Presentatie gehouden door Koen Klokgieters op het symposium Duurzamre Innovatie op dinsdag 19 mei 2009 doore Breijn Heijmans in Rosmalen ter gelegenheid van de opening van het nieuwe Laboratorium.
Capgemini Consulting, the global strategy and transformation consulting brand of the Capgemini Group, today releases its second innovation leader versus laggard study. As the knowledge partner of the World Innovation Forum, Capgemini Consulting has recently completed its global innovation survey on the current state of innovation. The study offers a unique perspective by looking at the differences in behavior of innovation leaders vis-à-vis laggards across five key areas, in order to identify what drives the success of companies that view themselves as successful innovators.
The document outlines strategies for the consumer goods industry to build for the new decade of 2020. It discusses key trends driving objectives, such as sustainability, shared supply chains, and health and wellbeing. It also identifies objectives the industry aims to achieve collectively, and tactics for how the industry will work together to meet these objectives. The report provides a framework for companies to develop action plans to adapt to changes and ensure future success.
The document discusses how manufacturing companies are increasingly integrating innovation into their corporate strategies and collaborating across organizational boundaries to drive innovation. Some key findings include:
1) Innovation is becoming a more integral part of corporate growth strategies and is embedded in more functions beyond just R&D.
2) Companies are looking at innovation as an important lever for improving business performance and top-line growth, in addition to developing new products.
3) R&D collaboration, customer collaboration, and supplier collaboration are seen as key ways to support localized products while leveraging synergies globally. However, challenges remain in capitalizing on customer insights and shifting supplier relationships from cost reduction to shared value creation.
This innovation leadership study carried out jointly by IESE Business School and Capgemini Consulting is Capgemini’s third report in the innovation leader versus laggard series. It aims to understand how those leading and managing innovation in their organizations think about the innovation function and offers an insider perspective into both the formal and informal mechanisms for managing innovation. It covers five key areas that affect a company’s innovation success: the innovation function, innovation strategy and innovation governance (formal mechanisms), innovation leadership and innovation culture (informal mechanisms). The study offers a unique perspective by looking at the differences in behavior of innovation leaders versus laggards across these key areas - allowing to uncover good practices in managing innovation.

How to develop and implement an Innovation Decision Making Approach to double the Business Value of the existing Innovation Portfolio?
How to define and use clear criteria for decision making process on Program and Portfolio level?
How to develop a Innovation Business Case reflecting the right decision making process?
How to manage the high sensitive value criteria successfully?
Co-creation provides opportunities for organizations but also presents challenges that must be addressed:
1) While 70% of respondents expect increased revenues from co-creation, only 25% currently involve customers in product development, indicating barriers that constrain co-creation goals.
2) The main barriers are pressing day-to-day business demands and lack of formal co-creation processes, showing co-creation is not a top priority despite recognized opportunities.
3) To successfully implement co-creation, organizations must make strategic choices and deploy a clear co-creation strategy to align it with daily operations.

How Future Consumers Will Change The Game Berlin May 2008Koen Klokgieters
The document discusses how future consumers will change the game for businesses through a more people-led approach to innovation where consumers are actively involved in the product development process. It outlines several presentations given at a conference that highlight trends showing consumers care more about health, sustainability, and having more control and choice through technology. The overall message is that businesses need to listen to consumers more and involve them directly in the innovation process.

Business Innovation and Innovation Management Uk VersionKoen Klokgieters
This document provides an overview of business innovation and innovation management. It discusses that constant innovation is necessary for organizations to adapt to changing customer behaviors and competition. Successful business innovation requires integrating changes to both internal and external factors of an organization. However, many companies struggle with business innovation due to growing complexity in trends, unpredictable customer behavior, obsolete organizational structures, and undeveloped competencies. Innovation management provides a framework for companies to understand their innovation capabilities and ambitions in order to increase their success with business innovation. It involves analyzing trends, determining the appropriate level of innovation, and using tools like an innovation radar screen and strategic innovation scenarios.
The document discusses how organizations need to adapt to a new generation of customers who expect more involvement and transparency. It outlines how communication is shifting from one-way to two-way, and how customers demand equality and punish arrogance. This new generation wants to participate actively in innovation. The document also notes that large organizations find it challenging to change and innovate due to rigid structures, but that some like Philips and Lego are starting to engage customers in co-creation. It introduces the concept of "Mass Participation" where customers help drive innovation at low costs through peer-to-peer participation.
The document discusses the rise of "neo-capitalists" like hedge funds that aim for short-term financial gains without concern for long-term value. This leads companies to focus only on cost-cutting and acquisitions to boost share prices quickly. As a result, long-term investments, employee satisfaction and organizational innovation all suffer. A new generation called the "Einstein Generation" or "Knight Innovators" is emerging that takes a collaborative approach to innovation through mass participation. They create new organizational forms not focused on existing structures and will challenge the "robber barons" with new models of working together.
The document discusses business innovation and provides a framework for organizations to improve their innovation capabilities. The framework includes 4 key areas: 1) Innovation strategy - defining where to allocate resources for future returns, including trend and scenario analysis. 2) Business model innovation - developing new business models to create, deliver, and capture value. 3) Operating model innovation - aligning assets and capabilities to deliver future value. 4) Innovation management - processes, governance, metrics to maximize innovation efforts. The framework helps organizations improve strategy, business models, operations, and management to create sustainable value through innovation.
Capgemini Consulting provides strategic business innovation services focused on developing new business models that significantly increase revenue and decrease costs through innovations in a company's value proposition, customer relationships, distribution channels, partner networks, and cost and revenue structures. Their business model innovation framework helps companies analyze and refine the key elements of their business model to develop an implementation roadmap. Capgemini also assists with operating model, commercial, and value chain innovations to lower costs and increase revenue streams.
Capgemini Consulting provides expertise in business innovation and transformation. They use an Innovation Framework to map out the innovation lifecycle and an Innovation Management Framework to outline key building blocks. Their approach involves challenging existing innovation strategies using scenarios, assessing innovation portfolios' impact on business models and technology, and accelerating projects' value creation. They also help clients align business models within their value chains through integration.
So how can companies outsource its R&D (or at last a part of R&D) in order to increase flexibility and effectiveness of R&D, whilst maintaining focus and dedication to the value chain’s needs?
The document discusses innovation driven procurement (IDP) strategies that companies can adopt to better support open innovation and corporate innovation goals. It provides examples of how Procter & Gamble uses open innovation through internal and external networks. It argues that procurement functions are well-positioned to support open innovation due their skills in boundary spanning, technical insights, and relationship management. An IDP strategy formalizes these mechanisms and transforms procurement into a business partner that scouts for new opportunities and helps drive the company's future direction.
The document outlines an approach to challenge an organization's innovation strategy by providing systematic insights into how trends may impact business and how the innovation portfolio aligns. It involves using an innovation radar screen to identify trends and their likelihood and impact. Strategic scenario thinking is then used to estimate the impact of trends on business value and match with capabilities. Gaps and opportunities in the innovation portfolio are identified to develop new business strategies and plans. This approach provides a conceptual model to analyze the relationship between trends, business impact, and the innovation portfolio.
The document outlines the key components of a business model including emotional value performance built on reputation and experience, key building blocks such as partner network, customer relationship, core capabilities, business functions, value proposition, distribution channels, and customer segments, and rational value performance focused on cost structure and revenue streams.
The document discusses business innovation and innovation management. It poses three questions: 1) What does business innovation mean? 2) Why are so few companies successful with business innovation? 3) Is there an approach that can be successful and how do you implement it? The document states that Capgemini provides answers to these questions in its vision of innovation management.
