Rhetorical Analysis Of Fears In Never Cry Wolf
Fears are the stories we tell ourselves Anonymous. In the book Never Cry Wolf (1963) the author
Farley Mowat uses many rhetorical strategies to illustrate to the reader that wolves are not bloodthirsty
beasts, but rather friendly, logical, and emotional animals that we have no reason to fear. People have
an instinctual adversity to predatory animals such as wolves and even though fear is a natural reaction
we should try to suppress it, and see wolves for what they really are. The people that the author met in
the Canadian north based their fears of wolves solely on stories passed down through generations. Of
all his strategies Mowat s most effective persuasive appeals were logos, personification, and tone.
Throughout the book Mowat uses logos to try and convince us of the wolves innocence in the
supposed vicious, blood thirsty killing of the caribou. Because he did not have the resources to
conduct a study on the nutrition of mice and and wolves ability to survive off of them, he conducted
an experiment on himself. He eats mice for his first period and and canned meat and fish for his
second. At the end of each tests himself and finds that his metabolic functions remained unimpaired
under a mouse regimen (113) which indicated that wolves could too. Mowat also witnessed wolves
picking sick and weak caribou and deer from a heard first hand. He followed a wolf pack across the
arctic tundra and saw them pass up many healthy looking herds and bucks without as much as a

Emotional Detachment in Soldier s Home Essay
A photo of Krebs during World War I shows him with a corporal and two German girls on the Rhine
River. One s first thought of this picture may be of a lighthearted sightseeing trip on leave from the
front. However, in the photograph, Krebs and the other corporal are described as too big for their
uniforms, the German girls as not beautiful, and the Rhine does not even appear in the photograph
(154). This is how Ernest Hemingway begins Soldier s Home, the story of a young war veteran named
Harold Krebs who has recently returned home. Everything that Krebs says and does is to make his life
as smooth and have as few complications as possible, more than likely a stark contrast to his life in
Europe.
Krebs is a detached being who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would like to have a girl, but doesn t want to go through the trouble of getting one. He feels that he
would need to lie to get one, and he doesn t want to lie anymore. He preferred the girls abroad, where
the language barrier took the politics and courting out of the picture, making things as simple as
possible.
Krebs lives a simple life in a simple town, and he wants to keep it that way. The war was complicated
enough, and now Krebs just wants to live without complications, commitments, or consequences. He
did not want any consequences ever again. He wanted to live alone without consequences (155).
Although this wish seems simple enough, breakfast at the Krebs family table will prove otherwise.
Krebs sister starts a conversation about indoor baseball that quickly becomes a conversation about
whether or not Krebs really loves his sister. We first see Krebs emotional detachment in his replies to
her eager questions about love between his sister and himself you bet, I don t know, sure, uh huh, and
maybe (157). During breakfast, his mother also mentions that she would like him to start working and
find a nice girl, and his father is willing to let him take out the family car to do so, but these actions
would only complicate his lifestyle. Krebs can hardly pay any attention at the breakfast table as his
mother talks about how much she has worried about him and prayed for him. He even

Why The Anti Equal Rights Amendment
Introduction This essay will explore the reasons why the anti Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970s
was successful in keeping the proposed amendment from being added to the Constitution. It starts
with a discussion of the process in congress and what it took for the amendment to even reach the
states for a vote, and the exact literature of the amendment. It continues by analyzing what caused the
movement for the ERA, successes of the feminist movement in the 1970s and leaders in the pro ERA
movement. The rest of the essay will discuss the Stop ERA campaign, its arguments against the
amendment and how it succeeded in garnering enough support to prevent passage of the amendment.
This subject is particularly important to discuss because our society continues to be riddled with
gender inequality and sexual discrimination. Though legislative change does not guarantee societal
change, it is certainly a necessary step, and the lack of an Equal Rights Amendment has put the issue
of sexism in the United States on the backburner. It is necessary to examine the origins of the failure
of the Equal Rights Amendment in order to fully understand what is holding the United States back as
a country and what can be done to move forward and make meaningful changes in how we perceive
gender and sexuality. Passing an Amendment In order to pass an Amendment to the Constitution of the
United States of America, it must first be proposed by either Congress with a two thirds majority vote

Essay On The Causes Of The Southern Rebellion
The Civil War, often referred to as The War of the Southern Rebellion, was one of the bloodiest battles
in the history of the United States, causing over 600,000 deaths. Although there were several causes
which led up to this brutal war, one of the major causes was due to conflict between the northern and
southern states over the expansion of slavery and sectionalism. Both of these geographical locations
had drifted apart in their ideal views and ways of life. The south felt slavery was justifiable, and their
agrarian economy depended upon slave labor. Meanwhile, the north forbade slavery and relied more
upon machine age economy. Nonetheless, massive American casualties occurred over this four year
battle, which eventually led to the abolishment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their method gave them a huge economic advantage in agriculture, as they could not keep their vast
wealth without a workforce they did not have to pay. They defended slavery because there was no
other alternative for them. It was argued that the Federal Government did not have the authority to
make the decision to abolish slavery and that it should be up to the state government to decide.
Owning slaves became a means of success for southerners who were eager for wealth, often times
resulting in official and political power as well. The south was so dependent on the blood, sweat and
tears of slaves that they were willing to go to war. While the demand for slaves increased, the north
developed technology that would not only counteract slavery, but transform the nation for years to
come. The technological advances aided to agriculture and industry through textile mills, steam
engines, railroads, and canals. With industry flourishing, the north rapidly produced two billion dollars
worth of goods, and later became home to the Industrial Revolution. With the recent change in
economy and technology, slavery became not only a political but moral reform issue as

Summary Of The Bitter Pill
The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as to
why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors,
and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and
gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United States spent more money on
healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price
tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on
healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system
produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the
charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per
year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the
countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one
pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many
similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small
portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often
asked to pay excessive prices.
Strengths
Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it
still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the
major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some
technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay,
or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional
patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to receive their test
results sooner or on the estimated arrival date.
Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions
such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard

Relationship Between Honey And Bees
The relationship between flowers and bees is that they both benefit each other. The benefit that the
Bee has of the flower is the Bee pollinate it, which they don t do on purpose, but has they go from
flower to flower pollen falls on the flower on their way back to the bees hive.
The flower benefits the Bee because the flower produces pollen which the Bee uses as food.
Pollen and honey are the only food bees eat. The relationship between the bees and flowers evolved
through co
evolution when a Bee accidentally landed on a flower and found sugar and since then bees
have been relying on the flowers for food and the flower has been relying on the
Bee to pollinate it. They have no harmful effects on each other, they help each other a lot and

Behavior Disorders And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity...
Behavior disorder is defined as Any of various forms of behavior that are considered inappropriate by
members of the social group to which an individual belongs. (The American Heritage Stedman s
Medical Dictionary, 2015) Due to its broad definition, methods of identification, diagnosis, and
treatments are varied and controversial. After my son was diagnosed with Sensory Processing
Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in November of 2012, I recognized a stigma
within the community surrounding behavior disorders that made it difficult to find the appropriate
support for my son and my family. This paper will discuss the causes of behavior disorders, methods
for proper identification, and problems that can arise in the home, school, and community of a child
with a behavior disorder. Behavior disorders vary in symptoms and name, and can be divided into
several classifications, including anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, emotional disorders,
dissociative disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. In addition to Sensory Processing
Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Autism fall under the
behavior umbrella. Like many other mental illnesses, direct causes of these disorders are hard to
pinpoint. Although the exact cause of most mental illnesses is not known, it is becoming clear through
research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of biological, psychological and

Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet
The most common approach is revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is the act of a character feeling the
need for revenge. The character does achieve the goal of revenge, but typically causes a tragedy by
dying himself or causing other to die in the process. Hamlet goes through his own internal conflict and
takes a long time to avenge his father s murder. Glyn Austen provides a view that Hamlet s revenge is
more orchestrated by his enemies than by himself. (Glyn 1) This argument is supported through many
parts of the play. Through Hamlet s soliloquies, the audience can conclude that Hamlet is torn by his
mission. Although he clearly wants Claudius dead, he is constantly hesitant about his future actions.
Even when he has adequate proof that his uncle did murder his father, it s almost as though Hamlet
does not want to go through with it. Also presented is the notion that Hamlet avenged the actions
against himself rather than the murder of his father. (Glyn 1) When Hamlet killed Claudius, Laertes
had already poisoned him with the tip of his blade, and Gertrude was already poisoned by the wine as
well. So, if anything, Hamlet avenged the actions against his mother and himself rather than the
murder of his father. The second common approach is psychological. The psychological approach
considers the character s, or author s, mind to attempt to gain a further understanding of the piece.
Throughout the play, the ghost of Hamlet s father appears. This apparition convinces Hamlet

Medicare Fraud
Medicare Fraud: The History, Incidence, Costs and Institutional Remedies John H Everett Wayland
Baptist Medicare Fraud: The History, Incidence, Costs and Institutional Remedies What is Medicare
fraud? ( F A, 2011, p. 1) states Medicare fraud happens when Medicare is billed for services or
supplies you never got. Medicare fraud costs Medicare a lot of money each year. What is Medicare
abuse? ( F A, 2011, p. 1) defines this as Abuse occurs when doctors or suppliers don t follow good
medical practices, resulting in unnecessary costs to Medicare, improper payment, or services that aren

Some of the key types of Medicare fraud are as follows: Incorrect billing, phantom billing, false
certification, inappropriate services, bribing patients, charging for equipment and supplies which are
never supplied, double billing involves charging for more than once for the same service, code
jamming and upcoding. One of the first big cases in Medicare fraud was with a company called
National Medical Enterprises (NME) in 1994. The suit alleged patients rights were abused and NME
settled for almost $600 million back in the middle 1990s. One of the conditions of the settlement
agreement was NME had to sale of it specialty hospitals. NME later became to be known as Tenet
Healthcare. In 2002, Tenet went through another fraud case with Medicare, this time they were
charged with raising there charges by a large amount each year to reach Medicare outlier payments on
a majority of its Medicare patients. This suit almost cost Tenet to go under as a business. Still today,
Tenet is trying to recover almost nine years later from the effects of this case. The largest in Medicare

Comparison Of Betty Neuman s Systems Model
Comparison Assignment
Betty Neuman s systems model is a systems theory that emphasizes the importance of the complex
and ongoing interactions among all subsystems of an individual (Hood, 2014, p.128). Neuman s
systems model focuses on decreasing external, internal, and environmental factors that could
adversely affect an individual. Furthermore, Neuman s system model explains that these stressors can
cause a specific response and a unique reaction that consequently wears off the defense lines that
protect the person s inner core and preserve their health and well being (Hood, 2014, p.131). In
contrast, Callista Roy s adaption model is a stress/adaption theory based on the premise that human
response can adapt and change in terms of accommodation (Hood, 2014, p. 133). Roy s adaption
model explains that human response to stimuli is dictated by the individual s adaptive modes, type of
stimuli they were confronted by, level of adaption, and ability to cope (Hood, 2014). Moreover, as
Hood (2014) states, a person s adaption level is determined by its response to a combination of focal,
contextual, and residual stimuli.
While Roy s adaption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the fact that both theorists targeted goals aim to decrease adverse stressors and unwanted
stimuli through interventions that enable a patient to maintain optimal health by means of positive
coping and prompt identification of stressor, their means to attain patient s goal are a somehow
dissimilar. Neuman s system model interventions are targeted towards primary, secondary, or tertiary
prevention (Hood, 2014, p. 168) with the aim to fortify the person s lines of defense. Although, Roy s
adaption model interventions are also aimed to improve coping mechanisms and to reduce stressors,
they are specific to the improving adaption modes and optimizing adaption levels of the individual due
to the combination of stressors such as focal, contextual, and residual (Hood,

Vertigo Gender Roles
Vertigo has been at the centre of film critique for decades, inspiring an abundance of scholarly works
and research. Vertigo has been a template for plot twists, the narrative twisting and turning, its
characters always moving and changing both physically and metaphorically. From long winding
drives on San Francisco streets, to the shifting of the characters mental state, Vertigo is steeped in
movement and transformation, and few things exist in a constant state of flux the way gender roles do
in this film. Hitchcock is renowned for his portrayal of the classic heroine in the genre of suspense.
However Vertigo looks to re examine and play with these gender roles. Vertigo constantly pushes
again the traditional gender tropes in narratives while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same applies to the second time Scottie attempts to save the lady, as Judy climbs to the scene of
Madeline s death. As Scottie chases after the woman he believes to be Madeline, he, due to his
acrophobia, ends up being the person in distress in the tower, placed in that position by the woman he
is attempting to save and her lover/ director. Hitchcock tricks the audience into believing the scene as
Scottie saw it by using traditional gender roles of the fragility of female mental health and the woman
in distress tropes that the audience has been conditioned to expect. The traditional gallantry of the
heroic actions of the male rescuer and the desirable passivity of the rescued female is not just flipped,
for this is not a simple role reversal, but thoroughly twisted into a nightmarish event scripted to get
away with committing murder. Yet in the same scene there is an actual woman in distress, or more
accurately dead, i.e. the real Madeline, for whom this entire plot has been constructed but who never
actually appears on screen, with the exception of a

A Picture Can Tell Us
A picture can tell us a thousand words and ways to show us our history.
Photographers have been moving many of american s deeply and helped support the new deal
legislation from sharecroppers, farmers and migrant workers. Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Carl
Mydans, Marion Post Wolcott, Ben Shahn, Russell Lee, Arthur Rothstein, and John Vachon, were all
photographers, during The Great Depression, who wanted to show the government what the world had
become. Every single person that is named in this background has also suffered of the depressing
same as the family s in the photo s while the stock market crashed(the great depression ) have lost
many things they have loved. The FSA photographers and rural poverty show us the determination of
the black and white s, poor to poorest, and what they have lost, most of these families never gave up
and tried their hardest to keep what they made and made the best out of it, no matter if the only thing
they had is a blanket above their head.
Life in the 1930 s were rough, many people lived in shacks made out of materials they could find.
Having food was a struggle as well. Many people lived off of potatoes and cabbage from what they
could grow it , since money was a rare though to have back in 1930 s. Like the mexican migrant
worker home in valley, california who had a rusted down truck while living in a shack made out of
wood with no family in his life and the cotton pickers in Pulkaski County Arkansas in 1935 with huge

