Transatlantic Slave Trade Research Paper
Later the Dutch, English and French merchants controlled about half of the transatlantic slave
trade in the regions of West Africa between the Senegal and Niger Rivers. The European sailors
establish a system of navigation that bound Europe, Africa, and the Americas for a network of
commerce. The transatlantic slave trade was based on kidnapping and abduction as a major
method of slave acquisition and it was also used as a system of great opportunity to hold wealth,
political and economic control. Many of the enslave Africans went through a lot of horrors and
inhumane treatment during the middle passage in which they were sold for very low prices. The
middle passage slave accounts from Falcon Bridge and Equiano are a great example of what... Show

slaves was brought to the Caribbean to work on sugar plantations. Slaves from Africa were imported

Social And Social Data Analysis
Abstract Social data analysis could be a kind of analysis during Which individuals add a social,
cooperative context to form sense of knowledge Social data analysis includes 2 main constituent
parts: 1) knowledge generated from social networking sites (or through social applications), and
2) refined analysis of that knowledge, in several cases requiring period (or close to real time)
knowledge analytic, measurements that perceive and suitably weigh factors like influence,
reach, and contentedness, AN understanding of the context of the information being analyzed,
and also the inclusion of your time horizon concerns. In short, social knowledge analytics
involves the analysis of social media so as to know and surface insights that is embedded inside
the information. Geo location is that the identification of the real world geographic location of

The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving...
Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric
neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find
Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the
northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French,
Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has
changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American,
Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods
have an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these
districts are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic
conditions, and lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of
individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of foreign descent, it is only feasible to
hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for receiving quality health care. Many
of the residents may not know how to read and understand English, therefore, leading to
compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of Community Board 1 and 4
to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals living in Bushwick are
known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklynas a whole: the
difference being $9,000

Epidemiological Studies Essay
One of the most useful outcomes of studying epidemiology is learning how to evaluate critically
the scientific literature (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Critical assessment of this literature is an
important skill for public health professionals because the findings of epidemiologic research
inform so many activities (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Munnoch et al. (2008) done epidemiological
studies on S.Saintpaul infection occurred in Australia during October 2006 and found that
cantaloupe production and processing practices pose a potential public health threat requiring
regulatory and community education interventions. Based on main journal article written upon this
subject, this article will analyse how epidemiological research has helped us... Show more content

According to Munnoch et al.2008 the objective of study was cleared that consumption of
cantaloupe was directly linked to the infection and hypothesis study done was relevant because it
states that cantaloupe was consumed more frequently by cases than expected when compared with
the food consumption data for controls from an Australian Campylobacter case control study. So
study identified a strong epidemiological association between S.Saintapaul infection and
consumption of cantaloupe, with cases being 23 times more likely to have consumed cantaloupe
in the 4 days prior to onset of illness than controls. As there were so many people involved in the
research so study done was observational study, as no action was taken to change the health
outcome people were simply observed (Webb Bain, 2011). The study design used to measure in
terms of hypothesis generation method and observational study was useful.
STUDY PARAMETERS
Research exposure
Observational study design examined on the basis of exposure and health outcome. The exposure
of interest is the factor that either causes, Prevents, or treats the outcome. It is important to consider
whether the exposure was accurately defined and measured because exposure misclassification
stems from broad definitions and inaccurate measurements. (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). According
to Munnoch et al. (2008), study conducted to investigate the S.Saintapaul infection

Detroit s Bankruptcy Case Study
July 18, 2013, Detroit Michigan became the largest city in United States history to filed for
Chapter 9 bankruptcy in the amount was $20 billion dollars (Bomey, Priddle, Snavely 2013).
How does once a productive city fall so far it has resorted to filing for bankruptcy? Detroit s
bankruptcy starts in the 1950 s. Detroits has its highest population 1.85 million, which includes
290,000 manufacturing jobs (Weber,2013). Having an abundance of jobs, this attracts many African
Americans to relocate to Detroit. However many strikes begin to happen because many of their

Advantages And Definitions Of A Database Management System
Fundamentals of Database Management System
Before we talk about Fundamentals of database management system, we need to know what is a
Data . Data is a something which has an implicit meaning and that can be deduced to new facts
which can be recorded too.
Then we have to know what is a Database . Database is known as organized, structured and
centralized set of data collection which are stored in a computer system. That can be managed,
updated and accessed.
Now we have to know what is Database Management System . Database Management System is a
software package for store, manipulate, retrieve, update, maintain and data analyze in database.

Network data model
It was a first attempt of using data into databases, same time as the hierarchical data model were
developing. In the network data model data is represented as collections of records and
relationships are represented by sets. The most popular network DBMS is computer associates
IDMS/R. network data model were used for large databases. In network model files are related as
owners and members like in hierarchical model. But member file can have more than one owner
in network data model. So it was very complex. Lets see a example diagram for network data model.

A River Runs Through Us Essay
A River Runs Through Us 1. The Anacostia River is a metaphor for the way poor people and
minorities are treated (Hoover). In 1994, the Anacostia River was fourth on the list of American
Rivers Most Endangered Rivers (Rynor). Since the late 19 th century the water quality in this river
has slowly declined with the onset of urbanization and industrialization and the pollution that
accompanies this growth. The Anacostia is severely polluted with sediment, nutrients, pathogens,
toxins, and trash( Cleaning ). And it is no coincidence that the riverruns through some of
Washington D.C. s poorest communities in the south eastern sectionsof the city.

The north west sections of town contribute to most of the pollution plaguing the Anacostia River.
4. One resident of Anacostia said he has seen used hypodermic needles washing up along the
shoreline and ducks so thick on the water that it looked as if he could walk across their backs to
the other side (Lee). The ducks he describes have died as a result of the extreme pollution. This
description shows the dangerous effects of the pollution and the fact that it is killing the river s
wildlife as well as endangering residents. It is unsafe for residents of the area to swim or fish in
the river because of its extreme pollution and health risks. Recently, there have been signs posted
along the river which warn residents of the hazardous waters. However, for many years the
pollution of the Anacostia River was Washington s dirty little secret (Cohn, Warnings ) and there
were no signs warning people of the pollution.
5. The fact that the Anacostia River is Washington s dirty little secret reflects the attitude of the rest
of the city towards Anacostia. A great majority of the District prefers to ignore the underlying
problems faced by Anacostia; this ignorance is reflected in the condition of the river running
through its demolished communities. This area east of the river is unanimously known as one of
the poorest and most dangerous areas of the city. The fact that city is able to keep Anacostia hidden

