LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

2. The Bluest Eye Analytical Essay
It is very common for people to be self conscious about their appearance. It is human to be insecure
about one s fashion choices, hairstyles, and blemishes. This becomes a problem when the self
consciousness lasts and becomes consuming. It can really wear away at a person s confidence and self
esteem. Pecola, the protagonist of Toni Morrison s novel The Bluest Eye, feels pressure to look like
the majority white culture that surrounds her and oppresses her. Johnny Drama Chase, a key character
in the hit HBO show Entourage, feels pressure to fit in with his exceptionally good looking and
successful Hollywood friends. Both Pecola and Drama crave adoration from society and obsess over
their insecurities and their beliefs that their dreams are out of reach because society views them as
ugly.

Pecola s ultimate goal is to find someone to love and care for her. This idea is demonstrated in the
book when Pauline, who regarded love as possessive mating, and romance as the goal of the spirit
expresses her values with Pecola (122). She convinces her that she must desire love and introduces her
to probably the most destructive idea in the history of human thought , physical beauty (122). Feeling
as though she cannot fulfill society s standard of female beauty, Pecola feels hopeless in her search for
love. Even the toys she plays with do not resemble her making her feel so much less than adequate or
even worthwhile she clearly believes that valuing the majority culture s view is best. This is why
Pecola becomes infatuated with the adoration the young television star Shirley Temple receives
because of her beauty. Unlike Pecola, Claudia rejects the girls adoration for Shirley Temple valuing
her own looks and feelings over what she represents. Her self esteem is clearly not as damaged as

Abstract:
Technology has had and imperative influence in almost every aspect of life. It has also made an
impact on how we learn today. Some question how effective learning could be via the internet, while
most stick with the familiarity of traditional classroom learning. Either option you choose still
substantiates that technology has changed the way we learn and will continue to expand on its
influences with the ways we choose to progress educationally. Each educational platform has it
disadvantages, however the advantages pose alternatives that can suit an individual s educational
needs.
With technology influencing almost every aspect of common activities, it s not unusual for it to
influence the way we learn. The traditional classroom environment is being challenged with the
implementation of online learning. With major technological advances over the last 20 years, many
traditional classroom environments have been replaced with online learning platforms that create
convenient, accelerated, and comprehensive learning opportunities around the world. Although some
would beg the differ that online learning can replace classroom education completely, online education
continues to improve allowing it to become a more trustworthy alternative for learning. Since the
traditional classroom environment pacifies familiarity in education some opt for

5. Gender, Sexuality, Reproduction, And Motherhood
Prior to and during the 1960 s the traditional outlook on women as equals was limites in nearly every
aspect. From marriage, sexuality, reproduction, and motherhood a woman was expected to follow a
pre destined order and timeline in life to complete these tasks. The expectation of women at the time
was to marry young, 18 24, and quickly start a family where she would devote her life to raising
children and housekeeping. Wives of the time period shouldered the responsibilities of child care and
home making, while men were expected to merely work, come home to a clean house and dinner, and
then slip off to bed. Until the late 1960 s when women began pushing for social change to rid
themselves from the slavery of traditional womanhood. Though this life style seems more like
imprisonment, some women didn t feel that way, for example my grandmother Armalene Haxby, was
content in her role as the home maker. However we know that this idea wasn t shared with the rest of
American women. The 1960 s was filled with social reforms and women rights protest meant to free
the American women to be equal to their male counter parts. An excerpt from Betty Friedan s book
The Feminine Mystique, gave insight to some women s outlook on life, I m desperate. I begin to feel I
have no personality. I m a server of food and a putter on of pants and a bed maker, somebody who can
be called on when you want something. But who am I? (Friedan 63) What was it like to be a house

