Foreshadowing In The Awakening
Karissa Sirois Mrs. Schroeder AP Literature and Composition 29 December, 2017 The Awakening
1988 Prompt There are many literary works that have mental or psychological events. This revelation
or discovery almost always plays as the climactic peak in each piece of literature. Author s create such
climaxes through foreshadowing, suspense and progressive building up to the point of intellectual or
emotional discovery. In Chopin s The Awakening Edna Pontellier, the main protagonist, experiences
an awakening that is extremely climactic for the reader s. Edna s awakening is emotional, sexual and
intellectual because she discovers her internal desire for independence, the consequence of freedom
and the realization that it is unattainable. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edna s sexual awakening is one of the first things addressed in the first chapter when she chooses not
to wear her wedding rings on the beach. She spends most of her time with the notoriously flirtatious
Robert, not with her children or husband. From her interactions with Robert and her more reserved
habits, compared to most Creoles, reader s are able to infer the growth of their relationship and a
possible affair in the future. After her vacation back in New Orleans as Edna s emotional awakening
develops, but not as obviously as her sexual awakening. The first direct implication of an affair comes
when Leonce goes to Doctor Mandelet. In chapter XXIII the Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna,
simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce described to him, but when he meets her she
seems perfectly fine. One thing the Doctor does notice is her behavior with Alcee. Chopin notes the
Doctor happier in his selection, when he told the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a
woman s love, seeking strange, new channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of
fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in
Edna s future, and the Doctor is one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Once
Alcee further perseus Edna and kisses her it is described as the first kiss of her life to which her nature
had really responded. It was a flaming torch that kindled desire. (Chapter XXVII) completing her
sexual awakening and heightening her emotional

Theme Of A Grain Of Wheat
Thus, Ngugi resort to use mythological figures in order unite and liberate the Kenyans, also he uses
such figures to fossilize the Mau Mau in Kenyan s mind and to feel proud of their revolution. Neatly,
Ngugi enlists and compares Mau Mau members to Prometheus (who defied to steal the fire from other
gods to pave the liberation s way). No wonder Ngugi considers Mau Mau fighters as symbols of
resistance because they suffered for getting freedom and liberation. (Ngugi. Detained1981: 111)
The myth is directly linked to the Kikuyu legend of Gikuyu and Mumbi, the founding ancestors of the
Kikuyu community. The story tells that Gikuyu, the founder of the tribe and Munkuyu, also called

He exhibits a great deal of struggle for independence and sacrifice to the domestic and socio political
issues in the novel. One of such women is Wambui: ...she carried secrets from the villages to the forest
and back to the villages and towns (A Grain of Wheat , p.23). The narrator also recounts the exploits
of the old woman at the battle field where ... she once carried a pistol tied to her thighs near the groin

they also create the opportunity for us to recognise the crucial roles women play during the colonial
period when men were denouncing their oaths of secrecy to follow the white man ... Karanja ... sold

about African women. They played important roles, such as economic, domestic and

Beauty In America Research Paper
Just because the definition of beauty in America is to be like a Barbie: tall, slender, and gorgeous, does
not mean that is the same definition in other countries. To be called beautiful in Thailand, one must
have light, fair skin to be labeled as an attractive individual. Instead of spending money on tanning
products like Americans do, Thais spend money on products that have whitening agents in them such
as lemon juice (Magnesi). In Japan, a person who is considered beautiful has a clear, smooth
complexion and stick straight hair (Magnesi). Japanese women that have wavy, or curly hair that
straight haired Americans long for, straighten their hair by whatever means necessary (Magnesi).

Throughout history, the way one defined beauty has changed. In the renaissance, women that were
curvy, and fleshy were considered to be the most attractive. Paintings from the renaissance show
women that would now be considered overweight in our time, but at that time they were considered
the epitome of sexy (CITE). Also, in the renaissance, women believed the lighter the hair, the better.
They strived for a pale face, and deep red lips (CITE). However, the women of the Victorian era were
much different than the renaissance women. They were very conscious about their bodies, and beauty
meant having the smallest waistline humanly possible (CITE). To achieve this small waistline, women
wore corsets. Their corsets were so tight that women could barely breathe, and sitting down was out of
the question (Cite). As for makeup in the Victorian era, only high class women were expected to wear
makeup sparingly. Bold colors were considered to be uncouth, and reserved for prostitutes (cite). In
the 1920 s instead of tight corsets to show off their curves, women wore loose dresses, and some even
bound their chests with a cloth to achieve a boyish look (cite). Going

Kindness And Generosity In The Film Cinderella
On September 11, 2001 several men associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked
four American planes and navigated them into the world trade center, the pentagon and a field in
Pennsylvania. The attack immediately impacted the entire United States as virtually everyone in the
world mourned the deaths of the thousands killed from this act of pure malice. However, a small tribe
in South Kenya, isolated from modern technologies, was informed about this attack around seven or
eight months after they actually occurred. After this tribe heard about the news, not only did they
mourn for the lost Americans, the entire tribe held a solemn meeting and decided they would send
their most precious possession sixteen cows to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme of the Little Golden Book Cinderella is very similar to the theme represented in the film,
Cinderella. The central theme in the film is that courage and kindness can help overcome the evils and
struggles faced in life. The kindness element in both of these stories is similar as explained before.
The kindness of Cinderella is displayed specifically in the Little Golden Book version because
Cinderella was described as the author as being kind to everyone even Lucifer (4). Lucifer was the
dark black cat who was very selfish and would exploit Cinderella because of her graciousness. The
careful illustration and depiction of Lucifer was also very significant. The illustrator decided to make
the cat a dark black color because it is an archetype that represents evil. The representation expressed
through the illustration directly overlaps with the description of the character which means that it is
very powerful for Cinderella to have the power to show kindness to the cat. Cinderella also displays
hospitality and generosity towards her Stepmother and Stepsisters in both of these versions. The
Stepmother is depicted in both of these stories as torturing and severely lacerating Cinderella.
However, Cinderella still finds a way to remain kind and overcome the anguish and hardships that she
faces. She also portrays these traits in the Grimm Brother s version of Cinderella . However, the

Juvenile Delinquency Paper
The article I chose is titled Sex Differences in the Predictors of Juvenile Delinquency: Females Are
More Susceptible to Poor Environments; Males Are Influenced More by Low Self Control by Majone
Steketee, Marianne Junger, and Josine Junger Tas. I feel this articles main contributions come from the
fact that it offers three possible hypotheses for female juvenile delinquency. The first hypothesis is the
exposure hypothesis, which argues that females are less likely to be exposed to risk factors and more
likely to be protected, making them less likely to become juvenile delinquents. The second hypothesis
is the vulnerability hypothesis which basically states that males and females hold different degrees of
receptiveness in regards to risk factors.

