Film Analysis Of The Art Film The Wedding Banquet
Art Film: The Wedding Banquet
The wedding banquet is a film which is based around the life of a Chinese born man Wai Tung
Gao, a very successful property developer in New York. Wai Tung hides the fact that he is a
homosexual from his parents who live in China because it is seen as a dishonourable
characteristic to have. He must find himself a fake wife to trick his parents into believing that he
is a straight man who they can be proud of, he eventually chooses one of his tenants called Wei
Wei after trying to find the perfect wife through applications and changes who she is in order to
impress his parents, Wai Tung must do this whilst at the same time trying to maintain his
relationship with his boyfriend, Simon. The father of Wai Tung knows about the relationship
between his son and Simon, this scene can be found at 1:35:28 to 1:36:58 of the wedding banquet.
The wedding banquet aims to show how perception of sexual orientation can effect different people
of different nationalities and how society looks at people of a different sexual orientation.
The scene which holds a lot of power in The Wedding Banquet is the scene in which Mr. Gao and
Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film
that Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had
spent some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai Tung s parents and trying to be polite to them
most likely in hopes that they would

The Stages Of Cognitive Development
Children grow through a chain of four serious stages of cognitive development, according to
Jean Piaget, who is a well recognized psychologist. Through the observations he made of
children, Piaget established a theory of development involving four stages: the sensorimotor
stage, which is from birth to the age 2, the preoperational stage, from age 2 to about the age of 7
and the concrete operational stage, ranging from age 7 to 11. The last stage of his development
was the formal operational stage, which begins in adolescence and spans into adulthood (The 4
stages). Piaget said the most outstanding features of behavior happen within the first 2 years of
children lives. The child s world cannot be showed mentally, so in a very literal sense, articles
exist only when the child can physically see them for themselves. When objects are not seen by
them, then they to fail to even exist to the child. This shows the idea of object permanenceto the
child, which is knowing the solidity of an object.
The Sensorimotor stage is measured by children facing the world through senses that they use every
day. The children s thoughts are egocentric, which means that they cannot understand or see the
world through someone else s perspective other than their own (Jean Piaget). Infants start to learn
the world through their own movements and sensations every day. Learning everyday activities
such as sucking, grasping, and looking help in this stage of development. Children learn that things

As you may know tornadoes can be one of the most deadliest storms but do you know how they
are formed? For a development of a tornado there are several conditions required to make the
tornado form. Did you know tornadoes mostly occur during summer? Tornadoes don t happen in
every part of the world. Tornadoes are mostly found in the United States. There have been tornadoes
recorded in Western Australia. A tornado
is a very violent spinning column of air occurring after a
extremely powerful thunderstorm. Tornadoes can cause death and economy damage. A tornado
can destroy a neighborhood in seconds. Firstly for a tornado to form a low moisture level is
needed to develop a thunderstorm, and a trigger is essential to lift the moist air

Fema And The Federal Emergency Management Agency
On April 1, 1979, President Jimmy Carter signed the executive order that created the Federal
Emergency Management Agency. 1.Year in and out, a disaster can strike at any moment and
put millions of people in danger and wreck billions of dollars worth of property. But, this is
where the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) steps in and up to the plate.
FEMA works as part of a team helping communities reduce their risk, helping emergency officials
prepare for all hazards, and helping people get back on their feet after their lives are disrupted by
a disaster. 2 FEMA s primary focus is to coordinate federal and logistical operations to save and
sustain lives, minimize suffering, and protect property in a timely and effective manner in
communities that become devastated by disasters. 3
Background
For 35 years, FEMA s mission remains: to lead America to prepare for, prevent, respond to and
recover from disasters with a vision of A Nation Prepared. FEMA can trace its origins to the
Congressional Act of 1803. FEMA coordinates the federal government s role in preparing for,
preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters,
whether natural or man made, including acts of terror. 4 President Carter s 1979 executive order
12127 merged many of the separate disaster related responsibilities into the Federal Emergency
Management Agency. 51 From this executive order, FEMA absorbed The Federal Insurance
Administration, The

Cocaine And Its Effects On Society
Cocaine is one of the oldest, most powerful and most dangerous stimulants in the world. This
powerfully addictive drug effects over 35 million people In the United States. Cocaine addiction
prevents a person from being a productive member in our society. It also increases the cost for law
enforcement and treatment facilities. It rapidly decreases the workplace, increases the homeless
rate and needless deaths on a daily basis.
Over three thousand years before the Jesus Christ was born, ancient Incas in the Andes chewed
coca leaves to get their hearts going so it would speed up their breathing to counter the effects of
living in the mountains thin air. Cocaine was first taken out of coca leaves in 1859 by a German
chemist known as Albert Niemann. In the 1880s is when it started to be popular in the medical
community. An Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, promoted the drug as a tonic to cure
depression and sexual impotence, as he used himself. Freud prescribed to close friends and
loved ones even though the drug made one suffer over paranoid hallucinations and one even

My Observations At Rose Rock School Commenced
My observations at Rose Rock School commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, I climbed
the steps to get the doors and knocked on the door and only then noticed a small sign that said
for people to use the back door. The front door was then opened by a woman that asked if I was
Megan, I said yes. When I walked in I noticed that the roomshad no doors and the first room had
most likely been a living room and the room next to it a dining room. The lady that had let me in
said she would get Shanah and let her know I was here. I met Shanah and she explained that I
would be observing in the room that is next to the living room and that parents start dropping off
their children at eight in the morning.
While we talked, I asked Shanah how many children are in her group and she said thirteen
children, which included her own son that is one and a half years old. As we talked, the children
started arriving and she got them to sit down at the table and told them that they were going to
make art craft for their mother for mother s day. While Shanah was cutting the cloth, another
caregiver came into the room and I asked her what the ages the children in this group was and she
replied that the children in this group were between 1 ВЅ and 6 years old. After this caregiver left, I
noticed one of the older children asked who I was and she responded that I was watching their
class to learn.

Abstract
In the last three decades, pulsed high voltage discharge technology has offered promising
techniques for the treatment of wastewaters released to the environment by industry. A significant
effort has been directed towards understanding the processes that occur during the discharge of
solutions for a variety of reactor configurations. This review presents the disadvantages and
advantages of different reactors based on discharge phase. Detailed information is also provided on
the principals used in each technique and the advantages and disadvantages associated with each
method. Finally, a discussion on the different discharge areas is presented.