The Historical Voices Of Opera
The Historical Voices of Opera:
From 1500 century to new Milieumn
For over thousands of years, Opera has become one of the greatest musical forms. By early 1600
s, Opera has made a major expansion all over Europe. Many singers were very skillful and
challenged of any vocal genre. Also, by this time the audience didn t just come and see actors
/actress play theatrical roles, they wanted to hear the sweet sound of the leading voices. Mostly,
the high vocal range parts stole the show. Between 1590 to 1900, the Castrati (male sopranos)
played the leading roles as the heroines, hero and villains, but it will take decades for women to
arise from the religious and political views which caused restriction on all opera houses to ban all
women to participate on stage. Like women, soon the rise for the castrate singers will decline and
restrictions to participate on stage will come into effect. There are four similarities between both
sexes that causes a rise and fall effect in the operatic form. First similarity is the history of the
opera. According to John Brister, before the existence of opera, each nationality has used boys,
falsettos, or eunuchs as singers to entertain and worship. Even though their voices admired by a
historical point of view, the falsetto and the eunuch didn t have appropriate signature or sound to
continue. Eventually, the Spanish and Roman church used castrati s in 1577 1578. They carried a
lighter tone similar to a woman s voice. Nonetheless,

We have been watching the in school performances for the Drama Theatre Arts classes every
year since eighth grade. To be apart of what I saw on stage was certainly a compelling experience.
Being in Drama Club, I understood what I was getting myself into. It was great to still being with
students like Nora and Alyssa who had a passion for theatre, but I also had to work with people
who aren t as into performing on stage. Theatre is a collaborative effort. Each group project
provided an internal struggle in the group. Either someone didn t know their lines, was
uncomfortable on stage, or was just hard to work with. I often found myself trying to hold a
group together and solving their problems. I know I m going to experience people like in the
theatre world, so I am glad I have experience in group thinking in an environment where I m not...

Although it is nothing new to me, risking on stage is something everyone struggles with. Improv
pushed me out of my comfort zone, performance poetry left me vulnerable, and singing live at

pretty well. Performance poetry was difficult. I didn t quite have the most harmonious group.
But I am glad we were able to go and preach what we did I had an absolute BLAST during the
musical theatre festival. I worked my butt off to go on stage, back to booth, on stage, back to
the booth, and for six hours straight. There were many technical difficulties, and I never want to
hear Sincerely Me again, but I had a blast while performing the number I did from Book Of
Mormon. My only regret is that I may have spread myself too thin. That number had so much
more potential, but I had to sacrifice so much of my rehearsal time to work on lights. I m just glad
I was able to make everyone happy as best I could. I just had to do what was best for the class as a

The Andes Mountains Of Bolivia
In the Andes Mountains of Bolivia, in a far, tucked away corner lay a beautiful green field. This
place had a family living on it who were very hard workers, but they also were very poor. There
was a middle aged man and women living on this farm. Along with them they had a son. The
father and his son would get up just before the crack of dawn and would work until lunch and then
keep working until dusk. For all this hard work they made very little money. The familycould not
afford an education for their son, so the motherhome schooled the boy at night so he could work
in the fields during the day. The boy and his father would go into town every week to get much
needed groceries for themselves. They would get a lift from a local friend who knew the family
very well. When they went into town, which only had a population of about 250 people, the boy
would look in amazement at how many people could fit into one place. The one thing that the boy
took notice to were the posters placed all over the place. Here, there, everywhere, were posters of
the famous Bolivian Formula Onedriver who had grown up with nothing and is now living and
racing on a grand scale, and is leading for the Formula One drivers championship. The poster next
to him said Karting Jr. race league! First race next Saturday! $30 dollars to join.

Gram Staining Procedure
Bacterial identification procedures are extremely important in the clinical laboratory.
Microorganisms need to be classified, and identified in order to distinguish one species from
another. Identification can isolate organisms that are disease agents, and enable physicians to make
diagnosis s. It also enables physicians to choose the best treatment/antibiotics to address that
specific organism. For example, some gram negative bacteriacan produce endotoxins when they
die, which would be of concern to a doctor prescribing antibiotics. Identifying a specific bacteria
as a source of a disease is the first step in moving towards discovering how it can be transmitted
and preventing reoccurrence. Species can be distinguished by morphology and... Show more content

This staining procedure was developed in the 1882, by a Danish bacteriologist, Hans Christian
Gram. This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet
(primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two
categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of
peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the
crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative
bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells
have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane
that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. These differences allow the crystal
violet stain to rinse away from them, then they retain the safranin stain and appear reddish/pink
under the microscope. Although it is very useful, it is not the only tooled needed to identify a
bacteria. Some bacteria, are gram variable, displaying both positive and negative reactions. Other
bacteria, such as Mycoplasmas, do not have a cell wall, rendering this test ineffective. Finally, it
does not provide enough information alone to identify a

Explication Of The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe
Holly Hecox Perdue English Composition II 28 February 2016 Explication: The Raven by
Edgar Allan Poe Through the use of an un named narrator in his poem entitled The Raven , Poe
darkly conveys feeling understood by many: hopelessness, lost love, and death. The poem
follows the un named narrator, as he reflects on, as well as struggles with, the realization of his
lost love, Lenore. Like many, he tries to detract his overwhelming feelings for Lenore by
investing his time in studying books. Despite his greatest efforts, he is unsuccessful. Much to
his surprise, his solitude is interrupted by an unanticipated visitor. Throughout the poem, Poe
uses imagery, tone, symbolism, and rhyme as a means of conveying his overall themes of
undying devotion and lingering grief. Around midnight on a bleak December night, a weak and
weary man is reading while nearly napping . He reads as a means of nullifying the sorrow he
feels for the lost Lenore . Suddenly, he is jolted alert by some visitor tapping at his chamber door.
The lonely man tells himself Tis some visitor and nothing more , but as he widely opens his
chamber door, he finds darkness there and nothing more . Staring into the darkness, the narrator
dreams about the impossibilities of his lost love, and even whispers her name; Lenore . Upon
returning to his chamber, a stronger tapping, at the window, is catching his attention. Courageously
exploring the noise, he is amused and relieved when a raven flies in from

