Auguste Comte s Sociological Approach To The Scientific...
Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions and the study of social
problems. Sociology investigates the social causes and consequences of such things as prejudice
and discrimination. Auguste Comte first used the term sociology in 1838 to refer to the scientific
study of society. He argued that society needs scientific knowledge based on facts and evidence to
solve its problems. Spencer suggested that society will correct its own defects through the natural
process of survival of the fittest. Marx claimed that social conflict, especially class conflict, and
competition mark all societies. Durkheim stressed the importance of studying social facts or
patterns of behavior characteristic of a particular group. He advocated the use of systematic
observation to study sociological events, but he also recommended that sociologists avoid
considering people s attitudes when explaining society. Weber argued that sociologists must also
take into account people s interpretations of events; not just the events themselves. He believed that
sociologists must inquire about people s thoughts, feelings, and perceptions regarding their own
behaviors. These Sociologists were the main players during the 19th and 20th century, and their
prior work led to the development of Sociologyin America. Sociologists throughout the decades
have sought to develop a scientific approach to the study and resolve such issues as prejudice and
discrimination. Early

The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime Summary
The Moral Ambivalence of Crime Response
In Reiman story, The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society, the author tells how one
experience in the summer of 2005 shaped his view on crime after writing and thinking about it for
over thirty five years. While in France on a summer vacation with his wife, they become a victim
of a crime where the assailants grabbed what they could, a duffle bag and his wife s purse, and ran
off. He stated that when the instant first occurred he was so angry that he may have killed them if
he could have caught up with them, but after a few days, he didn t worry about it and his wife and
he had a wonderful vacation. The author concluded that after having time to think over the
situation, he believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the author was in France, he expected this safety, but he was robbed of the safety when the
criminals broke the moral agreement of the law and disturbed the peace. The criminals were from
the ghettos of France and the author stated that they couldn t have been older than fourteen. The
society in France is not based upon John Rawls s difference principle which states that the just
society benefits the least advantaged yet the world does not function this way. From birth, the
children living in this ghetto were at a disadvantage. The criminals were not born to break the
social contract and disturb the peace, but the strain from the lack of resources and others having
more caused them to turn to crime as a viable solution. This example of distributive injustice was a
primary cause of the crime that these kids committed and the author acknowledges this and states
that he understands the choices these kids made and in turn does not want them punished for taking
what they think is theirs, but rather taking their sense of stability and predictability. Consensus
theorists want to know the origin of the crime and they believe that the environment are relevant to
fostering a criminal. The author s purpose for writing this article was to bring to the public s mind
that breaking a crime is not just black and white, but often falls into a grey

Analysis of You Just Don t Understand, Men and Women in Conversation by Deborah Tannen In
the first chapter of her book, You Just Don t Understand, Men and Women in Conversation,
Deborah Tannen quotes, ...studies have shown that married couples that live together spend less
than half an hour a week talking to each other... . (24) This book is a wonderful tool for couples
to use for help in understanding each other. The two things it stresses most is to listen, and to
make yourself heard. This book opened my eyes to the relationship I am in now, with a wonderful

Josh got a call at work from an old high school friend that would be in town that month, and Josh
invited him to stay at his house for the weekend, without first checking with Linda. Linda was
upset when she heard this news because she was away on business the week before and that
Friday was to be her first night home. Linda was less upset by that fact, and more upset that Josh
had made plans without checking with her first, she would never make plans with anyone without
checking with Josh, and didn t understand why he couldn t show her the same courtesy. This
conflict affected Linda and Josh perhaps more so than another couple because it hit their primary
concerns. Linda was hurt because she felt Josh didn t care as much about her as she did for him.
And Josh was hurt because he felt that Linda was trying to control him, and limit his freedom.
Many women feel that it is expected for them to consult with their partners at every turn, while men
automatically make more decisions without asking their partners. Women may try to initiate a
relaxed conversation by asking What do you think? while men may feel that they are being forced
to decide. Tannen states that communication is a continual balancing act, juggling the conflicting
needs for intimacy and independence. To survive we need to act with concern for others but also
survive for ourselves. There has always been a common stereotype that women talk too

Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine Learning Essay
INTRODUCTION
Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a
branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that attempts to model high level
abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers which are composed of
multiple non linear and linear transformations.
Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors
Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used primarily for
energy savings and safety, in building automation. However, next generation buildings are intended
to be significantly more intelligent, having the capability to analyze space utilization, monitor
occupants comfort, and thereby generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure
that supports such robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current
sensing solutions are limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart sensors
are required which enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and accuracy of the data they
provide.
Data Analytics at the Sensor Node
The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a new approach to
building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push the analytics processing to the
sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud. This is commonly referred to as fog computing, or
edge computing, and this approach provides real time

Video Game Violence And Its Effects On Gamers
Video Game Violence and its effects on Gamers In recent years there has been a significant
increase of shooting incidents, specifically in America. When there is a shooting event the media
is quick to question if the suspect had a history of playing violent video games. There is already the
initial connection between video game violenceand aggression; but is this connection scientifically
correct? This topic interests me because of the increase in school shootings and violence. I have
personally heard many times that video game violence has led to many adolescents to extreme
forms of violence. Through what has been said in the media I decided to research the topic myself.
