The Great War As Total War
The Great War as Total War
Week 1 Assignment
By: John Moore
When World War I was initially called The Great War by the people of those times, great did not
mean good. Great was the word used to show the magnitude of the war. The war was massive. It
was gigantic in terms of the impact it had on literally the entire world. Only later in time would the
event become known as World War I
.
Tensions between countries had been building across Europe. Many people thought war was
inevitable. There was propaganda all over European countries that helped to instigate the rise of
tensions. Some nations were just looking for a reason to attack other countries. People were
happy when the war first began. It was predicted to be a quick war. Things did not go according to
plan as the war lasted five years. When peace was finally reached in November of 1918, the war
had gone on a lot longer than originally anticipated.
There are many reasons why it was so absorbing and could be classified as a total war . Countries
and nations all across the world would become involved before it end. There were countries fighting
from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Thirty five nations in all would send troops to
fight. No other war before this time had involved this many different continents.
Another reason why it was total war was that millions of men and women died fighting for their
country. More lives were lost than all of the previous wars combined. Estimates show that around 10

Analysis Of Ethical Decision And Scandal
Analysis of ethical reaction to scandal Introduction The reputation of an organization is crucial.
Therefore, being a leader of an organization has to be able to react efficiently and effectively
when there is a threat to organization s reputation. Occasionally, a leader has to face a dilemma,
whereby one has to decide how to deal with the scandals in the organizations. On one hand, some
organizations treat their customers as a mean to gather the profits. On the other hand, other
organizations regard their customers as an end, whereby the organizations really consider about
customers interests as an ultimate goal of their services. Nonetheless, only the companies that
mad the ethical actions survived. Lacking a focus on the welfare of their customers, some
propaganda techniques, aiming to cover up the scandals, usually don t work well. Instead,
successful public relationship management techniques generally treat their customers welfare as
an end not just a mean. For example, a successful crisis management usually contains the honesty
and quick reaction. Enron Corporation is a great example to illustrate how damaging it is if
company leaders try to hide up the scandals and lie to the public. From Kant s perspective,
customers, who are human beings objected to the service provided by organizations, should be
treated with dignity, as every rational being exists as an end in himself and not merely as a means
to be arbitrarily used by this or that will (Kant 428). Indeed,

Lorelai Victoria Gilmore
Prenatal/Perinatal Development
It s a girl! Lorelai Victoria Gilmore was born on April 26, 1968 with no known birth defects to
Emily and Richard Gilmore. She got an APGAR rating of one for appearance, two for pulse, two
for grimace, a one for activity, and a two for respiration. Her mothers choose to breast feed her
because breast milk is almost always the best food (lecture slides). She used disposable diapers
because they are easier and Lorelai would just ruin the reusable ones anyway like she ruined her
pretty white dress with twelve petticoats when she spilled grape juice on it during her first birthday
pictures. She slept in a crib because it reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)
along with having nothing else in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She does not have any known genetic disorders that would affect her progress in school. Lorelai
has been acting differently lately; one day she refuses to go to school and Emily demands to
know why she does not want to go to school, pestering her until Lorelai spills that she is being
bullied at school by a peer so Emily speaks with the bully s parents and uses her connections to
the principle s wife to assure that Lorelai will be protected from the bully. She fails to address
Lorelais emotional needs though since bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts.
She also prompts the bully to transition from blatant sexual comments and gestures to using
relational aggression to isolate Lorelai and try to make her peers ignore her (Ludden, 2015). This
attempt is not very successful because, aside from the bully and his immediate clique, Lorelai s
wit and gregariousness makes her popular among her peers. Emily gets a call from the neighbor
that Lorelai threw a rock through their window so she politely tells the neighbor that she will pay
for the window and invites the neighbor to dinner that night where Lorelai is made to formally
apologize. Lorelai is

A Fluorescent Mirna Sensor For The Study Of Exrna And Drug...
A Fluorescent miRNA Sensor for the Study of exRNA and Drug Delivery
Abstract: Increasing evidence suggests cell to cell communication is possible through
extracellular RNAs (exRNAs). RNA (including mRNA, miRNA, or lincRNA) has, on many
accounts, been found packaged inside extracellular vesicles (EVs) which may traverse through a
variety of bodily fluids to be taken up by a recipient cell. The biological significance of exRNAs is
largely unknown. However, preliminary studies suggest they may play a role in a variety of
important biological processes, including stem cell maintenance, apoptosis, and cancer metastasis.
Furthermore, there is much hope in eventually utilizing EVs as a drug delivery vector to supply
damaged tissues with therapeutic RNAs. Such a system could overcome the immunological
challenges associated with viral vectors. Advances in understanding the biology of exRNA
transfer have been hindered by a lack of dynamic methods for detecting changes in RNA
concentration in vivo. Northern blotting, microarray, and PCR based approaches are invasive,
and sometimes lack sensitivity when dealing with small quantities of RNA. While evidence of
their significance is growing, to date no exRNA has been shown to enter and function in a cell in
vivo. To address these issues, I have been working on the development of a sensor system for
detecting exogenous small RNAs. This molecular sensor will exploit the ability of microRNAs
(miRNAs) to bind to, and repress, target

A Teacher Can Impact A Student s Life
Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope.
Hope breeds peace. In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a
student s life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good
equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which
may help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness,
encouraging students, and finding the right teachingmethods for each student are three of the many
characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of
strictness and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have
an appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their
students to understand students difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address,
phone number, and office hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However,
teachers need to keep the balance between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational
instructor needs to set up some rules for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor
may request students politely that they are not allowed to use their phone during the class because
it distracts them from paying attention to the class and subject. However, instructors should not be
hard for their students

Kneeling Protests
Get that son of a b off the field right now. Out. He s fired. He s fired! Is what Trump said he
would say if he was the coach of one of the football teams that had players that kneeled during the
national anthem instead of standing. The kneeling protests began when San Francisco 49ers
quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem on September 14, 2017, to
protest against police violence against African Americans. On September 24, 2017, many other
NFL players joined in on the protests because Donald Trumpdemanded that those who kneeled
during the national anthem were to be fired. The main reasons for these protests are because of the
racial inequality in our society and the deaths caused by police actions. These protests... Show more

We have drawn a false equivalency between military service and love of country without
recognizing that patriotism takes many forms and is far more complicated than a simple salute.
(Ashley Nicolas, a US veteran). People suspect that to be patriotic you have to do certain things
like stand for the national anthem at sporting events or say the pledge of allegiance at school. If
people see them not do those things then people will think that they hate our country or they are
being disrespectful to the military. But there is not just one way of showing your patriotism. Being
patriotic can be perceived differently by everyone. People should not believe in the
misapprehension that if you don t stand for the national anthem that you are being disrespectful
when it is for a different reason, like standing against racism. The concept of patriotism is a very
complex one. It s not as simple as reciting a pledge or singing an anthem. Patriotism, by simple
definition, is the exaltation of national eminence, typically expressed as power over other nations,
and an emotional attachment to the nation that one originates from. (Michael Cade Hughes). As it
says in this piece of evidence, patriotism is more than just standing for our national anthem. Being
patriotic can mean many different things to different individuals. People should see a new
perspective of what being patriotic means and not judge people for their

Analysis Of President Abbas s Adherence To The Power Of Power
The essence of this dissertation relies in arguing that one of the main factors of the PA s
adherence to security coordination despite its deviation from bilateral agreements in other regards
is Abbas s devotion to the power; capacities and benefits, which security coordination provides him
with. Using security coordination, Abbas established a monopoly over the use of force to cement
his leadership after he took over the reins from the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat
(Amrov and
Tartir, 2014). Moreover, as previously mentioned, Abbas s policy of crackdown on Islamists and
leftist in the West Bank is not only about maintaining law and order as the PA claims, but is about
keeping himself and the PA in power and preventing a repeat of... Show more content on

