Two years after Enron filed for bankruptcy in 2001, Nancy b. Rapoport wrote this essay expressing
her unique perspective on the real cause of Enron s demise. This essay catches the reader s attention
instantly, because unlike abundant other articles written on the biggest corporate scandal in
American history, the author here rejects Jeff Skilling s (former president of Enron) argument1 of
what brought about Enron s downfall. She instead uses another metaphor, arguing that Enron s
downfall was more like Titanic s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would go a step further to say that it seems like the author has taken the metaphors a bit too
seriously and would agree with Mark s comment in Lawyers in the Perfect Storm3 that her
insistence on comparison of the Enron scandal to the tragicomedy of human errors in the sinking of
the Titanic underestimates the importance of the systemic failures that allowed the malign
leadership of Enron to produce such an enormous disaster. Nevertheless, she develops her further
argument well as she explores the inextricable link between Character and Leadership. She
elaborates on the inevitable failure of character in Enron leaders to resist illegal deals when the
supervisors of those leaders were also engaging in side deals (pg 209). Her close attention to the
underlying conflict of human traits and situations, aggravated by the magnitude of profits offered
by the Enron culture justifies her statement, why it must have taken significant strength of character
to resist getting on that gravy train (pg 210).

Moreover, the author does not merely conclude her argument, rather deals well with counter
evidence as she considers the few people that did resist and play the role of whistle blowers. Her
point that most whistle blowers at Enron were suppressed with downright abuse

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity
In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today
because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social
media is ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an
online community for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is
constantly increasing. Teens now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30%
of all time spent online is now allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online
communications does not allow people to truly express themselves for who they truly are. There
is a loss of social and personal development communicating through social media. For instance,
people online are unable to use body language, tone, voice and facial expressions through a text.
An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in four people spend more time socialising
online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person, according to research. The study
also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face to face, on weekends for
example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on their devices
instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s ability to
communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social anxiety
and not project their voice loud enough for their audience to hear them. For

The Causes Of Teen Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy is not a subject to take lightly. Being in high school, students are held to high
standards. They are in fact young adults who are trying to build their success to go onto the next
step in life, but just one mistake can ruin everything. Having unprotected sex is the leading cause to
teenagers getting pregnant. Oral contraceptives are recommended if girls are sexually active, but
being on birth control does not give them one hundred percent accuracy of not becoming pregnant.
A problem to teen pregnancies can be unprotected sex, as said in the first paragraph, that is the
number one cause to getting pregnant. When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start
to develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex.
Having sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their
partner, they are putting their own life at risk. Almost 1,700 teen girls get pregnant every single day
(Teen Vogue). That is seventy girls every hour.
Not only can becoming pregnant be hard for the mother, but for the child too. The normal signs
that the teen may be pregnant can be that she misses her period or that she gets morning sickness.
Mothers may experience high blood pressure (hypertension), and they have a higher risk of
preeclampsia. This is a dangerous medical condition that combines high blood pressure

The Destruction of the Corn Earworm
INTRODUCTION
Corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (formerly Heliothis zea) (Lepidoptera: Moctuidae), is
one of the most damaging insect crop pest in North America and causes millions of dollars of
economic damage each year (Capinera 2000). It is a polyphagous noctuid pest of agricultural
crops across the United States that is gaining attention as a pest of field corn (Bohenblust et al.
2013). The moth s high fecundity, ability to lay between 500 to 3,000 eggs, polyphagous larval
feeding habits, high mobility during migration, and a facultative pupal diapause have led to the
success of this pest (Fitt 1989). Its preferred oviposition site is maize (Zea mays L.), specifically
fresh silks, but when they are not available H. zea readily oviposits on a wide range of host
plants (Johnson et al. 1975). During the reproductive stages, the female corn earworm adults are
attracted to kairomones produced by corn during the silk production stage (Johnson et al. 1975).
Corn is most attractive to corn earworm adults during the silking stage (Johnson et al. 1975).
Ovipostion generally occurs on the leaf hairs and the silks (Lingren et al. 1982). This process
occurs during the reproductive stage in corn and may range from several day to several weeks.
Due to the high value of sweet corn, multiple insecticide applications (12 to 40 insecticide
applications) for corn earworm are economically viable. However, the value of field corn is
considerably lower (Rector et al. 2002).

Analysis Of Hatred By Kristallnacht
We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive
is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of
us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. By helping one you can make a
huge difference, but you not helping someone that is going through something like bullying, is also
making a huge difference. Your letting the problem go on longer, the only way to be against it is to
stand with others that are going through a similar situation. Hatred is an emotion that begins with
prejudice and ends with bullying, vandalism, racism,or anti semitism. Without hatred in this world,
we can have equality. Hatred is everywhere we go but the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I don t know anyone personally who has been bullied but by all the stories that i have heard i
believe have a good amount of information on how it can hurt that person being victimized. There
are many things that i learned about bullying and what it can do to someone or people around
them. The main thing i learned about bullying is that your not the problem its the bully that is
going through something and takes it out on someone else. Another thing is that by you
bullying on someone else you can make that person hard to go to places where they know you
are going be present at, just to avoid you (for example school). Another reason is that you can
cause so much pain to the victim and their family. Lastly if you take the bullying to extreme
levels you can cause that person to take their live and cause the family and friends pain. If you
are caught bullying someone else you can be arrested. These are things that i learned about
bullying. By me learning all of this about bullying it makes me think on how i would never have
the guts to bully someone because you don t know what they are going through already and you
re just adding to it. Knowing you could be the reason that someone takes their life or know you
could be the one to cause a family pain would drive me crazy. I know that no parent wants to go
through something like that because i know my parents or any other parent would want to know
that there child

Examples Of Rivalry In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Have you ever had a controversial conflict or rivalry with another person? If so, the end of that
conflict or rivalry probably does not have a clear definite winner; however, In the novel One
Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken Kesey, two main characters Nurse Ratched and Randle
Patrick McMurphy, had an intensive rivalry with each other, but there was a clear winner in that:
McMurphy has won. McMurphy was ultimately the victor in his long rivalry with McMurphy
because of the support of his followers the patients, the patients were able to escape from evil

