Discuss how Sherriff presents human weakness and frailty in Journeys End
Journeys End was written with the intention of letting the war speak . The lives of the officers on
the front line during 1917 are examined. A key theme that is explored throughout the play is the
reactions of the mind and body, under the stress of the war. Each character represents the weakness
of the human being in an individual way, but the character on which frailty is mainly focussed is
Stanhope.
Stanhope is the topic of many conversations within the dugout and the first conversation we see,
Stanhope is mentioned. The conversation is between Osborne, the second in command, and the
commanding officer of the company being relieved. The commander inquires as to ... Show more

Sherriff shows this to the audience by having Raleigh describe the war like a game at school, using
words such as cricket and rugger , which show the youth, innocence and naivety of Raleigh. When
the reality becomes clear, Raleigh s attitude towards the war changes dramatically.
The death of Raleigh at the end of the play sums up his characteristics in the best possible way, his
innocence is shown until his final moments when he compares the wound in his back to be just
the same as getting kicked in a game of rugger . His death signifies much more than the passing of
one soldier, added with Raleigh passing, the candle flame extinguishing, shows the death of society
in 1917 and of innocence, showing how nothing could return to the way it was in the years
previous to the war.
After the raid which occurs near the end of the play, Raleigh s view on the war has changed after
he witnesses the first deaths of people he knew. He questions as to how Stanhope can stay drinking
champagne whilst Osborne s body is lying out there . Again this shows the audience just how
naГЇve Raleigh is, as he has never experienced the loss of someone close to him and the effect that
the war has on people.
Despite Raleigh s innocence and weakness, he is determined to fight until the end, showing that his
character (although naГЇve) has

Augusten Burroughs s Running With Scissors
A Life of Running All writers have a story to tell about themselves. This story consists of their past,
and the sort of events that occured to get them to where they are today. In his memoir Running With
Scissors, Augusten Burroughs tells the story of his rough upbringing and unusual teenage years,
and how it leads to his writingcareer. Burroughs lives his childhood amidst his constantly arguing,
dysfunctional parents. To distract himself from this, he develops an obsession with organization
and shininess. He dreams to become a doctor, or a television actor playing a doctor, and to live in
a world filled with crisp, white jackets. He even intentionally injures himself in order to go to the
doctor s office and experience this world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christmas trees will stay up year round, holes will be sawed in the ceiling for natural light, and
months will be spent living completely in the front yard. Over time, Burroughs becomes
accustomed to this sporadic way of life, even though part of him wishes that he could just be
normal.
In addition, Burroughs becomes involved in an intense homosexual relationship with the Finches
older adopted son, Neil Bookman. The Finch family does not mind, and this continues for years.
Bookman develops an obsession over Burroughs, who enjoys maintaining power over the older
man. However, Bookman eventually runs away one night, and is never heard from again.
Natalie, one of the Finch daughters who is close to Burrough s age, eventually becomes his best
friend. They get involved in all sorts of antics together, and explore the world around them. When
they turn eighteen, they leave the Finch house and attempt to start a new life of their own.
Burrough s dreams of becoming a doctor change to ones of becoming a hairstylist and creating a
beauty empire, and then back to a doctor as he enrolls as a pre med in community college.
However, he soon withdraws after the realization that it is not for

The Invention Of China s Inventions
On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each
one of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of
the leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people
benefit from today.
One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has
become a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a
variety of fibrous materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would
take up to thirty days to construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held
secret for hundreds of years.
Despite the fact that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a
complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of
machinery.
People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the
ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use
more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology
and different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to
ancient times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives.
Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was
first invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around
the world. Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that
this secret was discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic
empire. It was then discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe.
China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one
end of a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and
shoot the metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today.
The first ingredients that gunpowder was made with was a mixture of sulfur,

Comparing To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and To his Mistress Going to Bed by John
Donne
In recent times I have compared and contrasted two pieces of love poetry, both of which are
exceptionally lyrical and full of intellectual language that bring the poems alive with elaborated
metaphors that compare dissimilar things, as they Inare equally, yet somehow individually both
metaphysical poems. The first of these poems that I comprehended was To his Coy Mistress;
(written by Andrew Marvell during the 17th century), it reflects the epic of a man who is striving
to entice a unadulterated woman into going to bed with him; he does this by using a lot of
romantic flattery and surreal imagery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the most famous of Marvell s lyrics is To His Coy Mistress : Like many of Marvell s
best poems, it masks extraordinary subtlety and complexity beneath a surface of smooth and
deceptively simple octosyllabic couplets. It is, in fact, as perfect an example of the metaphysical
mode as anything by Donne and, for all its cool and witty tone, and passionate lyrics.
John Donne, (1572 1631) is considered the greatest of all metaphysical poets. Donne was educated
at Oxford, Cambridge and Lincoln s Inn. His works of this period, included some of his songs,
sonnets (written as late as 1617), problems and paradoxes, which consisted of cynical, realistic
and often sexual lyrics, essays and verse satires. Donne s court career was ruined by the discovery
of his marriage in 1601 to Anne More and we also imprisoned for a short time; later in 1601, his
poems became a lot more serious. After a long period of financial uncertainty and desperation,
during which he was twice a member of Parliament, Donne yielded to the wishes of King James I
and took orders in 1625. Two years later his wife died. He was made reader in divinity at Lincoln s
inn, a royal chaplain, and in 1621 Dean of St. Paul , a position he held until his death.

community would disapprove and condemn it very reprehensibly, and factors

The collision theory explains all there is to the rate of reaction. The collision theory states that
the rate of reaction depends on how often and how hard the reacting particles collide. Reacting
particles need to collide with each other to be able to react. The more collisions there are then
the faster the rate of reaction will be. The following methods of increasing the rate of reaction
can be explained by increasing the number of collisions between the reacting particles: *
Temperature When the temperature is increased in a reaction the particles begin to move around
much quicker. This means that when they collide with each other they will collide harder. *
Catalyst A catalyst works by giving the reacting particles a surface to stick to on which they can
collide with each other on. This also increases the number of collisions between the particles. *
Size If one of the reactants is a solid it will have a smaller surface area than a solid that is broken
up into smaller pieces. This allows the particles in the solution to have a bigger area to collide in. *
Concentration A more concentrated solution means there are more reactant particles moving about
amongst the water particles. This makes collisions between the reactant particles more

Why Is Spanking Wrong
To spank or not to spank has been a question for parents for many years. Some believe that
spanking is the only way that children will learn to be obedient. They believe in the motto spare
the rod, spoil the child , meaning if parents do not physically discipline, the child is spoiled and
lacks manners. Others, however, believe that exerting physical harm on a child for discipline does
not make sense. They believe that there is always a better way to teach children right from wrong.
Spankingis not an effective form of discipline and can lead to improper behavior.
When a child is acting up, a parent can either teach the child what they did wrong and make it a
learning experience, or react harshly to the behavior of the child and as a result, ... Show more

There has to be an alternative option so the child will learn, not fear.
Editors remarked that in, Spanking Your Children: Good or Bad , the CED studied how
spanking may be effective short term, but there may be consequences later in life. The more
children are spanked, the less they are likely to be mannerly, and well behaved in the future.
They continued on by stating, Spanking does not teach children why their behavior was wrong
or what they should do instead; it teaches children that the only reason to behave appropriately is
to avoid being punished. (2017). This research has proven that there is not only a physical
negative reaction, but a mental one too. CNN mentions that for decades experts have stated that
spanking is not effective because it teaches a child to be scared of his parents and to not respect
them (O Callaghan, 2011). In fact it is dangerous because hitting can injure a child and teach him
or her it is okay to hit someone if they disappoint them. Imagine a grown adult spanking another
adult. This would be considered an assault, and is not acceptable in our society. Therefore, it is not
okay for an adult to hit a child in our day and

