Camel CLI (Camel JBang) provides an easy way to try Apache Camel without extensive configuration. It allows installing Camel dependencies with jbang, developing and running Camel integrations locally, and exporting projects to runtimes like Quarkus. Current features include dependency management, running Camel DSLs, hot reloading, and exporting to Spring Boot. Future plans include managing multiple integrations, improved health checks, and running on additional runtimes. Camel JBang aims to lower the barrier to experimenting with Camel.

Angular
Angular is a development platform for building mobile and desktop web applications using TypeScript/JavaScript. It is an update to AngularJS with a focus on mobile and typesafety. Major versions include Angular 1.x, 2.x, 4.x and 5.x. Angular uses components, services and modules to build applications with templates and styles. It is compiled to JavaScript using transpilation and supports AOT and JIT compilation. Common tools used with Angular include the Angular CLI, Webpack and Zone.js.
Angular Directives
The document summarizes Angular directives including ngIf, ngFor, ngSwitchCase, ngClass, and ngStyle. Kafka Streams: What it is, and how to use it?
Kafka Streams is a client library for building distributed applications that process streaming data stored in Apache Kafka. It provides a high-level streams DSL that allows developers to express streaming applications as set of processing steps. Alternatively, developers can use the lower-level processor API to implement custom business logic. Kafka Streams handles tasks like fault-tolerance, scalability and state management. It represents data as streams for unbounded data or tables for bounded state. Common operations include transformations, aggregations, joins and table operations.
Integrating microservices with apache camel on kubernetes
Apache Camel has fundamentally changed the way Java developers build system-to-system integrations by using enterprise integration patterns (EIP) with modern microservice architectures. In this session, we’ll show you best practices with Camel and EIPs, in the world of Spring Boot microservices running on Kubernetes. Spark and S3 with Ryan Blue
Netflix’s Big Data Platform team manages data warehouse in Amazon S3 with over 60 petabytes of data and writes hundreds of terabytes of data every day. At this scale, output committers that create extra copies or can’t handle task failures are no longer practical. This talk will explain the problems that are caused by the available committers when writing to S3, and show how Netflix solved the committer problem.

– About output committers, and how both Spark and Hadoop handle failures
– How HDFS and S3 differ, and why HDFS committers don’t work well
– A new output committer that uses the S3 multi-part upload API

Kafka 101
Kafka is a distributed messaging system that allows for publishing and subscribing to streams of records, known as topics. Producers write data to topics and consumers read from topics. The data is partitioned and replicated across clusters of machines called brokers for reliability and scalability. A common data format like Avro can be used to serialize the data.

When choosing an event streaming platform, Kafka shouldn’t be the only technology you look at. There are a plethora of others in the messaging space today, including open source and proprietary software as well as a range of cloud services. So how do you know you are choosing the right one? A great way to deepen our understanding of event streaming and Kafka is exploring the trade-offs in distributed system design and learning about the choices made by the Kafka project. We’ll look at how Kafka stacks up against other technologies in the space, including traditional messaging systems like Apache ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ as well as more contemporary ones, such as BookKeeper derivatives like Apache Pulsar or Pravega. This talk focuses on the technical details such as difference in messaging models, how data is stored locally as well as across machines in a cluster, when (not) to add tiers to your system, and more. By the end of the talk, you should have a good high-level understanding of how these systems compare and which you should choose for different types of use cases.

Apache Camel is a very popular integration library that works very well with microservice architecture. This talk introduces you to Apache Camel and how you can easily get started with Camel on your computer. Then we cover how to create new Camel projects from scratch as microservices, which you can boot using Camel or Spring Boot, or other micro containers such as Jetty or fat JARs. We then take a look at what options you have for monitoring and managing your Camel microservices using tooling such as Jolokia, and hawtio web console.

On the other hand, Java has been around for more than 2 decades, dominating the entreprise world. Both advocate the "RUN anywhere" principal, but, is it that easy? No! Your perfect working local container will most probably fail on production because of MEMORY &/or CPU issues, since jvm apps assume they OWN the server they are running on.
This session will look at the gotchas of running JVM apps in containers & how to avoid costly pitfalls. We will cover:
_ what updates Java 10 brought to the table to improve container awareness and the issues related to prior versions, including how to address each one of them to avoid the mess.

