What Were The Pros Of The Vikings
By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery
after another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much
chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham
Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and
vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions
were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder
seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us
aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a
certain stereotype of their being wild, rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history.
They became notorious for being merciless barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. But were they
really like that? To what extent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They practiced quite a humanistic approach towards the criminals. The criminals were either
banished or imposed with a financial compensation: no death sentence was implemented. The
Alping was an effective foundation of a further national government. Besides the political and law
issues, the Alping dealt with commercial and trade issues as well. (Short, 2010) Along with being
good warriors and accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham
Campbell, 1980). The Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For
instance, Irish architecture and sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English
vocabulary is full of Norse words, etc. (Short, 2010). Such evidence contribute much to the positive
construction and interchange rather than violence and destruction attributed to the

Davidian Compound
On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms launched a raid on the
Davidian Compound just outside of Waco, Texas, not knowing that it would lead to a 51 day
standoff, the compound burning to the ground, and the loss of many lives, including four ATF
agents. The Branch Davidians are a religious group that resulted from a breakoff in the Davidian
Seventh day Adventist Church in 1955. As the group gained members, the leaders decided to move
the church just outside of Waco, Texas, to a place they named Mount Carmel, after a mountain in
Israel mentioned in Joshua 19:26. Their leader at the time, Florence Houteff, then prophesied that
the Second Coming of Jesus was approaching, and ordered the members to stay at the center...

However, while the siege was over, it was not forgotten. On April 19, 1995, two years after the
fire that killed so many people, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols planted a bomb that killed
168 people, injured more than 680 people, and whose blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings
within a sixteen block radius of Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Motivated by his hatred of the government and the outrage he felt about the Waco Siege in 1993,
McVeigh decided to time his attack for the second anniversary of the deadly fire. Forensic
evidence linked both men to the attack. On June 11, 2001, McVeigh was executed by lethal
injection and Nichols was sentenced to life in prison in 2004. The Oklahoma City Bombing was
the worst terrorist attack on United States soil until September 11, 2001. The siege at Waco will
forever be remembered not only in the history books, but also by the families of the four ATF
agents that were killed. Thanks to the bravery and sacrifice of
those four men, the FBI has developed new, improved tactics of dealing with hostage situations,
many of which have saved

Leaders In Samurai s Tale
Three admirable leaders in samurai s tale are Yoichi, Togan, and the charcoal burner family.
Although Yoichi was the servant of Murakami and Murakami of Akiyama, Togan a cook for
Akiyama s lower class servants, and the Charcoal Burner Family a poor family contempt with
helping Murakami. They were better leaders than the people in charge, who were supposed to be
leaders/ lead.
The charcoal burner family was very kind, helpful, and were content with helping Murakami.
They gave him one of the best spots in their house, fed him, and welcomed him although they
were poor. I was made welcome and given warm food and a place near the brazier. (p.218).
Giving the best you can give to another person, is portrayed in this. It s important to want the best
for others so that you can try understanding them more, instead of trying to overcome them. They
also insisted on protecting him on his way to Lord Akiyama s father s home. Sending their eldest
son, even, to accompany him. He loaded their horse with bags of charcoal and I hid my swords

Describe The Story Of Nabucco
Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time
in 1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published
edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the
work. The second story of Nabuccoagain appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five
act ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and
performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian
Emperor Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of
Austrian domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario,
and it was with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera.
The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the
story of Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for
purposes of song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Show more content on

Viewed on a more complex level, the symbolism of Nabucco offers an intricate relationship between
the characters and political events. In this view, King Nabucodonosor might represent Napoleon,
and his two daughters, one legitimate, symbolizing Italy, and another illegitimate Austria. The
Babylonian religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic
Church. The parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to
discern: the opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the
Hebrews slaves represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian

The Failure To Obey The Law
The law is a system of rules that govern the people in the country or community making them
responsible for their actions. Failure to oblige by these rules is punishable, and a penalty is
always enforced on the people who do not obey the law. The law also consists of the procedures
that should be followed for the people to live responsibly and also what should be done on those
who do not follow the rules. As provided in the U.S Constitution under the Eight Amendment, a
bail consists of the amount of money that a defendant should pay in order to be released out of the
custody until the day of his or her trial. The bail is not used as a punishment to the defendant. The

People mostly have a right to bail except capital cases in 40 state constitutions. There are a few
reasons why bail is significantly important to a defendant. First, it gives the individual time to
wait for their trial outside the jail cell. Without bail, the defendant would have to await their trail
but stay in jail for a number of months. It wouldn t seem fair for someone to spend time in jail if
they are presumed not guilty in the near future. Second, bail gives the defendant time to spend
with their lawyer, so they carefully prepare for the upcoming trial. Statistically, people generally
are convicted and sentenced more when they don t make bail compared to the ones that do make
bail (Lippman 2015). Families with a low income suffer the most because they may not have
enough to pay 10 percent fee. Most importantly, bail gives the individual time to spend with their

Blanche is Responsible for her own Fate in a Street Car...
This essay will describe whether or not Blanches unfortunate eventual mental collapse was due
to her being a victim of the society she went to seek comfort in, or if she was solely or at least
partly responsible. The factors and issues that will be discussed include, Blanches deceitful
behaviour and romantic delusions which may have lead to her eventual downfall, the role Stanley
ended up playing with his relentless investigations of her past and the continuous revelations of it,
the part society and new America played in stifling her desires and throwing her into a world she
could not relate to or abide by. Firstly, the reader may initially feel Blanche is completely

