I Am A True Believer That Commonwealth Is The Best Option...
I am a true believer that Commonwealth is the most perfect option for my homeland, Puerto Rico.
There has been an ongoing debate on the political status of Puerto Rico for years on whether it should
be a state or become independent, but I think it should be put to an end now because I am going to
prove to you the reason why it is best for our island to be a commonwealth. No matter what anyone
says I know that for my own island, we wouldn t survive as a state or as an independent nation,
therefore commonwealth is the best option for us. Since July 1952, Puerto Rico has been a
commonwealth of the U.S, which means that we are colonized under the United States but are still
able to be self governing. Commonwealth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this is the most important aspect of being a commonwealth because I don t have to sacrifice my
religion, culture, or language which is something very important to us, Puerto Ricans. Due to the
Jones Act of 1917, we were granted a U.S citizenship, allowing us to travel back and forth between the
U.S and Puerto Rico (Perez y Gonzalez 2011: 1843). This is very important to me and my family,
otherwise my family living in the United States would not be able to come and see us all the time and
vice versa! Therefore, I would never want to lose this benefit that the U.S has given us. The New
Progressive Party consists of those who want Puerto Rico to become a state. This is such a bad option
for an island like Puerto Rico because if we were to become a part of the United States, English would
have to be our primary language and why would I want to sacrifice my language just to become a
state? English is taught in Puerto Rican schools, but it is a foreign language to them. Less than 20% of
Puerto Ricans can speak English fluently, which would make integration into United States culture
very difficult. Not only does it affect language, but it also affects our Puerto Rican culture. I have no
doubt that becoming a state would cause a culture loss because of the assimilation that will happen.
One example of cultural integration would probably be that the Spanish language would

Write About the Ways in Which Steinbeck Presents Either...
Write about the ways in which Steinbeck presents either Crooks or Curley s wife. To what extent does
he create sympathy for either of these characters? Of Mice and Men is set in 1930 s America in the
middle of the economic depression. It is geared towards the pursuit of the American dream, promoting
the ideas of equality, life, liberty and happiness. Steinbeck uses Crooks, and to some extent Curley s
wife to challenge the perception of equality and sometimes the language used is, by modern standards,
racist and misogynistic. There is an irony in the fact that the people judging Crooks are less intelligent
than he is and they refuse to look at anything other than the stereotype of his ethnicity. Steinbeck

When Lennie first enters, Crooks is at first defensive as he is not used to visitors invading his personal
space. He then realises he can have some fun with Lennie, who is nowhere near his intellectual equal
and Crooks reveals a slightly sadistic streak. He metaphorically, dances all over the slow witted
Lennie and is far too quick for him. While he is trying to make the point that although Lennie has
George, he is all alone, he enjoys tormenting Lennie Crooks face lighted with pleasure in his torture.
(Steinbeck, 1937, p75). Perhaps this was one of the few opportunities he had to sharpen his mind, and
he seized it. However, he was quick enough to realise the danger when Lennie was upset and backed
down immediately. This was undoubtedly self preservation, as Lennie was a big man whom had
recently mangled Curley s hand, but he may have realised he had gone too far and wanted to rectify
the situation. Steinbeck uses Crooks conversation with Lennie as a means for Crooks to vocalise his
position. Lennie asks why he is not welcome in the bunk room and Crooks is aware of the fact he has
to spell it out for Lennie (and the reader) and replies Cause I m black. They play cards in there, but I
can t play because I m black. (Steinbeck, 1937, p72) This illustrates the rejection Crooks receives on a
daily basis. During his conversation with Lennie and later Candy, who subsequently joins them, it is

The Good Life Montaigne Analysis
The good life is one of stability and the failure to be affected by forces and circumstances beyond the
control of the individual. This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life
should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth,
status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs
and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and
disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. A fortune can be lost, the
President will run out of terms, but the moral holding of each person is something that cannot be lost
or stripped by a force outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, stating that a human has desire not only to attain a flourishing life, but also to appreciate what
surrounds them daily. He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can
only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature]
promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243).
Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it
has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are
cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social
status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these
material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to
be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or
dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our
minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like
Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is
beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way
of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial
to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature
gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to
break Nature s laws. (Montaigne

Making A Criteria For Accepting Books
in charge to develop a criteria for accepting books. Once this committee evaluates which books could
be a good option to be used, the committee sends a list of the books that the teachers might use. Then
it becomes of matter of each teacher s preference; however, Mrs. Espinoza addressed that changes
have been made since the implementation of the Common Core Standards. What is occurring
nowadays, she said, each teacher take the Common Core and apply it to current lesson plans using the
Basal or whatever they use, and for a whole year, just to see, what they are already doing and how it
falls under the Common Core . Mrs. Valencia pointed that material selection is very different in the
5th and 6th grades. She explained that since it is novel based program, these grades do not follow any
basal reader or reading series type of textbooks. The students are the ones who select the books they
plan to read during the school year. To select these book, the students complete an interest inventory at
the beginning of the school year; then, Mrs. Valencia and the Literature teacher, Mrs. Jacob plan
together the activities that they will deliver; however, the students are guided through the process of
their book selection and they complete this inventory with the teacher guidance; the materials are
based on 5th and 6th grades reading skill levels, the possibility of using their content in the Language

According to Black (2009: 2), accounting can be defined simply as the recording, summarizing and
interpretation of financial information. A more detailed definition is that offered by the American
Accounting Association (1966), as follows: The process of identifying, measuring and communicating
economic information to permit informed judgments and decisions by users of the information . This

The Income statement is known as profit and loss statement . Normally it shows the revenue and
expenses.
The Balance sheet is known as Statement of Financial Position). It is showing the assets, liabilities and
capital.
The Statement of cash flow is showing the changes in the entity s cash flow during the financial
period.
Main users of financial Statements
Users of financial statements are same as stakeholders. Stakeholders can be defined as people who
care about the company. But Main users of financial statements can divide into seven user groups:
Investors, Lenders, Suppliers and other trade creditors, Employees, Customers, Governments and their
agencies and The public. According to the financial statement, they can get useful information.
Investors are people who invest money in companies in order to make the profit or get advantages.
They need to know whether it has the risk to invest in this business or company, they need to consider
about does this company have an internal financial problem? Also, they need to know how much they
can get after they invested in this company.
Lenders are people who lend money or something to someone or a company. For example, Bank. The

