Why It Is Important To Become An Organ Donor
Organ donation: a person with healthy organs and tissues allows for them to be transplanted to those
in need, usually after death. Being an organ donor can be as simple as filling out an information card
on the back of your driver s license. It is easy to do and is a very selfless and caring thing to commit
to. Organ donation is a simple, yet amazing act.
Every day, people in need of vital organs die due to lung failure, heart failure, liver failure, kidney
failure, and other illnesses. In fact, over 120,000 people in the United States are in need of vital organ
transplants. Every day twenty two people on that list die. Every ten minutes, another person is added
to the list. Each year there are more than one million people waiting for life improving tissues and
eyes.
These are not just numbers; they are people who are waiting to receive what is basically life or death.
This sounds like a very large amount of people, but there is hope. A single ... Show more content on

The cause of death is actually what determines if organ donation is an option. Most people who
actually become organ donors suffer fatal head injuries, either from something like a car accident or a
brain aneurysm or stroke. After the person is admitted to the hospital, if nothing else can be done to
save him or her, organ donation is finally brought into the picture. After death has occurred an
examination of the potential donor s physical and historical status is conducted. In this examination, a
physician examines the current physical state of the potential donor. For example, if the individual s
cause of death damaged certain organs, then those organs would be ruled out. The medical history of
the potential donor is also examined. For example, the individual being a smoker would determine
them ineligible. If everything checks out the potential recipients are examined to determine if the
operation can be

The Conflict Of Syrian Refugees, Hosting Countries And...
What do you want to be when you grow up? is the question that many children answer with
aspirations of hope and achievement. For 11 year old Hamsa the answer was a doctor but instead
living out his dream, his reality is hearing that his school was bombed just before his arrival to a
refugee camp in Jordan (UNHCR). Hamsa and other children make up 3 quarters out of the 7.5
million Syrians that have been internally displaced or become refugees due to the country s current
conflict (Jones and Shaheen). Although we can never fully fathom the obstacles and position of loss
faced by so many Syrians, we can try to better understand one of the worst humanitarian disasters of
our time. By recognizing the damaging results of Syria s civil war creating we can try to understand
numerous challenges for Syrian refugees, hosting countries and international organizations trying to
aid the effort. Migration According to Stalker there are two theories of migration: individual, where
one weighs the options in a strategic way such as provide economic advance and structural, where one
is forced to move due political, economic or social situations beyond their control (23). Syrians fall
under the structural approach where factors of conflict, violence and human right abuses push them
away from their country. Through increased violence and lack of human security, forced migration has
left many to be refugees and or internally displaced persons (IDPs) (Castles and Miller 56). The

Harvey Henderson Quotes
The dark sky, filled with angry, swirling clouds, reflected Geoffrey Henderson s mood as he sat at the
table. His mother s voice came to him again lecturing him endlessly about his poor efforts in science.
Geoffrey had just recently turned sixteen and his mother had wanted him to mature and start focusing
on his studies. He sat in the small, pale green kitchen listening, knowing that the lecture would end
with his mother saying he couldn t play volleyball with the Patriots. He played on his high school
team. He had asked his mother the week before if he could continue playing, and she explicitly had
said that it depended on his next report card; it didn t go so well. He had been getting 80% in science.
And you want to play volleyball? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s for sure.
You really think that treasure of yours was worth fighting for? Geoffrey asked.
What else a man got cepting what he can pass on to his son, or his daughter, if she be his oldest? Vince
Reed said.
Vince Reed got up after patting his rags in place and looked out the window again.
Looks like they re gone. You get on out of here and get yourself home. I ll be watching from the
window so you ll be alright.
Vince Reed went down the stairs behind Geoffrey. When they reached the front door the old man
looked out first, saw the street was clear and told Geoffrey to scoot on home.
You sure you ll be OK? Geoffrey asked.
Now didn t I tell you I was going to east St. Louis in the morning? Vince Reed asked. Don t that sound
OK to you?
Sure it does, Geoffrey said. Sure it does. And you take care of that treasure of yours.
That I ll do, Vince said, the wrinkles around his eyes suggesting a smile. That I ll do.
Geoffrey didn t even want to think how late it was. He thought ahead of what his mother would say.
Geoffrey pushed the button and thought of the lecture he knew his mother would give him, and

Essay about History 11a
China is a country with a long history. Looking back in history, there are many virtuous personages.
After I read the Book of Odes and the Chronicles of Zuo, I found that both the official Zhongshan Fu
and the Zichan are outstanding people, who help their duck to make a better kingdom. In fact, they
shared some similar qualities. First, Both of Zhongshan Fu and Zichan were loyal. So, they could gain
the trust form the king, and they were entrusted with an important post. In the Song 260 from Book of
Odes, it says, Obedient to the Son of Heaven, Whose glorious commands he spreads abroad. Also,
from the king s command in Song 260, we know that the king let Zhongshan Fu to be the king s throat

In the Song 260 from the Book of Odes, it says, The king charged Zhongshan Fu to fortify the eastern
land. His four steeds so fine, the eight harness bells chiming. Zhongshan Fu went to QI and swift was
his return. Form this description, we can see that Zhongshan Fu s role was not making decision or
giving suggestion to the king, but executed the order form king. While on the contrary, Zichan was
skilled in making suggestion. From the Chronicles of Zuo, there are many stories tell us when the king
made bad or wrong decisions, Zichan always objected to the king and told him the reason. He was not
afraid that he king would be unhappy or even angry. For example, when the Zipi wished to grant
lordship of fief to Yin He, Zichan opposed Zipi s decision. He listed many reasons why Yin He couldn
t be in charged of his fief. Because of his wisdom and persuasion, finally Zipi agreed with his
suggestion, and trusted him more and more. Zichan was really a minded person. He always put
himself to the position of king to think problem, so that he could make a right decision, which is more
suitable than king s own decision. In fact, as a decision maker for a country, if not considered all
aspects or even make a small mistake, it would bring negative influence or even disaster to this
country. Secondly, Zhongshan Fu and Zichan had different relationship to the ruler. Zhongshan Fu was
just an official of Zhou, and obedient to the Son of Heaven.

