A Trip to the Roman Theatre Essay
A Trip to the Roman Theatre
Morning at last! I have been waiting for this day for so long. Today is March the 15th. Today is
the day when the whole of Italy will celebrate the festival of Anna Perenna the goddess of the
year. I love festivals, because everyone is on holiday and all the citizens are forbidden to work or do
business. I am thrilled because I am going to the theatre to see a play. I am very fortunate that my
father has paid for the actors and producers to perform the play and he has also paid for the
scenery and costumes. As well as this he has paid for all the citizens of Pompeii to come and
watch the play. My father has given my mother and me a special token, which entitles us to ... Show

May I say you look beautiful madam; your elegant crimson shawl brings out the colour of your
luscious red hair. Madam shall we go to the theatre now so that we can get good seats?
No Liviana I am a special guest and a seat has been reserved especially for me. You can go now,
with the other slaves and slave girls so that you all can get a good seat near the front I will come
later with my mother.
Thank you Mistress
Livianabefore you go bring me my metal mirror
Of course Mistress
My mother had often told me how much fun she had when she went to the theatre. Her favourite
play writer and actor was Titus Maccius Plautus. She told me about the hilarious comedies with
their rude jokes by Titus Maccius Plautus. My mother also liked watching more serious plays.
She told me that even though they were only plays, they portrayed life very well, and were very
realistic. She told me about one particular play she watched, this was a serious play and at the
end of it the main character in the play was murdered by his friend. My mother told me that a man
from the audience took the place of the actor who was going to die at the

Listening, Smell, And Taste With Forts
47758 Touch, Look, Listen, Smell, and Taste With Forts
Think back to a favorite childhood memory and the sense that most often triggers it. Does the feel
of dough between your fingers remind you of being in the kitchen with Grama? Does the color
combination of red and purple stir familiar feelings inside you? Perhaps the spring sun on your skin
gathers memories of backyard games with neighborhood friends.
Most of our powerful memories associate an experience with a sense. These sense based reactions
then become triggers for recall. Sensory experiences and, therefore, sensory play, are valuable in the
development of our children.
Engaging the senses promotes learning and retention. Touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste allow
humans to explore the world. With each interaction, we take in more valuable information, even
unconsciously. Experience is our teacher.
Solving problems and participating in make believe comes with exploring the world through play.
These activities express creativity and build confidence. Furthermore, sensory play develops and
refines the senses. This valuable childhood activity proves therapeutic, improves motor skills,
increases awareness of the world and promotes language acquisition.
Using Fort Magic kits fosters the use of the senses naturally. Children of all ages love forts and
spend hours on end playing and imaging, all the while learning and developing healthily. Cognitive,
social, emotional, physical, creative and linguistic skills

The Problem of Global Warming Essay
Global Warming is the increase of temperature on Earth which is caused by human activities and
will have very serious consequences for life on Earth if humans don t start to do something about it
now. Global Warming is caused when the
Greenhouse Gases combines with the atmosphere and traps heat. It is strongly related to pre human
and pre industrial global warming, it is also weakly related to depletion of ozone layer, which was
caused by the CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons) gas. The effects of global warming on the environment
are dangerous, such as: rising of sea level because polar caps melt, changes in the pattern of
precipitation, floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes and tornadoes. These effects would take
away life and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Nitrous oxide is the major greenhouse gas and has
296 times the effect of carbon dioxide (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide, Feb,
2007).
Human activities are the biggest contributor to global warming. Industrialization, transportation and
forest burning releases gases that join the atmosphere and trap heat.
Industrialization has been proved to release high amounts of carbon dioxide since the
Industrial Revolution began in the early 19th century. The total amount of carbon dioxide has
increased by one ? third of the usual amount in the atmosphere.
Transportation uses fossil fuels to run and as a result, it produces gases such as carbon
monoxide and carbon dioxide. Now, in the modern lifestyle, most of the people want and have
private cars. This further increases the amount carbon dioxide released to the air by the means of
transportation. The biggest cause of global warming is forest burning. This is because when we
are burning forests, trees inside it, which usually absorb carbon dioxide, release lots amount of
carbon dioxide. Besides this, the earth has also experienced natural global warming and ice ages
several times before, which rises by up to 5 degree Celsius. A climatologist said that humans have
contributed to
Global Warming since 8,000 years ago, the year the amount of carbon dioxide started to increase.
There are lots of negative effects on environment and

has allowed free trade to exist (McBride McNutt, 2007, p.186). Free Trade agreements such as
NAFTA have decreased workers power and quality of life. NAFTA, which has extended
protections for investors, has excluded protections of labour standards and worker rights (Faux as
cited in NAFTA at Seven: Its impact on workers in all three nations, 2001, p.1). There is no
Labour rights section in any chapter of NAFTA but is rather a side agreement which is troublesome

The Fair Tax Is A Proposed Tax Reform
The Fair TaxВ® is a proposed tax reform to the current taxation process of the federal government
in the United States. Written by John Linder and first introduced to Congress in 1999, the Fair
TaxВ® is a proposition for the federal government to get rid of all current taxes (including federal
income taxes, estate taxes, payroll taxes, etc.) and taxonly the purchasing of goods and services for
personal consumption. Instead of taxes being applied to income, each individual would receive
their full paycheck with no federal taxes deducted and instead a 23% sales tax ($0.23 for every
$1.00) would be included in the price of an item. This translates to about a 30% sales tax ($0.23
on top of every $0.77) today, because instead of the item being $1.00 it would be sold for $0.77
with a $0.23 tax on top, whereas the price under the Fair TaxВ® would be $1.00 with the tax
included in the price. This percentage would be adjusted each year based on the government s
revenue in the previous fiscal year. To make up for the large tax on sales, each citizen would
receive a prebate or annual consumption allowance check that should negate the sales tax on
purchases that are essential for living. The prebate would be given to each individual based on the
poverty level. (1) There are several points made opposing the Fair TaxВ®, but in this paper I will
mainly be discussing the supporting points and how it would benefit our country s citizens,
businesses, economy, and government. During the first

Different Models And Theories Associated With Adult Learning
There is several different models and theories associated with adult learning. Through my research it
seems that andragogy is the first thing educators think of when adult learning process is mentioned.
Malcolm Knowles says, Andragogy is the art and science of helping others learn (Merriam,
Caffarella, Baumgartner, 2007). Andragogy are learningstrategies focused on adults. It is often
interpreted as the process of engaging adultlearners with the structure of the learning experience
(Clardy, 2005). Andragogy is an assumption that there are different characteristics and requirements
when it comes to learning between adults and children. Therefore, the learning procedures used in
teaching adults must be altered from the pedagogical procedures related to teaching children.
Andragogy is based on five assumptions concerning the adult learner (ASTD, 2007).
First is the assumption that as a person matures, their self concept moves from a dependent
personality towards more of a self directing personality. (Merriam et al., 2007). At this point the
learner is considered self directed. The second assumption is that an adult accumulates a growing
reservoir of experience, which is a rich resource for learning (Merriam et al., 2007). Basically,
adults can utilize their experiences to influence themselves and others. Third, the readiness for an
adult to learn is in close relation to the developmental tasks of the adult s social role. (Clardy,
2005). This readiness to learn is a direct

It may be cheaper to purchase an older truck than a newer car, but in fuel and maintenance, the
older truck will cost more. The pros and cons of this decision are all personal. The lower upfront
costs may be more beneficial to one person than to another. A personal decision that I am
struggling with right now is with my credit rating. I have two credit cards that have a high
balance. These are both in my ex wife s possession. They are both delinquent on payments. I have
to decide whether to just take out a high interest loan to pay these off and renew my credit rating,
or to let her financial decisions affect my credit rating. The third principle of individual decision
making is rational people think at the margin (Mankiw, 2007). This states that the benefit must
exceed the cost. A personal experience with this would be that I have a truck that gets very low
fuel mileage. I needed a car with better fuel economy, but have bad credit. I weighed the pros
and cons of buying a car with a high interest loan, and felt that the benefit was worth the cost.
While some would say there is nothing good to come from this, those who make these choices
must feel there is. Mankiw (2007) points to the difference in value between water and diamonds.
A marginal increase in a person s water supply will rarely come at a significant cost to the person.
However, a marginal increase in diamonds is extremely valuable. The forth principle of individual
decision making is

The Crucial Role In The Urbanization Of Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egypt is a complicated period in history to understand how their society became urbanized
and how cities emerged in their region due to the geographical area along the Nile River. Through
excavations and analyses, historians have been able to conclude that the Ancient Egyptians valued
tombs and temples, and were in contact with the Near East due to rare findings of subterranean
domestic housing. Analyses of tombs, temples, and the rare findings of domesticated housing tell
the archeologists and historians about the urbanization process, however, these three features only
provide the scholars with a limited amount of knowledge due to robbing of tombs, deterioration of
buildings, and flooding of the Nile. Tombs play a crucial role in the urbanization of Ancient Egypt.
For instance, they imply that Egyptians highly valued caring for and the honoring the deceased.
Before dying, people would carefully select objects that they wanted to be placed in their tomb
with them. The objects placed in the tomb with them would then reach the afterlife with the
deceased person with the approval from Osiris (FOOTNOTE BOOK 83). However, many thieves
have broken into tombs in order to steal precious objects (FOOTNOTE). This limits scholars
knowledge on the urbanization of Ancient Egyptbecause these objects have been lost. A prime
example of this can be seen in Hierakonpolis. The excavated tombs showed evidence of urban
features from the paintings that remained in the tomb

