The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Contemporary Era
The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities. The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on
how the time period has influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era. There are many advancements in the area
of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia stirred up by
the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation, which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one s
pursuit of happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras. Cinema in the contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born
because of the high dependence on technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing provide visual evidence of this idea the pursuit of
happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in this pursuit. In the beginning, Troy is very confident and lives in the moment. He makes a comment about
having to earn happiness, and he says that he has indeed earned happiness. Troy considers his pursuit of happiness to have stemmed from hard work and
success. This relates back to the drive for economic prosperity within the corporate world is from the previous era. However, after hitting Beatrice with his car,
he is riding in a cab, and the cab driver tells him to smile because he looks so serious.

Healthcare reform Essay
The United States should have Universal Health Care
Comp II
The United States should have Universal Health Care
Virtually 50 million Americans are presently without any health insurance, and a great number of them with health insurance are struggling to pay for their
medical bills. Everybody concurs that healthcare must be accessible to all citizens, but the debate on whether the United States should adopt a universal health
system still rages. According to the Institute of Medicine (2002), the U.S. is the only developed country that does not guarantee that its citizens have health
care coverage. President Obama pledged to reform the country s healthcare system by increasing health coverage and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Moreover, there are already existing laws in the country that demand emergency rooms for patients if they lack any insurance. This expenses the hospital
finance that they convey to clients and insurance firms. Under universal health care program, those people that usually go without insurance cover would be
demanded to pay for it through taxes. This concept of cost distribution would reduce the individual costs of people currently paying for insurance. It is worth
noting that this system of taxation resembles the shared costs of schooling, road construction, or even space exploration (Burke, Diego Semelka, 2012).
Opponents of universal healthcare system assert that the program would be damaging to the quality of health services, although researchers have established
that the country s healthcare structure is not superior to those of various developed countries that offer universal health care (Garber Skinner, J2008). In
relation to the same research, the United States is ranked second last in terms of the number of practicing physicians. Moreover, the country has less than the
normal number of hospital beds and period of stay for severe care. The expense of the country s healthcare per individual is $8,000 more than Netherlands,

Jim Carry
The youngest of four children born to Percy (an accountant and aspiring jazz saxophonist) and Kathleen, Jim Carrey was an incurable extrovert from day one.
As a child he performed constantly, for anyone who would watch, and even mailed his résumé to The Carol Burnett Show (1967) at age 10. In junior high he
was granted a few precious minutes at the end of each school day to do stand up routines for his classmates (provided, of course, that he kept a lid on it the rest
of the day). Carrey s early adolescence took a turn for the tragic, however, when the family was forced to relocate from their cozy town of Newmarket to
Scarborough (a Toronto suburb). They all took security and janitorial jobs in the Titan Wheels factory, Jim working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Playing a naive salesman who discovers that his entire life is the subject of a TV show, Carrey demonstrated an uncharacteristic sincerity that took moviegoers
by surprise. He won a Golden Globe for the performance, and fans anticipated an Oscar nomination as well when it didn t materialize, Carrey lashed out at
Academy members for their narrow minded selection process. Perhaps inspired by the snub, Carrey threw himself into his next role with abandon. After
edging out a handful of other hopefuls (including Edward Norton) to play eccentric funnyman Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon (1999), Carrey disappeared
into the role, living as Kaufman and his blustery alter ego Tony Clifton for months (Carrey even owned Kaufman s bongo drums, which he d used during his
audition for director Milos Forman). His sometimes uncanny impersonation was rewarded with another Golden Globe, but once again the Academy kept quiet.
An indignant Carrey next reprised his bankable mania for the Farrelly brothers in Me, Myself Irene (2000), playing a state trooper whose Jekyll and Hyde
personalities both fall in love with the same woman (Renée Zellweger). Carrey s real life persona wound up falling for her too a few months after the film
wrapped, the pair announced they were officially a couple. By then, Carrey had already slipped into a furry green suit to play the stingy antihero of Ron
Howard s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). He plans to take a break from the limelight

The Importance Of Marriage Before Getting Married Before...
Have you seen the world yet? Not many people can say yes so early in their lives and they certainly can t say that they ve done everything they want to do. I
think everybody should be able to say that they ve been everywhere they want to be before they get married and settle down to have kids and start a chapter of
their life. Everyone should see the world before settling down and starting a family. However many don t follow the same mindset when they have the chance
and they lose that opportunity while they are young and able. Getting married before you travel the world is a mistake, and this is what you should consider
before choosing settling down over seeing the world.
People always say they will travel after they get married but life always seems to get in the way. Those who choose to get married before traveling this massive
world, always look back saying that life got in the way and their responsibilities prevented further adventuring. When you re still single your time is still your
own, there is not many other people that you need to run things by at this point in your life. The world is your oyster and who wants to have to check with
someone before they set off into an amazing adventure. A single individual is free to make decisions based on the fact of whether or not they are practical for
their lives, adding another person into consider would end of narrowing your choices of destinations. I m sure going on adventures with a spouse would be

Writing Is An Important Aspect
Essay Writing Essay writing is an important aspect, not just in the life of the average student, but also every other person in general. This is because they are
not only used by to assess the performance of students, express ideas or develop creativity, but people regularly in their every day life also use them. For
instance, when writing resumes, in publication agencies such as magazines and newspapers, writing contracts, journals, and for other reasons. There have been
several improvements in my writing process as I have been able to practice and learn more concerning essay writing. This has helped to improve upon the
basic knowledge I had about the subject, as I used to find it stressful when writing essays. Writing requires certain processes that enable one to create a good
and concise essay, such as, pre writing, organizing, drafting, revising, and editing (Sims, Chan, and Sethuram 374). These steps are necessary as they help one
to generate ideas, plan the essay, make it easy to comprehend, and also use time wisely. When organizing the essay, it should have a topic sentence or thesis in
the introduction, a body, and then the conclusion followed by salutations if required. With several improvements in these areas, I have also been able to work
on the grammar aspect of the essay, including spelling, punctuations, and other areas. This helps make the audience or readers easily understand the essay.