The Uniqueness And Complexity Of David Foster Wallace s...
The uniqueness and complexity of David Foster Wallace s writing earned him a spot among the
most influential contemporary authors of his generation. He is most well known for his immense,
thousand page novel Infinite Jest, published in 1996, which grabbed the attention of readers
worldwide (Ericson). In addition, throughout his career, he published several other novels, short
stories, and nonfiction articles. His most popular works include The Broom of the System, Girl
with Curious Hair, Consider the Lobster and Other Essays, and The Pale King (Ericson). Wallace is
known for the stylistic devices of footnotes, endnotes, abbreviations, and specialized jargon, and the
literary techniques of metafiction, hyperreality, irony, and fragmentation (Ericson). Thematically,
he focused on finding truth in a society where pop culture, entertainment, and technology have
redefined humanity (Ericson). Although Wallace s writing appears during the postmodern era,
critics disagree over whether his work fits with this movement. Many writers refer to Wallace as
reviving or re defining postmodernism, calling him a post postmodernist; however, this
categorization is ambiguous. While elements of David Foster Wallaces writing warrant analysis
beneath an array of literary movements, a posthumanist lens is more appropriately suited to
understand the larger theme across his work. Wallace s short storyEverything is Green helps to
amplify this conclusion due to its conflict of

Essay On The Second Amendment
How can the original writing and intent of the second amendment, be relevant in our society today?
The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating
back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list
of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second
amendment states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right
of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of
the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific
type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into
question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a
cane. The man was fined $100.00. But it wasn t until 1856, that the second amendment was
affirmed by the US Supreme Court, that the ownership of a gun was extended to individuals as a

The Product Of The Whole Foods Company
The Whole Foods Company was established in Austin, Texas from an idea of four local
entrepreneurs who believed that the natural foods industry was developed enough to be
introduced into large retailing which was the Supermarket. The initial Whole Foods Market was
inaugurated in 1980 with a workforce of just 19 individuals. The initiators were John Mackey
and Renee Lawson Hardy who were the owners of Safer Way Natural Foods, together with Craig
Weller and Mark Skiles who owned the Clarksville Natural Grocery. The entity picked up quickly
and it was an immediate success. This could have been owed to the minimal presence of natural

it helps the firm achieve experience effects and location economies and the last advantage is that it

Summary Of A Different Drum By Simon Tong
Simon Tong s short story, The Beat of a Different Drum explores the journey of a young boy
immigrating from Hong Kong to Australia with a lack of knowledge of the Australian culture and
tradition. Through the ambiguous understanding of his unwelcoming classmates, he is victimized
to the extent that he feels both violated and humiliated, emphasised by the fact that he is unable to
express his feelings in English. These feelings result in him becoming increasingly insecure and
irritated as he has become confused and alienated. The rich vocabulary and literary techniques
enabled Simon s short storyto become more relatable to the audience by exploring the common
adolescent crisis of Being Different .
During Simon s first playground experience, he was bombarded with the unexpected questions of
students who seemed to want to befriend him. Beginning with innocent questions, Are you from
Japan? ... Are you from China? , quickly revolved into immature and offensive questions such as,

Although adderall is advantageous for individuals with the disorder, the drug is not recommended

Marketing Mix And Telephone Operator O2
Introduction There is no single indicator of performance but a variety of different measures
which provide an insight into a telephone operator s economic, social, managerial and consumer
perspectives. These may relate to price, quality, user choice or efficiency. A good performance
in one service does not allow one to predict a favourable performance in other aspects and no
operator can claim to be perfect in all of these respects. In a highly competitive business
environment like the telecommunications industry, subscriber based service models are
something of a mandate In markets like these, business successes can be validated by a very low

lives of America s people. Whether they encountered the events first hand in New York City, or
they simply watched the iconic World Trade Centerfall on television as the events unfolded, the
assaults of 9/11 have left a permanent stain on the lives of America s citizens. Individuals such as
my father, Kurt M. Thomas, have vivid recollections of exactly where they were on the day of the
attack. However, the retention of this event is not the only result of these events, for Dad s
experience as an American citizen who lived through the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is one
that reflects the pervasive apprehension that many Americans have towards the future of the United
States and its relations with counties of the Middle East as a result of the fear experienced that day.
His recollection expresses the nativist concern and fear for oneself and one s nation that many
Americans articulated throughout the course of history.
On the day of the attack, Dad said he experienced a fear that he had never quite experienced until
that point in his life. He retorted, Growing up, bomb threats were taken as joke. No one took them
seriously until after the attacks on September 11. The first memory that Dad had when I asked him

Banning of Sugary Drinks
Should the government be able to tell us the amount of sugary drinks we consume? In the recent
years obesity has become a national problem. Because of obesity, the current generation of
American children might be having a shorter life than their parents. Children learn about
acceptable behavior by observing and copying their parents, in this case the healthy way they eat
and drink. Existing factors said that the ones responsible for a big change were sugary drinks
causing us a drastic change in health. Sodas for example are cheap, especially if you buy them

income families. To emphasize sugary drinks mostly contain caffeine and chemicals in which harm
our body. This cause make the government concerned encouraging them to limit the amount

extreme actions to ban sugary drinks? Or Do we have the right to drink wherever we want and

Korean War And Modern Warfare
War was once fought with rocks, and other debris. This progressed to swords, axes, bows and
arrows... Then we had guns. The revolution of weaponry far beyond the expectations of what
anyone expected. Finally, war is now fought with robots, drones, and the human body is no longer
required, but only the mind. The physical challenge that a soldier has to undergo nowadays is
incomparable to the endless demands during the First and Second World War. Modern Warfare is
the new War metaphorically and literally, and seems to be a fashion that will persist. Then again
did all these transitions in the mode of warfare have any positive outcome? The lingering conflicts
on both that scale as well as on a domestic one, are still prevalent then and now. So what can
subsequently terminate all of the above? This develops into further questions as to whether the use

violence or are there other peaceful alternatives?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Creolisation in the Caribbean
Question #5: Why is the Creolisation theory considered a more useful means of theorizing the
Caribbean? How has Douglarisation contributed to the identity debate?
Even though there is a separation created by geographic distances and different independent states,
it is still possible to talk in general terms of the Caribbean, and of Caribbean literature. The common
experience of colonialism, displacement, slavery, indenture, emancipation and nationalism has
shaped most West Indian environments, creating a unity of experience that can be identified as

