How Does Mary Shelly Use Gothic Elements In Frankenstein
Gothic novels came into place in the late seventeen hundreds betraying supernatural events,
dishonor, death, and disaster. Gothic novels are significant, because it allows people to explore a
different world through their own imagination, which condones hidden desires or curiosities.
Frankenstein is a fine expression of a gothic novel where Mary Shelly uses different situations to
have Victor Frankensteincreate a monster under the cloudy circumstances which victor gathers
body parts for his experiments and the use of little known modern technologies for unnatural
purposes (Harcourt 1), being unknown by man for Victors creations in showing suspenseful
innovations, reflects on the elements of a gothic novel. Mary Shelly Frankenstein shows how
Victor Frankenstein strives for knowledge to go against the laws of nature and natural order. The
natural order of a human corps is to be born, lived, aged, and to die then decomposed, but by Victor
creating a man like being from human corps, off sets the natural order of mankind. Soon realizing
that his creation is far more advanced then he thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frankenstein then knows that he is in a powerful position as the stronger of the two, and can
threaten Victor because of it, so much so that Victor will wish he was never born. Frankenstein s
method of desolating Victor s heart is not to kill him directly, but to kill those who he loves.
Frankenstein s approach is emphasized, when Victor decides not to create another monster. The
monster confronts him, saying remember, I shall be with you on your wedding night (Shelly 153).
This implies that on Victor s first night of being married to his adopted sister, Frankenstein will
plan to be there to kill

The Enchanted Ground
While at Vanity Fair, Faithfulness was caught and was killed (Bunyan The Pilgrim s Progress
158). Christian was able to escape and was reminded that day that we as Christ followers need to
be ready for anything including death in order to make a difference in the world. As Christian
moves on he meets another man named Hope. Hope was an encouragement to Christian because he
stressed that now he is changed and he relies only on Christ for his strength (Bunyan The Pilgrim s
Progress 158). While they are together they talk about their journeys up to this point and both
realize that they had actually met the same old wise man and were directed in the same place. They
ponder at what the man had told them and were able to remember that he had told them that two
was better than one because the one is more open to temptation. They find this advice to be helpful
especially as they enter into the place called the Enchanted Ground. The Enchanted Ground is a
ground that is so desirable, tempting, and often caused death. They recollect that because they are
together they will not succumb to the temptation and will be able to make it through together. Once
the endured the temptations of the Enchanted Grounds they were almost instantly confronted with
a new trial. This time is it was a person, his name was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Outsider And Native People Essay
Reflection #3 In this reading, the main topic is about the relationship between wildlife
conservation policies (outsiders) and the native people Mt. Meru. Their situation is similar to
what many natives must face in the developing world: policy making by outside people on land
that was not theirs in the first place. Like the Native Americans of the Americas, Europeans
migrated to Africa and settled in areas that they had no rights to. Despite there being people who
have been there for many years, this was almost obsolete to them. They began creating policies to
control the resources used in such areas. For example, this article speaks of tightening of state
control over forest and wildlife resources on the mountain at the expense of existing customary
rights... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cooperation cannot be reached because the policy makers aren t allowing the natives to have a
word in anything that is done, despite the natives being affected by such decision 100 percent.
They use the environment for their needs, and that is why much of the illegal poaching that is
stated in the reading, is done by outside people . Cooperation from the administrators with the
natives could prevent such actions from taking place, but instead, elephant numbers have fallen
and black rhinoceros have apparently been extirpated (Neumann 1992). The park has put much
of their policies over the lives of the people and this has caused a large divide in the community.
Animals are a typical nuisance for the Meru people causing damage to their fields where food
can no longer be harvested and eaten. They would then see poachers as a beneficial factor for
them since the problems would be fixed and the natives would be going against the policy of the
outsiders. In conclusion, a relationship between the Meru people and the policy makers must get
better or nothing good will come out of this. Animal populations will continue to decrease while the
parks boundaries will continue to increase with no