Other functions include planning of strategic goals and making sure they come to fruition, controlling
budget, weighing effectiveness vs. efficiency, and dealing with employees, customers, and vendors. In
essence, there is no specific agenda that can be adhered to on a daily basis, as the environment of a
manager constantly changes. A customer fire drill could arise (Eshelman, 2011); a sudden change in
the organization, budgetary cuts, and so forth. A manager constantly has to be ready to change
direction and still produce results. A bulk of the daily work load is spent on managerial duties, such as
dealing with the problems at hand (Eshelman, 2011), making decisions, leading employees, and
ensuring a natural flow of projects and operations. Two of the most critical managerial issues Mr.
Eshelman describes are budgeting and employee relations. The company must have employees,
products, and other resources to run the business in a profitable manner. It is a manager s
responsibility to weigh the balance of effectiveness vs. efficiency and profit vs. loss on a constant
basis. When certain budgetary allocations change, the manager needs to find alternatives and put plans
into place to reduce cost but still maintain profitability and productivity. In Eshelman s opinion, the
three most important manager skills to possess are the ability to make impromptu decisions, have

The Endocrinology Of Male And Female Reproduction
Reproductive physiology is comprised of many tightly coordinated functions of the endocrine system
including the hypothalamus, pituitary and reproductive organs whose dynamic function plays several
critical roles in growth and development as well was reproduction. The hypothalamic pituitary
gonadal axis plays a critical role in the development and regulation of the reproductive system. These
tightly regulated functions within the pituitary must respond to continuously changing signals from the
central nervous system gonads and provide the quick responses. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal
axis is comprised of major hormones, including gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing
hormone (LH) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) and operate through both positive and
negative feedback loops in mammals.1 When toxicants affect any part of this axis s function, either by
altering cellular activity or the signals themselves, the physiology can impacted by immediate and
downstream effects. An understanding of the endocrinology of male and female reproduction, is
required to understand how toxicological effects can have severe consequences on reproductive
physiology.
GnRH is a prominent reproductive hormone that is produced in neural cells in the hypothalamus.
GnRH is secreted into the bloodstream where it is carried downstream to the pituitary gland and
activates the Gonadotropin Releasing hormone receptor. 2 Once these cells are activated, signal

Charter School Reform Case Study
While the sentiment behind venture philanthropy is morally and ethically sound, the growing degree
of power that philanthropists posses is largely unregulated and un scrutinized, which calls for a
reformation of the venture philanthropy sector.
Before venturing into the analyses of the case study Sponsor of Policy: A Network Analysis of
Wealthy Elites, Their Affiliated Philanthropies, and Charter School Reform in Washington State, it is
important to understand the case itself. The charter school reform movement in Washington state
began in 2012 with the passage of Initiative 1240. Initiative 1240 was the necessary legislation need to
legalize charter schools in Washington state. As of 2012, only nine US states did not allow charter
schools. Resultantly, Washington state needed a popular vote to pass. There were three previous votes
in opposition to charter schools with a vote in 1996, 2000, and 2004. After the 2004 vote, there was ...

donors attempt to appeal to the population by making a case for a grassroots movement. In actuality,
they are invoking an Astroturf movement that is fabricated to appeal to the public by appearing
unsolicited, autonomous, and community rooted without actually being so (Au Ferrer, 18). Individuals
do so by enacting material sponsorship through philanthropic foundations to gain the prestige
associated with their foundations philanthropic reputation. Similarly, their actions through their
nonprofit organizations appear to be more closely aligned with grassroots communities due to the

How Do New Technologies Face the Rapid Expansion of the...
The term data can be defined as numbers, characters, images or other method of recording, in a form
which can be assessed by a human or input into a computer (FOLDOC, 2007). It can be processed or
stored for posterior use. The stored data are called historical data which are collected and amassed for
potential future verification of events or as resources for further research. Two types of data storage
are presented: paper and electronic. The former way is very costly, difficult to manage and even
inefficient, especially when handling massive amounts of data, because it requires a constant human
resource personnel training and a long time to organize and audit the data. The solution resides in
using the electronic, or digital, data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the hosting companies provide backup and recovery systems to guarantee a high
availability of the stored data. For instance, hosting companies keep redundant data files at different
data centers in diverse regions to secure the stored data even after large scale natural catastrophe
(Wisegeek, 2014). Moreover, the resources, physically, may be extended over multiple servers in
different sites, to which the customer has an easy remote access from any location or system having an
Internet connection. On this account, the online data storage is of benefit to the hosting companies as
well to the costumers. Actually, these companies can establish the data centers in offshore locations
and take advantage of lower installation costs.
In addition to the cost, storage technologies can be distinguished by evaluating some main
characteristics as well as performance, which is the time and the rate at which a piece of data can be
read from or written to the storage medium, and capacity, which denotes how much disk space one or
more storage devices provides (Techterms, 2009). To boost these fundamental characteristics, other
technologies emerged, such as Holographic Data Storage and DNA based Data Storage. The
Holographic Data Storage is a new emerging technology that helps considerably in high capacity data
storage by enhancing the process performance. Using this technology, the data writing and reading
processes are

Why We Shouldn T Video Games Be Banned
Many people have their own tastes of video games. so some people play puzzle games like candy
crush others prefer to play free for all games like Goat Simulator and others like playing strategy
games like Plants vs. Zombies, or PVZ for short. Or if you are a person obsessed with video games
and then they outlawed them life would be as dull as a broken pencil. But we should not ban any game
genre, maybe people are misjudging video games. One reason is that when people play video games
they enter a virtual reality universe where they can do all sorts of stuff have a grappling tonge, be an
octopus who is a father, or even dance! So because I am a gamer that doesn t make me violent because
I play 100% of the time games that are not gorey. I know that some games make people, violent that is
because they want to do what they see in the game because they like it and want to mimic it in the real
world, we just need to keep an eye on how video games can make a person act. The main thing that I
am trying to tell you is that people should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

have come from a longer from a long time with gaming with lots of experience over the years. Also
gaming can create friendships like when I was playing animal jam I met this person in on animal jam

