The Effect Of The Thermal Resistance And Properties Of An...
Introduction:
The purpose of this experiment is to study the effects of how fins affect the thermal resistance
and properties of an object. The experiment conducted analysis on three cases for three different
plates which were subjected to convection from a blower. The first plate had two fins, the second
had one fin and the third had no fins. Each plate had an electrically generated heater in the base.
Each plate also started in the same initial conditions. Each plate was well insulated around the
base, was painted black and assumed to be a black body with an emissivity of 1. For each case, the
wattage of the heater was recorded initially and finally to determine the average heat generation. A
constant air flow was applied to each plate by a blower. The methods for recording data involved
using thermocouples to analyze the temperature over time. Once a steady state temperature was
observed in LabVIEW, then a thermal camera was used to obtain the infrared profiles for each plate.
The methods involved in interpreting the infrared profiles consisted of using software to determine
the temperatures at the plate, fin base and fin tip. The experiment was conducted in order to gain
insight on how fins affect thermal resistance of an object. General assumptions include steady state,
constant thermal properties, constant freestream velocity of air, identical fins, negligible surface
area from thermocouples on fins, black body, neglect conduction resistance form black paint and

Rhetorical Analysis Walden
True to Yourself Henry David Thoreau, an alumni of Harvard University, is considered one of the
greatest authors from the 1800s. Although he worked a variety of professions, writing seemed to
be the one he enjoyed best. Thoreau even isolated himself in the woods for two years and wrote
about it in Walden, which is a text reflecting on simple living. In an excerpt of Walden
called Where
I Lived, and What I Lived For Thoreau argues that every individual should follow the beat of their
own drum.
In the beginning of paragraph seven Thoreau believes we should spend one day as deliberately
as nature (280). To emphasize his point, Thoreau uses anaphora throughout paragraph seven,
repeating the word let several times. Let, a verb, means to not prevent or forbid; allow. By
repeating the verb, Thoreau puts great emphasis on the phrases following let . Thoreau wants
people to know that they are allowed to live life simply. They are allowed to wake and fast or
breakfast, they are allowed to let company come and go, they are allowed to let the bells ring and
the children cry. People should ignore what other people think, or want and focus on what they
think, or want. Thoreau wants people to elude the little things and focus on the bigger, simpler
picture for themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses rhetorical questions to highlight this. If the bell rings, why should we run with the
crowd? (280). If people went with the crowd, like birds flying south for the winter, they may
never discover what they want, just what the crowd wants. Running with the crowd, a person will
never reach their individual goals. To believe in your own thought, to believe in your goals, to
believe in yourself, that is going against the crowd. Unable to reach someone else s goals, they
need to strive for their own goals. Swimming against the stream, Thoreau isolated himself from
society, simplified his life, and discovered

Amerika Power
In Franz Kafka s Amerika, there is a clear theatre of power displayed throughout the captain s
office scene, through the use of a tableau on page eleven. Within this tableau Kafka uses the
description of each character s appearance, and actions which allows for readers to distinguish
who holds the most power, and visualize the hierarchy of power. When Karl first enters the room,
the first people readers are introduced within the tableau are the three men sitting at a round table.
The two men wearing black are described as port authority, while the sole person in blue is an
officer on the ship. By just introducing these characters first, one can conclude that these men are of
the lowest level of power within the room: seeing that they are the easiest to access. When one
walks into the room nothing stands in between these men except for a table that is piled high with
documents. The narrator states that the officer views these documents then them hands off to the

It stated that there is a window in between the bursar, and the two noblemen, which makes these
two the least accessible people within the room; similar to that of kings who are the hardest to
reach. Nonetheless, through the use of their descriptions, it becomes even more clear the power
they possess. When speaking about the clothing of the two, the captain of the ship is described
as wearing a ship uniform with a slew of medals on his chest which are all visual symbols of
authority and power. Meanwhile, the senator is the only person within the room wearing casual
clothes, and this shows that he is the pinnacle of power. Unlike everyone else, the senator does
not have to participate in the tableau of power, rather everyone is already aware of his status
which allows him to be within an elite space and not have to prove his

The Popularity Of Fast Casual Dining
A question that is asked every day is what do we want to eat? This question has many different
answers; but some answers everyone would agree with is something fast, cheap, and good
quality. This is the market that fast casual has been dominating over the years, and a market that
seems to be on the rise for the foreseeable future. Whether it is a concept created by an unknown
player in the industry, or a Michelin Star chef, the fast casual concept s rising popularity is still at
the beginning of its revolution. History shows that the concept of fast casual dining is not new.

The largest fast casual chain in the world is Panera Bread, with Chipotle trailing at a close
second place. These two brands have not only represented this growing industry, but inspired
many other concepts trying to replicate the success that they have achieved. The prosperity
achieved by Panera and Chipotle have encouraged many world famous chefs to try and create
their own concepts. In her article, DeJesus talks about how two Michelin starred chef Joshua
Skenes is partnering with Adam Flieschman of Unami Burger to introduce a fast casual Chinese
noodle concept called Fat Noodle. Here guests will be able to dine on the recipes of Joshua
Skenes for $6 10 per meal. So now we have high quality chefs who want to dive into this industry
by creating a fast fine casual restaurant. These restaurants can be characterized by their quality of
food, speed of service, as well as their price point. According to Ethan Stowell, the chef s
approach to product and the guest s experience is where the fine dining sensibility can make the
biggest impact on a fast casual restaurant. I don t think they are much different than running
higher end places, he says of the fast casual market. The goals are still the same. The goals are
have somebody come in to have a good time, try to offer them good value for what they get.

Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity,...
Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity, which by definition has to do with a
mutuality of some sort. In respect to attraction, it is the mutual interest. Human beings tend to
like those who like them and dislike those who dislike them. The perfect illustration of this effect
is the middle school drama scene. Most of us have probably heard or even said a line something
to the effect of, I don t like her/him because they talked badly of me. Inversely, when another
individual expresses an interest in you, you probably feel a sense of accomplishment or flattery
that causes you to show an interest in them as well (Sternberg, 2013). As much as we would like to
think we left this attitude in middle school, it follows us... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The types of things that those who are emotionally attracted to one another have in common
depends on what those specific people value most. While having things in common with another is
beneficial to emotional attraction, there must also be a balance of some sort. Sternberg states,
Couples are indeed happiest when they complement each other on the dimension of dominance
/submission but are about the same on the dimension of warmth (2013). It is important that two
individuals have many values and interests in common, but equally important for their strengths
and weaknesses to balance. A common example of this is one partner being spontaneous, while the
other is rational and level headed. Couples are best happy together when a working balance for
them has been reached. Arguably the biggest factor in emotional attraction is personality. But even
personality ties back into similarity versus complementarity. There could never be a dictionary
definition of what makes a good personality because it is subjective to the individual who is
evaluating the other s personality. Couples work best when their personalities are enough alike that
they share many of the same perspectives and opinions, but also different enough that they can
provide balance for each other. Social constructionism not only plays a role in physical attraction,
but is key in emotional

The Brundtland report (named after Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland, the youngest person and first
women ever to hold the office of Prime Minister of Norway, who spearheaded the initiative which
ultimately led to the earth Summit in 1992), published in 1987 by the United Nation s World
Commission on Environment and Development, defined sustainable development as Meeting the
needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs . Sustainability has been used more in the sense of human sustainability on planet Earth. At

Natural Capitalism is another crucial component of sustainability. Maria Stamas, analyst at Rocky
Mountain Institute (an American organization dedicated to sustainability, working with more than
80 fortune 500 companies) and strong proponent of Natural Capitalism explains the principles
behind the concept, Natural Capitalism is about productive use of resources, biomimicry (modeling
manufacturing process on biological ones), reinvesting in natural capital (business and government
should invest in sustainable agriculture), and service based economy. People want hot showers and
cold beer; they don t care about how these services are produced. In other words it is not essential
that we use fossil fuels to create the showers and drinks. Instead we can create more efficient
processes and use renewable energy technologies to power them. The Kyoto Protocol, a set of
international courtesy rules introduced at the Earth Summit in 1992, was one of the biggest steps
taken in the direction towards reducing carbon emissions in industrialized countries. This protocol
aimed at a five pronged approach: commitment (towards reduction of greenhouse gases),
implementation (of clean mechanisms), minimizing impact (on developing countries), integrity
(through accounting, reporting and review) and compliance (through

Essay about Concepts Of Sight in Sophocles’ Play Oedipus
Concepts Of Sight in Sophocles Play Oedipus
The concept of sight is one of the major motifs throughout Sophocles play Oedipus the King. The
play revolves primarily around series of events caused by many people s insight or lack there of.
Oedipus does not see that he is caught up in a web of cruel destiny that he cannot escape. The gods
demonstrate foresight and insight into the play. In addition to this, Tiresias has physical blindness
but also has prophetic insight. Finally, both Oedipus and Jocasta portray types of mental blindness
and shortsightedness. These are all examples of different uses of sight in the play Oedipus the King.
Oedipus is a hero, but sometimes he can not see the reality of this. He goes into states where he ...