Essay on Effects of the Great Depression
The Effects of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a horrible event that took place
almost 100 years ago. It was a time in our society when people had no money and no food.
Everyone was losing their jobs because the companies couldn t afford to pay them and stay in
business at the same time. After the Stock Market crashed and the economy went downhill, a lot
of changes were made within the government to make sure that nothing like this would ever
happen again. This period in time was a sad period, but there were a lot of good things that
happened and took place because of it. In order to really understand all the effects that happened
after the Great Depression, you truly needed to live during the time period, but we can t do... Show

As their lives were filled with sadness and no hope, they would soon learn that all of that was
about to change for them. As the 1932 Presidential elections were coming up, the citizens had to
choose the right person to lead them out of the Great Depression. In November of 1932, the United
States held a Presidential Election that was crucial to America. The voting was a one sided
outcome, as Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election by a landslide over his opponent Herbert
Hoover. In his acceptance speech in 1932 when he was a Democratic Party nominee for running
president, he made a promise to the citizens of America that there would be a new deal for the
American people. He was determined to keep his promise to the citizens of America, that a new
deal was coming. He would later keep that promise and would eventually change the economy for
the better. Roosevelt s New Deal Programs were based on helping the economic problems in
several different ways. The programs that he designed were to help; federal assistance for people
who had lost their jobs, houses, savings, and livelihoods , job creation for the unemployed through
massive public works projects , agricultural assistance for troubled farmers , manufacturing
assistance for troubled industries , stricter banking regulations to prevent bank failures , creation of
the FDIC to protect bank customer s deposits

Now a day, data sharing over web based application has greatly increased which is technically
good. Also application attacks were increased which is very risky as the issue related to
confidentiality, integrity, availability which results in data theft.
According to John Desmond, there are many dangerous application attacks which provides the
access for end user to view system resources and private information s by breaking the network
firewalls (John Desmond, 2004).
In this paper, I would like discuss the few top vulnerabilities to web application as per the recent
survey of Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP). Here the goal is to learn and discuss
some of the top vulnerabilities effect and how to prevent those attack.
Application development is done more and more on the web. We are using web browser for
accessing the application, here it uses Hyper Text Transfer Protocol(HTTP) to communicate with
the network. As application layer is the top layer in OSI it is easily accessible from outside world
and which may sometimes result in data theft or loss.

Compare Macbeth to a Film Adaptation
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth the audience witness s one man s overriding ambitions to his
iconic fall. Shakespeare makes a point of showing the deterioration of the Macbeth that entered
the stage in Act 1 and the Macbeth that dies in act 7, showing that even the deep morality and
honesty of a man like a man can worsen into a man who is willing to kill his own King a deadly
sin in Shakespeare s 17th century. Throughout my piece I shall make unifying links between the
adaptation directed by Mark Brozel and the original text wrote by none other than Shakespeare.
For the period of Act 1, Scene 2, Macbeth is hailed as the very heroic and brave Worthy gentleman!

Marburg Hemorrhagic Fever
Marburg hemorrhagic fever (Marburg HF) is a rare, critical pyrexia which affects both non
human and human primates. Marburg HF results from the Marburg virus, a distinct animal borne
RNA virus apart of the filovirus virus. The only other known member of the filovirus family is
Ebola. The virus was first identified in 1976 when there was an outbreak of the hemorrhagic fever
in the labs of Marburg, Frankfurt, Germany, and Belgrade, Serbia (WHO). Throughout the lab,
thirty one became infected, beginning with the laboratory workers, then followed by other medical
personnel and family members who tried to take care of them. Out of the thirty one people who
were ill, seven deaths were reported (CDC).
The first people who were infected had been exposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chills and fever result from the body attempting to fight off the virus by raising the body
temperature and killing the virus (Stöppler). The virus also attacks the organism, in which body
aches, headaches, and weakness are all signs of the immune system fighting the virus. Overtime the
symptoms worsen with vomiting, chest pains, coughing, sore throat, and stomach pain for the
same reasons as the weakened immune system. Due to organ failure and hemorrhaging that occur
five days after the fever, there is often bleeding from eyes, ears and nose (Huizen). Symptoms can
also become increasingly severe and may include pancreas inflammation, severe weight loss,
shock, delirium, liver failure, and multi organ dysfunction. People infected appear as though they
are ghost like as they have set, motionless faces and deep set eyes (WHO). Marburg virus has been
found in African monkeys, chimps and other nonhuman primates. The virus is transmitted to
humans through an infected animal s bodily fluids, by blood and waste products. By blood,
people can catch the virus by handling infected animals, and also by those who have operated on an
infected animal and got the disease from them. Through waste products, people can be
contaminated by visiting places that have been infected with organisms that carry the Marburg
virus. In addition, just like what had happened in the first fever outbreak with the few

Examples Of Disillusionment In The Hollow Men
Inspired by a combination of nationalistic fervor and glorified expectations of a short war,
thousands of soldiers from multiple countries enlisted to fight in the devastating conflict known as
World War I. These men were quickly met with disillusionment when they discovered the truly
nightmarish conditions of this war characterized by attrition. Much of the war took place in
trenches where soldiers fought in filth and watched helplessly as comrades were massacred by
bombshells, machine guns, and mustard gas. As it drew to a close, the survivors were left in the
rubble to contend with the unearthly conditions they had experienced and the unspeakable acts they
had committed during the war. Struggling to process the unfathomable destruction and... Show more

Apparently, Eliot s metaphorical language portrays the dread of the veterans anticipating the
omniscient judgmental eyes of either god or those of the people they killed in the afterlife since
they feel unable to atone for their sins. As a result of this fear of damnation, the veteran prays, in
an ironically similar fashion to the Lord s prayer, to be no nearer to death s dream kingdom and
to wear the disguise of a Rat s coat, crow skin, [and] crossed staves (31 35). Here, Eliot implies
that the veteran s faith is dwindling, as the veteran knows that if there is a God, he will likely be
punished for his actions; therefore, he feels he must abandon his beliefs to escape imminent hell.
As for the disguise, the veteran wishes to mask any semblance of being a soldier and rather
appear as an innocent civilian wielding crossed staves, or rather an outward display of Christianity
as represented the symbol of the crucifix, despite the veteran s own recession from faith

Temperature In The Middle Ages Essay
The topic is about whether temperatures were actually warmer in the Middle Ages than they are
today. If so, why? If no, why not? I believe it is important because to know our past is to predict
our future. The knowledge of what the temperatures were like fifteen hundred years ago, with little
human interference, is the perfect way to create a scenario of today s climateand the how s and why
s. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current
predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval
Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to
the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and
France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. North America was in the grip

the foremost factor in the telling of climate conditions. Those seas would not be traversal in this