Henry Vi Part 1 Downfall
While Shakespeare is often regarded as one of the most successful playwrights of history, even the
greats have their downfalls. Henry the VI Part 1 has been viewed with less esteem than Shakespeare s
other plays, but this does not mean it is not sprinkled with phenomenal characters and other elements
unique to Shakespeare. Specifically, Shakespeare s Joan of Pucelle, or Joan of Arc, was considered
one of Shakespeare s strongest female characters written. Henry VI part 1 is a play often forgotten,
abridged, and ridiculed, but despite its shaky performance history and low regard as a play, it still sits
on the book shelves of many a Shakespeare lover and is performed, however slim those performances
may be. Throughout time the play has been performed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The play is said to have a lack of literary sophistication and is oft neglected and rarely performed
(Dell). Little is said about the failed play and performances are rare and hard to find (Dell). A Google
search on the play will only bring up results from one TV based on the play and one or two mediocre
performances and forgotten films before that. James Cooray Smith wrote a piece criticizing the play
and it s many downfalls. The play, obviously not one Shakespeare s best, was not performed after
Shakespeare s death till the 1700 s. Henry VI Part 1 is the least performed of all the history plays and
is one of the least performed Shakespeare plays in general. In fact, it was so rarely performed that it
was not even possible for one person to have seen the play twice in their lifetime until 1953. Often,
Henry VI Part 1 is not performed in full and instead a few critical scenes are added to Henry VI Part 2.
The play adds very little to the Henry VI series so few give it much thought. More likely than not the
play is looked on as a poorly written prequel which was unlikely even written by Shakespeare

The Portrayal Of Race On The Media
The Portrayal of Race in the Media
Ryker M. Bolden
Walla Walla University Abstract
This paper takes a look at five popular American television shows and breaks down how race and
issues involving racism are portrayed in American media, specifically television, in today s society.
We will analyze the characters, symbols, messages, and interactions in each of the five programs and
how they shape the public attitude on racial and ethnic groups. The shows used in this paper are
Veronica Mars, Community, Whose Line is it Anyway, Psych, and Castle. Each of these programs
offer similar portrayals of race; few characters fall into stereotypes while the majority of others are
unique and well balanced. Keywords: racism, stereotypes, discrimination The Portrayal of Race in the
Media Television is a massively popular media platform that provides information to billions of
viewers worldwide. This information plays a significant role in shaping the public opinion on many
topics. However, when the information provided on TV is inaccurate or oversimplified it can often
lead to misinterpretation by the viewer. Research has shown that television often influences people s
opinions and attitude towards other racial and ethnic groups. Since a stereotype is oversimplified
generalization about a group of people, it makes sense that the oversimplified information that shows
up on television could easily form stereotypes about the different racial and ethnic groups we see.

various missions in the space separately, what are these space companies after? Here are the 5 things
you probably didn t know about the SpaceX and NASA Mars mission.
How Are People Going To Survive The Trip?
During this announcement which dazzled dozens, Musk provided few and limited details about the
possible life inside the spaceship. However, he mentioned that the trip, by a spaceship that ferries
people to Mars would be utmost fun with restaurants and Zero G games. This however, does not
provide concrete descriptions of how the spaceship passengers would pass time and mist important,
stay alive.
One of the biggest concerns is definitely the increased levels of radiation. The deep space contains
energized particles from deep space cosmic rays and solar flares which can potentially harm people
during the voyage.
Where Will The Colonist Live And How Will They Survive?
This is the second issue Musk highlighted lightly. He mentioned that the concern of SpaceX was to
provide an ample transportation system to Mars. Besides, the promo video from SpaceX ends right
after the colonists get to Mars. It is therefore unclear who will handle the responsibilities of creating
habitats and a self sustaining civilization in the red

South Carolina s commercial gold mining began in 1829, two years after the first discovery of gold in
the area [1]. Mining continued with variations in productivity until World War II, when all gold
mining was abandoned until renewed interest during the 1980s [1]. Figure 1., seen above, shows the
amount of gold produced per year in troy ounces per year and the percentage of total US gold
production [2]. Overall, gold production increases with time as newer mining techniques increase
efficiency. In 1836, South Carolina produced above 11% of total gold for the United States. During
this time, there were a number of different gold extraction techniques that involved mercury [3]. The

The Palestinian Conflict Of The Middle East
Israeli Palestinian Conflict The creation of two sovereign states is the only possibility of a peaceful
end to the conflict over historical Palestine in the Middle East. To achieve this, a third party must offer
enough incentive to both the Arabic and Jewish states and create a sovereign Palestinian state. This is
not a very probable outcome, as the conflict is rooted in the peoples traditions and beliefs making it
much harder to compromise. I predict this conflict will end in the overwhelming takeover of the
Palestinian and Holy Land area by the militarily superior Israelites and the trampling of the Arab
people. Conflict over Palestine and the less well defined, Holy Land, is deeply rooted in Middle
Eastern society. Conflicting claims over the land have rocked Palestine and the surrounding states for
many years. The two key actors in the Israeli Palestinian conflict include the Jews and the Arabs.
Outside actors who also have influence and interests over the area include Europe, America, and
Egypt. Jewish interest in the Palestinian territory is based either religiously or with the interest of
creating a Jewish state. According to religious writings and tradition, the Holy Land was promised to
the Jewish people. Groups who identify religiously do not necessarily support the creation of a Jewish
state. Jews who do hold interest in the creation of a Jewish state are identified as Zionists. While today

Diabetes Mellitus ( Iddm )
Diabetes Mellitus In the pancreas, there are specialized cells that form small islands of cells, called
islets of Langerhans, that are alpha cells and beta cells. In these endocrine cells, they release
pancreatic hormones, such as insulin and glucagon that diffuse into the bloodstream to regulate
glucose levels. Beta cells secretes insulin, which regulates carbohydrate, protein, fat metabolism and
storage. On the other hand, alpha cells secrete glucagon, in which it breaks down stored sugar
(glycogenolysis). Without enough production of insulin, glucose remains in the blood that generates
an increase levels of sugar in the blood. In Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), which is also
known as type 1 diabetes there is a continuing destruction of β cells leads to progressive loss of insulin
secretory reserve with, in order, loss of first phase insulin secretion in response to an intravenous
glucose tolerance test, then to clinical diabetes when insulin secretion falls below a critical amount,
and finally, in most but not all those with type 1 diabetes, to a state of absolute insulin deficiency
(Daneman 2006). In other words, majority of the cells that are suppose to produce insulin from the
pancreas are eternally destroyed. According to Barr (2008), in Noninsulin dependent diabetes mellitus
(NIDDM), also called Type II diabetes, is a progressive disease caused by a combination of complex
metabolic disorders that result from coexisting defects of multiple organ

Scapegoat For Women
The American people must modestly realize that men are the prevailing sex, while women should
exercise their God given abilities of being housewives. One of the most noble tasks for women is to
raise children and to prepare them for the future. In the last century, women have become addicted to
demanding more rights without justification. The United States of America must stand strong in
denying women the right to have an abortion, equal pay, paid maternity leave, and political
representation. Women must have the legal and ethical responsibility for keeping their unborn child
because they are directly responsible for having that child in the first place. Furthermore, if a woman
cannot prevent an unwanted pregnancy, the unborn should not be used as a scapegoat. ... Show more