Benefits Of Art Club In School
Does your school offer a variety of clubs, classes, and activities? Most schools do. Some clubs at my school are Nerd Herd, Theater club, French club, and art
club. Some of the classes are drama, art, Spanish, French, and career investigation. Some activities are soccer, basketball, football, and school dances. One of
these that students enjoy is art club. Students enjoy art club because it s fun, it s a stress reliever, and they get to hang out with friends. Students enjoy art club
because it s fun. One way that art club is fun is that students get to do whatever they want, on certain projects. A way that students get to do whatever they
want is that they may put flowers on their project and someone else may put robots on theirs. There are really cool projects to do, and if students like art than
they ll love to do these projects! One of these projects is ice dyeing. Last year in art club we ice dyed T shirts and pillowcases. Ice dying is like tie dying, in the
way that they both diy the fabric, and students certainly don t diy anything in a regular art class. Another example is a chalk board. Last year in art club we
made small chalk boards with whatever we wanted on them. None of the chalk boards were the same, they were all different. Some of them had flowers while
others were stained. The last reason why art club is fun is that last year we had a party at the beginning and end of the year. At the meeting before each party
each student signed up to bring in a type of

In the beginning, we often see tasks as not having meaning or being a waste of our time. We won t realize that these tasks will help us later in life in valuable

close game. None the less, we continued to play physical on both ends of the court. Fouls were called in bunches on both ends of the court, on both us and the
Bison. The difference in us the Warriors and the Bison was that was shot free throws exceptionally well compared to the Bison. In the end, the game ended
with us the Warriors only have three players on the court, while the Bison had five players left. Even down players we had gained a lead where there was no
way we could lose. During this game i shot twelve free throws and only missed one, i shot at over ninety percent helping lead our team to a victory. This is
when i realized how important free throws are to a game of basketball. The amount of free throws you shot and make is important to any team looking for a
win against any opponent. Not till i had experience the meaning of free throws first hand i had no reason to practice them. My father forced me to shoot them
and i am thankful now, while back then they just annoyed me. This task of shooting one hundred free throws a night seemed to be useless at a young age, until
i had was but in a position where my task lead us to victory. The task i learned that day seemed to have no meaning to me until i had grown up.

When considering the proliferation of gambling advertising it is important to compare the gambling environment established before deregulation and the
extent to which it has changed post deregulation. The problems affiliated with gambling are not a new phenomenon, as such considerable research has been
done to mitigate and control the derived negatives (Eadington, 2012). Applying age restrictions, promoting easily accessible helplines for those with a
problem, self exclusion programs and limiting access to gambling have met with success and led credence to the belief that gambling is no longer a focus for
criminal activity or a form of glamorous extravagance (Delfabbro, 2011). However since the sudden deregulation of gambling, advertising

Gaius Octavianus As The Ruler Of The Great Roman Empire
Introduction
Gaius Julius Octavianus assumed the throne as the ruler of the great Roman Empire in 30 B.C. During his reign as emperor which ran for about four and a half
decades, Gaius institutionalized Rome with ideologies and notions that were centered on the combined traditions of Republican Rome and the realities of the
kingship concept. Gaius Octavian was conferred with the title of Augustus in 27 B.C by the senate. The honorific title of Augustus was a reflection of
connotations stateliness and dignity. Prior to the conferment of the title, an official imperial portrait that embodied the qualities wished to be projected by
Octavian the Emperor Augustus was created. Several hundreds of this portrait were imprinted on gemstones, coins, monumental reliefs and statues and were
disseminated to region of the empire during and after Gaius reign. The above ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prototypical portrait type was copied by court sculptors. The copies were dispersed throughout the Roman Empire in a bid that further copies could be made
and installed in public places. Via the imprints of the statue on coins, and busts, the empire was consistently reminded of the Emperor s authority and power.
Aristocratic portraits of the late Roman Republic were always conceived as being veristic, which implies that they documented wrinkles, baldness and the
facial impetrations of the personality they were modeled after. Gaius Octavian looked to a new ideology of Roman art and chose a more idealized, classicizing
portrait which would capture his individual features and portray him as a never aging, and powerful ruler. In Gaius own opinion it would not be uncommon for
the Emperor to be portrayed with the attributes of gods. He believed that after his passing, he would be deified but a public representation of himself in life
would also depict him as having divine

Applications For Restorative Applications Are Single...
INTRODUCTION:
OFS for restorative applications are single point, measuring vital parameters, for example, pressure or temperature. In all OFS applications, the optical fiber is
a thin glass fiber that is generally secured mechanically with a polymer covering (or even a metal covering in compelling cases) and regularly embedded in a
link intended to be suitable for focused applications. Optical Fibers are immune to electromagnetic interference , nontoxic , chemically inert and internally safe
.
ADVANTAGES:
Fiber optics overcome various drawbacks caused by the electrical devices in estimating the physical and the chemical parameters. [1]
Geometrical adaptability : For example, miniaturization , adaptability, and delicacy, which permit simple insertion in catheters and needles, and henceforth
exceptionally limited estimations inside blood and tissues;
Suitable material : glass or plastic, which is study, non poisonous and biocompatible, and can be utilized for consistent estimations;
Inborn security for the patient: guaranteed by optical fiber di electricity and by the low light power utilized for detecting purpose. SENSORS IN
BIOMEDICAL FIELD:
Sensors are the instruments that detect the biological, physical and chemical processes and report this data. Human body is a different combinations of
muscles, organs, bones and joints. Each part undergoes various dynamic changes in pressure or temperature due to physiological changes during illness.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Tax Haven
A Tax Haven is defined as, a place that seeks to attract business by offering politically stable facilities to help people or entities get around the rules, laws and
regulations of jurisdictions elsewhere .
Tax havens also refer to countries which have a system of financial secrecy in place. It should be noted that, financial secrecy can be used by foreign
individuals to circumvent certain taxes (such as inheritance tax on money, and income tax of the interest on the money you have on your bank account.
Because the requirement of paying taxes on these funds can not be transmitted, as the funds themselves are invisible to the country the individual is from, such