A Thousand Years Of Good Prayer
Deeper Than Words: Communication in A Thousand Years of Good Prayer, by Yiyun Li There are
those who have a difficult time expressing themselves with words. It is as though there is a
communication barrier between people even if they are speaking the same language. The struggle
for successful communication can be even harder if different languages are spoken. Even if there
are no words spoken, communicationbetween two people still occurs. Yiyun Li s short story A
Thousand Years of Good Prayer offers an excellent study in communication. This study includes
examples of communication barriers and the successful aspects of communication revealing the
ultimate theme: communication does not need to be verbalized to have a relationship... Show more

In the same way the language barrier hinders conversation. Mr. Shi knows little English and
mostly speaks in Chinese. This hinders true communication between him and Madam, a woman
he meets in the park He feels that sometimes they run out of English (406). When there are no
more English words to be said, both revert to their native language. Neither Mr. Shi nor Madame
truly understands what is being said. Mr. Shi wishes at times to communicate to Madam in
English: But he is sure, even before he starts that his English would fail him (406). This struggle
for words indicates the lack of communication between him and Madam, but it also indicates the
language barrier between him and his daughter. He speaks primarily in Chinese, and while his
daughter knows Chinese, she prefers to speak English: It s different Baba. We talk in English, and
it s easier. I don t talk well in Chinese (413). His daughter does not like speaking in Chinese, and Mr.
Shi struggles to converse in English. This problem undermines their relationship. Even though
verbal communication is lacking, nonverbal communication is evident. Mr. Shi notices, her eyes
behind her glasses, wide open and unrelenting, remind him of her younger years (408). He notices
his daughter s curiosity and need for an answer even though few words are said. He is aware of
her need, but he refuses to tell her the truth. Mr. Shi s daughter s eyes remind

How Did the Night of the Long Knives Help Hitler...
The Night of the Long Knives was extremely significant in the establishment of the Nazi
dictatorship and ultimately Hitler s power. This night of brutal murder and elimination of the
Sturm Abteilung (SA) gave Hitler the support of the army, which he need for both the creation of a
totalitarian state and his future foreign policy and also relieved the pressures on Hitler. However,
The Night of the Long Kniveswas also the continuation of many other events, which could be
described as equally as important, such as the Enabling Act and the Reichstag Fire.

Almost in unification, the army praised the Night of the Long knives even though, general Kurt
von Schleicher and Ferdinand von Bredow were among the many victims. The ill President
Hindenburg, who was viewed as Germany s military hero, sent a telegram expressing his
profoundly felt gratitude and congratulated Hitler for, nipping treason in the bud . Although many
Germans approached the official news of the events as described by Josef Goebbels with
doubtfulness, many others though took the government at its word, and believed Hitler had saved
Germany from chaos and destruction. The Night of the Long knives represented a triumph for
Hitler and a turning point for the German government. It established Hitler s image as the supreme
judge of the German people . This event also sent a clear message to the public that even the most
notable Germans were affected from arrest or even summary execution should the Nazi regime
view them as a threat. Due to the Night of the Long Knives, it established a pattern of violence that
would characterize the Nazi regime and desensitise the German citizens from executions of millions
in the future.
The Night of the Long Knives helped Hitler, as almost all of his political enemies were wiped out
during these nights. This meant the only force still capable of removing him from power was the
army, which soon swore

The Theories Of The Theory Of Evolution
Eighty seven percent of American scientists believe that a series of random chemical and
biological events produced mankind. However, the philosophical theory of evolution has no solid
evidence, whereas creation can be proven. Science is supposed to be based on observation, right?
The best theories satisfy the test of experimentation. No one can test if evolutionhappened. Non one
can prove that evolution actually happened. But what evidence can we place against evolution?
In 1859, Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species, introducing the theory of evolution.
One hundred and fifty six years later, scientists still accept this senseless philosophy. House
Majority Leader Tom DeLay states, Our school systems teach the children that they are nothing
but glorified apes who are evolutionized out of some primordial soup (Snyder). Schools
worldwide have presented exactly this to the young, impressionable minds of your future doctors,
engineers, scientists, and presidents. They assure us that if we give a small amount of mud
enough time it can, by itself, bring about the art of da Vinci, the plays of Shakespeare, the music
of Mozart, and the brilliant mind of Einstein. I would like you to take just a moment and think
about this: For the smallest free living thing to duplicate itself would need 239 separate protein

Commercials And Target Buyers Based On Gender
For some people its the catchy jingle that catches their attention. For others it may be the famous
celebrity that appears on their screen. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases
and over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in
advertising, pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money
necessary to get their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing
executives have realized that they must refine their commercials and target buyers based on gender.

The Open Boat
After surviving a shipwreck and being stuck on a ten foot dingy in the cold January waters with
three other men as they endure two days on the open sea. The short story by Stephen Crane The
Open Boat tells the journey through the narrative s point of view of man vs nature and the potent
relations, he retains with the three other passengers as they are forced to work together to survive.
The narrative s survival shows the compassion he gains of his comrades and new life that is
embraced through a mighty recovery after his life is saved. Unknown as what might be ahead all
four men embrace the hearty seaat full force working hard to break through the endless waves.
The correspondent and the oiler rowed together as the cook bailed out water and the captain laid
in the bow of the boat injured but able to give orders. All four men working fiercely, but
questioning their fate as they embrace the open ocean in a dinghy described to be as big as a
bathtub. The mind of the master of a vessel is rooted deep in the timbers of her, though he

the grays of dawn of seven turned faces, and later a stump of a topmast with a white ball on it,
that slashed to a fro at the waves, went low and lower, and down. This expression told from the
narrative portrays the caption who is the mind of the master of the vessel to be hopeless which
has everyone in the dinghy questioning their survival. As dawn breaks through and the sun
begins to rise all four men are still hard at work trying to keep the dinghy afloat and in steer still
with doubt in their minds as they rowed deeper into the sea. Time passes and the cook tries to

Character Analysis Of The Wonder Woman In The Superman
The difficult thing when adapting a comic is looking closely at the source material. Wonder
Woman was sort of a campy character who would look pretty ridiculous running around on the
street. Yeah, Lynda Carter rocked it back in the day, but she still looks ridiculous. Somehow, Patty
Jenkins and crew managed to not only make a great superheromovie with a female lead, but also a
great war movie. A great World War 1 movie! The last time we had a WW1 movie that took this
much care was War Horse, and that movie wasn t very good.
Premise: Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons,
trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an
American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that s raging in the outside
world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting
alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.
This is the first time I walked out of a movie in the DC Extended Universe where I finally felt they
did something right, and after watching Gal Gadot debut in Batman v Superman, it also retroactively
makes that movie look better when you learn of her motivations in that film. I d explain it, but that
would really kill the realization when you see the film.
Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad were all disappointing, but this film may be
the film to put DC back on

The Decade Of The 1980 S
The decade of the 1980 s experienced a massive sorts of changes in economics and culture, this
requires a certain analysis of the time and the way culture became intertwined with economics. The
culture transformed and allowed the decade to be read as an experience of cultural products
between cultureand economy. Through the conspicuous consumption of the decade, the 1980s
encouraged a cultural shift towards complete commodification (what is this) and interaction with
the market. Ronald Reagans presidency throughout the decade created a framework for the people,
and ultimately, the culture to transform. His early and continued leadership outlined the tone of the
decade and this gave a context for the theoretical work of neoliberalism... Show more content on

Reaganomics was an economic vision, that expressed a way of looking at the world, a framework
for understanding the economy and society and the individual s place within both (Troy and
Cannato, eds 128). This serves to further understand and develop the relationship between society
and economy. (how? Expand this quote, you used it for a reason) With the presidential leadership
outlining this impression, it creates room for regeneration and reinvention to occur within the
culture of the decade. Through the implementation of Reaganomics, the American culture was
reinvigorated with a new vision of economics, and even individuality. Reagan consistently
addressed the American people and his effort to restore the self confidence of the American people
and their faith in the traditions and institutions of the country was an important part of the national
recovery during the 1980s (Troy and Cannato, eds, 31). A new cultural space was created and the
American culture transformed in something that was produced and consumed. Americans spent
time learning to find their space under the new economic shift and Reagan s confident leadership.
The drive to support American confidence through the economic shifts cuts through the class
politics and allows for Reaganomics to shape the decade in the later years.
As the new space for culture and economics develops, America starts to

never reach. The way they are invented on television, in shows and movies, paints them as a species
with very little variety, no depth, and inaccurate portrayals of their current existence in society.
From toddlerhood, the female gender is oppressed by what society believes they should be. In
children s shows and advertisements, female children have a specific look that they then are
expected to emulate, cute and pink adornments, playing with dolls and learning lessons about
gender stereotyping without even being aware of what the difference between the sexes even are.
Then, when they are older, they are sexualized, underrepresented, overdramatized, and molded into
what they think they should be. When they break this mold, they are stigmatized. In a woman s life,
she will struggle with self image and identity issues because she will never achieve the goals
media images have set for her to reach. When women become viewed as individuals and are
recognized for their achievements and the ideal for them becomes about something beyond their
looks, and when representation is fair and equal, we will have achieved fair media representation
for women. The production of images of the female gender has always been a reflection of the time
period they are in. Paintings were images created in ancient

