Essay about 1936 Berlin Olympics

In 1936, the summer Olympics were hosted in Berlin. Hitler was the chancellor of Germany at the
time, and the Nazis were in power. Before the Olympics, German Jews had been segregated and
discriminated against by Aryan Germans. The 1936 Berlin Olympics were not righteous, fair, or
unbiased in any way, shape, or form. Through the Olympics, Hitler spread his anti Semitic views to
millions of spectators and athletes that attended the Olympics. The Olympics were an extremely
controversial topic at this time, and resulted in many believing in Aryan superiority. Hitler concealed
his anti Semitic propaganda, but people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conditions of the Holocaust were evoked by the Olympics because people unknowingly bought
into Nazi propaganda because of how Germany hid their harsh, anti Semitic propaganda, and because
of how the Olympics were broadcasted around the world. A visitor to Berlin during this time shares
their personal experience; We arrived in Berlin Friday evening before the games opened on
Saturday. We found Berlin in festive array. The great avenue Unter den Linden, was bordered on either
side by the Nazi flags, posters of German towns, loud speakers were spaced all along the broad center
parking. xii Upon arrival, tourists saw no direct anti Semitic posters or harsh Nazi propaganda.

Germany seemed festive, and Germans innocent they had taken down signs that said things like,
Jews not welcome here as to not scare tourists away. xiii On the Olympic sports complex hung both
Olympic flags and Swastikas, showing that what the Swastika s stood for and the Olympics were
connected. xiv
Not only were posters taken down to keep tourists in the dark, but certain laws (specifically, laws
against homosexuality) no longer applied to those who were visiting Germany around the time of the
Olympics.xv Visitors then had no

What Is David Hasselhoff Ever Done
David Hasselhoff is one of the most known faces throughout the world for his performance in
countless movies over the years. Hasselhoff is most well known from His show Baywatch . He has
also starred in Click, Dodge ball, and Fugitives Run to name a few (imdb.com). But, for those who do
not know, Hasselhoff was also a singer. This week I decided to do my listening log on Hasselhoff s
live performance at the Berlin Wall in 1989. I chose this because it is iconic. Hasselhoff s singing
performance at the Berlin Wall is definitely the most significant song performance he had ever done.
David Hasselhoff s performance at the Berlin Wall is on video on youtube.com, this is where I
watched it. For his performance he sang one of his recorded songs looking for freedom on New Year s
eve 1989, just weeks after the wall started being tore down (wikipedia.org). He wore a piano keyed
scarf and a light up jacket. His performance was good for the event. He played the part well, being
over joyed and enthusiastic as most everyone there in the crowd ... Show more content on

A few weeks later, a German version of the song came out and was performed by Tony Marshall. Both
versions were recorded at Hansa Studio 2 in Berlin (wikipedia.org). so that makes three versions of
the same song, but hands down Hasselhoff s version was undoubtedly the most significant historically.
The song is very upbeat all throughout. Hasselhoff is the leading voice in the song, but you can hear
what sounds like a choir joining in with Him at different parts of the song. This song gets you
motivated as it repeats the same few words, I ve been looking for freedom. Each time Hasseloff says
these words, they come out just as heartfelt and passionate as when he started the song. He was the
right choice for this song and moment because of His strong voice and powerful

The Drug Of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients
Drug Testing Welfare Recipients To test or not to test has been has been the question at hand for many
states that are dealing with whether or not to pass the law that welfare recipients should or should not
be drug tested in order to receive assistance from the government. Florida was the first state to
mandate the law in 2011 and thereafter twenty four other states in the last year have also passed this
law in our own state of Oklahoma being one of them. Although alcohol is legal it is abused far more
than marijuana or hard core drugs, According to the 1996 study by the National Institute of Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism the differences between the proportion of welfare and non welfare recipients
using illegal drugs are statistically insignificant. Although some states have decided to pass the law for
welfare recipients in order receive government assistance, I believe it s ineffective to drug test these
welfare recipients in order to receive their benefits. Welfare in the United States commonly refers to
the federal government welfare programs that have been put in place to assist the unemployed or
underemployed. Help is extended to the poor through a variety of government welfare programs that
include the Women, Infants, and Children Program, which is referred to as WIC, Medicaid, and
Temporary Assistance to Needy Families commonly known as TANF and Aid to Families with
Dependent Children. Drug testing welfare recipients is negative because drug tests performed on

Factors to Determine the Validity of Information Sources...
Individuals such as university or high school students are, at one point or another in their studies,
faced with the task of having to write a technical report that involves a research (specifically focused
on existing material). There is an abundance of information available in the world today, which covers
a vast amount of fields and all this information is readily available to the public but it is often unclear
to these students that all the information available may not always be credible and actually reliable or
even true. The negligence of these students often results in non factual research papers that are poorly
written up. The failure to check for reliable sources may lead to inadvertent plagiarism too. This report
focuses on what makes sources of information more reliable and credible than others, with a specific
focus on research reports.
Readers seek sources of information that is trustworthy. That the creator, author or researcher s ideas
are their own is substantiated mainly by evidence. When given the task to have a research report
written up, it usually entails doing research and finding information created by others, this being the
case, it is imperative that credible information should be used. Remember that if your audience has
found the source you have cited from as a non credible source it could result in the relationship
between you and your audience to suffer. There are various factors that determine the validity of a
credible source of information,

The First Invention Of Radiology
The first invention of radiology began with the creation of X rays in 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen, a
50 year old professor of physics at Germany s University of Wurzburg, made a discovery that would
in a very short time change medical and human history. Though, discovered by accident, Roentgen s
discovery would help detect tumors, broken bones and bullets buried within bodies, never before seen
with the naked eye. Since the invention of X rays, there had been numerous discoveries of similar
inventions, from image intensifier to ultrasound to magnetic resonance imaging. Without these
inventions, humans would not have been able to see the inner workings of the body or detect key
information in modern times that allow us to prevent serious illnesses where other inventions proved
useless since imaging plays a huge role in diagnosis. In current society, radiology s first creation has
been exposed to most citizens, whether it is to detect a broken bone at the doctor s or to determine a
person s risk of getting cavities at the dentist s. Although, inventions from radiology does hold risks of
radiation exposure amongst its patients, the benefits of them greatly outweighs its risks.
Before the development and research of radiology, life was simplistic with little knowledge of
observing the internal organs of a person. If a patient was shot, doctors had to, literally, poke around
their patient s organs with their fingers or use electrical induction machine to send sound waves

Analysis Of The Movie Miracle On Ice By Gavin O Conner
Every hockey player has heard the soundbite of Al Michaels shouting Do you believe in Miracles?
Yes! after the 1980 American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union.
During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young American
hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true miracle on ice gave the country a
strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of
the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date.
This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by
Gavin O Conner. Although Herb Brooks rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the Cold War, that did
not seem to be the case. Herb s rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his significant playing and
coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover his motivation prior to the
miracle game. Close analysis and research reveals Herb and his players have rejected many attempts
of being used as a political pawn after defeating Russia in the miracle on ice. This victory indeed
boosted the nation s spirits regarding the war, but the game had little to no impact on the outcome
between the two governments.
The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they
are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career.

