The Geisha
Geisha The geisha has been the subject of innumerable books and films focusing on the myth of
the profession and the culture in which she represented. Various portrayals of the geisha have
focused on different aspects of their lifestyle and the different versions also have varying
degrees of accuracy in their depictions. In three different films and one book, four different
groups try to explain exactly what it was like for people who lived as geishas or alongside these
women. Some versions of the story portray the geisha life as a very pleasant one where the role
of geisha was an honored title. Others, like Memoirs of a Geisha paint this existence in a more
unpleasant life, equating geisha with high class prostitution. Some tell the fantasy version of
geisha hood through a modern and decidedly western sensibility and use the profession as a form
of othering the Japanese people, while the others tell a far more realistic and eastern perspective
of the same topic. The films to be discussed are: Madame Butterfly, the Barbarian and the Geisha,
and Memoirs of a Geisha. The book is an autobiography of a real life geisha, written by Sayo
Matsuda. In one of the first films to portray a geisha, Madame Butterfly tells the story of a young
geisha who falls in love with an American who marries her and impregnates her, only to abandon
her to marry a proper, white wife. This marriage, unlike the one to the geisha Cho Cho San is the
one that counts for the American, named

Explain Why Did Tsar Nicholas II Face Problems From 1906...
Why did Tsar Nicholas II continue to face problems from 1906 to 1914?
After the 1905 Revolution, the Tsar got a little taste of what was to come if he did not change the
way the country functioned. However too little was done too late and after war was declared and
Stolypin s assassination it was almost certain that there would be no more tsarist regime.
Nicholas II promised in the October Manifesto that a duma may be set up, so he can get some
liberal support. This was the first time the Tsar has tried at a democratic government. However
what displeased the people is what the Tsar had done in April 1906. He passed on the Fundamental
Laws which basically allowed him to overrule any decision of the Duma and that he would keep
most of his autocratic power. It seemed that nothing has changed after the 1905 Revolution. The first

Many historians believe that if there was no World War I, Stolypin would be able to save Russiaby
resolving the peasant s discontent. As the peasants had no land of their own and the Mir was
creating major problems, the peasants were quite angry. Also they made up most of the
population, which showed that they must be taken seriously or they could do major damage to
the country. Stolypin gave the peasants the power to choose to leave the Mirs and join Kulaks
freely. Because of this there were some successes; record harvests in 1913 and production was
increasing however it depended on the region. The problem was that Stolypin was assassinated
and nobody was there to continue his reforms. However there were many peasants that were left
without anything and they were forced to go to towns and look for work. This new class of
peasants were dangerous as they were easy targets for radicalism. Also most of the land still was
owned by the high class and not a lot has changed. The peasants in Russia were not pleased as

Course: Talent Management HRM 532
Date: Sunday, February 26, 2012 Evaluate the effectiveness of the roles that the strategic leaders
played in the formation of the performance management strategy. Silzer and Dowell (2010) define
Talent Management as an integrated set of processes, programs, and cultural norms in an
organization designed and implemented to attract, develop, deploy, and retain talent to achieve
strategic objectives and meet future business needs (p. 18). And lists the following as components

Consequently, the demand for talent is outstripping the supply. The ability for a firm to create an
integrated system that yields a continual flow of talent ready to address specific strategic and
operational opportunities may be the single most enduring competitive advantage. While
organizations often find that their strategies, products, services, or markets require change, the need
to have relevant, differentiated talent to achieve these business goals remains constant (pp. 73 35).
Boudreau and Ramstad (2002) propose focusing on pivotal talent or the talent where improvements
in capabilities will make the most significant impact on competitive advantage. When talent
management is integrated into strategic business planning, there is an opportunity to discuss the
capabilities and skills needed to execute the plan. This helps leaders create proactive plans to
ensure that they have the talent they need to achieve the strategy (p. 7). According to Aguirre, D.,
Hewlett S. A., and Post L. (2010) the global recession has compelled CEOs to recognize the
competitive advantage in the knowledge economy is determined and driven by human capital.

The Differences Between Football And Nfl Football
There are over 200 million unique viewers that watch football every year. College and NFL
football is one of the major things that can seise Americans from thinking about all of the awful
things in the world and unite people together. Certain things come with each league that are
different and similar to each other. There are even some areas of both leagues that people most
likely did not even know about either of them. These two notorious footballleagues have many
similarities and differences in the way that they are constructed and played.
The different rules of each league have an impact on how the game flows and how it is played.
Each rule has many factors that can manipulate the outcome of the call on the football field during
a game. In this case either league has their own idea of what a catch has to consists of to be
considered one. For college football, the player who catches the ball only has to have one foot in
bounds and retain a firm grasp on the ball. On the other hand, NFL has a different set of rules for
what a catch has to consist of. In the NFL just like college the player has to maintain possession
of the ball. But, the main difference between the two rules according to Cyd Zeigler (2015), is that
the player touches the ground inbounds with both feet (para. 9). This can cause a higher level of
difficulty towards the players to perform a catch. There are other rules between the two leagues that
are differently constructed. Both leagues have different rule

Struggle for Equal Work Essay
Struggle for Equal Work
The development of the Lowell Mills in the 1820s provided American women with their first
opportunity to work outside the home with reasonable wages and relatively safe work. About ten
years later however, working in the mills wasn t the same. Working conditions became more
vigorous, the mills were unsafe and the pay received didn t match the amount of work done.
The Lowell family s textile mills were set up to attract the unmarried daughters of farm families,
hoping that they would work a few years before getting married. These young women were called
Lowell Mill Girls. A typical working day in the mills started with a factory bell ringing at about
four in the morning to wake up employees. After this, employees ... Show more content on