The Ideas Of Machiavelli And Socrates
Essay #1
The ideas of Machiavelli and Socrates have influenced the leadership styles and approaches of
leaders around the world. From Stalin to the founding fathers of the United States, Machiavellian
influenced motives and ideals can be seen throughout modern history. Socrates is often referred
to as the founder of Western philosophy, and his teachings have been passed on to leaders over
the centuries. This paper will state both the Machiavelli s concept of a Prince , and present
Socrates perspective on the ideal prince. It will then evaluate Machiavelli s concept of prince
from Socrates perspective, and decide as to whether Socrates would be supportive of a political
system led by a Machiavellian Prince.
The Machiavellian approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This prince would not concern himself with the will of the majority, as decisions that he makes
need to be logical and defensible. This prince would place an emphasis on virtue, over the pursuit
for material wealth. The prince could never intentionally do wrong or evil, and would disapprove
of the idea of returning an evil for an evil.
The difference between the two figures is striking. Machiavelli writes about a prince that breaks
his word, when necessary for his own gain. On the other hand, Socrates argues that is never right to
be untruthful. Machiavelli and Socrates both argue for self development, yet the forms of
development that they advocate are very different. Although there are similarities, such as the fact
that each ideal prince should surround himself with smart, questioning advisors, the differences in
the core of each argument are too deeply divided. Socrates would not approve of an ideal
Machiavellian prince, and would not be supportive of the political system that this prince would
lead.
The biggest difference between the two ideal princes is their respective views on ethics and justice.
For Machiavelli ethics should be pushed aside when it is in the best interest of the prince to do so.
This is something that Socrates could never endorse, as it is his belief that people should spend
their lives in the pursuit of virtue, and should lead ethical

Analysis Of Estrella In Under The Feet Of Jesus
The development of characters transpire as a result of significant events in their lives. Events
such as learning a new skill have the ability to transform a character s life. Estrella in Helena
Maria Viramontes novel Under the Feet of Jesus flourishes into an individual who once got upset
over skills she did not have and was upset at the process of learning, but now understands how vital
educationis. Estrella was infuriated by her lack of understanding about the Perfecto s tools and the
letters on the chalkboard. She was especially agitated when the educators would not give her the
answer right away The selection of detail shows the connection between two things she overcame.
The tone and figurative language shows more detail about Estrella s transformation.
The connection between Estrella s animosity towards two skills she did not comprehend shows
how she evolves as a character. When first introduced to the tool, she was enraged by them because
of her lack of knowledge about them. She had opened the tool chest and all that jumbled steel
inside the box, the iron bars and things with handles, the funny shaped objects, seemed as
confusing and foreign as the alphabet she could not decipher (4 8). This shows that Estrella
could not understand both the tools as well as the alphabet. Luckily, the tools were similar in
Estrella s mind. The script A s had the curlicue of a pry bar, a hammerhead split like a V. The
small i s resembled nails (17 19). This connection of the

The Uk Constitution And The United States
Often the UK constitution is asserted to be the most unique in the world, as its sources are a piece
of historical significance as they come from great British heritage. From the case of Jackson and
others v Her Majesty s Attorney General, Lord Steyn stated that We do not in the UK have an
uncontrolled constitution. In general terms a person may judge the UK constitution to be
uncontrolled due to it being unwritten, as it is derived from a wide range of sources. Which vary
from common law to international treaties. However on the other side of the spectre, a written
constitution is one like the USA s, embodied into a single document. Putting aside the fact that the
UK constitution is from a variety of different sources, it must be verified that it has worked
successfully to this date from 1689 when the supremacy of parliament over the crown was
introduced, following the glorious revolution. It can also be said that, why would the UK
constitution be classed as uncontrolled, if it has worked for hundreds of years and it is still going
strong.
A constitution is generally there for one purpose, it sets out the framework and principal functions
of the organs of government and by setting out these functions the UK has been growing and
adapting. We in other words have an evolutionary constitution. If it ever came to a time where a
written constitution was enacted, it would indeed disrupt the infrastructure of the UK as they are
inflexible. Clear inflexibility is shown by

True Grit
Title
I believe that True Grit properly titles this book. Throughout the story almost all of the characters
displayed some of kind of bravery or courage, a.k.a grit(courage and resolve; strength of character).
Mattie Ross especially had grit. She was only fourteen when she took on a daring task most people
wouldn t, to find fugitives in the Choctaw Territory and avenge her father s death. Mattie was the
biggest example of True Grit , in my opinion. Another was Rooster Cogburn. He went rode
bravely, into a shootout, with four brutal criminals all by himself. Almost all of the characters
showed some kind of grit in their own way, but Mattie and Rooster were my favorites.
4. Theme
The themes of True Grit that stood out the most to me were friendship, vengeance, and justice.
The whole story is about Mattie going to avenge her father s death and find Tom Chaney, who
murdered her father. In the end Mattie gets takes a shot at Tom, which doesn t kill him. After she
did Mattie fell into a pit right behind her. Later on Rooster kills Tom then came into the cave and

If ever two were one, then surely we.
If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,

I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold.
Or all the riches that the east doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,

Here we face a paradox, physically that is impossible, but spiritually they complete each other s life
so that in marriage, they are one. We also see throughout these lines that she gives her marriage as
an example If ever two were one , if ever man were loved by wife , if ever wife was happy in a

Compare with me ye women if you can.
In this verse the poet seems boastful of her relationship; she calls out to women in a bragging
manner. She sees her love as rare, personal. Something that very few other couples share.
To Anne Bradstreet, her husband is exactly what he should be; the love of her life. Over and over
she expresses her devotion to him with a repetition pf images; an example of such images is
evident in the following:
I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold.
Or all the riches that the east doth hold.
My love is such that rivers cannot quench,
In here she states that the love to her husband is much more precious than gold and all the riches
of the east. She would also accept nothing in return for the love that she and her husband share and
that no power would be able to destroy it, her love to her husband is indestructible and eternal.
Nor ought but love from thee recompense
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.

Pros And Cons Of Birth Control Pills
Condoms or Pills; Which is Most Effective?
It s no secret that when it comes to birth control, some methods are more effective than others. The
reliability of a method of birth control depends on the product itself and on the consistency and
appropriate use of it. Two of the most common forms of birth control are condoms and birth control
pills. But, which one is most effective?
The only 100% full proof way of preventing pregnancy is to practice abstinence. However, couples
who commit to abstinence often fall to temptation and are unprepared when that happens. For this
reason, it s important to have clear conversations and be prepared for sexual intercourse, even if the
plan is to not partake in it.
The best way to be prepared is to know what safe and reliable form of protection to use and to have
it on hand. So, which form is better? The pill or condoms?
The Pill Vs. Condoms Pros and Cons
Both men and women must consider this question before actively engaging in a sexual
relationship. Should a man wear a condom or should a woman be on the pill? There is no easy
answer, but listing the pros and cons of each form of protection is a great way to start the
conversation.

Critical Elements Of Marketing Research
One of the critical elements of the marketing research is the test market. For the Ajax pot pie there
would be a combination of both quantitative and qualitative research done. This decision is based
on the fact the methods are most beneficial when used together. According to Essentials of
Marketing Research, qualitative research is research that addresses marketing objectives through
techniques that allow the researcher to provide elaborate interpretations of market phenomena
without depending on numerical measurement. The focus is on discovering true inner meaning and
new insights. Quantitative researchis marketing research that addresses research objectives through
empirical assessments that involve numerical measurement and analysis. Because qualitative
research is less structured, I would use this research method first. We learned earlier that it was the
president of the company who came up with the idea of the pot pie. He wanted to increase the
width of the product line to include chicken pies in the grocery stores hot deli section (where the
store s rotisserie chickens, ribs, soup, etc. are sold).Because of this, there is an increasing concern
that the research needs to be transparent. An outside agency is an independent research firm that is
contracted by the company that will offer a fresh perspective and not be constrained by groupthink.
Qualitative research already has an element of subjectivity so it is important to have the research

One of the serious public health issues in the United State is obesity in children. Obesity a
condition with an excess accumulation and storage of fat content in the body is also defined as a
BMI at or above the 95th percentile for children of the same age and sex. (CDC, 2014). The
rationale to choose this specific population is that obesity increases the risk for any serious physical