Western World Monarchy
In Chapter 12 of The Rise of the Western World, the monarchy was checked by the Parliament which
eventually led to efficient property rights and economic development. Major reason power of the
monarchy was reduced was out of fear that the crown would infringe on property rights; once the
monarchy was checked property rights were deemed to be protected by Common Law. England,
similar to France and Spain, had an unchecked executive that attempted to infringe on property rights.
They were solely concerned with identifying new sources of revenue regardless of the impact on the
economy as a whole. The monarchy in England confiscated church lands and allowed special grants
and privileges and collected number of fees to increase the revenue flow (146). ... Show more content

Quilt Of A Country Theme
All stories have a theme. The theme will tell you what the Character or Characters learned at the end.
Sometimes a stories theme is really obvious and sometimes it is very hard to find. But the theme is
probably the most important thing in a story. And without the theme the story is probably really
boring. I have chosen three stories and will name and explain the themes of them. The first story is A
Quilt of a country and the theme of the story is that even though we may be diverse we still have one
thing in common and that is that we are all alike and are all human and should treat others the way we
would want to be treated. The second story is Once upon a time and the theme of it is that no matter

And it is saying that with more diverse people there are probably going to be more conflict. But we
need to work past this conflict to keep as one nation that stands above all in the end. And that we
should always keep going even through the roughest of times. And that is the theme of Quilt of a
country. Once Upon a time says that when conflict is around you will want to protect yourself and
your family. But sometimes even in your own neighborhood you can be a victim of conflict. For
example the family makes all the precautions to keep them safe. But really no matter where you are
you may never be truly safe. And that not all stories that begin with: once upon a time, will have a
happily ever after. The Gettysburg address is a speech written by Abraham Lincoln after the battle at
Gettysburg. He wrote the speech to commemorate the dead and help to end slavery. The speech helped
people to realize that it is inhumane and just cruel to keep slaves. He wanted to resolve the war with
his speech and to get rid of slaves which he did eventually and unfortunately he died before he got to
see his whish through. But with all his power and commitment and the power of the north winning the

Descriptive Essay About The Pool
Alright, kiddos, Teacher announces, we re here. Before we head into the pool, let s check. What are
the pool rules again?
An assortment of enthusiastic voices cries out, Sunscreen, get a buddy, we have to see you Anything
said beyond is incomprehensible.
That s right, confirms Teacher, you need sunscreen, a swimming buddy, eyes on me, and you MUST, I
repeat, MUST wear your floaties when going to the deep end. That being said, everyone follow me to
the pool.
The short walk to the pool is a blur to Zane. His mind is elsewhere thinking of all the fun things he s
going to do, I m gonna make big splashes and race my friends and go to the deep end and do cool
things and make big splashes. When the pool finally comes into view, it s a paradise. An ocean of
clear, wavy water covers all the eye can see. Zane can see all the way to the bottom, and if not for the
distorting ripples he would believe it to be empty. The pool makes a distinct L shape, branching off to
the side to mark the deeper waters. It is already occupied with people of all ages. Most are lounging
around on rafts or in inner tubes, but some of the younger inhabitants are gleefully splashing and
flailing about. Multicolored balls soar through the air, descending until forced skywards with a
satisfying whack. Just as Zane had imagined, children are in competition, playing water tag, racing
one another, and throwing balls of mass destruction. He finally succumbs to his anticipation and starts

The Relationship Between Mother and Daughter in James...
The Relationship Between Mother and Daughter in James Cain s Mildred Pierce
I have always been of the belief that in order to truly love, hate must exist within the core of the
relationship. Nowhere in modern fiction is this dictum examined more accurately than in the novel by
James Cain, Mildred Pierce. Looking at the concept in a familial context, James Cain has created two
well developed characters, Mildred Pierce and her daughter, Veda, that not only emphasizes the nature
of mother daughter relationships, but looks at how love and hate permeates the very essence of the
relationship. The Irish poet Thomas Moore once described the fascination of these violently
fluctuating emotions, When I loved you, I can t but allow/ I had many ... Show more content on

Yet, if we look closely at the relationship between these two, the relationship seems to be a reversal of
this theory; it is the mother, not the daughter that can t imagine separation. In fact, the mother takes on
the persona of the daughter and daughter acts as an uncaring caretaker.
In certain sections in the novel, Veda is the mother and Mildred is the helpless, unproven daughter.
Cain ends several chapters with the mother, Mildred, exclaiming to the daughter, Veda, ...Every good
thing that happens is on account of you, if Mother only had sense enough to know it (Cain 88). These
proclamations only further advance the capitulation of the tenuous strings of control Mildred employs
over Veda.
Because females are more often trained to pay attention to inner feelings and emotional relationships,
it is usually the daughter... who feels responsible for the mother (Phillips 107). But Veda is not the
typical daughter, for Veda, the relationship she shares with Mildred is secondary to her own personal
agenda to ascend to the class of the elite.
In part, tensions arise because patriarchal propaganda creates ambivalence in daughter about the value
of their relationship with their mothers. Daughters long for closeness with their mothers but they are
confused by the images of mothers as the enemy, mothers as having low status, mothers as neurotic
(Phillips 47). This is a constant theme in Veda s interaction with

A Research Study Conducted By Usher Et Al ( 2012 )
The aim of this literature review is to analyse and evaluate the quantitative research study conducted
by Usher et al (2012). This is a randomised controlled trial that was undertaken to test a nurse led
weight management and exercise intervention which was designed for participants with serious mental
illness (SMI) who take second generation antipsychotic medications. This review will explore the
strengths and weakness of its research methodology which includes study design, study sample, data
collection and analysis by investigating their research study to find out if there is a link between
individuals with serious mental health illness gaining weight from taking second generation
antipsychotic medications.
Mental illness is a medical condition that disturbs a person s way of thinking, feeling, their mood, and

that needs to be completed. In Forever Overhead , the narrator says, It is a machine that moves only
forward (13). While the words themselves are in reference to the high board, a deeper meaning about
life is present. The line for the high board is much like our lives, we can only move forward. The
ability to stop time is nonexistent. The ability to halt life when we are feeling uncomfortable is
unavailable to us, we must charge on. Our narrator acknowledges this, There s been time the whole