Existentialism And The Absurd By Albert Camus
In studying the works of authors, we are able to see the many factors that play a key role in their
lives. These authors incorporate different components into their novels and stories to present a
deeper meaning within their work. In his various books, short stories, and plays, the French
Algerian writer Albert Camusrelates to his philosophical beliefs: specifically existentialismand the
absurd, as well as his connecting idea of rebellion. Camus most prominent works such as the novels
The Plague, The Stranger, The Rebel, and others reflect these beliefs and ideas he held.
Though he was and continues to be considered as one, Camus made a point of rejecting the label of
an existentialist. Existentialism is essentially based on the idea that philosophy starts with the
acceptance of being an actual living human individual or the realization of existence. The term
existence before essence basically means that the after this recognition of existence, the essence, or
qualities and defining traits, will follow. In existentialism a fundamental belief is that each and
every individual has the responsibility of applying their own meaning to life and genuinely living
life through this specific purpose (Wikipedia contributors). In these aspects, many of Camus
writings can therefore been seen as reflecting existentialism.
In popular Greek myth, the character of Sisyphus is sent to Tartarus for tricking the gods. There he
is forced to roll a boulder up a hill,

Cubicles Are Not Appropriate For Modern Offices
Cubicles are not appropriate for modern offices. Instant and easy communication is built on teams
working efficiently together. This necessitates an open work space environment. Currently cubicles
prevent employees from communication. It is not hard to see that employees just call each other
on phone every day. They even only know each other by sound rather than see each other ever.
Open work spaceis needed now to boost the collaboration and provide more value to the satisfaction
of the employees.
Let us picture the open workspace. Instead of building costly concrete buildings, we will recreate
the office environment. We will eliminate cubicles and set up open space for the employees.
Employees would be able to work on a set of tasks together. For example, programmers in the
company, most of the time, are in charge of only a small part of the whole project. If they cannot
communicate well, it always doubles the time and the cost. In this respect, these key features make
a good open space:
п‚џMore whiteboard, comfortable bean sofa, multiple cafeterias, other places to read and work.
Employees can move their desk and chairs rather than stay in the confined offices all day.
п‚џMore areas that hold more than one person to encourage communication.
п‚џPurpose free generic thinking areas in open plan spaces, which encourage workers to do their
thinking in the presence of other people, rather than alone.
п‚џTo protect privacy, private offices and meeting rooms will also be

Catch 22 Essay
In order to be grounded you must be crazy, but if you ask to be grounded, you must not be crazy
anymore, so you have to continue flying (Heller 40). This is the justification of what a catch 22
is. Insane behavior and the fight for freedom are both acts, which transpire in Catch 22.
Yossarian, a squadron captain is in World War II flying a plane and fighting for his country.
Though trying to get out, he knows there is only one way, and that would only get him away from
all of the terror. This brings the reader to the theme of the play, escape. Insanity is the only saneway
to deal with an insane situation (Heller78). Joseph Heller s Catch 22 explains an insight of which a

Being stuck there with both, no way out until being told by some one of a higher rank.
Personally speaking, I am currently employed at a job making only a small weekly sum of
money. Moreover I am not experienced enough to work somewhere making a larger amount of
money. My education is limited at the moment, so I must stick with my current job (or one like
it) or have no job at all. The whole idea of escape can be applied to most any aspect of life.
To an extent the thought of escape can be universal. People will go great lengths to get out of the
situation they are in. Not always getting out of the situation though, and sometimes becoming
emotionally distressed or even leading to their insanity. Troubles plague all, be they small or large.
Some troubles have an open route for escape and some do not. Doctor Danceka explains.

know a lot of people are going to have to suffer for us to win it. But why must I be one of them?
Why don t they draft some of these old doctors who keep shooting their kissers off in public
about what big sacrifices the medical game stands ready to make? I don t want to make sacrifices.
I want to make dough (Heller 26).