FACT: According to data compiled by the State Department, the CIA, the IRS, and the Financial Action Task Force, low tax jurisdictions are less likely to
engage in money laundering. This is likely due to the fact that revelations of illicit activity would be very damaging to the reputation of small economies, so
there is a much greater incentive to weed out wrong doing. Moreover, criminals tend to avoid taking stolen money offshore because cross border transactions
raise red flags and create paper trails .
 Tax havens encourage tax evasion.
FACT: Excessive tax burdens in welfare states such as France encourage tax evasion. This leads to capital flight to places such as Hong Kong, Switzerland, the
United States, and the Cayman Islands. If French politicians do not like capital flight, they should lower France s oppressive tax rates. Moreover, tax havens
play a key role in protecting people victimized by crime, corruption, and ethnic or religious persecution precisely by shielding them from venal governments .
 High tax jurisdictions are unable to compete with tax havens and therefore have little choice but to push for protectionist policies in order to retain

The Role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night Essay
The Role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night
The main storyline in Twelfth Night is love between Cesario, Orsino, Olivia and later on in the play Sebastian. Malvolio s part in the play is a backdrop
situation separate from the main story. He brings a level of both humour and sympathy to the play. Malvolio is one of the main sources of humour in Twelfth
Night. In the later part of the play a different side of him is exposed.
Malvolio is Olivia s steward and his job is to manage Olivia s house; he is her chief servant. It s a very responsible job that he takes very seriously. He enjoys

Twelfth Night is referring to the twelfth night after Christmas, Epiphany. Today, the Twelfth Night after Christmas means the day we take down the
decorations, but back in 1600 when the play was written it had a different meaning. Epiphany was a time for celebrating and partying. People used to have
parties on Twelfth Night and it was traditional to play practical jokes at this time. These included tricks such as hiding live birds in an empty pie case, so that
they flew away when the startled guests cut open the crusts. It was a mad time full of pranks and confusion, just as in the play. This name, Twelfth Night ,
therefore seems appropriate for this play due to all the confusion and the banter that goes on in the confusing storyline.
In Twelfth Night we see different types of humour. There is the word play, the vulgar humour of Sir Toby, stupidity of Sir Andrew, Malvolio s foolishness , and
the general confusion caused by Viola s disguise.
Shakespeare used dirty and witty humour in most of his plays but it is perhaps most obvious in Twelfth Night. He used different types of humour to please all
of the people who flocked to see his plays. There was always an array of people, and they all needed to be kept interested. There were the peasants that he
could entertain with the dirty jokes and humour. An example of this is this is my lady s hand these be her very C s,

The Ruin And The Wife s Lament
Most of Old English poetry is all in one book. This book is called the Exeter Book. This book includes diverse, short, religious poems, which each have their
own unique style. Also, they contain a similar sad or mournful tone, which are considered to be elegies. Most of the poems are about one anonymous character
who is enduring some type of hardship. Two of these poems are The Wife s Lament and The Ruin . In The Ruin the speaker in the poem is describing the
disaster he or she sees. Buildings are crumbling, roofs ruined, yet the foundation of the city is still there. The city has endured hundreds of years worth of
storms and time itself. The narrator then talks about how this city was created and all people were filled with joy. Streams were flowing and the stone building
stood tall. Splendor and glad minded men filled the bright kingdom. Unfortunately it all came to an end when the plague spread throughout the kingdom and
death took many lives. The once precious kingdom was now an empty courtyard and ruble. The Wife s Lament is written in first person point of view. That

The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson
Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview and evaluation of the varying approaches to
understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses
the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms. The introduction immediately captivates those who
have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth Gospel by bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles the
issue in three parts.
Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological,
historical, and literary. Anderson considers familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them. Chapter one
exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers
the theological riddles of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve theological riddles presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys
the work of Johannine scholarship as well as presents his own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the historical and literary riddles
in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the

Sir Galahad And Sir Gawain Comparison
Arthurian stories have been around for hundreds of years, and many people still read them today. Sir Gawain, in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by the Pearl
Poet, is a righteous, noble, and loyal knight along with Sir Galahad in Le Morte D Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. Sir Gawain and Sir Galahad are similar
because both are very religious, but they are also different in the fact that Sir Galahad is a considered a perfect knight and Sir Gawain does not quite meet that
level. Sir Gawain and Sir Galahad are similar because both are very religious. Sir Gawain is religious because he refuses to sleep with the lady of the castle

Sir Gawain is not perfect because when Launcelot killed Sir Gawain s brothers, Sir Gaheris and Sir Gareth, Sir Gawain got angry and wanted revenge against

mine we shall march against them; and even if we march through seven realms, I shall not stay until Sir Launcelot is dead, or I am (502). Since Sir Gawain
wants to kill Sir Launcelot, this does not make him a Christian role model. On the contrary, Sir Galahad never did anything immoral and stayed pure. He is
considered a perfect knight. Sir Galahad, flower of all knighthood, whose coming I have awaited for so long, welcome! I pray you take me in your arms and

The Issue Of Corporate Greed
In exploring the issue of corporate greed, especially on Wall Street, we can decide if an issue is overblown by asking one question, Can a life ruining, economy
changing financial crisis be skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and tackles the issue of corporate greed in
the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the
devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough
to remember the mind numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market crashed. Unfortunately, many are also
old enough to have been directly affected by the choices big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of
corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have
weighed in on the economic failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. In terms of severity, the financial
collapse of 2008 is second only to the Great Depression in American history. This fact alone is enough to prove that The Big Short did not skew the issue for
dramatic effect. But looking deeper into the situation, we can see that

In the forest the oldest son found a bottle of soda and a bunch of eaten apples lying on the floor. The second son found bags of chips and a container. Finally,
the youngest son, Pepe found a chicken that was lost on the farm. So, he took the chicken to his house, Drinkwater (Drinkwater is a tavern name). When

Drinking Habits Among College Women
This study attempted to determine group differences in the misuse of alcohol and the consequences between undergraduate women who live in four different
on campus housing locations and how different residential environments may inspire different drinking habits. The independent variable is the type of housing
the women live in and the dependent variable is the type of alcohol involvement and the consequences that came with it. The study was researched through a
web based survey that was administered to a random sample of students in 1) single sex (all female) residential learning communities, 2) mixed sex residential
learning communities, 3) single sex (all female) non residential learning communities and 4) mixed sex non residential learning ... Show more content on