Silver Linings Playbook Movie Analysis
In the film Silver Linings Playbook, by David O. Russel, delineates two primary characters, Patrick
Solitano Jr. also, Tiffany Maxwell, that both battle with mental clutters. Patrick Solitano, who was a
previous secondary teacher, gets his significant other in the shower with another man (the history
educator) while his wedding tune was playing, in this way in a split second getting to be plainly
vicious. Because of going wild on the history instructor, he needs to burn through eight months in a
psych ward, and is determined to have bipolar turmoil. Then again, we have Tiffany Maxwell, who is
tossed into an ocean of gloom because of a sudden auto crash that murders her better half.
Bipolar confusion, otherwise called hyper melancholy issue, is a psychological sickness that makes
people encounter temperament swings scenes of raised or disturbed state of mind known as madness,
substituting with scenes of dejection. These sentiments of lunacy can likewise include peevishness and
rash or foolhardy basic leadership in which Patrick Jr. shows an assortment of cases all through the
motion picture. One of which was the point at which he showed a brisk hyper scene in the specialist s
holding up room when his wedding tune went ahead, which helped him to remember the shower
episode. And additionally when we find in the start of the motion picture, Patrick encounter animosity,
which is characterized in the reading material as the purposeful damage of, or mischief to, someone
else (Feldman, 626) towards the history educator by intentionally nearly pounding the life out of the

Happiness Is A Long And Confusing One
The journey to find true happiness is a long and confusing one. Many people have sought the answer
to the question of what is true happiness, but have found a different answer every time. The idea of
happiness is what is so addicting to the human race, even if they have no idea how to get it or where to
find it. Happiness becomes something that seems almost impossible to get as we live, because as we
search for it we try to find it in the things other people tell us it is. What this does is begins to warp
what we know true happiness is; However, the moments in life when we are at our lowest and
desperate we begin to try anything to achieve happiness. Happiness is not something that can be found
by hunting it down like some animal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once someone has their view of happiness warped it becomes hard for them to find true happiness.
People begin to lose hope into finding their version of happiness so they try to get it from an artificial

happiness, now their is another person who believes the only way to happiness is through these
artificial version and not one s life. This is a truth in life because happiness is different for everyone I

searching for happiness and says, Everything that shines ain t always going to be gold . (Kid Cudi)
Kid Cudi is rapping about this truth that he has found in life. When he became famous and rich he got
even more lost in his search for happiness, with him believing that with this lifestyle happiness comes
from lavish living, However, what he finds out is that while some of that that stuff can make him
happy hit cannot always make him feel happiness. He knows that this is not the rout to true happiness,
but he says when people try to tell him that he blows them off and says he doesn t care. He just wants
to feel happy, so to achieve this fake happiness he smokes marijuana and drinks alcohol. Ironically

Low Voter Turnout In The United States
2014 Midterm Elections Low Voter Turnout
Essentially, vigorous voter turnout is very paramount to a healthy economy. In most cases, low turnout
is attributed to low participation in political issues and the misguided notion that voting in one
candidate will have less impact on public policy. In the United States, voter participation keeps on
fluctuating which has been an area of concern especially in midterm elections. More specifically, the
2014 midterm election reported the lowest voter participation in a period of more than seven decades.
This paper delves into analyzing the reasons for the low voter turnout in 2014 midterm elections in the
United States. The paper will also provide recommendations on how voter turnout may be increased in
the 2016 general elections.
The 2014 midterm voter turnout was considerably low owing to a number of reasons. One possible
reason attributed to the low voter turnout is disillusionment with the leading party. Data collected from
exit polls indicated that about 54 percent of citizens were opposed to President Barack Obama
performance as the president(Ching, 2014). Further, 65% of them viewed the country as headed
towards the wrong direction. Most voters were dissatisfied with the Republicans leaders and lacked
confidence in the government to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be meant to give a conviction to the potential voters that they are indeed different and they
can provide practical solutions. It is also the responsibility of the Americans to oppose voter
suppression attempts among other aspects. This would be through demanding an automatic voter
registration. Furthermore, voters should pressure the candidates to put forward visions that are of
benefit to the middle and the lower class. Practically, people would participate in politics more in
politics if they feel that the government plays a more beneficial role in their lives(Lerner,

The Crossover Quotes
Have you ever felt left out or pushed away from others? In the novel, The Crossover, by Kwame
Alexander. I chose to write about the main character Josh Bell. Josh Bell is a caring, immature and
athletic teen who, through a series of trials comes of age. Josh Bell is caring because in the book it
says, Tell him a joke. He doesn t even smile...Do his chores. He pays no attention...Say I m sorry but
he won t listen (145), this quote shows he is very sorry that he hurt his brother and made him go to the
hospital. In the book it also says, Well, I will talk to her about this job thing, since it means so much to
you. (167), this piece of evidence shows that Josh cares about his father and is even willing to talk to
his mom to convince her to let him take the job. These two quotes show how Josh is a caring teenager.
Josh Bell is also very immature because in the book it says, Today, I plan on passing the ball to JB, but
when I hear him say Filthy, give me the ball, I dribble over to my brother and fire a pass so hard, it
levels him (134), this quote shows that he acted immaturely and without thinking or caring about what
would happen to his brother. In the book it also says, Me and dad stare at each other for ten minutes

the Divine. The gods/God (in the Hebrew there is one God, whereas in Gilgamesh there are multiple

Present Day Teenagers Essay
As time passes, change is inevitable; depending on the situation, change results in positive or negative
effects. In the case of present day teenagers versus teenagers in the good old days , the changes that
occurred were negative. When comparing the two generations, the differences could not be more
apparent in all aspects of the term. Society has involved in many ways such as communication,
technology, and lifestyle practices. Teenagers have been impacted the most in the aforementioned
societal changes. Teenagers have done a complete turnaround compared to old school teenagers, and it
is evident that they are drastically different in their values, work ethic, and behaviors. When
contrasting the two generations of teenagers, the most obvious change is the sense of entitlement
teenagers have developed. Majority of teens nowadays believe that parents owe them, and that they

Old school parents made their kids go to church, made sure their education was a priority, and made
sure they have raised reliable and independent teens. Teenagers today, want to be grown in the
physical sense rather than focusing on priorities to survive this unfair world. The reason for present
day teens to be so caught up on the wrong things may be because they value the wrong things and
people. 21st century juveniles use rappers, who glorify sex, money, drugs, and designer clothes, as
role models. As a result, these teens are more concerned about how they look and other peoples
opinions rather than creating their own brand and standing out. Today s adolescents have become
more self centered, which is why they no longer value a sense of community or care to create real
connections. Instead, these young people opt to stay inside staring at their phone or tv, thus only