Another ironic concept of sight in the play is found through Tiresias, the blind prophet. This is
an oxymoron in itself. Tiresias is a wise old man who exhibits supernatural powers to interpret
the past and predict the future. The fact that Tiresias is blind makes his visionary powers appear
even more mysterious. This leads Oedipus to doubt Tiresias ability to see the truth. Had
Oedipus not had so much pride, he would have understood the truth of Tiresias. Tiresias uses
puzzling predictions to make men ponder about themselves. He does this to Oedipus by asking
him to consider himself the murderer of Laios. He describes the murderer of Laios as blind
instead of seeing, beggar instead of rich, he will make his way to foreign soil, feeling his way
with a stick (31). This is great foresight on behalf of Tiresias. All of these things will later come
true when Oedipus falls from power and blinds himself. It is Tiresias who is the first person to
tell Oedipus that he has killed his own father. He tells Oedipus You do not see the evil in which
you live (25). It takes a blind prophet to see that it is Oedipus who has murdered Laius. Even so,
Oedipus states You are blind, your ears and mind as well as eyes (25). Therefore, when Oedipus
insults Tiresias and accuses him of being a false prophet, he is also attacking the gods. This
shortsighted decision made by Oedipus can cause no good. If what Tiresias has said is true, then
Oedipus is quickly sealing his own

Through the poems, Carpet Weavers and Mid Term Break, poets Carol Rumens and Seamus
Heaney communicate a loss of innocence, offering different interpretations on similar themes. Both
poems portray the plight of children experiencing a harsh reality which undermines social
conventions which shelter children and forces upon them heavy responsibility. In Carpet Weavers
the children ascend to maturity, being deprived of a childhood due to their responsibility to earn
money labouring in impoverished conditions. Whereas, Mid Term Break traverses the roles of
death and bereavement rather than poverty and hardship. Seamus Heaneyrecounts the death of his
younger brother, revealing the nature of children and how they cope with loss.

A Study On Premarital Cohabitation
Premarital Cohabitation
In the late 1980s, only 44% of women cohabited before their first marriage. 67% of women have
cohabited before their first marriage since 2000 (Manning Cohen, 2012). Premarital cohabitation
has become the majority experience in the United States (Tach Halpern Meekin, 2009; Teachman,
2003). Although cohabitation has become the majority experience, premarital cohabitation is still
associated with poorer marital communication quality, lower marital satisfaction, higher levels of
domestic violence, and greater probability of divorce in U.S. samples (Cohan Kleinbaum, 2002;
Stanley, Rhoades, Markman, 2006). In a study completed by Cohan Kleinbaum (2002), researchers
found that the couples who did not premarital cohabitate had more positive problem solving skills
and more positive help seeking methods than couples who did cohabitate before marriage. Despite
the negative consequences, there are still many reasons young couples are choosing to cohabitate.
Researchers have found that young couples cohabitate before marriage in order to test their
relationship and attempt to divorce proof their marriages (Manning Cohen, 2012). Oppenheimer
(1988) argued facilitates the kind of interaction that increases the knowledge of oneself and of a
potential marriage partner and of the kind of mutual adaptations that are so essential to a stable
relationship (p. 583) (Manning Cohen, 2012). The sharing of living expenses was ranked second

Religious Views On The Fringe
Being from a small, conservative town, being called a liberal is meant insultingly. Being called
atheist was synonymous with devil worshipper . Yet, for a time, I was atheist leaning and still
am a liberal. Being on the fringe has often led to a series of confrontations that have shaped my
political and religious views, occasionally making me as prejudiced as the people who I felt were
attacking me. Thankfully, these confrontations have forced me to educate myself and have made
me strong in my opinions. While my religious and political views have often been heavily related,
they have evolved heavily over time as I matured and learned about the world.
Originally, I was raised to be a Christian. My parents were not strict church goers, but the concept
of God was certainly prevalent in my life. Being raised outside of a church community allowed me
the ability to formulate my own opinions on religion. My father wanted this experience for me. He
was baptized Catholic as a baby, but with age realized he did not agree with the traditions of the
Catholic Church. This experience influenced him to allow me to be able to choose how I wanted to
be baptized.
Due to this, I settled for a Tom T. Hall Me and Jesus Have Our Own Thing Going mentality until I
was a teenager. Instead I was governed by principles such as honesty, charity, respect, and loyalty. I
did not attend church regularly, occasionally read the bible, and was not baptized but I did try to
strengthen my moral

Next, the focus of many industries today is shifting towards more and more automation and
reliance on computers. The World Wide Web has altered the way companies and individuals
interact with each other. What was once thousands of miles away or days in the future can now be
obtained instantly with the click of a mouse button. That being said, the Just In Time system is one
of the many ways companies can manage their inventory. This type of system can only exist
through the use of automation and many advances in technology. The purpose and goal of this
type of system is to eliminate wasted inventory and remain extremely flexible to the ever changing
business environment (Reid Ch 7, 2002). The idea is to take a much broader view of operations
where inventory is not only controlled by managers but also by the salesmen and sometimes even
the consumer himself. J I T management strives to eliminate wasted time and money spent in
unnecessary material handling and overstocked shelves. By allowing the consumer to drive the
inventory a company can simplify the entire process and decrease mistakes.
This type of system is only possible through the use of technology, automation, and flexibility. This
must come from the company providing the product or service and all of the suppliers that are
involved in the process. Further, J I T inventory

background checks for students who would like to enter the RCMP after they graduate. This is
a big problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take
longer for them to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to
pay off the debt. The reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do
a background check on anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each
day, which cased the backlog of almost 17,00 request. Also if the request is the same gender and
birthday of a wanted criminal the RCMP requires finger prints to determine if the person did not
change their name without the government knowing causing a bigger delay because of the
amount of people in each province. The RCMP have to require finger prints from everyone who
needs vulnerable sector screening but they find that it could cause more a backlog for the system

The Role Of Self Assembly And The Construction Of A...
A nanoparticle is the most basic component in the construction of a nanostructure. In general, the
size of a nanoparticle spans the range between 1 and 100 nm. The properties of many conventional
materials change when formed from nanoparticles. This is typically because nanoparticles have a
greater surface area per weight than larger particles which causes them to be more reactive than
other molecules. Self assembly refers to the process by which nanoparticles or other distinct
components spontaneously organize due to direct specific interactions and/or indirectly, through
their environment. Self assembly is typically linked with thermodynamic equilibrium, the
organization of the structures characterized the minimum of the system s free energy. An important
aspect of self assembly is that the building blocks organize into macroscopic structures. This can
happen through direct interactions (Interparticle forces) or through indirect interactions like using a
template or external field as a guide. The grouping of matter in nanomaterials can be broken down
into two techniques. Top down miniaturization techniques or bottom up methods which are
typically based on self assembly or directed assembly. The most widely used materials in bottom
up assembly are colloidmicro and nanoparticles. A lot of time and effort has recently been spent on
the fabrication of functional materials from organized particles. These advanced assemblies can
find applications in areas such as photonics,

Problem 1: C(Q) = 100 + 20Q + 15Q^2 + 10Q^3
a) Fixed Cost (doesn t change depending on output produced) = 100

c) Total Cost of producing Q = 10 units: C(10) = 100 + 20*10 + 15*10^2 + 10*10^3 = 11,800

(c) The inverse demand function will give us the equilibrium price by inputting the equilibrium
output
P* = 200 3(Q1* + Q2*)
P* = 200 3(18 + 20) = 86
P* = 86
(d) Profit = Revenue Cost = P x Q C(Q)
Firm 1 s Profit = 86*20 26*20 = $1200
Firm 2 s Profit = 86*18 54*18 = $972
Hence, according to the Cournot model, firm 1 will produce more than firm 2 resulting in a profit
greater than that earned by firm 2.
Problem 8:
Cournot Model:
The Inverse Demand function is as follows:
P = 600 3Q1 3Q2 c1 = c2 = 300 = marginal cost of both firms
Comparing the inverse demand function to the P = a b(Q1 + Q2) form we get, a = 600 ; b = 3
We arrive at the equilibrium output using the reaction functions for both firms which we get by
equating the firm s Marginal Revenue to Marginal Cost to maximise profits:
Firm 1 s Reaction Function: Q1 = (a c1)/2b Q2/2
Q1 = 300/6 Q2/2 = 50 Q2/2
Also,
Firm 2 s Reaction Function: Q2 = (a c2)/2b Q1/2
в†’ Q2 = 50 Q1/2
Solving both equations, Q1 = Q2 = 100/3 = 33.33
Price = 600 100 100 = 400
Firm 1 s profit P*Q1 C*Q1 = 400*100/3 300*100/3 = 10,000/3 = $3,333.33
Firm 2 s profit P*Q2 C*Q2 = 400*100/3 300*100/3 = 10,000/3 = $3,333.33

Hip Hop Music In The 1970 s
Hip Hop music is a popular subculture, a piece of music that is focused on rhythmic music along
with rapping, a rhyming and rhythmic speech called chanting. Hip Hop culture was developed as
part of hip hop customs, using four keys style elements: rapping, turntables, graffiti writing, break
dancing, instrumental tracks and beat boxing. Hip Hop musicis commonly referred to as rap music
and includes the practice of the entire subculture.
In the 1970 s, hip hop began in the Bronx, NY. At block and house parties using mixed songs
from two different records were used, also two turntables were used by DJ s playing popular
songs to extend the break of Hip Hop development as sampling knowledge and drum machines

as the first hit album in the Hip Hop Industry. Sugarhill Gang s song was considered the first
single to be popularized in the United States and around the world, recorded in one single take; ten
years later a remix was released by Ben Liebrand.
In the 1980 s, hip hop developed many more styles such as Pitbull, Latino Style, Shaggy, Jamaican

Nevertheless, during the 1980 s hip hop began to spread across the United States and England.