Why A Mass Murderer Commits A Crime Essay
As usual, he was dressed in black that day, Jamie Rouse saw two female teachers talking in the
hallway, so he silently progressed towards them, and shot both of the teachers in the head. Then
with a grin, Jamie turned towards the school s football coach. Instead of hitting the coach Jamie
tore a bullet through a student s throat. Sadly, sixteen year old Diane Collins ended up in the
wrong place at the wrong time. She died that day. According to a study, rampage killers usually
talk long before their heinous plans to commit the murder. Also, in 54 of the 100 cases, shooters
like Jamie gave direct blueprints of where, when, and who they predetermined to kill (Glaberson,
and Goodstein). Others heard or saw the shooter go through earlier tendencies, signs of mental
illnesses, and the people or places around the killerfailed to do anything about the shooter s plan.
For fame, revenge, or simply a sense of belonging, there are many reasons why a mass murderer
commits a crime. According to Andrea Bonior, she has a Ph. D. in licensed clinical
psychologist, she writes, he wanted to triumph and be somebody. People denounce celebrities who
have gotten that way for doing nothing, and we re rapid to take offense at people who ll do
anything to get publicity.
Another motive can be the killer wants to seek vengeance on people or places. In the article

Pain During Pregnancy
Leg Pain during Pregnancy: Can it Be Serious?
Experiencing leg pain during pregnancy is normal. Major leg pain may indicate a more serious
medical condition. Here are five common causes of leg pain during pregnancy.
Sciatica
One of the most common causes of leg pain during pregnancy is sciatica. This can occur because
of weight gain, a heavy belly pulling on the back and the uterus pressuring the sciatic nerve.
Sometimes the baby s head will directly rest on the nerve itself. The sciatic nerve starts at the
lower back and runs down the back of each leg to the feet. This causes pain in the lumbar area and
back of the legs. Leg Cramps
While no one is certain why pregnant women are more likely to get leg cramps, some suggest it is
because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edema occurs because the uterus pressures certain veins, which slow the blood circulation of the
legs. This results in swollen feet, ankles and legs. Edema typically occurs during the third trimester.
While it is temporary, a pregnant women with multiples will experience more discomfort and
tenderness. Varicose veins tend to develop alongside edema. http://www.ivein.com/ Deep Vein
Thrombosis (DVT)
Venous thrombosis is when a blood clot forms in a vein. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs in a
vein far below the surface of the skin. DTV typically appears in the legs or pelvis. Symptoms of
DVT include pain or swelling in the leg, red skin and abnormally large veins. An untreated blood
clot is a serious condition that can result in a pulmonary embolism (PE). This is when the blood clot
becomes stuck in a lung. This life threatening condition can cause breathing difficulty, chest pain
and ultimately physical collapse.
Uterine Fibroids
These are non cancerous tumors that grow inside the uterus. At least 20 percent of women are
through to develop uterine fibroids during pregnancy. Doctors believe that fibroids occur because
of hormonal changes or genetic history. While they may be very small, they are also very
dangerous. They can increase pressure on the bladder and even block the uterine opening, which
will result in a cesarean

Queen V Dudley and Stephens
There are many possibilities and options I could have taken if I were in Dudley s shoes. Murder
Parker, and feed on him; ask for Parker s consent to kill and consume him; take a vote, or a lottery
and then feed on the selected one, assuming there was consensus to the vote or lottery and to its
outcome. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of
cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Using Kant s categorical imperative, I believe
that murder, in any way, aside from self defense, is morally wrong.
Kant s categorical imperative refers to the supreme principle of morality whereby it is morally
essential that we adhere to this principle in all circumstances, independent of whether or ... Show

Since I have already proven that the killing of Parker was intended murder in the previous
paragraph, this shows that through the murder, Parker s rights to live was deprived. He, being a
young boy of seventeen, eighteen, would have his own aspirations and dreams and he was
deprived of that right to live and fulfill those dreams, just because he was weaker than the other
three men. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the
later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the
happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves,
the general public, and human right activists.
In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and
friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is
the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source
of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in
a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. Moreover, having a father figure
in the family is important for a home to be wholesome. Losing Parker, on the other hand, will not
have such consequences as he being an orphan would not

Oscar Wilde s Character, Jack Worthing, And The Other
Oscar Wilde s protagonist, Jack Worthing, carries on two distinct identities throughout the play. One
of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in
London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory
to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest
correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest,
serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have
the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name
Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain
(Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be
plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde
gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names
Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts.
The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. The pun depends on not only
the adjective earnest, but after the farce has ended the audience will recognize that there is an
actual importance in being a gentleman named Ernest. In the Victorian era, the idea of earnestness
was a virtue that the people attached the

Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was viewed as unpopular and pointless by society; The Green

war journalist George Beckwith (David Janssen). Beckwith originally doubts America s
involvement in the war, but after spending time with the GreenBerets, his attitude changes

Lighting is also used to tell the dramatic state of mind of a character, as is the case with Private
Eriksson in Casualties of War. Eriksson suffers an injury from combat and taken to a hospitable.
Shadows from the fan blowing on him go around his face in a rapid motion. As this is shown,
Eriksson dreams of hearing the screams of the Vietnamese woman who was killed by Sergeant
Meserve. As the screams increase in volume, the shadows from the fan go around Eriksson s face
at a faster pace. Right when the screams and shadows reach their height in intensity, Eriksson
wakes up from his dream. With this expressionistic use of lighting, it allows the audience to see
how much of an impact the murder of the Vietnamese woman had on Eriksson. Now that we have
covered lighting, let s take a look at color in these two films. The use of color in The Green Berets
creates a mood for the audience. The Green Berets were labeled the liberators from oppression,
and the film creates an environment that is colored in green to express that slogan. By using the
color green, it creates a tranquil and comfortable mood for the audience. The colors blue and green
help create what a character is feeling. This is proven when George Beckwith is telling John Wayne
about his change of heart toward the war. The shot shows Beckwith with a blue sky and

Fundamental Principles of Adult Education

Abstract
Part of being a good, quality educator is to learn the learning styles of the students and adapt to
those forms of learning. Adult learning is growing, more and more are going to college at later
stages in life. Out of the 35 people, there will be many different learning styles. Malcom Knowles is
known for defining characteristics of adult learning.

To learn is obviously a mental process, but how a person learns needs to be determined. Some
people have a more hands on approach to learning, while others are visual learners. An example
would be someone who had dyslexia and sees things backwards; they need different instructions
to take in the information. Also, people act differently. An example would be myself, I have
ADHD. I do not like to sit for long periods of time because I just can t keep my concentration.
Keeping the attention of such an age span could pose problems. Keeping lectures short, mixing
things up, taking a break could all be ways to make sure everyone s able to pay attention and get
the most out of the teachings.
Sociocultural
The world that we live in shapes the people we are, how we do things, and how we live. Cultures
dictate a lot of learning, as does family status. People that have families live busy lives. A
traditional family today now has two working parents, along with kids. If they are taking classes
in addition to their hectic schedule they don t have time to waste, are focused and determined.
Whereas, a twenty year old with no wife and no children is more likely the one to put less effort
into the homework, more likely to miss class, and more likely to do the minimal amount of work to
get by. Teaching methods must encourage all ages, cultures, and races.
Cognitive
Cognitive learning is how the brain processes information. All ages

How Did Tom Wolfe Criticize The Bauhaus
The aftermath of the First World War brought forth an era of new technology, a movement that
focused on serving the masses and produce art that focused on functionality rather than aesthetics.
The Bauhaus was a school in Germany founded by Walter Gropius, who had ideals to bring a
unification between arts and design. Students were taught to embrace new technology and create
architecture that highlights its functionality. This minimalism approach became an integral part of
what has become of modernismtoday. Although, this is not without its critics, American journalist
Tom Wolfe, criticises Bauhausarchitects as creating unattractive architecture and that it is no longer
art. Although the original institution does not operate anymore, its... Show more content on

The style was born of inspiration toward Bauhaus and adopts the principle of purism and
minimalism. Architects were becoming dissatisfied with the ongoing use of mixed decorative
elements from different architectural periods that showed limited or no relation to the buildings
function. Therefore architect Le Corbusier s presentation of using steel and glass in the Modern
Architecture Exhibition of 1932 piqued interest in the architecture community. Using the teachings
and principles he enforced using his Bauhaus years, Le Corbusier was able to expand his Bauhaus
teaching to the American market in the form the International Style. A famous modernist work by
Le Corbusier, the Villa Savoye, became the epitome of the international style. It emphasised that
architects should be responsible for researching and solving the problem of between cost and
function of a building. Due to the influence of Bauhaus, modern architecture became more
beneficial and became an architecture design style that recorded the lowest prices at that time due
to its simplicity, costing only twenty cents per square foot. The building not only maximises the
money spent but also breaks traditional cliche design concepts at the time more specifically heavy
foundations and narrow windows. The influence of Bauhaus spreads worldwide defining the

Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay
Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations
Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens
represents this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities,
yet found himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social
standing, and become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did
he get the girl. Pip never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the
novel, never discovered his self worth. This resulted in Pip essentially being a low class,
mentally and physically abused nobody, who had dreamed of a beautiful life. The first, and
most obvious side of Pip, is when he was a little boy. This is the most important part of Pip, this
is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was
unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no angel, she was mentally and physically
abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up has made me sensitive. In the little
world in which children have their existence whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely
perceived and so finely felt, as injustice. (63) His adult narrator perspective shows that he knows
his upbringing was bad, and gives us an insight into how he felt. Pip was terrified of his sister, he
twisted the only button on his waistcoat

can become rich is by hitting the lottery, then you are mistaken!
One third of lottery winners ends up in a serious financial crisis or file for bankruptcy within five

Excuse #1: It s too risky to quit my job
This would have been a valid excuse 10 years back before we all witnessed the recession in 2008,
but not anymore. We all saw how millions of people lost their jobs and became unemployed
overnight. Job security is a myth. The biggest risk you can take in life is to hand over the steering
wheel of your life to your employer.
When you totally depend on your employer for your monthly salary, you are literally at the
mercy of the company. Even if you are one of the top performers in your company, there could
be a lot of external factors that can put your job at risk. The company s shares may go down in
the stock market due to some negative PR and they may have to downsize. The management
policies of the company may change due to their collaboration with a foreign partner. Or you may
just end up fighting with your boss over a trivial issue and get fired! Anything is possible.
On the other hand, if you are an entrepreneur, you take total control over your life.
You can set targets for your business and get the resources to achieve it. If you can see some
great opportunities coming up in your industry, you can take the action steps that can double or
triple your business. You need not wait for a pay raise! If you foresee some challenges in the
market, you can quickly take the necessary steps to diversify your portfolio and safeguard your

Good People David Foster Wallace Summary
The Ambiance of Human Decency
How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of
what it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute
to the theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to
how certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters
face the decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach
that would make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly
contributes to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes
visible the way the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The
environment of the peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described
objects, and consistency in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration
of the characters in their attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance
thematic patterns and implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader
closely understand specific emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s
exploration of human decency.
When introducing and laying the foundation of a story, the setting described has the ability to
engage the reader and paint a picture of the tone

Psychology viewed as an old discipline. Psychology can trace its roots to the 5 century BC to the

Titration Of An Unknown Solution
A titration is a method to determine the concentration of an unknown solution by using the known
concentration of another solution. An analyte is the concentration of an unknown solution . A
titrant is the concentration of a known solution. The glassware needed to perform a titration are a
buret, a flask, and an indicator of pH meter. The buret sends the second reactant to the flask. An
indicator detects the endpoint of this reaction. Standardization is the process in which you
determine the concentration of the titrant before performing the titration. One would need to make a
standard solution to be precise, and make sure the titration experiment is being done correct. The
equivalence point is point in the titration when the quantity of titrant is the right amount for the
reaction with the analyte.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You prepare a standard solution by using the M1V1=M2V2 formula, and putting the information to
solve the equation. An indicator is going to have a reaction with hydroxide ions or hydrogen ions to
determine whether the substance is a base or acid. The role of an indicator in a titration is to
determine how many oxygen or hydroxide ions are in a solution. The laboratory method that is
used to titrate an unknown strong acid solution is a titration. When you drop NaOH ions the OH
ions unite with H ions creating water which leave less H ions in the solution making the solution
less acidic. The more NaOH ions you add the solution will eventually change color due to the
indicator. The data that should be collected during the titration in order to calculate the
concentration of HCl should be the number of moles, the volume of the solution, and the amount
dropped to make the solution less acidic. You calculate the molarity/ concentration of the unknown

