Race in Amerca
Race, simple external differences linked to other complex internal differences, has historically created
issues in American society. Race and racial inequalities are one of the most vital issues confronting
contemporary U.S. society, explains Sociologist Ronald Takaki. In the past race has had both
biological and social implications across the country.
However, the video Race: The Power of Illusion presents significant evidence refuting the biological
theories of race. Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory instructor Scott Bronson and several high school
students from different ethnicities conducted personal genetic research exploring biological race
theory. Students typed their blood, compared skin tones and took DNA samples. After sending the
samples to a genetics lab, Bronson asked students whom they might expect to be more genetically
similar to in the workshop. The consensus of the students was that they would each be genetically
comparable to others in the group with similar physical attributes.
Noah, a white male expected to be similar to another white male in the group and Mr. Bronson. Two
other students, a male and female of African descent, believed they would similar despite their gender
differences. When the lab work came back, Mr. Bronson and the students evaluated the results and the
students were quite surprised. They discovered those students of African descent had more genetic
differences than the rest of the group combined. Supporting the student s findings

WAL MART CEO LEE SCOTT PRIORITIES CEO Lee Scott announced that Wal Mart was
launching a sweeping business sustainability strategy to dramatically reduce the company s impact on
the global environment and thus become the most competitive and innovative company in the world.
He argued that being a good steward of the environment and being profitable are not mutually
exclusive. They are one and the same. Scott also committed Wal Mart to three aspirational goals: To
be supplied 100 percent by renewable energy, to create zero waste, and to sell products that sustain our
resources and the environment. To meet those goals, Wal Mart would seek to transform its supply
chain, in cooperation with suppliers and environmental nonprofit organizations. In addition, Mr. Scott
said that as the largest buyer of manufactured goods in the world, Wal Mart has the power to
encourage its more than 60,000 suppliers to adopt environmentally conscious business practices. Our
most direct impact will be on our suppliers, he said. If we request that our suppliers use packaging that
has less waste or materials that can be recycled, everybody who buys from that manufacturer will end
up using that package. As an example of how the company can encourage better packaging, Mr. Scott
said he would ensure prime

Pizza Us Expansion Into The World Of Delivery Essay
Pizza USA: Expansion into the World of Delivery Customer service is an important aspect to creating
and maintaining a successful operation and should be at the forefront for all business managers and
their operations. The principal thought is that in order for your business to grow and be successful, the
business must recognize what the customers want and find a way to deliver it, possibly even literally.
In this study, Pizza USA will evaluate the various aspects of implementing a delivery system to an
established restaurant. To gain new and repeat customers, the services offered must go the extra mile
to ensure that all of these needs, and maybe even a few extras too, are not only met but exceed the
expectations. The best way to determine what a customer wants, needs, and desires is to gain
responses from said customers and apply those with the management techniques and procedures to
make for the optimal delivery experience.
Delivery Requests from Customers Transitioning and adapting to a new service model as part of the
daily business operations can be overwhelming. To make the transition easier, it is best to keep in
mind that the customer and their needs are at the center of each choice, action, and result (Jacobs
Chase, 2014). As the majority of people have been customers at one point or another, it is simple to
think of additional or original ways to enhance a delivery experience. The following are key features
and desires that customers would like to see

Heat Capacity Lab Report
This experiment was dealing with the heating of water with different types and sizes of metals. In it
you had to deal with heat capacity. Heat capacity is the amount of heat (normally expressed in
calories, kilocalories, or joules) to raise a substances temperature by one (1) degree (normally
expressed in Celsius or Kelvin). With the answer expressed in units of thermal energy per degree
temperature. With substances having certain specific dimensions you can use to types of heat capacity,
Molar Heat Capacity and Specific Heat Capacity.
Molar Heat Capacity is the amount of heat needed to raise the heat, of one (1) mole of a substance, by
one degree Celsius. This is expressed in joules per moles per degrees Celsius (or Kelvin). For example

Because the amount of heat lost by one substances should be equal to the amount of heat gained by
another substance. This would be very nice when conducting experiments involving temperature.
However, the calorimeter absorbs some of the heat that comes from the reaction. Because of this,
when using a coffee cup calorimeter like in this experiment it must be taken into account that the data
may not be one hundred percent accurate.
The purpose of this experiment was to find the specific heat of zinc (Zn) metal. This was done
performing the experiment. Using a coffee cup calorimeter filled with water you took the temperature
of the water both before and after it was placed into the calorimeter. After taking the metal out it was
massed. And finally calculations were done to find the specific heat of zinc (Zn) metal.
This may seem like an easy experiment on the outside but their are some terms that may not be know.

types of energy. Joules also play a role in calories. A calorie (in this case a gram calorie)is the amount
of heat needed to raise one (1) gram of water one (1) degree. One (1) calorie (c) is equal to 4.1858

