Blindness By Jose Saramago s Blindness
Extensionalism that is Presented in Blindness by JosГ© Saramago A person is not just
characterized by those particular circumstances that they find themselves in, but by how they
respond to those moments. The phenomenal novel, Blindness, written by Jose Saramago,
showcases the storyline of a country that encounters a widespread disease that leads to several
people catching a type of blindnesswhere they can only see white. The unfortunate people who have
received the terribly contagious disease spreading around are to be isolated in an abandoned mental
hospital to avoid the spreading of the blindness. Existentialism is the philosophy that one can be

She replied by saying, My affection... I m remaining to help you and the other people who may
come here, however don t reveal to them I can see (Saramago, 40). This quote proves that she is
a very nice and kind person who is always there for the people she loves and cares about. She
would take the possibility of catching a disease where one can only see white in order to remain
with her husband who is ill. By staying with her husband while he is in desperate need of help,
she proves that she is one of the kindest characters in the novel. However, as the book progresses,
her trait of kindness quickly fades away after experiencing an atrocious situation. A group of
people, formed in the hospital, were collecting all the food from the patients, and the only way
the people had a chance of retrieving it was by making the women have intercourse with the men
of the group. When the doctor s wife was forced to have intercourse, she was traumatized, and
knew that she needed to find a way to end the catastrophe. In order to do this, she decided to kill
the leader of the group, and stabbed him in the throat with a pair of scissors. The author describes
the wife at that moment by writing, she had blood on her hands and clothes...but she knew that if it
were necessary, she would kill again (Saramago, 192). This quote shows the readers how much the
wife has changed because of one event that occurred. She went from

How Can Communicable Diseases Be Broken At A Link Within The Communicable Disease Chain?
The objective of this study is to answer how communicable diseases can be broken at a link within
the communicable disease chain and to answer whether there are steps nurses can take to facilitate
this process. This work will provide a specific example.
According to a report published by John Hopkins University the major cause of deaths in
emergency and post conflict situations are those caused by outbreaks of disease. These
outbreaks are reported to raise baseline death rates sixty times. ( ) The primary killers in complex
emergencies over the past ten years are reported as malaria, diarrhoeal diseases, and pneumonia
with TB and HIV/AIDS gaining increasing attention more recently. ( ) It is additionally reported
that more than 40% of deaths during the acute emergency stage in camp situations result from
diarrhoeal diseases and that 80% of these are among children less than two years of age.
John Hopkins University additionally reported that it is possible to minimize disease outbreaks and
deaths during natural disasters and emergencies of a complex nature through introduction of
disease surveillance, epidemic preparedness, effective prevention, and control including case
management. ( ) Failure to implement well coordinated response that is both timely and effective
is likely to result in such as the re emergence of old disease threats as well as outbreaks of changed

Eric Cantor Case Study
June, 2014 House Majority leader Eric Cantor would lose his bid for re election to a relatively
underwhelming opponent Dave Brat a Tea Party backed economics professor. This primary upset
(Martin, June 2014) is considered one of the biggest upsets in political history. Cantor who had
raised roughly 5.4 million dollars in campaign funds found himself down by eleven percent to Brat
who had only been able to raise roughly two hundred thousand for his own campaign. While Cantor
continuously criticized Brat for being soft on immigration and contending that he supported what
critics call amnesty for immigrants in the country illegally found little support from the constituents

been lacking throughout Cantor s career is loyalty among his constituents (Caldwell, Diamond,
2014) Brat ran on an anti establishment platform criticizing Eric Cantor for his position on illegal
immigration, government bailouts and budget deals while commonly referring to God and the U.S.
Constitution in his speeches. This is one of the many reason that Brat succeeds over Cantor he
knew his constituents, and their back ground seeing that the 7th district of Virginia was
conservative district, by invoking God s name and the constitution gave both Brat and his
prospective voter common ground. During the campaign, Cantor criticized Brat as a liberal
professor who had strong ties to Tim Kaine, Virginia s former Democratic governor and current

Interns Will Build Good Network
Interns will build good network. Everyone you meet in an internship is a potential contact for your

Many employers use internships as a trial period and will already have plans to recruit on a

EMPLOYER S PERSPECTIVE:
A staggering 95 percent of employers said candidate experience is a factor in hiring decisions,
according to an annual survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
nearly half of surveyed employers wanted new grad experience to come from internships or co op
programs. If you have completed internships, you will clearly have an edge over your classmates
who haven t. Philip D. Gardner, research director of the Collegiate Employment Research Institute
quotes that internship experience is just one of those things you have to have before employers
will even consider looking at your resume. Employers increasingly see their internship programs as
the best path for hiring entry level candidates. Not only does participation in an internship make the
student a more attractive candidate, but it can also be an avenue to a job. the National Association
of Colleges and Employer s Experiential Education Survey shows that hiring from the intern
program is growing. Employers reported that nearly 36 percent of the new college graduates they
hired came from their own internship programs.
Matthew Zinman of the Internship Institute reports that IBM hires up to 2,000 interns annually and