Fear In Dragonwings
It s 5:15 AM, and the streets are quiet. By 5:30, the streets are torn apart, and rubble is strewn
everywhere. What happened in those fifteen minutes was the San Fransisco earthquake. When you
look at Comprehending the Calamity by Emma Burke and Laurence Yep s Dragonwings, you can
truly imagine the extent of the damage and fear, even though Burke s purpose is to inform, while
Yep s is to entertain.
Emma Burke s point of view of the earthquake in Comprehending the Calamity was that it was
violent, and hard to understand. She states that No one can comprehend the calamity to San
Francisco in its entirety... (Burke, 1). This explains to us that the damage caused by the earthquake
must have been devastating.. She also describes the extreme force of the earthquake, saying The
shock came, and hurled my bed against an opposite wall... It grew constantly worse, the noise
deafening; the crash of dishes... the groaning and straining of the building itself (1). By describing
the enormous event in detail, we can get a sense of just how bad every building was shaking and
crumbling.
Moon Shadow s point of view of the earthquake in Dragonwings by Laurence Yep was that at first
he was scared, but then he decides it isn t so bad; they re all alive and together. ... Show more

Emma s purpose is to inform readers about the earthquake. We have to infer some of her point of
view. It isn t always stated directly, because she is trying to give details about what was
happening rather than reveal too much about how she felt about it. Laurence Yep, however, has
the purpose of engaging the reader in a whole different world. Yep uses details that cause us to
infer his point of view and he uses actions to show us his point of view. Moon Shadow s point of
view appeals to our emotions by focusing on the people in the aftermath of the earthquake and how
he felt about what he

I Had Never Felt About The Word As Anything Special
Thankful. I had never really thought of the word as anything special. Before I really experienced
the feeling of being thankful, I did not think of it as being an important feeling; not as important as
being happy, sad, angry, or anxious. Sure, there was a holiday named after it: Thanksgiving Day. I
didn t understand why being thankful was so important. And I did not understand until one day
when I was three years old.
Mommy! Mommy! I had yelled to my mother. Can we go back to dee room? That is where we are
going to right now, Mom had replied. I had felt really uncomfortable in my thick, heavy ski jacket,
pants, and mittens. Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, my brother, and I were in the lobby of a hotel in
Reno. We had just come back from a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

crowd had already filled up most of the space in the elevator, so my family members were
squished into the corner. When I had tried to enter the elevator, the doors began to close.
Aaaaaaaah! I had thought, and had hopped back into the lobby, instead of into the elevator. A
sense of relief had washed through me, as I realized that I had saved myself from the clutches of
the elevator doors. Then, I had realized: I was separated from my mother! My emotions and
thoughts had changed drastically. One moment I had been thinking, YES! I saved myself from
becoming elevator prey!, and the next I was panicking. Oh no! Where did Mom go?
I had burst into tears and began yelling and screaming and sobbing. MOMMY! WHERE IS MY
MOMMY? WAAA! Then I had remembered that I didn t know exactly where Dad was, too.
DADDY! MOMMY!
What if I never see them again? What if somebody kidnaps me? Oh no, I might never see them
again! I had thought hysterically. Now I was terrified that those horrid thoughts would end up
being true. I needed my mother. I needed my father. I cared for them a lot, and I wished they could
be there. They could comfort me. They could stop the tears,

Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Batman

September 13, 2017 The Story Behind Beowulf and Batman
Close your eyes and imagine yourself living in the time of 700 A.D. There is a guest speaker at and
evening entertainment and he begins to tells the story of Beowulf. Now fast forward to the 21st
century, modern times, the evening entertainment is now a Batman movie. The screening shows
Batman resembling much like Beowulf, who is an all around hero just like Batman. Heroes are
often seen as mythological legends, who are endowed with great courage and strength. Some may
also say heroes are noted for their rise of courage or nobility of purpose. Although, Beowulf and
Batman come from completely different time periods, they each share similarities of strength, both
endure courage, but they both are quite different.
To begin, the meaning of what a hero means to certain people have altered throughout the years.
Both Beowulf and Batman have similar qualities of strength. During the battle with Grendel,
Beowulf with his mighty power, rips off Grendel s arm ferociously with his bare hands. With that
being said, Batman shows his strength by defeating gangs and criminals on numerous amounts of
occasions, showing not only strength but endurance just like Beowulf. Batman proves to not only
himself but to the city that he does not allow for murder unless it is necessary. If the criminals are
not an immediate threat to Bateman, he will let them go. Beowulf as well shows this type of persona

Alfie Kohn s The Case Against Grades
Have you ever had a bad experience with grades? Do grades create a preference for the easiest
task? In The Case Against Grades Alfie Kohn argues why grades should be completely erased out
of the system. I agree with him, when he says that grades create a preference for the easiest
possible task and grades tend to reduce the quality of students thinking . I disagree with him, when
he says that Grades tend to diminish students interest in whatever they re learning .

Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas Comparison
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream was
originally written by Hunter S. Thompson in 1971. This classic novel showcases a stoned
sportswriter, Raoul Duke, who also refers to his own ego as Dr. Gonzo . Duke travels to Las
Vegas with his fellow Samoan attorney to cover a motorcycle race on the outskirts of Las Vegas
called the Mint 400. After a series of reckless events, Raoul and his companion finally make their
way to the city. Once there, they find themselves stirring up a great deal of trouble and receive a
heap of public attention due to their erratic, drug induced behaviors. The novel intrigued readers so
much that, in 1998, Terry Gilliam transformed Thompson s work of art into a movie... Show more

Nevertheless, it seems as if Gilliam s focus was more on entertaining his audiences through the
characters comical annotations and side effects of the hallucinogens rather than illustrating
Thompson s own idea of the American Dream.
While there were a few key differences between the book and film editions of Fear and Loathing in
Las Vegas, as mentioned previously, the film shares mostly similarities with Thompson s
original novel. In fact, the entire first half of the movie remains remarkably faithful to the book
s plot. Most of the differences in Gilliam s film mentioned earlier occurred around the second
half of the movie after Raoul and his attorney had made their way across the long route in the
desert. The location, the description of the setting, additional characters, drugs, and the car used
in the initial scenes were all identical to those in the novel. For example, the drugs that Duke and
his attorney were using in the book consisted of ether, blotter acid, marijuana ( grass ), cocaine,
mescaline, amyl, and prescription pills; these same drugs were used by the characters in Gilliam s
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well.
Likewise, the lines spoken by the characters in Terry Gilliam s film were almost matching to those
in Thompson s original Fear and Loathing

Analysis Of Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
The world of literature has been dominated by males throughout most of history; this is due to the
fact that women we re thought of as inferior to men. Over the last 100 years women have been
proving themselves in this sexist society, especially in the world of literature poetry, to be more
specific. Two names come to mind when thinking of great female poets: Maya Angelou and Emily
Dickinson. Even thought both of these women we re outstanding poets, they had quite different
styles of writing due to the difference in time periods, experiences, and culture. As time goes by,
society is influenced in different ways due to human evolution. This was true for both Maya
Angelou and Emily Dickinson. Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928. This means she was born
right in the middle of segregation. This influenced Angelou because she was an African American
woman who wrote about freedom for her people. The best example would be her famous novel
and poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. The book is about her life struggles and the poem is
a metaphor about a bird that seeks freedom. The final stanzaof the poem reads The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom. This excerpt of the poem demonstrates how she yearned for
her people to get the freedom they deserved. The comparison of the caged bird and the bird that s
free can be seen in many different ways. The first one

Cane Toads
Are They All From Down Under? When you think of animals in Australia, you think of koala bears
and kangaroos, but you do not think about the species that have migrated there. Most animals in
Australia are originally from there and do not live anywhere else in the world. Wombats, can toads,
and kangaroos are three great examples, native or not, of how these fascinating animals who live
down under survive. Wombats are native animals of Australiaand over the years they have had to
adapt in many ways to survive in their environment. According to Source 1, wombats have four
powerful legs that they use for digging . Wombats are burrowing, nocturnal creatures, their powerful
legs allow them to burrow in the ground all day and come out at night.... Show more content on