Nurse once they passed away by not having to deal with her any longer. McMurphy says Jesus, I

you haven t got the guts just to walk out? What do you think you are for Christ sake, crazy or
something? Well, you re not! You re not! You re no crazier than the average asshole out walking
around on the streets. this shows his courage and willingness to take leadership to decide what he
thinks is best for all the patients and that is freedom. Furthermore, the patients were able to follow
upon McMurphy s goal to escape from the Nurse and made him and the patients winners over the
Nurse because they got what they were looking for which is freedom. Finally, McMurphy s long
term goal was met while Nurse Ratched s long term goal failed to meet her expectations. For
comparison, McMurphy s goal since getting into the hospital was to ensure every patient got their
share and freedom including him because he believes they were all capable of integrating back
into society; Nurse Ratched s goal was to isolate McMurphy and the patients to prevent them from
achieving freedom back into society. In addition, she was

Inuit Vs Eating Raw Meat
Some people think that it wasn t ok for the Inuit to eat to all the parts of an animal or eating raw
meat because it was either disgusting or bad for them because it causes diseases. Well they are half
right. Actually eating raw meat can be good for people, because technically meat that is cooked is
harder to digest than raw meat. It was right and ok for the Inuit to eat raw meat.
The Inuit ate raw meat because they had very few natural resources and very few edible plants
to eat. When food is being cooked the longer the person has it being cooked the more nutrients
has been taken away. When food is cooked some of the vitamins like vitamin c and vitamin b,
have been lost or taken away during the process of it being cooked. Cooked food has

In Great Britain, the most common thing students to after obtaining GCSE is staying in school or
attending college for a two year A level course. A levels are most commonly studied between the
ages 16 18. Completing 3 or 4 A levels allows students to continue their educationby applying for
degree courses at universities and with that gaining higher education. There is a similar situation in
USA for students who finished secondary education by obtaining highschool diploma and
would like to attend college or university. To achieve that, USA students have to attend
undergraduate schools that offer either a two year degree also known as associate degree or a four
year degree called bachelors degree in a specific course of study called major. Students who finished
four year degree program and gained bachelors degree can continue their education in graduate
schools. There they can pursue one of two types of diplomas. The first one is called master s
degree and it usually takes two years of study after which you are considered to be highly
specialized in a specific field. The second type of diploma available for students who have
bachelors degree is PhD or a doctorate degree which usually takes 3 6 years to complete.
In Australia, students who want to continue their education can go either to TAFE (Technical and
Further Education) institutions or they can finish senior high school level studies (years 11 and 12
of education ) and obtain VCE ( Victorian

The factors that affect the motion of a falling object
Scientific Knowledge
When an object falls, many forces are acted upon it: gravity, friction, air resistance and, if in the
water, up thrust. When an object starts to fall, gravity over powers air resistance, however, as an
object starts to reach terminal velocity (its maximum speed) the opposite forces start to even out
until they are equal. Some people believe that if the forces are balanced then the object has stopped
moving, meanwhile they could also just be moving at a constant speed (its terminal velocity). All
free falling objects accelerate at the same speed no matter what their mass is (9.8m/sВІ).
There are two calculations you need for this investigation, no matter which ... Show more content

This is because the weight increases as the cube of the size of an object, but the air resistance
(drag) only increases as the square of the size, so the bigger the object is, the faster it will fall (or to
be more precise, it has a higher terminal velocity.)
The surface area can affect the motion of the falling object because it is has more air resistance
pushing against it. Because there is more air resistance pushing against a larger object, it will
fall so because it is making the downward force (gravity) weaker since there is now a larger force
counteracting that first force. An object with a larger surface area will fall slower (have a smaller
velocity) because it means there is a large area for air to come into contact with to produce that
counteracting force called air resistance.
Another factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the viscosity of the liquid that it is
falling through. Viscosity of liquid means how thick the liquid is. The higher the viscosity of the
liquid, the more the liquid resists the object which is falling through it. This means that it will take
a longer amount of time for the object to fall; meaning the velocity of the object will be very small.
A further factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the height from which the object is
dropped from. Obviously, if an object is dropped from a greater height, it will take longer to reach
the ground than the same object to reach the

John D Rockeffeller
What makes John D. Rockefeller an effective leader?
In his decades of business, one of the key characteristics that propelled Rockefeller to success
was his strong leadership abilities. It wasn t his status, nor his age that made Rockefeller a great
leader. Instead, it was his influence. People around him wanted to follow him; they were inspired
by him to do more than they ever thought they were capable of. It was his ability to create a strong
sense of teamwork and his own energy and passion that drove his workers and thus his company.
We can say he was a leader according to the leadership framework: Be, Know, Do:

In the fight against independents pipelines, armed men defended land bought by Rockefeller on the
planned way of the pipelines.
What type of leadership did he use?
It appears that, to lead his company, Rockefeller used one type of leadership to lead the workers
inside the company and for the commercial practices. In both case, it was an autocratic and
directive style of leadership. Even if Rockefeller seemed very close to his employees and knew how
to motivate and reward them, he did not trust them at all. He saw his relationship with them as
transactional, one of competing needs. However, he rarely made important decisions without
seeking debate and achieving a common mind among his key associates, foreshadowing the
consensus management
For his commercial practices, he used too an autocratic leadership. His most flagrant sin was the
ruthlessness with which he crushed competitors. For every competitor who became to be
dangerous for his business, Rockefeller used all the above practices to reduce them to nothing, or he
extended the olive branch to vanquished rivals, buying out their companies and drawing them into
his organization, making at least some of them richer than they could have been on their own. This
was not generosity but the mechanism whereby he expanded Standard Oil into a monopoly.

Diabetes and Beta
Diabetes
Beta carotene is an organic compound categorized as a terpenoid (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010).
Naturally, it is a predecessor of vitamin A, and found in several yellow fruits and vegetables. These
organic nutrients play a vital role in aiding vision, skin growth, and bone development. In addition
to these crucial roles, Beta carotene may be of significant help in regulating the blood sugar in
diabetic persons (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010). Human bodies regulate blood sugar levels with
the help of the hormone called insulin. In the absence or inadequate supply of this hormone, an

Beta carotene deficiency symptoms include nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and loss of senses in
some cases. These symptoms occur in the aftermath of excessive consumption of Beta carotene
supplements. Individuals experiencing Beta carotene symptoms must immediately see a physician
as a delay in this regard might result in death. Similarly, researchers have established that excessive
consumptions of Beta carotene may result in hypervitaminosis A. Under this condition, the main
symptom is skin discoloration among the affected individuals. Beta carotene toxicity cases are
rampant among smokers. Physicians advise active smokers to avoid these supplements as their
intake results in increase risk of lung cancer. Scientists have asserted that metabolites elements
present in the Beta carotene substances destroy retinoic acids that repress cancer growth in the
lungs (GutieМЃrrez, Gonzalez, 2010). In addition, metabolites catalyze proteins responsible for cell
division hence activates the growth of cancerous cells. It is for this reason that smokers are
prohibited from taking Beta carotene substances. Thus, Beta carotene supplements are best suited
for diabetic patients and vitamin A deficient individuals. Although available without prescription,
Physicians advise individuals to take Beta carotene under doctor s instructions to avoid instances of