The Importance Of Being A Hero
The most important and impactful part of being a hero is essentially doing heroic things. A
heroic action, in this case, would be qualified as an act that benefits others more than yourself
and is characterized as having a generally upstanding moral motive. In this respect, Dr.
Manhattan would be the most successful hero because not only does he end a war, but he is
also the reason that nuclear war was postponed for so long (Moore, Gibbons 130). Just having a
godlike hero present that could stop nuclear conflict at any time was enough to keep countries
from annihilating all humans. From this logic, Dr. Manhattan saved the most lives for the
longest period of time therefore doing the most good. This outweighs his lack of empathy and
compassion. Regardless of how he feels about people, he still believes they have the capability of
doing good and he protects them. Similarly, Ozymandias also takes part in preventing nuclear war.
However, he does this in what is essentially the most evil way: by killing millions (Moore, Gibbons
401). He thinks he is doing what is right, but he is responsible for upholding values rather than
revolutionizing the world. Killing millions of innocent citizens, by most people s standards,
immoral and unjust, and therefore Veidt is not acting entirely as a hero. Furthermore, it cannot be
ignored that by making this sacrifice, Veidt saved more than he killed. When referring to villainous
personalities, a common and determining factor is not valuing

Descriptive Essay About Window Shopping
On the first day we arrived in Monterey we had lunch at a family dinners we found before
exploring the area. Since we had arrived late and couldn t go to the aquarium that day like we
had originally planned. So for the rest of the day we went window shopping because there were
several small shops in the area near the aquarium. There was one store in particular that we all had
found interesting it was a glassmakers shop. Inside the shop there were different glass plates,
bowls, and vases in varying colors as well as crystal necklaces and rings. My cousin Aneia and I
went to the back of the shop to look at the jewelry in the glass case.
The necklaces are so pretty I said I especially like the pink ones
They are nice Aneia said But I think I like the blue ones better

My mom was in the front of the store near the door with my Aunt Angrett, Aunt Tebena, Aunt
Deshina and my other younger cousin Ishael. As we left the shop we walked until we got to one
of the bus stops to take a trolley to the parking garage where Aunt Angrett s car was parked. The
rest of us wanted a ride back to Aunt Tebena s car because we were all tired of walking. When we
came to our stop my mom, Aunt Deshina and I decided we could just walk and wait for the rest of

Understanding The Meaning Of Love
What is love? Many people do not know the meaning of love, they think that it is what we feel
but it s what we do that demonstrates love. (Deem, 2011). There are many ways to express your
love to your family or friends but there is one true love, God. I will be discussing the biblical
meaning of love and what God wants us to apply to ourselves to have healthy relationships by
representing his loveto others. There are four types of love which are Forge, Eros, Philia and
Agape. (Wellman, 2014)
Forge is family love as in love for your parents, siblings, and children. (Wellman, 2014).
According to Merriam Webster the meaning is Parental affection; the instinctive affection
which animals have for their young. Parents manifest this love by providing their family
members with shelter, protection, and financial needs. Older brothers demonstrate this love by
providing support and protection to their younger siblings especially if they are being bullied or
mistreated. In Proverbs 31:15 17 you see the love of a mother towards her whole household, it
states She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day s work for
her servant girls. She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. (NLT).
The love between a man and a woman which is sensual love, acceptable in marriage is Eros.
(Wellman, 2014). There are many people that practice this type of love outside of marriage which is

Run Forrest, Run! Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This
quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you
so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is
carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have
not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him.
At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the
whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until
the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive
version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS)
transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes
with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Throughout the novel Forrest Gump the main
character, Forrest, is made out to look like a slow, dim witted individual by his peers but perhaps
he may not be as unintelligent as everyone thinks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Power Struggles In The Tempest
It is said that A power struggle collapses when you withdraw your energy from it. Power struggles
become uninteresting to you when you change your intention of winning to learning about yourself
(Gary Zukav). A comedic play written by William Shakespeare demonstrates the theme struggle for
power that develops throughout the story of The Tempest. The Tempest is defined as an outrageous
storm in which Shakespeare uses to enhance the play. This story is about a person named
Prospero and his daughter who are stuck on an island due to Prospero s brother, Antonio. Antonio
took over Prospero s dukedom of Milan after kicking them out (Act 5) and trying to end their lives.
With the help of good, Lord Gonzalo, they survive. Now, marooned on an island with a malevolent
servant [Caliban] and a spirit helper [Ariel], Prospero continues the practice of magic which will
12 years later come to haunt his fellow enemies whom receives a gift of Prospero s power in the
end. The outrageous storm (Act 1) is just the beginning of a struggle for power. In The Tempest,
Shakespeare uses conflicts to develop the theme struggle for power. In The Tempest , different
conflicts such as internal and external illustrate the way that people struggle for power. Affected by

Psalms 97 Essay
Psalms 97 is a General Praise Hymn that celebrates God s authority over all His creations. The
General Praise type has three main sections that includes a call to praise God, an explanation or
reasons for praising God, and a renewed call to Praise (Lucas, 2008, p. 2). The General Praise type
is evident in Psalms97 as it begins with a call to Praise God. It mentions, Let the earth rejoice; let
the many coastlands be glad! (Psalms 97:1, ESV). Verses 2 to 11 gives the explanation for
praising God. It mentions that God is righteous and just; He is faithful and will conquer evil and
idolatry. Through this, everything, even the mountains, will praise Him and know that He is
God (Psalms 97:5 7). Psalms 97 also emphasizes God s kingship in verse 9 by noting that He is the
most high over all the earth . Another reason for praising God is that He will protect and deliver
those who are faithful from evil. This hymn ends by recalling for a praise to God. Rejoice in the
Lord . . . and give thanks to his holy name (Psalms 97:12).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

with calling and complaining to God that he has too many enemies against him (Psalm 3:1 2).

exclamation of praise. David is reassured that God is His shield and sustainer in verses 3 5. In verse

This is followed by David s petition and call to God to deliver him from his situation and to take
revenge on his enemies. He ends his lament with a praise to God that salvation is God s decision,

Shakespeare s King Lear And Marlowe s Doctor Faustus
Shakespeare s King Lear and Marlowe s Doctor Faustus are two examples of early modern texts,
one a tragedy and the other a morality play respectively, which deal with the theme of power at the
crux of its narrative. Between both texts it is evident that different characters utilize their power or
authority differently some unwisely whilst some maliciously . In either case, the use of power
progresses the plays and drives the majority of main characters.
To begin with, both plays incorporate the conventions of an Aristotelian tragedy. One of Aristotle s
primary conventions of a tragedy in his Poetics, is the notion of hamartia where:
A man not outstanding in virtue or justice, brought down through vice or depravity, who falls into
adversity not through vice or depravity but because he errs in some way (Aristotle 2013, p. 32)
It can be argued that both Lear s and Faustus hamartia are intertwined in one way or another with
power. Lear s error of judgement is his hubris when he asks his daughters who doth love us most
so he can split up his kingdom so the largest bounty may extend where nature doth with merit
challenge (Shakespeare 2004, 1.1.50 52). Pride and vanity leads him to test his daughters and
distributing his kingdom. This is ultimately the starting point leading to the tragic consequences at
the end of the play. Similarly, Faustus shows excessive ambition in regards of knowledge and

POWER AND POLITICS IN THE FALL AND RISE OF JOHN LASSETER

cartoons as a youngster. Then as a freshman in high school he read a book entitled The Art of
Animation. The book, about the making of the Disney animated film Sleeping Beauty, proved to be
a revelation for Lasseter. He discovered that people could earn a living by developing cartoons.
Lasseter started writing letters to The Walt Disney Company Studios regarding his interest in
creating cartoons. Studio representatives, who corresponded with Lasseter many times, told him to

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Analysis
In Tom Stoppard s play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, we see Ros and Guil adventure
through their confused yet contented lives as events occur around them that seal their fate. In
hindsight, their presence and lives seem rather pointless. The Tragedy of Hamlet could have
functioned fine without them, so why are they there and why are they not a single character? Most
readers could interpret that they each embody some concept. This literature review will attempt to
investigate the symbolism of the story and how other authors perceive it. When analyzing these
characters, one cannot help but wonder what Shakespeare had in mind for them. American
Historian, Preserved Smith, delves into a few of Shakespeare s influences.
He and many contemporaries matriculated at Wittenberg. Shakespeare then may have chosen
Wittenberg simply on account of its fame. It is interesting to note, however, that Hamlet s
Wittenberg friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, may actually have been drawn from the life, as
there were men of this name at the university. A Holger Rosencrantz who studied at Wittenberg in
the years 1592 95 was later attached to the Danish embassy in London. A Frederick Rosencrantz,