Pension Policy Research Paper
Pension problems are unfortunately becoming the new norm for American workers. In Dallas, the
fund for retired firefighters and police officers is underfunded by $5 billion. [1] After hearing that the
fund would be empty within the next 20 years, retirees pulled out $230 million in just six weeks.
Across the nation, the average home has a pension debt of $19,000 for public pensions.
The pension problem is not confined to just Dallas. In Los Angeles, public employee pensions have
led to significant debt. The city s three retirement systems have a combined debt of $15 billion. [2]
The city has added $2 billion to the system over the last two years, but the fund is still only 78 percent
full. Increased retirement expenses and overly optimistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Partnership Is An Arrangement Or A Form Of Business...
Partnership is an arrangement or a form of business organization in which two or more parties come
together to achieve specified economic objective. Each such party to the organization is known as
partner . The relationship between / among partners is governed by the partnership agreement. Some
of the common clauses relating to partnership are capital, profit/loss sharing ratio, tenor, object,
inclusion of new partner, retirement / exclusion of existing partner, dissolution of partnership etc.
Partnership is a separate entity, which has its own existence from its partners.
Partnership is not a taxable entity. A partnership is a form of business that works as a medium through
which its profits, losses, deductions, and credits pass directly to its partners. In turn, each partner
reports individually his /her share of the partnership s profits, loss, deductions etc. in his/her individual
tax return. This may result in increase or decrease in personal tax liability of a partner. Hence, for tax
reporting and payment purpose, a partnership is treated as an aggregate of individuals, who provide
capital and services to a joint business organization, rather than as a separate taxable entity.
Partnership Contribution:
Each partner brings in money (cash) / property or some intangible rights to contribute in the
partnership, in lieu of interest in the partnership. At the time of contribution, the partners need to
compute the tax basis of contribution for him and/or for partnership.

1. Reliability in transportation is a major strategy in the California Department of Transportation s

Queen Elizabeth II Research Paper
The Devotion of Her Majesty There are two types of people in this world: those that lead, and those
that follow. A leader should be someone that people are willing to stand behind; a leader should be
strong and know their impact on the world. As Queen Elizabeth II said herself, I know of no single
formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal
and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their
insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together (BrainyQuote) . A leader should be
able to stand as his or her own unique person; she should, however, always be responsible, involved
with her peers, reliable, and be able to handle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The job of the queen is to guide her people, while remaining anonymous to her own opinions. This
ideal is especially prominent when it comes to politics. A queen has never revealed much about her
political opinion before Queen Elizabeth II, and some believe that it is a good thing to remain private
about these beliefs. Last year, however, the Queen openly stated some negative opinions about
Chinese officials; people were both outraged and offended by her remarks. As Maria Puente with USA
Today states: So when she was overheard at a garden party Tuesday criticizing Chinese officials for
being very rude during a state visit to Britain last year, her remark was huge news in the United
Kingdom because it was unprecedented, uncharacteristic and undiplomatic (Puente) . Political
opinions have been existent with the Queen on multiple other occasions, including remarks on
Scotland and Brexit. These remarks have many people believing she is not a fit ruler. Although she did
make these claims, they do not make her a bad leader. If anything, Queen Elizabeth II has benefitted
from sharing her political opinions, as it has made her even more relatable than before. She shows that
she is human, too, and has more to her than just her title. Her popularity has increased since her
political views have spread, making her more united with her followers than ever before. People who

Beowulf Heroic Qualities
Beowulf, the hero of the epic Beowulf, was a great king and leader, from youth to his declining years.
He displays his heroism in three separate conflicts, which take place in two different phases of his life.
Despite these challenging tasks, Beowulf exhibits unique heroic qualities throughout his youth and
declining years that make him a great king and leader of the Geats. Since his youth as a great warrior
lasts so long, the epic portrays Beowulf in three different feats of strength and courage. His first feat
was in his swimming match with Breca. Unferth, jealous of Beowulf s popularity with his fellow
Danes, brings up Beowulf s loss in a swimming match to Breca. Unferth states that Beowulf will face
defeat against Grendel once again as no one has ever outlasted an entire night against Grendel. (37)
Beowulf replies that he lost the swimming match against Breca because he was interrupted by the sea
beasts. He was swimming shoulder to shoulder... for five nights (37) with Breca but landed on the
coast of Finland later than Breca because he had to slay nine sea monsters when he got pulled down.
He mocks Unferth afterwards, saying that Unferth or Breca would both be unable to protect
themselves against the sea monsters. Beowulf s second great feat was mortally wounding Grendel.
The Danes were scared from the terror and murder that Grendel had inflicted on them. Beowulf, with
a confident persona, waits and grabs Grendel harder than anything he had ever encountered in any

