The Consequences Of Ritalin
Many individuals are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) or Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Ritalin is a medication that is prescribed after diagnosis to offset its
symptoms. As with most drugs, Ritalin has side effects, some of which are commonly associated with
most pharmaceutical drugs but much more severe. Ritalin is a central Nervous system stimulant that
affects ones central nervous system which controls cognition, thought processes and even regular
breathing. Ritalin should be reconsidered as a remedy to either ADD or ADHD as the consequences of
this medication can evolve into illegal drug use outside of what are common side effects. Drugs such
as Ritalin produce successful outcomes for many patients but

The Importance Of Crosswalks
Every day Public Administration #3 The observed activity was crosswalks. Crosswalks enable
pedestrians to cross busy and hazardous roadways more safely. Prior to the advent of crosswalks
pedestrians would cross the street anywhere and were at risk of injury even by horse powered
vehicles. This is important to Public Administration as it is a safety concern for the public. This paper
will discuss the use, funding, government and citizen involvement, and how the chosen topic of
crosswalks are related to Public Administration.

Citizen Involvement Citizens have several ways to get involved. Meeting are open to the public at
both the level of the Florida legislature and meetings held by the Orange County Planning and Zoning
Commission. Meetings by the Planning and Zoning Commission are televised as well according to Dr.
Torres. Currently no meetings are planned for the rest of this year.
Any Citizen has access to crosswalks and any citizen can submit a request or review for safety. All
citizens have a right to safety. Pedestrians are merely people traveling without a road based vehicle.
Any person who would choose to become a pedestrian would very likely be using this service if they
are abiding by the law. Therefore, this service affects everyone and can be used by anyone.
Funding
The construction and up keep of crosswalks is paid for by taxes as many forms of Public
Administration are. The two forms of taxes that pay for this service are sales taxes and Gasoline

The Theory Of Cognitive Therapy
Abstract
The theory of Cognitive Therapy was Beck s initial therapy approach to depression. This paper will
provide an overview of Cognitive Therapy and treatment modalities for depression, as well as the
writer s personal view on counseling and cognitive therapy. Additionally, the paper will examine
depression as a presenting problem and the use (application) of Cognitive Therapy theory to treating a
person with depression.
Cognitive Therapy Theory as Applied to Depression
Review of Cognitive Therapy Theory Cognitive Therapy (CT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
(CBT) are used interchangeable. Cognitive therapy is a series of short term treatments that teaches
specific skills.
Aaron T. Beck is known as the founder of CT for depression in the 1960s and 70s, and he and some
colleagues developed a full manual that described the treatment (DeRubeis, Siegle, Hollon, 2008, p.
789). Further, the authors indicates that in CT the role of the therapist is to teach the individual how to
acquire the basic skills to recognize negative thoughts and images that causes the emotional
experience and how to block out those thoughts and images that are believed to be the contributing
factor (p. 789). Jarrett, Vittengl, Clark, and Thase (2011) implies that the purpose of CT is to teach a
person to identify and modify relations between thoughts, feelings, and behavior so that it will help
alleviate emotional distress. Hofmann, Asmundson and Beck (2013) indicates that CT

Collier County History Essay
Collier County History Collier County was created as one of many new counties during the 1920 land
boom and was named after Barron Gift Collier a businessman who had a vision for the growth and
development of the southwestern coast of Florida. It is the state of Florida s 62nd county and in terms
of total land area, it is the third largest in the state. It is even the birthplace of swamp buggy racing.
Some of the first residents arrived centuries ago after migrating farther south after the end of the last
Ice Age. However, the first permanent settlers did not arrive until the 1880 s when communities
started to form along the respective Naples and Immokalee territories (Collier County Museum 2017).
By 1920, numerous railroads and the infamous Tamiami Trail popped up in the heart of the swamp
land, allowing for the expansion and development of the region. Quickly engineers and architects
were constructing schools, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

live in multimillion dollar estates along the beaches of Naples, and everybody in between. As one
would expect, there are many differences in the services offered between the rural and urban parts of
the county. In the cities, there are numerous hospitals, urgent cares, and specialty physician clinics
lining the streets. There are gyms, golf courses, and organic food markets around every corner. The
streets are filled with fancy cars and golf carts to match this luxurious lifestyle. Along with these
upscale restaurants and facilities, are more middle class amenities, such as pizza by the slice eateries

Mary Shelly s The Novel Of Frankenstein
The novel Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelly and was first published in 1818 anonymously.
Then, revised edition of the novel was published with the preface written by her husband, Percy
Bysshe Shelly. As, this novel was first published namelessly, many people thought that the man, who
wrote the preface, Percy Shelly, was the author of the book. Consequently, there are few
disagreements about the authorship of Frankenstein. Many people refuse to accept that Mary Shelly is
the real author of Frankenstein. As per Mary, her husband has encouraged her to write this novel and
has edited her novel as well. However, many people still question about the amount of contribution
into the novel by Percy Shelly. Many critics claim that Frankenstein is a masterpiece. Then they
question how an eighteen years old girl, who has self studied, could come up with this horror,
imaginative and hideous ideas as in this novel. However, I disagree with all these beliefs and questions
about the authorship of Frankenstein and I strongly believe that Mary Shelly is the only author of this
novel.
Firstly, Mary Shelly becomes familiar with the writings of the famous radical writers in her young
age, which motivate her to write novels. The article by Wilson Quarterly highlights the ability of Mary
Shelly to write novels at her early age and comments that, Mary Shelly, however was no ordinary 18
old girl. Daughter of anarchist philosopher William Godwin and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft (who

The Endangered Species Act and The Wildlife Conservation...
When a species is endangered, how are they going to be saved? People, from all over the country,
work together and perform tasks to help wildlife. Endangered means a species is close to extinction,
and it is up to humanity to make the efforts needed to save wildlife from this tragedy. All it takes is a
simple gesture in the right direction, like focusing on special rights that protect animals from being
nonexistent. Many efforts have been made to protect endangered wildlife, such as, the Endangered
Species Act, restoring habitats, and reducing wildlife threats. The purpose of the Endangered Species
Act is to help imperiled species and the ecosystems in which they live. It is administered by the United
States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Marine Fisheries Service. That means, that the
Endangered Species Act has primary responsibility for terrestrial and freshwater organisms, as well as
all land animals. This law protects the rights of wildlife, so it assures the protection from poaching,
and all forms of hunting. Also, for the purposes of the Act, Congress defined species to include
subspecies, and different varieties (Endangered). Benefits of the Endangered Species Act include, the
protection of wildlife and critical habitats, as well as other bonuses. It creates jobs for wildlife
dependent communities and the communities that support and sponsor the Act, by exposing
ecosystems to new natural resources.
Another benefit is that it protects

Sports And Consumerism In Sports
Decades have passed and with time comes change, it should not come as a shock that as a society we
ve grown and developed. The way we consume sports, its mechanisms, and the culture behind it, has
changed outstandingly. The effects that media has had on the sporting industry and consumerism in
the past two decades have been tremendous. The development of high definition tv s, live streamed
sporting events, video games, and even social media, has globalized sport and transformed the way
fans and athletes interact. This transformation from conventional sports consumerism to modern day
has come as a great shock to many. Stephen Brunt s article Sports Consumption Will Undergo
Revolution in the Decade Ahead focuses on how the landscape of the sporting industry will be
profoundly transformed, not only in the games and the athletes themselves but in the way we consume
them as entertainment. Brunt s argument on how the new modern tools that have been developed (in
association with sports) have changed his view of the all American dream of sports consumerism, is
outdated. We do not agree with Brunt s arguments towards the future of sports consumption, and the
supposedly negative effects that will come in regards to future generations.
On the contrary, David J. Leonard New Media and Global Sporting Cultures: Moving Beyond the
Clichés and Binaries contradict Brunt s argument by stating To the skeptics who simply refuse to