The Horrifying World Forster Creates in The Machine Stops...
The Horrifying World Forster Creates in The Machine Stops
In The Machine Stops Forster creates a world set in the future, where machines rule. In fact, machines
run life so much so that human beings, by this time, have adapted accordingly to life and the lifestyle
it brings. In the arm chair there sits a swaddled lump of flesh a woman, about five feet high, with a
face as white as a fungus, Forster writes. This is a pretty horrific description because it shows us that
in the world Forster has created, people get no exercise whatsoever. There is in fact no need to get any
exercise with the life the humans lead under the control of The Machine. Infants [are] examined at
birth, and all who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Life then cannot go on! It is often perceived that life is better and easier with machines but it is eerie
to think of what will happen without them, as they are the ones that actually truly have the control.
Again, it is often thought that with the machines man is able to control everything, but what if in truth
The Machine is actually reactionary to society and civilization? Life then becomes less secure than we
care to believe.
So changes in lifestyle indeed have occurred, and the main one being that people basically need not
ever to leave the comfort of their own home! Video telephone calls are available, so it is possible to
call people and see them visually during the conversation but therefore, in this world Forster has
created, no one really ever sees anyone face to face, up close and personal. This seems negligible
though, but it actually leads onto much greater consequences. People in this world are now haunted by
the terrors of direct experience and direct experiences are things that are simply bound to happen
sometime in life! However, now people have grown unaccustomed to it, so even a simple handshake is
considered as shockingly barbaric. People never touched one another, Forster writes. Human beings
are no longer used to seeing expressions on people s faces, as they simply do not require to go out of
their homes and make acquaintances. They

I found this interesting article from the New York Tribune it was called Cuba: The Land of

in depth about. We touched upon different media coverage during that time and different elements of
how media affected people s views and decisions. It was written on April 18, 1919. I thought it was
interesting that the bottom of the newspaper had the information about their offices. It listed the New
York address and then it had home office listed as Cuba. The article has a letter to exporters. It also

However the people of Cuba were seen to be these positive people who supported America. But in
contrast the Cubans wanted the Americans out of their land. They failed to mention of exploitation of

1) Since the injured plaintiff was not wearing a seatbelt, why is Ford being sued for failing to test the
seatbelt sleeve? In the case of Branham v. Ford Motor Co., the Plaintiff brought the case against Hale,
the driver, and Ford because the company failed to test the seat belt sleeve, even though he did not
seriously pursue the claim against Hale (Reed, Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd Morehead, 2012). The case
against Ford was based on two product liability claims: one for not testing the seat belt and the other a

Ford s reasoning for dismissal of the negligence claim was that since Branham did not prove the seat
belt sleeve was in a defective condition unreasonably dangerous to its user meant that it should have
been dismissed as well. The court s decision to judge on the handling and stability design defect claim
portion (Reed, Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd Morehead, 2012), this is true. 3) Is the consumer
expectations test or the risk utility test more favorable to manufacturers? Explain. In Branham v. Ford
Motors Co., the risk utility test is more favorable to the manufacturer. The consumer expectations test
is difficult to predict from a manufacturer s perspective because it is vague (Tracy 2010). Under the
risk utility test, a product is unreasonably dangerous and defective if the danger associated with the
use of the product outweighs the utility of the product (Reed, Pagnattaro, Cahoy, Shedd Morehead,
2012). The consumer expectations test is used to determine whether the product is negligently
manufactured or whether a warning on the product is defective. The courts noted that the consumer

Members also have duties of trust which are sometimes called fiduciary duties. Several Limited

The Energy Of Energy Usage
Introduction
Historically, the distillation of alcohol (spirits, wine and vodka) has been a high end consumer in
terms of energy usage. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation
columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in
chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing
distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess
more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption.
The principal topics of research that pose effective solutions to these present day energy challenges
are: the use of divided wall columns (DWC), self heat recuperation ... Show more content on

[3] shows that by using dividing wall columns, the uninstalled equipment cost for the total column
configuration is reduced by about 10%. The capital costs savings result from a reduction equipment
quantity. There are also indirect benefits; a dividing wall column requires less plot area, shorter piping,
electrical runs and smaller storm runoff system [3]. When compared to a conventional two column
system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled
columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of
providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of
conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the
columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8].
Self Heat Recuperation Technology
In order to separate ethanol contents from water, enormous amounts of heat must be applied to the
azeotropic mixture during distillation. According to Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, an
ethanol water mixture must be distilled at 78.3 degrees Celsius to reach the 80 proof content level of
standard vodka [9]. As a result, the heat needed to distill vodka creates the need to explore sources of
recycled energy. As investigated by Matsuda et al., self heat recuperation technology utilizes not only
latent heat but also the sensible

Analysis Of The Acharnians By Aristophanes
The writer Aristophanes wrote the play The Acharnians in 425 BCE. It is set during the Peloponnesian
War, which is between the Spartans and the Athenians. The main character, Dicaeopolis, is an
Athenian farmer that is part of the very small handful of people that actually want peace in Athens and
to end the war with Sparta. After the general assembly, the government officials in Athens, refuses to
make a peace treaty to end the war, Dicaeopolis take his problems into his own hands and creates a
compromise with Sparta stating that he and his family can trade and live in peace while the rest of
Athens is suffering under poverty and war. As the play goes on, Athens citizens are suffering and
starving while Dicaeopolis can be seen living a wealthy life with fancy food and clothes. Aristophanes
constantly spreads this theme throughout the play showing how peace brings way better rewards than
being constantly in unnecessary wars. The Acharnians is a work of satire that uses mostly horatian
style satire and lots of examples of exaggeration. During the town meeting towards the beginning of
the play, the commissioner states, And we did suffer on our journey thro Cayster s plains in curtain d
palanquins, Luxuriously bestow d in cushions soft Poor wretches that we were! (page 20 lines 9 12).
This is an exaggeration of how well treated the government officials are, being carried in curtained
transportation with soft pillows and fancy food, and how spoiled and stubborn

The Pros And Cons Of Coffee
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the world and therefore is a popular commodity. More
than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day. Over 90% of coffee is produced in
developing countries, and millions of small producers income comes from growing coffee. Coffee is
produced and exported mostly from South American countries, while mainly industrialized countries
are the ones importing the most coffee. Worldwide, 25 million small producers rely on coffee for a
living, and in Brazil, over 5 million people are employed by the commodity. Brazil is the top country
in exporting coffee and is where almost a third of the whole world s production of coffee is. Coffee is
a more labor intensive work culture than other commodities like sugar cane or cattle because it is not
automated work and requires attention.
It is a major export commodity and was the top agricultural export for 12 countries in 2004. It was the
second most valuable commodity exported by developing countries from 1970 to 2000. World coffee
production predicted for 2017/18 is 159 million bags which is the same as the last year because lower
output in Brazil is offset by higher production in Vietnam, Mexico, and Indonesia and slight increases
in other countries. World exports of green coffee are expected to stay steady with 111 million bags.
Global consumption is estimated to be a record 158 million bags so ending inventories are expected to
decrease to 34 million bags after being higher the previous 5 years. The countries that exported the
highest dollar value worth of coffee during the year 2016 are Brazil, Vietnam, Columbia, Germany,
Switzerland, Italy, and Indonesia. Brazil accounted for 15.9% of total coffee exports, which was 5.2
billion dollars. Brazil s Arabica output is forecast to drop 5.1 million bags to 40.5 million. Coffee trees
in top growing regions in Brazil, Southern Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, have shown excellent
development and growers have intensified crop management, which are some of the reasons why
Brazil produces so much and exports coffee. There is also a lot of rainfall which has supported
development. Vietnam exported 4.7 billion dollars which was 10.5% of total world exports. Vietnam s