Shay s Rebellion By Leonard L. Richards Chapter Summary
Stated in the preface, Leonard L. Richards had heard the standard story of Shays s Rebellion time
and time again. While finding a last minute book for his class, he discovered in a footnote that the
Massachusetts Archives had the names of the Shaysites, not just the names of the leaders, but some
four thousand names. With most rebellions, finding out who participated is difficult, making this
unusual. Again by accident, Richards learned that the university library had the pertinent state
archives on microfilm. After working through the bad handwriting, Richards found out that the
standard story he was taught made little sense. I believe that in wanting to tell the story right,
Richards did more research and it led to his writing of this book.... Show more content on

According to the data that Richards found, he explains that many Shaysites were considered
gentlemen. This includes members from the most prominent families in their towns, local leaders,
former Revolutionary officers and soldiers, and even some members of the Society of the
Cincinnati. Not only were many Shaysites among the top half of their town s taxpayers, many
appeared among the top twenty percent of taxpayers. Also, more supporters of the state goverment
were sued and appeared in court for debts whereas fewer insurgents had. For example, in 1785 and
1786 only ninety men in all of Hampshire County were imprisoned for debt, while nearly eighteen
hundred Hampshire men had participated in Shays s Rebellion. Out of the ninety men jailed, 88 of
them had not participated in the

What Is Ecotourism
What is ecotourism? Normally, natural travel can be called as ecotourism. Eco came from the
Greek words called OIKOS , it means the habitat and it is an abbreviation of the words ecology .
This word actually came from the scientific study of the relationship of living organisms to each
other and their surroundings. Therefore, in this point of view, ecotourism means ecological tourism;
whereby ecological has both of the social content and environmental. According to Page Dowling
(2002), since most of the definition of ecotourism have been explained, it is not so much as a word
but a philosophy and a commitment which evolved from environmental awareness of 1960s, there
have been various flow of thoughts about ecotourism. Besides that, ecotourism... Show more

People do not know how importance the nature is and they almost spend their whole time just face

Fighting sports has played a major role in my life. I have been doing boxing for over five years
and it has taken me places that I would have never expected. I have met countless professional
athletes such as Evander Holyfield, Olympic Gold Medalist Vasyl Lomachenko, and Manny
Pacquiao. I got into boxing as young as four years old because I would always watch the fights
with my father and grandfather whenever anyone was fighting. When I first began boxing, I
was still overweight and I had my first sparring match which is the same as a fight but, practice.
Before sparring, I was not as nervous as you would think I would be. I was actually confident as
I had prior fighting experience from taekwondo and I thought I would beat my opponent,
however it was the complete opposite of what I had expected. My opponent that I had sparred
was a bit more experienced than I was of course and the match was a mess. Blood was
everywhere and it was living hell during those three to four rounds. At the end, I had learned
from my mistakes and I am now better than ever. From years of training I have gotten to a much
higher level of experience and I accomplished countless amounts of goals I have set for myself in
the boxing world, however I still do get beat by others who still have more experience than I do as
most of them have won countless tournaments such as the Golden Gloves and have over one

The Pros And Cons Of The Patriot Act
After the September 11th terrorist attacks, the United States was left in a weakened state of fear.
Government officials quickly scrambled to calm the mass panic which resulted in the speedy
passing of the Patriot Act. The Patriot, or what is more formally known as the Providing
Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism act, was established to provide the
government with the implements it needed to stop terrorists operating on American soil. While the
Patriot Act does have an important goal of obstructing terrorism, it achieves this goal at the expense
of our individual liberties given to us by the Constitution. Firstly, the Patriot Act violates the Fourth
Amendment to the United States Constitutionby allowing the government to conduct secret searches
of citizens property undermining the amendment s principle of search and seizure only with a
warrant. The Fourth Amendment protects us from searches and seizures without a warrant or
probable cause. However, sections of the Patriot Act can be seen undermining this American
prerogative. The American Civil Liberties Unionexplains, Section 213 of the Patriot Act justifies
the allowance of secret searches. Secret searches permit the government to search the owner s
private property without having to notify them (ACLU). This section has caused for the mass
surveillance of not only possible terrorists but also innocent American citizens. The government not
being required to inform you after your private

The Battle Of The Confederate Battle Flag
A Slow Extinction All the conflict the Confederate battle flag has raised in the past month
elevates the question should the flag stay up or be taken down. Many states have already taken
it down from official buildings. Other questions appear asking if the flag symbolizes racism or
heritage. As said by Coulter Think of all the actual people you know, Southern or Yankee. Have any
of them ever expressed support for slavery? Ever, ever, ever? No they haven t (Battle Over

The battle flag known today became popular to soldiers. It is distinctive compared to the Unions
with its red background, blue X, and stars. This flag s fame comes from its use by General Lees
Army of Northern Virginia, the greatest military force of the Confederacy. This flag has been
said to symbolize hate or racism. As stated by one of our great presidents, We are not enemies,
but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our
bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot
grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of
the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.
(Lincoln) Robert E. Lee is the first commander to use this flag and as said by one author, nearly
95% of Lee s army that fought at Gettysburg did not own a single slave (McPherson). This image
of the South where everyone owns slaves is not correct. In fact, two authors say that, The average
white Southern family in antebellum America lived on a small farm without slaves. Slave
ownership was the exception, not the rule (Williamson and Cain). As presented by Williamson and