Conditions in the mills during the 1830s were terrible. Lighting was a problem in the mills causing
the workers to strain their eyes to see what they were doing. This was to make sure they were
working productively and to avoid injuries from tools or machinery. Comfort wasn t something
women were used to while working in the mills, especially in the boarding houses where they
stayed.
Unmarried women who worked in the Lowell mills lived in boarding houses within the area. A
widow was usually the supervisor in these places and was responsible for the moral and physical
well being of the girls. The women were required to pay about a dollar a week to live there and
the money was taken directly out of their paychecks. About 30 women lived in the boarding houses
with about six living in each room. The rooms, which had three beds, were poorly ventilated,
overcrowded, lacked privacy and infested with rats and roaches.
A 1930s mill worker said, In vain do I try to soar in fancy and imagination above the dull reality
around me but beyond the roof of the factory I cannot rise. Women today would not stand for
these conditions. We live in a world today where women hold just the same jobs as men. Work
such as in the textile industry wouldn t be a popular job to fill since there are so many
opportunities today. Women are still struggling for equal pay in some situations, but overall,

Ethical Implications of Assisted Reproductive Technology...
Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is a measure used to treat infertility where both sperm
and eggs are handled, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) the most common form has been used since
1981 in the United States. ART may enable individuals who were previously not able to conceive
and deliver a child the ability to do so. In 2009 the Suleman Octupletswere born using the IVF
technique to a single mother who also had six other children under the same methods. The Suleman
Octuplets and their mother, Nadya Suleman, became a focus of interest for many based on the
controversy and ethical dilemmas that surrounded their birth.

Suleman s choice to reproduce occurred with her first six children and she was incapable of
supporting or caring for them therefore she should not have been allowed to have more children.

her children and her choice to have more disregarded the Principle of Common Good and the
potential additional burden she would place on society. English (2006) concludes that the Human

Whaling Should Be Banned
Aside from radical protests against whaling, other NGOs such as Greenpeace have peacefully
protested the ongoing whaling, by avoiding fleet wars the SSCS partakes in. By 1973,
Greenpeace confronted whaling fleets in response to the decline of blue whales and other species.
In the midst of a peaceful battle to defend the whales, Greenpeacesnapped a photograph of a dead
sperm whale, burdening the public to the IWC in requests for justice. Responding to the incident
in 1979, the IWC established the Indian Ocean Whale Sanctuary as a conservation measure, and in
1982 the IWC declared a Global Moratorium. The desire of the IWC to conserve their image of anti
whalers driven them to act immediately from the accusations over Japan. The establishment of the
moratorium was a plan to cease commercial whalingin 1986 and in 2003 to allow for the... Show

Wireless Sensor Networks For Energy Conservation
IMPLEMENTATION OF ROBUST SAMPLING IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS FOR
ENERGY CONSERVATION
Importance and Relevance and Novelty of the Project:
1.About Wireless Sensor Networks
Now a days, deployment of wireless sensor networks for real time applications has increased a lot.
As and when, we talk about monitoring, transmitting (wireless), and controlling various physical
conditions at a site, which we basically call a smart system, can be easily achieved by the wireless
sensor networks.
A wireless sensor network (WSN) comprises of a large number of independently distributed sensor
nodes in which sensors employed at each and every node. These sensors are used to monitor
physical or environmental conditions, and can easily pass their data through the sensor network to
the main site. Each sensor node consists of a sensing system for information acquisition, real time
data processing, a power supply unit, and wireless communicating modules, which is a basic
system of a WSN. Each time the physical conditions vary according to the time and space, WSNs
starts real time data processing and sends the data.
Some of the statistics, which articulates about the importance of WSNs in the present day Society,

The Bubonic Plague Essay
The Bubonic Plague
Introduction
Plague, was a term that was applied in the Middle Ages to all fatal epidemic diseases, but now it is
only applied to an acute, infectious, contagious disease of rodents and humans, caused by a short,
thin, gram negative bacillus. In humans, plague occurs in three forms: bubonic plague, pneumonic
plague, and septicemic plague. The best known form is the bubonic plague and it is named after
buboes, or enlarged, inflamed lymph nodes, which are characteristics of the plague in the groin or
neck or armpit. Bubonic plague can only be transmitted by the bite of any of numerous insects that
are normally parasitic on rodents and that seek new hosts when the original host dies. If the plague
is left untreated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Symptoms and Causes
The first symptoms of the bubonic plague are headache, vomiting, nausea, aching joints and a
feeling of ill health. The lymph nodes of the groin or of the armpit or neck suddenly start to
become swollen and painful. The pulse and respiration rate of a bubonic plague victim is
increased, and the victim will become listless and exhausted. The buboes will swell until they are
approximately the size of a chicken egg. If a case is nonfatal than the temperature will begin to
fall in about five days, and approaches normal in about two weeks, but in fatal cases death will
probably occur within four days.
Yersinia Pestis, an infectious agent is the cause of the Bubonic Plague. Yersina Pestis is a
bacteria, which means the cells lack the internal organization of eukaryotic cells. These bacteria
cells would contain the membrane but they would not be able to subdivide the inside of the cell.
These bacteria cells do not have a nucleus so instead they have a nucleiod that contains genetic
material. The two types of bacteria cells are gram negative and gram positive. Yersina Pestis is
gram negative and that means that antibiotics are less effective on the plague because of a
lipopolysaccharide layer over their walls that adds extra protection.

The bubonic plague has a major impact on the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is made up
of lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, lymphoid

Examples Of Historical Accuracy Of Saving Private Ryan
During World War Two a man name Captain John Miller takes his troops to find Private James
Ryan. During the movie, many people died on Omaha Beach. Historically, many people were
injured and died. Saving Private Ryan takes place during a horrific time, however there are still
some historical inaccuracies. How historically accurate is the movie Saving Private Ryan?
Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story of the Niland Brothers. The Niland Brothers
were four paratroopers during World War Two. Two of them died, however for a period of time it
was thought that only one of them survived until it was discovered that the fourth was being held
captive at a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Even though the movie Saving Private Ryan is only...

