Economic Impact of Tourism on the Pacific Rim Essay
Economic Impact of Tourism on the Pacific Rim
Introduction
The Pacific Rim is a grouping of countries in the Pacific Ocean[1] that start from the Korean
peninsula down through south East Asia. Some of the common countries in this region are;
Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei.
The current economic situation has been gleam with poor performance from the main economic
activity agriculture. To alleviate the situation we must look at tourismas a way of sustaining
recommended economic growth.
The Pacific Rim has a rich relationship with the tourism industry, with people all over the world

To maximise foreign exchange earnings efficiency, countries where imports are attained from
should be targeted for tourism promotion, so as to allow influx of there currency. E.g. if most of
the mechanical imports come from Switzerland the government usually has to source Swiss Francs.
This can be done by targeting Swiss tourists.
Rise in Gross National Product
Tourism is an economic activity that provides to the GNP and per capita income of a country. In
countries with rich tourist history it could provide up to 25% of the local economy.
In 1994 Korea[3] for instance set up a successful 5 year plan that help them achieve a U.S $ 500
million income from tourism this target was shifted to US $ 10 Billion for the year 2000.(ref)
Increased revenue for the government
Government income rises in form of taxes; this could range from a multiple of options;
Visa fees; this is fee issued to passport holders of all or select countries to gain entrance into the
country. This can income can be sort after at the entry port i.e. airports, harbour docks or
International rail stations or at the Countries embassy/Consulate/ High commission in the country
of tourist origin.
The visa fees are usually categorised by the duration of stay, the frequency of return trips and reason
for entry.[4]

The Inequality Of The American Dream
The American Dream is the idea that any American can raise their socioeconomic status through
hard work . However, for many Americans, that dream has become impossible. Due to economic
hardship, many Americans are struggling to simply provide food for their families. Upward
mobility seems elusive. Despite the fact that some believe the American Dream is still a reality, due
to poor education, unemployment, economic downturn, and economic inequality the American
Dream has become unattainable for most lower and middle class Americans. America has a
massive wealth gap. According to Chris Matthews at Fortune, in America, the wealthiest 160,000
families own as much wealth as the poorest 145 million families. Those rich families can afford to...

Simply put, college graduates are having a hard time finding jobs, and without a well paying job it
is impossible to raise one s economic status in America. When an American graduates from college,
there is a good chance that they will not be able to find employment. This is no surprise, since the
Great Recession and its aftermath is the longest, most severe period of economic weakness in more
than seven decades (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). Economic downturn means fewer available jobs,
especially for those who are just entering the market, as most graduates are. According to the
Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for college graduates is 7.2 percent and the
underemployment rate (the unemployment rate combined with the rate of people currently
employed part time but seeking full time work) is 14.9 percent. Due to the poor economic situation
in America, many graduates are unable to take the two main paths receiving further education or
getting more work experience that enable future career success (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). How
are young Americans to attain the American Dream without a successful

How Did Flappers Change The View Of Women During The 1920 S
How did Flappers change the view of women in the 1920 s Before flappers came along women
were very modest. They were brought up to be lady like and did not even date men unless their
parents came along. They would wear clothes that were long and fancy and would cover their
bodies head to toe, because they were not allowed to even show their ankles. Flappers went against
all theses customs. Their irresponsible actions included: around kissing men, dancing on men
provocatively, and just not caring about what the rules were. Women had limited freedom in the
1900s until the Flappers came along and changed many things for women through the way they
dressed and acted, creating the New Womanor the 1920s. The Flappers started a... Show more

It was very popular to be a flapper. That was the cool thing to do and people saw flappers as these
New Women. The older women would never personify a lifestyle condemned by conservatives
as undermining morality and religion especially through the way the acted and dressed. People
did not like the flappers dresses. They emphatically rejected the style beginning in the 1920s
because it did not show the curves of the female body. Their dress was a boxy shape that hung
straight from the shoulders and fell in an unbroken line just below the knees. This type of dress
looked best on flat chested, small hipped androgyne who has come to typify the freewheeling,
emancipated, working Mew Woman of the world. Women were no longer constrained by corsets
and long skirts, nor by the discomfort and time it took to dress oneself in such styles. Their
dresses had a loose cut and shirt hemline [which] allowed women unprecedented freedom of
movement. Their freedom of movement allowed them more room to dance up closely to men and
change the thoughts on women. (Makela) Life was not easy for Flappers. The women known as
flappers, were associated with the middle, especially upper middle

Pros Of Confederate Statues
Well i believe confederate statues should be removed the reason being is because one of main
things these statues are causing is well controversy between two groups of people. The first group
being those who believe they should not be removed and the second being those who believe they
should be removed. Personally I think this is something which people shouldn t be stressing about
or getting mad over. Because they re just statues yes i am aware that these statues have been put up
in memory of our history, and I respect that but removing these monuments will just end it all, all
the problems being caused, all everything. One of the reasons why i belive this is confederate
monuments belong in museums not in public places this supports

Belonging To A Community Analysis
Belonging to a community is one of the greatest achievements an individual can look forward to. In
a scholar community, there is always a way to contribute and be involved within the community
itself.
To begin, one can give money as a form of contribution, however, giving time is best. I would
contribute most of my time to the scholar community by doing community service. Due to my
contribution in my own community, I have the experience to help others, whether it be organizing
a school event, class work, or giving food samples. Helping someone is one of the ways I present
myself to others. In addition, I would enjoy giving tours about campus to visitors or to the
upcoming Freshman class that way I can familiarize myself with the younger class

My droid comes out of its charging station and scans my face pattern to identify the correct

Because of my programming background I am able to understand that without the proper

The intent of this lab is to observe the relationship between the muscles and neurons that generate
movement throughout the body. We will interpret four (4) different simulations that initiate a
stimulus varying in intensity, frequency, and weight, while recording its influence on muscle
contractions. The goal of this experiment is to have an enhanced comprehension muscle

Materials and Methods:
The equipment used for all four activities include an intact skeletal muscle, electrical stimulator,
mounting stand, and oscilloscope. Please note that the mounting stand includes a force transducer

increases the latent period would increase, the shortening velocity would decrease, the distance will
decrease, and the contraction duration will decrease. The latent period is the period time that
elapses between the generation of an action potential in a muscle cell to the start of a muscle
contraction. It becomes longer as the load becomes heavier due to a rise in muscle tension but no
movement or contraction of the muscle. Once the muscle tension surpasses the weight of the load
an isotonic concentric contraction, or the shortening of muscles to move the load, commences. The
shortening velocity is the speed of the contraction from the muscle shortening while lifting a load.
Maximal shortening velocity is reached with a minimal load. With a light load, the shortening
velocity is at its maximal shortening velocity; inversely, when the weight is heavy the speed in
which the muscle lifts the weight decreases in speed at a slower velocity, as shown in Fig.

