2. Comparing War Poems Exposure And War Photographer
In war poems, war is always condemned, dispraised and demonstrated as a futile and tragic event. In
both poems, War Photographer by Duffy and Exposure by Owen, poets illustrate their suffering and
acrimony of conditions of war.
War Photographer is an inspiration of the friendship of the poet with a photographer of war. It is also
an illustration of the brutality of war and the apathy of those who might see the photos in newspapers.
Whereas, Exposure is a poem written by a solider who was honoured for his bravery and then was
killed in the battle; therefore, Exposure has more authenticity.
Both poets show a sense of duty in their poems and they use several imageries. For instance, in
Exposure, Owen conveys physical and mental suffering when he says Our ... Show more content on

In Exposure, Owen uses a contradiction of cold and warm to express the solider s delusional mind
which is demolishing from hypothermia. Likewise, in War Photographer, Duffy demonstrates a
contradiction between rural England and nightmarish ware zones.
In War Photographer, encampment reinforces the sense of chaos and anarchy of the world, whilst in
Exposure, Owen uses a burden in the first, third, fourth and final stanza with a short half line, But
nothing happens , which creates a circular structure implying never ending suffering.
Moreover, Owen heightens our awareness of the conditions under which men ludicrously suffer by his
application of alliteration and personification. Furthermore, he presents war with a picture of
communal endurances, togetherness, and courage by the use of repetition of pronouns, we and our .
On the other hand, the poetic techniques that Duffy implies is mostly hallucinative imagery.
In Exposure, Owen uses a regular pattern of ABBA, which creates the sense of status and an emphasis
on monotony. Whereas in war photographer, the rhyme encourages the idea that he is trying to bring
order and demands to a chaotic

4. Descriptive Essay On The Window In The House
Family Fun The window on the eastern side of my house in my brother s room is the most expensive
window in the house, coming in at over 125,000 dollars. It could have been a normal window, if my
family were normal. However, because of that window the entire household had to get rabies shots. I
should consider lucky we did not die a horrible and disgraceful death foaming at the mouth, but after
that experience I am certain that my family deserves to be featured on a freak medical reality show
like Untold Stories of the ER. People are always shocked to hear that all five members of the Niklaus
family took recurring visits to the emergency room because of some silly bat. While they forget that
bats are a common symbol of Halloween, my family does not. This creature cursed my family with a
calamity that none of us shall ever forget. It all began when my dad was painting the new window in
my brother s strangely green themed room. The walls were green, the curtains and bedspread had
green stripes, even the wire trash can was green. The room practically oozed of the sick hue of
Frankenstein s monster, but the window was being painted white, so that at least the exterior of our
house would appear normal. The window was nice, but somehow a mistake was made when Lowe s
ordered a bunch of these windows, so we bought it at quite the discount. The irony of this cheap
window was yet to be realized. My dad took the fly screen out in order to paint it. We later realized
that these

5. Invacare Wheelchair Strategy Case
The wheelchair industry is currently (1992 1993) composed of three companies controlling 72% of the
wheelchair market (including parts). Even though together they are a dominating force, the overall
profitability of the industry is comparable to that of a not a very attractive one, with the top two
players averaging a meager 5.7% Net Income and the third one (the former market leader) losing
considerable money (see Exhibit A).

If this happens and more sales are driven through the Rehab Suppliers for example, then it would be

Quickie s main advantage relies on being a pioneer in the industry, while Invacare s been a follower.
Quickie released many product innovations and could be credited as the creator of lightweight and
ultralight segments in the category (see Exhibit 6 in the case). Part of the benefits that being the first
hitter in the category is the market share yield on those innovative segments (Quickie holds a
remarkable 49% market share on the ultralight segment)
Quickie also has multiple other advantages (as a part of Sunrise) such as the manufacturing and
logistics philosophies like Just in Time, lean manufacturing, etc. A factor that accounts for decreasing
quality issues and manufacturing costs is using fewer parts versus Invacare s Action wheelchairs (50
100% less parts in Quickie s model), this approach also benefits Hospitals and Nursing Homes ability
to hold inventory in contrast to Invacare s strategy. Quickie s COGS for

