It discusses how former professor Ruth Sullivan analyzed Kesey's use of Freudian psychology in the progression and impact of the characters Nurse Ratched, R.P. McMurphy, and Chief Bromden. 2. Suffragettes Movie Essay
An Analysis of the movie entitled, Suffragette
The year was 1912 in London, England. Women lived at the mercy of their fathers, brothers,
husbands and bosses; clearly a patriarchal society. Women s lives consisted of keeping house and
raising children and caring for their families. Those who worked outside of the home were limited
to menial labor, earned significantly less than men, and surrendered their earnings to their
husbands. Any inheritance of real estate or money a woman may have received was given to her
husband and, most often, she had nothing to say about how it was managed or spent. A woman
could not vote or run for office, and received little support, should she desire an education other
than a finishing school. (Clearly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women would demand the right to become solicitors, cabinet members, judges. (Morgan)
Inspired by actual events, this film is a story of the suffragette as told through the experiences of the
fictional character of Maud Watts (played by Carey Mulligan). Reluctant at first, Maud commits
herself to the suffrage cause when her husband throws her out of the house, she loses her job, and
her only child is put up for adoption. While there are many poignant scenes in this film, one was
when she told her son to remember her name and pleaded with him to look for her when he was
older.
The film shows the brutality experienced by Suffragettes as they were beaten and arrested and
force fed while incarcerated when they refused to eat.
Final memorable moment
Perhaps the most memorable scene in the film was after being trampled to death at the Epsom
Derby, the director employed actual footage of Emily s funeral procession which showed thousands
of suffragettes walking behind her casket while thousands more lining the streets. The death of
Emily Davidson; that one single event, was the pebble that rippled around the world, and finally
sparked the beginning of

3. Identifying The Right Candidate As The Biggest Challenge A...
Identifying and Hiring. The interviewee considered recruiting and identifying the right candidate as
the biggest challenge a human resource professional faces. They need to be good at identifying and
securing the services of the best candidates. Resourcefulness and adeptness in how to locate and
attract individuals with the best fit in an organization are challenging for a human resource
professional.
Employee Terminations or Layoffs. The interviewee also considered the legal issues that arise as
a result of carrying out employee terminations or layoffs as a major challenge facing human
resource professionals. The process is stressful as even a single misstep can expose the company to
the possibility of an expensive lawsuit.

Management with metrics allows an organization to have a true measure of how it has reached its
goals and objectives as well as act as an evaluation and analysis tool (Rees Smith, 2014).
Ethical Issues Faced by HR Professionals
Some of the ethical issues faced by human resource professionals include:
Cash and Compensation Plans. There exist ethical issues pertaining to remuneration, executive
compensation, and incentive plans. There is pressure to raise the base of salaries or pay more
incentives to executives for the human resource managers.
Gender, Race, and Disability. Most organizations differentiated employees based on gender, race,
origin, status or disability until recently as the laws and regulations have standardized the conduct
of employers and employees. An organization should only differentiate employees on the basis of
performance and should avoid discriminatory practices.
Privacy. Individuals working in an organization have personal sides to their existences, which they
would want to be respected and not intruded. An employee might prefer that some details about
their lives are private and this might clash with an employer s need to do so. For instance, mail
scanning might be done if an employee is suspected to be misusing company resources.
Some of these ethical issues will not see changes in the near future. For instance, an issue like
compensation will always be a challenge as long as a company pays for labor. The issue of

4. Shaun Callarman s Into The Wild
Into The Wild was a tremendous story which Shaun Callarman did not have many positive things
to say about Chris McCandless, the main character. He went on this adventure to find out what
life is all about in his own eyes. He wanted to see how different living in the wild really was
compared to society because he was not satisfied with his living arrangements and household. Shaun
s quote says that he thinks Chris McCandless was bright and ignorant at the same time. He had no
common sense, and he had no business going into Alaskawith his Romantic silliness. He made a
lot of mistakes based on arrogance. I don t admire him at all for his courage nor his noble ideas.
Really, I think he was just plain crazy, shows that Shaun believes Chris had no common sense in
his doing for leaving society for the wild. I agree with Callarman s position for thinking he had no
common sense and that he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think he just wanted to pursue life in a different way. Chris was not seeing life the way anyone
else was so he decided to brush off into the wild and be free on his own. Though he did not survive
he was still a very bright, arrogant human being. Shaun Callarman states, He had no common
sense, and he had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness. Chris knew going
into the wild that he did not have much survival skills but that did not stop him from doing what
he wanted to do because he did not care about society and was just completely over everything
which was why he made the move to the wilderness. This clearly shows us that Chris did not have
much common sense. If he had better survival skills and common sense he probably would have
known not to eat that poisonous berry. It was his dream to be in the wild and he decided to
pursue it. I respect his decisions and i personally believe it was a good decision other than the fact
of him dying. He made the infinitive decision to do all of this so why stop