Source 2 discusses, these toads were brought to Australia from Hawaii to try and lower the cane
beetle population. However, these toads had no effect on these creatures, but they do have some
physical attributes which are deadly to other native creatures of Australia. These toads are toxic,
predators who are native to Australia do not have any immunization to this poison (Source 2).
The cane toads poisonous abilities allow it to protect itself from predators it may have in
Australia. These abilities also allow the toads to capture their prey with more ease because their
prey are not immune to their poison. Source 2 states, cane toads kill native predators such as the
quoll, a cat like marsupial . These toads feed on native animals of Australia, whether they are eating
the right animals is another debate. Since these animals feed on native predators of Australia, there
is not a shortage of them in their habitat. The cane toad can easily find food in Australia, therefore
they can easily stay healthy and survive in Australia. Therefore, their reproduction rate is very high.
According to Source 2, the cane toad population has reached beyond two hundred million. Their
high reproduction rate shows the cane toads have not struggled to mate whilst living in the
conditions of Australia. Therefore, since cane toads have easily been able to adapt to life in
Australia, they have been able to continuously reproduce, generation after generation. Even though
cane toads are not native to Australia, they have not struggled to adapt to life

Qin Shi Huang
Qin Shi Huang, First Emperor of China
Qin Shi Huang (or Shi Huangdi) was the First Emperor of a unified China, who ruled from 246
BCE to 210 BCE. In his 35 year reign, he managed to create magnificent and enormous construction
projects. He also caused both incredible cultural and intellectual growth, and much destruction
within China.
Whether he should be remembered more for his creations or his tyranny is a matter of dispute, but
everyone agrees that Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, was one of the most

The king of Qin became the Emperor of Qin China.
As emperor, Qin Shi Huang reorganized the bureaucracy, abolishing the existing nobility and
replacing them with his appointed officials. He also built a network of roads, with the capital of

weights and measures, and minted new copper coins.
The Great Wall and Ling Canal:
Despite its military might, the newly unified Qin Empire faced a recurring threat from the north:
raids by the nomadic Xiongnu (the ancestors of Attila s Huns).
In order to fend off the Xiongnu, Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of an enormous
defensive wall. The work was carried out by hundreds of thousands of slaves and criminals
between 220 and 206 BCE; untold thousands of them died at the task.
This northern fortification formed the first section of what would become the Great Wall of China.
In 214, the Emperor also ordered construction of a canal, the Lingqu, which linked the Yangtze and
Pearl River systems.
The Confucian Purge:
The Warring States Period was dangerous, but the lack of central authority allowed intellectuals to
flourish. Confucianism and a number of other philosophies blossomed prior to China s unification.
However, Qin Shi Huang viewed these schools of thought as threats to his authority, so he ordered

have different views on heritage. Walker describes the two girls as being extremely different on the
inside and out. The first daughter, Dee, is well educated and gorgeous girl who does not understand
the real meaning behind heritage. On the other hand, maggie, the second daughter, is the complete
opposite of Dee by understanding heritage while having little education and being physically
scarred by their old house burning down. Though these characters are sisters, it is obvious that they
are nothing alike. This is how Walker wants the reader to perceive her characters and understand
their purpose throughout the story. To accomplish this, Walker uses these character s actions,
interactions, thoughts, and feelings to develop apparent differences between the two girls. Alice
Walker develops Dee as selfish all throughout the story, evident through her feelings and actions.
Though Dee is a sweet girl, her feelings are described while their mother is telling a storyof their old
house being burnt down which proves Dee to be selfish. The text states, I see her standing off
under the sweetgum tree. She continues, A look of concentration on her face as she watched the
last dingy gray board of the house fall in toward the red hot brick chimney. Dees feeling towards
the old house conveys her selfish nature in the story. Here, Dee is nowhere near her mother or
sister, but instead

Abstract Of Electromagnetic Automatic Checkout System Essay
ABSTRACT
Electromagnetic Automatic Checkout System (EMACOS) is a self checkout system for providing
collective information systems with the identity of each physical item carrying Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) technology in the supply chain in an automated and timely manner. The real
time availability of item identity allows the items to be scanned and checked out for a faster, more
accurately and an automatized service, leading to increase timeliness. In the context of supply chain
operations, universal introduction of such system shows a major probability to overhaul and
enhance self checkout systems, process management and stock management. It is possible that
EMACOS may re engineer the whole supply chain in the future, by eliminating a number of the
constraints (such as Barcode) that restrict todays supply chain system. This essay analyses the
current checkout systems in supply chains and introduces the main elements of the EMACOS
system using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This system claims to benefit Pak
nSave, one of the biggest discount food warehouse chains in New Zealand.

Importance Of Confidentiality In Schools
The aims and objectives of confidentiality are to ensure that there are clear instructions of on the
limits of information exchange and these guidelines are followed when passing on knowledge
about pupils. Confidential information includes medical records, discussions, registers, statements,
comments, carers, reports and opinions. Information is to be shared on a “need to
know†basis, meaning that only the staff working closely with the child or giving special
training are entitled to know certain information. This includes information about a child’s
allergies, special educational needs or individual education plan. Sharing the information in the
appropriate way also prevents it from being misused. The school policy on confidentialityprovides
sufficient guidelines for staff about the everyday practice of information sharing. The
confidentiality policy has its legal roots in documents like Every Child Matters, the Children Act
2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998. According to these laws the school is only entitled to ask
for information that is directly relevant to the education of the child. This information is considered
confidential and must only be used for the purpose it was gathered for. It concerns health and
medical information, records form previous schools and records for special educational needs.
The main points of legislation and procedures covering confidentiality are that only the appropriate
people should have access to confidential records except

Theme Of Romantic Love In Pride And Prejudice
E choing Austen s irony, it is a truth universally acknowledged that romantic literature will return
to the refined days of Jane Austen and the BrontГ« sisters. All mockery aside, Austen s celebrated
Pride and Prejudice (1813) is a simple love story that continues to captivate audiences 200 years
on. Romantic literature has grown into modern, sloppy rom coms luckily, we can always return to
their roots: the timeless allure of Elizabeth and Darcy. Romantic love in literature re emerged from
the seedling of Pride and Prejudice; its light hearted yet layered language was a well deserved break
from the stultifying conventions of Regency England. Every romantic comedysince has echoed
Austen s strong and vivacious heroine Elizabeth. Rather, some of the most important ingredients of
Pride and Prejudice s acclaim, are the reader s expectation of a small world plot and eloquent
manipulation of style .
The growing movement of romanticism allowed Pride and Prejudice to be published in a world
relatively alien to novels focussed on romantic love. In fact, it was a world fairly alien to romantic
love in general, allowing Austen to set a new archetype for romantic comedy.
In Regency England (ca. 1810 1821) it was considered dishonourable for a woman to be
unmarried, as she would be a burden on her family. Matrimony was usually arranged for social or
financial benefit, rather than mutual respect or affection. In Charlotte Lucas words, happiness in
marriage is entirely a matter of

Rafay-Burns Injustice
The two episodes of Confession Tapes, the Rafay Burns Appeal website, and the response to King
County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg by Innocence International raise serious questions about the
evidentiary basis for the convictions of Atif Rafay and Sebastian Burns, including the credibility of
their taped confessions during the Mr. Big operation and the pressured testimony of Jimmy
Miyoshi. The Rafay Burns Appeal team has pointed out the following observations to me about the
crime scene that point towards another perpetrator: 1)A fingerprint was found on the shower that
does not belong to anyone who lived in the household. The shower was likely used by the
perpetrator(s) following the murder. 2)Blood was found in the shower, along with... Show more