Women have failed to capitalize on the right to vote ever since the ratification of the Nineteenth
Amendment. For the most part, women do not desire to involve themselves in political affairs.
Moreover, women who wanted to run for a political office often lacked the efficient management to
run their campaign, and the adequate resources to use the media to advertise their campaign agenda.
Since we live in a democratic country, women should never complain about their failure to gain
adequate representation in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Society cannot do much more
for women to win political elections and compete against men; women should learn how to support
each other. In a free country, various groups of people, including women, will always demand certain
rights that will serve their own agenda. It is healthy to compete and demand certain rights, but some
women s rights are baseless and cannot be granted because women should not be treated more

Smooth Sailing Non Conformity
Queens of the Stone Age are the writers for the song entitled Smooth Sailing. In the song we are
shown a single narrator speaking to the listener. The song revolves around a man who s removed the
need or want for a norm and status quo. One who has simply a need and want to be himself regardless.
In Queens of the Stone Ages Smooth Sailing the effects both negatively and positively of non

Homme spoke about his philosophical views, and if we look at one specific lyric in the song we can

closed mind We easily see he puts himself in his songs. He believes things are planned out for a
greater end result. The words every hook is designed shows that the things that stick to you in life are
designed to lead you to other places or they keep you hanging. He also speaks of Temples of Gold
which shows a heavenly, comforting image followed by Hell is but the temple of the closed mind The
conformist Hell appears Golden because a majority of people are comfortable with remaining as is and

Kairos Cooke Bake
I attended the service activity of Kairos Cooke Bake for the 2PM 3PM shift on this past Saturday. This
activity was chosen because I wasn t doing something for myself. Helping others is a passion of mine
and one of my goals in life is to help people, especially young women, to the right path in life. When
it was explained in class to me that the cookies made in this event would go to prisoners, I
immediately knew that this was the service activity for me. Kairos Cookie bake comes from the Greek
word Kairos meaning the opportune moment. Kairos is the perfect name for them, because the
purpose of their origination is to show love and kindness to the prisoners, letting them know they have
been forgiven for their sins. Over 72,000 cookies are

1 All citations from Don Quixote I II come from the following edition of the book: Cervantes, Miguel.
Don Quijote de La Mancha. Ed. Francisco Rico. Instituto Cervantes: Barcelona, 1998. Print.
2 In this sense, the role of the pre Cide Hamete deflationist character of Cervantes s authorship of/in
Don Quixote I II as hinted at in the late stages of this prologue and subsequently throughout the book,
is to be understood as part of his strategy to insists on the importance of linguistic self awareness
through the deployment of the self reflective narrative technique, e.g. by warning us that the poems of
praise featuring in his book are counterfeit, but including them nevertheless.
3 Born in 1547, he struggled throughout his entire life, plus upon his enrollment as a soldier, he was
badly wounded in The Battle of Lepanto, his subsequent capture by the Turks earning him a five year
period of imprisonment, not to mention that his request to emigrate to America was twice turned down
and he lived in really precarious conditions during his writing of Don Quixote Part I.
4 This approach is much satirized by Cervantes in Los baños de Argel, La Gran Sultana, La Eleccion
de los Alcaldes de Aganzo (1615) and of course, Don Quixote I II. As Zizek claims, what bothers us in
the Other (the non Christian) is that he appears to entertain a privileged relationship to the object. The
other either possesses the object treasure, having snatched it away from us (which is why we don t
have it), or

Why the Range of Indicators Used to Measure Development...
Why the Range of Indicators Used to Measure Development Has Increased in Recent Years
Essentially the ideology of development was based on a countries GNP this was down to Rostow s
Model; therefore the only indicator of development was a countries economy. The ideologies have
changed and now there are a range of indicators that are used to classify a countries development such
as social, demographic, hence including quality of life this gives the ideology of development a more
multi dimensional view thus a better understand of what a developed country is.
There are three categories that are used to measure development they are economic, social and
demographic. Some economic factors used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other limitations in using GNP is that it needs to measure by a currency and with currencies always
changing figures can become less accurate. Also in LEDC s figures are less accurate and a lot of
business is done within the informal sector thus leaving GNP figures very unreliable. It also does not
take into account the cost of living is different depending on countries for example 10 dollars in and
LEDC will buy a person a lot more than what it would buy you in America. GNP s frequent use
suggest that development is only based on a countries wealth, where as this not true because
development is multi dimensional process. The other economic factors such as better transport link
and energy consumption tie in well with GNP and make using a countries economy more useful in
considering if a country is developed or not.
Some social indictors of development include the adult literacy rate, incidence of doctors and access
to a clean water supply. Adult literacy rates are good measure of development because it shows the
countries population who have access to education, with people able to communicate in other ways
rather than word of mouth enhances the chance of employment. Also one can compare the literacy
rates between male and female if they are more men able to read and write it suggest that women do

Thought Provoking Illustrations in The Illustrated Man by...
Thought Provoking Illustrations in The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury Ray Bradbury first
introduces us to the Illustrated Man in Wisconsin, on a warm afternoon in early September. The
Illustrated Man is shown to be large and well built, but now, for some reason, going to fat .
===================================================================== His
outfit is odd a woollen shirt buttoned to the top and with cuffs tight. Although this makes him sweat,
he pays no attention to it. However, we are soon to learn why. He is covered from neck to toe with
illustrations. And not mere tattoos these move, tell stories, and predict the future in every minute

Each of the Illustrations carries with it a moral standpoint, all of which are important to Bradbury. The
Veldmakes a point that is still highly relevant today Although technology is important, it is not so
important that it should get in the way of family life. It is an incredible piece of foresight by the
author, as this is possibly the greatest problem that we face socially today. Nearly 75% of households
are connected to the Internet, with around 80% possessing computers. This is the root of many
problems, especially obesity, as the Internet and computer games are the primary contributors to
unhealthy sedentary lifestyles. Bradbury exaggerates the effects that the technology has for impact,
with the parents dying as a result of relying so much on their house s technological equipment, and not
bothering to communicate with other human beings. In Kaleidoscope, Bradbury explores not only the
concept of death, but also his belief that we must make the most of our lives when we have the
chance, because at the end, the only things we are left with are our memories. He sets it in open space
to illustrate this nothingness and loneliness, but the point that he makes is just as relevant here on
Earth. Carpe diem is shown in