To balance these competing interests, Harvard agreed to receive an equity stake in the company,
and Syndexa would pay Harvard a small up front fee to license the patents that Hotamisligil had

start up intended to fund in Hotamisligil s lab at Harvard. Harvard had major concerns with how
the Syndexa sponsored research will be separated from the other funds (government or foundation
funded projects) that Hotamisligil receives. Harvard cannot funnel federally funded inventions to
companies, however at the same time Syndexa was looking for assurance that they would have

negotiations was the conditions under which Syndexa would make royalty payments to Harvard
for products that were not covered under Harvard patents, but discovered using Harvard
technologies. To ensure that Harvard would receive a reasonable return on the patents it was

Swiss International Air Lines
History and Development of EasyJet
The airline was established in 1995 as part of the Easy group conglomerate. It was launched by
Cypriot businessman Sir Stelios Haji Ioannou with two Wet leased Boeing 737 200 aircraft,
initially operating two routes: London Luton to Glasgow and Edinburgh. In April 1996, the first
wholly owned aircraft was delivered to EasyJet, enabling its first international route to
Amsterdam. Until October 1997, the aircraft were operated by GB Airways, and subsequently by
Air Foyle as EasyJet had not yet received its Air operator certificate. In 2000, EasyJet s flotation
on the London Stock exchange took place in 2000 at an offer price of 310p, valuing the Company
at ВЈ777m. Shortly after, EasyJet joins the FTSE 250 list of companies. In March 1998, EasyJet
purchased a 40% stake in Swiss charter airline TEA Basle for three million Swiss Francs. The
airline was renamed EasyJet Switzerland and commenced franchise services on 1 April 1999,
having relocated its headquarters to Geneva International Airport. This was EasyJet s first new base
outside the United Kingdom. On 16 May 2002, EasyJet announced its

Harvey Velocity Theory
Shortly after the Mets 4 2 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday afternoon, the Mets quietly
announced that RHP Matt Harvey was being sent to the 15 day disabled list for discomfort in
his right shoulder. This roster move followed weeks of struggles on the mound for Harvey, who
has thus far pitched to career worst marks in ERA and K/9 marks, en route to a 4 10 record on
the season. While he s still actually pitching respectably (by FIP, Harvey s been keeping pace with
Zach Greinke, Jordan Zimmerman, and David Price), this is not the season we ve come to expect
from the Dark Knight. So what has been tormenting the pride of Gotham?
The Velocity Theory
One big factor could be Harvey s velocity. Harvey s average velocity on all of his pitches ... Show

But no pitcher will ever go up on the mound without any defense behind them (unless you re
Satchel Paige), because most pitchers won t be striking out everyone they face (and by most, I
mean all). Inevitably, some batter will make contact and put the ball in place, at which point,
getting the batter out becomes the responsibility of the defense. Typically, some balls will fall in
for hits, but most won t. The percentage of the balls put in play that become hits is measured using
BABIP, or Batting Averageon Balls In Play (it s also pretty fun to say). BABIP can be used to
measure how good the defense is behind a pitcher, in addition to how unlucky or lucky they are.
Comparing their current season figure season to their career number can let you know if a pitcher
is over or under performing. For instance, Jon Lester of the Cubs has been pitching this season
with a .265 BABIP, which is significantly less than his career number of .299 this indicates that he
s been the beneficiary of good defense and good luck while on the mound.
So what does this have to do with Harvey? Everything. On the season, Harvey is pitching to the
tune of an incredible .353 BABIP more than 60 points worse than his career average. His .353
figure is the second worst in the MLB only Robbie Ray is pitching with a worse BABIP, .364 (and
Ray s career BABIP is .339, so the difference between

Facial Recognition System
CHAPTER 1 FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
1.1 INTRODUCTION
A biometrics is, Automated methods of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical or
behavioral characteristics. For example face, fingerprint, signature, voice etc. Face recognition is a
task humans perform remarkably easily and successfully.
In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly
processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show
a similar face existing in database else it is unknown.
Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several
practical problems. It has been a challenging job for the researchers to develop a facial recognition
system with 100% accuracy because of all the difficulties and limitations. As we know that the
human face changes after a short period of time so no facial recognition system can work
perfectly after a few years. It has to be updated with the latest database images of the person in
order to verify the person. Also wearing spectacles, mask, mustaches may also affect the output of
the face recognition system. Face recognition is a biometric which is much easier to understand,
because we recognize or identify different people mostly by their faces. However the recognition
process used by the human brain for identifying faces has not a concrete explanation. It has now
become essential to have reliable security systems in

America and Israel Support Essay
America and Israel Support
From the creation of Israel in 1947 to present day, America has supported Israel. The prime minister
of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu said, The United States has given Israel, apart from political and
military support, munificent and magnificent assistance in the economic sphere. With America s
help, Israel has grown to be a powerful, modern state. America has help and turned Israel to a
very powerful nation. The United States provides 3 billion dollars to the Israeli government each

The United States permitted Israel to have satellite images while the Yom Kippur War and during

America has been a great benefactor to the state of Israel. However, America should not support
Israel unconditionally because it generates deep hatred from Arabs and that the government of
Israel has shifted away form the democratic ideal and beliefs of America. The unconditional
support of America towards Israel has caused Arab terrorist groups to hate and kill citizens of the
United States. Also Israel s has turned away from a democratic ideal that grants equal rights to all
citizens.
Powerful and influential Arabs have a deep desire to kill and destroy America because of the
current unconditional support America gives to Israel. For example, Hezbollah, a very capable
terrorist group, hates America because of America s support to Israel. In 2002, Muhammed
Husayn Fadlallah, a religious commander of the Hezbollah, said, I believe that America bears
responsibility for all of Israel... America is a hypocritical nation... for it gives support and lethal

The Car T Cells Essay
What are CAR T cells? Describe their structure.
Car T cells are more formally known as chimeric antigen receptors. These cells are genetically
modified t cells that are designed to target tumor cells. These CAR t cells work by circulating
through the blood looking for cells that they can bind to. The receptors of these cells are
specifically designed to recognize a pattern that is common cancer. Once they cell comes into
contact with the specific receptor, cell will then attack and destroy the cancer, but also can tell
the rest of the body that there is a problem. The additional hope is that the CAR T cells will
create memory cells within the body as a normal T cell. In the simplest explanation, CAR T cells
are genetically modified to attack cells the body would otherwise not recognize.
These cells are recombinant receptors that have been developed specifically for this purpose.
These CARs are usually composed of an extracellular antigen recognition receptor that is attached
by a spacer to a transmembrane domain. Around these transmembrane domains could be
additional domains that function as co stimulator to produce a further immune response. In a
normal t cell, there is a requirement of an MHC molecule to bind and recognize the antigen,
however, the CAR T cells are capable of overcoming the limitation. So CAR T cells are able to
bind directly and independent of this system allowing the cell to read a much diverse pool.
How are they generated for clinical use?
These cells

Book III in Wang Shifu s The Story of the Western Wing
Book III in Wang Shifu s The Story of the Western Wing
One of China s most popular love comedies, The Story of the Western Wing (Xixiang Ji) by Wang
Shifu (1250 1300) dramatizes a scholar and beauty romance. Zhang Sheng, a promising student,
and Cui Yingying, a beautiful maiden, meet in a temple, fall in love at first sight and after a series
of thwarted attempts, they end up happily marrying each other, after the student has passed the
civil exam as the top one, of course. Among the five books of The Story of the WesternWing, Book

theatrical features and thematic complexity. First of all, while dan and sheng share most of the ...