Students involved in fraternity or sorority houses almost always report heavier levels of alcohol consumption. Student who live in college sponsored,
residential learning communities also tend to drink less. The hypotheses of this study are 1) Does alcohol consumption vary as a function of RLC status (living
in an RLC versus living in a non RLC)? 2) Does alcohol consumption vary as a function of the sex of floor residents (single sex floors versus mixed sex
floors? 3) Do the primary and secondary consequences of heavy episodic drinking, including being taken advantage of sexually, vary as a function of RLC
status and sex of floor residents? This is a longitudinal study which is researched by teams at The University of Michigan and San Diego State University. Data
was collected during the students first year at the university. In order to screen for alcohol use questions that measured how much alcohol, on what occasions,
how often, how much and if they participated in any episodic drinking. In order to screen for the consequences of drinking, they separated the consequences

Hinduism in India as a polytheistic Religion
Is Hinduism a polytheistic or monotheistic religion? This question has lingered in the minds of many individuals and they have given their various thoughts
about it. Some people believe that Hinduism is monotheistic because the Hindus believe that ultimately all is one, but looking at it from my point of view I am
convinced that Hinduism is a polytheistic religion because they have a pantheon of gods and goddess for different purposes; they also have different sacred
texts for various reasons for their different gods. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion because it has various gods for diverse purposes. To illustrate this concept,

The Hindu sacred texts were grouped into Vedic texts and post Vedic texts. Examples of the Vedic texts are the Rig Veda which was the earliest text of the
Hinduism which compromised of 1,028 hymns that was devoted to various gods and goddesses (Hinduism 1, p2). Another text that we come across in
Hinduism is the Dharma which stated how a person should live their life from one stage to another, also the Upanishads which talked about reincarnation and
the afterlife. All these texts were part of the Vedic canon. As we go further we also see the laws of Manu, the Epics and Puranas which are used more these

Symbolism in the Red Convertible Essay
Symbolism of the Color Red in the Red Convertible
The Red Convertible by Louise Erdrich is more than an emotional story about the lives of two brothers who grew up together on an Indian reservation. She
uses a writing style that allows the reader to understand the text, while providing the opportunity to read into the story. Erdrich uses metaphors, symbols,
imagery to describe and define the brothers Henry and Lyman s relationship.
The two brothers purchased the red convertible together. The purchase defined their relationship and sense of adventure. The red coloration of the vehicle
represents blood the ultimate link of brotherhood. The red convertible went from taking these two brothers on the adventure of a lifetime to ... Show more

394). The second connection is found with the color red in the story are the American ideas of the negative things found in association with it. These things
included blood, aggression, danger and war. These negative associations are connected with Henry throughout the story. When he returns home from war,
Lyman says once I was in the room watching TV with Henry, I looked over, and he d bitten through his lip. Blood was going down his chin . This depiction is
important because not only does it show Henry s misdirected aggression, but again uses red. There was still blood going down Henry s chin, but he didn t
notice , in this we see how a color once associated with the car that made Henry so happy, has become a body fluid going unnoticed (p. 396).
In the end, the brothers appear to have a dispute over the car because Henry again wants Lyman to have it. Henry tells Lyman to take good care of it. Henry
then walks into the river and drowns. Lyman unsuccessfully attempts to rescue Henry. He lets the car go into the river to be with his brother.
The symbolism of the red convertible is the main metaphor for brotherhood theme in this story and focused on their connection to each other with the care;
however, the color of red throughout provides a much more profound meaning. Edrich wants readers of all backgrounds to find some relationship with the
color red. If any other color was used for the car, there might not be a deeper

In the book, the Giver and Jonas have a conversation about sharing the memories amongst everyone. Jonas suggests that if they share the memories with
everyone, than he would not have to bear so much by himself (Lowry 142). The way that this society controls memories is by only introducing one person to
them. If these memories were not held by one person then everyone will have to be burdened by the pain and torture: They don t want that. And that s the real
reason The Receiver is so vital to them, and so honoured (Lowry 142). This quotation provides an insight on the reasoning behind the restriction of memories
and the role The Receiver plays. In Carter F. Hanson s piece, The Utopian function of memory in Lois Lowry s The Giver, he provides a series of useful
arguments relating to the topic of shaping emotions. He analyzes why Lowry uses the concept of The Receiver of memories to control the communities
feelings: where one individual is responsible for holding all memories of the past so that others can live unburdened by the pain, knowledge and guilt of human
history (Hanson). This quotation from Hansons article clearly states that memories were abolished in this community for the purpose to void any lugubrious
emotions and the way the community does this is by having a Giver. Overall, Lowry uses a different method of

Molar Lab Experiment
Formal Lab Report
Molar Mass Determination by Freezing Point Depression
By: Taylor Williams
Lab Partner: Andrew Hall
CHE 115 02
September 28, 2017
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment is to learn concepts that explain the effect of solutes on the properties of liquids and to determine the molar mass of an
unknown substance by using freezing points determined by a digital temperature probe. The molar mass of the unknown substance will be determined by
measuring the freezing point of the lauric acid and lauric acid mixed with an unknown solute, then plugging those results into the freezing point depression
equation (∆T = i*Kf*m). This equation will solve for the molality, number of moles, and the molecular weight of an unknown solute. The unknown substance
will ultimately be determined based on matching the calculated molecular weight to the possible substance s molecular weights.
The basic methods of this lab involves setting up a water bath, placing the lauric acid in a flask to melt, then observing the temperature until it maintains a
steady state. Once the correct information is obtained, the freezing point depression equations can be used to determine the molecular weight of an unknown
substance. According to the General Chemistry Laboratory II notebook, The freezing point of a solution relative to that of the pure solvent is influenced by the
number of moles of solute present, and therefore is related to molar mass ( Department of Chemistry and