Ambiguity Of Hamlet And Ophelia
INTRODUCTION
William Shakespeare represents a fairly controversial figure of the renaissance age. Many of different
clashing and contradictory views about him are shared among people and critics.
Even Shakespeare himself who is covered in the wrap of indistinctness and vagueness is enclosed by a
great amount of unreciprocated questions, evokes analysis. Consequently, it does not astonish that
innumerable multitude of people aim to pierce deeper into his work shipping the mark of Shakespeare
ambiguity and answer to some budding questions. The approach towards
Shakespeare s personality but also towards the understanding of his works diverges and proceeds in
various directions. Such a contrast could be seen in Ophelia s understanding. For ... Show more

enforced by her father and the King to uncover whether her rejection to maintain the relationship
made Hamlet psychotic. After receiving Hamlet s answer, the King thought that there must be
another reason for his insanity. But it can be seen that Ophelia is very discouraged with Hamlet s
declaration. She was incapable to guard herself against him and the reaction without any self
assurance affirms her inner torment. Furthermore, nobody worries about her feelings; she
leftover being alone without any hold though her father was there at that instant.
It is apparent that still at this complex moment she did not speak much. When Hamlet
give up, the only exposure of her feelings in the entire tragedy can be brought to observation.
These feelings of annoyance, disappointment, betrayal and yet disheartening little by little
brought her to knees.
Possibly it is not a stroke of luck that while discussion about Hamlet, Ophelia involuntarily forecast
her own fate. Her tone will jingle, like sweet bells , she will soon become, and that unmatch d form

What s the Difference Between Vascular and Nonvascular Plants?

just need more water than the others? If you don t, then perhaps you should revisit Kingdom Plantae

Vascular plants have the ability to bear flowers since the flowers are crucial in their reproductive
cycle. Flowers contain both male and female parts that are essential for pollination. Without
pollination, no fruit or seed can ever be created. On the other hand, nonvascular plants do not undergo
pollination for reproduction, and so they don t have flowers.

The Theory Of Cognitive Approach On Eating Disorders
Eating Disorders (ED) are a real epidemic plaguing industrialized and developed societies, affecting
mostly adolescents and young adults (Benas Gibb 2011). In general, the flawed thinking of people
suffering from such diseases is characterized by an obsession with perfection of the body. The impact
that eating disorders have on women has always been more prevalent than on males. (Benas Gibb
2011; Polivy Herman 2002). The culture bound syndromes are constellations of signs and symptoms,
that are restricted to certain the cultural pressure to lose weight, which is considered a key element of
the etiology of these disorders, therefore, along with biological, psychological and family factors have
been generating an excessive preoccupation with the body, an abnormal fear of becoming fat and
anxiety markedly accompanied by changes in the body schema. These are therefore the characteristics
of Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Anorexia Nervosa (AN). The following ten literature review attempt to
demonstrate and support the theory of cognitive approach on eating disorders, briefly understanding
the neurobiological mechanisms.
Eating Disorders are defined as deviations of eating behavior that can lead to extreme weight loss
(cachexia) or obesity, among other physical problems and disabilities. The main types of eating
disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. These two diseases are closely related because
they represented some symptoms in common: a prevalent idea involving

The Freedmen s Bureau
Following the end of the Civil War, President Lincoln initiated The Freedmen s Bureau Bill; it was
intended to last one year following the end following the Civil War. Its mission was headed up by
Union Army General Oliver O. Howard to aid newly freed slaves during time of the reconstruction
going on in the U.S. It was clear that within the first year that the overall task would be hard to attain.
The Southerner conservatives had their own agenda on how black slaves were to be treated.
One of its day to day duties was to assist lost families found each other, teach them to read and write,
they serviced as legal advocates in both local and national courts, urged freed Blacks to gain
employment, and over all wanted blacks and whites to work together but not as slave to masters.
According to collections he states (Crouch, 1992) Texas bureau was not a failure there, but rather it
achieved partial success, especially in helping advance black education and in helping develop
community organizations. Moreover, its agents had decent motives and tried to do more, only to be

Peter Hennessy s The Office Of The Prime Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister is what its holder chooses and is able to make of it. (3) The quote by
H. Asquith, the British Prime during WWI, is the most accurate way to describe the content of Peter
Hennessy s book, The Prime Minister. The author argues that once at Number 10. Downing Street, the
office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy adds that there has been a
large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The book primarily sheds light on 11
post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office.
The Prime Minister is probably the one book that anyone needs to read in order to achieve a complete
understanding of the British premiership. It takes into account all the possibilities and limitations
present in the job of being the Prime Minister. The book begins with emphasizing that ... Show more

Prime Minister I could not waste time having internal arguments. (401)
Although The Prime Minister is quite lengthy, the author manages to keep it focused and interesting.
He is able to show how different leaders can shape the office the way they wish. Although he
disagrees with people who believe that Britain has transformed into a Presidential system, Peter
Hennessey does think the office has changed enough for the PM to decide how he wants to lead. The
book has been a great aid in helping further understand class content and the politics of Western

resources they need to make the transition to hospice care easy. What they do nicely, I believe is that

Discrimination In Discrimination For Women
It is 1996 and you walk into a local diner. You are seated and greeted by a waitress who takes your
order, and while you are waiting for your food, you look around and notice the same waitress taking
three other families order as well as other waitress and you are thinking that they are overworking the
women at this minimum wage establishment. It is now current day 2017 and not much has changed.
Many women are getting taken advantage off at jobs by portraying them as sex objects to help catch
the attention of more customers. When women are put in position where their only option to make
more money is by their sexuality and image, they start to compete with their other co workers. By
doing so the upper management wins at getting their way and making more money without having to
do much but give women who are desperate to make money an ultimatum. Our culture and the
management class stereotype minimum wage service job women as sex objects on display as this
causes competition among female workers for attention and power and ultimately disempowers some
women workers and represses their potential to come together in solidarity.
Road map First I will show an example from the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, on
how women are getting taken advantage off by forcing them to perform sexuality. Then by adding a
supporting example from the article Que Viva La Minifalda! Secretaries, Miniskirts and Daily
Practices of Sexuality in the Public Sector in Lima by Lorraine Nencel. Next I will talk about
management and how it subliminally creates competition between workers, turning women and men
against each other by showing examples from the book and in the article Cliques, Rumors, and Gossip
by the Water Cooler: Female Bullying in the Workplace by Crothers e.t. Al. Thirdly , I will talk about
how because of the previous two, women feel disempowered making them have no voice which does
not allow them to come together and unionize by showing an example from Work Uncertainty and the
Promotion of Professional Women: The Case of Law Firm Partnership . Finally I ll say what the
opposing side would argue against by showing an example from ..... And an example from ..... Then i

Nobel Prize consists of people who have been outstanding in their generation, winning for themselves
an award that has created both interest and concern in a century of unprecedented material process,

Nobel Prize, wrote that much of his fortune was to be contributed as prizes to those who have done
good in humanity for the field of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace
(Ringertz). Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature on October 13, 2016 for his outstanding
music covering a wide range of topics. Known to be one of the most influential singer songwriter of