The Relational Model For Data Storage
Abstract
The relational model, which uses predefined tabular relations to store data, has remained the
preeminent model for data storage since it was first implemented in the early 1980s. However, due to
the proliferation of the Internet, today data flows in and out of organizations quickly, and most of this
data is in a semi structured state that is designed for communication over http. It is difficult to fit this
complex data into a flat two dimensional array. For that reason, it is imperative that companies have
the ability to store data in a semi structured format compatible with modern network communications
as well as various platforms and devices. The market has realized this and responded with document
stores that support formats, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the proliferation of the Internet in the late twentieth century has changed the database
landscape rapidly and drastically.
Today, interconnected networks around the globe stream data to a profusion of devices that range from
powerful mainframe supercomputers, and massive grids of commodity machines to smartphones and
tiny single board computers embedded in home appliances. Most of the flow of data is done through
the Internet or over other large TCP/IP networks that utilize HTTP communications. For that reason,
most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed not for storage in a relational database,
but for communication over HTTP. This data often arrives and leaves in a voluminous stream. It is
therefore difficult for organizations to convert the data quickly to and from a format that is conforms
to the rigid tabular structure of a relational schema.
Support for semi structured data is integral to the collection and storage of data in the Internet age.
While the relational model is sill a good long term storage solution, organizations must be able to
store and query semi structured data that is in a format compatible with HTTP communication because
almost all modern devices use this medium of communication. While XML can serve as a solution to
this problem, JSON, a condensed format that is based on the well known JavaScript language, has
many benefits over XML which I will

The Punishment Of The American Prison System
Whenever you imagine prison, you think up ideas and violent images that you have seen in the movies
or on TV. Outdated clichés consisting of men eating stale bread and drinking dirty water are only a
small fraction of the number of horrible, yet just occurrences which are stereotypical of everyday life
in prison. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about the punishment
which our nation inflicts on those who violate its more serious laws that keeps people frightened just
enough to lead a law abiding life. Despite it s success in keeping dangerous offenders off the streets,
the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of restoring criminals to being
productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and wastes our precious tax dollars.
As children, most people learn obedience through punishment. When we do something wrong , one or
several privileges are taken away by our parents. Depending on the severity of a mistake, such
punishment may last for a very short time or in some cases it may even be permanent by nature. Many
parents inflict a common punishment on their young children of not allowing them to watch television
for a certain amount of time which is usually measured in days or in weeks. Such disciplinary methods
often prove to be positive learning experiences which teach us right from wrong and instill us with
values which should prevent us from doing it again. Similarly, the prison system

Justice in Romero Essay
Justice in Romero The influential and gripping film, Romero , directed by John Duigan, portrays the
life and death of Archbishop Oscar Romero. The movie shows the world through the eyes of the El
Salvadorian people during the 1980 s, when poverty and military rule flourished over the people. The
country of El Salvador was run by an elite group of few who controlled most of the power and money,
leaving the majority of the people deprived and powerless. This imbalance in the social system left
much of the people under oppression, constantly controlled by the corrupt government and even
sometimes persecuted when they tried to speak out. The church was a witness to the violations of
human rights and this ruthless behavior by the El ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first this is what Romero did, he preached to be peacemakers and not to revolt. But after the
government shot their weapons into crowds indiscriminately at a worship ceremony held outside,
killing a few people including a priest who was also Romero s close friend, was when Romero begins
to rebuke the government and lead the struggle for justice and human rights in the country. Romero
develops into a man who rocks the boat. In that, meaning he organized rallies and masses that brought
the people together causing anger upon the government. He leads a peasant march into a church that is
occupied by soldiers in order to perform mass, and also offends and defies the El Salvadorian
president. Throughout the movie, Romero is faced with challenge after challenge from the military
and government, but through it all he continued to speak to his people and praising the word of god.
The film came to a tragic ending as Archbishop Romero was shot by a hired assassin during mass.
Although martyred for his beliefs, his spirit lived on in the Salvadorian people. Father Romero was a
very influential figure. Inclined himself by the masses of poverty stricken individuals harmed by the
government, Romero was a man who was clearly in pursuit of social justice. The first step he took
towards the situation was assessing the real life poverty and oppression that was at hand. Romero
along with the church examined what was

Essay on The Evolution of Speech
The Evolution of Speech
The purpose of this essay is to identify the evolutionary evidence of speech. The articles reviewed in
this paper affirm the evidence of evolution of speech. Much is unknown about the evolution of speech,
however, fossil evidence points to adaptations for speech appearing between 1.5 million and 500,000
years ago. Fossil evidence for the evolution of speech is shown in the earliest hominins to one of our
well known ancestors, the homo erectus. There are differences between bone structure and hard tissues
of living modern humans to those of chimpanzees and bonobos (Boer, 2005). Speech is a unique trait
that only humans so far have developed. This trait was most likely a prerequisite for the development
of culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 1
As seen, the human larynx is lower than that of the apes. The larynx in most mammals is usually
located high enough to be used in the nasal passages, enabling simultaneous breathing and
swallowing. This development can also be seen in small infants. As humans age, the larynx begins to
slowly descend down to its final position in its adult stage, which it reaches in three to four years
(Fitch, 2000). A similar descent of the larynx most likely occurred over the course of human evolution.
Speech itself cannot be fossilized, however there are anatomical adaptations that are related to speech
that have been fossilized. Although the soft tissue of the vocal tract does not fossilize well, there is one
bone in the larynx that does fossilize well, the hyoid bone. This bone appears to be the same bone in
Neanderthals just as in those found in modern humans (Abry, 1998). Although it is difficult to find
evidence of speech, other sources of evidence have become available that demonstrate the absence or
presence of speech. Increased tongue movements and control are needed for speech and it is expected
that the nerves of the tongue and the diaphragm are larger in humans than in of other species,
providing help with the articulation of speech (Arby, 1998). As the nerves pass through the canals in
skulls, this can be measured by the size of the relevant holes in