According to the CDC, approximately 17 percentages of United States children and adolescents in
between the ages two to19 years are obese. Also, in the past 30 years the childhood obesity
among children has doubled and, increased three times more in the adolescents. A child who is
obese during his or her childhood is more likely to suffer obesity in adulthood. Childhood obesity
has both long term and short term health risks. It is also related with several illnesses and
diseases and is directly correlated to enhance mortality and decrease life expectancy. There are
several factors that increase a child s risk of becoming obese or over weight such as, diet, lack of
exercise, family history, psychological factors and socioeconomic factors. One of the major causes
of childhood is lack of exercise or inactivity. In today s busy lifestyle physical activities in children
are significantly low and the majority of their time is spent watching televisions, playing video
games, and using computers. According to Washington State Department of health, there is also
some scientific evidence that exposure to environmental chemicals could be contributing to the
obesity epidemic (Washington State Department of Health, 2012). Exposure to environmental
chemicals such as tobacco smoke, nicotine, organophosphate insecticides, DDT, and Biphenol can

A Historical Perspective On Anxiety Management Training Essay
In the article by Richard M. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled Clinical Practice, University
Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training from The
American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management
Training, AMT.
He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various
universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced the relationship
between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and
identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of researchhe along with
one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to
color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p.
287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they
hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this
hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then
talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students,
investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found
that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just
as successful as a longer approach when reducing

Galesburg was initially designated as the site of the national railroad hall of fame in 2006.
However, the Engineers of Freedom Center, which is the educational museum of the hall of
fame, is still not built. Over the years, the railroad hall of fame committee has expanded their
staff and fundraising projects in hopes to finally get it built. Phase one of construction will cost
about twenty million dollars to complete. Mayor Pritchard estimates that they are between fifty
to seventy five percent of the way to that number and believes they will begin construction in
about two years. The fundraising process has been slow. We have gone through economic
downturns, we have gone through different things that have delayed it, said Pritchard. The
national railroad hall of fame and visitor attraction area as a whole could make a huge impact on
the Galesburg economy. Pritchard says, The city alone will get 180,000 dollars a year off the
boutique hotel and restaurant project and tax fees. There will also be money going to the school
district, Carl Sandburg College, the county, and so forth. So for us, it is wise to invest to help

Layoff Precautions
According to Davis (n.d.), the very important first step for a business owner or human resource
manager to lay off people is deciding on whom should be laid off. There are several legal reasons
to terminate an employee. The first group to consider is individuals that have poor performances,
which include lack of punctuality, attendance, or failure to produce desired outcomes. Higher
salaried employees can also be replaced when it comes to layoffs. Other individuals should be
terminated are those who resist to company innovation, be insubordination, negativism, or ethical
lapses and do not conform to company values. Some precautions should be considered while
execute the process of layoff. The manager who conduct the layoff should not express his or her
emotional feelings or threaten the terminated employee. The manager should not promise to rehire
the employee at a later date, just to make that employee feel better. It might set the expectation for
the terminated employee. If the employee will not be rehired, the company might face a legal issue
for not keeping the promise. The company should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is the safety of the remaining staffs. There were so many shooting cases in workplaces have been
reported in the past years after layoffs. Layoff might mean the end of the world to the employees
end of regular income and probably the termination of medical benefits, and a retirement saving.
For the business owner, it could mean terminating trusted, well performing workers in a desperate
means to reduce the expenses. The end result can be devastating to both the owner and the
terminated employee. Layoff might not be the best solution for a company to cut down on costs.

Analysis Of Wonders Of The Invisible World By Cotton Mather
The short story, Wonders of the Invisible World by Cotton Mather, tells of how the devil is
working around Boston. He tells this story from his own perspective in which he believes the devil
is working in secret, and through the youth. One of the trials used as an example was Martha
Carrier who was found guilty based on the information collected by Cotton Mather. Nathaniel
Hawthorne, writer of the famous Scarlet Letter , writes a short story from the narrator s
perspective, and how he visits his friend called Oberon. Oberon believes that the devil is residing
within his writing and insists to the narrator that he must burn the manuscript to cast the devil out.
The evidence that leads Oberon to believe that the devil is in his writing draws from publishers
refusing to accept his work. In Wonders of the Invisible World, Mather suggests the devil resides in
people who collect in hellish meetings where they discuss how to destroy the kingdom on out
lord Jesus Christ. He uses Martha Carrier as an example of someone who is possessed by the
devil and seeks to corrupt others and do harm to those who follow God. He provides evidence by
bringing witnesses to Carrier s torment, including her children. How the devil is portrayed in
The Devil in the Manuscript is more figurative rather than literal. Oberon believes the devil
possessed his writing because no one wants to publish what he wrote. This is likely less literal
than what Cotton Mather means, and is likely attributed from his ego and belief that his writing
is too great to be his fault. The portrayal of the devil within the Wonders of the Invisible World is
literal, and is inspired through fear and incredibly strict devotion to one religion. Cotton Mather
believes the devil is literally possessing people and using those he possesses to corrupt others. He
uses Martha Carrier as an example of how the devil will do this by bringing in her children to the
trial. The children confessed on trial that not only that they were witches themselves, but that their
mother had made them so. This helped strengthen Mather s argument that the devil is working
through people to corrupt others. The children s confession also helped give support to Mather s
theory

The Core Objection Behind Lean Systems
The core objection behind lean systems is to maximize customer value while minimizing waste.
Basically, lean is defined by using fewer resources in order to make a perfect value for
customers. How lean systems work, they use a highly skilled workforce and flexible equipment in
order to make some advantages. Such as mass production which is the high volume and low unit
cost. And craft production which is the variety and flexibility, this will help eliminate waste for the
producer and consumer. Luckily, this approach has drawn attention to other services. For example,
lean systems aren t only suitable for manufactures but also health cares, offices and shipping and
delivery. The misconception that lean is a tactic or cost reduction program is not necessarily true,
but it is a process of thinking and acting for the entire company. In order to accomplish lean system
thinking changes must refrain from management optimize separate technologies, assets and vertical
departments. The skilled workers in lean production systems are become more involved in
upholding and improving the system than their mass production complements. For instance, the
skilled workers are taught to detect an operation in case something is defective. Their job is to
work with other employees within the operation to find and correct the cause of the defect and
make sure it does not happen again. In future proposes using the lean system will increase level of
quality over time and eliminate the need to

Analysis Of The Journey Song Dont Stop Believin
The Journey song Don t Stop Believin is one of the band s most famous songs, and arguably their
magnum opus. However, the song itself goes deeper than its literal meaning, and tackles the
theme of finding your identity, following your dreams, and doing what you re passionate about.
The name of the song, Don t Stop Believin , follows its overall message and conveys it to listeners
in a way that they will understand its themes regardless of whether they are listening closely and
trying to break it down, or just singing along.
The first two stanzas read:
Just a small town girl
Livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train

The first two lines of each stanza, Just a small town girl / Livin in a lonely world (1.1 2) and Just a

settings, who are supposedly united when they take the midnight train goin anywhere . The
midnight train referred to in each stanza might be symbolic for some common goal, or it might be
more literal, as two different people take a train in search of something new in their lives.