Essay on Suffering in Photographs
Suffering in Photographs
Photographs are used to document history, however selected images are chosen to do so. Often
times these images graphically show the cruelty of mankind. In her book, Regarding the Pain of
Others, Susan Sontag asks, What does it mean to protest suffering, as distinct from acknowledging
it? To acknowledge suffering is just to capture it, to point it out and show somebody else that it
exists. In order to protest suffering, there has to be some sort of moral decision that what is shown
in the photograph is wrong, and a want from the viewer to change that.
Sontag says that throughout history, things focused on in art and history tend to be the product of
wrath, divine or human. There is much art showing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strange need is not a new thing, since this focus on violence went all the way back to
Christian and pagan art.
In war, photography and art again serve the purpose of acknowledging and sometimes protesting
suffering. In the First World War cameras were used for military intelligence, to capture an event.
The caption of a photograph is traditionally neutral informative: a date, a place, names. A
photograph is supposed to just record what happened and not takes sides. However, it is always
the image that someone chose; to photograph is to frame, and to frame is to exclude. So the
photograph is supposed to be neutral, but the photographer is still deciding what details to focus
on. The caption has just facts on it, because supposedly that is what the photograph is recording.
While it is true that photographs cannot explain everything themselves, they do serve as visual aids
to, what otherwise be, a pallid world.
Goya was an artist who made etchings called The Disasters Of War. These etchings showed the
horrible things that were done by Napoleon s soldiers. They were made in order to shock the
viewer and make them feel the pain of what happened. These sketches did not go in narrative order
or show exact details of an event, they were just images showing that bad things like that happen
during war. Normal captions have dates and places written which detach the viewer from the pain
of the picture. On his sketches,

Lord Of The Flies Individual Vs Society Analysis
A frequent theme in literature is the conflict between the individual and society. In Lord of the
Flies by William Golding, Piggy struggles the most out of all the boys with the society on the
island. He is not used to surviving in the wilderness, hunting, and taking care of himself with no
help from grown ups. He attempts many times to change the violent island society to the orderly
society they had back home in England, but the others refuse listen.
Piggy is dedicated to the ideals of order and civilization. He seems to fit in least of all on the island.
When they first realize that they have crash landed on an island, Piggy can not believe that there
are no grown ups, and asks, Aren t there any grownups at all? (8). He relies on the ... Show more

However, this is very important to the story. He keeps people calm, tries to enforce rules, and

bloodthirsty and cruel. His refusal to fall into savagery and violence like the other boys did shows

Star Life Cycle Essay
The first stage in the life cycle of a star is the Nebula. A Nebula is a swirling sea of dust and gas
but, it is not a star yet. Over time, the dust and gas will collect into a ball that sweeps through the
Nebula. The ball of gas and dust then begins to grow.
The Nebula becomes a Protostar, the second stage of a star s life cycle, once the ball of gas and
dust starts to shrink because of it s own mass and gravity. The Protostar is still not a star yet. At
this stage it can be up to 100x larger than our Sun! The Protostar will keep shrinking and start to
heat up, until it becomes roughly the size of our Sun.
The Protostar becomes an Infrared once it reaches this size of our Sun. The Infrared is still not a

This is the fourth stage of a star s life cycle. The Star diameter will be about 700,000 km. An
average star will live for about 10 billion years in this stage. Our Sun is only about 5 billion years
old. After the Infrared becomes a Star, it will continue to burn changing more of its Hydrogen into
Helium. Eventually the Hydrogen begins to run out, until the Star becomes a Red Giant.
The Red Giant is stage five of a star s life cycle and this fiery ball of nuclear fusion is about
50,000,000 km in diameter! The inner core of the Red Giant begins to shrink, and get hotter.
Then, the outer layers begin to separate from the inner layers and the Red Giant becomes larger in
size. Over time it could completely lose it s outer layer and start to shrink again.
The second to last stage could result in the Red Giant shrinking until it becomes a White Dwarf or
the Red Giant continuing to shrink until it explodes. If the outcome is a White Dwarf, it would
create a small, hot, hard to see star that is smaller than the Earth. If the outcome is an explosion, it
would result in the remnants of the core and a Nova or Supernova, which is a mass spitting off
dust and gases that would start the entire star life cycle over

there are loads out there which provide physical evidence proving the truth behind it. Not

because the US government know there are more demands than supplies and they cannot handle it,
financially. They have a desire for world depopulation and are encouraging the use of bioweapons...

When customers pay a premium on their insurance, BH then takes that premium paid and uses it

For the more technical stock picker, it is a good thing to know that BH has had a steady
appreciation over the years with the exception of 2008; being the largest decline known for BH.
The good news is that unlike a lot of companies that suffered from the 2008 crisis BH came out
of it head strong and has surpassed the previous price at which the decline began. These stocks
are the type that long term investors like. This is because they can survive crises such as the one
six years ago. Moreover the long term investor is good for a company because usually these
investors are the ones attending board meetings and placing votes that best further the company s
success. In contrast there is the short term investor who, most of the time, only cares about a
profit and lacks the interest in the long term life of the company. This is not the case for BH,
however. If an investor wants secure long term gains than BH is certainly the best choice. If
someone begs to differ just take a look at some of the key statistics. Looking at the statistics of a
company is what nearly every professional investor does. You

War doesn t determine who s right, it only determines who s left, however, war can mean different
things to different people in some examples, it may be heroic to fight for your country where for
others it is devastating and dehumanising. The films such as The Pianist by Roman Polanski to
Blackadder Goodbyeee demonstrate how the war dehumanises people while the American sniper
and Dulcie et show that war can be heroic and great to fight for your country. Which signifies that
the motives you have for fighting a war determines your attitude towards it.

Mad Cous Disease or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy Essay
Although mad cow disease is always fatal, it is not really much of a worry in the United States.
There have only been four cases of mad cow disease ever recorded in the United States. In every
case, the United States Department of Agriculture has intervened and recalled tons of beef,
10,400 lbs. in the first case to be exact, in order to insure that the meat did not reach the plates of
United States citizens. In Canada, however, there have been 19 cases of mad cow disease. This
differs considerably from that of the United States. The interesting thing about all of the disease is
that the first case of mad cow disease was imported. The first case of mad cow disease in Canada

With this being said, mad cow disease is also always fatal. Any cow that has ever been diagnosed
with mad cow disease has died from the disease. I, personally, am surprised that doctors have not
been able to at least slow down the effects of this disease. So, without needing to be said, mad cow
disease is a cow s biggest nightmare. The effects of mad cow disease on cattle are very obvious.
This disease is not one in which you see a cow grazing and it looks perfectly fine, but a disease in
which the cow looks as if it has no control over its own body and mindlessly wanders around. That
is because having no control over its own body is exactly what happens. As you may or may not
know, cows tend to stay pretty closely together in a field. Well, a cow with mad cow disease will
not necessarily stay with the herd. It may wander off completely from the herd for no apparent
reason at all. You may also see a mad cow disease ridden cow stagger and miss steps. This is just
another sign of mad cow disease in cattle. When a cow gets certain types of sicknesses or illnesses,
it may lose weight. Well, the same can be said for a cow with mad cow disease. As a result of the
cow losing a lot of weight, it will also become very weak and it may also become hard for it to hold
itself up for very long. Now, I m not saying that any cow that loses weight because of an illness
has mad cow disease, but it is one of the effects

The international aviation industry is arguably one of the most competitive and cut throat
businesses in the world today. Characterised by high revenue but notoriously thin profit margins,
modern international airlines are constantly searching for methods to gain advantages over their
competitors and attract new customers. One of these methods which has become popular since the
late 1990s is that of the global airline alliance. Today there are three major alliances in operation,