Vodka Memories of My Past
I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country, and it
cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live differently
from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind is this
obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the same as
this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die.
The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they can
hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been long told
that if you see a ship in the distance, all of your dreams and aspirations sit staring back at you. But the
ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the girl runs after the
train, praying that the man will see and get off.
I have a single packet of cigarettes, sitting in the middle of an empty room. Yes, they are for
emergencies. That one moment that I feel myself break and I mean truly break, I shall rush to this

fresh start, turning over the page, and getting ready to stain the whiteness with a tea stain, ringing the
corner, and destroying the purity.

Guantanamo Bay Torture
Is waterboarding suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay justifiable in order to save American lives?
For years since the attacks on 9/11, prisoners suspected of terrorist actions have been treated poorly
and taken to bases like Guantanamo Bay where they are interrogated and abused past levels of
legality. This is upsetting how the United States government tortures people only suspected of terrorist
activity. There have been many incidents where innocent people were accused of terrorist activity and
harassed. After the bombing of the Boston Marathon, three innocent muslim men were put in custody
to answer some questions on the bombing (Friedersdorf). The innocent men had done nothing wrong
but the United States has a history of fighting terrorism in a very forceful way. Is it okay to question

not only waterboarded prisoners, but slammed them into walls, chained them in uncomfortable
positions for hours, stripped them of clothing and kept them awake for days on end (Shane). These
actions don t match with the C.I.A. s definition of torture because they were used under strict rules
(Shane). Shane shows how the CIA justifies torture by saying that it prevents mass murders of the
American public. In a hypothetical situation, there are many lives at risk and there is a potential
culprit, it is logical to put that person through a near death experience to save lives. It may not be
morally right but the C.I.A. isn t worried about morals as much as American lives. Shane applies the
logic to how during World War II, Japanese were put in concentration camps for safe measure. Even
Japanese Americans were put in these camps which shows how the government isn t as worried about
keeping the public happy about their decisions as they are to keeping the public safe. This shows how

Use Of Similes In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
One often hears the saying, Don t judge a man until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The way an
author uses similes can help the reader better understand how the character feel and what they re going
through like Sylvia Plath in The Bell Jar. Esther Greenwood, a college student, working at a month
long job as a guest editor for a fashion magazine feels like an outcast from the rest of the girls; she
doesn t seem to fit in. When she arrives back home, she receives several bad news leads her into
thinking suicide is the best thing to do. After multiple failed attempts, she is put into a mental hospital
where she will gain hope in life and finally discover who she really is. In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar,
there are several instances in which the author uses similes to illustrate a more detailed
image/description to better portray how the main character felt during her New York job, her suicide
attempts, and at her stay at the mental institution. During The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath used similes to
highlight Esther s characteristic of a wallflower during her trip to New York. After Frankie, one of
Lenny s friend abandones Esther, he is forced to take her and Doreen to his apartment. Lenny
obviously wanting privacy with Doreen he asks her to go but Doreen defends Esther and says she will
only go with the do any of her friend. From there on, Esther feels unwanted and ignored while she
spends time at Lenny s place. Plath describes Esther s abandonment while Lenny and Doreen dance, I
felt myself shrinking to a small black dot against all those red and white rugs and that pine paneling. I
felt like a hole in the ground (Plath 16). Esther feels left out while her best friend and a stranger dance.
The simile expresses how she felt invisible and ignored. The author tries to relate to the reader who
once in their life may have felt outcastes or left out. Esther has a tendency to feel terrible about
herself. From the beginning of the story, she explains how she feels different and not in the right place.
The author wrote, The city had faded my tan, though. I looked yellow as a Chinaman. Ordinarily, I
would have been nervous a about my dress and my odd color, but being with Doreen made me forget

A Lost Lady By Willa Cather
The setting of A Lost Lady is the beautiful prairies and flyover regions of the United States. These
open areas of rolling hills, grasslands, and wildflowers are often overlooked, but are none the less a
pleasant view, as well as an important part of America s history. Another aspect of America s history
that is often overlooked, but not as pleasant, is the idea of gender roles and the objectification of
women. In Willa Cather s A Lost Lady, Mrs. Forrester is able to break through and overcome such
objectivity that her husband, Captain Forrester, and her younger friend, Niel Herbert have placed on
her. To fully grasp Marian Forrester s breakthrough of female objectivity, it is important to understand
how her husband objectified her throughout the novel. First, the Forresters are prominent figures in
their society and are viewed as a high class family because of his work on the railroads and for his
beautiful wife. Being so well respected, Captain Forrester often had company and visitors to his house
for dinner or other gatherings. During such events, Marian Forrester s sole role was to greet those
visitors. This is an example of Captain Forrester s objectification because it gratified him [Captain
Forrester] to see men who were older than himself leap nimbly to the ground and run up the front
steps as Mrs. Forrester came out on the porch to greet them (Cather 10). The quote from the novel
expains that many men were impressed or infatuated with Marian s physical

Native Americans were the first people to live in America before any other man came. It is believed
that the Native Americans came from Asia way back during the Ice Age through a land bridge of the

Americans living in America, North of Mexico ( American ). Native Americans had all separated and

Before the Europeans first came to America, the Iroquois originally lived in what is now upstate New

also migrated because of the lack of growth in their crops. The Iroquois now live in all different parts
of northeastern United States, Southern Canada, in parts of Ohio, Kentucky, and still upstate New

moved all around the United States to wherever they pleased.
Still existing, the Iroquois Confederacy consists of approximately 45,000 people out of 125,000 total
people ( Iroquois ). Some of these tribal members live in Southern Canada and most of the members

Analyzing The Conservation Of Mechanical Energy Of A...
Section I: Worksheet
2. Discussion
The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the conservation of mechanical energy of a harmonic
oscillating spring system. In addition, this observation involved analyzing to what affect some of the
mechanical energy was lost or dissipated into other forms of energy, despite the experiment s attempt
to minimize the dissipation of the energy as much as possible.
The first part of the experiment involved calculating the spring force constant (k) of the harmonic
oscillator. This was achieved by utilizing Hooke s Law for a harmonic oscillator:
F= kx
The force (F) was obtained by using five different weights that hung over a pulley system like shown