This is a current event issue that is a present reality for many college students. Does video game
violence directly relate to human violence? Does video game violence effect aggression? Does
technological advances and violent content effect humans and their aggression? Does violent video
games cause hostel thoughts? While researching the connection between video game violence and
violence in children I came across communication theories that can help us understand how these
two connect and effect people. From the text, Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond: An
Introduction to Modern Electronic Media there was research done to settle a debate coming from
research done in the early 60 s. The second round of research results came with two conflicting
theories. Catharsis theory and stimulation

Essay on Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things
Some believe that boundaries are made to be broken, that lines are meant to be crossed while
others believe that we should not move an ancient boundary stone set up by [our] forefathers
(Proverbs 22:28). Everywhere we look, we come across a moral boundary that we at least think we
should not cross, but cross nonetheless. As ye sow, ye shall reap is a familiar proverb we have
all heard at one point in our lives (Roy 31). But is it true? Do we really get what we deserve? And
if so, who then decides what is right and wrong? Who draws the line? Who sets the boundary? In
Arundhati Roys The God of Small Things, most of the characters cross a moral boundary, we see
boundaries that are accommodated, confronted and even shattered.... Show more content on

Throughout the novel it becomes virtually impossible to think of the twins Velutha and Estha as
two separate individuals but as one person. Estha has many issues and emotions that he continually
suppresses while Rahel is damaged mentally by her mothers crude, judgmental comments as well
as neglect force her and Estha to rely merely on each other. These pent up emotions only become
unbearable and in a desperate attempt to release their emotions and express their feelings the two
share intercourse which seemed to be the only escape, Only that what they shared that night was
not happiness, but hideous grief. Only that once again they broke the Love Laws. They lay down
who should be loved (311). The ever so discrete language and brief description in this scene
could easily be overlooked. It brings a tone that isn t in any way disturbing but necessary. It
brings a sense of relief because the twins finally discover a way to truly become one in the most
intimate way and share their pain with one another making the idea of incest almost obsolete the
idea of the twins sharing something as powerful as intercourse becomes completely acceptable .

A Dark Gloomy Night By Leonardo Da Vinci
On a dark gloomy night in the middle of field in Paris, it was drizzling. This field appeared to be
no different from any other that is until a ghost ascended out of the ground. This ghost was
Leonardo Da Vinci and he had returned for a purpose. To steal the Mona Lisa, why, well you re
going to have to figure that out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the bustling city of Paris it was getting chilly, the wind whipped my long black hair around as I
stood in front of the newspaper machine. I was just about to insert a shiny quarter when she heard
someone yell at her. Nicole! Guess what, my friend Melodie screamed from across the street,
Someone stole a painting at the Louvre. Come here it s in the paper. She hurriedly gestured for me
to cross the street. I sighed disappointedly as I trudged across the street, pulling my furry coat
around myself tighter. I glared at my slightly short friend; her short light brown hair was violently
whipping around her head. Her light blue eyes were practically glowing. What painting, I asked in
submitance because I knew she wouldn t give up. The Mona Lisa, you probably haven t heard of it,
Melodie said disappointedly. Melodie worked at the cafГ© next to the famous Louvre museum, so
naturally she would be the first on to hear about it. It s the painting by Leonardo Da Vinci with the
woman on the dreary background and she s kind of smiling, She explained excitedly. I looked at
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Diagnostic Imaging
INTRODUCTION
Modern medicine has undergone major advancements over the past years. One of these
developments include the capacity to retrieve crucial information about the human body and its
health beyond the use of manual diagnostic techniques. This is referred to as Medical or Diagnostic
Imaging.
Medical or Diagnostic Imaging refers to the various techniques that can be used to see inside the
human body. Its non invasive nature means that the body does not have to be opened up surgically
for medical practitioners to view the organs anatomically. In clinical settings, it can be used to aid
in the diagnosis or treatment of different ailments. Many kinds of medical imaging techniques have
already been developed, each with their own advantages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
Early diagnosis provided by its sophisticated technology saves countless patient lives, and without
its help, we wouldn t have been able to develop cures or treatments for many diseases. Its ability to
monitor subtle changes in patients that would otherwise be missed by unassisted human eyes is
also a hallmark of modern clinical practice.
The radiograph, one of the most common diagnostic imaging tools utilized in this field, possesses a
very important component called contrast. Contrast helps radiologists perceive image detail and
glean information from the area of interest. Radiation Technologists, or Rad Techs, should always
ensure that radiographs have the right amount of contrast so that the radiologist can easily read
them for faster diagnosis.
In terms of education, enormous equipment and expensive yet high quality machines have always
surrounded the College of Medical Radiation Technology (or CMRT). However, it is not just about
the cost but also about their effectiveness and usefulness for the CMRT students. With these
machines, students get to have hands on activities that prepare them for when they take their
internship in hospitals and as future health
The Characters Of The Audience In Truman s The Truman Show
A narrative should feel real to an audience. Whether it be a book, TV, or film, we the audience
expect the characters and storyline to somehow depict our reality. To do this, films need to have
problems that the audience can relate to and must have characters that have similar characteristics
and backgrounds to the audience. If this can be achieved the audience s role of determining what is
realistic will be accomplished.
