Children Should Get Their Children Vaccinated
Exposing a child to a virus or disease strand, no matter how small the dosage, is frightening. There are
multiple complications that come with it but I believe that the benefits outweigh the costs. Vaccines
have saved the world billions of dollars and have been the reason behind the decline of deadly
diseases such as smallpox and measles. Some parents are against vaccinations because they feel as if
the outcomes are unreliable. Parents should get their children vaccinated because it helps lower the
infections and diseases related to mortality rates, is a smart financial investment, and is considerate to
the lives of those around them.
Vaccinations contributes to the overall suppression of a disease. The more children that are vaccinated,
the lower the reports of infection and deaths due to a disease are. The Center for Disease Control, in
an article supporting immunizations, mentions a case in Japan where 80% of the children were
vaccinated for pertussis, or whooping cough. That same year the number of deaths reported were zero
and the infection count was below 400 children. After a while, parents stopped thinking that their
children needed to be vaccinated. That following year only 10% of the children were vaccinated,
which resulted in the death rate increasing by 41% and the number of infections being thirty two times
larger than the previous year. When comparing and contrasting the years, whether not a child got the
vaccination proves to be a huge factor in determining

Accrued Frequent Flyer Report
ACCOUNTING FOR AIRLINE FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAMS: MANAGEMENT
INCENTIVES AND FINANCIAL REPORTING IMPACTS May 2012

ABSTRACT The obligation to provide free or reduced fare travel to passengers who redeem their
accrued frequent flyer program (FFP) benefits represents a significant liability on every major U.S.
airline s balance sheet. Major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for the liabilities
they incur when issuing mileage credits to traveling passengers. The Deferred Revenue Method

CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011 (Whitman,
2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP liabilities for
mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or the Incremental
Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair value of the outstanding
mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as
the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately ) (KPMG, 2008). The Incremental
Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of providing air transportation to eligible
award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to fly one additional passenger on a seat that
otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal amount). Incremental cost accounting has been
subject to scrutiny several times throughout the history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines
have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel prices and weaker travel demand during the global
economic recession, causing flights to be fuller on average and increasing the chance that, for any
given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger
(notwithstanding the fact that many airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP

Complexity Science And Systems Thinking
In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in
conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems thinking.
More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the transformation of
self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems thinking to bring some
clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that attribute the self as a system,
and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate the various aspects of self that
contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems Complexity. Complexity theory, also
known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a unifying framework to understand how parts
of a system and their relationships give rise to the collective behaviors of a system, and how the
system interacts and forms relationships with its environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth
for ease), identified underlying parallels in phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations,
the human immune system, the origins of life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human
brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses, ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy.
The application is prevalent in biology, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, neuroscience, sociology,
anthropology, ecology, psychology, and philosophy, basically

Colonialism By Hernan Cortes Summary
Colonialism, according to Webster s dictionary, is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial
political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (1).
Hernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador, who against the wishes of the crown, set out on an
expedition in 1519 to conquer a new world. Hernan Cortes came with the sole intent to conquer and
economically exploit the new world he intended to conquer. Wikipedia does a decent job at providing
reliable information, but I would argue that there are multiple areas the author can expand on to help
expand the perspective beyond that of a bias. The first suggestion that I would make in this Wikipedia
article would be to provide a more objective view of the native allies/allies, to get an all encompassing
idea of what actually happened. The perspective of this article is that of the Spanish conquistador,
while acknowledging that the author gives nods to various indigenous groups. This is shown through
the authors use of providing only surface level claims, not revealing the true intentions of Cortes
Expedition. In the text, there is a claim made by Cortés that stated the natives think of us as gods, or
godlike beings because the Aztecs and Montezuma thought Cortés was the Aztec god Quatizquatoal
returning. The description of the interaction is mentioned when the author states that Cortes attempted
to frighten the Aztec delegation with a display of his firepower (), this use

Analysis Of Cj Mclaine s Deli And Bakery
CJ Mclaine s Deli and Bakery, LLC, a family claimed little business endeavor, worked in the town of
Evergreen, Colorado. The Italian style shop and pastry kitchen concentrated basically on its lunch
business additionally offered a restricted breakfast menu, a supper takeout menu, and general
providing food administrations. The business was propelled in 2004 and increased noteworthy energy
in its first year of operation (Giapponi, C.McDevitt, 2014). This starting achievement energized the
family managers. Amid its second year, on the other hand, changes in the aggressive environment and
a financial retreat made new impediments that influenced the business and primary concern. To a
degree demoralized, the managers perceived that key plan B must be considered if the business was to
survive. The case shows the trouble of beginning a business and maintaining its development and
force. It highlights the weakness of the little business to changes in the macro environment,
particularly changes in financial variables, and changes identified with industry and aggressive
strengths (Giapponi, C. McDevitt, 2014).
External Opportunities
Individuals can distinguish and assess the opportunities in the business (Dahl, 2011). They may
distinguish a few area properties that would help this kind of business in Evergreen, Colorado. The
character of the zone with its open space and mountain parks, recreational ranges, and an open lake