The Factors Influencing Human Behaviour Outside Of Other...
Animals are one of the top factors influencing human behavior outside of other non human animals. The interactions that occur between people and non
human animals, particularly in the Appalachian region, has led to profound changes both on the local community. The most significant interaction to take place
and has influenced the area drastically is domestication. Four types of domestication at the forefront of Appalachian culture are livestock, blood sports, pet
keeping, and animal s prevalence in oral folklore. The introduction of domestication previous to and after the Neolithic Revolution has harbored new
relationships between humans and animals that have altered the mountain face, culture, and economy of the Appalachian region.
The most prevalent human animal interaction to be observed and widely practiced in the Appalachian Mountains is the keeping of domesticated animals. The
region was widely used as hunting and gathering land previous to colonial expansion. Animals were not domesticated by Native Americans their animism, or
the belief that all organisms and inanimate objects possess a soul ( Constructing Animals ). However, it was not until the Neolithic Revolution reached the
Appalachians that sustainable agriculture became a standard way to obtain food. In doing so domesticated animals, particularly livestock, became common in
the mountains. Hogs cattle, and chickens were kept on farms to allow for easier access to meat, dairy, and eggs. Consequently, when people

Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy
Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy (PEEFT) is an approach used to improve the regulation, expression, acceptance, integration and transformation
of emotional experiences. Emotions govern the way we interact with the world around us and serve as the primary driver of decision making, allowing us to
identify potential risk and understanding personal needs and desires. The process of Emotion Focused therapy (EFT) is essentially to improve overall
emotional intelligence by working with the clients current emotional experiences, understanding maladaptive emotional scheme that may be preventing the
clients personal growth and impeding on their everyday life and experiencing. The EFT therapist guides the client through a process of awareness and
expression of emotions that can then be understood, reflected upon, integrated and transformed to add meaning to their personal experiences. This review
focuses on two 10 segments extracted from a counselling session based primarily on the use of the intentional Emotion Focused Therapy, counselling
interventions. The first transcript models a more constructive use of the EFT approach, whereas the second segment highlights a less effective use of the EFT
interventions, which can be seen in the client s storytelling and the stagnation in the session during the second segment. The client in this session presented
with a desire to become more of an authority figure in various aspects of his life. His previous experiences working

Cultural Context in How Many Miles to Babylon, Sive and 32a

Cultural Context
Q The cultural context of a text can determine the characters and events of the text greatly. Discuss in relation to at least two texts you have studied in your
comparative studies course.
Texts studied:
How Many Miles to Babylon, by Jennifer Johnston (HMMB)
Sive, by John B Keane
32A, directed by Marian Quinn
The texts I have studied as part of my comparative course are greatly determined by the cultural context of the text; we can see results of this on both
characters and events of each text. In each text I have studied the time and setting of the texts, the class structures and economic statutes of the characters, the
customs, traditions, power and especially the values of the societies all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a time when matchmakers were popular and local trades flourished. Matchmaking is a distinctive part of the cultural context; Thomasheen is actually a
matchmaker by trade. This was a traditional aspect of rural Ireland. The majority of the characters in the play see it as a young girl s purpose in life to marry a
suitable man that could provide a comfortable life for her. In one key seen in Sive we see Sive s aunt and for all purposes mother driven to fulfil the match
between Sive and Sean Dota in the guarantee of a wealthy sum of money for her meddling services.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We see that money is power in the world of Sive: Sean Dóta can get his way and marry Sive just because he has money. Sive s faith can be defined by the
expectations and considerations of her society and culture.
In contrast the world of 32A was never much determined by social class as was prominent in HMMB. Set in the suburbs of Dublin in 1979, at a much later
date than the other texts, we witness the society and culture of middle class Ireland. Dublin s North side where most of the action takes place is portrayed as a

Comparing The Story Of The Old Testament And The New...
Utilizing the understanding of the later definition make is extremely easier to incorporate the narrative of the Old Testament and the New Testament into one
chronicle event moving along the time line to teach and understand the mission of the church. It follows the events of knowing the story and where the church
came from and where it is headed. Clearly the church is not complete as Jesus has not returned so the work is still on going. The story continues to be written.
Christians today, just as the Jewish people did back during the times of the Old Testament, need to know the story and to do that we need to know the
scriptures.
The question comes down to how the Old Testament and the New Testament would be formed into one narrative to accomplish the goal of enhancing the
understanding of the mission of the church. To accomplish this task, I believe Christopher Wright, in his book, summarized the task very well. If one looks at
the Bible from an actual story line the flow from one Testament to the other does exactly that; it flows. The Old Testament points to the New Testament and the
New Testament builds upon the Old Testament.
The four major sections of the biblical story are Creation, Fall, Redemption in History, and New Creation . If people begin to think in terms of the Biblical
story from Genesis through Revelation and the realization that the story is not over, it will be simpler to understand how all the time eras in the Bible relate to
each other and

A Raisin In The Sun Generation Gap Essay
From the beginning, Hansberry displays how the Younger family struggles with the generation gap the problems that the older generation has in dealing with
the younger generation and vice versa. In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun, family members Mama, Beneatha, Ruth, and Walter voice their
generational differences over religion, life goals, gender identity. These differences then lead to disagreement and conflict among the family members. The
first example is the difference in religious beliefs of Mama and Beneatha. Mama, in her sixties, is conservative, family oriented, and devoutly religious. She
values religious piety and holds strong to a traditional Protestant belief system. While Mama is faithful, Beneatha doesn t believe in ... Show more content on

To start, Mama does not understand how Ruth and Walter can be so unappreciative and fail to recognize what they do have versus what they do not have.
Regarding Ruth and Walter s generation, there seems to be an abundance of self perceived shame. They hold little pride in the jobs they hold. Walter abhors his
job as a chauffeur and takes little appreciation in the fact that he has a job at all, as pointed out by Mama. Because of this miniscule amount of pride, they seem
to have difficulty being proud of anyone else. For example, they chastise Beneatha for going after her dream of being a doctor instead of applauding her
efforts. Mama understands the amount of hard work it took to get the family where it is today, even if they are experiencing a rough patch. Her husband and
her parents wanted to create a better life for future generations. Mama recognizes that this is a process that will take time. Unfortunately, they will not be
immediately gratified with the perfect life. Though wise, Mama is incapable of seeing the large toll the times have taken on Ruth and Walter s generation that
creates the high level of frustration. They are working day in a day out and getting nowhere fast. Overall, this shows that her family is not wealthy, and does
not really have extraordinary ambitions to do something with their lives. On the other