In a 2010 Maan News Agency poll, 78% of the respondents said that they believe that the PA
security forces are engaged in surveillance, monitoring activities, and intervening in people s
privacy under the name of security coordination (Tartir, 2017: 4). In 2013, the public opinion poll
conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center shows that after 20 years of signing
the Oslo Accords 55.4% of the Palestinians want to see security coordination terminated (Public
opinion word doc). However, the 2014 poll conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy
Studies shows that 80% of the Palestinians oppose security coordination and want it terminated
(Poll Arab).
This growing opposition was not formed out of the void, Palestinians have either been witnessing
their own security forces performing the job of the occupier and in a severer manner, or have seen
them stepping aside while the occupier conducts its operation in the territory that is supposed to be
under their jurisdiction (Clarno 2013, Tartir 2017, Sayigh 2011, Marten 2014). Security
coordination has transformed the Palestinian forces from defending their own people into asserting
domination over them. It has given them the leverage to do what Israel does starting from raids,
arrests, administrative detention, torture and ending with the

Food Labeling
Introduction There once was a time where words like light and low fat on food packages that
had no nutritional meaning. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying
products that were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels were also
confusing and hard to read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that.
In March 2001 the ANZFA defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as
low fat , reduced and lean to control how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant
to most of our dietary needs. This meaning that food labeling helps consumers to make the best
possible food choice. What is a food label? What is on a food label? A... Show more content on

If a product has a nutrition claim on it, it has to have a panel, which has to be laid out as
illustrated on the back of the pecan label. 8. Nutrient Claim There is a lot of legal claims on the

unsalted , no sugar , free recipes and natural . Conclusion With all the information that I have
collected about food labeling, all of them had negative thoughts about the legal standard terms. I
believe that the newly resolved problem with the food labeling standard terms need to get more
recognition because in the future consumers wont have to fight any more for information to help
them choose the foods they want and eat in a healthy diet. Food labels contain vital information, not

The Failure Of The Middle Of His Stories

The Failure to Cope
J.D. Salinger drops the reader into the middle of his stories. Without any sense of characters,
setting, or plot, the reader is thrown into the lives of others as they scramble to unearth the truth
behind the scenes. Salinger provides complex stories of relatable characters; some are stories of
happiness and others are of loss and dysfunction. Often times, the characters have difficulties
dealing with the harsh realities of their lives and have to look towards alternate means of coping.
Society fosters an overly structured environment with little room for atypical relationships, ideals,
and behaviors. Anything that is outside of the normal is immediately written off and labeled as
deviant behavior, something that is often frowned upon in this day and age. The characters in Nine
Stories by J.D. Salinger use various coping mechanisms to escape the reality that societal norms
and traditionalism present. Seymour Glass of A Perfect Day for Bananafish is a twisted character
who, having returned from the traumas of war, has a hard time fitting back into a routine of
normalcy. His partner, Muriel, is more interested in the material things that surround her than she is
with her lover. When Seymour cannot find the partnership that he needs with Muriel, he is forced
to switch to an alternate source of companionship. He meets a young girl named Sybil on the
beach, and quickly bonds with her.

Evaluating Mission Statement
Evaluating Mission Statements
Mission impossible! To some companies, creating a quality mission statement is almost an
impossible challenge. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the mission statements of Home
Depot and Nike. The evaluation starts with an explanation of criteria for a quality mission statement
; then assesses whether Home Depot and Nike meet such criteria. The assessment will show that the
mission statement of Nike is much more effective than that of Home Depot. Nike s mission
statement easily meets more quality criteria.
A quality mission statement for a company follows certain specific criteria. In the article entitled
Mission Statements, Olsen (2010) lists mission statement criteria as focusing on the satisfaction ...

In the scholarly article entitled The Relevance of Mission Statements: Analysing the Antecedents of
Perceived Message Quality and Its Relationship to Employee Mission Engagement, Desmidt (2016)
proclaims that high levels of mission comprehension ambiguity in mission statements cause a
detrimental impact on motivational power (pp. 898 899). The ambiguity and length of the mission
statement fails to meet the criteria for clarity. The sheer length of space taken in the previous
paragraph to cite the mission statement serves as evidence of its failure to meet criteria for
shortness, sharpness, and specificity. In the textbook Strategic Management for Organizations,
Abraham (2012) defines a mission statement as a concise statement and declares, It should not
contain statements of values, strategies, or objectives (although many companies make this error)
(p. 40). Home Depot is one of those many companies who made this error by openly incorporating
eight core values. Furthermore, the length and vagueness also make the mission statement quite
forgettable. The term broad is used to describe the company s selection of products, but can also
be used to describe its mission statement. In illustrating the criteria to be realistic, Kotler affirms,
The company should avoid making the mission too narrow or too broad (as cited in Olsen, 2010,

protecting your body or an Earthly possession. If you re curious about the dream meaning of

If a man was wearing high heels in a dream, most likely he would feel uncomfortable while trying

The Importance Of High School Student Athletes
Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic
courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students
who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to
do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea
that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost.
The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb
jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these
athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of
them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what
you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play
Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just
handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the
same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important
aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70
s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of
having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers,
rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only
hurts the students in the long run.
For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is
spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are
not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze
by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for
failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while
they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things.

The General Capabilities Of Joint Force
The general capabilities of joint force 2025 I believe necessary to rebalance the force based on the
current strategic direction, and global security environment is the global surveillance and strike
(GSS) network, increased naval and air investments and increased investment in cyber technology.
The GSS system would allow the U.S. militaryto strike quickly and remain engaged for increased
periods of time while additional forces are moved to the area of concern. Naval and air investments
are critical. The Navyand Air Force allows us to project power to areas of the world far from our
base of operations. Air power also enables us to provide support for ground forces and deterrence
and denial of enemy forces. Cyber investments are critical because cyber technology will
increasingly be the engine that runs our future military and allows us to attack adversary s cyber
networks and infrastructure.
The GSS network will be a vital piece for rebalancing the force in 2025. This network would
enable the joint force to better utilize capabilities of unmanned systems and automation, extended
range and low observable air operations, undersea warfare, and complex system engineering and
integration. The idea is to distribute the capability geographically to assist U.S. forces with a
quick strike capability anywhere in the world. The capability should have much less reliance on
bases and be less vulnerable to enemy air defense systems. All parts of the US military would

