The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water And...
The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) recently released a
working paper identifying findings that support new tactics for habit change in open defecation
behavior. These advances draw from the fields of psychology, cognitive science, and behavioral
science and were first outlined in the 2015 World Development Report (WDR) on Mind, Society, and
Behavior. WDR presents new insight into how people make decisions: thinking automatically,
thinking socially, and thinking with mental models, and highlights the potential of future policy
approaches that influence behavior while forgoing the assumption of individuals as rational decision
makers.
Open Defecation in India
Of the nearly one billion people across the globe who openly defecate, over half live in India. Despite
meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for water access, India achieved only
moderate progress in improvements to sanitation and reduction of open defecation. As of 2011, 49.8
percent of Indians still defecated in the open, and, although the number is decreasing, progress
remains slow in rural areas of the country and significant gaps remain between the rich and poor.
In 2014, Prime Minister Modi prioritized an initiative to place a toilet in every household in the
country by 2019 and provided 8 million toilets in the first year alone. Yet, simply providing toilets
does not ensure their use. Although infrastructure and access to proper latrines and other

Character Analysis of Rikki Tikki Tavi
A famous English novelist named William MakepeaceThackeray once said bravery never goes out of
fashion, (BrainyQuote.com). Thackeray mainly shows that bravery is always right, and showing
bravery is even more significant. Rudyard Kipling s short story Rikki tikki tavi definitely illustrates
the importance of bravery. In this story, Rikki, a young mongoose, fights two malevolent and
threatening snakes in order to keep the garden secure. Rudyard Kipling sets this story as well as most
of his best stories in India, his birthplace (Allen 77). This author has written so many exceptional
stories that he received a Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1907 (Allen 77). Rudyard Kipling
develops the theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This example shows that Rikki portrays loyalty by protecting the family and making sure that nothing
would come into the bungalow and harm them. Rudyard Kipling further describes Rikki s loyalty to
his family by showing that Teddy s father trusts Rikki to be loyal and respect him (Kipling 80). Teddy
s father shows his trust when he says Teddy is safer with that little beast than is he has a bloodhound
to watch him. If a snake came into the nursery now (Kipling 80). Rikki is also loyal to his mongoose
beliefs. Rikki refuses to eat because he remembers that a full meal makes a slow mongoose (Kipling
84). Rikki s dedication to his family and traditions bring out his true loyalty.
Rikki is not only a loyal mongoose, he is very curious. Kipling shows Rikkis curiosity when
describing him saying: Rikki is curious and not easily frightened, (Kipling 80). This shows that Rikki
is not scared because he is so curious that nothing frightens him. Rudyard Kipling also mentions Rikki
s curiosity by another description saying that mongooses are naturally curious, and Rikki is a true
mongoose (Kipling 80). This shows that Rikki does take after true mongooses nature of being curious.
Rikki also says that he must attend to every noise he hears. Rikki s alert and thirst to find out
information in the garden shows curiosity. Basically, if Rikki hears or sees something unusual he must
investigate no matter how dangerous it could be.
In conclusion, Rudyard

Concussions In Sports Narrative
October 16th 2013 I was at work performing my normal duties, when as I lifted on a box to put it on a
self above my head, I felt and heard a tearing/popping sound coming from my left shoulder. I was in
serious pain after that. My employer had me feel out an accident report, and then sent me to their
doctor. After being examined by the doctor, I was told that I just strained my left shoulder and put me
on a temporary restriction, which limited the amount of weight I could lift. I was also told to come
back for physical therapy once a week. After 5 weeks of physical therapy and with the pain almost
unbearable, I decided to go to my own doctor. My doctor examined me and immediately scheduled an
MRI. The MRI showed that I had a tear down the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay
In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread
attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as sinful,
the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a
collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam
War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies . This
paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, California and
illustrate how the hippie counterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in the making of
protest songs and the new psychedelic sound. It will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Haight Ashbury had a history of being an entertainment center, capitalizing on San Francisco s
economic success in the Gold Rush.
In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its
Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving
disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of
dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of
thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie
movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the
hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political
activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William
L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture.
Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and
elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing,
planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight
against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R.