  • 2. The Pursuit Of Happiness In The Contemporary Era The pursuit of happiness is a common zeitgeist feature that occurs across all of the humanities. The way individuals pursue this happiness varies depending on how the time period has influences them. This zeitgeist feature is especially apparent during the Contemporary era. There are many advancements in the area of technology, causing one to detach from reality. The entertainment industry allows for seriousness to be critiqued. There is a sense of paranoia stirred up by the Cold War. The contemporary era also deals with the idea of fragmentation, which stems into different areas of life. Each of these elements relate to one s pursuit of happiness during the contemporary era, as well as past and future eras. Cinema in the contemporary era symbolizes the area in which it is born because of the high dependence on technology (Kuhns). The film 13 Conversations About One Thing provide visual evidence of this idea the pursuit of happiness and how disconnectedness plays a role in this pursuit. In the beginning, Troy is very confident and lives in the moment. He makes a comment about having to earn happiness, and he says that he has indeed earned happiness. Troy considers his pursuit of happiness to have stemmed from hard work and success. This relates back to the drive for economic prosperity within the corporate world is from the previous era. However, after hitting Beatrice with his car, he is riding in a cab, and the cab driver tells him to smile because he looks so serious. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Healthcare reform Essay The United States should have Universal Health Care Comp II The United States should have Universal Health Care Virtually 50 million Americans are presently without any health insurance, and a great number of them with health insurance are struggling to pay for their medical bills. Everybody concurs that healthcare must be accessible to all citizens, but the debate on whether the United States should adopt a universal health system still rages. According to the Institute of Medicine (2002), the U.S. is the only developed country that does not guarantee that its citizens have health care coverage. President Obama pledged to reform the country s healthcare system by increasing health coverage and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, there are already existing laws in the country that demand emergency rooms for patients if they lack any insurance. This expenses the hospital finance that they convey to clients and insurance firms. Under universal health care program, those people that usually go without insurance cover would be demanded to pay for it through taxes. This concept of cost distribution would reduce the individual costs of people currently paying for insurance. It is worth noting that this system of taxation resembles the shared costs of schooling, road construction, or even space exploration (Burke, Diego Semelka, 2012). Opponents of universal healthcare system assert that the program would be damaging to the quality of health services, although researchers have established that the country s healthcare structure is not superior to those of various developed countries that offer universal health care (Garber Skinner, J2008). In relation to the same research, the United States is ranked second last in terms of the number of practicing physicians. Moreover, the country has less than the normal number of hospital beds and period of stay for severe care. The expense of the country s healthcare per individual is $8,000 more than Netherlands, Norway, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jim Carry The youngest of four children born to Percy (an accountant and aspiring jazz saxophonist) and Kathleen, Jim Carrey was an incurable extrovert from day one. As a child he performed constantly, for anyone who would watch, and even mailed his résumé to The Carol Burnett Show (1967) at age 10. In junior high he was granted a few precious minutes at the end of each school day to do stand up routines for his classmates (provided, of course, that he kept a lid on it the rest of the day). Carrey s early adolescence took a turn for the tragic, however, when the family was forced to relocate from their cozy town of Newmarket to Scarborough (a Toronto suburb). They all took security and janitorial jobs in the Titan Wheels factory, Jim working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Playing a naive salesman who discovers that his entire life is the subject of a TV show, Carrey demonstrated an uncharacteristic sincerity that took moviegoers by surprise. He won a Golden Globe for the performance, and fans anticipated an Oscar nomination as well when it didn t materialize, Carrey lashed out at Academy members for their narrow minded selection process. Perhaps inspired by the snub, Carrey threw himself into his next role with abandon. After edging out a handful of other hopefuls (including Edward Norton) to play eccentric funnyman Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon (1999), Carrey disappeared into the role, living as Kaufman and his blustery alter ego Tony Clifton for months (Carrey even owned Kaufman s bongo drums, which he d used during his audition for director Milos Forman). His sometimes uncanny impersonation was rewarded with another Golden Globe, but once again the Academy kept quiet. An indignant Carrey next reprised his bankable mania for the Farrelly brothers in Me, Myself Irene (2000), playing a state trooper whose Jekyll and Hyde personalities both fall in love with the same woman (Renée Zellweger). Carrey s real life persona wound up falling for her too a few months after the film wrapped, the pair announced they were officially a couple. By then, Carrey had already slipped into a furry green suit to play the stingy antihero of Ron Howard s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). He plans to take a break from the limelight ... • 5. The Importance Of Marriage Before Getting Married Before... Have you seen the world yet? Not many people can say yes so early in their lives and they certainly can t say that they ve done everything they want to do. I think everybody should be able to say that they ve been everywhere they want to be before they get married and settle down to have kids and start a chapter of their life. Everyone should see the world before settling down and starting a family. However many don t follow the same mindset when they have the chance and they lose that opportunity while they are young and able. Getting married before you travel the world is a mistake, and this is what you should consider before choosing settling down over seeing the world. People always say they will travel after they get married but life always seems to get in the way. Those who choose to get married before traveling this massive world, always look back saying that life got in the way and their responsibilities prevented further adventuring. When you re still single your time is still your own, there is not many other people that you need to run things by at this point in your life. The world is your oyster and who wants to have to check with someone before they set off into an amazing adventure. A single individual is free to make decisions based on the fact of whether or not they are practical for their lives, adding another person into consider would end of narrowing your choices of destinations. This is because they are not only used by to assess the performance of students, express ideas or develop creativity, but people regularly in their every day life also use them. For instance, when writing resumes, in publication agencies such as magazines and newspapers, writing contracts, journals, and for other reasons. There have been several improvements in my writing process as I have been able to practice and learn more concerning essay writing. This has helped to improve upon the basic knowledge I had about the subject, as I used to find it stressful when writing essays. Writing requires certain processes that enable one to create a good and