6. The Fear and the Need for Nuclear Power
Introduction
Despite the fear of nuclear disasters and proliferation of nuclear weapons, the 435 nuclear power
reactors around the world produce approximately 16 percent of the world s electricity and 19 percent
of electricity in the United States (WIT, 2013). In a world increasingly affected by global warming,
with increasing energy consumption, it is important to acknowledge that nuclear power is a safe,
clean, reliable, and sustainable source of energy, unlike our presumptions. This paper analyzes
potential risks and benefits of nuclear power as a fuel source and why the United States should
continue nuclear power production.
How Nuclear Power Works
Natural uranium undergoes the steps of mining and milling, conversion, enrichment, and fabrication to
convert it from ore to fuel pellets. Uranium isotopes are enriched, separating the fissionable uranium
from the unfissionable, and a fuel fabricator presses it into fuel rods (WIT, 2013). The atoms in
uranium fuel are split apart to release heat energy, which makes steam and drives a turbine to produce
electricity. Used nuclear fuel is stored in a deep pool of water afterward (WIT, 2013).
Ther two types of commercial nuclear power plants are boiling water reactors and pressurized water
reactors. Out of the 100 reactors in the United States, 65 are pressurized water reactors and 35 are
boiling water reactors (IEA). Boiling water reactors heat the water in the reactor vessel directly into
steam while pressurized water

7. My First Love Is Doing Business
My first love was doing business. With my family operating a restaurant when I was a child, I
unconsciously learned how to run an operation and deal with customers within the business
surroundings. It would be easy to trace its origins back to my mother, who was a restaurant manager,
and while she definitely encouraged me, I had a natural drive to unlock the power of doing business,
which gave me a lens through which to view the world around me. During the summer of my junior
year in high school, I hosted my first charity bazaar, a charity sale for self customized T shirts for a
local orphanage that sponsored by my high school. Given much advance publicity, I did well at the
sale, making over $100 in an hour. That accomplishment made me realize my passion toward
marketing and motivated me to pursue a Bachelor degree in Business Management during my
undergraduate studies.
When I enrolled at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), marketing was my core interest: it has
provided numerous opportunities for hands on experience from class projects, such as predictive
analytics with software like SPSS and Tableau, and strategic case analysis with marketing tools like
SWOT and Porter s five force. In addition, with my supporting minor in psychology, I also gain a
psychological perspective and deeply understand how customers are attracted to, and persuaded to,
purchase merchandise as well as how companies build lasting relationships with those customers.

Phenylketonuria
1. Define Phenylketonuria. This is a rare inherited condition where the infant is born without the
capability to properly break down phenylalanine. Also known as PKU. This allows the amino acid
(phenylalanine) to build up in the infant s body. Which means that a diet high in protein can lead to
multiple serious health problems because of the dangerous levels that can build up from the
incapability of breaking down phenylalanine. For someone diagnosed with PKU, it is a lifelong
lifestyle change to follow a diet that limits the intake of phenylalanine which found mostly in proteins.

Signs and Symptoms of PKU. Since phenylalanine plays a role in the body s production of melanin,
infants with this condition usually have lighter hair, skin, and eyes than other infants without the
disease. Symptoms include Delayed mental and social skills, hyperactivity, seizures, microcephalus,
jerking movements of the arms or legs, intellectual disability, tremors, and unusual positioning of
hands.
4. LABS to monitor. PKU is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test. All newborns, by law, must be
screened for PKU. If the test is positive, further blood and urine testing is required to confirm the
diagnosis.
5. Treatments for PKU. Treatment is a diet that is exceptionally low in phenylalanine especially when
the child is growing. The child must follow the diet strictly and have close supervision by a doctor or
registered dietitian. This is a Diet for Life treatment. Phenylalanine is found mostly in milk, eggs, and
other household common foods. As well as phenylalanine, any foods containing aspartame should also
be avoided. Supplements (fish oil) should be taken to help replace the lack of long chain fatty acids.