She flirts with many men and young adults throughout the play, which makes the reader feel a
lack of sympathy for her as the men she desired ended up becoming major contributors to her
eventual downfall, in particular Stanley. The reader may view Blanche as someone who tried to
escape her sordid past in Laurel and wanted to start a new life with her sister, yet due to the
continuous investigations from Stanley, was unable to do so. Stanley reveals Blanches lies and
deceits, commenting on them as her same old act, same old hooey! This tells the reader that his
research of Blanches past is way of stopping her from finding a new life. Blanche attempts to
redeem her life by finding love with Mitch, yet Stanley again reveals to Mitch that she was not
straight , resulting in Mitch not wanting to be with her and also contributing to her fate. Stanley,
after mercilessly divulging all her truths and bringing her to the edge of her mental capacity, rapes
Blanche which brought about her final collapse. The reader may view Stella as someone at blame
for her sisters fate, as though she shows some moral support of Blanches situation and listens to
what she has to say, Stella continuously throughout the play neglects to notice Blanches slow
mental deterioration and ignores Blanches outcries and incessant need for attention. Stella chooses
Stanley over Blanche, despite her warnings about him being volatile, violent and sub human which

Analysis Of The Poem Anastrophe Elegy By Rebecca Foust
The poem Anastrophe Elegy by Rebecca Foust tells the story of a woman who falls madly in love
with a man. This woman, was the it girl she was talented, smart, beautiful, and athletic. She had
many different roles in peoples lives such as girlfriend, wife, mother, friend, coach and many more.
However, she met a man whom she falls in lovewith. As a result of love she gives her all to him.
She went above and beyond for this man giving up much of herself to make sure he was happy.
After spending much of her time and money for the man she loved, he ups and leaves her. When
the love of her life left, he not only left with himself but he left with a part of her. The persona says
that the woman was not the same after he left. Throughout the poem there is a sense of grief
brought on from this tragic relationship and the unwarranted results of the relationship. Although
the woman in the story did not die, her spirit did die when the love of her life left. Therefore, the
theme of sadness is shown in this poem through the anastrophe structure, stylechoice of an elegy,
and the mood. Firstly, the theme of sadness is presented through the structure of an Anastrophe.
When it comes to poetry, the structure it is presented is very important. The structure of a poem can
determine the rhythm. Furthermore, it can make a poem sound fast pace, slow, anxious or calm.
The structure controls how one may read the poem or even perceive the poem. The author chooses
to write the poem in the form

Compare And Contrast Roosevelt And Woodrow Wilson
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both innovative, progressive presidents. Many of
their policies were similar, focusing on reform, destruction of monopolies and trusts, and improving
conditions of the common American through policy change in Washington. However, both
presidents are remembered in different lights and for vastly different reasons.
Theodore Roosevelt unquestionably had the bigger positive impact on American idealism, as he is
commemorated on Mount Rushmore and considered one of the five great American presidents.
Roosevelt was the naturalist responsible for our national parks, but his policies on military and
war were contradictory to the sensitivities he displayed toward nature. Roosevelt led the Rough
Riders in the Spanish American War, and led the country similarly. Believing in the nationalist
sentiment of creating a sense of pride in American conquest, Roosevelt campaigned for the
annexation of Hawaii, took control of Cuba, and instituted his policy of speak softly, but carry a

preserve American life when Germany began targeting passenger ships carrying American
citizens. When America entered the war and helped a achieve a quick, decisive victory for the
Allies, he was hailed overseas as the hero from the West. His creation of The League of Nations,

Anglo Saxon Heroic Deeds Meaning
In Anglo Saxon culture, it is very important to be remembered. The only way to be remembered
was to perform a heroic deed that was later recited as a poem to a large group of people on
multiple occasions. They turned these stories into poems so it was easier for the storyteller to
remember it and Bards would recite these to people for centuries so it was very important for
people to become a hero or cause a major change to be part of these stories and remembered
forever. The definition of a hero now versus the definition of a hero in the Anglo Saxon time
period isn t much different but the definition of what is a heroic deed is much different. In
modern day culture, a good example of a heroic deed would be a firefighter, someone risking
their lives to save others. In Anglo Saxon culture, a good example of a heroic deed would be to
kill someone who is harmful, someone risking their lives to save others. Notice how each person
the firefighter or the warrior they both risked their lives to save others but in modern day
someone killing someone for others isn t really a hero. Because of an existing judicial system,
heroes only save people instead of sacrificing and killing others. Heros during Anglo Saxon were
the judicial system and were responsible for punishment which meant sacrificing terrible people
to save others. In our modern day culture, a hero is someone who stands up and fights for a

Traditional Voting In America
Introduction Most democratic societies are fueled by the power of the people and when the
opportunity to use that power is removed you should expect rash repercussions. History has
displayed that time and time again. America being the long time democratic leader of the free
world has seen many instances where groups within the population felt like their votingrights weren
t being respected. America as a nation has slightly overcame those struggles but currently there are
still many obstacles between the average voter and actually casting a vote. Many problems include
lack of time, lack of convenience, lack of knowledge, and more. To combat this we have explored
the alternatives to the traditional voting in a booth method that is so popular... Show more content

Many jobs require people to travel thus disqualifying them from voting where they are registered.
People with disabilities have a hard time getting to the polls and are not always given special
accommodation from the government in order to ensure they are able to vote. It is also
inconvenient for elderly people to get the polls in order to vote for things that directly affect them.
Because of this, issues regarding raising minimum wage for the working class, rights for people
with disabilities, and Social Security are not reflected in the polls. In a democratic society, it is
important to have representation of all citizens. Unfortunately, the current voting system is a way to
subconsciously disenfranchise certain

behavior compared to a straight beam. Some of the problems that curved girder faced are
torsion, flange lateral bending, lack of stability and buildability concern. However, nowadays
curved skewed I girder bridges are used widespread and have a specific percentage of total.
Horizontal curved/skewed I girder bridge has advantages in saving material and simplifying
structure by curving along roads and reduce intermediate supports.

