The event aims to disseminate information on progress from initial phases of parts of the wider £180 million BEIS investment through the NIP and promote opportunities for the next phase of the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials (AMM) Programme. Phase 2A participants for the AMM programmes – as part of the wider NIP will disseminate findings from their work through presentations. This is to ensure that information is shared with the wider industry in order to promote fairness and transparency for potential suppliers and collaborators that wish to bid into the next phase of work. The event will also promote grant call for the AMM Phase 2B (Advanced Manufacturing and Construction) programme – followed by Q&A sessions. The wider AMM Phase 2 programme forms part of the Government commitment under the Nuclear Sector Deal. Through this Phase 2B call, Government will provide up to £10 million to demonstrate advanced manufacturing and construction techniques through development and use of a demonstrator. 2. Introduction - AMM
• Key component of both the Nuclear Innovation Programme
and Nuclear Sector Deal.
The 5-year outcomes for the AMM programme are:
• To deploy the UK’s AMM research capability to deliver new
nuclear technologies.
• To develop and demonstrate a suite of advanced component
manufacturing technologies to drive down costs.
• To deliver a suite of modular construction techniques and
technologies to enable effective nuclear plant build.

3. The Phase 2B Call, what’s new?
• Narrower scope (materials, coolant chemistry, codes and standards)
• Advanced construction
• Maximum award to a single project is £5m
• New grant intensity limits have been applied*
• You do not need to have taken part in previous phases of AMM

4. Scope
• Up to £10m grant fund.
• Technology demonstrator, or a number of demonstrators that
include advanced manufacturing/construction techniques
• Example demonstrations may involve:
– Trial builds
– Development of facilities or rigs that are manufactured and constructed
with advanced approaches including modular construction
– Use of digital techniques that may support design and assurance activities
• These techniques could then be applied to the build, maintenance
and decommissioning of a nuclear power plant as well as future
technologies.

• Benefits to either generic or specific nuclear technologies
• Clear path to deployment of the chosen AMC technique
They should be capable of meeting the required standards for deployment in
an operational environment (or significantly improve the understanding of
the requirements for operational deployment).
Each demonstrator project will encompass at least one of the Phase 2B work
areas:

7. Key Eligibility Criteria
• Phase 1 and 2A: Applicants do not need to have taken part in
previous phases of the AMM programme.
• Develop technology/technique applicable to deployment of
nuclear energy: Proposal must address at least one topic within the
AMC work areas.
• Reduction in cost over traditional method: Component, system or
structure which demonstrates a reduction in cost over traditional
manufacturing and/or construction techniques relevant to the
nuclear sector.
• Ability to meet regulatory standards: Demonstrate that project
activities are able to meet NIA 1965 license condition 17 and
enhance the use of digital information to support regulation.
• Project Location: The majority of the project’s activities must be
conducted in the UK.

8. Key Eligibility Criteria 2
• Project duration: Projects can last up to 12 months and must
be complete by the end of March 2021.
• Grant size: The maximum grant call for any one project under
this call is £5m with a grant intensity limit of up to 80%.

9. Key Eligibility Criteria 3
Applicants and Project team make-up:
• Both single company and consortium bids will be considered. Consortia
applications must be submitted by the lead project member.
Members of the project team must be:
• UK-registered private sector companies: both SMEs (as defined by the
EU5) and large enterprises can apply for funding as part of a consortium
with other private sector companies or in a consortium with academic,
research, public, third sector or community organisations;
• UK academic, research, public, third sector or community organisations
must work as part of a project consortium with private sector organisations
– they cannot be sole applicants to this competition;
• International organisation may participate as consortia members with UK
organisations, as set out above – They cannot be sole applicants or project
leads.
• The project team must include an organisation with the capability to
deploy the outputs of the demonstration.

Applicants are invited to submit project applications to
nuclearinnovation@beis.gov.uk by 19th February 2020.
The application documents are:
• Application form
• Partner Details form (if applicable)
• Finance form (one per project application)
• Gantt chart or similar tool.
• Letters of support from collaborators/partners (where relevant)
The Application form consists of several sections, each with a character limit.
Applications must not exceed the set character limits.
BEIS will accept additional supporting information in the form of further
annexes. However, you should not assume that any additional information
will be reviewed as part of the selection process and your application should
not rely on information cross-referenced within annexes.