Impact Of Cinema On The United Kingdom
In the immediate post war period, cinema going was at an all time high as almost every town and
village in the United Kingdom had a local cinema with one screen. Economic recession, the popularity

venues. Attitudes to leisure and spending changed as there seemed to be much more on offer such as

Analysis Of A Simple Heart
Taneka .D.G. Evelyn
ENG 212 042
Dec.12th, 2011
The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in
literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave
Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle
and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and
Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France.
The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It
states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Évëque for half a century
(2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why
was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to
envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the
words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader.
Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed
description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite
was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak
to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the
plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the
Evelyn 2
log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her
hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important
to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a
woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to
the house.
Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end.
According to

A Priority based Compromise Fuzzy Goal Programming Approach for Channel Allocation Problem
Abstract
Some companies produce and sell all of their own products through their own internal channels and
some use multiple external channels to distribute goods to consumers. Many authors have presented
mathematical model for channel allocation problem. Tsai et al (2008) presented a mixed integer fuzzy
goal programming model for channel allocation problem considering three different fuzzy goals. In
this paper we use the weighted root power mean method of aggregation for obtaining a priority based
solution of channel allocation problem where preferences are defined in terms of weights.
Keywords: Channel Allocation problem, Compromise fuzzy goal programming, multiobjective
optimization, weighted goal programming.
1. Introduction
Firms distribute their product through multiple distribution channels which include direct and indirect
channels. The channel in which distribution function is grouped by a supplier and one or more of
intermediaries, is known as an indirect channel. However, a direct channel distributes products from
producers to the users directly without introducing any intermediaries. Many reasons can be presented
for the firms to adopt multiple channel strategy because advances in information and manufacturing
technology have encouraged multiple channels. However, multiple channels for distribution of the
products in the market arise many challenges and one of them is the

The Lyrical Novel Border Town by Shen Congwen
A lyrical novel has unique features such that its words are directed to the reader, appealing to the
reader s emotions and feelings, while depicting a story which complements these emotions that is
induced upon the reader. The idea behind a lyrical novel can be said to be a contradiction novels focus
on the explanation of the story plot, while lyrical novels are more about moral decisions, the
expression of themes and how the surroundings can be integrated to show the character s mood.
Hence, it can be said that it is the character s emotions that drives the development of the plot.
Shen Congwen s Border Town can indeed be considered to be such a lyrical novel. Border Town was
depicted to be a dreamlike town, with its citizens enjoying peace generation after generation, like the
flowing water in the river next to the town. The white pagoda stands tall, unwavering, symbolizing
peacefulness and tranquillity. Border Town is widely considered to be a utopian like story, with an
interesting love twist, where two men are after the affections of the lead character.
There are several features that resemble those of a lyrical novel. In the beginning of the story, a
passage depicts the peacefulness of the town by the use of the setting of the town, with objects that are
normally associated with beauty and serenity. Such was seen in, there were peach blossoms there was
sure to be a home, and walls of yellow earth and pitch black tiles...in harmony with the surroundings

make sure that they have this spring fling in a safe environment. He also speaks about rituals and
values and I think it relates to the spring fling. I think it relates because we wear the school colors to
promote pride and to show that we value the school that we attend. Everyone is in attendance so that s
how we know who is valued and respected in both regards to the student and the staff. Which is what
Collins was saying in his essay the group must assemble which is what we do when the spring fling is
held every year. This event shows that we are a unity and that we are equal in our own Phoenix
community. You have grades mixing with other grade, teachers mixing with other teachers and it s the
maybe only time you see the principle or leader of the school relaxed and enjoying himself. This
spring fling is the tradition.
A spring fling is an event that all four years of my high school I really enjoyed. It was something that
most individuals and even myself really looked forward to everywhere. I looked forward to meeting
new students, teachers and just being able to feel the unity. It felt as If we were one big tight family.

because school is where I spent 8 hours of my day. In that school, I felt the solidarity that Collins

The Corruption Of Cairns Police
Few doubted the endemic corruption of Cairns police in the early years of the 20th century, with the
local cops so notoriously crooked even newspapers in far off Brisbane reported on their
transgressions.
When solicitor Percy Le Vaux represented property owner Peter Lumberg in an action against a watch
house constable for filching his watch during Lumberg s overnight incarceration, the Brisbane Truth
saw light at the end of the tunnel, believing this spark would ignite the fire that brought the entire
criminal edifice tumbling down. So it has come, at last, announced the paper. However, a magistrate
dismissed the case, and nothing changed.
Undeterred, Truth continued to publish veiled allegations that the police took bribes from criminal
overlords whose Sachs St enterprises included illegal gambling, sly grog shops, opium dens and
whore houses. Consequently, intent on quietening the vexatious scandal sheet, the Police
Commissioner transferred north Inspector Durham, a senior officer of impeccable credentials, but
again, nothing changed.
Until 5th September 1905.
On that date, a different inspector, the Inspector of Nuisances, a council officer, discovered the
aforementioned Lumberg hacked to death in the bush on the outskirts of town. Undoubtedly a stingy
old bugger, the unmarried and wealthy Lumberg invested money made in the gold rush years in
houses, which he rented out, though, not caring for the luxury of a house himself, he instead lived in a
shed. In

