Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

SINOPSE BREVE:
Desacelera o passo. A música de suspense desacelera.
Os Pares Amarelo e Rosa param. A música suave continua.
O Par de Sapatos Pretos pára. Cadarços desamarrados. Alguém se
abaixa e amarra o cadarço. A música de suspense pára e é
sobreposta pela música suave.
CENA 02 – EXT. RUA RESIDENCIAL – DIA
cabelos brancos e compridos, magra. Elas carregam sacolas de
compras.
A pintura novinha.
anos, magro, alto, cabelo negros.
CENA 03B – INT. COZINHA – DIA
Clair e Iara vestem seus aventais.
5. 5
IARA
Não precisava dizer o que tinha. Não precisava dizer
para o que era.
CENA 04 – INT. COZINHA – DIA
Clair coloca farinha numa tigela. Passa a farinha para Iara.
CLAIR
Ele ia ver e ia saber, Iara. Pára de ser rabugenta.
Fica feliz. Sua neta vem aqui hoje. Ovo.
CLAIR
Fermento.
Iara passa fermento para Clair.
CLAIR
Iara, pára com o nervosismo. Se tu ficar nervosa,
a massa fica nervosa. A massa ficando nervosa, os
doces ficam duros e ruins. Estamos fazendo doces e
eles refletem o estado de espírito do confeiteiro.
CENA 05 – EXT. CASA – DIA
O Par de Sapatos Pretos . A música de suspense. O Assaltante abre
a portinhola. Entra.
6. 6
CENA 06 – INT. SALA DE ESTAR – DIA
Clair senta no sofá e tricota. Iara senta numa cadeira de balanço
e lê gibi de caubói.
IARA
Eu não estou mal humorada. É que eu tenho uma
sensação ruim sobre tudo isso.
CLAIR
Clair
continua a tricotar.
IARA (off)
Ai, minha Maria.
CLAIR
Quê? A Maria está aqui?
Clair larga a linha e agulha. Levanta do sofá.
CENA 07 – INT. COZINHA – DIA (CONTINUA)
Clair entra na cozinha. Pára quando vê o Assaltante, seu rosto
escondido em sombra. Ele senta à mesa de madeira. Atrás, a fumaça
do fogão a lenha.
CLAIR
Quem é o moço, Iara?
IARA
Quieta, Clair. Não vê que é um assalto?
7. 7
CLAIR
Como assim um assalto?
IARA
Um assalto. Um assalto. Vamos para a sala.
CENA 08 – INT. SALA DE ESTAR – DIA (CONTINUA)
Clair, Iara e o Assaltante entram na sala.
CLAIR
Mas quem é o mo...?
IARA
Shhhh! Melhor ficar quietinha. Sentar e calar o
bico, morou?
CLAIR
Iara, que é que...
IARA
Nem mais um pio!
Clair coloca a mão sobre o peito. Senta no sofá. O Assaltante
começa a revistar as gavetas. Clair começa a ofegar. Aperta a
mão contra o peito.
IARA
Clair, está bem?
CLAIR (ofegante)
Não, não.
ASSALTANTE
O que tá acontecendo?
IARA
Ela não está passando bem. (pausa) Moço, acho que
ela está tendo um piripaque.
CLAIR
Acha? Acha?
ASSALTANTE
É mesmo? E o que eu posso fazer? Nada.
8. 8
IARA
Pode buscar um copo d’água.
O Assaltante coça o queixo.
CLAIR
COZINHA/INT. SALA DE ESTAR –
DIA
O Assaltante abre a porta do armário.
ASSALTANTE
Onde estão os copos?
IARA
Na terceira porta, da esquerda pra direita.
O Assaltante pega um copo. Clair apoiada por Iara.
IARA
Clair coloca a mão
no coração.
IARA (sussurra)
CLAIR
Gostando dos biscoitos? Come, come. Pode comer
bastante!
IARA
Posso perguntar uma coisa? Que idéia foi essa de
assaltar numa quinta-feira? Desde quando
quinta-feira é dia de assaltar as pessoas?
CLAIR
Iara, deixa de ser mal educada. Pode dar uma
indigestão no rapazinho.