6. How Surface Conditions Affected Temperature, Moisture, And...
The objective of this lab was to observe how surface conditions affected Temperature, moisture, and
wind.
II. Methods:
The materials that were used to complete this lab was an instruction packet, probe thermometer, IR
gun, the Kestrel weather instrument, and a finger.
III. Results:
For this lab my classmates and I all had to go to different locations to collect the data that was needed.
Some of us were out in the sun, others were in the shade so we all got different answers on our sheet.
For my location I was out in front of the Center for Environmental and Life Sciences (CELS). At that
location we looked at three sub location for our data, there were the grass, mulch, and rocks. The sites
had many characteristics but the three that my group choose to focus on was the location had direct
sun light that happened to be shining from the right side. The wind was blowing at CELS but it felt
like it had a tunnel breeze. The last thing that we said was it had a very diverse landscape. We also
gave characteristics for the three sub locations that we observed. For number one we looked at the
grass and it was yellow with wet soil. Number two was the mulch and it was black, brown, and dry.
Number three was the rocks and they were large, smooth, and greyish. The characteristics of the three
sub locations affected out data in many different ways.
For my three locations the surface temperature was greater than the air temperature. I would expect
that because the surface is absorbing

University of Phoenix | The American Indian and the Bald Eagle | Com 220 | | Tamara Lowe |
5/10/2009 | | The American Indian and The Bald Eagle Native American Indians have been living in
America long before the white man ever came here. There were probably about 10 million Indians
living in North America at the time the white man arrived. The first Native Americans were believed
to have arrived during the last ice age. Somewhere around 20,000 30,000 years ago and they came
through a land bridge across the Bering Sound, from northeastern Siberia into Alaska. The name
Indian was given by Christopher Columbus who believed mistakenly that the mainland and islands of
America were part of the Indies in Asia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the birds wanted all land so they would have more food. Other birds wanted all water because
they liked it that way. They eventually could not decide so they appointed Eagle as their chief and he
was to decide for them. The Eagle decided on land and then asked who would go and search for the
land. The Dove volunteered and flew away. He came back after four days and said that he could not
find land anywhere. The Crawfish came along and Eagle asked him if he would go. The Crawfish
disappeared under the water and after four days came up to the surface with some dirt in his claws.
Crawfish made a ball of the dirt and handed it to Chief Eagle, who flew away with it for four days.
When Eagle returned he told the council that there was now land and that an island had been formed.
Gradually, the island grew bigger and bigger and the water became lower and lower. More islands
appeared and grew together forming the earth. (Manasco, 1985) Almost every Native American tribe
has significant stories about the eagle. One story from the Walla Walla tribe concerns the two identical
wing feathers found close to the breast on each wing. The two feathers are called THE TWINS . These
feathers are aerodynamic and able to be twisted by the bird to give a smooth level effortless flight,
when riding thermal currents. Indians in their superb wisdom, learned from their observation of the
eagle. They had

8. Hostesses Unafraid Rhetorical Analysis
HOSTESSES UNAFRAID! Text 1
The advert Hostesses unafraid published in the TIME magazine, is filled with figurative language. The
advert about Campbell s Tomato Soup persuades the customers throughout the advert to make a
purchase of it. It uses a hostess to get its message across and has pictures of the soup to further clarify
to the readers the product Campbell is selling.
The very fact that this article is written in layman language makes it very relatable and interesting to
read. The title itself is written in bold, capital letters to catch the attention of the reader. The
exclamation makes it seem like an announcement rather than a title, engaging customers into the
advert. The whole text, especially the first paragraph has a rather ... Show more content on