Factors that Affected the Outcome of World War Two Essay
Factors that Affected the Outcome of World War Two
There were many factors that affected the outcome of World War Two. Some of these were how
many tanks you had, how powerful your tanks were, and how well they were built. The Allies had
the most tanks in the war and this was one of the main things that helped them win. The Germans
had the most powerful tanks in the war, but the allies out numbered them. The Allies using light and
medium tanks in big groups against the Germans powerful tanks was the main thing that helped
them win World War Two.
During World War Two there were many different types of tanks. They were put into categories

This led to American tanks being very maneuverable and mechanically reliable, but there was
hardly enough gun power and usually not enough protection. The Soviet designers put firepower
first, and made protection and mobility equal in second. Their tanks always had good guns, enough
protection, and they were fast, but they were not as reliable as the designers wanted. The British
designers put protection first, mobility second, and firepower third. This led to some failures. By
putting firepower last the guns on the British tanks weren t powerful enough to harm German tanks.
The Germans had the most powerful tank force out of all the countries fighting in World War Two.
Their tank force was composed in 1939 and had 3,195 vehicles in all. During World War Two the
Germans used the Blitzkrieg or lightning strategy, which was very effective. They also put all
their tanks into panzer divisions. These panzer divisions were a big success during the first two
years of the war. Other countries came up with formations similar to the panzer divisions. This led
to a drastic increase in tank production for the Germans. Starting in 1942 they rearmed all of their
tanks.
They made them bigger, heavier, have more armor, and they added bigger guns. The main tanks
that they upgraded were the Pz. IV and the Tiger Tank. They also introduced the Panther medium
tank around this time. The Panther medium

Effects Of Depression On High Income Countries
Depression, in general, affects more than 340 million people around the world and is reported to
be the highest cause of disability in high income countries (Demissie). 15% to 85% of mothers
can experience postpartum blues with postpartum depression rates between 11.7% and 20.4% in
the United States alone (Ersek). This depression can occur at anytime from post delivery up to one
year (Ersek). Giving birth comes with a wide variety of changes including physical, emotion and
social. There are very high levels of sex hormones in circulation which cause increased ligament,
joint and muscle laxity (Norman). Many women lose their social contacts due to upcoming life
changes, must take time off work, and must stop previous hobbies (Norman). Relationship factors,
hormone changes, sleep deprivation and support deeply effect a woman s self esteem and
confidence during and after pregnancy (Norman). [Daley et al.] states that symptoms of postpartum
depressioninclude decreased mood, fatigue, anxiety, thoughts of self harm and poor mother infant
interactions(change wording). Women with post partum depression have been reported to be at an
increased risk for substance abuse, are more likely to miss gynecological and child health
appointments, are more non compliant with medical recommendations and are less likely to use
preventative safety items like car seats and outlet covers (Ersek). Researchers state that women

Caught In The Crossfire Sociology
1. I can say it is a huge difference between being victimized by someone known to the victim vs. a
stranger. If it is you are victimized by an individual you personally know, it is possible that you
might come in contact with that individual again and you might question yourself with the intent of
the abuse. You may conceptualize why would they subject you to that type of abuse or what did
you do to deserve the physical abuse. In addition, it might be somewhat challenging to report the
individual for the reason that you may perhaps consider that an individual is a decent person after
all. The victimwill retract or just not report the abuse so they will begin to feel sympathetic for the
individual as to make excuses for them by stating they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if the judge would look at the wishes of an ex wife or daughter, it would also cause
someone to leave the room unhappy if it comes to worst (Ng, 2013). People would question the
judge ruling, if the judge would give a suspect slap on the wrist, or maximum sentencing for a
lesser crime, because of the emotional feelings of others.
3.3 A judge should never take into consideration of the victim or family member requests to give
a harsher or lesser sentencing. As I said before the sentencing of a suspect shouldn t be just based
off of granting a request. If the judge were to consider the family s request, though, the fact that it

The Diel-Alder Nucleophilic Acyl Substitution
The Diel Alder/Nucleophilic Acyl Substitution Cascade Reaction Introduction The Diels Alder
reaction was discovered and named after the Nobel Prize winning scientists Kurt Alder and Otto
Diels in 1928. Such a reaction occurs when a diene with two adjacent double bonds is mixed with
a dienophile consisting of a double bond in order to create a cyclohexene. The diene must be in
the s cis conformation in order for the electron transfer to engage correctly. If the diene in question
is in s trans conformation then the access to the molecules is limited, thus, no reaction can occur.
The dienophile we used was maleic anhydride. Maleic anhydride possesses high electron
withdrawing characteristics which caused a very quick reaction. The reaction will

The Poverty Of The United Kingdom Essay
Child contingent support In the United Kingdom, a commitment to end child poverty forever was
a stated key ambition of the incoming Labour administration in 1997 (Blair, 1999). Many of the
measures designed to achieve this outcome (or the marginally more modest intention to halve
child poverty by 2010) were about the provision of new or enhanced services rather than the
transfer of resources. Stewart (2013, 5) estimates that spending on child contingent benefits and tax
credits more or less doubled across the period of Labour government, while child related services
saw a dramatic increase from around ВЈ 671 per child in 1997/8 to ВЈ2,514 per child in 2009/10.
Part of this increase related to the Sure Start programme and the funded expansion of early
education. There was also legislation to increase the duration of maternity leave and to implement
statutory paternity leave. A commitment to lowering staff pupil ratios in state schools was part
of a (long term) investment in the well being of children, especially those from disadvantaged
backgrounds. Increased expenditure on pre school childcare was also seen as easing the route
back to work for mothers with young children (Stewart 2013). There was a further step change in
the resources directed to children (via their parents). This included an increase in the universal
child benefit where spending increased in real terms (at 2009/10 prices) from ВЈ9,134 million (in
1997/8) to ВЈ12,460 million (in 2009/10). There was