Heroic As A Hero
What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the
word heroic, I think of my dad. My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is
alway reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding
and humble. He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town
of Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year
of 2010, the sun was shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when
my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her
phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was
about my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me
come home right away. When I got home he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around
me and held me so very closely. That life changing day, has made my dad and I more closer.
Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is
he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In our town of Manton, my dad has been
a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member. Along with that, he has been a
great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass Festival, Harvest Festival,
and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal time to help others that
are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist changed from
employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or have
medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on
his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it
makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For
not only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes
usually there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you
let your sassiness out, or maybe you fail a test because you didn t study. Those

Mad Max Road Warrior And Warrior Road Analysis
Mad Max; Road Warrior and Fury Road are Australian dystopian films directed by George Miller.
The two films were released, with 34 years between them, allowing the audience to explore the
different representations of stereotypes and ideologies in each time period. To a certain extent, the
characters in each film contrast with one another, displaying a change in social and political
context, specifically with the concept of feminism. This is due to the changes of media content as
society has progressed.
The 1980 s was a time for womens liberation, to a large extent there was a change in the areas of,
health, work, law, education and welfare, redressing the issues of equality in Australia. Planned

Big Rebecca does not reinforce the stereotype, she is an elderly women yet seen as a figure of
importance. Her ideas and blessings are considered by the tribe as she is the voice of reason and
promotes to save her tribe from Lord Humungus . The Women Warrior challenges and reinforces
the representation of a female in a action film. A attractive, fierce, well equipped young woman
who stays moral to her tribe. In the first scene in which features the Women Warrior, it is evident
she is disappointed in the actions of Max when he demands for oil, she tells the leader give him
nothing turning to Max and says trading human flesh, you must be trash . The woman warrior is
seen as vigorous yet this differs when she is murdered by an arrow in the chest, slumping over
maxes car in the battle against the enemy. The Women s liberation did contribute to the content of
media in the 1980 s, although the ideology of men being superior and more dominant were still
there, evident through the character of Max.
In todays society, the second wave of feminism develops and the way in which society perceives
and understand it has shifted to becoming a trend . Yet, today we see the most amount of change
in history. Women, today are allowed to become whatever they desire, if that includes a doctor or
even an astronaut, higher roles are granted. Fathers are choosing the role of a housewife , today it

Passing and Human Relationships
Passing and Human Relationships
The Harlem Renaissance was a turning point for many African Americans. A vast amount of
literature was created specifically for this group during this era. For the first time, African
Americans were being told that it was okay to be proud of who they were. This new consciousness
and self awareness was prominent in many works of literature, but several writers began exploring
the darker side of this movement with literature that concentrated on the negative aspects of race
relations in America. Nella Larsen s novel Passing concentrates on this theme with the story of
Clare, a tragic mulatto who passes as a white person. Not only is Passing representative of the plight

The fact that she has to deny her identity in order to feel safe eventually leads to her realization
that her life has become a lie. Clare tells Irene that she nearly died of terror the whole nine months
before Margery (her daughter) was born for fear that she might be dark (Larsen 168). Her husband
nicknamed her Nig, because she gets darker each day.
Although Clare s desire to return to the African Americancommunity outwardly seemed merely
whimsical, inwardly, Irene begins to see something groping, and hopeless, and yet so absolutely
determined inside this woman (Larsen 200). Clare will stop at nothing to leave the life she once
desired in order to re enter the African American community. Clare begins to realize that her
desire to return to her African American heritage overshadows any disaster it may cause. In
order to get the things she wants badly enough, she d do anything, hurt anybody, throw anything
away (Larsen 210). In reality, Clare s ultimate loss of soul is realized in the fact that she is
willing to forsake her family, including her daughter, in order to reclaim her racial identity. This,
not her eventual death, becomes Clare s ultimate tragedy. She loses something of her own soul
living in the world of white men. Clare feels that society forces her to abandon her family simply
because part of her is African American. The fact that Clare pretends to be white in order to

The two sides of this case were the plaintiffs, who were five abortion clinics and doctors who
provided abortion services, and the defendant, which was the state of Pennsylvania. The plaintiffs
filed suit to have the state declare the five provisions unconstitutional. During the appeal in the
Third Circuit Court, the court upheld all but the husband notification requirement.
Casey is a divided judgement because none of the Justices opinions were joined by a majority of
Justices. However, the plurality decision, which was written by Justices Souter, O Connor, and
Kennedy, is accepted a the lead opinion because each of its parts were agreed with by at least two
other Justices , although different ones for each part. The plurality opinion overturned the strict
trimester formula previously used in Roe vs. Wade which then made it a shorter time period before
the State s interest in the fetus outweighed the woman s interest to abort. The plurality opinion also
got rid of the husband notification requirement, saying that it would worsen situations of spousal
abuse because it would give husbands too much power over their wives.
William Rehnquist, Byron White, Harry Blackmun, John Paul Stevens, Antonin Scalia, and Clarence
Thomas those who were not included in the plurality decision wrote or joined opinions in which
they partially concurred and partially dissented from the decision.

