Dante s Inferno, By Dante
Dante s Inferno
Throughout the story Dante s Inferno, Dante takes a trip through hell to reach what he calls
paradise. During Dante s journey to hell he goes through the nine circles called: limbo, lust,
gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. With each of the circles in hell
, there
is a punishment that resembles each of sins committed. Based on the reactions that the pilgrims
give through textual conversations between Virgil and Dante. It can be concluded that the pilgrim
has acquired knowledge throughout his journey. Dante notifies the readers by saying strayed,
leaving the path of truth (Dante 67), which helps the reader comprehend the purpose of his
journey throughout the book. Agreeing to the text, Dante tried to climb a hill that would lead
him to paradise, but could not be obtained anything because the book state s the beast was there
blocking his way (Dante 68) meaning Dante. Since the beast would not allow Dante to pass, it
was understood that in order to move higher, one must achieve the understanding of the process.
In this case, Dante would have to go through an external place (Dante 71) to achieve getting to
his paradise. Dante gives some types of hints, giving away that the pilgrims has also committed
sins, but does not go in depth on what it is he has committed to actually go to hell and redeem
himself so he can go to paradise or in other words heaven. This journey is just so Dante would get

Octavius Augustus Ceasar s Thirst for Power
Octavius Caesar was known as a cruel, power hungry leader, that had the desire and thirst, to
obtain all the power he could. Octavius had such a hunger for power, he wouldn t let anything stand
in his way of getting it.
Octavius Caesar, otherwise known as Caesar Augustus, was the first emperor of the Roman Empire.
Octavius was born in September of 63 B.C, and died sometime in august of 14 A.D. He lived to
be 76 years of age, there are many conspiracies that say his wife may have poisoned him, but
most people say he died of natural causes. Caesar had a lot of adoptive children, such as Gaius
and Lucius Caesar, Agrippa Postumus and Tiberius. Tiberius is the successor to the throne after
Caesar dies. Tiberius took the throne after Octavius died in 14 A.D.
Octavius was born into a family with few connections. He was a sickly child; he was small in
stature, with bad teeth and spots covering his body, with many birthmarks on his chest and belly.
Octavius was the great nephew of Julius Caesar; Julius Caesar won the civil war in 46 B.C, and
was named dictator of Rome Julius then said to the people I came, I saw, I conquered . Julius
needed and heir to succeed him. Having no children he adopted Octavius. His name was then
changed to Gaius Julius Caesar. Octavius did not learn of this until the assassination of Julius
Caesar, and it wasn t until the reading of Julius will that everyone learned that Octavius was now
the successor to Julius, and the power he had was going to Octavius.

Canadian Success During The War Of 1812
Canadian Success in the War of 1812 The War of 1812 is a war that stemmed from the Napoleonic
wars in Europe into North America. It is a result of conflict between America and Britain and is
now something that has left a mark on both American and Canadian history. For the Americans it is
something that they are ashamed of and tend not to think about too much, but for the Canadians it
has much more meaning. Some historians believe that this event, this success, is what sent Canada
on its way to separating from Britain and becoming its own nation. The success of Canada in this
war can be attributed to the leadership abilities of men such as Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseh, the
unity of Upper and Lower Canada as well as the need and want to fight on the behalf of citizens
of these colonies. The good leadership, the unity of the colonies and the desire to defend
themselves are the reasons for Canada s success in the defense of their homeland and the defeat of
the Americans in the War of 1812. The leadership abilities of the Canadian military men are what
truly inspired the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada in the battle against America. In particular
Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseh were two men who, through both their courage and battle tactics
encouraged and inspired the fight in the citizens in both colonies. Sir Isaac Brock was the
commander of the British forces in Canada at the time of the war and was not entirely happy with
his position in Canada due to the fact that he

Theme Of First Love By William Clare
William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 The Marriage of True Minds is one of his most famous poem
that he ever written. The main theme of the poem is about true love and showing how the author
disseminated his thoughts about the elevated quality of love.
The author started his first quatrain with the statement Let me not to the marriage of true minds .
With the declaration, the readers may surmise that the poem is referring to a married couple. Yet,
the author is metaphorically used the phrase to indicate the theme of the poem true love.
Importantly, we noticed minds has been chosen as the symbol for their love instead of heart or
body . The author chose minds because it defines an understanding couple or soul mates we may

In Clare s eyes, love is dark and detrimental; love can bring death to you and dominates your
body. The contrast of midnight and noonday emphasises how negative he is to life after the
heartbreak. She uses him as an entertainment, deadly pale indicates she rejected his feeling and
makes him fall in love once again blood rushed to my face without having any choice. Moreover,
the used of clay to describe him supports the idea of his life and future are in her hand. The
dullness of clay suggests the happy ending of him with Mary Joyce could never

These requirements define what is acceptable as capital and provide for standard methods of
measuring the risks incurred by the Bank. APRA has set minimum ratios that compare the
regulatory capital with risk weighted on and off balance sheet assets. The minimum risk weighted
capital ratio is 8%. The following formula is used to calculate the risk weighted capital ratio:
Risk weighted capital ratio = Qualifying capital . Total risk weighted assets
The numerator of the ratio is qualifying capital, which includes Tier 1 capital such as paid up
ordinary shares and retained profits, and Tier 2 capital such as term subordinated debt after making
required deductions for items such as goodwill and equity holdings in other banks.
Equity capital is a permanent commitment of funds which earns the residual income of the firm

Taking a Look at Garden Cities
Garden cities, whether the appropriate concept in sustainable urban planning?
Introduction
It is widely acknowledged that Ebenezer Howard s Garden City stimulated many significant urban
design achievements in worldwide. Whether the theory is still suitable for sustainable urban
planning in twenty one century has been widely discussed. Some approvers argue that Howard
provided the idea of self sufficiency and limited growths still remain. However, the theory has been
denounced because it is too idealistic, difficult to implement. Therefore, this paper will first review
the original concept of Garden city, then examine legacy of the Garden Cities whether they have
proved to be successful, sustainable places. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first
section, the concept of Garden city will be first explained. In the second part, the discussion of
Garden city concept will be presented. Then, case study on modern garden city will be described at
last. The study shows, the ideas of Garden City have been widely misinterpreted, leading potential
risks on environment. In addition, to some extent, the morphological model of Garden city is not
appropriate any more due to vehicles dependency and new communication modes changed the
planning concept.
The concept of Garden City
In Garden Cities of To morrow, Howard (1902) provided a detailed discussion for new social and
city reform. The overall goal for Howard is to combine the traditional countryside with the

Importance of Cross Cultural Communications
Effective cross cultural communication is one of the most important issues dealt with in business,
particularly when a firm operates at an international level. Communication is a process with three
key elements, which includes a source, an audience, and a channel. Communication derived from
businesses will have listeners that include, but are not limited to customers, employees, suppliers,
and the community (Caddy et al.). These listeners contribute to the success of a firm, which is why
there is so much emphasis put into creating appropriate channels of communication. This effect is
further amplified when dealing at an international level, where the effect of cultureand time has
more bearing.
What makes effective communication important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many cultures employ a hierarchical approach to communication, but often this method of results in
important issues being dodged. This problem is highlighted in an (Nakamoto 2008) article on
Japanese companies. In the article it is reported that many of the Japanese companies employ a very
rigid communication structure, and overseas managers were hired to create a more efficient
method of communication. An open exchange or direct method of communication is much more
effective as ideas can be garnered from different levels of the organisation.
Overcoming various linguistic issues is another operational benefit experienced when an effective
communication channel is established. Due to the legal issues of each country, language
differences do not only affect face o face interaction, but written communications as well (Bovee
2008). Through proper planning and research, however, a business is able to preempt such a
problem from occurring, possibly by arranging for an interpreter to translate.
Failing to establish an effective means for communication when an ethical issue arises can be
detrimental to the stability of a workplace. This problem is particularly pertinent, when you
consider the fact that globalization has diversified workplace cultures. This can lead to what
Huntington (cited in Eunson 2005) described as a clash of civilizations , due to the different
perspectives on morality in the western and eastern countries. Neglecting this issue can create

the ability to love. Love comes in many shapes and forms, but finding true love will give you

there are people who try their best to seek true love and never really succeed. According to a
blog, Why is true love so hard to find? by Kelly Benamati most people search for love in all the