The photogate comb consisted of 61 teeth that were each (2.00 ±0.03) mm wide, with gaps in between
each tooth of the same dimensions as shown in Figure 2 below.
As shown in the figure above, it is necessary to measure the displacement of the comb, and thus wise
to establish an equilibrium position. In the example above, the 27th tooth is being used as the
equilibrium position; however, for this experiment, the 31st tooth was used as the equilibrium
position, or rather the position with zero displacement. In addition, the photogate sensor was placed
just to the right of the 31st tooth, as to begin in the unblocked position. Therefore to start the
experiment, the comb was to be pulled to the right, just beyond the photogate sensor, and the motion
would be directed to the left.
When the photogate comb was released, the times were recorded at the intervals when the comb teeth
blocked the photogate sensor. For example, the time that corresponds to the 31st tooth would represent

regular classroom with everyone else in his grade and age. In that type of classroom there tends to be a
special education teacher, the teacher tends to help with the teaching and helping with the curriculum
and make adaptations to help the student with special needs. A Resource room is normally for kids
with intensive help to keep them on the same pace as the grade level kids, Here the special education
teacher works with a small group of students, the teacher uses special techniques that will help them

self contained classroom is where your child or the student is removed from the other students and the

Blindness in King Lear Essays
Blindness is defined as, according to dictionaries, unable to see and lacking the sense of sight , but in
King Lear, written by William Shakespeare, it has a relatively new definition. Blindness, as
Shakespeare portrays, not only a physical inability to see, but also a mental flaw that some characters
present in this tragic play. King Lear and the Earl of Gloucester are the two characters who make up
the parallel double plot of the tragedy caused of their lack of sight, mental blindness. They both
undergo a very similar plot and suffer from their false decisions, the ones they feel very remorseful of
later on. In other words, such blindness is the root of false decisions that leads to disasters. The

power instead of being his daughter, he would eventually become an old, poor, childless man. All of
these events noticeably happened in the play because of his lack of sight about the knowledge of the

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Boomers
Communication Weaknesses
Boomers
Each generation s weakness is a subset of their communication preferences and strengths. Boomers
preferred method of communication necessitates multiple meetings, which can be rather time
consuming for other employees of a company. Boomers have also grown accustomed to email, and are
less likely to keep up with current technology trends. As of January 2017, new trends have signaled
the decline of email in the workplace, according to Laurie Beaver of Business Intelligence: informal
and engaging social networking apps are convenient, easy to use, and fast (2017). They may also take
longer to get feedback to people, because it is in their nature to take their time to provide thorough and
complete feedback. With older methods of communication on the decline, and new technologies
emerging, Boomers need to avoid the obsolescence of their current skill set by following new trends in
information technologies.
Gen X
Again, this generation inhabits a space between two very different generations, one which moves at a
steady pace, and one which constantly adjusts to the newest trends. Gen X lies somewhere in the
middle, where they rely on techniques they re comfortable with, without growing complacent.
Members of Generation X, according to De La Torre, grew up more skeptical of authority and rules,
placing high value on independence and flexibility (De La Torre, 2016). Communication with Gen
Xers needs to focus on meeting that preference, otherwise it will be inefficient. Work tends to run on
their own schedule, which can slow down internal processes and result in conservative deadlines to
allow scheduling discrepancies (Perine, 2012). Efficient time use both complements and conflicts with
setting a schedule independently: when focused, Gen Xers can increase productivity and accomplish
high volumes of work; when distracted, they inhibit their teams and decrease overall productivity.
Millennials
The same traits which make Millennials an asset to a company can also make them a liability.
Millennials prefer brief, frequent communications with their colleagues, which can interrupt others
work and cause distraction. Because of the frequency of those exchanges, this generation often leave

Examples Of Equality In Harrison Bergeron
The short story Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut is a story about such an equal society that people
s lives are being ruined. Harrison Bergeron fought the government to free him and his society of the
handicaps that are used to create a perfectly equal world. Also, what is equality? Equality is not a good
quality for a society because, there is no room for change, and no one has the motivation to continue.
The definition of equality is the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. In
Harrison Bergeron, the Government took the equality to an extreme level, by forcing equality upon the
general population. They gave those who were strong, weights to slow them down, those who are
beautiful masks to wear, and the intelligent, headphones that produced loud noises when they thought.

American Sisterhood
On the subject of feminism, there must be broader look at the unique circumstances that people have
encountered throughout their lives and how each of them deals with such matters. According to the
authors, a transnational feminist analysis requires intersectionality between race and gender. A call to
action will be to form of new perspective on the issues that surround women and specially women of
color. Instead of focusing on analyzing feminism through a western lens, such as global sisterhood,
feminism should ensure the integration of all the aspects of women in different regions of the world.
This sisterhood then leads to the concern of basing the western experience upon non western people
and it creates more internalized stereotypes. A call to action will be to form of new perspective on the
issues that surround women and specially women of color. M. Jacqui Alexander and Chandra Talpade

The novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai SiJie is about two boys, the narrator and
his friend Luo. Along with other with other youths of China, they were both sent down to the country
side during the Cultural Revolution of China to be re educated. At the time anyone that had high
school education were considered intellectuals and were considered as a threat to the cultural
movement. However, the narrator or Luo only had middle school education and were considered
intellectuals. One big reason why they were sent down was because their parents were considered
intellectuals and they were paying the price for it. During their time in the country side, Luo falls in

Since love was a very foreign idea to them, it influenced them to become more interested in western
book, which did not include any propaganda. When the narrator reads Jean Christophe a book by
Romain Rolland, he talks about the main character fondly Without him I would never have understood
the splendor of taking free and independent action as an individual. Up until this stolen encounter with
Romain Rolland s hero, my poor educated and re educated brains had been incapable of gasping the
notion of one man standing up against the whole world (110). This is the main reason why Mao didn t
want people reading any kind of literature that was not connected to the party or scientific. Books such
as the one the narrator read inspired people which can motivate then to rise up against his dictatorship
and lead to his loss of power. When talking about the main character from the Balzac Ursule Mirouet
novel, the narrater sates I longed to be like her: to be able, while I lay asleep on my bed, to see what
my mother was doing in our apartment five hundred kilometers away, to watch my parents having
supper, to observe their gestures...better still, like Ursele, I would visit, in my dreams, places I had
never set eyes on before... (58 59). From this passage it can be seen how disillusioned the youth of
China were due to the re education process. Another key reason why Luo and the narrator were so
interested in the books was because they could relate to the stories. They were able to picture it
happening to themselves which in a way gave them an escape from their reality and the fact that they