Why Bank Robberies Have Increased Since 1994
I found an article that conducted a study to find why bank robberies have increased since 1994.
The focus of the study was focused to the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Office of the
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) where the use of statistics of bank robbers, interviewing
bank robbers, and determining what kind of security measures and security equipment was been
used, the gathering of the information was used to gain insight into bankrobbery(Carrol Loch,
(1997).
The study first focused on basic information of bank robberies, by using records that the FBI kept
when investing bank robbery scenes. This information was very helpful in determining the trends of
bank robbers; the investigators gave suggestions to institutions on how to create better security
measures. The investigator took all the FBI reports and placed them into a database for future
reference (Carrol Loch, (1997).
The investigator wanted to learn what motivated bank robbers so they interviewed offenders
either in federal or local correctional institutes. They have currently interviewed five offenders,
varying from robbers who passed notes to armed single robbers to a group or gang robberies.
They found that robbers would avoid certain banks do to security systems; investigator also
learned how offenders planned robberies. They found that all offenders interviewed would be
deterred from robbing a bank if there were uniformed security present. The offenders were aware

The Impact Of District Level Leadership And Student...
Research supports the impact of district level leadership. In their 2006 meta analysis (Walters
and Marzano, 2006) that reviewed studies that focused on the relationship between district level
leadership and student achievement Walters and Marzano found that the correlation between
the two as .24 with a 95 percent confidence interval (Walters and Marzano, 2006). That is, district
leadership matters. There is no such thing as a dysfunctional system, because every system is
perfectly aligned to achieve the results it produces. (Heifetz et.al., 2009) Educational
Leadership As a leader it is important to recognize that my organizations outcomes are perfectly
aligned with the system that is in place. To this end the leaders of the organization must
understand his/her philosophy as a leader. It has been my experience that I take me with me
where ever I go. This is an important realization as my role as the district superintendent because
of the responsibilities that are inherent to the role of superintendent. Due to this realization I
have done much work on understanding my beliefs as a leader. My Leadership Beliefs; My role
as the leaders is to set the vision and build a common belief system. In that role I also have the
responsibility to develop other leaders. I believe leadership is the responsibility one has to help

The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay
The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector
and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female.
Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male
characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in
choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of
these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female
characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s
message that war, aggression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to
feel himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that
he is aware of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision
and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is
immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and
aggression, her true motives are far more admirable.
Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an
impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on
the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When
her fears are realized and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are
you to [Astyanax], now you are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of
pride: How can one justify the preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one
fought for in the first place?
Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus
respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my
side . . . you with your gentle temper, all your gentle

How Clinics Can Be Integrated Into The Curriculum
Below is a description of how clinics can be integrated into the curriculum in a manner consistent
with the principles enunciated above. A. LAW CENTER I Law Center I would not begin until the
second semester of the first year. In the first semester, as noted above, students would complete
practical skills instruction in doctrinal courses and the cross curricular hypothetical, which would
give students a foundation of experience that could be refined in the first clinical course. For
example, in the first semester, students would perform an initial client interview, conduct book
and electronic research, and draft a predictive memorandum, client letter, and complaint. At the
beginning of the second semester of the first year, a select group of high performing students
would be chosen to participate in Law Center I, and assignments would be consistent with the
assignments completed in the first semester. Thus, in Law Center I, students would interview and
screen potential clients, and perform research. In doing so, Law Center I provides students with
the opportunity to transfer skills learned in the prior semester to a new legal context and on
behalf of a real client. This approach would be followed in each subsequent semester, with
students building upon the skills acquired in doctrinal and skills courses, and faculty gradually
increasing the complexity of work and level of responsibility. B. LAW CENTER II Law Center II,

Ontario Student Assistance Program Essay
Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) OSAP, a program designed to benefit Ontario
residents in need; they can apply to receive a Canada Ontario integrated student loan through the
Ontario Student Assistance Program or OSAP. The program was started back in the 1990 s, by the
Ontario government to enable those with lower incomes to receive loans, grants and scholarships
which allows them to have the ability to pay for their post secondary education.
To completely understand the relationship between OSAP and Social Welfare, we must first
examine what social welfare system is. A social welfare system is a program designed to
provide assistance to the needy individuals and families. There are numerous types and amounts
of welfare that are accessible to these individuals and families that vary depending on what
country, state or region you reside in. How do the two topics, OSAP and Social welfare relate?
Social welfare is a program that provides assistance to the needy; OSAP is that program to which
assistance is provided. The difference between the two is that money that comes from OSAP can
only be used post secondary school requirements like tuition fees, books and transportation
allowance, social welfare covers other living essentials like food and a place to live.
The targeted users for this program would be those entering into their post secondary education.
The Ontario Student Assistance Program is open to all Ontario residents; the program was designed

Intellect By Ralph Waldo Emerson Poem
Often regarded as the leader of the Transcendentalist literary movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson
believed that the individual must look inward to find truth and knowledge. He emphatically
stressed that one must practice self reliance: the ability to trust one s intuition and not conform
to societal standards. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone,
Emerson s poem Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind
obedience. The form of Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for
the reader to listen to his wise words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a
strict rhyme scheme and a very strong rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the
length of the poem produces an almost child like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t
simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of the riddles of our primary school days; we
remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we learned from these riddles. The rhythm and
meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each line contains seven syllables and begins
with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the page at the reader, causing us to
pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a sing song effect; the poem
beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like openness and implores the
reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery of Intellect is
challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six lines. This
abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to
interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise
the source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the
fountain of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just
crave direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often
society. We choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps

The Rich And The Rest Vs Grapes Of Wrath
The world revolves around money. Those small little coins and paper notes control the modern
society. People who have money in abundance or enough to live a comfortable life see money as
a positive object and as a source of success. However, people who are unfortunate enough to not
have a sufficient amount of money, see money as an unfair and cruel means to live by. This
wealth gap has been prominent throughout history and still is today. It plagues millions of people
around the world. Two great sources that discuss the unjust differences between social classes are
Steinbeck s 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath and Pazzanse s article called The Rich and the Rest .