Outline Of Alexis De Tocqueville
1.) Alexis de Tocqueville viewed equality as the greatest political and social idea in his era. He was a
French sociologist and political theorist who traveled to the United States to study its social ethics. As
one who studied our country from an outside country, he thought that America provided the most
profound example of equality within society. In his piece, he says, But one also finds in the human
heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to want to bring the strong down to their
level, and which reduces men to preferring equality in servitude to inequality in freedom. Alexis de
Toqueville means that men want equality, however one may do whatever it takes to achieve his

Individualism in humans was consdered dangerous in society because once a population is unwilling
to contribute to society, it could cause a crumble in the system and lead to a harder situation for all
members of the area. Those who are individualists are unwilling to bond with the rest of society and
make it difficult for functions to run properly. 3.) When in America, Alexis de Tocqueville made
notable observations about the forming of assosiations within society. He states that Americans of all
ages, all conditions, all minds constantly unite. De Tocqueville meant that those who are
individualized seemed to become lonely and have less purpose to work with others to better the world
for all. He noted that there were many different kinds of associations, including religions, book
distributions, hospitals, and schools that had associations within themselves. He also notes
relationships between republic and democratic associations and their impacts on politics. 4.) Alexis de
Toqueville says that political associations may ultimately crash if society leans toward isolation and
fails to preserve their freedom.

For the ship s interiors, production designer Peter Lamont s team looked for artifacts from the era.
However, the newness of the ship meant every prop had to be made from scratch. Fox acquired 40
acres of waterfront south of Playas de Rosarito in Mexico, and began building a new studio on May
31, 1996. A horizon tank of seventeen million gallons was built for the exterior of the reconstructed

Lying, By Jeremy Bentham
I am going to argue why lying is immoral no matter who you might be lying to, friends, family, and
even someone you do not know. This is immoral because even though lying to someone may bring
relief or happiness it s still hiding the truth from that person. Hiding something they deserve to know
even though it may hurt them may also be a form of lying. There are many situations where lying may
end friendships, relationships, or even tare families apart because most people want to know the truth
no matter how harsh, because eventually the truth may come out. In addition to hiding information,
there are also other forms of lying. Telling someone false information as well as withholding
information are forms of lying. The worst part about telling a lie is that the more you do it the more
comfortable one may become. Lying becomes a habit to many people, a habit they have a hard time
breaking. Lying can simply be defined in one word, deception. Jeremy Bentham who is a British
philosopher in the 1700 s and early 1800 s believed in the principle of utility otherwise known as
utilitarianism. Jeremy Bentham thinks it s permissible to tell a small lie because in the long run
Bentham is looking for the ultimate amount of happiness. Bentham believes in the greatest happiness
for the greatest number. As long as an act brings more happiness than disappointment then that act is
moral. One situation may be three friends found out something that their other friend does not know

Is Altruism Exist
Altruism could be defined as a moral tenet which dictates that individuals have an ethical
responsibility to help or benefit others, even at the sacrifice of one s own self interest, if required.
Altruism as a word is originally derived from the Italian word alturi , which in turn was derived from
the Latin word alteri , meaning other people (Ciciloni, 1838). In simple terms, altruism is the concept
of concern and care for the well being of others and the presence of a continuous desire to help them.
However, it has been mystifying philosophers and scientists for centuries as it is understood and
explained differently in terms of sociology, neurobiology, and religion, although there is a common
denominator between the three principles as they all highlight certain human nature act or a typical
social behavior among humans. There is a myriad of studies and concrete proof within the confines of
the realms of the principles I mentioned above which give grounds for the idea that true altruism does
not exist.
First, altruism has been continuously discussed in sociology as Auguste Comte, who is often regarded
as the founder of modern sociology, is sometimes credited with originating the concept of Altruism.
To begin, Sociobiologists argue that altruistic behavior has its roots in self interest, the unconscious
desire to protect one s genetic heritage (sociologyindex, nd). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But it is becoming more evident that genuine altruism does not really exist, thanks to several elements
such as the kin selection theory, the recent understanding of specific areas of our brain which relates
directly to giving people and also the religious aspect of the issue. In a word, a good deal of evidence
and proof which exists within the domains of sociology, neurobiology and religion attests that true
altruism does not

The Role Of Internal And External Influences On Students...
While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be
made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to
selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and
external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the
interview sample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the
units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique
known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the
interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student,
or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in
university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal
sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the researcher
to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their hypothesis. Rather
than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic sampling allows for the
research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample (Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424).
Keeping the requirements in mind, the participants in the sample were chosen

The death of Willy Loman was remembered by few. He was mourned not because of his tragic death