Many Caribbean writers have addressed the issue of creolisation and the creation of a unique
Caribbean identity in their works. Many of them wrote in an attempt to capture the very meaning
and significance of a West Indian world, using novels of childhood as their medium.Lamming s
In the Castle of My Skin, Michael Anthony s The Year in San Fernando, McDonald s The
Humming Bird Tree, Merle Hodge s Crick Crack Monkey and Jean Rhy s Wide Sargasso Sea were
all in part attempts at capturing and savouring something of the essence of Caribbean life through
the developing consciousness of the child. Somehow the discovery and identification with this
world seemed better and more accurately revealed through the impressions of the growing child.
V.S. Naipaul and Samuel Selvon assessed the merits of the creolisation of the East Indian in A
House for Mr. Biswas and A Brighter Sun respectively. In both novels exploration centered on the
creolisation of the East Indian and on the nature and quality of his adjustment in the colonial
society. Indian characters moved from enclosed peasant worlds into a wider colonial world, and the
movement was in both novels an exploration and a growth in awareness and sensibility.
This creolisation or mixing of cultures is evident

This shows that the Native Americans knew exactly how to survive the winter without the

shelter. I would first search for a suitable cave to live in. It would be easier than building a house

by first trading with the other natives and then helping each other. We could help each other by
hunting together, working together to find more efficient way of doing daily tasks. Once a trust
is formed between myself and other people we can live together and form a culture that can
sustain no only the winter but several winters in a row. The three things I would focus on if I
had to survive a winter in prehistoric Ohio is shelter, food and water, and forming a culture with
the other people around me. I believe if I could live in a cave, be able to grow and store crops,
hunt and fish efficiently, and eventually form a culture with others around me, I could survive a

Shahrazad as a Feminist
She, written by H Rider Haggard is a novel about two men Holly and his adoptive son, Leo who
set out to search for a mysterious queen named Ayesha who had killed her lover, Kallikrates. After
finding the queen, both of them hopelessly fall in love with her and remain in her control. Her
legendary beauty implies that no mancan look up upon her and keep his own self control. On the
other hand, Arabian Nights is about a collection of Arabic short stories told by a womannamed
Shahrazad to her lustful King. The King used to marry virgin women one every night and kill
them the day after because he was once cheated by his late wife. However, this series of killing
ends when he weds Shahrazad. Her generous nature to save other women in the kingdom is what
motivates her to pursue the marriage. The major themes from the two novels are heroism, courage
and ever present sense of danger. Ayesha and Shahrazad are two different women in different
situations. Both of these characters have shown the themes of female authority and feminine
behaviour in their own ways. Feminism can simply be explained as women being equals to men
when it comes to intelligence, competence, bravery and moral responsibility (Decter 45). Ayesha, a
terrifying and dominant figure, uses her beauty to seduce and have power over men, while
Shahrazad uses her intelligence by telling tales to teach the King lessons. In fact, most of female
characters in the tales told by Shahrazad to the King also represent

The Impact Of Volunteering
INTRODUCTION ATTENTION STATEMENT: Volunteering behaviour has been a powerful
driving force in the betterment of humanity, a key contributor to the solving of mankind s problems
(de Abreu, 2015). as stated in a scholarly article, Managing Volunteerism Behaviour. Volunteering
has been proven to be one of the most important things in our lives.
PERSONAL/AUDIENCE LINK: When our eldest deaf child was born 7 years ago, volunteering
has been our thing ever since, especially for the Deaf community. What a difference it has made for
us and the community. It helps create warmth and excitement to all of us.
THESIS STATEMENT: Don t you all love the affection in leading the others to feel inspired and
help grow their self esteems from volunteerism? In this speech, I will explain the definition,
benefits, and opportunities as volunteers.

BODY
MAIN POINT #1: Definition
Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.
(www.volunteeringaustralia.org, n.d.) .
Volunteering should not be used as profit, or be used to replace paid employees.
Activism can be considered volunteering. This definition is aligned to the current UN position on
volunteering... (www.volunteeringaustralia.org, n.d.) as stated in their website.
MAIN POINT #2: Benefits
We as volunteers will be assisting in finding ways for the organization to fulfill its mission. We all
get to learn new things everyday from volunteering.
Here are some examples of volunteering work I have done in the past.
I was a co chair for Rocky Mountain Deaf School building committee. Couple of volunteers and I
participated in a peaceful activism involving a property for the new school building. There was a
protest from the neighbors opposing the deaf school on the property. If our activism didn t happen,
we wouldn t build our school building on our current property

Aristotle Virtue Ethics
Virtue ethics is a theory used to make moral decisions. It does not rely on religion, society or
culture; it only depends on the individuals themselves. Since actions flow someone s character,
virtue ethics aspires to develop good people and good human communities. Virtue ethics is typically
associated with the Greeks and especially with Aristotle in the 4th century b.c.
Virtues ethics derives from Aristotle Nicomachean ethics which was named after his son
Nichomachus. Aristotle starts from actual moral judgements of human beings and says that by
comparing and contrasting we can come to the formulation of general principles. Living an ethical
life requires developing and demonstrating the virtues of compassion, wisdom, and temperance. It

For Plato a person s virtue consists in his knowledge of the good. It is not that a person has
knowledge about some things or just at certain times. They are just considered to be virtuous in
some aspects while being un virtuous in others. Someone with the knowledge of the good is able to
determine the good in all decisions and will be virtuous unconditionally. This also similar for
Aristotle, an individual must be thought of as either having virtue, or lacking it. Both Aristotle and
Plato believe that virtue must be obtained through practice and self control. Virtue is thought of as a
state or condition of the human

Stereotypes In Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window
Alfred Hitchcock s mystery film Rear Window based on the Cornell Woolrich short story
introduces the characters of L.B. Jeffries, and Lisa Freemont. L.B. Jeffries is an adventurous
photographer who takes action shots. Lisa Freemont is a high class woman who is a fashion
designer and very prim and proper. What Hitchcock shows in this film is that men and women
will take drastic measures to change when seeking approval from a love interest. Lisa s initial
beliefs are that she wants to get married to Jeffries and have him be a fashion photographer. When
Lisa tells Jeffries about her wanting him to photograph fashion he shoots that idea down without a
second thought. Lisa s beliefs change because when she comes to Jeffries house for the weekend

No Fault Divorce On Equal Footing
No fault divorce has allowed women and men (and more recently, same sex couples) the option to
end their marriage simply because they no longer want to be married. However, this presents new
legal questions which need to be answered. The courts must determine alimony, or spousal support.
After a marriage, one spouse might need to support the other based on length of the marriage,
difference in incomes or lost earning potential. However, determining a fair way to allocate alimony
is an important issues to ensure both partners come out of the marriage on equal footing.
Establishing new guidelines for alimony is critical to ensuring that there is equality at the end
of a marriage. Marriage in our country is changing along with our culture and society. Obergefell
v Hodges opened marriage to people of all sexual orientations, allowing all to marry who they
wish, regardless of sex. Additionally, the amount of people who are married is declining. In
2013, just half of American adults were married, compared to 72% in 1960 (Pew). Since our
society as a whole has been reconsidering marriage, we should also consider how marriages end
and what factors should be considered when distributing assets, alimony and child support. Right
now, trial courts are allowed discretion in determining alimony and the factors considered vary
wildly across all fifty states (Rhode 2014; 76 77). This means there is no guarantee for women or
men seeking support. This issue impacts women in particular,

