Critical Thinking Of The Grand Budapest Hotel

Critical thinking of The Grand Budapest Hotel and American Beauty
The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the most spectacular films of the 21st century. The movie is
interesting and beautifully shot comedy directed by Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel
consists of a prologue, five parts, and an epilogue. The film features many successful actors, but
the main story revolves around an interesting narration of Zero Moustafa (played by F Murray
Abraham, but embodied in younger years by Tony Revolori), who encounters the Author (starred
by Tom Wilkinson and Jude Law). Zero reveals the secret of how he became the owner of the
Grand Budapest s Hotel. The film draws attention to such themes as crime, love, the family revolts,
prison breaks, police action, and their possible consequences, thus transferring the audience into the
world of the characters and providing the lesson about moral values for life.
Foremost, it is important to single out the energetic character of Monsieur Gustave (played by
Ralph Fiennes), a concierge of the Grand Budapest s Hotel. Monsieur Gustave has mentored the
lobby boy, an orphan Zero. Thus, the concierge became a teacher and an advisor of a young boy
with a refugee past. Gustave saved Zero from police with the help of old acquaintance. On the
other hand, the lobby boy helps Gustave in his funny flee from prison. Zero sends him small
hammers concealed inside the cakes

The Anti-Intellectual Movement
Week four s essay finds inspiration from the anti intellectual movement. The essay titled Anti
Intellectualism in American Life by Richard Hofstadter defines the anti intellectual movement. The
anti intellectual movement began in the 1950 s primarily as McCarthyism the belief that the mind
was at ruinous discount (Hofstadter 3). Additionally, Merriam Webster.com further defines the anti
intellectual movement as opposing or hostile to intellectuals or an intellectual view or approach
(Merriam Webster). The anti intellectual movement impacted social, economic, education, politics,
art genres. Today the discussion focuses on Exhibit H. in the Hofstadter s text on page fourteen .

(SAAM, SI) (qtd. in Adler Fig. 2.)
Many of the Avante Garde contemporary art were either laughed about in cartoon strips, puzzled
viewers or made them angry. The American people felt the European art often relished by wealthy
art connoisseurs was a step backward in American culture. Moreover, several Americans found the
primitive, distorted imagery threatening to American civilization and the United States progress.
Also many American s were afraid the art form itself represented an adaptation to modern society.
The Armory show had political undertones. The Armory show happened during a time politically
when woman fought for their rights In 1913, women took to the streets, too with political and
social causes. Women marched in the streets not only for the right to vote, for open marriages,
contraception, and the right to have children out of wedlock (Stamberg). The Armory show also
transpired during the industrialization movement. Thus electric trains pulled out of Grand Central
Station for the first time, and New York was bursting with immigrants. New York City during this
time was the leading example of the Fresh and the Modern society (Stamberg). The modern style
of art is contrary to America and Dondero s view. The contemporary art movement objectively sent
a powerful message of freedom. The Armory show was about new ways

Essay On How Did The Byzantine Empire And The Spread Of...
In the 10th century between the years of 1237 to 1480 B.C.E., Russia converted to the Christian
religion but did not convert to the Catholic Church practices. Russia was a member of the
Byzantine Eastern Orthodox Church. The religion of the Byzantine power was founded by
Constantine, but it ended in 1453. The major differences in the Catholic and Orthodox churches
were church governors. In the Catholic Church, the pope was in charge of Catholics, and the
patriarchs (who functioned as arch bishops) governed the Byzantines. The practice of
Caesaropapism (emperor of head of church and state...no pope) was introduced to Russiaand was a
legacy in the Byzantine Church, and Russia applied it to their government.

Betrayal In King Lear Essay
In King Lear by William Shakespeare, betrayal plays an important role throughout this story. The
foreshadow to heartbreaks and other awful leading events begin with one of the many motifs
/themes to this story, betrayal. In the beginning of the story, as Lear conducts his love test Goneril
and Regan kiss the bottoms of their father s feet in order to gain their desire power. However, when
Cordelia does not follow with her sister s praise Lear feels betrayed and embarrassed by her. He
decides to get his revenge and decides to disown Cordelia by saying Here I disclaim all my paternal
care (pg. 5). The betrayal continues to go back and forth as Lear feels Cordelia s love is not pure
or true meanwhile, Cordelia feels the exact opposite. In this specific part of the story betrayal is
being used to portray the easy access to power and success as well as losing it. Be as well
neighbored, pitied, and relieved, as thou my sometime daughter (pg.5). Cordelia lost everything
from the blink of an eye because her father turned a blind eye to Goneril and Regan s true intentions.

power to gain his father s respect, in order to steal his title. For Edmund to get his wishes granted
he betrays his brothers. In act 1 scene 3, he revealed his plan to the readers: Convincing his father

Fred Perry s Gold Digger
Gold Digger? What that? If you were like me two days ago and never heard of this comic book
series. The Gold Digger series was created by Fred Perry in 1991 but the main story did not start
until 1999. The comic was unique at its time because Perry drew the comic in the Japanese manga
style. During the early 90 s Japanese animation was starting to make an impact into the west. But
before even then we had earlier animes that came on American Television since the 60 s and 70 s.
But the 90 s was the moment that anime had begun to become popular in American. But that was
just animation while manga was just slowly becoming into American shores against comics. Gold

Human Resource Management In The Global Civil Aviation Industry: A Survey And Analysis Of

Abstract The civil aviation is an extremely competitive, safety sensitive, high technology service
industry. People, employees and customers, not products and machines per se, must be the arena of
an organization s core competence. The implications are vast and pervasive affecting no less than

The primary focus of HRM strategy is the manner in which the HR department aligns general
activities, policies and procedures with the opportunity imperatives of the organization. Such
relevant HRM expertise constitutes nothing less than a powerful strategic opportunity.
Methodology The original purpose of the audit s companion review of the literature was to find
other empirical studies of the airline industry regarding HRM practices, from an applied
perspective, with which to compare and contrast the results of the audit presented later in this
article. None were found. This is consistent with the findings of other researchers. M. L. Thomas
(1997), author of the book, A Portfolio ManagementApproach to Strategic Airline Planning,
comments on the scarcity of research in the area of airline management. In reviewing the literature
on international aviation, it is clear that researchers tend to analyze the industry at a macro level.
Although it has gained much attention recently . . . the topic of international commercial airline
management suffers from a lack of theoretical and empirical work, and the scarcity of literature
from a microeconomic perspective. According to J. Eaton (2001), author of the book, Globalization
and Human Resource in the Airline Industry, research is particularly difficult because Airline
managers are even more secretive and defensive about academic research than

