What Does The Pear Tree Symbolize In Their Eyes Were...
In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston, the use of symbols helps
the reader understand Janie. At the earliest moments in the book, symbols are used to describe how
Janie feels and what her emotions are like without addressing them. From the time she experiences
what love feels like, Janie tries to find it throughout the books. The pear tree is used throughout the
novel, from the time of Janie s time as a teenager till the end of her relationship with Tea Cake. It has
numerous appearances that at the end connect and help the reader understand Janie s venture to find
love. Hurston uses the pear tree to show the development of Janie s fantasy of love and her search for
it in the novel.

When meeting Joe Starks and running off to marry him, she has thoughts about how he is going to be
the bee for her bloom (32). Janie believes that Joe will be someone who is going to open up the
feelings from the experience with the pear tree in her, like how the bees pollinate the flowers of the
tree. As the dust baring bee sinks into the sanctum of a bloom , it created a feeling of love and respect
for each part (11). Moreover, since bees have a very important relationship with flowers, like the ones
on the pear tree, and their process of blooming, Janie feels that the marriage will be strong. Joe, in
addition, promises Janie she will be living at a high standard, things Logan was unable to give her.
However, she later realizes she has made another mistake with this marriage, leaving her to imagine
the shadow of herself going about tending the store and prostrating itself before Jody, while all the
time she herself sat under a shady tree with the wind blowing through her hair and her clothes.
Somebody near about making summertime out of lonesomeness. (77). The reader can easily see the
disconnect between Janie s current life and the life she wants to live. For her dream to be a reality , she
needs to escape her real life in order to do so, which she sees as a lonesome task. When comparing it
to the interaction between bees and flowers, it is nothing

The Importance Of Safeguarding And Protection Of Children
There are a number of different agencies which may be involved when working in the context of
safeguarding and protection of children and it is vital that these agencies communicate and work in
partnership. Each professional working with children has to respect the others areas of expertise and
support others work as everybody is making a valuable contribution to the pupils development. To
make sure that these professionals and agencies work together effectively in order to safeguard
children, section 10 of the Children Act 2004 places the duty on local authorities to make
arrangements to promote cooperation to improve the wellbeing of all children in the authority s area.

Children are best protected when professionals know what is required of them and how each
organisations and professionals within those organisations work together. All adults and professionals
that work with have a responsibility for keeping them safe. This involves identifying concerns, sharing
information and taking prompt action. In order to do this in an effective way; professionals need to
work in partnership with each other. Individual children, especially some of the most vulnerable
children and those at greatest risk of harm and social exclusion, will need to coordinate help from
health, education, early years, children s social care, and the voluntary sector and other agencies,
including youth justice services. To provide adequate safeguarding measures it helps to have a
complete picture of the child. To work in partnership means that each professional and agency work
together with the other agencies in contact with a child that they have safeguarding and welfare
concerns about. The different professionals and organisations working with that child may have one
snapshot and a concern that may, on its own, not necessary need intervention. When partnership
working is effect a bigger picture evolves as a result of information sharing. If each profession has a
different concern, this can lead to the

Sage In Ojibwe Essay
Sage has been a part of Ojibwe culture for thousands of years. Sage is one the four main medicines in
Ojibwe culture along with tobacco, cedar, and sweet grass. In most Ojibwe ceremonies, sage is used in
the beginning of the ceremony to smudge the people attending the ceremony. When sage is burned, the
smoke is used to cleanse the body and mind. For the hands, the sage cleanses what is touched. Sage
cleanses the ears so we can hear all things in a good way. It cleanses out the mind so we can think
good things with nothing negative. Traditionally, sage is used for headaches and helps with allergies.
Sage can also be mixed with other medicines into teas to help with indigestion, menstrual cycle
ailments, sore throats, boasts the immune system, and help with skin conditions. The genus name of
sage is Salvia. Sage is the largest member of the mint family containing over 900 species. There are
more uses of Sage rather than how it was used for traditional purposes and traditional healings. When
the oils of Sage is extracted, that oil can help with the nervous system, heart and blood circulation, and