In The Grapes of Wrath, Ruthie and Winfield are laying on their mattress in the Weedpatch
camp, when they both tell Ma Joad about being belittled by another kid. Winfield says that he
had socked the kid at the fact That kid says we was Okies , he said in an outraged voice. He says
he wasn t no Okie cause he come from Oregon. Says we was goddam Okies (Steinbeck 358 359).
Winfield and Ruthie s anger toward the other boy represents the anger of the poor toward the
rich. Since a large percentage of the upper class mock the poor, accusing them of being lazy and
not trying hard enough, the impecunious develop a sense of resentment toward the upper class. In
this case the upper class dehumanizes the poor by calling them derogatory terms such as Okie .
The kid who was from Oregon, a state which was unaffected by the economic problems resulting
from The Dust Bowl, thought that he was better than the Okies even though that is not true. The
wealth gap has a major hand in this sense of arrogance by the rich and the segregation resulting
from it. Moreover, this sense of egotism portrayed by the rich is also seen in The Rich and the Rest
through Pazzanses depiction of the difference of the upbringing of poor children compared to rich
children. Whilst discussing the effects of the amount of money has on children, Pazzanse makes a
connection between the area where children live to his/her potential wealth asserting, the longer
children are exposed to better environments, the better they do economically in the future.
Whichever city or state children grow up in also radically affects whether they ll move out of
poverty (Pazzanse). As established, ones area of living greatly affects their potential to get out of
poverty.

The Human Body Transports Oxygen And Nutrients Throughout...
The human body transports oxygen and nutrients throughout the body using the vascular system1.
When a person acquires an injury that causes him/her to bleed, the body has a natural defense to
repair it1; this is the basis of hemostasis, the formation and/or dissolution of blood clots2. Localizing
and amplifying coagulationproteases and their subsequent cofactor complexes maintain
hemostasis3. The inhibition and/or modification of these same coagulation proteases throughout
the rest of the body, away from the trauma site, also helps to maintain hemostasis3.
Coagulation, a cascade system abundant in fibrin and thrombin proteins that are vital to
hemostasis4, mainly occurs on the vascular surface because the rupture on the surface causes a
successive activation of trypsin like serine proteases which lead to the release of thrombin and clot
formation3. The coagulation system may be activated via the intrinsic pathway, where plasma
factor XII triggers coagulation to begin, or the extrinsic pathway, where thromboplastin released
from tissues stimulates plasma factor VII once each pathway activates plasma factor X, a common
pathway leads to the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin4 (this conversion is a function of which
thrombin is responsible for3). To prevent excessive bleeding (which occurs when there is a scarcity
of thrombin5) and/or unwanted blood clots (which occurs when there is a plethora of thrombin5),
coagulation must therefore be highly regulated3.
If hemostasis is

statement is also required, which if compelling enough will result in an invitation to be interviewed.
This is the most crucial and scary part of the application process and is designed to investigate the
student s suitability. There are myths surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views,
the admissions tutors state they do not set out to trick candidates with weird questions, but discuss
issues around the chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible minds
that are receptive to teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental stamina. Being

Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay
Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it
being used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function,
some aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience
throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children
right from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control
and maintain obediencein the classroom.
Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority,
and its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to
authority is necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it
quite often becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel,
Crimes of Power and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of
command. Often, higher authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the
scandal at Abu Ghraib. The American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish,
interrogate, and harm the inmates prior to interrogation. Yet, these soldiers were following the
commands of their higher authorities, that exactly being the United States of America. Obeying the
authority can sometimes be perilous, especially, when one s morals are disrupted. When you are

The Anzacs And The Development Of Nationalism In Australia...
The ANZACs were a significant influence in the development of nationalism in Australia during
World War One (WWI). Throughout WWI, Australian formed the fundamentals of the now
universally recognised Australian identity. The ANZACs played a crucial role in the establishment
of a mixture of both cultural and triumphal nationalism as Australias exposure to other cultures
during WWI saw them no longer recognised as an extension of Britain but an independent group of
competent men and women that could equal their Commonwealth forefathers in the war effort.
Thus, forming a distinct identity and sense of nationalism that s significance, decades after WWI,

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biometrics
There are many biometric techniques in existence today. Face recognition technology is one of
them which make use of computer software to determine the identity of the person. Today

India And The International Trade

Since gaining liberalization, India has been active in international trade, and is today one of the

Saudi Arabia Switzerland, Singapore and Germany.
As a shining, modern, and well developing country, India has been actively promoting trade

To date, the EU is India s largest trading partner, accounting for 20% of Indian trade. However
India accounts for only 1.8% of the EU s trade and attracts only 0.3% of European Foreign Direct
Investment, although still provides India s largest source for India (Bilateral Trade, n.d.).
Trade between the two has more than doubled from 25.6 billion euros ($36.7 billion) in 2000 to
55.6 billion euros in 2007, with further expansion to be seen (Bulls Eye, n.d.). According to a report
in 2010, India, at that time, was the eighth largest trading partner of the European Union, behind
China and Russia (India EU Relations, 2012).
Given the fact that India is in the process of facilitating the international trade with all over the
world. European and Asian countries seems to be the potential partners for trade exchange. At the
same time, several companies and organizations have been established in India over the last ten
years which have created more opportunities for both European and Indian companies to run their
business in the region. Furthermore, Germany trading policy also brings a good opportunity to
Indian economy and for the Indian export trading companies. As the trade relations between these
two countries are increasing, it will helpful to the Indian economy and its overall development and
growth. India shares their experiences and also can learn from Germany and become expertise in

Characters Of Spider Man
Three Fictional Characters Essay
You need someone who goes out of their way to make it obvious that they want you in your life
such as family, friend and the person that you really love. There are many ways that I could be
able to describe myself like with different kind of characters. Let me tell you the three main
characters that I can really relate to and how their characteristics are related to me. The three
fictional characters that most represent my personality are Spider Man from the movie Spider man
for his helping out and caring for people, King Kong from the movie King Kong for his strength
and defense of his own territory and family, and Jumba from Lilo and Stitch for his loving nature
and protection of his family from enemies.
Even though Spider Man has a costume and can let out a web to climb or to get to places in the
Spider Man movie, that doesn t mean that we don t have similarities; we both like helping
people and taking care of them as well. When the audience is first introduced to Spider Man, he
is visiting a museum where there is a different kind of species because he is a photographer from
the school that he attended. While trying to take a picture, he notices that there is a spider
missing from the box, but until the spider was crawling down and landing on to Peter s hand, he
got bitten by it. Spider Man s classmates are not kind to him, just because of the way that he is,
which causes him to try to get along with other people who are nicer to him.