The Between Christ And Disciples
Jesus was on travel, to the place called Caesarea Philippi. Before we talk about other important things
that we can find from the conversation between Christ and disciples, I like to talk about this city.
Caesarea Philippi was the location the Cave of Pan, the place of the pagan Gate of Hades. It was in
this area that the first king of Israel (Jeroboam) led the northern kingdom of Israel into idolatry. This
was also the same place where the Greeks and Romans received revelations from the god Pan who
was mentioned in classical writings as a seer or fortune teller and a giver of revelations. This city was
originally under the control of Romans, however, by the Romans, control got transferred to Herod the
Great (Israelite king) in 20 B.C., who subsequently built a temple there to Caesar Augustus. (Yes, this
is the same Herod who professed to be Jewish and paid to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem). Following
Herod s death in 4 B.C., his son Philip assumed control of this region. It was he that later renamed the
town to Caesarea Philippi, in honor of (Caesar) Tiberius and himself. In other words, this whole place
was a symbol of idolization.
In this place, Jesus asked two questions to disciples. Which were, Who do people say that I am? and
Who do you say that I am? To that question, disciples gives an different answers that they have heard,
which was John the Baptistl Elijah, or prophets. For those of us who are sitting in this chair today,

The Story Of Cinderella Retold As A Military Engagement
The story of Cinderella retold as a military engagement. Once upon a time, there was a group of
Marine reserves, 4th Division. Being given the some of the toughest training available by what they
thought of as their evil superiors. Day after day they had to scrub the barracks, keep the grounds clean,
stand on sentry duty all night long, plus having all their physical training for hours. Word was received
that the 2nd, 5th, and 6th Marine division were to spearhead an attack on a castle which was being
used as an enemy stronghold. The Big Brass knew through intelligence that there were between 5
7,000 troops in that castle, but the 2nd, 5th, and 6th had fought through much worse before. So no
reserves were to be needed. When this news was heard the Marine reserves were sorely disappointed,
for they were anxious to get in on the action. D day was set for September 2; H hour was 2400. Then
the news came that the 2nd Marine division could not take part, and it was D 4. The Marine reserves
were to be deployed immediately. At 2200 hours, D day, they were completely prepared to attack.
Assembled a quarter mile from the castle walls, the Marines had set up artillery pieces. Giant 155mm
M114s, and 105mm M101s were ready to start pounding the walls. Meanwhile, inside the castle, all of
the enemies top military Generals were gathered along with the King and the Prince to devise a
defence plan. There was nothing the Marines wanted to do more than meet the Prince, who was an

Literature Review On Cost Management
Literature Review By reviewing the literature there is a different approach to this issue, a new way of
thinking and acting towards cost management as a beneficiary of multiple opportunities and provides
assurance of significant success. Various authors, after detailed research and supporting facts have
reasonably concluded that the strategic way of managing cost in most cases is an undisputed necessity
which reference should definitely order to achieve the required effect and gained competitive
advantage in today s dynamic business environment. Academic authors have stressed that the
importance of strategic cost management has grown dramatically in recent years due to intensified
competition. Kaplan and Norton (1997); Shank and Govindarajan (1997), in general, are honor
authors cited most when it comes to achieving competitive advantage through strategic cost
management. Strategic cost management in the literature is discussed from many aspects. Many

Hinterhuber interviewed executives of European companies about strategic cost management and
concluded that strategic cost management should be part of business strategy in order to achieve a
radical and long term growth of the company value. According McIlhattan (1992), strategic cost
management is the ability of management costs. While Horngren (2000: 3) noted that cost
management is not applied in particular. Cost management has a broad focus. For example, cost
management involves continuous reduction of costs. Horgen and Mcllhattan define strategic cost
management as a set of actions that managers take to satisfy customers through constant control and
reducing costs.

Building A Sustainable Green Hotel
In recent years, environmental issues are being a fundamental topic around the world as the public
have been aware of the risks to our planet because of the harmful human being, such as deforestation,
over consumption of energy, different kinds of pollution, over construction, which are incurring
serious climate change and global warming. The replacement on the Millenium Development Goals to
17 sustainable development goals also alerted people to concern about how to make a better
environment in a sustainable way under a high density urban city, where there are constructions
contributed to this community. Especially in hotel industry, a surge of travelers leaded to the increase
of hotel, which required plenty of land, energy and resources to achieve this huge demand. However,
there are several factors we need to consider before the launch of the project, which are how to design
a sustainable green hotel with a long term vision instead of becoming a stranded asset in the future.
So, in the following is my location and design of my hotel, considering environmental factors and
integrating five sustainable development principles in my concept.
My hotel will launch a long term vision called Love the Earth which is related to green management
topic. It is committed to lead our hotel into a new stage towards sustainability development so as to
provide a better world for our generation in the future. With this mutual commitment as for the
companies and individuals, we would