Justice Technology Practicum taught at IIT Chicago Kent College). The program is as follows: The
Justice and Technology practicum offers both clinical and classroom methods using technology to
provide legal services to moderate low income individuals. A real life justice problem is posed to each
student or student team. The students are challenged to utilize document assembly or the A2J Author®
software to solve the justice problem. In class, the students explore how technologies are changing the
practice of law. List of readings assist students as they begin their research to define the scope of their
projects. The research should address the ethical issues of using the new technology. As student create
a new technology to deliver legal services, they are encouraged to write plain language for the public,
which is becoming an admirable trait for lawyers as providing legal services moves towards more self
represented litigants (S M, p. 712). In the clinical portion, students are required to spend several weeks
observing the legal processes that are at the core of the justice problem that they are assigned to solve

Mesopotamian And Hellenistic Art
In History, artistic achievements have represented cultural advancements in civilized society. The
artist s ability to express themselves on a surface plane has progressed immensely from the prehistoric
era through the present. At one time, techniques were so primitive, simple handheld figures and tools
were all artisans had the ability to craft. However, Mesopotamian and Greek and Hellenistic Art
specifically, modernized the techniques and boundaries of sculpture and figurative art. As time goes
on, an artist s ability to express themselves within their art has progressed. Artists possess the ability to
express personal beliefs through depictions, of which are so detailed many art historians interpret their
meanings similarly. Historically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides the past as a claim for complex art impling cultural prominence in societies, the present is a
great representation of a society s cultural qualities. The United States population s ability to express
themselves has grown the most in recent decades. Specifically in art, one can express themselves
however they want, no: restrictions, limitations, or necessary guidelines. This capability to express one
s self is comparable to our cultures recent stressed activism for the freedom to act without criticism.
Artist s role now, is to be as personal, unique, and creative as possible. Our society is going through a
change of cultural acceptance for those who feel oppressed. Art is currently about being creative and
expressing emotions or ideas through a surface plane medium. However, it always was not this way.
Artists and their art world, from century to century, responds to their societies attributes. Because of
this, past cultures prominence can be interpreted and represented through their art. Recalling the oldest
known art periods, first, the Prehistoric Art era, we can see societies from b.c. through 2500 b.c., that
their cultures were advanced. From personal representations of nature and deities, these people s small
ability to create different types of art shows how they were more skilled craftsman, instead of artists.
Cave Paintings and other art forms represent their hunting and living styles. For example, the Women
from Willendorf, can show how they expressed themselves through art but, art was not considered to
be a profession in the Prehistoric Art era

DNA Replicaiton Cause Cancer Essay
Part A : Defects in DNA Replication Cause Cancer
I. Introduction
As known today, cancer is one of the most lethal diseases in the world. Millions of people died every
year caused by various type of cancer, but the concern is that what does really caused the cancer itself?
Is it because of the lifestyle people have nowadays? Or because of environment that has changed? Or
even sometimes because of the flaw in the replication of DNA? There are lots of probabilities to cause
cancer.
In this section, we will discuss about how does DNA replication could end to cause cancer.
II. Replication of DNA
DNA replication is a process to create two identical molecules of DNA by unification of the DNA on
the parent DNA (DNA template). New DNA strands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, there is a lot of factor leading to cancer. But there are some major factor that have take a big part
in causing cancer to human. Major causes why cancer happened in human is because of consumption
of tobacco and was found in 1964 as the biggest factor that lead to lung cancer by US surgeon (Anand
et al., 2008). Other big factor that proved caused of cancer is a lot of alcohol drinking.
Alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx,
esophagus, liver, colorectum, and female breast, and there is some evidence of an association with
pancreatic cancer (The American Cancer Society, 2011).
Radiation risked human to cancer. That comes with the fact that one of the most common cancer is
caused by radiation, it could be because of some common radiation in example UV (ultraviolet) light,
X ray, etc.
Exposure to UV radiation is a major risk for various types of skin cancers including basal cell
carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma (Anand et al., 2008).
Diet also lead people to cancer, consumption of red meat in big amount with specific amount of time
could lead to intestine cancer. Nitrates and nitrites in meat interfere botulinic exotoxin production in
the body (Divisi, Tommaso, Salvemini, Garramone, Crisci, 2006).
People who are obese have a higher risk of cancer than the normal people are.

Effective Workplace Communication
Listening and Effective Workplace Communication
James Humes, a former presidential speech writer, stated that, the art of communication is the
language of leadership (Leading Thoughts, 2010). Communication is an essential process that is
common in the workplace. Everyone in the workplace especially leaders must communicate with
others. Ideas, conversations, disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through
communication. Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively
communicate. These skills can include feedback, presentation, non verbal communication, and
listening. Listening is the most valuable skills to effective workplace communication because it
enhances job effectiveness, relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a guest calls down to the front desk and complains about their room the front desk clerk needs to
actively listen to know how to respond. A response may include sending up an item that was requested
by the guest or escalating the problem to upper management. Intently listening to the message that is
presented will help employees and managers respond in an appropriate manner. A response to listening
does not always have to verbal. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can be an appropriate
response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal, listening will help to ensure that
the response is effective.
People tend to assume that the most important part of the pyramid is the top but they are incorrect.
The bottom of the pyramid is the most important part of the pyramid. The bottom of the pyramid is the
foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there was a pyramid to represent communication skills,
listening would be the foundation or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each
other and the skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective
communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires effective listening
(Brown, 2009). Listening helps to strengthen the other communication skills like feedback and
presentation. It is hard to present to an audience without understanding the audience s needs. To