Symbolism In A Young Goodman Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a story based around real events that took place during the seventeenth
century. Goodman Brown is exposed to the real world and what may be the true identity of the people
around him. After seeing the truth, Goodman Brown does not know who he can truly trust. Although
Brown loves his wife and is strong in his faith, he begins to question himself and everything around
him. This story is written with foreshadowing, symbolism, and point of view. In the story, A Young
Goodman Brown , Nathanial Hawthorne uses true events to portray how life can sometimes be
confusing and a lie.
Nathanial Hawthorn was born on July 4th 1804 and he died on May 19th 1864. His home life helped
him create this great story. His father died and left him and his siblings with his stepmother. Nathanial
took life events and created a beautiful story making people question do you really know a person.
This story really never tells if the vision Goodman Brown has is true or just a nightmare.
Many of the characters have small roles that are very significant to the end of the story. Nathanial s
characters are flat, with little to no detail. The information given about the characters was not a great
amount. Faith is one of the first characters shown in the short story. She is a very important key to the
story because Goodman Brown loves her so. Hawthorne based A Young Goodman Brown on many
true events. The Salem witch trails is said to begin, In January 1692, two girls began

The Importance Of Stereotyping
How Negative Stereotypes can be Harmful A stereotype is a cognitive shortcut that allows the brain to
make snap judgments based on immediately visible characteristics such as gender, race, or age
(Bolton). It could often lead to incomplete assumptions about other people based on characteristics
within a specific group of people. For example, the stereotype that girls are bad at math can lead to the
suggestion that some innate difference between women and men leads to this discrepancy (Bolton).
Stereotyping can be negative because it can affect the way people are treated based on race, social
class, and gender. According to Claude Steele, The reason is that we have a lot of identities our
gender, our race, our age. And about each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He disallowed them to enter through Customs when they arrived in the Unites States because he felt
they posed a threat. This had an impact on the United States because some of them were School
Teachers, Blue Collar Workers and Federal Employees.
Classism is when a person is being treated differently, for better or worse, based on their social class.
Prejudice against members of other social classes leads to fear of unwanted influences by the other
groups. For example, people of higher status do not generally mix with lower status people and often
are able to control other people s activities by influencing laws and social standards ( Social Class
Prejudice ). These perspectives are being passed on from one generation to another.
Gender stereotyping refers to attributes or characteristics that are possessed by a woman or a man.
This type of stereotype can be harmful to people because it can affect the develop that he/she has.
Also, it can be a violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms. According to Steve Craig s
research (1997), Women can be presented in commercials in several variants. The first one is the most
popular: a housewife obsessed by a steam on a new tablecloth or a woman whose main problem is
lack of ideas for dinner (Wolska). Men and women in the workforce look for jobs that are attached to
their gender. For example, many women are hired in the hospitality industry because women are
thought of as nurturing, emotional and friendly

That is an important statement. The other services, the interagencies are dependent on the Army to
provide support to their actions. So as we look to the Army of 2020, as a part of Joint Force 2020, how
do we want to shape it? Today, we are an Army that is globally engaged in 150 countries on six of
seven continents. We have over 95,000 Soldiers deployed in support of operations; another 96,000
Soldiers forward stationed. Our strategic posture is a testament to our flexibility and adaptability as
well as our unmatched credibility as the best trained, best equipped, and best led land force in the
world. Moving forward, our Army s primary purpose is steadfast and resolute: to fight and win our
Nation s wars. But we all know that the Army must be able to do much more than that. Today, we
require an Army that is adaptive and innovative, flexible and agile, integrated and synchronized, lethal
and discriminate. Even more critical in today s complex and uncertain environment, the Army is the
decisive arm of the Joint Force in a broad range of missions. Historically the Army has been focused
on a specific set of needs, but these needs and the means in which they are resourced have changed.
So we must fundamentally change how we do business. As we keep adding rocks to our Soldiers
rucksacks, all leaders must remain cognizant over time. Everyone s load can get too heavy and cause
permanent wear and tear. So it is a good idea to

Aromaticity cannot directly be experimentally measured. However, various methods were performed
such as computational studies from the Schleyer group^1, which address the energy, structural

Reaction
Different substituents have different effects on the stability of 1. Effect of these substituents were
studied on the relative stability of 1. Either these substituents have an electron withdrawing effect or
electron donating effect on the ring. Electron withdrawing group such as trialkylsilyl groups attached
directly to the carbenium ion centre have a destabilizing effect. However,
tris(trimethylsilyl)cyclopropenylium hexachloroantimonate (2) could be synthesize from readily
available materials as shown in figure 2 and it s relatively stable.^4
As shown in figure 3, C C bond lengths for the tris(trimethylsilyl)cyclopropenylium cation are not
equal. The ring is significantly distorted from its ideal D_3h symmetry since one of the carbon atoms
in the ring system is close to the chlorine atoms in the hexachloroantimonate. This distortion shows
that it is caused by the counterion and lattice effects.^4 Using the isodesmic hydride transfer reaction,
the effect of trisilyl and trismethyl substitution was calculated. Three sillyl groups stabilize 1 by 22.4

The Concepts Of Separate Personality And Limited Liability...
This essay will explain the concepts of separate personality and limited liability and their significance
in company law. The principle of separate personality is defined in the Companies Act 2006(CA) ;
subscribers to the memorandum, together with such other persons as may from time to time become
members of the company are a body corporate by the name contained in memorandum. This
essentially means that a company is a separate legal personality to its members and therefore can itself
be sued and enter into contracts. This theory was birthed into company law through the case of
Salomon v Salomon and Co LTD 1872. This case involved a company entering liquidation and the
unsecured creditors not being able to claim assets to compensate them. The issue in this case was
whether Mr Salomon owed the money or the company did. In the end, the House of Lords held that
the company was not an agent of Mr Salomon and so the debts were that of the company thus creating
the corporate Veil . It seems understandable that a business should exist as a separate legal personality
as it would be impossible for an individual s motives and goals to be perfectly in line with that of the
company as is demonstrated above in Salomon. Following this theory the idea that the rights and
duties of a company are not that of its members and shareholders as demonstrated in the case of Lee v
Lee Air Farming . The principle of separate personality has had many implications on company law
since the

Main Outline And Argument
Summarization of Main Outline/Argument:
Ellen G White is very clear on her view regarding divorce. She s radically against divorce. However
there is some case when the innocent party can ask for divorce or decide to stay with the guilty person.
I found several arguments regarding divorce on her writing.
➢ Marriage is the contract of life; therefore, spouse has no right to ask for divorce.
➢ We must view divorce according to God s law.
➢ Adultery is the only ground for divorce.
➢ The innocent party can decide to stay or marry someone else.
➢ Divorce brings suffering between husband and wife.
➢ In case of abuse, you can separate with the person but not legally divorce.
➢ The wife has no right to divorce her unbeliever husband.
➢ Scripture don t give enough room for divorce.
Research Conclusion:
My research question was: When it s appropriate for a spouse to ask for divorce? This question comes
in my mind because when I was a Pastor in the Southern Conference in Haiti there is one of my
colleagues get divorce with his wife without the ground of adultery. The wife is the one who ask for
divorce because she said she didn t see herself as a pastor s wife and want to live her life without any
restriction. The executive committee knew about this issue and they decided to layoff the Pastor, even
he has nothing to do regarding this divorce. Since that day, I was curious to learn about Divorce in
Ellen G, White writings. In my research, I found out that Ellen G white is against the

and quicksands are the things that humans have to suffer through their everyday lives. My reaction to
this quote is that he seems really depressed. Not everyone is always having a bad day. The second
central idea in the excerpt is about the railroads. The comment can not be perfect, but it is true. When