The Green Party
Bernie Sanders fever is sweeping the across the country. After a credible showing in Iowa, he is well
placed to win New Hampshire. The most astonishing thing about this is that he has managed to turn
socialism from a taboo in American politics into a norm. His run and prominence has led to 43 percent
of Iowa caucus voters to self identifying as socialist (Scher 2016). The problem is that actual socialists
are in some cases rooting against Senator Sanders. His candidacy has led to a split amongst socialists,
with some feeling that he is a bona fide socialist while others feel is a socialist in name only (Scher
2016). As a whole, the parties that would be considered socialist do not place well in elections. The
Green Party, which is probably the most well known party with socialist aims, had 469,627 votes in
the 2012 election according to the FEC. While not massive, it still dwarfs the totals of parties with the
word socialist in their name. Combined, they received a whopping 86,528 votes in 2012 (FEC). Many
feel that Sanders has sold out , by pledging to support billionaire backed Hilary Clinton should she
win (Scher 2016). Many within the far left feel that Sanders campaign is pulling votes and interest
away from true socialist parties and policies, and could weaken the platform overall. Most socialist
parties prefer to stay united behind one candidate, in this case the Green s Dr. Jill Stein, and get on the
ballot consistently rather than be split with Sanders

Benefits Of Tax Free Investments
In the world of investing, many investors use different investment vehicles to reach their financial
goals. Investment vehicles are specific investment products that investors use to with objectives of
having positive returns on their investment. Due to the taxation structure in the United States investors
must do their due diligence about investments to see which vehicle fits their specific needs. The
reason for having to do due diligence because there are many different investments, but there are only
three taxation structures which are tax free, tax deferred, and taxed. Tax free investments are

All in all, the interest you acquire from municipal tax exempt bonds is excluded from income tax if a

How To Put My Incapacitated Dog
On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It
became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in
the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or
the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years
and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not
have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life.
I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day in 1990. Earlier that week my mother was
near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to
Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the
animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but
friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused,
but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized
she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict,
and there was a seven day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow
ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to
leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom
received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through
adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New
York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I
was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I
immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over
the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with
happiness. We did this for about an hour until I

The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie Summary
In The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie narration is a key element in the appeal of the story. The book starts
off in medias res and continues to make use of both analepses and prolepses. Many believe that an
omniscient narrator, in part because of the anachrony, recounts the book but in this essay I will argue
that the book has an unreliable narrator through examination of the narration of character of Mary. On
many occasions Muriel Spark uses narration to endorse the treatment of Mary by the other characters,
meaning that the story s narration contains the opinions of the narrator. If the narrator is unreliable in
the account of Mary, then that brings into question the entire narrative discourse since the reader no
longer has a way of distinguishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Metamorphosis Of Narcissus
The painting Metamorphosis of Narcissus was created in 1937 by oil on canvas by Salvador Dali. This
painting uses a lot of images to say what it means, for example, a person, a hand, water, a starving
dog, a chess board, a canyon or cliff, and people. This is not to fill the paper or distract the viewer
from the suggested meaning or point, but to support the idea that hope and despair are reflections of
one another; on opposite sides of a coin, spinning in mid air, waiting to land and fix or destroy
everything.
The first thing that one thinks upon first seeing it, from far away, is that Dali just painted the same
thing twice.
From afar, it appears as if he simply cut the canvas down the middle and made one side brown and the

The huge mural has become an icon of Picasso s work and has been interpreted in several unique
ways, many of which contradict Picasso s actual intentions.
Artistically, the composition is balanced and is a characteristic of Picasso s work; perfectly planned
and flowing.
The symbols of this piece despite the misconceptions of it s many critics, including those present at
the World s Fair in the year that the painting was introduced, were clearly defined by Picasso himself.
The preliminary sketches of the work began in May of 1937, and was commissioned by the official
Republican government of Spain in January of the same year. It was to be displayed in the
International
Spanish Pavilion at the 1937 International Exhibition, or as it is more popularly known, the World s

Picasso went through many artistic periods throughout his career as an artist, one of which was

as is dictated by the cubism style. The picture plain is not, however, fractured like many of the

Ocd Symptoms, And Ocd Cognition
Many OCD symptoms are represented by at least four to five symptom dimensions. This experiment
was conducted to determine the relationship between OCD symptoms, and OCD cognition. They did
so, by using the Gold Standard clinician administrate red scale for OCD the Yale Brown Obsessive

perfectionism/intolerance of uncertainty, 67.9 (SD = 25.5) for responsibility/threat estimation, and
40.2 (SD = 19.1) for importance/ control of thoughts.  The specified YBOCS SC categories that

components were: (1) hoarding, (2) contamination/cleaning, (3) symmetry/ordering, (4)
unacceptable/taboo thoughts (consisting of impulsive aggressive, sexual and religious obsessions and

Examples Of Moral Obligation In Antigone
We as humans have a moral obligation to be disobedient towards laws because no one should be

him; and if I must die, I say that this crime is holy (Sophocles 2. 57). She just wanted to see her

What Is Equality And Discrimination
What is equality?
Equality is making sure that individuals or groups of individuals are treated equally and fairly. This
includes making sure that no individual is treated less favourably. Individuals should not be treated
differently due to their race, gender, age, religious views, and sexual orientation.
Equality awareness should remove discrimination in all of the areas mentioned above. Bullying,
harassment or victimization is also considered as equality and diversity issues.

Diversity is the range of different things. Such as race, age, gender, religious views, sexual orientation,
community, and disability.