Morse V Frederick Case Brief
A student group in Des Moines school district met at Christopher Eckhardt s (a 16 year old student s)
home to plan a public display of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. They decided on wearing
black armbands throughout the entire duration of the holiday season, and fasting on December 16,
1965 and New Year s Eve. The school district created a policy that stated any student wearing an
armband would be asked to remove it, with refusal to do so resulting in suspension. Eckhardt and
Mary Beth Tinker both wore the planned black armbands to school and were sent home, with John
Tinker following the next day. The parents of the three students sued the school district for violating
their rights of expression. What was the Supreme Court s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic Facts Behind Morse v. Frederick Student Joseph Frederick held a banner that said Bong Hits 4
Jesus during a school event. The banner was confiscated by the principal, Deborah Morse, and
Frederick was suspended for ten days. Deborah justified the confiscation of the banner and the
suspension of Joseph Frederick by mentioning a policy set by the school that doesn t allow the display
of material that advertises the consumption of illegal drugs. Joseph Frederick sued, claiming this
suspension and confiscation of his banner violated his right to free speech (42 U.S.C. 1983) The
Tinker v. Des Moines trial was cited, that extended 1st Amendment s protection to free speech in
students, unless the speech would cause some level of disturbance. Court Decision The court decided
that school officials are allowed to prohibit messages that promotes the use of illegal drugs. Although
students have the right to some political speech while in school, this right does not cover pro drug
messages that could interfere with the school s discouragement of drug

Lactase Intolerance
Only one third of the human population is capable of digesting lactose, which is the sugar found in
milk. This is most likely because only certain societies amongst the globe domesticated cows for a
food and income source around ten thousand years ago. People who had ancestors that were apart of
these communities are more likely to be lactase persistent than those who do not. Communities such
as these were often seen in places such as Europe and Africa, which can likely be an explanation for
why lactase persistence is often found in those with European and African ancestry, while those with
Asian backgrounds are often lactase intolerant.
Lactose, which is the main sugar in milk, is very difficult for the small intestine to process. Because of
this, cells are required to make an enzyme referred to as lactase, which is only found in newly born
mammals, along with lactase persistent adult mammals. Lactase then breaks lactose into glucose and
galactose, possibly through the process of hydrolysis, and then the two sugars are entered into the
blood stream where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The lactase persistent mutation found in Europe was almost nonexistent in Africa. A different mutation
was found, but it was still seen in the lactase gene and allowed African adults to digest milk. Both
European and African backgrounds evolved independently, with two different mutations that
essentially allowed them to do the same thing. This can be considered a great example of evolution
and adaption in two different parts of the

Holden Caulfield Character Analysis
Many authors express themselves through their characters within their books. They create a writing
piece through their eyes of the world. They often reflect their own personal experiences through a
character. This makes the text more interesting to read, and easier to understand. A reader can make
connections to the story, if there are real world experiences within a character. J.D Salinger s The
Catcher in the Rye, serves as an example for this. Holden Caulfield, the main character, is very
opinionated and rebellious. Holden has a rough childhood, and experiences many ups and downs. He
has a hard time staying at one school, and staying out of trouble. J.D. Salinger has many similarities in
his life to Holden. Salinger uses many of his personal life experiences to form Holden s character and
personality. To begin with, The Catcher in the Rye begins with Holden at a football game against
Saxon Hall. Holden is getting kicked out of Pency Prep, and leaving fencing equipment on the subway
did not help. The dean had warned him once before, but Holden did not care. He was flunking all of
his classes except one, and failed to bring them up. Holden does not like his roommate, Stradlater.
Stradlater is a tall, handsome, fit, and perfect on the outside guy but not so perfect in secret. Holden
thinks Stradlater is a secret slob, and a phony. Stradlater shaves his face with dirty razors and passes
gas. This is why Holden calls him a secret slob. Next, Stradlater takes out

Research Paper On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal genetic disorder that is caused by mutations in the
gene DMD, which encodes the muscle protein, dystrophin. Dystrophin protein is crucial to preserve
the strength, stability, and flexibility of muscle fibers, which protects them from injury as they
contract and relax. The DMD gene is primarily located in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy is caused by mutations in the gene that produce premature stop codons. The
premature stop codons work to bring protein synthesis to a halt, resulting in a greatly shortened and
nonfunctional form of dystrophin (Pierce, 2013, pg. 286). According to the Muscular Dystrophy
Association (2016), Individuals with DMD experience rapid progressive ... Show more content on

Most individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy have a deletion or duplication mutation. These
mutations eliminate dystrophin function by interrupting the reading frame or by producing a
premature stop codon. Scheuerbrandt (2013) explains if the mutation alters the reading frame by one
or two nucleotides, then a whole thread of incorrect amino acids is incorporated beginning at the
mutation site until a premature stop codon is reached, which will then prematurely terminate the
translation. Therefore, the incomplete dystrophin cannot fulfill its normal function and Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy

Because Steph Curry and Klay Thompson (not the entire Warriors team) are fun to watch, I think
Golden State is getting a hate pass. Is a hate pass a thing? A little more than a week ago, the
Milwaukee Bucks snapped Golden State s 28 game regular season win streak. As I basked in the tiny
moral victory, during a regular season in which the Cavs could finish .500 and I wouldn t care as long
as they were healthy, the Warriors whined like school children during a middle school recess touch
football game after the loss. The Warriors were upset with the Bucks celebration after Milwaukee

The Ten Commandments Of Christianity
The Ten Commandments address the most important aspects of life for a Christian, they instruct
people not to murder, commit adultery, lie, and be honorable. They also instruct people most
importantly to only worship one god, and that is God the Father.
Christianity has deep roots in social justice, and Christians are directed to care for those that are poor,
and those that are afflicted. They are also directed to care for those that have no support system, or are
less fortunate than themselves. The model of behavior people are supposed to follow is that of Jesus,
who reflected God s sense of justice. A main component to Christianity is bringing the gospel of Jesus
to those of us that are less fortunate.