Another major airline alliance operating today is the Oneworld alliance. Founded on 1
February 1999 by giants such as British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, it has expanded to
include twelve member airlines, and has an additional twenty non voting affiliate members,
such as QantasLink, subsidiary of Qantas, and Dragonair, subsidiary of Cathay Pacific.
Oneworld also won the Skytrax award for best airline alliance in 2010, and has won more
international awards than the other two main alliances (Oneworld, 2011). However, some may
argue that the quantity of awards received is irrelevant, and the awards by Skytrax are
recognised by many as the leading airline awards. Oneworld is also a useful alliance for New
Zealand based travellers, as Qantas membership allows frequent travellers access to the benefits of
this alliance.
Skyteam was the last of the three major airline alliances to be founded, in June 2000. According to

with schizoid personality disorder tend to be seen as cold and indifferent of other people.
Fascinatingly, homelessness is seen as widespread with people who have schizoid personality

up causing Hamlet s unfortunate end. If he hadn t of murdered Polonius, then Laertes wouldn t
have wanted revenge for the death of his father. If not for the murder, Hamlet would probably still
be alive. The impact of Polonius death was greater on Ophelia than on her brother. After Hamlet
was sent to England, Ophelia was left alone without a father and confused from the actions of
Hamlet. While Hamlet was only acting crazy, acting selfishly

Ovid s Metamorphoses Sexuality
When one becomes familiar with mythology through Ovid s Metamorphoses, a collection of
preexisting myths, strung together with the unifying theme of metamorphosis and divine
intervention, a new language of allusions is discovered. This is used by Christopher Marlowe to
better express the themes of beauty and sexuality through an Ovidian aesthetic in his epyllion, Hero
and Leander. Marlowe writes of two naГЇve lovers, equal in beauty, separated by the Hellespont,
Leander in Abydos and Hero in Sestos. During the festival of Venus and Adonis in Sestos, Leander
falls in love with Venus nun, Hero, who vowed chastity to the goddess. Despite this, Leander
continues to court her with passionate and persuasive language. Hero overcome by her own feelings,

Throughout the story, Hero has struggled with her love for Leander and dedication to Venus. In
her first amorous meeting with Leander He asked, she gave and nothing was denied; ... / And what
he did, she willingly requited (509, 512). This encounter does not seem to go further than
embracing and sweet kisses, so Hero was able to both love Leander and respect her vow. Leander,
however, seems to be overwhelmed with his newly discovered sexual desire and eager to act on it.
When he does after reaching Hero s tower, she tries to hide but is at his mercy. The girl who before
was enamored with Love s holy fire, with words, with sighs and tears / Which like sweet music
entered Hero s ears (193 194) is now left to believe: Love is not full of pity, as men say, / But deaf
and cruel, where he means to prey (771 772). Leander s words, which once pleased Hero, spoke
over and dismissed Hero s hesitance; Leander s hands, she lovingly held, are now said to resemble a
snare for prey, showing the deafness and cruelty of

area.
The Cronulla, Kurnell and Wanda region sites are ecologically and culturally significant. The
Cronulla, Wanda and Kurnell areas are filled with beautiful beaches, magnificent headlands and
various other wonderful features, being well over 15000 years old this region showcases some
magnificent attractions. These regions however are now faced with issues regarding enviromental
degradation and habitat endangerment. There are many issues however some of the more
significant problems are erosion, longshore drift and high rise development. There are three key

Erosion is unfortuanately present at Cronulla beach, the local government have tried to tackle this
problem with solution such as dune stabilization and rip rap walls. Rip rap walls are when larged
rocks are piled in a certain angle to catch drifting sand and protect the beaches from harsher waves
and to protect buildings from high tides. There are also many programs which help to ensure the
stabilization of dunes, these include the planting of new vegetation to combat erosion, fencing
and designated walkways to prevent human interference. The main reason of dune stabilization
is to slow down the speed of erosion. In 1974 the Cronulla beaches were at an all time low and
was in a critical state, from this the University of New South Wales designed a new wall, a wall
which is different from the conventional walls used to prevent erosion and transportation with
these hexagonal concrete blocks weigh well over a tonne each to be used as a line of defence
agiasnt the waves and erosion. These concrete walls over a period of time have increased the size
of the beach. Enviromental organisations have tried there best to limit the amount of man made
deveoplment on coastal lads and many schools participating in annual events to protect and save the
sand dunes. The government has also

Disadvantages Of Intestine
Improve your health by knowing more about the intestine.
Intestine is the key to one s beauty and health as well as ageing.
The intestine is not just an organ that handles digestion, nutrient absorption and excretion.
Intestine problems are often associated with constipation.
Constipation can cause stomach to bulge and many people are concerned about it. However, this is
just one example caused by the deteriorating intestinal environment.
Other than digestion, nutrient absorption and excretion, the intestine has other functions which are
less known. Such functions are closely related to the whole human body.
This is why when one s intestinal environment deteriorates, it does not simply cause stomachache
and constipation.

It is a micro algae with both plant and animal characteristics.
Euglena is a type of micro algae, about 0.05mm long, that thrives in freshwater. It has existed since
500 million years ago.
It is a rare living organism where it can carry out photosynthesis like a plant. At the same time, it
has the ability to move on it s own like an animal.
Euglena is loaded with a rich variety of nutrients.
Nutrients from both plant and animal sources can be found in euglena. In addition, since euglena
does not have a hard cellulose cell wall, its nutrients are easily digested and absorbed by the human
body.
DHA, EPA amino acids found in animal sources.
Vitamins, minerals found in plant sources.
Euglena holds vast potential for use as a resource and a food ingredient.
It can be used as a food ingredient that contains excellent characteristics and rich in nutrients. It can

a conversation with Charles Palantine, a presidential candidate, about what bothers him the most
about the United States. Charles Palantine s question to Travis is vague that it could be about any

another was seen as murder. Bernhard Goetz, is famously known as the Subway Vigilante
because he shot four young men that he claimed tried to mug him. Bernhard, explains that he felt

Through their body language and and small exchange of words Bernhard removed him hidden
gun and shot each teenager injuring 3 and leaving one paralyzed. From there Bernhard fled the
scene and turned himself in eight days after the incident. At the end of the trial he was found not
guilt for all counts except for carrying an unlicensed firearm, which he served eight months for. It
was agreed that Bernhard was defending himself from a potentially violent mugging, yet the
question arises then if this was an act of self defense why did he flee the scene and hid from the
police for over a week. Additionally the teenagers never laid a hand on Bernhard, but through the
judgement of his peers it was justified for him to use excessive force to defend himself. After the
trial Bernhard was viewed as a celebrity and hero for cleaning the streets, he was awarded deals to

The Impact Of Religion On American History
Religion has come to become a very controlling aspect of people s lives throughout the world.
The very essence of having a faith background to rely on is very comforting for humankind. Since
religion has grown to be such a vital role in shaping people s views and decisions, religious
conflict has also sprouted up (Olmstead). It has also been the reason for many wars throughout
history. Religionas a source of ideal and morale has gone on for years. In this research paper, I
will be investigating the effect religion has played in American wars, specifically. Moreover, I will
address the key aspects of religion that can be seen to have influenced American history. The key
tenets, which show why religion has been at the forefront of American conflict, are the concepts of
ideology, morale, and democracy.
Ideology has started off when the first colonists came to America. This ideology has continued on
for years in the way American has dealt with issues such as war. But moreover, it has integrated
with religion to be a direct effect on wars we have been in. Morale has also been one of the central
points of why America has responded to so many religious conflicts in America the way they have.
And lastly, religion has been instrumental in imparting democracy through out America s history of
wars.
American history, itself starts off with religion and faith. Many people forget that America was
founded on the basis of people trying to flee religious persecution in England. So,