Exes Romoff Analysis
In the slam poem Exes Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda speak to an issue inherent in many
relationships: how can a committed devotion to love provoke such an enslaving and abusive
relationship? Romoff and Cuda use extended metaphors, juxtaposition, and appealing to extremes to
evoke an apprehensive atmosphere that shifts to an accusatory tone. At the beginning, the speakers use
dialogue to create this apprehensive tone with the pleading conversation between the girl and her
boyfriend. The speaker uses the line, IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME I LL KILL MYSELF to
exemplify how the boyfriend is appealing to the extremes. He uses the claim that he does not want his
girlfriend to breakup with him, and creates a threat, which forces the girl to stay in

Comparison Of Pulmonary And Systemic Circuits
There are two circuits in which blood flows through: pulmonary and systemic. The pulmonary circuit
does two things: bring blood without oxygen (oxygen depleted) to the lungs and blood with oxygen
(oxygen rich) back to the heart. Blood flows out of the right side of the heart to the pulmonary arteries
to the lungs. This oxygen depleted blood then becomes oxygen rich in the lungs and releases carbon
dioxide. This oxygen rich blood then flows back to the right side of the heart to be used in the
systemic circuit.
The systemic circuit also does two things: brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body besides the
lungs and oxygen depleted blood to the heart. Blood flows out of the left side of the heart to the aorta.
Aorta is the name of the artery which brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body. This blood is then
transported from the aorta to connecting arteries and capillaries. Diffusion takes place in the
capillaries in which the blood becomes oxygen depleted and takes in carbon dioxide, unlike the
pulmonary circuit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The upper two chambers, atria, carry blood to the heart. The lower two chambers, ventricles, carry
blood out of the heart. In the pulmonary circuit, blood flows from the veins to the right atrium to the

atrium to the left ventricle to the aorta to the branching arteries to the capillaries throughout the body.
The heart has valves to prevent the backward flow of blood. Atrioventricular valves separate the atria
and ventricles. The pulmonary valve and aortic valve separate the ventricles and arteries. A heartbeat
is the sound the valves make as they open and

Cleopatra s Family Ruled Over Egypt
Cleopatra s family ruled over Egypt for more than 100 years before she was born in 69 B.C. Myths
and stories involving Cleopatra s life inspired many movies, plays, and books, including Antony and
Cleopatra by Shakespeare. She has become on of the most popular ancient Egyptian queens.
(Biography.com, ??)
Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator, the last queen of Egypt, was born in about 69 B.C. The large line of
rulers that ruled over Egypt started in about 32 B.C. After the death of Alexander the Great the next
era begun when Alexander s general, Ptolemy, took over as king of Egypt. In the next three centuries,
his family would follow in his footsteps. In its largest times, Ptolemaic, Egypt, was one of the world s
largest powers. (Biography.com, ??)
Cleopatra s dad was King Ptolemy XII. Her mom was not well known, but some say she was her
father s sister. It was believed for a long time that Cleopatra was Greek, but a lot of people think she
might have been part African. (History.com staff, 2009)
Soon after, power complications started to happen between Cleopatra and her brother, Ptolemy XIII.
While this was in play, Cleopatra fled to Syria, where she put together an army to defeat her rival in
order to declare the throne to herself to solve the power issues. She returned to Egypt with an army
and faced her brother at Pelusium (a coliseum type place) located on the empire s eastern edge.

What Are The Arguments For The Interlopers
The Interlopers Throughout the short story, The Interlopers, author Saki creates a disagreement
between the two main characters, Georg Znaeym and Ulrich von Gradwitz, over who should get the
land. If the two men had settled their argument in the beginning of their friendship instead of holding
the argument out they could have become friends; however, if they get in arguments so small, their
friendship could have been rattled in the future. Perhaps if Georg would have stayed on his own land
they would not have even had to start this argument. The two men would not have even had to meet.
Finally, if Ulrich would have shared his land with Georg they would be alive at the end of the story. In
attempt to destruct one another, the two men destructed

Trip Down Florida Highway 101
If you are like me, you have grown bored with the theme parks, not to mention the expense, in
Orlando, Florida. Here are a few ideas that have been fun filled and educational for our family. We
travel in a camper, which opens a whole new world of travel. If you don t have a camper, one can be
rented from almost any RV salesperson. Prices vary, but it will average out to about the same as a

enjoy Florida then try a trip down Florida Highway 101. You can pick up Highway 101 in
Jacksonville, Florida. As you head south you will be able to view miles of beaches. There are many
places to park and enjoy the beach at your leisure. You will be passing through several small towns
that offer the traveler sights and services. Make sure you plan a day or two stop in the oldest city St.
Augustine, Florida. The shops and sights are well worth a two day stop. From here continue south and

MY TWO BROTHERS
No two people are exactly alike, and my two older brothers, Thu Nguyen and Thang Nguyen, are no
exceptions. When I think of them, I think of Rudyard Kipling s words, East is East. West is West.
Never the twain shall meet.