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are damaging behaviors identified from research conducted by
social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are
associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The Four Horseman
are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack
towards another s sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves
the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s
personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to
indicate the faults one one s partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a
forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a
presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to
distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious
consideration. When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s
quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the
other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. This would
leave the parties defensive towards each other and with negative feeling abound could signal an

of all nations, the Nuclear Bomb. The atomic bomb was the brain child of Robert Oppenheimer. The
first nuclear bomb was also the first used in combat. Dropped by the United States military on
Hiroshima, August 5 1945, the city was leveled and left Japan devastated. After this attack, the world
was at a race to see who could perfect the weapon. Countries across the world had nuclear weaponry
tests. One of these countries, was the United States of America. Many of the United States nuclear
tests took place in and around the Bikini Atoll in the 1940 s, 1950 s, and 1980 s. These tests changed
the lives of both the native people, wildlife, and the once beautiful ecosystem which flourished on
those Bikini Atoll islands. (http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Usa/Tests/) The first of many tests in the
Bikini Atoll was a nuclear airstrike codenamed Able and was carried out on July 1, 1946, merely one
year after the horrific attacks of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The second test did the opposite. Nuclear
test Baker was a submarine test, which took place at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the Bikini Atoll tests, nuclear weaponry had become something of international significance.
Several movements were made to extinct the use of this most deadly and horrifying weapon. The
crowds voices were head, and nuclear tests were officially banned by our government in 1996, during
President Bill Clinton s presidency. To this day, the Bikini Atoll has not gone under any reconstruction
movements and is not planned to, due to the unsafe and irradiated nature of the once often used site.

The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions
The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct
relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in
the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section we
review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and discuss the
suggestions to expand the analysis to walking under transient conditions.
Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from subjects
walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and EMGs were
measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed considerable changes
with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors suggested that the activity at any
speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of the profile at the lowest speed and a
function that represents the increase in the activity per unit increase of normalized speed. One
limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests. Because of this shortcoming the linear
interpolation model could be used to make reliable conclusions only about the effect of speed on the
activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal. Without building the confidence intervals we cannot
infer the effect of speed on activation profiles over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of

Peanut Butter Cups Essay
Halloween is a time for spooky fun and lots of junk food. But you can take back some of the control
over this candy festival by making your own unprocessed sweet treats and candies. The peanut butter
cups like those that you buy at the store are easy to make at home. You can make one with less sugar
without compromising all the satisfying goodness and richness. Making dark chocolate peanut butter
cups is hard to mess up, as you working with chocolate and peanut, which are two of the best things
on the planet. You just have to make them in an easily edible package.
The basic approach with home made peanut butter cups is taking mini muffin liners, layering the
bottom with melted chocolate, putting a dollop of peanut butter in the middle, covering them with
more chocolate and hardening them before devouring. This is a pretty simple homemade mini peanut

You will need to prepare ¾ cup of peanut butter, seed butter or almond butter, 2 tablespoons of
unrefined coconut oil (set at room temperature), 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon sea salt, ½
teaspoon cinnamon, and 10 ounces bittersweet chocolate (bars or chips). You can double the
ingredients as you like, since 24 cups will surely not be enough because this tastes so good.
Start by lining the two mini muffin pans with mini muffin liners. In a food processor, combine the
peanut butter, coconut oil, vanilla, sea salt and cinnamon. Blend it until smooth, tasting and adjusting
the sweetness with stevia or sugar. If you want, you can transfer it to a small bowl. Melt the dark
chocolate in a double broiler, and pour it in a clean squeeze bottle. Squeeze approximately 1 teaspoon
of chocolate into each cup. Tilt the fan so the chocolate evenly coats the bottom of every cup. Put the
pans in the freezer for about 5 minutes, or until the chocolate

Willis O Brien s Use Of Stop Motion In King Kong
King Kong (1933)
The 1933 film King Kong was one of the first feature films to use stop motion as a practical effect. In
that time, it was the only way to create the creatures such as those and have them interact with the live
action characters. Willis O Brien was the lead special effects artist on King Kong; he was one of the
pioneers of stop motion animation. Throughout King Kong, many different practical techniques were
used to bring the film to life including, stop motion, miniature sets, mattes and full scale practical
creatures.
For the film, 74 different Kong were created, they were all alike, their only difference being in their
size. The largest Kong was 50 ft. tall, its face alone, from chin to hair line, was 7 ft. tall. The biggest
Kong was only seen fully assembled once during the film and that was at the end after being after
being shot down by aeroplanes. Sometimes multiple Kongs had to be used in the one sequence. This
all depended on how far away the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the stage is lit and the camera is at the right distance all you have to do is shoot and move the

had advanced a lot. Motion Capture (Mocap) was the primary tool used in creating the creature.

Application of Six Sigma in Supply Chain Management
Application of Six Sigma in Supply Chain Management
Anoop P. S.
Abstract: This paper hypothesises that, whilst Six Sigma as a change and improvement strategy is
delivering significant business benefit to practitioner organisations, it has not been successfully
adapted to deliver similar benefits across supply chains. It demonstrates by reference to the literature
that most published applications of Six Sigma in supply chains are related to the application of
traditional internal Six Sigma methodologies to the internal processes of a supplier to the Six Sigma
Organisation . In this paper, the issues particular to an application of Six Sigma in a broader supply
chain context are discussed, with reference to specific supply chain ... Show more content on