Impact Of The King Of Jazz
INTRODUCTION The term King of Jazz was widely use at Jazz Age. 1920s, James Reese Europe
and Paul Whiteman have been labelled as King of Jazz by mass media as they had done something
very significant in jazz history. This term, King of Jazz, also allowed them being recognised and
discussed a lot by public at that time, their music also being concerned and heard by a lot of people.
Although most of the society agreed on them, criticisms still occurred. Those criticisms came from
black musicians who thought they were only the real musicians and their music were the only real
Jazz. James Reese Europe was prominent in emerging black musical in theatre, he led the very first all
black musicians orchestra to performance in Carnegie Hall. Whereas Paul Whiteman had organised
An Experiment in Modern Music that intended to make a lady out of jazz at the time. Mass media or
even their publicity team used the term, King of Jazz, to arouse the crowds and evoke their concern
about jazz music. Although it was such a big issue at that time, presence of Louis Armstrong, Duke

Lincoln s Plan For Reconstruction Essay
Abraham Lincoln is credited to be the reason the Union won the civil war. His death and lack of
leadership, rise of the radical republican power, and southern refusal to accept northern policies can
arguably be the reason reconstruction failed. After the Union won the war the next task to be
addressed was how to readmit the south into the union. Lincoln set the standard in his 1865 second
inaugural address stating malice towards none, and charity for all . These words would be remembered
in the following years as people, like Johnson, look to Lincoln s ideals during the reconstruction years.
Lincoln s plan for reconstruction supported the idea of a strongly governed united country. Lincoln
was one of the few to recognize that one needed to look past personal glory, and instead, do what was
best for the country as a whole (Herman Belz pg.5). However, because of Lincoln s untimely
assassination in 1865, the newly re formed United States was left in the hands ... Show more content

They saw the acts as a blatant attempt to end their standard of living (Franklin pg72). The south found
ways to avoid the new laws passed, such as the creation of share cropping instead of slavery. Also the
use of intimidation groups like the Ku Klux Klan to scare the newly freed black population and
discourage their participation in the voting process (Franklin pg.68).
The post civil war reconstruction effort was hindered greatly by the unrest in the government. The
country desperately needed leadership to gain unity, but instead there was conflict at the highest level
of leadership, making it impossible for the north and south to unify quickly. The many acts imposed
by the radical republicans during this period contributed to the unrest of the south and ultimately the
failure of post civil war reconstitution in the United States.

Keirsey Temperament Test Analysis
Filling out bubbles, circling answers, rating descriptions; taking tests is one of the various ways to
learn about yourself. According to science, the Keirsey Temperament Test should be one of the the
most correct personality tests crafted. After taking three various personality tests in my English class,
the True Colors, the Keirsey, and the Tibetan test, I surmised that the Keirsey Temperament Test was
the most exact regarding my character and attributes. It was especially valid in extrapolating that I am
very dependable, thorough, and serious. Some may claim that science cannot tell you who you are,
because it is our emotions that rein us. Overall, though the other tests were somewhat precise; this one
most reflected my personality.
Firstly, this test was correct because it stated that I persevere and am a dependable person. Last year,
for example, I was put in charge of choir quite often since I prefer to stay on task and people trust me.

Nymph Of The Luo River
In the Nymph of the Luo River, along with the love story of Cao Zhi (曹植), Gu (顧愷之)was good at

character. This woman is called fú fēi (洛神), her expression suggest a sense of gloominess and
sorrow, but at the same time, her waving drapery bring out her unique characteristic and her divine
temperament. In the middle of the hand scroll, the emperor Cao is standing there on the riverside,
watching fú fēi leaving him. The story is a well known tragedy and it was a master work by Gu

