Social Acceptance In College Essay
College Fraternities and Sororities The High Cost of Social Acceptance College students who choose
to join fraternities or sororities do so because of their need for social acceptance. I am personally
against fraternities and sororities. I feel that it is money spent for the purpose of buying friends. There
are many ways to meet interesting people other than devoting all of your time and money to a club in
order to do so. Perhaps the people who join these groups have low self esteem, social anxiety, or feel
that the best way to make friends in college is to pay for them. I find this issue to be interesting
because there are many Greek organizations on campus that are constantly advertising and promoting
themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non members chose not to join because of numerous reasons. Out of twelve non members, seven
agreed that they would not join due to a lack of money, and six out of those seven said they still would
not join even if they had the funds. Nine of the twelve felt that they would not have enough time to
devote themselves to a fraternity or sorority. What I found to be the most interesting was that ten felt
that the reason people join these organizations are just paying for friendship. The only reason these
non members agreed that it would be a beneficial to join a fraternity or sorority would be for academic
achievements, such as the Honors fraternity, or one that pertained to your major. Twelve members of
fraternities or sororities were also surveyed. Eleven stated that they joined so they can meet new
people and make friends. Only five agreed that they joined so they could help the community. Eight of
the ten felt they needed to join so they would have a place to party and also meet girls. Three felt that
being a member taught you leadership skills. Two joined because they thought it would look good on a
resume. My second method of research was a personal interview. Here, I was able to ask more
questions than on a random survey in the Oak Grove. On the issue of students not having time to
devote themselves to one of the organizations, one non member commented, I know that as a student I
am way too busy with school

Mercury Athletic
MERCURY ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR
Problem statement:
West Coast Fashions, Inc a large business of men s and women s apparel decided to dispose of one of
their segments; Mercury Athletic. John Liedtke, head of the business development for Active Gear, Inc
saw it has a possible opportunity for them to acquire it. The footwear industry is very competitive,
with low growth and stable profit margins. AGI is very profitable but it is smaller than its competitors,
which is becoming a disadvantage. Therefore, Liedtke believes that if they takeover Mercury will
double AGI s revenue, increase it s leverage with contract manufactures and expand its presence with
key retailers and distributions. Liedtke is evaluating the company in order to find out ... Show more

It is important to look at it because it is a measure that investors can use to evaluate the financial
health of the company. However Liedkte being more conservative he says that the combined
businesses could achieve and EBIT of 9 % and when looking at the projections for Mercury from
2007 2011 we can see a growth in earnings. So then what are the cash flows if Liedtke thinks the
combined businesses will have a revenue growth of 2% in year 2011 considering we discounting back
to 2006. We need to calculate the Free Cash Flow (FCF) in order to determine if the Net profit Value is
positive or negative. Knowing that we will know if the acquisition should be undertaken. When
looking at the excel sheet we can see that the NVP using the discount rate given by the case 7.65 %
with a growth rate of 3 % gives us an NVP= $ 275,399.78. Therefore the NVP s value compares the
value of the investment made today to the same value of the amount in the future. So that is the
amount AGI needs to pay up front. The free cash flows are made from the financial statement given in
the case and were determined using the FCF method; EBIT (1 Tax Rate) + Depreciation amp;

Racial Profiling Research
Racial profiling has come to represent one of the latest challenges toward law enforcement agencies in
the United States. In America, unfortunately, racial profiling occurs. For instance, NYPD officers
stopped about 87 percent of the public that were either black or Latino (Geller, 2014). In addition,
approximately the same percentage was not guilty of a crime. In the study by the American Journal of
Public Health, young men who encounter numerous police contact or aggressive stops by the police
reported that they had more trauma and anxiety symptoms than among young men who had less of
these encounters with the police (Geller, 2014). This means that less aggressive invasive tactics are
necessary for suspect in order to reduce the possibility

Niemi s Argument Analysis
Niemi (2011) makes the argument that there is a greater need for civics classes at an early age in order
to increase political knowledge that students have in the future. The premise is that political attention
and voting are habitual, and promoting these values at a young age may create a type of inertia that
will carry out throughout their lives. In order to be successful, however, I would argue that simply
presenting information about political events and actors would not be sufficient. Neimi makes the
statement earlier that American students are struggling in mathematics and science, but then contents
that simply adding more classes with have a positive effect on civics. Instead of simply adding more
avenues of information for students, it makes more theoretical sense to make these classes active.
Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1977) would argue that in order to gain benefits of habitual voting,
they would need to rehearse the practice of voting. Given that many High school students cannot vote,
it would be up to the civics classes to simulate the experience of voting in a tangible way for the
students to receive benefits. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fishbein (1979) argues that intentions are the strongest predictor of behavior, and issues arise in
changing behavior when behavioral outcomes and actions are conflated. A behavioral outcome is a
grand, general goal. An example would being a good citizen. A behavioral action is a specific
occurrence that contributes to an outcome, but does not completely satisfy the outcome. An example
would be voting as an indicator of being a good citizen. Voting plays a role in being a good citizen, but
it doesn t completely satisfy it. The suggestion by Niemi, then, that providing more political
information in the classroom and motivating students to pursue it outside the classroom is one that is
simply one behavioral action that is being

11 October 2015 Sarcoidosis Sarcoidosis is like many words origin from the Greek language meaning
Flesh Like or Fleshy.
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease, although many researchers and doctors argue that Sarcoidosis
auto immune disease it actually causes the immune system to become over active. Sarcoidosis can
affects multiple organs but most commonly affects the lungs of about ninety percent of its patients.
Sarcoidosis is when white blood cells become overactive and put out granulomas which are a
collection of inflammatory cells.

There has not been any reported case that animals have Sarcoidosis or that having a domestic animal
will cause the disease to worsen. Sarcoidosis can decrease your chances of getting pregnant if
symptoms and outbreak is severe. There have been many women that still gave birth to healthy
children and no reports have been documented that the children were affected by the disease. Twenty
to thirty percent of patients with the disease affect their Cardio system. Twenty three to thirty percent
of patients have complete heart block while twenty five sixty five percent of patients wind up with
congestive Heart failure. Seventy percent of the patients that have sarcoidosis and have the affects in
their lungs have swollen lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are used throughout your body to filter out
harmful substances. Sarcoidosis can be diagnosed during an x ray exam. The x ray will show shadows
from the swollen lymph nodes around the lungs. This is not always an effective way to determine if it
is sarcoidosis the patient has, because when the lymph nodes are swollen it just means something isn t
right with the body. The symptoms this disease as well as the x ray can point to other issue such
cancer. The lymph Nodes swell when a problem has occurred such as an infection, or injury and white