Structurally speaking, Book III appears between two climaxes. Book II promises a marriage for
the two lovers but ends up damping their expectations as well as that of the audience all of a
sudden when Madam Cui takes back her word. Book IV begins with the long awaited climactic
scene in which Zhang Sheng and Yingying consummate their love. Put in between these two
episodes of dramatic tension and emotional intensity, Book III may at the surface merely serve as a
buffer, that is, a temporary relief from the breath taking conflicts on the part of the audience.
Actually, the dramatic rhythm at this stage does slow down. As the central character, Hongniang
frequently evokes laughter from the audience with her quick repartee and satirical comments on the
pretentious lovers. Apart from all this, however, by making Hongniang sing all the time and
keeping the lovers relatively reticent they are only heard in dialogues Book III complicates the
interrelationships between the three characters and significantly contributes to the psychological
depth of this play. In other words, while foregrounding Hongniang and exploring the complexity in
her motivation, the play also employs her as a vehicle for the off stage conflicts between Zhang
Sheng and Yingying and their inner conflicts, which are much less spectacular than they are
psychological.
However, one has to begin with the question

Justice John T. Clarke s Views On Judicial Appointments...
Unlike the other branches of government, the Constitution is largely silent on judicial qualifications
and the nomination process of judicial appointments other than stating that justices should exhibit
good behavior and are confirmed with the advice and consent of the Senate. Thus, tradition
largely dictates judicial nominations and the nomination processes that follow. The need for a
judicial appointment can occur when a sitting justice dies in office, choses to retire because of
old age or for disability reasons. Clare Cushman in Courtwatchers provides examples of other
justices in the past resigning to pursue other political ambitions. During the nineteenth century,
some justices had no qualms about campaigning for political office, either secretly or openly,
while still on the bench (pg. 229). Chief Justice John Jay is a prominent example of political
ambitions when he was elected governor of New York. Others have stepped down to pursue peace
like Justice John H. Clarke did when left in 1922 to lobby the United States to join the League of
Nations. When a judicial vacancy occurs, the Presidents and their advisors consider factors such as:
geographical, religious, racial, or gender representation a candidate would bring to the Court,
political ideology, qualifications, and whether the nominee would change the ideological balance of
the court among others. Of these factors, political ideology is the most important factor during the
nomination and confirmation

Naps Bad
In my opinion, I believe that naps can be a good thing for people of all ages. If everyone got the
chance to take a thirty minute nap everyday, they could be rejuvenated for the rest of the day
and their brain and mental focus would be much greater than those who don t take naps. In
addition, routinely losing sleep can also be a bad thing because it is creating sleep debt, which
is a total hours of sleep lost over the course of a week, according to The National Heart, Blood,
and Lung Institute. Another reason why we should take naps is because it boosts your mental
capacity, meaning you are able to retain more information when you take a short nap right before
or right after you have learned new information. Furthermore, naps can be a good thing for people
of all ages because they boost your mental focus during work hours and school. Also, if you are
not getting enough sleep at night, you can take a short cat nap to boost that mental focus and
determination to do and finish your school work. In a NASA research study done recently, they
have shown that taking a twenty six minute nap helped increase a pilots mood and alertness,

may lose sleep at night due to a huge test that needs to be studied for, we can take a nap earlier in

importantly, naps should be used by everyone because they improve performance and help create
a better mood and alertness within a person. In conclusion, naps should be justified upon everyone
and they should be used more often than not. therefore, anyone can use a nap once in a while so
we should motivate the community into taking naps so they can perform better on a daily basis

Essay On Anapaite And Sulfur
Introduction
Around the world, we the people, are surrounded by numerous minerals that we might not even be
aware of. After researching the minerals sulfur and anapaite, I have come to a conclusion that
minerals are an engaging topic to dig into. The two minerals I analyzed had both similar and
different qualities. While examining the minerals by using specific character traits I discovered
interesting data on each substance.
Salient Sulfur
Sulfur (also spelled sulphur) is a yellow pigmented element that makes up 3% of the earth s mass.
With the chemical formula of S8 , sulfur is additionally classified as an element. Furthermore, sulfur
is found in multiple locations that vary from hot springs within volcanic regions to specific sulfates
such as iron pyrites or gypsum. Sulfur has a steep dipyramidal crystal structure with tabular crystals
along with its orthorhombic crystal system. At the same time, sulfur has two directions which are

For example, one trait the minerals share in common is how they both have tabular crystal
structures. This means both of the minerals have crystals that can be either thick or thin. Another
similarity between sulfur and anapaite is that each mineral has a nonmetallic luster. That said, the
minerals don t appear to have a metal like sheen although they have different lusters. Anapaite has
a glassy luster while sulfur has a more greasy luster. Bringing up differences, the two minerals do
seem to have some alike attributes but there are many differences that go into the pair. For
instance, sulfur has a yellow streak while anapaite has a white streak. . Adding on, the mineral
family for anapaite is phosphates which is an acid that contains a specific group {PO43 or
OPO(OH)2}.Although sulfur and anapaite are two enthralling minerals to learn about each of them

Avie Products Inc. is planning to add a third shift to its production schedule. It currently has 450
workers involved in all aspects of its fertilizer business, best done in Canada. A recent surge in
demand from its global customers is driving the need for more workers; however, Simi Meher, the

downturns in the global environment where Avie does business.

3.Assume that Avie goes ahead with the third shift. What can the company use to evaluate the
effectiveness of this strategy in a year s time?
Avie can assess the effectiveness of this strategy by using the benchmarking. Benchmarking
involves comparing Avie Products processes and practices with the competition. This will allow
Avie to measure how fast and how far they have progressed with their strategic plan. The metrics
used are human capital metrics which assesses aspects of the workforce and HR metrics which
assesses the performance of the HR function.
4.If the demand for Avie s product should drop in the future and the company is required to lay off
some of the staff on the third shift, what would be the best way to determine who, on this shift,
should be laid off? (Note that Avie is not unionized.)
If Avie is required to lay off some employees hired for the third shift, the best way to determine
who should be laid off is based on seniority and/or ability. The ability of employees to change jobs
and learn new skills, along with their performance is heavily weighed when making layoff
decisions. Since Avie is not unionized, layoffs to senior employees can still occur. The practice of
using seniority as the basis for layoffs may have an impact on women and minority groups who
often have less seniority than others.

Medea and Othello
Two tragedies from two different time period, Medea and Othello show similarities and differences
in their characters, story plots and settings. Euripedes Medea written in the classical period and
Shakespeare s Othello written in the romantic era, the two tragedies shows different feel of what
tragedies are.
First of all, the most obvious difference between these two play is how Medea shows unities
(time, place and action) whilst Othello has none. It s clearly shown in the first scene, as soon as
the characters come out, that in the Medea, it s a set place, and there would be no movement. The
staging is nice and clear and throughout the whole story, the characters are in one place, and there
is a unity between the time, place and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Medea, the story plot is sort of told through the chorus. The group of woman and the nurse,
kind of act as Medea s conscious and tells Medea what s morally right and what s morally wrong.
In a way the chorus is inside Medea s head, yet they tell us the basic story plot and what s
happening within the story. Whereas in Othello, there is no longer choruses however there are
soliloquies in which characters break that wall between the audience and themselves and tell
something that s in their mind only to the audience, and the audience assume that the other
characters on stage can t hear it. In Othello, Iago does most of the soliloquies, he does it at the end
of each scene, talking to himself and staring right into the camera to tell the audience what he
actually considers doing and such.
Despite all these differences, there are also some areas in which the two stories are similar. For
example, each tragic hero has their set of hubris, hamartia and agon. These are characteristics of a
tragic hero which are seen in both Medea and Othello. Quickling defining what these terms are
Hubris is self confidence, hamartia chracter s mistake and agon being one s internal struggle.
Taking these terms into consideration, in Medea, her hamartia is her excess love for Jason which
brings her to her downfall. Her hubris was that she had too much self pride to leave to Athens and
her agon, once again being that passionate woman who

Mission San Antonio Analysis
According to one of the friars from Mission Soledad, Native Americans had a fondness for every
kind of music (Geiger and Meighan 1976:135). This was not exclusive to this mission as many of
the padres from the Geiger and Meighan reading said that the natives had an inclination toward
music. This enthusiasm for music gave the padres an opportunity to use this to their advantage as
the natives would be more willing to learn and adopt European music compared to other European
ways. But even with this seemingly perfect opportunity, the padres faced many difficulties in
simply teaching the natives even though all of them had studied music and sung in choirs prior to
coming to the New World. They were simply not professional musicians, according to the padre
from mission San Antonio (Geiger and Meighan 1976:135). Because of this lack of experience or

the native s abilities, Duran began to question his notions after seeing some native boys from a

In the Dyes and Crimes laboratory experiment, the phosphorescence, fluorescence, and

The dyes in the laboratory experiment are made of numerous colors, mainly red and blue, the
spectra from each of the dyes corresponded to the wavelengths obtained from each of dye i.e. 620
nm for red and 450 nm for blue.
Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) works in relation to the polarity of chemicals. A plate is first
covered with aluminum foil or silica etc. and has solutions of varying polarities placed upon the
aluminum foil or silica. When placed in a in a puddle of solvent that moves up the plate, the
different inks i.e. the solution will move up the place based on their Rf values. Adherence increases

Jay Cutler Research Paper
One thing certain about Chicago Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler is his reputation for
getting hurt from time to time. While some fans will tell you Cutler s injuries are a result of his
passion and love for the game which lead to him going all out and trying to do too much, others
will tell you he will miss 2 weeks over a hang nail. Regardless of the reason, his past injuries have
put the Bears through some difficult times due to a lack of a reliable back up. Chicago has put
some effort into addressing this matter during the offseason. Along with signing veteran Brian
Hoyer to a one year contract after the NFL draft, the Bears claimed Connor Shaw Friday, the day
after he was waived by the Cleveland Browns. This will be Connor s third