Explain the mechanism referred to in the above statement...
Trade between advanced countries that are abundant in capital and skill and NIEs (Newly
Industrialising Economies) with their abundant supply of unskilled labour was raising the wages of
highly skilled workers and lowering the wages of less skilled workers in the skill and capital
abundant countries (Krugman, Obstfeld and Melitz). Explain the mechanism referred to in the
above statement using the Heckscher Ohlin model.
The Heckscher Ohlin model is extremely useful when illustrating how endowments of a particular
resource can influence trade between economies. The model shows us how comparative advantage
is explained somewhat by the relative abundance of certain resources, such as land, labour or
capital.
The Heckscher Ohlin (HO) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming the demand schedule is identical in both countries, then without trade, Foreign s own
market equilibrium is at 1 and Home s equilibrium for cars is at 2 . When the two countries trade,
the relative world price converges to a point somewhere in between these two points at 3 .
We can see from the above illustration that trade leads to a convergence of world prices at point 3.
The Foreign economy will therefore export the good that has seen an increase in its relative price.
Now that we have seen how prices change under the assumptions of the HO model, I will now
explain how these changes have an impact on the distribution of income in countries open to
trade. A rise in the prices of cars increases the purchasing power of skilled labour (the abundant
factor) in the foreign country in terms of both goods. At the same time it decreases the purchasing
power of unskilled labour (the scarce factor) in terms of both goods. So by opening up to trade,
the owners of the abundant factor become better off, whilst owners of the scarce factor become
worse off.
Theoretically, opening to trade should increase the consumption possibilities for the whole
economy, allowing everyone to gain a higher utility. So why do some people become worse off,
post trade under the HO model? The underlying issue is that trade only changes relative prices of
factors, which has a direct effect on the relative earnings of those

Paracetamol Solubility Research Paper
There are various factors relating to molecular structure that influence paracetamol solubility in
various co solvent systems. Dissolving a solute involves breaking intermolecular forces between
solvent molecules and forming intermolecular bonds between solvent and solute molecules. In part
this depends on the strength of solventintermolecular forces, which is reflected in the solvent s
viscosity. Of the co solvents, glycerol has the greatest viscosity and hence the strongest
intermolecular forces. Syrup is quite viscous, followed by propylene glycol then ethanol. This
would mean the ethanol would best be able to solvate paracetamol and mix with water, then
propylene glycol as shown in Figure 1, then syrup and finally glycerol. However from the results
obtained, glycerol is generally slightly better than syrup as a solvent for paracetamol. This may be
due to the cumulative effect of multiple hydroxyl groups present on each of the co solvent
molecules (see Appendix I).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of the co solvents have hydroxyl groups that allow them to hydrogen bond with water,
accounting for their miscibility with water. To some extent the hydroxyl groups also allow the
solvents to hydrogen bond with the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups of paracetamol (Appendix I).
Because of the stable hydrophobic aromatic ring in paracetamol, it would better dissolve in more
non polar solvents. Thus ethanol, with only one polar hydroxyl group, is the most effective
solvent. Propylene glycol has two hydroxyl groups and glycerol has three, slightly reducing each
solvent s ability to dissolve paracetamol. Sucrose (syrup) has eight hydroxyl groups which may
explain its minute effect on improving paracetamol

Confucianism Argument Analysis
What is the solution? A revolution of the middle class? Yes, but the middle class intelligentsia
would be too cowardly to go forth with it. They think they have a lot to lose. They have their
social status and mortgage to worry about. I can t blame them; most of them have worked hard
for it. But society can t continue the way it does. Since humans as they are today will not evolve
naturally before extinguishing themselves; a new man must be built! We must take evolution out
of the hands of Mother Nature and set it anew. Don t the elitists think as I do regarding this? How
could this go forth while the global elite are in control? Change starts in the mind. Free your mind

He didn t try to make himself into a religious figure or have his disciples do so. Confucianism is
an all encompassing humanism that neither denies nor slights heaven. Confucius said: The
disciples who received my instructions, and could themselves comprehend them, were seventy
seven individuals. They were all scholars of extraordinary ability. 72 of his students mastered
what he taught. Buddha who lived around the same time as Confucius however was made into a
religious figure the founder of Buddhism. Some brainy quotes by Confucius: Life is really
simple, but we insist on making it complicated. It does not matter how slowly you go as long as
you do not stop. Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. Our
greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. When it is obvious that the
goals cannot be reached, don t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps. The strength of a nation
derives from the integrity of the home. A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his
actions. Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire. Only the wisest and stupidest of
men never change. If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my

The Goal Is Clear And The Stakes Are High
THE REVERSE presents with an interesting idea. The goal is clear and the stakes are high.
The script is driven by solid themes about freedom, justice, and destiny. The tone is mainly dark
and it presents with as a very disturbing and violent story. While the concept feels thought
provoking, the overall script would benefit from more development. First, there s a solid inciting
event when Justin is fired and called a derogatory name. His decision to buy the plantation is the
catalyst that moves the story forward. His goal to reverse the power system, which he believes
is controlled and run by the White Man drives act two. However, there s a very awkward
transition in the structure. Justin buys the plantation and then suddenly he seems to go Rambo
and gets violent looking for Cash and Cocaine. This change in his behavior from a rather passive
man to a very violent man feels very jarring and inconsistent with the setup previously. In act two,
Justin enacts his plan to abduct certain people. However, the plan goes too well. There s no
conflict in his plan. Every person they decide to kidnap is easily abducted. Justin and his men are
never almost caught. The idea of Rachel, Justin s former girlfriend, being in charge of the
investigation is too much of a coincidence. It feels too contrived and this questions the credibility of
the plot. The third act feels too passive with the idea of the courtroom trial. The third act should
actually contain the strongest tension

about the world, so at 15 years old, James wanted to become a scuba diver, but where he lived
was no place for scuba diving, which disappointed him. However, his dad was an engineer and he