Emergency Nurses Act As The Front Line Of Health Care
Emergency nurses act as the front line of health care. There are many aspects of emergency nursing
that make this specialty stand out. Patient load varies, making teamwork crucial. A great extent of
knowledge on many illnesses and injuries is required to care successfully for the range of patients seen
by an emergency nurse. Triage plays a significant role in recognizing the severity of patient
complaints, but also in directing patients to appropriate areas and care providers. Screening starts in
triage, but is continuously carried out by emergency nurses in efforts to identify all the needs of their
patients. Emergency nursing also has many facets that can act as a stressor, including a feeling of
incompetence. Ethical issues are a constant battle in nursing, but emergency nurses struggle with the
use and prescription of opioids and the decision to post wait times. When compared, emergency
nurses play an important role that is unlike other nursing specialties. Improving Efficiency of Triage to
Meet the Demands of the Emergency Department Emergency nurses often care for a variety of
patients with minor injuries to critical illnesses. It is emergency nurses that frequently see patients
before physicians. This sequence makes it especially important for emergency nurses to be able to

Power Corruption in Heart of Darkness Essay
In Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness, the author fiercely challenges imperialism. Through this
challenge, he demonstrates the internal battles of good and evil. In his work, he also displays issues of
personal morals and alienation. At the time the novella was written, Europe had established territories
across the map. It holds true that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, especially
when said power reigns over the fate of humans in society. Conrad illustrates the corruption of power
through the books motif of darkness and the renegade of Kurtz. Darkness makes a quick appearance in
the literature because it s in the title. Darkness is seen on the river. And the river was there fascinating
deadly like a snake. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The standard in the Victorian era was the men were far away, while the women were morally
supportive, but oblivious to the reality of the man s work, although they economically benefitted from
it. This proves the way power corrupts because Kurtz abused the opportunities given after falling from
the edge of moral standards, even after his Intended attempts to show him the way. In 1902, when
Conrad wrote the book, it was common to base culture off of superiority, therefore it was seen that
Kurtz was in the Congo for the redemption of natives. In the text, Joseph Conrad gives much respect
to the native tribes, Mr. Kurtz, however, has none. Exterminate all brutes! (Conrad 50) he says,
claiming that if he cannot change the natives, they should be thrown out. He, and many people like
him, introduced new cultures to societies that did not want it. The corruption of the spirituality found
in some cultures is thus caused by the hunger for power from interference from separate societies.
Power and happiness go hand in hand. When one abuses power it reveal their limitations and perhaps
inability to maintain power to help the greater good. One of these may be the differences in laws for
those in a position in power and those who are not, and abuse occurs through moral differences in
such society. Everything belonged to him but that was a trifle. The thing to know was what he

Essay about The Heroism of Minerva Mirabal Who was the...
How do the Mirabal sisters compare to colonial patriots? Both fought for freedom. Both risked their
lives to gain their freedom. And even though all of the Mirabal sisters were involved,
I believe that Minerva was the most courageous. She fought for her personal freedom, she fought for
the rights of women, and she even brought her own family into the rebellion to assist her in fighting
against tyranny.. Through this essay I will explain my overall opinion and show that
Minerva was the bravest and most devoted of the Mirabal sisters.
Minerva first began to show her bravery when she wanted to go to a boarding school. She was not

Hmong Culture Case Study
Over a period of time, the Hmong people have immigrated from country to country due to oppression
from governments and due to their involvement in wars. For this reason, Hmong people are now
found living scattered across the globe (Tatman 2004). With no country to call home, they fled to the
hillsides and mountain tops of nearby neighboring countries. As a result, the Hmong people had to
reestablish their communities and families wherever the settled. Although the Hmong s lacked a
formal government and a central leader, Hmong families were often lead by a dominant male figure

Life of Pi Cast Away Comparative Essay:
Belief and Survival
In order for human kind to survive the painfully realistic days of existence, a sort of belief system is
direly needed. As shown through Pi Patel from Life of Pi and Chuck Noland from Cast Away, holding
onto a belief of something provides one with the determination to survive the worst conditions. Both
the novel and the book share the story of two castaways who depend on their belief in something to
survive and conquer their respective challenges Pi Patel who depends on his faith in religion, and
Chuck Noland with his faith in returning to civilization back to his loved one. At one point, they both

Additionally, this fluctuation of faith can also be seen through Chuck Noland in Cast Away. When
Chuck Noland reaches his lowest point of hopelessness, he attempts to commit suicide. As time
progresses, his faith in seeing Kelly again slowly diminish because Noland is aware that she had to let
[him] go (Zemeckis, Cast Away). He realizes that she probably thinks that he is already dead and thus
in a sense, Noland knows that he has already lost her. Like Pi, Noland also loses his motivation of
surviving, as he believes Kelly has moved on with her life and begins to believe that he is going die
alone on this island.
As both characters face the biggest hurdle of their journey, a miracle occurs and their faith is revived
and stronger than ever for the remainder of their journey back to land. For Pi Patel, he finds a floating
paradise called Algae Island with unlimited amounts of vegetation, fresh water, and meerkats. In a
sense, it is as if God gives him a quick break by satisfying him with an endless supply of food and
water. One way to perceive the island is that it symbolizes religion in an organized manner. For
example, Pi states that the island has evenly scattered, identically sized ponds with trees sparsely
distributed in a uniform way between them, the whole arrangement giving the unmistakable
impression of following a design (Martel 334). Like the island, religion is an

The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety
The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing them to
feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can potentially affect
anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent within the classroom, as
that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of math anxiety are: public
exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are
fully understood, a method to overcome them can be created. Firstly, it is important to understand
when someone is suffering from math anxiety. Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of
being alone, a lack of confidence and panic during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph)
Public exposure refers to a student being publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to
answer a question. This can lead to many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up
during class as to not make a fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been
reprimanded or scolded by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even
scared of answering a question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be
with positive reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their
failure constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every

The Business Problems Facing Google
1. What do you think are the TWO main business problems facing Google in this case? Provide
support for the assertions you just made.
Competition is one of the main business problems Google is facing. With its abundance of products
and services, Google encounters competition from companies that belong to different industries. New
disruptive technologies in addition to rapid change are just some of the characteristics of those
industries.
Google s competitive landscape includes companies that connect people with information and related
advertising on the web. One of them is Yahoo! that competes with Google in search and paid listings.
Some of the products created by Yahoo! are direct rivals to Google s Local Search, Home Page,
Froogle, Gmail, Maps, and Picasa applications. In the industry of e commerce, Google is facing
competition from eBay. Both Google Checkout and eBay s PayPal offer checkout services to third
party retailers.
Along with competition, Google is facing a lot of legal problems. Advertisers, news publishers, and
users complained about the performance of Google s core business. For instance, in 2004 Geico sued
Google for showing competitors ads when users searched for Geico. Google News also went under
attack when online news publishers repeatedly complained that Google used their content without
permission. The company has also been accused of damaging acts towards privacy of its users.