The Philosophy Of Quality Management
1.0 Introduction
Quality management is defined as management activities and functions involved in determination
of quality policy and its implementation through means such as quality planning and quality
assurance (including quality control), which also called total quality management (TQM) (Business
Dictionary). Total Quality Management(TQM) is a comprehensive and structured approach to
organizational management that seeks to improve the quality of products and services through
ongoing refinements in response to continuous feedback. (Search CIO)
Philosophy of quality management
W Edwards Deming placed great importance and responsibility on management, at both the
individual and company level, believing management to be responsible for 94% of quality
problems. His fourteen point plan is a complete philosophy of management, that can be applied to
small or large organizations in the public, private or service sectors. (Deming, 2000). Deming s
wheel / PDCA cycle is a problem solving tools adopted by firms engaged in continuous
improvements. (Gomes) (See more on appendix 1)

physical ones. It places more importance on the interaction of social and biological factors in
the development of dementia. It s based on the understanding and complexity of human health

Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd )
Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct
disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the
DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal
relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation
of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest
that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however,
correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences
in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To
an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this
misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of
ASPD which do not apply to ODD. ODD is an early onset disorder, and as such, the behaviors
characteristic of the disorder are characteristic of children: angry or irritable moods,
argumentative or defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. These behaviors are not present in ASPD
or CD. In fact, the defining characteristic that separates the behaviors observed in ODD and CD
disorders is that the behaviors observed in CD impedes the basic rights of others or violate the
major age appropriate societal norms but ODD exhibit internalized behaviors that may simply annoy

Comparing James and Jung s Perspectives on Religious...
1.Are the perspectives on religious experience presented in William James Varieties and in Jung
compatible? Briefly explain and compare them.
For William James, his perspective on religious experience was skeptical. He divided religion
between institutional religion and personal religion. For institutional religion he made reference to
the religious group or organization that plays a critical part in the culture of a society. Personal
religion he defined as when an individual has a mystical experience which can occur regardless of
the culture. James was more focused on the personal religious experience, the feelings, acts, and
experiences of individual men in their solitude, so far as they apprehend themselves to stand in ...

Central to Jung s process of finding one s innate potential was the idea of the numinous. This is
characterized by the power or presence of a divinity. This was closely related to the idea of
synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a
meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance.
Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an
ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes
such as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner
personality in females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The
shadow archetype consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes
are of the collective unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives.
While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there
is also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as
a personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many
organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate
potential. Clearly, they both believed that there was a definite psychological factor in religion, but
James had a personal psychological

In 1993, the movie Jurassic Park changed movies by adding in life like animatronic dinosaurs and

a well filmed movie that didn t only have a good plot, but also starred famous actors and actresses
such as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as the main characters, and also Jimmy Fallon.
While the movie was marvelous because of its amazing cast, the plot has to have some credit.
Jurassic World is a movie that takes place on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, which is the home
of cloned dinosaurs and the main setting of the Jurassic Park film series. The movie starts off by
introducing Zach and Grey, two brothers visiting the park who are cousins of Claire Dearing, the
operations manager. During their trip to the park, scientists reveal a new genetically mutated
dinosaur named the Indominus Rex which escapes and causes havoc across the island. With the

The Problem Of Poverty On A Macro Level
Introduction
Individuals struggling to keep adequate shelter. Some may face challenges of seeking medical
attention. Others have no access to jobs or schools. Some parents fail daily in providing food and
water for their children. These are just a few sentences that describe poverty. If we closed our eyes
and envisioned poverty, we think of children in the second largest continent, Africa, standing
around with no clothes or shoes on. We think of the kids looking mal nutritious or with other
sicknesses and flies flying around their faces but they are too weak to brush them away. We think
of people with no education, no skills, or no ideas. These statements are far from facts. I will take
you through the ongoing issue of poverty from a macro level and show you how it can affect case
management. Then I will take you through the case management process of trying to end poverty.
Poverty on a Macro Level
Poverty on a macro level seems to be an ongoing issue that continues to catch the attention of the
richer countries, celebrities, charity organizations and other organizations. When we see the images
of people living in unlivable conditions or a catastrophe hits, empathy and sympathy automatically
kicks in. By having compassion, we as tax payers begin to send money to government donors.
Some of the money will be disbursed to charity organizations and non government organizations to
provide aid to a nation. The money then should go into completing projects such as building

Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary
The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The
Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200
people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony
admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is
similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because
they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being
falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward
spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims
of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on
society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In
Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person
speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in
the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a
window to see into each and every character s thoughts. Miller wanted to show everything going on
from the thought of every character to what the character says. Miller writes, (laughing bitterly)...
(He turns suddenly toward a sound outside. He starts for the door as Mary

Lou Gehrig s Ethos
Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. Lou Gehrig On July 4,
1939, at the Yankee Stadium, in New York, a man delivered one of the most efficient and
rousing speeches of all time. A man whose skill set did not lie within the realm of speechmaking;
rather his artistry lied on the baseball field. His name was Lou Gehrig, and the sole purpose of
his speech was to show how courageous and strong willed an individual can be when faced with
misfortune. Throughout Mr. Gehrig s rather short speech he heavily applied ethos, which is
based on our perception of a speaker s competence, character, good will, and dynamism. (Osborn
Turner, 2015, p.341) as well as pathos which appeals to personal feelings such as fear, pity, and
anger. (Osborn Turner, 2015, p.341). By using these two combined appeals it allowed Mr. Gehrig to
establish himself as a courteous and appreciative man who acknowledged himself as a an individual
lucky enough to be presented with the wondrous opportunities life held. Logos is the evidence and
proofs that the speech develops fit together into patterns of reasoning that thoughtful listeners find
acceptable, convincing, and compelling. (Osborn Turner, 2015,... Show more content on

he mentions specific individuals and specific moments from his life and responds with that s