An audience wants to be invested and it is their role to be. They crave for the feeling of reality as
it takes their minds off their own problems. In order to make that work, new problems must be
created that are plausible to the viewer. By doing this, the audience is able to feel more involved
when a character is able to overcome something he/she has struggled for. These struggles can be
as simple as getting work done on time or paying bills. And being as hard as dealing with a serious
injury or even death. In The Truman Show, the audience is shown to be most involved when
Truman faces a problem in his enclosed life. These problems are relatable to the viewer because
they are problems that anyone in society could face unannounced. For example, Truman s struggle
to find the truth is what gets the audience in the film on their seats because everyone has searched
for the truth to something. We see people in the audience at work, but instead of doing their job,
they are invested in the character they have come to know and love. They feel down when he is hit
How Does Burton Raffel Use Biblical Allusions In Beowulf
What A Paradox!
In the translation of the poem Beowulf by Burton Raffel, the oppositional ideals especially
regarding heroism in Christianity and the Anglo Saxon culture creates a powerful distance between
the two, increasing the prevention of Beowulf s Christian audience from relating to Beowulf
himself. Instances of Christian references in the translation are repetitively contradicted by the
actions and motivations of Beowulf s characters. The heroic values of the Anglo Saxon culture are
so much more conceited than those of Christianity. The Beowulf translator drives apart the two
cultures by presenting Anglo Saxon and Christian ideals that are paradoxical. The characters in both
Beowulf and The Bible undergo similar moral tests and prove to hold contradictory morals,
influences, and motivations through their words and actions. This opposition between the ideals of
the two cultures weaken their relationship as well as the sense of familiarity to some of the
Christian audience.
The differentiation of the values and actions of characters from both Beowulf and The Bible
throughout the translation shown in the choices that the characters make demonstrate
incomparable ethics. The Bible is filled, on most pages, of lessons revolving around selflessness
and an emphasis on detachment from material goods, aspects that are found in almost every
Christian hero. In the writings of The Bible, this value is strongly emphasized in writings that
preach lessons such as:
CONTROLLING HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE High blood pressure is also controlled by snake
venom. The venom of Pit Viper consists of the component known as ACE inhibiter. This ACE
inhibiter is proved to enlarge the narrowed blood vessels so that the flow of blood gets smooth.
This ACE inhibiter is isolated from the Viper s venom and is injected for treating high blood
It is very difficult to think of the dreadful, fatal snake and consider it as helpful in making cure for
In my opinion , the most profound philosopher happens to be Athenian Philosopher Socrates. In
comparison to Prince Arjuna I believe that both philosophers possess the qualities and
characteristics of very wise men. In this essay I am going to compare two philosophers who may
have had different values but similar beliefs. In Socrates The Apology Socrates explained to the
public why he should not be put to death because of his choice to believe in another God. The
people of Athens were lead to believe that Socrates was also corrupting the youth to believe in
other Gods as well. In Socrates the Apology he states I have a divine sign [daimonion] from the
This is what has prevented me from taking part in public affairs, and I think it was quite right to
result both of the two had conversations that enlightened them to do what fit best in that period of
Personally speaking I believe that Socrates and Ajurna had many similarities with a few
differences. The two philosophers were on the same path and had similar characteristics. They both
were very intelligent men who looked at the world with more of an open minded view which
brought trouble their way. It is safe to say that they both have made an impact in Philosophy and
Leo Steinberg Flatbed Picture Plane Analysis
In the late 1950s, Rauschenberg began to make the groundbreaking works he dubbed Combines.
These works inspired Leo Steinberg s theorization of the flatbed picture plane. This term was
posited in his essay Reflections on the State of Criticism. The essay s first manifestation was as a
lecture given at the Museum of Modern Artin March 1968, and was subsequently published in
Artforum in 1972. Notably, it was also the title essay in Steinberg s book Other Criteria:
Confrontation with Twentieth Century Art, of 1972. Steinberg s notion of the flatbed picture plane
has several facets. This picture plane relies on the actual flatness of the paintings surface, the
The Conflict Of Love In The Outsiders By S. E Hinton
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, 1960, all people could see in each other was Greaser or Soc. Gangs bonded
over the rivalry between themselves. The separation was the only thing they could both connect
over. In Hinton s The Outsiders, Hinton describes the story of a Greaser named Ponyboy, who is
affected severely by the division between the two gangs. This rift causes fights, rumbles, and
members of either side being jumped and attacked. In this novel, Hinton proves how someone s love
can overcome any obstacle, which can lead to living a life with love and hope and how it can be
the death of you, and how a loved one can kill you, even if they care for you just as much. In S.E
Hinton s The Outsiders, Hinton depicts a world where love is a vital need but a mortal danger.
A strong, loving bond is all you need to break the obstacles in your way. On the way home after a
fight with Darry, Ponyboy and Johnny encounter a group of Socs in their territory. A fight
ensues between them, and it ends when one of the Socs, is drowning Ponyboy, and as a result,
Robert Bob Sheldon lost his life to Johnny and his switchblade. Johnny gave his innocence
because of his love for Ponyboy, proving how love is a danger beyond belief. There were ways
the death could have been avoided, but Johnny was scared beyond belief to the point where he
was willing to sacrifice his chances at happiness for his best friend. Johnny says, I had to. They
were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you (Hinton 57).