Analysis Of Miss Brill
Analysis of the Point of View in Miss Brill
Katherine Mansfield s short story, Miss Brill, is a well written story of an elderly, unmarried
woman in Europe. In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses stream of consciousness point of view
to show alienation and loneliness, appearances and reality, and Miss Brill s perceptions as she
attempts to make herself fit in with the park goers. Miss Brill is an older lady who makes a
living teaching English to school children and reading newspapers to an old invalid gentleman
(Wilson 2: 139). Her joy in life comes in her visits to the park on Sunday where she is notorious
for sitting in on other people s lives (Wilson 2: 140). It is there that her ritualistic, monotonous
journey that Miss Brill refers to as a play takes place.
From the beginning of the story, it becomes apparent that Miss Brill is the epitome of the
definition of lonely. She starves to have just a little warmth and companionship. In the story, she
has a fur necklet that she tenderly caresses as if it were a pet that she rubs the life into the little
dim eyes (Mansfield 175). Loneliness in Miss Brill is also shown through the music in the park.
The loneliness is shown through her perception of how the music is like someone playing with
only the family to listen (Mansfield 175). The whole time, Miss Brill thinks of herself as part of
this family playing the music, but in reality she is just an on site observer. On this particular
Sunday, it was the first day of the Season so the band seemed louder and gayer (Mansfield 175).
However, Miss Brill is somewhat disappointed that there are only two people near where she is
seated (Wilson 2: 136) Because they do not talk, her little world that she is rebuffed by that world
and her fantasy falls apart (Wilson 2: 140).
When the characters in the play are silent, Miss Brill imagines what they must be saying.
However, their silence makes eavesdropping on their lives quite difficult (Wilson 2: 145). She
also has a tendency to judge the characters, seeing them in ways that others in the garden likely
view her. For instance, she finds many of the older people in the garden odd, silent, nearly all old,
and from the way they stared they looked as though

Argumentative Essay On Why Women Wear Flops
The men who work in an office building wear nice dress pants, a nice shirt, and dress shoes. The
women on the other hand are expected to wear a dress, nice dress pants, a blouse, and sandals or

Everyone in Panama wears light clothes so they aren t constantly sweating. Due to the heat

He sets the scene in the morning, creating a feeling of calmness and peace, The beauty of the
morning; silent, bare. The noun beauty implies splendor and magnificence, showing the opposite
of what Blake writes about London . The adjective silent is also the opposite of what Blake writes in
London , How the youthful Harlot s curse . Wordsworth mentions the daffodils as people, When
all at once I saw a crowd. Similarly, he uses personification, crowd , to imply that everyone is
unified in nature. He uses color in his poem to indicate a deeper meaning, A host, of golden
daffodils. The adjective golden illustrates purity as well, therefore connecting it to innocence. The
noun host has a slight religious tone, which also relates to purity. The Daffodils has eight syllables
in each line. This makes the poem seem more complex than Spring .
In Spring , a lively tone is repeated throughout the poem, Merrily, merrily we welcome in the year.
The adverb merrily is repeated to highlight the positive tone of the poem and to make it last longer.
The pronoun we welcome in the year also shows us how everyone is unified in nature. Blake uses
colour to expand the meaning of the sentence, Come and

Light In The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby, includes many symbolic elements in his novel
that represent certain themes throughout the book. One of these themes is the struggle to achieve
one s dreams. Many characters in this novel each have their own American Dream, but something
gets in the way that prevents them from fulfilling their dreams. The theme of not achieving one s
dream is depicted throughout the novel by the green light, the Valley of Ashes, Gatsby s letter to
Daisy, the broken clock, and the fruit rinds and dead flowers. The green light is one of the most
important symbols in The Great Gatsby, since it portrays the novel s theme excellently. The reader

The Buddha Stands On The Crown Of The Head With A Round...
This Buddha has a bun shaped fleshy protuberance on the crown of the head with a round and
plump face, which has been severely weathered, leaving half of a halo behind the head.
However, a sense of solemn and compassionate can still be perceived from the downward gazing
eyes and the facial expression. The Buddha wears a full shoulder kasaya with compact and
specified drapery that forms into a U shape along the axis of the body. The left hand naturally
drops to hold a piece of the clothes yet the right forearm is fragmented. The Buddha stands on a
rising lotus throne which is set on a Sumeru throne. This artifact was excavated at Ruins of the
Ancient Andier City, which is a inner desert that locates 27 km southeast of Andier Ranch
(安迪尔牧场) in Minfeng County, Hetian Region, Xinjiang. Originally built in Han
dynasty, the city was gradually abandoned during 11th century AD, remaining to be an important
site of remnants of the south Silk Road (丝绸之路) of Han and Tang dynasties.
This artifact is severely damaged, leaving only part of the head and chest remain. The face of the
Buddha appears to be relatively round, using ink to draw the eyebrows and to emphasize the
already carved on eyelids. The upper eyelids are curvy while the lower ones are relatively flat.
With plump alae of the nose, small lips and dimples on the edge of the mouth, the figure is depicted
to be smiling. Although the neck is broken, the piece left in front of the chest indicates the

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
Gun Control will NOT reduce crime
The right to bear arms is guaranteed in the constitution by the Second Amendment. Liberals are
looking to amend the constitution any way they can. They want to ban handguns or at least restrict
sales. Studies have shown that gun control cannot stop people from committing the crime.
While the Founding Fathers of this country were developing the system of government, as set forth
in the Constitution, many feared that a standing army controlled by a strong central government
would leave them helpless. The federal Constitution contained no provisions to prohibit a standing
army or allow states to create their own militias. The Constitution was signed by thirty nine men

Firearms are the most deadly instruments of attack. State constitutions of forty three states
guarantee citizens the right to use weapons in self defense. Most states with this law believe that
every citizen has the right to bear arms in defense of himself or the state. A study by the National
Safety Council shows that accidental death by firearms is near the bottom of the scale among
causes of accidental death. Accidental deaths involving firearms has decreased from three thousand
in 1967 to eighteen hundred in 1986, and is still decreasing (Gottlieb 16).
Gun control would not really reduce the rate of violent crime. Firearms kill Sixty percent of all
murder victims in the United States. Firearms injure another seventy thousand per year. Medicare
paid out 14 billion dollars last year for injuries involving firearms (Lindermann 1). Professor
Donald B. Kates said that a study conducted by the University of Wisconsin said, Gun control laws
have no individual or collective effect in reducing the rate of violent crime. The study considered
economic, demographic, and racial variables. Congressman Bill Goodling says that the willful
criminal is the real cause of most violent crime, not the gun (Gottlieb 18).
If a handgun ban were issued, there would have to be citizens that would comply with such a law.

Parent Child Relationship in Greek Mythology Essay
It is inferred that the parents should take care of their children and have their best interest at heart.
This however, is not the case in Greek and Roman mythology. The killing of ones own children, or
filicide, was not viewed as negative upon in their era. The contemporary times contrast with the
ancient Greek and Roman s because it was justified to use any means necessary to obtain a higher
status. The Greeks and Romans valued keeping a high social reputation and having respect for
those of great power. The motherly union between their children conflict with the reality that the

Knowing that having the kingdom would make his name great throughout the nation, Pelias
struggled to keep it however way possible. This patriarchal love for control in turn leads to a
discord of the family, especially between the child and father. In contrast to the father, the mother
had a connection with their children, often leading to an overthrow of the husband. This
materialistic love is easily shown in the myth of Demeter and Persephone. The joy of Demeter s
eternal lifetime was her daughter, Persephone, whom she had borne to Zeus ( Rosenberg Demeter
94). After Persephone was taken away, Demeter became infuriated and even withdrew her life
sustaining powers,.. she broke the plows, killed oxen, and caused the earth to shrivel ( Rosenberg
Demeter 96). Seen from Demeter s reaction to the situation, the bond between mother and child was
very strong compared to that of the father. When Persephone returns, she takes comfort in her
mother rather than her father. Children usually took the mother s side and went against their father
s will. In the creation myth of the Greeks, there were two generations in which the mother wanted
to protect her children from the grasps of the father. Gaea was afraid of what Uranus would do to
their fearful children, and sought to protect them ( Rosenberg Creation 86). The wives of Cronus

surgeries a year as compared to 150 such eye surgeries done by an eye surgeon in the United

The Theory Of Innate Language Acquisition
A theorist who attempted to expand and explain Chomsky s original thoughts was Steven Pinker. In
the early nineties Pinker s debate of language acquisition became a popular notion due to the beliefs
within his book The Language Instinct (1994). The book describes the basic human instinct to learn
and acquire language as a means to communicate and understand situations. In a similar vein to
Chomsky he describes language as an instinct and not a skill that s dependant on acquisition. This
conceptsuggests that proof is merely the way that children can speak without formal rules being
explained and knowledge inessential in order to apply language, in a manner that would be
evolved through necessity dating back to hunter gatherer culture. The book suggests that a section
of the brain is specifically used to apply these skills and that it is an inbuilt commodity that we are
born with. However, no proof in within science has been found to agree or disagree with this idea.
A differing view that contrasts the Nativist theory of innate language acquisition is from the
theorists Sapir and Whorf. The two never wrote the hypothesis together, but due to similarities in
the thesis they are often cited together (Whorf was a student of Sapir). Their concept is based upon
an Empiricist approach in suggesting that language is acquired through circumstantial upbringing.