Buddhism

Fall 2014
I. Introduction
Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha ). He was born ca. 563
B.C.E. in Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a king
and queen. Legend has it that at his birth an astrologer predicted he would withdraw from the temporal
life. His father, in an effort to prevent this, provided him with many luxuries and pleasures. As a
young man, he once went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw severe forms of suffering:
old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer, according to the Asia Society
(2014). The Buddha had a difficult time reconciling his life compared to human suffering and
abandoned his way of life leaving his wife and new son. He lived in the forest to the point of near
starvation. Finally, he ate some food and sat down by a tree to meditate. According to some
approximately six months later he attained Nirvana and discovered the true answers of suffering and
the release from it.
There are three basic principles of the Buddha s teachings: Sila, Samadhi, and Panna. Sila is the
development of morality. Samadhi is the tool to purify the mind on order to see its nature, how to
control it, how to develop it, and make use of it. Panna is wisdom or enlightenment the realization of
the true nature of life and universe at large.

Medieval European Feudalism
Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic
invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The
constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of government,
which for Europe was feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries, until the
eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan, although
geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE, which lasted
until around 1600. After any strong central power fell off, warring clans needed to bolster their
military prowess, so military leaders began to hire samurai to fight the opposition. ... Show more

In Europe, monarchs would distribute their land to lords, in return for military service and protection.
These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords, known as vassals.
Like Europe, in Japan, the shogun would give land to the shugo, later known as the daimyō, who
would then give land to the samurai. However, unlike Europe, these were not formal contracts made
between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on honor and moral obligations. In
Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and contracts were made to enforce this. The
role of the monarch or emperor in both societies played a very similar role; both the monarch in
Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of
central authority in the two states. The Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on
the role of a central power in Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example,
when Pope Gregory VII had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the
king, freeing his subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. These two
systems may have had their overlap in feudal structure, but the use of moral contracts in Japan would
allow samurai to be free from loyalty to their

We first hear the word power in our lifetime often when we are children. Usually in a question what is
your favorite super power ? Most children answer with abnormal abilities such as flying or invisibility.
In its most innocent way power is inherent we think of it as an ability. However as most children grow
up they learn that power isn t always on the good guys side. Power is defined as what enables one
person to control the behaviors of others . Power turns into a struggle from teacher to student, parents

Children for example need guidance and protection, therefore being a perfect example of the power

likely someone seen in a position of power based off nothing more than their position in your life.
This can be seen in the movie crash where the little girl (Lara) believes and inherently trusts her father
(Danial). He has a right of power based on the fact he s her father which allows a level of trust, and
feeling of safety for the little girl. Furthermore legitimate power can also be found in work place
environments where employer and employee relationship are in continuous power struggles. This

European And Non-European Culture In The 1500s And 1600s
Europeans had many goals throughout the 1500s and 1600s. To achieve their goals, they deferred to

themselves to Non European culture? The European traders and missionaries would accommodate
themselves by integrating into the Non European culture, by adapting their physical appearance, by

In order for Europe s influence to be successful across the world, they had a guide written by Father

In the following essay I seek to show evidence of how Thomas Hardy was acutely aware of the social
status of people, how village and town life was conducted, how men and women reacted to their own

Social class is raised a lot in Hardy s pieces. Even though these stories were all written at a different
time and then put together, you can see it is a strong theme in the book.

Before the advancement of medical technology to prolong the lives of patients with lethal conditions,
end of life care did not involve many discussions of ethics or morals. Even just a hundred years ago, it
was common to speak of letting nature run its course. Today, patients and their relatives have many
more options to utilize medical devices in hospital intensive care units to prolong life, whether that

Anne Bradstreet Influence
Anne was the first poet of America. Her writing style reflected things and events that occurred during
her lifetime. For her, writing poetry was an outlet for stress being that she was a Puritan and they did
not allow women to be educated. Anne Bradstreet s poems directly reflected her emotions and how
she processed the events around her. A lot of her poetry is sad and somber. Being that she is a Puritan
she has a lot of biblical references in her poems. In The Flesh and the Spirit Anne takes these two
objects and personifies them. She created an environment Where the Flesh and the Spirit where two
sisters arguing, Spirit says, Sisters are we, yea, twins we be, yet deadly feud twixt thee and me; for
one father are we not, thou by old Adam wast begot, (223) she tells the sister that their feud has not

Senate Reform Case Study
Challenges in reforming Canada s Senate and the Supreme Court
In terms of reforming Parliament s upper chamber, the task is faced with several challenges. The
Canadian constitution makes it difficult to make certain reforms to the Senate as the powers, selection
and qualifications of senators, and the length of their terms are all defined in the Constitution Act of
1867 (Pare, 2009, p. 1). Thus, a constitutional amendment is needed to make any significant reform to
the Senate. Also, according to section 44 of the Constitution Act of 1982, Parliament can amend the
Constitution without the provinces. (Barnes et al., 2011, p. 1). In fact, section 44 allows Parliament to

The British North America Act of 1867 contained a subsection which described how the Parliament of
Canada would be created. In fact, section 17 states that there shall be One Parliament for Canada,
consisting of the Queen, an Upper House styled the Senate and the House of Commons (BNAAct,
1867, IV.17). In other words, Parliament s three institutions are required to pass laws and without the
Senate, bills cannot become law (Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 11). Thus, a constitutional
amendment is required to change how Parliament operates and how the legislative process works.
More importantly, as part of the legislative process and since Parliament itself must agree to abolish
the Senate along with the ten provinces, Senators will have to agree to abolish the institution in which
they work to represent their regions. Also, smaller provinces must be taken into account as these
provinces, such as the Maritimes, would not agree to abolish the Senate as they are overrepresented in
the chamber can maintain sufficient representation for their interests and concerns. Therefore,
abolishing the Senate is a task which requires negotiations with the provinces and is a process that is