How Rituals Permit the Practice of Worship in Hinduism Essay
Ritual is a religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a
prescribed order. Hinduism major religious and cultural tradition of the Indian subcontinent,
developed from Vedic religion.. There are two types of worship such as: temple worship and
domestic worship. Therefore, within these types of worshipping there are rituals that are performed.
Some of these rituals include prasad, darshan, and puja. Thus, A ritualfunction is a tradition that is
Second, darshan is part of the tradition when Hindus make a pilgrimage or visit to the temple.
Darshan is the seeing and being seen by the deity in the temple or by a holy teacher and the
experience of beholding with faith. (Oxtoby p.320) Also, according to Lucy Du Pertuis, darshan
means sight of the deity or the guru who embodies him/her, usually for the purpose of imbibing his
Third, domestic worship also known as puja is a significant way for Hindus to express their
devotion. Domestic worship is when Hindus express their devotion to a deity or spiritual teacher
is through rituals performed in the household. According to the Oxtoby: Daily puja typically
consists of simple acts in which all family members can take part, such as lighting oil lamps, and
incense sticks, reciting prayers, or offering food to the deity. (Oxtoby p.300) Many of the
domestic rituals are more particularized towards females of the households. In India, women
gather around on fixed days to celebrate the goddess by fasting and feasting. Moreover, the women
would consist of performing rituals for happiness of the whole clan. As an example, in
Does Technology Help Children Help Or Hinder Their Social...
Summary of the research question and outcome
My guiding question for the research project was, Does the use of technology to entertain
children help or hinder their social development? My interest in this topic was triggered by the
previous research project that was carried out in year 10. That project had a lot to do with human
health and the factors that affect that, so I decided to explore that in further depth using a
different topic. Technology is becoming an increasingly more central aspect of people s lives and
hence it is an issue in society. I wanted to explore this topic and gain knowledge, which could then
be used to share with others who are concerned about the problem. My research was carried out
mostly through secondary sources from the Internet and a primary source, which was an
observation. The key findings from my research were gathered and presented in the form of a
Cultural Relativism Vs Divine Command Theory
The biggest difference between Cultural Relativism and the Divine Command Theory is that
Divine Command Theory believes that rightness and morality is defined by and from God, Cultural
Relativism believes that rightness and morality is defined by cultures themselves.
Cultural Relativism is the idea that what is right and what is wrong depends on what culture you
live in. James Rachels in The Elements of Moral Philosophy used an example of Ancient Greeks
and the Callatians and their disposal of the dead. The Greeks believed that the most respectful way
to honor the dead is to cremate the body; the Callatians thought differently, they believe that the
most respectful way to honor the dead as to eat the body of the dead so that the family would
Higher Education Attorneys
College and universities deal with a myriad of issues that impact students, faculty, and
administrators. Mattie (2007) asserts risk can be defined as any issue that impacts an institution s
ability to meet its objectives (p. 3). Issues like sexual harassment, student discipline, free speech,
academic misconduct, tenure, race and religion are risk but how they are managed can impact
institutions. This review will examine Carol L. J. Hustoles 2012 dissertation Through the Eyes of
Higher EducationAttorneys: How Department Chairs Are Navigating the Waters of Legal Issues
Based on some of the findings from the study, it is suggested that institutions should: be proactively
providing training for their department chairs on legal and risk management issues while involving
legal counsel in training, increase the amount of training chairpersons receive, continuously involve
campus attorneys in issues that arise, and chairs should become familiar with the provisions in
collective bargaining. The study conducted by Hustoles provides great insight into how attorneys
view the role and performance of administrators. Although risk management is the task of everyone
on campus, attorneys have to deal with all legal issues on campus. Hustoles (2012) study also
sought to fill in the literature gap as there is no literature that discusses the attorneys view in risk
management. According to Hustoles this is the only study that offers that data. The study can be
beneficial to institutions as they train administrators to deal with risk
North Montana Will Apply The Choice Of Law Essay
The main question in this exercise is whether North Montana will apply the choice of law
provision in the contract between Good Hands and the Walmsleys. A forum applies its own
choice of law approach. So here the North Montana Court will apply the Second Restatement of
Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second Restatement, three main
steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or substantive, 2) whether there
is a choice of law provision in the contract, and whether that provision should be applied, and 3)
the application of the choice of law rules from the Second Restatement. Here, it appears that the
choice of law provision selecting Old York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the
general rule apply.
I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law
The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether the forum s rule is
procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts using
the Second Restatement follows the applicable provisions in the restatement. This is similar to the
first restatement besides evidentiary privileges and statute of limitations. One of the main tests is
whether a section of the Second Restatement classifies a question as substantive. Section 193 of the
Second Restatement, which is found in the Contracts rather than the Procedure chapter, governs the
validity of insurance contracts. Here, the question is about the validity
Pros And Cons Of Hohenzollern
8.5 Prussia.
The Old Baltic Prussians were pagans, invaded and Germanised by the Teutonic Knights as a
crusade during the 1200s . The Hohenzollerns were the Dukes of Nurenberg, to whom in 1398 the
Electorate of Brandenberg succeeded, and subsequently, the Duchy of Prussia in 1618 . Thus the
two geographically separate areas were joined by a Hohenzollern personal union, albeit a distance
apart.
