Flies is the conch shell. The white conch shell
represents the state of civilization on the island, the slow deterioration of this civilization, and finally
the extinction of all of the civilization on the island. With the discovery of the conch shell it comes to
symbolize the rise of civilization on the island. When Piggy exclaims to Ralph Careful! You ll break it
(15) as he goes to pick up the shell, it shows the fragility of civilization and how one wrong move can
shatter it. After that, Piggy then goes on to explain how valuable the conch is and how much it would
cost to purchase in a shop. He informs a conch; ever so expensive. I bet if you wanted to buy one, you
d have to pay pounds and pounds and pounds (16). This discussion over the value of the conch
symbolically displays just how precious civilization is to humans and the expense that the shell would
bring in a shop displays the price that many are willing to pay for civilization. Ralph and Piggy then
decide to use the shell to summon any other boys who are on the island. The shell is used to bring
together a group of diversity and appeases their differences to create order. The conch shell also
represents the creation of a key factor to its civilization. Once the group has been gathered, they begin
to take the steps to organize themselves and assign duties. The organization and assignment of duties
are both key roles into forming and maintaining

Descriptive Essay On My Grandmother
Granddaughter Peeping through the blinds, I wave goodbye to my mom in her red, Mercedes Benz,
and to my dad in his white, Toyota van, watching them go opposite directions towards work. I stumble
across the couch, leaving indents from my knees, and walk into the kitchen where my grandmother
stands with her familiar gray mug filled with steaming coffee and two cubes of sugar. As I walk to her
side at the counter, I reach into a pink, plastic fruit basket containing ripe treasures purchased from
Lion s Supermarket. Two fruits: an apple and an orange, immediately sit upon my two hands. Shoving
the round red into my grandma s eyes, I await an answer. She squints, wrinkles deepening on her
forehead, as if the apple was the challenge question on a math test. Or...ange, she says. I shake my
head, and sound out the beginning letters of the fruit I was offering, until the word, apple, struggles
out of her mouth. We both smile at the accomplishment as she points down at the orange and correctly
states its name, confident in fashion. This calls for celebratory peeled orange and sliced sweet apple.
Two weeks and two fruits, teaching my Chinese grandma some English words marks the biggest
accomplishment of my first grade self. My first vivid memory of her, back when she wore floral
button ups from China, cooked egg fried rice for our summer lunches, and washed my hair in the sink.
I was her granddaughter. She was my mother s māmā. We did not have the typical

It is a preparation between two companies that have decided to share resources to undertake a specific,
mutually beneficial project. A strategic alliance is less involved and less permanent than a joint
venture, in which two companies typically pool resources to create a separate business entity. In a
strategic alliance, each company maintains its autonomy while gaining a new opportunity. A strategic
alliance could help a company develop a more effective process, expand into a new market or develop
an advantage over a competitor, among other possibilities. (http://www.investopedia.com)
Investopedia explains Strategic Alliance
For example, an oil and natural gas company might form a strategic alliance with a research laboratory
to develop more commercially viable recovery processes. A clothing retailer might form a strategic
alliance with a single clothing manufacturer to ensure consistent quality and sizing. A major website
could form a strategic alliance with an analytics company to improve its marketing efforts.

Knowledge Management can make a significant difference between ongoing or successful ventures of
any organization in a world of accelerating change. Knowledge Management provides the ability to
connect and cooperate complex ideas efficiently and can be beneficial even to expand when using
strategic alliances. To make Knowledge Management work in an

The Gangster Film Industry In The 1930 s
Throughout American history, film and filmmakers have turned to society for insight to new ideas on
films. Huge movements and monumental points in history, such as The Great Depression, race
movements, women s rights and other points in time are often portrayed through creative films and
cinematography. The gangster film was deeply embraced at a time in history where capitalism
appeared to be failing, and the traditional concept of the American Dream appeared to be far out of
reach. Throughout the great depression era, the gangster film genre was heavily relied upon by studios
in the 1930 s, as profits slid and it became increasingly difficult to convince moviegoers to spend their
hard earned nickels on a trip to the theater ( ). The fact that the movie industry intended to rely upon
increased sex and violence in its features is a striking example of just how perverted the American
Dream had become. The concept of hard honest work and careful investment to ensure financial
wellbeing had become unattractive, as society had clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the difference between right and wrong. Gangsters always had to face their consequences of their
actions, be it through death or jail, but American Gangster was much different. American Gangster