The Effects of Colonization on Various African Countries...
In trying to analyze the link between colonial rule and nationalist rule, one cannot discount the
influence of the past on the present. Analyzing nationalist actions and decisions without taking into
account how society got to that point, and the situation of society when power was transferred would
be asinine. The effects of colonization on various African countries through border setting and
defining ethnic groups, the morphing of ethnic group disputes into class based struggles, and the
stunting of economies through failure to diversify national economies is intrinsically linked to the
paths followed by leadership after attaining independence. Previous to colonial rule, African
governance took place at the local level. Political power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faced with the prospect of living in an internment or rehabilitation camp, they decided to voice their
displeasure through an armed uprising. During the struggle for independence, the natives had a
common cause of ridding themselves of colonial rule. Many were able to look past the divisions that
had taken hold in their communities and band together for a common cause. Once independence was
achieved, however, there was far from a consensus on how to proceed in ruling their countries. Prior
to colonization in Nigeria, ethnic divisions had already begun to give way to class divisions. While
colonial rule obviously did not introduce these divisions, it did exacerbate them in order to be used for
a political agenda. The Northern part of the country had already begun entrenching itself as the
merchant class at the expense of the Southern citizens. (Badru, 81 82). Throughout colonial rule, this
was reinforced and this allowed the Northerners to maintain political control and further their
accumulation of wealth. Once independence was achieved, the North was able to solidify their
stranglehold over the South in writing through their constitution. As Bardu puts it The constitution that
was forced, by the British on postcolonial Nigeria was one that

Drug Trafficking In Brazil Essay
Over the course of the last decade, there has been an exponential growth in illicit trafficking of drugs
affects all aspects of life. Brazil is a direct victim of this trafficking as its homicide rate of 27.1 per
100,000 inhabitants. This figure is one of the worst in the world, most are largely linked to drug
trafficking by organized crime groups. Brazil is conscious of crime groups that control the illegal drug
trade are: Primeiro Comando da Capital, Comando Vermelho, and Amigos dos Amigos. Due to the
geographic location of Brazil, it is a pinnacle transit zone for drugs to be smuggled into Europe and
Africa. The predominant drug trafficking in Brazil is cocaine coming from Bolivia, Peru and
Columbia who wish to reach the transit zone in Brazil. This has a direct correlation in trends in drug
use, trafficking and illicit markets in the country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drug cases are grouped with serious crimes such as murder, rape and kidnapping. The delegation of
Brazil is known for being present at UN drug conventions in order to gain expertise on the topic. In

Brazil passed the Drug Law which states, Whoever acquires, keeps, holds in storage, transports or
carries upon himself, for personal use, drugs without authorization or in violation of legal or
regulatory decree, shall be subject to the following penalties: I: warnings about the effects of drugs; II:
community service; III: educational measures, completion of an educational course. With progress
comes complication as this law fails to recognize the difference between a drug user and drug
trafficker. An effect is the alarming increase in prisoners with the total up to 620,000 who swelter in
prisons. It is in best interest for the country to remain strict but refine the details that cause

The Impact Of Neuropsychology On The Christian Faith
The Christian faith is pluralistic, meaning, There [are] as many ways to love God as there [are]
Christian souls (Salzman, 2000, p.77). This reaches greater complexity when considering the impact
of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways, but what
about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of Sister John, a
nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She experiences headaches that develop into deep
spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her recurring seizures.
Sister John has temporal lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, tend[s] to be more psychological
(Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John s spiritual episodes were presumably caused by her medical
condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with God a lie? Was her faith a fabrication? The
implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian faith. Is God simply a
manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist because they exist within the realm of our
senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of ourselves? Sister John describes
a memory of her being drawn into service at the convent. She attended an early morning mass on
Christmas Day when something odd happened. If one looks closely, she describes experiences of
depersonalization, Instead of feeling trapped in a theater showing a bad movie, she saw herself as the
projector

The Evolution Of Film Noir
The film noir genre first appeared in the early 1940s and has grown since their first appearance on
screen. While there are various definitions and aspects that can define this genre, it is usual depicted as
having an anti hero set in a realistic setting while trying to fight inner demons and the outer world
surrounding problems simultaneously. As any genre, it has noticeable tropes that can place it within
this spectrum. Over the years, since the first decade of film noir, society has changed, causing the
genre to adapt. The changes are not limited to being on film, but also to those within other forms of
media, such as television and literature. Rather than focusing upon one area, it is better to look on it as
a whole. Headhunters is a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are at play in society, but hints that those connections may sometimes work on a level beyond all
human rationality. While this series may not be a Nordic series, it does have the Nordic noir idea of
including the broader audiences. The crime television series intends to include the big picture; all

The Value Of A Value Chain
Businesses create value by converting inputs (that is raw material, labor and overhead) into business
outputs in such a way that they have a greater value than the original input cost.
Manufacturing companies create value by acquiring raw materials and using them to produce
something useful. Retailers bring together a range of products and present them in a way that is
convenient to customers, sometimes supported by services such as fitting rooms or personal shopper
advice. And insurance companies offer policies to customers that are underwritten by larger re
insurance policies. The value that s created and captured by a company is the profit margin:
Value Created and Captured Cost of Creating that Value = Margin
The more value an organization creates, the more profitable it is likely to be. And when you provide
more value to your customers, you build competitive advantage. This is what Michael Porter
discussed this in his influential 1985 book competitive Advantage in which he first introduced the
concept of the value chain.
A value chain is a set of activities that an organization carries out to create value for its customers.
Porter proposed a general purpose value chain that companies can use to examine all of their
activities, and see how they re connected. The way in which value chain activities are performed
determines costs and affects profits.
Elements in Porter s Value Chain
Porter s Value Chain focuses on systems, and how inputs are changed into the outputs

Organized Crime In The United States
Introduction
Organized crime is often committed by highly controlled criminal groups that participate in illegal
activities for financial benefits. Indeed, organized crimes terrorize multiple facets of the American
nation, which include the US economy as well as national security. The FBI assigns the costs of
organized crime globally at one trillion dollars per year.
Organized Crime Groups Operating in the United States
A good way of studying the types of organized crimes in the US is by examining organized crime
groups that are very prominent in the US. Threats of organized crimes originate from various criminal
organizations which include but not limited to Italian, Asian, Middle Eastern, Balkan and African ...

Many researchers have indicated that there is no single unified Asian structured crime syndicate.
Rather, there are many crime organizations with some traditionally structured than others. With regard
to FBI reports, traditional syndicates include Triads and Japanese Yakuza while less traditional groups
include Fuck Ching, Bing circle among other small groups. These Asian crime groups are always
ready to work together across ethnic as well as racial lines provided that the outcome is lucrative for
the organizations. Asian crime syndicates get most of their incomes and profits from trafficking drugs,
counterfeiting, theft of autos, clothing, and software including cyber crimes. It has been revealed that
Washington DC, Los Angles, New Orléans and Portland are the major operational bases of Asian
organized crime.
Conclusion
Thus far, the nature of organized crime has evolved within the past few years, still is currently in a
phase of evolution. While the Italian American groups that were once the ruler and the head of the
underworld, the African American as well as Hispanic group s emergence has increased. Thus, the
study of cultural shifts of these groups is imperative since it shows the changes and nature of