Netflix’s Big Data Platform team manages data warehouse in Amazon S3 with over 60 petabytes of data and writes hundreds of terabytes of data every day. At this scale, output committers that create extra copies or can’t handle task failures are no longer practical. This talk will explain the problems that are caused by the available committers when writing to S3, and show how Netflix solved the committer problem.

When choosing an event streaming platform, Kafka shouldn’t be the only technology you look at. There are a plethora of others in the messaging space today, including open source and proprietary software as well as a range of cloud services. So how do you know you are choosing the right one? A great way to deepen our understanding of event streaming and Kafka is exploring the trade-offs in distributed system design and learning about the choices made by the Kafka project. We’ll look at how Kafka stacks up against other technologies in the space, including traditional messaging systems like Apache ActiveMQ and RabbitMQ as well as more contemporary ones, such as BookKeeper derivatives like Apache Pulsar or Pravega. This talk focuses on the technical details such as difference in messaging models, how data is stored locally as well as across machines in a cluster, when (not) to add tiers to your system, and more. By the end of the talk, you should have a good high-level understanding of how these systems compare and which you should choose for different types of use cases.

Testing is important for any system you write and at eBay it is no different. We have a number of complex Scala and Akka based applications with a large number of external dependencies. One of the challenges of testing this kind of application is replicating the complete system across all your environments: development, different flavors of testing (unit, functional, integration, capacity and acceptance) and production. This is especially true in the case of integration and capacity testing where there are a multitude of ways to manage system complexity. Wouldn’t it be nice to define the testing system architecture in one place that we can reuse in all our tests? It turns out we can do exactly that using Docker. After that we will explore how this has helped us reduce the duration and complexity of our tests.

GraalVM allows building native applications from Java and other JVM languages. It includes a new just-in-time compiler called Graal and the Truffle framework for building language interpreters. GraalVM also includes Sulong, which allows running LLVM-based languages on the JVM. Apache Camel is a very popular integration library that works very well with microservice architecture.
This talk introduces you to Apache Camel and how you can easily get started with Camel on your computer.
Then we cover how to create new Camel projects from scratch as micro services which you can boot using Camel or Spring Boot, or other micro containers such as Jetty or fat JARs.
We then take a look at what options you have for monitoring and managing your Camel microservices using tooling such as Jolokia, and hawtio web console.
The second part of this talk is about running Camel in the cloud.We start by showing you how you can use the Maven Docker Plugin to create a docker image of your Camel application and run it using docker on a single host. Then kubernetes enters the stage and we take a look at how you can deploy your docker images on a kubernetes cloud platform, and how the fabric8 tooling can make this much easier for the Java developers.
At the end of this talk you will have learned about and seen in practice how to take a Java Camel project from scratch, turn that into a docker image, and how you can deploy those docker images in a scalable cloud platform based on Google's kubernetes.

Integration using Apache Camel and Groovy

In this this talk I first introduce you to Apache Camel and its concepts. Then we move on to see how you can use the Groovy programming language with Camel as a first class Groovy DSL to build integration flows.
You will also learn how to build a new Camel and Groovy app from scratch from a live demo.
And we also touch how you can use Camel from grails using the grails-camel plugin.
I will also show the web console tools that give you insight into your running Apache Camel applications, including visual route diagrams with tracing, debugging, and profiling capabilities.
This session will be taught with a 50/50 mix of slides and live demos, and it will conclude with Q&A time.

UI5con 2024 - Bring Your Own Design System
How do you combine the OpenUI5/SAPUI5 programming model with a design system that makes its controls available as Web Components? Since OpenUI5/SAPUI5 1.120, the framework supports the integration of any Web Components. This makes it possible, for example, to natively embed own Web Components of your design system which are created with Stencil. The integration embeds the Web Components in a way that they can be used naturally in XMLViews, like with standard UI5 controls, and can be bound with data binding. Learn how you can also make use of the Web Components base class in OpenUI5/SAPUI5 to also integrate your Web Components and get inspired by the solution to generate a custom UI5 library providing the Web Components control wrappers for the native ones.
Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