Dylan s portrayal of desperate and changing times in the 60s was evident through his use of literary
devices through the portrayal of metaphor, allusion, and repetition. Using biblical references through
the use of allusion, starting with the allusion to the bible by the phrase Come gather round people, by
claiming he used the inclusion of the Sermon on the Mount, Dylan is no stranger in lack of beautiful,
poetic usage in his song. To add on, the allusion goes to exemplify that change is bound to come,
knowingly or not, to men and women of all races, status, and gender. Dylan s usage of metaphors
spoke in philosophical manners and as well in general terms, but was easily able to be translated in its
appropriate context in its period of time referring to the civil rights struggle and the hippie counter
movement. Using metaphorical phrases such as the relation to the individual to the reference of a
stone that is sinking or swimming (Dylan 8), as well as the battle that is raging it ll soon shake the
windows and rattle the walls (Dylan 25 26) are all a means of Dylan explaining in simple means that if
one wants to make time worthwhile, then one better start living life to the fullest, or otherwise they
may drown as time passes by. In regards to repetition, Dylan uses the pattern of rhyme schemes. For
example in his third verse, Please heed the call...Don t block up the hall (Dylan 20 22) the word call
perfectly rhymes with hall and There s a battle outside ragin ...For the times they are a changin (Dylan
25 26) with the words ragin and hall rhyming together in a perfect duo. His proper usage of repetition
does not just highlight the underlying, honest message, but its artistic message that brings out a clever
undertone as to how he chooses his use of