Teaching Business, Health, And Other Life Skills
New Insights
Through work in this graduate programs here has been a constant gain of knowledge and new
perspectives being brought into light. For my interview, I chose a recent graduate looking to start
teaching business, health, and other life skills to high school students; this is mainly do my inability to
find the one area in student affairs I am truly passionate about, so I chose to speak with one of the
most passionate individuals I know. She did not wish for her name to be included, so I am going to
refer to her as Abby Rock. Abby places strong personal value on health, wellness, nutrition, and wants
to go back into high school to teach basic principles, from health and business, to teenagers. To help
her reach this goal, Abby chose to work towards getting her master s degree in education with a focus
on teaching. This was done simultaneously while she ran the operations of her family s gym,
completing her personal trainer certification, and observing teachers in various classrooms to find her
teaching style. I chose Abby because she is honest and does not stray far from her beliefs; this
interested me in how she will adapt to the classroom environment instead of the typical gym
environment she has been in.
Interview Breakdown Due to her busy schedule and travel constraints, the interview was conducted
over email throughout the past week. Abby defined leadership as, doing what is right when no one is

Tactics Of Fear
The Tactics of Fear
Roland Emmerich s A Day After Tomorrow (2004) emphasizes the impact of climate change on the
world after an abrupt catastrophic climate event, triggered by human induced climate change takes
place. The movie begins by showing the collapse of the Larsen B Ice Shelf, which causes a global
warming induced shutdown of the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation system (Leiserowitz). The
shutdown of the North Atlantic thermocline, triggers extreme weather events worldwide and
subsequently a new ice age, with wrenching global consequences (Leiserowitz). The movie follows,
Jack Hall a paleoclimatologist, as he travels across the country in the giant storm to reach his son, and
save him from the approaching ice age. As Jack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emmerich achieves this by capturing each individual natural disaster at different camera angles that
emphasis the violence of each disaster and emphasizes terror of the characters. Emmerich
demonstrates the enormity of each natural disaster by switching between the perspective of the scared
citizens and the perspective of the natural disaster. Doing this simple perspective flip he highlights the
large difference between the disaster and the citizen. For example, in the Tornado scene he uses an
accumulation of these techniques to scare the audience. He beings with a low angle shot of the
Tornado depicting how large it is in comparison to the city and people. He then switches to an aerial
view following the Tornado as it rips through the city. After letting the shocked audience watch the
destruction from a faraway view he moves the camera back down and makes it so that the camera is
positioned like a character in the storm. Using this technique of making it seem like the audience is in
the natural disaster scene triggers a nervous system response. As the audiences watches the scene as if
they are a part of it they quickly accumulate the fear the movie characters have for their own safety.
After letting the audience soak this in for a while he goes back to an aerial view where more tornados
are now tearing apart the city. Siobhan O Shea at student at University of California Santa Cruz,
picked up on the fear she was experiencing during this scene. For a while there I believe I was in
actual danger... my heart rate was pumping and I could feel myself getting ready to run. Once the
scene change I realized I was not a part of the movie nor in danger, but Emmerich definitely provokes
an emotional response for his audiences by using this camera angle position (O Shea).

Evaluation Of The Clinical Reasoning Cycle
The clinical reasoning process provides a template for health professionals to use as a tool when

needs. The purpose of this essay is to present a comprehensive discussion and justification identifying
two care priorities in relation to Jessica s case using the Levett Jones Clinical Reasoning Cycle while

The Between Prokaryotic And Evolution Of Cells And...
Essay topic: Symbioses between Prokaryotic cells that happened approximately 2 billion years ago are
thought to be at the origin of Eukaryotes. But mutually dependent symbioses continue to be
established at the cellular and organism levels. Read the section on the origin of Eukaryotes in the unit

symbioses in the origin and evolution of cells and organisms with novel capabilities.
Student and ID
Symbiosis refers to the close, mutually beneficial association between two or more different biological
species, which enables these species to undergo organismal evolution and variation in an assortment
of ways (Takahiro, Yoshiko, Naruo, Manabu, Nori, Takema 2016). Symbiosis comes in three main
forms of interaction; mutualistic, communalistic and parasitic. (10). The endosymbiont theory refers to
the collection of principles that models the origins of the mitochondrion, which commenced with the
engulfing of a bacterium by an archaeon (2). Such an establishment at cellular and organism levels is
of high importance for environmental, agricultural and human health (3). The origins of Eukaryotic
cells and its evolution, as well as the novel capabilities of certain cells and organisms as a result of
symbiosis is increasingly being recognised as an applied importance and hence will be the key focus
of this essay.

The War Poems of Wilfred Owen
Contradicting the Classical Ideas of Heroism and Romanticism in Dulce et Decorum est, The Send
Off, But I Was Looking At The Permanent Stars, The Deadbeat soldier, Counter Attack, Metal Cases
and other War Poems by Wilfred Owen
Owen displays the reality of war, atypically shown in 20th century literature. By divulging the
secrecies and terrors of brutal warfare, he exposes the superficiality of valor and false heroism;
through his vivid writing, he opens the eyelids of his readers and discloses, the old lie (Owen, Dulce et

fatigue and personal hells. Contrasting the Hemingway code hero, Owen displays the reality of war,

strongest. In this eternal dream all is at peace and harsh memories are discarded. A soldier becomes
godlike granting life or death, a creature of benevolence bestowing rest on the exhausted soldier, a

Caterpillar, obviously, has taken on a large amount of risk to itself because of this. If Caterpillar were
forced to liquidate its assets and pay off its debt, it would have a very hard time trying. Therefore,
Caterpillar s receivable account is a real weakness to the corporation as a whole.
Inventories
Inventories have been valued $871 million, an increase of $150 million from last year. This can be
viewed in a multitude of ways. Caterpillar may be expecting larger sales volume, and are trying to
compensate. Caterpillar could have inventory control problems. Usually, inventory increases are
viewed as a negative with a company that should be in theory practicing a just in time approach.
Cash
Cash on hand is $398 million. This is only a $110 million increase from December 31, 1999. This
means relatively little, as the cash flows for the corporation is what really matters. One look at the
statement of cash flows indicates that Caterpillar keeps capital expenditures consistent quarter after
quarter. The change in cash and short term investments indicate the company is removing most of its
liquidity. The movement from cash has been used to alleviate its debt.

Research Approach And Inductive Approach
When choosing the research approach, when the selection between deductive approach and inductive
approach both are suitable for the research. Deductive approach is when theory and hypothesis are

focused on the testing theory. When this theory developed from the analysis of collected data which

Comparing Miller And Azurdia s View Of Prayer
First, Miller s incitement that we must learn to pray as a child is profoundly encouraging as it brings
prayer to common ground, making it simple to grasp. Most of us can relate to how we interact and talk
with our fathers (or some father figure). We can remember asking for help, crying out in desperation,
saying thank you for good gifts, etc. Miller s encouragement reminds me of Psalms 131: O Lord, my
heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and
too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother

Second, as it relates to how Miller s encouragement to childlike prayer relates to Azurdia s view that

fundamental point is in opposition Azurdia s view. Ultimately, Miller speaks to the manner or mindset
in which we are to approach God in prayer, while Azurdia address the substance of our prayers.
Consider Miller s words: Less mature Christians have little need to prayer [...] Surprisingly, mature
Christians feel less mature on the inside. When they hear Jesus say, Apart from me you can do nothing
(John 15:5), they nod in agreement [...] That s why strong Christians pray more. (Miller, 57 59). In this
you can quickly see that Miller views prayer much more than mere childlike babbling (cf. Matt.