There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or
modular approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally,
when a mass can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite
number of degrees of freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter
system). On the other hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an
infinite number of degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is
best to be modeled as a continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid
models which combine lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic... Show more

However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system
is not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models
require modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur.
As already mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential
equations due to all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable.
However, these equations can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In
practice, the solution of a homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions
illustrates the behavior of the system after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no
further force. In addition to this, the solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number
of natural frequencies. On the contrary, the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the
behavior of the system to specific forces (Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used
for solving the non homogeneous equation of motion. According to this method, the steady state
response to exciting forces is calculated by transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer
elements than the lumped mass approach in order to create a realistic model. This method contains
terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it requires the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Conan O Brien
For the last 20 years, literally my entire adult life, I ve been a diehard fan of late night talk show
host Conan O Brien. Not only did I watch the various iterations of his show throughout the years
from Late Night, The Tonight Show, to CONAN religiously for most of that time, but I ve
ventured across the country to see him live several times. In fact, just last year, I achieved one of
my goals of personally meeting Conan and getting a picture with him. It happened after attending
one of his tapings during a week of shows at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. I ve admired
Conan for his humor, intelligence, and inspiring words of wisdom he s given over the years (his

Israeli appropriation of Arab food is nothing new. Things got a whole lot worse from there.
A couple of days later, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted a short video of
him hosting Conan in Jerusalem. There are no words to describe the disappointment I felt when
I saw that. It was bad enough Conan went to Israel and violated the BDS call, but to take
company with a man who imposes an apartheid regime on Palestinians and who should be tried
for war crimes was simply inexcusable. The day after, Conan made a token visit to Bethlehem
and spent time with children from the Aida Refugee Camp. Commendable, but ironic given that
he had just been the guest of Netanyahu who d prefer to have Palestinians stay in refugee camps
and live without equal rights as Jewish Israelis. To add salt to the wound, Conan later met with
female soldiers from the Karkl Battalion in the Israeli army (IDF). My jaw dropped. He was
straight up participating in Israeli propaganda and the IDF was more than happy to tweet about it.
I couldn t believe it. As Benjamin Norton tweeted in reply to the IDF s tweet, Conan O Brien doing
PR with an army that kills Palestinians and illegally occupies and colonizes their land. Indeed,
hanging out with soldiers who enforce apartheid and carry out assaults on an oppressed civilization
population is reprehensible. Conan shouldn t have met and dined with Netanyahu nor cavorted

graduate is put into the job market, who knows if they will be able to make important company

these things for their son or daughter all their life, they are not going to know how to handle

The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery And The Los...
West Los Angeles is home to two prominent cemeteries: the Westwood Village Memorial Park
Cemetery and the Los Angeles National Cemetery. The Westwood Cemetery was constructed in
1905, serving as the rest place for many famous individuals within the entertainment industry.
Famous names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack
Lemmon are buried at this gravesite. Nearly less than a mile away from this cemeteryis the Los
Angeles National Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members
of the armed forces who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two
distinct cemeteries may only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also
symbolize many cultural aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park
Cemetery and the Veterans Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by
perpetuating the idea of gender bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and
imprinting religious affiliation. Through tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the
tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both cemeteries embody contemporary
American and Los Angeles culture.
The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery contains some of the most prominent figures in
Hollywood. In addition, the cemetery is the burial site of many common individuals. In comparison

Descriptive Essay About The Nyonya Shop

Assignment 2 The Nyonya Shop (Final Draft)
Up close, the shop is surprisingly grand and majestic, unlike the view I had from a distance with
its baby blue and lemon green pastel exterior reminding me of a newborn s nursery. Its vivid
colours makes it easy to spot along the mundane East Coast Road, but the golden carvings of a
wide range of flora and fauna that I now see in fine detail, add to this notion of grandeur. The
shades grew bolder as I approach, shifting from the sweet candy like pastel colour to the splash of
persian blue which highlights the ambience of Asian culture around the shop. The numbers 1928
boldly stand out in white stucco above a dark green awning giving a sense of antiquity. Encrusting
that curious date are a collection of geometric patterns which match the lemon green window sills
differing only in the rich pink added to accentuate the significance of the numbers.
As I pause under the shelter of an arch, I feel as if time has frozen and I am in a bygone day among
the glory of the Peranakans, offspring of Chinese and Malays who lived and worked here. ... Show

Pip s Sense Of Social Antipathy In Charles DickensGreat...
When reading the novel Great expectations, one often comes to the conclusion that Pip s sense
of social inferiority is the source of his self antipathy and that this feeling of inadequacy is first
conceived when introduced to Estella. However, these thoughts are not formed when he first
encounters her and the Satis House, nor are they intensified by her scorn and ridicule. Instead,
her contempt gives him a way of coping with the sense of worthlessness he has carried
throughout his childhood. Pip s perception of what is required of him when receiving his
inheritance simply obscures the significances of his initial experiences that resulted in him having
these emotions. The conditions of Pip s childhood generate intense feelings of deficiency, anxiety,
and guilt. His first most vivid and broad impression of the identity of things (Dickens 3) is that he
is a helpless orphan who lives in a threatening world. These strong emotions are epitomized by
Magwitch, who threatens him with the future notion of violence and gruesome actions. Magwitch
s question of whether Pip is to be let to live (Dickens 5) is one that resonates throughout his
childhood, which is filled with a sense of helplessness and danger, similar to that of which the
convict generates. His encounter with Magwitch is so consequential because it encapsulates, in a
very extreme way, his everyday ordeals. This is shown by his abusive and overbearing sister,
whom he strongly depends on. She continually shows

A Biomechanical Analysis of the Roundhouse Kick
Anatomical Analysis
Tae Kwon Do is a Korean, unarmed martial art and is best known for its kicks (Park, 2001). The
roundhouse kick is a turning kick and happens to be the most commonly used kick during
competition (Lee, 1996). For this reason, the roundhouse kick will be analyzed in reference to
sparring competition. The roundhouse kick, a multiplanar skill, starts with the kicking leg traveling
in an arc towards the front with the knee in a chambered position (Pearson, 1997). The knee is
extended in a snapping movement, striking the opponent with the top of the foot. One s goal would
be to make front torso contact with the kick, while avoiding leaving one s self open to a counter
strike. The movements that comprise the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, because the primary goal is to achieve optimum velocity, optimum momentum is obtained
through angular impulse. The series of movements before contact with the target attempts a kinetic
chain with an efficient sequence of movements previously noted in the description of the
preparatory phase (Champion, 2002). The internal muscles move first, such as the serape and spinal
flexors and rotators, out to the Gluteus maximus, to the Rectus femoris, transferring the large body
movements from the trunk to the smaller body segments of the foot. If the movements are timed
correctly, one will have maximum speed upon reaching the next movement, until the point of
application (Champion, 2002).
Another valuable aspect to consider is drag, which is a resistance force slowing down the motion
of the leg and foot through the fluid medium, air (Hall, 1999). The most relevant form of drag
here is surface drag, where the size of one s leg and the increased surface area created by the
traditional uniform, in addition to its texture play prominent roles in decreasing the velocity of the
kick.
Once the kick has been executed, impact must be taken into account. The result of the impact of
one s foot with the opponent s front