5. Mississippi Burning Text Analysis
Text Response Mississippi Burning Do the ends justify the means ? The film, Mississippi
Burning (1988), directed by Alan Parker and starring Willem Dafoe and Gene Hackman, delves
into the story of two FBI agents who travel to the state of Mississippi in order to investigate the
disappearance of three civil right activists. Two agents, Rupert Anderson and Alan Ward, utilise
various different methods in order to obtain the crucial information needed to resolve this case and
gain closure. It is prominently argued throughout the film whether these investigational procedures
are deemed to be fair and morally just towards the people of Mississippi. Hence, allowing for

Lester feeling a great amount of fear as he was chased by FBI Klan impersonators, Lester s wife
and baby at risk when bullets were shot at their house and agent Anderson throwing Deputy
Clinton around a barber shop were all the consequences of the FBI s catastrophic schemes. The
agents of the FBI caused a number of people to be harmed as an outcome of their mortifying acts
to withdraw information which, subsequently, strengthens the belief that the ends truly do not
justify the means . The information obtained from the unorthodox tactics of the FBI will fail to
be used as evidence in court. The FBI agents acquired information from certain individuals will
be rejected in court due to the methods of torture the FBI forced the individuals to undergo. The
FBI s investigational procedures will also be declared as duress and hearsay by the court as
sufficient evidence is lacking to prosecute the defendant and the means to extract the information
out of the individual, such as the Mississippian Mayor, is certainly of a barbaric nature. Just
remember whose rights you re violatin !, ([Alan Ward screamed at Rupert Anderson], Mississippi
Burning, 1988). Additionally, the FBI are violating their own code of conduct and the civil rights
of others by torturing and threatening specific citizens of Mississippi, such as when the FBI agents
arrived at the area Lester was working and pushed him to come along with them this,

6. The Real Unemployment Rate
The Real Unemployment Rate
Jessi Stevenson
July 14th, 2015
Macroeconomics
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
The unemployment rate in the United States of America is a topic that is often scrutinized and
discussed among economists, politicians and fellow citizens. Frequently newscasters are
advertising monthly unemployment rate, and I ask myself this question: Is the rate being
published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) actually the true figure, or is the real number
being misrepresented? In effort to answer this question, one has to understand the breakdown of
the U.S. population as it relates to the actual labor force. One also has to comprehend who the
government considers to be unemployed. I will be analyzing the current statistical numbers
provided by the BLS, as well providing a detailed analysis of the government s perspective as to
what is deemed to be employed and unemployed. As mentioned in our text, Economics (Arnold,
2011), the total U.S. population is broken up into two separate groups. They are as follows: 16
years and under, the armed forces, and the institutionalized (these 3 sections make up the first
group). The second group consists of all others in the total population labeled the civilian non
institutional population. The civilian non institutional population is made up of two groups those
in the labor force, and those not in the labor force. Those who are considered to be in the labor
force are either employed or

7. Different Type of Budgeting Technique
Budgeting lies at the foundation of every financial plan. It doesn t matter if you re living
paycheck to paycheck or earning six figures a year, you need to know where your money is going
if you want to have a handle on your finances. Unlike what you might believe, budgeting isn t all
about restricting what you spend money on and cutting out all the fun in your life. It s really about
understanding how much money you have, where it goes, and then planning how to best allocate
those funds. Here s everything you need to help you create a budgetusing different approach.
(a)Incremental Budgeting
This is where the current budget and actual figures act as the starting point or base for the new
budget. The base is adjusted for forecast changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words Managers might have overestimated their requirements in the past in order to
obtain a forecast which is easier to work towards, and which will allow them to achieve
favorable results. * Does not account for change This method is based on the idea that expenses
will run pretty much as they did before. However, in business, this is rarely the case. There are
always variables. * No incentives Such a simple method of budgeting really does not provide
your employees with much reason to be creative. They have no incentive to innovate and come
up with new ideas or policies. When a budget allows a little extra room for innovation, you might
find that your employees come up with something great. * Use it or lose it Many employees view
this as a use it or lose it system. They know that next year s budget is going to be incrementally
based on this year s. Therefore, if they do not spend everything that is allocated to them, they may
not have enough money to work with next year. This creates an environment where waste is
encouraged.
(b)Zero Based Budgeting this method was briefly popular during the 1970s but didn t quite make
it as a widely held practice. Yet in today s current business set up, the method is being revived and
regarded as the better approach.

