The Consequences Of Harmful And Underage College Drinking
College DrinkingHarmful and underage college drinking are signifcant public health problems, and
they exact an enormous toll on the intellectual and social lives of students on campuses across the
United States. Drinking at college has become a ritual that students often see as an integral part of
their higher education experience. Many students come to college with established drinking habits,
and the college environment can exacerbate the problem. According to a national survey, almost 60
percent of college students ages 18 22 drank alcohol in the past month,1 and almost 2 out of 3 of them
engaged in binge drinking during that same timeframe.2Consequences of Harmful and Underage
College DrinkingDrinking affects college students, their families, and college communities at large.
Researchers estimate that each year:DeathAbout 1,825 college students between the ages of 18 and 24
die from alcohol related unintentional injuries, including motor vehicle crashes.3Assault About
696,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been
drinking.4Sexual AssaultAbout 97,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 report experiencing
alcohol related sexual assault or date rape.4What is binge drinking? Many college alcohol problems
are related to binge drinking. Binge drinking is a pattern of drinking that brings blood alcohol
concentration (BAC) levels to 0.08 g/dL. This typically occurs after 4 drinks for women and 5 drinks

David Copperfield captured the hearts and imagination of generations of readers since the day of its
publication. Charles Dickens chose the main character, David Copperfield, to describe his own life,
thoughts and experiences. This is the reason why several readers describe this classic to be an
autobiography of the writer.

From 1842, Charles and his family began to travel throughout the world. Initially visiting Canada and
the United States. He later travelled to Italy, Switzerland and France.
After his tour of the US and Canada, he published American Notes which didn t go down well in the
US, being that, at that time, it was a relatively new nation and hadn t developed much of an attitude or
sense of humour to anti slavery. Alternatively it could have been that Charles expressed an offensive
attitude towards tobacco chewing, which, by his own account was practiced widely.
In 1845, Dickens founded an amateur theatrical company which he continued until the end of his life
and was to take up a great deal of his time. He later travelled with Wilkie Collins and Augustus Egg,
the former of which co wrote the play The Frozen Deep with Dickens.
In 1856, Dickens bought an estate that he had held a high regard for since childhood, Gad s Hill. Hans
Christian Anderson, visited the family there regularly until he out stayed his welcome.
First public paid readings began in 1858 and continued until three months before he died in 1870.
These readings became enormously popular, after all, no one was able to portray the characters better
than the author himself. These performances took place in many locations throughout England,
Scotland, Ireland,

CHS Segmentation In Health Care
Julie, as you indicated, segmentation allowed CHS to provide services specifically selected to meet
the needs of the seven defined population groups. Analyzing all of these data points helped them to get
a comprehensive look at their patient population and the factors that affect their healthcare.
Segmentation helped to improve patient outcomes by targeting specific risk factors in a given
population, as well as estimate the cost of providing care, which helped them with payer contract
negotiations (Quelch Rodriquez, 2015). Other healthcare organization have used segmentation to
provide care to specific patient populations. However, segmentation will often look at clinical and
financial data to identify patients with chronic conditions,

Malaria In Cuba Essay
Malaria has been a major life threatening disease for thousands of years, and continues to threaten
millions of lives around the world. It infects approximately 219 million people each year, mostly poor
women and children. What is striking about malaria is the fact that it has the worse effect on those
with the least ability to fight the disease. The Republic of Cuba believes that malaria prevention,
treatment, and research efforts must be accelerated to eliminate the burden of this disease across
Africa, Asia, the Americas, and any country or territory at risk of malaria transmissions.
Due to the fact that there is currently no risk of malaria in the Republic of Cuba, malaria is not an
issue in the Republic of Cuba. The Republic of Cuba however, would like to help countries or
territories at risk with their knowledge and experience they have had with malaria. After vector control

And people really appreciate that in this country including the government. And so, they ve done

Huckleberry Finn Superiority
In the generations prior to the Civil War, slavery ran rampant through America, especially in the
South. The vast majority of caucasian people in the South owned some number of African American
slaves and because of this, white superiority flourished. The entire culture of America in this time was
that the white man was better than the black man and the black man deserved the hard labor because it
is all he was really good for. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is set in this pre war
time period, in the South, where the slavery and white supremacy was felt most prominently. Huck
Finn is the young boy, narrator, and protagonist of this novel and was raised with all of these ideals of
the superiority of the white man. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While visiting with the Grangerfords, there is a slave man who keeps running up to Huck and shouting
for him to join him at the swamp to look at moccasins. Huck rudely thinks He oughter know a body

an imbecile with a great affinity for snakes. However, Huck fails to realize that rather than real,
poisonous, dangerous snakes in the woods, the slave is actually referring to a man in a large amount of
real danger: Jim. Huck s automatic assumption is that the slave man is certainly not capable of doing
anything good or productive and he only actually goes with him to find out what suspicious activities
he is up to. Later, in chapter twenty seven, Huck learns that a tight knit family of slaves who used to
belong to Mary Jane Wilks and her family are being separated and sold. Rather than feeling bad for
the slave family preparing to be split up forever, Huck fixates on the girls and how they feel. I can t
ever get it out of my memory, the sight of them poor miserable girls (138). He sees them all together
and rather than joining in, feeling bad for the slaves, Huck feels bad that the girls are sad and wants to
make them stop being sad. In a slight bit, he shows empathy by at least mentioning that