2.1 Adding Value With SCOR
Developed by the not for profit Supply Chain Council, SCOR (Supply Chain Operations Reference) is
a model that links process elements, metrics, best practices and features associated with supply chain
execution. It helps to identify and quantify critical opportunities for improvements not only within the
supply chains of a single company but also between multiple trading partners. It describes a
continuum of processes: Plan, Source, Make, Deliver and Return. SCOR works best with companies
that have an enterprise information platform that can carefully track this continuum through KPIs and
scorecards or at least provide the data so that a qualified enterprise platform can acquire the data,
analyze it and surface it to the people who need to see it.
Although rooted in the supply chain realm, SCOR adherents see a role for the methodology as the
gatekeeper identifying the projects most likely to render ROI using SCOR, Lean or Six Sigma. There
is already a natural link between Lean and Six Sigma at the program and project execution level. Six
Sigma has the project tracking and financial accountability elements. Lean helps surface the rocks that
become ideal targets for Six Sigma. The two combined provide a powerful results driven

The Loopholes of the Montreal Protocol on the Substances...
Climate Change is one of the chief problems that the world is struggling right now. It is estimated that
every decade, the world s temperature is increasing by 1ºC and this phenomenon is called global
warming. An evident example of global warming is the melting of the polar ice caps. Compare to the
past hundred years, the size of the polar ice caps has reduced which resulted to the rise of the sea
levels and eventually destroying the homes of those people living near the seaside. Another
consequence is the increasing number of dangerous typhoons. A typhoon starts from a low pressure
area in the oceans and because the temperature of the water is increasing due to global warming, more
low pressure areas are formed. Next, another effect of global warming is the widespread extinction of
some animals. Many animals in the Arctic and Antarctic region have migrated to other places but
some of them cannot stand the heat and they died. While under the sea, many fishes have also been
extinct because the coral reefs have been destroyed in the process called coral bleaching. Lastly, a
common evidence of global warming is the failure of cultivated crops. Many lands have dried up and
have fissures because there is no water left especially on the season of El Niño which lead to hunger
and increase in demand of food. The Ozone Layer is a region in the Earth s stratosphere which serves
as a protective layer against the sun s ultraviolet rays and prevents the escape of oxygen (O2) from the

Documentation In Healthcare
If it is not written, it was never done this mean that if it was not written down it could be lost and
forgotten as time goes by like if it never happened. You can only prove what you did by the
documentation that you do. If you don t document it, then you can t prove you did it. A proper
documentation is always important in a healthcare setting. By having incorrect information or no
information at all it may result in serious injury or death of a patient, that why it very important to
keep track of all information of a patient, not only to protect the patients but also to stay on the right
side of the law. The record is a legal document so everything that you write is memorialized
permanently and what you don t write is questioned forever.

Gambling In Canada
Impact on the economy
Money makers exercise the people employed in these industries, and have blossomed a multibillion
dollar industry worldwide where many seek employment with a big corporation and the government
making profit. From 1992 to 2008, gambling revenue in Canada has increased by billions, from just
over 2 to 14 billion, proving itself to be a highly profitable business. Location or extensive travel is no
longer a restrictive factor because of the introduction of online gambling and because of its ease of
access, many more people are getting involved in gambling. Revenue from these online gambling
venues too, allows for investors to profit from advertisements on sites. The rise in casino facilities in
cities, has made it easier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adolescents may gamble due to peer pressure, to alleviate boredom and to dismiss a depressive
mental state. This way of thinking is particularly evident on college campuses, where students play
poker together in dormitories and at local bars. These types of strong friendships made through
gambling interweave to develop into part of a tight knit subculture. The shared exposure to the threat
of losing money stimulates a feeling of camaraderie at the gaming table. As a result, when gambling in
brick and mortar establishments, an individual has the ability to gain prominence in their lives and
create meaningful ties with their fellow gamblers; encouraging them to continue playing. When
gambling online, this human encouragement is virtually

Chapter7: The New Age and Related Novel Unsupported Therapies (NUSTs) in Mental Health
Science poses the discussion on the pseudoscience of the New Age therapies as these method of
therapy was popular among pseudoscientist back then as well as still being practice among people in
the mental health field. As the term New Age therapies can be defines as an unconventional and
mystical practices, the term novel unsupported therapy also shows the same definition as it provided
insufficient evidence to support their claim or theory in the treatments based on the American

patients, illustrates that the treatments is not suitable for patients as the author further exemplifies a
study regarding an experiments where they planted fake memory about alien abduction in the patients

that fake memory could produce realistic experiences towards the patients and could lead to severe
consequences. Parts work therapy on the other hand deals with identifying and labeling parts of an
individual s personality usually without the diagnosis of DID. Parts work is commonly associated with
IFS therapy that assume traumatic patients poses subpersonalities of DID in order to cope their

Archeology Chapter 2 Summary
When professor assigned us to read chapter 2 what is left? As soon I open this chapter, the title of the
chapter grab my attention. The deliberation that came to my mind was this chapter is going to be
related to past ancestors. Before reading main thought was rolling around my mind was how the
archaeologists figure out the past history. The chapter talks about the archaeologists quickly survey the
possibility of the enduring substantiation and look at the great variety of ways in which it has been
preserved for us. On the main apprehension of the archeology is to study the artifacts, moveable
objects which are made by humans, which provide evidence to help get answer questions about the
past. Non movable artifacts such as postholes, floors, ditches, etc. are known as feature. The location

The deliberate and accidental activities of human beings are known as cultural formation processes.
So through cultural formation processes we find out what people, past and present, and have done to
it. Natural events that effect archeological sites such as volcanic ash covering an ancient city or wind
borne sand or soil burying artifacts are called natural formation processes. Through natural formation
processes we find out natural condition such as soil and climates have preserved or destroyed.
Inorganic materials such as stone, clay, and metal frequently survive far better than organic materials
such as bone, wood, or textiles. The survival of organic materials be determined by on the matrix that
surrounds them and the climate they were dropped in. the acidic soils of tropical climates are the most
disparaging to organic materials, while on the other hand dry, desert environments and extremely cold