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Gap Among Working Women
Critical Analysis Template
PRINCIPLE:
The gender pay gap is defined as a discrepancy in the average level of wages, salaries, and income
received by two group, such as men and women (Lawrence Weber, 2014, p. 548).
There is a 21% pay gap between women ($0.79) and men ($1.00). Full time working women are paid
79% of their male counterparts pay (AAUW, 2016).
Pay gap grows as worker age, is in public sector work, and widen among married workers than singles
(Plantenga Remery, 2006). The gender pay gap effects women in almost all fields of work and in all
racial or ethnic categories (Lawrence Weber, 2014). Pay inequality also negatively affects the families

Self Concept Is Our Self Identity Essay
Self concept is our self identity, and is the way that one perceives itself, it includes both attitudes and
the collection of beliefs. Self Concept also branches out into self image and self esteem. Self image, is
the way the person pictures itself. The self esteem is the way we evaluate ourselves. We identify
ourselves by our communication, and our interactions with others. In other words I think, therefore I
am (René Descartes; ego cogito, ergo sum ) If a person was to tell another person what they think they
look like, odds are that that person may view himself as what the other person thinks/views him as. It
could either raise or lower the self esteem of the person, it could also enhance the way we view
ourselves, depending on the type of people the person associates, communicates and experience
interactions with them. If a person associates himself or herself with educated people, he or she will
most likely feel respected. If he or she associates with people of less morals, odds are that that person
may just have a lower self esteem and self image compared to the person that hangs around overall
good people.
It is believed that developing a self concept is essential to perform well in the work place. A work
place involves a constant interaction between its workers and environment, communication. Believe it
or not communication and self esteem are related, we perceive ourselves based on our own
experiences and communication with others. The people one is surrounded by

Technology Is A Hindrance In Modern Society
In the 21st Century many individuals argue that technology has made life easier and assist humans by
increased efficiency and productivity. However, they fail to realize that although technology has
become a cornerstone in modern society, it has also become a hindrance in many aspects. The
dictionary defines technology as the machinery and equipment developed from the application of
scientific knowledge. Scientific inventions are man made, as a result, it is flawed and has its adverse
effects. The advancement of technology has damaged society. It has prompted human beings to be less
physically active, which in turn decreases human to human interactions and as a result of individuals
being smart device stricken, it jeopardizes their privacy and safety.
Presently, the advancement of technology has resulted in the decrease of physical activity. Humans
have become lazy because they are overly dependent on their handheld devices. Which in turn results
in the decrease of brain power and human intellect. Many people do not take the liberty to learn
anything anymore because it is easily accessible on their smart devices. Knowledge, information and
just about anything else is at the hands of the common man by way of technology. Therefore, there is
no need for humans to do the extra. Information is accessed in 2.5 seconds via the world wide web.
Scholars do not even bother buying the newspaper, books or any educational material anymore.

Philip Augustus s Success Of The Angevin s Failure
Was Philip Augustus success linked to the Angevin s failure?
Philip Augustus undoubtedly faced weak Angevin opposition. However, it was the economic,
administrative and ideological changes that had taken place in Capetian France, which were the real
driving force behind Philip s success. John s comparative weakness and poor leadership credentials
made Capetian success even more likely, but did not make it inevitable. Philip had to harness the
French economy and win the support of his nobility. He was so successful in these endeavors that he
would have been a match for any 12th century European power.
The strength of the Capetian economy was one of the most important factors in Philip s success. Philip
personally was very interested in developing Paris. He built Les Halles as a market place, paved many
streets and invested heavily in infrastructure. The creation of a large market place and better
transportation meant that the economy picked up and Paris became wealthier. This meant that Philip
could call on Paris for financial support when he went on crusade. Assarting and the creation of
communes furthered strengthened Philip s economy. Between 1150 and 1180 the forests of Othen and
Orleans were cleared, and over 40 new villages created in their wake.1 As Hallam pointed out, the
king allowed these villages to be created and granted them special privileges in exchange for rent
being paid directly to the crown. This cut out the middle men (the local nobility) and greatly

Character Analysis Of Friar Lawrence
Friar lawrence is like a leaf in a different color. He is more close to Romeo than many people in the
play; he deeply cares about the peace and wants to stop the feud, and is considered a holy man. The
author of the play Romeo and Juliet is William Shakespeare. A main character is Friar lawrence, he
has few lines, but changes the story greatly of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is father like to
romeo, he over complicates every situation, he seems like a good hearted but he is a selfish character.
Firstly, Friar lawrence plays a father like role to Romeo, providing wisdom and guidance on his
personal issues. When Romeo admits to Friar lawrence his love for Juliet, who tells him, Holy Saint

he would marry him and Juliet on Thursday, Juliet was upset and Friar Lawrence wanted to stay holy.
Friar proposed the idea of killing her for twenty four hours and sending a note to Romeo, explaining
so she wouldn t have to marry and they would be together which ended up as a big catastrophe; Who

Baba Joon Essay
Baba Joon is the newly released movie by writer/director Yuval Delshad. With a film career that grew
from the documentary world, this is his first feature. Never one to shy from reality, Delshad turned to
a subject that spoke to his heart; the father/son relationship. To create authenticity, the movie is filmed
in the dusty village where Delshad grew up and the actors speak a blend of Hebrew and Farsi, just like
it was in the 1980 s of his childhood. Delshad loves the fact that life imitates art, My baby, Yitamar,
was conceived during the start of photography and he is already trying to crawl! Baba Joon centers on
the conflict of a traditional father, Yitzhak, whose life has been hard and demanding, and his gently
defiant son who, as a pre teen, is refusing to learn how to farm turkeys. The mother understands that
their son, Moti, has no passion for the family livelihood but Yitzhak takes the decision badly. And thus
ends the hopes of all good dreams; the father s desire to pass on his father s business is doomed by his
son s utter disinterest. Here is a kid who has no love of turkeys, no desire to learn the trade and no
appreciation of the art of poultry manufacture. More painful is the perceived lack of respect that the
father senses in Moti s lack of interest. This is the farm that his father built with sweat labor and was

My individual record was also undefeated as well and it was strenuous, to say the least but also
rewarding. Day two we knew was going to be the toughest competition and most stressful. It s that
day that by the end, you know basically what you are competing for. Whether it is for the
championship title or to place overall top ten. All other competition gets done by the end of the second
day and for that to happen means a profusion of matches. The first match of the day was against a very
skillful Alabama team, we won respectfully and geared up for our next match. Giving it all I had was
not enough nor was the whole team s full effort enough to defeat the notorious club team from New
York. The loss was not taken lightly so we moved on knowing we needed to get two consecutive wins
in order to make it in the top 10. At this point in time, I was very anxious to see how strong our team
really is because I really thought we had more in us than what we put out on the mat the last match.
My record was now 4 1 which was looking very impressive. Moving into our next match I had opened
up the first match knowing it was important and I set the tone of the match I would say with a huge
win over a multiple time state champion from the Florida team. My team won that match, meaning
that we were going up against the returning champion team called Young Guns from Pennsylvania.
That match was safe to say the most adrenaline I have had in my body going at one time. The match
really came down to the final bouts of the match, making it a very grueling match to be a part of
because all that was on my mind was the fact that with a huge win here means we sealed the deal the

bringing us to victory in the end of that match. Sleeping that night seemed impossible because there

Nanking Massacre And The Nanking Massacre
In 1937, the Chinese city of Nanking was devastated when the Japanese Imperial Army invaded,
killing around 300,000 people . The Japanese soldiers went into people s homes searching for Chinese
soldiers, and killing civilians. These devastating events are known as the Rape of Nanking , or as the
Nanking Massacre. However, the history of atrocities like this are not always taught. Things such as
the Japanese history textbook controversy show how one event can be remembered, or portrayed, in
many different ways. For the most part, history can be skewed for political reasons. For Japan, making
history their own had benefits, and these benefits could help the government keep their people on their
side of things, and it would try to legitimize their own views on their history.
The forming of loyalty and patriotism through selective teachings of the Nanking Massacre has built
tensions between China and Japan that have, and still do, separate two nations.
The history, which is taught correctly in most nations, is horrifying. The Nanking Massacre lasted for
a span of a few months, with Japanese soldiers sparing no man, woman or child. The title Rape of
Nanking is to describe the raping of women, numbering anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 . Some of
the Chinese captives, some of which were Chinese soldiers, were forced to dig graves for groups of
other captives to be buried alive in, and then would be buried themselves when the next group of
captives dug a new grave .