Voodoo Priests Essay
Healthcare professionals have been trying to establish western healthcare in Haiti due to the increasing
number of Haitians being infected by AIDS. However, Haitians choose to see voodoo priests instead
of western medical doctors because religion is very important to them and voodoo priests provide the
spiritual healing they seek. The consequence of western doctors not understanding the importance of
voodoo religion in the treatment process is the biggest deterrent to Haitians accepting western
healthcare. Instead of trying to make Haitians change their beliefs, healthcare professionals should
work with voodoo priests to increase AIDS awareness. Undoubtedly, their role as a trusted spiritual
advisor and healer would be used to influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, doctors can learn how to establish a trustful relationship with Haitians by observing
healing ceremonies preformed by Voodoo priests. Through this learning process, western doctors will
begin to understand the importance of non western methods for the treatment of Haitian s illnesses.
According to McCabe (2007), the acknowledgement and acceptance of non western interpretations
and techniques is paramount to the process of treating ethnic minority clients. Since traditional healers
are acknowledged in their community as being a trusted spiritual healer it is critical for healthcare
practitioners to understand the role of the traditional healers in counseling, health promotion and
education.
Given that between 65% 80% of the worlds human population is dependent on traditional and
alternative medicine as their primary healthcare, it becomes necessary that these issues be part of the
discourse on health and healing in the 21 century . (World Health Organization,
2008)
Combining western and voodoo approaches to health and well being will meet the cultural, spiritual
and physical needs of Haitians. It will increase their ability to establish a trusting doctor patient
relationship, and so Haitians will become more open to accepting western healthcare treatment for
AIDS. A successful collaboration between voodoo priests and western doctors will assist in the
progress of obtaining referral s in both directions; this

The Pharisees History
Overview of the Pharisees History There were two main groups of Jews at the time of Jesus (the
Pharisees and the Sadducees). The very name Pharisee is derived from the Hebrew word to separate.
Separated from what? In essence, they separated themselves from the people and the manners of the
world. In general, the Pharisees were the middle class, holding jobs like merchants. They were very
popular amongst the common people. Their power base was the synagogue a place of worship for
Jews. Although they were not great in number, they did have tremendous influence over the people.
The Pharisees were by far the most vocal and influential of any other religious group at the time. Their

Adhd and Piaget s Theories
PART ONE What is attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder? ADHD is a behavioral disorder that is
neurodevelopmental in origin meaning it is caused by a biological problem with the brain functions
that control emotions and learning (Low Birthweight in Newborns). Symptoms of this disorder range
from mild to severe, and not all children will have the same symptoms. Although no main source is
known to cause this disorder, doctors and researchers believe that ADHD symptoms are linked to
neurodevelopmental problems (Low Birth Weight in Newborns). Studies are being done to conclude
other possible causes, including low birth weight. Low birth weight is a term used to describe babies

During this stage, the child can engage in symbolic play, and have developed an imagination. This
child may use an object to represent something else, such pretending that a broom is a horse. An
important feature a child displays during this stage is egocentrism. This refers to the child s inability to
see a situation from another person s point of view. To test whether or not children are egocentric,
Piaget used the Three Mountain Task . Piaget concluded that the four year olds thinking was
egocentric, as the seven year olds was not. Children, at this stage, do not understand more complex
concepts such as cause and effect, time, and comparison. The third stage is the Concrete Operational
Stage, which occurs around age seven to age eleven. This stage marks the beginning of logical or
operational thoughts for the child. Their thinking becomes less egocentric, and the child can now
understand that although the appearance of something changes, the thing itself does not. For example,
if a child decided to spread out a pile of blocks, they know there are still as many blocks as there were
before, even though it looks different. The last stage of Piaget s cognitive development is known as
the Formal Operational Stage, which occurs between the ages of eleven and sixteen. Adolescents have
now gained the ability to think in an abstract matter, and can now understand things such as science
and algebra. The most distinct difference between the

A Research Study On Pharmaceutical Compounds
Continuous growth in population of the world has led to rapid increase in demand and competition for
water. Also, Canada is one of the highest water users per capita in the world(Government of Canada).
Therefore, removal of contaminates from water that threat the quality and integrity of water resources
is an important issue and demands vast researches to be conducted in this field.
Pharmaceutical compounds, as one of the pollutants of water resources, are continuously emerging
aquatic environment due to their extensive usage in human and veterinary medicines and this has
become a scientific and social concern. Moreover, these compounds are only partially removed in
waste water treatment plants (WWTPs); hence are entered to the treated outlet effluents of these
systems (Lydia M. Barrett 2015, Jia, Y 2012). Antibiotics are one of the most important groups of
pharmaceutical compounds and are extensively used for either prevention or treatment of disease (Hao
Chen 2011). Occurrence of antibiotics in aquatic environment causes the development of antibacterial
resistance bacteria and genes(Lydia M. Barrett 2015) that causes the normally effective antibiotics in
use to not work well or fail completely(Vera Homem,2011). For instance, the Canadian Intensive Care
Unit (CAN_ICU) conducted a survey on the prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in intensive
care units (ICUs) in 19 hospitals over the Canada. Their research revealed that about 20% of overall

5. What effect did temperature have on muscle contraction? Do some outside Internet research (cite

Temperature effects on muscle contraction are the ease with which oxygen is released from
hemoglobin. This slower rate of release leads to a lower amount of oxygen available to your muscles,
making contraction more difficult.

Gender Roles, Sexuality, And Sexual Identity In The Monk
The most outstanding convention that is broken in The Monk involves gender roles, sexuality, and
sexual identity. The character of Matilda lends herself to a feminist critical lens; the way that she
bends gender roles to suit her agenda serves to highlight the (notion/ fact/ truth/ agh) that the only way
for Matilda to gain control over Ambrosio is to assume the roles of a man, even if she does so while
remaining a woman biologically. Matilda is introduced to the reader as a timid and beautiful youth
named Rosario. Rosario has attempted to gain the favor of the abbot and he has accomplished so, the
narrator reveals that Ambrosio loved him with all of the affection of a Father (Lewis 43). For a time,
the young apprentice lives underneath the Monk; learning all that he can and enjoying the ever
growing affection that Ambrosio bestows upon him, proclaiming: Your regularity, your gentleness,
your talents have rendered you an object of universal esteem (54); later, immediately prior to Matilda
s secret being revealed, Ambrosio says thus: To give up your society would be to deprive myself of the
greatest pleasure of my life (58). But immediately after it is revealed that Rosario is actually a young
woman, Ambrosio is rendered speechless, seemingly awaiting the decision of a judge (59).
There is an immediate pronoun change that occurs when Matilda s identity is revealed. Lewis seems to
suggest that the reader should still refer to the youth as a boy with the pronoun he and