As many children of the United States of America have the pleasure of growing up as normally
as possible, starting with learning how to interact with other children, build relationships with
other people, and the ability to horse around on the playscape; however, some children do not

pain, frequent infections including disseminated infection and pneumonia and easy bleeding,

Security and The International System Essay
Some scholars have remarked that the rise of globalism and international non state actors has
ushered in an age where the traditional tools of international relations are no longer necessary.
Rather than states competing with each other with the preverbal sticks, whether it be military force,
economic sanctions, partnering with other nations to deter potential aggressors, the new Post cold
warworld will be dominated with carrots. States will engage each other in positive sum relations of
trade and cooperation. This however was only able to flourished because of the unrivaled military

However, unlike John Mearsheimer s offensive realism theory, the United States was relatively
benign. At the end of World War II, the United States was the only country with the atomic bomb,
the only major power with its industrial base intact, and capital to invest into other countries. With
exception to the Warsaw Pact, the United States saw no reason to become a threat allowing other
power to bandwagon with the United States in accordance with Stephen Walt s balance of threat
thesis. Through the containment of the Soviet Union, these institutions took root and created a
convergence of the world s nations under the United States. With the only potential rival collapsing
in 1991, the security of the United States military allowed nations to focus resources on economic
development rather than military forces. With nations cooperating with one another for economic
progression rather than competing, traditional international instruments became less important.
Military force, diplomatic pressure, and alliances are all actions for the security of a nation. With
the relatively assertive United States at the head of a uni polar international system, there was no
need for significant military expenditures, and changes in the international balance of power. This
ultimately lead to Francis Fukayma s overly optimistic call for an End of History. However,
regional rivals to United States military supremacy are arising

Avatar Essay
Myths are supernatural or religious tales with cultural and historical backgrounds, often containing
moral lessons that are valued by the culture they originated from. The movie Avatar is a modern
myth, its popularity stemming from the inspiration it draws from familiar and widespread themes
found in classical myths. Avatarreuses and refreshes these themes for current audiences. Ancient
stories such as those of Icarus, Prometheus, Gilgamesh, and Hercules, as well as contemporary
issues, represent many of the same themes that are revealed in Avatar.
Avatar is the story of Jake Sully, a paraplegic marine that is sent to the world Pandora to take the

In the ancient Greek story of Icarus, Daedalus constructs a pair of wings made out of wax and
feathers for himself and his son Icarus to escape the Labyrinth in Crete. In their attempt to
overcome their human limitations, Icarus fails to obey his father s only rule: do not fly too close to
the sun. He reaches too far and the wax on his wings melts, causing him to plummet to his death.
This is often thought to illustrate the consequences humans must face when overreaching and
trying too hard to do what they are not meant to do. Icarus s failure to listen to common sense is
synonymous with the failure of the humans to listen to Jake Sully in Avatar. The humans cause the
death of any relationship with the Na vi due to their own negligence.
Another myth of a cautionary tale concerns Prometheus, a Titan, who chose to go against the
gods by stealing the secret of fire in order to help humans build society and live as gods. Yet in
the end, the humans suffer as Pandora is sent to earth with a box filled with terrible things with
which to punish the mortals who dared to take one of the things that separated gods from
humans: fire. The world of Pandora in Avatar is like the Pandora of myth. The humans had to
figuratively and literally dig deep into the world of Pandora to uncover the good and bad, just as
Pandora had to open a box to unleash hope and evil. Jake himself metaphorically opens Pandora s
Box by accepting the offer to be the

Why I Volunteer at the Children’s Hospital Essay
Before beginning my volunteer work I faced quite a dilema. Where could I influence children, help
them develop their leadership potential, educate them about agriculture, and have fun all at the
same time?
After a single telephone call to the Children s Hospital Volunteer Services Coordinators, I learned
that volunteers were readily accepted to serve within the hospital s recreational therapy deparment.
When they asked my reason for volunteering, I explained to them that I wanted to help the children
develop their leadership potential as well as other abilities. The members of volunteer services
seemed excited.

We began our activities with spaghetti flowers, which involved the use of spaghetti and (edible)

they enjoyed making marshmallow creatures and scenes just as much as everyone else. This
acitivity was designed to make everyone aware of the strengths which they possess, and I found that
many of the residents had artistic qualitites that set them apart from the rest! We followed this
activity with some creative time using color change markers. Everyone made name tags for their
doors, and some of them, being incredibly generous, made cards for their friends who were not in
the hospital that evening.
My second and third visits took place on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening was similar to
what I had experienced before, but everyone was distracted by all of the other games and
activities which were occurring simultaneously. Therefore, I only conducted a couple of activities
such as the beginnings of our stories Oh, The Places I ll Go! It was during this visit that I was

The Human Papillomavirus Is Transmitted Through Sexual...
Abstract
The Human Papillomavirus is transmitted through sexual contact. Specifically in males, it can lead
to cancers of the anus, penis, and pharynx. The estimated probability that a sexually active person
will get a new genital HPV infection is between 29% and 39% (Hawke). The Human
Papillomavirus infects both males and females; however, the protective benefit in heterosexual
males has not yet been explored. Therefore, this study monitored the efficacy of the HPV vaccine in
heterosexual males to see how it affected both the short term and long term health of their female
partners. This study demonstrated that heterosexual males who received the vaccination and their
unvaccinated partners showed higher anti HPV antibody titer levels, decreased HPV positivity
results via PCR tests, and decreased cancer development rates than the unvaccinated men and
their unvaccinated partners. For the Pap smears, those with both groups of men were tested and it
was found that women with unvaccinated men were more likely to have abnormal Pap smears
than those who were with vaccinated men. The initial goal of developing the HPV vaccination in
2006 was to protect women against cervical cancer (Edgar). As the years progressed, males were
encouraged to receive the vaccination, and the results of our study reveal the dual role of
vaccinating men in protecting against certain types of anal and penile cancer, as well as serving as
increased protection to their partners.

Sound Connections Chapter Summary
Chapter 3 TONAL AND RHYTHM SYLLABLE SYSTEMS
Amber Hall

Dr. Palmer
RT 2
The third chapter of Don P. Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching
pitch and rhythm. The chapter discusses the benefits and disadvantages of the many systems, such
as, Ester starts by introducing his idea of the criteria for selecting effective syllable systems. One of
his many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music,
allowing the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being
The syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last
being, The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. Ester also outlines specific
guidelines for tonal and rhythmic systems that vary from each other. The most successful systems
chosen by Ester meet these criteria points, and are outlined as to why they are the most successful.