Cultural Influences On Consumer Behavior
Executive Summary
Demographic Subcultures
Consumers identify with many groups that share common characteristics and identities. These
groups that exist within a society are subcultures, and affiliation with them often gives marketers a
valuable clue about individuals consumption decisions. An important part of the identity of these
subcultures is clothing. Consumers feelings about their overall economic prospects, as well as the
state of mind consumers have about their own personal situation, otherwise known as consumer
confidence, helps to determine whether they will save their money, purchase goods and services, or
take on debt.

Communicative and Symbolic Nature of Fashion
Fashion reflects how people define themselves as well as our society and our culture. It is
responsible for consumers changing their furniture, cars, wardrobes, and music. It is important to
keep in mind that fashion processes affect all types of cultural phenomena, including all types of
products, not just clothing and accessories.
Celebrity Endorsements in Fashion
For celebrity campaigns to be effective, the endorser must have a clear and popular image. In
addition, the celebrity s image and that of the product he or she endorses should be similar,
researchers refer to this as the match up hypothesis.
Online Consumer Behavior
The Internet is transforming the way consumers interact with companies and with each other.
Online commerce allows us to locate obscure products from around the world, and consumption
communities provide forums for people to share opinions and product recommendations. The
benefits are accompanied by potential problems, including the loss of privacy.

The Roaring Twenties in Canada
The Roaring Twenties were not a very optimistic time in Canadian history because not all citizens

not have equal political or legal rights to non Aboriginal men, and there was a large amount of

Official Narrative Essay Examination for Professional Certification in Packaging
Member Name: Nick Giesse
IoPP Member ID: 19982
Submission Date: August 4th, 2014
This question is taken from Narrative Exam Code 2NEC C7: 4. Package design projects usually
start with a Package Design Brief document which will describe in some detail what the package is
suppose to achieve, with what product, targeted at what group, in what marketplace, against what
competition, by what means, and in conjunction with what other activities. Draw up a design brief
for a product of your choice. Include a sketch of the likely packaging system, and some general
assumptions regarding material performance requirements.
INTRODUCTION
Packaging engineers are tasked with collecting input from various functional areas in a business to
determine the best structural package for a project. Oftentimes, this project will start in the hands of
marketing or project managers, who determine the criteria the package must meet to fulfill the
needs of the project.
The packaging engineer can get this list of criteria in an organized format, usually in the form of a
package design brief, which is a document the project manager can use to get the right inputs to the
packaging engineer to start developing packaging concepts. Without this set of boundaries to design
against, it is difficult for the packaging engineer to begin any designs, because otherwise there are
too many possibilities that could be considered.

Stereotypes In Horror Movies
More than any other genre of film, horror is perhaps the one ridiculed almost as often as it is

able to make metal representations .While these circumstances were once idiosyncratic and able to

forced to find new ways to make people shake with fear. So what rules will you need to know to
survive in the horror movies nowadays . As our ancestors recognized long ago, man does not
survive alone, yet it is common for characters in horror films to go against this logic and
bifurcate when staying together is the safer way to go. When going up against the main
antagonist your odds of survival rise substantially when you have the help of others to rely on.
Horror movie characters appear to life in an alternate universe where going out into the creepy
forest to investigate a noise by yourself is a good idea, and the results are almost always fatal.
These characters might as well slap a ВЂВњ Kill MeВЂВќ sign on their back and rub themselves
in some blood. In horror situations, strength comes from numbers, so if you want to survive, bring

Then Eddie offers her the ritual to do with him but she just laughs at him and says it is for girls.
The social climate in the play is very grim. No matter where you are in the play there are always
characters who are suffering. This may be understood as the people in the play are representing
the Indian Americans who lived on reservations all over America, and most of them went
through suffering. Another social climate is the desire to escape there current situation. Eddie
does not want to leave his sister alone, but he is tired of living on the reservation that he would
rather be dead. Aunt Thelma tells Eddie how life could have been better if she could have
escaped, and had a chance at an education. Mike dreams of leaving and being taken care of by his
aunt. Even Katherine dreams of leaving the reservation to find a better place for her kids. There
were many other social climates such as pain, depression, destructive habits, and lack of role
models. There are no real role models in this play that the kids can look up to. Even Aunt Thelma
has lost her child, so it is not the best example to live by. One of the biggest Cultural climates in the
play was alcoholism. Indian Americans are commonly known to have drinking problems, and in the
play there is no shortage of that. Katherine and Lenny both drink day and night, and then after

The Race Towards Independence Of The 1770 S

History 201
2016. February 14
The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in
North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of
King George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their
relationship with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation
to the conflict such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the
Revolutionary War of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for
Independence. It all started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French
and Indian War. Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took
control of the French holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to
maintain peaceful relations with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them
separated from the American frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted
settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve.
Disregarding the proclamation, some groups of settlers continued to move west and establish farms.
The proclamation was soon modified and was no longer a hindrance to settlement, but the fact that
it had been promulgated without their prior consultation angered the colonists