Software Project Teams. The authors cite that team building is critical in overcoming time challenges
and resource coordination. Additionally, owing to the characteristics of diverse software development
projects being unstructured and sophisticated, it is significant to implement teamwork within such
endeavors (He, Brian and William, 2010). Various software developments require the implementation
of dissimilar amounts of knowledge. This deems the implementation of an individual s knowledge
appears to be insufficient in the accomplishment of such objectives.
The authors of the article consider a team to be an association of two or more individuals working
together towards the achievement of a set objective. The authors highlight the power of team cognition
in envisaging the likelihood of team effectiveness. However, studying team cognition has been marred
significantly by conceptualizing and determining its constructs (He, Brian and William, 2010). Team
cognition study is complex, owing to the diversity of the tasks and the involved environmental factors.
As such, two aspects of team cognition include awareness of expertise location and shared task
understandings are critical. Individuals within a team ought to be conscious of the members
capabilities and clearly comprehend their various tasks in accomplishing set objectives.

notification, the store orders a re supply at the closest Procter and Gamble factory. The product is then
transported straight to the branch of the store that separates the product to go to each receiving store.
The current plan of operation between this receiving store and Proctor and Gamble creates better

The Power Of Dracul Dracula And Dracula
how Van Helsing is still Dracula s antagonist and becomes the leader of a group to destroy Dracula for
loved ones and humanity. Although, in the movie such as Twilight and the Underworld trilogy, the
common enemy for vampires were werewolves. In the movies, they were enemies or rivalries to see
who was better, but at the end of each movie the enemies came together to fight another enemy such
as another group of vampires or humans. Then they won the fights together, and stayed allies but

Odysseus Justification Of The Suitors In Homer s Odyssey
In The Suitors Odysseus comes back from his journey to find an abundance of suitors in his home
trying to take his wife who has been continuously loyal through the 10 years he was away. Shortly
after Odysseus returns, Penelope retrieves his bow out of the storeroom and reports that she will wed
the suitor who can string it and afterward shoot an arrow through a line of twelve axes. All of the
suitors fail to do and then Odysseus with ease, strings the bow and sends an arrow and completes the
task , shooting the arrow through all twelve axes. Odysseus then grabs another arrow and proceeds to
shoot a second arrow through the throat of Antinous, and the killing of the suitors commenced.
Odysseus actions were justified because all of the suitors got what they deserved trying to take his

If The Political Party Development Act Of The Philippines
If the Political Party Development Act of the Philippines is adopted into a law, it could follow the
footstep of the British Political Parties, Elections, and Referendums Act of 2001 that established rules
on party financing to restore public confidence in the parties. Much as the proposed political party
development bill in the Philippines, the British version has the goal of ensuring reasonable party
financing operations, limiting donations from inappropriate sources, and contributing to equality of
opportunity for the various parties to participate in the election. This new Act took 5 years in its

They also thought it was unnecessary to submit a regular nil return donation reports even when they
rarely received a large amount of denotation. Large parties, on the other hand, complain about high
demands placed on them by the accounting and auditing requirements of the Act. From the perspective
of donors, they questioned that the definition of donation may be too broad given that commercial

definition of donation may be deterring them from working with political parties.
The United Kingdom actually has 240 registered political parties in Great Britain and Northern Ireland

may comprise only of two people registered as party officers because they simply seek to gain
publicity and promote their organization or brand without really having the intention to contest
elections. The Philippines should learn from this experience and must impose more stringent
requirements related to registration as a political party or its ideology and reasons for contesting
elections. The UK experience actually shows how the country fails to strengthen and institutionalize
its political party system because anyone can register as political parties, which means it encourages
the emergence of weak and unorganized parties. However, the

A Trot of Negligence
A tort of negligence is a breach of duty or failure of one party to commit to the standard of care
required by law, resulting in damage to the party whom the duty was owed. Annie would have an
action in negligence claiming compensatory damages for personal injury suffered as a result of Brett s
negligence. Annie s personal harm, involving a fractured back was directly related to Brett s careless
behavior of not cleaning up the alleged mess. The plaintiff Annie, has the burden of proof, and would
need to prove that the defendant, Brett owed her a duty of care, and was carless in failing to do as a
reasonable person would have done, resulting in the damages suffered by the plaintiff. The elements
must be proven on the balance of probabilities.
Duty of Care
According to the case Donoghue v. Stevenson [1932] AC 562 the duty of care states that the
reasonable foreseeability test is sufficient to establish a duty of care where the damage is physical and
careless manner is an act or an omission. There is a high risk of serious physical damage from the
slippery mess not being cleaned up. Brett was the manager at the Tavern and owed every party goer,
including Annie a duty of care. The physical damage that the plaintiff suffered was a fractured back.
This test must be executed to determine whether a duty of care exists and looks to the foreseeability of
a reasonable person in the position of the defendant. According to Blyth v. Birmingham Waterworks
Co (1856) 11 Exch 781 a

Inclusive Education Summary
Summary
Inclusive education is about providing the best possible learning environment for students with
disabilities. The purpose of the article was to determine the disposition, skills, and knowledge of both
general and special education teachers as well as the school environment. The research suggests that
teachers must have open mindedness and be self aware when they teach in an inclusive classroom.
Many teachers provided answers that suggest that they understand the need and have the willingness
but lack the skills and knowledge while some simply lack the needed disposition to work with
children with disabilities. As a result, we can see that there is a need to further develop teacher s
professional skills as well as developing the emotional fortitude that is required to be effective at
teaching in a inclusive classroom. Literature Review Inclusive education is defined as an appropriate
learning environment for students with disabilities while in the general education (Lamar Dukes and
Dukes 2005). We have seen more and more students with disabilities being placed in inclusive
environments around the U.S and abroad (Cramer and Nevin 2006; Etscheldt 2006; Lindsay 2007; US
Department of Education 2007). Because of this integration of diverse student populations there is a
need to have more welcoming school environments, appropriate resources both in and outside the
classroom, and qualified professionals willing and able to meet the needs of