Influence of the Roman Theater on Cicero s Oration Pro Caelia By
Cicero s oration in defense of M. Caelius Rufus shows many substantive and stylistic borrowings
from the Roman Theater, particularly the comedies of the 2nd century b.c.e. This would scarcely
seem remarkable to Cicero, to employ such devices is only to make use of the tools of his trade,
as a practical and practicing rhetorician. In this case using the theater as a framing device to guide
his audience s response.
So too would the judgments and emotions existing in the cultural reservoir of Greco Roman, or

he would set down in the wake of the trial, however it was decided. ... Show more content on

Cicero, by example of his own life takes a broad inclusive approach to Oratory. In a earlier
statement we encounter words which probably reflect his own view closely: But the fact of the
matter is that oratory is a much more considerable activity and depends on a far wider range of
different arts and branches of study, than people imagine (Cicero, Orator I 4,16).Particularly
Cicero seems interested in holding on to the orator s special sphere the third branch of Philosophy
life and behavior of human beings which is to say, human nature (Cicero, Orator I 15, 69).
We hear of the orator s special strength to rouse men s hearts to anger, hatred, and indignation
(Cicero, Orator I 12,53), a not dissimilar goal to that of the dramatist. We find that a speaker s job
is to ensure that the feelings of his audience are affected just the way he wants them to be (19,

The Truth Behind Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Caley Walkoviak Professor Stoner ENGL 1302 23 October 2014 The truth behind Young Goodman
Brown In the short story Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne presents several different
literary devices such as: imagery, symbolism, and allegory to artistically and elegantly contribute to
the story s main theme. Hawthorne uses these devices to display his themes and ideas regarding the
twisted dark path of evil and the inner fears of a man who treads the unknown path of temptation
and curiosity. Hawthorne creates depth within the story, characters, and the setting by allowing
them to be viewed differently than who they are and what their title holds. Hawthorne applies

However, Snakes symbolize cunning, deception, slyness and wiliness. So, it is not difficult to
comprehend why Hawthorne describes the traveler, one of the most sneaky and sly characters
of the story, holding the staff of the serpent. In the bible the serpent is the one who tempts Adam
and Eve to commit an awful sin and go against their morals. Many could conclude that the
companion in the forest is a sign of the devil by carrying this staff and leading a young gullible
man into the realm of evil. On the other hand, one might gather that the devil is tricking Brown
into following him into evil temptation by using the staff as a religious distraction. In the bible
Moses holds a shepherds staff to lead individuals towards religious beliefs. Moses is looked up to
as a religious leader in the bible and if Brown is following the devil he may be confused by the
fact that the devil is not a religious leader but an evil symbol. Hawthorne presents this idea in the
story by describing the staff as a great black snake, so curiously wrought that it might almost be
seen to twist and wriggle itself like a living serpent. (Hawthorne 810). This is a prime example of
what the staff truly entails evil and is purposely overlooked by Brown due to the fact that it is a
misrepresentation of a religious symbol. Hawthorne writes

The Turn Of The Screw Ghost Essay
The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, is ghost story that focuses on a young governess that
encounters a pair of ghosts. These ghosts play an important role in the story, but there has always
been a debate over whether the ghosts exist inside the story, or if they exist only in the governess
head. There is evidence within the book to support either claim, so the reality of the apparitions
ultimately depends on the reader s opinion. This paper will support the opinion that the two ghosts
that the governess sees are ultimately just figments of her imagination. Even though the governess
ghosts are not real, she believes them to be real, and her reaction to this belief precipitates the
unfortunate conclusion. The Turn of the Screwis a ghoststory, but the real ghosts in the book are
mostly ignored, which is not uncommon in literature, and examples of ignored ghosts can be found
in other works as well.
The two ghosts in The Turn of the Screw are ultimately just figments of the governess imagination,

Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current...
Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since
the change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable
sub tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion
(Rollinson, 2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized
jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing
circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific managementworks better with small companies which do
not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect

Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right
people to a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example
could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced

This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the

and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11).

when employees refuse to work. In most cases labor unions are born out of unfair working
conditions and wages were salaries that may be minimal. One might not think of poor working
conditions minimal salary when it comes to the three major sports of professional baseball
professional basketball in the National Football League. You look at athletes like Michael
Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, and Alex Rodriguez and see the amount of money that
these individual have earned through the years of playing professional sports you would have a
hard time finding anyone feeling sorry for them. When it comes to these perks that today s
professional athletes enjoy is do to those who came before them that had the audacity to challenge
the owners. What is diplomacy, knowing how to deal with people in a particular way to ultimately
get what you want. That s my interpretation of the diplomacy as it pertains to negotiations. In
sports one may ask how negotiations spiral out of control to the point where you get some type of
work stoppage by strike or by lockout. Fans are getting upset and disgruntled and question, it s all
about greed millionaires battling billionaires. What could be leading to the lockouts what factors
would get in the way of some tough but rational negotiations. Fundamentally when it comes to the
sports leagues work stoppages usually come from economical or aggregate

Amylase Is An Enzyme Commonly Found In Human Saliva. It
Amylase is an enzyme commonly found in human saliva. It is used to catabolize starch into
glucose and maltose by lowering the activation energy barrier, and by breaking the alpha 1 4
bonds of amylose and amylopectin and the alpha 1 6 bonds of amylopectin. Amylase is found in
one s saliva and pancreas, and Porcrine Pancreatic О± Amylase is amylase that has been isolated
from the pancreas of a pig. While amylase is effective at breaking down starch, in the normal saliva
pHrange of 6.02 to 7.14 (Schmidt Nielsen, 1946), any pH environment outside of this range will
decrease the reaction rate. The same goes for the temperature of the amylase s environment. At a
normal body temperature of around 37В°C, the amylase functions at its fastest rate... Show more

Through this experiment we found this prediction to be true; even though there is no true
consensus on the exact optimum pH for alpha amylase activity, all of the sources place it around
6.00 or 7.00.
Materials and Methods First, six different buffers were used and 5 mL of each buffer was added
to six different test tubes. The six buffers were as follows: pH 4.00 was Potassium Biphthalate
(Item # 280 4.00), pH 5.00 was Potassium Biphthalate/ Sodium Phosphate (Item # 280 5.00), pH
6.00 was Potassium Phosphate/ Sodium Phosphate (Item # 280 6.00), pH 7.00 was Sodium
Phosphate/ Potassium Phosphate (Item # 280 7.00), pH 8.00 was Sodium Phosphate/ Potassium
Phosphate (Item # 280 8.00), pH 9.00 was Sodium Bicarbonate/ Sodium Carbonate (Item # 280
9.00). All of the aforementioned hydrion buffer salts were obtained from Micro Essential
Laboratories in Brooklyn, NY. Secondly, 1.5 mL of a 1% w/v О± Amylase solution from porcine
pancreas, Type VI B, ≥10 units/mg solid, from Sigma Aldrich in St. Louis, MO, (Item # A3176
500KU) was added to each test tube, and the solutions in the test tubes were mixed. Next, 100 ОјL

Disaster Recovery Plan
Disaster Recovery Plan
Disasters are unavoidable within businesses and organizations alike. Disasters not only affect the
business and organizational continuity, it will also result in a major modification of the
organization s operational mechanisms (Awasthy, 2009). Businesses now prepare a business
continuity plan and a disaster recovery plan because of these reasons so that they may simplify the
disaster management when next one occurs. It is highly important for every business to have an
effective disaster recovery plan to go to in the event of a disaster (Thejendra, 2008). This disaster
recovery plan has been created and prepared for Bain Company. This plan will determine the
goals and objectives as well as the programs for properly handling natural disasters and threats that
could harm the company. A framework will be provided for recovery by predicting future threats or
disasters that could happen around or within the business. This DRP will be targeted toward the
security and protection of the business customers and employees. This plan will also help to
mitigate business downtime that will usually happen during a disaster. A few examples of disasters
that could occur are natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. As well as
terrorist threats such as strikes, bomb threats, fires, etc. (Thejendra, 2008).

One Survivor Remembers Film Analysis
In the movie One Survivor Remembers narrated by Gerda Weissmann there are various scenes
that are very powerful. One of many scenes that I feel was the most powerful to me was when
Geirda explained to us how she left her mother. I m not that certain as how she told her story, but
I remember her saying it started with SS officers coming to her town and taking all the women in
cattle cars. Since Geirda was young they sent her with the other young girls of the town and
separated her from her mother since her mother was older of age. Her mother and her would then
be separated from each other and unfortunately never see each other again. She explains that when
they grouped her up with the younger girls in the town and she saw how her mother was sent with...