Small Talk Journal #1 Active Listening
Scenario
I enjoy saying that I work for a software company, although my position within the company is
very annoying. My job is to pretty much listen to people all day and enter their work orders for
their rented house or apartment. Our company, which is a property management software company,
decided to make some extra money and provide a service to help out property managers and their
maintenance staff and also entertain themselves with our recorded calls.
Even though our company is rated as the 23rd best place to work at for a small company,
according to Glassdoor.com, my specific job isn t the best. I actively listen every single day and
although it is very tiring, it has advanced my multitasking and communication skills drastically.

that correct?
Tenant: Yeah, get someone over here now Ben! This shouldn t be happening; I pay $300 a month
for this to not happen.
Me: I completely understand your frustration and what I m going to do for you is contact the

Tenant: (Goes on long rant about lack of service by Maintenance Department... I actively listen and

Me: Yeah I know exactly what you mean, and I do understand where you re coming from. I ve

Rhetorical Analysis Of Blood, Toil, Tears, And Sweat
On May 13th, 1940, newly elected Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered a historic speech
titled Blood, Toil, Tears, and Sweat . He discusses the necessity of an empowered Great Britain
in the shadow of World War II; as well as his confidence within the strength of the British people.
This speech s lasting impact was reinforced by it s usage of the three appeals: ethos, logos, and
pathos. These appeals address the ethical, logical, and emotional ideas and undertones within a
piece. Churchill s iconic speech truly encapsulates these three appeals within every word.
Ethos is considered to be the ethical aspect of a piece. In other words: is the information and
speaker reputable and trustworthy? This appeal is clearly demonstrated within Blood, Toil, Tears,
and Sweat . For example, Churchill states
In this crisis I hope I may be pardoned if I do not address the House at any length today. I hope
that any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the political
reconstruction, will make allowance, all allowance, for any lack of ceremony ... Show more content

He demonstrates a sense of respect for those listening to his word and those who he works with,
which creates trust in the audience and gives a reputable air to his words. Logos refers to the
logic of a work, addressing if the piece is able to be understood and makes sense. This appeal is
demonstrated in the line Let that be realized; no survival for the British Empire, no survival for all
that the British Empire has stood for (Churchill). Churchill frankly states that without action, the
British Empire and its values will crumble in the face of Nazi Germany. This clear and conscience
delivery of Britain s fate is logical and able to be understood. So in turn, the appeal logos can be

Difference Between A College Scholar And A Slacker
Let s face it, not all who choose to continue school past the 12th grade made the choice with the
best intentions in mind. When it comes the college, the next level of education after high school,
students who choose to attend will come from different nationalities, religions, and financial
backgrounds, but can almost always be classified into two categories the will define them during
the collegiate journey. Those categories are the scholars and the slackers. A college
scholar is one
who makes the best of their college experience and understands the main purpose of earning a
college degree. A college slacker is one who does not understand the main purpose of earning an
educationand does not make the best of their experience. Scholars and slackers are hard to tell
apart based on their appearance, so to be able to tell which is which you would have to look at

When it comes to the time spent on preparing yourself to do well, for scholars it always seems
like there is never enough and every bit of time is precious and must be used to put together
their best approach for either an upcoming quiz or test. A slacker must put together their best
approach for the upcoming party or concert and can honestly care less about a test grade. Now
when looking at a scholar and a slacker there are some similarities, even though they aren t
always easy to identify. There is nothing wrong with attending a party here or there or even
taking time to see your favorite musician. Scholars and slackers are initially given the same
resources and opportunities to do exceptional in their educational craft. What they choose the do
with those opportunities is what separates the two groups. The key to what determines if you use
your resources correctly and become a scholar or incorrectly and become a slacker is one in the
same. This key is the

Fashion Marketing And Its Impact On Consumer s Design...
The concept of marketing is the action or business of bringing or sending a product or commodity
to the market. (Oxford English Dictionary) Fashion Marketing differs from the marketing of other
goods because of the uniqueness of the merchandise. According to the Parson s School of Design,
fashion marketing is the process of analyzing, developing, and marketing current fashiontrends into
sales strategies. (IJMBT) In fashion marketing, consumers are the creators by virtue of their
adoption and rejection of new trends and styles. Furthermore, fashion is integral to the construction
and communication of one s social identity, helping to define the class, ethnicity, class, age, and the
gender of the wearer as a reflection of individuality. Fashion marketers must position products based
on consumer s design preference. Fashion advertisements have their own stylistic modes and
spheres of production and consumption, involving the interrelationship of word and image among
other things. (Encyclopedia of Clothingand Fashion) This paper will use Gilles Lipovetsky s, The

Complications Of Obesity In America
Over time, America has become the most overweight country in the world. The lifestyle of
having home cooked meals every night has changed into the lifestyle of having people drive to
fast food places and grab something quick for dinner without thinking whether or not it is a
healthy choice. With many Americans realizing the obesity rate is increasing in both adults and
children, many are trying to act upon it. Whether it is through a New Year s resolution to lose
weight, or The First Lady s effort to change school lunches, more people are finally beginning to
realize the difference between being overweight and underweight. Obesity is defined as a condition
characterized by the excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body ( Obesity ).... Show more

Some behavioral risk factors for those who are overweight include coronary heart disease, stroke,
certain cancers, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes (Kruger). On the other hand, underweight people
face risk factors such as malnutrition[,]...osteoporosis, [and vitamin deficiency] (Lee). Similarly,
death and a decrease in life expectancy are one of the risk factors that both overweight and
underweight share in common. An expert in this field, Judy Kruger, explains how ...risk factors
for and consequences of excess weight in older adults [are getting] critical because people do not
take these risk factors seriously enough to lower the statistics. Through these risk factors, it is
evident that being overweight is more dangerous than being underweight. Some starve themselves
to prevent obesity as some gets out of control eating a lot, but either way both cases are just one
step forward to death. Even though both types of obesity are different, they both share the same
idea as well as similar risk factors that are gone unnoticed. Obesity not only has undesirable
appearances and risk factors, but also makes a person physically

Oppression Of The Catholic Religion
Many people might not have known that oppression is present in regard to religion. There have
been many times over the past decades were overt forms of oppression have been present when a
dominant religious group takes over a subordinated group. In a reading this week, Christian
Privilege is talked about. This type of privilege surprised me because I did not even know it
existed. The reading talked about how dominant religious would punish individuals who went
against their religionand tried to force others out so they would be on top. It is absurd to me that
individuals would go to such great lengths to make sure that people were following their religion
and not another. A topic that really enforced this type of oppression is the marginalization of the
Catholic religion. I have never noticed that unless you are in a public school, one never has off
for holidays unless it is a Catholic holiday. It is preposterous that some students need to be
excused from school just to celebrate any over their religious holidays. I could not believe that so
much of our school system is centered on a Christian denomination. This reading really helped open
my eyes to the oppression that many religions have to face (Blumenfeld, 2010). After looking over
this article, something that bothered me is that our culture is so focused on the Christian
denomination that we never hear about any other religions. I went to Catholic school all my life, so
I never went against the societal norms. There

How Does Bernard Marx Present John
Bernard Marx, who is the main character until John s appearance in chapter seven, is one of the
most important characters in the novel. Marx first appears after the director has finished
explaining that jealousy and lovesickness don t exist in the World State. This introduction is
ironic because, as we gain insight to the mind of Marx, we learn that he is experiencing both
jealousy and lovesickness. In this same scene we are shown that he struggles with his emotions
towards Lenina and finds it difficult to express his feelings towards her, which probably stems
from his anxiety about rejection. Marx is an Alpha Plus, which means that, naturally, he should
be able to enjoy the benefits that come with being a member of the upper caste. However, Marx
is noticeably short in stature for his caste, which is rumored to be a result of alcohol in his blood
surrogate. This is cause for humiliation and ridicule from his other caste members. Marx is,
unfortunately, aware of his differences and people s responses to them. Because of this, he
develops resentment towards the society he lives in, internally criticizing their behavior because he
himself cannot engage in the same activities as his counterparts. Marx longs to be a strong
individual, and even rebellious; yet, when he is confronted by his superiors, he shrinks and becomes

Synthetic chemistry and compounds are everywhere in our lives, and without them we would never

device. Synthetic chemistry is the base of our life and without it our normal tasks would be
impossible to accomplish, as synthetic chemistry opened the doors of creativity and innovation,
for example if you got sick in the 1400 with smallpox you would of died in a 2 4 month but now
we can easily treat it with synthetic drugs. Today I will be talking about the use of synthetic

some of them put the patient in a 6 hours coma other 12 and some go up to 20. Moreover,

For example, the government has never said anything about the covering of Viagra. Viagra is a
medication used for males which helps men get hard enough to have sex with their sexual
partner, but the government has given harsh rules against birth control which protects girl s
future. Since Viagra and other erection pill were covered by insurance, many feminists would
make joke about how men s sexual pleasure and reproductive rights were being covered but
women were still paying out of pocket for it. In 2012, it was a huge step into the lives of many
when women didn t have to pay for birth control. In fact, in the 21 century birth rates dropped
because of the current ways to prevent sex such as rubber condoms, and birth control (Graff, 2012).
As well many women are scared that without birth control they will be put in rough situation. For