The slogan Double rich! Double strength! uses repetition as the word double is used twice, this puts
emphasis on quality and the outcome of having the soup, which promises the reader to be healthier
and more energy filled compared to having other soups. The bold letters of the slogan are eye catching
and the exclamations indicate the slogan as an important declaration, making it memorable. The
author creates a feeling of trust as the compares Campbell s quality of soup with your home kitchen .
This makes the situation more relatable and trustworthy as the feeling of nostalgia is again introduced.
The promise of the soup being better than the one made at home leaves the reader surprised and
persuaded to buy the soup since they re given a quality assurance. The tone becomes instructional
towards the end as the advert directs the customers to follow a fixed recipe. It s then changed to a
satiric tone as the advert jokes about paying no extra money for doubling the quantity by simply
adding water. This however, creates a contrast because throughout the advert the soup is pictured as
something divine to indulge in but, the phrase at no extra cost breaks such an image of the

9. Mario Molina s Life
In today s society, more and more threats to the welfare of our earth and atmosphere are being
discovered. Some world leaders dismiss these concerns, 1) because they choose to remain ignorant of
the condition of the planet s environment, 2) because it would cost them too much money to fix the
problem, 3) because it is easier not to deal with the problem, or 4) they simply do not care. We cannot
simply ignore these problems, for any of these reasons, because the longer we wait to address them,
the more dire the situation becomes. The scientists who study these threats to our environment want to
solve this issue. That s what scientists do; they form a hypothesis and test every variable until they
find a solution. Mario Molina studied the effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) on the ozone, finding
that they aided the depletion of the ozone in earth s upper atmosphere, just another threat to the earth s

12. The Theory Of Child Rearing
1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in
some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes.
It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being
more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a
collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the
western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I
believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me
back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to
behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave
differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location
may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked
in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down
upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other
cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying.
Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot

13. The Importance Of Business Etiquette
Business Etiquette has always been an important part of life, whether it be business or social. Within
the last decade it has grown and become more important than ever. Mainly because the business world
is becoming more global and having good business relationships is a must for success. Business
etiquette is vitally important for creating a harmonious work environment and for representing your
company in the best manner possible. (Fox, 2008). Professional etiquette is significant in building up
leadership, enhancing careers, and expanding business relationships. The impression created when
everyone displays good manners in any interaction, whether it be dining, interview, and workplace
etiquette is important for a variety of reasons. Without proper business etiquette, one limits one s
potential, risks one s image, and jeopardizes relationships that are fundamental to business success. It
helps people to understand what is appropriate in any situation.
Dining etiquette is the setting in which majority business deals are discussed and finalized. It is very
different than casual dining. Whenever business is conducted over dinner it is best to arrive 10
minutes early, have proper posture and to keep elbows off the table. Table manners play an important
part in making a favorable impression as well as nonverbal communication with your host or
interviewer; good eye contact and firm handshake. There are 2 different styles of dining; American
and Continental or European, each

14. Jackie O Working Girl And The Despair Of Jackie Kennedy
November 22, 1963. This is the date that Jacqueline (Jackie) Kennedy Onassis forever lost her
husband, John F. Kennedy (JFK). After this tragedy, also remarrying and losing that husband as well,
Jackie found fulfillment in becoming a book editor shown in Jackie O, Working Girl (Lawrence). Not
only does Jackie O, Working Girl shows how Jackie became a book editor, it also tells women
working is not a bad thing. On the other hand, The Despair of Jackie Kennedy delves deep into the
details of her mourning over the death of her husband. Other than these two articles talking about
Jackie Kennedy, the only other similarity these articles share is they both use some of the same
rhetorical strategies: purpose, tone, and audience selection. Although their methods in using purpose,
tone, and guiding an audience however is completely different. To begin, the purpose of the articles
Jackie O, Working Girl and The Despair of Jackie Kennedy is considerably contrary. The purpose of
Jackie O, Working Girl is not only to tell about how Jackie became a book editor, it also shows
women that it is okay to work even when they do not need to. Jackie became a book editor not
because she needed the money, but because it was something for her to do (Lawrence). Jackie
described in an interview why she chose to work. Lawrence wrote that Jackie said, what has been sad
for many women of my generation is that they weren t supposed to work if they had families. There
they were, with the highest education, and what were they to do when the children were grown watch