Analyzing Robert Frost s Mending Wall
Analyzing Robert Frost s Mending Wall Robert Frost was born in San Francisco, California on March
26th in 1874. Robert Frost s personal life was filled with grief and insecurities. When he was 11, his
father died of tuberculosis, his mother died of cancer years after, and his sister was confined into a
mental institution where she also later died. Elinor and Robert Frost had six children together. One of
their sons died of cholera, one son committed suicide, one of their daughters died after being born due
to puerperal fever, and another daughter of theirs died three days after birth. Frost s wife developed
breast cancer and died of heart failure in 1938. With all of the above listed tragedies of his loved ones
and suffering from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main theme in Robert Frost s poem is the description of two very distinct and unique lifestyles
between two neighbors and the idea of maintaining civility and neighbor like barriers. However, one
of the neighbors feel that there is no need to have this wall. The barriers are made from each neighbor
s own perspective. One neighbors barriers are built out of tradition and habits and the other neighbors
perspective reflects reasoning. What I get from the poem is the actual portrayal of how people literally
and metaphorically build walls and barriers between each other due to some form of tradition or
reason. In Mending Wall Frost expresses his thoughts and questions of boundaries and their worth
through a numerous number of literary devices. Frost uses a variety of literary techniques and devices
throughout his poem such as tone, imagery, figure of speech, diction, form of structure, metrical
variation, and symbolization, to help us understand his feelings and argument upon the barrier
between the two neighbors. To generalize Frost s poems, they are about a specific place, America s
New England because Frost spent years as a farmer in New England. Mending Wall narrates a story
drawn from New England. In the poem the narrator, a New England farmer, contacts his neighbor in
the season of spring to rebuild the stone

The Court s View Of The Election Process
In addition, if people lose faith in the election process, our democracy s integrity can be harmed. The
Supreme Court ruled the fact that wealthy corporations had the financial means to support candidates
did not mean that people would lose faith in the election process. In the Court s view, financial support
is but a part of the election process and no evidence supports the idea that candidates bend to
contributors pressure.
However, as this law sets deeper in our jurisprudence and Super PACs feel more comfortable
supporting candidates, some people might start suspecting that candidates are bending to donors
pressure. This suspicion could arise simply from knowing the millions of dollars that Super PACs
spend supporting candidates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would exacerbate any potential doubts on the electorate s mind about illegal collusion between
candidates and large financial supporters.
Supporters of the Supreme Court s decision can argue that such outcome is too far an event to
consider it a serious possibility. Even when this scenario requires that certain factors fall into place,
such as the media portraying candidates as puppets, and people believing these allegations, the
question should not focus on how many factors must fall into place, but how reasonable is it that such
factors playout the way they do. If looked from this perspective, the threat of people losing faith in
their candidates becomes very real.
Yet supporters of the Supreme Court s decision can argue that even when a part of the population loses
faith in the election system, the overall trust in it can be maintained. However, on this important issue,
the court should not render meaningless the distrust of a portion of the population, especially when
this distrust arouse out of a lack of judicial deference toward the legislature. In other words, as a
matter of public policy, courts should refrain from ruling in ways that would create an environment in
which a portion of the population could lose faith in the very essence of our society.
Additionally, Court supporters can claim that the argument is that people could lose faith in the
election system, and should not be

What Is The Central Idea Of The Wife s Story
The central idea of the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula Le Guin, is a wolf who finds out she is
the wife of a werewolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear
love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). This quote shows the wife finding out about
her husband s curse, which is the central idea. The character vs. character conflict of the family
finding out about the husband and the character vs. self conflict of the husband changing into a human
and or wolf helps develop the central idea because, without these conflicts there would be no story. In
the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula LeGuin, there are many different forms of conflict. Some
examples of those are, character vs. character when the family finds out about the husband being a
werewolf, and character vs. self with the husband dealing with him being a werewolf and changing
between man and wolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear

Gerrymandering Pros And Cons
Gerrymandering is the process of altering electoral districts to favor a political party over the other by
receiving more votes in that districts based on the population demographics and party affiliation.
Gerrymandering was founded when Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts had enacted a bill that
would allow the state to the redistricted in a way that would favor the party he represented, which was
the Democratic Republican Party, over the Federalists. When the redistricting plan was brought to the
press, the term was created using Governor Gerry s name and salamander after one district in Boston
appeared to look like a salamander. In terms of recent elections, the United States has not gone

The redistribution of districts definitely helped voters that felt underrepresented especially those in
rurals and cities but this still presents problems with small pockets of voters that are either undecided
or strongly in favor of one party over their districts affiliation. The new NY District 23 is a perfect
example of this. District 23 is lead by Congressman Tom Reed, a Republican representing a very rural
area of Southern Tier New York. The cities of Corning, Ithaca, Olean, Jamestown, and Dunkirk are
scattered throughout the district with dozens of public and private universities also present. The
district population is mostly isolated in the cities with sparse populations elsewhere. A majority of the
population would be young, due to the universities, and mostly urban, because of the cities, so you
expect the district to be blue, wrong. District 23 is in fact red, because of the lack of mobilization of
young voters to go out and vote. Because of this, older more rural voters decide the party affiliation of
the district resulting in representation by Reed. Some argue that Tom Reed s district is gerrymandered
in his favor which resulted in his reelection this past November. Although he was reelected, there was
still a presence of more younger voters making an effort to go out and vote. John Plumb, Reed s
Democratic opponent, had great outreach in the Chautauqua

Reflection On Dodgers Training Activity
I arrived early at the dodgers training session today. I started off communicating to Anthony who is
currently dealing with lack of motivation. You could improve Anthony s lack of motivation by playing
uplifting music or the coach giving him a pep talk before the game and also maybe ask Anthony why
he enjoys the sport or why he did in the first place so that he can find his passion again. Then I
communicated with Mathew has no inability to focus when on the field. To improve Mathews focus
we will have to look at where he looses the most focus, this is during after the second inning. Also use
mental imagery before a game eg mediation. During half time the coach could play an uplifting song
through the intercom to help Mathew focus on the game and get him ready for the next two quarters.

Great Expectations- Character Analysis Essay
Estella Havisham: Most readers are appalled at the cold hearted and cruel ways of Estella, but any
criticism directed at her is largely undeserved. She was simply raised in a controlled environment
where she was, in essence, brainwashed by Miss Havisham. Nonetheless, her demeanor might lead
one to suspect that she was a girl with a heart of ice. Estella is scornful from the moment she is
introduced, when she remarks on Pip s coarse hands and thick boots. However, her beauty soon
captivates Pip and she is instilled as the focal point of his thoughts for much of the remainder of the
novel. The fact that Pip becomes infatuated with her is also not Estella s fault. By no means is there

The entire story is told through the eyes of an adult Pip, even though Pip is a small child during parts
of it. In his early years, Pip was strongly influenced by his guardians, Joe Gargery and his wife, Mrs.
Joe. Joe instills a sense of honesty, industry, and friendliness in Pip, while Mrs. Joe does a great deal
to contribute to his desires and ambitions through her constant emphasis on pomp and property. Pip is
generally good natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false values, which are bolstered by
his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for Joe. His alienation from Joe and Joe
s values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip becomes selfish, greedy, and foolish.
During the period when his expectations are intact, his only morally positive act was to secretly help
Herbert Pocket into a good position. Upon discovering that Magwitch is his benefactor, a new phase
begins in Pip s moral evolution. At first, Pip no longer feels the same human compassion for
Magwitch that he did the first time he saw him out on the marshes. Gradually, Pip changes his
perception of Magwitch, unlearning what he has learned. Pip becomes concerned with the man, and
not the expectations that he could provide. When Jaggers presents the thought that there may be a way
for Pip to get his hands on Magwitch s property, the idea sounds hollow and utterly empty to Pip. Pip
learns about Estella s parentage through