I thought there was not as much paper work that went with being an RA. Also, that depending on what

act the same throughout each resident hall however, that s not the case. I learned from Katelynn that
when she worked in Oaks that the residents seemed to be needier compared to her current residents in
Pines. Also, the residents in oaks seemed to be closer and there would be more of a relationship with
them. My preconceptions were all answered and I found all the answers very informative. During the
interview, I found majority of the information very helpful but some of it was surprising. The
information I found surprising was how different it could be in different buildings. Also, how being an
RA is more than just working with their hall. I found out that the RA s should do desk hours and help
other RA s during room conflicts. The RA s help each other during difficult parts of the job and this
shows how leaders need to work together for a common purpose. Overall this interview has helped me
realize what will be the difficult part with the job and some of the perks. I learned many things about
being a leader and what to expect with being an RA. Being a leader has a lot of responsibility but there

Twiggy set the standard for 90 s top models to earn outrageous sums of money. For example, the 90 s
Twiggy (Kate Moss) earns about 26.3 million dollars a year.
One reason for Twiggy s great success was that the public had never seen anyone like her. She had a
completely new look that took the entire world by surprise. During the 40 s, long limbed, and
sophisticated was the trend. In the 50 s, a more curvaceous womanly look (Marilyn Monroe) was in.
Twiggy set the 60 s waiflike standard. What a leap from Marilyn to Twiggy. They were almost
completely opposite. Twiggy s influence is still seen on today s runways and television.
The current day Twiggy is Kate Moss. Her figure is strikingly similar (Twiggy 31 22 32, Moss 33 22

fudge, she doesn t drink or smoke but quot;eats like a horse quot; (Time). Twiggy is

Literary Analysis of A White Heron
Literature Analysis Part 1 Throughout the history Fiction has been used by many writers to emphasize
on environment and the importance it has in our lives. A White Heron , is a great example of how an
article can effectively grip the attention of the reader and delivering a vital message at the same time.
On the other hand fact based articles are based on truth, research and years of hard work but
unfortunately most of the time they fail to capture the common reader proving interesting to only
subject area experts or environmentalists. A White Heron written in 1886 is about a girl who comes to
her grandmother s house in the country side she falls in love with the nature and after some time
adjusts in the new surroundings. Being familiarized with the surroundings, a hunter offers her a
considerable reward for finding a Heron for his personal collection. Being human she agrees to find
the bird and accompanies the hunter but fails to find the heron. Later on she goes alone and finds the
bird s nest by climbing on the tallest tree, this in turn reignites her love and passion for the nature and
the thought of helping the hunter and killing of the Heron becomes cynical. She keeps it a secret and
Hunter goes back without his prize. (Jewett, 2009) On the other hand Reducing, harmful, drilling and
mining is an article that emphasizes on the use of coal in fulfilling our energy needs and the impact
coal drilling and mining has on the environment of the surrounding areas. It

Market Entry Modes
International market entry modes allow firms to enter foreign markets and can choose the most
appropriate entry mode for their industry. After analysing market drivers, demand and consumer
behaviour, Pharmaceutical firms may choose the most strategic mode of entry to enter a market. The
market entry mode is strategic and is regarded as a major factor in the Internationalisation process
(Morschett et al.,2015, p.323). As illustrated below, the International market entry model outlines that
Pharmaceutical firms may enter foreign markets through Exports/Imports, Subsidiaries,
Mergers/Acquisitions, Joint ventures, or Licensing.
Figure 2.4 An international market entry model for pharmaceutical companies. (Adapted from Javalgi
Wright,2003, p.277).
Joint Venture
A joint venture is characterised by the need to achieve a business transaction while remaining separate
from each other. Each firm maintains its resources and independence while engaging in an activity,
with the objective of achieving certain objectives. The need for joint ventures in the Pharmaceutical
industry may be characterised by the need to reduce high R D costs and by so doing, share costs
through common equity (Roijakkers Hagedoon,2005, p.8). Joint venture as a mode of market entry

In process licensing, a firm gives the licensee the right to use production processes. This type of
licensing may be common in the Pharmaceutical industry, regarding patented drugs/products. Product
licensing allows a firm to grant specific rights in the manufacture of products, while distribution
licensing gives the licensee the ability to market and distribute products in an area. Brand licensing
allows a firm to use a firm s brand. Licensing enables the licensor to benefit from the skills,
comparative advantage, and other capacities of the licensee (Morschett et al., 2015,

Manifest Destiny In Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House On...
The level of entitlement involved in Manifest Destiny might be considered childish when boiled down
to the brass ideas around why the Americans of the nineteenth century felt promised to connect The
east coast to the west coast, but the way in which Wilder shows this infant demand for the entire
continent seems almost puritan in nature. Through the innocent perspectives of Laura and her siblings,
the reader of Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House on the Prairie, is presented with an edited first hand
response to the dogmatism of manifest destiny by means of overcoming every obstacle ever so
seamlessly and the confusion of why they are allowed to just settle the west under new ownership.
This concept of the promised people, the American people, being blessed with God s grace of
overcoming the odds of settling in this harsh environment is basically a predetermined mentality of
inevitability set forth by the puritans that are the backbone of the society in the novel. This entire
attitude can be outlined in the catch phrase of the entire novel: All s well that ends well, (Ingalls 24). It
doesn t matter if it s a flash flood, a pack of wolves, carbon monoxide, native americans or even
wildfires, for the Ingalls, representing the western American settler culture as an ideal whole, the odds
are in their favor, despite the harsh reality of the indifferent environment. They might be afraid in the
moments that decide if they flourish or perish, but the family as a whole is never