The Place of an Auteur Director in the Nigerian Video Film...
Introduction
Films are the product of many individuals working together. This is evident in the credits that are
scrolled at the end of each finished work. I could easily say that it takes a village to make a movie.
Consequent upon the above stated, it becomes shocking to find out that there is a significant tendency
among film scholars to treat films as the product of a single individual. To toe this line of
interpretation goes to mean that the director of the film is the creative intelligence who shapes the
entire film in a manner parallel to how we think of literary works being authored.
In his essay, Notes on The Auteur Theory in 1962, Andrew Sarris, one of the key proponents of Auteur
theory corroborates the above position ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In agreement with this position, Sarris, in the beginning of his essay, states:
As far as I know, there is no definition of auteur theory in English language, that is, by any American
or British critic. Truffaut has recently gone through great pains to emphasize that the auteur theory
was merely a polemical weapon for a given time and a given place and I am willing to take him by his
word. But lest I be accused of misappropriating a theory no one wants anymore, I will give the
Cahiers critics full credit for the original formulation of an idea that reshaped my thinking on the
cinema (Sarris, p.585).
This lack of theory within auteur criticism has been recognized from nearly its beginnings. Andre
Bazin, for example, complained that despite the fact that the writers of Cahiers Du Cinema have
practiced for three or four years, they have not yet produced the main corpus of its theory (emphasis
mine). Little wonder why many new books in film theory pay little or no attention to auteur theory.
One of the more influential intellectual currents which has contributed to the criticism and rejection of
auteur theory is structuralism, and following it, post structuralism. Both structuralists and
poststructuralists reject one of the

Journal #2: Visual Symbol
A visual symbol that would be considered appropriate and important to the work would be the Magic
Bus. This Magic Bus provided Christopher McCandless with a place of shelter in the American West.
He came across this abandoned bus during his travels and gave it this name because of a song from
The Who which was a British Rock band that Mccandless favored. The author included this visual
symbol in the book most likely for the purpose of demonstrating McCandless belief in luck and hope.
McCandless believed that since he randomly came across a bus in the wild, it was considered a form
of luck because it wasn t likely for someone to come across that during an expedition in the wild. He
also later on eats the wrong berry that unfortunately poisons him, leading to his death that took place
on the old mattress in the Magic Bus; which he viewed as a loss or ending of his luck that he has been

von Hayek counters Galbraith s The Dependence Effect by pointing out that the crux of the argument
relies on a flaw that ultimately leads a faulty conclusion. While agreeing that many of our wants are
created by production, von Hayek illustrates that society s highest desires, including art, literature and
education, are instilled in us by there very creation. Were it not that, say, the works of scholars, artists

Clearly, in such a case, people are being treated as means to corporate profits, rather than ends.
Galbraith uses this claim of moral wrong to justify redress.
Galbraith s solution is equalized re distribution, where by the means of production are controlled by
the state. The only way to prevent this injustice, he claims, is to let the state decide how wants are
fulfilled. This will prevent the moral wrong committed by the producers who are creating demand in
order to generate profit. It is, however, inconsistent for Galbraith to reach this conclusion. Galbraith
would have us take from the collective, by force if necessary, in order to prevent the manipulation of
individuals. In other words, to prevent people from being treated as ends the solution is to treat people
as ends. The Inconsistency of the Dependence Effect
In The Non Sequitur of the Dependence Effect von Hayek critiques Galbraith s argument (in The
Dependence Effect) that the means of production must be controlled by the state. Galbraith, a socialist,
argues that consumer demands are manufactured by the very companies that create products to meet
those same demands. Because these wants are created, rather than intrinsic, Galbraith contends, they
are not urgent or important. The completion of Galbraith s syllogism provides that ultimately the state

Analysis of Statistical Data
Statistics In the Smith, et al (2006) study, 26 patients were used. They all had COPD that was stable,
and they all complained of coughing. Their age, mean FEV, and smoking history were all accounted
and controlled for (Smith, et al, 2006). Methods used involved a cough challenge test, sound
recordings of their cough day and night, and a questionnaire that involved their perceived quality of
life (Smith, et al, 2006). The coughs were actually manually counted and then translated to coughs per
hour. The cough seconds per hour was quantified based on the number of seconds in each recorded
hour that contained a cough. The overall median time that was spent coughing was calculated to be 7.5
cough seconds for every hour, although this lessened considerably at night (Smith, et al, 2006). The
subjective cough scores were taken into account and compared with the actual cough seconds per
hour. It was found that the study participants often thought that they spent more time coughing than
what the data indicated to b accurate (Smith, et al, 2006). By looking at the statistical data used
(median cough seconds per hour), it can be seen that people with COPD do not (on average) spend
that many seconds per hour coughing. However, because of the disruptive nature of coughing
repeatedly throughout that hour, these individuals often think they spend much more time coughing
than they actually do (Smith, et al, 2006). This was evidenced by the fact that a subjective measure of

A common aspect of digital forensics is that it involves the use of various analyzing tools and
techniques in the examination of evidence. It requires scrupulously accurate standards that must stand
up against cross examination in courts. According to Casey (2011) the outcome to digital forensic
should be to follow the tails that offenders leave during the commission of a crime and to tie
perpetrators to the victims and crime scenes (pg16). Digital forensics involves applying computer
investigation skills and analysis techniques to solve crimes and provide evidence to support your case.
Digital forensics attempts to extract certain types of data from electronic devices; organize and
document this information into an official report form to be presented in a court of law. Digital
forensic is a methodology science that using various analyzing techniques in the interest of
determining potential legal evidence. A more technically definition of digital forensics is that it is a
specialized science that uses techniques, processes, and procedures to preserve, extract, analyze, and
present electronic evidence. (Dahake amp; Daware, 2012)
The field of digital forensics has grown to become a science in itself; in the last decade, digital

In the speech given by Woodrow Wilson on the 150th anniversary of Princeton University, what was
to become the unofficial motto, Princeton in the Nation s Service and in the Service of All Nations,
was first recited. In that address, Wilson concluded that our most important contributions to society s
well being depend on the continued pursuit of fundamental truths and basic research. I believe he was
saying that while it is imperative that we remain aware of the needs and demands of our own circle of
influence and generation, truly meaningful service to society comes through our passion for
knowledge and the desire to advance mankind. Alan Turing who was a 1938 graduate of Princeton

The Unity Temple By Frank Lloyd Wright
1st Artwork Unity Temple, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, completed in 1908 Frank Lloyd Wright s
career was just beginning to take off in Oak Park, Illinois. One of the most significant projects from
his early career is Unity Temple near his home and studio in Oak Park. Unity Temple was a
replacement church for Unitarian Universalist Church that had burned down in 1905. Unity Temple
was not just an ordinary commission for Wright since he was a parishioner of the Unitarian Church in
Oak Park. When Unity Church burned to the ground in June 1905, Wright was awarded the
commission. He wanted a modern building that would embody the principles of unity, truth, beauty,
simplicity, freedom and reason. For Wright, the church was meant to be a temple for man to worship
god, which coincided with Wright s decision to abandon the typical New England Unitarian, white
steeple, architectural style for a more modern concrete aesthetic. Also the church s budget was
relatively low for a project of this scale, approximately $40,000. In harmony with Wright s philosophy
of organic architecture, the concrete was left uncovered by plaster, brick, or stone. Wright s sensitive
handling of materials was a defining feature of his architecture from early in his career. Bring out the
nature of the materials, Wright insisted, let their nature intimately into your scheme. Reveal the nature

Surgical Wound Care Case Study
Problem 1
Wound Care
Justification
Dougherty and Lister (2011) stated that it is important to keep post surgical wound free from infection
because the healing of the wound depends on the amount of care being provided. There are potential
complications associated with infected post surgical wound, which includes wound dehiscence,
surgical site infection, and hematomas. These complications often occur within hours after surgery, so
therefore, high priority should be place on wound care for a patient who has had a resection of recto
sigmoid tumor and is left with a laparotomy wound.