Cleopatra. In 43 B.C.E, Octavian used force to gain approval by the government to rule for life.
Octavian was given the title of Augustus, the Revered One. Octavian s goal was to repair Rome

The Latin cross has a long arm with a short one crossing it on one end. This cross is used in early
Christian architecture. When building medieval churches in the West, the Latin cross plan was
followed. Saint Peter s and Saint Paul s basilica demonstrate the use of the Latin cross. The
architecture of both of these churches were molded off of the Latin cross. The north and south
arms of the transept extend to form a Latin cross. Crossing the transept, one continued toward the
triumphal arch that framed the apse, the semicircular space beyond the transept. In the apse, at
an altar that stood on a raised platform, one received the sacrament of Holy Communion (Fiero
182). The Greek cross has four arms of equal length. This cross is used in Byzantine architecture.
The Hagia Sophia is an example of the Greek cross plan, even though the Latin cross plan was
incorporated into this structure. Hagia Sophia was constructed by the East Roman emperor
Justinian. Light is symbolic to Byzantine liturgy so the mosaics and marble surfaces were
illuminated. Once Constantinople fell, the Hagia Sophia was transformed into a mosque and the
mosaics were removed. Hagia Sophia marks the golden age of Byzantine art and architecture that
took place under the leadership of the emperor Justinian (Fiero 186). The Latin cross plan directs
the eye toward the alter, the Greek cross plan directs the eye upward towards the

Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis
Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking
lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those
with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being
indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with
deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in
Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate
the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles
changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of
symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send
each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which
continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78).
This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings,
transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with
Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to
physically see the person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew
Robert never needed to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he
needed was to be with her because true love exists when people love each other for who they are,
imperfections and all. Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to
pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what

Logical And Physical Network Design Diagrams
IT IS important to have logical and physical network design diagrams. These diagrams help us in
understanding of the entire network with its functionalities. Physical layout diagrams of the
network shows connections between network devices and their physical location on the
network. Workstations are represented by use of small computer icons, severs are shown with
full tower cases. Switches and other network devices can be shown by use small rectangular
boxes with their RJ 45 points. Sometimes switches are not displayed with their ports depending
with their angle of view on the page. It is advisable to give more details as possible without
overcrowding the diagrams. Logical aspects of the network are shown by the logical layout
diagrams. Logical network may include assigned IP addresses to various hosts and devices,
routing table might also be shown. When designing logical devices we are not interested with
any physical cable or actual interface so we omit such kind of details. Physical and logical
layouts are important because they help in security issues, management and for troubleshooting
reasons. In case a problem arises such as link been down we use the physical layout and we are
able to locate where problem is located. This helps a lot because it avoids waste of time. Logical
and physical view of the network helps administrators and engineer to identify possible security
issues. Hackers try to obtain access to highly sensitive data by first creating map of the network

Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed no significant difference between plasma
percentages for Ice vest and control pre test results. Related Samples Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test
showed no significant difference between plasma percentages for ice vest and control post test
results (p 0.344). Discussion The significances from figures 1 5 would suggest that the Ice vests
caused no significant physiological changes (p 0.05). However these results are inconclusive as
the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats
which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no
significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR
for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2
which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of
the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin
which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The
vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke
volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). Increased muscle blood
flow could improve performance potentially. Figure 1 results showed that the ice vest tests
beginning and end HR difference was 69.33 bpm

Decision Support Systems ( Dss )
Decision support systems (DSS) is an umbrella term that describes an interactive, computerised
system that supports decision making in an organisation using data and models (Druzdzel Flynn

generally a rule based system used to provide expertise. (Sharda et al. 2014). It is essentially an
expert system but it may also use documented knowledge as a source of expertise (Sharda et al.

2.0. Question 2 Web analytics is used to analyse the behaviour of visitors of a website (Rouse,
Allen McQuown 2005). Web analytics can tell a business their website s traffic levels, its
referral sources and user behaviour and interactions (Sharma 2015). Data analytics is the
process of examining big data to find possible hidden patterns, unknown correlations and other
useful information that can be used to make better decisions (Kapdoskar et al. 2015). Data
analytics is making businesses smarter and more productive as they can make better predictions
by analysing trends in the data (Kapdoskar et al. 2015). The main difference between web and

data. Examples of where web analytics is useful for supporting businesses (Sharma 2015):
Improve website design and user experience Web analytics makes it easy to find out how users are
interacting with a business website. According to how the users are using the website, the business
can improve the design and the functionality to make a better user experience. Understand business

List all of the noun phrases in the passage, including the pronouns. After you have studied the list
write an essay on how the noun phrases contribute to the text. How do they relate to what is
being described in the extract? In Lindsey Davis s Ode to a Banker, there are many uses of the
noun phrase. The noun phrase is a phrase that contains a noun as well as other constituents (Yule
2010, p291). The noun can stand on its own as the noun phrase or include the use of articles and
modifiers to enhance its effect on the reader. The following essay will look at how, through the use
of noun phrases, Davis creates a sense of instability and allows her audience to experience it on a
personal level through her characterisation of the narrator.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once again we are invited to personally experience the narrator s feelings of uncertainty and
confusion. Davis is very discriminative in her use of modifiers for her noun phrases. Modifiers
in noun phrases help to enhance the noun phrase and allow for various interpretations (Short
1996, p44). This is done through the use of either pre modification that mainly consist of
adjectives and post modification that consist of either prepositional phrases, non finite clauses
or finite clauses (Crystal, pp136 138). She varies in her use of pre and post modifiers. Her post
modifiers are lengthier than her pre modifiers as they give the audience more information about
the head noun, from the phrase. One example of Davis s use of the lengthy post modifier is at
the beginning of the extract in the open doorway before the lamp failed . The narrator, here, is
referring to her outline that the intruders could see. The audience is called to remember a case of
where they have experienced seeing shadows in the dark, from glimmers of light. We are made
to envision a room that is dark, but only just has been enveloped in this darkness as we are told
that the intruders could see her before the lamp failed . This phrase, especially as it is at the
beginning of the extract, creates a feeling of unease and dread within the audience as well as
foreshadowing what is

Wilhelm Reich Essay
Wilhelm Reich was born in the Austro Hungarian Empire on March 24th, 1897. His parents were
farmers, and at a young age Reich developed a fascination with the life processes of plants and
animals. His formal education at this time was provided by a private tutor.
When Reich was 14, he discovered his mother was having an affair with his tutor. After Reich
reported this to his father, his mother committed suicide. Atwood and Stolorow (1977) have
speculated that this tragedy may have contributed to Reich s most significant theories.
After the death of his father three years later, Reich took over the family farm until it was destroyed
by the Russians in 1915. At that time he joined the Austrian Army. Upon returning from the war,

Because sexuality is often shrouded in ignorance and shame, many people are not able to attain this
release and, according to Reich, are thereby doomed to ill health and neurotic disturbances.
In order to combat societal pressure and educate the youth, Reich began organizing mental hygiene
clinics and sex counseling. He also began joining liberal and socialistic groups at this time,
convinced that only an overthrow of authoritarian society could ultimately alleviate the neurotic
suffering of its constituents. To this end, in 1930 he left his wife and daughters and traveled to
Berlin to join the Communist Party. Three years later, Reich would be expelled from the Party
because of his views regarding sexuality.
With the rise of Hitler, Reich left Germany and traveled to Denmark, and then fled to Sweden to
escape the Nazis. Sweden expelled him, and Reich moved on to Norway, where he began his bion
experiments. It was during these experiments that he discovered what he would term orgone energy,
a form of life energy which the bions emitted. He built and began experimenting with a device
intended to attract and concentrate orgone energy, the orgone accumulator, or ORAC.
In 1939, Reich accepted an invitation to lecture at the New School for Social Research in New
York City, and he moved to the United States. He married again, and in 1944 his son Peter was
born. He continued to experiment with the ORAC, and in 1948 he is said to

