ONGC, … has spudded a well in 10411 feet
(3174 m) of water depth on 18th June 2013.
The well # 1-D-1 in Exploratory Block KG-
DWN-2005/1, off East Coast of India, is
being drilled by rig DDKG1. This enabled
ONGC to surpass its own earlier world
record set in January 2013, for drilling a well
in deepest water depth. Since 2004, ONGC
has drilled over 100 deepwater wells. A
large number of these wells are in daunting
water depths beyond 5000 feet in
environmentally and logistically difficult

9. What is the Dynamic Model in place?
The Dynamic modeling results suggest the total gas production from the gas fields
located in the northern portion of KG-DWN-98/2 Block along with G-4 field starting
from 2016-17 over a period of 15 years is 84.41 BCM with a peak gas rate of 33
MMm3/d (including AG and GCG). The cumulative oil production potential from
the five oil fields of KG-DWN-98/2 Block is 25.63 MMm3 over a period of 10 years
with a peak oil rate of 12,000 m3/d.

▪What was the proposal in each case i.e. Target and
real Achievement?
▪What kind of failure mode G&G Analysis happened
to create knowledge and geological expertise?
Many wells cost more than a Chandrayan…!

▪ What kind of SOPs have you received in the name of expertise
of so and so for the Petrophysical Workflow?

• What is expertise? What kind of publications people have?
▪ How many of you have studied the SOPs and contrasted with
the knowledge available on finger tips by Google?
▪ How the FERs and Field Studies are undertaken? Why the
location release proposals and the post well studies of the
wells are missing in the list of references?

• We have a premiere Institute, IRS with the state of the
art software capabilities.
• Why the field studies are not with reference to the
Simulations existing?
• Why the Petrophysicists are not asking for the existing
simulation study reports and data vis-a-vis models gone
into the same?
• Do we Petrophysicists understand the role of simulation
study reports?

based on a Dynamic Model. Do we have a history of
successful application of Reservoir Simulation in any of

• What kind of documented expertise can we meet as the
root of 50,000 Crore investment in KG-DWN-98/2?

Feasibility Reports…?

17. Geological reports: Crux of E&P Technoscience
• Some of the EIA reports (Environment Impact
Assessment) contain the “Technical Justification for
Exploratory Drilling”.
• But how did that technical justification met with
fulfilment by drilling goes un-noticed in ONGC?
• Given the cost of each well, how much do we care
for wholesome documentation around each hole?

18. Appeal to the CMD & Board of Directors
• In the interest ONGC and the Nation, instructions may please be given
for “Genuine Multi Disciplinary G&G work flow” and uploading of all
the Geological reports and simulation studies on the EPINET platform.
• Neglect of the GCMs and Simulation studies to cover up the abuse of
technoscience in releasing the locations may please be brought under
a transparent inquiry.
• Petrophysical field studies neglecting the available Simulation studies
may please be brought under scrutiny in view of the misuse of poor
in-house report and publication thereof for personal glorification and
patronizing of fake science and fake merit.