A SS officer had to grab her and take her off from her mother. The SS officer had told her that she
was too young to die and for that reason she could not go with her mother. This scene was the
most powerful and tragic to me because I myself could not bare being apart form my mother in
such a time like back then. I possibly could just not imagine my life without my mother. My
mother is my all and everything. For that reason I believe that particular scene felt so powerful
specifically to me. This scene could offer various lessons or messages, but the one I think is the
biggest is to value and respect your parents because you never know if you will see them the
next day. The Nazis dehumanized Jews in many ways. One of the ways Jews were dehumanized
was by transporting them to places in cramped cattle cars like if they were some type of animals.
They were called animals and made less of. An object was valued more than they were. The Nazis
took all their rules and mortalities including

Analysis Of Tom Wacaster s Book Galatians
In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common
level, sound commentaries of the Bible. Books such as this are very beneficial, as they assist an
average member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster
stated himself, was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to
give just one precious soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been
worth the time spent in preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this
worthy objective and more with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title
suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common
level, average audience. Wacaster does not delve into complex conversations of textual variants,
manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or
phraseology that is above the understanding of most individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple,
straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on the wonderful book of Galatians.
With many commentaries that are written at a graduate and scholarly level, a more basic
approach is much appreciated and needed. Wacaster took a very direct approach in organizing
Studies in Galatians. It is setup as a verse by verse commentary, with each verse being given in the
American Standard Version and then followed by the author s discussion of

Esther And Judith Essay
Scripture or Not: Esther and Judith
Esther, an early secular novel, never mentions God but is Scripture (included in the canon). A
Jewish historical novel that portrays Judith, who saves her people through honoring vows, praying
and creative action; has been rejected/accepted in Judaism and Christianity so that it is Scripture
/not Scripture depending on the applied canon (list of authoritative/sacred works). For Protestants it
is not (Countryman; Coogan 8). Disparity in treatment of these works is attributable to the
evolution of the Hebrew/Old Testament canon. In fact, only the Torah has generally been accepted
since Old Testament times.
The Hebrew Bible included, along with the Torah, the closed sets of Neviim (prophets) and
Ketuvim (writings) together called the Tanakh (Coogan 3 4). These, including Esther, were
upheld as canon at Jamnia (AD 90) by agreement with three criteria: written prior to 399 BCE, in
Hebrew (with allowances made for Aramaic), and widely used (Schwab, Sharon; Coogan 5 6).
Esther was set in the Persian period and possibly written as early as the fifth century BCE
(Crawford 855). It provided etiology and the megillot used for a celebration not prescribed by the
Torah; and was included for this reason (Coogan 518, 6). Judith may have originally been ... Show

It contained all the intertestamental Greek deuterocanonical books including Judith (Marlowe). The
Latin Vulgate, a translation by St Jerome, a Biblical scholar, under Pope Damasus I, reduced the
Greek books in the canon, but retained Judith (Gonzalez 237; Marlowe). This translation eventually
was affirmed as the Roman Catholic canon in 1546 at the Council of Trent as Catholicism
responded to the Protestant Reformation (Coogan 7). Clearly, Judith was indeed part of the
christian canon at one

Modern-Day Vaccine Development Raising Eyebrows Essay
Introduction Vaccine development is an old and complicated process, often requires more than a
decade to complete. The modern system of vaccine development, regulation and testing was
developed during the 20th century. To engender a vaccine mediated immunization or protection has
been a major challenge. Presently available vaccines work primarily through the induction of the
antigen specific antibodies. The effectiveness of any vaccine is determined by the quality of the
antibodies, as their work pattern and avidity. For a long term effect through vaccines, the antibodies
should be persistent or generated immune memory cells should be capable of instantaneous
response in case of any microbial exposure. Lot of new methods has emerged... Show more content

Another big achievement was the recognition of complete genome of Haemophilus influenza in
1995; which gave new directions to immunization. Vaccine Design and Development Development
of vaccines includes two broad stages. First stage covers laboratory and animal Studies including
recognition of appropriate antigens e.g. screening, creation of a vaccine concept, efficacy testing
and manufacturing of the vaccine at good standards. This stage may last for 1 2 years and often
some candidate vaccines cannot go beyond this stage due to the potential lack of immunity
generation. After this, the next step includes clinical studies on human beings. First a small group
of humans are tested with the vaccine, followed by a larger group, to assess the safety and extent of
the immune response that vaccine can provoke. Successful trial phases are followed by an approval
and licensing procedure. FDA approves the labeling of vaccine after satisfaction and inspection of
the manufacturing unit. Vaccines work through interrupting with innate or adaptive immunity as
well as humoral immunity. Immunity is a complex interplay of humoral and cellular immune
factors, but the required amount of antibody for defense against a pathogen is an important
contemplation in vaccine development 3, 4. Vaccines mediated protection Antibodies are specific
vaccine induced immune effectors that are produced by B lymphocytes, and have the capability to
bind with toxin or a pathogen. Other latent