9. My Love Of Dance
It seems like from the moment I could walk, I have had a love for dancing. When I was little, every
chance I got, I would perform in front of my family. Whether I was singing, dancing, dressing up, or
pretending to be a model on the runway, I wanted all the attention on me. When my mom put me into
dance classes, I instantly fell in love with it, because the whole time, I got to do what I loved the most:
perform. As the years went on, dance became something I was truly passionate about, and the lessons
I learned from it began to change me. Those lessons and the ones I am still learning from dance have
had a huge impact on me, making me into the person I am today.
When I was little dance was a way to have fun and be a star, and I could show the big outgoing
personality I had, but I became more reserved and shy as I grew up. Throughout intermediate school
and junior high, I remained someone who was an introvert and strayed away from most social
encounters. During this time, dance was something that allowed me to express what I was feeling, but
without words. The few friends I had at the time had been in my life since kindergarten. Life was very
comfortable and easy for me since I had lived in the same place forever. I didn t want anything to
change, and the idea of anything changing scared me. What I didn t know was that a change would be
exactly what I needed.
At the start of high school, my family moved to a new town. This meant making a whole new group of
friends. But how?

Denying what you feel will not make it go away. It ensures that it never gets resolved, (Denial).
Taking action on difficult situations allows individuals to combat reality and avoid unfavorable
circumstances. However, many people think that avoiding the truth means avoiding the situation,
equivalating that the circumstances are not real. This leads to other, more costly problems. Cormac
McCarthy s The Road is set in a post apocalyptic world where a father and son are journeying in
hopes to escape the destruction around them. Similar to McCarthy s book, Toni Morrison centers on a
young African American girl, Pecola, in The Bluest Eye, who hopes to escape the ill perceptions of

Passing by Nella Larsen is a story told in the perspective of Irene Redfield, a fair skinned African
American woman, who worries that her husband s restlessness in their marriage is due to a possible
affair with her friend Clare. As Irene gets ready for an event she thinks to herself: With this self
assurance that she had no real knowledge, she redoubled her efforts to drive out of her mind the
distressing thought of faiths broken and trusts betrayed which every mental vision of Clare, of Brian,
brought with them. She could not, she would not, go again through the tearing agony that lay just
behind her, (Larsen, ch. 3.2). Having no real knowledge if her husband s affair is true helps her to put
the thought in the back of her mind, however the reader finds that the affair is not real. This
imagination of Brian and Clare shows that Irene is mentally unstable, she does not like what she
imagines when she thinks of Clare, of Brian, the two together, yet it is better to handle then the agony
she faces at the thought of Brian s sexuality. The matter of his sexuality is something she refuses to
think about which is why she forms the theory of his infidelity to protect herself from the truth, yet it
only drives her deeper into insanity. However, Irene is not the only one who is brought to insanity by

12. My College Life In High School
I am an international student and last year I was invited by my high school to do a sharing about my
college life in the United States. I am getting everything I want, with the help of my family I started
the sharing by this sentence. After a deep breath, I began my story.
Two years ago, I just graduated from my high school in my home country, thinking that I could get
into one of my dream schools in the United States and enjoy my fantastic 4 year college life. Since my
GPA in high school was pretty high, I expected that all universities would like to accept students like
me. I started applying for a couple of schools that I was very interested in, but did not receive any
good news. Knowing all my friends had got their acceptance letters, I felt inferior and began to
complain about my family s social and financial status. I complained about why my family could not
afford me to go to a high school in the States so that I could have more chances to get into universities
that I wanted. Another reason why I was so anxious was that I did not apply for any schools in my
home country, so I had to take one gap year in the worst case. I did not want to do so because I
thought everyone would feel disappointed in me and perhaps looked down on me. Unfortunately, I
was rejected by all my dream schools. At that moment, I was extremely frustrated; I lost my
confidence, I lost my hope, I could not see the road ahead of me. Then, I had depression.

