The Poets Husband and Pamela Painter author of The New Year have done a wonderful job of
providing a strong micro short story. The authors use a lot of symbolism and strong short sentences
that lead to an understanding of an unhappy relationship due to mistreatment. Although both stories
end differently they both leave the reader to connect with the characters about feeling forgotten.
Whether they have ever been in a relationship where they stayed even though they were unhappy
or the reader has ever been in a relationship where they themselves have cheated and have been
broken up with but continues to feel for what they could have had and through away for a quick
fling. It is important to keep in mind both angles of a failing relationship and when reading both of
these micro short stories the reader will feel surprisingly more sympathetic and educated in that

In ancient times, Helen of Troy was known far and wide for her astounding beauty. She was the
wife of Menelaus, a Greek king. She abandoned her husband for a young Trojan prince named
Paris. Menelaus enraged by his wife s betrayal, began preparations for what is known as the Trojan
War. Now in modern times many writers use this legend as poetic inspiration, but certainly view

In To Helen, she is portrayed as an iconic, goddess like beauty, while in Helen, she is viewed as
the bane of Greece and is described as frail and detested by others. What is noticed in the poem
Helen, is the increasing abhorrence towards her. Throughout the poem each stanza has a line
added on to it, symbolizing the increasingly negative feelings toward Helen. This change is
implemented into the poem because of how the people of Greece reminisce on past
enchantments and past ills. They begin to remember how much they praised Helen for her

This particular kylix is a good example because it shows how the women contradict each other and
through this piece we can understand the jobs of each type of woman and we can speculate how
they balanced one another out in Athenian society.
Adopting an Approach has many strong arguments and claims throughout the manuscript.
Particularly in the beginning, Beard does a great job of enticing the assumed college level reader
and relating to that specific audience. She does this when explaining, understanding the images
around us, by talking about a French perfume advertisement. By doing this, she relates to the age
group that would be reading this manuscript by combining something that they might be familiar
with, to something they are unfamiliar with. Although this is initially a strong way to go about
attracting the reader, it needs to be done at the right moments. On pages fourteen and fifteen, she
gives many more unrelated examples, which ultimately, causes the reader to forget the original
point trying to be made. Beard s claim needed to be made quicker, before the reader loses sight of
what the article is about. If this article were to be published in the Undergraduate s Guide to Art
History, I would eliminate a lot of the extra examples that aren t necessary to get

Love, joy, grief, pride, shame, hate, fear, envy. We all have emotions and we recognise emotions
in others. It is remarkable how often we are wrong about our own emotions and misread the
emotions of others. Philosophers often call emotions appropriate or inappropriate. Virtue ethicists
put a lot of importance to emotions and claim that emotions are an essential motivator of ethical
behaviour and we should ethically assess people s emotions responses directly (de Sousa 2014).
The rationality and moral significance of emotions remains debatable due to the ambiguous
questions about their justification. Many emotions seem to involve positive or negative evaluations
of their objects e.g. to be angry at me is to evaluate me negatively. However, emotions are not
necessarily tied to evaluative judgements, because we can be irrationally angry at someone even
though we judge that they have done nothing wrong. And so, D Arms Jacobson (2000) describe
emotions as involving evaluative presentations that do not force us to make the evaluative
judgement, but put pressure on us to make judgement. The question then, is how can we evaluate
emotional responses and whether such emotional responses are true or fitting or prudentially useful
or morally right? Many emotions are associated with beliefs or judgements. Empirical thinking is
primarily linked to experience in the sense that perceptual experiences can provide reasons for

I will admit that this is a strong counter, as it is reasonable to claim that the soldier with distorted
views should both acknowledge that his racist views would conflict with his behavior during the

Society looks down on women who are sexually active with more then one man or have sex all
the time. On the flipside of the situation men are prized and put on a high horse for having many
sexual partners. In most societies men ultimately decide what women can and cannot do, which
shouldn t be the case. A woman cannot be liberated or truly happy until she can make choices
non sexual or sexual by herself without the degrading opinions from men in society. In Women
at Point Zero, by Nawal EL Saadawi, Firdaus has never been able to make decisions in her life in
any manner, from the sexual surgery, to being married off to the older man with out her consent.
Her first real choice in life was when Bayoumi asked if she liked tangerine or oranges. When she
starts off as a prostitute she sees all these choices she can make and loves it. However towards
the end she realizes that she does not actually have any choices. The second time in her life she
really has any choice is when she is in prison. Firdaus s first sexual encounter is with a bout
named Mohammadain. They play a game called Bride and Bridegroom, this game involves them
taking off their clothes and rubbing against each other. Firdaus gets a sense of pleasure from it
and sadly this will be the last time she will get pleasure from a sexual activity. The reason for this

That said, in time when love failed his grand daughter Janine, Louis although inexpert in the
gestures of love (p.267) supported Janine in managing her own feelings of pain, betrayal, and