  • 2. A Trip to the Roman Theatre Essay A Trip to the Roman Theatre Morning at last! I have been waiting for this day for so long. Today is March the 15th. Today is the day when the whole of Italy will celebrate the festival of Anna Perenna the goddess of the year. I love festivals, because everyone is on holiday and all the citizens are forbidden to work or do business. I am thrilled because I am going to the theatre to see a play. I am very fortunate that my father has paid for the actors and producers to perform the play and he has also paid for the scenery and costumes. As well as this he has paid for all the citizens of Pompeii to come and watch the play. My father has given my mother and me a special token, which entitles us to ... Thank you Mistress Livianabefore you go bring me my metal mirror Of course Mistress My mother had often told me how much fun she had when she went to the theatre. Her favourite play writer and actor was Titus Maccius Plautus. She told me about the hilarious comedies with their rude jokes by Titus Maccius Plautus. My mother also liked watching more serious plays. She told me that even though they were only plays, they portrayed life very well, and were very realistic. She told me about one particular play she watched, this was a serious play and at the end of it the main character in the play was murdered by his friend. • 3. Listening, Smell, And Taste With Forts 47758 Touch, Look, Listen, Smell, and Taste With Forts Think back to a favorite childhood memory and the sense that most often triggers it. Does the feel of dough between your fingers remind you of being in the kitchen with Grama? Does the color combination of red and purple stir familiar feelings inside you? Perhaps the spring sun on your skin gathers memories of backyard games with neighborhood friends. Most of our powerful memories associate an experience with a sense. These sense based reactions then become triggers for recall. Sensory experiences and, therefore, sensory play, are valuable in the development of our children. Engaging the senses promotes learning and retention. Touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste allow humans to explore the world. With each interaction, we take in more valuable information, even unconsciously. Experience is our teacher. Solving problems and participating in make believe comes with exploring the world through play. These activities express creativity and build confidence. Furthermore, sensory play develops and refines the senses. This valuable childhood activity proves therapeutic, improves motor skills, increases awareness of the world and promotes language acquisition. Using Fort Magic kits fosters the use of the senses naturally. Children of all ages love forts and spend hours on end playing and imaging, all the while learning and developing healthily. • 4. The Problem of Global Warming Essay Global Warming is the increase of temperature on Earth which is caused by human activities and will have very serious consequences for life on Earth if humans don t start to do something about it now. Global Warming is caused when the Greenhouse Gases combines with the atmosphere and traps heat. It is strongly related to pre human and pre industrial global warming, it is also weakly related to depletion of ozone layer, which was caused by the CFC (Chlorofluorocarbons) gas. The effects of global warming on the environment are dangerous, such as: rising of sea level because polar caps melt, changes in the pattern of precipitation, floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes and tornadoes. These effects would take away life and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Nitrous oxide is the major greenhouse gas and has 296 times the effect of carbon dioxide (www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide, Feb, 2007). Human activities are the biggest contributor to global warming. Industrialization, transportation and forest burning releases gases that join the atmosphere and trap heat. Industrialization has been proved to release high amounts of carbon dioxide since the Industrial Revolution began in the early 19th century. The total amount of carbon dioxide has increased by one ? third of the usual amount in the atmosphere. Transportation uses fossil fuels to run and as a result, it produces gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Now, in the modern lifestyle, most of the people want and have private cars. This further increases the amount carbon dioxide released to the air by the means of transportation. The biggest cause of global warming is forest burning. This is because when we are burning forests, trees inside it, which usually absorb carbon dioxide, release lots amount of carbon dioxide. Besides this, the earth has also experienced natural global warming and ice ages several times before, which rises by up to 5 degree Celsius. A climatologist said that humans have contributed to Global Warming since 8,000 years ago, the year the amount of carbon dioxide started to increase. There are lots of negative effects on environment and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Free Trade Agreements In NAFTA states that are part of NAFTA such as Canada and the U.S. This active participation by the state has created a legal and political infrastructure that has given Canada its neoliberal identity and has allowed free trade to exist (McBride McNutt, 2007, p.186). Free Trade agreements such as NAFTA have decreased workers power and quality of life. NAFTA, which has extended protections for investors, has excluded protections of labour standards and worker rights (Faux as cited in NAFTA at Seven: Its impact on workers in all three nations, 2001, p.1). There is no Labour rights section in any chapter of NAFTA but is rather a side agreement which is troublesome for workers and unions (Kay, 2015, p.257). (ROWE) As the legal status of the visitor improves, the possessor of the land owes more of an obligation of protection. (ROWE). In Rowe, where an officer was injured while checking a vacant building, the court ruled that the landowners had a duty even though the officer was aware of the condition. • 7. The Fair Tax Is A Proposed Tax Reform The Fair TaxВ® is a proposed tax reform to the current taxation process of the federal government in the United States. Written by John Linder and first introduced to Congress in 1999, the Fair TaxВ® is a proposition for the federal government to get rid of all current taxes (including federal income taxes, estate taxes, payroll taxes, etc.) and taxonly the purchasing of goods and services for personal consumption. Instead of taxes being applied to income, each individual would receive their full paycheck with no federal taxes deducted and instead a 23% sales tax ($0.23 for every $1.00) would be included in the price of an item. This translates to about a 30% sales tax ($0.23 on top of every $0.77) today, because instead of the item being $1.00 it would be sold for $0.77 with a $0.23 tax on top, whereas the price under the Fair TaxВ® would be $1.00 with the tax included in the price. This percentage would be adjusted each year based on the government s revenue in the previous fiscal year. To make up for the large tax on sales, each citizen would receive a prebate or annual consumption allowance check that should negate the sales tax on purchases that are essential for living. The prebate would be given to each individual based on the poverty level. (1) There are several points made opposing the Fair TaxВ®, but in this paper I will mainly be discussing the supporting points and how it would benefit our country s citizens, businesses, economy, and government. • 8. Different Models And Theories Associated With Adult Learning There is several different models and theories associated with adult learning. Through my research it seems that andragogy is the first thing educators think of when adult learning process is mentioned. Malcolm Knowles says, Andragogy is the art and science of helping others learn (Merriam, Caffarella, Baumgartner, 2007). Andragogy are learningstrategies focused on adults. It is often interpreted as the process of engaging adultlearners with the structure of the learning experience (Clardy, 2005). Andragogy is an assumption that there are different characteristics and requirements when it comes to learning between adults and children. Therefore, the learning procedures used in teaching adults must be altered from the pedagogical procedures related to teaching children. Andragogy is based on five assumptions concerning the adult learner (ASTD, 2007). First is the assumption that as a person matures, their self concept moves from a dependent personality towards more of a self directing personality. (Merriam et al., 2007). At this point the learner is considered self directed. The second assumption is that an adult accumulates a growing reservoir of experience, which is a rich resource for learning (Merriam et al., 2007). Basically, adults can utilize their experiences to influence themselves and others. Third, the readiness for an adult to learn is in close relation to the developmental tasks of the adult s social role. (Clardy, 2005). This readiness to learn is a direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may be cheaper to purchase an older truck than a newer car, but in fuel and maintenance, the older truck will cost more. The pros and cons of this decision are all personal. The lower upfront costs may be more beneficial to one person than to another. A personal decision that I am struggling with right now is with my credit rating. I have two credit cards that have a high balance. These are both in my ex wife s possession. They are both delinquent on payments. I have to decide whether to just take out a high interest loan to pay these off and renew my credit rating, or to let her financial decisions affect my credit rating. The third principle of individual decision making is rational people think at the margin (Mankiw, 2007). This states that the benefit must exceed the cost. A personal experience with this would be that I have a truck that gets very low fuel mileage. I needed a car with better fuel economy, but have bad credit. I weighed the pros and cons of buying a car with a high interest loan, and felt that the benefit was worth the cost. While some would say there is nothing good to come from this, those who make these choices must feel there is. Mankiw (2007) points to the difference in value between water and diamonds. A marginal increase in a person s water supply will rarely come at a significant cost to the person. However, a marginal increase in diamonds is extremely valuable. • 12. The Crucial Role In The Urbanization Of Ancient Egypt Ancient Egypt is a complicated period in history to understand how their society became urbanized and how cities emerged in their region due to the geographical area along the Nile River. Through excavations and analyses, historians have been able to conclude that the Ancient Egyptians valued tombs and temples, and were in contact with the Near East due to rare findings of subterranean domestic housing. Analyses of tombs, temples, and the rare findings of domesticated housing tell the archeologists and historians about the urbanization process, however, these three features only provide the scholars with a limited amount of knowledge due to robbing of tombs, deterioration of buildings, and flooding of the Nile. Tombs play a crucial role in the urbanization of Ancient Egypt. For instance, they imply that Egyptians highly valued caring for and the honoring the deceased. Before dying, people would carefully select objects that they wanted to be placed in their tomb with them. The objects placed in the tomb with them would then reach the afterlife with the deceased person with the approval from Osiris (FOOTNOTE BOOK 83). However, many thieves have broken into tombs in order to steal precious objects (FOOTNOTE). This limits scholars knowledge on the urbanization of Ancient Egyptbecause these objects have been lost. A prime example of this can be seen in Hierakonpolis. The excavated tombs showed evidence of urban features from the paintings that remained in the tomb ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. A Thousand Years Of Good Prayer Deeper Than Words: Communication in A Thousand Years of Good Prayer, by Yiyun Li There are those who have a difficult time expressing themselves with words. It is as though there is a communication barrier between people even if they are speaking the same language. The struggle for successful communication can be even harder if different languages are spoken. Even if there are no words spoken, communicationbetween two people still occurs. Yiyun Li s short story A Thousand Years of Good Prayer offers an excellent study in communication. This study includes examples of communication barriers and the successful aspects of communication revealing the ultimate theme: communication does not need to be verbalized to have a relationship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the same way the language barrier hinders conversation. Mr. Shi knows little English and mostly speaks in Chinese. This hinders true communication between him and Madam, a woman he meets in the park He feels that sometimes they run out of English (406). When there are no more English words to be said, both revert to their native language. Neither Mr. Shi nor Madame truly understands what is being said. Mr. Shi wishes at times to communicate to Madam in English: But he is sure, even before he starts that his English would fail him (406). This struggle for words indicates the lack of communication between him and Madam, but it also indicates the language barrier between him and his daughter. He speaks primarily in Chinese, and while his daughter knows Chinese, she prefers to speak English: It s different Baba. We talk in English, and it s easier. I don t talk well in Chinese (413). His daughter does not like speaking in Chinese, and Mr. Shi struggles to converse in English. This problem undermines their relationship. Even though verbal communication is lacking, nonverbal communication is evident. Mr. Shi notices, her eyes behind