John Lee Hancock s The Blind Side
Take a look at yourself. You are a unique person created for a specific purpose. Your gifts matter. Your
story matters. Your dreams matter. You matter (Michael Oher).
The Blind Side , directed by John Lee Hancock is a PG 13 movie based on a true story of Michael
Oher, a boy that realizes that he has the power to do a lot more in life than that he had ever imagined.
This movie has a hint of everything from sports, drama, humor and a bit of action that warms one s
heart but has the power to change ones perspective on life and what family can be. It shows how one
determination and that push from a loved one can change a person s faith. Michael Oher played by
actor Quinton Aaron was a big, tall, black boy, who never did have anything right in his life. He came
from a broken home; when he was young, him and his brother were taken away from their mom, as
she was drug addict. Things never seem to be right in Michael s life, he lived in the projects in
Memphis; an area filled with gangs a path to destruction for Oher. After he was taken away from his

game, the referee throws a flag on Oher. The coach asks why he threw the flag. The referee responds,

The New Health Plan For Affordable Care Act
As more provisions of the affordable care act continue to be implemented many find controversy
ineffectiveness of the new health plan. On an annual basis the correlation seems to grow more positive

The real question is, did the ACA truly reduced costs for the previous insured? Supporting data
suggest otherwise and paints the picture of ever increasing priced insurance market that has not hit
sustainability. In 2016 the American population again saw their insurance plans increasing their
premiums from 10% 13% across the board. This is much more than expected, and even worse the co
op insurance plans have failed. The government sponsored non profit plans offering lower rates have
not proven sustainability in result of the majority going bankrupt even after receiving 1.2 billion
dollars of taxpayer s money. The Affordable Care Act is already becoming a huge tax expense
amongst Americans leading to the U.S. increasing the overall national debt. Starting 2018 all high end
health insurance premium plans will come with a 40% excise tax. Also, changes in flexible spending
accounts have occurred as over the counter medicines are no longer qualified expenses for flexible
spending accounts and health savings accounts. The health care tax deduction threshold account
increased to 10% from the previous established 7.5%. All these changes through different avenues
account for more reasons we continue to see costs increase through the ObamaCare. On the same level