  • 3. Race in Amerca Race, simple external differences linked to other complex internal differences, has historically created issues in American society. Race and racial inequalities are one of the most vital issues confronting contemporary U.S. society, explains Sociologist Ronald Takaki. In the past race has had both biological and social implications across the country. However, the video Race: The Power of Illusion presents significant evidence refuting the biological theories of race. Cold Springs Harbor Laboratory instructor Scott Bronson and several high school students from different ethnicities conducted personal genetic research exploring biological race theory. Students typed their blood, compared skin tones and took DNA samples. After sending the samples to a genetics lab, Bronson asked students whom they might expect to be more genetically similar to in the workshop. The consensus of the students was that they would each be genetically comparable to others in the group with similar physical attributes. Noah, a white male expected to be similar to another white male in the group and Mr. Bronson. Two other students, a male and female of African descent, believed they would similar despite their gender differences. When the lab work came back, Mr. Bronson and the students evaluated the results and the students were quite surprised. (Dickenson, 2013) WAL MART CEO LEE SCOTT PRIORITIES CEO Lee Scott announced that Wal Mart was launching a sweeping business sustainability strategy to dramatically reduce the company s impact on the global environment and thus become the most competitive and innovative company in the world. He argued that being a good steward of the environment and being profitable are not mutually exclusive. They are one and the same. Scott also committed Wal Mart to three aspirational goals: To be supplied 100 percent by renewable energy, to create zero waste, and to sell products that sustain our resources and the environment. To meet those goals, Wal Mart would seek to transform its supply chain, in cooperation with suppliers and environmental nonprofit organizations. In addition, Mr. Scott said that as the largest buyer of manufactured goods in the world, Wal Mart has the power to encourage its more than 60,000 suppliers to adopt environmentally conscious business practices. Our most direct impact will be on our suppliers, he said. If we request that our suppliers use packaging that has less waste or materials that can be recycled, everybody who buys from that manufacturer will end up using that package. Partnership is an arrangement or a form of business organization in which two or more parties come together to achieve specified economic objective. Each such party to the organization is known as partner . The relationship between / among partners is governed by the partnership agreement. Some of the common clauses relating to partnership are capital, profit/loss sharing ratio, tenor, object, inclusion of new partner, retirement / exclusion of existing partner, dissolution of partnership etc. Partnership is a separate entity, which has its own existence from its partners. Partnership is not a taxable entity. A partnership is a form of business that works as a medium through which its profits, losses, deductions, and credits pass directly to its partners. In turn, each partner reports individually his /her share of the partnership s profits, loss, deductions etc. in his/her individual tax return. This may result in increase or decrease in personal tax liability of a partner. Hence, for tax reporting and payment purpose, a partnership is treated as an aggregate of individuals, who provide capital and services to a joint business organization, rather than as a separate taxable entity. Partnership Contribution: Each partner brings in money (cash) / property or some intangible rights to contribute in the partnership, in lieu of interest in the partnership. A leader should be someone that people are willing to stand behind; a leader should be strong and know their impact on the world. As Queen Elizabeth II said herself, I know of no single formula for success. But over the years I have observed that some attributes of leadership are universal and are often about finding ways of encouraging people to combine their efforts, their talents, their insights, their enthusiasm and their inspiration to work together (BrainyQuote) . A queen has never revealed much about her political opinion before Queen Elizabeth II, and some believe that it is a good thing to remain private about these beliefs. Last year, however, the Queen openly stated some negative opinions about Chinese officials; people were both outraged and offended by her remarks. As Maria Puente with USA Today states: So when she was overheard at a garden party Tuesday criticizing Chinese officials for being very rude during a state visit to Britain last year, her remark was huge news in the United Kingdom because it was unprecedented, uncharacteristic and undiplomatic (Puente) . Political opinions have been existent with the Queen on multiple other occasions, including remarks on Scotland and Brexit. These remarks have many people believing she is not a fit ruler. Although she did make these claims, they do not make her a bad leader. Since his youth as a great warrior lasts so long, the epic portrays Beowulf in three different feats of strength and courage. His first feat was in his swimming match with Breca. Unferth, jealous of Beowulf s popularity with his fellow Danes, brings up Beowulf