her glasses, wide open and unrelenting, remind him of her younger years (408). • 14. How Did the Night of the Long Knives Help Hitler... The Night of the Long Knives was extremely significant in the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship and ultimately Hitler s power. This night of brutal murder and elimination of the Sturm Abteilung (SA) gave Hitler the support of the army, which he need for both the creation of a totalitarian state and his future foreign policy and also relieved the pressures on Hitler. However, The Night of the Long Kniveswas also the continuation of many other events, which could be described as equally as important, such as the Enabling Act and the Reichstag Fire. Almost in unification, the army praised the Night of the Long knives even though, general Kurt von Schleicher and Ferdinand von Bredow were among the many victims. The ill President Hindenburg, who was viewed as Germany s military hero, sent a telegram expressing his profoundly felt gratitude and congratulated Hitler for, nipping treason in the bud . Although many Germans approached the official news of the events as described by Josef Goebbels with doubtfulness, many others though took the government at its word, and believed Hitler had saved Germany from chaos and destruction. The Night of the Long knives represented a triumph for Hitler and a turning point for the German government. It established Hitler s image as the supreme judge of the German people . This event also sent a clear message to the public that even the most notable Germans were affected from arrest or even summary execution should the Nazi regime view them as a threat. Due to the Night of the Long Knives, it established a pattern of violence that would characterize the Nazi regime and desensitise the German citizens from executions of millions in the future. • 15. The Theories Of The Theory Of Evolution Eighty seven percent of American scientists believe that a series of random chemical and biological events produced mankind. However, the philosophical theory of evolution has no solid evidence, whereas creation can be proven. Science is supposed to be based on observation, right? The best theories satisfy the test of experimentation. No one can test if evolutionhappened. Non one can prove that evolution actually happened. But what evidence can we place against evolution? In 1859, Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species, introducing the theory of evolution. One hundred and fifty six years later, scientists still accept this senseless philosophy. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay states, Our school systems teach the children that they are nothing but glorified apes who are evolutionized out of some primordial soup (Snyder). Schools worldwide have presented exactly this to the young, impressionable minds of your future doctors, engineers, scientists, and presidents. They assure us that if we give a small amount of mud enough time it can, by itself, bring about the art of da Vinci, the plays of Shakespeare, the music of Mozart, and the brilliant mind of Einstein. Some people are even drawn in by the corny catch phrases and over dramatic acting. No matter the case, companies tend to spend billions of dollars in advertising, pursuing customers to buy their must have products, and spending whatever money necessary to get their messages across to those watching. Throughout the years, marketing executives have realized that they must refine their commercials and target buyers based on gender. • 19. Character Analysis Of The Wonder Woman In The Superman The difficult thing when adapting a comic is looking closely at the source material. Wonder Woman was sort of a campy character who would look pretty ridiculous running around on the street. Yeah, Lynda Carter rocked it back in the day, but she still looks ridiculous. Somehow, Patty Jenkins and crew managed to not only make a great superheromovie with a female lead, but also a great war movie. A great World War 1 movie! The last time we had a WW1 movie that took this much care was War Horse, and that movie wasn t very good. Premise: Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot (Chris Pine) who tells her about the massive conflict that s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny. This is the first time I walked out of a movie in the DC Extended Universe where I finally felt they did something right, and after watching Gal Gadot debut in Batman v Superman, it also retroactively makes that movie look better when you learn of her motivations in that film. I d explain it, but that would really kill the realization when you see the film. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad were all disappointing, but this film may be the film to put DC back on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Decade Of The 1980 S The decade of the 1980 s experienced a massive sorts of changes in economics and culture, this requires a certain analysis of the time and the way culture became intertwined with economics. The culture transformed and allowed the decade to be read as an experience of cultural products between cultureand economy. Through the conspicuous consumption of the decade, the 1980s encouraged a cultural shift towards complete commodification (what is this) and interaction with the market. Ronald Reagans presidency throughout the decade created a framework for the people, and ultimately, the culture to transform. Reaganomics was an economic vision, that expressed a way of looking at the world, a framework for understanding the economy and society and the individual s place within both (Troy and Cannato, eds 128). This serves to further understand and develop the relationship between society and economy. (how? Expand this quote, you used it for a reason) With the presidential leadership outlining this impression, it creates room for regeneration and reinvention to occur within the culture of the decade. Through the implementation of Reaganomics, the American culture was reinvigorated with a new vision of economics, and even individuality. Reagan consistently addressed the American people and his effort to restore the self confidence of the American people and their faith in the traditions and institutions of the country was an important part of the national recovery during the 1980s (Troy and Cannato, eds, 31). A new cultural space was created and the American culture transformed in something that was produced and consumed. Americans spent time learning to find their space under the new economic shift and Reagan s confident leadership. The drive to support American confidence through the economic shifts cuts through the class politics and allows for Reaganomics to shape the decade in the later years. We spend most of our day consuming media images, whether we mean to or not. Every sign we pass, each magazine we happen to glance at the cover of, our friends and strangers Instagram posts, and Facebook ads and articles frame a structure of norms and standards that reflect society s inherent prejudices and preferences. Women are targeted in advertisements to create a standard of beauty and behaviors that they will never reach. The way they are invented on television, in shows and movies, paints them as a species with very little variety, no depth, and inaccurate portrayals of their current existence in society. From toddlerhood, the female gender is oppressed by what society believes they should be. In children s shows and advertisements, female children have a specific look that they then are expected to emulate, cute and pink adornments, playing with dolls and learning lessons about gender stereotyping without even being aware of what the difference between the sexes even are. Then, when they are older, they are sexualized, underrepresented, overdramatized, and molded into what they think they should be. When they break this mold, they are stigmatized. In a woman s life, she will struggle with self image and identity issues because she will never achieve the goals media images have set for her to reach. When women become viewed as individuals and are recognized for their achievements and the ideal for them becomes about something beyond their looks, and when representation is fair and equal, we will have achieved fair media representation for women. • 22. The Importance Of Being A Hero The most important and impactful part of being a hero is essentially doing heroic things. A heroic action, in this case, would be qualified as an act that benefits others more than yourself and is characterized as having a generally upstanding moral motive. In this respect, Dr. Manhattan would be the most successful hero because not only does he end a war, but he is also the reason that nuclear war was postponed for so long (Moore, Gibbons 130). Just having a godlike hero present that could stop nuclear conflict at any time was enough to keep countries from annihilating all humans. From this logic, Dr. Manhattan saved the most lives for the longest period of time therefore doing the most good. This outweighs his lack of empathy and compassion. Regardless of how he feels about people, he still believes they have the capability of doing good and he protects them. Similarly, Ozymandias also takes part in preventing nuclear war. However, he does this in what is essentially the most evil way: by killing millions (Moore, Gibbons 401). He thinks he is doing what is right, but he is responsible for upholding values rather than revolutionizing the world. Killing millions of innocent citizens, by most people s standards, immoral and unjust, and therefore Veidt is not acting entirely as a hero. Furthermore, it cannot be ignored that by making this sacrifice, Veidt saved more than he killed. When referring to villainous personalities, a common and determining factor is not valuing ... • 24. Understanding The Meaning Of Love What is love? Many people do not know the meaning of love, they think that it is what we feel but it s what we do that demonstrates love. (Deem, 2011). There are many ways to express your love to your family or friends but there is one true love, God. I will be discussing the biblical meaning of love and what God wants us to apply to ourselves to have healthy relationships by representing his loveto others. There are four types of love which are Forge, Eros, Philia and Agape. (Wellman, 2014) Forge is family love as in love for your parents, siblings, and children. (Wellman, 2014). According to Merriam Webster the meaning is Parental affection; the instinctive affection which animals have for their young. Parents manifest this love by providing their family members with shelter, protection, and financial needs. Older brothers demonstrate this love by providing support and protection to their younger siblings especially if they are being bullied or mistreated. In Proverbs 31:15 17 you see the love of a mother towards her whole household, it states She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day s work for her servant girls. She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. (NLT). The love between a man and a woman which is sensual love, acceptable in marriage is Eros. (Wellman, 2014). There are many people that practice this type of love outside of marriage which is ... Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him. At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS) transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Power struggles become uninteresting to you when you change your intention of winning to learning about yourself (Gary Zukav). A comedic play written by William Shakespeare demonstrates the theme struggle for power that develops throughout the story of The Tempest. The Tempest is defined as an outrageous storm in which Shakespeare uses to enhance the play. The General Praise type has three main sections that includes a call to praise God, an explanation or reasons for praising God, and a renewed call to Praise (Lucas, 2008, p. 2). The General Praise type is evident in Psalms97 as it begins with a call to Praise God. It mentions, Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! (Psalms 97:1, ESV). Verses 2 to 11 gives the explanation for praising God. It mentions that God is righteous and just; He is faithful and will conquer evil and idolatry. Through this, everything, even the mountains, will praise Him and know that He is God (Psalms 97:5 7). Psalms 97 also emphasizes God s kingship in verse 9 by noting that He is the most high over all the earth . Another reason for praising God is that He will protect and deliver those who are faithful from evil. This hymn ends by recalling for a praise to God. • 28. Shakespeare s King Lear And Marlowe s Doctor Faustus Shakespeare s King Lear and Marlowe s Doctor Faustus are two examples of early modern texts, one a tragedy and the other a morality play respectively, which deal with the theme of power at the crux of its narrative. Between both texts it is evident that different characters utilize their power or authority differently some unwisely whilst some maliciously . In either case, the use of power progresses the plays and drives the majority of main characters. To begin with, both plays incorporate the conventions of an Aristotelian tragedy. One of Aristotle s primary conventions of a tragedy in his Poetics, is the notion of hamartia where: A man not outstanding in virtue or justice, brought down through vice or depravity, who falls into adversity not through vice or depravity but because he errs in some way (Aristotle 2013, p. 32) It can be argued that both Lear s and Faustus hamartia are intertwined in one way or another with power. Lear s error of judgement is his hubris when he asks his daughters who doth love us most so he can split up his kingdom so the largest bounty may extend where nature doth with merit challenge (Shakespeare 2004, 1.1.50 52). Pride and vanity leads him to test his daughters and distributing his kingdom. This is ultimately the starting point leading to the tragic consequences at the end of the play. Similarly, Faustus shows excessive ambition in regards of knowledge and power O, what a world of profit and delight, of power, of