Late Modern English, a global language spoken around the world by over 2 billion people can
trace its roots to the Germanic language introduced by Anglo Saxon invaders in the 5th century.
Before the arrival of the Anglo Saxons, many parts of Britain were bilingual Celtic Latin speakers,
although very few traces of Celtic remain in the English language other than in place names, for
example Avon and Ouse which derive from the Celtic word for water , and words found more in
local dialects than mainstream English for example broc for badger. The Germanic languages of the
Anglo Saxons themselves evolved as a result of centuries of Roman occupation and interaction
among different tribes.[1] Furthermore the invaders did not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Following the Norman Conquest, many words were borrowed from French. These words tend
to demonstrate the difference in status between the language of the conquerors, and that of the
conquered. The English words that remain are those of the lower classes in terms of clothing
shirt rather than apparel , for food sheep compared to mutton . In more modern times the
interaction of English speakers with other languages, through first colonialism, and later the
emergence of English as a global language has enriched the vocabulary ( pyjama ) and led to the
evolution of different versions of English around the world, for example the hybrid Singlish that
has emerged in Singapore. The integration of loan words into English were also a reflection of
how the language was used; French was the language of court government and law, and many
words used in these contexts are borrowed from French for example accuse justice and crime.
Returning to the Genesis texts, changes in the appearance of words (in particular the loss of some
characters) underline that English today is very different from English 1500 years ago. The
character Иќ has been replaced by y , The character ЖҐ has been replaced by the sound th in that,
З’ by the sound th in thin and Г¦ is used for the short a sound in nap . If we replace these characters
with their modern equivalents, then alien looking Old English words become much

Calpurnia And Caesar s Relationship
In analyzing the relationship between Brutus s and Caesar s relationships with their wives, one can
tell how they become influenced yet not completely swayed to their wives claim. This further
proves and enhances the ability to identify each of the character s personalities. For instance, this
dialogue between Calpurnia and Caesar reveal their personalities:
CALPHURNIA. Alas, my lord, your confidence is getting the better of your wisdom. Don t go out
today. Say that it s my fear that keeps you inside and not your own. We ll send Mark Antonyto the
senate house, and he ll say that you re sick today. (she kneels) Let me, on my knees, win you over
to this plan.
CAESAR. All right. Mark Antony will say I m not well, and to please you I ll stay at home(No

However, when Calpurnia beseeched Caesar on her knees, he changed his mind quickly. When
Calpurnia referred to Caesar s confidence, it can be interpreted as his ego and pride getting the
better of his wisdom. Caesar s pride may also rise from having a higher position to his wife as a
man because the Romans lived in a patriarchal lifestyle. Calpurnia knew this and rather than
appealing to his wisdom, she appealed to his ego and pride as a man and a someone of power.
However, with outstanding contrast, the relationship between Brutus and Portia hold a significant
difference between that of Caesar s relationship with his wife. For example, in this dialogue, one
can see the distinction between the two

Separation Of Urea And Trans-Cinnamic Acid
In the first part of the experiment trans cinnamic acid began to melt rapidly at 133 В°C and had
completely liquefied at 135.9 В°C. Urea began to melt rapidly at 133 В°C, just as the trans
cinnamic acid, but had completely liquefied at 134.7 В°C. Both urea and trans cinnamic acid had
true melting points of 132 В°C generating a .75 percent error. The 50:50 mixture of urea and trans
cinnamic acid started to melt quickly at 98.5 В°C, slowed down at 102 В°C, at which point most
of the compound had seemed to have melted with the exception of a few crystals, which did not
melt completely until 125В°C . In the second part of the experiment, the melting pointof an
unknown compound was measured at a fast rate, 10 В°C/min, in order to obtain an estimate of the
melting point of that compound, which was about 130 В°C 139 В°C. At this point the suspected
organic compound was benzoin, and the melting points of the two compounds, benzoin and the
unknown, as well as the 50:50 mixture of each, were obtained. The unknown compound, along
with the benzoin, had identical melting points of 133.7В°C 134.9В°C, while the 50:50 mixture
had a melting point of 133 В°C 134.3 В°C. The true melting point for benzoin is 132В°C,
generating a .75 percent error.

Our series reinforces the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic management for distal catheter
complications. The advantages of the laparoscopic approach include a shorter hospital stay because
of less postoperative pain. The catheter is positioned under direct vision with less bowel
manipulation, thus reducing the risk of bowel injury and the development of adhesions(3).
Laparoscopy allows us to replace the shunts in the abdominal cavity under direct visual guidance
and cut them to appropriate size if necessary.
In addition, laparoscopy is a diagnostic tool that can be used to exclude any other intra abdominal
process possibly causing abdominal pain. Laparoscopy can be repeated several times in case of
further complications because it is less invasive. This is not the case with laparotomy, which is
more traumatic (3).
The potential problem that has been raised is retrograde leakage of carbon dioxide into the
ventricle. This was not recognized in our series and has not been reported previously. A recent in
vitro study found that none of the valves tested showed any signs of leak associated with
increased gaseous back pressure below a pressure of 80 mm

Analyzing the Surprise Ending in Descartes Discourse on...
Surprise Ending in Descartes In the book Discourses on the Method and the Meditations, author
Rene Descartes famously questions the existence of humanity. His most famous quotation, the
one for whom he is most remembered is I think therefore I am (Descartes 11). According to this
idea, so long as a being has the ability to think then they existed. Animals have brains and
therefore they must exist. In order to truly, exist, to be a thinking entity, a person or organism
must utilize the ability granted to them by their mind. This is the focus of much of this text, the
nature of existence and the line between what is true and what we only imagine or perceive to be
true. For the majority of the text, the philosopher asks questions in trying to formulate his own
identity and indeed whether or not he existed as all. It would be assumed that the end of the book
would be a conclusion of this internal dialogue where Descartes definitively states his position on
human existence. However, Descartes instead devotes the end of the text to a wholly new concept:
namely he applies the question of existence to a being above humanity. At the end of the text,
instead of continuing on with these questions Descartes instead discusses the idea of God and
whether or not He exists. At the time of the Royal Society which Descartes was a member of, the
researchers and philosophers were trying to understand everything about the world, something
which actually is impossible to do. Renee Descartes

To Kill A Mockingbird Urban Legends
Urban Legends
Legend says that if someone says the name Bloody Mary three times into a mirror, that she will
magically appear in the room and scratch their face off. Of course this legend is not true, but
people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends
such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill
A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo
Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. They spread
rumors about him and say many crazy things that people would not normally believe. However,

In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban
legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are
true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an
explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be
explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo
Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a
half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that
s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly
because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and
whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of
the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard
about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by
telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). Even though people
use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that the legends are necessarily true. If
people actually searched for the truth behind these legends instead of falling back on

Conformity In The American School System
As both the standards of school work and stress levels of student s rise, the American school system
remains unaltered, unchanged, and unaffected for over a hundred years. School is an institution

student s own motivation, study habits, and will to learn, are cardinal in any schooling system, we
must also understand the issues with an institution that is fundamentally unsound from the ground

A Different Model for Making Acquisitions Successful:
* ALIGNMENT AROUND A CLEAR STRATEGIC PLAN(PRE ACQUISITION)
With a clear strategic plan in place, it is much easier to identify when an acquisition can help
accelerate a company s strategy than when there is a poor strategic fit.