An example of those are carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid and caffeic acid, possessing strong antioxidant,

plays a central role in the biochemistry of the Lamiaceae plants, and occurs mainly in a dimer form as
rosmarinic acid. Carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid, which are present at high concentrations in the
extract of Sage plants, have shown strong antioxidant properties. Ursolic acid, also a component of
sage, has strong anti inflammatory properties, and in sage preparations, it is considered as a quality
control measurement for the anti inflammatory effects of different

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Grid Computing
This paper gives an overview about Grid Computing and the various key issues related to that.Today
we are in the Internet world and everyone prefers to get fast access to the Internet. The growth of the
internet with various resources and high speed networks changes the society enormously. We can
improve the speed of the computer using Grid. This paper presents clearly the vision of the grid
computing and the architecture of grid computing. The advantages and the disadvantages of the grid
computing has also been discussed.
1.Introduction

The main services provided through utility grids are software and special equipments. For instance,
the applications can be run on one machine and all the users can send their data to be processed to that

of services ,reliability and enough usability1.
III. Advantages and Disadvantages
There is no need to have large number of SMP servers. It efficiently uses the idle resources. If there is
any failure in one grid ,the grid environment automatically uses the other resources. Easy to scalable.
Jobs can be executed in parallel and increase the speed of the computation. Grid computing consists of
some disadvantages too. Some applications need to be modified in order to use this application in grid
computing. The applications which are not designed to use an MPI (Message Passing Interface) will
have to revert to an SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing). Grid computing requires an advanced
infrastructure like small servers, fast connections between the servers and the use of quality tools,
software and skilled technicians to manage the grid. This grid computing is also costly and security

The following paper discusses the book When Two Loves Collide (Borchert, 2013). The book is an
autobiography about the life of Dr. John Mooney centered on his journey into and away from
addiction. The paper will discuss the emotional, spiritual, physical, and social impact of the addiction
on John and from the view of a therapist in today s society. In addition, the paper will discuss the road

Mooney was beginning to have difficulties controlling his addiction at work, which was the other
most important part of his life. He began to feel fear over not being able to function at work, which
was where he derived his self confidence and self worth. He first sought treatment to gain
understanding, because he felt that if he could understand it, then he would be able to control it.
When this did not work, he went home and continued to drink and use drugs at an increasing rate.
Eventually people at work begin to notice that he smelled of alcohol while performing surgery. He
also began using his prescription pad to prescribe himself medication. His addiction eventually came
to the attention of the law and he was sent to prison. During this time he was forced to stay sober. He
spent one year in prison without drugs or alcohol. However, the day he got out, on his way home, he
stopped immediately at a liquor store. Dr. Mooney loved his family, his work gave him purpose, and
yet the addiction had taken control of his impulses, of his decision making process, of his time, his
emotions, and his body. Dr. Mooney spent almost two decades suffering from the addiction. His
addiction did not allow him to take a mistress. Over the course of two decades, he visited several
rehabs and treatment facilities. For Dr. Mooney, it began to appear like there was no way out of the

The Issue of Climate Change
According to Johnson (2010), the issue of climate change has been hotly debated from two main
viewpoints: that global warming has resulted from human activity on the one hand; and that it is a
myth resulting from flawed research and unverified scientific findings. Those who hold the former
view accuse those of the latter persuasion that they are concerned more with perpetuating the fossil
fuel industry than creating a safe environment for future human generations. The other side, in turn,
are of the opinion that the public is far too susceptible to believe whatever they are told as soon as the
scientific label is placed on it. Because of these two widely divergent opinions, the issue has been
shrouded in uncertainty for many, with a third group believing that global warming does exist, but that
human activity is not necessarily the main culprit. This opinion holds that natural events such as
volcanic activity creates far more heat and greenhouse effects than human activity could hope to
achieve. Hence, this group holds that there is little that can be done about what is essentially a natural
process. In my view, global warming is an issue that should be taken seriously. When considering the
way in which politicians and those in power abuse their resources for their own personal gain, I am
rather inclined to believe the group accusing them of creating the myth idea deliberately to perpetuate
an industry that has paid them well. Indeed, if I myself were a person of power