Couples Therapy for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
As many as one in three females have experienced sexual abuse by the age of 18 (Russell, 1986).
Many survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) experience negative psychological symptoms
(Browne Finkelhor, 1986; Kendall Tackett, Williams, L. M., Finkelhor, 1993). These women may
later in life engage in relationships. The negative impact of sexual abuse could result in challenges
faced by the relationship due to shame and difficulty with trust (Kochka Carolan, 2002; MacIntosh
Johnson, 2008). CSA may also result in sexual challenges for the couple (Kochka Carolan, 2002).
Research has found that couples therapy can be of significance to the healing of the CSA survivor
as well as functioning and growth in the relationship (Kochka ... Show more content on

The researchers analyzed the results with cross tabulation, chi square statistics, analysis of variance,
and multiple regression. Most of the subjects were able to respond to sexual stimulation and reach
orgasm but did not enjoy it. The women who perceived themselves to be adjusted to their abuse still
had some sexual dysfunction.
Feinauer suggested several implications for practice from this study. She proposed that therapists
who work with couples experiencing difficulty with intimacy of both sexual and emotional nature
should consider sexual abuse history of the partners involved because without handling the sexual
abuse related issues , the intervention of therapy will not be very effective. She stated that if the
CSA survivor continued to believe and act out the idea that they have to perform sexually in order
to get love, acceptance, security, then they cannot participate in sexually intimate relationships.
Feinauer referenced other literature and previous studies of her own to add to the results and
concluded that women who have been sexually abused should: deal with their unresolved anger
and betrayal around the abuse; accept that they are not at fault for the abuse; externalize the fault
to the perpetrator so they can discontinue to have worry and fear of all men; and see their partner
as separate from the abuser so they can have an easier time in solving their sexual problems. She
ends on the statement that if survivors of sexual abuse

Charles Babbage And His Engines
The author, Wilkes, of this journal article reviews and criticizes Charles Babbage and his engines.
The title of the journal questions the current position Charles Babbage is known for, the father of
computing. Wilkes considers Babbage a great uncle of computing science instead of the father and
gives further details as in to why. The author doesn t only criticize Babbage s work but also
informs the readers on how they operate and what their function is. According to the text, Babbage
s first difference enginewas not a very good idea (Wilkes 15). The difference engine only
functioned to do two different tasks which are to compute and tabulate polynomials. This basically
states that the difference engine could compute mathematical tables, but further reading attacks this
claim. In order for the difference engine to be able to compute, Babbage had to do a great amount
of paper and pencil computation in order to calculate the coefficients to be set on the engine
(Wilkes 15). As a result, one can criticize that the difference engine doesn t exactly work out
mathematical tables on its own without the help of the conductor. One could argue that, because of
the time period, the difference computerwasn t made to reduce human labor but to actually
mechanize computations. The author also elaborates onto the rough years Babbage had on his
creations towards his engine. During the year 1832, Babbage had a dispute with his engineer and
production of the engine hindered (Wilkes

Strategies for Improving Student’s Content Area Reading to...
Before a student can even begin to understand how to read expository content within a text book,
they must first begin to read meaningfully and they reasons behind why they read. Reading is not
just for entertainment, it is also used to acquire information. Reading any form of text opens its
audience, the reader, to the world without them having to buy a plane ticket or putting them in
dangerous situations to gain firsthand experience (content within storybooks or novels). Reading
opens one s cognitive eye . Once a tolerance for reading is achieved, students can gather information
from every text that they read, whether fact or fiction. Reading in content area is basically about
students interacting with text before, during, and after... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, this strategy could b used to teach a history or literature class, where students are put
into groups, assigned a character or historical figure, and using text and other resources, research
the person they are demonstrating and make direct quotes from what they have done or said. They
present it to their fellow classmates; there each student takes an active role in gathering information
to be displayed. Introducing conflicting thought: Teacher presents students with a scenario that
goes contrary to what they have previously learnt, ask them to research the following to discredit
either what was learnt or what was now presented to them. For example, this strategy could be
used in Science, where the teacher states the sky is not blue, or that colours that we see are not
their actual colours, this could be done while teaching the topic of light. Introducing such scenarios
causes disequilibrium and students seek the need (through research) to discredit it. Project based
assessment: here students are given topics to review and present. The teacher provides a hotlist (a
list of resource books) where they are to gather information and organize it to present orally or
otherwise. This strategy could be used in teaching Studies Studies under any scheme of work, for
instance, in teaching about the

Michelangelo Visual Description
I stood there standing on the fresh, cut wooden boards thinking of what the picture would look
like on the canvas. With a seemingly magnificent idea, I picked the gold handled paint brush off
of the stool, grabbed the pallet, and dipped the smooth bristles of the paintbrush into the thick
orange pigment on the palate and made my first stroke of paint on the once blank canvas. Upon
creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical
picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head. In my mind, I could see two
philosophers in the center of the paintingin the courtyard of an ancient Greek school with geniuses
of all ages surrounding them. I wondered what Michelangelo would... Show more content on

together now even though it had only been ten minutes since I started painting. I could tell in
Michelangelo s eyes that he was starting to get furious. He probably thought I walked over there to

the events leading up to the Revolutionary War. Starting with, the Navigation Act. The Navigation

They opened fire which then killed a French general. This started the French and Indian War. In
the French and Indian War the British will defeat the French, Indians, and the Spanish. The
French then signed the Treaty of Paris 1763 to end the war. This treaty allowed the colonist to
settle west of the Appalachian Moutains. The Native Americans were not happy, so the chief
started a rebellion known as Chief Pontiac s Rebellion. Chief Pontiac was the chief of a group of
Native Americans that fought on the French side. When the French signed the Treaty of Paris
1763 it allowed the British colonist to settle west of the Appalachian Moutains into Native
American land. They didn t like this so they kept fighting with the British. The British could not
keep up the fighting, so they created many peace treaties until Chief Pontiac and British finally
agreed with one. They finally created the Proclamation of 1763 to keep the British off their land.
This ended his rebellion. After the war the British didn t have a lot of money left. Therefore, they
created and passed the Sugar act. This act put taxes on sugar, certain wines, coffee, pimiento,
cambric, and printed calico. The colonist didn t want to pay these taxes because they believed that
it wasn t their fault, so they shouldn t have to pay for it. The thing that made them really mad was
the fact that they were being taxed without a voice in

particular language, country, or age . Literature comes in different variations, languages, and from