Security Cameras Should Not Be Placed Public Schools

causing you to become very self conscious and uncomfortable. Security cameras should not be
placed in schools where students are learning, playing, laughing with their classmates. Children at a
young age shouldn t need to compromise their privacy rights because authorities want to place
security cameras in schools to watch over children. Unfortunately, an issue along the lines of
invasion of privacy came up at a girls basketball game at Livingston Middle School in Overton

In January 2014, The Washington County School District in Tennessee received sixteen cameras
because it was selected out of the twenty districts in the state to launch a new security camera
program so that it can monitor teacher effectiveness. The cameras hadn t been removed from the
boxes before the project was suspended indefinitely (neotoday). This was because parents and the
community were outraged by the idea of the school being transformed into an invasive, zero
privacy zone where kids were constantly being watched. While few people supported security
cameras Ken Trump, president of National School Safety and Security Services, believes that the
rush to install these systems [are] extremely expensive and sophisticated and should not be bought
because it s unnecessary and the money could instead benefit children through other educational
resources. Accordingly, a math teacher at Belleville Middle School in New Jersey and president of
the Belleville Education Association named, Mike Mignone, told the board members that the
money could have been spent on tools and technology that actually improve our students education .
Likewise, many parents and teachers would argue the same and would oppose security cameras.
The addition of new security cameras would be an unnecessary expense which will not contribute
to children s learning, and therefore shouldn t even be given any priority compared to children s
education. Another point to be made is that

John Maynard Keynes And The First World War
Introduction
Since the industrial revolution in the 1800s, the European economy changed for the first time.
John Maynard Keynes, a well known English economist, was a member of the British delegation
to the peace conference in Versailles in 1918. He offered an opinion in which would cause the
reparation against Germany to have negative economic consequences for Germany and Europe as
a whole. [cite text pg 341]. This paper will discuss in depth the life and approach John Maynard
Keynes used when analyzing the Treaty of Versailles. To do this, one must consider the effect of
the First World War and the imposed reparations on the German economy and the European

By 1914 all the European Powers had elected lower houses of parliament, and a majority of the
adult male population was enfranchised. The press was relatively free, and citizens could form
parties and pressure groups. Prior to the 19th century, most European citizens were under complete
ruling of a king or queen, meaning they have final say over any and all political, financial, legal,
and economic decisions. With the democratization of Europe, citizens could now participate in
important political decisions, which in turn, makes the European economy much more vulnerable.
Democratization of Europe makes the European economy more vulnerable because a king/queen
makes economical decisions based solely to make themselves more wealthy while furthering the
nation. On the other hand, a political leader who makes economical decisions to satisfy the needs
of citizens, keeping the future and wealth of the nation as a lower priority. Also, a king/queen is
more likely to be more experienced and might have more attachment to important decisions, due to
the fact that they are taking over the role of the rulings of a previous family member in the country.
They also make decisions that impact the nation long term, rather than just for the amount of time
for which they are in power. Alternatively, in the consideration of democratic leaders, there
generally is a lot of leaders to make decisions for the country, allowing

The Adlerian Theory Alfred Adler was the founder of Adlerian Counseling. He was born in
1870 in the country of Austria. who gave his theory the name Individual Psychology, because he
wanted people to see that his theory and methods were designed to help clients help themselves.
He believed that everyone had and internal need to be a part of society, and a desire to contribute
to that society. That everyone strives for perfection, and everyone initially feels inferior to
everyone else. He believed that when that feeling is not overcome, inferiority complexes develop,

Comparing The Legend Of King Arthur And Merlin
The legend of King Arthur has inspired, and continues to inspire, many retellings of the well
known stories and cast of characters. Ranging from film to literature to art, these retellings often
include depictions of two key characters in the legend: King Arthur and and the wizard Merlin.
Disney s The Sword and the Stone (1963) and the British Broadcasting Corporation program Merlin
(2008 2012) both showcase the relationship between Merlin and Arthur in the development of
Arthur, but they differ in approach; in the animated version, Merlin assumes the role of a mentor
while the television program depicts Merlin as a friend to Arthur.

This shows the value of many teachers in the development of Arthur because Arthur is taught by
Archimedes basic and necessary skills which Arthur would use in his kingship, while Merlin
teaches Arthur the importance of values and moral standards. This also shows that different
teachers can impart equally relevant, but different wisdom. It mirrors society s knowing of human
ess because it show that the society believes one person does not know everything, and that a well
rounded individual needs many teachers to know the finer points of specific topics.
In contrast, in the television program Merlin, Merlin takes on the role as a friend to help Arthur
develop as a king. Immediately, the viewers know Merlin is not afraid to be direct with Arthur,

Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed
on them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is
known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as
more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a
motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform
better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when
they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping
means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your
skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a
tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may
begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result
from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack
recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this
may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful
can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what

Pros And Cons Of Artificial Turf Fields

good for the environment, our health, and the community?
As with any major issue there is always a debate with two sides. In San Francisco the divide is
between the soccer players and the environmentalists. The soccer players want more artificial turf
because it gives them a reliable safe and easy way to participate in the sport they love. The
environmentalists say that artificial turf fields are harmful to the community because they leach
toxic chemicals into the air and the water. Also, the use of turf in children s playgrounds exposes
kids to chemicals that are very harmful at a young age. The voters decided to install artificial turf

Climate Plays an Important Environmental Influence on...
Climate plays an important environmental influence on our ecosystems, and climate changes
and the influences of it affect ecosystems in many ways. Ecosystems are already showing
negative impacts under current levels of climate change. One of the biggest issues that we are
facing nowadays is global warming. With the global warming and the rising of the temperature
of sea water, it has great impact on the species in the ocean. More species is facing extinction and
with the rising of temperature, it could force species in the ocean to migrate to higher latitudes
where temperatures are lower and easier to survive. In this research, I would like to know if global
warming would force fishmigrate to north or not. I will test the sea water temperature and the
survivability of zooplankton with different water temperature. By doing this research, it enables us
to understand the habit of species in the ocean and to avoid the extinction of certain species. This
research will also prove that global warming influences the whole ocean ecosystem and we should
recognize this issue and think what we can do to reduce and slow down the damage to the ocean.
As the temperature of water is rising, warm water fish are expanding into areas where was
previously inhabited by coldwater species and cause coldwater species losing their habitats. When
waters turning warmer due to global warming, the area that allow coldwater species to migrate is
reduced, and this might cause some species extinct.