Like the majority of oriental men, Thu is short, small, and has a full moon shaped face. His smooth

Trinity To Nazienzus Essay
The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he
defines the Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference to
time, and not in a corporeal manner. This means that though numerically distinct there is no severance
of Essence. Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate to the Father
or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though the Holy Spirit
and the Son are from [the Father], though not after Him, they still share the same essence as Him in
the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that has not existed for
all time would not be God by definition. Nazienzus explains this by saying that the cause is not
necessarily prior to its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He goes so far to say that the notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother
warrants the loss of adoption into God s Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as the
body and the soul are two distinct natures, but there are not two sons or two gods in the person of
Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There are
plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the dismay
of the Pharisees before Abraham was, I am, which caused them to try and stone Him for what they
considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered after fasting for
40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on the cross, even
though his deity descended to Sheol. This shows the validity of the Trinitarian model, which means
that the Three are One and the same in Godhead, as Christ is still the fully functioning second person

Empathy In The Healthcare Field
In the healthcare field, empathy is an essential trait. Without empathy, patients can get depressed and
lose sight of their end goal. The image above illustrates how a patient is treated with facial expression

of empathy, (Streep). Empathy is, in fact, so powerful that it has given strength to the weak and lack of
empathy has weakened the strong. In a world full of blatant good versus evil and where terror and
conflict are unceasing, one must remain empathetic.

Fortunato Vs Montresor
As October ends and Halloween comes to its final hours, it is the perfect time to read a great author s
eerie story. Who better than Edgar Allan Poe? The Cask of Amontillado is a story told by a narrator
that goes by Montresor. He has come up with a plan against Fortunato, a man who insulted him. It is
carnival season. Everyone is dressed in costumes, drinking the night away. Fortunato has somehow
insulted Montresor and he is seeking revenge. Montresor plays off of Fortunato s weakness, wine. He
claims to have a cask of Amontillado, that he isn t sure is authentic. He reassures Fortunato that
another man can help him prove that the wine is real but it just makes him want to help more. The
wine is in Montresor s vaults, deep in the catacombs of his family. The walls are covered in saltpeter
that gives Fortunato a bad cough. Montresor urges them to turn around, he acted as if he was too
worried about the health of Fortunato and said once again he could get help from someone else.
Instead Fortunato declined and started drinking more wine. Fortunato becomes so intoxicated he isn t
aware of what is going on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that Montresor shows sympathy and compassion for Fortunato s well being is complete irony.
Edgar finds it funny that Fortunato has no idea what is coming next, and that the Montresor practically
begged him to turn around and leave but he didn t which led to his ultimate demise. Fortunato would
die in darkness. No one would find him, he would starve to death, alone. It was the ultimate revenge
for Montresor. Fortunato, a well known wealthy man, would die forgotten and with nothing. The Cask
of Amontillado is one of many of Poe s dark demented stories. They re all filled with humor, horror,
and extreme irony. This story is a prime example of how much Poe liked to draw his audience in with
obscure, mysterious, and outright horrifying stories for pure entertainment. That is Edgar Allan Poe s
signature, and his

Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement
The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the People
(U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide
appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via
public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. However,
American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote. During the drafting period
of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote, however, voting rights have
drastically changed throughout the history of the United States. Through amendments passed over the
past two centuries, the Constitution has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of
supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the
majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly
supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza,
Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after
completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application
of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions
when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the
states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white
male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews,
2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of
power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people,
criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted
to each state to govern its people. By the onset of the Civil War

Animal Abuse In Animal Farm
The addiction drug of power can be good and controlled in small doses, but given to one person all at
once and without limits can lead to overdose, which is harmful not only to the people within the
society, but to the leader as well. In the intriguing, satirical novella, Animal Farm, by George Orwell,
the leadership of a revolution turns from it s all about the people, to a dystopian Stalinist society where
power is controlled under one person and one person only, usually with the help of a strong military
force. During the overthrow of the farm, led by Napoleon, their new society slowly turns into a funnel
to feed his greed for power. With little to eat and hard working hours, the animals on the farm are
having a hard time living with their caretaker, Mr. Jones, a repulsive man who does not feed or even
care for his animal s well being. It s sort of like a torture situation or slavery because they animals are
not getting their fair share of food and resources for working so hard. As the for the dog, when they
grow old and toothless, Jones ties a brick round their necks and drowns them in the nearest pond
(Orwell 9). Jones actions can be directly related to those of the last Russian Tsar, Tsar Nicholas II
during the uprising of communism in Russia and when all of his people in Russia were not getting fed
and getting worked to death, but still somehow surviving. The animals in the farm are being terrible

History and Significance of Cavendish Banana
Bananas The banana plant, or Musa acuminata, is one of the most important fruiting plants on Earth.
This plant belongs to the Musaceae family, also known as the banana family . The genus Musa refers
to large herbaceous flowering plants with fruit that is usually elongated and curved, with a yellow,
purple, or red rind covering soft starchy fruit (Merriam Webster). Banana plants are often mistaken for
trees, because their false stem or pseudostem resembles a tree trunk. However, trees are dicots with
organized vascular bundles while banana plants are monocots, which have scattered vascular bundles.
The average cultivated banana plant stands at 16 feet tall, although they may range from 10 to 23 feet
(Nelson 26). A mature banana ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, combined with their exceptional nutritional value an individual banana has an energy yield of
about 95 125 kcal and the ripe fruit comes equipped with a large variety of essential vitamins and
minerals makes them essential to food security worldwide (Anania, van Wyk). Price competition
among supermarkets has reduced margins, leading to lower prices for growers. Chiquita, Del Monte,
Dole, and Fyffes have somewhat of a monopoly over the banana plantation business, and their
plantations are centralized in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras. Many
producers in these countries are wealthy land owners that have tried to raise their prices by marketing
their bananas as fair trade or Rainforest Alliance certified (Wikipedia). The term banana republic has