Hippocampus
Memory is both an essential, yet complex, psychological process that relies on numerous
neuroanatomical structures, including parts of the prefrontal cortex, cerebral cortex, temporal lobe,
amygdala, cerebellum, basal ganglia, and the hippocampus, just to name a few. However, almost all
areas of the human brain are connected to the systematic functioning of memory. According to Okano,
Hirano, Balaban (2000), differentiation between the process of memory and the process of learning is
important in order understanding the neurobiological aspects of memory, although both are very
closely connected. The researchers define memory as a behavioral modification resulting from innate
experiences, while the act of learning is more of a process for ... Show more content on

As part of the limbic system, the hippocampus is associated with the formation of new memories, as
well as the process of learning and regulation of emotions. One of the primary responsibilities that the
hippocampus is known for is its ability to turn short term memories into long term memories.
According to Kalat (2013), the hippocampus is also important to processing three types of memory,
including declarative memory (and episodic memory), spatial memory, and contextual memory. In
studying patients with hippocampal damage, research has shown that the hippocampus is in fact
important to learning to new facts, skills, and utilizing episodic memory (Kalat, 2013). Another
hypothesis regarding the importance of the hippocampus relates to the ability to learn context.
Essentially, it is hypothesized that being able to learn certain context relies on details that are
remembered via the hippocampus. Recollection of memories, particularly more recent ones, relies on
the hippocampus. However, Kalat (2013) also states that as time passes, memory becomes less
detailed, less dependent on the hippocampus, and more dependent on the cerebral cortex (p. 401).
Finally, spatial memory refers to the ability of the brain to record specific information about the layout
or closeness of stimuli within one s general environment. Researchers have been able to study the
effects of the hippocampus on spatial memory through tests using such techniques as the radial maze
or the Morris water maze. Their findings provide evidence of increased activity in the hippocampus
during focus in spatial memories, as well as response learning. It is suggested that it is involved in
associating together information usually originating from different cortical regions, for example, about
objects and their place in the spatial

Production Process And Nutritional Value Of The Foods
Over the past few decades, Americans have become far more conscious of the production process and
nutritional value of the foods they consume. Founded in 1980 in Austin, Texas, Whole Foods Market
is an international supermarket chain that specializes in organic foods and products. As early as 1984,
Whole Foods began expanding across the South and, soon afterwards, expanded to major cities around
the U.S. with new stores and strategic acquisitions. Although organic grocers and health stores existed
prior to Whole Foods founding, founder and CEO John Mackey was the first to scale such a store to

Revenue and net income. Despite the United States slow economic recovery, Whole Foods Market has
nearly quadrupled their revenues over the past ten years, from $4.5 to $15.4 billion. Net income has
also quadrupled in the past ten years, from $150 to $536 million, and has more than doubled over the
past six. This success can be traced back to a history of discovery and innovation in the health and
wellness industry, as well as the cultivation of a lifestyle surrounding customers who shop at Whole
Foods that increases both customer retention and satisfaction.
Same store sales. These are an important metric because they indicate the ability of existing Whole
Foods stores to maintain customers and grow in the face of potential cannibalization and expanding
competition. Comparable store sales were positive every year but 2009 (the year of the Great
Recession). A concerning trend of slowing comparable store sales began in 2013. This trend can be
attributed to increased market saturation Whole Foods now has multiple stores in many major cities
but increased competition may be playing a significant role as well. Overall, growth is still increasing
on a store by store basis. While Whole Foods is still a successful company, a reversal of this declining
trend would be beneficial.
Worker efficiency. The efficiency of Whole Food s employees is indicative of the efficiency of
management.

The Hidden Curriculum In Education
Cheswin Roman 209188731
Hidden Curriculum essay
This essay will explain what the Hidden Curriculum is and its implications on issues in the South
African system. The essay will also reflect my understanding of the concept hidden curriculum. I will
also explain the different levels in the educational system. The second section of the essay I will focus
on what I have identified as the hidden curriculum during my teaching practice experience. In my
conclusion I will address the hidden curriculum in order to redress the concern I have identified.
The hidden curriculum is lessons that we as educators teach informally or unintentionally at school.
Learners will learn unintended values, beliefs, behaviours and norms in the classroom and the social
learning environment (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). They may learn how to interact with
other learners for example debates and class discussions and group work. Hidden curriculum will
initially begin at a young age for learners. In primary school they will be taught how to greet an
educator and to say please and thank you (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). We can basically

responsibility to the schools and educators. Educators had to teach the learners to greet and respect
other learners. The principal also made use of the hidden curriculum by telling educators to see that
the learners are in class during periods and to speak to learners that are a problem. Another example
that I saw during my teaching experience was that if learners got good grades and turn in their
homework on time or even listen to the educator during the class they were rewarded. By doing this
the educator taught the learners how to behave as well as to take pride in their

Symptoms And Treatment Of Acute Pharyngitis
Introduction
According to American Family Physician (2009), acute pharyngitis is a common upper respiratory
tract infection seen in the pediatric population, with most children averaging five sore throats within a
year in the United States. Pharyngitis is the inflammation of the mucosa lining the structure of the
throat including the tonsils, pharynx, uvula, soft palate, and nasopharynx (Burns, Dunn, Brady, Starr,
Blosser, p. 715, 2013). Acute pharyngitis can be caused by both virus and bacteria microorganisms.
About 40 to 60% of acute pharyngitis is of a viral origin (Burns et al., 2013). Adenovirus is the most
common virus associated with acute pharyngitis. Although, there are other associated viruses, which
includes Epstein Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza, herpes simplex
virus, enterovirus, and human immunodeficiency virus (Burns et al., 2013). There are some common
bacterial organisms that are associated with pharyngitis which includes Streptococcus pyogens (group
A streptococcus), Corynbacterium diphtheria, Arcanobacterium haemolyticum, Neisseria
gonorrhoeare, group C and group G streptocococci, and Mycoplasma pneumonia (Burns et al., 2013).
Streptococcus pyogens accounts for 15 to 30 percent of pharyngitis in children, with group A beta
hemolytic streptococcus being the most common cause in children (Burns et. al., 2013). The bacteria
is mostly transmitted through the respiratory route with a 2 5day incubation period, which has

Military Heritage Essay On Taps
Military Heritage Essay Taps
A family cries as the bugle sounds taps, a solemn tune played at a military funeral. How many of us
have ever considered the history behind the sounding of taps? When observed, our traditions create a
sense of heritage and honor. This essay, will discuss the history and importance for the playing of taps.
History
During the American Civil War, a new melody named taps played in the place of lights out. Although,
adopted by the Union Army to mark the end of the day, it also marked the end of life. Taps is the most
recognize bugle call of all times, its origins are straight from the battlefield and is a tribute with the
highest respect.