How Does Gordon Bennett Create An Indigenous Australian...
Good artists copy, great artists steal.
By borrowing key visual features of Colin McCahon s work Victory Over Death II (1970) Gordon
Bennett recontextualises the work in his piece Self Portrait (but I always wanted to be one of the
good guys) (1990) to create an alternative perspective on Indigenous Australian identity. Through
appropriation, Bennett also emphasises
Born in Timaru, New Zealand 1919, Colin McCahon is regarded as one of New Zealand s most
prominent and celebrated artists. He was passionate about art and painting from a young age, and is
accredited with introducing modernism to New Zealand art during the early twentieth century,
alongside fellow artists Toss Woollaston and Rita Angus. His artwork is generally classified into...

He completed a Fine Arts degree at the Queensland College of Art, and was one of the first
Aboriginal artists to become successful in a predominantly white profession. He refused to let
his race define his success and often denied to be recognised as an exceptional artist simply
because of his Aboriginality, even to the point where he rejected offers to display his work in
Aboriginal exhibitions. He spoke of his wishes to avoid banal containment as a professional
Aborigine, which both misrepresents me and denies my upbringing and Scottish/English
heritage, as well as his hopes that his daughter would be able to grow up in a culture where her
race would not define her life or success. It was for these reasons and many more that racial
confrontation became a common theme in his works. His work Self Portrait (but I always
wanted to be one of the good guys) an appropriated version of Colin McCahon s Victory Over
Death II reflects his statement that he was often confronted by images of Aborigines depicted as
being violent and volatile growing up. His use of a cowboy and a group of American Indians in
the painting, despite his aboriginal heritage, could be because of his desire to compare the parallels
between the two, and propose the idea that both Aboriginal and American Indians were seen as the
bad guys despite it being obvious that they were the marginalised

expressing themselves that what the embassador brought was not enough to the king, as

document the people, the moors, in Calicut acted in a mean way towards the European, da

Broken Spears; The Aztec Account of the Conquest of Mexico (1519) was much different. In
this document Moctezuma welcomes Cortez and the Spaniards in such a really good way that he
let the Spaniards do what they wanted to do with the gold in Mexico city as well as with his
treasures, but when the Spaniards burned a cannon the Mexicans misunderstood the action and
got scared, they didn t even wanted to be around the Spaniards and when the Malinche ask the
Mexicans to help by bringing food and water to the Spaniards as they were tired they did it as
quick as possible, They brought them whatever they needed, but shooked with fear as they did so

About Shingles Essay
Shingles, herpes zoster, is a very contagious and painful rash, or blister that appears on the skin.
These rashes most commonly appear on the sides of the body in stripes. The stripes are made up
of many very painful blisters caused by a certain type of virus. The varicella zoster, most
commonly known as the chicken pox virus attacks the nerve roots in that area. The herpes zoster
virus is in the herpes family, including HSV, herpes simple virus, which causes cold sores, fever
blisters, and genital herpes. (WebMD, 2011) Most people are required to get the chicken pox shot
when they are children although some do not. The chicken pox shot helps to keep out the virus by
keeping it dormant in the nerves. The varicella zoster virus stays in a... Show more content on

Some of the first symptoms of shingles may include intense side pain, itching, tingling, and
burning. The symptoms most commonly appear before the rashes or blisters. Then red patches
on the skin form. These turn into clusters of blisters in stripes most commonly on the sides of
the torso, but may appear on the eyes, face, mouth, and ears. The blisters break soon after this
leaving the skin open to ulcers forming. The ulcers form a crust or scab to protect it. The scab
will fall off in approximately two to three weeks. Scarring usually does not exist. Additional
symptoms include chills, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, headache, joint pain, and difficulty
moving some facial muscles. If a woman is exposed to shingles during her pregnancy, and
acquires shingles, her pregnancy may be complicated. The mother may get very sick, and the
baby may get chicken pox right away or within a few days of birth. If the pregnant woman has
shingles within a few days before birth this can be very bad for the baby. The newborn baby
might not be able to handle all the stress on the body of the virus attacking the nerves so young. It
is not very common for this to happen although it can. If the rash is present, it is advised to go to
the doctor within three days. There is no cure for shingles but many medicines can lessen the
effects of the illness on the body. Shingles is most easily diagnosed by pains running along the

She was forty when SeaWorld killed her. Dawn Brancheau took blunt force trauma to the head,
neck, and torso before drowning. The SeaWorld trainer died doing what she loved, which was
interacting with orcas. The killer whale, Tilikum, attacked her.
Opening in 1964, theme park and entertainment company Seaworld has three locations: Orlando,
Florida; San Diego, California; San Antonio, Texas. SeaWorld s most popular attractions include
their orca shows, including One Ocean and Blue Horizons. Once an orca belongs to SeaWorld, it
stays there for the rest of its life.
SeaWorld should be shut down for its mistreatment of orcas.