All large scale change requires buy in from individuals across an organization not only the higher

Reflection On African American Studies
Personal Reflection Introduction to African American Studies was the class that I decided to take
this summer because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the cultures and lifestyles of
African Americans through out history and I want to further my knowledge beyond just learning
about what was taught to me in secondary school. I do not know much about African American
studies as I have not taken any courses on it or relating to it in the past but I hope that I can gain
a lot of information on the topic through out this intellectual experience. I also hope to gain a
better understanding of the history of Africans and African Americas and be able to dive deeper
into this topic instead of just hitting the surface as I feel as though my previous experiences with
this topic have covered. In just this first weeks lesson I have learned about the three great
principles that characterize the Black Intellectual Tradition and how these three principles are used
and perceived. During my secondary education experience some of the things that I have learned
about the African or African American experience were the slave trade and slavery of Africans
during early American and that these slaves were used for things like farming, working in mills,
and servants to the rich, all against their will and most without any pay or human rights. I also had
learned about the equality movement in American during the 19th century and the movement to
abolish slavey and how this had lead

Examples Of Homerun Of A Role Model
A Homerun of a Role Model
Have you ever had someone that you look up to? Well, most people in the world do have role
models. Whether it is a family member, a friend, or just a great person, role models are
phenomenal things for people to have. Role models can help you strive for greatness, or make
you yearn to be an overall better person. One individual that I look up to is Derek Jeter because he
lived a life full of adversity, he attacks challenges with ferocity, and he performs under intense
pressure. Many people have lived hard lives and gone on to greatness. This is definitely the case
with Derek Jeter. The first reason that Derek Jeter is my role model is because he lived a life full
of adversity. Derek s mother was white, while his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter how much pressure you put on him, he will never break down or falter. The third and
final reason why I admire Jeter is he performs well under tremendous pressure. When D.J. was
brought up from the minors, he was chosen to wear number two. This is very symbolic in the
Yankee organization. The Yankees only gave these low numbers to the players who were
supposed to be exceptional. This meant that Derek was to follow in the footsteps of Babe Ruth,
Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. These expectations made him very nervous, but
Jeter still performed extraordinarily. The other reason that D.J. is under tremendous pressure is
because he plays on the most recognized sports franchise in history. No matter what he does, he
s under a ton of scrutiny. A third reason that he s under this pressure is that not only is Derek a
player on the Yankee, but he is actually there team captain. Being the captain of the New York
Yankees is the hardest job available in sports. You don t have any room for a single mistake. This is
the last reason why D.J. is my role model. Over the course of his prolific MLB career, Derek Jeter
has silenced a lot of critics and made a lot of people realize that you don t have to be born with
talent to make something with your life. I feel honored that I am alive during the life of this great
player. Derek Jeter is my role model because he lived a life full of adversity, he attacks challenges

Wealth In The Gilded Age During The Gilded Age
During the Gilded Age some people were becoming very wealthy and everyone had an opinion on
what they should do with this wealth, also who they should help with this money, and how much
money they should give. This new wealth was not expected and along with it came opinions and
judgment of all economic classes. The opinions range from Social Darwinism, which William
Graham Sumner believed in, to Andrew Carnegie s Gospel of Wealthand to Walter Rauschenbuschs
The Social Gospel. William Graham Sumner was a firm believer in Social Darwinism. Social
Darwinism is the belief in survival of the fittest, so the strongest in society are the ones who
become wealthy. With this wealth Sumner believed that the wealthy should use it to support the
other classes to give them opportunity to become wealthy themselves. According to Sumner If
you get wealth, you will have to support the other people; if you do not get wealth, it will be the
duty of other people to support you. (Sumner) In this quote Sumner is saying that no matter who
the wealthy people are they will have to support the lower class and give them the chance to
become wealthy. Through his ideas of social darwinism he believes that everyone should be given
an equal opportunity to become wealthy and then the strongest in society will become wealthy. He
does not believe that the wealth should stay in the already wealthy families because not every
person in the family will be the strongest in society. Along with this he says We

Life In Jails
Who is someone close to you? Someone you could not imagine living life without. What would
you do if all of a sudden they were convicted of a crime they did not commit? On top of that, what
if they were put on death row for 18 years only to be later found not guilty? Well, take that
horrific image and make it into reality because for Damien Echols this was his reality. It was 1993
in West Memphis, Arkansas when three teenagers; Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie
Misskelley were all convicted of the murderand sexual mutilation of three eight year old boys.
Due to their appearance and the widespread fear of rock music having relations with satanic
worship, they were prime suspects in their small town. Now, imagine being these three innocent
men trying to start a new life in a world where they are looked at by society as criminals. These
men were only found guilty to save the state s government millions of dollars they would have to
give them for wrongfully convicting them. If you were them would you not want an accepting and
understanding environment to move into? We should be welcoming, helping guide them into their

Gracile Features
Introduction
The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often
nonexistence of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest,
mastoid process, and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the
average male. Due to this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton
should in some form be sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding
the pelvic girdle, on which most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal
requirements of childbirth. Given the above statement, it is reasonable to predict that there would
be a distinguishable difference between the metacarpal of a male and a female. Studies have
proved that metacarpals are sexually dimorphic, and can be used to identify the sex of a skeleton
in both Egyptian and Tai populations. Due to these past studies, it is logical to assume that the
same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European population. If successful this study could
develop an algorism to help determine the sex from just a single bone. This advancement in our
knowledge of sex identification could propel cases, in which the sex of the induvial was
undeterminable from the bones recovered.

Siddhartha Lessons
Lessons are best learned through experience. This holds true in Hermann Hesse s Novel
Siddhartha. On his path to enlightenment, Siddhartha experiences many different circumstances
that shape the way he becomes by the end of the novel. He encounters trials and tribulations,
such as affection, self exploration, and sadness, much like I have. Through these experiences,
both Siddhartha and I were not only guaranteed knowledge of our situations, but eternal wisdom
through our experiences. Siddhartha ignores the ways of other spiritual groups, and goes on his
own path, and I break away from mean spirited people. In part one, Siddhartha decides after
trying the way of the Samanas, that it is not for him, and Govinda follows. In this quote,
Siddhartha explains to Govinda, that although Govinda believes that the samanas will help them
attain wisdom and enlightenment, he has noticed that all of them are old and frail, even
unhappy. He has lived for sixty years and has not reached the nirvana. He ll turn seventy and
eighty, and you and me, we will grow just as old and will do our exercises, and will fast, and will
meditate. But we will not reach the nirvana, he won t and we won t. (Hesse 20). This leaves
Siddhartha to believe that although they may have pushed away their desires for human contact,
and ousted their needs for food and shelter, they have still not reached enlightenment, even as old
men. They then try to make way with the Buddha. Siddhartha is bewildered by the fact

Urbanization In Idaho
A little family of four from Idaho owns a potato farm. The nearest neighbor is half a mile away.
After struggling to maintain the land and profit from their crops, they decide to sell the farm and
move to Chicago. There they have jobs waiting and a nice house with a green lawn on a street
with twenty other houses. After a couple years, they have acquired two more cars and with a rise
in income are able to consume double the products they did in Idaho. This family is an example of
an issue that impacts the environment everyday: Urbanization. Merriam Webster defines
urbanization as the process by which towns and cities are formed and become larger as more and
more people begin living and working in central areas. Due to a rapidly growing population, the
world is becoming more urbanized, leading to harmful effects on the environment such as pollution,
changes in climate, and the destruction of biodiversity.
According to the Population Clock of the United States Census Bureau, the world population is
approximately 7,237,500,000. Of that, 321,000,000 reside in the United States, making it ... Show

Public Policy Concerning Education During Prisons
Public policy concerning education in prisons decisively emphasizes punitive programming over
rehabilitate or educational programming. In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive
public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on
the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the educationpaid for through incarceration entails a
greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would
ever go to prisonto obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a
regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no
longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against
the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces
recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater
likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence.
Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard
Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just
reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the
psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role
models to other inmates

Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay
Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it
involves particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009).
Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining
characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their
native language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily
environment. In this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in
children are, I will explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in
acquiring language, show the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these
theories account for children who are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language.
In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For
example, at 6 8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or
holophrastic stage, 18 24 months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a
telegraphic stage where they can form sentence. This is the case with most children however
some children experience some difficulties in acquiring language. If a child has not spoken by
the time they are 2years of age, it is advised that they be brought to a doctor to be assessed. The
most common reason for late or deteriorating speech is a hearing problem. If this is not the

Otto Hahn
Intro Otto Hahn was the man of the times. He was associated with the greatest minds of the
Twentieth century and founded many scientific principles of the Twenty first. His work in mid war
Germany shaped the path of not only his own, but many nations. This is the investigation pertaining
to the life and works of Otto Hahn.
Childhood and Education Otto grew up as the son of a middle class Glazier (Glass fitter) and
attended the Goethe Gymnasium where he took an interest in classics. He grew up as many
boys, collecting stamps and the like, but even at an early age he was finishing in the tops of all

Hahn not only discovered nuclear fission but also discovered many new isotopes, namely,
radiothorium (thorium 228), polonium 212, lead 210, and thorium 227. More terrifyingly for
Hahn, he concocted poison gases in World War One, some of his own creation and some merely
by following orders. In fact most shockingly, Hahn was never quite looking for nuclear fission.
He enjoyed researching and discovering new radioactive isotopes and it was because of this that
he stumbled upon nuclear fission. When Hahn discovered nuclear fission he had been working
near to it for many a year with Lisa Meitner. Meitner and Hahn worked for years in Germany
together and remained friends throughout their lives. In Germany they discovered isotopes
together by bombarding certain particles with neutrons and observing how they reacted. When
Meitner and Hahn researched nuclear fission, Hahn discovered particle induced fission. Otto did
this by conducting an experiment in which they fired neutrons at Uranium 235 and observed its
byproducts. From this experiment they discovered that Kr 92 and Ba 141 were produced along
with extremely large amounts of energy and gamma radiation. At first Otto could not believe the
results of his experiment, for it was so contrary to all he had believed. But after he had repeated it
and confirmed the results with Meitner he knew

Northern Ireland Essay
Northern Ireland has been, for as long as it has been a country, a deeply divided society. A society
rife with ethno political conflict between the Nationalist Catholics (who want a united Ireland) and
the Loyalist Protestants (who are loyal to the crown and thus wish to remain a part of the United
Kingdom). This division cumulated in what is now known as the Troubles. This conflict has
spanned over three decades, from (debatably) 1969 until the signing of the Good Friday
Agreement in 1998, and resulted in the deaths of over 3500 people and over 35,000 injuries
(Cairns Darby, 1998; Muldoon, 2004; Muldoon, Schmid, Downes, Kremer Trew, 2005). What
makes this division especially interesting is that there are no visible differences between the
Catholics and the Protestants. These two groups are, for all intents and purposes, extremely similar
with both being white, Christian, and European (Muldoon, 2004). However that is where the
similarity ends as they are, and should be viewed as, distinct ethnic and cultural groups (Muldoon,
2004). Although religiosity undoubtedly plays an integral role in the conflict it spans much deeper
than religion. This entire conflict is an accumulation of historical, national, religious and economic
factors all of which have helped maintain this conflict over the years (Muldoon, 2004).
To really get to the heart of the conflict we must go back centuries. The contempt that the ethnically
Irish (primarily Catholics) have towards Britain

Follow Filial Piety In Confucianism
In the teachings of Confucius, there are concepts ranging from jūnzǐ to zhì, but the two key
teachings that are predominant in both Analects and Menzi readings are lЗђ and xiГ o. LЗђ refers
to having certain rules to follow for proper behavior, while xiГ o refers to practicing filial piety
with in ones family, friends, and ruler. Furthermore, an example that shows lЗђ is shown in Book
Ten of the Analects, showing how proper behavior has to be altered depending on the situation that
one is in (Ivanhoe: 27). Proper behavior has to be shown at all times, but there are distinct
situations where more respectful behavior is required. Overall, having rules for proper behavior
keeps order within Confuciusfamilies, rulers and essentially the universe. Having this proper
behavior not only shows respect for others, but it also shows how knowledgeable one is (Ivanhoe:
27).
Additionally, xiГ o is shown in the Analects by the way in which Book seventeen represents it.
Analect 17.9 does not specifically talk about how to follow filial piety, but it provides an example
on how education will teach you how to follow filial piety (Ivanhoe: 44). Following filial piety in
Confucianism also keeps order in society, by assuring the people to respect their elders. This also
shows how everything is connected back to the family. Ancestors are very important with in the...

Stylisticism In The Swimmer Poem
The Liffey Swim is a painting capturing the annual Dublin river race. It cleverly depicts the

passengers passing by on the tram trying to catch a glimpse of the race, bring the viewers eyes to
the three swimmers portrayed trying to see for themselves, what everyone is paying attention too.

They both portray people during important life events and memories. The most obvious difference
is the abandonment of realism and trying to portray the scenes truthfully. In the first painting, The
Liffey Swim, Yeats evidently tries to be precise and accurate and to depict the scene truthfully.
Yeats, in his early works, adopted Sickett s use of short thick strokes of paint and his manner of
correlating colour 2. The colours he used are very neutral, mostly browns, dark blues, muddy reds,
and dull yellows, with a contrasting light blue sky which brightens the painting. His use of warm
and cold colours creates unity and variety. His use of warm earthy colours in the foreground
creates unity. However, the contrast between the warm earthy colours in the foreground and the
cool blue colours in the background create variety. The waves in the water create a sense of
motion and are slightly more curved around the swimmers showing their impact on the movement
of the water. The people depicted leaning forward also create a sense of motion and action taking

fortunate enough to have been able to work with Sara on the props and the paint portion of the
stage and set up. It was a great experience working on the props and seeing it all come together
and being able to see it all finally being used to create the vision of a producer and director. The
idea of Alicia in Wonder Tierra came from Silvia Gonzalez, she had created the characters based on
people and their way of seeing Hispanics and/or Latin Americans. The main character,... Show more

The costumes used on a few of the puppets were traditional Mexican ponchos. The Mexican
ponchos went well with the theme because it was a Mexican journey that Alicia went through
so the ponchos played a significant role. There was also Alicia, she wore regular skinny jeans
with a denim vest and a t shirt. The clothing Alicia wore was casual clothing, similar clothes to
what I wear. The clothing Alicia wore was a good representation of a Mexican American because
she did not understand the traditional Mexican wardrobe, the casual clothing she was wearing is
more of American attire. The puppet who accompanies Alicia on her journey, Ramon, was
wearing a traditional mariachi suit. The character also had a mustache and a trumpet, they were
two good characteristics because when most Mexicans think of a male mariachi, he has a thick
mustache and the instrument he plays. Some other costumes that are were significant were those
of the Elvira gang. The Elvira gang was made of a group of three girls, the tree girls wore black
clothing, wore their black hair teased enormously high and wore a lot of mascara. They each
carried around two chicken claws and used them to scare the other characters, another accessory
they carried was a few bottles of hairspray. Each of the costumes were able to represent who the
characters were. The costumes each had their own unique representation of the

The Family And Medical Leave Act
Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men
are breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years,
and while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface.
Especially, when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time
to care for a newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you
may ask? It is because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because
of this, we see men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women,
should have a paid extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create
the bonding link between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall
between man and woman. In the United States, maternity leave is considering under the Family
and Medical Leave Act. The Family and Medical Leave Act was constructed by the U.S.
Department of Labor in 1993. This act states, an eligible employee shall be entitled to a total of 12
workweeks of leave during any 12 month period for one or more of the following: (A) Because of
the birth of a son or daughter of the employee and in order to care for such son or daughter. (B)
Because of the placement of a son or daughter with the employee for adoption or foster care. (C)
In order to care for the spouse, or a son, daughter, or

The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving
Oluwaseyi Isola
Prof. Laura Baltuska
English 101 015
29 November, 2016
Under the Influence Is Under Arrest
What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together
are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while
under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t
stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property
vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a
behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads.
This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to
deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their
licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict
measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of
ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based
instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level.
To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a
large number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives
from crashes attributed to drunk driving.