A Christmas Carol
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this extract we are presented with Scrooge. From the
beginning Scrooge is presented as a miser. In the extract we find out that he is an old, rude and
ignorant man that doesn t appreciate others around him. Dickens uses different language techniques to
describe Scrooges appearance as clear as possible. In the opening paragraph Dickens uses imagery to
create a vivid impression of Scrooge. He is described as a tight fisted hand at the grind stone , and this
metaphor suggests that Scrooge works hard for his money but is very tight with his money. In the
opening lines Dickens includes similes. Hard and sharp as a flint. Flint is a hard stone that was used
with iron to create sparks before people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickens has used verbs used as adjectives when describing Scrooge such as stiffened his gait . The
effect of these words makes the reader focus on it more and because it s a long list the reader gets a
clear definition of what Scrooge looks like. The adjectives that Dickens uses aren t describing him as
being a nice person, from these adjectives you can tell that he is an old and miserable character.
Dickens focuses on temperature, when doing this he emphasises how cold hearted Scrooge really is.
No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could cool him. This shows the reader that Scrooge is as
cold as he could ever be and nothing can change him. Dickens also uses a pathetic fallacy, he uses the
weather to describe Scrooges character. The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of
the advantage over him in only one respect. Dickens uses the harshest weather to describe him,
showing the reader how horrible of a man Scrooge is, using a pathetic fallacy clearly shows the reader
how important Scrooges personality is throughout the book. From this extract the reader knows that
Scrooge is a negative character. Straight away we know that he has a negative impact on others.
Nobody ever stopped him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, My dear Scrooge, how are you?
This dialogue never actually happened, this shows that the other characters in the book are too afraid

Femme False Body
The fragmented femme fatale body that is, the isolated parts of the mysterious and threatening female
body is a pervasive element of Antigone by Sophocles and Antigona Furiosa by Griselda Gambaro. In
fact, from a symbolic point of view, almost every scene contains a detailed aspect of the femme fatale
body some enigmatic, others clear cut that serves to strengthen the meaning of the political and social
issues Sophocles and Gambaro raise. Sophocles, a prominent Greek tragedian, wrote plays that
demand an exploratory inquiry of the ways characters speak and the distinct expressiveness of their
individual idiosyncrasies and, significantly, feelings (Bowra 385). Equally important, Gambaro is an
Argentinian writer, either admired or deeply disliked, as a result of her radical decision to place the
femme fatale body on the Argentinian stage and recover bodies and memorialize them (Pottlitzer 103).

In this way, because Sophocles version of the femme fatale s tragic demise is rather bleak and,
perhaps, overlooked, Gambaro s innovative revision and bold portrait of the femme fatale, whether
she is seriously wounded or uncontrollably angry, suggests that the corporeality of the twentieth
century femme fatale testifies to the vitality and imaginative freedom with which patriarchs, such as
Creon, associate womanhood with the otherworldly of character. This essay primarily engages in a
contextualization of Sophocles femme fatale and Gambaro s femme fatale by analyzing the symbolic
function of the femme fatales and, importantly, their body

Analysis Of The Minister s Black Veil
In this well known American Romanticism story, The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne,
we encounter a bizarre character who is our protagonist What American Romanticism was is that it
was a movement in the arts and literature that originated in the late 18th century, emphasizing
inspiration, subjectivity, and the primacy of the individual. Mr. Hooper was the protagonist and
minister who have decided to pay penance by wearing a long black veil over his head for the rest of
his days. He was judged and criticised by his own parishioners for his black veil as rumors about sin
and adultery were going around the town. This was a serious issue that even results in his ex fiancee

Hooper has suffered a great deal for the remainder of his life. Although the minister never explained
why he wore it, there was much speculation as to why he did. Adultery, disloyalty, addiction, and
alcoholism were just some speculations as to the secret sin he was paying penance for. The black veil
has power over Mr. Hooper because he chose to conceal his sin rather than show his fiancee before he
lost her. This also tells us that Mr. Hooper is a man of his word because even on his deathbed, the
black veil remained on his face. The black veil was a penance to Mr. Hooper because he wore it to
show his secret sin and that he acknowledged it rather than discarding it like most of the parishioners
did. This united him with the lower class and criminals because they felt like minister harper was on
their side because it sowed his imperfections. Yet at the same time, the close bond he had with his
parishes was basically lost. The black veil also gave this eerie aura to Mr. Hooper and it made his
sermons more powerful to the parishioners who took all his sermons to heart. To the parishioners, the
black veil was seen as a dark item that made them change their whole perspective on someone they

Why Lying Is A Common Behavior
Reasons for lying Lying is a common behavior in today s society. But ever since we were young we
were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that lying
was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are
cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white lie which states that you are telling a lie
to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote
Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places
because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who
runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their
lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are
basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see
lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they
might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is
receiving the lie.
Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger
mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one feel
as if they can t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they

Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment For Wheat Industry
Agricultural Climate Impact Assessment for Wheat Industry in Western Australia
Sonam Gyeltshen
Student ID: 551839
Rationale
Wheat is an important cereal crop of Western Australia with about 7 MT of production in a rain fed
system across 4 Million hectares of land, and accounting for about 70% of total cereal production.
However, it is believed that wheat production is affected by changes in climatic variables of rainfall,
temperature, and other extreme weather events. Therefore, the assessment of impact of climate change
is essential generally to understand the overall risk of climate change to bio physical and socio
economic systems, but specifically to understand the impact of climate change on wheat production,
and eventually develop proper adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Introduction
Climate impact assessment is an important exercise in order to systematically understand the risk of
climate change to bio physical and socio economic systems and thereby to develop proper and timely
adaptation and mitigation strategies. Similarly, IPCC defines Climate impact assessment as an
assessment of climate change impacts on an inclusive, unbiased, open and apparent basis the
scientific, technical, and socio economic relevant to understanding the risk of human induced climate
change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation (Kerr, Siddique, Delane,
1992).
Various methods of assessing the climate change impacts have been deployed since the

Examples Of Satire In Catch 22
The Enactment of Satire in Catch 22
Catch 22 is a fictional novel created to be an aberration from war novels. Laughing in the face of war
and death, literally, is one of the things that make the novel Catch 22 and makes it a notable satirists
novel, an original story. It was written in 1961,during the the second World War, when all war novels
were written with a dark and dreary tone, while also trying to continue the pre conceived romantic
notions about war. Joseph Heller strips away all of the romantic pretense, and pulling heavily on his
own Air Force experience during WWII, presents war in its most raw, un censored version. He takes
away the PG 13 version of war and presents the true paradoxes that arise, and shows the violence of