A Brief Note On Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Introduction and background
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure performed on patients with
coronary artery disease to improve their survival and quality of life. (1) It remains to be the gold
standard treatment for patients requiring multivessel coronary revascularization despite recent
advances in medical therapies and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). (2) There are two
forms of CABG. Traditionally, CABG is performed with a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB)
machine (aka heart lung machine or the pump ) which maintains circulation while the heart is
temporarily stopped. (1) This creates a bloodless and motionless operating field for the surgeons.
(3) The body is then weaned from CPB and the heart is restarted with the completion of grafting.
(1) Alternatively, a relatively newer technique called off pump CABG or beating heart surgery can
be performed. With this procedure, CPB is not utilized and the surgeon grafts the bloodvessel on
the pumping heart after the area around the blocked coronary artery is stabilized. (1)
Ever since the introduction of off pump CABG, clinicians all over the world have been interested
in finding out whether off pump CABG can help patients avoid the deleterious effects associated
with CPB and a large amount of research has been undertaken to investigate the potential
advantages of off pump CABG over the conventional on pump CABG. Adequate knowledge in this
field will allow surgeons to select an optimal surgical

The plant budgeting begins with me and my staff determining what a plant s quota (in pairs of
pants) for each month should be for one year ahead of time. We look at the plant s past
performance and add a little to this because we expect people to improve around here. These
yearly budgets are updated at the end of each month in light of the previous month s production.
If a plant manager beats this budget figure, we feel he has done a good job. If he cannot meet
the quota, his people have not been working at what the engineers feel is a very reasonable level
of speed and efficiency. Or possibly absenteeism or worker turnover, big problems in our plants,
have been excessively high. When the quota has not been reached, we want to know why and
want the problem corrected as quickly as we can. Given the number of pants that a plant actually
produces in a month, we can determine the number of standard labour hours allowed for that
month. We compare this figure against the 3 actual labour hours to determine how a plant manager
performed as an expense centre. I phone every plant manager each month to give prompt feedback
on either satisfactory or unsatisfactory performance. We also look for other things in evaluating a
plant manager. Have his community relations been good? Are his employees happy? The owners of
this company are very concerned about these factors. An annual bonus constituted the core of Bell

The Dropped Sales Of Cereal
The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making
All In One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the
consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante,
2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the
increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch
to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many
companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales
are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the
cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults
choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the
lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40
percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean
up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell,
2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to another breakfast not because they
don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it and clean up. Thus, when my All

The Responsibility Of 911 Attacks
Have you ever think of the US should take the responsibility of 911 attacks? September 11
attacks, the deadliest terrorist attack in world history, were a series of airline hijacking by
nineteen militants of an Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda. The hijackers, along with the suicide
bombers, seized four US commercial jets and crashed them into US s landmarks, Twins tower of
World Trader Center and the Pentagon, at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2011. The notorious Al Qaeda
chief Osama bin Laden masterminded the attacks. According to CNN News, the September 11
attackskilled 2,966 people and injured more than 6,000 citizens in New York City (CNN).
Moreover, as reported by Health Department WTC s Health Registry, the attacks brought on the
post traumatic stress disorder, and they concluded that 1,140 people who worked near the
Manhattan and the New York City at the time are diagnosed with cancer caused by exposure to
toxins at Ground Zero (Bendix). On September 11, President George W Bush addressed a

Literature Review On Teachers Using Inquiry-Based...
There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based
instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However,
most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit
plans and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Doing unit plans and
lessons with an inquiry based approach works very well because of limited time elementary
teachers have. A lot of times teacher can create integrated or cross curricular unit plans, which
helps meet the demands of the curriculum. Developed in the 1960 s, many teachers see inquiry

with each other. One serious brawl that happened between the two was that Jack tried to

the company to fame. Jack s plan didn t work due to his death in 1955 at the age of 67. A few years

I like the word perspective because it means a particular attitude toward something; a point of view.
A life coach is traditionally characterized as someone who counsels and encourages clients on
matters having to do with career or personal challenges; counseling often defined as a form of

Although timely advice can be useful, many of us already have a number of well meaning people

Focus keyword: outdoor dining Meta description: Title: Blog post: (photo?) The dining table has
become an iconic gathering place for decades. It s where people come to be together, share in a
meal and connect over conversation. Dinner time is a special time to bond, to relax, to build
memories, and enjoy. The dining table has become a universal symbol of togetherness, and in South
Florida, we like to take that tradition outside. There are so many options for dining al fresco, and so
many opportunities to enjoy it. Dining tables symbolize community, unity, celebration and so much
more. Taking all those symbols to the outdoors only maximizes the effect. Add the sun, the breeze,
and all the fun of the outdoors can make any gathering

Surface Area Volume Ratio Experiment
Surface area / Volume ratio Experiment
Introduction:
The surface area to volume ratio in living organisms is very important. Nutrients and oxygen
need to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells are no longer than 1mm
in diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell quickly and
allow waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. If the cells were any bigger than this then it would
take too long for the nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell so the cell would probably not
survive. Single celled organisms can survive as they have a large enough surface area to allow all
the oxygen and nutrients they need to diffuse through. Larger multi celled organisms need specialist

Interpretation:
In all the blocks of gelatin the rate of penetration of the hydrochloric acid from each side would
have been the same but all the blocks take different amounts of time to clear because they are
different sizes. As the blocks get bigger it takes longer for the hydrochloric acid to diffuse through
the entire block and so clear the dye. It takes longer to reach the centre of the cube even though the
rate of diffusion is the same for all the cubes.
As the volume of the blocks goes up the Surface Area / Volume ratio goes down. The larger blocks
have a smaller proportion of surface area than the smaller blocks.
When the surface area to volume ratio goes down it takes longer for the hydrochloric acid to
diffuse into the cube but if the ratio goes up then the hydrochloric acid diffuses more quickly into
the block of gelatin. Some shapes have a larger surface area to volume ratio so the shape of the
object can have an effect on the rate of diffusion.
By increasing the surface area the rate of diffusion will go up.