Michael Jackson s Influence On Pop Culture
Albert Einstein, Robin Williams, Shakespeare, every one of the people have greatly influenced the
world today. Among the list of extremely influential people lies, Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson
was born in 1958 in Gary, Indiana. Jackson was a man of many talents, an entertainer, a
philosopher, a recording artist, and the list goes on. With his extravagant personal life, his
contribution to music and fashion, and his widely known dance moves/skills, he turned out to be
the most influential person in popular culture for over forty years. Throughout his life, Michael
Jacksonheavily influenced today s top artists, the technological realm of music videos and the TV
industry, and heavily impacted charities.
Michael Jackson first truly emerged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and most evident Jackson follower was Usher. For many years, Usher has been
depicted as the next Michael Jackson (Montgomery). Similarly to Michael Jackson s Thriller,
Usher s album, Confessions, contains an abundance of styles. Starting with an intense classic,
and ending with a deep, raw ballad. Like Jackson, Usher used his musical talent to move beyond
simple pop balladry and develop a pure, singular artistic vision (Keyes). Usher himself states, I
wouldn t be who I am today without Michael Jackson. Although Jackson s influence on pop
music artists was far more evident, one can still see his influence in hip hop artists such as,
Kanye West. Kanye portrays the superstar ambition, which is the desire to accomplish
everything bigger and better than anyone and everyone and the power to bring one unified
vision to a mass of people, that Jackson portrayed as well. Additionally, Justin Timberlake was
greatly influenced by Michael Jackson. Just like Michael, Timberlake outgrew the band he
started with and launched his solo career. Timberlake kick started his career with a music video
that was undeniably similar to Michael Jackson s video with the choreography to the costuming.
Another famous pop singer that uses Michael Jackson s methods is, Katy Perry. Jackson and
Katy Perry have been some of the only musicians to be able to oscillate between universal
anthems and personal ballads (Beaumont Thomas). Finally, considerably most influenced by
Michael Jackson is, Chris Brown. From his seemingly impossible dance skills to his Michael
Jackson inspired fedoras, Chris Brown dedicates almost his entire style for singing, dancing, and
fashion to his idol, Michael Jackson. Brown himself states, Michael Jackson is the reason why I do
music and why I am an entertainer. Although Michael Jackson died over seven years ago, he still

Oscar Romero Assassination
Oscar Romero was born on 15 August 1917, in El Salvador. His parents could not manage to pay
for his school after the age of twelve, so he went to work as an intern carpenter. He showed grow
great effort in his work, although he was already determined to become a priest. He entered the
institution at the age of fourteen and was adapted to a priest in 1942, when he was 25.
Recognising the supremacy of radio to grasp the people, he persuaded five radio stations to
program his Sunday readings to provincial agriculturalists who thought they were unwanted in the
churches. Throughout the time Oscar was a priest, he was a great speaker and had quite a bit of
experience and learnt more about God and his goals. In 1970, he became Auxiliary Bishop in El
Salvador. After that, in 1974 he became Bishop of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a country wracked with human rights abuses, enveloped in lies and cover up and edging
every day closer to civil war, Archbishop Romero fearlessly spoke the truth. He listened to the
poor tell their stories. He took on the wealthy landowners for their exploitation of seasonal
workers. He took on the military for their torture, killings and terrorisation of the rural population.
This brought down persecution on the Church and six priests and dozens of catechists were killed
prior to his own assassination. Parallels have been drawn between Romero s three years as
archbishop and the three years of the public life of Jesus. The preaching, the teaching, the prayer
and solitude. The closeness to the poor, the tender love of the vulnerable and destitute, the courage
and resolution, the insults hurled, the pharisaic plotting against him, the doubts and the fears, the
death threats and the public execution. In 1977 there was a Gethsemane experience for Romero. As
he prayed beside the body of the murdered priest, Rutilio Grande, he realised that if he

The Character of Linda Loman in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
Linda is the heart of the Loman family in Arthur Miller s play, Death of a Salesman. She is wise,
warm, and sympathetic. She knows her husband s faults and her son s characters. For all her frank
appraisals, she loves them. She is contrasted with the promiscuous sex symbolized by the Woman
and the prostitutes. They operate in the world outside as part of the impersonal forces that corrupt.
Happy equates his promiscuity with women to taking manufacturer s bribes, and Willy s Boston
woman can put him right through to the buyers. Linda Loman holds the family together she keeps
the accounts, encourages her husband, tries to protect him from heartbreak. She ... Show more

They are thus in an objective rather than subjective category. In any case what feel is always
more real to us than what we know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know, and
we feel the family relationship while we only know the social one. (Arthur Miller, The Family in
Modern Drama )
If Willy is not totally unsympathetic (and he is not), much of the goodness in him is
demonstrated in his devotion to his wife, according to his lights. Though he is often masterful
and curt, he is still deeply concerned about her: I was fired, and I m looking for a little good news
to tell your mother, because the woman has waited and the woman has suffered. Biff is attached to
his mother, and Happy s hopelessness is most graphic in his failure to be honest with, or concerned
about, his family. The family s devotion to one another, even though misguided, represents a
recognizable American ideal.
Linda, for all her warmth and goodness, goes along with her husband and sons in the best
success manual tradition. She tries to protect them from the forces outside and fails. The
memory of her suffering and her fidelity does not keep Willy and Happy from sex or Biff from
wandering. Miller s irony goes still deeper. While Linda is a mirror of goodness and the source of
the family s sense of identity, she is not protection

Account for the growth of TNCs and evaluate their impacts...
Account for the growth of TNCs and evaluate their impacts at the global and national scales (40
marks) A TNC (transnational corporation) is a company that operates in no less than two
countries and has a global outlook. TNCs have a long history going back to the 16th Century in
terms of trade such as spices, but it s not until C. 1945 that companies started to form
acquisitions and mergers. The one key reason why these businesses have been so successful in
their area of expertise globally is because they can take advantage of spatial differences in the
factors of production worldwide. They are able to exploit differences in the availability of capital,
labour costs and land cost, which we as a world have seen, especially in far east... Show more

Growth of TNCs is down to geographical flexibility and being able to shift resources and
production between locations on a global scale in order to maximise profit margins. For
example, Coca Cola Hellenic is leaving Greece; this is so that they don t lose any more money
than they already have done. Athens stock exchange is a lot smaller than it used to be, which
has meant the general economic sickness in the country depresses prices of all companies there.
So, the company is to move its domicile from Greece to Switzerland and the stock listing from
Athens to London. This example perfectly summarises how and why TNCs pack up in certain
countries and go on to the next to make profit, which is what all multinational companies are out
to do, make a buck. The growth in TNCs is also the idea of shifting to a more flexible production
system, like JIT production, which stands for Just In Time. This type of production is exactly
what it says on the tin, an order is placed with the company and only then do they start making the
product, this saves time, space and money, as products are not left in warehouses until an order is
placed. This allows for products to be made quickly and efficiently. In addition, TNCs can take
advantage of the advances in technology; communication and transport meaning the process can be
dealt with more quickly, easily and cheaply. Plus, many TNCs have adapted their production
process and have broken in down, this