IARA
É que eu estou encucada.
CLAIR
Deve ser método. Olha como ele reparte os cabelos.
ASSALTANTE (orgulho)
nunca provou.
ASSALTANTE
Já provei sim!
IARA
Mas o meu é melhor, abre a boquinha.
Iara enfia a colher na boca do Assaltante. Ele come e faz cara
de nojo.
ASSALTANTE
Tá bom...
O Assaltante mastiga o doce de coco. Batem à porta. Clair e Iara
olham em direção ao corredor. O Assaltante cospe o doce de coco.
Clair sai da cozinha.
CENA 12B – INT. CORREDOR – DIA
Clair vai até a porta e abre. É Aírton.
AÍRTON
Oi, Dona Clair. Só vim confirmar o café da tarde.
CLAIR
Ih, seu Aírton, tinha até esquecido. Odeio fazer
isso, mas vamos ter que desmarcar. Chegou uma visita
inesperada e o senhor sabe...
Coça a barba.
CENA 13 – INT. SALA DE ESTAR – DIA
Um álbum de fotos. Crianças, adolescentes e adultos, em festas,
campo, praia. Clair folheia o álbum. O Assaltante olha.
CLAIR
fechadas. Aírton pára de pintar. NÊGA, uma mulher de 40 anos,
magra, cabelos presos, molha as plantas, ao fundo.
AÍRTON
Estranho... Nêga!!!
NÊGA
Que é, nêgo?
12. 12
Alguma coisa deve estar acontecendo.
CENA 15 – INT. SALA DE ESTAR – DIA
Na parede, várias fotos penduradas. Nas fotos, crianças,
adolescentes e adultos. O Assaltante olha as fotos.
IARA
ouve.
A campainha. Iara larga o Assaltante e olha o relógio.
13. 13
ASSALTANTE
Mas...
Clair coloca outro bolinho na boca do Assaltante. Iara abre
a porta. CLARICE entra.
CLARICE
Oi, vó! Como é que tá?
Clarice beija Iara.
ASSALTANTE
Oi.
CENA 16 – INT. COZINHA – DIA
Clarice, Iara e Clair. Clair adoça uma xícara de café. Elas
cochicham. Ao fundo, o Assaltante mexe nas bugigangas.
CLARICE
Mas, vó, Dona Clair. Vocês têm que ligar para a
polícia.
IARA
Por quê?
CLARICE
Porque sim. Porque é o certo, oras.
IARA
Que nada. (pausa) Hum. Acho até que vocês dariam
um belo casal.
O Assaltante pega um objeto.
CLAIR
É. É uma dificuldade achar rapazes decentes, hoje
em dia.
CLARICE
Decente, Dona Clair? Ele é um assaltante.
Clair, Clarice e Iara olham para o Assaltante. Ele larga o
objeto.
14. 14
CLAIR
CENA 17 – INT. SALA – DIA
Clarice e o Assaltante sentam à mesa. Xícaras de café sobre a
mesa. O Assaltante adoça o café. Coloca cinco colheres de açúcar.
Clarice come bolinho de chuva. O Assaltante começa a assobiar.
Clarice olha para ele; balança a cabeça. Escondidas na porta,
Clair e Iara cochicham.
CLAIR
Eles estão se dando bem, não acha?
IARA
Verdade. Conseguem até ficar quietos juntos.
(entram na cozinha) Como estão, crianças? Tudo bem?
CLARICE (fala baixo)
Graças a Deus!
ASSALTANTE (levanta)
Acho melhor ir embora. Já está ficando tarde e esse
assalto foi um fracasso...
IARA
Ah, não. Fica para o jantar.
ASSALTANTE
Não, não. Vou embora, mesmo.
IARA
15. 15
ASSALTANTE
Vou embora!
O Assaltante abre a porta. Clair e Iara seguram o Assaltante.
O Assaltante se remexe e tenta se soltar.
IARA
Eles colocam o
Assaltante na viatura e entram.
CLAIR
Vê se não esquece da gente.
Elas abanam, enquanto o carro se afasta. Dentro da viatura, o
Assaltante levanta as mãos algemadas. Lentamente, abana de
volta.