14. Cultural Differences Between The Nisei And The Issei
In 1869, the first Japanese Immigrants arrived in California in an attempt to escape the Meiji
restoration, which forced them out of their houses. Many joined them in America after that, forming
the first generation of Japanese Americans, the Issei. Those immigrants then formed families and gave
birth to the second generation, the Nisei. However, the cultural differences between the Issei and the
Nisei, who were all born in America, created an important gap between the two generations. The short
story Seventeen Syllables , through the relation between Rosie, a Nisei young girl, and Tome Hayashi,
her mother, is a good depiction of this issue.
First of all, the lack of a common language between the Nisei and the Issei was the main problem in
their relations. Most the Nisei went to American schools where they learned everything in English.
The Issei, for their part, had learned Japanese as their first language. In Seventeen Syllables , Rosie
only has little knowledge in Japanese. Here, the author describes a bit more her level in that language:
It was about cats, and Rosie pretended to understand it thoroughly and appreciate it no end, partly
because she hesitated to disillusion her mother about the quantity and quality of Japanese she had
learned in all the years now that she had been going to Japanese school every Saturday (and
Wednesday, too, in the summer). (170) It reflects the delicate situation in which that ignorance put the

Physiological and psychological benefits of sports massage treatment

Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system benefits (Physiological)
Sports massage also allows us to have beneficial effects on the sympathetic and parasympathetic
nervous system. Massage allows us to increase these responses by stimulating them more allowing us
to increase the athlete s performance rate and also the increase of sufficient the body works. Within the
sympathetic system we are able to increase the stimulation rate before the activity. This can benefit
athletes by making them prepare quicker to the activity ahead of them, allowing them to increase their
performance rate. Within the parasympathetic system we are able to also increase the sufficiency of
this, allowing athletes to recover quicker and reach an anabolic state quicker. For example, doing a
massage on a marathon runner will allow us to increase their sympathetic nervous system reaction
before the race by preparing them before they run, e.g. increased heart rate, allowing the athlete to
increase their performance rate. After the race, the parasympathetic nervous system will allow the
runner to recover and reduce their working rate more sufficiently and faster. Also stimulating the

18. ##heotypes And Imagery In Louise Erdrich s Dear John Wayne
From the first landing of Columbus s ships in 1492, the Native Americans have been grossly
misunderstood by the Europeans and subsequently, the Americans. Even the name coined for them,
Indians, was only conceived due to the fact that the Spanish thought they had landed in India. Just
from sheer ignorance of the culture alone, Americans have indirectly and directly persecuted
thousands upon thousands of Native Americans young and old. Author Louise Erdrich, a Native
American herself, explores the themes of stereotypes and disregard for a culture in her poem Dear
John Wayne . Through her use of irony and juxtaposition, in combination with imagery, Erdrich paints
a picture for the audience detailing the struggle of being a Native American teen in a largely white
America. Firstly, the initial usage of irony within the poem is woven perfectly in the poem to enhance
to feeling the speaker of the poem is trying to convey; that feeling being the cruel, harsh reality of the
Native American s existence. The American s paint them as violent, ruthless savages, uncultured and
only looking for a fight. The irony is that this slowly starts to show to be true and become a self
fulfilling prophecy when some of the speaker s Native American friends fall over the hood slipping in
the hot spilled butter (1), laughing. This only shows the white people that the stereotypes portrayed in
the movies is true and that the Indians are just a bunch of rowdy, untamed people. However, the

The Demise of Noble Macbeth Credited as one of William Shakespeare s bloodiest and darkest works,
The Tragedy of Macbeth is an emotionally tense, gripping play about loyalty, betrayal and ambition.
Blinded by his vaulting ambition and encouraged by his wife, Macbeth attempted to remove the
obstacles preventing him from being king; these obstacles happened to be other characters in the play.
Macbeth accepted the prophecies of witches as a guide for what would be, and misjudged what they
told him. In the end, his overconfidence led him to his death as he believed that he could not be
harmed, when he was just a mortal man. Over the course of Macbeth, one can clearly see the ... Show