Ethical Discrimination On Tattoos
Tattoos have been dated back to 5000 BCE. Tattoos have played the role of being badges of
honor, ceremonial markings, signs off social rank, forms of punishment, and of course ways for
people to beautify themselves (The Cultural History of Tattoos). Over the past years, tattoos has
increased and continues to increase significantly in popularity. According to statistics, 36% of
American adults in the U.S. between the ages of 18 25 and 40% of American adults in the U.S.
between the ages of 26 40 have at least one tattoo(Seth). While the trend of getting tattoos are
increasing, the concerns of the employers starts to increase. People who have tattoos should not be

Although Elzweig s research may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today s concerns
about the discrimination of tattoos in the workplace. While it is true that there are laws that protect
others from discrimination against gender, race, sexuality, etc., it does not necessarily follow that
one has protection from the discrimination against tattoos. Society has come to a realization that a
difference in someone s skin should not change how others view or treat them, so why do people
treat those who have tattoos differently than those who do not? Although it is granted that if one is
being treated differently at his or her job it is considered employment litigation, one can take action
and bring the situation to court. Nevertheless, when it comes down to dress code, the employer has
every right to release those who don t respect the rules. As stated in Elzweig s quote, if a person
who has a religion that requires them to have body modifications, they are protected by the law and
they have the right to take the employer to court for employment discrimination if employee states
otherwise. In addition, Elzweig suggests that the employment practice violated a constitutional
right. Title VU made it unlawful employment practice for an employer... to discriminate against any
individual... because of such individual s race,

Aging Affects The Appetite And Food Intake
Abstract Aging affects the appetite and food intake of a person resulting in a gradual decreasing in
the body weight. Moreover, slower stomach emptying makes the elderly to experience increased
fullness or satiation all the time. The alteration of gut peptides, such as cholecystokinin, insulin,
GLP 1 and Peptide YY during aging modifies satiation and satiety. Moreover, the study collected
data from seven scholarly reviewed medical journals following well defined criteria: must use
scholarly reviewed journals written English and the journals had to align with the topic under
discussion. It demonstrated the differences in satiety and satiation related to age and their unique
responses to gut hormones. Moreover, out of the seven articles, four were controlled trials while
three of them included cohort studies. The keywords used during the study were aging, food intake,
regulate, satiety and satiation. Other studies used in the search demonstrated major strengths, such
as exhibiting the differences in satiety and satiation related to age and their unique responses to the
gut hormones. They also showed the likelihood for the manipulation of nutritional factors like the
meal size, taste, and variety for inhibiting weight gain or weight loss through compensatory
alterations in energy ingestion. The major limitation of the study included their inability to reflect

Why Georgia s Anti Mask Laws
When Georgia s anti mask laws were scrawled into state code some 60 years ago, supportive
legislators sought to curb anonymous violence by hooded Ku Klux Klansmen. But first year
Georgia State student Nabila Khan never guessed such a law would bring into question her
niqab, a veil worn by some Muslim women which covers everything but the eyes. On Aug. 25,
during Khan s first week of college, one of her teachers held her after class to request she not
conceal her face. Khan refused, claiming such an ask violated her right to freely exercise her
religious beliefs. I wear it to work. I wear it to school, she told The Signal about her niqab. Many
people have this misconception that, as Muslim women, we re oppressed or forced to wear it.
For me, it s a choice. My parents never forced me to wear it. Khan said she feels proud and
protected when wearing her niqab. This is the only way I can practice my religion the way I
believe it s meant to be practiced, she said. However, Georgia s anti mask law states any device
which conceals the identity of the wearer is only allowed when used for physical protection or on
certain holidays. Georgia, unlike some states such as Louisiana and Minnesota, has yet to amend
that code to allow for religion related exemptions. The teacher, who will remain unnamed in this
article at Khan s request, noted on the class syllabus that students should not obscure the face in
class. The teacher also gave Khan a copy of the state law when she