15. Astor Pazzolla
Astor Piazzolla is from Argentina and became a composer. He created a new tango genre called nuevo
tango which incorporates jazz into tango that also infers expanding instrumentation. Since tango had
lost in popularity around 1950s and 1960s, Piazzolla was considered to be the saviour of tango since
he created the new genre of tango. Traditional tango was for dance, not for listening. Furthermore, it
was listened and played by poor people or lower middle class people. In 1950s, Tango started losing it
s creativity and popularity. Since then, tango became things that were listened and studied. In fact,
new tango music was not allowed to be melodic since tango was used for protestant and expression
which means that the music has power.
Piazzolla developed the traditional tango in 1955 and it has gained popularity in upper middle class as
well as international tourists. Tango that Piazzolla developed was for listening due to its rhythm. He
transformed tango music from a functional dance style to a symbolic social statement (Live Class
session 3). Those statement represented the poor and oppressed people in Argentina as well as the
world. It also inferred the importance of each human being. The melody of his tango music was

16. Pica Case Study
Pica, Pediatric
Pica is an abnormal craving for or compulsive eating of a nonfood item. It happens most often in
children, especially those with developmental disabilities. Tasting and putting nonfood items into the
mouth is normal for infants and toddlers. If this behavior continues for longer than 1 month or is
excessive, it is not normal, and pica may be present. In children, pica generally goes away as the child
gets older or with proper treatment.
CAUSES
The exact cause of pica is not known. The craving to eat the nonfood item may be due to a diet
deficiency, such as an iron deficiency. It is not clear if the deficiency is the cause of pica or a result of
pica.
RISK FACTORS
A child may have a higher risk of developing pica if:

Brooke Gladstone and Josh Neufeld are the authors of the article The Influencing Machines . This
article is about technology and is written through a comic style form. Gladstone s main idea on this
article is that we should not fear technology. Gladstone s and Neufeld s comic style article about
technology is the best way to convey her argument because it gives visuals to express her argument,
has a different form of arrangement of her details and thesis, and she gives examples of modern
technology that should not scare us. In her comic style article you can see there is a lot of visuals as
you go through the reading. The visuals throughout the article helps the readers get her ideas more
clearly than a regular article with no images. For example, on the first page of the article she talks
about homophily and even though she gives the definition before the word, the picture of her in a
flock of birds can help the reader understand and visually see that homophily means the groups we
associate ourselves that have similar views to us. Not only do the visuals help the reader understand
her argument but it also makes the reader look more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This was a good decision to provide examples because it gives the reader knowledge on how
technology is not supposed to be scary but actually helpful. This is one of the best choices she made to

QUESTION 2.
Why are cities an essential part of civilization? Has urban life been the same in different civilizations
over time? Why or why not? What accounts for the similarities and differences in various places and
eras? To write a successful essay on these questions, you need to integrate material from each of the
following chapters in our textbook: Chapters 3, 6, and 11.
WHY CITIES ARE AN ESSENTIAL PART OF CIVILIZATION.
Civilization refers to a complex human society with its own social organization and culture; where the
entire society is educated and their way of life improved. It is characterized by people practicing
agriculture and settling in cities. Before a human community grows to this level of sophistication and

Civilizations were highly dependent on the environment. The following act as the main factors that
have contributed to contrasts in different eras and locations during civilization:
Rate of urban development.
In all civilizations, Egypt and Mesopotamia were the most developed of all, therefore they had more
complex administrative features as well as more development in the entire population. Agricultural
surplus alongside trade is what led to growth of these cities as it also contributed to increase in
population.
Activities and culture of the civilization.
Agriculture was common in all civilizations since only cultures that were based on crop growing
became complex civilizations. Others that were involved in fishing and nomadic pastoralism did not
become civilizations. Since techniques of food production, storage and preservation were adapted, it
restricted those who did not practice farming and hence they did not grow in complexity and size.