The Importance Of The First Earthquake In Canada
Currently, the prediction of the Big One is causing a lot of disturbance and fear among people who
lived along the coastline of British Columbia. The Big One stands for a Cascadia Megathrust
earthquake with magnitude around 9 and it has at least twelve percent probability of hitting Vancouver
within the next fifty years ( ). The validity of this prediction has been questioned by many, however,
scientific explanation has proven that the Big One will happen in the future sooner or later. British
Columbia has the highest earthquake risk in Canada; several thousand small earthquakes are recorded
in B.C. every year. Therefore, the Big One is going to happen, and it will cause different scales of
damage such as geological and economical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, District of North Vancouver has released the results of a detailed five year study that models
a shallow 7.3 magnitude earthquake, with epicentre in the Strait of Georgia, risk in the municipality.
Although this might not be the worst case scenario,it still provides useful information in terms of
determining the vulnerability of North Vancouver facing an earthquake. The bright side of the
evaluation is that majority of people live in wood frame houses, which are inherently better able to
withstand earthquake damage and most are built on stable, solid ground. That would be especially
important if an earthquake struck at night, when most people are home. The dark side is that areas
likely to be most impacted by ground shaking and soil failure in an earthquake, especially buildings in
several low lying waterfront areas would likely be topple as sandy soils were subject to liquefaction
just like the below figure has shown where the red parts indicate areas near the shore or the waterfront
is facing structural failure and danger of collapse. Looking to the upper regions, it is shown in this
scenario that these areas would receive no significant structural damage when experienced a 7.3
magnitude earthquake. In general, North Vancouver is less dangerous under the condition

Comparsion Of Iago And Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
While reading the play, Othello, by Shakespeare, you might ask yourself this question; What s the
difference between Iago and Othello? Othello and Iago are very different from each other. Not only in
their colours, but in their personality. However, it may be said that the two share one common flaw,
their tendency to misjudge others. This common flaw was the cause of their downfall. Iago was
consumed by his desire to get revenge on Othello to the extent of putting his plan into action. Othello
s love and possessiveness over Desdemona overtakes him to the point where he would rather kill her
than grant anyone else the privilege to have her. In this manner, despite their differences, Othello and
Iago represent the same thing human emotion. Both characters can be viewed in this way throught the
play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, yes, that is true, but they are more alike than you would think. From the beginning of the
play to the end, one of the main focuses is on both character s insecurity. When Cassio received the
promotion Iago thought he was destined for, his insecurity grew. Othello s supposed favoring over
Cassio makes Iago hatch his master plan. Unlike Iago, Othello s insecurities are much more indirect,
not really making an appearance until Iago s plan follows through. His background, age, gained social
status, and the fact that someone such as Desdemona would have love for someone like him, a Moor ,
are the source of Othello s insecurity. These insecurities lead to much bigger and negative feeling,
jealousy. Iago is jealous of Cassio s position directing his hate towards Cassio and Othello. Othello s
jealousy of the apparent relationship between Cassio and Desdemona leads him to creating horrible
scenarios in his head, fueling his abusive actions towards