The area was ravaged by the thirty years war, but strengthened by the development of a martial
culture by Fredrick William I (1640 88), and the subsequent declaration of the Kingdom of Prussia
in 1701 on the grounds of Baltic Prussia being outside the Holy Roman Empire, and therefore able
to be a monarchy. Subsequent Hohenzollern strategy was to extend ... Show more content on
By allowing the soldiers to return home at sowing and harvest times for the peasantry, and having
a short national service and continuing connection for the professional and Junker classes,
militarism was inculcated at all levels of society, and as part of the everyday rural village life .
This culture of widespread identification and active involvement with the military and civil
society was complemented by values of selfless hard work, inculcated by the behaviour of the
Fredricks themselves, particularly the personal example set by Fredrick II The Great , seen to
have had a very deprived childhood with his abusive and tyrannical father who executed his best
friend in front of him; who derided his interest in the arts and music, forcing him to learn the
martial arts, and who for the good of the country became a master military strategist and triumphal
It was on this cultural foundation that Bismarck was able to build the effective and militarily potent
This study investigated the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and heavy metal residues in
shellfish (shrimp, oyster and crab) collected from three Egyptian Governorates (Ismailia, Damietta
and Alexandria). Levels of 12 OCPs such as hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), aldrin, endrin and
dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) residues were investigated. The dominant detected OCPs
were ОІ HCH, p,p DDE and endrin. In general, contamination pattern of OCPs was in the order of
other OCPs (HCB, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, aldrin, endrin and Оі chlordane) HCHs DDTs.
Residual concentrations of some heavy metals and trace elements were also estimated. The highest
residual levels of OCPs and heavy metals were detected in oysters collected from Damietta. The
concentrations of OCPs and heavy metals in examined shellfish, generally, were below the
maximum residual level set by United States Food and Drug Administration and FAO. Therefore,
shellfish collected from these studied sites could be considered safe for human consumption.
Bioengineer s Role In Oryx And Crake
Bioengineer and its role in Oryx and Crake Oryx and Crake is one of my favorite readings in the
semester. I like the flow and arrangement of the plots. The novel is an enthralling post apocalyptic
story with a detailed description of the science and technology it based on. The most important
science and technology involved in the novel is genetic or Bioengineering. The novel was written
in late 20th century and early 21st century, a time when many breakthroughs and controversial
Bioengineering incidents took place. Atwood is known as an avid environmentalist of the time. She
was concerned about the ethical controversial and the downplay of the humanities at the time and
In the novel, the two main characters grew up in a cosmetic focused Bioengineering company s
compound. The creation of a compound integrating different functions and providing different
services for a company is not such a novel idea today. Many internet tycoons like Google and
Microsoft have their own campuses which provide similar services and amenities to their
employees as the compounds described in the book. However, to emphasize the effect
Bioengineering would have on a society, Atwood took a step forward by making the compounds
more secluded and exaggerated the power and functionalities of them. The seclusion created by
the Bioengineering companies directly led to the divided social classes. People who were
associated with companies resided in the privileged compound and people who were not related
to the company lived in the dangerous Pleebland. It was a privileged but also an underprivileged
to be in the compound in a way. Unlike the charitable attributes of technology companies
campuses today, the compounds in the book were created to withhold the scientists and protect
the Bioengineering secrets of the companies. Jimmy s mother viewed it as a prison and Jimmy
in the later chapters would try to use the word freedom to persuade his mistress to elope with him
to Pleebland. The corporate power enabled by exclusive Bioengineering technology can be seen
throughout the book. Bioengineering companies had control over every aspect of the daily life for
people live both inside and outside of the compounds. Atwood warned the risks of having
monopoly Bioengineering companies by making all the companies in the book monopolies. This
kind of monopoly enabled technological power to develop into political power and eliminated the
existence of any modern government structures. The overpowering of the Bioengineering
In the book Killing Kennedy it says that Lincoln and Kennedy had many similarities, and they
do. There are many similarities between John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. These
similarities can range from a simple year to in depth details. Details like Booth and Oswald were
both killed before being brought to trial. Most of the similarities are fact except a few like,
Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy and Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln. Only
Kennedy s secretary was named Lincoln, there is no record of a Kennedy. The elections and time
in office were almost exactly alike. They were both elected into congress in 46 and elected as
facts is that Lincoln was shot at fords theatre and Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln car made by ford.
My Passion For Criminal Justice
For as long as I can remember I ve had a passion for the criminal justice field. I once dreamed
about becoming a lawyer until I realized my desire for truly helping individuals master a sense of
accomplishment and self worth. Admiring my mother being a licensed clinical social worker for
the developmental disabilities population I too wanted to assist individuals with gratifying change
through behaviormodification. I later confirm my admiration and desire to assist in a person s
self accomplishment working as a teacher aid during the summer of my freshman and sophomore
years of high school. It was not only satisfying to see the over flow of joy whenever I helped a
child reach a new goal but to know I assisted them to that accomplishment made it all worthwhile.