20. The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved Essay
The Importance of Color in Toni Morrison s Beloved
Toni Morrison s Beloved a novel that addresses the cruelties that result from slavery. Morrison depicts
the African American s quest for a new life while showing the difficult task of escaping the past. The
African American simply wants to claim freedom and create a sense of community. In Beloved, the
characters suffer not from slavery itself, but as a result of slavery that is to say the pain occurs as they
reconstruct themselves, their families, and their communities only after the devastation of slavery
(Kubitschek 115). Throughout the novel, Morrison utilizes color as a symbolic tool to represent a free,

In his journey North, Paul D would scan the horizon for a flash of pink or white...[or] blossoming
plums (Morrison 113). By having Paul D search for colorful flowers, Morrison illustrates Paul D s
desire for a life full of safety, enjoyment, and freedom.
Just as Paul D desires a better life after slavery, so does Baby Suggs. As a slave, Suggs was suppressed
and did not experience the type of life she desired. Morrison indirectly demonstrates this by purposely
leaving out any descriptions of color in Suggs s life when she was a slave. Morrison uses this absence
of color to express that Suggs had lived the life which she had longed for. She did not experience
independence, freedom, safety nor a sense of community when she was a slave. However, after she
was sold, she searched for color, or the life that she had wanted. For, she had never had time to see, let
alone enjoy it before (Morrison 201). Enjoying every color that she could, trying to compensate for
the time wasted as a slave, Suggs retreated to her room and concentrated on color. It took her a long
time to finish with blue, then yellow then green (Morrison 201). Making explicit the absence of color
while Suggs was a slave and then describing the way she relished the colors of her newly acquired
freedom, Morrison conveys Suggs s fulfillment of the life she had longed to have when she was a
slave. Finally, as her life ended, Suggs was happy with the freedom, sense of

they often look for ways to connect culturally with their new home country. Unfortunately, sometimes
immigrants have trouble dealing with an identity crisis, either identifying with their old culture or with
their new culture. One way of coping with this cultural change is through food. Food can help give
people a sense of belonging and identity. What Was Served by Douglas Bauer, We Are What We Now
Eat by Ivan Darias Alfonso and Black Dog of Fate by Peter Balakian s shows a correlation between
food and identity. Alfonso, Bauer and Balakian show how food allows people reconnect with their
native culture meanwhile, Alfonso and Balakain also show how food can help immigrants adapt to a
new one. Writing my first two essays allowed me to realize that it is possible for people to reconnect
with their native country in a completely new country. I have experienced this first hand through my
Spanish heritage. I am a first generation American on my mom s side, meaning that I am the first

Mudstone is a non granular sedimentary rock consisting majorly of silt and clay microscopic particles.
It forms when these particles settle down in a calm water body such as lakes, rivers, lagoon etc. they
are then buried with another set of sediment. The constituent water in the initial sediment is then
squeezed out by the overlying or burying sediment to form a solid mass, through exerting a
compression pressure (The Geology Toolkit Team, 2006).
Clay is powdery grained rock occurring naturally. It is formed by the gradual chemical weathering of

Clay present on the site of construction would pose serious challenges due to its low strength and

analysis and the drawn profile shows that such would not arise as clay forms the major part to be cut
during the construction.
Limestone rocks pose serious problems to construction work due to the cavernous nature of its
bedrock. Its presence contributes to aquifer yield drop since it greatly changes subsurface drainage
patterns; it also has the potential to alter the groundwater condition when some of its mineral
components dissolve in the seeping water.

PLC means professional learning communities which are set up by teachers in order to help the
students who seem to be lagging behind the others academically. This is a way to reach out to the
students on a more personal level, where they get to interact not only with the books, but also with the
teachers who are able to guide them by recognizing their strengths and their weaknesses. This form of
assistance goes a long way in assisting the student develop a positive attitude towards studies and have
the zeal to excel by having a personal coach present to guide them whenever they get stuck or make a
mistake. This is a very encouraging way of ensuring homogenous learning in today s academic
institutions. The parents of the poorly performing students themselves seem grateful for the attention
given to their young ones, as it is any parent s dream to see their children excel academically, and at
the same time get value for their money.
Introduction
There have been studies carried out on this issue of PLC, as to whether it is functional not only in
theory, but also in practical, especially in a real school setting. For this reason, this essay will show
why this document best highlights this issue.
Professional Learning Communities
First of all, this study used a multiple case study in three schools that were below the required
standards and to find out how the theoretical ideas were being implemented in their practical
application.