Firstly, they Romans introduced the numerical system that is currently used in the modern societies
as well as the calendar system (Hunt et al 189). Hence, the Roman civilization influenced our way
of counting days and the numbers we use to calculate things in our modern society. Another
important area that ancient civilization influenced in the western civilization is the area of
constitution making. The idea of having written laws guiding people in a society come up within
the ancient Roman empire. In the western civilization the idea of the constitution has been
embraced and many societies have written constitution, which as act as the supreme law of the
land. The concept of innocent until one is proven guilty was introduced in the ancient Roman
society. This concept was adopted in the western civilization and one is usually assumed to be
innocent until the court declare him or her otherwise. Therefore, the Roman influenced the modern
society in the area of law by introducing a concept of innocent until proven guilty by a court of

Eleanor Of Aquitaine Analysis
Before one can get into the great, yet surprisingly simple, debate over whether or not the capital
figural statue heads, on the right side of the apse, in the interior at Notre Dame Du Bourg at
Langon are in fact the sculptural depictions of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry II of England;
firstly one must have a general understanding of not only Eleanor s life but of the tradition of
Romanesque sculpture.
Starting, a brief synopsis of the life of the great Eleanor of Aquitaine: she was born during the 12th
century in 1122 and lived until she was eighty two. Eleanor was the proud daughter of a
distinguished dynasty, and she never forgot her lineage: successors to Carolingians which equalled
the Capetians and surpassed the Plantagenets in prestige. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The capital in question, is now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the Cloisters.
According to files at the Cloisters, it is impossible to date exactly when this capital and the seven
others at Langon where created, but they are estimated to have been sculpted between 1155 and
1183. The files at the Cloisters also claim, that there is no direct connection can be established
between Eleanor and Henry, and the priory of Langon. However in contrary during their nuptial
progress, they visited the Church of Notre Dame du Bourg at Langon. As the Church at Langon was
well underway but still undergoing construction, thus making the capital dedication possible, even
if Eleanor and Henry were not there at the time of the creation of the sculpture, due to the
establishment of travelling ateliers masons the likeness of the most powerful people would have
generally been known. The rise of figural sculpture in the Romanesque period occurred
simultaneously with the rise of the artist. The early 12th century in Europe, brought about the
revival of figural stone sculpture to a high level of stylistic subtlety and iconographic complexity.
This expressionist style was combined with theological motifs, nature, and the functionality of
images that came to represent a certain truth as reality. It was in this context, that the artist,
following the patrons

Research Paper On Napoleon Bonaparte
Slade Rheaume Dr. Claussen Europe and Empire 7th November 2017 Research Paper The
French Revolution began as an expression of rebellion against centuries of absolute rule in
France. After an interim of experimental liberalism under the rule of Jacobins and Girondins and
then the infamous reign of terror, the people of French were drawn to a man who promised them
a return to stability, and honor through the expansion of empire. France and it s people had long
yearned for this sens eof honour, it had seemed, and could finally sens eit in a lasting rpesence

Napoleon seemed to have been seen as a man chosen and destined by god to find victory, though
in reality he was a workaholic, and spent long nights carefully drafting his plans for battle. He was
careful to maximize his manpower where it counted most. That said, Napoleon saw a value in
remaining unpredictable, always maintaining an aggressive stance to force his opponent to respond
to his moves. He often determined that the moment was more important than manpower. Often,
after maneuvering for some time, Napoleon would order his men to charge towards the enemy s
approximate location. Sometimes he himself recalls that the approximation was weak, but it was
more important to move quickly and definitely, than to wait for complete intelligence to reveal the
true nature of the enemy s whereabouts. Napoleon did not hold many rules on his troops when on
the march, only that they move at a steady pace and stay close together so that they could get into
formation quickly. Ultimately, it is clear that Napoleon had a natural gift for choosing the right
moves, and furthermore seemed to be at his best when under the pressure of an intense battle,
while the commanders of other armies tended to mishap. Napoleon is widely considerred a
military genius, and by his very own definition this requires an above superior