How Did The Steam Engine Affect Society
In 1785 the steam engine was invented by James Watt, in Britain. It changed the lives of many
people in the industrial revolution era. The steam engine didn t just change the lives of people, it
changed the way that the world worked socially, economically and politically. The industrial
revolution is the period from when goods were made by hand to making them by machines. The
steam enginewas used for transportation and to run machinery. The steam engine changed the lives
of people who worked in factories. The attempts by many people before James Watt to find another
solution, we inefficient and they wasted a lot of energy. After the invention of the steam engine the

It spread to North America and Western Europe within a couple of decades. The introduction of
the steam engine to society had good and bad effects. The steam engine made a lot of smoke, the
smoke in the air caused pollution. This pollution gave some people diseases and it was not good
for their health. Before the steam power came in, young children were forced to work which was
very unsafe because they could get hurt a lot easier than the other adults working. With all these
bad effects in mind there are a lot more positives. Some of these positives are that manufactures
produced more goods a lot quicker, the steam engine allowed these goods to be taken longer
distances a lot faster. Steam power created a lot more employment, more employment meant that
things could be made and distributed a lot quicker. Society is much better off because of this

The Disposal Of Colored Organic Waste Water
The disposal of colored organic waste water from the textile industries causes serious problems to
the aquatic ecosystem and because of this the aquatic environment is contaminated which created a
serious threat to the living organisms. Textile industry is water intensive resulting a large amount of
harmful dye effluent 33. The increasing awareness on environment issues the norms are being
specified by the governments of various countries 34. In view of complex chemical, molecular
structures and inherent toxicity of the dyes, the complete removal of dyes from the effluent became
difficult by conventional physico chemical treatments like adsorption, coagulation and ion
exchange. Moreover, these treatments only transfer contaminants from one phase to another and
fail to completely demineralize the toxic pollutants 35. The photocatalytic reaction has become a
desirable method to convert the organic pollutants into simpler and harmless compounds to
eliminate the environmental pollution 36. Therefore, it is highly desirable to develop a simple
but effective way to degrade these colored organic wastes. Conventionally, a biological treatment
or degradation process is utilized to decolorize the dyes, but it is ineffective for the complete
removal and degradation of dyes. In last few years, the catalytic process derived by solar energy or
other radiation energy has been studied for the successful degradation of harmful organic dyes into
environmental friendly materials. Recently,

outcrops of changeable rocks. Mean yearly precipitation is around 3000mm in Kribi. In the

central atmosphere is described by exchanging dry and wet period. The zone has an area surface

timberland harbors pigmies whose livelihoods are exclusively subject to rummaging and chasing.
There are three urban focuses and a few little towns in the zone. There was an uncontrolled
inundation of individuals looking for development occupations or seeking to give administrations

Allegory Of The Republic By Plato s The Republic
Allegory of the Cave is a dialog between Socrates and Gloucon in The Republic written by Plato.
The image of the cave is a universal picture of the human conditions and a complex metaphor that
applies to everyone in society. It questions the mentality and the biased point of view created by
the society and human nature (which relates to stereotyping, something I will explain further into
the essay). The idea delivered through the dialogue thousands of years ago is so general that
examples could still be found in today s society.
Socrates draws the mental image of the cave to his student in the beginning. The cave is long and
dark, but at the opening to the cave you can see some light coming in. In the cave there are humans
chained as prisoners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the allegory, his friends who have never left the cave and experienced what that one prisoner has
mock him and look down upon his findings. This leaves the prisoner in a dilemma in expressing and
communicating what is real to them. They tell him that he has been blinded by outside sources and
what they believe is the truth because it has been in front of them all their lives, but the prisoner
who left knows not to believe so because of what he learned. He is then left pondering about what
is an actual truth and what is not, and this is terribly mind blowing. This is why I think the phrase
ignorance is bliss, explains the allegory. Because at the end of the day, the prisoners who never
left do not have to deal with the troubles of wondering about things beyond their created world,
while the prisoner that left and came back must consider both truths brought upon him and make a
decision of what to believe and have the responsibility of creating his own opinion. This
responsibility cannot be taken lightly and can be troubling, while the prisoners who never left do
not have this weight on their shoulders. This is how being ignorant may just be an easier way out
then gaining knowledge beyond comprehensibility. Because overall, it s less to think about; and
overthinking is tiring to the

when administered the tests to measure these variable, the client showed some areas that could
allow for improvement. During the BORRTI test, the client stated that he has feelings he cannot
explain, tries to ignore unpleasant events, allows his mood to affect how he sees situations, and
believes that people are focused on him personally (WPS, 1995). This demonstrates that the client
has some denial, indecisiveness, and confusion about his internal self, and that there is a slight
distortion occurring in how he perceives other people (WPS, 1995). The UPPS P Short Impulsive

that he tends to act without thinking when he is excited, as he did when he purchased the

Tobacco is dangerous for your body. It can cause serious health issues, Smoking has a long term