26. Harmful Militant Activism in Black Bird Essay
I believe there are two types of activism, one which constitutes confrontational action to get their point
across, using only peaceful and educated means, and one which constitutes a policy of direct militant
action to achieve a social or political goal. In the novel Black Bird, Michel Basilieres suggests that
activism, displayed by the FLQ, is one of ethnic narrow nationalism which promotes violence and
disruption of the civil peace for a cause that they, the FLQ, feel would produce a more egalitarian
society. Although this is an option and a belief for some, there is an alternative. This alternative is one
used in the current aspect of activism in which globalism and capitalism is fought. The means of this
activism are that of peaceful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She goes on to describe the readers as opium smokers: calm [and] contented (Basilieres 119) almost

and she performed the act as coldly as drowning an unwanted kitten. (Basilieres 264) Marie is not as
hard line as some of the other members of her cell, like Hubert whom she feels she owes to do what he
would have done after his death, in that she is touched by her mothers sorrow over the loss of her
father and it is this human side of her that drives her to leave the house in order to deal with what she

36. Indigenous Holistic Approach
Apart from a student being able to learn through the development of self, an Indigenous holistic
approach also focuses on the connection between individual aspects other than the self in everyday
life. These aspects include the community, the family and the world, which all have various levels
within themselves. Connectedness begins by creating reciprocal, respectful relationships within the
classroom between teachers and students, in an environment that fosters authentic caring and personal
responsibility (Battiste, 2013). By focusing on this style of education, teachers are both a source of
knowledge as well as a guides to develop a students own understanding as it is assumed that the
student arrive to school with pre existing knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holism also encourages the individual to focus on ones equilibrium with non human entities. This
includes the knowledge based on the significance of the land, animals, spiritual messengers, and the
divine as teachers, rather than just objects in which to study. Indigenous individuals believe living
things and spiritual entities; the Earth and the divine interact with each other and have greater
importance together rather than separately (Howell, Auger, Gomes, Brown, Leon, 2016). This
positioning ties in closely with relationships to the land; as people with millennia of history and
knowledge based in specific territories, connection to place and land, as well as connection to one s
ancestors and the teachings that have been passed down from them, results in much deeper learning
(Vikashni, 2014). With an Indigenous holistic approach, individuals are seen as a single link that is
intertwined with the web of life whereas a western approach defines humans as an image of God and
their existence as the pinnacle of

4. Consent to search is an exception to the warrant; therefore the officer needs no justification to
conduct a search pursuant to a valid consent. 5. Exigent circumstances is an exception to the warrant,
it permits an officer to enter premises when there is a situation that requires immediate action. 6. Plain
view doctrine is an exception to the warrant; it provides that an officer may seize an object without a
warrant if the officer observes the object from the lawful vantage and if the nature of the object is
immediately apparent as an article subject to seizure (Garland, 2011).
The four circumstances that are recognized as exigent are: 1. Hot pursuit is limited to a situation in
which a suspect is followed from the point of the offense to the destination in a continuous
transaction. 2. The exigency of imminent destruction of evidence may also justify the entry into and
search of a dwelling, if the police have probable cause that believe that criminal evidence will be
destroyed. 3. Suspect escape is an exigent; an officer may enter a home or other dwelling and search
for a suspected felon who the officer has probable cause to believe is presently within the home and
will escape if immediate action is not taken. 4. The risk of harm to the police or others justifying the
search of a person or a home if the officer has probable cause to believe that a risk of harm
exists(Garland, 2011).