concise essay, such as, pre writing, organizing, drafting, revising, and editing (Sims, Chan, and Sethuram 374). These steps are necessary as they help one to generate ideas, plan the essay, make it easy to comprehend, and also use time wisely. When organizing the essay, it should have a topic sentence or thesis in the introduction, a body, and then the conclusion followed by salutations if required. With several improvements in these areas, I have also been able to work on the grammar aspect of the essay, including spelling, punctuations, and other areas. This helps make the audience or readers easily understand the essay. With the help of the Foundations of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Benefits Of Art Club In School Does your school offer a variety of clubs, classes, and activities? Most schools do. Some clubs at my school are Nerd Herd, Theater club, French club, and art club. Some of the classes are drama, art, Spanish, French, and career investigation. Some activities are soccer, basketball, football, and school dances. One of these that students enjoy is art club. Students enjoy art club because it s fun, it s a stress reliever, and they get to hang out with friends. Students enjoy art club because it s fun. One way that art club is fun is that students get to do whatever they want, on certain projects. A way that students get to do whatever they want is that they may put flowers on their project and someone else may put robots on theirs. There are really cool projects to do, and if students like art than they ll love to do these projects! One of these projects is ice dyeing. Last year in art club we ice dyed T shirts and pillowcases. Ice dying is like tie dying, in the way that they both diy the fabric, and students certainly don t diy anything in a regular art class. Another example is a chalk board. Last year in art club we made small chalk boards with whatever we wanted on them. None of the chalk boards were the same, they were all different. Some of them had flowers while others were stained. The last reason why art club is fun is that last year we had a party at the beginning and end of the year. At the meeting before each party each student signed up to bring in a type of ... My father and I would drill around, and i d learn to shoot by B.E.E.F (Balance, eyes, elbows in, and follow through), but one tasked seemed to be unimportant to me and that was free throws. Even down players we had gained a lead where there was no way we could lose. During this game i shot twelve free throws and only missed one, i shot at over ninety percent helping lead our team to a victory. This is when i realized how important free throws are to a game of basketball. The amount of free throws you shot and make is important to any team looking for a win against any opponent. Not till i had experience the meaning of free throws first hand i had no reason to practice them. My father forced me to shoot them and i am thankful now, while back then they just annoyed me. Applying age restrictions, promoting easily accessible helplines for those with a problem, self exclusion programs and limiting access to gambling have met with success and led credence to the belief that gambling is no longer a focus for criminal activity or a form of glamorous extravagance (Delfabbro, 2011). During his reign as emperor which ran for about four and a half decades, Gaius institutionalized Rome with ideologies and notions that were centered on the combined traditions of Republican Rome and the realities of the kingship concept. Gaius Octavian was conferred with the title of Augustus in 27 B.C by the senate. The honorific title of Augustus was a reflection of connotations stateliness and dignity. Prior to the conferment of the title, an official imperial portrait that embodied the qualities wished to be projected by Octavian the Emperor Augustus was created. Aristocratic portraits of the late Roman Republic were always conceived as being veristic, which implies that they documented wrinkles, baldness and the facial impetrations of the personality they were modeled after. Gaius Octavian looked to a new ideology of Roman art and chose a more idealized, classicizing portrait which would capture his individual features and portray him as a never aging, and powerful ruler. In Gaius own opinion it would not be uncommon for the Emperor to be portrayed with the attributes of gods. In all OFS applications, the optical fiber is a thin glass fiber that is generally secured mechanically with a polymer covering (or even a metal covering in compelling cases) and regularly embedded in a link intended to be suitable for focused applications. Optical Fibers are immune to electromagnetic interference , nontoxic , chemically inert and internally safe . ADVANTAGES: Fiber optics overcome various drawbacks caused by the electrical devices in estimating the physical and the chemical parameters. [1] Geometrical adaptability : For example, miniaturization , adaptability, and delicacy, which permit simple insertion in catheters and needles, and henceforth exceptionally limited estimations inside blood and tissues; Suitable material : glass or plastic, which is study, non poisonous and biocompatible, and can be utilized for consistent estimations; Inborn security for the patient: guaranteed by optical fiber di electricity and by the low light power utilized for detecting purpose. SENSORS IN BIOMEDICAL FIELD: Sensors are the instruments that detect the biological, physical and chemical processes and report this data. These included tricks such as hiding live birds in an empty pie case, so that they flew away when the startled guests cut open the crusts. Most of the poems are about one anonymous character who is enduring some type of hardship. Two of these poems are The Wife s Lament and The Ruin . In The Ruin the speaker in the poem is describing the disaster he or she sees. Buildings are crumbling, roofs ruined, yet the foundation of the city is still there. The city has endured hundreds of years worth of storms and time itself. The narrator then talks about how this city was created and all people were filled with joy. The Riddle os the Fourth Gospel by Poul Anderson Anderson writes The Riddles of the Fourth Gospel to provide students, of any level, with an overview and evaluation of the varying approaches to understanding the Fourth Gospel, and ultimately to serve as a guide through the controversy and riddles encountered in the Fourth Gospel. Anderson addresses the work of the international community of Johannine scholars and introduces a new set of paradigms. The introduction immediately captivates those who have yet to wade in the perplexities of the Fourth Gospel by bombarding the reader with the many puzzlements of the Fourth Gospel. Anderson tackles the issue in three parts. Part one introduces the most perplexing of the Johannine riddles. After an outline of the Gospel of John, Anderson presents the threefold riddles: theological, historical, and literary. Anderson considers familiarity with the points of contention a requisite for engaging, addressing, and interpreting them. Chapter one exposes the central features of the Fourth Gospel; which effectively reveals the dissimilarities between John and the Synoptic Gospels. Chapter two uncovers the theological riddles of the Fourth Gospel, both incidental and highly significant. For the twelve theological riddles presented in chapter 2, Anderson conveys the work of Johannine scholarship as well as presents his own incisive exegesis. Anderson does likewise in his presentation of the historical and literary riddles in chapters 3 and 4. The first part successfully establishes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Issue Of Corporate Greed In exploring the issue of corporate greed, especially on Wall Street, we can decide if an issue is overblown by asking one question, Can a life ruining, economy changing financial crisis be skewed for dramatic effect? The Big Short tells the story of the financial crisis of 2008 and tackles the issue of corporate greed in the form of the true