They found that women are worst at this, but are also better at selling the clothes again. One of
the causes are impulse buys, therefore, a remedy would be avoid sales, window shopping, outlet
visits or browsing the internet shops for ideas, when not having anything better to do. Instead,
prepare a shopping list in advance and stick to it, e.g. only buy the new trousers you actually
need. Another way to reduce impulse buys is; leave the debit cards at home when you are
shopping and bring cash instead, which may be harder to spend; the cost becomes real. In
addition, it is also easier to limit the amount you put in your pocket in advance. Some claim that

Cuban Embargo And The Embargo
Introduction
The Cuban Embargo is restricting Cuba as a whole from progressing and advancing their
technology. They face economic constriction through the embargo, which inhibits them from
trading with other countries, cutting off the availability to necessary resources like current medical
supplies. The U.S has continued to bully Cuba with the embargo. Even after 50 years, the United
States has taken limited action to end the embargo and has attempted to keep Cuba under foot. As
their own sovereign state, they have the obligation to make their own decisions as a country rather
than live under the blanket control of a nation living with a 50 year old temper tantrum demanding
nothing but democratization.
Analysis and Evaluation
In the first major article utilized for research, Relaxation of Cuban Embargo Urged in Congress ,
the main claim is that congressional action taken to limit the effects of the embargo and possibly
eliminate it entirely would only strengthen the grip that Fidel Castro, the former dictator of Cuba
has on his country. The article talks about congressional action being taken in the United States
congress, or the lack of action that is being taken, and the effect that it has on Cuban humanitarian
conditions. The tie into the medical field is quite broad but the focus it brings on the Cuban
embargo reveals significant problems. The lack of medical supplies and equipment in the country
due to the embargo is said to be deliberate. ...shortages of

Blood Donation around the World
The average adult has approximately five liters of blood coursing through the vessel and
delivering essential element. Without blood, the human body would stop working. Blood is fluid
of life and health for each individual body. Every single drop of blood contains millions of red
blood cells which functions as transporting oxygen to all parts of the body. If there are scarce, it
will disrupt bloodcirculation of the body gradually. This phenomenon usually arises during severe
blood injury. At this moment, blood transfusion is the best way to overcome this kind of case.
Thanks to an Arabic scholar, Ibn Al Nafis who discovered in 1260 AD on minor circulation of
blood in the body which then lead to idea of blood transfusion. (1) Nevertheless, the blood supply
is still on demand. According to statistics in America Red Cross, more than 41,000 blood
donations are needed every day for variety of purposes. (2) Maintaining blood supply remains
arduous till now. Hence, in order to attract people to donate blood, some arguments are evolved
whether payment or other reward should be done to increase the blood sources.(3) Therefore, the
outcome of this argument is a new type of blood donation is produced which known as paid blood
donation. This kind of donor contradicts to volunteer blood donor. Paid blood donor defines as a
person who receives incentives for their contribution of blood. Jay Pennington voices out that

The Building Blocks Of Successful Leadership Essay
4The building blocks of successful leadership pipeline
Despite the benefits listed above, leadership succession remains a cause of concern for a number
of organisations. DDI s Global Leadership Forecast from 2011 showed how only 38% of
participating leaders said the quality of leadership within their organisation is either very good or
excellent. More importantly, only 18% of HR professionals in the same survey felt the
organisations have a strong bench to respond to future needs. In order to make the most of the
leadership pipeline model, organisations must also focus on the following four elements.
A simple system with buy in from the senior leadership team
The focus should be on creating a clear and simple pipeline framework. The more complex the
program, the more it risks failing at some point. If the organisation is able to reduce the
bureaucracy required to run the system, then it ensures the system is based on clarity and
effectiveness. One way to remove complexity from the system is by narrowing its focus. The
processes used must be focused on the actual objectives and needs of the organisation. There s no
reason to add broadness by creating a far reaching process when there is no need for it. The scope
is at its best when it doesn t focus on every person within the organisation, but narrows the effort
down towards a few key players. Furthermore, it s important to ensure the system is flexible enough
to respond the changing needs within the organisation.

The Discovery Of Non Euclidean Geometry

Math 451: Axiomatic Geometry
Research Paper
12/13/16
History of Hyperbolic Geometry The discovery of non Euclidean geometry is credited to nineteenth
century mathematicians Carl Friedrich Gauss, Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky, and JГЎnos Bolyai
because they are first to recognize that the negation of Euclid s Fifth Postulate as an axiom
produced another geometry that was as rich and solid as that of Euclidean geometry (Venema,
2012). However, several concepts of Hyperbolic geometry were already known by that time, it just
was not labeled as Hyperbolic geometry (or non Euclidean geometry) because Hyperbolic geometry
was not yet discovered . Euclid s work was so distinguished that it was accepted as the standard
so people did not think it was possible for other geometries to exist. All in all, the discovery and
growth of Hyperbolic geometry first began with several mathematicians trying to prove that Euclid
s Fifth Postulate could be eliminated as an axiom.
Before the Recognition of Hyperbolic Geometry as a Geometry Geometry first originated as a way
to solve problems in architecture and navigation. A famous figure in geometry is Euclid. Around
300 BC, he published a book, The Elements, which contained definitions, axioms, and postulates
that would be regarded as a standard of mathematical reasoning for the next two thousand years
(Mueller, 1969). Euclid basically gave the foundation of what is now called Euclidean geometry.

some also have courts of criminal appeal, which are the highest appellate courts at the state level.
Courts known as district or county courts hear the more serious cases, with a judge presiding over
the court to interpret and determine the law. For more serious charges it is usual for a jury
(usually of 12 people) to determine the guilt or innocence of defendants. Serious offences such as
murder, rape and armed robbery are usually tried in a higher court.
Lesser offences are dealt with in lower courts, known as local or magistrates courts (or courts of
petty sessions), where magistrates determine the guilt or innocence of defendants.
In all cases, defendants are considered to be innocent until proven guilty beyond all reasonable

She was a powerful and dynamic character in a time when strong women were not depicted in
Greek culture. Medea was an unconventional woman in ancient Greek times, and it was
uncharacteristic for females in Athenian society to be a heroine and focal point.
Medea, the protagonist, was the daughter of Aeetes of Colchis, she was driven by passion and
committed horrendous crimes for the love of Jason. Euripides characters are a relatively flat
character, and they do not change dramatically throughout the play. The character Medea is
cynical, wicked, scheming and unlike any other heroine in ancient times, she blames Jason for her
predicament and seeks out revenge against everything that he loved. The opening act takes place
in the setting outside of Jason and Medea home in Corinth, Medea standing outside irradiates to
the Chorus how Jason victimized her and deserted the family. Like other plays in Greek history,
the play included The Chorus which was comprised of the women from Corinth; the there role was
to converse with Medea and evoke sympathy for her character.
The Nurse, Chorus, and Medea give a history of Medea and Jason s relationship, and the inciting