Evaluating Kindergarten Teachers Perspectives About The...
CHAPTER 5
DISCUSSION
The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers perspectives about the practice of
effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical
practices.
Study Implications
The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were
numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the
researcher s capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area
of interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered
considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from
which it comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the
issue of study. It can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be
large enough so that central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small
sample size, it did not contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the
sample size, there was a postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to
the field would allow for a pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By
containing such a small sample size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the
past 5 years, it refuted the capability to essentially run the

When looking at break evens it is also helpful to look at fixed and variable costs. Fixed overhead
is steady and can be factored in quite accurately. Variable costs are not as simple to calculate but
in many industries variable costs follow certain percentages or ratios so they are easier to

The Break even Analysis depends on three key assumptions:1.Average per unit sales price (per
unit revenue: This is the price that you receive per unit of sales2.Average per unit cost: This is the
incremental cost, or variable cost, of each unit of sales. If you buy goods for resale, this is what
you paid, on average, for the goods you sell. If you sell a service, this is what it costs you, per
dollar of revenue or unit of service delivered, to deliver that service.
3.Monthly fixed costs: Technically, a break even analysis defines fixed costs as costs that would
continue even if the company went broke. Instead, always use the regular running fixed costs,
including payroll and normal expenses (total monthly Operating Expenses). This will give the
company a better insight on financial realities (Berry 2004.)Exhibit A, below, shows a 12 month
income statement for three levels of fixed costs: $50,000, $75,000, and $100,000. Variable costs