Wolfe s first main point was to emphasize the psychedelic movement s disillusionment with
society during the 1960s, which is clearly seen by Ken Kesey s urgings to use LSD to transcend
reality and bring a higher state of consciousness to those individuals involved. Wolfe s second main
point was to highlight the desire to escape, which is clearly seen in many of the Merry Pranksters,
especially Mountain Girl, who escapes a mundane life in New York to join Kesey and the
psychedelic movement. Wolfe s last point was to show equally the darkness and light in Kesey s
story to educate people about the good and bad sides of the 1960s psychedelic movement, which
is clearly seen by Wolfe s descriptions of the enlightenment that LSD brings as well as the bad trips

The Absurd Nagel Analysis
The Absurd Jourdan P Response Nagel believes that a myriad of the public have been impelled
to believe that their lives are meaningless or absurd due to the face that what happens now won t
matter in a million years. Nagel argues that our lives will not matter in a million lives and
therefore the lives we live are absurd. Nagel disputes that even if this is true, that shouldn t give
us the perception that our lives our absurd. He explains this by restating that our lives will not
matter in the future and in that case then what happens in the future does not matter now. I agree
his premise because we won t be alive in the future, a million years, so it is irrational to live life on
a daily basis as if it did. Nagel concludes that due to above... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He claims that many activities in life, presently, require a chain of justification, i.e. When I feel
thirsty, I drink. If this chain of justification continuously led to another justification, it would be an
infinite regress. This leads the reader to accept that it should end in life if anything else at all. Yet,
Nagel still believes that our lives our absurd and gives several reasons that he thinks support this
idea. Nagel depicts that the sense that life as a whole is absurd comes from the realization that we
are incapable of dispelling doubts, even towards things we are inherently sure about. This leads us
to learn that if we can t rid ourselves of these doubts, we are unqualified to justify our most central
commitments, and in turn without a justification to our most central commitments, our lives are
absurd or meaningless. Nagel claims that with this information, we can come to the conclusion that
life is absurd and how should we handle this? Nagel ends it with a simple answer, sub species
aeternitatis, nothing matters. Remarkably, sub species aeternitatis, it does not matter that sub

Similarities and differences between Asians and Americans Just like many other families, Asian
values are similar to those of American values but, there are some differences. One main similarity
between Asians and Americans is that both seek for the best quality of life they possibly deserve.
The Asian culture is very communal and family orientated, unlike the American culture, Americans
tend to be very independent and individually orientated. An interesting topic that I came across was
how Asian and Americans interpret directness. In the Asian culture people tend to value politeness
above directness. On the other hand Americans tend to value directness over being polite, in other
words Americans lay it out how it is and Asians tend to sugar coat it. Other distinctive behaviors
that differentiate from Asian and Americans are how they feel about working hard. Asians value
hard work above play and Americans feel play

Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
Why College Athletes Should Be Paid, and How The NCAA Can Do That The NCAA and the
universities represented by it are now making more money than ever through their athletic programs
than ever before. However, due to amateurism regulations set by the NCAA, the college athletes
that generate the massive revenue the NCAA receives are not paid at all. The article opens with the
argument that college athletes should be paid for their play. The argument is supported through
information proving that the NCAA undervalues athletes through the money they generate for their
school versus the amount of scholarship money the school provides them with. The article also
discusses how the NCAA also prevents athletes from marketing their own image and... Show more

In fact, collegiate athletes are not permitted to use their own image for personal profit, as it violates
the NCAA s rules on amateurism. Paying college athletes has been debated and argued about for
years, with tensions increasing on both sides. However, one idea remains clear. The NCAA needs
to compensate college athletes, and can do so through salaries, compensation for games played, or
through endorsement deals. The NCAA is one of the largest sports organizations in the world,
representing college athletics through three divisions and over twenty different sports. It is a multi
billion dollar business that brings in revenue through ticket sales, television contracts, and sale of
memorabilia. However, with none of the profits going towards the athletes themselves, the NCAA
is using their students for personal gain within the organization. There are multiple ways the
NCAA profits off its athletes, by undervaluing players and giving them less compensation because
of it, as well as limiting their opportunities to make money on their own. Critics of compensating
college athletes claim that the scholarships the players receive is enough compensation for their
play, as well as earning an education. John Thelin of Time Magazine states that since scholarships
are not taxed, it becomes a better deal for athletes. He says an athlete with a $65,000 scholarship

The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success
John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and
knowing you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the
question of what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of
success because John Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better
understanding, I will use three different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you
why these are related to success. Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in
the Movies class had with former basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the
Pyramid of Success that I think creates success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big
deal when it comes to success. If you come into a sports game and you believe that you and your
team will come out victorious, than you and your team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter
if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a
shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to miss, he thought it was going through
the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the
ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily contested and he would miss
sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident. Confidence doesn t just pass
for sports, it is also a trait you should hold

the true life story of James Robert Kennedy, a k a Radio; a mentally retarded young African
American who spends his days pushing a shopping cart around the streets of Anderson, a small
South Carolina town, collecting junk and old radios.
The movie starts with the heartbreaking scene of Radio pushing his cart around the town, in his

towards the opposite sidewalk. Every day Radio walks by the school, watching the football team