Dna Crime Investigation
By looking at my results, suspects 1 and 4 did not commit the crime. My other lab assistants
tested suspects 2 and 3, and suspect 3 was the one who committed the crime. When looking at the
DNA test, suspect 3 s DNA matched up almost perfectly, while the suspect s DNA I tested (1 and
4) did not match up, and were not in the same location. The bands in the DNAtest between the
crime scene and the suspect 3 matched up almost perfectly. When looking at the crime scene
DNA, the distances were 21mm, 23mm, and 31 mm, and when looking at suspect 3, the
distances were 21, 23, and 30. Suspect three was the closest match to the crime scene. The
distances for suspect 1 and 4 were nowhere near the same distances as the crime scene DNA.

When picking up the gel, the gel broke in half. This could have altered the results because some
of our DNA could have broken off. Although it appeared that we saved the DNA, there is a slight
chance that some of the DNA could have broken off. Also, my assistants and I had difficulty
measuring the agarose powder. We might have poured too much of the powder, which could have
made the gel too thick. Next time, we will be more cautious when measuring the powder to have
more accurate results. The next step in the investigation is to bring in the suspect. He needs to be
brought in for questioning to see where Weston is, and Nicholas needs to be arrested. Our main
goals are to figure out the whereabouts of the baby and to bring Weston home to his family alive and

Computer Technology and the Effects on Society
Computer Technology and the Effects on S Computer Technology and the Effect on Society
Computer technology has had a great effect on society as a whole throughout history. It has
modified our behavior greatly as we have become accustomed to the technological advancements
of yesterday. We are so dependent sometimes we do not even have a concept of what life would
be like without computers. When we are forced to live life without computers we are left
hopeless and disillusioned and simple everyday tasks become major chores. Computers of the past
were very primitive compared to the computers of today but extremely useful. One of the very first
computers of major importance was the abacus that was developed by Chinese and later made more

This again was due to the cost of the technology. Even though these advancements helped the
computing industry move forward they also helped the job market, as well as keeping accurate
records of information. Companies now needed a full time staff to run the computers as well as
programmers to program them. The introduction of magnetic storage also helped many scientists
organize their data, to make better and more concise evaluations, allowing them to make discoveries
that they never previously thought possible. This began the rapid advancement towards computers
as we know them today. During the 1970 s and 1980 s no one could have imagined how fast the
computing industry would begin evolving. This is when the computer started developing into the
personal computer we know today. The large computers that filled an entire room became smaller
and smaller. That is when personal computers began showing up in homes everywhere. As time
passed storage medium improvements were made. At first the personal computer used a disk to
boot up. This was called a floppy disk. It was first develop in the 5 1/4 form that could hold 360KB
of information. This was later expanded and storage went from 360KB to 1228.8KB or 1.2 MB of
information. Striving for more powerful and compact storage the 3 1/2 disk slowly but surely
replaced the 5 1/4 disks. The formats did overlap for some time as the 720KB 3 1/2 disk competed
with the 5 1/4 360KB disk and the 1.2M 5 1/4 Disk competed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio-Materials
BIO MATERIALS Bio materials are materials that are employed for biological purposes. They
come under the category of ADVANCED MATERIALS i.e. materials that have high tech
applications. According to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), a
bio material is one which is exploited in contact with living tissues, organisms, and/or micro
organisms. Bio materials are not a separate class of materials. Rather, they are common materials
naturally occurring or synthetically manufactured that are deemed suitable for use in living
organisms in general and humans in particular. Polymers, metals and ceramics are all examples
of common biomaterials that are used in day to day medical procedures without complications.
Sometimes, naturally occurring proteins such as collagen are also used as bio materials with
slight modifications, if required. Bio materials have lots of uses in the field of medicine. They can
be used for purposes as simple as a stent in cardiovascular surgery or as complex as a pacemaker or

Essay On Lincoln Chapter 4
The four guards had come together, not sure as to what to do. This turned out to be a big mistake.
As they were about to walk into the truck s rear, a device came flying out of it, bounced a few
times, then landed in the middle of those four.
By the time they looked down to see what it was, the grenade went off. It instantly killed the four
guards and sent everyone else flying backwards from where they were. As for Lincoln he went
flying back into a tower of large boxes. It hurt. He was now on his knees, feeling quite groggy and
struggling to get back his hearing.
Just after the grenade, another device came bouncing in from the back of the truck. This one was
spurting out smoke. Some sort of smoke bomb! Within seconds the whole room was ... Show more

The goggles, Lincoln guessed would have allowed him to see easily in the smoke and the mask
might have been a gas mask. Lincoln could not tell. He resisted the urge again to fire. The soldier
also did not fire but bent over him and pulled his head back.
Got him over here! was what he said next. Then another military person appeared out of the mist
and the two of them grabbed Lincoln by the shoulders and literally dragged him towards the truck.
Lincoln was still groggy enough not to be able to resist. One of them grabbed his gun before he
could do anything.
Lincoln s only course of action now was to remain as still as possible. His feet dragged along the
floor until they all got to the truck. The two soldiers then took him down the stairs to the front of
the truck. They opened the door and flung him in. Lincoln was about to jump out again when one
of them pulled his rifle around and pointed it at him. Lincoln got back in and sat quietly.
After a moment or two, a soldier got in on the driver s side and another jumped into the passenger
side. Lincoln noted that one was a little short for a soldier. He was now surrounded by these
soldiers with no hope of escaping. The truck sped off down the alleyway and into the street.
Lincoln was slowly regaining his senses. He still thought this was an illusion but it suddenly
occurred to him that he was out of the warehouse. Maybe his mind manifested this scenario. He was