Additionally, holding an interest in criminal justice and human services I found a child advocacy
program which fit my desire to gain more knowledge of the law regarding child protection in
conjunction to the psychological hardships abuse and neglect have on the child victim and their
families.
Further into my academic study of child advocacy I grew an intense passion for the psychological
aspect of the study, not only for the child victims but for the offenders as well. I speculated the
mens rea of child predators, what would make someone commit crimes on children more
importantly how could those offenders be educated to correct their unacceptable societal behavior. I
Modulating Gene Expression with Multiple Intermediate Steps
Gene expression can be modulated by multiple intermediate steps, including transcription, post
transcriptional modifications, RNA splicing, translation, and post translational modifications;
transcription being the first step and a key mechanism for regulating gene expression.
Transcriptional control is mediated through promoters and regulatory elements, which are all
essential for spatiotemporally correct gene expression. Genome organization has been undoubtedly
linked with regulation of geneexpression through global analyses of mammalian genomes. Previous
hypotheses suggested that genome is arranged as independently regulated chromosomal domains
flanked by boundary elements (i.e. insulators). This might be true in compact genomes of
organisms such as yeasts (e.g. S. cerevisiae 12.1 Mb), where an uninterrupted genomic segment (i.e.
regulatory expression unit) is formed comprising of a particular gene and its regulatory elements.
Nevertheless, in more complex genomes such as those of humans (H. sapiens 3.2 Gb) and mouse
(M. musculus 2.7 Gb) the situation is substantially more complex, where genes and their regulatory
elements can be dispersed over many hundreds of kilobases. These observations concur with current
hypotheses, where cis regulatory elements including Locus Control Regions (LCRs), enhancers,
silencers, and insulators, may be dispersed over tens to thousands of kilobases. Furthermore, cis
regulatory elements of one gene are commonly embedded within a neighbour
The Importance Of The Internet On The Internet
I agree with net neutrality because the internet has became such an important impact on our
lives that its very very easy to imagine that it will always remain the free and open medium it is
now. For those whose don t know what net neutrality is , it basicially lets you watch all your videos
and allow you to get on the internet for free. Other people tend to agree with having not to pay for
all of our websites. While others , including me , who does agree with what may or may not
happen. Most people can t afford a simple bill for cable , so why would you want to pay for every
websitethat you go on, like Youube. We all love watching our free YouTube
videos, but imagine
having to pay for getting on the app or watching in via web. It would be a pain having to do all
the paper work just to pay for everything you watch. If the internet wasn t free than its really not
the internet if you really think about. The internet gives u so much information that everyone
should be allowed to see. If we were to pay for the internet , we wouldn t know as much as we do
right at this very moment. Every cell phone company and the internet would have control on what
you can watch and what you cant watch which is not right because we have the rights to do what
we want and we should be able to go on any website we want to. Net neutrality also affects
In 2003, the Boeing Company announced plans to build a new super efficient commercial jet
called the 7E7 or Dreamliner. This was a bet the farm gamble by Boeing, similar in magnitude to
its earlier introductions of the 747 and 777 airliners. The technological superiority of the new
airframe, as well as the fact that it would penetrate a rapidly growing market segment, were
arguments for approval of the project. On the other hand, the current market for commercial
3. How would we know if the 7E7 project will create value?
Students may be familiar with the classic NPV criterion. This case invites them to focus on the
internal rate of return (IRR). If the IRR is greater than the project cost of capital, the 7E7 is a
positive net present value project.1 A discussion of why this is true provides a solid big picture
foundation for the case decision. The project IRRs are presented in case Exhibit 9. Therefore, the
focus of student analysis should be on determining the benchmark against which to evaluate the
IRRs. Thus, this part of the discussion helps to motivate the analysis of WACC. Some students may
have voted in a manner that contradicts the IRR versus the cost of capital decision rule. This sets
up the next question.
Effects Of The On Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
During 1720 1750, there was a limited amount of control on the production and selling of gin in
England due to Parliament. This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal
and infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of
alcohol was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition
on alcohol in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments
with alcohol were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal
birth defects called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness
experienced during pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs
given during pregnancy, affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two
pediatricians, David Smith and Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of
abnormalities present at birth, published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In their study, they
examined eight children to determine what caused their developmental impediments. These
children were characterized with growth deficiencies, microcephaly, and impaired cognitive
development. All their mothers were alcoholics, which resulted in Smith and Jones to believe
alcohol was causing defects in the offspring [2]. Many discoveries have been made since 1973 that
involve fetal exposure to alcohol,
How Did The Gold Rushes Affect Australia s Economy
Introduction
The gold rushes was a major event in Australian history. The gold rushes were important because
it shaped Australia s economy. The gold rushes started in 1851 when Edward/William Hammond
Hargreaves discovered gold in the New South Wales colony on the 12th of February. The gold
rushes made people quit their jobs with hope that they would find gold and become rich. In 1852
the gold rushes bought 90,000 people to Victoria. When all the hotels and all the accommodation
was full people started putting up tents. One example is canvas city located in Victoria. The gold
Essay On Periodic Swarms
Periodic spatiotemporal swarms mining periodic swarms, even though there are some redundant
periodic swarms. To solve this problem we use parsimonious periodic swarm mining method which
is more efficient and effective. In the Figure ref{example6}(a), we see that periodic swarms
$(left{o_1, o_2right}, left{T_1, T_3right}, L_1)$ and $(left{o_1, o_2right}, left{T_2,
Therefore, the closed swarms are not greater than the number of long time spatiotemporal swarms.