Homosexuality And Abortion In The United States
Throughout the history of America, from the 1800 to 2017. The Bible/Christianity has always
been used to address both sides of an issue on Gender. I choice Abortion and homosexuality
because it has been in the news for a while now since 1988. People have been debating on the issue
that women should not have an abortionbecause it is considered a crime, while using the Bible as a
reference. While others believe that women have the right to whether or not to have an abortion.
Also, using the Bible to give their reasons. Homosexualityis also a big issue in America history
because some people think that people who are homosexual have a right to marry their same
gender or whosoever they feel like because it is their rights to freedom and Liberty. While others
opposed homosexuality as an act of the devil referencing from the Bible that God did not put men
and women on earth to be homosexual, but to be heterosexual like Adam and Eve.
This is an issue addressing abortion. Some People have been protesting in favor of Abortion
since the 1984 to present day. Those who are in favor of abortion think is up to the pregnant
person, whether or not if they want to keep the pregnancies or abort it. Women are killing an

Encyclopedia Britannica, n.d. Web. 26 Oct. 2014.) The historical notion is greatly supported
because God Himself referred to the book of Jonah as historical (see Matthew 12:38 41, Luke 11:29
30, 32). On the parabolic side, there is a main argument against Jonah being historical. It is the
impossibility of Jonah surviving in the whale s stomach for three days and three nights (See Jonah
1:17). This argument has flaws. There are instances that display that a person could survive in this
environment (stranger occurrences have happened in our time). Plus, they were of brief periods of
time. On the other hand, multiple explanations have been stated as to how it could have happened
with little inconvenience for Jonah, but these cannot be stated with certainty. (Gaebelein, Jonah
Section) Since the whale incident is very generalized, personal interpretations should not come into
play. As a note, parabolic interpretations can be categorized as both personal interpretations and
spiritual interpretations that teach moral lessons. Jonah was not sent to preach monotheism or
higher ethics to Nineveh; but the purpose of Jonah s message was to bring Nineveh to repentance.

Education as a Social Institution
Education as a Social Institution
The social institution referred to as Education is comprised of the school system and it is in the
school system where knowledge and skills are developed along with cultural and social values and
norms. Additionally, through the school system culture and society continue and further those
social values and norms thus fulfilling a need prescribed by society. The purpose of this paper is to
examine how the theories of functionalism, conflict, and interactionism perceive the social
institution of education. As the functionalism theory states, each social institution exists in order to
fulfill a social need in addition without the social institution in question, social order would falter.

A student will not excel academically if they do not enjoy attending school in general, or attending
specific classes therefore, what are some causes for a student feeling this way. It is evident that the
interactions between the students and instructors play a large role in how the students feel about
classes and school in general. Two major factors come into play here and they are, the instructors
social and emotional support for students and the nature of [the instructors ] expectations for
students academic performance (Hallinan, 2008). This interaction between student and instructor is
of great value as it influences how a student perceives themself and their environment within the
school system. For example, students that perceive they are being overlooked or their capabilities
are being undervalued by the instructor will perform poorly. Conversely, when an instructor shows
the student some attention, and shows them they are capable and of value as a student, the student
will perform to the best of their ability. However, for either of these scenarios to persist the
instructor must be consistent with their interactions with the student. Moreover, if the instructor s
expectations and interactions are not consistent with regard to the student then the ability in
predicting the student s success in school or their feelings toward school becomes problematic. The
predictability of a student s feelings

Ray Bradbury s Marionettes, Inc.
Marionettes, Inc. by Ray Bradbury takes place in the year of 1989 when two men are conspiring
over the thought of having a robot stand in for them at home so that they can go out and do
things their wives would not approve of. The story starts out as two young men are walking
down a street and Smith asks Braling why after ten years of never going out would he want to
go back home at such an early hour, and Braling goes on to explain that he has a new robot that
looks, acts, and smells like him so he can trick his wife and this is just a trial run to see if his
wife notices that he is missing, he also adds that his wife has been controlling him for the last ten
years and he would like to get away and go on his dream vacation without her. At first Smith is
suspicious about the company and the morals they stand for so he questions his friend to find out
more about the company. Braling then goes on to explain that the company is called Marionettes
Inc. and that although they are not yet legalized by the government they have been secretly running
their business for two years and they will clone anyone who is willing to pay 8,000 to 15,000
thousand dollars. Throughout the night Braling tries to convince Smith... Show more content on

Nonviolent Direct Action In Martin Luther King s Letter...
In this life, many hope for peace, but not many try to achieve it. According to Martin Luther King
Jr s Letter from Birmingham Jail , there are many ways to achieve this, but the best possible course
of action would be through nonviolent direct action, which includes but is not limited to: peaceful
protest, sit ins and civil disobedience. In King s letter, he proclaims his reasoning behind
nonviolent direct action, including: the concept that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice
everywhere (par. 4), extremism can be used positively (par. 22), and the fact that oppressed
people will not stay oppressed forever (par. 24). King uses literary devices including ethos, logos,
and pathos to prove and reaffirm that which he is trying to convey. King begins to develop the
concept that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere , early on in his letter (the fourth
paragraph to be precise). He continues to make the concept clear by following up with: whatever
affects one directly affects all indirectly (par. 4).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Textual Analysis Of Love Jones
For the upcoming film festival, I believe centering the theme around black media from the 1990s
would be a great approach. With current black film reaching critical acclaim, Moonlight (Barry
Jenkins, 2016) and Get Out (Jordan Peele, 2017) to name a few, focusing on this national
cinema, especially during the rise of hip hop and rap music, provides an insight into black
culture. Focusing on the romantic comedy instead of drama or thriller not only expresses the need
for more consumable content for oppressed groups (in comparison to other white rom coms such
as When Harry Met Sally (Rob Reiner, 1989) a substantial amount of cultural and everyday facets
of life are missing) but presents black peopleas everyday people. The black romantic comedy s...

For most of the characters, the women have less than favorable endings in the scheme of a

situations each character finds themselves in. Two out of the four friends are in unconventional
relationships where they are the other woman, Vannah and Robin, the other two friends, Bernie
and Glo, are formerly married women looking for another lover. While only Glo and Bernie find
love by the end of the film, Vannah and Robin gain more respect for themselves and leave their
lovers. Like the other films, Waiting to Exhale contains pop culture references (such as vernacular
i.e. AAVE) and a R B soundtrack dominated by female vocalists. Rooted in feminism, Waiting to

Evaluating Strategies For Retaining Effective Teachers
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate strategies when retaining quality teachers, and human
resource personnel tend to run into problems of retaining effective teachers. These issues tend to be
identifying quality teachers. The quality of a teacher is often seen after the teacher is in the
classroom by reviewing students annual standardized test scores. Determining the quality of the
teacher has been viewed in parallel of their pre service training and university when recruiting. It has
been common to offer favorable incentives to recruit quality teachers and offer competitive benefits
to reduce the turnover rate. Large scale education policy studies focus on relationships between
easily classifiable teacher background ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mission to secure and retain an effective teacher can be costly. However, the price to identify
and retain these teachers have been in question to policymakers. Large scale education policy
studies focus on relationships between easily classifiable teacher background attributes and student
outcomes (Baker Cooper, 2015; Ballou Podgursky, 1995).
The role of the federal government expanded after The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and
heighten the pressure on schools to demonstrate student achievement (Smith, 2008), leaving
schools more accountable to education success. The NCLB act demanded high qualification
standards for teachers, but currently there is a shortage. Jacob (2007) describes the shortage as a
number of effective teachers the district wants to employ is greater than effective teachers willing
to work for given salary. Disadvantaged schools are unable to compete with higher salaries because
of their budget. This literature review will evaluate cost effective ways to retain effective teachers
in schools that lack resources.
Quality Teachers vs Effective Teachers.
School leaders need to be able to identify what they are looking for when recruiting and retaining.
Highly qualified teachers are measured by the competitiveness of their undergraduate institution,
by advanced degrees, by experience, and by scores of state licensure test (Clotfelter, Ladd, Vigdor,
2006). As stated in Title II program of the U.S.