Shawn Love Mrs. Echols ERWC, Period 2 12 February 2017 The Advancements in Architecture The
good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more
beautiful than it was before the building was built (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries,
architecture has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the
political and economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can
still idolize ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that
time influenced them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong
today, they had few materials to work with and they weren t as strong... Show more content on

Previously, metals weren t in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant
that buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone,
and concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also
changed architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons,
and by 1900, it rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel,
which was not only stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength
greater than any other material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to
design much taller buildings with a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that
prevented architects from doing so. To cement a new friendship, especially between foreigners
or persons of a different social world, a spark with which both were secretly charged must fly
from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place and time (Elisha Graves Otis).
Elevators have been known to exist since the Roman era. They were created with a basic pulley
system that were operated by either humans, animals, or water power. For example, Rome s
Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the gladiators and wild animals from one stage floor to
the next. In England, elevators were powered by a steam machine or a hydraulic pump and were
used to bring up the monarch s food more

Pros For The Advancement Of Technology
Technology has the ability to make everyday life more convenient, provide more entertainment
options and bring information from your fingertips to your eyes in a matter of seconds. The list of
pros for the advancement of technology is almost endless and the cons may not be as large.
Depending on your parenting style, the pros and cons could be switched around for those families.
While the advantages are numerous the disadvantages and dangers can be just as long. Some of
those dangers include pornography, racist propaganda, child predators and violent material just to
name a few. Without taking an active role in a child s online activities they could be set up for
numerous and dangerous situations for not only them, but their families as well. Without proper
interaction from adults children are at a greater risk of being exposed to inappropriate material.
Luckily, there are plenty of resources available for parents to use to safeguard their children when it
comes to online activities. One of the biggest things that all parents can do to ensure they make the
internet safe is to be involved with online activities. Unfortunately, not all parents know how to use
these resources to protect their kids while online or they simply choose to do nothing and expect
their kids to do the right thing. Parents may unknowingly put too much faith into software that is
designed to protect kid s internet browsing by scanning websites for predefined characteristics that

Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis
Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) refers to a
variety of conditions in which a chronic immune response and inflammation occur throughout the
gastrointestinal tract. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are triggered by an abnormal response by the
body s immune system. In a normal functioning immune system, the cells protect the body from
infection. However, in those who are suffering from IBD, the immune system mistakes bacteria,
food, and other materials in the intestine as foreign substances and attack the cells in the intestines.
As an immune response, the body sends white blood cells to the lining of the intestines, ultimately
causing a chronic inflammation and the patient then experiences a variety of symptoms.
Symptoms of an IBD can vary, depending on the severity and location of the inflammation.
Common symptoms of an inflammatory bowel disease include abdominal pain and cramping that
usually disappear after a bowel movement, constipation or difficulty passing stool, diarrhea, fever,
gastrointestinal bleeding, gurgling or splashing sound heard over the intestine, nausea and
vomiting, pain in the joints, and undesired weight loss. Since these symptoms can indicate a
number of possible diseases, it can be difficult to determine the correct diagnoses. The two main
types of IBD are Crohn s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, but determining a patient s exact
diagnoses can be challenging.
Although Crohn s Disease and Ulcerative