Adaptation
Private Oliver Wilcox Norton first sounded the notes of taps in 1862 (Schneider, 2002). Only
moments before the call for lights out, Butterfield presented Wilcox the notes for his new melody.
With little practice, Wilcox stood above the camp and began to play Butterfields version of taps. This
beautiful melody quickly spread throughout the Union Army. Often, southern troops were so close
they could hear the trumpet and soon adapted Butterfields taps. After being adapted for lights out, this
melody replaced three cannon volleys to honor a soldier s burial. Cannons exhaust a large plume of
smoke when fired and troops that did not want to expose their position adapted taps in place of cannon
volleys.
Meaning
Battle is an exhausting effort and uncertainty clutters the minds of soldiers in time of chaos. A
soothing melody played over a battle fatigued camp offers comfort. Day is done, gone the sun, words
taken from the lyrics to taps, reminds people they have survived the hardships of the day. All is well,
safely rest; God is nigh, assures people that it is safe to rest and they can be comforted that their God
is near. Taps, born on a battlefield in the darkest days of American history, has similar meaning to all
that have endured combat and uncertainty of living to see the next day. Those that know the history of
taps and its meaning also understand the importance.
Importance
Today, on every American military post, taps retires the

Telenursing! I have been doing Telenursing for 1 1/2 year. I work from my home, which is the number
one reason why I chose this position. I was so close to getting a medical transcription degree because
my number one goal was to work from home. I was very burned out, burnt to a crisp! I had been a
nurse for 18 years, worked in ICU most of those years, and I needed healing. I had severe burnout. I
have two kids and this job has been wonderful, I feel like I m not as much of an absent mom now.
Added bonus, no tired aching feet and painful backaches after lifting 400 lbs. patients and NO HELP
in the ICU, being expected to do way more than one human can do in one shift. Feeling like a failure
because there was not enough time to do all that I was supposed to do and care compassionately for
my patients. Now, I m livin la vida loca! Here is the chew from Lou about Telenursing! After clocking
in for years at No Mercy Hospital, I lost all motivation other than to stay at home with my kids. Since
I discovered Telenursing, I don t have to face nurses who eat their own and I don t feel like I need a
bleach shower after work now. I get to work in my pajamas being a

Critically Assess Literature Surrounding Vehicle Speed...
3.1 Introduction
This chapter critically assess literature surrounding vehicle speed reduction techniques and shared
spaces. Developing a clear understanding of background literature provides a strong theoretical
foundation, or perspective to conduct an effective investigation with regard to how vehicle speed and
presence are crucial aspects as to whether a shared space is successful or not. Therefore, this chapter
will begin with an overview of the history and development of shared spaces followed by vehicle
speed in shared space, risk homeostasis theory, speed reduction techniques, horizontal traffic
deflections techniques, and entrances and surfaces.
3.2 The History Development of Shared Spaces
Ben Hamilton Baille, an architect in the United Kingdom coined the term shared space however, the
original design and concept is accredited to Hans Monderman, a Dutch traffic engineer who invented
the term Woonerf in Nertherlands, 1970 (Ben Joseph, 1995). However, there are many examples today
of shared spaces throughout Australasia, Europe, the UK and the United States.
Historic evidence states that streets has been a place of interaction, movement and activity. When cars
were firstly introduced the road corridors were still a place to walk, move, and play. However, in the
mid twenty century motor vehicles become more popular, where two concepts came to dominate road
design:
The most key role of a road is to accommodate efficient movement and fast journey for vehicles.

period of time.
Definition of marketing structure:

(how the price change, how is the different levels of the production and selling process interact.)
The first definition in Perfect competition
The definition of the perfect competition is that there is an equal level for all firms involved in the
industry to produce the best possible outcomes for consumers. All the firms have the perfect
knowledge and information that they are free to sell the same product with different prices and no one
can stop them.

All the buyers can make the decisions from their own.
The advantages of perfect competition:
1) They can achieve the maximum consumer surplus and economic welfare.
2) All the perfect knowledge is available so there is no information failure.
3) Only normal cost profits cover the opportunity cost.
4) They allocate resources in the most efficient way.
The disadvantages of the perfect competition:
1) There is no chance to achieve the maximum profit because of the huge number of other firms that
are selling the same products.
2) There is no courage to develop new technology because of the perfect knowledge and the ability to
share all of the information.
3) Lack of productdifferentiation because all of the products are the same and they are not branded.
4) Reducing the research and development process.
Examples about the perfect competition:
Actually, there are no perfect market in the real world but there are some industries that might be close
to this perfect competition. For example, street food vending or farmers that will sell the fruits and
vegetable in the same price.
Monopoly

which means that there no

Iago By William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is able to manipulate different characters throughout Othello by appearing to be honest and
trustworthy, and using this to make people believe what he is saying is the truth. This means that Iago
can tell them what he wants, in order to achieve whatever he desires. Simply, Iago is a two faced
character. A very ironic part of the play is when Iago says, By Janus , as Janus is a two faced Roman
god.
The first person/character is Rodrigo. Rodrigo is blinded by his love for Desdemona and is prepared to
try anything to win her heart. This makes him an easy target for Iago, as Rodrigo will do anything to
get what he wants, Desdemona. Rodrigo is initially upset with Iago, as he has paid Iago to encourage a
marriage between him and Desdemona, but instead Desdemona had married Othello. However, Iago
easily restores Rodrigo s faith in him by saying his hatred for Othello he says with erratic words, like
despise me, I do not when Rodrigo asks if he hates Othello. Rodrigo is used for his money, Iago tells
his him repeatedly to put money in thy purse . Even when Rodrigo threatens Iago, assure yourself I
will seek satisfaction of you (Scene four), he doesn t have the necessary the mindset and power to
back up his threats, and instead is convinced by Iago to murder Cassio by knocking out his brains .
However, Iago intents Rodrigo, as well as Cassio to live Rodrigo . To make sure of this he stabs
Rodrigo after Cassio wounds him.
Another person manipulated by Iago is

How To Write A Narrative Essay On The Odyssey
Thanks, grandma! exclaimed Haley cheerfully, I m looking forward to a book full of adventure and
pirates! She skipped outside with a big smile on her face. the book wasn t really that appealing. It had
been torn and had patches of grey. It smelt like old grandmas too and was extremely dusty. Haley didn
t mind, she liked the book. Haley turned the first page of the book, it was gold like parchment and had
black ink writing. She had finiShed reading the book until she fell into a deep sleep with her book
open to the page of the Daisy Meadows.
Haley blinked twice and looked up, a smiling face stared at her. Hello, smiled the boy, I m Dean
Thomas and you are? He had red hair, a checked bow tie, long brown pants, a blue striped and he
smelt like lavender. I found you in the Daisy Meadows, the father had always said to help ... Show

interrupted, Do you want to go exploring in the woods? Haley had never gone on and adventure so she
was really excited. Ok! she exclaimed. Dean ran to him s bedroom to get a small brown, dust bag.
They packed A pair of old binoculars and some wild berries. He put on his special explorer cap and
black boots. Haley thought that this could be the right time to tell Dean the truth. They followed the
rocky path to a monstrous, leafy tree and at the top, there was a rust colored Treehouse. Come on the

They both climbed up and sat on two dust rosy cushions. There wasn t much there just a mucky mat

Impact Of Pollution On Ozone Depletion
Jamie Kanzler Extended Essay: What is the impact of pollution on ozone depletion? Section 1:
Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These
elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon dioxide.
Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans have caused
the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called pollutants. A
pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a concentration
greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many different pollutants
exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their toxicity to vary. Generally,
pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary pollutants. A primary pollutant is a
chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common primary pollutants include nitrogen
monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. A
volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that participates in a photochemical reaction in
the atmosphere. The second type of pollutant, a secondary pollutant, is produced when primary
pollutants go through a chemical reaction with environmental constituents in the atmosphere.
Examples of secondary pollutants include sulfuric acid, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. These pollutants

Mean Girls Sociology Essay

Sociology 101
George Kinder
Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the
traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent
environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school could
be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and surviving the
potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a result of a dire need
to fit in. In the film, we re first introduced with the impression that high schoolers and the staff are
super strict and have no sympathy for the new students. As it subtly resembles almost a ... Show more

but it s happening. This film highly impacts the vulnerability and unsure senses that these teens have.
As the teachers could care less about what s going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly think of
it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in with these
thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her original home,
Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival of the fittest at its
best. That s probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school to, a jungle. An
incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are and where they fit in and
what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates influence your life without you
realizing it, it is determined it s peer pressure. Almost every child is victim to this idea of peer pressure
at some age or the other. It s an identity crisis, while also a constant comparison by parents and
teachers, that makes children follow the leader in terms of the social scale. Kids, being in the process
of forming an identity, needs the support and direction by those around them. The only way possible
of making your child strong enough to beat peer pressure is to help him build confidence and to treat
your growing child with respect and as an important individual that will make mistakes. The main
consequence of saying no to negative

Black rock, Nick Enright Essay
Today I ll be talking about the play Blackrock that I ve been studying in class this term, the purpose of
this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian culture
and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community.
Guys stick up for their mates no matter what
Blackrock is a play written by Nick Enright that provides insight into Australian culture. Through the
violent rape of a teenage girl, the audience is challenged to consider the values and attitudes still
prevalent in Australia today. Enright uses authentic and raw Australian characters to reveal inherent
patriarchal attitudes towards women and the problems with a society that promotes sexual double ...