  • 3. The Stages Of Cognitive Development Children grow through a chain of four serious stages of cognitive development, according to Jean Piaget, who is a well recognized psychologist. Through the observations he made of children, Piaget established a theory of development involving four stages: the sensorimotor stage, which is from birth to the age 2, the preoperational stage, from age 2 to about the age of 7 and the concrete operational stage, ranging from age 7 to 11. The last stage of his development was the formal operational stage, which begins in adolescence and spans into adulthood (The 4 stages). Piaget said the most outstanding features of behavior happen within the first 2 years of children lives. The child s world cannot be showed mentally, so in a very literal sense, articles exist only when the child can physically see them for themselves. When objects are not seen by them, then they to fail to even exist to the child. This shows the idea of object permanenceto the child, which is knowing the solidity of an object. The Sensorimotor stage is measured by children facing the world through senses that they use every day. The children s thoughts are egocentric, which means that they cannot understand or see the world through someone else s perspective other than their own (Jean Piaget). Infants start to learn the world through their own movements and sensations every day. Learning everyday activities such as sucking, grasping, and looking help in this stage of development. My Observations At Rose Rock School Commenced My observations at Rose Rock School commenced at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, I climbed the steps to get the doors and knocked on the door and only then noticed a small sign that said for people to use the back door. The front door was then opened by a woman that asked if I was Megan, I said yes. When I walked in I noticed that the roomshad no doors and the first room had most likely been a living room and the room next to it a dining room. The lady that had let me in said she would get Shanah and let her know I was here. I met Shanah and she explained that I would be observing in the room that is next to the living room and that parents start dropping off their children at eight in the morning. While we talked, I asked Shanah how many children are in her group and she said thirteen children, which included her own son that is one and a half years old. As we talked, the children started arriving and she got them to sit down at the table and told them that they were going to make art craft for their mother for mother s day. While Shanah was cutting the cloth, another caregiver came into the room and I asked her what the ages the children in this group was and she replied that the children in this group were between 1 ВЅ and 6 years old. • 10. Fear In Dragonwings It s 5:15 AM, and the streets are quiet. By 5:30, the streets are torn apart, and rubble is strewn everywhere. What happened in those fifteen minutes was the San Fransisco earthquake. When you look at Comprehending the Calamity by Emma Burke and Laurence Yep s Dragonwings, you can truly imagine the extent of the damage and fear, even though Burke s purpose is to inform, while Yep s is to entertain. Emma Burke s point of view of the earthquake in Comprehending the Calamity was that it was violent, and hard to understand. She states that No one can comprehend the calamity to San Francisco in its entirety... (Burke, 1). This explains to us that the damage caused by the earthquake must have been devastating.. She also describes the extreme force of the earthquake, saying The shock came, and hurled my bed against an opposite wall... Analysis Of Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings The world of literature has been dominated by males throughout most of history; this is due to the fact that women we re thought of as inferior to men. Over the last 100 years women have been proving themselves in this sexist society, especially in the world of literature poetry, to be more specific. Two names come to mind when thinking of great female poets: Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson. Even thought both of these women we re outstanding poets, they had quite different styles of writing due to the difference in time periods, experiences, and culture. As time goes by, society is influenced in different ways due to human evolution. This was true for both Maya Angelou and Emily Dickinson. Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928. This means she was born right in the middle of segregation. This influenced Angelou because she was an African American woman who wrote about freedom for her people. The best example would be her famous novel and poem I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. The book is about her life struggles and the poem is a metaphor about a bird that seeks freedom. The final stanzaof the poem reads The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. This excerpt of the poem demonstrates how she yearned for her people to get the freedom they deserved. The comparison of the caged bird and the bird that s free can be seen in many different ways. The cane toads poisonous abilities allow it to protect itself from predators it may have in Australia. These abilities also allow the toads to capture their prey with more ease because their prey are not immune to their poison. Source 2 states, cane toads kill native predators such as the quoll, a cat like marsupial . Walker describes the two girls as being extremely different on the inside and out. The first daughter, Dee, is well educated and gorgeous girl who does not understand the real meaning behind heritage. On the other hand, maggie, the second daughter, is the complete opposite of Dee by understanding heritage while having little education and being physically scarred by their old house burning down. Though these characters are sisters, it is obvious that they are nothing alike. This is how Walker wants the reader to perceive her characters and understand their purpose throughout the story. To accomplish this, Walker uses these character s actions, interactions, thoughts, and feelings to develop apparent differences between the two girls. Alice Walker develops Dee as selfish all throughout the story, evident through her feelings and actions. Abstract Of Electromagnetic Automatic Checkout System Essay ABSTRACT Electromagnetic Automatic Checkout System (EMACOS) is a self checkout system for providing collective information systems with the identity of each physical item carrying Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in the supply chain in an automated and timely manner. The real time availability of item identity allows the items to be scanned and checked out for a faster, more accurately and an automatized service, leading to increase timeliness. In the context of supply chain operations, universal introduction of such system shows a major probability to overhaul and enhance self checkout systems, process management and stock management. Theme Of Romantic Love In Pride And Prejudice E choing Austen s irony, it is a truth universally acknowledged that romantic literature will return to the refined days of Jane Austen and the BrontГ« sisters. All mockery aside, Austen s celebrated Pride and Prejudice (1813) is a simple love story that continues to captivate audiences 200 years on. Romantic literature has grown into modern, sloppy rom coms luckily, we can always return to their roots: the timeless allure of Elizabeth and Darcy. Romantic love in literature re emerged from the seedling of Pride and Prejudice; its light hearted yet layered language was a well deserved break from the stultifying conventions of Regency England. Every romantic comedysince has echoed Austen s strong and vivacious heroine Elizabeth. Rather, some of the most important ingredients of Pride and Prejudice s acclaim, are the reader s expectation of a small world plot and eloquent manipulation of style . The growing movement of romanticism allowed Pride and Prejudice to be published in a world relatively alien to novels focussed on romantic love. In fact, it was a world fairly alien to romantic love in general, allowing Austen to set a new archetype for romantic comedy. Often times these images graphically show the cruelty of mankind. In her book, Regarding the Pain of Others, Susan Sontag asks, What does it mean to protest suffering, as distinct from acknowledging it? To acknowledge suffering is just to capture it, to point it out and show somebody else that it exists. In order to protest suffering, there has to be some sort of moral decision that what is shown in the photograph is wrong, and a want from the viewer to change that. The caption of a photograph is traditionally neutral informative: a date, a place, names. A photograph is supposed to just record what happened and not takes sides. For the more technical stock picker, it is a good thing to know that BH has had a steady appreciation over the years with the exception of 2008; being the largest decline known for BH. The good news is that unlike a lot of companies that suffered from the 2008 crisis BH came out of it head strong and has surpassed the previous price at which the decline began. These stocks are the type that long term investors like. This is because they can survive crises such as the one six years ago. So, without needing to be said, mad cow disease is a cow s biggest nightmare. The effects of mad cow disease on cattle are very obvious. This disease is not one in which you see a cow grazing and it looks perfectly fine, but a disease in which the cow looks as if it has no control over its own body and mindlessly wanders around. That is because having no control over its own body is exactly what happens. As you may or may not know, cows tend to stay pretty closely together in a field. Well, a cow with mad cow disease will not necessarily stay with the herd. It may wander off completely from the herd for no apparent reason at all. You may also see a mad cow disease ridden cow stagger and miss steps. This is just another sign of mad cow disease in cattle. When a cow gets certain types of sicknesses or illnesses, it may lose weight. Well, the same can be said for a cow with mad cow disease. As a result