Motives For Colonization In New England And Chesapeake...
New England and the Chesapeake Region were both settled primarily by people of English origin,
however, by 1700 they had both transformed into two unique societies. This is because their
motives for colonization, their geographies, and their governments were all different. For example,
the New England colonies typically had much harsher winters than the Chesapeake region and their
people came to America to escape religious persecutionin their mother country. On the other hand,
the people of the Chesapeake region experienced warmer summers and came there in search of
gold. As previously stated, different motives for colonization were partially responsible for
transforming the New Englandand Chesapeake regions into two unique societies. The New England
colonies were formed for religious reasons whereas the colonies of the Chesapeake region were
formed for economic purposes. To emphasize, the people that settled in the New England colonies
had been previously punished by their king, Henry VIII, for being non anglican and in turn they
left the church of England for the Netherlands (they became known as separatists due to how they
separated themselves from the Church). The Netherlands didn t happen to work out for the
separatists, so they went to the New World and settled in the New England region. Based on this, it
could also be said that the separatists were seeking permanent settlement (as they wanted to escape
religious persecution) whereas those in the Chesapeake region

The Goal Eli Goldratt Summary
The Goal: A Process of on going Improvement (Summary)
Alex Rogo is the plant manager of Unico s Bearington plant. Clearly he has problems in his plant
as is evident in the surprise visit he got from the vice president of his division, Bill Peach. Peach
came to expedite an order (No. 41427), which he wanted to be shipped that day. Alex is given three
months to turn around his unprofitable plant or else face a shut down.
The order is shipped at the end of the day, although there was a breakdown of a machine and the
plant operated beneath efficiency. All workers were pulled from other jobs just to work on a
single order. Some even had to carry machine parts by hand to the point of assembly. Alex is
concerned that his plant does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were surprised that everything explained to them was done in terms of money. Throughput for
instance was the money coming into the system, operational expense the money going out and
inventory the money within the system. The production manager is surprised that everything can
be measured in terms of money. The inventory manager compares inventory to investment. Finally
they are all convinced by Alex s explanation and decide to call Jonah for further help.
Alex meets Jonah briefly in New York the following day. Alex discusses the problems he is
experiencing at the plant with Jonah, about how long he has to turn the plant around. Jonah says
he doesn t have the time to solve the problem but that with diligence, Alex and his team should be
able to. He asks Alex to forget about the robots and came up with a better definition of efficiency
than is presently used at the plant. Jonah told Alex that a plant in which everyone was working all
the time was inefficient. Jonah also dispels Alex s idea of a balanced plant being a good one. He
said the trimming of capacity to demand is not good for a plant as it reduces throughput and
inventory piles up. Jonah gives Alex something to think about What happens when dependent
events are in combination with statistical fluctuations?
Through a Boy Scout camping trip with his son s group, Alex is able to figure out Jonah s puzzle.

Stevens Johnson syndrome Stevens Johnson syndrome (erythema multiforme) is an acute
inflammatory polymorphic disease affecting skin and mucous membranes. All ages may be
affected, and the incidence is equal in both sexes. This is a severe disease with a 5% 15% mortality
rate. Ocular involvement, which occurs in as many as half of patients, varies from a mild
mucopurulent conjunctivitis to severe perforating corneal ulcers. Blindness occasionally occurs in
patients with severe late phase corneal complications, such as ulceration, vascularization, and
perforation. Stevens Johnson syndrome has been associated with various bacterial, viral, mycotic,
and protozoal infections. Vaccines, collagen diseases, and many drugs have also been implicated...

develop. In severe cases, a membranous or pseudomembranous conjunctivitis may result from
coalescence of fibrin and necrotic cellular debris. Symblepharon formation may occur with severe
pseudomembranous conjunctivitis. Primary corneal involvement and iritis are rare ocular

How Photography Affects The Social And Political Arena
Photography had been around more than 20 years before the Civil War began. When pictures were
taken, they showed colonels, bodies that were on the battlefield, even soldiers that were around the
camp tent. A few photographers that will be discussed are Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner,
George Barnard and Timothy O Sullivan. I will talk about how their photographyaffected the social
and political arena as well as how photography in contemporary society provides the public with an
up close testimony to recent wars and global strife.
Mathew Brady stated, My greatest aim has been to advance the art of photography and to make it
what I think I have, a great and truthful medium of history. (Keya Morgan, 2004). Mathew Brady

In the social arena, Mathew Brady photographed people bringing them into his photography studio
and they were connected, for example, that is where Mathew Brady met his wife Juliette Handy.
Alexander Gardner worked for Mathew Brady as his assistant photographer. Although it was Brady
s name on most of the photographs, it was Gardner that took the photographs. When the Civil War
started, portrait photography s demand increased. Soldiers wanted to leave photographs and images
behind with their loved ones as they posed before going to war. (Group of officers at Headquarters
Army of Potomac, ppmsca 34178 http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/ppmsca.34178)
Alexander Gardner was more so known for his photographs of scenery instead of the troops. While
he worked with Mathew Brady that was his focus, but once he departed from Mathew, Alexander
began taking photographs of the scenes.
Other photographers took pictures of the troops and men during the Peninsula Campaign in
Virginia, but it was Alexander Gardner that took them of the scenery; which is how he affected
the political arena. He showed a difference in campaigning. His photography affected the social
arena by using the camera differently and started something new, instead of taking one photo at a
time, he took four. Before Gardner died he said, It is designed to speak for itself. As mementos of

Reading, Driving While Stupid, By Dave Barry
Final Paper After reading Driving While Stupid, by Dave Barry, he tells us about some of his
experience with seeing bad drivers. Barry uses many old experiences while being in Miami,
China, Boston, and Argentina. I agree with this statement because in almost every city I been in
the driving was terrible. Everyone, in some way or another, has witnessed people drive very
stupid and reckless. Barry indicated that some drivers use insane driving techniques. These include
driving very fast, failure of the utilization of headlights at night, and having distractions for the
view of the drivers. He says that the drivers do not have a sequence for navigation since some are
involved in phone calls, eating, reading, changing CDs, crowd surface makeup, etc. This is a
common thing for teens and even adults to be distracted behind the wheel. He drove through
various cities where the trafficlaws are constantly being violated. For example, has only one traffic
law, which is No driver may ever be behind any other driver. In his opinion, Miami drivers are the
worst drivers that he has ever witness because of the guy who was driving on 1 95. He was
watching videos on his phone and was clearly not paying attention to the road or any other drivers.
This does not only affect him but also the other people around him. He was not be cautious of the
road and putting his and others lives in danger.