Ethical, Moral And Moral Theory
The ethical reflections taught in this course, have generated awareness in to our own ethical
reasoning allowing us to focus morality on our own lives. The ethical pluralism that is referred to
by the title of our text helps to examine the various aspects of our own ethical moral theory. Ethical
moral theory dominates our lives on a daily basis. Determining actions we consider being right or
wrong depending on the availability of the situation. But, as situations vary, so does the reasoning
behind activities. Although each individual has his/her own mindset and beliefs, the ethical moral
standards which create the baseline of our own morality, differs with our individual teachings.
The pluralistic approach conveyed through Hinman s text, describes various viewpoints of moral
theory. Although these theories change with the dependence of the individual, there are basic
principles that are accompanied by all. Many of these behaviors, although innocent at times, may
have lasting effects on the moral righteousness in our culture. In culture, there are regular questions
focusing the topic of judgement with ethical relativism, as discussed in Hinman s text.
Judgement according to the Webster s Dictionary is the ability to make considered decisions or
come to sensible conclusions. For the application of our own reflection, this definition will work.
The theory of ethical relativism illustrates judgement of our own ethical or moral values may be
judged by others who differ in

Social Impact Of The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange, derived from the voyages of Columbus to the Americas, was a chapter
in history that connected the Old World to the New World by exchanging crops, culture, and
technology. The Columbian Exchange in the Western Hemisphere resulted in extensive
demographic, social, economic, and environmental changes. The arrival of Europeans to Native
American land produced an intense mixture of culture and population fluctuation. Not only did this
exchange affect the social aspect between the two nations, it changed the way people engaged in
trade and proprietary interests, which would lead to a massive destruction and transformation of the
environment. When connecting the two worlds, Columbus also unintentionally connected two...

Comparing the two populations at 1800, it is shown that Native American numbers have sharply
declined while European numbers have exploded since the landing of Columbus. Still to this day,
Native Americans represent a very small percentage of the diversity in America. With the
introduction of new resources found desirable in the new environment by the colonists and new
products imported from Europe, Native Americans were launched into a brand new world of
commerce to keep up with the quick pace of the developments. The Europeans valued the fur of
buffaloes while Native Americans soon became dependent on the manufactured goods the fur trade
brought them, and hunted to the meet the demands...rather than the needs of their families (Page
15). Moreover, Native Americans previously used animals in religious rituals, but after European
contact, animals became regarded as a form of property and crucial components of Navajo and
Pueblo economy (Page 13). Accordingly, Native Americans engaged in trade with Europeans way
more than they had with each other before the arrival, boosting the rate of economic activity in the
New World. Adding on, many colonists emigrated to America in order to gain economic freedom
which came with owning property. However, Indian peoples generally regarded land as something
to be shared and utilized...They soon learned that

Anthem Racism Essay
Are all of the different types of national anthem protest in the NFL equally effective at protesting
racial injustices in the US, or are they all just being disrespectful to the flag and the country? There
are many ways players and teams are protesting the National Anthem in the NFL today. The Seattle
Seahawks locked arms and stood, the Pittsburgh Steelersdidn t even come onto the field, and the
Arizona Cardinals were allowed to do whatever they felt was right. All of these teams claimed that
they were demonstrating unity and standing up for racial equality. The most effective way was
demonstrated by the Seahawks because they displayed their stance on racial injustices in the most
professional way. And while it is clear that these protests have made an uproar in the NFL
community, it is not clear on how effective all the different types of protests are.
This is not the first time professional athletes have protested racial injustices in front of the entire
nation to see. During the 1968 Olympics runners Tommie Smith and John Carlos held a fist in the
air while wearing beads and cloth for shoes to protest the lynching and poverty of African
Americans. And in 1996, Mahmoud Abdul Rauf, a point guard in the NBA, was suspended a
game for sitting during the National Anthem. His reason for sitting was that it was against his
religion. He was scrutinized for this and after his contract was up he never played in the NBA
again, and this was during the prime of his career. During the

Sacajawea
Sacajawea is one of the most known American Indian women. Her voyage with explorers Lewis
and Clark was legendary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the
Lemhi Shoshone tribe. America was only 12 years old at this time and the territory ended at the
Mississippi river. One year after the United States doubled its territory with the Louisiana Purchase,
the Lewis and Clark expedition leaves St. Louis, Missouri, on a mission to explore the Northwest
from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean (History). Even before the purchase was finished,
President Thomas Jefferson sent his private secretary Meriwether Lewis and army captain William

On August 12th, 1805 the group came upon a Shoshone tribe that happened to be led by
Sacajawea s brother. There they bought horses from the Shoshone people to complete the rest of
their journey. With Sacajawea in the group, they appeared peaceful when they came across other
American Indian tribes because a man coming for a battle would not bring a woman and a baby.
According to Clark s journal, the group reached the Pacific Ocean on November 4th, 1805. After
reaching the Pacific coast in November 1805, Sacagawea was allowed to cast her vote along with
the other members of the expedition for where they would build a fort to stay for the winter. They
built Fort Clatsop near present day Astoria, Oregon, and they remained there until March of the
following year. Sacagawea, her husband, and her son remained with the expedition on the return

Now Government of Malaysia plans to have a telephony penetration rate of 50% for the whole
country and 25% for the rural areas by year 2020 (State of Hawaii Government, 2002). Scrutinizing
the background of Malaysian telecommunication sector, competition can be seen as main factor by
the telecommunication service provider companies. Companies like Sapura Digital Sdn. Bhd.,
Celcom and Mobikom Berhad have gone through a market evaluation stating the fact that their
companies either should be merged with giant and more competitive companies or to be gone