Functions Of Governmental Public Relations
Governmental public relations have been inspired by Grunig s models of PR and, particularly, by the
concept of symmetrical communication between organizations and publics (Gregory, 2006; Fisher
Horsley, 2007), a concept which, with its relationships with the notion of excellence (Grunig Hunt,
1984; J.E. Grunig L. Grunig, 1992; Grunig, 2001), has constituted the major framework that has
guided public relations scholarship for the past 30 years (Botan Hazleton, 2006). Mutual benefit,
mutual understanding, win win mixed motivated communication, are concepts used to denominate
purposes of organizational public relations.
Whether governments can establish symmetrical relationships with their publics is an issue at stake;
Grunig in cooperation with Jaatinen (1999) acknowledges that his symmetrical model would have to
be adapted to the specific conditions of government communication. But the interest of this approach
is that, in centering the analysis on the establishment of relationships, the understanding of the public
is fundamentally altered; and hence altered is also the understanding (concept and functions) of
government public relations: under this approach government communication is conceived as the
cultivation of long term relationships oriented to mutual understanding rather than being modelled on
short term, vote winning approaches to communication.
If the establishment of long term relationships between an organization and its publics is to inspire the

NFL Draft Bust
Professional sports leagues like the NFL, the NBA, and the NHL seen some amazing athletes come
out of the draft, especially top 5 picks. However, not every pick can be perfect, so there are often draft
busts. However, there are none bigger than Ryan Leaf, Greg Oden, and Rick DiPietro. Leaf, Oden, and
DiPietro are their respective sport s biggest draft bust, but who is the biggest draft bust of all time?
Ryan Leaf, a quarterback from Washington State, was the second overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft
by the San Diego Chargers. Leaf had a very promising three year college career. In his three years of
college, Leaf had a completion percentage of 53.8, 7,433 passing yards, and a 59:24 touchdown to
interception ratio. However, when he entered the NFL, his stats were completely altered in his three
year NFL career, and not in the good way. His completion percentage dropped to 48.4, compiling only
3,666 passing yards, and an awful 14:36 touchdown to interception ratio. Before he entered the NFL,
his passion for football was in question and retiring after three seasons, he proved that his passion for
the sport was never there. Taken after Leaf are multiple soon to be Hall of Famers, such as, Charles ...

unnatural Exposure Essay
For part of my independent study I read the book Unnatural Exposure, by Patricia Cornwell. The book
is a murder mystery with a large focus on the forensic aspects of the investigation. The main character
in the book is Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner form Virginia. She is recently divorced and live
in an apartment by herself. She could be described as a workaholic since she spends all of her time
thinking and working on her cases. She is always the first person to arrive at the morgue and the last to
leave.
As the book begins, Dr. Scarpetta is called to a crime scene at a garbage dump in Virginia. When she
gets there she soon realizes that it must be a horrific scene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

but he was never on line long enough to track him down. This became very frustrating for Kay and
she tried to move on to other cases.
The next scene Dr. Kay Scarpetta was called to was on a remote island right off the shores of Virginia.
When she arrived at the scene she was told that it was a woman and she was found dead in her bead.
The local cops also warned the doctor that the dead woman had bumps and welts all over her body.
Thinking nothing of this information Kay walked up the stairs into the bedroom and began to
investigate the scene. When she pulled back the sheets she was shocked. Dr. Scarpetta was looking at
the woman and started feeling extremely uneasy. She had seen these types of bumps and wounds
before. They looked like some sort of smallpox disease. As soon as she made the connection to this
highly infectious disease Kay ran out of the room. The whole Island had to be quarantined and Dr.
Scarpetta was put into solitary confinement until they were sure she was not infected.
After she got out of confinement she realized that she had seen some similar bumps on the torso she
had been examining earlier. The two crimes were now

this time. There were no warm touches or cute giggles distracting her from all the waiting. All she was
left with was a makeup artist with a face too smug and unfriendly touches as she played with the soft
features of Taeyeon s skin, dabbing on the foundation a bit too roughly. She was left alone with two
other loud members in the dressing room, taking selcas of themselves, probably to be posted online.
Taeyeon resisted the urge to roll her eyes, not wanting to ruin her eye makeup. If Tiffany was here, she
would probably be taking selcas too, she thought. Tiffany is always taking selcas. Either using her

Example Of Artificial Sweeteners
Final Draft
Sweeteners come in different forms. There are natural sweeteners and artificial sweeteners
Do we understand what we consume?
Is our reliance on sweeteners detrimental to our society?
We created artificial sweeteners to cope with our addiction to sugar. One of the appeals of artificial
sweeteners is that it comes with less calories than sugar and that it does not cause your insulin levels
to spike.
We should cut down our sugar intake in America. We should start small by starting locally in our
communities. Shopping from a farmer s markets
According to heart.org, Sugars in your diet can be naturally occurring or added. Naturally occurring
sugars are found naturally in foods such as fruit (fructose) and milk (lactose). Added sugars are sugars
and syrups put in foods during preparation or processing, or added at the table. Too much added sugar
may cause your liver to reject insulin. Insulin is an important hormone that helps turn glucose(sugar)
in your bloodstream into energy. If your body can t control your blood sugar levels, it can lead to type
2 diabetes. Although research has overconsumption of sugar is bad for your health, artificial
sweeteners should not be considered as a safer alternative.
Artificial Sweeteners tend to help avoid the problem rather than fix it. Diet sodas are an example of
this. People would drink a Diet Coke or a Coke Zero thinking that it is healthier than a regular Coke.
Diet Coke gives off a connotation that it is better for your body