We often don t notice how our mistakes, however slight or dire they may seem, impact the world
and people around us. In the story, A Midsummer s Night Dream, William Shakespeare shows us
how a small fault can cause many issues. Sometimes, the smallest mistake can have many
consequences. At the beginning of the night, Robin is told to put a love potion in the eyes of the
Athenian man. On page fifty eight, after finding Lysander and Hermia, Robin says: Night and
silence! Who is there? Weeds of Athens he doth wear. This is he, my master said, despised the
Athenian maid. (Shakespeare 2.2.76 79) He places the love potion in the eyes of Lysander, unaware
of his mistake between the two Athenian couples. After waking, the first person Lysander

7 Layers Of The OSI Model
OSI Layers The OSI model shows how the hardware and software function together in order to
enable communication between the computers. The OSI model is basically a framework of how
the device operate on the network. Assume that user A sends data to user B through internet, the
data has to travel the network to reach user B computer. During the data transfer, the data has to

The Creation Is A Monster
1.Look up the word monster in multiple dictionaries in order to get a full understanding of what the
word means. Discuss in both literal and figurative terms whether the Creation is a monster.
The word monster means a being of unnatural size with unnatural features that is sometimes
imaginary and often causes fear due to wickedness, ugliness, and cruelty. In literal terms, the
Creation is a monster. Based on the definition, he is of unnatural size and features as the Creation
is characterized by its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect (50). Further, people fear
the Creation due to his deformity as stated the unnatural hideousness of [his] person was the chief
object of horror with those who had formerly beheld [him]) (94). In further explanation, the
Creation can also be considered monstrous because he was responsible for the death of many
people such as William, Justine, and Henry. In figurative terms, however, the Creation is not
entirely a monster. Though he did intend to cause harm as he declares war against humans (97),
much of his spite a cruelty spurs from his lack of maturity and the environments he was faced
with. The Creation came into the world and was immediately faced with rejection. His own creator

In 1995, The People of the State of California vs. Orenthal James Simpson, became the most
publicized murder case in history (Price Lovitt, 1997). From the very beginning, it seemed that the
prosecution s case against O. J. Simpson for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle

The sock was important because it appeared to have blood stains on it. For the prosecution s case
against Simpson, they had the blood stains analyzed by the Department of Justice serologist
Gary Sims. He testified in the case that the blood found on the socks were what he considered to
be spatter stains or something along those lines (Walraven, 1995). The blood was tested and was
found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this
evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood
stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that
the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place.
Based on his experience in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis, he was able to present an
argument that the blood stain was a result of a compression transfer (Walraven, 1995), rather
than blood spatter, as the prosecution suggested. The compression transfer is said to be the
result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it
from the surface of the sock. The amount of blood present on one particular portion of the sock
was also inconsistent with what you would find if spatter had occurred. Additionally, based on
an identical spot of blood forming on the opposite side of the sock from, it was argued that the
blood could have only come in contact with the sock while it was not being worn and in a
relatively flat position. The theory of the sock was that the blood was planted on it, and that could
have only have happened if it was not being worn at the time of the

better at high jump was play basketball; he would dribble around, shoot around, go into layups
and then try to dunk over and over so he could get the feel and rhythm of the high jump. Ashton
Eaton used to train at least five hours a day, but now it s more like three or four hours and the
quality of the workout is way better then college. He says, Spending less total time training but
really making it count is a smart way to improve. It s also easier on your body in the long run.

United States Involvement In Vietnam
During the war people could see a possible communist victory. So, the US decided to get involved.
Before they were fulling engaged, some US troops were serving as advisers and were sending
equipment to South Vietnam. I believe the United States involvement wasn t justified for many
reasons.
In 1964, the United States congress allowed the US to enter into the war in Vietnam. By 1965 more
than 180,000 US troops were in fighting and planes began to bomb North Vietnam. We had the
most advanced army in the world. We had multiple strategies. We began fighting guerrilla warfare in
the unfamiliar terrain. Then later, the US turned to air power when the nations couldn t defend
themselves on the ground any longer. We began bombing farmlands, forests,

Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history.
To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub
sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century
agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new
knowledge, and farming s influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth
century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I
end my paper with a third section that offers research questions that could be answered in

Professional Athletes Overpaid
In my opinion, actors/actresses and professional athletes are not overpaid. Their average in
come is actually middle to low, the highest making performers and athletes are quite few, and we
have a very skewed perception due to the media we are exposed to. The average income for
professional athletes and performers are surprisingly low. It is not the glamorous millions we are
lead to believe. It is more near the forty thousand dollars annually for an athlete and an actor,
which is far away from millions. When compared to the average salaries of Engineers and
computer scientist which is over seventy thousand these actors and athletes don t seem overpaid at
all. However, there are always extremities in every field, but those extremities are

Thomas Hart Benton s Impact On The Regionalist Movement Art
Thomas Hart Benton was a muralist and an American painter. He had focus on the Regionalist
movement art along with Grant and John Curry. Thomas Benton has had a great impact on the
color, the resonant ideas and exuberance. Benton identified different diverse ideas of contradiction:
the rituals and the urban, freedom, oppression, the poor, rich labor and entertainment (Marling,
1982). As Muraldeveloped the ideas, he span two epochs on the excess of Jazz Age and bitter side
of depression in the country. This was expressed in the art work that he presented in the
Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The painting was done 1930 to 1931 which was paced on the New School board room from social
research in the city of New York. This painting attracted attention and was bought by Equitable Life
then later to Metropolitan Museum as an exhibit. Benton developed 10 panels of which a lot of
them were 7.5 feet in height and 9 feet in width. The painting was in egg tempera having an oil
glaze, strong attractive colors, wide modulation and a very much gleaming surfaces (Benton, 1983).
The painting had an aluminum frame, with complexity in mounding and curves in the right angles
that showed the vignettes in the panel and addition of emphatic strength (Dennis,1998). The
paining showed changes in activities in the production of corn that was juxtaposed with clearing of
the land for the activities. The clearing utilized a saw with lance teeth. Like the doubled edged

The War Of The Great Depression
The post 1945 period was an interesting time to live in America. It is during this period that the
American dream became a reality for most Americans. Years of intensive wartime sacrifice were
over and gone was the poverty borne out of the Great Depression. The American dream was
being redefined and here stood a chance to own a house in your own land, a car and a dog.
Families that had put on hold getting another child finally put away their worries and the country
experienced a post war baby boom. Despite all the positives, it was also during this period that
racial fears were ripe. This coupled with the desire to vacate the decaying cities is what prompted a
huge number of white Americans to move to the suburbia area.
Within a very short time, suburbs had become very popular and they created an illusion of a
perfect traditional family. They became the latest glamorous countryside and every rich individual
wanted to be part of this perfection. There was however difficulties that was experienced in the
suburbs as a swelling population was experienced. The three novels White house, Revolutionary
road and parts of Mrs. Browns The hours all show the plight of Suburban American both in comic
and tragic lights. In Revolutionary road, there is possibly no other novel that perfectly captures the
uneasiness of the middle class American Suburban Community in the post war period. The book
shows what it is like to try and lead a revolutionary life in the American suburb. During the

The Watergate Scandal Watergate is the popular name for the political scandal and constitutional
crisis that began with the arrest of five burglars who broke into the Democratic National Committee
headquarters at the Watergate office in Washington D.C. on the night of June 17, 1972. It ended
with the resignation of president Richard M. Nixon. The burglars and two co potters G. Gordon