As Ester explains both of these methods, he is quick to point out the flaws and show why they
are no longer used today. The first method does not cover the primary focus of reinforcing
specific letter names, while the second method allows incorrect rhythm. There is a German
version that has single syllables, but it does not correlate with English flats or sharps. Another
flaw quickly mentioned by Ester, is the fact that a different syllable pattern has to be sung for each
tonic triad associated with the fifteen key signatures, making it nearly impossible for beginner level
students to comprehend. This clearly does not meet the criteria of being appropriate for all

Theme Of Half Past Two Poem
Theme is the significant idea of a poem. In all three poems, the themes are related to each other
in various techniques. Gabriel Okara, Louis MacNeice and Rudyard Kipling are trying to empty
their minds into their poems, there are some similarities and differences between the poems, but
they all convey childhood as a time of innocence. You ll be a man, my son! (line 32) expresses
that the use of If constantly was to advice his son. The childish fears in Prayer Before Birth are
displayed by the persona of bloodsucking bats (line 2) and club footed ghouls (line 3) and the

The tone of the poem Piano is also similar because Lawrence is frustrated that he lost his mother
and can t get her back. The mood in Hide and Seek gradually changes when the boy realizes that
he has been left alone, isolated. The poems Half past Two and Hide and Seek give the readers
the feeling of pity towards the little boys. In Half past Two we, as readers, feel sorry for the boy
who got punished for a reason that eventually the teacher forgets about, leaving him alone after

Changing America
People face change in many ways. Some embrace it, some run from it, and some don t even
notice it. Change surrounds us every moment of every day; change is constant. Change is one of
the words the words that can be used to describe America as it moved into the twentieth century;
change was everywhere as the nineteenth century gave way to the roaring twentieth. This change
however was radical as the people off this time witnessed a world which they had once known and
cherished vanish before their eyes only to be replaced by big business, corrupt politics, and horrid
working conditions. In response to all this many citizens decided that they too would make ... Show

People saw this and realized that there was a need for change, the people who saw the need for
change and went after it are known as progressives for they wanted to progress their nation by
addressing the problems that it was faced with.
Though the people of the progressive and reform era are labeled as progressives, the fact that they
share a name does not mean that all their ideals were the same as well. Progressives were divided
mainly into two camps and from those into even smaller ones. There were the progressives who
wanted to go back to the good old days, those who wanted to preserve the way of life that was
slipping through their fingers, and then there were those who wanted to address the changes by
making changes. Some progressives felt that it was necessary to preserve the way of life that was
fast disappearing in America. On the other hand some progressives felt that the government
needed to be run differently because of all of the changes in public and private sector. Either
way, change was part of the equation. The progressive era was composed of many people, each
possessing one, two, or more of the many ideals that helped define the progressive era. It can be
said however, that most progressive reformers were upper middle to upper class people for
whereas the poor certainly saw the problems and recognized the need to solve them, there were not
in a position where they could. Those who made up the progressive front were educated

Cryptography Essay
Abstract With the expansion in the field of computers and highly technically advanced
communication mediums like internet there is a necessity to secure the transmission of data. The
information that is transmitted over the internet is a highly sensitive and critical information which
needs to be protected from adversaries, hackers, and eavesdroppers etc. who bypass the existing
security and perform dangerous actions. Cryptographyis the art and science of keeping the data
transfer secure from adversaries, hackers and eavesdroppers. Cryptography and its algorithm forms
one of the essential components to the security mechanisms in order to safeguard the data
transmissions and data storage. Without the use of cryptography the emails and information can be
intercepted without any authorized access.
After researching academic papers related to cryptography I understand the basic working of
DES algorithm and the cracking of the DES algorithm by brute force technology. I would like to
explore the cryptographic algorithms, the flaws associated with the algorithm. In this paper, I will
discuss about the DES algorithm and deficiency with the DES algorithm. I will discuss the
existing problem with double DES algorithm and the basics about the Triple DES and the problem
with respect to the Triple DES. A brief overview of AES has been provided.

In the other hand, we notice that there is a non linear distribution between Sales Advertising
(Appendix 1 Figure 3) which would lead us to build our regression model using the squared value
of advertising as well as delayed advertising..
Correlation
Before going forward and do additional analysis, we might consider looking at the multi
colinearity issues if any. In fact, the multi collinearity problem does not result in biased
coefficient estimates, but does increase the standard error of the estimates and thus reduces their
reliability. According to (Appendix 2 Correlation), we notice a low correlation between
explanatory variables: So there is no multi collinearity issue. We keep all the presented
independent variables and we carry out the regression so as to be able to go further in the analysis.
Regression is very likely to be reliable after this correlation analysis.
Regression
We might now consider doing some regression analysis. In fact, the main objective of regression
analysis is to explain variability of the dependent variable by means of one or more of independent
or control variables. Regression 1 SUMMARY OUTPUT Regression Statistics Multiple R 0.95 R

Evaluation Of Nash Arbitration With The Golden Section...
Example 1. Nash arbitration with the golden section search method
Assume we have the following partial conflict game between two players:
Player IIStrategiesC1C2
Player IR1(2, 6)(5,4)R2(10,5)(4,8)
Assume in this example we have already found the Nash equilibrium, (4.666, 5.6). We plot the
points and obtain the convex polygon shown in figure 3.
Figure 3. Payoff polygon and Pareto optimal line segment
We find the Nash equilibrium is not Pareto optimal. To be Pareto optimal, the Nash equilibrium
must line on the Pareto optimal line segment. For sake of illustration, we assume we have tried all
other strategic moves methods to improve our outcomes and we move on to arbitration.
Finding the security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finding the Pareto optimal line segment equation
We use the end points (4, 8) and (10, 5) to obtain the equation of the Pareto Optimal line shown in
figure 3 using the point slope formula of a line: .
We find the equation as (y 8) = 3/6 (x 4) which simplifies to y= 1/2 x +10.
Nash arbitration
Now, we can return to the Nash arbitration scheme that says in particular find the values of (x, y)
along the line y= 1/2 x + 10 where x 4.6666, y 5.6 that maximizes the product (x 4.6666) (y 5.6).
To use golden section in one dimension, we simply create a function of one variable by
substituting 1/2 x + 10 for y in the function to be maximized, (x 4.6666) ( 1/2 x + 10 5.6) or (x
4.6666) ( 1/2 x + 4.4). We can simplify this through multiplication, if desired, to obtain 1/2 x2 +
6.73333 x 20.53333. The next crucial element is to determine the interval. The value of x must be
greater than 4.6666 and less than the x coordinate of right most end of point of the Pareto optimal
line, which in this case is 10.
Therefore, we will use golden section to find the value of x that maximizes the function, 1/2 x2 +
6.73333 x 20.53333, within the interval [4.6666, 10].
We have built a template, available upon request, to perform the calculations. We find the value of
x that maximizes this function within the interval to be x= 6.733241. So how do we find the y
coordinate? We substitute x= 6.733241 into the equation y = 1/2 x + 10 and find y =6.63338. Our