Furthermore, mining parsimonious periodic swarms we use periodic swarms according to the
swarms. If any swarms are not subsumed by other swarms, then the number of parsimonious
periodic swarms equal to the number of periodic swarms, i.e., $|PPS|^{swarms}leq
the number of parsimonious periodic swarms is less than the number of periodic swarms that
The Moral Ambivalence Of Crime Summary The Moral Ambivalence of Crime Response In Reiman story, The Moral Ambivalence of Crime in an Unjust Society, the author tells how one experience in the summer of 2005 shaped his view on crime after writing and thinking about it for over thirty five years. While in France on a summer vacation with his wife, they become a victim of a crime where the assailants grabbed what they could, a duffle bag and his wife s purse, and ran off. He stated that when the instant first occurred he was so angry that he may have killed them if he could have caught up with them, but after a few days, he didn t worry about it and his wife and he had a wonderful vacation. When the author was in France, he expected this safety, but he was robbed of the safety when the criminals broke the moral agreement of the law and disturbed the peace. The criminals were from the ghettos of France and the author stated that they couldn t have been older than fourteen. The society in France is not based upon John Rawls s difference principle which states that the just society benefits the least advantaged yet the world does not function this way. From birth, the children living in this ghetto were at a disadvantage. The criminals were not born to break the social contract and disturb the peace, but the strain from the lack of resources and others having more caused them to turn to crime as a viable solution. This example of distributive injustice was a primary cause of the crime that these kids committed and the author acknowledges this and states that he understands the choices these kids made and in turn does not want them punished for taking what they think is theirs, but rather taking their sense of stability and predictability. Consensus theorists want to know the origin of the crime and they believe that the environment are relevant to fostering a criminal. The author s purpose for writing this article was to bring to the public s mind that breaking a crime is not just black and white, but often falls into a grey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine Learning Essay INTRODUCTION Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that attempts to model high level abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers which are composed of multiple non linear and linear transformations. Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used primarily for energy savings and safety, in building automation. However, next generation buildings are intended to be significantly more intelligent, having the capability to analyze space utilization, monitor occupants comfort, and thereby generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure that supports such robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current sensing solutions are limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart sensors are required which enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and accuracy of the data they provide. Data Analytics at the Sensor Node The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a new approach to building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push the analytics processing to the sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud.   • 12. The Characters Of The Audience In Truman s The Truman Show A narrative should feel real to an audience. Whether it be a book, TV, or film, we the audience expect the characters and storyline to somehow depict our reality. To do this, films need to have problems that the audience can relate to and must have characters that have similar characteristics and backgrounds to the audience. If this can be achieved the audience s role of determining what is realistic will be accomplished. An audience wants to be invested and it is their role to be. They crave for the feeling of reality as it takes their minds off their own problems. In order to make that work, new problems must be created that are plausible to the viewer. By doing this, the audience is able to feel more involved when a character is able to overcome something he/she has struggled for. These struggles can be as simple as getting work done on time or paying bills. And being as hard as dealing with a serious injury or even death. In The Truman Show, the audience is shown to be most involved when Truman faces a problem in his enclosed life. These problems are relatable to the viewer because they are problems that anyone in society could face unannounced. For example, Truman s struggle to find the truth is what gets the audience in the film on their seats because everyone has searched for the truth to something.   • 13. How Does Burton Raffel Use Biblical Allusions In Beowulf What A Paradox! In the translation of the poem Beowulf by Burton Raffel, the oppositional ideals especially regarding heroism in Christianity and the Anglo Saxon culture creates a powerful distance between the two, increasing the prevention of Beowulf s Christian audience from relating to Beowulf himself. Instances of Christian references in the translation are repetitively contradicted by the actions and motivations of Beowulf s characters. The heroic values of the Anglo Saxon culture are so much more conceited than those of Christianity. The Beowulf translator drives apart the two cultures by presenting Anglo Saxon and Christian ideals that are paradoxical. The characters in both Beowulf and The Bible undergo similar moral tests and prove to hold contradictory morals, influences, and motivations through their words and actions. This opposition between the ideals of the two cultures weaken their relationship as well as the sense of familiarity to some of the Christian audience. The differentiation of the values and actions of characters from both Beowulf and The Bible throughout the translation shown in the choices that the characters make demonstrate incomparable ethics. The Bible is filled, on most pages, of lessons revolving around selflessness and an emphasis on detachment from material goods, aspects that are found in almost every Christian hero. North Montana Will Apply The Choice Of Law Essay The main question in this exercise is whether North Montana will apply the choice of law provision in the contract between Good Hands and the Walmsleys. A forum applies its own choice of law approach. So here the North Montana Court will apply the Second Restatement of Conflicts of Laws as the state follows that approach. Under the Second Restatement, three main steps need to be considered: 1) whether the conflict is procedural or substantive, 2) whether there is a choice of law provision in the contract, and whether that provision should be applied, and 3) the application of the choice of law rules