Weak Levels of Consistency in Practice
The article describes about the SQL standard levels. SQL means the Standard Query Language. In
SQL different types of queries are being involved and different types of operations are being
performed under it. SQL often means the collection of the large number of tables. SQL Create
statement is used for creating the tables. Basically create statement is used for performing any type of
operation. After creating the table only we can perform any type of operation like insert, update and
delete. An example for create statement is create table customer( customer_id int, customer_name
varchar(50), customer_city varchar(50), salary int);. Here under the customer table we have created
four columns. Customer_id is declared as integer, customer_name and customer city is declared as
varchar, salary is declared as integer. After creating the customer table we can insert values into the
table. The values are being inserted using the insert into statement. The values are inserted into the
customer table like this. Insert into customer values( 1001 , dheeraj , hyderabad , 10000 ). Here in the
above example we have inserted the four values into it. That is 1001 value is being inserted into the
customer_id, dheeraj value is being inserted into the customer_name, hyderabad value is being
inserted into the customer_city, and 10000 value is being inserted into the salary.

Cryptography Is An Indispensable Tool Of Techniques For...
ABSTRACT
Almost in every field including banking and insurance security and privacy have become the essence.
Many people prefer internet banking because of its convenience. The solution to the security issues
require the use of cryptography in which data is being encrypted and converted to cipher text and then
decrypted to original form on reaching the second party. It is an indispensable tool for secured
communication between two parties in the presence of third party. This article attempts to introduce
the various algorithms which can be successfully used to ensure the security in banks. These
algorithms include Shift algorithm, Polyalphabetic Cipher, Affine Cipher, RSA, DSA etc.

MATHEMATICAL CRYPTOLOGY IN BANKING SECTOR
Cryptography is an indispensable tool of techniques for the secured communication between two
parties in the presence of third party. A cryptographic algorithm is a mathematical function for
encryption or decryption where encryption is the process of translating plain text/ data into a random
and meaningless (cipher text) data and decryption is the process of converting cipher text back into
plain text. In most of the cases, two functions are involved, one for encryption and the other for
decryption. It is basically about constructing and analyzing protocols which prevents public from
reading the private messages. It is mostly based on mathematical theory and computer science practice

Gangs and Violence in The Prison System Essay
Gangs and Violence in the Prison System
Introduction
Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today.
Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and
throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise
about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a
large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs
and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future.
History
Prisons began to bulge with gang members when states enacted tougher laws for gang related crime in
the mid to late ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to find a solution for the problem the prison system took and is still taking steps such as
classifying the gang members and other violent inmates as security threat groups (STG s). Both prison
officials and law enforcement agencies refer to gangs as STG s rather than gangs in order to take away
from the assumptions and exposure that the word gang gets. There are several ways of becoming
classified as a security threat group, such as self admission, known gang tattoos, confiscation of STG
paraphernalia, or information provided by an informant acknowledging the inmate as a gang member.
All known security threat groups are kept in single inmate cells known as administration segregation
to separate them from the rest of the inmate population, in hopes of reducing the amount of
communication between gang members and the amount violence. One problem with administration
segregation is a the amount of available space; the number of inmates classified as a security threat
group greatly exceeds the space available thus causing many prisons to keep STG s in the general
inmate population and putting only leaders of the gangs in administration segregation. The simple
decision of allowing the security threat groups to remain in the general inmate population increases
the probability of violence within the prison tremendously. The prisons have also implemented a

Cruise lines accounted for only 5.2% of the $575.2 billion worth of the travel industry in 2014. While
the revenue for cruises has declined in the US, it is growing in Europe and Asia, leading to more
opportunities for Carnival to expand in these regions. Current plans calls to increase berth capacity for
the European market 30% and 20% for the Asian Market by 2016.
Customers in Asia are now looking for luxurious cruises as a vacation option. Disposable income of
the Chinese consumer has grown annually by 10% a year. The total number of passengers sourced
from China had increased steadily in the past few years so the Costa Classica was launched
specifically for this market back in 2010. Carnival is also planning to introduce a new cruise liner
Carnival Vista which will be the largest vessel in the carnival Cruise Lines Fleet by 2016.
Trends have shifted in the cruising industry towards the 45 60 year old age group. As this age group
grows in population, Carnival can take advantage of the economies of scale and offer them the best
prices.

Taxes
Taking advantages of the special tax loopholes Carnival has been avoiding to pay US corporation
taxes, however back in 2009 the US government and the IRS started a movement to close those
loopholes. If these loopholes are closed, it could affect their financial statements and fiscal bottom line
in the future.

Vaccinations Should Not Be A Medical Exemption From...
Vaccinations: The Right to Choose Is requiring vaccinations overstepping the bounds of our right to
make our own medical choices for ourselves as well as for our children? Or, is it safe and necessary
for the greater good to prevent deadly diseases? Are those who choose not to vaccinate themselves or
their children putting the rest of the population at risk? Where should the line, if any, be drawn? Why
are more and more people using exemptions to vaccinations? How safe and effective are vaccinations?
I will share important information on both sides of the issue to help you decide the answers to these
questions. Currently, all fifty U.S. states offer a medical exemption from vaccinations. This means that
someone could be exempt from receiving one or all of the vaccines based on medical necessity. For
example, those who have compromised or weakened immune systems should be able to get a medical
exemption. These exemptions require permission from a medical physician and getting them is
difficult as most doctors in the mainstream medical community support and encourage vaccinations.
There are two other types of exemptions religious and philosophical. As of October 2016, three states
California, West Virginia, and Mississippi do not offer either of these. They are medical exemption
states only. Of the remaining states, 32 of them offer medical and religious exemptions. Only the
remaining 18 states offer all three exemptions. These numbers are decreasing as more and