Why Do Animals Lack Intelligence
Descartes posits that animals lack intelligence, a characteristic that is distinctly a human possession
(p.30, Adam Tannery). By this he means their ability to be rational, to exercise reason and to speak;
the act of putting words in an orderly fashion to express thoughts. While the deaf and the dumb lack
this possession, they have the ability to speak through a different language, sign language (p.31).
Parrots in contrast, have the ability to speak but lack the comprehension to express higher levels of
thought (p.31). Language is a learnt behavior. If Descartes thought of language as a measure of
intelligence, then Washoe a chimp who has been taught to communicate through American Sign
Language (ASL) would be a refutable example of this statement. Critics argued that the chimps were
only taught to mimic, but Washoe shocked researchers when she taught her adopted son Loulis about
50 ASL signs without researchers intervention2. Surely, this is evidence that animals ... Show more

They have created niches in which they can successfully reproduce and propagate their genes to the
next generation in optimal ways that other animals cannot. This is true for artificial insemination and
genetic sequencing of DNA to select against deleterious genotypes and then inseminate a female with
this optimal zygote. They have also created defense mechanism that has nothing to do with adaptation
in a defense against deadly animals; these include tranquilizers and even guns. With all that being
said, they do not need to concern themselves with developing mechanisms to live in the wild and
surviving against predators. These concerns were the concerns of their ancestors and their non human
counterparts. Humans are now concerned with understanding the complexities of their creation and so
some create religion as means to express that, which cannot be understood through science or tangible

Homer s Use Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons
The satirical show The Simpsons , satirises aspects of life, in this episode its racism. In the episode
Mypods and Boomsticks the show exaggerates the view of Middle Eastern people. In particular the
American view, stereotyping them with terrorism, and using black humour and absurdity to support
that view. This show is aimed at young adult and/or adult viewers, as many references to the real
world may not be understood by younger viewers. The audience is positioned to think about if the
episode is politically correct. The episode uses the technique stereotype . To satirise Middle Eastern
people and the stereotypical American reaction to foreigners. In the episode Homer is prejudice
towards Bashers family and takes steps to expose the family as terrorists. The scene is effective in
using the technique stereotype . This has an effect on the viewer where they see Homer doing

Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter...
It was in the year 1820 in Palmyra, New York that Joseph Smith went into a forest near his house and
prayed to God for the knowledge of what religion he should be apart of. Suddenly God the Father and
His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him giving him the faith that was lost so long ago to be carried on.
He was now given the faith from Jesus Christ himself to pass onto others that had once been lost.
Joseph Smith was chosen to restore the Church of Jesus Christ. In the next decade Joseph Smith
published the Book of Mormon, based on the golden plates that he said an angel had given him
(Ayers). Then started setting up the Latter day Saints Church. He did this on April 6th, 1830, in New
York. Joseph Smith was seen as the leader of the new faith of Mormonism.

Church: The Latter day Saints believe in a loving, personal God as our heavenly Father. Since He is
the Father of our spirits, all people are His children and thus all people are brothers and sisters

church as well as 2 councilors. In church the leaders do not aspire to church positions but rather
respond to callings . They believe God was once mortal as well as that Lucifer was Jesus s brother.

The Treatment Of Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle cell anemia is not only about the body s number of red blood cells (or amount of hemoglobin)
fallen below normal, it s also involves splenic sequestration, vision loss, a stroke, deep vein
thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, gallstones, a very rare form of kidney cancer, etc. Many
different complications feed off of sickle cell anemia, if it s not one thing it s another. There is not a
specific treatment for this disease to make it go away, but as I listed above there are ways of helping
with the pain. It is natural to be scared of catching this disease that is not contagious, but the person
who has the disease is the one who needs to be worrying more about staying away from those who do
not have the disease. Sickle cell anemia causes those to have a higher rick for infection. They have to
take precaution with the food they eat, to be sure food was prepared safely. Those are the therapeutic
ways doctors have helped sickle cell patients today, in the past there were different therapeutic
approaches. Sickle cell disease wasn t yet discovered until the early 1900 s. This disease has been well
known in Africa for at least five thousand years and known by many names in many tribal languages.
(WILLIAM P WINTER) There were many people wondering what this disease what this disease

Substance Abuse In Alice Cooper s From The Inside
Only a select few of albums can boast that they have nothing but excellent songs, and Alice Cooper s
From the Inside is one of these albums. It is not just a great album, but it is Cooper s best. It was co
written with Bernie Taupin, well known as lyricist for Elton John. The album was written as a concept
album after Alice spent time in a sanitarium while battling alcohol addiction. It is rumoured, when his
addiction was at its worst, that he consumed two cases of Budweiser and a bottle of whiskey a day. At
the time he went in for treatment, Betty Ford clinics did not exist so he was actually mixed in with
some odd characters. He has mentioned his time in this clinic, saying that some of the people faked
having problems either to take a break from their lives or because of an insanity plea. ... Show more