Transatlantic Slave Trade Research Paper Later the Dutch, English and French merchants controlled about half of the transatlantic slave trade in the regions of West Africa between the Senegal and Niger Rivers. The European sailors establish a system of navigation that bound Europe, Africa, and the Americas for a network of commerce. The transatlantic slave trade was based on kidnapping and abduction as a major method of slave acquisition and it was also used as a system of great opportunity to hold wealth, political and economic control. Many of the enslave Africans went through a lot of horrors and inhumane treatment during the middle passage in which they were sold for very low prices. • 4. The New York City As A Major Obstacle For Receiving... Introduction New York City is composed of some of the world s most unique and eccentric neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French, Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American, Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in Bushwick and Williamsburg are of foreign descent, it is only feasible to hypothesize that language barriers pose as a major obstacle for receiving quality health care. Many of the residents may not know how to read and understand English, therefore, leading to compromised delivery of care. Another justification for the residents of Community Board 1 and 4 to not obtain quality care is because of economic conditions. Individuals living in Bushwick are known to have a lower median household income when compared to Brooklynas a whole: the difference being $9,000 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Epidemiological Studies Essay One of the most useful outcomes of studying epidemiology is learning how to evaluate critically the scientific literature (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Critical assessment of this literature is an important skill for public health professionals because the findings of epidemiologic research inform so many activities (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). Munnoch et al. (2008) done epidemiological studies on S.Saintpaul infection occurred in Australia during October 2006 and found that cantaloupe production and processing practices pose a potential public health threat requiring regulatory and community education interventions. Based on main journal article written upon this subject, this article will analyse how epidemiological research has helped us... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Munnoch et al.2008 the objective of study was cleared that consumption of cantaloupe was directly linked to the infection and hypothesis study done was relevant because it states that cantaloupe was consumed more frequently by cases than expected when compared with the food consumption data for controls from an Australian Campylobacter case control study. So study identified a strong epidemiological association between S.Saintapaul infection and consumption of cantaloupe, with cases being 23 times more likely to have consumed cantaloupe in the 4 days prior to onset of illness than controls. As there were so many people involved in the research so study done was observational study, as no action was taken to change the health outcome people were simply observed (Webb Bain, 2011). The study design used to measure in terms of hypothesis generation method and observational study was useful. STUDY PARAMETERS Research exposure Observational study design examined on the basis of exposure and health outcome. The exposure of interest is the factor that either causes, Prevents, or treats the outcome. It is important to consider whether the exposure was accurately defined and measured because exposure misclassification stems from broad definitions and inaccurate measurements. (Aschengrau Seage, 2008). According to Munnoch et al. (2008), study conducted to investigate the S.Saintapaul infection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1994, the Anacostia River was fourth on the list of American Rivers Most Endangered Rivers (Rynor). Since the late 19 th century the water quality in this river has slowly declined with the onset of urbanization and industrialization and the pollution that accompanies this growth. The Anacostia is severely polluted with sediment, nutrients, pathogens, toxins, and trash( Cleaning ). One resident of Anacostia said he has seen used hypodermic needles washing up along the shoreline and ducks so thick on the water that it looked as if he could walk across their backs to the other side (Lee). The ducks he describes have died as a result of the extreme pollution. This description shows the dangerous effects of the pollution and the fact that it is killing the river s wildlife as well as endangering residents. It is unsafe for residents of the area to swim or fish in the river because of its extreme pollution and health risks. Recently, there have been signs posted along the river which warn residents of the hazardous waters. However, for many years the pollution of the Anacostia River was Washington s dirty little secret (Cohn, Warnings ) and there were no signs warning people of the pollution. 5. The fact that the Anacostia River is Washington s dirty little secret reflects the attitude of the rest of the city towards Anacostia. A great majority of the District prefers to ignore the underlying problems faced by Anacostia; this ignorance is reflected in the condition of the river running through its demolished communities. • 11. The Historical Voices Of Opera The Historical Voices of Opera: From 1500 century to new Milieumn For over thousands of years, Opera has become one of the greatest musical forms. By early 1600 s, Opera has made a major expansion all over Europe. Many singers were very skillful and challenged of any vocal genre. Also, by this time the audience didn t just come and see actors /actress play theatrical roles, they wanted to hear the sweet sound of the leading voices. Mostly, the high vocal range parts stole the show. Between 1590 to 1900, the Castrati (male sopranos) played the leading roles as the heroines, hero and villains, but it will take decades for women to arise from the religious and political views which caused restriction on all opera houses to ban all women to participate on stage. Like women, soon the rise for the castrate singers will decline and restrictions to participate on stage will come into effect. There are four similarities between both sexes that causes a rise and fall effect in the operatic form. First similarity is the history of the opera. According to John Brister, before the existence of opera, each nationality has used boys, falsettos, or eunuchs as singers to entertain and worship. Even though their voices admired by a historical point of view, the falsetto and the eunuch didn t have appropriate signature or sound to continue. Eventually, the Spanish and Roman church used castrati s in 1577 1578. They carried a lighter tone similar to a woman s voice. Nonetheless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This place had a family living on it who were very hard workers, but they also were very poor. There was a middle aged man and women living on this farm. Along with them they had a son. The father and his son would get up just before the crack of dawn and would work until lunch and then keep working until dusk. For all this hard work they made very little money. The familycould not afford an education for their son, so the motherhome schooled the boy at night so he could work in the fields during the day. The boy and his father would go into town every week to get much needed groceries for themselves. They would get a lift from a local friend who knew the family very well. When they went into town, which only had a population of about 250 people, the boy would look in amazement at how many people could fit into one place. The one thing that the boy took notice to were the posters placed all over the place. Here, there, everywhere, were posters of the famous Bolivian Formula Onedriver who had grown up with nothing and is now living and racing on a grand scale, and is leading for the Formula One drivers championship. The poster next to him said Karting Jr. race league! First race next Saturday! $30 dollars to join. The boy asked his father if he could join but his father said, No, we can t afford it. Microorganisms need to be classified, and identified in order to distinguish one species from another. Identification can isolate organisms that are disease agents, and enable physicians to make diagnosis s. It also enables physicians to choose the best treatment/antibiotics to address that specific organism. For example, some gram negative bacteriacan produce endotoxins when they die, which would be of concern to a doctor prescribing antibiotics. This technique identifies differences in a bacteria s cell wall. It utilizes crystal violet (primary stain), Gram s iodine (mordant), and safranin (counterstain). Most bacteria fall into two categories, Gram positive or gram negative. Gram positive bacteria have a thick layer of peptidoglycan, and techoic acids in their cell walls. This thick peptidoglycan layer retains the crystal violet stain, and displays the cells as a purple color under the microscope. Gram negative bacteria cell walls have significant differences from gram positive bacteria. Gram negative cells have a thin peptidoglycan layer, and do not have techie acids. They also have an outer membrane that is similar to the phospholipid bilayer of a cell membrance. These differences