Amid increasing disclosures of White House involved in the Watergate break in and its
aftermath, Nixon announced the resignations of John Ehrlichman and H. R. Haldman, two of his
closest advisers, in the dismissal of his counsel John W. Dean III. Growing suspicion of
presidential involvement in the scandel resulted in an intensification of the investigation. Leaders
in this inquiry included Judge Sirica, reporters for the Washington Post, the Ervin committee, and
Archibald Cox, who was sworn in as special prosecutor in May 1973. Dean told the Ervin
committee in June that Nixon had cover up. A month later, former White House staff Alexander
Butterfield revealed that Nixon had secretly tape recorded conversations in his offices. Both Cox
and the Ervin committee began efforts to obtain selected tapes. Nixon, citing EXECUTIVE
PRIVILEGE, refused to relinquish them and tried to have Cox fired. On Oct. 20, 1973, Attorney
General Elliot L. Richardson, refusing to dismiss Cox, resigned in protest. His deputy, William
Ruckelshaus, also refused and was fired. Nixon s solicitor general, who was next in command, then
fired Cox. The Saturday night massacre, as the events of that evening became known, heightened
suspicions that Nixon had much to hide. Leon Jaworski, who replaced Cox as special prosecutor
on November 1, continued to press for the tapes. On Mar. 1, 1974, a federal grand jury indicted

Underage Drinking And The Long Term Effect
There has been a large amount of research regarding underage drinking and the long term effect
that it can have on a person s body and their mental state. The public is often informed of phases and
activities that underage students are partaking in that can be extremely harmful to themselves that
they are not aware of. In the journal article The Use of Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages Among
Underage Drinkers: Results of a National Survey they examine the relationship between the
tendencies underage drinkers who drinknon traditional caffeinated alcoholic beverages and
traditionally caffeinated alcoholic beverages. The study defines non traditional CABs as Pre
Mixed Sodas or Energy Drinks with Liquor added and defined traditional CABs as Liquor with
soda, coffee, or tea added by the beverage consumer.
Previous research in this field has led to the determination that the consumption of caffeinated
alcoholic beverages leads to an increased level of high risk behavior among adolescents and
young adults. Some of these high risk behaviors include driving while intoxicated, unprotected
sexual activity, and illegal substance abuse. In addition, heavy binge drinking is widely accepted
as contributing to neurocognitive deficits and increased morbidity and mortality. Much of the
previous research has focused on college aged young adults. This study hopes to greatly shed light
on the age group from 13 to 17 years old (pre collegiate adolescents). In addition, the study hopes to

Patients Health Of Medical Marijuana
Patients Health Utilizing Medical Marijuana

Introduction to Research Methods, Fall 2016
Abstract
The following study proposal would review the results of the overall health outcomes of patients
who replaced pharmaceutical treatment with medical marijuana. The study will look at the
improvements in meal consumption, Clinical Global Impression scores, Pittsburgh Agitation Scale,
and the decrease in the symptom being monitored. The studies being reviewed research many
conditions ranging from Alzheimer disease, dementia patients, dystonia, dyskinesias, and tics, and
pain management. Many studies indicate that the results may vary, and the extent of its beneficial
properties should be determined by the patients physician. It is hypothesized that the patients that
are replacing pharmaceutical treatment with medical treatment will present positive results.
One of the most popular treatments for medical problems is the prescription of pharmaceutical
drugs. Many doctors prescribe this drug without considering natural or holistic remedies. There are
many alternative solutions for many conditions, like diet, exercise, or therapy, yet doctors are still
quick to write out a prescription for pharmaceutical drugs for their patients. Pharmaceutical drugs
can be very dangerous and extremely harmful in any dosing or potency. Many doctors over
prescribe this drug, leading to addiction and even toxicity. One very popular

The First Only Atomic Bomb
The atomic bomb, also known as the atom bomb or fission bomb, a weapon whose explosive
power originates from the fission of atomic nuclei, a reaction in which an atomic nucleus splits
in two. When the nucleus of a heavy atom, such as the element uranium 235, which is what the
atom bomb is made out of, is split, a certain amount of mass disappears and an equivalent amount
of energy is released. This was expressed by the equation E=mc2 (energy = mass times the speed
of light squared). This is the energy that powers an atom bomb. On a pound for pound basis, the U
235 in an atomic bomb can release on the order of one million times as much energy as TNT, a
high explosive. The atomic bomb is the first nuclear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Was The Outcome Of The Manhattan Project?
In 1945 the United States covert operation known as The Manhattan Project achieved its goal to
create the first atomic bomb. Since its inception in 1939, scientist had struggled to find a way to
harness the power of fission. Through the combined efforts of many, a test bomb known as Fat
Boy was finally created. On July 16, 1945 in a desert in New Mexico the worlds first nuclear
test, codenamed Trinity, was conducted and ushered in the Atomic Age. The Trinity test success
led to the creation of two more atomic bombs that would be used in WWII. On August 6, 1945
the American B 29 bomber known as the Enola Gay released the first atomic bomb to be used in
warfare. The 9,000 pound bomb nicknamed Little Boy detonated in Hiroshima, Japan. Little Boy s
explosion was catastrophic and resulted in 66 thousand instantaneous deaths. Total vaporization
from the blast measured one half a mile in diameter. Total destruction ranged one mile in diameter
and serious blazes extended as far as three miles in diameter. Three days after the release of Little
Boy a second bomb named Fat Man was released on the town of Nagasaki.

Porphyria s Lover And Neutral Tones
The loss of a loved one is perhaps the most difficult experience that humans ever come up
against. The poem Porphyria s Lover, written by Robert Browning, adds a sense of irony to this.
At the most superficial layer, the speaker s in both Porphyria s Lover and Neutral Tones, written
by Thomas hardy, both deal with loss. The tones in Neutral Tones seem to be indifferent, or
Neutral. Porphyria s Lover speaker ends up murdering his beloved at the end the poem. While this
isn t the case with the speakerin Neutral Tones, the two speakers are much more similar than we
might think. The speaker in Neutral Tones doesn t outright murder his lover, but there is a
considerable amount of disdain and contempt towards his supposed lover. The speaker in
Porphyria s Lover is quite obviously a disturbed man, the sinister nature of the speaker in Neutral
Tones, however, is not as clear. Delving further into this idea, I will also discuss other obscure
parallels throughout the two poems. To start off with, the two speakers both have incredibly
negative and destructive ways of viewing the world. The speaker of Neutral Tones views the world
as though it is devoid of life and glee. He makes references throughout the poem that suggest this.
And the sunwas white, as though chidden of God (2) is a perfect instance of how the speaker in
Neutral Tones views the world. The sunis usually the source of all light and warmth in the world.
The speaker does not see the sun in this way. Since he sees the

those areas stricken by persistent poverty. Unbeknownst to many South Carolinians is the persistent
povertycorridor in which certain counties struggle much more than others along Interstate 95.
Allendale County stands out even amongst its peers as a county that is struggling to address
multigenerational poverty. This paper deals with Allendale County poverty beginning by offering
insight into poverty issues within South Carolina, followed by a SWOT analysis, a finagling
offering a few possible solutions.
Persistent Poverty in South Carolina
Poverty within the United States is defined as having an income below a federally determined
poverty threshold. Poverty thresholds were developed by the United States government in the
1960s to benchmark levels of subsistence. Over time these thresholds are often adjusted to
account for inflation; it is now typical for the federal government to adjust the poverty threshold
levels annually. Poverty levels represent the government s estimate of the point below which a
family has insufficient resources to meet their basic needs. Any family with less income than the
established poverty amount is officially classified as poor or as living in poverty. Income, as
defined by the federal rules, can include cash and cash like welfare