  • 2. Discuss How Sherriff Presents Human Weakness and Frailty... Discuss how Sherriff presents human weakness and frailty in Journeys End Journeys End was written with the intention of letting the war speak . The lives of the officers on the front line during 1917 are examined. A key theme that is explored throughout the play is the reactions of the mind and body, under the stress of the war. Each character represents the weakness of the human being in an individual way, but the character on which frailty is mainly focussed is Stanhope. Stanhope is the topic of many conversations within the dugout and the first conversation we see, Stanhope is mentioned. The conversation is between Osborne, the second in command, and the commanding officer of the company being relieved. The commander inquires as to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherriff shows this to the audience by having Raleigh describe the war like a game at school, using words such as cricket and rugger , which show the youth, innocence and naivety of Raleigh. When the reality becomes clear, Raleigh s attitude towards the war changes dramatically. The death of Raleigh at the end of the play sums up his characteristics in the best possible way, his innocence is shown until his final moments when he compares the wound in his back to be just the same as getting kicked in a game of rugger . His death signifies much more than the passing of one soldier, added with Raleigh passing, the candle flame extinguishing, shows the death of society in 1917 and of innocence, showing how nothing could return to the way it was in the years previous to the war. After the raid which occurs near the end of the play, Raleigh s view on the war has changed after he witnesses the first deaths of people he knew. He questions as to how Stanhope can stay drinking champagne whilst Osborne s body is lying out there . Again this shows the audience just how naГЇve Raleigh is, as he has never experienced the loss of someone close to him and the effect that the war has on people. Despite Raleigh s innocence and weakness, he is determined to fight until the end, showing that his character (although naГЇve) has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Augusten Burroughs s Running With Scissors A Life of Running All writers have a story to tell about themselves. This story consists of their past, and the sort of events that occured to get them to where they are today. In his memoir Running With Scissors, Augusten Burroughs tells the story of his rough upbringing and unusual teenage years, and how it leads to his writingcareer. Burroughs lives his childhood amidst his constantly arguing, dysfunctional parents. To distract himself from this, he develops an obsession with organization and shininess. He dreams to become a doctor, or a television actor playing a doctor, and to live in a world filled with crisp, white jackets. He even intentionally injures himself in order to go to the doctor s office and experience this world.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christmas trees will stay up year round, holes will be sawed in the ceiling for natural light, and months will be spent living completely in the front yard. Over time, Burroughs becomes accustomed to this sporadic way of life, even though part of him wishes that he could just be normal. In addition, Burroughs becomes involved in an intense homosexual relationship with the Finches older adopted son, Neil Bookman. The Finch family does not mind, and this continues for years. Bookman develops an obsession over Burroughs, who enjoys maintaining power over the older man. However, Bookman eventually runs away one night, and is never heard from again. Natalie, one of the Finch daughters who is close to Burrough s age, eventually becomes his best friend. They get involved in all sorts of antics together, and explore the world around them. When they turn eighteen, they leave the Finch house and attempt to start a new life of their own. Burrough s dreams of becoming a doctor change to ones of becoming a hairstylist and creating a beauty empire, and then back to a doctor as he enrolls as a pre med in community college. However, he soon withdraws after the realization that it is not for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Invention Of China s Inventions On a daily basis, people come across hundreds of inventions that are made around the world. Each one of these inventions have profoundly affected the way people live their lives. China is one of the leading providers to the United States. They have also made various inventions that people benefit from today. One of China s earliest inventions was paper. This invention was developed in 105AD and has become a product people still use today. The ingredients that were used to make paper was a variety of fibrous materials, birch leaves, and wood pulp. The process of making paper would take up to thirty days to construct. The production of paper was a rigorous process that China held secret for hundreds of years. Despite the fact that there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By this time paper mills had been invented in other countries which caused the paper to go from a complex recipe that was one held secret by the Chinese to a ubiquitous production with the use of machinery. People have come far in the innovation of paper. One component that has been altered are the ingredients that go into the paper. Although some ingredients remain the same, paper factories use more chemicals to manufacture paper rather than the traditional ingredients. With this technology and different ingredients, making paper has now become much easier and faster when compared to ancient times. It is now one of the most used item in our daily lives. Another Chinese invention that has had a profound affect in people s lives is gunpowder. It was first invented in 142 AD by Wei Boyang (quart) and has become a greatly used product around the world. Like many of China s inventions, it was kept a secret. It was not until 1100s AD that this secret was discovered. The first to hear about the discovery of the gunpowder was the Islamic empire. It was then discovered by the Roman empire and soon made its way to Europe. China first discovered gunpowder could be used as a weapon when they put gunpowder on one end of a bamboo tube and a metal item on the other end. This caused the gunpowder to explode and shoot the metal item from the other end. This was the start of the weapons we use today. • 6. Comparing To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and To his... Comparing To his Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell and To his Mistress Going to Bed by John Donne In recent times I have compared and contrasted two pieces of love poetry, both of which are exceptionally lyrical and full of intellectual language that bring the poems alive with elaborated metaphors that compare dissimilar things, as they Inare equally, yet somehow individually both metaphysical poems. The first of these poems that I comprehended was To his Coy Mistress; (written by Andrew Marvell during the 17th century), it reflects the epic of a man who is striving to entice a unadulterated woman into going to bed with him; he does this by using a lot of romantic flattery and surreal imagery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the most famous of Marvell s lyrics is To His Coy Mistress : Like many of Marvell s best poems, it masks extraordinary subtlety and complexity beneath a surface of smooth and deceptively simple octosyllabic couplets. It is, in fact, as perfect an example of the metaphysical mode as anything by Donne and, for all its cool and witty tone, and passionate lyrics. John Donne, (1572 1631) is considered the greatest of all metaphysical poets. Donne was educated at Oxford, Cambridge and Lincoln s Inn. His works of this period, included some of his songs, sonnets (written as late as 1617), problems and paradoxes, which consisted of cynical, realistic and often sexual lyrics, essays and verse satires. Donne s court career was ruined by the discovery of his marriage in 1601 to Anne More and we also imprisoned for a short time; later in 1601, his poems became a lot more serious. After a long period of financial uncertainty and desperation, during which he was twice a member of Parliament, Donne yielded to the wishes of King James I and took orders in 1625. Two years later his wife died. He was made reader in divinity at Lincoln s inn, a royal chaplain, and in 1621 Dean of St. Paul , a position he held until his death. Investigating Reaction Rates of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid Aim: To investigate the rate of reaction of Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric acid. In this investigation I will use the following word equation: Sodium Thiosulphate + Hydrochloric acid In this investigation I will use the following symbol equation: Na2S2O3 + Hcl Prediction: I predict that as the Sodium Thiosulphate concentration increases the rate of reaction will also increase. The reason I predict this is because there will be a higher concentration of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The collision theory explains all there is to the rate of reaction. The collision theory states that the rate of reaction depends on how often and how hard the reacting particles collide. Reacting particles need to collide with each other to be able to react. The more collisions there are then the faster the rate of reaction will be. The following methods of increasing the rate of reaction can be explained by increasing the number of collisions between the reacting particles: * Temperature When the temperature is increased in a reaction the particles begin to move around much quicker. This means that when they collide with each other they will collide harder. * Catalyst A catalyst works by giving the reacting particles a surface to stick to on which they can collide with each other on. This also increases the number of collisions between the particles. * Size If one of the reactants is a solid it will have a smaller surface area than a solid that is broken up into smaller pieces. This allows the particles in the solution to have a bigger area to collide in. * Concentration A more concentrated solution means there are more reactant particles moving about amongst the water particles. This makes collisions between the reactant particles more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Is Spanking Wrong To spank or not to spank has been a question for parents for many years. Some believe that spanking is the only way that children will learn to be obedient. They believe in the motto spare the rod, spoil the child , meaning if parents do not physically discipline, the child is spoiled and lacks manners. Others, however, believe that exerting physical harm on a child for discipline does not make sense. They believe that there is always a better way to teach children right from wrong. Spankingis not an effective form of discipline and can lead to improper behavior. When a child is acting up, a parent can either teach the child what they did wrong and make it a learning experience, or react harshly to the behavior of the child and as a result, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has to be an alternative option so the child will learn, not fear. Editors remarked that in, Spanking Your Children: Good or Bad , the CED studied how spanking may be effective short term, but there may be consequences later in life. The more children are spanked, the less they are likely to be mannerly, and well behaved in the future. They continued on by stating, Spanking does not teach children why their behavior was wrong or what they should do instead; it teaches children that the only reason to behave appropriately is to avoid being punished. (2017). This research has proven that there is not only a physical negative reaction, but a mental one too. CNN mentions that for decades experts have stated that spanking is not effective because it teaches a child to be scared of his parents and to not respect them (O Callaghan, 2011). In fact it is dangerous because hitting can injure a child and teach him or her it is okay to hit someone if they disappoint them. Imagine a grown adult spanking another adult. This would be considered an assault, and is not acceptable in our society. Therefore, it is not okay for an adult to hit a child in our day and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay on Effects of the Great Depression The Effects of the Great Depression The Great Depression was a horrible event that took place almost 100 years ago. It was a time in our society when people had no money and no food. Everyone was losing their jobs because the companies couldn t afford to pay them and stay in business at the same time. Shakespeare makes a point of showing the deterioration of the Macbeth that entered the stage in Act 1 and the Macbeth that dies in act 7, showing that even the deep morality and honesty of a man like a man can worsen into a man who is willing to kill his own King a deadly sin in Shakespeare s 17th century. However, going down this rabbit hole one may uncover uncomfortable facts about