As the play progresses, Jhana s father is slowly introduced as King; he is an Elvis impersonator
and is constantly touring so he is rarely ever home with Jhana or Maddie. With the constant
abandonment of her husband, Maddie is given the very strenuous task of having to take care of
her 18 year old mentally handicapped daughter and having to deal with Bill who eventually falls
in love with her. Having to deal with all this affects Maddie and there are points in the play
where she snaps at Jhana for the stuff she does. We see Maddie has gotten used to all the stuff
Jhana does that when King returns home and says Jhana s real weird, eh she responds by saying
what else is new (Macleod 41) showing how she has gotten used to Jhana s antics, yet still gets
agitated by what Jhana does. Bill falls in love with Maddie and acts as a father figure to Jhana
while her father is touring in North America. Maddie is still in love with King but every time he
leaves it affects Maddie in a very negative way. King chooses his job over his familythus forcing
Maddie into a state of sadness and this is evident when she says Hold on to my perfect little girl.
(holding Jhana) You were so warm. To hell with that bed of mine that had suddenly become so big
and icy. I ve got Jhana. (Macleod 58). Maddie realizes how true of a friend Bill has become that by

Rapoport Student No: 0834172 Word Count: 1500 1 CILM Book Review 0834172 Two years after Enron filed for bankruptcy in 2001, Nancy b. Rapoport wrote this essay expressing her unique perspective on the real cause of Enron s demise. This essay catches the reader s attention instantly, because unlike abundant other articles written on the biggest corporate scandal in American history, the author here rejects Jeff Skilling s (former president of Enron) argument1 of what brought about Enron s downfall. She instead uses another metaphor, arguing that Enron s downfall was more like Titanic s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would go a step further to say that it seems like the author has taken the metaphors a bit too seriously and would agree with Mark s comment in Lawyers in the Perfect Storm3 that her insistence on comparison of the Enron scandal to the tragicomedy of human errors in the sinking of the Titanic underestimates the importance of the systemic failures that allowed the malign leadership of Enron to produce such an enormous disaster. Nevertheless, she develops her further argument well as she explores the inextricable link between Character and Leadership. She elaborates on the inevitable failure of character in Enron leaders to resist illegal deals when the supervisors of those leaders were also engaging in side deals (pg 209). Her close attention to the underlying conflict of human traits and situations, aggravated by the magnitude of profits offered by the Enron culture justifies her statement, why it must have taken significant strength of character to resist getting on that gravy train (pg 210). 3 Sergeant, M, .2003. • 6. Ralph Waldo Emerson s Ideology Of Self Identity In the essay, Self Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson s ideology of self identity is impractical today because the media has hindered society from developing our true identities. The use of social media is ruining this generation s real life social skills. According to Social Media Today, an online community for professionals, The amount of time people spend on social media is constantly increasing. Teens now spend up to nine hours a day on social platforms, while 30% of all time spent online is now allocated to social media interaction. Texting or online communications does not allow people to truly express themselves for who they truly are. There is a loss of social and personal development communicating through social media. For instance, people online are unable to use body language, tone, voice and facial expressions through a text. An article on The Telegraph, pointed out that One in four people spend more time socialising online, using sites such as Facebook, than they do in person, according to research. The study also found that even when there is an opportunity to see people face to face, on weekends for example, up to 11% of adults still prefer to stay at home and communicate on their devices instead. (USA Today). The problem with socialising online is that affects a person s ability to communicate properly in face to face interactions. The person will feel a sense of social anxiety and not project their voice loud enough for their audience to hear them. For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Causes Of Teen Pregnancy Haden Womble Mrs. Gallos English 3 21 November 2017 Teen Pregnancy Teen pregnancy is not a subject to take lightly. Being in high school, students are held to high standards. They are in fact young adults who are trying to build their success to go onto the next step in life, but just one mistake can ruin everything. Having unprotected sex is the leading cause to teenagers getting pregnant. Oral contraceptives are recommended if girls are sexually active, but being on birth control does not give them one hundred percent accuracy of not becoming pregnant. A problem to teen pregnancies can be unprotected sex, as said in the first paragraph, that is the number one cause to getting pregnant. When girls and boys become teenagers, their bodies start to develop all of these hormones, and that is when people start taking the route of having sex. Having sex can be a huge roller coaster, because not only are they giving themselves away to their partner, they are putting their own life at risk. Almost 1,700 teen girls get pregnant every single day (Teen Vogue). That is seventy girls every hour. Not only can becoming pregnant be hard for the mother, but for the child too. The normal signs that the teen may be pregnant can be that she misses her period or that she gets morning sickness. • 8. The Destruction of the Corn Earworm INTRODUCTION Corn earworm, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) (formerly Heliothis zea) (Lepidoptera: Moctuidae), is one of the most damaging insect crop pest in North America and causes millions of dollars of economic damage each year (Capinera 2000). It is a polyphagous noctuid pest of agricultural crops across the United States that is gaining attention as a pest of field corn (Bohenblust et al. 2013). The moth s high fecundity, ability to lay between 500 to 3,000 eggs, polyphagous larval feeding habits, high mobility during migration, and a facultative pupal diapause have led to the success of this pest (Fitt 1989). Its preferred oviposition site is maize (Zea mays L.), specifically fresh silks, but when they are not available H. zea readily oviposits on a wide range of host plants (Johnson et al. 1975). During the reproductive stages, the female corn earworm adults are attracted to kairomones produced by corn during the silk production stage (Johnson et al. 1975). Corn is most attractive to corn earworm adults during the silking stage (Johnson et al. 1975). Ovipostion generally occurs on the leaf hairs and the silks (Lingren et al. 1982). This process occurs during the reproductive stage in corn and may range from several day to several weeks. Due to the high value of sweet corn, multiple insecticide applications (12 to 40 insecticide applications) for corn earworm are economically viable. However, the value of field corn is considerably lower (Rector et al. 2002). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Analysis Of Hatred By Kristallnacht We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. By helping one you can make a huge difference, but you not helping someone that is going through something like bullying, is also making a huge difference. Your letting the problem go on longer, the only way to be against it is to stand with others that are going through a similar situation. There are many things that i learned about bullying and what it can do to someone or people around them. The main thing i learned about bullying is that your not the problem its the bully that is going through something and takes it out on someone else. Another thing is that by you bullying on someone else you can make that person hard to go to places where they know you are going be present at, just to avoid you (for example school). Another reason is that you can cause so much pain to the victim and their family. Lastly if you take the bullying to extreme levels you can cause that person to take their live and cause the family and friends pain. If you are caught bullying someone else you can be arrested. These are things that i learned about bullying. By me learning all of this about bullying it makes me think on how i would never have the guts to bully someone because you don t know what they are going through already and you re just adding to it. There is a similar situation in USA for students who finished secondary education by obtaining highschool diploma and would like to attend college or university. To achieve that, USA students have to attend undergraduate schools that offer either a two year degree also known as associate degree or a four year degree called