  • 2. Why It Is Important To Become An Organ Donor Organ donation: a person with healthy organs and tissues allows for them to be transplanted to those in need, usually after death. Being an organ donor can be as simple as filling out an information card on the back of your driver s license. It is easy to do and is a very selfless and caring thing to commit to. Organ donation is a simple, yet amazing act. Every day, people in need of vital organs die due to lung failure, heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and other illnesses. In fact, over 120,000 people in the United States are in need of vital organ transplants. Every day twenty two people on that list die. Every ten minutes, another person is added to the list. Each year there are more than one million people waiting for life improving tissues and eyes. These are not just numbers; they are people who are waiting to receive what is basically life or death. This sounds like a very large amount of people, but there is hope. A single ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cause of death is actually what determines if organ donation is an option. Most people who actually become organ donors suffer fatal head injuries, either from something like a car accident or a brain aneurysm or stroke. After the person is admitted to the hospital, if nothing else can be done to save him or her, organ donation is finally brought into the picture. After death has occurred an examination of the potential donor s physical and historical status is conducted. In this examination, a physician examines the current physical state of the potential donor. For example, if the individual s cause of death damaged certain organs, then those organs would be ruled out. The medical history of the potential donor is also examined. For example, the individual being a smoker would determine them ineligible. If everything checks out the potential recipients are examined to determine if the operation can be ... • 3. The Conflict Of Syrian Refugees, Hosting Countries And... What do you want to be when you grow up? is the question that many children answer with aspirations of hope and achievement. For 11 year old Hamsa the answer was a doctor but instead living out his dream, his reality is hearing that his school was bombed just before his arrival to a refugee camp in Jordan (UNHCR). Hamsa and other children make up 3 quarters out of the 7.5 million Syrians that have been internally displaced or become refugees due to the country s current conflict (Jones and Shaheen). Although we can never fully fathom the obstacles and position of loss faced by so many Syrians, we can try to better understand one of the worst humanitarian disasters of our time. By recognizing the damaging results of Syria s civil war creating we can try to understand numerous challenges for Syrian refugees, hosting countries and international organizations trying to aid the effort. Migration According to Stalker there are two theories of migration: individual, where one weighs the options in a strategic way such as provide economic advance and structural, where one is forced to move due political, economic or social situations beyond their control (23). Syrians fall under the structural approach where factors of conflict, violence and human right abuses push them away from their country. Through increased violence and lack of human security, forced migration has left many to be refugees and or internally displaced persons (IDPs) (Castles and Miller 56). The United ... • 4. Harvey Henderson Quotes The dark sky, filled with angry, swirling clouds, reflected Geoffrey Henderson s mood as he sat at the table. His mother s voice came to him again lecturing him endlessly about his poor efforts in science. Geoffrey had just recently turned sixteen and his mother had wanted him to mature and start focusing on his studies. He sat in the small, pale green kitchen listening, knowing that the lecture would end with his mother saying he couldn t play volleyball with the Patriots. He played on his high school team. He had asked his mother the week before if he could continue playing, and she explicitly had said that it depended on his next report card; it didn t go so well. Vince Reed said. Vince Reed got up after patting his rags in place and looked out the window again. Looks like they re gone. You get on out of here and get yourself home. I ll be watching from the window so you ll be alright. Vince Reed went down the stairs behind Geoffrey. When they reached the front door the old man looked out first, saw the street was clear and told Geoffrey to scoot on home. You sure you ll be OK? Geoffrey asked. Now didn t I tell you I was going to east St. Louis in the morning? Vince Reed asked. Don t that sound OK to you? Sure it does, Geoffrey said. Sure it does. And you take care of that treasure of yours. That I ll do, Vince said, the wrinkles around his eyes suggesting a smile. That I ll do. Geoffrey didn t even want to think how late it was. He thought ahead of what his mother would say. Geoffrey pushed the button and thought of the lecture he knew his mother would give him, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about History 11a China is a country with a long history. Looking back in history, there are many virtuous personages. After I read the Book of Odes and the Chronicles of Zuo, I found that both the official Zhongshan Fu and the Zichan are outstanding people, who help their duck to make a better kingdom. In fact, they shared some similar qualities. First, Both of Zhongshan Fu and Zichan were loyal. So, they could gain the trust form the king, and they were entrusted with an important post. In the Song 260 from Book of Odes, it says, Obedient to the Son of Heaven, Whose glorious commands he spreads abroad. Also, from the king s command in Song 260, we know that the king let Zhongshan Fu to be the king s throat and tongue, spread his edicts aboard, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Song 260 from the Book of Odes, it says, The king charged Zhongshan Fu to fortify the eastern land. His four steeds so fine, the eight harness bells chiming. Zhongshan Fu went to QI and swift was his return. Form this description, we can see that Zhongshan Fu s role was not making decision or giving suggestion to the king, but executed the order form king. While on the contrary, Zichan was skilled in making suggestion. From the Chronicles of Zuo, there are many stories tell us when the king made bad or wrong decisions, Zichan always objected to the king and told him the reason. He was not afraid that he king would be unhappy or even angry. For example, when the Zipi wished to grant lordship of fief to Yin He, Zichan opposed Zipi s decision. He listed many reasons why Yin He couldn t be in charged of his fief. Because of his wisdom and persuasion, finally Zipi agreed with his suggestion, and trusted him more and more. Zichan was really a minded person. He always put himself to the position of king to think problem, so that he could make a right decision, which is more suitable than king s own decision. In fact, as a decision maker for a country, if not considered all aspects or even make a small mistake, it would bring negative influence or even disaster to this country. Secondly, Zhongshan Fu and Zichan had different relationship to the ruler. Zhongshan Fu was just an official of Zhou, and obedient to the Son of Heaven. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A customer fire drill could arise (Eshelman, 2011); a sudden change in the organization, budgetary cuts, and so forth. A manager constantly has to be ready to change direction and still produce results. A bulk of the daily work load is spent on managerial duties, such as dealing with the problems at hand (Eshelman, 2011), making decisions, leading employees, and ensuring a natural flow of projects and operations. Two of the most critical managerial issues Mr. Eshelman describes are budgeting and employee relations. The company must have employees, products, and other resources to run the business in a profitable manner. It is a manager s responsibility to weigh the balance of effectiveness vs. efficiency and profit vs. loss on a constant basis. When certain budgetary allocations change, the manager needs to find alternatives and put plans into place to reduce cost but still maintain profitability and productivity. In Eshelman s opinion, the three most important manager skills to possess are the ability to make impromptu decisions, have technical competency, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Endocrinology Of Male And Female Reproduction Reproductive physiology is comprised of many tightly coordinated functions of the endocrine system including the hypothalamus, pituitary and reproductive organs whose dynamic function plays several critical roles in growth and development as well was reproduction. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis plays a critical role in the development and regulation of the reproductive system. These tightly regulated functions within the pituitary must respond to continuously changing signals from the central nervous system gonads and provide the quick responses. The hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis is comprised of major hormones, including gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) and operate through both positive and negative feedback loops in mammals.1 When toxicants affect any part of this axis s function, either by altering cellular activity or the signals themselves, the physiology can impacted by immediate and downstream effects. An understanding of the endocrinology of male and female reproduction, is required to understand how toxicological effects can have severe consequences on reproductive physiology. GnRH is a prominent reproductive hormone that is produced in neural cells in the hypothalamus. GnRH is secreted into the bloodstream where it is carried downstream to the pituitary gland and activates the Gonadotropin Releasing hormone receptor. 2 Once these cells are activated, signal transduction ... Two types of data storage are presented: paper and electronic. • 11. The Green Party Bernie Sanders fever is sweeping the across the country. After a credible showing in Iowa, he is well placed to win New Hampshire. The most astonishing thing about this is that he has managed to turn socialism from a taboo in American politics into a norm. His run and prominence has led to 43 percent of Iowa caucus voters to self identifying as socialist (Scher 2016). The problem is that actual socialists are in some cases rooting against Senator Sanders. His candidacy has led to a split amongst socialists, with some feeling that he is a bona fide socialist while others feel is a socialist in name only (Scher 2016). As a whole, the parties that would be considered socialist do not place well in elections. The Green Party, which is probably the most well known party with socialist aims, had 469,627 votes in the 2012 election according to the FEC. While not massive, it still dwarfs the totals of parties with the word socialist in their name. Combined, they received a whopping 86,528 votes in 2012 (FEC). Many feel that Sanders has sold out , by pledging to support billionaire backed Hilary Clinton should she win (Scher 2016). Many within the far left feel that Sanders campaign is pulling votes and interest away from true socialist parties and policies, and could weaken the platform overall. • 13. How To Put My Incapacitated Dog On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, I had finalized the decision to put my incapacitated dog to rest. It became a reality. I clearly remember the warm, breezy day that occurred two weeks ago. As I sat in the freshly cutgrass of my front yard, I paid no attention to the sounds of the birds that were singing or the leaves that were dancing on the trees. All that was on my mind was the details of the last 13 years and remembering the times we shared together. As I kept trying to convince myself that he would not have to suffer another day from his ailments, I kept thinking of the first day that he came into my life. I was 15 years old when I got Valen. It was Valentine s Day in 1990. Earlier that week my mother was near Port Jervis, New York on a business trip. She had some free time before she had to come home to Pennsylvania so she decided to stop at the local SPCA. Her intentions were to simply look at the animals and then leave. She made her way to the area that housed the dogs. There she found a shy, but friendly, golden retriever. He was a bit apprehensive at first, almost as if he was neglected and abused, but it didn t take much of my mom s gentle touch and her soft, subtle voice before this dog realized she was his savior. She decided that she would like to adopt this dog however, the policy was strict, and there was a seven day waiting period before you could adopt an animal. This was in place to allow ample time for the owner to claim their animals if they got astray. As much as my mom wanted to leave that day with the dog, she had to wait. It was on Tuesday, February 13, 1990 that my mom received a call from the SPCA. They were pleased to have the opportunity to offer her the dog through adoption since no one had come forward to claim him. She decided that she would go back to New York the next day to pick him up. On Valentine s Day, I got home from school and to my surprise I was greeted at the door by this vivacious, brown eyed golden retriever. I was so excited and I immediately sat down on the cold, ceramic floor and played with my new friend. We rolled all over the floor and I was giggling as he licked my face, and at the same time, he was whimpering with happiness. We did this for about an hour until I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. The Main Causes Of The Woes Of Math Anxiety The Woes of Math Anxiety Math anxiety is the phenomenon that affects may people, causing them to feel anxiety or stress when faced with anything related to math. Math anxiety can potentially affect anyone with the condition at any point in their lives, but it is most prominent within the classroom, as that is when the math is the most stressful. Three of the main causes of math anxiety are: public exposure, the influence of teachers, and time deadlines (Curtain Phillips, 2017). Once the causes are fully understood, a method to overcome them can be created. Firstly, it is important to understand when someone is suffering from math anxiety. Some symptoms are: passive behavior, a feeling of being alone, a lack of confidence and panic during tests (Oxford 2017). ( In complete paragraph) Public exposure refers to a student being publicly wrong, such as when called upon a by a teacher to answer a question. This can lead to many students, especially those with math anxiety to not speak up during class as to not make a fool of themselves. Sometimes in even worse cases, a student has been reprimanded or scolded by a teacher in the past which would cause them to become weary or even scared of answering a question in class (Oxford 2017). The best way to overcome this issue would be with positive reinforcement. Placing great focus on their success while keeping criticisms of their failure constructive gives the student the message that it is ok to be wrong, as no one is correct every ... • 30. The Business Problems Facing Google 1. What do you think are the TWO main business problems facing Google in this case? Provide support for the assertions you just made. Competition is one of the main business problems Google is facing. With its abundance of products and services, Google encounters competition from companies that belong to different industries. New disruptive technologies in addition to rapid change are just some of the characteristics of those industries. Google s competitive landscape includes companies that connect people with information and related advertising on the web. One of them is Yahoo! that competes with Google in search and paid listings. Some of the products created by Yahoo! are direct rivals to Google s Local Search, Home Page, Froogle, Gmail, Maps, and Picasa applications. In the industry of e commerce, Google is facing competition from eBay. Both Google Checkout and eBay s PayPal offer checkout services to third party retailers. Along with competition, Google is facing a lot of legal problems. Advertisers, news publishers, and users complained about the performance of Google s core business. For instance, in 2004 Geico sued Google for showing competitors ads when users searched for Geico. Google News also went under attack when online news publishers repeatedly complained that Google used their content without permission. The company has also been accused of damaging acts towards privacy of its users. 