Dr Google can cause cyberchondria, therapy delays, and poor healthcare choices due to several factors:
- Sensational search results prioritize rare diseases
- Neglect of probability biases users towards alarming possibilities
- Choice architecture online does not consider behavioral science
Improving medical choice architecture and reducing sensationalism online could help address these issues. Designing interfaces and information presentation with behavioral science in mind may help users make better healthcare decisions. While verifying information is important, it is also necessary to guide users' perceptions and choices through sensitive design.
The document discusses how to make data analysis more actionable for business decision makers. It tells a story of a lost hot air balloonist who asks a camel rider for directions but receives too much precise data without any indication of what to do. This illustrates how analysis can provide accurate information without being useful to non-analysts. The document recommends analysts ask for the purpose of analyses, tailor findings to audiences by including insights, recommendations, and impacts, control interpretation of results, and follow up with decision makers.

Presentation given at the NIH-NIDDK Fourth Artificial Pancreas Workshop in Bethesda, MD. Makes the case for why device makers and cloud providers should publish their data and control protocols to foster an ecosystem of innovation, applications and interoperability for people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
This was a keynote address to Food and Farm Care in Saskatoon, SK Canada, December 14, 2016. The talk centered on strategies for ag producers to be more effective in communication at the public interface about any "hot button" issue in farming and food, issues like hormones, antibiotics, GMO or pesticides. There is a clear method to help the public understand how these technologies work, as well as their relative risk and benefit. A lot has to do with trust. This strategy speaks about these topics as well as how to be an improved voice in social media.

This document describes a new approach to curing diseases by identifying their true underlying causes. It claims that all diseases can be simply cured once their causes are known. The author presents a method for using electricity to selectively kill pathogens like bacteria, viruses and parasites, which are identified as the root causes of many common and rare diseases. Instructions are provided for building an electronic device called a "zapper" to kill these disease-causing microbes.

This document outlines the principles of participatory medicine as described by "e-Patient Dave" deBronkart. It discusses how access to information empowers patients and allows them to contribute to medical knowledge. When patients are informed and engaged in their care, they can perform better. The emergence of online communities and social media has created new opportunities for patients to connect with information and each other outside of traditional healthcare systems. True empowerment involves treating patients as partners in decisions about their own care.
This document provides instructions for curing cancer using herbal remedies and electrical devices. It claims that a parasitic worm called Fasciolopsis buskii is the single cause of all cancers. Following the identification of this parasite, the author set out to cure over 100 cases of cancer without surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. The instructions describe creating herbal parasite remedies and two electronic circuits - one to diagnose cancer and monitor treatment, the other to "zap parasites and bacteria." The document outlines a parasite elimination program and maintenance plan, along with case histories of purported cancer cures.

The document discusses finding health information online and discussing what is found with doctors. It notes that searching by symptoms online does not yield as accurate results as searching by diagnosis. When discussing information found online with doctors, patients should ask for their advice on trustworthy resources rather than apologizing for looking online. If doctors do not support patients looking online for information, patients may need to find a new doctor. Wikipedia can be as accurate as textbooks for some medical topics like cancer, mental health, and drugs, but may be less readable. The document provides advice on discussing different health topics found online, such as diabetes, with doctors.

This document discusses how to effectively change human behavior. It explains that behavior is influenced by two systems: the rational "Rider" and the emotional "Elephant". The Rider thinks logically about the future, while the Elephant focuses on immediate rewards and feelings. To motivate behavior change, one must appeal to the Elephant by making rewards more visible, tangible, and immediate. The document provides examples of how to do this for behaviors like exercise, dieting, and work projects. It also discusses using social influences, implementation plans, and success stories to guide the Elephant toward better long-term decisions.
- Dave deBronkart became an "e-patient" after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2007. He actively researched his condition online, connected with other patients, and tracked his own health data.
- deBronkart argues that patients can serve as a valuable resource in healthcare if they are engaged, empowered with information, and able to help improve the system. When patients are informed partners it can lead to better outcomes.
- However, some doctors are hesitant about patients having more access to health information and participating more actively. But studies show that when patients can see doctor's notes online it improves the patient-doctor relationship without increasing doctor workload.

5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