Advertisings are created to make us buy things. All the companies want to sell their products, because
they want to make profit. When a company knows that a product that it manufactures is not very good
they do not share that with their customers. On the contrary, they make a very impressive advertising
for the product, because all they want is to sell it. Everyone knows that advertising a product is not

They say: better ingredients, better pizza, papa John s. First of all I don t understand what they meant
by saying better . Better than what? I assume that it is better than the pizza that I eat now. How do they
know it is better? Different people like different types of pizza; some people even like it when it is
homemade. I love the pizza that my grandmother prepares more than any other type of pizza I have
ever tasted. She has a little garden outside her house and she plants peppers and some tomatoes there.
No one can ever convince me that they have better ingredients and better pizza than my grandmother

hunger, the line pops up in our head Better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John s . We put our shoes on
and run to the nearest Papa John s restaurant because the company s advertisers have made us believe
that they sell the best pizza.
Another technique that advertisers use is the presence of role models. You see a person like Lebron
James advertising the soft drink Sprite. You may start thinking that since he is such a good basketball
player and he drinks Sprite then if you start drinking it may be you will look like him at least a little.

* Advertising
The advertising activities of G2 are two fold, online and offline. The objective of their advertising
strategy is to increase awareness of benefits of G2 and reinforce that idea with an aim of
differentiating the products and persuading customers towards purchase.
Offline advertising
Gatorade used Float commercials, which features sportsmen and women such as NBA s Dwayne
Wade and gymnast Chellsie Memmel. The advertising repeats Mohammed Ali s Quote Float like a
butterfly and sting like a bee which supports the brand slogan in a way that floating portrays lightness
in calories and sting like a bee portrays the ability to accurately hit performance targets. By employing
high repetitions of advertisements during sports events such as Super bowl, the most watched event in
US TV, they ensure high exposure to their brand thereby increasing awareness amp; recall of G2.
Their print advertisements such as Gatorade Double Life mainly focus on sports magazines such as
Sports Illustrated, Bounce and Dime as they carry a synergy with their target audience of Athletes,
professional or non professional.
The TV advertising benefits for G2 in terms of Clout against cost as it reaches a large number of
people which reduces cost per head. But it can also be argued that clout is low with both mediums as
they cannot be personalized. However, there is

describes them as reflective poets as opposed to merely intellectual ones. Eliot says they have the
ability to feel their thought as immediately as the odor of a rose, compared to the strictly thought

when the speaker says, Reason, your viceroy in me, me [...] This line contains anadiplosis, followed

The Machine Stops, By Jonathan Forster
Society today possesses an over reliance on technology. Advancements in technology paved the way
for the formation of new applications and forms of social media that potentially lead to the loss of the
intimacy of communication and personal relationships among users. As a result of the ease of
communication through technology, face to face interaction rarely occurs anymore. Long before
technology began advancing at a rapid pace, authors used their medium of writing to comment on the
dangers of relying on technology too excessively. E.M. Forster s short story, The Machine Stops,
written in 1909, highlights a dilemma that society s over reliance on technology created between
virtual connectivity and face to face interaction. That over reliance, perfect for the futuristic, dystopian
society in The Machine Stops, also serves as a cautionary tale for the technological culture of today.
Vashti takes comfort in all the luxuries that the Machine provides, but that comfort comes with a price.
Immediately after his birth, Kuno was taken from Vashti and placed into a public nursery, seeing as

expectations of parents do not include actually raising their children. Not once in the short story did

Why Is Lying Wrong
Why is lying bad?

Christian views on this matter include the fact that lying should not take place as it abuses Gods gift to
humans, communication. However can I lie ever be justified. Are there circumstances where a lie can

Augustine (a famous philosopher)
Augustine believed that some lies could be pardoned and justified, and that there were in fact
occasions when lying would be the right thing to do.
He grouped lies into 8 classes, depending on how difficult it was to pardon them. Here s his list, with
the least forgivable lies at the top:
Lies told in teaching religion
Lies which hurt someone and help nobody
Lies which hurt someone but benefit someone else
Lies told for the pleasure of deceiving someone
Lies told to please others in conversation
Lies which hurt nobody and benefit someone
Lies which hurt nobody and benefit someone by keeping open the possibility of their repentance
Lies which hurt nobody and protect a person from physical defilement
Christian belief
The christian view on lying is the fact that God gave us human beings a gift and that gift is,
communication. We should not abuse this gift by hurting others with our lives depending on how big
or how small. Lies are bad and can really have a bad and heavy impact on one s life. God gave human

that supported my original hypothesis that in the addition of substrate and an enzyme the reaction

In the second part of the experiment we were testing the inhibition action of Catechol Oxidase at

catechol last to ensure no premature reaction. It was hypothesized that (PTU) is a non competitive
inhibitor and doubling the substrate will have no reversal effect. In the exercise # 2 we observed the
effect of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, pH and temperature on enzyme activity. All
the data showed that once potato extract was added to catechol and water the reaction varied
dependent on the level of catechol. As in

Montresor Vs Fortunato
Edgar Allan Poe, the author of The Cask of Amontillado, helps us understand Montresor and
Fortunato by showing us their character traits. Both men have different attributes that help readers
distinguish their personalities. Although Montresor and Fortunato s traits are polar opposites, their
qualities make the story more interesting for the readers. While Montresor was carrying out his
revenge, Fortunato s traits are shown as being spiteful, gullible, and oblivious. At the beginning of The
Cask of Amontillado, Montresor is portrayed as a vengeful enemy towards Fortunato. Obviously,
Fortunato must ve insulted him in some way to result in his act of revenge. From the quote, The
thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but

The Decision Making Is Defined As A Cognitive Process
Forum 2: Original post Decision Making In life individuals are faced with a continuous flow of
decisions to be made and problems to be solved. Decision making is defined as a cognitive process in
which a choice is developed regarding a belief or course of action from among two or more
alternatives (Robbins Judge, 2009). Individuals compose decisions as a reaction to a problem, a
perceived deviation linking the present condition and a desired condition (Robbins, 2009). For
example, in the radiation oncology field, multiple devices are used to make treatments more accurate,
reproducible, and elevate patient comfort. These devices are used frequently so they quickly become
worn. They must be checked periodically to ensure structural stability and compliance with infectious
control regulations. Employees are given the task of examining the devices, making decisions
regarding the condition of the devices, and reporting what needs to be replaced. Managers and
employees must keep in mind that incessant replacement of these devices is costly and can cause
interruptions in patient care. Managers and employees should compose optimal decisions regarding
the care and replacement of such devices in order to be effective, efficient, and productive. Rational
Decision Making Model One process discussed in organizational behavior for decision making is the
Rational Decision Making Model. This model employs six steps for decision making: 1. Interpret the
problem. 2. Determine the decision

The Best Restaurant In Beavercreek There are many good restaurants in Beavercreek and I just can t
decide which one is the best. There are breakfast places, there are lunch places, there are dinner
places, and there are even places where you can get all three. I ve also seen restaurants where you can
get the food yourself! Those places are called buffets. Golden Corral is a buffet. I don t really have a
favorite restaurant, I like different places for different things.
For breakfast I like First Watch. It s a little far from my house but it is good! They have delicious
muffins and yummy pancakes, that are perfect for any occasion. For lunch I like Steak n Shake. They