The boy s in Blackrock often partake in risk taking behaviour in order to gain respect within their
group and this can lead to a detrimental gang mentality. In the third scene Jared reveals to his friend
Rachel why he is so loyal to his good friend Ricko. He s been my mate since forever... he says, with
the use of emotive dialogue and colloquial language. The authenticity conveyed through the emotive
and colloquial language shows the seemingly positive impact that Ricko has had on Jared. After his
Dad split he didn t have a male role model and was what he called a total fuck up or someone to guide
him in the hyper masculine world. He found security in Ricko and in return Jared defends Ricko at all
costs, this shows the encouraging aspects of mateship, where boys can find sense of belonging in their
friendships. However, Jared s idealisation of Ricko blinds him to the realities of his aggressive
personality.
The impact of mateship and how easy it is for somebody to be pressured into doing something just to
fit in is highlighted in scene six. Ricko forces a boy named Toby who has only recently been fixated
into the group into performing the ring of fire as the other Blackrock boys cheer him on. You re the
barbeque, mate. It is shown as a type of initiation for the Blackrock boys; Toby

Ritalin is a medication that is prescribed after diagnosis to offset its symptoms. As with most drugs, Ritalin has side effects, some of which are commonly associated with most pharmaceutical drugs but much more severe. Ritalin is a central Nervous system stimulant that affects ones central nervous system which controls cognition, thought processes and even regular breathing. Ritalin should be reconsidered as a remedy to either ADD or ADHD as the consequences of this medication can evolve into illegal drug use outside of what are common side effects. • 3. The Importance Of Crosswalks Every day Public Administration #3 The observed activity was crosswalks. Crosswalks enable pedestrians to cross busy and hazardous roadways more safely. Prior to the advent of crosswalks pedestrians would cross the street anywhere and were at risk of injury even by horse powered vehicles. This is important to Public Administration as it is a safety concern for the public. This paper will discuss the use, funding, government and citizen involvement, and how the chosen topic of crosswalks are related to Public Administration. Pedestrians are merely people traveling without a road based vehicle. Any person who would choose to become a pedestrian would very likely be using this service if they are abiding by the law. • 4. The Theory Of Cognitive Therapy Abstract The theory of Cognitive Therapy was Beck s initial therapy approach to depression. This paper will provide an overview of Cognitive Therapy and treatment modalities for depression, as well as the writer s personal view on counseling and cognitive therapy. Additionally, the paper will examine depression as a presenting problem and the use (application) of Cognitive Therapy theory to treating a person with depression. Cognitive Therapy Theory as Applied to Depression Review of Cognitive Therapy Theory Cognitive Therapy (CT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are used interchangeable. Cognitive therapy is a series of short term treatments that teaches specific skills. Aaron T. Beck is known as the founder of CT for depression in the 1960s and 70s, and he and some colleagues developed a full manual that described the treatment (DeRubeis, Siegle, Hollon, 2008, p. 789). Further, the authors indicates that in CT the role of the therapist is to teach the individual how to acquire the basic skills to recognize negative thoughts and images that causes the emotional experience and how to block out those thoughts and images that are believed to be the contributing factor (p. 789). Jarrett, Vittengl, Clark, and Thase (2011) implies that the purpose of CT is to teach a person to identify and modify relations between thoughts, feelings, and behavior so that it will help alleviate emotional distress. Hofmann, Asmundson and Beck (2013) indicates that CT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Collier County History Essay Collier County History Collier County was created as one of many new counties during the 1920 land boom and was named after Barron Gift Collier a businessman who had a vision for the growth and development of the southwestern coast of Florida. It is the state of Florida s 62nd county and in terms of total land area, it is the third largest in the state. It is even the birthplace of swamp buggy racing. Some of the first residents arrived centuries ago after migrating farther south after the end of the last Ice Age. However, the first permanent settlers did not arrive until the 1880 s when communities started to form along the respective Naples and Immokalee territories (Collier County Museum 2017). By 1920, numerous railroads and the infamous Tamiami Trail popped up in the heart of the swamp land, allowing for the expansion and development of the region. Quickly engineers and architects were constructing schools, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As one would expect, there are many differences in the services offered between the rural and urban parts of the county. In the cities, there are numerous hospitals, urgent cares, and specialty physician clinics lining the streets. There are gyms, golf courses, and organic food markets around every corner. • 6. Mary Shelly s The Novel Of Frankenstein The novel Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelly and was first published in 1818 anonymously. Then, revised edition of the novel was published with the preface written by her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelly. As, this novel was first published namelessly, many people thought that the man, who wrote the preface, Percy Shelly, was the author of the book. Consequently, there are few disagreements about the authorship of Frankenstein. Many people refuse to accept that Mary Shelly is the real author of Frankenstein. As per Mary, her husband has encouraged her to write this novel and has edited her novel as well. However, many people still question about the amount of contribution into the novel by Percy Shelly. Many critics claim that Frankenstein is a masterpiece. Then they question how an eighteen years old girl, who has self studied, could come up with this horror, imaginative and hideous ideas as in this novel. However, I disagree with all these beliefs and questions about the authorship of Frankenstein and I strongly believe that Mary Shelly is the only author of this novel. Firstly, Mary Shelly becomes familiar with the writings of the famous radical writers in her young age, which motivate her to write novels. The article by Wilson Quarterly highlights the ability of Mary Shelly to write novels at her early age and comments that, Mary Shelly, however was no ordinary 18 old girl. • 7. The Endangered Species Act and The Wildlife Conservation... When a species is endangered, how are they going to be saved? People, from all over the country, work together and perform tasks to help wildlife. Endangered means a species is close to extinction, and it is up to humanity to make the efforts needed to save wildlife from this tragedy. All it takes is a simple gesture in the right direction, like focusing on special rights that protect animals from being nonexistent. Many efforts have been made to protect endangered wildlife, such as, the Endangered Species Act, restoring habitats, and reducing wildlife threats. The purpose of the Endangered Species Act is to help imperiled species and the ecosystems in which they live. It is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Marine Fisheries Service. That means, that the Endangered Species Act has primary responsibility for terrestrial and freshwater organisms, as well as all land animals. This law protects the rights of wildlife, so it assures the protection from poaching, and all forms of hunting. Also, for the purposes of the Act, Congress defined species to include subspecies, and different varieties (Endangered). Benefits of the Endangered Species Act include, the protection of wildlife and critical habitats, as well as other bonuses. It creates jobs for wildlife dependent communities and the communities that support and sponsor the Act, by exposing ecosystems to new natural resources. Another benefit is that it protects ... • 8. Sports And Consumerism In Sports Decades have passed and with time comes change, it should not come as a shock that as a society we ve grown and developed. The way we consume sports, its mechanisms, and the culture behind it, has changed outstandingly. The effects that media has had on the sporting industry and consumerism in the past two decades have been tremendous. The development of high definition tv s, live streamed sporting events, video games, and even social media, has globalized sport and transformed the way fans and athletes interact. This transformation from conventional sports consumerism to modern day has come as a great shock to many. Stephen Brunt s article Sports Consumption Will Undergo Revolution in the Decade Ahead focuses on how the landscape of the sporting industry will be profoundly transformed, not only in the games and the athletes themselves but in the way we consume them as entertainment. Brunt s argument on how the new modern tools that have been developed (in association with sports) have changed his view of the all American dream of sports consumerism, is outdated. We do not agree with Brunt s arguments towards the future of sports consumption, and the supposedly negative effects that will come in regards to future generations. On the contrary, David J. Leonard New Media and Global Sporting Cultures: Moving Beyond the Clichés and Binaries contradict Brunt s argument by stating To the skeptics who simply refuse to acknowledge the impact of new media technologies, who ... • 9. Symbolism In A Young Goodman Brown Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a story based around real events that took place during the seventeenth century. Goodman Brown is exposed to the real