The Causes And Abuse Of The Catholic Church
Catholic religion is one of the oldest religions, highly practiced in the United States. It is a religion
with a set of beliefs such as practicing celibacy among the priests and nuns. Each and every state in
America has several parishes and a bishop that oversees the operations of the churches in those said
regions. For instance, in the State of Phoenix, there is a bishop with several priests in every parish
handling the operations of the churches. The Catholics follow a set of beliefs and traditions that mirror
the morality in the society. However, these beliefs are being eroded by the some of the followers in
various parts of the world. In fact, the Catholic Church has become a subject of serious allegations of
child sexual abuse at the hands of the clergy. Several cases have occurred globally even the most high
profile cases occurring in Europe and America. Majority of the people ha come forward and reported
the incidents of clerical sexual misconducts. They have done so under investigative reporting talking
about years of abuse on the part of the priests together with cover ups and patterns of secrecy by
church officials that aided in allowing these accused priests in continuing to their ministries in the
various parishes and this involved interaction with mirrors. Canonical, civil, and criminal sanctions
have been directed to several bishops, priests, and even dioceses. However, there are those that have

Informative Essay On Shark Killer
Have you ever been scared of a shark? If you have, you really shouldn t be. While many of us have

Marine biologists use many different research methods in order to study sharks. But the most common
one is tagging. Tags are an important tool used to study the behavior of sharks. Tagging sharks

Due to overexploitation and lack of proper management, many shark species are under considerable
risk of unrecoverable decline with some species having declined to near extinction in recent years.
According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273 million worldwide per
year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate many species will be lost
forever with potentially devastating implications for our ocean ecosystems. If shark population is
threatened, it could take a very long time to recover. Sharks are a keystone species which means they
are at the top of the food chain and are an apex predator. Removing them could make the whole
structure collapse. Sharks regulate the behavior of prey species, and prevent them from over grazing
vital habitats. Some shark researchers believe that the intimidation factor caused by sharks may
actually have more of an impact on the ecosystem than what sharks actually eat. For example,
scientists in Hawaii found that tiger sharks had a positive impact on the health of sea grass beds.
Turtles, which are the tiger sharks prey, graze on sea grass. In the absence of tiger sharks, the turtles
spent all of their time grazing on the best quality, most nutritious sea grass, and these habitats were
soon destroyed. When tiger sharks

Humanist Art And Philosophy Of The Renaissance
Humanist Art and Philosophy of the Renaissance
Throughout the ages, people have sought for wisdom and truth through philosophical discovery. The
work of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and the other ancient thinkers have bewildered and amazed people
through centuries of study and analysis. However, with the shift of time and belief systems, the central
focus of the European culture concerned not secular wisdom but divine inspiration, causing for the
period we now refer to as the Dark Ages. But as the flame of the church began to be dampened by
suffering and new Humanistic ideals, people like the immensely influential Marsilio Ficino began to
share the ideas of antiquity once again. A Renaissance, or rebirth, of the human intellect was
instigated, and with that came the invigoration of artistic pursuit. Reflecting the thinking of
philosophers of the time, painters and sculptors like Titian, Michelangelo and Raphael used their craft
to advertise this wisdom to the masses. The philosophy of Marsilio Ficino overlapped with the
symbolism of famous paintings privy to the Humanism of the Renaissance. Ancient philosophers were
a tremendous inspiration to the people of the Renaissance this is perhaps made most apparent in
Raphael s School of Athens, a mural painted in the library of a Papal Apartment in the Vatican
between the year 1509 and 1511. The scene depicts a congregation of philosophers from the past
interspersed with High Renaissance artists and patrons. In the centre

Stereotyping In Anney Boatwright s Bastards Out Of Carolina

this is called stereotyping. Stereotyping involves making generalizations to describe or differentiate a

It is evident that gender stereotypes limit women to culturally suitable gender roles and behaviors
while denouncing those who decide not to conform to such roles or behaviors. In Ann Petry s The
Street stereotypes deny Lutie of jobs that will provide financial stability for freedom. Lutie took the
civil service exam and was still only able to get a lower level government job. Black people are
stereotyped as being lazy and unintelligent which only left them with jobs such as shining shoes and
washing clothes and scrubbing floors for years and years...the hard work. The dirty work. The work
that pays the least. (70). Lutie is use to it though because she has no other option. Women are often
stereotyped for only being good for sex. When Lutie applies for different jobs there is always an alter

Bartleby demonstrates the ability to work well when given strict structural guidelines. A main job of

that adults with autism possess the ability to be self sufficient members of society given certain

women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all
women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2].