  • 2. The Great War As Total War The Great War as Total War Week 1 Assignment By: John Moore When World War I was initially called The Great War by the people of those times, great did not mean good. Great was the word used to show the magnitude of the war. The war was massive. It was gigantic in terms of the impact it had on literally the entire world. Only later in time would the event become known as World War I . Tensions between countries had been building across Europe. Many people thought war was inevitable. There was propaganda all over European countries that helped to instigate the rise of tensions. Some nations were just looking for a reason to attack other countries. People were happy when the war first began. It was predicted to be a quick war. Things did not go according to plan as the war lasted five years. When peace was finally reached in November of 1918, the war had gone on a lot longer than originally anticipated. There are many reasons why it was so absorbing and could be classified as a total war . Countries and nations all across the world would become involved before it end. There were countries fighting from Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. Thirty five nations in all would send troops to fight. No other war before this time had involved this many different continents. Another reason why it was total war was that millions of men and women died fighting for their country. More lives were lost than all of the previous wars combined. Estimates show that around 10 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Ethical Decision And Scandal Analysis of ethical reaction to scandal Introduction The reputation of an organization is crucial. Therefore, being a leader of an organization has to be able to react efficiently and effectively when there is a threat to organization s reputation. Occasionally, a leader has to face a dilemma, whereby one has to decide how to deal with the scandals in the organizations. On one hand, some organizations treat their customers as a mean to gather the profits. On the other hand, other organizations regard their customers as an end, whereby the organizations really consider about customers interests as an ultimate goal of their services. Nonetheless, only the companies that mad the ethical actions survived. Lacking a focus on the welfare of their customers, some propaganda techniques, aiming to cover up the scandals, usually don t work well. Instead, successful public relationship management techniques generally treat their customers welfare as an end not just a mean. For example, a successful crisis management usually contains the honesty and quick reaction. Enron Corporation is a great example to illustrate how damaging it is if company leaders try to hide up the scandals and lie to the public. From Kant s perspective, customers, who are human beings objected to the service provided by organizations, should be treated with dignity, as every rational being exists as an end in himself and not merely as a means to be arbitrarily used by this or that will (Kant 428). • 4. Lorelai Victoria Gilmore Prenatal/Perinatal Development It s a girl! Lorelai Victoria Gilmore was born on April 26, 1968 with no known birth defects to Emily and Richard Gilmore. She got an APGAR rating of one for appearance, two for pulse, two for grimace, a one for activity, and a two for respiration. Her mothers choose to breast feed her because breast milk is almost always the best food (lecture slides). She used disposable diapers because they are easier and Lorelai would just ruin the reusable ones anyway like she ruined her pretty white dress with twelve petticoats when she spilled grape juice on it during her first birthday pictures. She slept in a crib because it reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) along with having nothing else in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She does not have any known genetic disorders that would affect her progress in school. Lorelai has been acting differently lately; one day she refuses to go to school and Emily demands to know why she does not want to go to school, pestering her until Lorelai spills that she is being bullied at school by a peer so Emily speaks with the bully s parents and uses her connections to the principle s wife to assure that Lorelai will be protected from the bully. She fails to address Lorelais emotional needs though since bullying can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts. She also prompts the bully to transition from blatant sexual comments and gestures to using relational aggression to isolate Lorelai and try to make her peers ignore her (Ludden, 2015). This attempt is not very successful because, aside from the bully and his immediate clique, Lorelai s wit and gregariousness makes her popular among her peers. Emily gets a call from the neighbor that Lorelai threw a rock through their window so she politely tells the neighbor that she will pay for the window and invites the neighbor to dinner that night where Lorelai is made to formally apologize. • 5. A Fluorescent Mirna Sensor For The Study Of Exrna And Drug... A Fluorescent miRNA Sensor for the Study of exRNA and Drug Delivery Abstract: Increasing evidence suggests cell to cell communication is possible through extracellular RNAs (exRNAs). RNA (including mRNA, miRNA, or lincRNA) has, on many accounts, been found packaged inside extracellular vesicles (EVs) which may traverse through a variety of bodily fluids to be taken up by a recipient cell. The biological significance of exRNAs is largely unknown. However, preliminary studies suggest they may play a role in a variety of important biological processes, including stem cell maintenance, apoptosis, and cancer metastasis. Furthermore, there is much hope in eventually utilizing EVs as a drug delivery vector to supply damaged tissues with therapeutic RNAs. Such a system could overcome the immunological challenges associated with viral vectors. Advances in understanding the biology of exRNA transfer have been hindered by a lack of dynamic methods for detecting changes in RNA concentration in vivo. Northern blotting, microarray, and PCR based approaches are invasive, and sometimes lack sensitivity when dealing with small quantities of RNA. While evidence of their significance is growing, to date no exRNA has been shown to enter and function in a cell in vivo. To address these issues, I have been working on the development of a sensor system for detecting exogenous small RNAs. This molecular sensor will exploit the ability of microRNAs (miRNAs) to bind to, and repress, target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Teacher Can Impact A Student s Life Confucius, a famous Chinese teacher said, Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace. In the previous quote by Confucius, it is obvious that a teacher can impact a student s life. Moreover (TRANS), the way a teacher generates hope and confidence provide a good equity at school for the students; therefore, a good teacher spread confidence in students, which may help them to be encouraged. Maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness, encouraging students, and finding the right teachingmethods for each student are three of the many characteristics in becoming an inspirational teacher. First, maintaining the right balance of strictness and friendliness is one of the most impactful factors for a teacher who (AC) tries to have an appropriate relationship between students. Also, instructors are supposed to follow up with their students to understand students difficulties and their situation in life. Providing an email address, phone number, and office hours help students to keep in touch with their instructor. However, teachers need to keep the balance between friendliness and strictness; moreover, an inspirational instructor needs to set up some rules for the classroom environment. For example, the instructor may request students politely that they are not allowed to use their phone during the class because it distracts them from paying attention to the class and subject. However, instructors should not be hard for their students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is what Trump said he would say if he was the coach of one of the football teams that had players that kneeled during the national anthem instead of standing. The kneeling protests began when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem on September 14, 2017, to protest against police violence against African Americans. On September 24, 2017, many other NFL players joined in on the protests because Donald Trumpdemanded that those who kneeled during the national anthem were to be fired. The main reasons for these protests are because of the racial inequality in our society and the deaths caused by police actions. These protests... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have drawn a false equivalency between military service and love of country without recognizing that patriotism takes many forms and is far more complicated than a simple salute. (Ashley Nicolas, a US veteran). People suspect that to be patriotic you have to do certain things like stand for the national anthem at sporting events or say the pledge of allegiance at school. If people see them not do those things then people will think that they hate our country or they are being disrespectful to the military. But there is not just one way of showing your patriotism. Being patriotic can be perceived differently by everyone. People should not believe in the misapprehension that if you don t stand for the national anthem that you are being disrespectful when it is for a different reason, like standing against racism. The concept of patriotism is a very complex one. It s not as simple as reciting a pledge or singing an anthem. Patriotism, by simple definition, is the exaltation of national eminence, typically expressed as power over other nations, and an emotional attachment to the nation that one originates from. (Michael Cade Hughes). As it says in this piece of evidence, patriotism is more than just standing for our national anthem. Being patriotic can mean many different things to different individuals. People should see a new perspective of what being patriotic means and not judge people for their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of President Abbas s Adherence To The Power Of Power The essence of this dissertation relies in arguing that one of the main factors of the PA s adherence to security coordination despite its deviation from bilateral agreements in other regards is Abbas s devotion to the power; capacities and benefits, which security coordination provides him with. Using security coordination, Abbas established a monopoly over the use of force to cement his leadership after he took over the reins from the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat (Amrov and Tartir, 2014). Moreover, as previously mentioned, Abbas s policy of crackdown on Islamists and leftist in the West Bank is not only about maintaining law and order as the PA claims, but is about keeping himself and the PA in power and preventing a repeat of... In a 2010 Maan News Agency poll, 78% of the respondents said that they believe that the PA security forces are engaged in surveillance, monitoring activities, and intervening in people s privacy under the name of security coordination (Tartir, 2017: 4). In 2013, the public opinion poll conducted by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Center shows that after 20 years of signing the Oslo Accords 55.4% of the Palestinians want to see security coordination terminated (Public opinion word doc). However, the 2014 poll conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies shows that 80% of the Palestinians oppose security coordination and want it terminated (Poll Arab). This growing opposition was not formed out of the void, Palestinians have either been witnessing their own security forces performing the job of the occupier and in a severer manner, or have seen them stepping aside while the occupier conducts its operation in the territory that is supposed to be under their jurisdiction (Clarno 2013, Tartir 2017, Sayigh 2011, Marten 2014). Security coordination has transformed the Palestinian forces from defending their own people into asserting domination over them. As a result, shoppers were often led to believe they were buying products that were more helpful than they really were. Nutrition panels on labels were also confusing and hard to read. But the Australia New Zealand Authority (ANZFA) changed all that. In March 2001 the ANZFA defined new standardized terms that appear on food labels such as low fat , reduced and lean to control how food manufacturers could put their facts that are relevant to most of our dietary needs. This meaning that food labeling helps consumers to make the best possible food choice. What is a food label? What is on a food label? A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. The Failure Of The Middle Of His Stories Emily Garcia Tornquist ENG 020 Professor Carolan September 22, 2014 The Failure to Cope J.D. Salinger drops the reader into the middle of his stories. Without any sense of characters, setting, or plot, the reader is thrown into the lives of others as they scramble to unearth the truth behind the scenes. Salinger provides complex stories of relatable characters; some are stories of happiness and others are of loss and dysfunction. Often times, the characters have difficulties dealing with the harsh realities of their lives and have to look towards alternate means of coping. Society fosters an overly structured environment with little room for atypical relationships, ideals, and behaviors. Anything that is outside of the normal is immediately written off and labeled as deviant behavior, something that is often frowned upon in this day and age. The characters in Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger use various coping mechanisms to escape the reality that societal norms and traditionalism present. Seymour Glass of A Perfect Day for Bananafish is a twisted character who, having returned from the traumas of war, has a hard time fitting back into a routine of normalcy. His partner, Muriel, is more interested in the material things that surround her than she is with her lover. When Seymour cannot find the partnership that he needs with Muriel, he is forced to switch to an alternate source of companionship. He meets a young girl named Sybil on the beach, and quickly bonds with her. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the mission statements of Home Depot and Nike. The evaluation starts with an explanation of criteria for a quality mission statement ; then assesses whether Home Depot and Nike meet such criteria. The assessment will show that the mission statement of Nike is much more effective than that of Home Depot. Nike s mission statement easily meets more quality criteria. In the scholarly article entitled The Relevance of Mission Statements: Analysing the Antecedents of Perceived Message Quality and Its Relationship to Employee Mission Engagement, Desmidt (2016) proclaims that high levels of mission comprehension ambiguity in mission statements cause a detrimental impact on motivational power (pp. 898 899). The ambiguity and length of the mission statement fails to meet the criteria for clarity. The sheer length of space taken in the previous paragraph to cite the mission statement serves as evidence of its failure to meet criteria for shortness, sharpness, and specificity. In the textbook Strategic Management for Organizations, Abraham (2012) defines a mission statement as a concise statement and declares, It should not contain statements of values, strategies, or objectives (although many companies make this error) (p. 40). Home Depot is one of those many companies who made this error by openly incorporating eight core values. Furthermore, the length and vagueness also make the mission statement quite forgettable. The term broad is used to describe the company s selection of products, but can also be used to describe its mission statement. In illustrating the criteria to be realistic, Kotler affirms, The company should avoid making the mission too narrow or too broad (as cited in Olsen, 2010, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here are seven other dream meanings for shoes are: 1.Not feeling grounded as your feet are covered. 2.If shoes are worn out, you could feel worn out or there is a worn out situation in your life. 3.Shoes that feel heavy may signify something heavy in your life that you re dragging around. 4.New shoes may symbolize an opportunity... • 13. The Importance Of High School Student Athletes Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for most athletes, high schoolsports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost. The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run. For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The General Capabilities Of Joint Force The general capabilities of joint force 2025 I believe necessary to rebalance the force based on the current strategic direction, and global security environment is the global surveillance and strike (GSS) network, increased naval and air investments and increased investment in cyber technology. The GSS system would allow the U.S. militaryto strike quickly and remain engaged for increased periods of time while additional forces are moved to the area of concern. Naval and air investments are critical. The Navyand Air Force allows us to project power to areas of the world far from our base of operations. Air power also enables us to provide support for ground forces and deterrence and denial of enemy forces. Cyber investments are critical because cyber technology will increasingly be the engine that runs our future military and allows us to attack adversary s cyber networks and infrastructure. The GSS network will be a vital piece for rebalancing the force in 2025. This network would enable the joint force to better utilize capabilities of unmanned systems and automation, extended range and low observable air operations, undersea warfare, and complex system engineering and integration. The idea is to distribute the capability geographically to assist U.S. forces with a quick strike capability anywhere in the world. The capability should have much less reliance on bases and be less vulnerable to enemy air defense systems. All parts of the US military would benefit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Analysis Of Miss Brill Analysis of the Point of View in Miss Brill Katherine Mansfield s short story, Miss Brill, is a well written story of an elderly, unmarried woman in Europe. In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses stream of consciousness point of view to show alienation and loneliness, appearances and reality, and Miss Brill s perceptions as she attempts to make herself fit in with the park goers. Miss Brill is an older lady who makes a living teaching English to school children and reading newspapers to an old invalid gentleman (Wilson 2: 139). Her joy in life comes in her visits to the park on Sunday where she is notorious for sitting in on other people s lives (Wilson 2: 140). It is there that her ritualistic, monotonous journey that Miss Brill refers to as a play takes place. From the beginning of the story, it becomes apparent that Miss Brill is the epitome of the definition of lonely. She starves to have just a little warmth and companionship. In the story, she has a fur necklet that she tenderly caresses as if it were a pet that she rubs the life into the little dim eyes (Mansfield 175). Loneliness in Miss Brill is also shown through the music in the park. The loneliness is shown through her perception of how the music is like someone playing with only the family to listen (Mansfield 175). The whole time, Miss Brill thinks of herself as part of this family playing the