Then, SeaWorld transports baby orcas to other parks, often too soon for it to be away from its
mother. Born September 25th, 1985 at SeaWorld Orlando, Kalina was the original baby Shamu.
According to British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Kalina was moved in 1990 to SeaWorld Ohio
for 10 months, SeaWorld San Diego for 8 months, then SeaWorld San Antonio. Kalina s mom,
Katina, was never a very vocal whale according to former SeaWorld trainer, Samantha Berg. After
Kalina was taken away, Katina stayed in the corner of a pool, shaking, screeching, and crying.
There was nothing that you could call that, watching it, besides grief, said Berg. In 1994, Kalina
returned to SeaWorld Orlando. Due to such a long absence, her mother ignored her for the rest of
her life.
Captivity is detrimental to orcas health. According to PETA, less than 1% of orcas in the wild
have collapsed dorsal fins. A collapsed dorsal fin is a sign of depression, illness, injury, or
dehydration. In SeaWorld, 100% of captive male Orcas have a collapsed dorsal fin. Orcas are
captured from the oceans and thrown together in a pool. Though all have that signature black and
white pattern, they are not all the same. Neuroscientist Lori Marino discovered that orcas are
highly emotional due to an extra part of their brain that even humans do not have. An orca s sense
of self is distributed among the individuals in their

Allusions In Brave New World Analysis
Aldous Huxley s Brave New World uses allusions to Shakespeare and historical figures in order
to show how detached from long lasting cultural values humans can become. The first allusions to
Shakespeare is made in the title, Brave New World. This alludes to The Tempest, O, wonder!
/ How many goodly creatures are there here! / How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, /
That has such people in t! (ACT 5. SC. 1) Huxley chose this title in order to poke fun at how
wonderful and beautiful society thinks the world is, which is important to remember when,
throughout the novel, society believes they are at their best and have achieved the highest
degree of community possible. The main character John grew up with a blend of native and
civilized cultures. His mother kept two books with her in Mexico, one being The Complete
Works of William Shakespeare. This book being the only way he was taught to read and write
makes it easier for John to connect to Shakespeare and his writings. The fact that he, a savage , is
using a higher level of speech than the civilized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and most important notable person he alludes to is Henry Ford. Ford s company
invented the assembly line, which is being used in Brave New World s Central London Hatchery
and Conditioning Centre, when the workers perform Bokanovsky s Process on human eggs.
Bokanovsky s Process is an allusion to Maurice Bokanovsky, a French bureaucrat who wanted a
more efficient government. It then makes sense that Huxley named a fictitious scientific process
for cloning after him. The Malthusian Belt is almost the opposite of Bokanovsky s Process. It is a
birth control belt that is worn by the women in Brave New World. It alludes to Thomas Malthus, a
British economist who thought that the world s population would grow out of control if allowed to
have too many

An Introduction to Windows 2000 Professional Reliability
Windows 2000 Professional is up to 30 percent faster and, according to National Software Testing
Labs (NSTL) tests, 13 times more reliable than Windows 98. The operating system is the most
reliable version of Windows ever produced.
Memory conflicts and missing or altered system files caused many of the system crashes prior to
Windows 2000. To put an end to these problems, Microsoft changed Windows 2000 memory
management to reduce the chance that software applications will interfere with one another. In
addition, Windows 2000 includes a built in safeguard called Windows FileProtection. This feature

NSTL collected uptime data in the real world environment of several customer sites and
concluded that the average system uptime between failures of Windows 2000 Professional is 13
times more than that of Windows 98 and three times more than that of Windows NT Workstation
4.0. The following graph shows results of the test. Another test conducted by ZD labs showed that
over a 90 day period Windows 2000 Professional did not fail, while Windows 98 and Windows NT
did.
IT managers have stated unequivocally that Windows 2000 Professional provides far superior
performance and reliability compared to Windows 95. The reported performance disparity between
Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows NT Workstation and Windows 2000 Professional has not
been as extreme as with Windows 95, but significant improvements do exist. A 300 percent increase
in hardware support, significant improvements in hardware utilization and the long awaited
combination of stability and user friendliness for laptop systems are just a few examples ((2)

Public Meeting At The City Of Saskatoon Where I Grew Up
Bruno, Saskatchewan, a small town east of Saskatoon where I grew up, is known for its hay
farms, and cherry festivals. Similar to other small towns, you will find the town office on the
busiest street in town the main street. On February 22, 2016, I attended a public meeting in Bruno
s town office. The public meeting was a town of Bruno regular monthly council meeting. I planned
on staying as long as it took for me to get the information I needed on policy and how the council
made decisions. Within this council meeting, the council freely discussed matters, occasionally
having some order. In addition, there was no form of talking stick, which caused Interruptions and
over talking.

Even though the decision making process was scattered, shared decision making is what was
happening. On one issue they were all clear, quick and on the same page. On the other issues
discussed they were scattered. There was no one leader of the decision; there were multiple
leaders for a discussion at different times. Therefore, as an observer, this was extremely difficult
to follow along. Bruno council did follow shared decision making and a strategic planning
approach. Even though they used the majority of the steps, the discussion could have been more
formally approached. However, you can take into consideration this council represents a small
population. The support for this approach consists of reform minded policy makers and leaders,
which is hard to come by in a smaller community. These individuals that were sitting at the table are
knowledgeable individuals. However, they do not enable the experiences broader sectors do. Even
though, Bruno council lacks the broader spectrum, they do practice one of the most important
benefits of policy making, shared learning.
The first thing on the agenda was revising the employee code of conduct and conflict of interest
policy. The administrator asked if everyone read the code of conduct and the policy, some of the
council said no. One councillor then asked what the objection to the policy was. The councillor in
charge of the policy clarified. She brought forth words that should be changed. Therefore,

Similarities Between Han Feiizi And Confucianism
Confucius vs. Han Feizi Philosophy Paper
Confucius philosophy is a lot better than Han Feizi s. This is because it allows Chinese to live a
great life but still follow the law. Confucius was able to break down the problems that people were
facing and that helped a lot. The Chinese were ready for change after the Zhou Dynasty fell and
Confucius was able to come up with a solution that solved that major problem and it worked out
perfectly. Confucianism was not the only philosophy introduced at the time though, Han Feizi
established a philosophy too called Legalism. Confucianism is better than Legalism because it
allows Chinese to live a good life and still be happy people.
Confucianism is based off of five main concepts. The first concept is JEN: The virtue of virtues .
This concept states the goodness of the human spirit. The idea that mankind is bonded together
as brother and sister, the ideal relationship between human beings. There are people like us all
around the world that have some type of disorder and are not treated right and are made fun of. It
is very wrong to judge somebody because of their disorder and JEN states the golden rule, Do not
do things to others what you would not want others to do to you. ... Show more content on

called bad jobs so that the well educated people get the good jobs. This is wrong because having
that line of smart and not smart in a nation can cause problems. All the people should be educated