Spellbinding Metaphors In Plato s Phaedo

Intro to Philosophical Thkg 8:00
30 September, 2017
Test 1
One of the most spellbinding metaphors in Plato s Phaedo that shows the struggle between the
body and the soul is a description of the body as a prison for the soul, so the soul is a prisoner that
stuck within the material body. (Plato Phaedo 82e) The Imprisoned soul associates with the body,
because of its incomprehension to get out from the prison. Therefore, the materiality intrudes
more and more to contaminate the soul within the body. In which Plato s divided line steps play
the role of gradually freeing the soul from its own imprison. Despite Plato s complex theory, It s
philosophy that can lead the human to extract much to tell about how the humans can look at the
world from wiser angles than from those of the body. Plato builds his fundamental idea about this
theory that what humans see or what they used to see may not be the reality or truth but mere
deceptive shadows of truth, and therefore the senses for him are deceiving and unreliable. The
soul is immortal, and the body is the mortal part, in which both exist in the living human.
According to Plato, when the soul dissociates from the body, the soul leaves the world of
becoming and enter the world of being. However, the soul has separate ability away from the body,
and this independent existence reflects the most purity state away from the body. (Plato Phaedo
114d)

Mid Tribulation Argument
Mid tribulation believers hold a belief that the church will still be on Earth the first three and one
half years of the tribulation. They believe that the first half of the tribulation they will go through,
as well as the second half (the worst half), will send them to heaven to join God s army. One main
supporting idea for the mid tribulation argument is the thought of separating the lambs and the
goats. Mid tribulationists believe that true Christians and believers in Christ and of God will go
through the first half of the tribulation, hold onto their faith, and persevere onto God. The lamb is
referring to the body of Christ, while the goat is referring to the Devil and those who do not
believe in God. Tribulation is split into two

After reviewing the existing hardware and software being utilized, I have concluded that Riordan

able to meet it s current goals and expectation. To be able to do this, Riordan Manufacturing must
upgrade outdated equipment, upgrade unsupported operating systems and applications, and
consolidate databases and increase productivity. Some of the hardware that exists at Albany and
Pontiac sites needs upgrades to increase the productivity of the plants. The Albany site can change
its structure to mirror the Headquarter with a 100 base T Ethernet with switches and reduce the
amount of hardware and connections. The Pontiac site needs to upgrade to CAT 5 cabling to
reduce data transmission degradation. Next, replace the hubs, patch panels with switches, and run a

the data transmission speed to headquarters. Software at both the Albany and Pontiac sites need to
be upgraded due to compatibility issues with other sites and the fact that the software is no longer
supported by the vendor. Both sites use WIN NT for the operating systems for their network and

Essay On The Destructors
The Destructors is a short story written by Graham Greene that takes place in 1954. This story
is set in England after World War II, and focuses on a group of boys known as the Wormsley
Common gang. They are a group of lower class boys who spend their days pulling off petty
crimes. It is when a newcomer, Trevor, arrives that their most elaborate plan forms. Trevor, who

Jap A Very Long, Intense, And Confusing History
Japan has a very long, intense, and confusing history. Every time a new emperor took to power,
the capital would move to a different city. For example, in the year 710, Nara was the first
permanent capital, but in 784 the capital moved to Nagaoka (jnto.jp). When Tokugawa was
appointed shogun, the government was established in Edo, which is modern day Tokyo. As to
keep the long, convoluted history at bay, I m not going to cover all of it but rather start at the
beginning of the 20th century. In the year 1904, Japan and Russia had been fighting over
Manchuria, the area around Korea, for quite some time. Japan had declared war on Russia, but
before the declaration had been received in Moscow, the Japanese attacked Russian troops that
were stationed at Port Arthur. During the next year, there were many battles in Korea and the
Sea of Japan, and, although both sides experienced high casualties, Japan was able to remain
victorious. In 1905, representatives from both countries met in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for
a peace agreement that was mediated. The treaty was finally decided upon to give Japan Korea
and most of Southern Manchuria. This victory for Japan was really important as it had finally
made them an Imperial Power. Because Japan they had won, Japan became the first Asian power
to defeat a European power (www.brittanica.com). Only 9 years later, Japan had decided to enter
World War 1. In 1914, Japan declared war against Germany. They demanded the removal of troops

Influence of Greece on western civilization
Throughout history, there has been many to hold the title of the greatest and most influential
western civilization. It is believed that Greece more specifically Ancient Greece is the first truly
western civilization and has had a part in the following fields of education. Philosophy being what
many would argue to be the second biggest contribution of Greece. With the first thought coming to
my mind being Aristotle, Socrates, and Archimedes. These philosophers not only contributed to the
field of philosophy; but to science, mathematics, literature, and poetry.
Democracy being possibly the most important influence on all societies. The democracy spoken of
is commonly credited to the fundamental of Athenians Greece by the philosopher Aristotle in 350

history affords. (Paine)

Strasberg Method Acting
Are you wondering what method acting is all about? Below are the basics of this acting method
developed by Lee Strasberg and practiced at the Actors Studio by actors like Marlon Brando and
Geraldine Page.
1) Relaxation
An important goal of this acting method is to get rid of the muscular tensions that keeps the actor s
instrument from being free. Lee Strasberg believed that actors who can relax their muscles reach a
higher state of concentration and responsiveness.
2) Sense Memory and Concentration
The actor develops concentration through sense memory exercises. As the name suggests, sense
memory is the use of the actor s senses to recall objects and experiences. A beginning method

Eventually, an advanced actor will combine several sense memory exercises at once. Not only do
sense memory exercises help method actors believe in the given circumstances of the scene they re
working on, but they give them great focus and concentration.
3) Emotional Memory
Method actors learn to use sense memory to recall emotional experiences from their past. Instead
of trying to remember or force an emotion, the actor tries to re create with his senses the
circumstances surrounding the experience. For example, he would use sense memory to re create
where he was at the time, what he smelled, the sounds he heard, etc. With practice, an accomplished
method actor can trigger the right emotion for his character within seconds by simply recalling a
single smell or sound.

