In this presentation from Total Telecom's Carriers World Conference in 2014 I discussed the opportunities that cloud computing presents for Telecommunications Carriers.
Chanakya's theory of motivation from the Arthashastra outlines 4 methods:
1. Sama (counseling) - Advising and manipulating through discussion to develop interest and find solutions.
2. Dama (offering gifts) - Rewarding employees with money or other incentives to motivate work.
3. Danda (punishments) - Punishing through warnings, notices, or penalties like suspension to maintain discipline.
4. Bheda (creating a split) - Dividing or exploiting secrets as a last resort when other methods don't work, though it is not encouraged.
This document discusses the importance of self-management for effective leadership and management of others. It emphasizes that to manage others, one must first manage the self by controlling desires, maintaining balance when facing successes and failures, and having perfect control over attachment, fear, and anger. It also stresses developing an appropriate mental attitude, doing one's work with full concentration without anxiety over results, and maintaining equanimity towards all situations.
The document discusses the Vedas, which are ancient Hindu scriptures composed in Sanskrit between 1500-1000 BCE that provide guidance on righteous living. The Vedas include hymns, prayers, and formulas and are divided into four types: Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharva. Each Veda contains Brahmanas (rituals), Aranyakas (philosophical discussions), and Upanishads (inner meanings). The Rig Veda contains 1028 hymns praising deities, the Yajur Veda describes rituals and ceremonies, the Sama Veda contains melodies from the Rig Veda, and the Atharva Veda addresses daily problems and rituals.

The Manu Smriti is a Hindu text that provides rules and guidelines for individuals in different stages of life and classes of society. It lays out rules for students, householders, retired persons, and those who have renounced material attachments. It also provides rules that kings should follow. When social or political issues arose, assemblies of learned sages would make rulings based on the Manu Smriti, and these verdicts were respected by both rulers and common people. Those who violated the rules of the Manu Smriti would be punished by boycotting and severing social relations with them.

It also discusses implied conditions and warranties imposed by law, such as title, description, fitness for purpose, and merchantability. The document provides examples to illustrate these legal concepts.
Business ethics are important for companies to operate responsibly and survive long-term. They exist to balance personal and organizational interests with societal needs by considering factors like religion, culture, and law. Religions each provide a different ethical code, while culture encourages prioritizing shared organizational values over individual goals. Laws also establish rules that businesses must follow to avoid issues like tax evasion, pollution, and unsafe products.
The four Purusharthas are the main goals or aims of human life according to Hindu philosophy: Dharma (righteous living), Artha (wealth), Kama (pleasure), and Moksha (liberation). Dharma should guide pursuit of Artha and Kama to ensure they don't obstruct the ultimate goal of Moksha. While Artha and Kama are valid aims, especially for householders, one should use them sparingly and in line with Dharma to help reach Moksha. The document explores each Purushartha in detail and how focusing on Dharma and Moksha should be the singular overarching aim of life according to Hindu traditions.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on BlockchainClaudio Di Ciccio
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Amazon sponsored a study by IDC where they interviewed a group of our customers to get a sense of the results they get from using AWS. The results were quite favorable, with the aggregate numbers showing significant cost savings, combined with better results in terms of reduced downtime. We’re proud to deliver both benefits simultaneously- that we don’t sacrifice quality to reduce costs, and are most proud that our customers can demonstrate the benefits. We encourage you to read this full report to get the full details- it’s available on our website.

We see our customers do amazing things when they reduce the cost of experimentation- it moves IT from being a roadblock, where each idea costs lots of money and takes lots of time, to being an enabler where you can launch a speculative project quickly and cheaply. It allows firms to take more chances on ideas, and gives them a shot at winning big, as opposed to being scared to even try.
And these are some of the key products that support this vision of hybrid cloud