These songs make up the bulk of the album. This is where Alice and Bernie really flex their
songwriting muscles because of how they are actually able to embody the characters they are writing
about and bring these people to life. The way they are able to tell a large story in such a short amount
of time takes talent that few have; it was great that Cooper picked Taupin to write with him on the
album. No one writes lyrics the way Taupin does, and the reason the album is so good is because of
Taupin s writing ability. The song about the spoiled little rich girl in I Wish I Was Born in Beverly

Social Features Of Ants
Ants are usually thin and skinny insects. They all have 3 pairs of legs and their bodies are
divided into three main part: head, abdomen and thorax. They are narrowly connected to their
abdomen and thorax. Their antennae are bent in the middle and have chewing mouthparts. The
mouth is an essential working tool for almost every ant. It consists of two sets of jaws: the outer
two, used for carrying food and building the nest and the inner one is used for chewing. Adult
ants are able to swallow only liquids. In the back of the jaw there is a storage packet which
converts solid food into liquid by breaking it down with its strong saliva. They swallow the liquid
part whereas spits out the liquid one. Ants do not have lungs but breathe instead through small

Ants are known as social insects, living in large colonies altogether. The colony is specifically
divided into certain castes or classes: queens (reproductive females), males and workers. There
are way differences between social structures among ant colonies, nonetheless they share few
common basic features. They reside in a community being dependant on one another. They
work as a whole starting from feeding and protecting one another to raising and caring their
young ones. Each member of the community is assigned with specific jobs, from laying eggs to
gathering food to fighting. For these ants, colony life centers around the nest which can be
underground, a mound or even at the treetops. An ant colony is the busiest and crowded place.
Like many other social insects, ants do have three classes: queen ants, worker ants and male
ants. A queen is a vital member of the colony but does not rule the colony. Her only job is to lay
eggs in absence of which the colony would die out. The reason behind this is that only queens
can reproduce. A colony may have one or several queens. For example; a European wood

A Study Of Latin American History
IV. Methodologies and trends
Caribbean
Many often consider the study of Latin American history or subjects like race to show that Much of
Latin American historical studies are comparative. Many of the Latin American countries have their
own history but share similar cultural conductions concerning race. The history of race relations in
Latin America has become a central theme in a fair amount of scholarly activities. This in turn has
made the historiography of Latin America to become much more relevant when looking at race around
the world. One of the more popular works by Frank Tannenbaum called Slave Citizen drew from
many popular sources and historians. It is also important to remember much of the data and sources
used when studying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Americas developed and deepened, providing new perspectives on the colonial and national

order to create a better understanding from both sides of the ocean. This is a relatively new method
that ties in with the new post modern trends of combining social with historical. Many modern
historians as well are trying to racially define subgroups because much of the historical narratives
have been built on nation building. As we will see the historiography of race relations has been a fast
growing area in historical research and is very lively in countries such as Dominican Republic and
Brazil where there are large African origins.
There are many studies on race in Caribbean history as race has played an important role in historical
narratives there as well as affected all aspects of life. There is much literature on this subject however,
it is important to know that this is partly due to race being a central theme in sociological and
anthropological studies. Another common trend we find in Latin American history

Song of Solomon
Toni Morrison s award winning novel Song of Solomon is full of very interesting, deep symbolism.
Macon Dead III, nicknamed Milkman, is a very symbolic character throughout the novel. His
character is not only symbolic, for so is his name. Also, Milkman s paternal aunt, Pilate, has an
extremely significannot and symbolic role in the novel. To her father, she represents the child who
killed her own mother and took away her father s wife. Seeing that Pontius Pilate sentenced Jesus to

The fact that she depends so heavily upon her son reveals the numerous insecurities she has about
herself. It is the character and the name of Milkman Dead that enlighten readers of these highly
significannot facts and symbols throughout the novel.
br
br Though Milkman is a very symbolic character in Song of Solomon, he is not the only one. Pilate
also has both a very symbolic character and name. First of all, her name is derived from the biblical
name of Pontius Pilate, the man who sentenced Jesus to death on the cross. This name is very
symbolic of her father s feelings toward her. Although her father does not purposely choose her name,
considering he can t read, it quickly comes to signify the fact that her father feels that Pilate killed her
mother, seeing as that her mother died during childbirth. Ironically, however, Pilate is murdered at the
end of the book when she and Milkman go to give her father a proper burial.
br
br Pilate also represents a great deal more than a murderer. She has a large part of her mother s spirit
in her because although, physically, her mother dies while giving birth to her, part of her soul enters
Pilate, so part of her literally lives in her daughter. Therefore, when Pilate is killed during the burial of
her father, it shows that both she and her mother are tired of life, they have both lived it to the fullest,
and they both want to rest in peace with Pilate s father.