A tragic hero is a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his or her own
destruction. According to Aristotle, a tragic hero must have a flaw (hamartia) that leads him or her to
their down fall. The character must show excessive pride (hubris), suffer a reversal of fortune
(peripeteia) and realize that the fortune reversal was because of his/her error in judgement. The
character s fate must also be greater than deserved. In his first soliloquy, Macbeth reveals his hamartia
to be his vaulting ambition; his ambition is pictured as a horseback rider mounting his saddle but
overleaps and falls on the others side of the horse. Macbeth is intrigued by the allure of becoming
King of Scotland but is unwilling to take the necessary steps in order to do so. Macbeth s first
soliloquy reveals him to be an upright, reasonable man that can be swayed by emotion as we see him
weighing the pros and cons of killing Duncan; when Macbeth imagines the murder, he does not focus
on how much he wants to be king, but how sorry everyone will be when it becomes known that
Duncan has been murdered. Macbeth knows that his ambition is not a good reason to kill Duncan and
he has listed all of the reasons not to but when he says, I have no spur/ To prick the sides of my intent,
but only/ Vaulting ambition, which o erleaps itself/ And falls on the other (1.7 25 28) it is suggested
that he will go along with his wife s plan and kill Duncan, giving in to his vaulting

Process Improvement Plan
In week one of this class, I was tasked to design a flowchart for a process in my daily life that I can
improve. I chose my morning routine before work. My goal is to get out of the house by 7:38am
Monday Friday in order to catch my bus for work at 7:41am. I have trouble keeping track of time,
usually missing the bus about one time every two weeks. I have discovered through the flowchart in
week one, that my entire process has serious flaws. All of the bottlenecks were identified and
improved upon as necessary. After collecting data over the past four weeks, I see changes in the
process, using time as the metric. This paper will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final table calculates the upper and lower control limits for the entire sample. Since I wake up
every day at 6:30am and must leave the house by 7:40am, I have 70 minutes total to complete all of
my tasks in the morning. According to my calculations on the final table, I need to leave the house
anywhere between 7:34am and 7:39am. Doing so means that I have made my bus and my process has
been a success for the day.
Seasonal Factors Seasonal factors are defined as the amount of correction needed in a time series to
adjust for the season of the year (Chase, Jacobs, Aquilano, 2006, Chapter 13). The word seasonal does
not always mean weather. Seasonal in business terms is usually classified as an activity of some sort.
In my situation, I don t have any seasonal factors that can affect my morning routine. My husband has
already left the house and I am alone in a stable environment (my home).
Confidence Intervals Confidence intervals allow us to pinpoint data to a degree of confidence. The
intervals are used to estimate the reliability of an estimate. Usually, the confidence levels that are
calculated are 90%, 95%, and 99%. The confidence intervals for my particular situation are as follows:

Introduction Falls are a big concern for all employees in a hospital setting daily. The worst thing that
can happen to a patient while being hospitalized is a fall, or a major fall, that could result in skin
damage (i.e. wounds, skin tears, or abrasions), a fracture or break, thus limiting their independence.
This student s goal was to develop a way to educate staff members in ways they can help reduce the
number of falls that occur. Developing a sample Fall Risk Prevention Policy as well as a Staff in

Has Hollywood s harsh view of the human body resulted in an unrealistic new body standard?
Throughout my life I have repeatedly heard everyone around me say Change is for the better , a
generic phrase that gives false hope to something that does not have a clear answer. The truth is that
change can be both good and bad depending on the situation. Hollywood is currently in the process of
a major change as it keeps branching further and further away from what it once was. As the
popularity of movies continues to rise, the boundaries of what is possible in the movie industry are
becoming limitless. With the help of modern technology, Hollywood has turned its attention to how
well they can make a movie look, rather than the actual acting itself. ... Show more content on