bachelors degree in a specific course of study called major. Students who finished four year degree program and gained bachelors degree can continue their education in graduate schools. There they can pursue one of two types of diplomas. Despite a decade of revisions in rules and regulations (variously established by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Accounting Principles Board, and Financial Accounting Standards Board), public accounting firms were still perceived by many on Capitol Hill as biased in favor of their clients, incapable of or unwilling to police themselves, and at times participants in coverups of client affairs. • 15. Essay on Physics coursework The factors that affect the motion of a falling object Scientific Knowledge When an object falls, many forces are acted upon it: gravity, friction, air resistance and, if in the water, up thrust. When an object starts to fall, gravity over powers air resistance, however, as an object starts to reach terminal velocity (its maximum speed) the opposite forces start to even out until they are equal. Some people believe that if the forces are balanced then the object has stopped moving, meanwhile they could also just be moving at a constant speed (its terminal velocity). All free falling objects accelerate at the same speed no matter what their mass is (9.8m/sВІ). There are two calculations you need for this investigation, no matter which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the weight increases as the cube of the size of an object, but the air resistance (drag) only increases as the square of the size, so the bigger the object is, the faster it will fall (or to be more precise, it has a higher terminal velocity.) The surface area can affect the motion of the falling object because it is has more air resistance pushing against it. Because there is more air resistance pushing against a larger object, it will fall so because it is making the downward force (gravity) weaker since there is now a larger force counteracting that first force. An object with a larger surface area will fall slower (have a smaller velocity) because it means there is a large area for air to come into contact with to produce that counteracting force called air resistance. Another factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the viscosity of the liquid that it is falling through. Viscosity of liquid means how thick the liquid is. The higher the viscosity of the liquid, the more the liquid resists the object which is falling through it. This means that it will take a longer amount of time for the object to fall; meaning the velocity of the object will be very small. A further factor that can affect the motion of a falling object is the height from which the object is dropped from. Obviously, if an object is dropped from a greater height, it will take longer to reach the ground than the same object to reach the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his decades of business, one of the key characteristics that propelled Rockefeller to success was his strong leadership abilities. It wasn t his status, nor his age that made Rockefeller a great leader. Instead, it was his influence. People around him wanted to follow him; they were inspired by him to do more than they ever thought they were capable of. It was his ability to create a strong sense of teamwork and his own energy and passion that drove his workers and thus his company. What type of leadership did he use? It appears that, to lead his company, Rockefeller used one type of leadership to lead the workers inside the company and for the commercial practices. In both case, it was an autocratic and directive style of leadership. Even if Rockefeller seemed very close to his employees and knew how to motivate and reward them, he did not trust them at all. He saw his relationship with them as transactional, one of competing needs. However, he rarely made important decisions without seeking debate and achieving a common mind among his key associates, foreshadowing the consensus management For his commercial practices, he used too an autocratic leadership. His most flagrant sin was the ruthlessness with which he crushed competitors. For every competitor who became to be dangerous for his business, Rockefeller used all the above practices to reduce them to nothing, or he extended the olive branch to vanquished rivals, buying out their companies and drawing them into his organization, making at least some of them richer than they could have been on their own. This was not generosity but the mechanism whereby he expanded Standard Oil into a monopoly. • 27. The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female. Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s message that war, aggression, ... Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and aggression, her true motives are far more admirable. Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. LAW CENTER I Law Center I would not begin until the second semester of the first year. In the first semester, as noted above, students would complete practical skills instruction in doctrinal courses and the cross curricular hypothetical, which would give students a foundation of experience that could be refined in the first clinical course. For example, in the first semester, students would perform an initial client interview, conduct book and electronic research, and draft a predictive memorandum, client letter, and complaint. At the beginning of the second semester of the first year, a select group of high performing students would be chosen to participate in Law Center I, and assignments would be consistent with the assignments completed in the first semester. Thus, in Law Center I, students would interview and screen potential clients, and perform research. In doing so, Law Center I provides students with the opportunity to transfer skills learned in the prior semester to a new legal context and on behalf of a real client. • 30. Intellect By Ralph Waldo Emerson Poem Often regarded as the leader of the Transcendentalist literary movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson believed that the individual must look inward to find truth and knowledge. He emphatically stressed that one must practice self reliance: the ability to trust one s intuition and not conform to societal standards. Through the use of strict form, powerful imagery, and a wise tone, Emerson s poem Intellect urges us to stay true to ourselves by refusing the practice of blind obedience. The form of Intellect is comprised of just six lines which suggests a call to action for the reader to listen to his wise words. The short form produces a riddle like tone; it follows a strict rhyme scheme and a very strong rhythm. The lines are end rhymed this, coupled with the length of the poem produces an almost child like simplicity. The morals hidden in Intellect aren t simple per se, nevertheless we are reminded of the riddles of our primary school days; we remember the catchy rhythm and traditional morals we learned from these riddles. The rhythm and meter are also vital aspects of this poem s structure: each line contains seven syllables and begins with a stressed syllable. This didactic rhythm jumps out of the page at the reader, causing us to pay attention. The stressed and unstressed syllable pattern produces a sing song effect; the poem beckons us to listen to the wise counsel of Emerson with a child like openness and implores the reader to find the moral that Emerson is trying to get across. The imagery of Intellect is challenging: the poem features a fountain, a wave, the shore, and wings all in just six lines. This abstract imagery allows us to tap into our own intellect and it leaves room for the reader to interpret its meaning. Let us contemplate the fountain first. A fountain is often used to symbolise the source for something desirable: whether it be a drinking fountain, a fountain of youth, or the fountain of life we come across in Christian doctrine. Often times we crave rules; or we might just crave direction or someone to tell us what to do. Unfortunately, the source of these rules is often society. We choose to listen to the voice of society for direction, instead of turning inward. Perhaps by writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, people who are unfortunate enough to not have a sufficient amount of money, see money as an unfair and cruel means to live by. This wealth gap has been prominent throughout history and still is today. It plagues millions of people around the world. Says we was goddam Okies (Steinbeck 358 359). Winfield and Ruthie s anger toward the other boy represents the anger of the poor toward the rich. Since a large percentage of the upper class mock the poor, accusing them of being lazy and not trying hard enough, the impecunious develop a sense of resentment toward the upper class. In this case the upper class dehumanizes the poor by calling them derogatory terms such as Okie . The kid who was from Oregon, a state which was unaffected by the economic problems resulting from The Dust Bowl, thought that he was better than the Okies even though that is not true. The wealth