  • 5. Jocasta as a Tragic Hero Essay Kayla Holt Professor Slattery English L202 October 10, 2012 Upholding Jocasta as the Tragic Hero What makes a tragic hero? Aristotle lays down groundwork of a tragic hero as being essentially good. They are neither villain nor saint because they have flaws. Several elememts are nevcesary to have a tragic hero, they are the tragic flaw, the reversal, recognition, and hubris. These generally make up the story of the tragic hero, and in the case of Jocasta, the wife and mother of Oedipus in Sophocles Oedipus the King, she posses all three. She respects the gods, but not the oracles. She tries to lead Oedipus to adopt this standpoint as well, telling him of the prophecy told to Laius and herself, and how that prophecy did not come to pass. After telling Oedipus that he need not worry about the words of a prophet she tells him, Whatever the god needs and seeks he ll bring to light himself, with ease. (Sophocles line 799 800). Later she goes to Apollo s temple and asks for his guidance, saying that they are in the grip of fear, beseeching his help for Oedipus and saying, I come with prayers and offerings...I beg you, cleanse us, set us free of defilement! (Sophocles line 1009 1010). She does not yet realize that the defilement cannot be cleansed. Hubris Her only flaw is disregard for the prophets; she never disregards the gods themselves. Her disbelief in them is sound, and she maintains her belief in the gods. In this way it is hubris, her overwhelming pride or belief that she thwarted the earlier prophecy. It is still this flaw which is a part of her tragic downfall. The Reversal Peripetia, or the reversal, is another element of the tragic hero. Most of you would probably do anything and everything to making sure that your best friend is okay, right? In the passage The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami he tells the story of how he could have saved his best friend s life but chose not to. Mr. Murakami should very much have to live with the guilt and sorrow of not saving his friend K. Many people risk their lives everyday to help citizens out that they barely know. Not everyone sadly can be saved but these people try their best. Guilt is a very strong emotion to have to live with just ask the soldiers in the passage The Moral Logic of Survivor Guilt by Nancy Sherman. Those men and women come home after watching close friends pass away in front of them and feel guilty for still being alive ( Sherman pg. 153). This statement can be supported depending on what your opinion is. Or perhaps I simply froze, overcome with fear ( Murakami pg. 139). However, my position is stronger because throughout the story evidence is shown that Haruki had a choice to save K but ran away to save his own life first. I told myself to run over to K, grab hold of him, and get out of there. It was the only thing to do. I knew that the wave was coming and K didn t know. As clearly as I knew what I ought to be doing, I found myself running the other way running full speed towards the dyke, alone ( Murakami pg. 138). They merely burned and sputtered, then the ejection charge went off without ever getting off the ground. The ratio ten to ten achieved liftoff for two of its three launches, though only one of them actually escaped the guidance rod used to keep the rocket going straight up. In the chemical formula, 5 C12H22O11 + 48 KNO3 → 24 K2CO3 + 36 CO2 + 55 H2O+24 N2, the ratio of oxidizer to fuel is 48:5 in moles, or 4852.8 grams of potassium nitrate to 1711.5 grams of sucrose, which simplify to 2.8 grams of oxidizer per gram of fuel. This means that the potassium nitrate is used up 2.8 times faster than the sugar, therefore requiring more potassium nitrate to sugar. None of the ratios tested have this exact proportion, in fact all of the ratios have a smaller percentage of oxidizer than is advised, promoting the conclusion that the potassium nitrate is the limiting reactant, running out first. The ratios simplify to as follows: 7:13 has 0.54 grams of oxidizer per gram of fuel, 10:10 has a 1:1, and 13:7 being has 1.86 grams per gram of fuel. One would notice that as the ratio of oxidizer per fuel increases, the launch height also increases. It can therefore be determined that as one gets closer to the ratio of 2.8:1, the engines serve more positively, proposing a direct correlation between the two. This serves an explanation as to why the thirteen to seven ratio created the best results, whereas the other rockets created little to no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