Despite all of their hard work, it may be impossible for some to achieve the looks that are desired in
Hollywood due to genetics and body structure. Many stuntmen turn to illegal drugs and steroids in
order to stay afloat in their industry. Hill discusses this issue of shortcuts by saying, So who on a
movie set would be most likely to take a risk on something unproven that could cause bodily harm?
The stuntmen, of course.... It makes some sense: If you re asked to body double for Ryan Gosling
without the benefit of his trainer and his personal chef, you ll be tempted to take a shortcut, too. (64).
Due to the lack of resources, stuntmen turn to dangerous drugs to be more successful with their career.
If stuntmen are having troubles achieving the body standard that has been set for them, imagine an
average young adult attempting to attain the looks of someone they see in a movie. It would be very
unrealistic to try to achieve such a standard. This is because average young adults don t have the time
or the resources to attain a perfect body. However, due to the amount of control Hollywood has today,
young adults are influenced by celebrities, such as movie characters, and they strive to be just like
them. A trend in both fitness and overall health seems to be occurring currently as young adults are

23. Negative Issues In Social Media
Social media has introduced a new dimension to struggles and trivial struggles for private spaces and
personal expression. Teenagers do not want parents to see their profile on the web or check them while
chatting with friends. Parents are no longer worried only for what their children are wearing out of the
house, but also for the clothes they are photographed in the room to publish their photos. First
invisible interactions with adults suddenly leave traces, pushing parents to worry about conversations
they consider inappropriate or when adolescents share too much .
The attendance and use of the social media in recent years has become a global phenomenon. Young
and old spend many hours of their day on social media. The growing interest in the Social media, in
addition to its great benefits, is creating concerns about the potential consequences for the real life of
adolescents. But who are these digital natives? The term Native Digital indicates young people born
since the mid 1990s who have always lived through the Internet and the new media, and have the
following features: A fluid identity, which in some cases accompanies emotional illiteracy; New
modes of relationship, even affective, which have in their social media their center; The loss of the
concept of privacy, with all the advantages and disadvantages of the case; The ability to use the new
media to enhance their social identity and group creativity (Prensky, 2001).

According to the University of Kansas, historian Jeffrey P. Morgan in his book Teaching, Sex, sex
education first appeared in 1913 when Chicago public schools instituted a lecture series for girls and,
separately boys, on physiology, moral hygiene, and venereal disease . Americans have viewed
adolescent sexuality as an impulse to be controlled, or better, repressed. Sex education has mainly
aimed at saving teenage girls from having early sex, and the prevention of sexually transmitted
diseases. Alfred Kinsey discovered that girls and boys started having sex at younger ages than usual;
this made the change in the curriculum for sex classes critical. Comprehensive sex education classes
are key to our youth to ensure a healthy lifestyle, to obtain a proper education, and to achieve
economic progression. Thus making comprehensive sex education classes more effective than
abstinence only classes.
Abstinence only classes became funded federally in 1996 when Congress passed the landmark
Welfare Reform law. Before then, classes such as Family Life Education, and sexual history were
taught. The Department of Health Science did a study and discovered that the abstinence only classes
were not bringing down the numbers enough to be effective. Now the classes are all evolving into sex
education classes, which teach teenagers safe ways to have sex. The Federal Government has now
stopped all funds of abstinence only classes and started funding sex education classes. The

26. The Ritual Of Sacrificial Suicide
Sacrificial suicide, more commonly known as sati, commenced in the Indian subcontinent as a Hindu
custom. Devi Sati was born to Queen Parusuti and King Dakhsha, who, desiring to parent a baby girl
turned to Devi Adi Parashakti to seek help. The Devi promised to grant their wish, stating that she
herself would be born to them, but that if her manifestation is ever humiliated or insulted, she would
leave the queen and king s lives forever. When Devi Sati reached adolescence, she wished to wed
Lord Shiva against the King s command, but the King humiliated her so Sati set fire to herself and
bore a sacrifice to defend her honor. The custom of sati persisted in the subcontinent for centuries and
in fact persists to today. A widow immolating herself on her husband s funeral pyre or committing
suicide one or another way is seen as a symbol or marital felicity and longevity, as specified by Hindu
scriptures. British imperialists not only justified imperialism by exemplifying sati, but also often took
credit of the practice s abolishment in 1829. The specifics and history of this practice can be
demonstrate through three divergent theories: stadial, hybridity, and post structuralist.
Lord William Bentinck, the governor general of India (1833 1835), portrayed sati as a widely spread
barbarous practice and demanded British action to help save the helpless Indian women. However,
during his reign sati was not as omnipresent as the British colonists made it seem. A maximum