  • 2. Essay about 1936 Berlin Olympics Maddie World History 4 17 13 http://cache.ultiworld.com/wordpress/wp content/uploads/2012/08/Olympic Rings.png In 1936, the summer Olympics were hosted in Berlin. Hitler was the chancellor of Germany at the time, and the Nazis were in power. Before the Olympics, German Jews had been segregated and discriminated against by Aryan Germans. The 1936 Berlin Olympics were not righteous, fair, or unbiased in any way, shape, or form. Through the Olympics, Hitler spread his anti Semitic views to millions of spectators and athletes that attended the Olympics. The Olympics were an extremely controversial topic at this time, and resulted in many believing in Aryan superiority. Hitler concealed his anti Semitic propaganda, but people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conditions of the Holocaust were evoked by the Olympics because people unknowingly bought into Nazi propaganda because of how Germany hid their harsh, anti Semitic propaganda, and because of how the Olympics were broadcasted around the world. A visitor to Berlin during this time shares their personal experience; We arrived in Berlin Friday evening before the games opened on Saturday. We found Berlin in festive array. The great avenue Unter den Linden, was bordered on either side by the Nazi flags, posters of German towns, loud speakers were spaced all along the broad center parking. xii Upon arrival, tourists saw no direct anti Semitic posters or harsh Nazi propaganda. 2 Germany seemed festive, and Germans innocent they had taken down signs that said things like, Jews not welcome here as to not scare tourists away. xiii On the Olympic sports complex hung both Olympic flags and Swastikas, showing that what the Swastika s stood for and the Olympics were connected. xiv Not only were posters taken down to keep tourists in the dark, but certain laws (specifically, laws against homosexuality) no longer applied to those who were visiting Germany around the time of the Olympics.xv Visitors then had no ... • 3. What Is David Hasselhoff Ever Done David Hasselhoff is one of the most known faces throughout the world for his performance in countless movies over the years. Hasselhoff is most well known from His show Baywatch . He has also starred in Click, Dodge ball, and Fugitives Run to name a few (imdb.com). But, for those who do not know, Hasselhoff was also a singer. This week I decided to do my listening log on Hasselhoff s live performance at the Berlin Wall in 1989. I chose this because it is iconic. Hasselhoff s singing performance at the Berlin Wall is definitely the most significant song performance he had ever done. David Hasselhoff s performance at the Berlin Wall is on video on youtube.com, this is where I watched it. For his performance he sang one of his recorded songs looking for freedom on New Year s eve 1989, just weeks after the wall started being tore down (wikipedia.org). He wore a piano keyed scarf and a light up jacket. His performance was good for the event. He played the part well, being over joyed and enthusiastic as most everyone there in the crowd ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A few weeks later, a German version of the song came out and was performed by Tony Marshall. Both versions were recorded at Hansa Studio 2 in Berlin (wikipedia.org). so that makes three versions of the same song, but hands down Hasselhoff s version was undoubtedly the most significant historically. The song is very upbeat all throughout. Hasselhoff is the leading voice in the song, but you can hear what sounds like a choir joining in with Him at different parts of the song. This song gets you motivated as it repeats the same few words, I ve been looking for freedom. Each time Hasseloff says these words, they come out just as heartfelt and passionate as when he started the song. He was the right choice for this song and moment because of His strong voice and powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Drug Of Drug Testing Welfare Recipients Drug Testing Welfare Recipients To test or not to test has been has been the question at hand for many states that are dealing with whether or not to pass the law that welfare recipients should or should not be drug tested in order to receive assistance from the government. Florida was the first state to mandate the law in 2011 and thereafter twenty four other states in the last year have also passed this law in our own state of Oklahoma being one of them. Although alcohol is legal it is abused far more than marijuana or hard core drugs, According to the 1996 study by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism the differences between the proportion of welfare and non welfare recipients using illegal drugs are statistically insignificant. Although some states have decided to pass the law for welfare recipients in order receive government assistance, I believe it s ineffective to drug test these welfare recipients in order to receive their benefits. Welfare in the United States commonly refers to the federal government welfare programs that have been put in place to assist the unemployed or underemployed. Help is extended to the poor through a variety of government welfare programs that include the Women, Infants, and Children Program, which is referred to as WIC, Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families commonly known as TANF and Aid to Families with Dependent Children. Individuals such as university or high school students are, at one point or another in their studies, faced with the task of having to write a technical report that involves a research (specifically focused on existing material). There is an abundance of information available in the world today, which covers a vast amount of fields and all this information is readily available to the public but it is often unclear to these students that all the information available may not always be credible and actually reliable or even true. The negligence of these students often results in non factual research papers that are poorly written up. The failure to check for reliable sources may lead to inadvertent plagiarism too. This report focuses on what makes sources of information more reliable and credible than others, with a specific focus on research reports. Readers seek sources of information that is trustworthy. That the creator, author or researcher s ideas are their own is substantiated mainly by evidence. When given the task to have a research report written up, it usually entails doing research and finding information created by others, this being the case, it is imperative that credible information should be used. Remember that if your audience has found the source you have cited from as a non credible source it could result in the relationship between you and your audience to suffer. • 9. The First Invention Of Radiology The first invention of radiology began with the creation of X rays in 1895 when Wilhelm Roentgen, a 50 year old professor of physics at Germany s University of Wurzburg, made a discovery that would in a very short time change medical and human history. Though, discovered by accident, Roentgen s discovery would help detect tumors, broken bones and bullets buried within bodies, never before seen with the naked eye. Since the invention of X rays, there had been numerous discoveries of similar inventions, from image intensifier to ultrasound to magnetic resonance imaging. Without these inventions, humans would not have been able to see the inner workings of the body or detect key information in modern times that allow us to prevent serious illnesses where other inventions proved useless since imaging plays a huge role in diagnosis. In current society, radiology s first creation has been exposed to most citizens, whether it is to detect a broken bone at the doctor s or to determine a person s risk of getting cavities at the dentist s. Although, inventions from radiology does hold risks of radiation exposure amongst its patients, the benefits of them greatly outweighs its risks. Before the development and research of radiology, life was simplistic with little knowledge of observing the internal organs of a person. If a patient was shot, doctors had to, literally, poke around their patient s organs with their fingers or use electrical induction machine to send sound waves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of The Movie Miracle On Ice By Gavin O Conner Every hockey player has heard the soundbite of Al Michaels shouting Do you believe in Miracles? Yes! after the 1980 American team took down the international powerhouse of the Soviet Union. During a time of uneasiness and frustration towards the current political climate, the young American hockey team gave the public something to be proud about. A true miracle on ice gave the country a strong presence within the hockey world. Going into the game against the Soviets in the semifinals of the 1980 Olympic games, Herb Brooks gave one of the most inspirational speeches known to date. This speech was portrayed word for word in the Disney film, Miracle, released in 2004 directed by Gavin O Conner. Although Herb Brooks rhetoric sounds as if he is referencing the Cold War, that did not seem to be the case. Herb s rhetoric seemed to be solely hockey driven: his significant playing and coaching career as well as his astonishing dedication to the game uncover his motivation prior to the miracle game. Close analysis and research reveals Herb and his players have rejected many attempts of being used as a political pawn after defeating Russia in the miracle on ice. This victory indeed boosted the nation s spirits regarding