After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in
luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now
termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining
and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of
progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in
oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces
menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with
significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen
and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various
benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of
COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in
the U.K. (table. 1), TriNovum was found to have a pearl index[1] (PI) value of 1.0 in a large phase III

  • 2. The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water And... The World Bank Water Global Practice s Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) recently released a working paper identifying findings that support new tactics for habit change in open defecation behavior. These advances draw from the fields of psychology, cognitive science, and behavioral science and were first outlined in the 2015 World Development Report (WDR) on Mind, Society, and Behavior. WDR presents new insight into how people make decisions: thinking automatically, thinking socially, and thinking with mental models, and highlights the potential of future policy approaches that influence behavior while forgoing the assumption of individuals as rational decision makers. Open Defecation in India Of the nearly one billion people across the globe who openly defecate, over half live in India. Despite meeting the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for water access, India achieved only moderate progress in improvements to sanitation and reduction of open defecation. As of 2011, 49.8 percent of Indians still defecated in the open, and, although the number is decreasing, progress remains slow in rural areas of the country and significant gaps remain between the rich and poor. In 2014, Prime Minister Modi prioritized an initiative to place a toilet in every household in the country by 2019 and provided 8 million toilets in the first year alone. Yet, simply providing toilets does not ensure their use. Although infrastructure and access to proper latrines and other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bravery Never Goes Out of Fashion in named William... Character Analysis of Rikki Tikki Tavi A famous English novelist named William MakepeaceThackeray once said bravery never goes out of fashion, (BrainyQuote.com). Thackeray mainly shows that bravery is always right, and showing bravery is even more significant. Rudyard Kipling s short story Rikki tikki tavi definitely illustrates the importance of bravery. In this story, Rikki, a young mongoose, fights two malevolent and threatening snakes in order to keep the garden secure. Rudyard Kipling sets this story as well as most of his best stories in India, his birthplace (Allen 77). This author has written so many exceptional stories that he received a Nobel Peace Prize for literature in 1907 (Allen 77). Rudyard Kipling develops the theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This example shows that Rikki portrays loyalty by protecting the family and making sure that nothing would come into the bungalow and harm them. Rudyard Kipling further describes Rikki s loyalty to his family by showing that Teddy s father trusts Rikki to be loyal and respect him (Kipling 80). Teddy s father shows his trust when he says Teddy is safer with that little beast than is he has a bloodhound to watch him. If a snake came into the nursery now (Kipling 80). Rikki is also loyal to his mongoose beliefs. Rikki refuses to eat because he remembers that a full meal makes a slow mongoose (Kipling 84). Rikki s dedication to his family and traditions bring out his true loyalty. Rikki is not only a loyal mongoose, he is very curious. Kipling shows Rikkis curiosity when describing him saying: Rikki is curious and not easily frightened, (Kipling 80). This shows that Rikki is not scared because he is so curious that nothing frightens him. Rudyard Kipling also mentions Rikki s curiosity by another description saying that mongooses are naturally curious, and Rikki is a true mongoose (Kipling 80). This shows that Rikki does take after true mongooses nature of being curious. Rikki also says that he must attend to every noise he hears. Rikki s alert and thirst to find out information in the garden shows curiosity. Basically, if Rikki hears or sees something unusual he must investigate no matter how dangerous it could be. Concussions In Sports Narrative October 16th 2013 I was at work performing my normal duties, when as I lifted on a box to put it on a self above my head, I felt and heard a tearing/popping sound coming from my left shoulder. I was in serious pain after that. My employer had me feel out an accident report, and then sent me to their doctor. After being examined by the doctor, I was told that I just strained my left shoulder and put me on a temporary restriction, which limited the amount of weight I could lift. I was also told to come back for physical therapy once a week. After 5 weeks of physical therapy and with the pain almost unbearable, I decided to go to my own doctor. • 5. How the Hippies Counterculture Transformed Music Essay In the 1950 s and 1960 s, rebellion and music were synonymous. The 1950 s brought widespread attention to a new kind of music coined as Rock n Roll . Because parents deemed the music as sinful, the youth used it to establish an identity for themselvess. In the 1960 s, the rebellion was given a collective charge when young adults voiced displeasure over the country s entrance into the Vietnam War and the use of nuclear weapons. One group within this movement was coined the hippies . This paper will discuss the beliefs of the hippies of Haight Ashbury in San Francisco, California and illustrate how the hippie counterculture transformed into an evolution of music, in the making of protest songs and the new psychedelic sound. It will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haight Ashbury had a history of being an entertainment center, capitalizing on San Francisco s economic success in the Gold Rush. In his book titled The Making of a Counterculture: Reflections on the Technocratic Society and Its Youthful Opposition, historian Theodore Roszak described a counterculture as typically involving disapproval or an attempted dismissal of those institutions which presently hold some level of dominance, while simultaneously having hope for an improved life in a new society, in terms of thinking and being. There has been some