  • 2. What Were The Pros Of The Vikings By the Xth century the Vikings (also called Northmen ) used to raid one European monastery after another (Richards, 2005). The news about that spread all around Europe and caused much chaos. It was the source of fear and panic among the European lords and Christians (Graham Campbell, 1980).The Vikings appeared from nowhere, killed people, robbed the monasteries and vanished. They were so impetuous that were considered to be irresistible tribes. Their actions were described as insulting, appalling and often immoral. They were called pagan marauder seamen (Graham Campbell, 1980). The early writings about the Vikings (Richards, 2005) make us aware of the fact that their raids on Europe were mostly devastating and ruinous. Due to that, a certain stereotype of their being wild, rude, aggressive and destructive prevails in human history. They became notorious for being merciless barbarians, pirates, ravagers and beasts. But were they really like that? To what extent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They practiced quite a humanistic approach towards the criminals. The criminals were either banished or imposed with a financial compensation: no death sentence was implemented. The Alping was an effective foundation of a further national government. Besides the political and law issues, the Alping dealt with commercial and trade issues as well. (Short, 2010) Along with being good warriors and accomplished seamen, the Vikings were skillful jewelers and sculptors (Graham Campbell, 1980). The Norse culture influenced much on the European art and language. For instance, Irish architecture and sculpture is full of Viking ornaments and carvings, English vocabulary is full of Norse words, etc. (Short, 2010). Such evidence contribute much to the positive construction and interchange rather than violence and destruction attributed to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Davidian Compound On February 28, 1993, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms launched a raid on the Davidian Compound just outside of Waco, Texas, not knowing that it would lead to a 51 day standoff, the compound burning to the ground, and the loss of many lives, including four ATF agents. The Branch Davidians are a religious group that resulted from a breakoff in the Davidian Seventh day Adventist Church in 1955. As the group gained members, the leaders decided to move the church just outside of Waco, Texas, to a place they named Mount Carmel, after a mountain in Israel mentioned in Joshua 19:26. Their leader at the time, Florence Houteff, then prophesied that the Second Coming of Jesus was approaching, and ordered the members to stay at the center... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, while the siege was over, it was not forgotten. On April 19, 1995, two years after the fire that killed so many people, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols planted a bomb that killed 168 people, injured more than 680 people, and whose blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings within a sixteen block radius of Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Motivated by his hatred of the government and the outrage he felt about the Waco Siege in 1993, McVeigh decided to time his attack for the second anniversary of the deadly fire. Forensic evidence linked both men to the attack. On June 11, 2001, McVeigh was executed by lethal injection and Nichols was sentenced to life in prison in 2004. The Oklahoma City Bombing was the worst terrorist attack on United States soil until September 11, 2001. The siege at Waco will forever be remembered not only in the history books, but also by the families of the four ATF agents that were killed. Thanks to the bravery and sacrifice of those four men, the FBI has developed new, improved tactics of dealing with hostage situations, many of which have saved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Leaders In Samurai s Tale Three admirable leaders in samurai s tale are Yoichi, Togan, and the charcoal burner family. Although Yoichi was the servant of Murakami and Murakami of Akiyama, Togan a cook for Akiyama s lower class servants, and the Charcoal Burner Family a poor family contempt with helping Murakami. They were better leaders than the people in charge, who were supposed to be leaders/ lead. The charcoal burner family was very kind, helpful, and were content with helping Murakami. They gave him one of the best spots in their house, fed him, and welcomed him although they were poor. I was made welcome and given warm food and a place near the brazier. (p.218). Giving the best you can give to another person, is portrayed in this. It s important to want the best for others so that you can try understanding them more, instead of trying to overcome them. They also insisted on protecting him on his way to Lord Akiyama s father s home. Sending their eldest son, even, to accompany him. • 5. Describe The Story Of Nabucco Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time in 1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work. The second story of Nabuccoagain appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera. The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viewed on a more complex level, the symbolism of Nabucco offers an intricate relationship between the characters and political events. In this view, King Nabucodonosor might represent Napoleon, and his two daughters, one legitimate, symbolizing Italy, and another illegitimate Austria. The Babylonian religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic Church. The parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to discern: the opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the Hebrews slaves represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian ... Failure to oblige by these rules is punishable, and a penalty is always enforced on the people who do not obey the law. The law also consists of the procedures that should be followed for the people to live responsibly and also what should be done on those who do not follow the rules. As provided in the U.S Constitution under the Eight Amendment, a bail consists of the amount of money that a defendant should pay in order to be released out of the custody until the day of his or her trial. People mostly have a right to bail except capital cases in 40 state constitutions. There are a few reasons why bail is significantly important to a defendant. First, it gives the individual time to wait for their trial outside the jail cell. Without bail, the defendant would have to await their trail but stay in jail for a number of months. It wouldn t seem fair for someone to spend time in jail if they are presumed not guilty in the near future. Second, bail gives the defendant time to spend with their lawyer, so they carefully prepare for the upcoming trial. Statistically, people generally are convicted and sentenced more when they don t make bail compared to the ones that do make bail (Lippman 2015). Families with a low income suffer the most because they may not have enough to pay 10 percent fee. She flirts with many men and young adults throughout the play, which makes the reader feel a lack of sympathy for her as the men she desired ended up becoming major contributors to her eventual downfall, in particular Stanley. The reader may view Blanche as someone who tried to escape her sordid past in Laurel and wanted to start a new life with her sister, yet due to the continuous investigations from Stanley, was unable to do so. Stanley reveals Blanches lies and deceits, commenting on them as her same old act, same old hooey! This tells the reader that his research of Blanches past is way of stopping her from finding a new life. Blanche attempts to redeem her life by finding love with Mitch, yet Stanley again reveals to Mitch that she was not straight , resulting in Mitch not wanting to be with her and also contributing to her fate. Stanley, after mercilessly divulging all her truths and bringing her to the edge of her mental capacity, rapes Blanche which brought about her final collapse. The reader may view Stella as someone at blame for her sisters fate, as though she shows some moral support of Blanches situation and listens to what she has to say, Stella continuously throughout the play neglects to notice Blanches slow mental deterioration and ignores Blanches outcries and incessant need for attention. • 11. Analysis Of The Poem Anastrophe Elegy By Rebecca Foust The poem Anastrophe Elegy by Rebecca Foust tells the story of a woman who falls madly in love with a man. This woman, was the it girl she was talented, smart, beautiful, and athletic. She had many different roles in peoples lives such as girlfriend, wife, mother, friend, coach and many more. However, she met a man whom she falls in lovewith. As a result of love she gives her all to him. She went above and beyond for this man giving up much of herself to make sure he was happy. After