our current predicament. Answers found in both the past and the present could be disturbing. The Medieval Warm Period took place between the 10th and 15th centuries. During this era, ice free seas far to the north allowed the Vikings to settle Greenland and sail from Norway, Sweden, Briton and France on a regular basis with no trouble from the cold or sea ice. This prince would place an emphasis on virtue, over the pursuit for material wealth. The prince could never intentionally do wrong or evil, and would disapprove of the idea of returning an evil for an evil. The difference between the two figures is striking. Machiavelli writes about a prince that breaks his word, when necessary for his own gain. On the other hand, Socrates argues that is never right to be untruthful. Machiavelli and Socrates both argue for self development, yet the forms of development that they advocate are very different. Although there are similarities, such as the fact that each ideal prince should surround himself with smart, questioning advisors, the differences in the core of each argument are too deeply divided. Socrates would not approve of an ideal Machiavellian prince, and would not be supportive of the political system that this prince would lead. The biggest difference between the two ideal princes is their respective views on ethics and justice. The Uk Constitution And The United States Often the UK constitution is asserted to be the most unique in the world, as its sources are a piece of historical significance as they come from great British heritage. From the case of Jackson and others v Her Majesty s Attorney General, Lord Steyn stated that We do not in the UK have an uncontrolled constitution. In general terms a person may judge the UK constitution to be uncontrolled due to it being unwritten, as it is derived from a wide range of sources. Which vary from common law to international treaties. However on the other side of the spectre, a written constitution is one like the USA s, embodied into a single document. Putting aside the fact that the UK constitution is from a variety of different sources, it must be verified that it has worked successfully to this date from 1689 when the supremacy of parliament over the crown was introduced, following the glorious revolution. It can also be said that, why would the UK constitution be classed as uncontrolled, if it has worked for hundreds of years and it is still going strong. A constitution is generally there for one purpose, it sets out the framework and principal functions of the organs of government and by setting out these functions the UK has been growing and adapting. For the Ajax pot pie there would be a combination of both quantitative and qualitative research done. This decision is based on the fact the methods are most beneficial when used together. Suinn, of Colorado State University, titled Clinical Practice, University Research, and Students: A Historical Perspective on Anxiety Management Training from The American Psychologist, Suinn discusses the history and application of Anxiety Management Training, AMT. He first explains his development of AMT through is many years of educating at various universities. Suinn first talks how he first examined how anxiety influenced the relationship between self acceptance and acceptance of others and the association between anxiety and identification at Whitman College. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) After many years of researchhe along with one of his student, Hunter Hill, they found that anxiety disrupts the trend for self perceptions to color evaluations of others and is significantly associated with low self esteem. (Suinn, 1995, p. 287) While at Whitman he also conducted research with another student, Tom Smith, where they hypothesized that is a correlation between high identification and low anxiety. However, this hypothesis was proven to be wrong and they found no relationship between the two. Suinn, then talks about his time at the University of Hawaii. Here, along with some of his students, investigated if group desensitization or individual desensitization was more effective. It was found that they were both equally affected, even more so they discovered that a briefer approach was just as successful as a longer approach when reducing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several legal reasons to terminate an employee. The first group to consider is individuals that have poor performances, which include lack of punctuality, attendance, or failure to produce desired outcomes. • 35. Analysis Of Wonders Of The Invisible World By Cotton Mather The short story, Wonders of the Invisible World by Cotton Mather, tells of how the devil is working around Boston. He tells this story from his own perspective in which he believes the devil is working in secret, and through the youth. One of the trials used as an example was Martha Carrier who was found guilty based on the information collected by Cotton Mather. Nathaniel Hawthorne, writer of the famous Scarlet Letter , writes a short story from the narrator s perspective, and how he visits his friend called Oberon. Oberon believes that the devil is residing within his writing and insists to the narrator that he must burn the manuscript to cast the devil out. The evidence that leads Oberon to believe that the devil is in his writing draws from publishers refusing to accept his work. In Wonders of the Invisible World, Mather suggests the devil resides in people who collect in hellish meetings where they discuss how to destroy the kingdom on out lord Jesus Christ. He uses Martha Carrier as an example of someone who is possessed by the devil and seeks to corrupt others and do harm to those who follow God. He provides evidence by bringing witnesses to Carrier s torment, including her children. How the devil is portrayed in The Devil in the Manuscript is more figurative rather than literal. Oberon believes the devil possessed his writing because no one wants to publish what he wrote. This is likely less literal than what Cotton Mather means, and is likely attributed from his ego and belief that his writing is too great to be his fault. The portrayal of the devil within the Wonders of the Invisible World is literal, and is inspired through fear and incredibly strict devotion to one religion. Cotton Mather believes the devil is literally possessing people and using those he possesses to corrupt others. He uses Martha Carrier as an example of how the devil will do this by bringing in her children to the trial. The children confessed on trial that not only that they were witches themselves, but that their mother had made them so. This helped strengthen Mather s argument that the devil is working through people to corrupt others. The children s confession also helped give support to Mather s theory ... • 37. The Core Objection Behind Lean Systems The core objection behind lean systems is to maximize customer value while minimizing waste. Basically, lean is defined by using fewer resources in order to make a perfect value for customers. How lean systems work, they use a highly skilled workforce and flexible equipment in order to make some advantages. Such as mass production which is the high volume and low unit cost. And craft production which is the variety and flexibility, this will help eliminate waste for the producer and consumer. Luckily, this approach has drawn attention to other services. For example, lean systems aren t only suitable for manufactures but also health cares, offices and shipping and delivery. The misconception that lean is a tactic or cost reduction program is not necessarily true, but it is a process of thinking and acting for the entire company. In order to accomplish lean system thinking changes must refrain from management optimize separate technologies, assets and vertical departments. The skilled workers in lean production systems are become more involved in upholding and improving the system than their mass production complements. For instance, the skilled workers are taught to detect an operation in case something is defective. Their job is to work with other employees within the operation to find and correct the cause of the defect and make sure it does not happen again. In future proposes using the lean system will increase level of quality over time and eliminate the need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When designing logical devices we are not interested with any physical cable or actual interface so we omit such kind of details. Physical and logical layouts are important because they help in security issues, management and for troubleshooting reasons. In case a problem arises such as link been down we use the physical layout and we are able to locate where problem is located. This helps a lot because it avoids waste of time. However these results are inconclusive as the results are not representative of the male population with only 6 participants and no repeats which makes it statistically unreliable and non representative. Although Figure 1 shows no significant difference between control and ice vest it is apparent that there is a lower mean HR for the ice vest testing in the first 8 minutes of the experiment. This can be explained by Figure 2 which shows the reduction in Ts for ice vest compared to the control during the first 5 minutes of the experiment. This reduction in Ts causes a reduction in the need for blood flow to the skin which directly causes an increase in available blood for central circulation (Marino, 2002). The vasoconstriction as a result of the cold stimuli of the jacket would naturally increase the stroke volume (SV) and consequently cause a reduction in HR (Marino, 2002). That is, if my ESTJ preference indicates high needs for control, then it also means that I would be more inclined to resist overbearing controls. To be a good leader, I must learn to be a submissive subordinate. A submissive subordinate would learn the good and the best leadership behavior and able to filter the bad undesirable aspect of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the past years, tattoos has increased and continues to increase significantly in popularity. According to statistics, 36% of American adults in the U.S. between the ages of 18 25 and 40% of American adults in the U.S. between the ages of 26 40 have at least one tattoo(Seth). While the trend of getting tattoos are increasing, the concerns of the employers starts to increase. Although Elzweig s research may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today s concerns about the discrimination of tattoos in the workplace. While it is true that there are laws that protect others from discrimination against gender, race, sexuality, etc., it does not necessarily follow that one has protection from the discrimination against tattoos. Society has come to a realization that a difference in someone s skin should not change how others view or treat them, so why do people treat those who have tattoos differently than those who do not? Although it is granted that if one is being treated differently at his or her job it is considered employment litigation, one can take action and bring the situation to court. Nevertheless, when it comes down to dress code, the employer has every right to release those who don t respect the rules. As stated in Elzweig s quote, if a person who has a religion that requires them to have body modifications, they are protected by the law and they have the right to take the employer to court for employment discrimination if employee states otherwise. In addition, Elzweig suggests that the employment practice violated a constitutional right. • 52. Why Georgia s Anti Mask Laws When Georgia s anti mask laws were scrawled into state code some 60 years ago, supportive legislators sought to curb anonymous violence by hooded Ku Klux Klansmen. But first year Georgia State student Nabila Khan never guessed such a law would bring into question her niqab, a veil worn by some Muslim women which covers everything but the eyes. On Aug. 25, during Khan s first week of college, one of her teachers held her after class to request she not conceal her face. Khan refused, claiming such an ask violated her right to freely exercise her religious beliefs. I wear it to work. I wear it to school, she told The Signal about her niqab. Many people have this misconception that, as Muslim women, we re oppressed or forced to wear it. For me, it s a choice. My parents never forced me to wear it. Khan said she feels proud and protected when wearing her niqab. This is the only way I can practice my religion the way I believe it s meant to be practiced, she said. However, Georgia s anti mask law states any device which conceals the identity of the wearer is only allowed when used for physical protection or on certain holidays. Georgia, unlike some states such as Louisiana and Minnesota, has yet to amend that code to allow for religion related exemptions. The teacher, who will remain unnamed in this article at Khan s request, noted on the class syllabus that students should not obscure the face in class. The teacher also gave Khan a copy of the state law when she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