The Importance Of Literacy Pedagogies
Literacy pedagogies have a developing and complex history in education, intertwined with social and
cultural change and evolution. Each change has paved a new path for more significant approaches and
strategies, which cater to diverse learners allowing them to create meaning and communicate more
effectively. These literacy pedagogies brought out by the changes in education have both strengths and
weaknesses. As such, educators need to explore and understand the four knowledge processes
portrayed by Kalantzis, Cope, Chan and Dalley Trim; didactic, authentic, functional, and critical
literacy approach (2016), to be able to consider how they can influence teaching and learning so they
are able to make informed decisions with regards to their students literacy learning. Teaching is
becoming increasingly complex; this is particularly evident in the area of literacy. This paper will
explore the four literacy pedagogies, their limitations and their strengths, and how they have impacted
literacy learning within the Australian educational context.
During the 19th century, didactic literacy pedagogy was the first pedagogy to become prominent
subsequent to the mass obligatory, institutionalised education (Kalantzis et al., 2016, p.84). This
approach was widely seen during the Victorian era where education was seen to be teacher centered;
according to Watkins (1999), this approach can also be seen in Australian education during the 1970s
and 1980s. During this time this pedagogy was

Summary Of David Crystal Or Not 2b
In the article 2b or Not 2b by David Crystal, he explains why he thinks texting will not destroy
language. He infers that texting adds a new facet to communication. Crystal starts by establishing an
opposing argument in the introduction when he mentions John Humphrys I h8 txt msgs: How texting
is wrecking our language (335). One can deduce from the title of the article and Humphrys description
of texters as vandals who are doing to our language what Genghis Khan did to his neighbors 800 years
ago. (335) that Humphrys does not support texting. Crystal goes on to mention John Sutherland,
another man who describes texting as bleak, bald, sad shorthand. Drab shrinktalk ... Linguistically it s

Texting has grown exponentially since then, but texting does not necessarily hinder literacy. Crystal
argues, Although many texters enjoy breaking linguistic rules, they also know they need to be
understood, (337). When the messages are longer, more abbreviations tend to be used. He references a
study that has proven that the number of abbreviations in a text message has resulted in higher scores
on reading and vocabulary tests. According to Crystal, you have to know how letters relate to sounds

Background And Motivation On Online Social Networks
Background and Motivation:
Another form of attack on online social networks is the Social Link Disclosure based attacks, in which
the goal of an attacker is to obtain knowledge of a significant fraction of the links in the network. The
value of participating in an online social network for a user lies majorly in the ability to leverage the
structure of the social network graph. But, knowledge of this social graph by parties other than the
service provider paves the way for powerful data mining, some of which may not be desirable to the
users. The ability to conduct these analyses on social networks is becoming increasingly important in
the data mining, database and theoretical computer science communities [4.32]. Since nodes in social

compare the two solutions and conclude on the pros and cons of both.
Results:
Social Link Disclosure based Attack: Links refer to the connections between vertices in a network. In
the context of online social networks, links are the connections between users of the network. But not
all information related to these connections are suitable to be disclosed to the public.
Goal of the Attack: Social link disclosure based attacks aim at disclosing such sensitive information
related to the links of the social network, and thereby discover the link structure of the network.
Although online social networks are a new domain with a not so large research information base ,
knowledge regarding the structure of the network enables the attacker to analyze the network using the
powerful graph mining algorithms that have existed for centuries and have an extremely rich research
information base.
There are several approaches to deal with this problem. In this survey, we consider two approaches to

Individuality Vs. Conformity In The Shining Houses By...
Individuality and conformity is a battle between being a leader and being a follower, finding out who
you are and your desires to be accepted by others. In Alice Munro s short story The Shining Houses
and Wallace Stevens poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock , both the author and the poet shows how
being an individual is more valuable than being one of those conformed copies .
Is it better to stand out and compromise your values or is it better to stay comfortable in the crowd and
give into peer pressure? Often in our society we are forced to act in a certain way in order to be
considered normal and fit into a group, that is why a lot of people eventually conform. People conform

Jeff Latour Analysis
Latour s text left me preoccupied with ongoing questions about the human. Latour clearly shows an
awareness to these concerns. He names ethical and political stakes for the most vulnerable human and
nonhuman in the nonmodern constitution of the democracy of things: [t]he destiny of the starving
multitudes and the fate of our poor planet are connected by the same Gordian knot that no Alexander
will ever again manage to sever (50). The concern with vulnerable ecological and social networks puts
Latour in range of Jeff Stout s observation about the social stratification of environmental injury: rain
falls on the just and the unjust, but hurricanes mainly devastate the already destitute (Stout, 2010). (On
this note, we should also think about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting at this concern, Latour asserts again the promise of the nonmodern constitution in terms of the
problems of modern temporality: The past [in the modern constitution] was the confusion of things
and men; the future is what will no longer confuse them (71). I take Latour to be criticizing the
modern constitution s location of the (more realized) human in the future. It s not yet clear, however,
how attending to mediation and purification changes things. How might quasi subject and quasi object
status be less susceptible to modern structures of violence? Latour addresses these concerns most
constructively in the conclusion in terms of redistribution. He writes that in order to amend the
constitution, we need not to affirm the death of man, but simply relocate the human. Which is to say,
the human can no longer be defined in terms of essences, by its contrast to the nonhuman, or
according to the modern temporality of progress. Instead, the human must be understood as a delegate
within various networks, a worker of mediation, a weaver of morphisms (137). The human is not
altogether formless, but cannot be understood in isolation from nonhuman collectives. On these terms,
to understand Katrina or the situation in Flint, one needs to draw lines of connection between the
social life of the environment and the ecological distribution of the humans. The injustices of these
situations, for Latour, cohere within the failure of human and nonhuman networks. In any case, this
text is suggestive for further questions about the relation between trans and posthumanist discourse
and critical theories of the human (e.g., race, gender, sexuality,