27. Analysis Of Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five Essay

Rhetorical Analysis Essay Draft
Slaughterhouse five
War is a virus, a plagues our world and has experienced since the early ages of time. Once a war is
cured a new strain begins stronger and more unforgiving as the last. Humans are creatures of habit
which continue the violence. Kurt Vonnegut s novel, slaughterhouse five, is a deliberate and well
developed statement against war as expressed through the tone, rhetoric, and characters, making anti
war a prominent theme through the entirety of the novel. Slaughterhouse five advocates for the
prevention of war and all the terrible consequences that follow. Kurt Vonnegut s seemingly parallel
relationship with the main character of the novel, Billy Pilgrim, and the parallels of other characters to
real life individual paints a more vivid and real wickedness to war. All this happened, more or less.
The war parts, anyway, are pretty much true (1). In the first line of the novel Vonnegut declares his
credibility. In 1944, Kurt Vonnegut served in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After this
battle, Vonnegut was captured and became a prisoner of war. He was in Dresden, Germany, during the
Allied firebombing of the city and saw the complete devastation caused by it. Vonnegut himself
escaped harm only because he, along with other POWs (prisoners of war), were working in an

In Mesopotamia, the Babylonians (another group of pastoral nomads) invaded and conquered Sumer,
following a similar method to the Aryans. They also similarly kept laws that tied the poor and inferior
to a stake. Hammurabi, one of the kings of Babylon, went on a mission to create a list of rules for
people to follow, but in order for him to be worthy of this, Hammurabi made sure he had religious
legitimacy. He did this by portraying an image of himself next to the Shamash, god of light and
prosperity, to show that he was worthy of this god s attention. Hammurabi completely glorified
himself. Furthermore, he thought of himself as fair and revolutionary, which is why there was so much
appeal to his name. Some laws that he created benefitted society, but other laws were made to benefit

The 18th Century in colonial America was a time of change, both within the continent of North

colonies, colonists viewed themselves as such: colonists. However, as the 17th Century passes into the
18th, and as the new century went on, colonists viewed themselves as something else: Americans.
These Americans developed new beliefs that alienated themselves from their fellow Europeans, and as
war escalated between France and Great Britain, this feeling was reaffirmed when these Americans
came together to defend their colonies. Nonetheless, this sense of unity and self identity would not

These changes in basic language between the people of England shows that Americans in general were
changing from their origins as they adapted to America, and these developments made the colonists
develop a sense of difference and identity. Major reasons for those to make the journey to the New
World was for them to make a fresh start and gain material wealth through land, an option not
available for those in Europe. North America was seen as a goldmine for making vast fortunes, and it
attracted so many to its shores. Everyone saw this as an equal chance to make a living, for North
America and the colonies promoted a sense of egalitarian and individualistic values in emigrating
Europeans. Edmund Burke, an English Whig, was able to recognize these changing traits and values
in colonists. In a desperate expression to halt the Stamp Act, he said to Parliament Is there a single
Trait of Resemblance between those few Towns, and a great and growing people spread over a vast
quarter of the globe. This politician was able to recognize that Americans in general were vastly
different from Englishmen, for this can be contributed to their new views of equality and an individual

When you think of the Vikings, chances are you think of horned helmets, raids, and bloody battles.
But on the other side of the spectrum, there are the women of Nordic culture. Women are mostly
thought of as looking like Viking warriors fighting alongside their men. But that was hardly the case.
In reality, women were important in many other ways. They were treated very differently than other
women in different European cultures at that time. The home lives of the women in Nordic society
were very important to the social acceptance of who they were. Who they were married to, if they

the time of a divorce, the woman would be given back her dowry that was brought with her at the start

prime example of how women of this culture had it better than many other cultures. What was

cultures where the boys attend school and the girls learn housework, it is believed that neither attended