In Sorte Diaboli By Kenneth Burke Summary
In Sorte Diaboli (In League with the Devil) Symbols have formed the basis of our society. Our
language, our numbers, emojis, and every facet of our society has been based upon symbols.
Kenneth Burke in his Definition of Man essay brings up how every aspect of our reality has been
built up through our symbolsystems (Kenneth Burke). He describes humans as symbolizing
animals, however extends his definition into more specific terms. We are symbol using, symbol
making, and symbol misusing animals (Burke). This is an important distinction to make because
how it differentiates how symbols are used by us. As it so happens, this three headed definition
applies perfectly to the metal community. To say symbols created that subculture is an
understatement, as use of symbols is prevalent in many different regards. When attending local bay
area metal shows, it was clear that there were many different symbols present. Using
communication, one can see how symbols create the stigma that metalhead are Satanic. At all of the

I have, and while I love freaking people out with all the creative band names out their, it also
shows symbols fluctuate from person to person. See, Septicflesh is a band that gives me happy
memories, as their shows are great and their singer is one of the nicest metal musicians I ve met.
Yet in name alone, people shudder at the thought of such a thing. This is an example of fluctuating
symbols of the metal community. As Celeste Condit explains in her essay about the symboling
animal, symbols are in a constant state of flux (Condit). This of course creates different meanings
and confusion amongst the people. Looking at how symbols are fluctuate from one group to
another can explain how the negative stigma continues to grow about

Cranberry Industry Essay
The major trends of the cranberry industry and the problems facing RP#1
There are several major trends that we can observe in the cranberry industry for the period of 1945
1979 (See Table 1 in the Appendix).
First, there is a steady production increase in each of the five year periods: from 615,000 barrels
in 1945 1949 to 1,546,120 barrels 30 years later. The production growth was caused by the
increasing mechanisation of cranberry industry. For example, water harvesting could result in a
yield up to 20% higher than that obtained via dry harvesting. Hence, the average barrels per acre
grew from 23.7 in 1945 1949 to 73.7 in 1975 1979.
Second, the production growth led to the excess of cranberries produced over those utilized: from

Costs. The additional cost of the current process is $30,000 (investment to convert bins). It is
difficult to calculate the financial benefits from the elimination of queues, though we must not
forget that queues are an issue in the current process during peak days.
Option 2 Add 1 dryer ($40,000)
Benefits. Comparing to the current process this option would: * Improve the flow rate of the
system by 33% (from 857.1 to 1,142.9 bbls/hr) * reduce the total processing time by 25% (from
18.67 to 14 hours) * reduce overtime labour costs by (18.67 14)*4.5*20*20 = $8,406 per 20 days *
reduce overtime hours by 4.67*20*20 = 1,868 worker hours * eliminate queues
Another benefit is that the fewer overtime hours RP1 has, the easier it will be to find enough
seasonal workers. However, the dryers stage is still the bottleneck in the process with a utilisation
rate (16,000/12)*0.7/800 = 116.7%. See Table 6 in the Appendix.
Costs. The additional cost to the current process is (40,000 8,406) = $31,594. That means that
during those 20 days the benefits mentioned above would directly offset $8,406 of $40,000
investments. Assuming the same level of supply (16,000 bbls/day), the total investment would be
returned in (40,000/8,406)*20=95 days. It is difficult to calculate the financial benefits from the
elimination of queues and the lower dependence on seasonal workers, though we must not forget
that those are issues

Social Satire In Candide
Satire is a very difficult strategy to understand in texts that authors often used to ridicule politics
and social stands. Voltaire uses to satirize European Society in his book called Candide. The book s
name comes from the main character s name of the book, Candide: a naive optimism person which
represents the European due to their high status. Voltaireshows the corruption and hypocrisy of
religion and philosophy through arguing that it is possible to challenge blind optimism without
losing the will to live and pursue a happy life through Candide. Candide s happiness is Miss
Cunegonde because even after he get kicked out, he still looks toward the magnificent castle, where
the fairest of young baronesses lived (140).

This blind philosophy was challenged many times. One of the example was during the
shipwreck when Pangloss prevented Candide from saving Honest James because Anabaptist had
been made purpose to drown (25). This show the hypocrisy of the philosophers because Pangloss
just stated that Anabaptist is destined to die instead of giving every effort to save honest James.
How is Pangloss going to claim that all things happens for good reasons when he don t even have
the gut to do good deed and save Anabaptist? Candide s optimism has also been tested at the
Portuguese Earthquake when Dr. Pangloss has become the superstition sacrifice for the earthquake
because Pangloss was speaking his mind. If this is the best possible worlds, what are others like?
(29). Candide was very devastated because he loss his dear mentor, honest James, and heard
unpleasant news about Cunegonde being ripped open despite their separation.
Voltaire also attack blind optimism through Candide s experience.Candide once was a blind
optimistic person until he has experienced many things and witness the war zone. Young virgins
were ripped open, old men covered with wounds, wives dying with throat cuts while hugging their
children (17). War is a slaughter between strangers who were tools to their rulers to meet the
higher power s hunger for lands and luxuries. It also a fight between a trained soldiers with
weapons and not supposed to include the helpless innocent

Nelson Mandela was known as a world leader for his role in fighting apartheid and being the first
multi racial president of South Africa. His presidency created a significant change in the
perception and building of a multiracial society in South Africa and around the world. Nelson
Mandela was also known to be a leader of a civil rights organization known as the African National
Congress. The purpose of the African National Congress was to demolish racial segregation and
discrimination. The two most significant social changes made by Nelson Mandela was his uniting
of a fiercely divided country and his creation of a truly democratic society in South Africa. A great

In 1993, Nelson Mandela was elected the first multi racial president of South Africa. During his
term, he created a new constitution of law that declared majority rule and South Africa became
racially united. Every race was granted their human rights in South Africa thanks to the hard work
and struggles of Nelson Mandela, and his work was recognized nationally. Nelson Mandela later
worked on economic improvement within South Africa and focused on issues such as poverty and
AIDS.
Racial segregation and discrimination was also occurring in other parts of the world besides
South Africa. Martin Luther King Jr. was a colored pastor from Montgomery, Alabama who
shared a similar vision as Nelson Mandela. Martin Luther King Jr. had a vision that he could live
in a world where race did not affect how others treated you and or how you lived your life. The
two most significant political changes made by Martin Luther King Jr. were the abolishment of
racial segregation and the granting of civil rights and equality for Negroes.
Martin Luther King Jr. started a revolution in the 1950 s and 1960 s. Martin Luther King Jr.
believed in change. He wanted to put an end to the Jim Crow laws which gave Negroes
economic, educational, and social disadvantages. These laws made white people more superior
than the blacks. Martin Luther King Jr. s voice was heard when he chose to boycott these laws
after a woman by the name of Rosa Parks was arrested because she