the war, but the game had little to no impact on the outcome between the two governments. The scene starts with the young American squad sits quietly around the dressing room knowing they are the underdog and may be playing the last game of their Olympic career. ... • 14. Vodka Memories of My Past I have come to the conclusion that the past, which is merciless and perilous, is a foreign country, and it cannot be altered. The past lives differently from the present, just as the future will live differently from the very moment you begin to breathe air. Yet somewhere in the back of my mind is this obsession. Whether this obsession has been drawn from the idea that my future will stay the same as this exact moment is speculation, which I shall ignore till the day I die. The other day I was looking at a ship, now in dreams ships can be glorious and beautiful or they can hold every shattered dream. You can watch them sail away with distain, or pleasure. It s been long told that if you see a ship in the distance, all of your dreams and aspirations sit staring back at you. But the ships already gone you can t chase those dreams as you can in the movies, when the girl runs after the train, praying that the man will see and get off. I have a single packet of cigarettes, sitting in the middle of an empty room. Yes, they are for emergencies. That one moment that I feel myself break and I mean truly break, I shall rush to this room, and smoke a single, savoured cigarette that will clear all my urges. That single cigarette is my fresh start, turning over the page, and getting ready to stain the whiteness with a tea stain, ringing the corner, and destroying the purity. • 15. Guantanamo Bay Torture Is waterboarding suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay justifiable in order to save American lives? For years since the attacks on 9/11, prisoners suspected of terrorist actions have been treated poorly and taken to bases like Guantanamo Bay where they are interrogated and abused past levels of legality. This is upsetting how the United States government tortures people only suspected of terrorist activity. There have been many incidents where innocent people were accused of terrorist activity and harassed. After the bombing of the Boston Marathon, three innocent muslim men were put in custody to answer some questions on the bombing (Friedersdorf). Shane shows how the CIA justifies torture by saying that it prevents mass murders of the American public. In a hypothetical situation, there are many lives at risk and there is a potential culprit, it is logical to put that person through a near death experience to save lives. It may not be morally right but the C.I.A. isn t worried about morals as much as American lives. Shane applies the logic to how during World War II, Japanese were put in concentration camps for safe measure. • 16. Use Of Similes In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar One often hears the saying, Don t judge a man until you have walked a mile in their shoes. The way an author uses similes can help the reader better understand how the character feel and what they re going through like Sylvia Plath in The Bell Jar. Esther Greenwood, a college student, working at a month long job as a guest editor for a fashion magazine feels like an outcast from the rest of the girls; she doesn t seem to fit in. When she arrives back home, she receives several bad news leads her into thinking suicide is the best thing to do. After multiple failed attempts, she is put into a mental hospital where she will gain hope in life and finally discover who she really is. In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, there are several instances in which the author uses similes to illustrate a more detailed image/description to better portray how the main character felt during her New York job, her suicide attempts, and at her stay at the mental institution. During The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath used similes to highlight Esther s characteristic of a wallflower during her trip to New York. After Frankie, one of Lenny s friend abandones Esther, he is forced to take her and Doreen to his apartment. Lenny obviously wanting privacy with Doreen he asks her to go but Doreen defends Esther and says she will only go with the do any of her friend. From there on, Esther feels unwanted and ignored while she spends time at Lenny s place. Plath describes Esther s abandonment while Lenny and Doreen dance, I felt myself shrinking to a small black dot against all those red and white rugs and that pine paneling. I felt like a hole in the ground (Plath 16). Esther feels left out while her best friend and a stranger dance. The simile expresses how she felt invisible and ignored. The author tries to relate to the reader who once in their life may have felt outcastes or left out. Esther has a tendency to feel terrible about herself. From the beginning of the story, she explains how she feels different and not in the right place. The author wrote, The city had faded my tan, though. I looked yellow as a Chinaman. Ordinarily, I would have been nervous a about my dress and my odd color, but being with Doreen made me forget my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. A Lost Lady By Willa Cather The setting of A Lost Lady is the beautiful prairies and flyover regions of the United States. These open areas of rolling hills, grasslands, and wildflowers are often overlooked, but are none the less a pleasant view, as well as an important part of America s history. Another aspect of America s history that is often overlooked, but not as pleasant, is the idea of gender roles and the objectification of women. In Willa Cather s A Lost Lady, Mrs. Forrester is able to break through and overcome such objectivity that her husband, Captain Forrester, and her younger friend, Niel Herbert have placed on her. To fully grasp Marian Forrester s breakthrough of female objectivity, it is important to understand how her husband objectified her throughout the novel. First, the Forresters are prominent figures in their society and are viewed as a high class family because of his work on the railroads and for his beautiful wife. Being so well respected, Captain Forrester often had company and visitors to his house for dinner or other gatherings. During such events, Marian Forrester s sole role was to greet those visitors. This is an example of Captain Forrester s objectification because it gratified him [Captain Forrester] to see men who were older than himself leap nimbly to the ground and run up the front steps as Mrs. Forrester came out on the porch to greet them (Cather 10). The quote from the novel expains that many men were impressed or infatuated with Marian s physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, this observation involved analyzing to what affect some of the mechanical energy was lost or dissipated into other forms of energy, despite the experiment s attempt to minimize the dissipation of the energy as much as possible. The first part of the experiment involved calculating the spring force constant (k) of the harmonic oscillator. In the example above, the 27th tooth is being used as the equilibrium position; however, for this experiment, the 31st tooth was used as the equilibrium position, or rather the position with zero displacement. In addition, the photogate sensor was placed just to the right of the 31st tooth, as to begin in the unblocked position. Therefore to start the experiment, the comb was to be pulled to the right, just beyond the photogate sensor, and the motion would be directed to the left. When the photogate comb was released, the times were recorded at the intervals when the comb teeth blocked the photogate sensor. For example, the time that corresponds to the 31st tooth would represent the position x=0 m, while the time corresponding to when the first tooth blocked the sensor represented a position of x= 0.12 m. Therefore, 61 times were recorded, and the times stopped just before the comb was to reverse its motion, or in other words, a half oscillation of the harmonic oscillator. • 23. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Boomers Communication Weaknesses Boomers Each generation s weakness is a subset of their communication preferences and strengths. Boomers preferred method of communication necessitates multiple meetings, which can be rather time consuming for other employees of a company. Boomers have also grown accustomed to email, and are less likely to keep up with current technology trends. As of January 2017, new trends have signaled the decline of email in the workplace, according to Laurie Beaver of Business Intelligence: informal and engaging social networking apps are convenient, easy to use, and fast (2017). They may also take longer to get feedback to people, because it is in their nature to take their time to provide thorough and complete feedback. With older methods of communication on the decline, and new technologies emerging, Boomers need to avoid the obsolescence of their current skill set by following new trends in information technologies. Gen X Again, this generation inhabits a space between two very different generations, one which moves at a steady pace, and one which constantly adjusts to the newest trends. Gen X lies somewhere in the middle, where they rely on techniques they re comfortable with, without growing complacent. Members of Generation X, according to De La Torre, grew up more skeptical of authority and rules, placing high value on independence and flexibility (De La Torre, 2016). Communication with Gen Xers needs to focus on meeting that