The Most Hated Family In America The topic of homosexuality has been a very hot topic over
the past several decades. The term homosexuality can be defined as the sexual desire or behavior
towards a person or persons of one s own sex ( Homosexuality ). There are many people who
either agree or disagree with the aspect of homosexuality, and there are others who are indifferent.
Many Christian churches around the world, especially in the United States, have stated their
opinion against homosexuality. They based their beliefs in the verses in 1st Corinthians 6: 9 10,
which says, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not

If one reads this manual, especially how the Baptists base their doctrine, one would see that the
Westboro Baptist Church is wrong in many aspects, to such extent that they should not be called
Baptists. The Westboro Baptist Church s main purpose is to promote hate; hate towards America,
towards the world, and towards anybody who lives in this world and accepts homosexuality, or
fags as they call them, into our society ( God Hates Fags ). They use picketing as a source to
express their opinion is a very hateful way, to the point that it makes any person passing by
uncomfortable and even express their anger towards them. In The Most Hated Family In America
film, there are several instances where one can see the Phelps family discouraging the population
by yelling that they are all going to hell, and that God hates this world for accepting the ways of
the world. They don t care if the person is Christian or not, according to them, the world has no
salvation (Theroux). In page 62 of the Baptist manual, it states that Baptist should believe in
justification , because it includes that pardon of sin (Hiscox). This is clear evidence that the
Westboro church does not go by the manual of Baptists. The most horrifying thing that these people
do is to picket at soldier funerals. With a smile on their faces and joy in their hearts, they stand in a
corner shouting,

9. Lack Of Systemic Evaluation And Financial Resources Essay
The very bare existence of any organization is profit maximization through a series of inputs
maneuvered by a mixture of mechanical and human activity. Though businesses evaluate their
machine via depreciation, human evaluation remains their only challenge. To face this
challenge, Human resources managers and business leaders put together a system called:
Employee Performance Appraisal which sets to evaluate employees on a yearly basis. This
process often causes tension between employees and employers because it fails to do away with
biases and prejudices. So, it is hardly ever that an employee receives a fair performance
evaluation. Many kinds of bias can show up during the performance appraisal process. The most
common ones occur when managers or appraisers compare two employees performance against
each other while using only one form for each department, a process that discourages smart and
strong employees from seeking higher ranks within. Some argue that lack of systemic evaluation
and financial resources is to blame. The intent of this paper is to address the various kind of bias
and show they affect negatively both the organization and its employees. In addition, valuable time
and resources are wasted conducting interviews and meeting that are inefficient. Time that could
have been used to enhance productivity and training for employees, is now allocated to either to
degrade, demean, demotivate employees. Such behavior is always perceived as bias. Consequently,

10. Henry Fleming In Red Badge Of Courage
Henry Fleming is a teenager with romantic notions about the glories of war. He enlists in the
Union army and quickly discovers sides of himself he never knew existed. The horrors, boredom,
and complete injustice of war bring out all of Henry s worst (and occasionally best) tendencies.
Initially, Henry fears that he will run like a coward when faced with his first battle. He s been in
the army for a while now but hasn t seen any action yet. Talking with the other men, he tries to
get them to admit that they are scared as well. No one wants to say as much; they all seem
perfect examples of fearless men, which leaves Henry feeling even worse about his own
apprehension. Shortly before his first battle, he sees his first dead body, a gruesome corpse.
Meanwhile we meet two men, Jim Conklin or the Tall Soldier whom Henry has known for years,
and Wilson or the Loud Soldier. Wilson, afraid that he will die in battle, gives Henry a packet of
letters to deliver to his family after the war. When the fighting finally starts, Henry doesn t do too
badly. However, when a second round of fighting begins after a brief lull, Henry is terrified and
heads for the hills. Afterwards, he tries to rationalize his decision (to himself) by claiming it was
simply a survival instinct. He oscillates between a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

take up the flag, and rally their comrades to fight. Afterwards, the superior officers praise this
courageous action. In the novel s final battle, Henry captures the Confederate flag as well and helps