honor, of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Analysis In Tom Stoppard s play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, we see Ros and Guil adventure through their confused yet contented lives as events occur around them that seal their fate. In hindsight, their presence and lives seem rather pointless. The Tragedy of Hamlet could have functioned fine without them, so why are they there and why are they not a single character? Most readers could interpret that they each embody some concept. This literature review will attempt to investigate the symbolism of the story and how other authors perceive it. When analyzing these characters, one cannot help but wonder what Shakespeare had in mind for them. American Historian, Preserved Smith, delves into a few of Shakespeare s influences. He and many contemporaries matriculated at Wittenberg. Shakespeare then may have chosen Wittenberg simply on account of its fame. It is interesting to note, however, that Hamlet s Wittenberg friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, may actually have been drawn from the life, as there were men of this name at the university. Hawthorne uses these devices to display his themes and ideas regarding the twisted dark path of evil and the inner fears of a man who treads the unknown path of temptation and curiosity. Many could conclude that the companion in the forest is a sign of the devil by carrying this staff and leading a young gullible man into the realm of evil. On the other hand, one might gather that the devil is tricking Brown into following him into evil temptation by using the staff as a religious distraction. In the bible Moses holds a shepherds staff to lead individuals towards religious beliefs. Moses is looked up to as a religious leader in the bible and if Brown is following the devil he may be confused by the fact that the devil is not a religious leader but an evil symbol. Hawthorne presents this idea in the story by describing the staff as a great black snake, so curiously wrought that it might almost be seen to twist and wriggle itself like a living serpent. • 38. The Wedding Of Ursula Essay When telling the story of Ursula s childhood, Lawrence tells us early on that, Ursula was the one for realities. (259). From this point it is apparent that her story is going to be different. While she relies on the hard realities of life and is very caught up in the things outside of her, her mind body conscious self is just as active as Tom or Anna s. In fact, it may be even stronger for her because she seems to be more aware of it: She became aware of herself, that she was a separate entity in the midst of an unseparated obscurity, that she must go somewhere, she must become something. (Lawrence 281). She has her first experience with love at an early age, when she encounters Anton Skrebensky. At one point during their courtship, Anton comes to the wedding of Ursula s uncle, Fred, and Ursula has a very distinct experience similar to the one her mother Anna had in the cornfield. Her two breasts opened to make way for it, her body opened wide like a quivering anemone, a soft, dilated invitation touched by the moon. She wanted the moon to fill in to her, she wanted more, more communion with the moon, consummation. (Lawrence 316 17). • 39. Taylor s Scientific Management Principles in Current... Firstly, big companies are often divided into several departments to focus on specialization, since the change in structure allows them to divide the tasks of the whole organization into manageable sub tasks and allocates them to organisational units that are responsible for their completion (Rollinson, 2005: 461). However, when the organization s structure does not include specialized jobs concerned with analysing the environment, the companies usually fail to adapt to changing circumstances (ibid: 463). So, scientific managementworks better with small companies which do not usually need to react to change (Caldari, 2007: 74). This lack of flexibility, the main defect attributed to the Fordism model (which adopted Taylorism s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CHRMВґs responsibilities involve, among others, job design, staff selection, training and motivation and job performance criteria, all of which were Taylor s contributions (Bell and Martin, 2012: 107). Thus, following Taylor s ideas, organizations in our days make huge efforts to hire the right people to a position and to train them to develop their skills (Mckinnon, 2010: 1). One example could be human resources policies in consulting firms, which focus on hiring unexperienced workers with great potential and, then, train and develop their skills so that they can make very valuable workers for a low cost (BabГo et al, 2007: 50). 3. Bringing the scientifically designed job and the scientifically designed workers together (Rollinson, 2005: 9). This Principle translates into ensuring that all work is done in accordance to the principles of the developed science. Even though the basic job of a manager is to guarantee that an organization achieves its goals, a key aspect to take into account is making sure that employees are performing their tasks so that they contribute to the accomplishment of organization s goals (Certo, 2003: 3 4), and this involves monitoring performance and making the necessary corrections (ibid: 11). Seeing that we cannot assure everything is done as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In most cases labor unions are born out of unfair working conditions and wages were salaries that may be minimal. One might not think of poor working conditions minimal salary when it comes to the three major sports of professional baseball professional basketball in the National Football League. You look at athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Peyton Manning, and Alex Rodriguez and see the amount of money that these individual have earned through the years of playing professional sports you would have a hard time finding anyone feeling sorry for them. When it comes to these perks that today s professional athletes enjoy is do to those who came before them that had the audacity to challenge the owners. What is diplomacy, knowing how to deal with people in a particular way to ultimately get what you want. That s my interpretation of the diplomacy as it pertains to negotiations. In sports one may ask how negotiations spiral out of control to the point where you get some type of work stoppage by strike or by lockout. • 41. Amylase Is An Enzyme Commonly Found In Human Saliva. It Amylase is an enzyme commonly found in human saliva. It is used to catabolize starch into glucose and maltose by lowering the activation energy barrier, and by breaking the alpha 1 4 bonds of amylose and amylopectin and the alpha 1 6 bonds of amylopectin. Amylase is found in one s saliva and pancreas, and Porcrine Pancreatic О± Amylase is amylase that has been isolated from the pancreas of a pig. While amylase is effective at breaking down starch, in the normal saliva pHrange of 6.02 to 7.14 (Schmidt Nielsen, 1946), any pH environment outside of this range will decrease the reaction rate. The same goes for the temperature of the amylase s environment. At a normal body temperature of around 37В°C, the amylase functions at its fastest rate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this experiment we found this prediction to be true; even though there is no true consensus on the exact optimum pH for alpha amylase activity, all of the sources place it around 6.00 or 7.00. Disasters not only affect the business and organizational continuity, it will also result in a major modification of the organization s operational mechanisms (Awasthy, 2009). Businesses now prepare a business continuity plan and a disaster recovery plan because of these reasons so that they may simplify the disaster management when next one occurs. It is highly important for every business to have an effective disaster recovery plan to go to in the event of a disaster (Thejendra, 2008). This disaster recovery plan has been created and prepared for Bain Company. This plan will determine the goals and objectives as well as the programs for properly handling natural disasters and threats that could harm the company. A framework will be provided for recovery by predicting future threats or disasters that could happen around or within the business. This DRP will be targeted toward the security and protection of the business customers and employees. This plan will also help to mitigate business downtime that will usually happen during a disaster. A few examples of disasters that could occur are natural disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. As well as terrorist threats such as strikes, bomb threats, fires, etc. (Thejendra, 2008). One of many scenes that I feel was the most powerful to me was when Geirda explained to us how she left her mother. I m not that certain as how she told her story, but I remember her saying it started with SS officers coming to her town and taking all the women in cattle cars. Since Geirda was young they sent her with the other young girls of the town and separated her from her mother since her mother was older of age. • 44. Analysis Of Tom Wacaster s Book Galatians In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common level, sound commentaries of the Bible. Books such as this are very beneficial, as they assist an average member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster stated himself, was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to give just one precious soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been worth the time spent in preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this worthy objective and more with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common level, average audience. Wacaster does not delve into complex conversations of textual variants, manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or phraseology that is above the understanding of most individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple, straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on the wonderful book of Galatians. With many commentaries that are written at a graduate and scholarly level, a more basic approach is much appreciated and needed. Wacaster took a very direct approach in organizing Studies in Galatians. It is setup as a verse by verse commentary, with each verse being given in the American Standard Version and then followed by the author s discussion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Esther And Judith Essay Scripture or Not: Esther and Judith Esther, an early secular novel, never mentions God but is Scripture (included in the canon). A Jewish historical novel that portrays Judith, who saves her people through honoring vows, praying and creative action; has been rejected/accepted in Judaism and Christianity so that it is Scripture /not Scripture depending on the applied canon (list of authoritative/sacred works). For Protestants it is not (Countryman; Coogan 8). Disparity in treatment of these works is attributable to the evolution of the Hebrew/Old Testament canon. In fact, only the Torah has generally been accepted since Old Testament times. The Hebrew Bible included, along with the Torah, the closed sets of Neviim (prophets) and Ketuvim (writings) together called the Tanakh (Coogan 3 4). These, including Esther, were upheld as canon at Jamnia (AD 90) by agreement with three criteria: written prior to 399 BCE, in Hebrew (with allowances made for Aramaic), and widely used (Schwab, Sharon; Coogan 5 6). Esther was set in the Persian period and possibly written as early as the fifth century BCE (Crawford 855). It provided etiology and the megillot used for a celebration not prescribed by the Torah; and was included for this reason (Coogan 518, 6). Judith may have originally been ... • 46. Modern-Day Vaccine Development Raising Eyebrows Essay Introduction Vaccine development is an old and complicated process, often requires more than a decade to complete. The modern system of vaccine development, regulation and testing was developed during the 20th century. To engender a vaccine mediated immunization or protection has been a major challenge. Presently available vaccines work primarily through the induction of the antigen specific antibodies. The effectiveness of any vaccine is determined by the quality of the antibodies, as their work pattern and avidity. For a long term effect through vaccines, the antibodies should be persistent or generated immune memory cells should be capable of instantaneous response in case of any microbial exposure. Lot of new methods has emerged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another big achievement was the recognition of complete genome of Haemophilus influenza in 1995; which gave new directions to immunization. Vaccine Design and Development Development of vaccines includes two broad stages. First stage covers laboratory and animal Studies including recognition of appropriate antigens e.g. screening, creation of a vaccine concept, efficacy testing and manufacturing of the vaccine at good standards. This stage may last for 1 2 years and often some candidate vaccines cannot go beyond this stage due to the potential lack of immunity generation. After this, the next step includes clinical studies on human beings. First a small group of humans are tested with the vaccine, followed by a larger group, to assess the safety and extent of the immune response that vaccine can provoke. Successful trial phases are followed by an approval and licensing procedure. FDA approves the labeling of vaccine after satisfaction and inspection of the manufacturing unit. Vaccines work through interrupting with innate or adaptive immunity as well as humoral immunity. Immunity is a complex interplay of humoral and cellular immune factors, but the required amount of antibody for defense against a pathogen is an important contemplation in vaccine development 3, 4. Vaccines mediated protection Antibodies are specific vaccine induced immune effectors that are produced by B lymphocytes, and have the capability to bind with toxin or a pathogen. Other latent ...