from the Second Restatement. Here, it appears that the choice of law provision selecting Old York should be applied because none of the exceptions to the general rule apply. I.Procedural vs. Substantive Law The first step under the Second Restatement approach is to determine whether the forum s rule is procedural or substantive. If a rule is procedural than a forum will apply its own law. Courts using the Second Restatement follows the applicable provisions in the restatement. This is similar to the first restatement besides evidentiary privileges and statute of limitations. One of the main tests is whether a section of the Second Restatement classifies a question as substantive. This study investigated the levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and heavy metal residues in shellfish (shrimp, oyster and crab) collected from three Egyptian Governorates (Ismailia, Damietta and Alexandria). Levels of 12 OCPs such as hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), aldrin, endrin and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs) residues were investigated. The dominant detected OCPs were ОІ HCH, p,p DDE and endrin. In general, contamination pattern of OCPs was in the order of other OCPs (HCB, heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, aldrin, endrin and Оі chlordane) HCHs DDTs. Residual concentrations of some heavy metals and trace elements were also estimated. The highest residual levels of OCPs and heavy metals were detected in oysters collected from Damietta. The concentrations of OCPs and heavy metals in examined shellfish, generally, were below the maximum residual level set by United States Food and Drug Administration and FAO. Therefore, shellfish collected from these studied sites could be considered safe for human consumption. Keywords: Organochlorine pesticides; Heavy metals; Shellfish; Egypt Introduction Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) are persistent pollutants of worldwide concerns owing to their environmental persistence, bioaccumulation and magnification ability in the food chain and potential toxicity in humans and wildlife (Jones and de Voogt, 1999).These chemicals can enter the aquatic environment and can be transported into the food chains and accumulated in ... The novel is an enthralling post apocalyptic story with a detailed description of the science and technology it based on. The most important science and technology involved in the novel is genetic or Bioengineering. The novel was written in late 20th century and early 21st century, a time when many breakthroughs and controversial Bioengineering incidents took place. The creation of a compound integrating different functions and providing different services for a company is not such a novel idea today. Many internet tycoons like Google and Microsoft have their own campuses which provide similar services and amenities to their employees as the compounds described in the book. However, to emphasize the effect Bioengineering would have on a society, Atwood took a step forward by making the compounds more secluded and exaggerated the power and functionalities of them. The seclusion created by the Bioengineering companies directly led to the divided social classes. People who were associated with companies resided in the privileged compound and people who were not related to the company lived in the dangerous Pleebland. It was a privileged but also an underprivileged to be in the compound in a way. Unlike the charitable attributes of technology companies campuses today, the compounds in the book were created to withhold the scientists and protect the Bioengineering secrets of the companies. Jimmy s mother viewed it as a prison and Jimmy in the later chapters would try to use the word freedom to persuade his mistress to elope with him to Pleebland. The corporate power enabled by exclusive Bioengineering technology can be seen throughout the book. Bioengineering companies had control over every aspect of the daily life for people live both inside and outside of the compounds. Atwood warned the risks of having monopoly Bioengineering companies by making all the companies in the book monopolies. This kind of monopoly enabled technological power to develop into political power and eliminated the existence of any modern government structures.   • 35. Modulating Gene Expression with Multiple Intermediate Steps Gene expression can be modulated by multiple intermediate steps, including transcription, post transcriptional modifications, RNA splicing, translation, and post translational modifications; transcription being the first step and a key mechanism for regulating gene expression. Transcriptional control is mediated through promoters and regulatory elements, which are all essential for spatiotemporally correct gene expression. Genome organization has been undoubtedly linked with regulation of geneexpression through global analyses of mammalian genomes. Previous hypotheses suggested that genome is arranged as independently regulated chromosomal domains flanked by boundary elements (i.e. insulators). This might be true in compact genomes of organisms such as yeasts (e.g. S. cerevisiae 12.1 Mb), where an uninterrupted genomic segment (i.e. regulatory expression unit) is formed comprising of a particular gene and its regulatory elements. Nevertheless, in more complex genomes such as those of humans (H. sapiens 3.2 Gb) and mouse (M. musculus 2.7 Gb) the situation is substantially more complex, where genes and their regulatory elements can be dispersed over many hundreds of kilobases. These observations concur with current hypotheses, where cis regulatory elements including Locus Control Regions (LCRs), enhancers, silencers, and insulators, may be dispersed over tens to thousands of kilobases. Furthermore, cis regulatory elements of one gene are commonly embedded within a neighbour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
How would we know if the 7E7 project will create value? Students may be familiar with the classic NPV criterion. This case invites them to focus on the internal rate of return (IRR). If the IRR is greater than the project cost of capital, the 7E7 is a positive net present value project.1 A discussion of why this is true provides a solid big picture foundation for the case decision. This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal and infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of alcohol was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition on alcohol in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments with alcohol were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal birth defects called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness experienced during pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs given during pregnancy, affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two pediatricians, David Smith and Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of abnormalities present at birth, published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