Analysis Of Silver Creek Wetland Complex
Silver Creek Wetland Complex is a rare coastal wetland found along the eastern side of the
Nottawasaga Bay Shoreline. It falls within the town boundary of the Town of Collingwood, which was
formally a part of the Town of Blue Mountains. Because the area is a part of the greater Silver Creek
Watershed, the marshy land is classified as a Schedule B Category 1 land under Environmental
Protection as per the Official Plan of the Town of Collingwood. Blue Mountain Trust Watershed
Practice monitors the watershed and the significant wetland is protected and maintained by
Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority. The 2700 Ha watershed flows through the Lake of
Clouds by Castle Glen, down the Niagara Escarpment, where the 160 Ha complex at the ... Show

By the end of this report you should have a better perception on the geological landscape of Silver
Creek Wetland Complex, and further in depth knowledge on what stewardship responsibilities fall on
you and your relationship with the land you use.
1.2 Public Land Management Conservation Qualifications
In 1985, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) evaluated the Silver Creek Wetland, and qualified
it for environmental protection. A re evaluation was done in 1995, and a decision was made to
combine three areas into one complex. The provincially significant wetland is listed as unimpaired and
protection was recommended in 2000 by Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority s watershed
health monitoring summary. As the area provides vital biological, social, and hydro geological
functions, protection is crucial. Not only does the area act as flood control, water purification, and
sediment containment, it is a prime fishing location for locals as it provides a cold water habitat and
spawning grounds for several varieties of game fish such as brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis),
Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Numerous
species of birds, such as the Caspian terns (Hydroprogne caspia), the great egret (Ardea alba), the
black crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), and other waterfowl also favour the staging and
feeding grounds that the

My Life Essay
I was born in Russian Far East, at a controversial Sakhalin island. The island belong to the chain of
islands of the east cost of Russia that is contested by Japan as their own. Around 1950, USSR was
colonizing second half of Sakhalin island, as a result, a lot of young people was sent over or came
over to build out the island s economy. My parents were among those settlers. With musical and
railroad engineering background, they end up serving in police force and military intelligence division
KGB. Their carrier defined my early childhood. Soviet military took our family across continental
USSR and stationed us in many parts of the country such as Ural mountains and finally in central
Russia City of Ivanovo. All of that taught me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back, I think this is where I seeded my carrier in Computer industry. During that time, I built
several basic computers on i8080 and Zilog Z80 microprocessors, learned assembler programming
and concepts of software development utilizing advanced languages such as BASIC. Even before I
finished school, I was spending all available time at University Data Center, growing and practicing
new skills. It was that time when, I put a group of fellow students together to learn and develop
software on PDP 11 computers. That group carried me through a whole period of my life in Russia.
As I was deeply submerged into Computers, Russia was evolving under Eltsin leadership. One of the
radical change brought was to open a door back again for Soviet Entrepreneurs. That change created a
slew of software development companies which begun changing Soviet Union from the inside out.
Few of my friends and I went on and open software development startup. By that time, I was attending
2nd year of University and was working as computer network administrator in the Power Station
Design Company.
Computer networks were becoming a necessity of any business and my sphere of interest. The more I
thought, the more I get puzzled on how to take computer networks to public. I found about the
existence of the modems, BBS and FIDOnet. FIDOnet was a hierarchical dial up network of
computers nodes. I

Essay about Sexual Tolerance of Gays in the Military
Sexual Tolerance of Gays in the Military
In 1999, more than 1,000 men and women were discharged from military service due to their
sexuality. That number has actually decreased compared to recent years. (Suro NP) Homosexuals were
purged from federal employment in 1950, with Bill Clinton updating that policy in 1993 by adding the
Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy. (Deicher 176) This policy doesn t work and needs to either
be updated again or the ban against homosexuals lifted. Gays should be allowed to fight for the
military for employment reasons, the right to fight for one s country, and because they are no different
from anyone else. The fact of the matter is that not even experts can argue in favor of keeping the ...

He said in his campaign that he would abolish the ban on gays in the military. When he said this, he
triggered a wave of homosexuals, previously in the armed forces, and currently enrolled at that time,
to state their homosexuality, and come out of the closet . With thousands of gays doing this in a span
of two years, Clinton s promise was shot out of reach. His only hope was to improve on the law
already in place, and he did so by adding the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy in 1993. This policy made it
legal for homosexuals to be in the military, as long as they didn t state their sexuality. It also made it
against the law to ask openly if a person is a homosexual or not. The policy was supposed to be law
and obeyed, by everyone in the service.
This policy turned out to be a flop and wasn t taken very seriously, as the higher ranked officers did
not punish violators of the rule and some didn t abide by it themselves. So later on, the Don t Ask,
Don t Tell policy was modified to the Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy, to try and cut down
on violators of this law. This has been working to a point, but needs to be changed to teach and inform
all members of the army about gays and lesbians, and to also discipline quickly and severely the
members of the military that would be considered harassment, including verbal abuse, sometimes
known as gay bashing.
The U.S. Military provides a very extensive line of employment.

Production of Crude Extract
Crude Extract
In order to produce crude extract, bovine tissue was obtained, precisely minced to exclude extra fat,
and then blended with pH 7.2 phosphate buffer. The purpose of blending the tissue with the buffer was
to pulverize the cells, causing them to release their contents evenly most importantly lactate
dehydrogenase (LDH) into the solution. Since other cell components such as proteases which reduce
LDH were also released from the lysed cells, the slurry was kept on ice to minimize their kinetic
activity. The solution was then centrifuged, creating a pellet made of cellular debris and leaving
behind the crude product in the supernatant. Using data from the enzyme assay, the crude extract
revealed 155±7 mg total protein, 4980±80 units of total activity, 32±2 units/mg of specific activity, a
100% yield, and a purification factor of 1 fold (Table 1).
40% Supernatant
The purpose of the 40% ammonium sulfate fractionation step is to extract impurities with low
solubility such as lipids from the solution. Because ammonium sulfate salt is extremely soluble, it
hydrates competitively against weakly soluble impurities causing them to precipitate out of the
solution as a pellet. Hence, LDH is left behind in the 40% supernatant. This step revealed a slight drop
in total protein amount from 155±7 to 124±5 mg and comparatively no change in total activity from
4980±80 to 4900±100 units (Table 1). This data agrees with the salting out theory which states that
since only weakly

Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo
How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to,
and thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface
reflection of the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was
written by Don DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of
postmodernism and how the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the
meaning behind events, is centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to
postmodernism with the obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical
events surrounding him such as the Vietnam war, John F. Kennedy Assassination, the Civil War
Rights, and the revolts that occurred afterwards. The material in his novels are described as, Living
with the dangerous times (Nance, Web). Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New
York. He didn t grow up with an interest in writing until his teenage years, where he began reading
during a summer job. The first novel he has ever written was called Americana, which was finally
published in 1971. The story, Videotape, demonstrates that the society is centered on death and
violence through media because it is viewed as more realistic than the actual event. One of the key
points in the story is that the accessibility of technology creates realism, which portrays daily life