  • 2. Dante s Inferno, By Dante Dante s Inferno Throughout the story Dante s Inferno, Dante takes a trip through hell to reach what he calls paradise. During Dante s journey to hell he goes through the nine circles called: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud, and treachery. With each of the circles in hell , there is a punishment that resembles each of sins committed. Based on the reactions that the pilgrims give through textual conversations between Virgil and Dante. It can be concluded that the pilgrim has acquired knowledge throughout his journey. Dante notifies the readers by saying strayed, leaving the path of truth (Dante 67), which helps the reader comprehend the purpose of his journey throughout the book. Agreeing to the text, Dante tried to climb a hill that would lead him to paradise, but could not be obtained anything because the book state s the beast was there blocking his way (Dante 68) meaning Dante. Since the beast would not allow Dante to pass, it was understood that in order to move higher, one must achieve the understanding of the process. In this case, Dante would have to go through an external place (Dante 71) to achieve getting to his paradise. Dante gives some types of hints, giving away that the pilgrims has also committed sins, but does not go in depth on what it is he has committed to actually go to hell and redeem himself so he can go to paradise or in other words heaven. This journey is just so Dante would get some type of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Octavius Augustus Ceasar s Thirst for Power Octavius Caesar was known as a cruel, power hungry leader, that had the desire and thirst, to obtain all the power he could. Octavius had such a hunger for power, he wouldn t let anything stand in his way of getting it. Octavius Caesar, otherwise known as Caesar Augustus, was the first emperor of the Roman Empire. Octavius was born in September of 63 B.C, and died sometime in august of 14 A.D. He lived to be 76 years of age, there are many conspiracies that say his wife may have poisoned him, but most people say he died of natural causes. Caesar had a lot of adoptive children, such as Gaius and Lucius Caesar, Agrippa Postumus and Tiberius. Tiberius is the successor to the throne after Caesar dies. Tiberius took the throne after Octavius died in 14 A.D. Octavius was born into a family with few connections. He was a sickly child; he was small in stature, with bad teeth and spots covering his body, with many birthmarks on his chest and belly. Octavius was the great nephew of Julius Caesar; Julius Caesar won the civil war in 46 B.C, and was named dictator of Rome Julius then said to the people I came, I saw, I conquered . Julius needed and heir to succeed him. Having no children he adopted Octavius. His name was then changed to Gaius Julius Caesar. Octavius did not learn of this until the assassination of Julius Caesar, and it wasn t until the reading of Julius will that everyone learned that Octavius was now the successor to Julius, and the power he had was going to Octavius. ... • 4. Canadian Success During The War Of 1812 Canadian Success in the War of 1812 The War of 1812 is a war that stemmed from the Napoleonic wars in Europe into North America. It is a result of conflict between America and Britain and is now something that has left a mark on both American and Canadian history. For the Americans it is something that they are ashamed of and tend not to think about too much, but for the Canadians it has much more meaning. Some historians believe that this event, this success, is what sent Canada on its way to separating from Britain and becoming its own nation. The success of Canada in this war can be attributed to the leadership abilities of men such as Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseh, the unity of Upper and Lower Canada as well as the need and want to fight on the behalf of citizens of these colonies. The good leadership, the unity of the colonies and the desire to defend themselves are the reasons for Canada s success in the defense of their homeland and the defeat of the Americans in the War of 1812. The leadership abilities of the Canadian military men are what truly inspired the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada in the battle against America. In particular Sir Isaac Brock and Tecumseh were two men who, through both their courage and battle tactics encouraged and inspired the fight in the citizens in both colonies. Sir Isaac Brock was the commander of the British forces in Canada at the time of the war and was not entirely happy with his position in Canada due to the fact that he ... Yet, the author is metaphorically used the phrase to indicate the theme of the poem true love. Importantly, we noticed minds has been chosen as the symbol for their love instead of heart or body . Introduction It is widely acknowledged that Ebenezer Howard s Garden City stimulated many significant urban design achievements in worldwide. • 9. Importance of Cross Cultural Communications Effective cross cultural communication is one of the most important issues dealt with in business, particularly when a firm operates at an international level. Communication is a process with three key elements, which includes a source, an audience, and a channel. Communication derived from businesses will have listeners that include, but are not limited to customers, employees, suppliers, and the community (Caddy et al.). These listeners contribute to the success of a firm, which is why there is so much emphasis put into creating appropriate channels of communication. This effect is further amplified when dealing at an international level, where the effect of cultureand time has more bearing. What makes effective communication important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many cultures employ a hierarchical approach to communication, but often this method of results in important issues being dodged. This problem is highlighted in an (Nakamoto 2008) article on Japanese companies. In the article it is reported that many of the Japanese companies employ a very rigid communication structure, and overseas managers were hired to create a more efficient method of communication. An open exchange or direct method of communication is much more effective as ideas can be garnered from different levels of the organisation. Overcoming various linguistic issues is another operational benefit experienced when an effective communication channel is established. Due to the legal issues of each country, language differences do not only affect face o face interaction, but written communications as well (Bovee 2008). Through proper planning and research, however, a business is able to preempt such a problem from occurring, possibly by arranging for an interpreter to translate. Failing to establish an effective means for communication when an ethical issue arises can be detrimental to the stability of a workplace. This problem is particularly pertinent, when you consider the fact that globalization has diversified workplace cultures. This can lead to what Huntington (cited in Eunson 2005) described as a clash of civilizations , due to the different perspectives on morality in the western and eastern countries. Neglecting this issue can create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay on U214 Tma01 Late Modern English, a global language spoken around the world by over 2 billion people can trace its roots to the Germanic language introduced by Anglo Saxon invaders in the 5th century. Before the arrival of the Anglo Saxons, many parts of Britain were bilingual Celtic Latin speakers, although very few traces of Celtic remain in the English language other than in place names, for example Avon and Ouse which derive from the Celtic word for water , and words found more in local dialects than mainstream English for example broc for badger. The Germanic languages of the Anglo Saxons themselves evolved as a result of centuries of Roman occupation and interaction among different tribes.[1] Furthermore the invaders did not... These words tend to demonstrate the difference in status between the language of the conquerors, and that of the conquered. The English words that remain are those of the lower classes in terms of clothing shirt rather than apparel , for food sheep compared to mutton . In more modern times the interaction of English speakers with other languages, through first colonialism, and later the emergence of English as a global language has enriched the vocabulary ( pyjama ) and led to the evolution of different versions of English around the world, for example the hybrid Singlish that has emerged in Singapore. The integration of loan words into English were also a reflection of how the language was used; French was the language of court government and law, and many words used in these contexts are borrowed from French for example accuse justice and crime. Returning to the Genesis texts, changes in the appearance of words (in particular the loss of some characters) underline that English today is very different from English 1500 years ago. The character Иќ has been replaced by y , The character ЖҐ has been replaced by the sound th in that, З’ by the sound th in thin and Г¦ is used for the short a sound in nap . Urea began to melt rapidly at 133 В°C, just as the trans cinnamic acid, but had completely liquefied at 134.7 В°C. Both urea and trans cinnamic acid had true melting points of 132 В°C generating a .75 percent error. The 50:50 mixture of urea and trans cinnamic acid started to melt quickly at 98.5 В°C, slowed down at 102 В°C, at which point most of the compound had seemed to have melted with the exception of a few crystals, which did not melt completely until 125В°C . In the second part of the experiment, the melting pointof an unknown compound was measured at a fast rate, 10 В°C/min, in order to obtain an estimate of the melting point of that compound, which was about 130 В°C 139 В°C. At this point the suspected organic compound was benzoin, and the melting points of the two compounds, benzoin and the unknown, as well as the 50:50 mixture of each, were obtained. The unknown compound, along with the benzoin, had identical melting points of 133.7В°C 134.9В°C, while the 50:50 mixture had a melting point of 133 В°C 134.3 В°C. Their ages at operation were ranged from 10 months to 17 years (table 1). All patients were investigated, diagnosed and managed laporoscopically. The median operative time of the laparoscopic procedure varied according to the diagnosis. It was 120 minutes in abdominal pseudocysts, 45 minutes in recurrent congenital inguinal hernias, 100 minutes in adhesive intestinal obstruction and 35 minutes in subcutaneous cyst. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our series reinforces the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic management for distal catheter complications. The advantages of the laparoscopic approach include a shorter hospital stay because of less postoperative pain. The catheter is positioned under direct vision with less bowel manipulation, thus reducing the risk of bowel injury and the development of adhesions(3). Laparoscopy allows us to replace the shunts in the abdominal cavity under direct visual guidance and cut them to appropriate size if necessary. In addition, laparoscopy is a diagnostic tool that can be used to exclude any other intra abdominal process possibly causing abdominal pain. Laparoscopy can be repeated several times in case of further complications because it is less invasive. This is not the case with laparotomy, which is more traumatic (3). The potential problem that has been raised is retrograde leakage of carbon dioxide into the ventricle. This was not recognized in our series and has not been reported previously. • 16. Analyzing the Surprise Ending in Descartes Discourse on... Surprise Ending in Descartes In the book Discourses on the Method and the Meditations, author Rene Descartes famously questions the existence of humanity. His most famous quotation, the one for whom he is most remembered is I think therefore I am (Descartes 11). According to this idea, so long as a being has the ability to think then they existed. Animals have brains and therefore they must exist. In order to truly, exist, to be a thinking entity, a person or organism must utilize the ability granted to them by their mind. This is the focus of much of this text, the nature of existence and the line between what is true and what we only imagine or perceive to be true. For the majority of the text, the philosopher asks questions in trying to formulate his own identity and indeed whether or not he existed as all. It would be assumed that the end of the book would be a conclusion of this internal dialogue where Descartes definitively states his position on human existence. However, Descartes instead devotes the end of the text to a wholly new concept: namely he applies the question of existence to a being above humanity. At the end of the text, instead of continuing on with these questions Descartes instead discusses the idea of God and whether or not He exists. At the time of the Royal Society which Descartes was a member of, the researchers and philosophers were trying to understand everything about the world, something which actually is impossible to do. Of course this legend is not true, but people would tell this story and through fear, make others believe that it was. Urban legends such as Bloody Mary date all the back to the 1930 s, around the same time where the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was set. In the book, the people of Maycomb, Alabama use Boo Radley, a character in the book who was sentenced to house arrest, as an urban legend. In today s society, whenever there is something that people do not understand, they create an urban legend to try and explain it, such as aliens or the Illuminati. Nobody knows if these legends are true or not but most people believe it because it gives people a sense of fulfillment to have an explanation for everything. In To Kill A Mockingbird however, everything that could not be explained was pinned on Boo Radley. The adults in Maycomb County refused to talk about Boo Radley so the children made up rumors about him. They would say that Boo was about six and a half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that s why his hands were bloodstained (Lee 13). The kids became fixated on Boo Radley, mainly because the adults never spoke about him, so they created all of these rumors about him and whenever anything crazy happened, it always was somehow connected back to him. At the end of the book when Scout meets Boo Radley in person, she finds out that none of the rumors she heard about him were actually true and eventually tells Atticus that Boo was really nice. Atticus replies by telling her that most people are, Scout, when you finally see them (Lee 376). Even though people use urban legends to explain things, that does not mean that the legends are necessarily true. While we recognize that a student s own motivation, study habits, and will to learn, are cardinal in any schooling system, we must also understand the issues with an institution that is fundamentally unsound from the ground up. Reflection On African American Studies Personal Reflection Introduction to African American Studies was the class that I decided to take this summer because I am genuinely interested in learning more about the cultures and lifestyles of African Americans through out history and I want to further my knowledge beyond just learning about what was taught to me in secondary school. I do not know much about African American studies as I have not taken any courses on it or relating to it in the past but I hope that I can gain a lot of information on the topic through out this intellectual experience. I also hope to gain a better understanding of the history of Africans and African Americas and be able to dive deeper into this topic instead of just hitting the surface as I feel as though my previous experiences with this topic have covered. In just this first weeks lesson I have learned about the three great principles that characterize the Black Intellectual Tradition and how these three principles are used and perceived. During my secondary education experience some of the things that I have learned about the African or African American experience were the slave trade and slavery of Africans during early American and that these slaves were used for things like farming, working in mills, and servants to the rich, all against their will and most without any pay or human rights. I also had learned about the equality movement in American during the 19th century and the movement to abolish slavey and how this had lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Yankees only gave these low numbers to the players who were supposed to be exceptional. This meant that Derek was to follow in the footsteps of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle. These expectations made him very nervous, but Jeter still performed extraordinarily. The other reason that D.J. is under tremendous pressure is because he plays on the most recognized sports franchise in history. No matter what he does, he s under a ton of scrutiny. The opinions range from Social Darwinism, which William Graham Sumner believed in, to Andrew Carnegie s Gospel of Wealthand to Walter Rauschenbuschs The Social Gospel. William Graham Sumner was a firm believer in Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism is the belief in survival of the fittest, so the strongest in society are the ones who become wealthy. Gracile Features Introduction The more gracile features that denote a female typically include the smaller size or often nonexistence of certain features found on the skeleton including but not limited to the nuchal crest, mastoid process, and brow ridges. Also, the average height of a female is shorter than that of the average male. Due to this difference in skeletal structure, most of the bones in the female skeleton should in some form be sexually dimorphic. The trend of smaller features is of course excluding the pelvic girdle, on which most female features are larger and rounder due to the skeletal requirements of childbirth. Given the above statement, it is reasonable to predict that there would be a distinguishable difference between the metacarpal of a male and a female. Studies have proved that metacarpals are sexually dimorphic, and can be used to identify the sex of a skeleton in both Egyptian and Tai populations. Due to these past studies, it is logical to assume that the same sexually dimorphism can be found in the European population. Through these experiences, both Siddhartha and I were not only guaranteed knowledge of our situations, but eternal wisdom through our experiences. In part one, Siddhartha decides after trying the way of the Samanas, that it is not for him, and Govinda follows. In this quote, Siddhartha explains to Govinda, that although Govinda believes that the samanas will help them attain wisdom and enlightenment, he has noticed that all of them are old and frail, even unhappy. He has lived for sixty years and has not reached the nirvana. He ll turn seventy and eighty, and you and me, we will grow just as old and will do our exercises, and will fast, and will meditate. But we will not reach the nirvana, he won t and we won t. (Hesse 20). In regards to higher education in prisons the persuasive public echo of why should criminals get for free what the rest of us pay for is a falsehood built on the backs of these rulings. I would argue that the educationpaid for through incarceration entails a greater personal cost of freedoms than a paid tuition could ever represent. I doubt anyone would ever go to prisonto obtain a free education. The ever increasing costs of higher education invoke a regime of scarcity that produces anxiety within the working and middle class. Higher education no longer represents automatic future economic security, furthering social fear. I would argue against the elimination of higher education in prisons; research shows that prison education reduces recidivism rates and improves public safety (Chappell). Education behind bars means a greater likelihood of post release employment. Post release employment means stability and independence. Stability and independence mean a lower chance of recidivism. Criminal justice researchers Richard Tewksbury and Kenneth Stengel conclude a more abstract benefit of prison education than just reducing recidivism, Participation in educational programs yields a positive influence on the psychological well being of inmates, reduces rule infractions, and enrolled inmates serve as role models to other inmates ... • 30. Language Acquisition Of Language Development Essay Language is perceived as the way humans communicate through the use of spoken words, it involves particular system and styles in which we interact with one another (Oxford 2009). Children s acquisition of language has long been considered one of the uniquely defining characteristics of human behaviour. Even today, it is widely thought that children acquire their native language from the imitation of their parents, caregivers or the people in their daily environment. In this essay I will go through what the typical stages of language acquisition in children are, I will explain and show examples of cognitive disabilities and other difficulties in acquiring language, show the theories that explore how language is acquired and see if these theories account for children who are not cognitively impaired but who still do not acquire language. In nearly all cases, children s language development follows a predictable sequence. For example, at 6 8 months babbling occurs, 9 18 months a child is at a one word stage or holophrastic stage, 18 24 months a two word stage and by 24 30 months they are at a telegraphic stage where they can form sentence. This is the case with most children however some children experience some difficulties in acquiring language. Otto did this by conducting an experiment in which they fired neutrons at Uranium 235 and observed its byproducts. From this experiment they discovered that Kr 92 and Ba 141 were produced along with extremely large amounts of energy and gamma radiation. At first Otto could not believe the results of his experiment, for it was so contrary to all he had believed. But after he had repeated it and confirmed the results with Meitner he knew ... • 35. Northern Ireland Essay Northern Ireland has been, for as long as it has been a country, a deeply divided society. A society rife with ethno political conflict between the Nationalist Catholics (who want a united Ireland) and the Loyalist Protestants (who are loyal to the crown and thus wish to remain a part of the United Kingdom). This division cumulated in what is now known as the Troubles. This conflict has spanned over three decades, from (debatably) 1969 until the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998, and resulted in the deaths of over 3500 people and over 35,000 injuries (Cairns Darby, 1998; Muldoon, 2004; Muldoon, Schmid, Downes, Kremer Trew, 2005). What makes this division especially interesting is that there are no visible differences between the Catholics and the Protestants. These two groups are, for all intents and purposes, extremely similar with both being white, Christian, and European (Muldoon, 2004). However that is where the similarity ends as they are, and should be viewed as, distinct ethnic and cultural groups (Muldoon, 2004). Although religiosity undoubtedly plays an integral role in the conflict it spans much deeper than religion. This entire conflict is an accumulation of historical, national, religious and economic factors all of which have helped maintain this conflict over the years (Muldoon, 2004). To really get to the heart of the conflict we must go back centuries. The contempt that the ethnically Irish (primarily Catholics) have towards Britain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