Mandatory Abortion In The United States
Reportedly, there have been 24,446,288 abortions worldwide this year and 1,346,127,480 since 1980,
with no sign of ceasing. Each year the abortion industry brings in over $1.1 billion in America alone.
Abortions seem to be just another way to dispose of unwanted merchandise or fix an unwanted
problem. Is that all our children are unwanted merchandise; problems to be fixed? Wikipedia defines
abortion as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can
survive on its own. I want to pose this question: what is just about stripping another human being of
his/her right to live?
As it stands today, American women have the legal right to obtain an abortion in all 50 states, through
all nine months of pregnancy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

stance on the issue. I believe that once a child is conceived, they have just as much right to live and
prosper as any other corporeal human being. Medical and health issues with the mother should be the
only reason we consider such heinous measures. There are so many other avenues one could take that
do not involve killing the unborn child (e.g. adoption, interim foster care, and parenting). It saddens
me that children s lives are so disposable. There are not trash to be thrown away. In my view, when
babies are aborted we not only lose a member of society, we also lose a future doctor, a future lawyer,
a future philanthropist a future president that could have made a

3) In what ways did Charles Hamilton Houston and W.E.B. DuBois differ in their approaches to
school integration? Why? [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if
you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal system. He was a
prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal
realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston,
but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois
approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that
blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didn
t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school
integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by
saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in
society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. Oklahoma State Regents in

Individualism In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead
The Fountainhead written by Ayn Rand primarily revolves around the protagonist Howard Roark and
his struggle to maintain his individuality and morals in the face of opposing forces. Howard
demonstrates this struggle in the act of dynamiting the Cortlandt Homes and fighting for his freedom
in court. Throughout the novel, Howard s ego stands firm against public opinion, he does not waver
despite opposition in instances such as the construction of the Stoddard Temple, the building of the
Aquitania Hotel, and the erection of the Enright House. Howard s attitude correlates to a main theme
in the novel, which was that individualism is the more rational lifestyle. However, Howard s rationale

Objectivism is the Philosophy of rational individualism and morality. (Thomas, n.p) It holds that there
is no greater moral goal than to achieve happiness; which is exactly what Howard strives to achieve
through creating building to please him, not others. Objectivism is optimistic, holding that the
universe is open to human achievement and happiness and that each person has within him the ability
to live a rich, fulfilling, independent life. (Matthew, np) Objectivism also praises individuality and
condemns altruism, stating that to achieve you must only help yourself. Because of his beliefs,
Howard feels that he does not require punishment for the explosion of the Cortlandt homes. He also
feels that because of the details of his ideals he had to destroy the buildings. Bringing in the objectivist
philosophy it was a matter of integrity; of which Howard was very protective. He fights to keep his
integrity and the destruction of the Cortlandt house was the result. Howard chose to represent himself
in the trial; during the trial, Howard chooses the least sympathetic jury and makes his case by using a
moving speech. Howard chooses that specific jury, because he knew that if the jury did not have a
basic understanding of the planks of Objectivism then they would not have been able to comprehend
and agree with his standing on the destruction of the Cortlandt homes. He does not call any witnesses,

Civil Liberties And Airport Security
Are the civil liberties of the citizens of the United States sacrificed during the airport security checks
with the use of body scanners for the sake of national security? This week thousands of Americans
will board airplanes to head to their Thanksgiving destinations, and they will need to undergo several
security checks in order to advance to their flight. Since September 11, 2001, the vulnerability and
fear arose in the United States citizens about the security tactics in place to protect our nation. One
area of concern was the airport security measures that allowed al Qaeda and their associates to take
control of United State s airplanes to carry out their plan of attack. The fear of another terrorist attack
taking place on the airplanes resulted in extraordinary security tactics immediately emerging to protect
the citizens. Further instances of other threats required more advanced security equipment to be
installed, such as the body scanners. Statistics revealed there were an estimated 793 scanners (full
body scanners) in use in March 2016 in more than 157 airports in the United States (Jansen). All of
these security measures have taken place with the expense of sacrificing civil liberties. Although, the
body scanners were developed to protect the people, the civil liberties of the United States citizens are
sacrificed for the sake of national security through invasion of privacy, inefficiencies, misuse, and
expense.

If the 5 year amortization were applied in its place of the 40 year timetable, then it is necessary for

Women s Inequality In Honduras
Throughout history, women have been viewed as the inferior sex. Due to this, women have faced
discrimination all over the world. This has had many negative impacts on the lives women, one of
these being on their health. Poor health in women is often associated with domestic and sexual
violence, cultural and religious oppression, and lack of access to education, as well as many other
factors. One of the most delicate things that a woman can go through is pregnancy. Many women
around the world have to give birth without the assistance of a professional and die during childbirth
or during the 48 hour period after. Many of these deaths can be avoided if the appropriate measures
were to be taken. The Republic of Honduras believes that action must be taken to improve the health