s loss in a swimming match to Breca. The Relational Model For Data Storage Abstract The relational model, which uses predefined tabular relations to store data, has remained the preeminent model for data storage since it was first implemented in the early 1980s. However, due to the proliferation of the Internet, today data flows in and out of organizations quickly, and most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed for communication over http. It is difficult to fit this complex data into a flat two dimensional array. However, the proliferation of the Internet in the late twentieth century has changed the database landscape rapidly and drastically. Today, interconnected networks around the globe stream data to a profusion of devices that range from powerful mainframe supercomputers, and massive grids of commodity machines to smartphones and tiny single board computers embedded in home appliances. Most of the flow of data is done through the Internet or over other large TCP/IP networks that utilize HTTP communications. For that reason, most of this data is in a semi structured state that is designed not for storage in a relational database, but for communication over HTTP. This data often arrives and leaves in a voluminous stream. It is therefore difficult for organizations to convert the data quickly to and from a format that is conforms to the rigid tabular structure of a relational schema. Support for semi structured data is integral to the collection and storage of data in the Internet age. While the relational model is sill a good long term storage solution, organizations must be able to store and query semi structured data that is in a format compatible with HTTP communication because almost all modern devices use this medium of communication. Perhaps it could be a combination of your upbringing, horrific ideas about the punishment which our nation inflicts on those who violate its more serious laws that keeps people frightened just enough to lead a law abiding life. Despite it s success in keeping dangerous offenders off the streets, the American prison system fails in fulfilling its original design of restoring criminals to being productive members of society, it is also extremely expensive and wastes our precious tax dollars. As children, most people learn obedience through punishment. When we do something wrong , one or several privileges are taken away by our parents. Depending on the severity of a mistake, such punishment may last for a very short time or in some cases it may even be permanent by nature. Many parents inflict a common punishment on their young children of not allowing them to watch television for a certain amount of time which is usually measured in days or in weeks. Such disciplinary methods often prove to be positive learning experiences which teach us right from wrong and instill us with values which should prevent us from doing it again. Fossil evidence for the evolution of speech is shown in the earliest hominins to one of our well known ancestors, the homo erectus. As humans age, the larynx begins to slowly descend down to its final position in its adult stage, which it reaches in three to four years (Fitch, 2000). A similar descent of the larynx most likely occurred over the course of human evolution. • 24. Analysis Of A Simple Heart Taneka .D.G. Evelyn ENG 212 042 Dec.12th, 2011 The realist period was a time of the nineteenth century in which authors, artists and other people in literature provided in depth accounts of events that occurred during that time period. In Gustave Flaubert s A Simple Heart, he explored the lives of two fictional women of different classes (middle and lower) during the realist period. Through characters like Madame Aubain, a rich woman and Felicite, her poor, gentle maid, he provided the reader with a sneak peek of nineteenth century France. The first sentence of A Simple Heart gives the reader an ironic insight of the protagonist Felicite. It states Madame Aubain s servant Felicite was the envy of the ladies of Pont l Évëque for half a century (2208, A Simple Heart).By giving a brief synopsis of the protagonist, it makes the reader wonder why was she the envy of the other women around her. She was serving another woman. What was there to envy? Flaubert must have done this on purpose to get the reader to put a price on happiness. Even the words used to describe the other women ladies would bring a great deal of doubt to the reader. Flaubert introduced the seemingly simpler character, Felicite first, with a rather vivid and detailed description. He portrayed her as a woman that was different from the others. Being a maid, Felicite was not expected to be complex and Flaubert did her much justice. He described She rose at daybreak to be in time for Mass, and worked till evening without stopping. Then, when dinner was over, the plates and dishes were in order, and the door shut fast, she thrust the Evelyn 2 log under the ashes and went to sleep in front of the heath with a rosary in her hand (2209, A Simple Heart). He made her seem very uniformed, as though she had nothing important to do. She appeared religious and organized but lacked that complexity that comes with being a woman. The routine was the same and therefore proved that a woman of lower class was bounded to the house. Felicite became so accustomed to her routine that she decided to stay in the house to the very end. According to www.docshare.com, She grew old and more useless as a direct parallel to what was happening to the house