Aggression is an indirect or direct attack on an issue in society pertaining to an individual or as
situation. It is displayed in the form of humor mixed with play to create paradoxical situations in the
book. For instance, the scene in which Aardvark rapes and kills a woman in chapter 39: I only raped
her once explained Aarfy. I had to do that after I raped her (Heller 418). Heller strategically creates
Aarfy to be a dispassionate individual. He shows no compassion or discomfort when discussing the
murder he just committed. He justifies his actions through selfish means. When Yossarian confronted
Aarfy about his actions his reaction is incongruent with the abomination that he just committed. Any
normal human being would have shown remorse for the life that was just lost, not Aarfy. By utilizing
aggression Heller is able to highlight the loss of sanity within characters such as Aarfy. His mind has
been desensitized to death and he no longer fears taking an innocent civilian s life because he has
distanced himself from pain and any emotional realm. This satirical example of aggression also shows
the flaws in law enforcement. When Yossarian expresses his anger towards Aarfy and warns him about
the fate that awaits him. Aarfy assures him that he will not get in trouble. Yossarian is acting as a
cautionary prophet in this piece. However, the snarling twist is when Yossarian is the one who is

I Am My Graduate Career
When I began my undergraduate career, I had no inkling of what I wanted to do in the future. It was
early on that I discovered my passion for chemistry, math and physics classes which galvanized my
hunger for knowledge. In due time, I developed a proclivity for research that was stirred largely by my
first mentor, Dr. Daniel Lambrecht, during an American Chemical Society meeting. I was so
engrossed in his research on nanocatalysis and piezoelectrics that I walked up to him as soon as the
meeting ended and immediately made clear of my interest to join his group.
I left my undergraduate career conflicted about whether to pursue a degree in chemistry or chemical
engineering. Through a combination of independent research, advice from mentors, and on the job
industrial experience, I have realized that my interests align more with chemical engineering. The
broad range of career paths and opportunities for technological innovation draws me to the field of
engineering. With chemical, physical, and mathematical concepts as well as industrial know how,
engineers transform ideas into useful and attainable products that impact the lives of many.
My experiences during my undergraduate and professional careers have had profound impacts on me
by providing opportunities for self discovery and allowing me to explore my interests. At the
University of Pittsburgh Chemical Engineering Ph.D. program, I hope to explore my interests in

How Does Cesium 137 Change In The Environment
Chemical elements can exist in different types which are called isotopes. Isotopes have protons,
electrons and neutrons. Isotopes have the same number of protons and neutrons but different number
of neutrons. There are many forms of isotopes such as radioactive isotopes. A radioactive isotope can
be artificially created and naturally created, radioactive isotopes are chemical elements having an
unstable nucleus which decays. Alpha, beta or gamma rays are emitted until the isotope is stable.
Stable form of an isotope is nonradioactive. In the 1930s Glenn T.Seaborg and his coworker original
discovered the radioactive isotope Cesium 137. Isotopes may or may not be radioactive, Cesium 137

Devices containing Cesium 137 can sometimes be sold for scrap metal, if this scrap metal finds it way
to a steel or metal mill and is melted the metal can have a major im[act on the environment, these

change in the environment? When Cesium 137 comes in contact with the environment it will decay
with division of beta particles and strong gamma radiation. When Cesium 137 decays it will go to
Barium 137 which is a shot lived product which in turn decays to become a nonradioactive isotope
called barium. Cesium moves easily through the environment which makes the clean up of Cesium
137 very difficult. What happens to it in the body? When Cesium is taken into the body of a human, it
is either done by eating food, drinking water or breathing air. As soon as the Cesium is ingested into
the body it has a similar attribute as potassium, it will distribute through the body at a rapid rate. When
the stomach and intestines absorb water and food is the primary source of distribution of Cesium,
which means all Cesium that is ingested within the body does find its way into the blood stream,

Analysis Of The Poem The Odyssey
Penelope is identified by relatively few epithets within the last six books of the Odyssey, and indeed,
throughout the poem. Her most common epithet is circumspect, although she is also referred to as the
respected wife of Odysseus and the daughter of Ikarios with relative frequency as well. It is not until
the end of the poem, specifically Book Twenty Four, that Penelope gains a broader spectrum of
identifying epithets, including blameless and prudent (Homer, Odyssey 24.194, 198). Her
identification as circumspect is important to the overall theme of νόστος (homecoming) in the
Odyssey. In addition, the manner in which she is described within the poem stays relatively stable
until the last two books, wherein Penelope gains greater depth as a female character when she is
reunited with her husband. Penelope, like most women, is identified through her male relatives, in this
case through her husband Odysseus and her father Ikarios. This is not an uncommon style of epithets,
even amongst the suitors. This is therefore not meant to diminish her role as regent of Ithaka while
Odysseus is away at war. However, it should be noted that Penelope feels that her identity is
controlled entirely by Odysseus (Homer, Od. 18.251 255). Despite this, Penelope is very much her
own independent character, as is shown by her adept ability at stalling the suitors and ruling as regent
over Ithaka for the duration of Odysseus absence.
The most common epithet of Penelope is

They are readily available to respond and give first aid duties to the sick and injured people.
Paramedics are not only good in medical situations; they are also trained to minimize commotion and
accidents like fires and domestic abuse in the society.
Helping other Medical Professionals
Generally, the role of every paramedic is to provide care to the sick and injured outside the hospitals.
However, their roles are limited since most serious emergency situations require immediate hospital
care. When serious situations come, the role of paramedics is to assist doctors and nurses by giving
them pertinent assessment data.
Charity Service
The responsibility of paramedics does not apply during emergency cases alone. They are also known
to provide humanitarian service to needy people. Paramedics coordinate to other medical professionals
to conduct several medical missions to help people who can t afford medical care. They are also

2016 Voter Turnout
Overall, the 2016 voter turnout was lower than ever before. The United States is a country that has
some of the lowest voter turnouts in history, and unlike Australia, the USA doesn t make voting
mandatory. About 48 to 57% of citizens normally participate in the presidential election voting but in
2016 many American s decided to opt out lowering the voter turnout to a mere 55% of the American
population. When American s didn t vote that decision most likely came due to the fact that Donald
Trump and Hillary Clinton were both two of the most disliked presidential candidates in the past 30
years. We are also aware that presidential elections are more competitive in some states, and
Republicans didn t seem to vote as much as people in swing