  • 2. The Effect Of The Thermal Resistance And Properties Of An... Introduction: The purpose of this experiment is to study the effects of how fins affect the thermal resistance and properties of an object. The experiment conducted analysis on three cases for three different plates which were subjected to convection from a blower. The first plate had two fins, the second had one fin and the third had no fins. Each plate had an electrically generated heater in the base. Each plate also started in the same initial conditions. Each plate was well insulated around the base, was painted black and assumed to be a black body with an emissivity of 1. For each case, the wattage of the heater was recorded initially and finally to determine the average heat generation. A constant air flow was applied to each plate by a blower. The methods for recording data involved using thermocouples to analyze the temperature over time. Once a steady state temperature was observed in LabVIEW, then a thermal camera was used to obtain the infrared profiles for each plate. The methods involved in interpreting the infrared profiles consisted of using software to determine the temperatures at the plate, fin base and fin tip. The experiment was conducted in order to gain insight on how fins affect thermal resistance of an object. General assumptions include steady state, constant thermal properties, constant freestream velocity of air, identical fins, negligible surface area from thermocouples on fins, black body, neglect conduction resistance form black paint and ... • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Walden True to Yourself Henry David Thoreau, an alumni of Harvard University, is considered one of the greatest authors from the 1800s. Although he worked a variety of professions, writing seemed to be the one he enjoyed best. Thoreau even isolated himself in the woods for two years and wrote about it in Walden, which is a text reflecting on simple living. In an excerpt of Walden called Where I Lived, and What I Lived For Thoreau argues that every individual should follow the beat of their own drum. In the beginning of paragraph seven Thoreau believes we should spend one day as deliberately as nature (280). To emphasize his point, Thoreau uses anaphora throughout paragraph seven, repeating the word let several times. Let, a verb, means to not prevent or forbid; allow. By repeating the verb, Thoreau puts great emphasis on the phrases following let . Thoreau wants people to know that they are allowed to live life simply. They are allowed to wake and fast or breakfast, they are allowed to let company come and go, they are allowed to let the bells ring and the children cry. People should ignore what other people think, or want and focus on what they think, or want. Thoreau wants people to elude the little things and focus on the bigger, simpler picture for themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses rhetorical questions to highlight this. If the bell rings, why should we run with the crowd? (280). If people went with the crowd, like birds flying south for the winter, they may never discover what they want, just what the crowd wants. Running with the crowd, a person will never reach their individual goals. To believe in your own thought, to believe in your goals, to believe in yourself, that is going against the crowd. Unable to reach someone else s goals, they need to strive for their own goals. Swimming against the stream, Thoreau isolated himself from society, simplified his life, and discovered ... • 4. Amerika Power In Franz Kafka s Amerika, there is a clear theatre of power displayed throughout the captain s office scene, through the use of a tableau on page eleven. Within this tableau Kafka uses the description of each character s appearance, and actions which allows for readers to distinguish who holds the most power, and visualize the hierarchy of power. When Karl first enters the room, the first people readers are introduced within the tableau are the three men sitting at a round table. The two men wearing black are described as port authority, while the sole person in blue is an officer on the ship. By just introducing these characters first, one can conclude that these men are of the lowest level of power within the room: seeing that they are the easiest to access. When one walks into the room nothing stands in between these men except for a table that is piled high with documents. The narrator states that the officer views these documents then them hands off to the two men in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It stated that there is a window in between the bursar, and the two noblemen, which makes these two the least accessible people within the room; similar to that of kings who are the hardest to reach. Nonetheless, through the use of their descriptions, it becomes even more clear the power they possess. When speaking about the clothing of the two, the captain of the ship is described as wearing a ship uniform with a slew of medals on his chest which are all visual symbols of authority and power. Meanwhile, the senator is the only person within the room wearing casual clothes, and this shows that he is the pinnacle of power. Unlike everyone else, the senator does not have to participate in the tableau of power, rather everyone is already aware of his status which allows him to be within an elite space and not have to prove his ... • 5. The Popularity Of Fast Casual Dining A question that is asked every day is what do we want to eat? This question has many different answers; but some answers everyone would agree with is something fast, cheap, and good quality. This is the market that fast casual has been dominating over the years, and a market that seems to be on the rise for the foreseeable future. Whether it is a concept created by an unknown player in the industry, or a Michelin Star chef, the fast casual concept s rising popularity is still at the beginning of its revolution. History shows that the concept of fast casual dining is not new. According to Erin DeJesus of Eater.com The expansion happy Wolfgang Puck launched his chain Wolfgang Puck Express back in 1991, before the term fast casual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest fast casual chain in the world is Panera Bread, with Chipotle trailing at a close second place. These two brands have not only represented this growing industry, but inspired many other concepts trying to replicate the success that they have achieved. The prosperity achieved by Panera and Chipotle have encouraged many world famous chefs to try and create their own concepts. In her article, DeJesus talks about how two Michelin starred chef Joshua Skenes is partnering with Adam Flieschman of Unami Burger to introduce a fast casual Chinese noodle concept called Fat Noodle. Here guests will be able to dine on the recipes of Joshua Skenes for $6 10 per meal. So now we have high quality chefs who want to dive into this industry by creating a fast fine casual restaurant. These restaurants can be characterized by their quality of food, speed of service, as well as their price point. According to Ethan Stowell, the chef s approach to product and the guest s experience is where the fine dining sensibility can make the biggest impact on a fast casual restaurant. I don t think they are much different than running higher end places, he says of the fast casual market. The goals are still the same. The goals are have somebody come in to have a good time, try to offer them good value for what they get. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity,... Another aspect of emotional attraction is reciprocity, which by definition has to do with a mutuality of some sort. In respect to attraction, it is the mutual interest. Human beings tend to like those who like them and dislike those who dislike them. The perfect illustration of this effect is the middle school drama scene. Most of us have probably heard or even said a line something to the effect of, I don t like her/him because they talked badly of me. Inversely, when another individual expresses an interest in you, you probably feel a sense of accomplishment or flattery that causes you to show an interest in them as well (Sternberg, 2013). As much as we would like to think we left this attitude in middle school, it follows us... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The types of things that those who are emotionally attracted to one another have in common depends on what those specific people value most. While having things in common with another is beneficial to emotional attraction, there must also be a balance of some sort. Sternberg states, Couples are indeed happiest when they complement each other on the dimension of dominance /submission but are about the same on the dimension of warmth (2013). It is important that two individuals have many values and interests in common, but equally important for their strengths and weaknesses to balance. A common example of this is one partner being spontaneous, while the other is rational and level headed. Couples are best happy together when a working balance for them has been reached. Arguably the biggest factor in emotional attraction is personality. But even personality ties back into similarity versus complementarity. There could never be a dictionary definition of what makes a good personality because it is subjective to the individual who is evaluating the other s personality. Couples work best when their personalities are enough alike that they share many of the same perspectives and opinions, but also different enough that they can provide balance for each other. Social constructionism not only plays a role in physical attraction, but is key in emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Natural Capitalism is another crucial component of sustainability. Maria Stamas, analyst at Rocky Mountain Institute (an American organization dedicated to sustainability, working with more than 80 fortune 500 companies) and strong proponent of Natural Capitalism explains the principles behind the concept, Natural Capitalism is about productive use of resources, biomimicry (modeling manufacturing process on biological ones), reinvesting in natural capital (business and government should invest in sustainable agriculture), and service based economy. People want hot showers and cold beer; they don t care about how these services are produced. In other words it is not essential that we use fossil fuels to create the showers and drinks. Instead we can create more efficient processes and use renewable energy technologies to power them. The Kyoto Protocol, a set of international courtesy rules introduced at the Earth Summit in 1992, was one of the biggest steps taken in the direction towards reducing carbon emissions in industrialized countries. The gods demonstrate foresight and insight into the play. In addition to this, Tiresias has physical blindness but also has prophetic insight. Finally, both Oedipus and Jocasta portray types of mental blindness and shortsightedness. These are all examples of different uses of sight in the play Oedipus the King. Oedipus is a hero, but sometimes he can not see the reality of this. He goes into states where he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another ironic concept of sight in the play is found through Tiresias, the blind prophet. This is an oxymoron in itself. Tiresias is a wise old man who exhibits supernatural powers to interpret the past and predict the future. The fact that Tiresias is blind makes his visionary powers appear even more mysterious. This leads Oedipus to doubt Tiresias ability to see the truth. Had Oedipus not had so much pride, he would have understood the truth of Tiresias. Tiresias uses puzzling predictions to make men ponder about themselves. He does this to Oedipus by asking him to consider himself the murderer of Laios. He describes the murderer of Laios as blind instead of seeing, beggar instead of rich, he will make his way to foreign soil, feeling his way with a stick (31). This is great foresight on behalf of Tiresias. All of these things will later come true when Oedipus falls from power and blinds himself. It is Tiresias who is the first person to tell Oedipus that he has killed his own father. He tells Oedipus You do not see the evil in which you live (25). It takes a blind prophet to see that it is Oedipus who has murdered Laius. Even so, Oedipus states You are blind, your ears and mind as well as eyes (25). Therefore, when Oedipus insults Tiresias and accuses him of being a false prophet, he is also attacking the gods. This shortsighted decision made by Oedipus can cause no good. If what Tiresias has said is true, then Oedipus is quickly sealing his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study On Premarital Cohabitation Premarital Cohabitation In the late 1980s, only 44% of women cohabited before their first marriage. 67% of women have cohabited before their first marriage since 2000 (Manning Cohen, 2012). Premarital cohabitation has become the majority experience in the United States (Tach Halpern Meekin, 2009; Teachman, 2003). Although cohabitation has become the majority experience, premarital cohabitation is still associated with poorer marital communication quality, lower marital satisfaction, higher levels of domestic violence, and greater probability of divorce in U.S. samples (Cohan Kleinbaum, 2002; Stanley, Rhoades, Markman, 2006). In a study completed by Cohan Kleinbaum (2002), researchers found that the couples who did not premarital cohabitate had more positive problem solving skills and more positive help seeking methods than couples who did cohabitate before marriage. Despite the negative consequences, there are still many reasons young couples are choosing to cohabitate. Researchers have found that young couples cohabitate before marriage in order to test their relationship and attempt to divorce proof their marriages (Manning Cohen, 2012). Oppenheimer (1988) argued facilitates the kind of interaction that increases the knowledge of oneself and of a potential marriage partner and of the kind of mutual adaptations that are so essential to a stable relationship (p. 583) (Manning Cohen, 2012). Yet, for a time, I was atheist leaning and still am a liberal. Being on the fringe has often led to a series of confrontations that have shaped my political and religious views, occasionally making me as prejudiced as the people who I felt were attacking me. Thankfully, these confrontations have forced me to educate myself and have made me strong in my opinions. While my religious and political views have often been heavily related, they have evolved heavily over time as I matured and learned about the world. Originally, I was raised to be a Christian. My parents were not strict church goers, but the concept of God was certainly prevalent in my life. Being raised outside of a church community allowed me the ability to formulate my own opinions on religion. My father wanted this experience for me. He was baptized Catholic as a baby, but with age realized he did not agree with the traditions of the Catholic Church. This experience influenced him to allow me to be able to choose how I wanted to be baptized. Due to this, I settled for a Tom T. Three Article Summaries and Analysis