music, but in reality she is just an on site observer. On this particular Sunday, it was the first day of the Season so the band seemed louder and gayer (Mansfield 175). However, Miss Brill is somewhat disappointed that there are only two people near where she is seated (Wilson 2: 136) Because they do not talk, her little world that she is rebuffed by that world and her fantasy falls apart (Wilson 2: 140). When the characters in the play are silent, Miss Brill imagines what they must be saying. However, their silence makes eavesdropping on their lives quite difficult (Wilson 2: 145). She also has a tendency to judge the characters, seeing them in ways that others in the garden likely view her. For instance, she finds many of the older people in the garden odd, silent, nearly all old, and from the way they stared they looked as though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the early nineties Pinker s debate of language acquisition became a popular notion due to the beliefs within his book The Language Instinct (1994). The book describes the basic human instinct to learn and acquire language as a means to communicate and understand situations. In a similar vein to Chomsky he describes language as an instinct and not a skill that s dependant on acquisition. This conceptsuggests that proof is merely the way that children can speak without formal rules being explained and knowledge inessential in order to apply language, in a manner that would be evolved through necessity dating back to hunter gatherer culture. The book suggests that a section of the brain is specifically used to apply these skills and that it is an inbuilt commodity that we are born with. However, no proof in within science has been found to agree or disagree with this idea. A differing view that contrasts the Nativist theory of innate language acquisition is from the theorists Sapir and Whorf. The two never wrote the hypothesis together, but due to similarities in the thesis they are often cited together (Whorf was a student of Sapir). Their concept is based upon an Empiricist approach in suggesting that language is acquired through circumstantial upbringing. However, several concepts of Hyperbolic geometry were already known by that time, it just was not labeled as Hyperbolic geometry (or non Euclidean geometry) because Hyperbolic geometry was not yet discovered . Euclid s work was so distinguished that it was accepted as the standard so people did not think it was possible for other geometries to exist. She was a powerful and dynamic character in a time when strong women were not depicted in Greek culture. Medea was an unconventional woman in ancient Greek times, and it was uncharacteristic for females in Athenian society to be a heroine and focal point. Medea, the protagonist, was the daughter of Aeetes of Colchis, she was driven by passion and committed horrendous crimes for the love of Jason. Euripides characters are a relatively flat character, and they do not change dramatically throughout the play. The character Medea is cynical, wicked, scheming and unlike any other heroine in ancient times, she blames Jason for her predicament and seeks out revenge against everything that he loved. The opening act takes place in the setting outside of Jason and Medea home in Corinth, Medea standing outside irradiates to the Chorus how Jason victimized her and deserted the family. Like other plays in Greek history, the play included The Chorus which was comprised of the women from Corinth; the there role was to converse with Medea and evoke sympathy for her character. The Nurse, Chorus, and Medea give a history of Medea and Jason s relationship, and the inciting incidence begins. Medea describes how she is distraught and shattered because she sacrificed everything for Jason, yet he is leaving her and their two sons to marry Glauce. The Bible/Christianity has always been used to address both sides of an issue on Gender. I choice Abortion and homosexuality because it has been in the news for a while now since 1988. People have been debating on the issue that women should not have an abortionbecause it is considered a crime, while using the Bible as a reference. While others believe that women have the right to whether or not to have an abortion. Also, using the Bible to give their reasons. Homosexualityis also a big issue in America history because some people think that people who are homosexual have a right to marry their same gender or whosoever they feel like because it is their rights to freedom and Liberty. While others opposed homosexuality as an act of the devil referencing from the Bible that God did not put men and women on earth to be homosexual, but to be heterosexual like Adam and Eve. This is an issue addressing abortion. Some People have been protesting in favor of Abortion since the 1984 to present day. Those who are in favor of abortion think is up to the pregnant person, whether or not if they want to keep the pregnancies or abort it. Women are killing an innocent fetus in other words, because they claim it is not a baby or are not ready to bear or whatever the case might be. Aside from the author s purpose of Jonah, the book s purpose for the individual depends on the view on its nature and on a person s exegesis (Gaebelein, Jonah Section) (a personal, educated, critical interpretation). There is still much argument over whether the book of Jonahis historical or parabolic. The parabolic view faces numerous difficulties. For example, historical references in the Biblesuch as 2 Kings 14:25 ( BibleGateway. Quick Search: Jonah. N.p., n.d. The historical notion is greatly supported because God Himself referred to the book of Jonah as historical (see Matthew 12:38 41, Luke 11:29 30, 32). On the parabolic side, there is a main argument against Jonah being historical. It is the impossibility of Jonah surviving in the whale s stomach for three days and three nights (See Jonah 1:17). This argument has flaws. There are instances that display that a person could survive in this environment (stranger occurrences have happened in our time). Plus, they were of brief periods of time. On the other hand, multiple explanations have been stated as to how it could have happened with little inconvenience for Jonah, but these cannot be stated with certainty. (Gaebelein, Jonah Section) Since the whale incident is very generalized, personal interpretations should not come into play. As a note, parabolic interpretations can be categorized as both personal interpretations and spiritual interpretations that teach moral lessons. Jonah was not sent to preach monotheism or higher ethics to Nineveh; but the purpose of Jonah s message was to bring Nineveh to repentance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A student will not excel academically if they do not enjoy attending school in general, or attending specific classes therefore, what are some causes for a student feeling this way. It is evident that the interactions between the students and instructors play a large role in how the students feel about classes and school in general. Two major factors come into play here and they are, the instructors social and emotional support for students and the nature of [the instructors ] expectations for students academic performance (Hallinan, 2008). This interaction between student and instructor is of great value as it influences how a student perceives themself and their environment within the school system. For example, students that perceive they are being overlooked or their capabilities are being undervalued by the instructor will perform poorly. Conversely, when an instructor shows the student some attention, and shows them they are capable and of value as a student, the student will perform to the best of their ability. However, for either of these scenarios to persist the instructor must be consistent with their interactions with the student. Moreover, if the instructor s expectations and interactions are not consistent with regard to the student then the ability in predicting the student s success in school or their feelings toward school becomes problematic. According to Martin Luther King Jr s Letter from Birmingham Jail , there are many ways to achieve this, but the best possible course of action would be through nonviolent direct action, which includes but is not limited to: peaceful protest, sit ins and civil disobedience. In King s letter, he proclaims his reasoning behind nonviolent direct action, including: the concept that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere (par. 4), extremism can be used positively (par. 22), and the fact that oppressed people will not stay oppressed forever (par. 24). King uses literary devices including ethos, logos, and pathos to prove and reaffirm that which he is trying to convey. The mission to secure and retain an effective teacher can be costly. However, the price to identify and retain these teachers have been in question to policymakers. Large scale education policy studies focus on relationships between easily classifiable teacher background attributes and student outcomes (Baker Cooper, 2015; Ballou Podgursky, 1995). The role of the federal government expanded after The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and heighten the pressure on schools to demonstrate student achievement (Smith, 2008), leaving schools more accountable to education success. The NCLB act demanded high qualification standards for teachers, but currently there is a shortage. Jacob (2007) describes the shortage as a number of effective teachers the district wants to employ is greater than effective teachers willing to work for given salary. Disadvantaged schools are unable to compete with higher salaries because of their budget. This literature review will evaluate cost effective ways to retain effective teachers in schools that lack resources. Quality Teachers vs Effective Teachers. School leaders need to be able to identify what they are looking for when recruiting and retaining.