stories of a few men who saw the crisis coming. The issue is not overblown at all. This can be observed by simply looking to the devastation and chaos caused by banks trying to make money by preying on the poor and un informed in the years following 2008. Most of us are old enough to remember the mind numbingly large number of people that were affected in several ways when the housing market crashed. Unfortunately, many are also old enough to have been directly affected by the choices big banks made for decades. Because there was such a large event directly caused by the issue of corporate greed, there are plenty examples in daily life to suggest that The Big Short does not skew the issue for dramatic effect. Almost all economists have weighed in on the economic failure in journals discussing topics such as corporate greed and the aftermath of the collapse. When he returns home from war, Lyman says once I was in the room watching TV with Henry, I looked over, and he d bitten through his lip. Blood was going down his chin . This depiction is important because not only does it show Henry s misdirected aggression, but again uses red. There was still blood going down Henry s chin, but he didn t notice , in this we see how a color once associated with the car that made Henry so happy, has become a body fluid going unnoticed (p. 396). If these memories were not held by one person then everyone will have to be burdened by the pain and torture: They don t want that. Molar Lab Experiment Formal Lab Report Molar Mass Determination by Freezing Point Depression By: Taylor Williams Lab Partner: Andrew Hall CHE 115 02 September 28, 2017 Introduction The purpose of this experiment is to learn concepts that explain the effect of solutes on the properties of liquids and to determine the molar mass of an unknown substance by using freezing points determined by a digital temperature probe. The molar mass of the unknown substance will be determined by measuring the freezing point of the lauric acid and lauric acid mixed with an unknown solute, then plugging those results into the freezing point depression equation (∆T = i*Kf*m). This equation will solve for the molality, number of moles, and the molecular weight of an unknown solute. The unknown substance will ultimately be determined based on matching the calculated molecular weight to the possible substance s molecular weights. The basic methods of this lab involves setting up a water bath, placing the lauric acid in a flask to melt, then observing the temperature until it maintains a steady state. Once the correct information is obtained, the freezing point depression equations can be used to determine the molecular weight of an unknown substance. According to the General Chemistry Laboratory II notebook, The freezing point of a solution relative to that of the pure solvent is influenced by the number of moles of solute present, and therefore is related to molar mass ( Department of Chemistry and ... Four types of domestication at the forefront of Appalachian culture are livestock, blood sports, pet keeping, and animal s prevalence in oral folklore. The introduction of domestication previous to and after the Neolithic Revolution has harbored new relationships between humans and animals that have altered the mountain face, culture, and economy of the Appalachian region. The most prevalent human animal interaction to be observed and widely practiced in the Appalachian Mountains is the keeping of domesticated animals. The region was widely used as hunting and gathering land previous to colonial expansion. In one key seen in Sive we see Sive s aunt and for all purposes mother driven to fulfil the match between Sive and Sean Dota in the guarantee of a wealthy sum of money for her meddling services. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We see that money is power in the world of Sive: Sean Dóta can get his way and marry Sive just because he has money. Sive s faith can be defined by the expectations and considerations of her society and culture. In contrast the world of 32A was never much determined by social class as was prominent in HMMB. Set in the suburbs of Dublin in 1979, at a much later date than the other texts, we witness the society and culture of middle class Ireland. Dublin s North side where most of the action takes place is portrayed as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Comparing The Story Of The Old Testament And The New... Utilizing the understanding of the later definition make is extremely easier to incorporate the narrative of the Old Testament and the New Testament into one chronicle event moving along the time line to teach and understand the mission of the church. It follows the events of knowing the story and where the church came from and where it is headed. Clearly the church is not complete as Jesus has not returned so the work is still on going. The story continues to be written. Christians today, just as the Jewish people did back during the times of the Old Testament, need to know the story and to do that we need to know the scriptures. The question comes down to how the Old Testament and the New Testament would be formed into one narrative to accomplish the goal of enhancing the understanding of the mission of the church. To accomplish this task, I believe Christopher Wright, in his book, summarized the task very well. If one looks at the Bible from an actual story line the flow from one Testament to the other does exactly that; it flows. The Old Testament points to the New Testament and the New Testament builds upon the Old Testament. The four major sections of the biblical story are Creation, Fall, Redemption in History, and New Creation . If people begin to think in terms of the Biblical story from Genesis through Revelation and the realization that the story is not over, it will be simpler to understand how all the time eras in the Bible relate to each other and ... • 36. A Raisin In The Sun Generation Gap Essay From the beginning, Hansberry displays how the Younger family struggles with the generation gap the problems that the older generation has in dealing with the younger generation and vice versa. In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun, family members Mama, Beneatha, Ruth, and Walter voice their generational differences over religion, life goals, gender identity. These differences then lead to disagreement and conflict among the family members. The first example is the difference in religious beliefs of Mama and Beneatha. Mama, in her sixties, is conservative, family oriented, and devoutly religious. She values religious piety and holds strong to a traditional Protestant belief system. While Mama is faithful, Beneatha doesn t believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, Mama does not understand how Ruth and Walter can be so unappreciative and fail to recognize what they do have versus what they do not have. Regarding Ruth and Walter s generation, there seems to be an abundance of self perceived shame. They hold little pride in the jobs they hold. Walter abhors his job as a chauffeur and takes little appreciation in the fact that he has a job at all, as pointed out by Mama. Because of this miniscule amount of pride, they seem to have difficulty being proud of anyone else. For example, they chastise Beneatha for going after her dream of being a doctor instead of applauding her efforts. Mama understands the amount of hard work it took to get the family where it is today, even if they are experiencing a rough patch. Her husband and her parents wanted to create a better life for future generations. Mama recognizes that this is a process that will take time. Unfortunately, they will not be immediately gratified with the perfect life. Though wise, Mama is incapable of seeing the large toll the times have taken on Ruth and Walter s generation that creates the high level of frustration. They are working day in a day out and getting nowhere fast. Overall, this shows that her family is not wealthy, and does not really have extraordinary ambitions to do something with their lives.