  • 2. The Geisha Geisha The geisha has been the subject of innumerable books and films focusing on the myth of the profession and the culture in which she represented. Various portrayals of the geisha have focused on different aspects of their lifestyle and the different versions also have varying degrees of accuracy in their depictions. In three different films and one book, four different groups try to explain exactly what it was like for people who lived as geishas or alongside these women. Some versions of the story portray the geisha life as a very pleasant one where the role of geisha was an honored title. Others, like Memoirs of a Geisha paint this existence in a more unpleasant life, equating geisha with high class prostitution. Some tell the fantasy version of geisha hood through a modern and decidedly western sensibility and use the profession as a form of othering the Japanese people, while the others tell a far more realistic and eastern perspective of the same topic. The films to be discussed are: Madame Butterfly, the Barbarian and the Geisha, and Memoirs of a Geisha. The book is an autobiography of a real life geisha, written by Sayo Matsuda. In one of the first films to portray a geisha, Madame Butterfly tells the story of a young geisha who falls in love with an American who marries her and impregnates her, only to abandon her to marry a proper, white wife. This marriage, unlike the one to the geisha Cho Cho San is the one that counts for the American, named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Explain Why Did Tsar Nicholas II Face Problems From 1906... Why did Tsar Nicholas II continue to face problems from 1906 to 1914? After the 1905 Revolution, the Tsar got a little taste of what was to come if he did not change the way the country functioned. However too little was done too late and after war was declared and Stolypin s assassination it was almost certain that there would be no more tsarist regime. Nicholas II promised in the October Manifesto that a duma may be set up, so he can get some liberal support. This was the first time the Tsar has tried at a democratic government. However what displeased the people is what the Tsar had done in April 1906. He passed on the Fundamental Laws which basically allowed him to overrule any decision of the Duma and that he would keep most of his autocratic power. It seemed that nothing has changed after the 1905 Revolution. The first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many historians believe that if there was no World War I, Stolypin would be able to save Russiaby resolving the peasant s discontent. As the peasants had no land of their own and the Mir was creating major problems, the peasants were quite angry. Also they made up most of the population, which showed that they must be taken seriously or they could do major damage to the country. Stolypin gave the peasants the power to choose to leave the Mirs and join Kulaks freely. Because of this there were some successes; record harvests in 1913 and production was increasing however it depended on the region. The problem was that Stolypin was assassinated and nobody was there to continue his reforms. However there were many peasants that were left without anything and they were forced to go to towns and look for work. This new class of peasants were dangerous as they were easy targets for radicalism. Also most of the land still was owned by the high class and not a lot has changed. Silzer and Dowell (2010) define Talent Management as an integrated set of processes, programs, and cultural norms in an organization designed and implemented to attract, develop, deploy, and retain talent to achieve strategic objectives and meet future business needs (p. 18). Consequently, the demand for talent is outstripping the supply. The ability for a firm to create an integrated system that yields a continual flow of talent ready to address specific strategic and operational opportunities may be the single most enduring competitive advantage. While organizations often find that their strategies, products, services, or markets require change, the need to have relevant, differentiated talent to achieve these business goals remains constant (pp. 73 35). Boudreau and Ramstad (2002) propose focusing on pivotal talent or the talent where improvements in capabilities will make the most significant impact on competitive advantage. When talent management is integrated into strategic business planning, there is an opportunity to discuss the capabilities and skills needed to execute the plan. This helps leaders create proactive plans to ensure that they have the talent they need to achieve the strategy (p. 7). According to Aguirre, D., Hewlett S. A., and Post L. • 5. The Differences Between Football And Nfl Football There are over 200 million unique viewers that watch football every year. College and NFL football is one of the major things that can seise Americans from thinking about all of the awful things in the world and unite people together. Certain things come with each league that are different and similar to each other. There are even some areas of both leagues that people most likely did not even know about either of them. These two notorious footballleagues have many similarities and differences in the way that they are constructed and played. The different rules of each league have an impact on how the game flows and how it is played. Each rule has many factors that can manipulate the outcome of the call on the football field during a game. In this case either league has their own idea of what a catch has to consists of to be considered one. For college football, the player who catches the ball only has to have one foot in bounds and retain a firm grasp on the ball. On the other hand, NFL has a different set of rules for what a catch has to consist of. In the NFL just like college the player has to maintain possession of the ball. But, the main difference between the two rules according to Cyd Zeigler (2015), is that the player touches the ground inbounds with both feet (para. 9). This can cause a higher level of difficulty towards the players to perform a catch. There are other rules between the two leagues that are differently constructed. Struggle for Equal Work Essay Struggle for Equal Work The development of the Lowell Mills in the 1820s provided American women with their first opportunity to work outside the home with reasonable wages and relatively safe work. About ten years later however, working in the mills wasn t the same. Working conditions became more vigorous, the mills were unsafe and the pay received didn t match the amount of work done. The Lowell family s textile mills were set up to attract the unmarried daughters of farm families, hoping that they would work a few years before getting married. These young women were called Lowell Mill Girls. A typical working day in the mills started with a factory bell ringing at about four in the morning to wake up employees. After this, employees ... Comfort wasn t something women were used to while working in the mills, especially in the boarding houses where they stayed. Unmarried women who worked in the Lowell mills lived in boarding houses within the area. A widow was usually the supervisor in these places and was responsible for the moral and physical well being of the girls. The women were required to pay about a dollar a week to live there and the money was taken directly out of their paychecks. About 30 women lived in the boarding houses with about six living in each room. The rooms, which had three beds, were poorly ventilated, overcrowded, lacked privacy and infested with rats and roaches. A 1930s mill worker said, In vain do I try to soar in fancy and imagination above the dull reality around me