Compare The Allegory Of The Cave And Fahrenheit 451
Fahrenheit 451 and The Allegory of the Cave relate in the sense that society is ignorant and fears
facing reality. In both, the discovery of something unknown or unfamiliar changes the characters
views on the world, especially after being exposed to something so different to what you have spent
your whole life knowing. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, a man whose job as a fireman was to rid of
books by setting them on fire, met a young girl named Clarisse, who talked to him about the time
when firemen put out fires instead of starting them, and read and wrote books instead of trying to
eliminate all of them. When Montag learned this, he became rather curious and began collecting books
and hiding them in his home to read and try to discover the meanings books held. He found that the
reason society feared it so much was because the books writing could trigger negative emotions like
sadness. Still, he wanted to show society that there is nothing wrong with that, and that books need to
be brought back. Doing this meant putting his reputation in jeopardy, but having begun to see how
ignorant society was, he couldn t sit and pretend to be happy with it. Society was trying so hard to
create a utopia and avoid facing reality that they didn t stop to see how much of the world they were
missing out on. Montag took action, and though it wasn t the best decision, it still shows that when
you are shown light after being in the dark all your life, you might find yourself wanting to look

House Of The Red Fish Analysis
Do you find it hard to when looking for the similarities and differences of an object. Well you can use
the Double Bubble Map method to compare two subjects, there are three sides. The similarities, and
the different things about the subjects. In this case, the subjects were Tomi and Keet, the main
characters of House of The Red Fish . One of the many differences between Tomi and Keet is that
Tomi is determined to get his father s fishing sampan to the surface, but Keet is adamant about
keeping it at the bottom of the canal where it lays. The Double Bubble Map is convenient because it
keeps your notes organized, you can also virtually compare any two things, and lastly it s a fun
different way to taking dull notes. Firstly, this strategy is convenient because of how organized it is.
Even though there are a jumble of circles and words, the adjacent lines connecting one circle to the
next keep the space tidy and easy to find. In addition, when comparing Tomi and Keet, there are many
differences, but just as many similarities between the two. Using the Double Bubble method, you can
easily decipher the things they have in common, and the things that contrast. For example, both
characters share the trait of being stubborn, because Tomi will not give up raising his father s sampan,
the Taiyo Maru, but Keet on the other hand will do anything to keep the sampan on the ocean floor. ...

You could compare dogs to cats, or sharks to lions. There is an endless array of things to compare and
contrast, and you will always find differences and similarities. Like Tomi, he is Japanese and
considered a traitor, but Keet is white and acts as though he is superior to Tomi because of his race. Or
you could compare Oiji Chan to Mr. Wilson. Oiji Chan is a Japanese immigrant and was taken to a
makeshift camp on Sand Island. Mr.Wilson is a BMTC Officer and is an American

Beryl Markham s West With The Night
West with the Night is an autobiography by Beryl Markham, who is a pilot is Africa. In her book she
juxtaposes Africa and London and then extends that juxtaposition to stand for the universal feelings of
boredom and freedom. She chooses events from her job that highlight the difference between Africa
and London to characterize herself as exotic and unique. She opens this excerpt by telling the story of
transporting life saving oxygen to a dying old man. By choosing to reveal to us important and
dangerous events from her job she reveals that she thinks of herself as adventurous, out of the box,
and a hero.
In the beginning of this excerpt she compares her life in Africa where she claims she was unable to
discuss the boredom of being alive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We know from her description of London that she abhors being bored and she suggests that boredom
is tied to loneliness in her description of her life in Africa. In spite of this she confesses that Night
flying over charted country by aid of instruments and radio guidance can still be a lonely business, but
to fly in unbroken darkness without even the cold companionship of a pair of earphones or the
knowledge that somewhere ahead are lights and life and a well marked airport is something more than
just lonely. The experience of that something that is more than just lonely appears to be the thing that
she dislikes most about her job but she doesn t hesitate to night fly if someone should require her
assistance. She doesn t give any mind to the physical danger that is a part of flying an airplane at night
instead her only concern is whether or not she will be bored. Clearly for Markham her greatest fear is
not death but it is the experience of being under stimulated. It is clear from her description of her job
that countless times she has gone up into that airplane anyways and faced her worst fear. In doing so
Markham shows herself to be someone who is willing to sacrifice herself to help someone