level of debate, discussing whether or not the hippie movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s matched this definition. Was the movement solely a product of the hippie s clustered university lifestyle, where common experimentation with drugs as well as political activism served as their own sources of rebellion? This notion was argued by anthropologist William L. Partridge, in his case study titled The Hippie Ghetto: The Natural History of a Subculture. Roszak argues in his book about a hippie rejection of technocracy: the system of organizations and elite experts that influences society to attach itself to the importance of efficiency, rationalizing, planning, and necessity, which hippies felt was clearly depicted by the nuclear arms race and fight against communism between the United States and U.S.S.R. ... • 6. The Between Christ And Disciples Jesus was on travel, to the place called Caesarea Philippi. Before we talk about other important things that we can find from the conversation between Christ and disciples, I like to talk about this city. Caesarea Philippi was the location the Cave of Pan, the place of the pagan Gate of Hades. It was in this area that the first king of Israel (Jeroboam) led the northern kingdom of Israel into idolatry. This was also the same place where the Greeks and Romans received revelations from the god Pan who was mentioned in classical writings as a seer or fortune teller and a giver of revelations. This city was originally under the control of Romans, however, by the Romans, control got transferred to Herod the Great (Israelite king) in 20 B.C., who subsequently built a temple there to Caesar Augustus. (Yes, this is the same Herod who professed to be Jewish and paid to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem). Following Herod s death in 4 B.C., his son Philip assumed control of this region. It was he that later renamed the town to Caesarea Philippi, in honor of (Caesar) Tiberius and himself. In other words, this whole place was a symbol of idolization. In this place, Jesus asked two questions to disciples. Which were, Who do people say that I am? and Who do you say that I am? To that question, disciples gives an different answers that they have heard, which was John the Baptistl Elijah, or prophets. Being given the some of the toughest training available by what they thought of as their evil superiors. Day after day they had to scrub the barracks, keep the grounds clean, stand on sentry duty all night long, plus having all their physical training for hours. Word was received that the 2nd, 5th, and 6th Marine division were to spearhead an attack on a castle which was being used as an enemy stronghold. The Big Brass knew through intelligence that there were between 5 7,000 troops in that castle, but the 2nd, 5th, and 6th had fought through much worse before. So no reserves were to be needed. When this news was heard the Marine reserves were sorely disappointed, for they were anxious to get in on the action. D day was set for September 2; H hour was 2400. Then the news came that the 2nd Marine division could not take part, and it was D 4. The Marine reserves were to be deployed immediately. At 2200 hours, D day, they were completely prepared to attack. Assembled a quarter mile from the castle walls, the Marines had set up artillery pieces. Giant 155mm M114s, and 105mm M101s were ready to start pounding the walls. Building A Sustainable Green Hotel In recent years, environmental issues are being a fundamental topic around the world as the public have been aware of the risks to our planet because of the harmful human being, such as deforestation, over consumption of energy, different kinds of pollution, over construction, which are incurring serious climate change and global warming. The replacement on the Millenium Development Goals to 17 sustainable development goals also alerted people to concern about how to make a better environment in a sustainable way under a high density urban city, where there are constructions contributed to this community. Especially in hotel industry, a surge of travelers leaded to the increase of hotel, which required plenty of land, energy and resources to achieve this huge demand. However, there are several factors we need to consider before the launch of the project, which are how to design a sustainable green hotel with a long term vision instead of becoming a stranded asset in the future. • 13. Lactase Intolerance Only one third of the human population is capable of digesting lactose, which is the sugar found in milk. This is most likely because only certain societies amongst the globe domesticated cows for a food and income source around ten thousand years ago. People who had ancestors that were apart of these communities are more likely to be lactase persistent than those who do not. Communities such as these were often seen in places such as Europe and Africa, which can likely be an explanation for why lactase persistence is often found in those with European and African ancestry, while those with Asian backgrounds are often lactase intolerant. Lactose, which is the main sugar in milk, is very difficult for the small intestine to process. Because of this, cells are required to make an enzyme referred to as lactase, which is only found in newly born mammals, along with lactase persistent adult mammals. Lactase then breaks lactose into glucose and galactose, possibly through the process of hydrolysis, and then the two sugars are entered into the blood stream where ... • 14. Holden Caulfield Character Analysis Many authors express themselves through their characters within their books. They create a writing piece through their eyes of the world. They often reflect their own personal experiences through a character. This makes the text more interesting to read, and easier to understand. A reader can make connections to the story, if there are real world experiences within a character. J.D Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, serves as an example for this. Holden Caulfield, the main character, is very opinionated and rebellious. Holden has a rough childhood, and experiences many ups and downs. He has a hard time staying at one school, and staying out of trouble. J.D. Salinger has many similarities in his life to Holden. Salinger uses many of his personal life experiences to form Holden s character and personality. To begin with, The Catcher in the Rye begins with Holden at a football game against Saxon Hall. Holden is getting kicked out of Pency Prep, and leaving fencing equipment on the subway did not help. The dean had warned him once before, but Holden did not care. He was flunking all of his classes except one, and failed to bring them up. Holden does