  • 2. How Does Mary Shelly Use Gothic Elements In Frankenstein Gothic novels came into place in the late seventeen hundreds betraying supernatural events, dishonor, death, and disaster. Gothic novels are significant, because it allows people to explore a different world through their own imagination, which condones hidden desires or curiosities. Frankenstein is a fine expression of a gothic novel where Mary Shelly uses different situations to have Victor Frankensteincreate a monster under the cloudy circumstances which victor gathers body parts for his experiments and the use of little known modern technologies for unnatural purposes (Harcourt 1), being unknown by man for Victors creations in showing suspenseful innovations, reflects on the elements of a gothic novel. Mary Shelly Frankenstein shows how Victor Frankenstein strives for knowledge to go against the laws of nature and natural order. The natural order of a human corps is to be born, lived, aged, and to die then decomposed, but by Victor creating a man like being from human corps, off sets the natural order of mankind. Soon realizing that his creation is far more advanced then he thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The Enchanted Ground While at Vanity Fair, Faithfulness was caught and was killed (Bunyan The Pilgrim s Progress 158). Christian was able to escape and was reminded that day that we as Christ followers need to be ready for anything including death in order to make a difference in the world. As Christian moves on he meets another man named Hope. Hope was an encouragement to Christian because he stressed that now he is changed and he relies only on Christ for his strength (Bunyan The Pilgrim s Progress 158). While they are together they talk about their journeys up to this point and both realize that they had actually met the same old wise man and were directed in the same place. They ponder at what the man had told them and were able to remember that he had told them that two was better than one because the one is more open to temptation. They find this advice to be helpful especially as they enter into the place called the Enchanted Ground. The Enchanted Ground is a ground that is so desirable, tempting, and often caused death. They recollect that because they are together they will not succumb to the temptation and will be able to make it through together. • 4. Outsider And Native People Essay Reflection #3 In this reading, the main topic is about the relationship between wildlife conservation policies (outsiders) and the native people Mt. Meru. Their situation is similar to what many natives must face in the developing world: policy making by outside people on land that was not theirs in the first place. Like the Native Americans of the Americas, Europeans migrated to Africa and settled in areas that they had no rights to. Despite there being people who have been there for many years, this was almost obsolete to them. They began creating policies to control the resources used in such areas. For example, this article speaks of tightening of state control over forest and wildlife resources on the mountain at the expense of existing customary rights... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cooperation cannot be reached because the policy makers aren t allowing the natives to have a word in anything that is done, despite the natives being affected by such decision 100 percent. They use the environment for their needs, and that is why much of the illegal poaching that is stated in the reading, is done by outside people . Cooperation from the administrators with the natives could prevent such actions from taking place, but instead, elephant numbers have fallen and black rhinoceros have apparently been extirpated (Neumann 1992). The park has put much of their policies over the lives of the people and this has caused a large divide in the community. Animals are a typical nuisance for the Meru people causing damage to their fields where food can no longer be harvested and eaten. They would then see poachers as a beneficial factor for them since the problems would be fixed and the natives would be going against the policy of the outsiders. • 5. Existentialism And The Absurd By Albert Camus In studying the works of authors, we are able to see the many factors that play a key role in their lives. These authors incorporate different components into their novels and stories to present a deeper meaning within their work. In his various books, short stories, and plays, the French Algerian writer Albert Camusrelates to his philosophical beliefs: specifically existentialismand the absurd, as well as his connecting idea of rebellion. Camus most prominent works such as the novels The Plague, The Stranger, The Rebel, and others reflect these beliefs and ideas he held. Though he was and continues to be considered as one, Camus made a point of rejecting the label of an existentialist. Existentialism is essentially based on the idea that philosophy starts with the acceptance of being an actual living human individual or the realization of existence. The term existence before essence basically means that the after this recognition of existence, the essence, or qualities and defining traits, will follow. In existentialism a fundamental belief is that each and every individual has the responsibility of applying their own meaning to life and genuinely living life through this specific purpose (Wikipedia contributors). In these aspects, many of Camus writings can therefore been seen as reflecting existentialism. In popular Greek myth, the character of Sisyphus is sent to Tartarus for tricking the gods. • 6. Cubicles Are Not Appropriate For Modern Offices Cubicles are not appropriate for modern offices. Instant and easy communication is built on teams working efficiently together. This necessitates an open work space environment. Currently cubicles prevent employees from communication. It is not hard to see that employees just call each other on phone every day. They even only know each other by sound rather than see each other ever. Open work spaceis needed now to boost the collaboration and provide more value to the satisfaction of the employees. Let us picture the open workspace. Instead of building costly concrete buildings, we will recreate the office environment. We will eliminate cubicles and set up open space for the employees. Employees would be able to work on a set of tasks together. For example, programmers in the company, most of the time, are in charge of only a small part of the whole project. If they cannot communicate well, it always doubles the time and the cost. In this respect, these key features make a good open space: п‚џMore whiteboard, comfortable bean sofa, multiple cafeterias, other places to read and work. Employees can move their desk and chairs rather than stay in the confined offices all day. п‚џMore areas that hold more than one person to encourage communication. п‚џPurpose free generic thinking areas in open plan spaces, which encourage workers to do their thinking in the presence of other people, rather than alone. п‚џTo protect privacy, private offices and meeting rooms will also be ... Why A Mass Murderer Commits A Crime Essay As usual, he was dressed in black that day, Jamie Rouse saw two female teachers talking in the hallway, so he silently progressed towards them, and shot both of the teachers in the head. Then with a grin, Jamie turned towards the school s football coach. Instead of hitting the coach Jamie tore a bullet through a student s throat. Sadly, sixteen year old Diane Collins ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. She died that day. According to a study, rampage killers usually talk long before their heinous plans to commit the murder. Also, in 54 of the 100 cases, shooters like Jamie gave direct blueprints of where, when, and who they predetermined to kill (Glaberson, and Goodstein). Others heard or saw the shooter go through earlier tendencies, signs of mental illnesses, and the people or places around the killerfailed to do anything about the shooter s plan. For fame, revenge, or simply a sense of belonging, there are many reasons why a mass murderer commits a crime. According to Andrea Bonior, she has a Ph. People denounce celebrities who have gotten that way for doing nothing, and we re rapid to take offense at people who ll do anything to get publicity. However, if I had a choice, there would have been no murder, but perhaps an act of cannibalism, if say the boy, Parker, died naturally. Furthermore, he was not consulted at all about his death. This will be discussed in the later paragrah. The rights of human beings therefore, are much more important than fulfilling the happiness of the stakeholders in this case, the family and friends of the men, the men themselves, the general public, and human right activists. In this situation, the four themselves would not want to die. For the three men, their families and friends would lose a loved one if any of them died. Assuming in those days, the father usually is the breadwinner of the family, losing him, would thus mean that the family would lose a source of income, and bread and butter on their table. This may lead to the mother having to work, or in a more severe situation, the children may have to work as well. One of the personas is a countryman in Hertfordshire named Jack Worthing, and the other is a dandy in London named Ernest. Wilde intentionally creates two different characters, which are contradictory to the reader s expectation whenever they first read the characters names. The name Ernest correlates with the actual definition of the adjective earnest, which means a person who is honest, serious, and sincere. Later in the play, Jack realizes his name is actually John, however both have the same connotation. Gwendolyn states in the first act, there is very little music in the name Jack... I ve known several Jacks, and they all without exception were more than usually plain (Wilde 25). Evidently, in the Victorian Era, a man with the name Jack or John was expected to be plain or a man who is not a dandy, but an ordinary man who has responsibilities. The names Wilde gave to his characters seem to be appropriate, however, once the reader dissects the play, the names Jack and Ernest would have been better applied to their counterparts. The brilliant title that Oscar Wilde gives his play is a pun in itself. • 26. Charles Dickens Great Expectations Essay Part of Myself : The Inability to Change in Dickens s Great Expectations In Great Expectations Dickens demonstrates that no matter what you go through, you are who you are. Dickens represents this with Pip, for he is the character who has undergo so many different personalities, yet found himself to be the same in the end. Pip attempted to change his life, despite social standing, and become a suitable gentleman for Estella. Sadly, he didn t get the social title nor did he get the girl. Pip never actually had a title for himself in the beginning, and throughout the novel, never discovered his self worth. This resulted in Pip essentially being a low class, mentally and physically abused nobody, who had dreamed of a beautiful life. The first, and most obvious side of Pip, is when he was a little boy. This is the most important part of Pip, this is who he starts as, and this is who Dickens ends the novel with. Pip grew up in a place that was unlike the normal Victorian household. His sister was no angel, she was mentally and physically abusive to Pip and her husband Joe. My sister s bringing up has made me sensitive. In the little world in which children have their existence whosoever brings them up, there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice. (63) His adult narrator perspective shows that he knows his upbringing was bad, and gives us an insight into how he felt. • 28. Good People David Foster Wallace Summary The Ambiance of Human Decency How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency. An analyte is the concentration of an unknown solution . A titrant is the concentration of a known solution. The glassware needed to perform a titration are a buret, a flask, and an indicator of pH meter. The buret sends the second reactant to the flask. An indicator detects the endpoint of this reaction. Standardization is the process in which you determine the concentration of the titrant before performing the titration. The laboratory method that is used to titrate an unknown strong acid solution is a titration. When you drop NaOH ions the OH ions unite with H ions creating water which leave less H ions in the solution making the solution less acidic. The more NaOH ions you add the solution will eventually change color due to the indicator. CHAPTER 5 DISCUSSION The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers perspectives about the practice of effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical practices. Study Implications The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the researcher s capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area of interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from which it comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the issue of study. It can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be large enough so that central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small sample size, it did not contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the sample size, there was a postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to the field would allow for a pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By containing such a small sample size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the past 5 years, it refuted the capability to essentially run the ... When looking at break evens it is also helpful to look at fixed and variable costs. Fixed overhead is steady and can be factored in quite accurately. Variable costs are not as simple to calculate but in many industries variable costs follow certain percentages or ratios so they are easier to project. According to Tim Berry, the Break even Analysis lets a manager determine what needs to be sold, monthly or annually, to cover the costs of doing business the actual break even point. The Break even Analysis depends on three key assumptions:1.Average per unit sales price (per unit revenue: This is the price that you receive per unit of sales2.Average per unit cost: This is the incremental cost, or variable cost, of each unit of sales. If you buy goods for resale, this is what you paid, on average, for the goods you sell. If you sell a service, this is what it costs you, per dollar of revenue or unit of service delivered, to deliver that service. 3.Monthly fixed costs: Technically, a break even analysis defines fixed costs as costs that would continue even if the company went broke. Instead, always use the regular running fixed costs, including payroll and normal expenses (total monthly Operating Expenses). This will give the company a better insight on financial realities (Berry 2004.)Exhibit A, below, shows a 12 month income statement for three levels of fixed costs: $50,000, $75,000, and $100,000.