Piaget concluded that the four year olds thinking was egocentric, as the seven year olds was not. Children, at this stage, do not understand more complex concepts such as cause and effect, time, and comparison. The third stage is the Concrete Operational Stage, which occurs around age seven to age eleven. This stage marks the beginning of logical or operational thoughts for the child. A White Heron , is a great example of how an article can effectively grip the attention of the reader and delivering a vital message at the same time. On the other hand fact based articles are based on truth, research and years of hard work but unfortunately most of the time they fail to capture the common reader proving interesting to only subject area experts or environmentalists. A White Heron written in 1886 is about a girl who comes to her grandmother s house in the country side she falls in love with the nature and after some time adjusts in the new surroundings. Being familiarized with the surroundings, a hunter offers her a considerable reward for finding a Heron for his personal collection. Being human she agrees to find the bird and accompanies the hunter but fails to find the heron. Later on she goes alone and finds the bird s nest by climbing on the tallest tree, this in turn reignites her love and passion for the nature and the thought of helping the hunter and killing of the Heron becomes cynical. She keeps it a secret and Hunter goes back without his prize. After analysing market drivers, demand and consumer behaviour, Pharmaceutical firms may choose the most strategic mode of entry to enter a market. The market entry mode is strategic and is regarded as a major factor in the Internationalisation process (Morschett et al.,2015, p.323). • 25. Manifest Destiny In Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House On... The level of entitlement involved in Manifest Destiny might be considered childish when boiled down to the brass ideas around why the Americans of the nineteenth century felt promised to connect The east coast to the west coast, but the way in which Wilder shows this infant demand for the entire continent seems almost puritan in nature. Through the innocent perspectives of Laura and her siblings, the reader of Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House on the Prairie, is presented with an edited first hand response to the dogmatism of manifest destiny by means of overcoming every obstacle ever so seamlessly and the confusion of why they are allowed to just settle the west under new ownership. This concept of the promised people, the American people, being blessed with God s grace of overcoming the odds of settling in this harsh environment is basically a predetermined mentality of inevitability set forth by the puritans that are the backbone of the society in the novel. This entire attitude can be outlined in the catch phrase of the entire novel: All s well that ends well, (Ingalls 24). It doesn t matter if it s a flash flood, a pack of wolves, carbon monoxide, native americans or even wildfires, for the Ingalls, representing the western American settler culture as an ideal whole, the odds are in their favor, despite the harsh reality of the indifferent environment. In the extract we find out that he is an old, rude and ignorant man that doesn t appreciate others around him. Dickens uses different language techniques to describe Scrooges appearance as clear as possible. In the opening paragraph Dickens uses imagery to create a vivid impression of Scrooge. He is described as a tight fisted hand at the grind stone , and this metaphor suggests that Scrooge works hard for his money but is very tight with his money. Dickens has used verbs used as adjectives when describing Scrooge such as stiffened his gait . The effect of these words makes the reader focus on it more and because it s a long list the reader gets a clear definition of what Scrooge looks like. The adjectives that Dickens uses aren t describing him as being a nice person, from these adjectives you can tell that he is an old and miserable character. Dickens focuses on temperature, when doing this he emphasises how cold hearted Scrooge really is. No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could cool him. This shows the reader that Scrooge is as cold as he could ever be and nothing can change him. Dickens also uses a pathetic fallacy, he uses the weather to describe Scrooges character. The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect. Dickens uses the harshest weather to describe him, showing the reader how horrible of a man Scrooge is, using a pathetic fallacy clearly shows the reader how important Scrooges personality is throughout the book. From this extract the reader knows that Scrooge is a negative character. Straight away we know that he has a negative impact on others. Femme False Body The fragmented femme fatale body that is, the isolated parts of the mysterious and threatening female body is a pervasive element of Antigone by Sophocles and Antigona Furiosa by Griselda Gambaro. In fact, from a symbolic point of view, almost every scene contains a detailed aspect of the femme fatale body some enigmatic, others clear cut that serves to strengthen the meaning of the political and social issues Sophocles and Gambaro raise. Sophocles, a prominent Greek tragedian, wrote plays that demand an exploratory inquiry of the ways characters speak and the distinct expressiveness of their individual idiosyncrasies and, significantly, feelings (Bowra 385). Equally important, Gambaro is an Argentinian writer, either admired or deeply disliked, as a result of her radical decision to place the femme fatale body on the Argentinian stage and recover bodies and memorialize them (Pottlitzer 103). ... The black veil has power over Mr. Hooper because he chose to conceal his sin rather than show his fiancee before he lost her. This also tells us that Mr. Hooper is a man of his word because even on his deathbed, the black veil remained on his face. The black veil was a penance to Mr. Hooper because he wore it to show his secret sin and that he acknowledged it rather than discarding it like most of the parishioners did. This united him with the lower class and criminals because they felt like minister harper was on their side because it sowed his imperfections. But ever since we were young we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white lie which states that you are telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie. However, it is believed that wheat production is affected by changes in climatic variables of rainfall, temperature, and other extreme weather events. Therefore, the assessment of impact of climate change is essential generally to understand the overall risk of climate change to bio physical and socio economic systems, but specifically to understand the impact of climate change on wheat production, and eventually develop proper adaptation and mitigation strategies. Introduction Climate impact assessment is an important exercise in order to systematically understand the risk of climate change to bio physical and socio economic systems and thereby to develop proper and timely adaptation and mitigation strategies. Similarly, IPCC defines Climate impact assessment as an assessment of climate change impacts on an inclusive, unbiased, open and apparent basis the scientific, technical, and socio economic relevant to understanding the risk of human induced climate change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation (Kerr, Siddique, Delane, 1992). For instance, the scene in which Aardvark rapes and kills a woman in chapter 39: I only raped her once explained Aarfy. I had to do that after I raped her (Heller 418). Heller strategically creates Aarfy to be a dispassionate individual. He shows no compassion or discomfort when discussing the murder he just committed. He justifies his actions through selfish means. When Yossarian confronted Aarfy about his actions his reaction is incongruent with the abomination that he just committed. Any normal human being would have shown remorse for the life that was just lost, not Aarfy. By utilizing aggression Heller is able to highlight the loss of sanity within characters such as Aarfy. His mind has been desensitized to death and he no longer fears taking an innocent civilian s life because he has distanced himself from pain and any emotional realm. Her most common epithet is circumspect, although she is also referred to as the respected wife of Odysseus and the daughter of Ikarios with relative frequency as well. It is not until the end of the poem, specifically Book Twenty Four, that Penelope gains a broader spectrum of identifying epithets, including blameless and prudent (Homer, Odyssey 24.194, 198). Her identification as circumspect is important to the overall theme of νόστος (homecoming) in the Odyssey. In addition, the manner in which she is described within the poem stays relatively stable until the last two books, wherein Penelope gains greater depth as a female character when she is reunited with her husband. Penelope, like most women, is identified through her male relatives, in this case through her husband Odysseus and her father Ikarios. This is not an uncommon style of epithets, even amongst the suitors. This is therefore not meant to diminish her role as regent of Ithaka while Odysseus is away at war. However, it should be noted that Penelope feels that her identity is controlled entirely by Odysseus (Homer, Od. 18.251 255). In both, the discovery of something unknown or unfamiliar changes the characters views on the world, especially after being exposed to something so different to what you have spent your whole life knowing. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, a man whose job as a fireman was to rid of books by setting them on fire, met a young girl named Clarisse, who talked to him about the time when firemen put out fires instead of starting them, and read and wrote books instead of trying to eliminate all of them. When Montag learned this, he became rather curious and began collecting books and hiding them in his home to read and try to discover the meanings books held. He found that the reason society feared it so much was because the books writing could trigger negative emotions like sadness.