world and what may be the true identity of the people around him. After seeing the truth, Goodman Brown does not know who he can truly trust. Although Brown loves his wife and is strong in his faith, he begins to question himself and everything around him. This story is written with foreshadowing, symbolism, and point of view. In the story, A Young Goodman Brown , Nathanial Hawthorne uses true events to portray how life can sometimes be confusing and a lie. Nathanial Hawthorn was born on July 4th 1804 and he died on May 19th 1864. His home life helped him create this great story. His father died and left him and his siblings with his stepmother. Nathanial took life events and created a beautiful story making people question do you really know a person. This story really never tells if the vision Goodman Brown has is true or just a nightmare. Many of the characters have small roles that are very significant to the end of the story. Nathanial s characters are flat, with little to no detail. The information given about the characters was not a great amount. Faith is one of the first characters shown in the short story. She is a very important key to the story because Goodman Brown loves her so. Hawthorne based A Young Goodman Brown on many true events. • 11. The Importance Of Stereotyping How Negative Stereotypes can be Harmful A stereotype is a cognitive shortcut that allows the brain to make snap judgments based on immediately visible characteristics such as gender, race, or age (Bolton). It could often lead to incomplete assumptions about other people based on characteristics within a specific group of people. For example, the stereotype that girls are bad at math can lead to the suggestion that some innate difference between women and men leads to this discrepancy (Bolton). Stereotyping can be negative because it can affect the way people are treated based on race, social class, and gender. Prejudice against members of other social classes leads to fear of unwanted influences by the other groups. For example, people of higher status do not generally mix with lower status people and often are able to control other people s activities by influencing laws and social standards ( Social Class Prejudice ). The first one is the most popular: a housewife obsessed by a steam on a new tablecloth or a woman whose main problem is lack of ideas for dinner (Wolska). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is an important statement. The other services, the interagencies are dependent on the Army to provide support to their actions. So as we look to the Army of 2020, as a part of Joint Force 2020, how do we want to shape it? Today, we are an Army that is globally engaged in 150 countries on six of seven continents. We have over 95,000 Soldiers deployed in support of operations; another 96,000 Soldiers forward stationed. Our strategic posture is a testament to our flexibility and adaptability as well as our unmatched credibility as the best trained, best equipped, and best led land force in the world. Moving forward, our Army s primary purpose is steadfast and resolute: to fight and win our Nation s wars. But we all know that the Army must be able to do much more than that. Today, we require an Army that is adaptive and innovative, flexible and agile, integrated and synchronized, lethal and discriminate. Even more critical in today s complex and uncertain environment, the Army is the decisive arm of the Joint Force in a broad range of missions. Historically the Army has been focused on a specific set of needs, but these needs and the means in which they are resourced have changed. So we must fundamentally change how we do business. As we keep adding rocks to our Soldiers rucksacks, all leaders must remain cognizant over time. Everyone s load can get too heavy and cause permanent wear and tear. So it is a good idea to ... • 16. The Concepts Of Separate Personality And Limited Liability... This essay will explain the concepts of separate personality and limited liability and their significance in company law. The principle of separate personality is defined in the Companies Act 2006(CA) ; subscribers to the memorandum, together with such other persons as may from time to time become members of the company are a body corporate by the name contained in memorandum. This essentially means that a company is a separate legal personality to its members and therefore can itself be sued and enter into contracts. This theory was birthed into company law through the case of Salomon v Salomon and Co LTD 1872. This case involved a company entering liquidation and the unsecured creditors not being able to claim assets to compensate them. The issue in this case was whether Mr Salomon owed the money or the company did. In the end, the House of Lords held that the company was not an agent of Mr Salomon and so the debts were that of the company thus creating the corporate Veil . It seems understandable that a business should exist as a separate legal personality as it would be impossible for an individual s motives and goals to be perfectly in line with that of the company as is demonstrated above in Salomon. Following this theory the idea that the rights and duties of a company are not that of its members and shareholders as demonstrated in the case of Lee v Lee Air Farming . However there is some case when the innocent party can ask for divorce or decide to stay with the guilty person. Research Conclusion: My research question was: When it s appropriate for a spouse to ask for divorce? This question comes in my mind because when I was a Pastor in the Southern Conference in Haiti there is one of my colleagues get divorce with his wife without the ground of adultery. The wife is the one who ask for divorce because she said she didn t see herself as a pastor s wife and want to live her life without any restriction. The executive committee knew about this issue and they decided to layoff the Pastor, even he has nothing to do regarding this divorce. During the excerpt he uses metaphors and talks about what he doesn t like. One of the central ideas in the excerpt is about the chopping seas. Walden says chopping sea of civilized life which is calling the civilized life a chopping sea. He also says, clouds and storms and quicksands are the things that humans have to suffer through their everyday lives. My reaction to this quote is that he seems really depressed. • 21. Self Concept Is Our Self Identity Essay Self concept is our self identity, and is the way that one perceives itself, it includes both attitudes and the collection of beliefs. Self Concept also branches out into self image and self esteem. Self image, is the way the person pictures itself. The self esteem is the way we evaluate ourselves. We identify ourselves by our communication, and our interactions with others. In other words I think, therefore I am (René Descartes; ego cogito, ergo sum ) If a person was to tell another person what they think they look like, odds are that that person may view himself as what the other person thinks/views him as. It could either raise or lower the self esteem of the person, it could also enhance the way we view ourselves, depending on the type of people the person associates, communicates and experience interactions with them. If a person associates himself or herself with educated people, he or she will most likely feel respected. If he or she associates with people of less morals, odds are that that person may just have a lower self esteem and self image compared to the person that hangs around overall good people. It is believed that developing a self concept is essential to perform well in the work place. A work place involves a constant interaction between its workers and environment, communication. • 27. Philip Augustus s Success Of The Angevin s Failure Was Philip Augustus success linked to the Angevin s failure? Philip Augustus undoubtedly faced weak Angevin opposition. However, it was the economic, administrative and ideological changes that had taken place in Capetian France, which were the real driving force behind Philip s success. John s comparative weakness and poor leadership credentials made Capetian success even more likely, but did not make it inevitable. Philip had to harness the French economy and win the support of his nobility. He was so successful in these endeavors that he would have been a match for any 12th century European power. The strength of the Capetian economy was one of the most important factors in Philip s success. Philip personally was very interested in developing Paris. He built Les Halles as a market place, paved many streets and invested heavily in infrastructure. The creation of a large market place and better transportation meant that the economy picked up and Paris became wealthier. This meant that Philip could call on Paris for financial support when he went on crusade. Assarting and the creation of communes furthered strengthened Philip s economy. Between 1150 and 1180 the forests of Othen and Orleans were cleared, and over 40 new villages created in their wake.1 As Hallam pointed out, the king allowed these villages to be created and granted them special privileges in exchange for rent being paid directly to the crown. The mother understands that their son, Moti, has no passion for the family livelihood but Yitzhak takes the decision badly. And thus ends the hopes of all good dreams; the father s desire to pass on his father s business is doomed by his son s utter disinterest. Here is a kid who has no love of turkeys, no desire to learn the trade and no appreciation of the art of poultry manufacture. The Japanese soldiers went into people s homes searching for Chinese soldiers, and killing civilians. These devastating events are known as the Rape of Nanking , or as the Nanking Massacre. However, the history of atrocities like this are not always taught. Things such as the Japanese history textbook controversy show how one event can be remembered, or portrayed, in many different ways. For the most part, history can be skewed for political reasons. For Japan, making history their own had benefits, and these benefits could help the government keep their