11. My Journey In My Life
When I was a child, my father always came to me and told me a quote, but over the years I have
changed it into my own and now I live by it everyday: Tomorrow is a brand new day, and a gift
from yesterday. If you ve failed, rise from your ashes and create your own path and leave a trail
behind because you cannot take others paths to live your life. Life is your adventure and what
you make of it. I have always loved life and the people that are in it. Since I was a child I have had
the biggest dreams of going and doing anything I wanted to be and that nothing was going to stop
me. To pursue and make that any dream come true I focused on these three things: being
determined, encouraging others, and hardworking.
To begin with, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the first semester, we will be shadowing nurses in the Salida Hospital and seeing what they
deal with hand on hand.
With that, I have always loved helping people break not only from their comfort zone but helping
them achieve better than they have before. An example of this is when someone needs help, I ask
them what is stopping them from achieving, I push and make them fight for what they want. This
same tactic is what a nurse needs to help her/him succeed in encouraging patients that they can do
it. I attended the 2017 Summer Student Council Camp, and just telling my story of pushing
through my rough patch in my life encouraged others to say to themselves they don t only have it
hard too , and I saw personally how my story affected them and they pushed harder and took life in
a different perspective.
Additionally, I have always put my heart and soul into all that I do, I have always strived and
been a very hardworker. For instance, I worked weeks on a paper for entering the Sangre De Cristo
Youth Tour for the Colorado Electric Assassination and after all my hours of putting thoughtand
organizing papers, I won the trip to Washington DC through my Electric Co op, which was an
honor all in itself. After all my recovering after surgery I kept on my game and I was later
rewarded as student of the month. During school hours teachers have to teach instead of printing
off their papers, so that is where I come in. I have been a teacher assistant for

12. Apocalypse Now Symbolism Essay
According to Tommy Douglas, Man can now fly in the air like a bird, swim under the ocean like
a fish, he can burrow into the ground like a mole. Now if only he could walk the earth like a
man, this would be paradise. The use of birds have been used as different symbols in literature
has been prevalent during our readings, some literature I would like to emphasis on is the film
Apocalypse Now directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Heart
of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, The Birds Daphne du Maurier, the musical art work of Charlie
Parker Ornithology.
The use of birds has been present to most of these books and film adaptations, but one film that had
a lot bird like symbols was the film Apocalypse Now. What is the meaning behind this? Well, the
reason why I think they would use helicopters in the film is that it shows how the technologically
advance, the Americans were compared to the savages . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this movie it involves a lot of symbolism that ranges from money to greed. One part of the
movie that shows a great example of this is when Melanie Daniels (portrayed by Tippi Hedren)
and Mitch Brenner (portrayed by Rod Taylor) was in the Davidson s pet store. In the pet store
when both Melanie and Mitch were having a conversation, Mitch asked if it was horrible having
all the birds in their cages. What is the meaning of the cage in The Birds? Well, the film is trying

Corporate groups can be defined as a company structure where several companies are
interconnected through contract shareholding or as Dine says, By interlocking dictatorships. In
these structure holding companies usually have control and influence over subsidiaries. Limited
liability on the other hand, is the logical consequence of the existence of a separate legal entity or
generally, the concept simply means that since the company is different from the shareholders, the

investors: Since modern governments want to see enterprise flourish, they attach great value to