Atwood shows how women often suppress their sexuality, but instead can reclaim it, and displays how
the popular depictions of rape in the media of the 70s affected people s outlook on it. Some aspects of
her story show the shame and silence related to rape, while other aspects show subversive and
progressive ideas that brings to light that the idea of rape is not an insurmountable one. As with

As stated before, media of the time promoted passive and submissive behavior in women particularly
in the situation of a sexual assault, but even outside of dangerous situations, in a normal relationship.
The feminine movement of the 70s began to recognize and rail against the patriarchy that demanded
women s role as a second class citizen, often viewed as an object or, at best, an inferior dependent.
The traditional role impressed upon women was that of a sexuality that is passive and lacks concern
for the woman s pleasure . Unfortunately, even today, this idea of women s sexuality has not been
eradicated, as evidenced by literature published years after this time Daniel Shank Cruz focuses on the
book The Good Vibrations Guide to Sex, published twenty five years after Rape Fantasies. Good
Vibrations contains scenarios of women s rape fantasies, in which the women in the fantasies are
immobilized and raped by attackers, but they inwardly enjoy it despite their outward appearance. Cruz
points out that the problem with these fantasies is not that the women in the fantasies enjoy their
encounters, because these women claim their sexuality by finding pleasure in a sexual situation.
However, the problem lies in that the women in this book are disempowered, allowed to be used as
impersonal sex objects, denied any control over their

Aaron Burr was the third vice president of the United States and the vice president during Thomas
Jefferson s term. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father of the United States and apart of the
federalist party. Both Hamilton and Burr were each other s political rival and would insult one another
until they arranged a duel to end their dispute. The duel ended with Hamilton shooting Burr in the
right side causing him to die the next day. Newspapers exaggerated the situation by making it seem
like Hamilton murdered Burr out of cold blood and dwindling his reputation as a politician. What
interested me in this chapter was that in the past they used dueling as a way to handle disputes
between one another. However, I don t think that dueling was the smartest method of settling a coral
between people because it is a selfish act that is similar to suicide and risk ruining your life.
Chapter 2:
Chapter 2 consisted of Hamilton considering to resign from being the secretary of treasury if his fiscal

Introduction:
Market risk, or beta risk, is described as a reflection of a project on stockholders risk of a diversified
portfolio. Many factors can influence the market such as war, inflation, and recession. Market risk is
measured by the firm s beta coefficient to determine the effects the market has on the portfolio. In
addition to market risk, there are two forms of risk that managers use to calculate the risk of a
particular project related to holding a diversified portfolio. Stand alone risk is used when the firm s

Stand alone risk often correlated to the corporate risk which often correlates to the market; thus, if
stand alone risk is high, market risk will also be high. Market risk is the riskiness of a well diversified
project (assets or stocks) compared to the market using the markets beta, or slope of a linear
regression. The projects is plotted against the market (beta) risk to determine its risk compared to the
market. Much research has been done on the effects market risk has on stocks, firms, portfolios,
exchange rates, and more. Research often concludes with supporting evidence that support the use of
market risk for estimations and predictions in finance, since the market risk cannot be eliminated from
the stock market.
Market Risk Management:
Understanding market risk is crucial in determining the factors that threaten one s ability to attain
returns from a particular project, single stock, or a portfolio. The impact of market risks is crucial to
determining stability and the return on an investment. Many factors impact the market risk which
effect both global and country economies. Market risk allows a firm to estimate the risk and return on

For highly Non Traditional learners there are several factors that can negatively impact their lives.
Lack of time, including child rearing and full time work that limits time and opportunity is often cited
as a major constraint. Additionally, highly Non Traditional learners are significantly less active in