  • 31. The Corruption Of Cairns Police Few doubted the endemic corruption of Cairns police in the early years of the 20th century, with the local cops so notoriously crooked even newspapers in far off Brisbane reported on their transgressions. When solicitor Percy Le Vaux represented property owner Peter Lumberg in an action against a watch house constable for filching his watch during Lumberg s overnight incarceration, the Brisbane Truth saw light at the end of the tunnel, believing this spark would ignite the fire that brought the entire criminal edifice tumbling down. So it has come, at last, announced the paper. However, a magistrate dismissed the case, and nothing changed. Undeterred, Truth continued to publish veiled allegations that the police took bribes from criminal overlords whose Sachs St enterprises included illegal gambling, sly grog shops, opium dens and whore houses. Consequently, intent on quietening the vexatious scandal sheet, the Police Commissioner transferred north Inspector Durham, a senior officer of impeccable credentials, but again, nothing changed. Until 5th September 1905. On that date, a different inspector, the Inspector of Nuisances, a council officer, discovered the aforementioned Lumberg hacked to death in the bush on the outskirts of town. Undoubtedly a stingy old bugger, the unmarried and wealthy Lumberg invested money made in the gold rush years in houses, which he rented out, though, not caring for the luxury of a house himself, he instead lived in a shed. We learn of the climate and poverty that makes the inhabitants of Acqua Traverse victims of circumstance, and ultimately drives them to persecute other people in the continuous pursuit of money and exceptional livelihoods. Clearly, Michele is not the only victim in Ammaniti s text, but it is through his endless determination to restore justice that ultimately demonstrates his morality, and separates him from everyone else in the story. Set in that damned summer of 1978 in a small southern town in Italy, we immediately witness the umelenting landscape in which the members of Acqua Traverse are bound by. • 33. Outline Of Alexis De Tocqueville 1.) Alexis de Tocqueville viewed equality as the greatest political and social idea in his era. He was a French sociologist and political theorist who traveled to the United States to study its social ethics. As one who studied our country from an outside country, he thought that America provided the most profound example of equality within society. In his piece, he says, But one also finds in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to want to bring the strong down to their level, and which reduces men to preferring equality in servitude to inequality in freedom. Alexis de Toqueville means that men want equality, however one may do whatever it takes to achieve his highest goal. Individualism in humans was consdered dangerous in society because once a population is unwilling to contribute to society, it could cause a crumble in the system and lead to a harder situation for all members of the area. Those who are individualists are unwilling to bond with the rest of society and make it difficult for functions to run properly. 3.) When in America, Alexis de Tocqueville made notable observations about the forming of assosiations within society. He states that Americans of all ages, all conditions, all minds constantly unite. De Tocqueville meant that those who are individualized seemed to become lonely and have less purpose to work with others to better the world for all. He noted that there were many different kinds of associations, including religions, book distributions, hospitals, and schools that had associations within themselves. He also notes relationships between republic and democratic associations and their impacts on politics. 4.) For the ship s interiors, production designer Peter Lamont s team looked for artifacts from the era. However, the newness of the ship meant every prop had to be made from scratch. Fox acquired 40 acres of waterfront south of Playas de Rosarito in Mexico, and began building a new studio on May 31, 1996. A horizon tank of seventeen million gallons was built for the exterior of the reconstructed ship, providing 270 degrees of ocean view. (2011) This would then be used later in the computer generated version of the boat being broken in half and eventually sinking. Within was a fifty foot lifting platform for the ship to tilt during the sinking sequences. Towering above was a 162 feet (49 m) tall tower crane on 600 feet (180 m) of rail track, acting as a combined construction, lighting, and camera platform. The Titanic s sound effects contributed too much of the film s success and were responsible for two of the Oscar nominations and wins: Sound and Sound Effects Editing. The Titanic movie also won awards for Original dramatic score and Original song. A lot of the sound effects used in the process of getting the boat to sound like it was actually sinking were a bit tricky. They had old photographs they used to create replicas of just about everything the ship had in it. They then would twist and break the items to give the life like sounds of the ... • 35. Lying, By Jeremy Bentham I am going to argue why lying is immoral no matter who you might be lying to, friends, family, and even someone you do not know. This is immoral because even though lying to someone may bring relief or happiness it s still hiding the truth from that person. Hiding something they deserve to know even though it may hurt them may also be a form of lying. There are many situations where lying may end friendships, relationships, or even tare families apart because most people want to know the truth no matter how harsh, because eventually the truth may come out. In addition to hiding information, there are also other forms of lying. Telling someone false information as well as withholding information are forms of lying. The worst part about telling a lie is that the more you do it the more comfortable one may become. Lying becomes a habit to many people, a habit they have a hard time breaking. Lying can simply be defined in one word, deception. Jeremy Bentham who is a British philosopher in the 1700 s and early 1800 s believed in the principle of utility otherwise known as utilitarianism. Jeremy Bentham thinks it s permissible to tell a small lie because in the long run Bentham is looking for the ultimate amount of happiness. Bentham believes in the greatest happiness for the greatest number. As long as an act brings more happiness than disappointment then that act is moral. • 36. Is Altruism Exist Altruism could be defined as a moral tenet which dictates that individuals have an ethical responsibility to help or benefit others, even at the sacrifice of one s own self interest, if required. Altruism as a word is originally derived from the Italian word alturi , which in turn was derived from the Latin word alteri , meaning other people (Ciciloni, 1838). In simple terms, altruism is the concept of concern and care for the well being of others and the presence of a continuous desire to help them. However, it has been mystifying philosophers and scientists for centuries as it is understood and explained differently in terms of sociology, neurobiology, and religion, although there is a common denominator between the three principles as they all highlight certain human nature act or a typical social behavior among humans. There is a myriad of studies and concrete proof within the confines of the realms of the principles I mentioned above which give grounds for the idea that true altruism does not exist. First, altruism has been continuously discussed in sociology as Auguste Comte, who is often regarded as the founder of modern sociology, is sometimes credited with originating the concept of Altruism. To begin, Sociobiologists argue that altruistic behavior has its roots in self interest, the unconscious desire to protect one s genetic heritage (sociologyindex, nd). ... But it is becoming more evident that genuine altruism does not really exist, thanks to several elements such as the kin selection theory, the recent understanding of specific areas of our brain which relates directly to giving people and also the religious aspect of the issue. • 37. The Role Of Internal And External Influences On Students... While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the interview sample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student, or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the researcher to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their hypothesis. Rather than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic sampling allows for the research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample (Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424). Keeping the requirements in mind, the participants in the sample were chosen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was mourned not because of his tragic death but because of his despairing life. The Requiem scene in Death of a Salesman describes the ill attended funeral of Willy, the tragic hero who struggled to fulfill his vision of the American Dream. This scene brings closure to the play because the audience realizes that only in death is Willy able to accept the failure and false success that has plagued him and his family for years.