15. The Importance Of Miranda Warnings
Juveniles, particularly younger juveniles, are unable to comprehend the Miranda warning, and, by
extension, exercise their Miranda rights, for biological reasons, specifically their developmental
immaturity. According to Rogers et al. s study (Rogers, Blackwood, Fidducia, Steadham, Drogin,
Rogstad 2012), Miranda warnings are inherently incomprehensible to juveniles because they
demand an advanced level of reading comprehension most often not yet attained by the juveniles.
The study consolidated a sum of 293 juvenile Miranda warnings issued in 238 counties in 38 states
and used the Flesch Kincaid, a commonly accepted estimate of grade level used in other Miranda
related research and that corresponds with standardized reading tests, to gauge grade level
estimates. Rogers et al. found that 2.2% of Miranda waivers were written at a college graduate
level, 5.2% necessitated some college preparation, and 52.1% of Miranda warnings necessitated at
least an eighth grade education, which poses a significant threat to particularly underserved preteen
suspects. Only 7.3% of juvenile warnings were marked as easily comprehensible or at below a fifth
grade education level, which would optimize juvenile comprehension. It s significant to note that
juveniles cannot then intelligently waive their Miranda rights if the language exceeds their reading
comprehension level. Grisso et al. demonstrate this understanding of juveniles developmental
immaturity in their comprehensive study concerning

Trade Deficit grows as strong Dollar hurts Exports. According to this article trade deficit grows
as strong Dollar hurts exports found on the New York Times website, the United States trade
deficit grew moderately in May of 2015, as reported by commerce department during the week
of July 2015. This reflects the decline in sales of American made Aircraft and Machinery as
exports continuously suffer from the strong Dollar. The month of April had a deficit that is
imbalanced of 40.7 Billion dollars. During the month of May, it increased to 2.9 percent leading
it to be at 41.9 billion Dollars. American goods became less competitive in foreign markets this
year because of the rising value of the dollar, which affect and hurt the American producers.
Imports decreased 0.1 percent to 230.5 billion dollars. Exports decreased at a faster pace of 0.8
percent to 188.6 billion dollars. Even though there was a slight increase in May, the deficit in the
last two months together average less than what it averaged in the first quarter. Maybe that would
help raise the growth in the second quarter. Trade decreased nearly two percentage points off
growth in the first three months of the year. The big drag from trade combined with a severe
winter sent the economy right into reserve which caused an annual rate of 0.2 percent during the
January to March period of time. According to Analysts, a narrowing of the trade deficit in the

within particular social contexts and constraints. Against dominant representations of others there is
resistance. Within structures of dominance, there is agency.

22. Analysis Of Plato s Republic And Aristotle s Politics
Mercedes Chien
Dr. Joel Klein
Contemporary Civilization
2 November 2015
Family in Political Society
Plato s Republic and Aristotle s Politics both accredit nature to the teleological functions of men,
women, and children. Nevertheless, each philosopher defines family differently to support their
main goals of finding the right type of society. While Plato does not conform to the traditional
definition of a family with a husband, wife, and children and instead defines the role of men and
women separately, Aristotleuses the family as a microcosm of political society, in the hopes of
showing readers how to create a just society for the former and a virtuous one for the latter.
Plato describes the Kallipolis the ideal city for the ancient Greeks in his Republic. The
Kallipolis prides itself on abiding by the truth of justice, which Plato defines as a citizen doing
one s one work that fits his character (Plato 119). By doing one s own work, the citizen is
contributing to the greater good of society, which Plato coins as the ultimate key to justice
accordingly, the better [will be ruling] the worse, [which] is to be described as temperate and
master of itself (117). This specialization characterizes the role of family in the political society
one that consists of each individual doing one s own work to contribute to the greater good.
However, the family in the Republic is so loosely created that readers may interpret the family as
nonexistent in Plato s novel.

Throughout the entire poem, there is an abundance of imagery that presents both heartbreak and
peacefulness in these last moments of life. Gregerson opens the poem by depicting a greening

Paper #2 The Catholic faith is based on this central figure, Jesus, who teaches them how to live in a
manner according to the ultimate creator: God. There are ways to view Jesus in the modern day
through different means of interaction. One way of interaction with Jesus is achieved when people
attend church on Sundays to ensure that they are live according to God through their daily
activities. Another way Christians see interaction with Jesusis through Mary and the saints because
Mary and the saints are ideal examples of Jesus. These interactions are essential to the Catholic
faith, but the most important reappearance of Jesus is through the Sacraments. Essentially, the
Sacraments are a way of getting inside of the Bible by committing to the same actions that Jesus
performed in the Bible. By conducting the sacraments, a person is considered to be transformed by
doing the same things Jesus did. The reappearance of Jesus is best viewed through the Sacraments,
more specifically in An Introduction to Catholicism through the explanation of the concept of
sacramentality, which encompasses baptism, confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist. In order to grasp
an understanding of the Sacraments, a person must first understand the concept of sacramentality.