people on their side of things, and it would try to legitimize their own views on their history. The forming of loyalty and patriotism through selective teachings of the Nanking Massacre has built tensions between China and Japan that have, and still do, separate two nations. The history, which is taught correctly in most nations, is horrifying. The Nanking Massacre lasted for a span of a few months, with Japanese soldiers sparing no man, woman or child. The title Rape of Nanking is to describe the raping of women, numbering anywhere from 20,000 to 80,000 . As part of the limbic system, the hippocampus is associated with the formation of new memories, as well as the process of learning and regulation of emotions. One of the primary responsibilities that the hippocampus is known for is its ability to turn short term memories into long term memories. According to Kalat (2013), the hippocampus is also important to processing three types of memory, including declarative memory (and episodic memory), spatial memory, and contextual memory. In studying patients with hippocampal damage, research has shown that the hippocampus is in fact important to learning to new facts, skills, and utilizing episodic memory (Kalat, 2013). Another hypothesis regarding the importance of the hippocampus relates to the ability to learn context. Essentially, it is hypothesized that being able to learn certain context relies on details that are remembered via the hippocampus. Recollection of memories, particularly more recent ones, relies on the hippocampus. However, Kalat (2013) also states that as time passes, memory becomes less detailed, less dependent on the hippocampus, and more dependent on the cerebral cortex (p. 401). Finally, spatial memory refers to the ability of the brain to record specific information about the layout or closeness of stimuli within one s general environment. Researchers have been able to study the effects of the hippocampus on spatial memory through tests using such techniques as the radial maze or the Morris water maze. Their findings provide evidence of increased activity in the hippocampus during focus in spatial memories, as well as response learning. It is suggested that it is involved in associating together information usually originating from different cortical regions, for example, about objects and their place in the spatial ... The second section of the essay I will focus on what I have identified as the hidden curriculum during my teaching practice experience. In my conclusion I will address the hidden curriculum in order to redress the concern I have identified. The hidden curriculum is lessons that we as educators teach informally or unintentionally at school. Learners will learn unintended values, beliefs, behaviours and norms in the classroom and the social learning environment (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). They may learn how to interact with other learners for example debates and class discussions and group work. Hidden curriculum will initially begin at a young age for learners. Adenovirus is the most common virus associated with acute pharyngitis. Although, there are other associated viruses, which includes Epstein Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus, influenza virus, parainfluenza, herpes simplex virus, enterovirus, and human immunodeficiency virus (Burns et al., 2013). Adaptation Private Oliver Wilcox Norton first sounded the notes of taps in 1862 (Schneider, 2002). Only moments before the call for lights out, Butterfield presented Wilcox the notes for his new melody. With little practice, Wilcox stood above the camp and began to play Butterfields version of taps. This beautiful melody quickly spread throughout the Union Army. Often, southern troops were so close they could hear the trumpet and soon adapted Butterfields taps. After being adapted for lights out, this melody replaced three cannon volleys to honor a soldier s burial. Cannons exhaust a large plume of smoke when fired and troops that did not want to expose their position adapted taps in place of cannon volleys. Meaning Battle is an exhausting effort and uncertainty clutters the minds of soldiers in time of chaos. A soothing melody played over a battle fatigued camp offers comfort. Day is done, gone the sun, words taken from the lyrics to taps, reminds people they have survived the hardships of the day. All is well, safely rest; God is nigh, assures people that it is safe to rest and they can be comforted that their God is near. Iago By William Shakespeare s Othello Iago is able to manipulate different characters throughout Othello by appearing to be honest and trustworthy, and using this to make people believe what he is saying is the truth. This means that Iago can tell them what he wants, in order to achieve whatever he desires. Simply, Iago is a two faced character. A very ironic part of the play is when Iago says, By Janus , as Janus is a two faced Roman god. The first person/character is Rodrigo. Rodrigo is blinded by his love for Desdemona and is prepared to try anything to win her heart. This makes him an easy target for Iago, as Rodrigo will do anything to get what he wants, Desdemona. Rodrigo is initially upset with Iago, as he has paid Iago to encourage a marriage between him and Desdemona, but instead Desdemona had married Othello. However, Iago easily restores Rodrigo s faith in him by saying his hatred for Othello he says with erratic words, like despise me, I do not when Rodrigo asks if he hates Othello. • 47. Impact Of Pollution On Ozone Depletion Jamie Kanzler Extended Essay: What is the impact of pollution on ozone depletion? Section 1: Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon dioxide. Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans have caused the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called pollutants. A pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a concentration greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many different pollutants exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their toxicity to vary. Generally, pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary pollutants. A primary pollutant is a chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common primary pollutants include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. A volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that participates in a photochemical reaction in the atmosphere. The second type of pollutant, a secondary pollutant, is produced when primary pollutants go through a chemical reaction with environmental constituents in the atmosphere. Mean Girls Sociology Essay Stacey Smith 2/14/2013 Sociology 101 George Kinder Movies And Their Messages In the movie Mean Girls, released in April of 2004, you see the traditional story about the new girl in school and the stereotypes that engulf the adolescent environment. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, shows us what life at a corrupted school could be like for teens that are not so familiar with the American ways of socialization and surviving the potentially threatening lifestyle it could lead on. Sadly, children succumb to it as a result of a dire need to fit in. In the film, we re first introduced with the impression that high schoolers and the staff are super strict and have no sympathy for the new students. As it subtly resembles almost a ... As the teachers could care less about what s going on in their kids love lives, the kids mostly think of it as the center of their life at the time. A level of maturity and irresponsibility come in with these thoughts and priorities. Cady also finds herself making small references back to her original home, Africa. She sees the other students as simple jungle animals in the wild, survival of the fittest at its best. That s probably the best metaphor someone could compare high school to, a jungle. An incontrollable area where children have to grow up and find out who they are and where they fit in and what they should do. When peers such as your friends or classmates influence your life without you realizing it, it is determined it s peer pressure. Almost every child is victim to this idea of peer pressure at some age or the other. It s an identity crisis, while also a constant comparison by parents and teachers, that makes children follow the leader in terms of the social scale. Kids, being in the process of forming an identity, needs the support and direction by those around them. The only way possible of making your child strong enough to beat peer pressure is to help him build confidence and to treat your growing child with respect and as an important individual that will make mistakes. Black rock, Nick Enright Essay Today I ll be talking about the play Blackrock that I ve been studying in class this term, the purpose of this speech is to make us think how Australian drama challenges us to think about Australian culture and identity, and the impacts it can have on us as person and as a community. Guys stick up for their mates no matter what Blackrock is a play written by Nick Enright that provides insight into Australian culture. Through the violent rape of a teenage girl, the audience is challenged to consider the values and attitudes still prevalent in Australia today. In the third scene Jared reveals to his friend Rachel why he is so loyal to his good friend Ricko. He s been my mate since forever... he says, with the use of emotive dialogue and colloquial language. The authenticity conveyed through the emotive and colloquial language shows the seemingly positive impact that Ricko has had on Jared. After his Dad split he didn t have a male role model and was what he called a total fuck up or someone to guide him in the hyper masculine world. He found security in Ricko and in return Jared defends Ricko at all costs, this shows the encouraging aspects of mateship, where boys can find sense of belonging in their friendships. However, Jared s idealisation of Ricko blinds him to the realities of his aggressive personality. The impact of mateship and how easy it is for somebody to be pressured into doing something just to fit in is highlighted in scene six.