preference, otherwise it will be inefficient. Work tends to run on their own schedule, which can slow down internal processes and result in conservative deadlines to allow scheduling discrepancies (Perine, 2012). Efficient time use both complements and conflicts with setting a schedule independently: when focused, Gen Xers can increase productivity and accomplish high volumes of work; when distracted, they inhibit their teams and decrease overall productivity. Consequent upon the above stated, it becomes shocking to find out that there is a significant tendency among film scholars to treat films as the product of a single individual. To toe this line of interpretation goes to mean that the director of the film is the creative intelligence who shapes the entire film in a manner parallel to how we think of literary works being authored. Their age, mean FEV, and smoking history were all accounted and controlled for (Smith, et al, 2006). Methods used involved a cough challenge test, sound recordings of their cough day and night, and a questionnaire that involved their perceived quality of life (Smith, et al, 2006). The coughs were actually manually counted and then translated to coughs per hour. The cough seconds per hour was quantified based on the number of seconds in each recorded hour that contained a cough. The overall median time that was spent coughing was calculated to be 7.5 cough seconds for every hour, although this lessened considerably at night (Smith, et al, 2006). The subjective cough scores were taken into account and compared with the actual cough seconds per hour. It was found that the study participants often thought that they spent more time coughing than what the data indicated to b accurate (Smith, et al, 2006). By looking at the statistical data used (median cough seconds per hour), it can be seen that people with COPD do not (on average) spend that many seconds per hour coughing. However, because of the disruptive nature of coughing repeatedly throughout that hour, these individuals often think they spend much more time coughing than they actually do (Smith, et al, 2006). In the speech given by Woodrow Wilson on the 150th anniversary of Princeton University, what was to become the unofficial motto, Princeton in the Nation s Service and in the Service of All Nations, was first recited. In that address, Wilson concluded that our most important contributions to society s well being depend on the continued pursuit of fundamental truths and basic research. I believe he was saying that while it is imperative that we remain aware of the needs and demands of our own circle of influence and generation, truly meaningful service to society comes through our passion for knowledge and the desire to advance mankind. Alan Turing who was a 1938 graduate of Princeton University, Computer Scientist and Cryptanalyst and Father of Artificial Intelligence embodied this motto. Alan Turing was a mathematical genius and inspirational visionary, famous today for his code breaking work during World War II that saved the allies from the Nazis. His study of mathematical logic eventually led to the birth of the field of computer science. • 38. The Unity Temple By Frank Lloyd Wright 1st Artwork Unity Temple, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, completed in 1908 Frank Lloyd Wright s career was just beginning to take off in Oak Park, Illinois. One of the most significant projects from his early career is Unity Temple near his home and studio in Oak Park. Unity Temple was a replacement church for Unitarian Universalist Church that had burned down in 1905. Unity Temple was not just an ordinary commission for Wright since he was a parishioner of the Unitarian Church in Oak Park. When Unity Church burned to the ground in June 1905, Wright was awarded the commission. He wanted a modern building that would embody the principles of unity, truth, beauty, simplicity, freedom and reason. For Wright, the church was meant to be a temple for man to worship god, which coincided with Wright s decision to abandon the typical New England Unitarian, white steeple, architectural style for a more modern concrete aesthetic. Also the church s budget was relatively low for a project of this scale, approximately $40,000. In harmony with Wright s philosophy of organic architecture, the concrete was left uncovered by plaster, brick, or stone. Wright s sensitive handling of materials was a defining feature of his architecture from early in his career. Bring out the nature of the materials, Wright insisted, let their nature intimately into your scheme. Reveal the nature of wood, plaster, brick, or stone in your designs, they are all by nature friendly and beautiful. No ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The PoisonWood Bible introduces a character by the name of Adah Price. This character symbolizes difference, bravery and passion. Barbara Kingsolver uses these characteristics to develop the character. In the beginning, Adah Price is introduced with a condition called hemiplegia. The paralyzation of one side of the body. She is the only one of the family to have an abnormal condition. Not only does this makes her different from the rest of her family, but her challenges more challenging. Having hemiplegia is not the only thing that makes Adah different. She is the smartest and most analytical of her family. Although, anyone else around her would not know that because she chooses not to speak but to think instead. Thinking allows her to observe her surroundings and see what others might miss. And so the Price family passes its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are potential complications associated with infected post surgical wound, which includes wound dehiscence, surgical site infection, and hematomas. These complications often occur within hours after surgery, so therefore, high priority should be place on wound care for a patient who has had a resection of recto sigmoid tumor and is left with a laparotomy wound. An example for create statement is create table customer( customer_id int, customer_name varchar(50), customer_city varchar(50), salary int);. Here under the customer table we have created four columns. Customer_id is declared as integer, customer_name and customer city is declared as varchar, salary is declared as integer. After creating the customer table we can insert values into the table. The values are being inserted using the insert into statement. The values are inserted into the customer table like this. Insert into customer values( 1001 , dheeraj , hyderabad , 10000 ). Here in the above example we have inserted the four values into it. Gang affiliated inmates comprise about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. In order to find a solution for the problem the prison system took and is still taking steps such as classifying the gang members and other violent inmates as security threat groups (STG s). Both prison officials and law enforcement agencies refer to gangs as STG s rather than gangs in order to take away from the assumptions and exposure that the word gang gets. There are several ways of becoming classified as a security threat group, such as self admission, known gang tattoos, confiscation of STG paraphernalia, or information provided by an informant acknowledging the inmate as a gang member. All known security threat groups are kept in single inmate cells known as administration segregation to separate them from the rest of the inmate population, in hopes of reducing the amount of communication between gang members and the amount violence. One problem with administration segregation is a the amount of available space; the number of inmates classified as a security threat group greatly exceeds the space available thus causing many prisons to keep STG s in the general inmate population and putting only leaders of the gangs in administration segregation. The simple decision of allowing the security threat groups to remain in the general inmate population increases the probability of violence within the prison tremendously. The prisons have also implemented a graduate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Vaccinations Should Not Be A Medical Exemption From... Vaccinations: The Right to Choose Is requiring vaccinations overstepping the bounds of our right to make our own medical choices for ourselves as well as for our children? Or, is it safe and necessary for the greater good to prevent deadly diseases? Are those who choose not to vaccinate themselves or their children putting the rest of the population at risk? Where should the line, if any, be drawn? Why are more and more people using exemptions to vaccinations? How safe and effective are vaccinations? I will share important information on both sides of the issue to help you decide the answers to these questions. Currently, all fifty U.S. states offer a medical exemption from vaccinations. This means that someone could be exempt from receiving one or all of the vaccines based on medical necessity. For example, those who have compromised or weakened immune systems should be able to get a medical exemption. These exemptions require permission from a medical physician and getting them is difficult as most doctors in the mainstream medical community support and encourage vaccinations. There are two other types of exemptions religious and philosophical. As of October 2016, three states California, West Virginia, and Mississippi do not offer either of these. They are medical exemption states only. Of the remaining states, 32 of them offer medical and religious exemptions. Only the remaining 18 states offer all three exemptions.