the West Branches, which are managed by the West LA Library Branch Manager. This manager
receives orders and guidelines to follow from the head office. Next in the line of command, is the
head librarian. The head librarian is responsible to the West Branch manager. Within the library
itself and helping the head librarian, are four other librarians. Each librarian is in charge of
ordering and locating books, outreach programs and reading circles. Underneath them are the
clerks. The clerks are assigned to a particular librarian to take care of daily tasks such as counting
the cash, checking return boxes and deliveries, and reshelving books. Finally, the lowest in the
task force are the messenger clerks, who are part time employees who also work with particular
librarians. Each position is assigned specific tasks and assignments. The workplace is best
represented by the New Workplace, which offers flatter, more diverse and team centralized
management. In terms of management, the head librarian serves as a better leader by facilitating
self management with better and more open communication lines. The communication is two sided
and the head librarian when delegating tasks is very responsive and provides an open environment

Throughout the course of time, societies views have been persuaded by contextual influences, yet
the core human values have remained unaffected. Through the texts by composers William
Shakespeare and Tim Blake nelson and their texts Othello and the late 20th century contemporary
film O, the key values of trust, honesty and loyalty are explored with contextual influences being
reflected. The values are explored with the use of thematic development of the key issues jealousy
and appearance vs reality and the use of dramatic devices in Othelloand cinematic techniques in O.
Shakespeare s accurate representation explored these values in an Elizabethan context where the
values of loyalty, honour and fidelity were apparent. In contrast, Tim Blake nelsons film express
similar views and attitudes to a more teenage orientated audience and these values are replaced with
modern contextual values such as popular culture, peer pressure and popularity.
Jealousy plays a major role in Othello as it is the driving force which leads to the plays events
being carried out. The theme of jealousy is prevalent through characterization and the dishonoring
of the values of trust and loyalty. The character if Iago is the main who endures jealousy and
dishonours trust and loyalty which in the end he uses as a method to lead Othello to his downfall.

Santiago is the capital of Chile. It is currently the largest city in Chile. Santiago was founded in

Posted on an Internet forum, this comment from a Survivor fan demonstrates a key dynamic of the
fan community constructed around the program. This paper investigates elements of the audience
reception of the American reality TV show Survivor (Mark Burnett Productions for CBS, 2000 ,
US), and the comment above raises the central issue I aim to address here. By exploring the show
in terms of its fanculture and examining the Survivor fandomin relation to existing theoretical and
critical work on fandom, I will argue that through online activity, Survivor fans compete with one
another just as the contestants battle against each other in the weekly challenges on screen. It is

Spoiling practices, changing fan/producer dynamics, and new media and consumerist engagement
with the show has produced a competitive fan culture unique in its apparent anti communal and
decidedly negative undercurrents. What I have described as the often conflictual and competitive
nature of this fan culture or rather the picture of a selected aggregation of fans makes sense if one
considers that these fans didn t originate in a traditionally marginalized subculture (as with earlier
conceptions of sci fi fans, for instance). The Survivor fandom is conflictual because the source of
fans interest isn t the show, but rather the overall fractious and competitive culture itself. Fandom
scholarship and research on the Survivor fandom in particular will require continual analysis of fan
participation and online engagement, as dynamics seem to shift somewhat over time. Scholarship,
too, will need to begin more thoroughly incorporating fans use of new media as I have only

still a child she tends to take things for their literal meaning. However, she is ecstatic to become
an adult since she is determined to use feelings in her stories which would help her stories to
begin the transformation from princes and princesses to mature topics. Briony loses her
innocence when she discovered that reality is not like the stories she read when growing up.
Her innocence is taken from her when she realizes that by casting Robbie as a villain in her plot

Maya Angelou s poetry supports female defiance of stereotypes. The poem Phenomenal Woman
presents a female speaker who defies stereotypes in multiple ways. First, the speaker notes that she
lacks traditional aspects of female beauty, though still has power to draw men to her through her
womanhood and sexuality, as previously discussed. Secondly, the speaker, who can be assumed to
be Angelou, places men on their knees, in positions of servility to her, which contrasts the usual
patriarchal scenario with a womansubject to a man (18). Also, when describing her immediate
effect on a crowded room the speakers says, Then they swarm around me, / A hive of honey bees.