Leisure Time Is An Important Tool Of Social Control
Introduction
Leisure time itself can be defined in many ways. According to Cordes (2003), the meaning of leisure
varies among cultures and that there is little agreement about its meaning and implications... some see
leisure as freedom from work, while others view it as an important tool of social control or a symbol
of one s status . We have all experienced leisure in our lifetime. We have all taken part in activities we
deem fun, exciting, or relaxing. The purpose of reflecting upon the various ways we spend our free
time is to provide reflection upon our lives. Free time is valued, and by reflecting upon what we do
with our time can help us find insight on whether or not our free time is spent wisely. As I reflect upon
my life experience in relation to Nash s Paradigm of Free Time, I hope to gain more insight on how I
have been spending my free time. I expect to reflect upon the less productive times and make a change
on how to spend my free time better.
Injury to Society Injury to society includes delinquency and crime. When I was in high school, around
15 or 16 years old, I used to shoplift things from the store. While I did do these things out of boredom,
I had mostly stolen things for the monetary value. My leisure time was spent mostly at the mall, with
other friends who would steal as well. Eventually I did get caught, and fortunately I was let off with
just a warning. After that, I never stole again. The effect of me stealing as a teen has left an emotional

  • 2. Social Acceptance In College Essay College Fraternities and Sororities The High Cost of Social Acceptance College students who choose to join fraternities or sororities do so because of their need for social acceptance. I am personally against fraternities and sororities. I feel that it is money spent for the purpose of buying friends. There are many ways to meet interesting people other than devoting all of your time and money to a club in order to do so. Perhaps the people who join these groups have low self esteem, social anxiety, or feel that the best way to make friends in college is to pay for them. I find this issue to be interesting because there are many Greek organizations on campus that are constantly advertising and promoting themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Non members chose not to join because of numerous reasons. Out of twelve non members, seven agreed that they would not join due to a lack of money, and six out of those seven said they still would not join even if they had the funds. Nine of the twelve felt that they would not have enough time to devote themselves to a fraternity or sorority. What I found to be the most interesting was that ten felt that the reason people join these organizations are just paying for friendship. The only reason these non members agreed that it would be a beneficial to join a fraternity or sorority would be for academic achievements, such as the Honors fraternity, or one that pertained to your major. Twelve members of fraternities or sororities were also surveyed. Eleven stated that they joined so they can meet new people and make friends. Only five agreed that they joined so they could help the community. Eight of the ten felt they needed to join so they would have a place to party and also meet girls. Three felt that being a member taught you leadership skills. Two joined because they thought it would look good on a resume. My second method of research was a personal interview. Here, I was able to ask more questions than on a random survey in the Oak Grove. On the issue of students not having time to devote themselves to one of the organizations, one non member commented, I know that as a student I am way too busy with school ... Mercury Athletic MERCURY ATHLETIC FOOTWEAR Problem statement: West Coast Fashions, Inc a large business of men s and women s apparel decided to dispose of one of their segments; Mercury Athletic. John Liedtke, head of the business development for Active Gear, Inc saw it has a possible opportunity for them to acquire it. The footwear industry is very competitive, with low growth and stable profit margins. AGI is very profitable but it is smaller than its competitors, which is becoming a disadvantage. Therefore, Liedtke believes that if they takeover Mercury will double AGI s revenue, increase it s leverage with contract manufactures and expand its presence with key retailers and distributions. It is important to look at it because it is a measure that investors can use to evaluate the financial health of the company. However Liedkte being more conservative he says that the combined businesses could achieve and EBIT of 9 % and when looking at the projections for Mercury from 2007 2011 we can see a growth in earnings. So then what are the cash flows if Liedtke thinks the combined businesses will have a revenue growth of 2% in year 2011 considering we discounting back to 2006. We need to calculate the Free Cash Flow (FCF) in order to determine if the Net profit Value is positive or negative. Knowing that we will know if the acquisition should be undertaken. When looking at the excel sheet we can see that the NVP using the discount rate given by the case 7.65 % with a growth rate of 3 % gives us an NVP= $ 275,399.78. Therefore the NVP s value compares the value of the investment made today to the same value of the amount in the future. So that is the amount AGI needs to pay up front. In America, unfortunately, racial profiling occurs. For instance, NYPD officers stopped about 87 percent of the public that were either black or Latino (Geller, 2014). In addition, approximately the same percentage was not guilty of a crime. In the study by the American Journal of Public Health, young men who encounter numerous police contact or aggressive stops by the police reported that they had more trauma and anxiety symptoms than among young men who had less of these encounters with the police (Geller, 2014). • 5. Niemi s Argument Analysis Niemi (2011) makes the argument that there is a greater need for civics classes at an early age in order to increase political knowledge that students have in the future. The premise is that political attention and voting are habitual, and promoting these values at a young age may create a type of inertia that will carry out throughout their lives. In order to be successful, however, I would argue that simply presenting information about political events and actors would not be sufficient. Neimi makes the statement earlier that American students are struggling in mathematics and science, but then contents that simply adding more classes with have a positive effect on civics. Instead of simply adding more avenues of information for students, it makes more theoretical sense to make these classes active. Social Learning Theory (Bandura, 1977) would argue that in order to gain benefits of habitual voting, they would need to rehearse the practice of voting. Given that many High school students cannot vote, it would be up to the civics classes to simulate the experience of voting in a tangible way for the students to receive benefits. ... Fishbein (1979) argues that intentions are the strongest predictor of behavior, and issues arise in changing behavior when behavioral outcomes and actions are conflated. A behavioral outcome is a grand, general goal. An example would being a good citizen. A behavioral action is a specific occurrence that contributes to an outcome, but does not completely satisfy the outcome. An example would be voting as an indicator of being a good citizen. In trying to analyze the link between colonial rule and nationalist rule, one cannot discount the influence of the past on the present. Analyzing nationalist actions and decisions without taking into account how society got to that point, and the situation of society when power was transferred would be asinine. The effects of colonization on various African countries through border setting and defining ethnic groups, the morphing of ethnic group disputes into class based struggles, and the stunting of economies through failure to diversify national economies is intrinsically linked to the paths followed by leadership after attaining independence. Previous to colonial rule, African governance took place at the local level. Political power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faced with the prospect of living in an internment or rehabilitation camp, they decided to voice their displeasure through an armed uprising. During the struggle for independence, the natives had a common cause of ridding themselves of colonial rule. Many were able to look past the divisions that had taken hold in their communities and band together for a common cause. Once independence was achieved, however, there was far from a consensus on how to proceed in ruling their countries. Prior to colonization in Nigeria, ethnic divisions had already begun to give way to class divisions. While colonial rule obviously did not introduce these divisions, it did exacerbate them in order to be used for a political agenda. The Northern part of the country had already begun entrenching itself as the merchant class at the expense of the Southern citizens. (Badru, 81 82). Throughout colonial rule, this was reinforced and this allowed the Northerners to maintain political control and further their accumulation of wealth. Once independence was achieved, the North was able to solidify their stranglehold over the South in writing through their constitution. • 9. The Impact Of Neuropsychology On The Christian Faith The Christian faith is pluralistic, meaning, There [are] as many ways to love God as there [are] Christian souls (Salzman, 2000, p.77). This reaches greater complexity when considering the impact of neuropsychology on the Christian faith. People experience God in a plethora of ways, but what about seemingly brain induced experiences? Salzman (2000) describes the journey of Sister John, a nun at the Carmelite convent in Los Angeles. She experiences headaches that develop into deep spiritual episodes, which her doctor later informs her, are the symptoms of her recurring seizures. Sister John has temporal lobe epilepsy and her doctor explains that it, tend[s] to be more psychological (Salzman, 2000, p.68). Sister John s spiritual episodes were presumably caused by her medical condition. So, were all of her spiritual encounters with God a lie? Was her faith a fabrication? The implication of these questions can be quite troubling for the Christian faith. Is God simply a manifestation created within our minds? Objects exist because they exist within the realm of our senses. If we cannot trust our senses, then what truly exists outside of ourselves? Sister John describes a memory of her being drawn into service at the convent. She attended an early morning mass on Christmas Day when something odd happened. • 14. The Value Of A Value Chain Businesses create value by converting inputs (that is raw material, labor and overhead) into business outputs in such a way that they have a greater value than the original input cost. Manufacturing companies create value by acquiring raw materials and using them to produce something useful. Retailers bring together a range of products and present them in a way that is convenient to customers, sometimes supported by services such as fitting rooms or personal shopper advice. And insurance companies offer policies to customers that are underwritten by larger re insurance policies. The value that s created and captured by a company is the profit margin: Value Created and Captured Cost of Creating that Value = Margin The more value an organization creates, the more profitable it is likely to be. And when you provide more value to your customers, you build competitive advantage. This is what Michael Porter discussed this in his influential 1985 book competitive Advantage in which he first introduced the concept of the value chain. A value chain is a set of activities that an organization carries out to create value for its customers. Porter proposed a general purpose value chain that companies can use to examine all of their activities, and see how they re connected. The way in which value chain activities are performed determines costs and affects profits. For my interview, I chose a recent graduate looking to start teaching business, health, and other life skills to high school students; this is mainly do my inability to find the one area in student affairs I am truly passionate about, so I chose to speak with one of the most passionate individuals I know. She did not wish for her name to be included, so I am going to refer to her as Abby Rock. Abby places strong personal value on health, wellness, nutrition, and wants to go back into high school to teach basic principles, from health and business, to teenagers. To help her reach this goal, Abby chose to work towards getting her master s degree in education with a focus on teaching. This was done simultaneously while she ran the operations of her family s gym, completing her personal trainer certification, and observing teachers in various classrooms to find her teaching style. I chose Abby because she is honest and does not stray far from her beliefs; this interested me in how she will adapt to the classroom environment instead of the typical gym environment she has been in. • 19. Tactics Of Fear The Tactics of Fear Roland Emmerich s A Day After Tomorrow (2004) emphasizes the impact of climate change on the world after an abrupt catastrophic climate event, triggered by human induced climate change takes place. The movie begins by showing the collapse of the Larsen B Ice Shelf, which causes a global warming induced shutdown of the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation system (Leiserowitz). The shutdown of the North Atlantic thermocline, triggers extreme weather events worldwide and subsequently a new ice age, with wrenching global consequences (Leiserowitz). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emmerich achieves this by capturing each individual natural disaster at different camera angles that emphasis the violence of each disaster and emphasizes terror of the characters. Emmerich demonstrates the enormity of each natural disaster by switching between the perspective of the scared citizens and the perspective of the natural disaster. Doing this simple perspective flip he highlights the large difference between the disaster and the citizen. For example, in the Tornado scene he uses an accumulation of these techniques to scare the audience. He beings with a low angle shot of the Tornado depicting how large it is in comparison to the city and people. He then switches to an aerial view following the Tornado as it rips through the city. After letting the shocked audience watch the destruction from a faraway view he moves the camera back down and makes it so that the camera is positioned like a character in the storm. Using this technique of making it seem like the audience is in the natural disaster scene triggers a nervous system response. As the audiences watches the scene as if they are a part of it they quickly accumulate the fear the movie characters have for their own safety. After letting the audience soak this in for a while he goes back to an aerial view where more tornados are now tearing apart the city. Siobhan O Shea at student at University of California Santa Cruz, picked up on the fear she was experiencing during this scene. For a while there I believe I was in actual danger... my heart rate was pumping and I could feel myself getting ready to run. Once the scene change I realized I was not a part of the movie nor in danger, but Emmerich definitely provokes an emotional response for his audiences by using this camera angle position (O Shea). ... We can remember asking for help, crying out in desperation, saying thank you for good gifts, etc. Miller s encouragement reminds me of Psalms 131: O Lord, my heart is not lifted up, my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. Advancements in technology paved the way for the formation of new applications and forms of social media that potentially lead to the loss of the intimacy of communication and personal relationships among users. Long before technology began advancing at a rapid pace, authors used their medium of writing to comment on the dangers of relying on technology too excessively. E.M. Forster s short story, The Machine Stops, written in 1909, highlights a dilemma that society s over reliance on technology created between virtual connectivity and face to face interaction. That over reliance, perfect for the futuristic, dystopian society in The Machine Stops, also serves as a cautionary tale for the technological culture of today. Christian views on this matter include the fact that lying should not take place as it abuses Gods gift to humans, communication. However can I lie ever be justified. Augustine (a famous philosopher) Augustine believed that some lies could be pardoned and justified, and that there were in fact occasions when lying would be the right thing to do. He grouped lies into 8 classes, depending on how difficult it was to pardon them. Here s his list, with the least forgivable lies at the top: Lies told in teaching religion Lies which hurt someone and help nobody Lies which hurt someone but benefit someone else Lies told for the pleasure of deceiving someone Lies told to please others in conversation Lies which hurt nobody and benefit someone Lies which hurt nobody and benefit someone by keeping open the possibility of their repentance Lies which hurt nobody and protect a person from physical defilement Christian belief The christian view on lying is the fact that God gave us human beings a gift and that gift is, communication. We should not abuse this gift by hurting others with our lives depending on how big or how small. Lies are bad and can really have a bad and heavy impact on one s life. Title: The Effect of Substrate Concentration, Enzyme Concentration, pH and Temperature on Enzyme Activity Abstract: In the following experiments we will measure precise amounts of potato extract as well as Phenylthiourea, combined with or without deionized water and in some instances change the temperature and observe and record the reaction. We will also investigate the different levels of prepared pH on varying samples of the potato extract and the Phenylthiourea and record the results. We will answer question such as what is the best temperature for optimum temperature reaction as well as the best pH level for the same reaction. After measuring equal amounts of distilled water and either adding or subtracting catechol which we referred to as the substrate some reactions was seen immediately. After which we were able to get data that supported my original hypothesis that in the addition of substrate and an enzyme the reaction would be present in varying degrees dependent on whether a temperature change was provided or not. In the second part of the experiment we were testing the inhibition action of Catechol Oxidase at different levels in several tubes of varying samples of potato extract, phenylthiourea (PTU) and distilled water. The experiment showed that (PTU) bonded with the extract and the water causing a reaction whereas there was no reaction in tube # 1 where there was an equal amount of everything in the tube. And