  • 3. I Am A True Believer That Commonwealth Is The Best Option... I am a true believer that Commonwealth is the most perfect option for my homeland, Puerto Rico. There has been an ongoing debate on the political status of Puerto Rico for years on whether it should be a state or become independent, but I think it should be put to an end now because I am going to prove to you the reason why it is best for our island to be a commonwealth. No matter what anyone says I know that for my own island, we wouldn t survive as a state or as an independent nation, therefore commonwealth is the best option for us. Since July 1952, Puerto Rico has been a commonwealth of the U.S, which means that we are colonized under the United States but are still able to be self governing. Commonwealth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think this is the most important aspect of being a commonwealth because I don t have to sacrifice my religion, culture, or language which is something very important to us, Puerto Ricans. Due to the Jones Act of 1917, we were granted a U.S citizenship, allowing us to travel back and forth between the U.S and Puerto Rico (Perez y Gonzalez 2011: 1843). This is very important to me and my family, otherwise my family living in the United States would not be able to come and see us all the time and vice versa! Therefore, I would never want to lose this benefit that the U.S has given us. The New Progressive Party consists of those who want Puerto Rico to become a state. This is such a bad option for an island like Puerto Rico because if we were to become a part of the United States, English would have to be our primary language and why would I want to sacrifice my language just to become a state? English is taught in Puerto Rican schools, but it is a foreign language to them. Less than 20% of Puerto Ricans can speak English fluently, which would make integration into United States culture very difficult. Not only does it affect language, but it also affects our Puerto Rican culture. I have no doubt that becoming a state would cause a culture loss because of the assimilation that will happen. One example of cultural integration would probably be that the Spanish language would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Write About the Ways in Which Steinbeck Presents Either... Write about the ways in which Steinbeck presents either Crooks or Curley s wife. To what extent does he create sympathy for either of these characters? Of Mice and Men is set in 1930 s America in the middle of the economic depression. It is geared towards the pursuit of the American dream, promoting the ideas of equality, life, liberty and happiness. Steinbeck uses Crooks, and to some extent Curley s wife to challenge the perception of equality and sometimes the language used is, by modern standards, racist and misogynistic. There is an irony in the fact that the people judging Crooks are less intelligent than he is and they refuse to look at anything other than the stereotype of his ethnicity. Steinbeck reveals as much about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Lennie first enters, Crooks is at first defensive as he is not used to visitors invading his personal space. He then realises he can have some fun with Lennie, who is nowhere near his intellectual equal and Crooks reveals a slightly sadistic streak. He metaphorically, dances all over the slow witted Lennie and is far too quick for him. While he is trying to make the point that although Lennie has George, he is all alone, he enjoys tormenting Lennie Crooks face lighted with pleasure in his torture. (Steinbeck, 1937, p75). Perhaps this was one of the few opportunities he had to sharpen his mind, and he seized it. However, he was quick enough to realise the danger when Lennie was upset and backed down immediately. This was undoubtedly self preservation, as Lennie was a big man whom had recently mangled Curley s hand, but he may have realised he had gone too far and wanted to rectify the situation. Steinbeck uses Crooks conversation with Lennie as a means for Crooks to vocalise his position. Lennie asks why he is not welcome in the bunk room and Crooks is aware of the fact he has to spell it out for Lennie (and the reader) and replies Cause I m black. They play cards in there, but I can t play because I m black. (Steinbeck, 1937, p72) This illustrates the rejection Crooks receives on a daily basis. • 5. The Good Life Montaigne Analysis The good life is one of stability and the failure to be affected by forces and circumstances beyond the control of the individual. This has been clearly stated beginning with Socrates, stating how each life should be lived with self purpose: no outside influences. The artificial goods represent that of wealth, status, and political power, whereas what an individual should cherish is their own personal beliefs and convictions. All items that society has taught a person to hold and respect create more damage and disruption than they benefit as they can easily be taken from oneself. A fortune can be lost, the President will run out of terms, but the moral holding of each person is something that cannot be lost or stripped by a force outside ... He believes that every person has the craving for knowledge, but that each can only learn a limited amount about Nature and how it operates. Montaigne later says, In her [Nature] promises and threats there is great uncertainty, variability and obscurity, (Montaigne 1243). Knowledge is so limited to each individual because Nature is constantly changing; changing what it has to offer at any given time. It is not right or fair to live a life in which no material items are cherished or respected. It is necessary to acknowledge that objects such as wealth, power, and social status allow for a more comfortable life. However, like Boethius, Montaigne also accepts that these material possessions are only temporary and will not be with the one forever. That is why they need to be recognized while such Fortunes exist, but one should not allow oneself to become attached or dependent upon such items. He contradicts Plato s platform stating, I hate being told to have our minds above the clouds while our bodies are at the dinner table, (Montaigne 1257 1258). Plato, like Socrates, believes in only focusing on what cannot be taken from an individual. Montaigne is beginning to break free of the mold previously set by other philosophers and does not accept their way of thinking. Although he does believe that societies goods should not take over one s life it is crucial to accept them to live the good life. Montaigne believes that all things in life were placed by Nature gives all that is needed. Therefore, to ignore temporary material possessions is nothing more than to break Nature s laws. Once this committee evaluates which books could be a good option to be used, the committee sends a list of the books that the teachers might use. The students are the ones who select the books they plan to read during the school year. To select these book, the students complete an interest inventory at the beginning of the school year; then, Mrs. Valencia and the Literature teacher, Mrs. Jacob plan together the activities that they will deliver; however, the students are guided through the process of their book selection and they complete this inventory with the teacher guidance; the materials are based on 5th and 6th grades reading skill levels, the possibility of using their content in the Language Arts classroom, and if they are a good example of the genre that the material pertain ... England, similar to France and Spain, had an unchecked executive that attempted to infringe on property rights. The first story is A Quilt of a country and the theme of the story is that even though we may be diverse we still have one thing in common and that is that we are all alike and are all human and should treat others the way we would want to be treated. • 14. The Relationship Between Mother and Daughter in James... The Relationship Between Mother and Daughter in James Cain s Mildred Pierce I have always been of the belief that in order to truly love, hate must exist within the core of the relationship. Nowhere in modern fiction is this dictum examined more accurately than in the novel by James Cain, Mildred Pierce. Looking at the concept in a familial context, James Cain has created two well developed characters, Mildred Pierce and her daughter, Veda, that not only emphasizes the nature of mother daughter relationships, but looks at how love and hate permeates the very essence of the relationship. The Irish poet Thomas Moore once described the fascination of these violently fluctuating emotions, When I loved you, I can t but allow/ I had many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, if we look closely at the relationship between these two, the relationship seems to be a reversal of this theory; it is the mother, not the daughter that can t imagine separation. In fact, the mother takes on the persona of the daughter and daughter acts as an uncaring caretaker. In certain sections in the novel, Veda is the mother and Mildred is the helpless, unproven daughter. Cain ends several chapters with the mother, Mildred, exclaiming to the daughter, Veda, ...Every good thing that happens is on account of you, if Mother only had sense enough to know it (Cain 88). These proclamations only further advance the capitulation of the tenuous strings of control Mildred employs over Veda. Because females are more often trained to pay