King Henry VIII gained legitimacy through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the Coercion Theory and the killing of his wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian Theory and becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the power from his father successfully which led him to gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his wives in order to show power. And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play, Machiavelli s influence may have been more direct; but, in any event, Machiavellianism is a valid and serviceable term for describing the harsher political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it applies, in turn, to Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry (McBride 1977). King Henry created the Church of England just to get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the Catholic Church would not do it again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became Protestant for the same reason. King Henry kept getting married for only two reasons, getting a son and gaining a coalition. He went against the Church for his own self interest... to get an annulment with his wife to just get a new wife whom he would probably just kill or divorce. Also, King Henry VIII created the Act of Supremacy to gain authority in which took authority from the Pope of the Church of England, and also made him Supreme Head of the Church of England. This effectively stripped all of the authority the Pope held in England and gave it to Henry VIII. Do you agree with this statement, and why? When a great idea is created, starting up the business isn t as easy as buying some real estate, hiring some people, and telling them what to do. A systems approach to how the company is going to be designed and operated must be created and constantly reanalyzed. A system is a design that takes in inputs and produces outputs. An example of a successful system is Walmart and their renowned supply chain system. A failed system is the reaction to the Katrina disaster management which is still having a lasting effect along the Gulf coast. Today, Walmart is a superstore empire with 11500 retail units in 28 counties and employs 2.3 million workers. To reach this success, Walmart has mastered their supply chain management strategy and system that has allowed them to cut costs and allow consumers to save money. One technique that Walmart uses is to have fewer links in the supply chain. Walmart started working directly with the manufactures to save money and be able to have more control over its supply chain. They used a method called Vendor Managed Inventory which made manufactures responsible for managing Walmart s orders and keeping them in stock from them inside Walmart s warehouse. [2] Walmart only sought out strategic vendor partnerships. Walmart would only buy from suppliers who had the best price and were in a position to meet demand. They then negotiated lower prices by offering to order from them long term and to make high volume purchases. But it can also be a very challenging field too, especially since your subject is often running away from you! I m going to share with you 15 of my top tips so that you can start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the end of this article you ll have learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming the next Art Wolfe. 1. Shoot on Eye level When you re standing up and shooting an animal on the ground, your angle of view is pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the perspective seem strange. It also decreases the distance between the subject and the background, getting rid of your chance for that nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye level with your subject. It brings the viewer down onto the animal s level, creating a much more interesting perspective. It will most likely increase the distance between the subject and the background too, removing distracting elements by throwing the backdrop out of focus. 2. The Effects Of Autonomous Cars On Society Essay Tyler Hagemeier Dr. Learst English 102 20 November 2016 Argumentative Essay While researching articles about autonomous cars, I found a few authors who wrote about the effects of autonomous cars on society and whether or not these should be introduced to our world s roads. On one hand, some authors believe self driving cars should not be allowed on roads. They believe this revolution in the change of cars will destroy large industries which includes the auto insurance industry, parking industry, and auto aftermarket industry. However, with the expansion of these new technologies, it could introduce new industries as well. Some say autonomous cars draw questions of ethicality with accidents because there is not a human driving the vehicle. The truth is, human drivers cause a shocking amount of accidents each year which could be greatly decreased by autonomous cars. My goal in this paper is to argue that autonomous or self driving cars should be introduced to our world s roads because there will be less accidents, massive economic benefits, and a more efficient form of transportation. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into three sections. In this first section, I will provide evidence and discuss the amount of accidents human drivers create on the roads. I will then explain how self driving cars can limit the amount of accidents and discuss the ethics of autonomous cars. In the second section, I will explain how autonomous cars can benefit the ... Many people swear that by eating organic, you can prevent illnesses such as cancer. Historical accounts and history books are the same way, as an examination of A People s History of the United States, by Howard Zinn, and Give Me Liberty, by Eric Foner demonstrates. Both accounts of early American history cover the important colonies, such as Jamestown and the influential Puritans and the immigration of different peoples to America. They differ however, not only on the depth they choose to go into these events, but also on interactions between the natives and the colonists. A People s History, by Howard Zinn, tells history in a biased way that excludes information that Eric Foner, of Give Me Liberty, does not. • 18. Analysis Of The Movie The Manchurian Candidate On the surface, the movie The Manchurian Candidate presents a parallel universe inspired by the paranoid right wing illusions of people who believed in the Red Scare. The film itself crosses over into several different dramas: war film, political satire, paranoid science fiction, black comedy, suspenseful intrigue, and horror. The notion that the Russian and Chinese Communists were working together to take over the U.S. by infiltrating them was a common idea. Because of the communist brainwashing when captured, Raymond Shaw s lack of agency allows him to be controlled by outside influences in order to infiltrate the United States. The