Textual Analysis Maestro
The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in
the Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes
emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly
tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie
represents Paul s first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his
maturation. When teaching her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had
previously dismissed as juvenile and worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever
phrases I had learned from Keller. This demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music, a
transition from arrogance to maturity.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day my eyes
seemed to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town of lush gardens,
scents, and sexuality seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery is used to evoke a vibrant
image of the scene. Sexuality is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing
him. Paul relates these new emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual,
aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about
lovemaking. Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this,
Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff,
as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance,
music plays a key role in Paul s emotional

Critically Evaluate How the Situational Model of...
Introduction
Saddam Hussein was the President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003 and during his time in office was
responsible for a tumultuous period in Iraqi history. For the purposes of analysis of his leadership
style with respect to a Situational model, three areas of his career will be looked at separately; his
rise to presidency from Vice President, during the Iran IraqWar and post invasion of Kuwait.
Situational model of leadership
A widely recognised situational model is the model developed by Hersey and Blanchard (1969)
and the revised model by Blanchard et al. (1985) (Northhouse, 2007). The theory in outline states
that one s leadership style should be dictated by the type of situation and the demands of the
situation at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This leadership style needs to be used sparingly since workers can often burn out due to the
demanding pace of the style.
Democratic Leaders: The Democratic Leadership Style gives members of the work group a vote
or a say in nearly every decision the team makes. When used effectively, the democratic leader
builds flexibility and responsibility and can help identify new ways to do things with fresh ideas.
Care should be taken due to the level of personal involvement required by this style and the
decision making process itself can be very time consuming.
Affiliative Leaders: The Affiliative Leadership Style is most effective in situations where morale is
low or teambuilding is needed. This leader is easily recognized by their theme of employee first.
Employees can expect much praise from this style; unfortunately, poor performance may also go
without reprimand.
#8195;
Authoritative Leaders: If your business seems to be drifting aimlessly, the Authoritative
Leadership Style can be very effective in this type of situation. The authoritative leader is an
expert in dealing with the problems and challenges at hand and can clearly identify goals that will
lead to success. This leader also allows the employees themselves to figure out the best way to
achieve those goals.
Coercive Leaders: The Coercive Leadership Style should be used with caution because it is based
on the concept of command and

The fantasy film adaption of Lewis Carroll s original novel Alice s Adventures in Wonderland
was directed by Tim Burton and produced in 2010. The visually engaging version of Alice s
quirky adventures is comprised of many vivid mise en scene effects in the dynamic scene where
Alice slays the Jabberwocky. These vast arrays of elements include colour, lighting, set design,

The Person Who Taught Me How To Read
I ve been reading as long as I can remember. The person who taught me how to read was my
mother, I remember her making sure I knew how to read and write my name before I started
preschool. After that point, I would read anything I could get my hands on that was my level. I
also wrote, but not as much as I read. Magazines, the backs of cereal boxes, even the little books
my mom would buy me. I remember my mom telling me stop writingin your books, you ll ruin
them, after that, I made sure to keep a pencil and paper with me in case I felt like I wanted to write.
In addition to reading and writing in my books, I would sit with my sister after she had checked
out her books from the library at the school she attended. I d wait until she finished, and then get
her books and read as much as I could. The books she had checked that I had been really fond of
would have to be the Clifford the Big Red Dog and Junie B Jones series. She didn t really like to
read so she would get small books and let me read them. After I had read her books, I would read
other things around the house,I also liked to read the Sunday comics. It was around that time I
discovered how much I liked to read. I read so much that by the time I had reached second or third
grade, I didn t have a reading level. I would just go into the library and get any book I wanted.
Although I loved small books, I would try to check out the largest books I could find because they
had the most AR points. I would try to pick

MILLERSBURG To pay for some necessary improvements at the jail and increasing inmate
medical costs, Holmes County Sheriff Timothy W. Zimmerly and the Holmes County
commissioners have agreed to do some cost sharing and shifting of revenues from housing out of
county inmates. Zimmerly, joined by Chief Deputy Richard Haun, presented to the
commissioners two estimates one to replace an exterior door and another to replace handles for
interior doors all designed to improve security at the facility. The cost of replace the exterior door,
between the jail s interior and the sally port, has been quoted at $6,684, to include materials and

The new handles present less of a security risk because they do not stick out in a way they could
be tied shut with jail towels or sheets, said Zimmerly. In response to Zimmerly s request for
funding for the project, the commissioners agreed to pay half the cost, with the other half coming
from appropriations already made to the sheriff s budget. Zimmerly said he is thankful for the help,
especially since he is in the midst of a $60,000 upgrade to the office s phone system, which in not
only outdated, but lacks full compatibility with the Nexgen dispatch system. Additionally, he said,
he continues to search within his budget for additional funding to purchase ballistic helmets and
vests for the department s recently revived Special Response Team. In August, the Holmes County
commissioners, at the request of Zimmerly, agreed to give an additional $30,000 to the department
to purchase rifles and uniforms to mobilize the 13 member

Designing A 3d Printing Business
Company Selection
The business that I choose to discuss is a 3D printing business which offers services to the medical
sector, looking at the background information I would be discussing the History of 3D Printing,
Medical Printing history ,
Introduction of 3D printing industry
3D printing, started in the late 80s by a company called Rapid Prototyping Technologies, although
there was a delay in the patent application of the original conceiver Dr. Kodama. However the roots
of 3D printing can be traced back to 1986 when the first patent was issued to Charles Hull who
invented his machine in 1983, and he called it stereolithography and he later went on to co found
3D system Corporation, which created the first 3D printer. Many other companies have since then
developed 3D printers for commercial applications.
3D printing or Additive Manufacturing is a process that takes digital input in the form of
Computer Aided Design (CAD) model and creates solid, three dimensional parts through an
additive, layer by layer process. It can also be defined as a manufacturing process by which objects
are created by fusing or depositing materials such as plastic, metal, living cells in layers to create a
3D item.
3D printers work like the inkjet printers but does not use ink, rather 3D printers deposit Materials
in layers to create a physical object from a digital file.
3D printers are been used in the following industries, Automotive, Aviation, Manufacturing,
Medical, and Jewelry. In

Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman
During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the
problems of the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success,
from praise and awe to disgust and rejection.
In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depressionand its high
unemployment rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of
photographs by Dorothea Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it
captured their situation, as well as their beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as
dignified human beings whose plight would elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured
the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not an embarrassing one, simply by photographing
people on the streets they were living on, filming them in their element. People were in pain and
just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and positioning, Lange s art became
a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its portrayal of regular
people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is how they
reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose
imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical
representations of Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. While beloved for the realism of her

Colonialism And Imperialism
The country s history begins when the Maya Empire first colonized the area and flourished until
about AD 800. (culturegrams.com) One of their greatest accomplishments in Honduras was the city
of Copan, a city that was abandoned by the Maya people, and eventually became a colonist magnet
for the area when imperialism in Spain took off. Honduras was first inhabited by Spaniards after
Christopher Columbuslanded on the Northern Coast of Honduras under the control of the Spanish
King and Queen in 1592. Explorers such as Henry Cortez and CristГіbal de Olid explored the
country and formed colonies. (nationsonline.com) Around this time imperialism already began to
affect the native people already there. The formation of colonies caused conflicts as the
nationalistic and racist ideas the Europeans had were harmful and inconsiderate of the native
peoples ways. An example of this was the battle at Comayagua between the Lenca Indians and the
Spanish settlers. This battle was fought by the Lenca Indians in an attempt to stop further
expansion of the Spanish ways and exploitation of their native culture. The arrival of the Spaniards
and their colonization set the scene for a slippery slope of imperialism s negative effects that were
to come. Fast forward to 1821, when Central America gained their independence from Spain. When
they were granted independence Spain was in shambles to due to France successfully taking over in
1813. (history.com) Since Spain was taken over and controlled by another country and one that had
turned on them after being an ally they were not too concerned with their colonies overseas due to
the Napoleonic Wars. The colonies didn t benefit France and their battles in Europe so they were
granted their independence without a fight. The brush off of these potentially new countries, did
not set them up for a successful future. It left them without much guidance and caused power
struggles throughout the area, all due to the cut off of the previous imperialistic ways. With no
larger country to help them with their creation of a new country, Honduras went through a couple
more name changes and political power discrepancies.
Just after these Central American countries were granted independence, what is