allow the crystal violet stain to rinse away from them, then they retain the safranin stain and appear reddish/pink under the microscope. Although it is very useful, it is not the only tooled needed to identify a bacteria. Some bacteria, are gram variable, displaying both positive and negative reactions. Other bacteria, such as Mycoplasmas, do not have a cell wall, rendering this test ineffective. Finally, it does not provide enough information alone to identify a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Explication Of The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe Holly Hecox Perdue English Composition II 28 February 2016 Explication: The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Through the use of an un named narrator in his poem entitled The Raven , Poe darkly conveys feeling understood by many: hopelessness, lost love, and death. The poem follows the un named narrator, as he reflects on, as well as struggles with, the realization of his lost love, Lenore. Like many, he tries to detract his overwhelming feelings for Lenore by investing his time in studying books. Despite his greatest efforts, he is unsuccessful. Much to his surprise, his solitude is interrupted by an unanticipated visitor. Throughout the poem, Poe uses imagery, tone, symbolism, and rhyme as a means of conveying his overall themes of undying devotion and lingering grief. Around midnight on a bleak December night, a weak and weary man is reading while nearly napping . He reads as a means of nullifying the sorrow he feels for the lost Lenore . Suddenly, he is jolted alert by some visitor tapping at his chamber door. The lonely man tells himself Tis some visitor and nothing more , but as he widely opens his chamber door, he finds darkness there and nothing more . Staring into the darkness, the narrator dreams about the impossibilities of his lost love, and even whispers her name; Lenore . Upon returning to his chamber, a stronger tapping, at the window, is catching his attention. Courageously exploring the noise, he is amused and relieved when a raven flies in from ... The uniqueness and complexity of David Foster Wallace s writing earned him a spot among the most influential contemporary authors of his generation. He is most well known for his immense, thousand page novel Infinite Jest, published in 1996, which grabbed the attention of readers worldwide (Ericson). In addition, throughout his career, he published several other novels, short stories, and nonfiction articles. His most popular works include The Broom of the System, Girl with Curious Hair, Consider the Lobster and Other Essays, and The Pale King (Ericson). Wallace is known for the stylistic devices of footnotes, endnotes, abbreviations, and specialized jargon, and the literary techniques of metafiction, hyperreality, irony, and fragmentation (Ericson). Thematically, he focused on finding truth in a society where pop culture, entertainment, and technology have redefined humanity (Ericson). Although Wallace s writing appears during the postmodern era, critics disagree over whether his work fits with this movement. Many writers refer to Wallace as reviving or re defining postmodernism, calling him a post postmodernist; however, this categorization is ambiguous. The history of the second amendment and the laws that have come after are significant, dating back to 1971, when the Bill of Rights was ratified to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights is a list of amendments that gives rights to individuals and limits government power. The second amendment states A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. So, the original writing and intent of the second amendment was geared to militia and military only, and it did not address a specific type of weapon. The second amendments intent for individual Americans did not come into question until 1822. A Kentucky court case indicted a man for carrying a sword concealed in a cane. The man was fined $100.00. Because of obesity, the current generation of American children might be having a shorter life than their parents. Somehow the discovery and identification with this world seemed better and more accurately revealed through the impressions of the growing child. V.S. No Fault Divorce On Equal Footing No fault divorce has allowed women and men (and more recently, same sex couples) the option to end their marriage simply because they no longer want to be married. However, this presents new legal questions which need to be answered. The courts must determine alimony, or spousal support. After a marriage, one spouse might need to support the other based on length of the marriage, difference in incomes or lost earning potential. However, determining a fair way to allocate alimony is an important issues to ensure both partners come out of the marriage on equal footing. Establishing new guidelines for alimony is critical to ensuring that there is equality at the end of a marriage. Marriage in our country is changing along with our culture and society. Obergefell v Hodges opened marriage to people of all sexual orientations, allowing all to marry who they wish, regardless of sex. Additionally, the amount of people who are married is declining. In 2013, just half of American adults were married, compared to 72% in 1960 (Pew). Since our society as a whole has been reconsidering marriage, we should also consider how marriages end and what factors should be considered when distributing assets, alimony and child support. Right now, trial courts are allowed discretion in determining alimony and the factors considered vary wildly across all fifty states (Rhode 2014; 76 77). Trade between advanced countries that are abundant in capital and skill and NIEs (Newly Industrialising Economies) with their abundant supply of unskilled labour was raising the wages of highly skilled workers and lowering the wages of less skilled workers in the skill and capital abundant countries (Krugman, Obstfeld and Melitz). Explain the mechanism referred to in the above statement using the Heckscher Ohlin model. The Heckscher Ohlin model is extremely useful when illustrating how endowments of a particular resource can influence trade between economies. The model shows us how comparative advantage is explained somewhat by the relative abundance of certain resources, such as land, labour or capital. The Heckscher Ohlin (HO) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assuming the demand schedule is identical in both countries, then without trade, Foreign s own market equilibrium is at 1 and Home s equilibrium for cars is at 2 . When the two countries trade, the relative world price converges to a point somewhere in between these two points at 3 . We can see from the above illustration that trade leads to a convergence of world prices at point 3. The Foreign economy will therefore export the good that has seen an increase in its relative price. Now that we have seen how prices change under the assumptions of the HO model, I will now explain how these changes have an impact on the distribution of income in countries open to trade. A rise in the prices of cars increases the purchasing power of skilled labour (the abundant factor) in the foreign country in terms of both goods. At the same time it decreases the purchasing power of unskilled labour (the scarce factor) in terms of both goods. So by opening up to trade, the owners of the abundant factor become better off, whilst owners of the scarce factor become worse off. Theoretically, opening to trade should increase the consumption possibilities for the whole economy, allowing everyone to gain a higher utility. So why do some people become worse off, post trade under the HO model? The underlying issue is that trade only changes relative prices of factors, which has a direct effect on the relative earnings of those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Paracetamol Solubility Research Paper There are various factors relating to molecular structure that influence paracetamol solubility in various co solvent systems. Dissolving a solute involves breaking intermolecular forces between solvent molecules and forming intermolecular bonds between solvent and solute molecules. In part this depends on the strength of solventintermolecular forces, which is reflected in the solvent s viscosity. Of the co solvents, glycerol has the greatest viscosity and hence the strongest intermolecular forces. Syrup is quite viscous, followed by propylene glycol then ethanol. This would mean the ethanol would best be able to solvate paracetamol and mix with water, then propylene glycol as shown in Figure 1, then syrup and finally glycerol. However from the results obtained, glycerol is generally slightly better than syrup as a solvent for paracetamol. This may be due to the cumulative effect of multiple hydroxyl groups present on each of the co solvent molecules (see Appendix I).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each of the co solvents have hydroxyl groups that allow them to hydrogen bond with water, accounting for their miscibility with water. To some extent the hydroxyl groups also allow the solvents to hydrogen bond with the carbonyl and hydroxyl groups of paracetamol (Appendix I). Because of the stable hydrophobic aromatic ring in paracetamol, it would better dissolve in more non polar solvents. Thus ethanol, with only one polar hydroxyl group, is the most effective solvent. Propylene glycol has two hydroxyl groups and glycerol has three, slightly reducing each solvent s ability to dissolve paracetamol.