but beyond the roof of the factory I cannot rise. Women today would not stand for these conditions. We live in a world today where women hold just the same jobs as men. Work such as in the textile industry wouldn t be a popular job to fill since there are so many opportunities today. A wireless sensor network (WSN) comprises of a large number of independently distributed sensor nodes in which sensors employed at each and every node. These sensors are used to monitor physical or environmental conditions, and can easily pass their data through the sensor network to the main site. Each sensor node consists of a sensing system for information acquisition, real time data processing, a power supply unit, and wireless communicating modules, which is a basic system of a WSN. • 10. The Bubonic Plague Essay The Bubonic Plague Introduction Plague, was a term that was applied in the Middle Ages to all fatal epidemic diseases, but now it is only applied to an acute, infectious, contagious disease of rodents and humans, caused by a short, thin, gram negative bacillus. In humans, plague occurs in three forms: bubonic plague, pneumonic plague, and septicemic plague. The best known form is the bubonic plague and it is named after buboes, or enlarged, inflamed lymph nodes, which are characteristics of the plague in the groin or neck or armpit. The buboes will swell until they are approximately the size of a chicken egg. If a case is nonfatal than the temperature will begin to fall in about five days, and approaches normal in about two weeks, but in fatal cases death will probably occur within four days. Yersinia Pestis, an infectious agent is the cause of the Bubonic Plague. Yersina Pestis is a bacteria, which means the cells lack the internal organization of eukaryotic cells. These bacteria cells would contain the membrane but they would not be able to subdivide the inside of the cell. These bacteria cells do not have a nucleus so instead they have a nucleiod that contains genetic material. The two types of bacteria cells are gram negative and gram positive. Yersina Pestis is gram negative and that means that antibiotics are less effective on the plague because of a lipopolysaccharide layer over their walls that adds extra protection. Antisocial Personality Disorder ( Aspd ) Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), opposition defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct disorder (CD) are three distinct disorders based upon their respective diagnostic criteria in the DSM 5. If ODD and CD were mild forms of ASPD, then there would need to be causal relationship between the childhood manifestations of ODD and CD and the adult manifestation of ASPD. There is evidence of comorbidity between ODD and CD, and also evidence to suggest that children diagnosed with these disorders may go on to develop ASPD later in life; however, correlation does not equal causation. The three disorders have subtle but important differences in their associated behaviors, underlying causes, treatment outcomes, and neurological signs. To an untrained observer, ODD may appear as the mildest form of the three disorders; however, this misunderstanding is based on observations of a limited set of behaviors that are characteristic of ASPD which do not apply to ODD. ODD is an early onset disorder, and as such, the behaviors characteristic of the disorder are characteristic of children: angry or irritable moods, argumentative or defiant behavior, and vindictiveness. These behaviors are not present in ASPD or CD. This was closely related to the idea of synchronicity, which is when two or more events that seem to be unrelated occur together in a meaningful way, and would be unlikely to occur by chance. Jung s idea of experiences of synchronicity included the presence of archetypes. An archetype is an ideal example or model person that others copy or base their actions upon. Jung had archetypes such as the animus, the anima, and the shadow. The animus is expressed as a masculine inner personality in females, while the anima is expressed as a feminine inner personality in males. The shadow archetype consists of repressed shortcomings, weaknesses, and instincts. These archetypes are of the collective unconscious, and not based on people in their daily lives. While there are some similarities between James and Jung s views on religious experience, there is also a great deal of opposing views. James was focused on the mystic experience of religion as a personal one and was not in favor of organized religion. Jung on the other hand, studied many organized religions and believed that an institutional setting was beneficial in finding one s innate potential. Others have no access to jobs or schools. Some parents fail daily in providing food and water for their children. These are just a few sentences that describe poverty. If we closed our eyes and envisioned poverty, we think of children in the second largest continent, Africa, standing around with no clothes or shoes on. We think of the kids looking mal nutritious or with other sicknesses and flies flying around their faces but they are too weak to brush them away. We think of people with no education, no skills, or no ideas. These statements are far from facts. • 26. Analysis Of The Crucible And Half Hanged Mary The Crucible and Half Hanged Mary were written and based off of the Salem Witch trials. The Salem witch trials occurred in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693. More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft and 20 were executed. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted. This is similar to today in that today, people are being accused of things they haven t done just because they look a certain way or are similar to the people who actually did something bad. Being falsely accused of something can send people into hysterics and send them into a downward spiral. While both Atwood and Miller both seek to reveal the injustices incurred by the victims of the Salem witch trials, Miller focuses on the effects of hysteria and religious zealotry on society, while Atwood aims to commemorate the excruciating experience of a single victim. In Half hanged Mary, the use of first person allows the reader to read the thoughts of the person speaking or thinking and allows the connection between reader and character to grow. While in the crucible, having the reader be told the story from the narrator s perspective allows the reader a window to see into each and every character s thoughts. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. He refused to let his race define his success and often denied to be recognised as an exceptional artist simply because of his Aboriginality, even to the point where he rejected offers to display his work in Aboriginal exhibitions. He spoke of his wishes to avoid banal containment as a professional Aborigine, which both misrepresents me and denies my upbringing and Scottish/English heritage, as well as his hopes that his daughter would be able to grow up in a culture where her race would not define her life or success. It was for these reasons and many more that racial confrontation became a common theme in his works. His work Self Portrait (but I always wanted to be one of the good guys) an appropriated version of Colin McCahon s Victory Over Death II reflects his statement that he was often confronted by images of Aborigines depicted as being violent and volatile growing up. His use of a cowboy and a group of American Indians in the painting, despite his aboriginal heritage, could be because of his desire to compare the parallels between the two, and propose the idea that both Aboriginal and American Indians were seen as the bad guys despite it being obvious that they were the marginalised ...