Critical Thinking Of The Grand Budapest Hotel Doug Weinriech Professor Tumminello The Art of Theatrical Cinema March 12, 2016 Critical thinking of The Grand Budapest Hotel and American Beauty The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of the most spectacular films of the 21st century. The movie is interesting and beautifully shot comedy directed by Wes Anderson. The Grand Budapest Hotel consists of a prologue, five parts, and an epilogue. The film features many successful actors, but the main story revolves around an interesting narration of Zero Moustafa (played by F Murray Abraham, but embodied in younger years by Tony Revolori), who encounters the Author (starred by Tom Wilkinson and Jude Law). Zero reveals the secret of how he became the owner of the Grand Budapest s Hotel. The film draws attention to such themes as crime, love, the family revolts, prison breaks, police action, and their possible consequences, thus transferring the audience into the world of the characters and providing the lesson about moral values for life. Foremost, it is important to single out the energetic character of Monsieur Gustave (played by Ralph Fiennes), a concierge of the Grand Budapest s Hotel. Monsieur Gustave has mentored the lobby boy, an orphan Zero. Thus, the concierge became a teacher and an advisor of a young boy with a refugee past. Gustave saved Zero from police with the help of old acquaintance. On the other hand, the lobby boy helps Gustave in his funny flee from prison. Zero sends him small hammers concealed inside the cakes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The essay titled Anti Intellectualism in American Life by Richard Hofstadter defines the anti intellectual movement. The anti intellectual movement began in the 1950 s primarily as McCarthyism the belief that the mind was at ruinous discount (Hofstadter 3). Additionally, Merriam Webster.com further defines the anti intellectual movement as opposing or hostile to intellectuals or an intellectual view or approach (Merriam Webster). Many of the Avante Garde contemporary art were either laughed about in cartoon strips, puzzled viewers or made them angry. The American people felt the European art often relished by wealthy art connoisseurs was a step backward in American culture. Moreover, several Americans found the primitive, distorted imagery threatening to American civilization and the United States progress. Also many American s were afraid the art form itself represented an adaptation to modern society. The Armory show had political undertones. The Armory show happened during a time politically when woman fought for their rights In 1913, women took to the streets, too with political and social causes. Women marched in the streets not only for the right to vote, for open marriages, contraception, and the right to have children out of wedlock (Stamberg). The Armory show also transpired during the industrialization movement. Thus electric trains pulled out of Grand Central Station for the first time, and New York was bursting with immigrants. New York City during this time was the leading example of the Fresh and the Modern society (Stamberg). The modern style of art is contrary to America and Dondero s view. The contemporary art movement objectively sent a powerful message of freedom. The Armory show was about new ways ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The primary focus of HRM strategy is the manner in which the HR department aligns general activities, policies and procedures with the opportunity imperatives of the organization. Methodology The original purpose of the audit s companion review of the literature was to find other empirical studies of the airline industry regarding HRM practices, from an applied perspective, with which to compare and contrast the results of the audit presented later in this article. None were found. This is consistent with the findings of other researchers. M. L. Thomas (1997), author of the book, A Portfolio ManagementApproach to Strategic Airline Planning, comments on the scarcity of research in the area of airline management. In reviewing the literature on international aviation, it is clear that researchers tend to analyze the industry at a macro level. Although it has gained much attention recently . . . the topic of international commercial airline management suffers from a lack of theoretical and empirical work, and the scarcity of literature from a microeconomic perspective. According to J. However, unlike John Mearsheimer s offensive realism theory, the United States was relatively benign. At the end of World War II, the United States was the only country with the atomic bomb, the only major power with its industrial base intact, and capital to invest into other countries. With exception to the Warsaw Pact, the United States saw no reason to become a threat allowing other power to bandwagon with the United States in accordance with Stephen Walt s balance of threat thesis. Through the containment of the Soviet Union, these institutions took root and created a convergence of the world s nations under the United States. With the only potential rival collapsing in 1991, the security of the United States military allowed nations to focus resources on economic development rather than military forces. With nations cooperating with one another for economic progression rather than competing, traditional international instruments became less important. Military force, diplomatic pressure, and alliances are all actions for the security of a nation. With the relatively assertive United States at the head of a uni polar international system, there was no need for significant military expenditures, and changes in the international balance of power. This ultimately lead to Francis Fukayma s overly optimistic call for an End of History. However, regional rivals to United States military supremacy are arising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie Avatar is a modern myth, its popularity stemming from the inspiration it draws from familiar and widespread themes found in classical myths. Ancient stories such as those of Icarus, Prometheus, Gilgamesh, and Hercules, as well as contemporary issues, represent many of the same themes that are revealed in Avatar. In their attempt to overcome their human limitations, Icarus fails to obey his father s only rule: do not fly too close to the sun. He reaches too far and the wax on his wings melts, causing him to plummet to his death. This is often thought to illustrate the consequences humans must face when overreaching and trying too hard to do what they are not meant to do. Icarus s failure to listen to common sense is synonymous with the failure of the humans to listen to Jake Sully in Avatar. The humans cause the death of any relationship with the Na vi due to their own negligence. Another myth of a cautionary tale concerns Prometheus, a Titan, who chose to go against the gods by stealing the secret of fire in order to help humans build society and live as gods. Yet in the end, the humans suffer as Pandora is sent to earth with a box filled with terrible things with which to punish the mortals who dared to take one of the things that separated gods from humans: fire. The world of Pandora in Avatar is like the Pandora of myth. Although the teenage boys weren t too receptive to the flower idea, I found that they enjoyed making marshmallow creatures and scenes just as much as everyone else. This acitivity was designed to make everyone aware of the strengths which they possess, and I found that many of the residents had artistic qualitites that set them apart from the rest! We followed this activity with some creative time using color change markers. Everyone made name tags for their doors, and some of them, being incredibly generous, made cards for their friends who were not in the hospital that evening. My second and third visits took place on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening was similar to what I had experienced before, but everyone was distracted by all of the other games and activities which were occurring simultaneously. Therefore, I only conducted a couple of activities such as the beginnings of our stories Oh, The Places I ll Go! It was during this visit that I was also able to introduce some of the children to my baby goats and to some dairy cows through pictures. • 17. The Human Papillomavirus Is Transmitted Through Sexual... Abstract The Human Papillomavirus is transmitted through sexual contact. Specifically in males, it can lead to cancers of the anus, penis, and pharynx. The estimated probability that a sexually active person will get a new genital HPV infection is between 29% and 39% (Hawke). The Human Papillomavirus infects both males and females; however, the protective benefit in heterosexual males has not yet been explored. Therefore, this study monitored the efficacy of the HPV vaccine in heterosexual males to see how it affected both the short term and long term health of their female partners. This study demonstrated that heterosexual males who received the vaccination and their unvaccinated partners showed higher anti HPV antibody titer levels, decreased HPV positivity results via PCR tests, and decreased cancer development rates than the unvaccinated men and their unvaccinated partners. For the Pap smears, those with both groups of men were tested and it was found that women with unvaccinated men were more likely to have abnormal Pap smears than those who were with vaccinated men. The initial goal of developing the HPV vaccination in 2006 was to protect women against cervical cancer (Edgar). As the years progressed, males were encouraged to receive the vaccination, and the results of our study reveal the dual role of vaccinating men in protecting against certain types of anal and penile cancer, as well as serving as increased protection to their partners. Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching pitch and rhythm. The chapter discusses the benefits and disadvantages of the many systems, such as, Ester starts by introducing his idea of the criteria for selecting effective syllable systems. One of his many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music, allowing the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being The syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last being, The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. Ester also outlines specific guidelines for tonal and rhythmic systems that vary from each other. The most successful systems chosen by Ester meet these criteria points, and are outlined as to why they are the most successful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Ester explains both of these methods, he is quick to point out the flaws and show why they are no longer used today. The first method does not cover the primary focus of reinforcing specific letter names, while the second method allows incorrect rhythm. There is a German version that has single syllables, but it does not correlate with English flats or sharps. Another flaw quickly mentioned by Ester, is the fact that a different syllable pattern has to be sung for each tonic triad associated with the fifteen key signatures, making it nearly impossible for beginner level students to comprehend. This clearly does not meet the criteria of being appropriate for all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Progressives were divided mainly into two camps and from those into even smaller ones. There were the progressives who wanted to go back to the good old days, those who wanted to preserve the way of life that was slipping through their fingers, and then there were those who wanted to address the changes by making changes. Some progressives felt that it was necessary to preserve the way of life that was fast disappearing in America. On the other hand some progressives felt that the government needed to be run differently because of all of the changes in public and private sector. Either way, change was part of the equation. The progressive era was composed of many people, each possessing one, two, or more of the many ideals that helped define the progressive era. The information that is transmitted over the internet is a highly sensitive and critical information which needs to be protected from adversaries, hackers, and eavesdroppers etc. who bypass the existing security and perform dangerous actions. Cryptographyis the art and science of keeping the data transfer secure from adversaries, hackers and eavesdroppers. Cryptography and its algorithm forms one of the essential components to the security mechanisms in order to safeguard the data transmissions and data storage. Without the use of cryptography the emails and information can be intercepted without any authorized access. After researching academic papers related to cryptography I understand the basic working of DES algorithm and the cracking of the DES algorithm by brute force technology. I would like to explore the cryptographic algorithms, the flaws associated with the algorithm. In this paper, I will discuss about the DES algorithm and deficiency with the DES algorithm. In fact, the multi collinearity problem does not result in biased coefficient estimates, but does increase the standard error of the estimates and thus reduces their reliability. According to (Appendix 2 Correlation), we notice a low correlation between explanatory variables: So there is no multi collinearity issue. We keep all the presented independent variables and we carry out the regression so as to be able to go further in the analysis. Nash arbitration with the golden section search method Assume we have the following partial conflict game between two players: Player IIStrategiesC1C2 Player IR1(2, 6)(5,4)R2(10,5)(4,8) Assume in this example we have already found the Nash equilibrium, (4.666, 5.6). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finding the Pareto optimal line segment equation We use the end points (4, 8) and (10, 5) to obtain the equation of the Pareto Optimal line shown in figure 3 using the point slope formula of a line: . We find the equation as (y 8) = 3/6 (x 4) which simplifies to y= 1/2 x +10. Nash arbitration Now, we can return to the Nash arbitration scheme that says in particular find the values of (x, y) along the line y= 1/2 x + 10 where x 4.6666, y 5.6 that maximizes the product (x 4.6666) (y 5.6). To use golden section in one dimension, we simply create a function of one variable by substituting 1/2 x + 10 for y in the function to be maximized, (x 4.6666) ( 1/2 x + 10 5.6) or (x 4.6666) ( 1/2 x + 4.4). We can simplify this through multiplication, if desired, to obtain 1/2 x2 + 6.73333 x 20.53333. The next crucial element is to determine the interval. The value of x must be greater than 4.6666 and less than the x coordinate of right most end of point of the Pareto optimal line, which in this case is 10. Therefore, we will use golden section to find the value of x that maximizes the function, 1/2 x2 + 6.73333 x 20.53333, within the interval [4.6666, 10]. We have built a template, available upon request, to perform the calculations. We find the value of x that maximizes this function within the interval to be x= 6.733241. So how do we find the y coordinate? We substitute x= 6.733241 into the equation y = 1/2 x + 10 and find y =6.63338. Our Nash arbitration