attention to inner feelings and emotional relationships, it is usually the daughter... who feels responsible for the mother (Phillips 107). But Veda is not the typical daughter, for Veda, the relationship she shares with Mildred is secondary to her own personal agenda to ascend to the class of the elite. In part, tensions arise because patriarchal propaganda creates ambivalence in daughter about the value of their relationship with their mothers. Daughters long for closeness with their mothers but they are confused by the images of mothers as the enemy, mothers as having low status, mothers as neurotic (Phillips 47). From the awkwardness of puberty to the uneasiness of job interviews, life is uncomfortable, disturbingly uncomfortable. It makes those who are shy uncomfortable and those who have outgoing personalities equally uncomfortable. The only differences lie in our personal decisions to choose to feel so disturbingly uncomfortable about ordinary things we all experience. While the words themselves are in reference to the high board, a deeper meaning about life is present. The line for the high board is much like our lives, we can only move forward. The ability to stop time is nonexistent. The ability to halt life when we are feeling uncomfortable is unavailable to us, we must charge on. Our narrator acknowledges this, There s been time the whole time. You can t kill time with your heart. Everything takes time (15). Our young birdlike narrator has for the first time just realized that he must jump into adulthood, just as he must jump from the high dive at the pool. According to U.S. Dept. of Energy, there are more than 40,000 distillation columns in North America and they consume 40% of the total energy used to operate plants in chemical industries [1]. As a result, researchers have focused their efforts towards developing distillation columns that are more compact, utilize compressors to recirculate latent heat and possess more effective separation technology in order to reduce energy consumption. When compared to a conventional two column system, capital costs savings of up to 30% is typical [2]. In summary, fully thermally coupled columns/configurations/ arrangements require less energy than conventional counterparts, because of providing operating conditions that avoid or minimize entropy of mixing formation, which in case of conventional configurations occurs, more or less pronounced, at the feed stage, the ends of the columns, and due to remixing of internal flows [8]. There are some strategies companies have or could adopt in the future as an effort to make workplaces more family friendly for those they employ. Some examples of actions that demonstrate workplaces being supportive of their employees efforts of combining family and work commitments are childcare services, flexible schedules, and family or medical leave. Childcare services could include things such as on site services to care for a child during employee work hours or by providing a subsidy for outside childcare services. Accomplishing flexible schedules would include items that cater to the employees schedule for example job sharing, a compressed workweek, and flexible hours. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are damaging behaviors identified from research conducted by social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The Four Horseman are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack towards another s sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another s personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to indicate the faults one one s partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious consideration. When using any of the Four Horsemen during a developing argument, the couple s quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. This would leave the parties defensive towards each other and with negative feeling abound could signal an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Persuasive Essay On Nuclear Testing Nuclear Testing Ever since Cain murdered Abel, mankind has been a destructive force unto itself. This is very prominent today. The war on terror has been raging on for over fifteen years. Terrorists have used several kinds of explosives to kill their targets. However, one specific explosive remains the fear of all nations, the Nuclear Bomb. The atomic bomb was the brain child of Robert Oppenheimer. The first nuclear bomb was also the first used in combat. Dropped by the United States military on Hiroshima, August 5 1945, the city was leveled and left Japan devastated. After this attack, the world was at a race to see who could perfect the weapon. Countries across the world had nuclear weaponry tests. One of these countries, was the United States of America. Many of the United States nuclear tests took place in and around the Bikini Atoll in the 1940 s, 1950 s, and 1980 s. These tests changed the lives of both the native people, wildlife, and the once beautiful ecosystem which flourished on those Bikini Atoll islands. (http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/Usa/Tests/) The first of many tests in the Bikini Atoll was a nuclear airstrike codenamed Able and was carried out on July 1, 1946, merely one year after the horrific attacks of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. • 40. The Importance Of Walking Under Steady State Conditions The current knowledge available from the literature on walking at different speeds assumes a direct relationship between the level of activity of lower extremities muscles and speed. Several studies in the past have looked into this relationship for walking under steady state conditions. In this section we review these studies and their findings and we highlight limitations of their approaches and discuss the suggestions to expand the analysis to walking under transient conditions. Hof et al. [21] were one of the first groups to measure surface electromyograms (EMGs) from subjects walking at different speeds. Five speeds were instructed for over ground walking and EMGs were measured for ten walking steps at each speed. Parts of EMG profiles showed considerable changes with speed while other parts did not show any changes. The authors suggested that the activity at any speed could be estimated through a linear interpolation of sum of the profile at the lowest speed and a function that represents the increase in the activity per unit increase of normalized speed. One limitation of the calculations here was lack of statistical tests. Because of this shortcoming the linear interpolation model could be used to make reliable conclusions only about the effect of speed on the activity in the vicinity of the peak of each signal. Without building the confidence intervals we cannot infer the effect of speed on activation profiles over the entire gait cycle. In addition to lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abstract: This paper hypothesises that, whilst Six Sigma as a change and improvement strategy is delivering significant business benefit to practitioner organisations, it has not been successfully adapted to deliver similar benefits across supply chains. It demonstrates by reference to the literature that most published applications of Six Sigma in supply chains are related to the application of traditional internal Six Sigma methodologies to the internal processes of a supplier to the Six Sigma Organisation . It helps to identify and quantify critical opportunities for improvements not only within the supply chains of a single company but also between multiple trading partners. It describes a continuum of processes: Plan, Source, Make, Deliver and Return. SCOR works best with companies that have an enterprise information platform that can carefully track this continuum through KPIs and scorecards or at least provide the data so that a qualified enterprise platform can acquire the data, analyze it and surface it to the people who need to see it. Although rooted in the supply chain realm, SCOR adherents see a role for the methodology as the gatekeeper identifying the projects most likely to render ROI using SCOR, Lean or Six Sigma. • 44. The Loopholes of the Montreal Protocol on the Substances... Climate Change is one of the chief problems that the world is struggling right now. It is estimated that every decade, the world s temperature is increasing by 1ºC and this phenomenon is called global warming. An evident example of global warming is the melting of the polar ice caps. Compare to the past hundred years, the size of the polar ice caps has reduced which resulted to the rise of the sea levels and eventually destroying the homes of those people living near the seaside. Another consequence is the increasing number of dangerous typhoons. A typhoon starts from a low pressure area in the oceans and because the temperature of the water is increasing due to global warming, more low pressure areas are formed. Next, another effect of global warming is the widespread extinction of some animals. Many animals in the Arctic and Antarctic region have migrated to other places but some of them cannot stand the heat and they died. While under the sea, many fishes have also been extinct because the coral reefs have been destroyed in the process called coral bleaching. Lastly, a common evidence of global warming is the failure of cultivated crops. Many lands have dried up and have fissures because there is no water left especially on the season of El Niño which lead to hunger and increase in demand of food.