test tube # 3 was the control tube where the (PTU) was eliminated as to observe if there was any reaction at all. Of course with the whole experiment we had to be very careful as to add the catechol last to ensure no premature reaction. It was hypothesized that (PTU) is a non competitive inhibitor and doubling the substrate will have no reversal effect. In the exercise # 2 we observed the effect of substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, pH and temperature on enzyme activity. All the data showed that once potato extract was added to catechol and water the reaction varied dependent on the level of catechol. As in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. The Decision Making Is Defined As A Cognitive Process Forum 2: Original post Decision Making In life individuals are faced with a continuous flow of decisions to be made and problems to be solved. Decision making is defined as a cognitive process in which a choice is developed regarding a belief or course of action from among two or more alternatives (Robbins Judge, 2009). Individuals compose decisions as a reaction to a problem, a perceived deviation linking the present condition and a desired condition (Robbins, 2009). For example, in the radiation oncology field, multiple devices are used to make treatments more accurate, reproducible, and elevate patient comfort. These devices are used frequently so they quickly become worn. They must be checked periodically to ensure structural stability and compliance with infectious control regulations. Employees are given the task of examining the devices, making decisions regarding the condition of the devices, and reporting what needs to be replaced. Managers and employees must keep in mind that incessant replacement of these devices is costly and can cause interruptions in patient care. Managers and employees should compose optimal decisions regarding the care and replacement of such devices in order to be effective, efficient, and productive. Rational Decision Making Model One process discussed in organizational behavior for decision making is the Rational Decision Making Model. This model employs six steps for decision making: 1. Interpret the problem. 2. Determine the decision ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A re evaluation was done in 1995, and a decision was made to combine three areas into one complex. The provincially significant wetland is listed as unimpaired and protection was recommended in 2000 by Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority s watershed health monitoring summary. As the area provides vital biological, social, and hydro geological functions, protection is crucial. Not only does the area act as flood control, water purification, and sediment containment, it is a prime fishing location for locals as it provides a cold water habitat and spawning grounds for several varieties of game fish such as brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), and rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). Essay about Sexual Tolerance of Gays in the Military Sexual Tolerance of Gays in the Military In 1999, more than 1,000 men and women were discharged from military service due to their sexuality. That number has actually decreased compared to recent years. (Suro NP) Homosexuals were purged from federal employment in 1950, with Bill Clinton updating that policy in 1993 by adding the Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy. (Deicher 176) This policy doesn t work and needs to either be updated again or the ban against homosexuals lifted. He said in his campaign that he would abolish the ban on gays in the military. When he said this, he triggered a wave of homosexuals, previously in the armed forces, and currently enrolled at that time, to state their homosexuality, and come out of the closet . With thousands of gays doing this in a span of two years, Clinton s promise was shot out of reach. His only hope was to improve on the law already in place, and he did so by adding the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy in 1993. This policy made it legal for homosexuals to be in the military, as long as they didn t state their sexuality. It also made it against the law to ask openly if a person is a homosexual or not. The policy was supposed to be law and obeyed, by everyone in the service. This policy turned out to be a flop and wasn t taken very seriously, as the higher ranked officers did not punish violators of the rule and some didn t abide by it themselves. So later on, the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy was modified to the Don t Ask, Don t Tell, Don t Pursue policy, to try and cut down on violators of this law. This has been working to a point, but needs to be changed to teach and inform all members of the army about gays and lesbians, and to also discipline quickly and severely the members of the military that would be considered harassment, including verbal abuse, sometimes known as gay bashing. The U.S. Military provides a very extensive line of employment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Production of Crude Extract Crude Extract In order to produce crude extract, bovine tissue was obtained, precisely minced to exclude extra fat, and then blended with pH 7.2 phosphate buffer. The purpose of blending the tissue with the buffer was to pulverize the cells, causing them to release their contents evenly most importantly lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) into the solution. Since other cell components such as proteases which reduce LDH were also released from the lysed cells, the slurry was kept on ice to minimize their kinetic activity. The solution was then centrifuged, creating a pellet made of cellular debris and leaving behind the crude product in the supernatant. Using data from the enzyme assay, the crude extract revealed 155±7 mg total protein, 4980±80 units of total activity, 32±2 units/mg of specific activity, a 100% yield, and a purification factor of 1 fold (Table 1). 40% Supernatant The purpose of the 40% ammonium sulfate fractionation step is to extract impurities with low solubility such as lipids from the solution. Because ammonium sulfate salt is extremely soluble, it hydrates competitively against weakly soluble impurities causing them to precipitate out of the solution as a pellet. Hence, LDH is left behind in the 40% supernatant. This step revealed a slight drop in total protein amount from 155±7 to 124±5 mg and comparatively no change in total activity from 4980±80 to 4900±100 units (Table 1). This data agrees with the salting out theory which states that since only weakly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Summary Of Videotape By Don Delillo How can we determine what s real? The mass media were once thought of as holding up a mirror to, and thereby reflecting, a wider social reality. Now that reality is only definable in terms of surface reflection of the mirror was once said by Dominic Strinati (1992). The short fiction, Videotape, was written by Don DeLillo in 1997 published in one of his novels Underworld (1997). The themes of postmodernism and how the role of mass media forms false representation, resulting in changes of the meaning behind events, is centered on the story Videotape . The impact of media attracts the society to postmodernism with the obsession of violence. Don DeLillo was influenced by several historical events surrounding him such as the Vietnam war, John F. Kennedy Assassination, the Civil War Rights, and the revolts that occurred afterwards. The material in his novels are described as, Living with the dangerous times (Nance, Web). Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in Bronx, New York. He didn t grow up with an interest in writing until his teenage years, where he began reading during a summer job. The first novel he has ever written was called Americana, which was finally published in 1971. The story, Videotape, demonstrates that the society is centered on death and violence through media because it is viewed as more realistic than the actual event. One of the key points in the story is that the accessibility of technology creates realism, which portrays daily life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Leisure Time Is An Important Tool Of Social Control Introduction Leisure time itself can be defined in many ways. According to Cordes (2003), the meaning of leisure varies among cultures and that there is little agreement about its meaning and implications... some see leisure as freedom from work, while others view it as an important tool of social control or a symbol of one s status . We have all experienced leisure in our lifetime. We have all taken part in activities we deem fun, exciting, or relaxing. The purpose of reflecting upon the various ways we spend our free time is to provide reflection upon our lives. Free time is valued, and by reflecting upon what we do with our time can help us find insight on whether or not our free time is spent wisely. As I reflect upon my life experience in relation to Nash s Paradigm of Free Time, I hope to gain more insight on how I have been spending my free time. I expect to reflect upon the less productive times and make a change on how to spend my free time better. Injury to Society Injury to society includes delinquency and crime. When I was in high school, around 15 or 16 years old, I used to shoplift things from the store. While I did do these things out of boredom, I had mostly stolen things for the monetary value. My leisure time was spent mostly at the mall, with other friends who would steal as well. Eventually I did get caught, and fortunately I was let off with just a warning.