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Fears In Never Cry Wolf Fears are the stories we tell ourselves Anonymous. In the book Never Cry Wolf (1963) the author Farley Mowat uses many rhetorical strategies to illustrate to the reader that wolves are not bloodthirsty beasts, but rather friendly, logical, and emotional animals that we have no reason to fear. People have an instinctual adversity to predatory animals such as wolves and even though fear is a natural reaction we should try to suppress it, and see wolves for what they really are. The people that the author met in the Canadian north based their fears of wolves solely on stories passed down through generations. Of all his strategies Mowat s most effective persuasive appeals were logos, personification, and tone. Throughout the book Mowat uses logos to try and convince us of the wolves innocence in the supposed vicious, blood thirsty killing of the caribou. Because he did not have the resources to conduct a study on the nutrition of mice and and wolves ability to survive off of them, he conducted an experiment on himself. He eats mice for his first period and and canned meat and fish for his second. At the end of each tests himself and finds that his metabolic functions remained unimpaired under a mouse regimen (113) which indicated that wolves could too. Mowat also witnessed wolves picking sick and weak caribou and deer from a heard first hand. He followed a wolf pack across the arctic tundra and saw them pass up many healthy looking herds and bucks without as much as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emotional Detachment in Soldier s Home Essay A photo of Krebs during World War I shows him with a corporal and two German girls on the Rhine River. One s first thought of this picture may be of a lighthearted sightseeing trip on leave from the front. However, in the photograph, Krebs and the other corporal are described as too big for their uniforms, the German girls as not beautiful, and the Rhine does not even appear in the photograph (154). This is how Ernest Hemingway begins Soldier s Home, the story of a young war veteran named Harold Krebs who has recently returned home. Everything that Krebs says and does is to make his life as smooth and have as few complications as possible, more than likely a stark contrast to his life in Europe. Krebs is a detached being who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He would like to have a girl, but doesn t want to go through the trouble of getting one. He feels that he would need to lie to get one, and he doesn t want to lie anymore. He preferred the girls abroad, where the language barrier took the politics and courting out of the picture, making things as simple as possible. Krebs lives a simple life in a simple town, and he wants to keep it that way. The war was complicated enough, and now Krebs just wants to live without complications, commitments, or consequences. He did not want any consequences ever again. He wanted to live alone without consequences (155). Although this wish seems simple enough, breakfast at the Krebs family table will prove otherwise. Krebs sister starts a conversation about indoor baseball that quickly becomes a conversation about whether or not Krebs really loves his sister. We first see Krebs emotional detachment in his replies to her eager questions about love between his sister and himself you bet, I don t know, sure, uh huh, and maybe (157). During breakfast, his mother also mentions that she would like him to start working and find a nice girl, and his father is willing to let him take out the family car to do so, but these actions would only complicate his lifestyle. Krebs can hardly pay any attention at the breakfast table as his mother talks about how much she has worried about him and prayed for him. He even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Why The Anti Equal Rights Amendment Introduction This essay will explore the reasons why the anti Equal Rights Amendment of the 1970s was successful in keeping the proposed amendment from being added to the Constitution. It starts with a discussion of the process in congress and what it took for the amendment to even reach the states for a vote, and the exact literature of the amendment. It continues by analyzing what caused the movement for the ERA, successes of the feminist movement in the 1970s and leaders in the pro ERA movement. The rest of the essay will discuss the Stop ERA campaign, its arguments against the amendment and how it succeeded in garnering enough support to prevent passage of the amendment. This subject is particularly important to discuss because our society continues to be riddled with gender inequality and sexual discrimination. Though legislative change does not guarantee societal change, it is certainly a necessary step, and the lack of an Equal Rights Amendment has put the issue of sexism in the United States on the backburner. It is necessary to examine the origins of the failure of the Equal Rights Amendment in order to fully understand what is holding the United States back as a country and what can be done to move forward and make meaningful changes in how we perceive gender and sexuality. Passing an Amendment In order to pass an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America, it must first be proposed by either Congress with a two thirds majority vote in ... • 5. Essay On The Causes Of The Southern Rebellion The Civil War, often referred to as The War of the Southern Rebellion, was one of the bloodiest battles in the history of the United States, causing over 600,000 deaths. Although there were several causes which led up to this brutal war, one of the major causes was due to conflict between the northern and southern states over the expansion of slavery and sectionalism. Both of these geographical locations had drifted apart in their ideal views and ways of life. The south felt slavery was justifiable, and their agrarian economy depended upon slave labor. Meanwhile, the north forbade slavery and relied more upon machine age economy. Nonetheless, massive American casualties occurred over this four year battle, which eventually led to the abolishment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their method gave them a huge economic advantage in agriculture, as they could not keep their vast wealth without a workforce they did not have to pay. They defended slavery because there was no other alternative for them. It was argued that the Federal Government did not have the authority to make the decision to abolish slavery and that it should be up to the state government to decide. Owning slaves became a means of success for southerners who were eager for wealth, often times resulting in official and political power as well. The south was so dependent on the blood, sweat and tears of slaves that they were willing to go to war. While the demand for slaves increased, the north developed technology that would not only counteract slavery, but transform the nation for years to come. The technological advances aided to agriculture and industry through textile mills, steam engines, railroads, and canals. With industry flourishing, the north rapidly produced two billion dollars worth of goods, and later became home to the Industrial Revolution. With the recent change in economy and technology, slavery became not only a political but moral reform issue as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of The Bitter Pill The Bitter Pill: Why medical bills are killing us written by Steven Brill delves into the question as to why medical bills are so high. As Brill begins his research he analyzed bills from hospitals, doctors, and drug companies. Additionally, he interviewed doctors, Medicare and insurance administrators, and gathered patient stories across the nation. He found that the United States spent more money on healthcare than any other developed countries, he stated We may be shocked at the $60 billion price tag for cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy, [however], we spent almost that much last week on healthcare (Brill 2013). He also noted yet in every measurable way, the results our healthcare system produces are no better and often worse than the outcomes in those countries (Brill 2013). From the charts and graphs that Brill provided shows that the sixty percent of personal bankruptcy filings per year are related to medical bills. Life expectancy in the United States is the lowest amongst the countries that spend most on healthcare, our infant mortality rank is fiftieth in the world, and that one pill cost as much as seven pills in other developed countries such as France. Brill found that in many similar cases, like that ones he presented in the article, Medicare would have at least paid for a small portion of the bill. However, those who don t qualify for Medicaid and don t have insurance are often asked to pay excessive prices. Strengths Although the United States is said to offer poor health services among other developed countries, it still has some internal features that makes the system thrive over most healthcare system. One of the major strength in the healthcare system is the breakthrough of technology advances. Some technologies may improve the efficiency of care delivery by reducing procedure time, length of stay, or number of hospitalizations, thereby increasing the capacity of the hospital to treat additional patients (Sorenson et al 2013). In which, also favors many patients whom wished to receive their test results sooner or on the estimated arrival date. Another strength is that the medical research systems are some of the best in the world. Institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Harvard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The benefit that the Bee has of the flower is the Bee pollinate it, which they don t do on purpose, but has they go from flower to flower pollen falls on the flower on their way back to the bees hive. The flower benefits the Bee because the flower produces pollen which the Bee uses as food. Pollen and honey are the only food bees eat. The relationship between the bees and flowers evolved through co evolution when a Bee accidentally landed on a flower and found sugar and since then bees have been relying on the flowers for food and the flower has been relying on the Bee to pollinate it. • 8. Behavior Disorders And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity... Behavior disorder is defined as Any of various forms of behavior that are considered inappropriate by members of the social group to which an individual belongs. (The American Heritage Stedman s Medical Dictionary, 2015) Due to its broad definition, methods of identification, diagnosis, and treatments are varied and controversial. After my son was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in November of 2012, I recognized a stigma within the community surrounding behavior disorders that made it difficult to find the appropriate support for my son and my family. This paper will discuss the causes of behavior disorders, methods for proper identification, and problems that can arise in the home, school, and community of a child with a behavior disorder. Behavior disorders vary in symptoms and name, and can be divided into several classifications, including anxiety disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, emotional disorders, dissociative disorders, and pervasive developmental disorders. In addition to Sensory Processing Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Autism fall under the behavior umbrella. Like many other mental illnesses, direct causes of these disorders are hard to pinpoint. Although the exact cause of most mental illnesses is not known, it is becoming clear through research that many of these conditions are caused by a combination of biological, psychological and ... • 9. Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet The most common approach is revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is the act of a character feeling the need for revenge. The character does achieve the goal of revenge, but typically causes a tragedy by dying himself or causing other to die in the process. Hamlet goes through his own internal conflict and takes a long time to avenge his father s murder. Glyn Austen provides a view that Hamlet s revenge is more orchestrated by his enemies than by himself. (Glyn 1) This argument is supported through many parts of the play. Through Hamlet s soliloquies, the audience can conclude that Hamlet is torn by his mission. Although he clearly wants Claudius dead, he is constantly hesitant about his future actions. Even when he has adequate proof that his uncle did murder his father, it s almost as though Hamlet does not want to go through with it. Also presented is the notion that Hamlet avenged the actions against himself rather than the murder of his father. (Glyn 1) When Hamlet killed Claudius, Laertes had already poisoned him with the tip of his blade, and Gertrude was already poisoned by the wine as well. So, if anything, Hamlet avenged the actions against his mother and himself rather than the murder of his father. The second common approach is psychological. The psychological approach considers the character s, or author s, mind to attempt to gain a further understanding of the piece. Throughout the play, the ghost of Hamlet s father appears. This apparition convinces Hamlet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medicare Fraud Medicare Fraud: The History, Incidence, Costs and Institutional Remedies John H Everett Wayland Baptist Medicare Fraud: The History, Incidence, Costs and Institutional Remedies What is Medicare fraud? ( F A, 2011, p. 1) states Medicare fraud happens when Medicare is billed for services or supplies you never got. Medicare fraud costs Medicare a lot of money each year. What is Medicare abuse? ( F A, 2011, p. 1) defines this as Abuse occurs when doctors or suppliers don t follow good medical practices, resulting in unnecessary costs to