Chris Brown Essay
Music is something that began many years ago. It has elevated from instrumental to adding lyrics
and then creating albums. An album is specifically created by one artist. In this album the artist has
the freedom to share their new creativity with the world. Many artist produce an album to help
them develop from an independent artist to a well known main stream artist. One artist in
particular is Chris brown. Chris brown is an artist that recognized is passion for musicduring his
early ages of childhood. Of course as a child you typically you have many dreams and aspects to be

One being that he could sing in a wide range of keys and two being that he could also rap. As an
audience member you do not enjoy hearing a monotone voice that never changes. You want to
hear something that repels emotion and gives you the urge to want to know what he is singing
about. For example, as someone in my youthful years I want to hear something that maybe starts
off low pitch, gradually becomes loud, and then possibly comes all the way back down to a high
pitch. One of his hit singles Run It was great at this. It has a pop and hip hop feel to it as it has a
chorus that is Chris Brown rapping in the background but singing as he leads into the separate
verses. What is even better is that each verse is a different in tempo and sound. So for this
particular song he has a verse where he sings and then another verse where he invites a rapper in
the song and gives the audience a boost of energy. This is a style of music that always keeps you
wanting to know what is coming next. Being young it kind of reminds me of my life, I never
know what is going to happen next, which brings me to the next reason I enjoy this album so
much. I can relate to the album and helps me to remember that I am not the only one

My Introductory On Public Administration
My Introductory to Public Administration class has taught me the range that can come with public
administration. Public administrators are employed in all levels of government, across various
fields including social welfare, financial administration, and human resources (Denhardt, 2014, p.
1). Despite the various type of public administrationjobs that exist, the one thing all public
administrators are required to do is to maintain a commitment to public service (Denhardt, 2014, p.
1). In order to better understand how public administrators are responsive to public interests, I was
assigned the task of interviewing a professional in public administration. I chose to interview
Jeanell Emond, program manager for Central Valley Prevention Program (CVPP) and Mental
Health Systems (MHS), because of my future in social work and my interest in developing and
managing programs that benefit the community. Through the interview I was able to gain valuable
insight on the agency and Mrs. Emond s role as a public administrator. More importantly, I was able
to learn how interorganizational partnerships, financial management, ethics, and leadership and
management skills in public administration can help develop stronger communities.
MHS is a non profit organization that provides innovative and cost effective mental health and drug
and alcohol recovery services through more than 85 community based programs throughout
California (Mental Health Systems, 2016). CVPP, one of the programs

A Functionalist View Of Religion
Religion is universal, but interpretations of the meaning of religions vary. There are several
philosophers who interpreted religion in different manners, three of them being Tylor, Frazer,
and Marx. Even though their ideals were different, they all three still held a general functionalist
view on religion that religion served the purpose to comfort or control humans. On the contrary
to the functionalist opinions of Tylor, Frazer, and Marx, my personal belief coincides mostly
with that of Rudolf Otto. I interpret religion as a great, unexplainable mystery (that may or may
not have to do with human function), and not solely the result of one s fears, one s intellect, or
one s oppression. A functionalist view of religion revolves around one treating religion as if it
were a logical, human operation that can be explained without spiritual connection, and Tylor,
Frazer, and Marx all depend on using functionality to explain religion. Tylor believed that people
invented religion because they feared death, and they wished to have peace of mind about the
death of their ancestors. The fear that sprouted from the unknown, according to Tylor s
philosophy, was consoled by the creation of religion. Frazer believed that religion progressed as
people evolved into higher thinking creatures. Primitive humans, according to Frazer, believed in
Animism, which is the concept that everything has a soul and is one with a god, whether it is a
rock or a caterpillar. The next step of developing

Power As A General Political Science
Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among
them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as
well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general
political scienceconcept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international
relationsperspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military,
economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau,
a classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he
further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public
authority and between the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree,
resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception
and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a
negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s
definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get
others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of
negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These definitions do not
emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Algae Research Paper
One world environmental issue that we have to turn our attention to is poaching, specifically in
Africa, of animals such as elephants, zebras, lions, black rhinos, and mountain gorillas. Last
year alone, over 35000 elephants were killed for their ivory tusks. Ivory is sold illegally for up
to $1000 per pound, and the tusks are often carved into jewelry, religious figurines, utensils, and
other small trinkets. Around 2000 zebras remain in the wild, and these animals are sought after
for their black and white striped skins, which are often made into clothing or accessories. The
surviving lion population is a mere 15% of what it used to be, and that is because farmers keep
killing them before the lions kill their livestock. Lions are often hunted for fun too, most recently
Cecil. The black rhino population is down 97.6% since 1960, and these animals are killed for their
valuable horns. The horns are believed to heal various ailments, when in reality, the horns do not
cure anything, it s all myth. Fewer than 900 mountain gorillas remain in the wild, and infant
gorillas are often sold on the black market... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Algae is easy to grow and requires little maintenance, and is renewable because it can be grown
again and again. However, most people nowadays have cars that run on gasoline, as well as
home appliances such as furnaces, stoves, and generators. In order for people to transition to
algae biofuel, they will most likely have to purchase new appliances or new parts to make their
existing appliances and cars algae friendly. I think that with time, people will become more and
more comfortable with the thought of utilizing algae biofuel for everyday activities, similarly to
how it took years for people to accept using solar panels to run their households and electric to fuel