he took all the presents and put them at people s door, wishing them Marry Christmas . The joy
that there was on his face while he was doing that was greater than when he received the
presents. Through this action Radio teaches an amazing lesson of giving, loving, and
selflessness. After his mother dies, Radio is heartbroken and alone. Coach Jones continues to be
by his side, and in a moment of honesty, decides to share with his daughter why was he doing
what he was doing with Radio. He tells her the story about when he was a young boy and while
training through the woods, he saw a boy about his age, kept inside a fenced area. He did not
know what was wrong with him, but though he ran that route for two years, he never did anything
about it . Radio appears to be his second chance to do something, a chance to redeem himself, to
make a difference. Though more people become sensible to Radio, the coach s mentoring incites
angry opposition from a local banker, Frank Clay whose bullying son, Johnny is the town s star
athlete. Frank and his friends think that the football team is distracted by Radio s cheerleading and

What s That Awful Smell? 6 Signs You Need To Call A Plumbing Company For Obnoxious Odors

The plumbing system of your home can emit all kinds of smells, even beyond the ordinary (or
extraordinary, depending) smells attributed to the humans. There s methane, sulfur and ammonia
like nitrogen, to name a few and while they are normal per se, when your plumbing fixtures start to
smell really bad, you need to do something, right away.
1. A Swampy Smell Every Time You Flush

4. Bad Smells Coming From Every Drain In The House
If multiple drains are giving you indications of an internal plumbing issue, you might want to call
the plumbing company right away or contact your local sewer department. A home wide smell is
a likely sign of a broken or otherwise blocked sewage line leading up the home s underground
plumbing system. The pipes closest to your house are suppose to carry waste away to the town or
city s main lines, but when something causes them to not function, it can get very smelly, very
quickly. This is rarely a do it yourself situation, so contact a professional as soon as you realize
you have such a widespread challenge on your hands.
5. Nauseating Basement Specific Drains
Should only the basement drains be causing nausea, it s a good bet your branch line is backed
up, especially if there unpleasantries are accompanied by water gushing up, too. The branch line
consists of horizontal pipes that are too long for any type of chemical agent to be effective in,
making it necessary to either open up the pipe system yourself to manually remove the backlog of
clogs or refer to a plumber.
6. An Ambiance Of Raw Sewage Throughout The Home
A home that reeks of raw sewage isn t something anyone should have to bear and if you re faced
with this disgusting fate, you need to check the venting pipes, or hire someone else to. Venting
pipes are designed to essentially vacuum malodorous air from your home and send it outside,

Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune Review
Online slot developers have drawn from an endless source of pop culture references and
intellectual properties, all in the effort to bring you a casino experience featuring characters and
settings you know and love. This brand new release proudly draws from the 1960s TV show
featuring Batman and Mr Freeze, while cautiously avoiding any reference to the Schumacher film
that hardly did the characters justice.
The number of slots games featuring comic book characters has increased quite considerably over
the past several years, with Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune looking to get in the hunt. Question is,
will this Ash Gaming release live up to hype? Tuck into our review below to find out!
Like a 1960s crime fighting caper
Developed by up and coming industry name Ash Gaming, Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune draws
inspiration from its earlier titles. That being said, while still offering several of its own unique
features, this game manages to pay sufficient homage to its source material. Batman and Mr Freeze
Fortune game draws mostly from the campy 1960s movie featuring Adam West. As can be
expected it is lovingly cheesy and self referential all throughout.
Plenty of homages and references to the show can be seen, and older fans of the series will be
delighted by the nostalgic throwback this game represents. Overall, while hammy, the design of
Batman and Mr Freeze Fortune has a certain nostalgic appeal.

Ulysses As A Hero In The Adventures Of Ulysses
A hero is always described as one who stands for the common good of people, whether it be an
archetype of a typical hero from fabled descend or those who are unexpectedly deemed a hero in
everyday lives. Bernard Evslin s adventure fiction, The Adventures of Ulysses, illustrates the life of
Ulysses ten years after fighting alongside the Greeks in the Trojan War. He encounters trials and
tribulations such as, unknown seas and numerous inconceivable monsters to hopefully return to
his rightful place as king of Ithaca. Some of his trials take place on the islands of Lotusland,
Aeaea, and a narrow strait to Thrinacia. On Lotusland, Ulysses is met with an inescapable urge
to sleep because Morpheus, the son of Hypnos and nephew of Hades, orders the natives to feed
Ulysses and his crew intoxicating flowers to make them fall into a deep slumber. Ulysses also
finds himself with a challenge on the island of Aeaea because of Circe, an enticing goddess
sorceress who turns any man into an animal. He also comes across the Sirens, bird like women
who lure sailors to shipwreck with their enchanting sounds of happiness, sadness, autumn, and
silence, on his way to Thrinacia. Ulysses is a hero because he possesses the essential
characteristics of a typical hero. He proves and displays his heroic traits of strength, intelligence,
and selflessness. Obviously, Ulysses vanquishes an ordeal that no ordinary man can triumph. When