paranoia and fear of losing control to the communists during the Red Scare is paralleled in the film to a fear of the power that women had over men. The relationship that Raymond Shaw has with the women in his life is in complete opposition of the normal relationships men had with women during the Cold War. This opposition is analogous throughout the entire movie, especially in the dream sequence and in relation to Eleanor Shaw. Distorted representations of both men and women, which are not of the customary gender roles during this time, contribute to the formation of a pubic spectacle. The relationship between Eleanor and Raymond Shaw is not detailed in the movie, however her explicit control over him is evident. • 28. What Is The Central Idea Of The Wife s Story The central idea of the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula Le Guin, is a wolf who finds out she is the wife of a werewolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). This quote shows the wife finding out about her husband s curse, which is the central idea. The character vs. character conflict of the family finding out about the husband and the character vs. self conflict of the husband changing into a human and or wolf helps develop the central idea because, without these conflicts there would be no story. In the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula LeGuin, there are many different forms of conflict. Some examples of those are, character vs. character when the family finds out about the husband being a werewolf, and character vs. self with the husband dealing with him being a werewolf and changing between man and wolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). • 29. Gerrymandering Pros And Cons Gerrymandering is the process of altering electoral districts to favor a political party over the other by receiving more votes in that districts based on the population demographics and party affiliation. Gerrymandering was founded when Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts had enacted a bill that would allow the state to the redistricted in a way that would favor the party he represented, which was the Democratic Republican Party, over the Federalists. When the redistricting plan was brought to the press, the term was created using Governor Gerry s name and salamander after one district in Boston appeared to look like a salamander. The redistribution of districts definitely helped voters that felt underrepresented especially those in rurals and cities but this still presents problems with small pockets of voters that are either undecided or strongly in favor of one party over their districts affiliation. The new NY District 23 is a perfect example of this. District 23 is lead by Congressman Tom Reed, a Republican representing a very rural area of Southern Tier New York. The cities of Corning, Ithaca, Olean, Jamestown, and Dunkirk are scattered throughout the district with dozens of public and private universities also present. The district population is mostly isolated in the cities with sparse populations elsewhere. A majority of the population would be young, due to the universities, and mostly urban, because of the cities, so you expect the district to be blue, wrong. District 23 is in fact red, because of the lack of mobilization of young voters to go out and vote. Because of this, older more rural voters decide the party affiliation of the district resulting in representation by Reed. Some argue that Tom Reed s district is gerrymandered in his favor which resulted in his reelection this past November. Although he was reelected, there was still a presence of more younger voters making an effort to go out and vote. John Plumb, Reed s Democratic opponent, had great outreach in the Chautauqua ... You could improve Anthony s lack of motivation by playing uplifting music or the coach giving him a pep talk before the game and also maybe ask Anthony why he enjoys the sport or why he did in the first place so that he can find his passion again. Then I communicated with Mathew has no inability to focus when on the field. To improve Mathews focus we will have to look at where he looses the most focus, this is during after the second inning. Also use mental imagery before a game eg mediation. During half time the coach could play an uplifting song through the intercom to help Mathew focus on the game and get him ready for the next two quarters. • 32. Great Expectations- Character Analysis Essay Estella Havisham: Most readers are appalled at the cold hearted and cruel ways of Estella, but any criticism directed at her is largely undeserved. She was simply raised in a controlled environment where she was, in essence, brainwashed by Miss Havisham. Nonetheless, her demeanor might lead one to suspect that she was a girl with a heart of ice. Estella is scornful from the moment she is introduced, when she remarks on Pip s coarse hands and thick boots. However, her beauty soon captivates Pip and she is instilled as the focal point of his thoughts for much of the remainder of the novel. The fact that Pip becomes infatuated with her is also not Estella s fault. By no means is there any evidence that she loved him. She does not flirt with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The entire story is told through the eyes of an adult Pip, even though Pip is a small child during parts of it. In his early years, Pip was strongly influenced by his guardians, Joe Gargery and his wife, Mrs. Joe. Joe instills a sense of honesty, industry, and friendliness in Pip, while Mrs. Joe does a great deal to contribute to his desires and ambitions through her constant emphasis on pomp and property. Pip is generally good natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false values, which are bolstered by his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for Joe. His alienation from Joe and Joe s values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip becomes selfish, greedy, and foolish. During the period when his expectations are intact, his only morally positive act was to secretly help Herbert Pocket into a good position. Upon discovering that Magwitch is his benefactor, a new phase begins in Pip s moral evolution. At first, Pip no longer feels the same human compassion for Magwitch that he did the first time he saw him out on the marshes. Gradually, Pip changes his perception of Magwitch, unlearning what he has learned. Pip becomes concerned with the man, and not the expectations that he could provide. When Jaggers presents the thought that there may be a way for Pip to get his hands on Magwitch s property, the idea sounds hollow and utterly empty to Pip. This is much more than expected, and even worse the co op insurance plans have failed. The government sponsored non profit plans offering lower rates have not proven sustainability in result of the majority going bankrupt even after receiving 1.2 billion dollars of taxpayer s money.