LЗђ refers to having certain rules to follow for proper behavior, while xiГ o refers to practicing filial piety with in ones family, friends, and ruler. Furthermore, an example that shows lЗђ is shown in Book Ten of the Analects, showing how proper behavior has to be altered depending on the situation that one is in (Ivanhoe: 27). Proper behavior has to be shown at all times, but there are distinct situations where more respectful behavior is required. Overall, having rules for proper behavior keeps order within Confuciusfamilies, rulers and essentially the universe. Having this proper behavior not only shows respect for others, but it also shows how knowledgeable one is (Ivanhoe: 27). Additionally, xiГ o is shown in the Analects by the way in which Book seventeen represents it. Analect 17.9 does not specifically talk about how to follow filial piety, but it provides an example on how education will teach you how to follow filial piety (Ivanhoe: 44). The colours he used are very neutral, mostly browns, dark blues, muddy reds, and dull yellows, with a contrasting light blue sky which brightens the painting. • 43. The Family And Medical Leave Act Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men are breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years, and while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface. Especially, when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time to care for a newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you may ask? It is because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because of this, we see men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women, should have a paid extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create the bonding link between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall between man and woman. The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving Oluwaseyi Isola Prof. Laura Baltuska English 101 015 29 November, 2016 Under the Influence Is Under Arrest What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level. To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives from crashes attributed to drunk driving. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like Jackson, Usher used his musical talent to move beyond simple pop balladry and develop a pure, singular artistic vision (Keyes). Usher himself states, I wouldn t be who I am today without Michael Jackson. Although Jackson s influence on pop music artists was far more evident, one can still see his influence in hip hop artists such as, Kanye West. Kanye portrays the superstar ambition, which is the desire to accomplish everything bigger and better than anyone and everyone and the power to bring one unified vision to a mass of people, that Jackson portrayed as well. Additionally, Justin Timberlake was greatly influenced by Michael Jackson. Just like Michael, Timberlake outgrew the band he started with and launched his solo career.