The Decision Of The Court Essay
Dear. Ms Stewart, it is in the best interest of the country, and the Constitution that I urge you to not
allow for a set of specific guidelines to be put in place to tell the Justices of the Court, how to
interpret the Constitution. With the decision of Marbury v. Madison in 1803 the Court established
its power of Judicial review(Judicial Learning Center, Web insert hyperlink), and it is up to the
Justices to decide when and how the Constitution will be interpreted. This memo will address the
following issues with creating guidelines for Justices in the Supreme Court The first problem with
the idea of the set of guidelines on how to interpret the constitution is the fact that it undermines the
relationship between the Constitution and the Court. Chief Justice Hughes once said the job of the
court is to maintain a living Constitution whose broad provisions are continually applied to
complicated new situations (U.S Supreme Court Hughes). This means that the Court uses the
Constitution as a way to interpret new laws, and cases that are appealed all the way up to the court.
Nevertheless, it must be noted that Chief Justice states that the Court must maintain a living
Constitution . This word choice is intentional and deliberate. Unlike a typical Constitution that only
has the merit of what is explicitly stated on the document, a living constitution is a document
changes over time, and adapts to new circumstances, without being formally amended(Strauss,
2010, Web).

Theme Of Water In Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Written Task 2 The Symbol of Water within Samuel Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Romantic literature writers commonly input elements of nature within their writing to express their
opinions. Samuel Taylor Coleridge includes the most abundant form of nature, water, within The
Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Water, in its various forms, symbolizes the power and force of
nature in both the natural and spiritual world. Water in the form of ice represents imprisonment
and the harsh acts that nature imposes as a punishment. The Mariner the main character of the
ballad says that the ice was all between. / The ice was here, the ice was there, / the ice was all

crew by not letting them have any fresh water as punishment for their actions, and the irony of
the drought is how there is water everywhere but they still are in a drought, constantly being
teased by nature; also, in attempts to describe the degree of irony, water is repeated twice
highlighting the access of water that is unavailable. The water is also described as like a witch s

water that they need to live, and continues the entrapment of the crew as punishment. Nearing the

of water and imprisonment (547 548). Water continuously represents the harsh punishments of
nature, specifically eliciting fear in the Mariner as words such as dread and rumbled impose fear

punishment using irony and imprisonment through the element of water excessively. Samuel

Therefore, using third party prospectors will initiate research and production units with the
motivation of having a ready high end market for the products (Roy, 2013).
Cost plus pricing
The ideal pricing strategy for Whole Foods Market will adopt the cost plus pricing strategy that
takes into account the cost of operations or cost of production plus a constant profit. The organic
food market analysis in Namibia indicates that there is a structured market with specific
consumer. Organic foods are better produced locally than flown from abroad. Therefore, the cost
of producing these foods using the local resources will be expected to reduce the retail cost
because local production costs are not equal to abroad production costs (Chris, et al., 2005).
Another important pricing strategy ideal for Whole Foods Market is to use psychology of
pricing such that the retailer analyses the responses of the market and develop a pricing strategy
ideal to that consumer response. However, psychological pricing will depend on the quality of
organic foods and consumer services the company is going to offer to its consumers in the foreign