likely male and white given Angelou s background, if they prefer her with a broken spirit and lack

The cold sensation comes again, letting off a warning of the impending danger that was soon to
come. My insides churn, the things I had seen beforehand were burned into my memory, but for

particularly heavy today, the clouds a gray cluster of mess. I look at my beaten down leather

The double story house greets me with an intimidating stare. It was a Victorian style house, an

thing the house was full of, it was photos. They were everywhere, and for a strange reason, they

During the twentieth century alone the world s population increased from 1.65 billion to 6 billion

One of the many environmental problems faced today by human activity is deforestation.
Deforestation refers to the term used to describe the demolition of woodland, forest cover and
plantations to allow space for agriculture, industrialization or for urban uses. Forest clearance
which is associated with extreme local impacts such as loss of habitat, loss of biological
diversity and instability of slopes and soils (Hugget et al: 2004). There are many reasons for
deforestation, such as agricultural activities, urbanization, logging, mining and the desertification
of land (conserve energy future: 2014). According to the United Nations food and agriculture
organization every year almost eighteen million acres of forests are lost and destroyed each year
(FAO: 2014). The rapid and ever increasing rate of deforestation makes it very dangerous and

Lanthanides and Actinides
The lanthanides and the actinides make up the f block of the periodic table. The lanthanides are
the elements produced as the 4f sub level is filled with electrons and the actinides are formed
while filling the 5f sub level
Some significant similarities and differences between lanthanides and actinides are observed. The
two rows that are generally placed underneath the main periodic table are called the lanthanides
series and the actinides series. These two rows are produced when electrons are being added to f
orbitals.
Therefore this block of elements are referred to as the f block. The lanthanides are also

This is due to shielding of the unpaired electrons of the inner 4f orbital by the outer 5s, 5p, and
5d orbital s. Due to the small change in size of the ions, they show great similarity in their
chemical properties. The first few members are quite reactive. A few properties are given below.
All lanthanides react rapidly upon exposure to air.
They dissolve in hot water and react with acid with liberating hydrogen.
They act as a strong reducing agent because of the strong electro positive nature
They form the nitrides and hydrides after reacting with nitrogen and hydrogen respectively.
They also react with non metals like halogens, sulfur, phosphorus, carbon and silicon and form their
corresponding compounds.

The atomic size or ionic radii of tri positive lanthanide ions show a steady and gradual decrease
with the increase in atomic number from La to Lu. Although they show some irregularities but ionic
radii decrease steadily from La to Lu. This gradual decreasing in the size with increasing atomic
number is called lanthanide contraction.
Cause of lanthanide contraction
The major cause for lanthanide contraction is due to the inappropriate shielding of the 4f electrons
due to the improper shape of the f orbitals. As the atomic number increases in lanthanide series, for
every proton in the nucleus the extra electron

In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who
were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges
as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many
of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On
September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the
United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was
called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the
mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other
organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in
her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way
to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re
talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has credibility on the topic by saying
Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and
families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn more about the

Condition The Self cannot be pierced or burned, made wet or dry. It is everlasting and infinite,
standing on the motionless foundations of eternity. The Self is unmanifested, beyond all thought,
beyond all change. Knowing this, you should not grieve (Gita 2:24 25). The human condition is
described as ignorance of identity in that humans do not understand their divine nature. An
example was given in terms of the seeds of the banyan tree. The seeds of the tree can be seen but
within the seeds nothing can be seen yet the banyan tree comes from this nothingness. It is the
same in terms of people. People cannot perceive the divinity within themselves yet it is from this
divinity that everything exists. This is known as Maya. It is stated that one believes he is the
slayer, another believes he is the slain. Both are ignorant; there is neither slayer nor slain. You were
never born; you will never die. You have never changed; you can never change. Unborn, eternal,
immutable, immemorial, you do not die when the body dies. Realizing that which is indestructible,

Some people thought it was nasty and gross to go without shoes in crowded or public areas, but
the majority thought that it supported a good cause and were willing as well as excited to join the

We think that this will help boost participation and therefore awareness of the brands mission.
One way Toms could accomplish this is by arranging a video competition, which would ask
people to make their own video doing their daily activities barefoot. They would then be asked to
post the videos on Toms Facebook. Whomevers video got the most likes would win a reward or