gap has a major hand in this sense of arrogance by the rich and the segregation resulting from it. Moreover, this sense of egotism portrayed by the rich is also seen in The Rich and the Rest through Pazzanses depiction of the difference of the upbringing of poor children compared to rich children. Whilst discussing the effects of the amount of money has on children, Pazzanse makes a connection between the area where children live to his/her potential wealth asserting, the longer children are exposed to better environments, the better they do economically in the future. Whichever city or state children grow up in also radically affects whether they ll move out of poverty (Pazzanse). • 34. The Human Body Transports Oxygen And Nutrients Throughout... The human body transports oxygen and nutrients throughout the body using the vascular system1. When a person acquires an injury that causes him/her to bleed, the body has a natural defense to repair it1; this is the basis of hemostasis, the formation and/or dissolution of blood clots2. Localizing and amplifying coagulationproteases and their subsequent cofactor complexes maintain hemostasis3. The inhibition and/or modification of these same coagulation proteases throughout the rest of the body, away from the trauma site, also helps to maintain hemostasis3. Coagulation, a cascade system abundant in fibrin and thrombin proteins that are vital to hemostasis4, mainly occurs on the vascular surface because the rupture on the surface causes a successive activation of trypsin like serine proteases which lead to the release of thrombin and clot formation3. The coagulation system may be activated via the intrinsic pathway, where plasma factor XII triggers coagulation to begin, or the extrinsic pathway, where thromboplastin released from tissues stimulates plasma factor VII once each pathway activates plasma factor X, a common pathway leads to the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin4 (this conversion is a function of which thrombin is responsible for3). To prevent excessive bleeding (which occurs when there is a scarcity of thrombin5) and/or unwanted blood clots (which occurs when there is a plethora of thrombin5), coagulation must therefore be highly regulated3. • 36. Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it being used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function, some aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children right from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control and maintain obediencein the classroom. Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority, and its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to authority is necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it quite often becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel, Crimes of Power and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of command. Often, higher authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the scandal at Abu Ghraib. The American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish, interrogate, and harm the inmates prior to interrogation. • 40. Reflection On Final Exam Final Exam Essay The reflection quote at the beginning of the exam instructions is an interesting thought. I see myself reflecting more on the life aspects of this quote versus the complexities of how it affects my writing abilities. I entered into this course with few expectations of my writing abilities after my last composition course. There are still more flaws in my writingabilities than perfections. However, the confidence has been built to be able to complete writing assignments for a future employer. My process in writing an essay, report, or proposal has remained the same from the first composition course to this technical course. I can write adequately but do still struggle with different aspects of the composition process. My expectations starting this class in May were extremely low after the struggles with the first composition course I completed. My goal was to do my best and just try to maintain a passing grade. However, this course was different, there was a practicality involved that I crave to do my best work. It was interesting to put together the financial plans of a non existent company that in realty will never come to pass. The TV show Shark Tank makes these presentations seem easy. But it does not show the many hours the owners must put in to make their presentations perfect. The PowerPoint presentation assignment took me several hours and retakes to complete. Face recognition technology is one of them which make use of computer software to determine the identity of the person. Today conservative methods of identification like possession of certain type of identity cards, use of passwords etc. are not at all reliable for identity purposes where security is a critical factor. • 46. Couples Therapy for Adult Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse As many as one in three females have experienced sexual abuse by the age of 18 (Russell, 1986). Many survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) experience negative psychological symptoms (Browne Finkelhor, 1986; Kendall Tackett, Williams, L. M., Finkelhor, 1993). These women may later in life engage in relationships. The negative impact of sexual abuse could result in challenges faced by the relationship due to shame and difficulty with trust (Kochka Carolan, 2002; MacIntosh Johnson, 2008). CSA may also result in sexual challenges for the couple (Kochka Carolan, 2002). Most of the subjects were able to respond to sexual stimulation and reach orgasm but did not enjoy it. The women who perceived themselves to be adjusted to their abuse still had some sexual dysfunction. Feinauer suggested several implications for practice from this study. She proposed that therapists who work with couples experiencing difficulty with intimacy of both sexual and emotional nature should consider sexual abuse history of the partners involved because without handling the sexual abuse related issues , the intervention of therapy will not be very effective. She stated that if the CSA survivor continued to believe and act out the idea that they have to perform sexually in order to get love, acceptance, security, then they cannot participate in sexually intimate relationships. Feinauer referenced other literature and previous studies of her own to add to the results and concluded that women who have been sexually abused should: deal with their unresolved anger and betrayal around the abuse; accept that they are not at fault for the abuse; externalize the fault to the perpetrator so they can discontinue to have worry and fear of all men; and see their partner as separate from the abuser so they can have an easier time in solving their sexual problems. • 47. Charles Babbage And His Engines The author, Wilkes, of this journal article reviews and criticizes Charles Babbage and his engines. The title of the journal questions the current position Charles Babbage is known for, the father of computing. Wilkes considers Babbage a great uncle of computing science instead of the father and gives further details as in to why. The author doesn t only criticize Babbage s work but also informs the readers on how they operate and what their function is. According to the text, Babbage s first difference enginewas not a very good idea (Wilkes 15). The difference engine only functioned to do two different tasks which are to compute and tabulate polynomials. This basically states that the difference engine could compute mathematical tables, but further reading attacks this claim. In order for the difference engine to be able to compute, Babbage had to do a great amount of paper and pencil computation in order to calculate the coefficients to be set on the engine (Wilkes 15). As a result, one can criticize that the difference engine doesn t exactly work out mathematical tables on its own without the help of the conductor. One could argue that, because of the time period, the difference computerwasn t made to reduce human labor but to actually mechanize computations. The author also elaborates onto the rough years Babbage had on his creations towards his engine. During the year 1832, Babbage had a dispute with his engineer and production of the engine hindered (Wilkes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introducing conflicting thought: Teacher presents students with a scenario that goes contrary to what they have previously learnt, ask them to research the following to discredit either what was learnt or what was now presented to them. For example, this strategy could be used in Science, where the teacher states the sky is not blue, or that colours that we see are not their actual colours, this could be done while teaching the topic of light. Introducing such scenarios causes disequilibrium and students seek the need (through research) to discredit it. Project based assessment: here students are given topics to review and present. Upon creating that first stroke, I smelt the unique, fresh paint on the canvas waiting to become a physical picture. This is going to be a good one, I thought in my head.