Medicare, improper payment, or services that aren t medically necessary. One of the first big cases in Medicare fraud was with a company called National Medical Enterprises (NME) in 1994. The suit alleged patients rights were abused and NME settled for almost $600 million back in the middle 1990s. One of the conditions of the settlement agreement was NME had to sale of it specialty hospitals. NME later became to be known as Tenet Healthcare. In 2002, Tenet went through another fraud case with Medicare, this time they were charged with raising there charges by a large amount each year to reach Medicare outlier payments on a majority of its Medicare patients. • 11. Comparison Of Betty Neuman s Systems Model Comparison Assignment Betty Neuman s systems model is a systems theory that emphasizes the importance of the complex and ongoing interactions among all subsystems of an individual (Hood, 2014, p.128). Neuman s systems model focuses on decreasing external, internal, and environmental factors that could adversely affect an individual. Furthermore, Neuman s system model explains that these stressors can cause a specific response and a unique reaction that consequently wears off the defense lines that protect the person s inner core and preserve their health and well being (Hood, 2014, p.131). In contrast, Callista Roy s adaption model is a stress/adaption theory based on the premise that human response can adapt and change in terms of accommodation (Hood, 2014, p. 133). Roy s adaption model explains that human response to stimuli is dictated by the individual s adaptive modes, type of stimuli they were confronted by, level of adaption, and ability to cope (Hood, 2014). Moreover, as Hood (2014) states, a person s adaption level is determined by its response to a combination of focal, contextual, and residual stimuli. While Roy s adaption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the fact that both theorists targeted goals aim to decrease adverse stressors and unwanted stimuli through interventions that enable a patient to maintain optimal health by means of positive coping and prompt identification of stressor, their means to attain patient s goal are a somehow dissimilar. Although, Roy s adaption model interventions are also aimed to improve coping mechanisms and to reduce stressors, they are specific to the improving adaption modes and optimizing adaption levels of the individual due to the combination of stressors such as focal, contextual, and residual (Hood, ... • 12. Vertigo Gender Roles Vertigo has been at the centre of film critique for decades, inspiring an abundance of scholarly works and research. Vertigo has been a template for plot twists, the narrative twisting and turning, its characters always moving and changing both physically and metaphorically. From long winding drives on San Francisco streets, to the shifting of the characters mental state, Vertigo is steeped in movement and transformation, and few things exist in a constant state of flux the way gender roles do in this film. The same applies to the second time Scottie attempts to save the lady, as Judy climbs to the scene of Madeline s death. As Scottie chases after the woman he believes to be Madeline, he, due to his acrophobia, ends up being the person in distress in the tower, placed in that position by the woman he is attempting to save and her lover/ director. Hitchcock tricks the audience into believing the scene as Scottie saw it by using traditional gender roles of the fragility of female mental health and the woman in distress tropes that the audience has been conditioned to expect. The traditional gallantry of the heroic actions of the male rescuer and the desirable passivity of the rescued female is not just flipped, for this is not a simple role reversal, but thoroughly twisted into a nightmarish event scripted to get away with committing murder. Photographers have been moving many of american s deeply and helped support the new deal legislation from sharecroppers, farmers and migrant workers. Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Carl Mydans, Marion Post Wolcott, Ben Shahn, Russell Lee, Arthur Rothstein, and John Vachon, were all photographers, during The Great Depression, who wanted to show the government what the world had become. Every single person that is named in this background has also suffered of the depressing same as the family s in the photo s while the stock market crashed(the great depression ) have lost many things they have loved. The FSA photographers and rural poverty show us the determination of the black and white s, poor to poorest, and what they have lost, most of these families never gave up and tried their hardest to keep what they made and made the best out of it, no matter if the only thing they had is a blanket above their head. Life in the 1930 s were rough, many people lived in shacks made out of materials they could find. Having food was a struggle as well. Many people lived off of potatoes and cabbage from what they could grow it , since money was a rare though to have back in 1930 s. Henry the VI Part 1 has been viewed with less esteem than Shakespeare s other plays, but this does not mean it is not sprinkled with phenomenal characters and other elements unique to Shakespeare. Specifically, Shakespeare s Joan of Pucelle, or Joan of Arc, was considered one of Shakespeare s strongest female characters written. Bolden Walla Walla University Abstract This paper takes a look at five popular American television shows and breaks down how race and issues involving racism are portrayed in American media, specifically television, in today s society. We will analyze the characters, symbols, messages, and interactions in each of the five programs and how they shape the public attitude on racial and ethnic groups. The shows used in this paper are Veronica Mars, Community, Whose Line is it Anyway, Psych, and Castle. Each of these programs offer similar portrayals of race; few characters fall into stereotypes while the majority of others are unique and well balanced. Keywords: racism, stereotypes, discrimination The Portrayal of Race in the Media Television is a massively popular media platform that provides information to billions of viewers worldwide. This information plays a significant role in shaping the public opinion on many topics. However, when the information provided on TV is inaccurate or oversimplified it can often lead to misinterpretation by the viewer. Research has shown that television often influences people s opinions and attitude towards other racial and ethnic groups. Since a stereotype is oversimplified generalization about a group of people, it makes sense that the oversimplified information that shows up on television could easily form stereotypes about the different racial and ethnic groups we see. The Palestinian Conflict Of The Middle East Israeli Palestinian Conflict The creation of two sovereign states is the only possibility of a peaceful end to the conflict over historical Palestine in the Middle East. To achieve this, a third party must offer enough incentive to both the Arabic and Jewish states and create a sovereign Palestinian state. This is not a very probable outcome, as the conflict is rooted in the peoples traditions and beliefs making it much harder to compromise. I predict this conflict will end in the overwhelming takeover of the Palestinian and Holy Land area by the militarily superior Israelites and the trampling of the Arab people. Conflict over Palestine and the less well defined, Holy Land, is deeply rooted in Middle Eastern society. Conflicting claims over the land have rocked Palestine and the surrounding states for many years. The two key actors in the Israeli Palestinian conflict include the Jews and the Arabs. Outside actors who also have influence and interests over the area include Europe, America, and Egypt. Jewish interest in the Palestinian territory is based either religiously or with the interest of creating a Jewish state. According to religious writings and tradition, the Holy Land was promised to the Jewish people. Groups who identify religiously do not necessarily support the creation of a Jewish state. Beta cells secretes insulin, which regulates carbohydrate, protein, fat metabolism and storage. On the other hand, alpha cells secrete glucagon, in which it breaks down stored sugar (glycogenolysis). Without enough production of insulin, glucose remains in the blood that generates an increase levels of sugar in the blood. In Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), which is also known as type 1 diabetes there is a continuing destruction of β cells leads to progressive loss of insulin secretory reserve with, in order, loss of first phase insulin secretion in response to an intravenous glucose tolerance test, then to clinical diabetes when insulin secretion falls below a critical amount, and finally, in most but not all those with type 1 diabetes, to a state of absolute insulin deficiency (Daneman 2006). The United States of America must stand strong in denying women the right to have an abortion, equal pay, paid maternity leave, and political representation. • 35. Discrimination In Discrimination For Women It is 1996 and you walk into a local diner. You are seated and greeted by a waitress who takes your order, and while you are waiting for your food, you look around and notice the same waitress taking three other families order as well as other waitress and you are thinking that they are overworking the women at this minimum wage establishment. It is now current day 2017 and not much has changed. Many women are getting taken advantage off at jobs by portraying them as sex objects to help catch the attention of more customers. When women are put in position where their only option to make more money is by their sexuality and image, they start to compete with their other co workers. By doing so the upper management wins at getting their way and making more money without having to do much but give women who are desperate to make money an ultimatum. Our culture and the management class stereotype minimum wage service job women as sex objects on display as this causes competition among female workers for attention and power and ultimately disempowers some women workers and represses their potential to come together in solidarity. Road map First I will show an example from the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, on how women are getting taken advantage off by forcing them to perform sexuality. Then by adding a supporting example from the article Que Viva La Minifalda! Secretaries, Miniskirts and Daily Practices of Sexuality in the Public Sector in Lima by Lorraine Nencel. Next I will talk about management and how it subliminally creates competition between workers, turning women and men against each other by showing examples from the book and in the article Cliques, Rumors, and Gossip by the Water Cooler: Female Bullying in the Workplace by Crothers e.t. Al. Thirdly , I will talk about how because of the previous two, women feel disempowered making them have no voice which does not allow them to come together and unionize by showing an example from Work Uncertainty and the Promotion of Professional Women: The Case of Law Firm Partnership . Finally I ll say what the opposing side would argue against by showing an example from ..... And an example from ..... Then i ll show a possible solution on how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Dylan Allusion Nobel Prize consists of people who have been outstanding in their generation, winning for themselves an award that has created both interest and concern in a century of unprecedented material process, gains and losses, active nationalism, and expanded frontiers (Ringertz). Alfred Nobel, the father of the Nobel Prize, wrote that much of his fortune was to be contributed as prizes to those who have done good in humanity for the field of physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace (Ringertz). Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature on October 13, 2016 for his outstanding music covering a wide range of topics. Known to be one of the most influential singer songwriter of all time, Dylan was born on May 24, 1941 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dylan s portrayal of desperate and changing times in the 60s was evident through his use of literary devices through the portrayal of metaphor, allusion, and repetition. Using biblical references through the use of allusion, starting with the allusion to the bible by the phrase Come gather round people, by claiming he used the inclusion of the Sermon on the Mount, Dylan is no stranger in lack of beautiful, poetic usage in his song. To add on, the allusion goes to exemplify that change is bound to come, knowingly or not, to men and women of all races, status, and gender. Dylan s usage of metaphors spoke in philosophical manners and as well in general terms, but was easily able to be translated in its appropriate context in its period of time referring to the civil rights struggle and the hippie counter movement. Using metaphorical phrases such as the relation to the individual to the reference of a stone that is sinking or swimming (Dylan 8), as well as the battle that is raging it ll soon shake the windows and rattle the walls (Dylan 25 26) are all a means of Dylan explaining in simple means that if one wants to make time worthwhile, then one better start living life to the fullest, or otherwise they may drown as time passes by. In regards to repetition, Dylan uses the pattern of rhyme schemes. For example in his third verse, Please heed the call...Don t block up the hall (Dylan 20 22) the word call perfectly rhymes with hall and There s a battle outside ragin ...For the times they are a changin (Dylan 25 26) with the words ragin and hall rhyming together in a perfect duo. His proper usage of repetition does not just highlight the underlying, honest message, but its artistic message that brings out a clever undertone as to how he chooses his use of ...