However, for many Americans, that dream has become impossible. Due to economic hardship, many Americans are struggling to simply provide food for their families. Upward mobility seems elusive. Despite the fact that some believe the American Dream is still a reality, due to poor education, unemployment, economic downturn, and economic inequality the American Dream has become unattainable for most lower and middle class Americans. America has a massive wealth gap. According to Chris Matthews at Fortune, in America, the wealthiest 160,000 families own as much wealth as the poorest 145 million families. Simply put, college graduates are having a hard time finding jobs, and without a well paying job it is impossible to raise one s economic status in America. When an American graduates from college, there is a good chance that they will not be able to find employment. This is no surprise, since the Great Recession and its aftermath is the longest, most severe period of economic weakness in more than seven decades (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). Economic downturn means fewer available jobs, especially for those who are just entering the market, as most graduates are. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for college graduates is 7.2 percent and the underemployment rate (the unemployment rate combined with the rate of people currently employed part time but seeking full time work) is 14.9 percent. Due to the poor economic situation in America, many graduates are unable to take the two main paths receiving further education or getting more work experience that enable future career success (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). • 5. How Did Flappers Change The View Of Women During The 1920 S How did Flappers change the view of women in the 1920 s Before flappers came along women were very modest. They were brought up to be lady like and did not even date men unless their parents came along. They would wear clothes that were long and fancy and would cover their bodies head to toe, because they were not allowed to even show their ankles. Flappers went against all theses customs. Their irresponsible actions included: around kissing men, dancing on men provocatively, and just not caring about what the rules were. Their dress was a boxy shape that hung straight from the shoulders and fell in an unbroken line just below the knees. • 10. Motives For Colonization In New England And Chesapeake... New England and the Chesapeake Region were both settled primarily by people of English origin, however, by 1700 they had both transformed into two unique societies. This is because their motives for colonization, their geographies, and their governments were all different. For example, the New England colonies typically had much harsher winters than the Chesapeake region and their people came to America to escape religious persecutionin their mother country. On the other hand, the people of the Chesapeake region experienced warmer summers and came there in search of gold. As previously stated, different motives for colonization were partially responsible for transforming the New Englandand Chesapeake regions into two unique societies. The New England colonies were formed for religious reasons whereas the colonies of the Chesapeake region were formed for economic purposes. To emphasize, the people that settled in the New England colonies had been previously punished by their king, Henry VIII, for being non anglican and in turn they left the church of England for the Netherlands (they became known as separatists due to how they separated themselves from the Church). The Netherlands didn t happen to work out for the separatists, so they went to the New World and settled in the New England region. Based on this, it could also be said that the separatists were seeking permanent settlement (as they wanted to escape religious persecution) whereas those in the Chesapeake region ... Barry uses many old experiences while being in Miami, China, Boston, and Argentina. I agree with this statement because in almost every city I been in the driving was terrible. Everyone, in some way or another, has witnessed people drive very stupid and reckless. Barry indicated that some drivers use insane driving techniques. These include driving very fast, failure of the utilization of headlights at night, and having distractions for the view of the drivers. He says that the drivers do not have a sequence for navigation since some are involved in phone calls, eating, reading, changing CDs, crowd surface makeup, etc. This is a common thing for teens and even adults to be distracted behind the wheel. He drove through various cities where the trafficlaws are constantly being violated. For example, has only one traffic law, which is No driver may ever be behind any other driver. In his opinion, Miami drivers are the worst drivers that he has ever witness because of the guy who was driving on 1 95. He was watching videos on his phone and was clearly not paying attention to the road or any other drivers. This does not only affect him but also the other people around him. The blood was tested and was found to be a match for one of the murder victims, Nicole Brown Simpson. To counter this evidence, the defense for O. J. Simpson called Herbert MacDonell to testify about the blood stains that were found on the socks in Simpson s bedroom. The defense wan t trying to deny that the blood belong to Nicole, but rather how the blood ended up on the sock in the first place. Based on his experience in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis, he was able to present an argument that the blood stain was a result of a compression transfer (Walraven, 1995), rather than blood spatter, as the prosecution suggested. The compression transfer is said to be the result of someone placing blood onto the sock using some sort of device, and then removing it from the surface of the sock. The amount of blood present on one particular portion of the sock was also inconsistent with what you would find if spatter had occurred. • 26. Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks... Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming s influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I end my paper with a third section that offers research questions that could be answered in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Thomas Hart Benton s Impact On The Regionalist Movement Art Thomas Hart Benton was a muralist and an American painter. He had focus on the Regionalist movement art along with Grant and John Curry. Thomas Benton has had a great impact on the color, the resonant ideas and exuberance. Benton identified different diverse ideas of contradiction: the rituals and the urban, freedom, oppression, the poor, rich labor and entertainment (Marling, 1982). As Muraldeveloped the ideas, he span two epochs on the excess of Jazz Age and bitter side of depression in the country. This was expressed in the art work that he presented in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The painting was done 1930 to 1931 which was paced on the New School board room from social research in the city of New York. This painting attracted attention and was bought by Equitable Life then later to Metropolitan Museum as an exhibit. Benton developed 10 panels of which a lot of them were 7.5 feet in height and 9 feet in width. The painting was in egg tempera having an oil glaze, strong attractive colors, wide modulation and a very much gleaming surfaces (Benton, 1983). The painting had an aluminum frame, with complexity in mounding and curves in the right angles that showed the vignettes in the panel and addition of emphatic strength (Dennis,1998). • 29. The War Of The Great Depression The post 1945 period was an interesting time to live in America. It is during this period that the American dream became a reality for most Americans. Years of intensive wartime sacrifice were over and gone was the poverty borne out of the Great Depression. The American dream was being redefined and here stood a chance to own a house in your own land, a car and a dog. Families that had put on hold getting another child finally put away their worries and the country experienced a post war baby boom. Despite all the positives, it was also during this period that racial fears were ripe. This coupled with the desire to vacate the decaying cities is what prompted a huge number of white Americans to move to the suburbia area. Within a very short time, suburbs had become very popular and they created an illusion of a perfect traditional family. They became the latest glamorous countryside and every rich individual wanted to be part of this perfection. There was however difficulties that was experienced in the suburbs as a swelling population was experienced. The three novels White house, Revolutionary road and parts of Mrs. Browns The hours all show the plight of Suburban American both in comic and tragic lights. Growing suspicion of presidential involvement in the scandel resulted in an intensification of the investigation. Leaders in this inquiry included Judge Sirica, reporters for the Washington Post, the Ervin committee, and Archibald Cox, who was sworn in as special prosecutor in May 1973. Dean told the Ervin committee in June that Nixon had cover up. A month later, former White House staff Alexander Butterfield revealed that Nixon had secretly tape recorded conversations in his offices. Both Cox and the Ervin committee began efforts to obtain selected tapes. Nixon, citing EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE, refused to relinquish them and tried to have Cox fired. On Oct. 20, 1973, Attorney General Elliot L. Richardson, refusing to dismiss Cox, resigned in protest. His deputy, William Ruckelshaus, also refused and was fired. • 41. Porphyria s Lover And Neutral Tones The loss of a loved one is perhaps the most difficult experience that humans ever come up against. The poem Porphyria s Lover, written by Robert Browning, adds a sense of irony to this. At the most superficial layer, the speaker s in both Porphyria s Lover and Neutral Tones, written by Thomas hardy, both deal with loss. The tones in Neutral Tones seem to be indifferent, or Neutral. Porphyria s Lover speaker ends up murdering his beloved at the end the poem. While this isn t the case with the speakerin Neutral Tones, the two speakers are much more