Emile Research Paper
Emile s moral education grounded in nature leads to the cultivation of imagination, which in turn leads
to the transformation of his amour propre. With amour propre one begins to compare themselves to
others and then the desire for attachment is born to provide for the sexual desires. Emile s imagination
allows him to learn from events he sees, which in turn allows him to see himself in the position of
others. By seeing himself as others, Emilie realizes that everyone suffers, not just him, but he also
realizes that he is superior and can help those suffering more than him. Emile s desire for attachment
leads him to Sophie, who allows Emile to transform from what Rousseau refers to as a good man into
a moral man. The goal of Emile s education was to make him fit for society, but not corrupted by
society. Because Emile has been made fit for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only when Sophie and Emile are together, can either of them be truly moral. By delaying the spark of
imagination, Emile is able to develop his amour propre and fall in love with the idea of his beloved.
The cultivation of Emile s imagination leads to the development of his amour propre, which then leads
to the ability to feel pity, and pity, once generalized to mankind, leads to virtue. The transformation of
Emile into a moral man begins before the marriage of Sophie and Emile, while Emile is away from
Sophie, but the process is completed when Emile follows through on his promise to love Sophie.
The cultivation of Emile s imagination is essential for the development of his amour propre. Rousseau
believes that Emilie should learn from events rather than books. One learns much more from the
conversation with authors than in their books . . . It is the spirit of societies which develops a
thoughtful mind and extends our vision as far as it can go. (Bloom tr., 342). Rousseau believes that

Gandhi s Life And Achievements
Gandhi is one of the most beloved and recognized public figures in modern history. His life, teachings
and brilliant strategies brought peace and happiness to billions of people worldwide. Born Mohandas
K. Gandhi in 1869 to modest parents in Porbandar India, the young pupil went on to study law in
England. Gandhi was married to his wife, Kasturbai, at age thirteen, as is the custom in India for
arranged marriages. After finishing law school in England and passing the bar, Gandhi, his wife and
two young children resettled in South Africa. While working as a layer in South Africa, Gandhi
became impassioned about the second class treatment he and some fellow Indians received at the
hands of the British. Thus, Gandhi began his life of public service while in South Africa. The
traditions of India, Hinduism and Brahman wisdom played a large part in the formation of Gandhi s
beliefs. For instance, his spiritual beliefs were also his political beliefs and the Mahatma undertook
great efforts to make sure that the two were conjoined. In an interview with Louis Fischer, Gandhi
recounts what I have been striving and pining to achieve these thirty years is self realization, to see
God face to face, to attain Moksha (Fischer, 22). Thus, his spiritual goals are reflected in all his work.
Spiritual beliefs led the movement and its leader to practice non violence, hunger strikes and passive
resistance. The Mahatma was also engaged in literary, philosophical and political endeavors. In

basketball, but I found those to difficult. My dad first brought me to a pool, to splash around in the

river were. So I began group lessons on the basics on how to swim, most of the other participants were

Business Plan For The New Business
Business plans are used to outline the details of a new business. This is then used as a tool to attract
potential investors to help out with the startup of the company (Ramsey 182). Additionally, it helps
those who are starting up a business examine what it will actually take for the new business to be
successful (Ramsey 183). However, business plans are not solely reserved for those who are starting a
new business; some businesses create business plans to show how they will improve or restructure
their business through strategic planning (Ramsey 182).
There are many different topics and details that should be included in a business plan. Some main
topics include a market analysis, which includes the identification of likely customers, competitors,
and why it will sell to a particular market; a marketing/ advertising plan, which includes the cost of
marketing, how clients will be reached, and the strategies for persuading target markets; a financial
plan, which includes all major financial factors such as proposed revenue and the amount of customers
expected; a management/ organizational plan, such as the organization of the business; and an
implementation plan, which includes information about the facilities and materials necessary for
production (Ramsey 185 187).

Reflective Essay On High School Education
In high school, I had to advocate for myself; if I wanted something I made sure my teachers and
counselors knew my hopes and dreams for the future. As a senior, I decided that my AP Photography
class was not benefiting my education and I was not becoming a better photographer or student
through the class. I knew that my creativity would be better used in an AP Ceramics setting. So, in
order to get my classes switched I had to be my own advocate for the well being of my education. I
visited my counselor weekly until my class was finally changed and I was in a class I truly enjoyed.
Though I am aware that my high school is an exception to the typical public school education, it is
important to note that not all students are uninterested in learning. In the year, I was placed in AP
Ceramics, I learned countless skills including, wheel throwing, soldering copper, glaze mixing, and
even determination and persistency. So, in my high school career I learned both critical thinking as
well as vocational skills to create a well rounded education.

Summary Ted Talk and Debate
I watched two videos about Mexico s drug cartel this week, a Ted Talk and a debate on whether the
U.S. is to blame for the Mexican Drug War. The Ted talk focused on the business aspect of drug
cartels, which is something that I don t hear very often. The debate video was two teams debating to
sway the audience s opinion on whether the U.S. is to blame for the Mexican Drug Wars. While each
person had their own unique ideas, it seemed likely most or all of them agreed on one point, and that
was that the U.S. did share some of the responsibility for the drug war. In both videos, they discussed
the business side of the drug cartels. The bulk of this conversation happened in the Ted Talk, although

by charging excessive fees, for what may be unbeknownst to the layman a basic case. This has led
critics to question whether the legal profession has done everything in its power to address the subject
of legal costs particularly contingency fees and the issues which they raise, namely that of conflict of
interests and the promotion of access to justice.
Background:
This paper will focus on the relatively new development of contingency fee agreements, of which
there are two: conditional fee agreements and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As such, a conflict arises when a lawyer is able to settle a case faster, but in doing so accepts less
money for the client than they would receive should they have gone through trial. Although this may
be looked at with dismay law firms are businesses and survive only if they kill enough work to eat .
Thus, as the probability for a favourable outcome decreases, a lawyer may opt for a settlement despite
it not necessarily being in the best interests of the client. The chances of a lawyer agreeing to a
settlement offer early on may increase depending on how many similar cases the attorney is handling.