2. Suppose you need to reduce the list of business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Field Research Report On Buddhism Field Research Report Buddhism Angela Ginalick Fall 2014 I. Introduction Buddhism was started by a man named Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha ). He was born ca. 563 B.C.E. in Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills. Siddhartha Gautama was the warrior son of a king and queen. Legend has it that at his birth an astrologer predicted he would withdraw from the temporal life. His father, in an effort to prevent this, provided him with many luxuries and pleasures. As a young man, he once went on a series of four chariot rides where he first saw severe forms of suffering: old age, illness, and death (a corpse), as well as an ascetic renouncer, according to the Asia Society (2014). The Buddha had a difficult time reconciling his life compared to human suffering and abandoned his way of life leaving his wife and new son. He lived in the forest to the point of near starvation. Finally, he ate some food and sat down by a tree to meditate. According to some approximately six months later he attained Nirvana and discovered the true answers of suffering and the release from it. There are three basic principles of the Buddha s teachings: Sila, Samadhi, and Panna. Sila is the development of morality. Samadhi is the tool to purify the mind on order to see its nature, how to control it, how to develop it, and make use of it. Panna is wisdom or enlightenment the realization of the true nature of life and universe at large. The Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Medieval European Feudalism Medieval Europe, which lasted from about 500 1300 CE, originally was filled with Germanic invasions and threats from groups such as the Islamic Caliphate, the Magyars, and the Vikings. The constant instability from these external threats eventually demanded for a new system of government, which for Europe was feudalism. This system of government would last for centuries, until the eventual rise of towns and trade around Europe began the downfall of feudalism. Japan, although geographically independent of Europe, developed a similar system in around 1300 CE, which lasted until around 1600. After any strong central power fell off, warring clans needed to bolster their military prowess, so military leaders began to hire samurai to fight the opposition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Europe, monarchs would distribute their land to lords, in return for military service and protection. These lords would distribute the land even further by giving fiefs to lesser lords, known as vassals. Like Europe, in Japan, the shogun would give land to the shugo, later known as the daimyō, who would then give land to the samurai. However, unlike Europe, these were not formal contracts made between the two parties. The agreements would be based purely on honor and moral obligations. In Europe, feudal agreements were all legal agreements, and contracts were made to enforce this. The role of the monarch or emperor in both societies played a very similar role; both the monarch in Europe and the emperor in Japan were largely figureheads and held no real power, leading to lack of central authority in the two states. The Catholic Church, with influence across the continent, took on the role of a central power in Europe, stronger than any individual or group at the time. For example, when Pope Gregory VII had a dispute with King Henry VI of England, the Pope excommunicated the king, freeing his subjects from allegiance to him, which was soon followed by revolts. These two systems may have had their overlap in feudal structure, but the use of moral contracts in Japan would allow samurai to be free from loyalty to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the question remains how did the Europeans accommodate themselves to Non European culture? The European traders and missionaries would accommodate themselves by integrating into the Non European culture, by adapting their physical appearance, by referring to the traditional practices, and through the response of the nations wants to European goods. The Setting for Thomas Hardy s The Withered Arm and Other Wessex Tales In the following essay I seek to show evidence of how Thomas Hardy was acutely aware of the social status of people, how village and town life was conducted, how men and women reacted to their own sex and to each other and the part religion played in people s daily lives. Social class is raised a lot in Hardy s pieces. Even though these stories were all written at a different time and then put together, you can see it is a strong theme in the book. An Ethical Case Study On End Of Life Care To Feed or Not to Feed: An Ethical Case Study on End of Life Care Before the advancement of medical technology to prolong the lives of patients with lethal conditions, end of life care did not involve many discussions of ethics or morals. Even just a hundred years ago, it was common to speak of letting nature run its course. Today, patients and their relatives have many more options to utilize medical devices in hospital intensive care units to prolong life, whether that entails resuscitation, ventilation, or artificial feeding and hydration. She looked at me and had some facial expression. John continued, We tried to feed her water and liquidized foods, but because she could not swallow or move her mouth, we had to force it down, and she coughed often when we tried this. We thought maybe the force feeding was causing some of the food to go into her respiratory tract, which was bad. We felt very, very helpless. For her, writing poetry was an outlet for stress being that she was a Puritan and they did not allow women to be educated. Anne Bradstreet s poems directly reflected her emotions and how she processed the events around her. A lot of her poetry is sad and somber. Being that she is a Puritan she has a lot of biblical references in her poems. In The Flesh and the Spirit Anne takes these two objects and personifies them. She created an environment Where the Flesh and the Spirit where two sisters arguing, Spirit says, Sisters are we, yea, twins we be, yet deadly feud twixt thee and me; for one father are we not, thou by old Adam wast begot, (223) she tells the sister that their feud has not been resolved. • 39. Senate Reform Case Study Challenges in reforming Canada s Senate and the Supreme Court In terms of reforming Parliament s upper chamber, the task is faced with several challenges. The Canadian constitution makes it difficult to make certain reforms to the Senate as the powers, selection and qualifications of senators, and the length of their terms are all defined in the Constitution Act of 1867 (Pare, 2009, p. 1). Thus, a constitutional amendment is needed to make any significant reform to the Senate. Also, according to section 44 of the Constitution Act of 1982, Parliament can amend the Constitution without the provinces. (Barnes et al., 2011, p. 1). In fact, section 17 states that there shall be One Parliament for Canada, consisting of the Queen, an Upper House styled the Senate and the House of Commons (BNAAct, 1867, IV.17). In other words, Parliament s three institutions are required to pass laws and without the Senate, bills cannot become law (Library of Parliament, 2002, p. 11). Thus, a constitutional amendment is required to change how Parliament operates and how the legislative process works. More importantly, as part of the legislative process and since Parliament itself must agree to abolish the Senate along with the ten provinces, Senators will have to agree to abolish the institution in which they work to represent their regions. Also, smaller provinces must be taken into account as these provinces, such as the Maritimes, would not agree to abolish the Senate as they are overrepresented in the chamber can maintain sufficient representation for their interests and concerns.