ARTICLE SUMMARIES Article 1 Jobs in jeopardy over background check backlog(Wed,March 19,2014 Toronto Metro) This article is about the catastrophic backlog in the Toronto police background checks for students who would like to enter the RCMP after they graduate. This is a big problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take longer for them to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to pay off the debt. The reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do a background check on anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each day, which cased the backlog of almost 17,00 request. Also if the request is the same gender and birthday of a wanted criminal the RCMP requires finger prints to determine if the person did not change their name without the government knowing causing a bigger delay because of the amount of people in each province. The RCMP have to require finger prints from everyone who needs vulnerable sector screening but they find that it could cause more a backlog for the system that keeps all the records. • 15. The Role Of Self Assembly And The Construction Of A... A nanoparticle is the most basic component in the construction of a nanostructure. In general, the size of a nanoparticle spans the range between 1 and 100 nm. The properties of many conventional materials change when formed from nanoparticles. This is typically because nanoparticles have a greater surface area per weight than larger particles which causes them to be more reactive than other molecules. Self assembly refers to the process by which nanoparticles or other distinct components spontaneously organize due to direct specific interactions and/or indirectly, through their environment. Self assembly is typically linked with thermodynamic equilibrium, the organization of the structures characterized the minimum of the system s free energy. An important aspect of self assembly is that the building blocks organize into macroscopic structures. This can happen through direct interactions (Interparticle forces) or through indirect interactions like using a template or external field as a guide. The grouping of matter in nanomaterials can be broken down into two techniques. Top down miniaturization techniques or bottom up methods which are typically based on self assembly or directed assembly. The most widely used materials in bottom up assembly are colloidmicro and nanoparticles. A lot of time and effort has recently been spent on the fabrication of functional materials from organized particles. These advanced assemblies can find applications in areas such as photonics, ... The percentage of the balls put in play that become hits is measured using BABIP, or Batting Averageon Balls In Play (it s also pretty fun to say). In face recognition Features extracted from a face are processed and compared with similarly processed faces present in the database. If a face is recognized it is known or the system may show a similar face existing in database else it is unknown. Face recognition has been a topic of active research since the 80 s, proposing solutions to several practical problems. • 27. The Car T Cells Essay What are CAR T cells? Describe their structure. Car T cells are more formally known as chimeric antigen receptors. These cells are genetically modified t cells that are designed to target tumor cells. These CAR t cells work by circulating through the blood looking for cells that they can bind to. The receptors of these cells are specifically designed to recognize a pattern that is common cancer. Once they cell comes into contact with the specific receptor, cell will then attack and destroy the cancer, but also can tell the rest of the body that there is a problem. The additional hope is that the CAR T cells will create memory cells within the body as a normal T cell. In the simplest explanation, CAR T cells are genetically modified to attack cells the body would otherwise not recognize. These cells are recombinant receptors that have been developed specifically for this purpose. These CARs are usually composed of an extracellular antigen recognition receptor that is attached by a spacer to a transmembrane domain. Around these transmembrane domains could be additional domains that function as co stimulator to produce a further immune response. In a normal t cell, there is a requirement of an MHC molecule to bind and recognize the antigen, however, the CAR T cells are capable of overcoming the limitation. So CAR T cells are able to bind directly and independent of this system allowing the cell to read a much diverse pool. How are they generated for clinical use? These cells ... • 30. Justice John T. Clarke s Views On Judicial Appointments... Unlike the other branches of government, the Constitution is largely silent on judicial qualifications and the nomination process of judicial appointments other than stating that justices should exhibit good behavior and are confirmed with the advice and consent of the Senate. Thus, tradition largely dictates judicial nominations and the nomination processes that follow. The need for a judicial appointment can occur when a sitting justice dies in office, choses to retire because of old age or for disability reasons. Clare Cushman in Courtwatchers provides examples of other justices in the past resigning to pursue other political ambitions. During the nineteenth century, some justices had no qualms about campaigning for political office, either secretly or openly, while still on the bench (pg. 229). Chief Justice John Jay is a prominent example of political ambitions when he was elected governor of New York. Others have stepped down to pursue peace like Justice John H. Clarke did when left in 1922 to lobby the United States to join the League of Nations. When a judicial vacancy occurs, the Presidents and their advisors consider factors such as: geographical, religious, racial, or gender representation a candidate would bring to the Court, political ideology, qualifications, and whether the nominee would change the ideological balance of the court among others. Of these factors, political ideology is the most important factor during the nomination and confirmation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If everyone got the chance to take a thirty minute nap everyday, they could be rejuvenated for the rest of the day and their brain and mental focus would be much greater than those who don t take naps. In addition, routinely losing sleep can also be a bad thing because it is creating sleep debt, which is a total hours of sleep lost over the course of a week, according to The National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute. Another reason why we should take naps is because it boosts your mental capacity, meaning you are able to retain more information when you take a short nap right before or right after you have learned new information. Furthermore, naps can be a good thing for people of all ages because they boost your mental focus during work hours and school. Also, if you are not getting enough sleep at night, you can take a short cat nap to boost that mental focus and determination to do and finish your school work. More importantly, naps should be used by everyone because they improve performance and help create a better mood and alertness within a person. After researching the minerals sulfur and anapaite, I have come to a conclusion that minerals are an engaging topic to dig into. The two minerals I analyzed had both similar and different qualities. While examining the minerals by using specific character traits I discovered interesting data on each substance. Salient Sulfur Sulfur (also spelled sulphur) is a yellow pigmented element that makes up 3% of the earth s mass. With the chemical formula of S8 , sulfur is additionally classified as an element. Furthermore, sulfur is found in multiple locations that vary from hot springs within volcanic regions to specific sulfates such as iron pyrites or gypsum. Euripedes Medea written in the classical period and Shakespeare s Othello written in the romantic era, the two tragedies shows different feel of what tragedies are. It s clearly shown in the first scene, as soon as the characters come out, that in the Medea, it s a set place, and there would be no movement. In Medea, the story plot is sort of told through the chorus. The group of woman and the nurse, kind of act as Medea s conscious and tells Medea what s morally right and what s morally wrong. In a way the chorus is inside Medea s head, yet they tell us the basic story plot and what s happening within the story. Whereas in Othello, there is no longer choruses however there are soliloquies in which characters break that wall between the audience and themselves and tell something that s in their mind only to the audience, and the audience assume that the other characters on stage can t hear it. In Othello, Iago does most of the soliloquies, he does it at the end of each scene, talking to himself and staring right into the camera to tell the audience what he actually considers doing and such. Despite all these differences, there are also some areas in which the two stories are similar. For example, each tragic hero has their set of hubris, hamartia and agon. These are characteristics of a tragic hero which are seen in both Medea and Othello. Quickling defining what these terms are Hubris is self confidence, hamartia chracter s mistake and agon being one s internal struggle. The introduction of the steam engine to society had good and bad effects. The steam engine made a lot of smoke, the smoke in the air caused pollution. This pollution gave some people diseases and it was not good for their health. Before the steam power came in, young children were forced to work which was very unsafe because they could get hurt a lot easier than the other adults working. With all these bad effects in mind there are a lot more positives. Some of these positives are that manufactures produced more goods a lot quicker, the steam engine allowed these goods to be taken longer distances a lot faster. Steam power created a lot more employment, more employment meant that things could be made and distributed a lot quicker. Society is much better off because of this ... • 53. The Disposal Of Colored Organic Waste Water The disposal of colored organic waste water from the textile industries causes serious problems to the aquatic ecosystem and because of this the aquatic environment is contaminated which created a serious threat to the living organisms. Textile industry is water intensive resulting a large amount of harmful dye effluent 33. The increasing awareness on environment issues the norms are being specified by the governments of various countries 34. In view of complex chemical, molecular structures and inherent toxicity of the dyes, the complete removal of dyes from the effluent became difficult by conventional physico chemical treatments like adsorption, coagulation and ion exchange. Moreover, these treatments only transfer contaminants from one phase to another and fail to completely demineralize the toxic pollutants 35. The photocatalytic reaction has become a desirable method to convert the organic pollutants into simpler and harmless compounds to eliminate the environmental pollution 36. Therefore, it is highly desirable to develop a simple but effective way to degrade these colored organic wastes. Conventionally, a biological treatment or degradation process is utilized to decolorize the dyes, but it is ineffective for the complete removal and degradation of dyes. In last few years, the catalytic process derived by solar energy or other radiation energy has been studied for the successful degradation of harmful organic dyes into environmental friendly materials. Recently, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Allegory Of The Republic By Plato s The Republic Allegory of the Cave is a dialog between Socrates and Gloucon in The Republic written by Plato. The image of the cave is a universal picture of the human conditions and a complex metaphor that applies to everyone in society. It questions the mentality and the biased point of view created by the society and human nature (which relates to stereotyping, something I will explain further into the essay). The idea delivered through the dialogue thousands of years ago is so general that examples could still be found in today s society. Socrates draws the mental image of the cave to his student in the beginning. The cave is long and dark, but at the opening to the cave you can see some light coming in. In the cave there are humans chained as prisoners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the allegory, his friends who have never left the cave and experienced what that one prisoner has mock him and look down upon his findings. This leaves the prisoner in a dilemma in expressing and communicating what is real to them. They tell him that he has been blinded by outside sources and what they believe is the truth because it has been in front of them all their lives, but the prisoner who left knows not to believe so because of what he learned. He is then left pondering about what is an actual truth and what is not, and this is terribly mind blowing. This is why I think the phrase ignorance is bliss, explains the allegory. Because at the end of the day, the prisoners who never left do not have to deal with the troubles of wondering about things beyond their created world, while the prisoner that left and came back must consider both truths brought upon him and make a decision of what to believe and have the responsibility of creating his own opinion. This responsibility cannot be taken lightly and can be troubling, while the prisoners who never left do not have this weight on their shoulders. This is how being ignorant may just be an easier way out then gaining knowledge beyond comprehensibility. Because overall, it s less to think about; and overthinking is tiring to the ... He graduated high school, served in the military, works as a security guard, grasps complex concepts presented to him, and expresses the ability to analyze and think logically. He is coherent and has valuable insight on himself and how his actions affect others (Graybeal, 2001). There seems to be some problems with his reality testing and impulse control; when administered the tests to measure these variable, the client showed some areas that could allow for improvement. During the BORRTI test, the client stated that he has feelings he cannot explain, tries to ignore unpleasant events, allows his mood to affect how he sees situations, and believes that people are focused on him personally (WPS, 1995). This demonstrates that the client has some denial, indecisiveness, and confusion about his internal self, and that there is a slight distortion occurring in how he perceives other people (WPS, 1995). The UPPS P Short Impulsive Behavior Scale results showed that the client is impulsive as well (Cyders et al., 2014). He stated that he tends to act without thinking when he is excited, as he did when he purchased the motorcycle without first discussing it with his wife. Even with slight reality distortion and impulse control, the client has excellent judgment; he often reflects on the mistakes that he made and discusses how he would have acted differently, ...