In these situations, the lawyer should use his skills to benefit the client, yet, he uses his positon of
power and exploits the client s vulnerability. Although ethically reprehensible, such dishonest
practices are difficult to detect since the bargaining parties are seldom equipped with the necessary
knowledge to make an informed judgement concerning the case. It is this, which makes legal fees a
difficult subject to approach how [are] lawyers to make a living [while] stay[ing] fairly honest? . Still,

It s no secret that we re all going to die at some point or another. However, we ve got a list of 20 of the

American Civil war began as a result. The effects of the spreading new ideas influences the music
society greatly. In earlier times, musicians were usually employed by the church or the court
(Dobney). Famous composers, such as Beethoven and Mozart, would play at venues that the church or
royalty designated. With the rise of the middle class, and the poor wanting to witness and learn about
the arts right along with the rich, a new public spectacle was created. With the development of music
in the nineteenth century a larger number of people could now ... Show more content on

opera work (Dobney). This is where we see the change in the seating arrangements for orchestras, a

the Orchestral Standardization, the string instruments were located in the front of the orchestra, with
the woodwind behind, followed by the brass instruments, and the precision instruments in the very
back (Detrick). Orchestras made of these instruments were capable of rich and varied sound
combinations ideally suited for the new Classical form of the symphony (pg 546 Cunningham).
Everything relating to music kept growing and expanding. Even instruments were changing in
popularity. In the eighth century the harpsichord was a very famous instrument but as music
developed the love for the harpsichord declined. Audiences were being dazzled by music throughout