spending much of her time and money for the man she loved, he ups and leaves her. When the love of her life left, he not only left with himself but he left with a part of her. The persona says that the woman was not the same after he left. Throughout the poem there is a sense of grief brought on from this tragic relationship and the unwarranted results of the relationship. Although the woman in the story did not die, her spirit did die when the love of her life left. Therefore, the theme of sadness is shown in this poem through the anastrophe structure, stylechoice of an elegy, and the mood. Firstly, the theme of sadness is presented through the structure of an Anastrophe. When it comes to poetry, the structure it is presented is very important. The structure of a poem can determine the rhythm. Furthermore, it can make a poem sound fast pace, slow, anxious or calm. The structure controls how one may read the poem or even perceive the poem. • 20. Anglo Saxon Heroic Deeds Meaning In Anglo Saxon culture, it is very important to be remembered. The only way to be remembered was to perform a heroic deed that was later recited as a poem to a large group of people on multiple occasions. They turned these stories into poems so it was easier for the storyteller to remember it and Bards would recite these to people for centuries so it was very important for people to become a hero or cause a major change to be part of these stories and remembered forever. The definition of a hero now versus the definition of a hero in the Anglo Saxon time period isn t much different but the definition of what is a heroic deed is much different. In modern day culture, a good example of a heroic deed would be a firefighter, someone risking their lives to save others. In Anglo Saxon culture, a good example of a heroic deed would be to kill someone who is harmful, someone risking their lives to save others. Notice how each person the firefighter or the warrior they both risked their lives to save others but in modern day someone killing someone for others isn t really a hero. Because of an existing judicial system, heroes only save people instead of sacrificing and killing others. Heros during Anglo Saxon were the judicial system and were responsible for punishment which meant sacrificing terrible people to save others. In our modern day culture, a hero is someone who stands up and fights for a group of people or a cause. A hero is someone with characteristics such as courageous, brave and kind. With a judicial system and police officers, a hero is a lot different in our society. A hero will take care of things that government officials won t handle. Heros will stand up for an opinion or flaw in government law such as women s rights or gay marriage. In Anglo Saxon culture, the heroes were the judicial system so they used violence to carry out punishment for bad people. In modern day a hero doesn t use violence as an answer to problems. A Brief Note On Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Introduction and background Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a surgical procedure performed on patients with coronary artery disease to improve their survival and quality of life. (1) It remains to be the gold standard treatment for patients requiring multivessel coronary revascularization despite recent advances in medical therapies and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). (2) There are two forms of CABG. Traditionally, CABG is performed with a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machine (aka heart lung machine or the pump ) which maintains circulation while the heart is temporarily stopped. (1) This creates a bloodless and motionless operating field for the surgeons. (3) The body is then weaned from CPB and the heart is restarted with the completion of grafting. (1) Alternatively, a relatively newer technique called off pump CABG or beating heart surgery can be performed. With this procedure, CPB is not utilized and the surgeon grafts the bloodvessel on the pumping heart after the area around the blocked coronary artery is stabilized. (1) Ever since the introduction of off pump CABG, clinicians all over the world have been interested in finding out whether off pump CABG can help patients avoid the deleterious effects associated with CPB and a large amount of research has been undertaken to investigate the potential advantages of off pump CABG over the conventional on pump CABG. As the data shows the consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). • 32. The Responsibility Of 911 Attacks Have you ever think of the US should take the responsibility of 911 attacks? September 11 attacks, the deadliest terrorist attack in world history, were a series of airline hijacking by nineteen militants of an Islamic extremist group Al Qaeda. The hijackers, along with the suicide bombers, seized four US commercial jets and crashed them into US s landmarks, Twins tower of World Trader Center and the Pentagon, at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2011. The notorious Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden masterminded the attacks. According to CNN News, the September 11 attackskilled 2,966 people and injured more than 6,000 citizens in New York City (CNN). Moreover, as reported by Health Department WTC s Health Registry, the attacks brought on the post traumatic stress disorder, and they concluded that 1,140 people who worked near the Manhattan and the New York City at the time are diagnosed with cancer caused by exposure to toxins at Ground Zero (Bendix). On September 11, President George W Bush addressed a plausible but flawed explanation, America was targeted for attack because we re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining (The Boston Globe), which indirectly reveals that Bush is blaming Muslims for the fault for 911 attacks. While most of the Americans believe that Muslims are fully responsible for the 911 attacks, the U.S involvement in Middle East affairs and the exploitation of Middle East resources sparked off ... There have not been many significant literature reviews about teachers using inquiry based instructional strategies to teach science and to plan units and meet curriculum demands. However, most literature that was found suggests that teachers that use instructional strategies in their unit plans and lessons give teachers an opportunity to meet curriculum demands. Nutrients and oxygen need to diffuse through the cell membrane and into the cells. Most cells are no longer than 1mm in diameter because small cells enable nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell quickly and allow waste to diffuse out of the cell quickly. If the cells were any bigger than this then it would take too long for the nutrients and oxygen to diffuse into the cell so the cell would probably not survive. Single celled organisms can survive as they have a large enough surface area to allow all the oxygen and nutrients they need to diffuse through. Larger multi celled organisms need specialist ... It takes longer to reach the centre of the cube even though the rate of diffusion is the same for all the cubes. As the volume of the blocks goes up the Surface Area / Volume ratio goes down. The larger blocks have a smaller proportion of surface area than the smaller blocks. When the surface area to volume ratio goes down it takes longer for the hydrochloric acid to diffuse into the cube but if the ratio goes up then the hydrochloric acid diffuses more quickly into the block of gelatin. Some shapes have a larger surface area to volume ratio so the shape of the object can have an effect on the rate of diffusion. By increasing the surface area the rate of diffusion will go up. Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) refers to a variety of conditions in which a chronic immune response and inflammation occur throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are triggered by an abnormal response by the body s immune system. In a normal functioning immune system, the cells protect the body from infection. However, in those who are suffering from IBD, the immune system mistakes bacteria, food, and other materials in the intestine as foreign substances and attack the cells in the intestines. As an immune response, the body sends white blood cells to the lining of the intestines, ultimately causing a chronic inflammation and the patient then experiences a variety of symptoms. Symptoms of an IBD can vary, depending on the severity and location of the inflammation. Common symptoms of an inflammatory bowel disease include abdominal pain and cramping that usually disappear after a bowel movement, constipation or difficulty passing stool, diarrhea, fever, gastrointestinal bleeding, gurgling or splashing sound heard over the intestine, nausea and vomiting, pain in the joints, and undesired weight loss. Since these symptoms can indicate a number of possible diseases, it can be difficult to determine the correct diagnoses.