Spellbinding Metaphors In Plato s Phaedo Mafädee 1 Qusai Mafädee Intro to Philosophical Thkg 8:00 30 September, 2017 Test 1 One of the most spellbinding metaphors in Plato s Phaedo that shows the struggle between the body and the soul is a description of the body as a prison for the soul, so the soul is a prisoner that stuck within the material body. (Plato Phaedo 82e) The Imprisoned soul associates with the body, because of its incomprehension to get out from the prison. Therefore, the materiality intrudes more and more to contaminate the soul within the body. In which Plato s divided line steps play the role of gradually freeing the soul from its own imprison. Despite Plato s complex theory, It s philosophy that can lead the human to extract much to tell about how the humans can look at the world from wiser angles than from those of the body. Plato builds his fundamental idea about this theory that what humans see or what they used to see may not be the reality or truth but mere deceptive shadows of truth, and therefore the senses for him are deceiving and unreliable. The soul is immortal, and the body is the mortal part, in which both exist in the living human. According to Plato, when the soul dissociates from the body, the soul leaves the world of becoming and enter the world of being. However, the soul has separate ability away from the body, and this independent existence reflects the most purity state away from the body. When Tokugawa was appointed shogun, the government was established in Edo, which is modern day Tokyo. As to keep the long, convoluted history at bay, I m not going to cover all of it but rather start at the beginning of the 20th century. In the year 1904, Japan and Russia had been fighting over Manchuria, the area around Korea, for quite some time. Japan had declared war on Russia, but before the declaration had been received in Moscow, the Japanese attacked Russian troops that were stationed at Port Arthur. During the next year, there were many battles in Korea and the Sea of Japan, and, although both sides experienced high casualties, Japan was able to remain victorious. In 1905, representatives from both countries met in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for a peace agreement that was mediated. The treaty was finally decided upon to give Japan Korea and most of Southern Manchuria. This victory for Japan was really important as it had finally made them an Imperial Power. Influence On Western Civilization Influence of Greece on western civilization Throughout history, there has been many to hold the title of the greatest and most influential western civilization. It is believed that Greece more specifically Ancient Greece is the first truly western civilization and has had a part in the following fields of education. Philosophy being what many would argue to be the second biggest contribution of Greece. With the first thought coming to my mind being Aristotle, Socrates, and Archimedes. These philosophers not only contributed to the field of philosophy; but to science, mathematics, literature, and poetry. Democracy being possibly the most important influence on all societies. The democracy spoken of is commonly credited to the fundamental of Athenians Greece by the philosopher Aristotle in 350 B.C.E. the constitution set up an outline of governance that set term limits from life to 10 years and needing to be a citizen to serve such terms. This also sets up how to be a citizen and a way for to slaves to become a citizen. The constitution served as an outline for future democracy s constituents like that of the united states constitution. I mean the democracy of the Athenians. We see more to admire, and less to condemn, in that great, extraordinary people, than anything which history affords. In this chapter, Paul undergoes emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie represents Paul s first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his maturation. Paul relates these new emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual, aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about lovemaking. Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this, Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff, as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance, music plays a key role in Paul s emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dorothea Lange And The Migrant Woman During the first half of the 20th century, Photographs, songs, and cartoons tried to interpret the problems of the time through different kinds of imagery and tone with varying amounts of success, from praise and awe to disgust and rejection. In the early 20th century, Americans were suffering from the Great Depressionand its high unemployment rates, droughts and terrible living conditions, so when they first saw the series of photographs by Dorothea Lange, including the Migrant Mother, they were in awe of how it captured their situation, as well as their beliefs, perfectly. Not only did they represent the people as dignified human beings whose plight would elicit sympathy, not ridicule, Lange s photos captured the idea that Poverty was a distressing matter..., not an embarrassing one, simply by photographing people on the streets they were living on, filming them in their element. People were in pain and just by taking photos of this problem, with some modifications and positioning, Lange s art became a tireless and universal symbol of suffering in the face of adversity with its portrayal of regular people in dire situations. What also made the photos as popular as it was, and still is, is how they reference fundamental and historic religious symbolism, especially the Migrant Mother whose imagery of a woman tirelessly caring for her children alludes to the similar historical representations of Madonna and her child, Jesus Christ. (culturegrams.com) One of their greatest accomplishments in Honduras was the city of Copan, a city that was abandoned by the Maya people, and eventually became a colonist magnet for the area when imperialism in Spain took off. Honduras was first inhabited by Spaniards after Christopher Columbuslanded on the Northern Coast of Honduras under the control of the Spanish King and Queen in 1592. Explorers such as Henry Cortez and CristГіbal de Olid explored the country and formed colonies. (nationsonline.com) Around this time imperialism already began to affect the native people already there. The formation of colonies caused conflicts as the nationalistic and racist ideas the Europeans had were harmful and inconsiderate of the native peoples ways. An example of this was the battle at Comayagua between the Lenca Indians and the Spanish settlers. This battle was fought by the Lenca Indians in an attempt to stop further expansion of the Spanish ways and exploitation of their native culture. The arrival of the Spaniards and their colonization set the scene for a slippery slope of imperialism s negative effects that were to come. Fast forward to 1821, when Central America gained their independence from Spain. When they were granted independence Spain was in shambles to due to France successfully taking over in 1813. (history.com) Since Spain was taken over and controlled by another country and one that had turned on them after being an ally they were not too concerned with their colonies overseas due to the Napoleonic Wars. The colonies didn t benefit France and their battles in Europe so they were granted their independence without a fight. The brush off of these potentially new countries, did not set them up for a successful future. It left them without much guidance and caused power struggles throughout the area, all due to the cut off of the previous imperialistic ways. With no larger country to help them with their creation of a new country, Honduras went through a couple more name changes and political power discrepancies.