not like his roommate, Stradlater. Stradlater is a tall, handsome, fit, and perfect on the outside guy but not so perfect in secret. Holden thinks Stradlater is a secret slob, and a phony. • 15. Research Paper On Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a fatal genetic disorder that is caused by mutations in the gene DMD, which encodes the muscle protein, dystrophin. Dystrophin protein is crucial to preserve the strength, stability, and flexibility of muscle fibers, which protects them from injury as they contract and relax. The DMD gene is primarily located in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is caused by mutations in the gene that produce premature stop codons. The premature stop codons work to bring protein synthesis to a halt, resulting in a greatly shortened and nonfunctional form of dystrophin (Pierce, 2013, pg. 286). According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (2016), Individuals with DMD experience rapid progressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most individuals with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy have a deletion or duplication mutation. Therefore, the incomplete dystrophin cannot fulfill its normal function and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His death and lack of leadership, rise of the radical republican power, and southern refusal to accept northern policies can arguably be the reason reconstruction failed. After the Union won the war the next task to be addressed was how to readmit the south into the union. Lincoln set the standard in his 1865 second inaugural address stating malice towards none, and charity for all . These words would be remembered in the following years as people, like Johnson, look to Lincoln s ideals during the reconstruction years. Lincoln s plan for reconstruction supported the idea of a strongly governed united country. Lincoln was one of the few to recognize that one needed to look past personal glory, and instead, do what was best for the country as a whole (Herman Belz pg.5). Due to overexploitation and lack of proper management, many shark species are under considerable risk of unrecoverable decline with some species having declined to near extinction in recent years. According to reports, sharks are being killed at an alarming rate of up to 273 million worldwide per year. Some experts predict that if the killing continues at the current rate many species will be lost forever with potentially devastating implications for our ocean ecosystems. If shark population is threatened, it could take a very long time to recover. Sharks are a keystone species which means they are at the top of the food chain and are an apex predator. Removing them could make the whole structure collapse. Sharks regulate the behavior of prey species, and prevent them from over grazing vital habitats. Some shark researchers believe that the intimidation factor caused by sharks may actually have more of an impact on the ecosystem than what sharks actually eat. For example, scientists in Hawaii found that tiger sharks had a positive impact on the health of sea grass beds. Turtles, which are the tiger sharks prey, graze on sea grass. In the absence of tiger sharks, the turtles spent all of their time grazing on the best quality, most nutritious sea grass, and these habitats were soon destroyed. When tiger sharks ... • 34. Humanist Art And Philosophy Of The Renaissance Humanist Art and Philosophy of the Renaissance Throughout the ages, people have sought for wisdom and truth through philosophical discovery. The work of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and the other ancient thinkers have bewildered and amazed people through centuries of study and analysis. However, with the shift of time and belief systems, the central focus of the European culture concerned not secular wisdom but divine inspiration, causing for the period we now refer to as the Dark Ages. But as the flame of the church began to be dampened by suffering and new Humanistic ideals, people like the immensely influential Marsilio Ficino began to share the ideas of antiquity once again. A Renaissance, or rebirth, of the human intellect was instigated, and with that came the invigoration of artistic pursuit. Reflecting the thinking of philosophers of the time, painters and sculptors like Titian, Michelangelo and Raphael used their craft to advertise this wisdom to the masses. The philosophy of Marsilio Ficino overlapped with the symbolism of famous paintings privy to the Humanism of the Renaissance. Ancient philosophers were a tremendous inspiration to the people of the Renaissance this is perhaps made most apparent in Raphael s School of Athens, a mural painted in the library of a Papal Apartment in the Vatican between the year 1509 and 1511. Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives The Benefits of Triphasic Contraceptives A review of the benefits of triphasic combined oral contraceptives when compared to today s low dose monophasic alternatives. Introduction: Since their introduction in 1961, oestrogen progestogen combined oral contraceptive (COC) pills have provided women with an effective and effortless means of contraception for 50 years [1]. Taken by 17% of all women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the U.K. today[2]. Hitherto, earlier COC formulations have been associated with harmful dose dependent side effects [3]. In time, however, a collective scientific effort has successfully improved the safety of COC s by developing preparations that contain the minimum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle (now termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the endometrial lining and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three incremental doses (phases 1 3) of progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink line) a phase 2 dose increase in oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day placebo period, which induces menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this way achieves contraception with significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised that the triphasic regimen would afford various benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive efficacy: The remarkable contraceptive efficacy of COC s has been known for many years. Of the triphasic COC s currently available for prescription in the U.K. (table. 1), TriNovum was found to have a pearl index[1] (PI) value of 1.0 in a large phase III trial (n=4000) and Logynon a PI value of 0.33 (n=3546) [11 12]. However a recent Cochrane review that assessed the number of unintended pregnancies due to drug failure or user failure between monophasic and triphasic COC s across 18 randomized ...