of the cow losing a lot of weight, it will also become very weak and it may also become hard for it to hold itself up for very long. Characterised by high revenue but notoriously thin profit margins, modern international airlines are constantly searching for methods to gain advantages over their competitors and attract new customers. One of these methods which has become popular since the late 1990s is that of the global airline alliance. Oneworld also won the Skytrax award for best airline alliance in 2010, and has won more international awards than the other two main alliances (Oneworld, 2011). There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or modular approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally, when a mass can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite number of degrees of freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter system). On the other hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an infinite number of degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is best to be modeled as a continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid models which combine lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system is not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models require modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur. As already mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential equations due to all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable. However, these equations can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In practice, the solution of a homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions illustrates the behavior of the system after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no further force. In addition to this, the solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number of natural frequencies. On the contrary, the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the behavior of the system to specific forces (Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used for solving the non homogeneous equation of motion. According to this method, the steady state response to exciting forces is calculated by transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer elements than the lumped mass approach in order to create a realistic model. This method contains terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it requires the ... If an over involved parent has done these things for their son or daughter all their life, they are not going to know how to handle specific situations in which they will need a select set of skills. Parents are losing the true focus of parenting because they are too attached. Parents should realize that if a person does not work hard, they can t achieve great things like they want for their children. The Fine Art of Letting Go is an article that appeared in the news magazine, Newsweek, written by Barbara Kantrowitz and Peg Tyre. The article discusses many causes and consequences of hovering parents, as well as personal experiences from hovering parents. Kantrowitz is responsible for many cover stories on education, social trends, and health in Newsweek since 1985. • 50. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery And The Los... West Los Angeles is home to two prominent cemeteries: the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and the Los Angeles National Cemetery. The Westwood Cemetery was constructed in 1905, serving as the rest place for many famous individuals within the entertainment industry. Famous names such as Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin, Natalie Wood, Roy Orbison, and Jack Lemmon are buried at this gravesite. Nearly less than a mile away from this cemeteryis the Los Angeles National Cemetery. Established in 1889, this national cemetery is home to many members of the armed forces who have actively served in the military and/or law enforcement. These two distinct cemeteries may only appear to share relativity through their short distance, but they also symbolize many cultural aspects of the American ideology. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery and the Veterans Cemetery reinforces American societal conformities and ideals by perpetuating the idea of gender bias, displaying extreme idolization of celebrity status, and imprinting religious affiliation. Through tombstone appearance, cultural imprints on the tombstones, and categorization of the tombstones, both cemeteries embody contemporary American and Los Angeles culture. The Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery contains some of the most prominent figures in Hollywood. In addition, the cemetery is the burial site of many common individuals. In comparison to the Veterans Cemetery, the Westwood village Cemetery is extremely small ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Descriptive Essay About The Nyonya Shop Hoon Xin Yu Assignment 2 The Nyonya Shop (Final Draft) Up close, the shop is surprisingly grand and majestic, unlike the view I had from a distance with its baby blue and lemon green pastel exterior reminding me of a newborn s nursery. Its vivid colours makes it easy to spot along the mundane East Coast Road, but the golden carvings of a wide range of flora and fauna that I now see in fine detail, add to this notion of grandeur. The shades grew bolder as I approach, shifting from the sweet candy like pastel colour to the splash of persian blue which highlights the ambience of Asian culture around the shop. The numbers 1928 boldly stand out in white stucco above a dark green awning giving a sense of antiquity. Encrusting that curious date are a collection of geometric patterns which match the lemon green window sills differing only in the rich pink added to accentuate the significance of the numbers. As I pause under the shelter of an arch, I feel as if time has frozen and I am in a bygone day among the glory of the Peranakans, offspring of Chinese and Malays who lived and worked here. ... She wears her spectacles low on her nose bridge and smile thinly from the counter across from where I stood. She is wearing a pair of tight fitting black trousers and loose purple blouse with an embroidered peony in a dark shade of purple emblazoned on her chest which unwittingly added definition to her streak of red dye hair. I m fine. Just looking around. I replied. The woman then turns to serve a few Japanese tourists at the back from the shop looking at the gold and silver Serangkai Brooches that female Peranakans, Nyonyas wear with their traditional costume. • 52. Pip s Sense Of Social Antipathy In Charles DickensGreat... When reading the novel Great expectations, one often comes to the conclusion that Pip s sense of social inferiority is the source of his self antipathy and that this feeling of inadequacy is first conceived when introduced to Estella. However, these thoughts are not formed when he first encounters her and the Satis House, nor are they intensified by her scorn and ridicule. Instead, her contempt gives him a way of coping with the sense of worthlessness he has carried throughout his childhood. Pip s perception of what is required of him when receiving his inheritance simply obscures the significances of his initial experiences that resulted in him having these emotions. The conditions of Pip s childhood generate intense feelings of deficiency, anxiety, and guilt. His first most vivid and broad impression of the identity of things (Dickens 3) is that he is a helpless orphan who lives in a threatening world. These strong emotions are epitomized by Magwitch, who threatens him with the future notion of violence and gruesome actions. Magwitch s question of whether Pip is to be let to live (Dickens 5) is one that resonates throughout his childhood, which is filled with a sense of helplessness and danger, similar to that of which the convict generates. His encounter with Magwitch is so consequential because it encapsulates, in a very extreme way, his everyday ordeals. This is shown by his abusive and overbearing sister, whom he strongly depends on. She continually shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. A Biomechanical Analysis of the Roundhouse Kick Anatomical Analysis Tae Kwon Do is a Korean, unarmed martial art and is best known for its kicks (Park, 2001). The roundhouse kick is a turning kick and happens to be the most commonly used kick during competition (Lee, 1996). For this reason, the roundhouse kick will be analyzed in reference to sparring competition. The roundhouse kick, a multiplanar skill, starts with the kicking leg traveling in an arc towards the front with the knee in a chambered position (Pearson, 1997). The knee is extended in a snapping movement, striking the opponent with the top of the foot. One s goal would be to make front torso contact with the kick, while avoiding leaving one s self open to a counter strike. The movements that comprise the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... H=mk2z However, because the primary goal is to achieve optimum velocity, optimum momentum is obtained through angular impulse. The series of movements before contact with the target attempts a kinetic chain with an efficient sequence of movements previously noted in the description of the preparatory phase (Champion, 2002). The internal muscles move first, such as the serape and spinal flexors and rotators, out to the Gluteus maximus, to the Rectus femoris, transferring the large body movements from the trunk to the smaller body segments of the foot. If the movements are timed correctly, one will have maximum speed upon reaching the next movement, until the point of application (Champion, 2002). Another valuable aspect to consider is drag, which is a resistance force slowing down the motion of the leg and foot through the fluid medium, air (Hall, 1999). The most relevant form of drag here is surface drag, where the size of one s leg and the increased surface area created by the traditional uniform, in addition to its texture play prominent roles in decreasing the velocity of the kick. Once the kick has been executed, impact must be taken into account. The result of the impact of one s foot with the opponent s front ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