  • 2. Children Should Get Their Children Vaccinated Exposing a child to a virus or disease strand, no matter how small the dosage, is frightening. There are multiple complications that come with it but I believe that the benefits outweigh the costs. Vaccines have saved the world billions of dollars and have been the reason behind the decline of deadly diseases such as smallpox and measles. Some parents are against vaccinations because they feel as if the outcomes are unreliable. Parents should get their children vaccinated because it helps lower the infections and diseases related to mortality rates, is a smart financial investment, and is considerate to the lives of those around them. Vaccinations contributes to the overall suppression of a disease. The more children that are vaccinated, the lower the reports of infection and deaths due to a disease are. The Center for Disease Control, in an article supporting immunizations, mentions a case in Japan where 80% of the children were vaccinated for pertussis, or whooping cough. That same year the number of deaths reported were zero and the infection count was below 400 children. After a while, parents stopped thinking that their children needed to be vaccinated. That following year only 10% of the children were vaccinated, which resulted in the death rate increasing by 41% and the number of infections being thirty two times larger than the previous year. When comparing and contrasting the years, whether not a child got the vaccination proves to be a huge factor in determining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CNBC estimated that over 15 trillion frequent flyer miles were outstanding as of May 2011 (Whitman, 2011). Today, major U.S. airlines employ one of two methods to account for FFP liabilities for mileage credits earned by paying passengers: either the Deferred Revenue Method or the Incremental Cost Method. The Deferred Revenue Method recognizes a liability for the fair value of the outstanding mileage credits (with fair value defined under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as the amount for which the award credits could be sold separately ) (KPMG, 2008). The Incremental Cost Method recognizes a liability for the marginal cost of providing air transportation to eligible award passengers (i.e. the cost of taxes, fuel, food, etc. to fly one additional passenger on a seat that otherwise would have been empty generally a nominal amount). Incremental cost accounting has been subject to scrutiny several times throughout the history of FFPs. Within the past few years airlines have reduced seating capacity due to high fuel prices and weaker travel demand during the global economic recession, causing flights to be fuller on average and increasing the chance that, for any given seat, a passenger flying on redeemed frequent flyer miles could displace a fare paying passenger (notwithstanding the fact that many airlines limit the number of seats eligible to be reserved using FFP ... • 4. Complexity Science And Systems Thinking In the prior chapter, I established both the multiplicity and malleability of identity and its role in conflict transformation. I will now explore the literature on complexity science and systems thinking. More specifically, I investigate the self as a complex adaptive system to support the transformation of self, society, and conflict. First I will look at complexity science and systems thinking to bring some clarity and definition to the inquiry, then I will explore the sciences that attribute the self as a system, and furthermore, as a complex adaptive system in order to illuminate the various aspects of self that contribute to transformative processes. Complexity Systems Complexity. Complexity theory, also known as complexity science, or complex systems, is a unifying framework to understand how parts of a system and their relationships give rise to the collective behaviors of a system, and how the system interacts and forms relationships with its environment. Complexity (as I will refer henceforth for ease), identified underlying parallels in phenomena as diverse as the rise and fall of civilizations, the human immune system, the origins of life, the evolution of species, the workings of the human brain, the onset of psychiatric illnesses, ecological systems, genetic selection, and the world economy. • 5. Colonialism By Hernan Cortes Summary Colonialism, according to Webster s dictionary, is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically (1). Hernan Cortes was a Spanish conquistador, who against the wishes of the crown, set out on an expedition in 1519 to conquer a new world. Hernan Cortes came with the sole intent to conquer and economically exploit the new world he intended to conquer. Wikipedia does a decent job at providing reliable information, but I would argue that there are multiple areas the author can expand on to help expand the perspective beyond that of a bias. The first suggestion that I would make in this Wikipedia article would be to provide a more objective view of the native allies/allies, to get an all encompassing idea of what actually happened. The perspective of this article is that of the Spanish conquistador, while acknowledging that the author gives nods to various indigenous groups. This is shown through the authors use of providing only surface level claims, not revealing the true intentions of Cortes Expedition. In the text, there is a claim made by Cortés that stated the natives think of us as gods, or godlike beings because the Aztecs and Montezuma thought Cortés was the Aztec god Quatizquatoal returning. The description of the interaction is mentioned when the author states that Cortes attempted to frighten the Aztec delegation with a display of his firepower (), this use ... This capability to express one s self is comparable to our cultures recent stressed activism for the freedom to act without criticism. Ideas, conversations, disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through communication. Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively communicate. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can be an appropriate response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal, listening will help to ensure that the response is effective. The bottom of the pyramid is the foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there was a pyramid to represent communication skills, listening would be the foundation or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each other and the skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires effective listening (Brown, 2009). • 11. Why Do Animals Lack Intelligence Descartes posits that animals lack intelligence, a characteristic that is distinctly a human possession (p.30, Adam Tannery). By this he means their ability to be rational, to exercise reason and to speak; the act of putting words in an orderly fashion to express thoughts. While the deaf and the dumb lack this possession, they have the ability to speak through a different language, sign language (p.31). Parrots in contrast, have the ability to speak but lack the comprehension to express higher levels of thought (p.31). Language is a learnt behavior. If Descartes thought of language as a measure of intelligence, then Washoe a chimp who has been taught to communicate through American Sign Language (ASL) would be a refutable example of this statement. Critics argued that the chimps were only taught to mimic, but Washoe shocked researchers when she taught her adopted son Loulis about 50 ASL signs without researchers intervention2. Each year the abortion industry brings in over $1.1 billion in America alone. Abortions seem to be just another way to dispose of unwanted merchandise or fix an unwanted problem. Is that all our children are unwanted merchandise; problems to be fixed? Wikipedia defines abortion as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own. [Optional: Who do you think was right and why? You may use extra lines if you would like to respond.] Houston fought for black civil rights through the legal system. He was a prominent black lawyer and believed that legal tradition inspired judicial restraint, whereas legal realism inspired judicial activism. This not only sparked a change in those that worked with Houston, but it incorporated using laws to help blacks with civil injustices wherever possible. DuBois approached school integration and civil rights issues through militant socialism. He believed that blacks needed to strengthen their own infrastructure in order to gain a better social structure. This didn t sit well with the NAACP. I believe that Houston had a better approach to the issue of school integration because his approach was accepted by more individuals. DuBois offended more people by saying that blacks needed to create a change amongst themselves in order to be accepted more in society. 4) The Supreme Court ruled on Sweatt v. Painter and McLaurin v. Throughout the novel, Howard s ego stands firm against public opinion, he does not waver despite opposition in instances such as the construction of the Stoddard Temple, the building of the Aquitania Hotel, and the erection of the Enright House. He fights to keep his integrity and the destruction of the Cortlandt house was the result. Howard chose to represent himself in the trial; during the trial, Howard chooses the least sympathetic jury and makes his case by using a moving speech. Civil Liberties And Airport Security Are the civil liberties of the citizens of the United States sacrificed during the airport security checks with the use of body scanners for the sake of national security? This week thousands of Americans will board airplanes to head to their Thanksgiving destinations, and they will need to undergo several security checks in order to advance to their flight. Since September 11, 2001, the vulnerability and fear arose in the United States citizens about the security tactics in place to protect our nation. One area of concern was the airport security measures that allowed al Qaeda and their associates to take control of United State s airplanes to carry out their plan of attack. The fear of another terrorist attack taking place on the airplanes resulted in extraordinary security tactics immediately emerging to protect the citizens. Further instances of other threats required more advanced security equipment to be installed, such as the body scanners. Statistics revealed there were an estimated 793 scanners (full body scanners) in use in March 2016 in more than 157 airports in the United States (Jansen). All of these security measures have taken place with the expense of sacrificing civil liberties. Gandhi was married to his wife, Kasturbai, at age thirteen, as is the custom in India for arranged marriages. After finishing law school in England and passing the bar, Gandhi, his wife and two young children resettled in South Africa. While working as a layer in South Africa, Gandhi became impassioned about the second class treatment he and some fellow Indians received at the hands of the British. Thus, Gandhi began his life of public service while in South Africa. The traditions of India, Hinduism and Brahman wisdom played a large part in the formation of Gandhi s beliefs. For instance, his spiritual beliefs were also his political beliefs and the Mahatma undertook great efforts to make sure that the two were conjoined. In an interview with Louis Fischer, Gandhi recounts what I have been striving and pining to achieve these thirty years is self realization, to see God face to face, to attain Moksha (Fischer, 22).