similar than we might think. The speaker in Neutral Tones doesn t outright murder his lover, but there is a considerable amount of disdain and contempt towards his supposed lover. The speaker in Porphyria s Lover is quite obviously a disturbed man, the sinister nature of the speaker in Neutral Tones, however, is not as clear. Delving further into this idea, I will also discuss other obscure parallels throughout the two poems. To start off with, the two speakers both have incredibly negative and destructive ways of viewing the world. The speaker of Neutral Tones views the world as though it is devoid of life and glee. He makes references throughout the poem that suggest this. And the sunwas white, as though chidden of God (2) is a perfect instance of how the speaker in Neutral Tones views the world. • 45. In Sorte Diaboli By Kenneth Burke Summary In Sorte Diaboli (In League with the Devil) Symbols have formed the basis of our society. Our language, our numbers, emojis, and every facet of our society has been based upon symbols. Kenneth Burke in his Definition of Man essay brings up how every aspect of our reality has been built up through our symbolsystems (Kenneth Burke). He describes humans as symbolizing animals, however extends his definition into more specific terms. We are symbol using, symbol making, and symbol misusing animals (Burke). This is an important distinction to make because how it differentiates how symbols are used by us. As it so happens, this three headed definition applies perfectly to the metal community. To say symbols created that subculture is an understatement, as use of symbols is prevalent in many different regards. When attending local bay area metal shows, it was clear that there were many different symbols present. Using communication, one can see how symbols create the stigma that metalhead are Satanic. See, Septicflesh is a band that gives me happy memories, as their shows are great and their singer is one of the nicest metal musicians I ve met. Yet in name alone, people shudder at the thought of such a thing. This is an example of fluctuating symbols of the metal community. As Celeste Condit explains in her essay about the symboling animal, symbols are in a constant state of flux (Condit). This of course creates different meanings and confusion amongst the people. • 46. Cranberry Industry Essay The major trends of the cranberry industry and the problems facing RP#1 There are several major trends that we can observe in the cranberry industry for the period of 1945 1979 (See Table 1 in the Appendix). First, there is a steady production increase in each of the five year periods: from 615,000 barrels in 1945 1949 to 1,546,120 barrels 30 years later. The production growth was caused by the increasing mechanisation of cranberry industry. For example, water harvesting could result in a yield up to 20% higher than that obtained via dry harvesting. Hence, the average barrels per acre grew from 23.7 in 1945 1949 to 73.7 in 1975 1979. Second, the production growth led to the excess of cranberries produced over those utilized: from 0% of ... It is difficult to calculate the financial benefits from the elimination of queues, though we must not forget that queues are an issue in the current process during peak days. Option 2 Add 1 dryer ($40,000) Benefits. Comparing to the current process this option would: * Improve the flow rate of the system by 33% (from 857.1 to 1,142.9 bbls/hr) * reduce the total processing time by 25% (from 18.67 to 14 hours) * reduce overtime labour costs by (18.67 14)*4.5*20*20 = $8,406 per 20 days * reduce overtime hours by 4.67*20*20 = 1,868 worker hours * eliminate queues Another benefit is that the fewer overtime hours RP1 has, the easier it will be to find enough seasonal workers. However, the dryers stage is still the bottleneck in the process with a utilisation rate (16,000/12)*0.7/800 = 116.7%. See Table 6 in the Appendix. Costs. The additional cost to the current process is (40,000 8,406) = $31,594. That means that during those 20 days the benefits mentioned above would directly offset $8,406 of $40,000 investments. Assuming the same level of supply (16,000 bbls/day), the total investment would be returned in (40,000/8,406)*20=95 days. It is difficult to calculate the financial benefits from the elimination of queues and the lower dependence on seasonal workers, though we must not forget that those are issues ... Voltaire uses to satirize European Society in his book called Candide. How is Pangloss going to claim that all things happens for good reasons when he don t even have the gut to do good deed and save Anabaptist? Candide s optimism has also been tested at the Portuguese Earthquake when Dr. Pangloss has become the superstition sacrifice for the earthquake because Pangloss was speaking his mind. If this is the best possible worlds, what are others like? (29). Candide was very devastated because he loss his dear mentor, honest James, and heard unpleasant news about Cunegonde being ripped open despite their separation. For example, as someone in my youthful years I want to hear something that maybe starts off low pitch, gradually becomes loud, and then possibly comes all the way back down to a high pitch. One of his hit singles Run It was great at this. It has a pop and hip hop feel to it as it has a chorus that is Chris Brown rapping in the background but singing as he leads into the separate verses. What is even better is that each verse is a different in tempo and sound. So for this particular song he has a verse where he sings and then another verse where he invites a rapper in the song and gives the audience a boost of energy. This is a style of music that always keeps you wanting to know what is coming next. • 50. My Introductory On Public Administration My Introductory to Public Administration class has taught me the range that can come with public administration. Public administrators are employed in all levels of government, across various fields including social welfare, financial administration, and human resources (Denhardt, 2014, p. 1). Despite the various type of public administrationjobs that exist, the one thing all public administrators are required to do is to maintain a commitment to public service (Denhardt, 2014, p. 1). In order to better understand how public administrators are responsive to public interests, I was assigned the task of interviewing a professional in public administration. I chose to interview Jeanell Emond, program manager for Central Valley Prevention Program (CVPP) and Mental Health Systems (MHS), because of my future in social work and my interest in developing and managing programs that benefit the community. Through the interview I was able to gain valuable insight on the agency and Mrs. Emond s role as a public administrator. More importantly, I was able to learn how interorganizational partnerships, financial management, ethics, and leadership and management skills in public administration can help develop stronger communities. MHS is a non profit organization that provides innovative and cost effective mental health and drug and alcohol recovery services through more than 85 community based programs throughout California (Mental Health Systems, 2016). • 51. A Functionalist View Of Religion Religion is universal, but interpretations of the meaning of religions vary. There are several philosophers who interpreted religion in different manners, three of them being Tylor, Frazer, and Marx. Even though their ideals were different, they all three still held a general functionalist view on religion that religion served the purpose to comfort or control humans. On the contrary to the functionalist opinions of Tylor, Frazer, and Marx, my personal belief coincides mostly with that of Rudolf Otto. I interpret religion as a great, unexplainable mystery (that may or may not have to do with human function), and not solely the result of one s fears, one s intellect, or one s oppression. A functionalist view of religion revolves around one treating religion as if it were a logical, human operation that can be explained without spiritual connection, and Tylor, Frazer, and Marx all depend on using functionality to explain religion. Tylor believed that people invented religion because they feared death, and they wished to have peace of mind about the death of their ancestors. The fear that sprouted from the unknown, according to Tylor s philosophy, was consoled by the creation of religion. Frazer believed that religion progressed as people evolved into higher thinking creatures. Primitive humans, according to Frazer, believed in Animism, which is the concept that everything has a soul and is one with a god, whether it is a rock or a caterpillar. • 52. Power As A General Political Science Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political scienceconcept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relationsperspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical realist, defines power as men s control over the minds and actions of other men , he further states that a political power is the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one s ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye s definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of negotiation as the ability to persuade someone to do something (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of ... • 53. Algae Research Paper One world environmental issue that we have to turn our attention to is poaching, specifically in Africa, of animals such as elephants, zebras, lions, black rhinos, and mountain gorillas. Last year alone, over 35000 elephants were killed for their ivory tusks. Ivory is sold illegally for up to $1000 per pound, and the tusks are often carved into jewelry, religious figurines, utensils, and other small trinkets. Around 2000 zebras remain in the wild, and these animals are sought after for their black and white striped skins, which are often made into clothing or accessories. The surviving lion population is a mere 15% of what it used to be, and that is because farmers keep killing them before the lions kill their livestock. Lions are often hunted for fun too, most recently Cecil. The black rhino population is down 97.6% since 1960, and these animals are killed for their valuable horns. The horns are believed to heal various ailments, when in reality, the horns do not cure anything, it s all myth.