The Revolutionary War By David Mccullough Essay
1776 written by David McCullough was a very accurate portrayal of the the revolutionary war. The
author chose to write the events with mostly a non biased perspective and was able to use multiple
sources from the time. This allowed the author to write the book in an interesting way and inform the
reader of this vital time in the nation s history. The book focuses on the life and struggles of George
Washington as he progresses through life and the war. It was helpful that the author showed his
perspective and thoughts as he grew to become the leader many people think him as today. It is stated
that George washington was not a very strong leader when he took control on July third, but it was his
perseverance and unrelenting determination that ultimately won the war. Also, The author chose to
give insight into the other important leaders who influenced how the war progressed through the year.
This was not only accomplished by direct quotes but the author also explained why some decisions
were made on both sides made the events less complicated. The fact that the author chose to focus of
Washington and the troops lives also made it more personal and it helped that the narrative did not
jump around to give an overview of the war from all perspectives.
The first character that was introduced in the book was George III, King of England. He arrives in his
colossal golden chariot pulled by eight magnificent cream colored horses which signified the power
and wealth of england at

Theodor Adorno And The Culture Industry
INTRODUCTION Theodor Adorno and Max Horkheimer are the social Thinkers behind the term
Culture Industry. The ideology was introduced to describe how the capitalist society functioned, in
making everything standard, i.e. standardised products for standardised people. Adorno and
Horkheimer argues that there s a link between culture industry and capitalism. They believe the
products are meant for more than just a profit but also creates people who adapts to the system of the
capitalists (Adorno Horkheimer 1944:31). In the essay I will discuss if whether we are robots or not.
The agency of individuals is the framework of mass media and give a contemporary example of how it
is represented in mass media employing reification, alienation, and instrumental reason. I will also
refer to Althusser s formulation of ideology and how it impacts on the individuals and also refer to
Fredric Jameson s Reification and Utopia to further construct my argument. BODY Are we are robots?