While finding a last minute book for his class, he discovered in a footnote that the Massachusetts Archives had the names of the Shaysites, not just the names of the leaders, but some four thousand names. With most rebellions, finding out who participated is difficult, making this unusual. Again by accident, Richards learned that the university library had the pertinent state archives on microfilm. After working through the bad handwriting, Richards found out that the standard story he was taught made little sense. Government officials quickly scrambled to calm the mass panic which resulted in the speedy passing of the Patriot Act. The Patriot, or what is more formally known as the Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism act, was established to provide the government with the implements it needed to stop terrorists operating on American soil. While the Patriot Act does have an important goal of obstructing terrorism, it achieves this goal at the expense of our individual liberties given to us by the Constitution. Firstly, the Patriot Act violates the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitutionby allowing the government to conduct secret searches of citizens property undermining the amendment s principle of search and seizure only with a warrant. The Fourth Amendment protects us from searches and seizures without a warrant or probable cause. However, sections of the Patriot Act can be seen undermining this American prerogative. The Poverty Of The United Kingdom Essay Child contingent support In the United Kingdom, a commitment to end child poverty forever was a stated key ambition of the incoming Labour administration in 1997 (Blair, 1999). Many of the measures designed to achieve this outcome (or the marginally more modest intention to halve child poverty by 2010) were about the provision of new or enhanced services rather than the transfer of resources. Stewart (2013, 5) estimates that spending on child contingent benefits and tax credits more or less doubled across the period of Labour government, while child related services saw a dramatic increase from around ВЈ 671 per child in 1997/8 to ВЈ2,514 per child in 2009/10. Part of this increase related to the Sure Start programme and the funded expansion of early education. There was also legislation to increase the duration of maternity leave and to implement statutory paternity leave. A commitment to lowering staff pupil ratios in state schools was part of a (long term) investment in the well being of children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Increased expenditure on pre school childcare was also seen as easing the route back to work for mothers with young children (Stewart 2013). There was a further step change in the resources directed to children (via their parents). This included an increase in the universal child benefit where spending increased in real terms (at 2009/10 prices) from ВЈ9,134 million (in 1997/8) to ВЈ12,460 million (in 2009/10). There was ... February 14 The Race Towards Independence In the 1770 s, Great Britain established a number of colonies in North America. The Americans thought of themselves as citizens of Great Britain and subjects of King George III. Over the span of ten years, Great Britain has experienced deterioration in their relationship with the thirteen colonies. There were numerous factors that came into play in relation to the conflict such as the Navigation Acts and Colonial Legislatures, which eventually led to the Revolutionary War of April 1776. What started out as a minor conflict concluded with a war for Independence. It all started when the British went to war with the French also known as the French and Indian War. Following their victory in the French and Indian War in 1763, Great Britain took control of the French holdings in North America, outside the Caribbean. The British sought to maintain peaceful relations with those Indian tribes that had allied with the French, and keep them separated from the American frontiersmen. To this end, the Royal Proclamation of 1763 restricted settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains as this was designated an Indian Reserve. Nagel disputes that even if this is true, that shouldn t give us the perception that our lives our absurd. He explains this by restating that our lives will not matter in the future and in that case then what happens in the future does not matter now. If this chain of justification continuously led to another justification, it would be an infinite regress. This leads the reader to accept that it should end in life if anything else at all. Yet, Nagel still believes that our lives our absurd and gives several reasons that he thinks support this idea. Nagel depicts that the sense that life as a whole is absurd comes from the realization that we are incapable of dispelling doubts, even towards things we are inherently sure about. This leads us to learn that if we can t rid ourselves of these doubts, we are unqualified to justify our most central commitments, and in turn without a justification to our most central commitments, our lives are absurd or meaningless. Nagel claims that with this information, we can come to the conclusion that life is absurd and how should we handle this? One main similarity between Asians and Americans is that both seek for the best quality of life they possibly deserve. The Asian culture is very communal and family orientated, unlike the American culture, Americans tend to be very independent and individually orientated. An interesting topic that I came across was how Asian and Americans interpret directness. In the Asian culture people tend to value politeness above directness. On the other hand Americans tend to value directness over being polite, in other words Americans lay it out how it is and Asians tend to sugar coat it. Other distinctive behaviors that differentiate from Asian and Americans are how they feel about working hard. Asians value hard work above play and Americans feel play ... However, due to amateurism regulations set by the NCAA, the college athletes that generate the massive revenue the NCAA receives are not paid at all. The article opens with the argument that college athletes should be paid for their play. In fact, collegiate athletes are not permitted to use their own image for personal profit, as it violates the NCAA s rules on amateurism. Paying college athletes has been debated and argued about for years, with tensions increasing on both sides. However, one idea remains clear. The NCAA needs to compensate college athletes, and can do so through salaries, compensation for games played, or through endorsement deals. The NCAA is one of the largest sports organizations in the world, representing college athletics through three divisions and over twenty different sports. It is a multi billion dollar business that brings in revenue through ticket sales, television contracts, and sale of memorabilia. However, with none of the profits going towards the athletes themselves, the NCAA is using their students for personal gain within the organization. There are multiple ways the NCAA profits off its athletes, by undervaluing players and giving them less compensation because of it, as well as limiting their opportunities to make money on their own. Critics of compensating college athletes claim that the scholarships the players receive is enough compensation for their play, as well as earning an education. John Thelin of Time Magazine states that since scholarships are not taxed, it becomes a better deal for athletes. He says an athlete with a $65,000 scholarship would be more financially ... The Characteristics Of John Wooden s Definition Of Success John Wooden once said, Success is peace of mind attained only through self satisfaction and knowing you ve made the effort, do the best of what you re capable. This quote is relevant to the question of what success is to me. This is relevant to the question of what is the definition of success because John Wooden s definition of success is near perfect. To give you a better understanding, I will use three different traits from the Pyramid of Success. I will explain to you why these are related to success. Finally, I will use examples from the skype that our History in the Movies class had with former basketball player, Bobby Plump. The first trait from the Pyramid of Success that I think creates success is Confidence. I think confidence is a really big deal when it comes to success. If you come into a sports game and you believe that you and your team will come out victorious, than you and your team will play at higher levels. It doesn t matter if the challengers have more talent, it matters who has more heart. When Bobby Plump put up a shot when he played basketball, he didn t this it was going to miss, he thought it was going through the net every single time. In the movie Hoosiers, when Jimmy Chitwood (Bobby Plump), shot the ball, he could be moving, fading away, or the shot could be heavily contested and he would miss sometimes. But after all, he kept shooting because he was confident. Confidence doesn t just pass for sports, it is also a trait you should hold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ms Stewart, it is in the best interest of the country, and the Constitution that I urge you to not allow for a set of specific guidelines to be put in place to tell the Justices of the Court, how to interpret the Constitution. With the decision of Marbury v. Madison in 1803 the Court established its power of Judicial review(Judicial Learning Center, Web insert hyperlink), and it is up to the Justices to decide when and how the Constitution will be interpreted. This memo will address the following issues with creating guidelines for Justices in the Supreme Court The first problem with the idea of the set of guidelines on how to interpret the constitution is the fact that it undermines the relationship between the Constitution and the Court. Chief Justice Hughes once said the job of the court is to maintain a living Constitution whose broad provisions are continually applied to complicated new situations (U.S Supreme Court Hughes). This means that the Court uses the Constitution as a way to interpret new laws, and cases that are appealed all the way up to the court. Nevertheless, it must be noted that Chief Justice states that the Court must maintain a living Constitution . This word choice is intentional and deliberate. Unlike a typical Constitution that only has the merit of what is explicitly stated on the document, a living constitution is a document changes over time, and adapts to new circumstances, without being formally amended(Strauss, 2010, Web). ...