  • 2. Foreshadowing In The Awakening Karissa Sirois Mrs. Schroeder AP Literature and Composition 29 December, 2017 The Awakening 1988 Prompt There are many literary works that have mental or psychological events. This revelation or discovery almost always plays as the climactic peak in each piece of literature. Author s create such climaxes through foreshadowing, suspense and progressive building up to the point of intellectual or emotional discovery. In Chopin s The Awakening Edna Pontellier, the main protagonist, experiences an awakening that is extremely climactic for the reader s. Edna s awakening is emotional, sexual and intellectual because she discovers her internal desire for independence, the consequence of freedom and the realization that it is unattainable. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edna s sexual awakening is one of the first things addressed in the first chapter when she chooses not to wear her wedding rings on the beach. She spends most of her time with the notoriously flirtatious Robert, not with her children or husband. From her interactions with Robert and her more reserved habits, compared to most Creoles, reader s are able to infer the growth of their relationship and a possible affair in the future. After her vacation back in New Orleans as Edna s emotional awakening develops, but not as obviously as her sexual awakening. The first direct implication of an affair comes when Leonce goes to Doctor Mandelet. In chapter XXIII the Doctor goes to have dinner with Edna, simply to observe in person the strange behavior Leonce described to him, but when he meets her she seems perfectly fine. One thing the Doctor does notice is her behavior with Alcee. Chopin notes the Doctor happier in his selection, when he told the old, ever new and curious story of the waning of a woman s love, seeking strange, new channels, only to return to its legitimate source after days of fierce unrest. (Chapter XXIII). This is the first direct implication of a possible affair approaching in Edna s future, and the Doctor is one of the only people to notice her growing sexual awakening. Once Alcee further perseus Edna and kisses her it is described as the first kiss of her life to which her nature had really responded. It was a flaming torch that kindled desire. (Chapter XXVII) completing her sexual awakening and heightening her emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of A Grain Of Wheat Thus, Ngugi resort to use mythological figures in order unite and liberate the Kenyans, also he uses such figures to fossilize the Mau Mau in Kenyan s mind and to feel proud of their revolution. Neatly, Ngugi enlists and compares Mau Mau members to Prometheus (who defied to steal the fire from other gods to pave the liberation s way). No wonder Ngugi considers Mau Mau fighters as symbols of resistance because they suffered for getting freedom and liberation. (Ngugi. Detained1981: 111) The myth is directly linked to the Kikuyu legend of Gikuyu and Mumbi, the founding ancestors of the Kikuyu community. The story tells that Gikuyu, the founder of the tribe and Munkuyu, also called Marugu created Gikuyu and Mumbi under the big tree, situated in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He exhibits a great deal of struggle for independence and sacrifice to the domestic and socio political issues in the novel. One of such women is Wambui: ...she carried secrets from the villages to the forest and back to the villages and towns (A Grain of Wheat , p.23). The narrator also recounts the exploits of the old woman at the battle field where ... she once carried a pistol tied to her thighs near the groin ... (A Grain of Wheat, pp.23 24). These exploits of the woman do not only project her as powerful but they also create the opportunity for us to recognise the crucial roles women play during the colonial period when men were denouncing their oaths of secrecy to follow the white man ... • 4. Beauty In America Research Paper Just because the definition of beauty in America is to be like a Barbie: tall, slender, and gorgeous, does not mean that is the same definition in other countries. To be called beautiful in Thailand, one must have light, fair skin to be labeled as an attractive individual. Instead of spending money on tanning products like Americans do, Thais spend money on products that have whitening agents in them such as lemon juice (Magnesi). In Japan, a person who is considered beautiful has a clear, smooth complexion and stick straight hair (Magnesi). Japanese women that have wavy, or curly hair that straight haired Americans long for, straighten their hair by whatever means necessary (Magnesi). Africa s definition of beauty is the exact opposite of America s. Instead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout history, the way one defined beauty has changed. In the renaissance, women that were curvy, and fleshy were considered to be the most attractive. Paintings from the renaissance show women that would now be considered overweight in our time, but at that time they were considered the epitome of sexy (CITE). Also, in the renaissance, women believed the lighter the hair, the better. They strived for a pale face, and deep red lips (CITE). However, the women of the Victorian era were much different than the renaissance women. They were very conscious about their bodies, and beauty meant having the smallest waistline humanly possible (CITE). To achieve this small waistline, women wore corsets. Their corsets were so tight that women could barely breathe, and sitting down was out of the question (Cite). As for makeup in the Victorian era, only high class women were expected to wear makeup sparingly. Bold colors were considered to be uncouth, and reserved for prostitutes (cite). In the 1920 s instead of tight corsets to show off their curves, women wore loose dresses, and some even bound their chests with a cloth to achieve a boyish look (cite). Going ... • 5. Kindness And Generosity In The Film Cinderella On September 11, 2001 several men associated with the Islamic extremist group al Qaeda hijacked four American planes and navigated them into the world trade center, the pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. The attack immediately impacted the entire United States as virtually everyone in the world mourned the deaths of the thousands killed from this act of pure malice. However, a small tribe in South Kenya, isolated from modern technologies, was informed about this attack around seven or eight months after they actually occurred. After this tribe heard about the news, not only did they mourn for the lost Americans, the entire tribe held a solemn meeting and decided they would send their most precious possession sixteen cows to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme of the Little Golden Book Cinderella is very similar to the theme represented in the film, Cinderella. The central theme in the film is that courage and kindness can help overcome the evils and struggles faced in life. The kindness element in both of these stories is similar as explained before. The kindness of Cinderella is displayed specifically in the Little Golden Book version because Cinderella was described as the author as being kind to everyone even Lucifer (4). Lucifer was the dark black cat who was very selfish and would exploit Cinderella because of her graciousness. The careful illustration and depiction of Lucifer was also very significant. The illustrator decided to make the cat a dark black color because it is an archetype that represents evil. The representation expressed through the illustration directly overlaps with the description of the character which means that it is very powerful for Cinderella to have the power to show kindness to the cat. Cinderella also displays hospitality and generosity towards her Stepmother and Stepsisters in both of these versions. The Stepmother is depicted in both of these stories as torturing and severely lacerating Cinderella. However, Cinderella still finds a way to remain kind and overcome the anguish and hardships that she faces. She also portrays these traits in the Grimm Brother s version of Cinderella . I feel this articles main contributions come from the fact that it offers three possible hypotheses for female juvenile delinquency. The first hypothesis is the exposure hypothesis, which argues that females are less likely to be exposed to risk factors and more likely to be protected, making them less likely to become juvenile delinquents. The second hypothesis is the vulnerability hypothesis which basically states that males and females hold different degrees of receptiveness in regards to risk factors. ... Exes Romoff Analysis In the slam poem Exes Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda speak to an issue inherent in many relationships: how can a committed devotion to love provoke such an enslaving and abusive relationship? Romoff and Cuda use extended metaphors, juxtaposition, and appealing to extremes to evoke an apprehensive atmosphere that shifts to an accusatory tone. At the beginning, the speakers use dialogue to create this apprehensive tone with the pleading conversation between the girl and her boyfriend. The speaker uses the line, IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME I LL KILL MYSELF to exemplify how the boyfriend is appealing to the extremes. The pulmonary circuit does two things: bring blood without oxygen (oxygen depleted) to the lungs and blood with oxygen (oxygen rich) back to the heart. Blood flows out of the right side of the heart to the pulmonary arteries to the lungs. This oxygen depleted blood then becomes oxygen rich in the lungs and releases carbon dioxide. This oxygen rich blood then flows back to the right side of the heart to be used in the systemic circuit. The systemic circuit also does two things: brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body besides the lungs and oxygen depleted blood to the heart. Blood flows out of the left side of the heart to the aorta. Aorta is the name of the artery which brings oxygen rich blood to the entire body. This blood is then transported from the aorta to connecting arteries and capillaries. Trinity To Nazienzus Essay The Trinity to Nazienzus is absolutely essential in his Five Theological Orations, and in them he defines the Father is the Begetter and the Emitter; without passion of course, and without reference to time, and not in a corporeal manner. This means that though numerically distinct there is no severance of Essence. Christ is not subordinate to the Father, and the Holy Ghost is not subordinate to the Father or the Son; the Godhead is Triune in unity and is of the same substance. Even though the Holy Spirit and the Son are from [the Father], though not after Him, they still share the same essence as Him in the Trinity. This is an important distinction, because any part of the Godhead that has not existed for all time would not be God by definition. He goes so far to say that the notion of Two Sons, one of God the Father, the other of the mother warrants the loss of adoption into God s Kingdom. God and man have two distinct natures, just as the body and the soul are two distinct natures, but there are not two sons or two gods in the person of Jesus. This is valid because it adheres to scripture, and because the alternative is heresy. There are plentiful examples of the divinity of God, one being John 8:58, where Jesus proclaims to the dismay of the Pharisees before Abraham was, I am, which caused them to try and stone Him for what they considered blasphemy. His humanity can be seen in Matthew 4:2 where He hungered after fasting for 40 days and nights, and in Mark 15:37 where the human person of Jesus died on the cross, even though his deity descended to Sheol. Everyone is dressed in costumes, drinking the night away. Fortunato has somehow insulted Montresor and he is seeking revenge. Montresor plays off of Fortunato s weakness, wine. Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. Functions Of Governmental Public Relations Governmental public relations have been inspired by Grunig s models of PR and, particularly, by the concept of symmetrical communication between organizations and publics (Gregory, 2006; Fisher Horsley, 2007), a concept which, with its relationships with the notion of excellence (Grunig Hunt, 1984; J.E. Grunig L. Grunig, 1992; Grunig, 2001), has constituted the major framework that has guided public relations scholarship for the past 30 years (Botan Hazleton, 2006). Mutual benefit, mutual understanding, win win mixed motivated communication, are concepts used to denominate purposes of organizational public relations. Whether governments can establish symmetrical relationships with their publics is an issue at stake; Grunig in cooperation with Jaatinen (1999) acknowledges that his symmetrical model would have to be adapted to the specific conditions of government communication. But the interest of this approach is that, in centering the analysis on the establishment of relationships, the understanding of the public is fundamentally altered; and hence altered is also the understanding (concept and functions) of government public relations: under this approach government communication is conceived as the cultivation of long term relationships oriented to mutual understanding rather than being modelled on short term, vote winning approaches to communication. Each change has paved a new path for more significant approaches and strategies, which cater to diverse learners allowing them to create meaning and communicate more effectively. These literacy pedagogies brought out by the changes in education have both strengths and weaknesses. As such, educators need to explore and understand the four knowledge processes portrayed by Kalantzis, Cope, Chan and Dalley Trim; didactic, authentic, functional, and critical literacy approach (2016), to be able to consider how they can influence teaching and learning so they are able to make informed decisions with regards to their students literacy learning. Teaching is becoming increasingly complex; this is particularly evident in the area of literacy. This paper will explore the four literacy pedagogies, their limitations and their strengths, and how they have impacted literacy learning within the Australian educational context. During the 19th century, didactic literacy pedagogy was the first pedagogy to become prominent subsequent to the mass obligatory, institutionalised education (Kalantzis et al., 2016, p.84). This approach was widely seen during the Victorian era where education was seen to be teacher centered; according to Watkins (1999), this approach can also be seen in Australian education during the 1970s and 1980s. During this time this pedagogy was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Background And Motivation On Online Social Networks Background and Motivation: Another form of attack on online social networks is the Social Link Disclosure based attacks, in which the goal of an attacker is to obtain knowledge of a significant fraction of the links in the network. The value of participating in an online social network for a user lies majorly in the ability to leverage the structure of the social network graph. But, knowledge of this social graph by parties other than the service provider paves the way for powerful data mining, some of which may not be desirable to the users. The ability to conduct these analyses on social networks is becoming increasingly important in the data mining, database and theoretical computer science communities [4.32]. Since nodes in social ... To compare the two solutions and conclude on the pros and cons of both. Results: Social Link Disclosure based Attack: Links refer to the connections between vertices in a network. In the context of online social networks, links are the connections between users of the network. But not all information related to these connections are suitable to be disclosed to the public. Goal of the Attack: Social link disclosure based attacks aim at disclosing such sensitive information related to the links of the social network, and thereby discover the link structure of the network. Although online social networks are a new domain with a not so large research information base , knowledge regarding the structure of the network enables the attacker to analyze the network using the powerful graph mining algorithms that have existed for centuries and have an extremely rich research information base. There are several approaches to deal with this problem. In this survey, we consider two approaches to Privacy Preserving Link Analysis. • 35. Individuality Vs. Conformity In The Shining Houses By... Individuality and conformity is a battle between being a leader and being a follower, finding out who you are and your desires to be accepted by others. In Alice Munro s short story The Shining Houses and Wallace Stevens poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock , both the author and the poet shows how being an individual is more valuable than being one of those conformed copies . Is it better to stand out and compromise your values or is it better to stay comfortable in the crowd and give into peer pressure? Often in our society we are forced to act in a certain way in order to be considered normal and fit into a group, that is why a lot of people eventually conform. The whiteness of these night gowns represents lack of imagination and everybody were close minded. The old sailor were the only one in the poem who dares to dream and be different from those white night gowns copies: Only, here and there, an old sailor,/ Drunk and asleep in his bootss/ Catches Tigers/ In red weather. • 36. Jeff Latour Analysis Latour s text left me preoccupied with ongoing questions about the human. Latour clearly shows an awareness to these concerns. He names ethical and political stakes for the most vulnerable human and nonhuman in the nonmodern constitution of the democracy of things: [t]he destiny of the starving multitudes and the fate of our poor planet are connected by the same Gordian knot that no Alexander will ever again manage to sever (50). The concern with vulnerable ecological and social networks puts Latour in range of Jeff Stout s observation about the social stratification of environmental injury: rain falls on the just and the unjust, but hurricanes mainly devastate the already destitute (Stout, 2010). (On this note, we should also think about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Getting at this concern, Latour asserts again the promise of the nonmodern constitution in terms of the problems of modern temporality: The past [in the modern constitution] was the confusion of things and men; the future is what will no longer confuse them (71). I take Latour to be criticizing the modern constitution s location of the (more realized) human in the future. It s not yet clear, however, how attending to mediation and purification changes things. How might quasi subject and quasi object status be less susceptible to modern structures of violence? Latour addresses these concerns most constructively in the conclusion in terms of redistribution. He writes that in order to amend the constitution, we need not to affirm the death of man, but simply relocate the human. Which is to say, the human can no longer be defined in terms of essences, by its contrast to the nonhuman, or according to the modern temporality of progress. Instead, the human must be understood as a delegate within various networks, a worker of mediation, a weaver of morphisms (137). The human is not altogether formless, but cannot be understood in isolation from nonhuman collectives. On these terms, to understand Katrina or the situation in Flint, one needs to draw lines of connection between the social life of the environment and the ecological distribution of the humans. The injustices of these situations, for Latour, cohere within the failure of human and nonhuman networks. In any case, this text is suggestive for further questions about the relation between trans and posthumanist discourse and critical theories of the human (e.g., race, gender, sexuality, ... • 38. The Revolutionary War By David Mccullough Essay 1776 written by David McCullough was a very accurate portrayal of the the revolutionary war. The author chose to write the events with mostly a non biased perspective and was able to use multiple sources from the time. This allowed the author to write the book in an interesting way and inform the reader of this vital time in the nation s history. The book focuses on the life and struggles of George Washington as he progresses through life and the war. It was helpful that the author showed his perspective and thoughts as he grew to become the leader many people think him as today. It is stated that George washington was not a very strong leader when he took control on July third, but it was his perseverance and unrelenting determination that ultimately won the war. Also, The author chose to give insight into the other important leaders who influenced how the war progressed through the year. This was not only accomplished by direct quotes but the author also explained why some decisions were made on both sides made the events less complicated. The fact that the author chose to focus of Washington and the troops lives also made it more personal and it helped that the narrative did not jump around to give an overview of the war from all perspectives. The first character that was introduced in the book was George III, King of England.