The Administration Of The U.s. Tax System
In 1990, the IRS commissioned a comprehensive nationwide survey of taxpayers to obtain their
overall perception of its administration of the U.S. tax system. NPM related questions from this survey
were re asked to taxpayers to determine any potential changes in response patterns (VanDenburgh
2004, 2). Several questions were re asked to allow for an assessment of differences between the 1990
responses and the 2004 responses during research by William M. VanDenburgh (2004).
The concept of logic of action, which derives from institutional theory, is valuable to understanding
why the IRS case is not aberrant and why there exists an implicit tension between merit ideals and the
performance paradigm (Thompson 2006, 498). Patterns of behavior derive from institutional rules that
create incentives to act in one way or another. They also derive from norms that have arisen over time
that govern what behaviors are considered appropriate. Important for the purpose of this argument is
the existence of an underlying logic according to which behavioral patterns, incentives, and norms are
interlocked (Thompson 2006, 498). Adoption of a new NPM requires an agency organizational
structure to become more competitive and business like. In other words, a private market focus is to be
incorporated in the organization. The IRS was heavily criticized because auditors forcefully went after
non filers when some IRS employees themselves were not filing tax returns (VanDenburgh 2004, 91).

A Good Idea For The Green Party
There is clear evidence that invasive species of plants and animals can cause grave consequences to
native organisms. Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with
several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it
comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental
friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that
this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live
organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In
Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the
movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his
readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and
Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant
earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and
water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). These worms are
causing the terraces to become porous and sponge like, which should never be terms used for a
terrace. Another example that Mann uses is, the golden apple snail (Pomacea canaliculata) which was

Music Education At A Young Age
Today, school districts have been devaluing the importance of music. School districts are forced to cut
spending on music education and replace it with other important classes, such as physical education.
Music classes were the first to be cut because given a small to budget elementary schools, school
officials have seen that music classes were unnecessary to education and believe that it has no benefit.
I disagree with this statement because I believe it is crucial to have music education at a young age.
Luckily, when I was in elementary school, there was still music education and has influenced me to
become a musician because music has helped me with school and work. Having music education
allows a child s brain to develop a fully active brain, since music functions the creative side of the
brain. However, studies have shown that music has helped with the left side of the brain as well,
allowing students to build thinking skills and raise test scores such as the SAT. Music training at a
young age helps develop the brain areas that involves language and reasoning. Studies have shown
that music training develops the left side of the brain, which helps processing language and help
recognize patterns and memorization. It is also shown that the left side of the brain is better developed
with music and that can help retain new information in young minds. A good example of how music
helps with new information is the alphabet. The alphabet was taught to kids as a song and

Osteosarcoma Case Studies
Osteosarcoma, deriving form primitive bone forming mesenchymal cells, is the most common primary
bone malignancy[1]. The incidence rates of osteosarcoma has a bimodal age distribution. It typically
occurs during adolescence and has the second peak in older adulthood[2]. There is variability in
location between age groups, but usually the osteosarcoma occurs most frequently in long bones. The
etiology of osteosarcoma is currently being studied but still not well understood[3]. Several studies
showed that age, gender and height are risk factors for osteosarcoma[4]. The overall survival (OS) of
osteosarcoma has been improved significantly because of effective chemotherapy combination[5].
Studies showed that complete surgical resection with addition of chemotherapy has increased the 5
year OS to approximately 70%[5], but improvements in osteosarcoma survival during the last decade

Work Fulltime At An Active Air Force Base
I currently work fulltime at an active Air Force base in Madison, WI. It has an organizational culture
very different from that of most civilian employers; honoring thy basic tenets of Duty, Honor, and
Country. That being said, I work in a tightly organized establishment with strict standards in structure,
professionalism, and appearance. In general, the military emphasizes discipline and hierarchy, and
even has its own governing body of law (the Uniform Code of Military Justice). The group always
takes precedence over the individual and loyalties are developed to the specific branch one resides in.
Of the four major theories of organization discussed over the course of the semester, bureaucratic
formal organizational theory best describes the military and my organization. Plainly stated, the
military operates around specific goals and operations with several interrelated groups (subsystems)
governed by clearly defined and enforced rules and norms. While formal organizational theories may
seem dated, the military has strong roots in its development. German Sociologist Max Weber created a
bureaucratic model with five key components that strongly interrelates with military life and structure.
In fact, the military was his prototype. The first element of Weber s theory is that of labor division and
functional specialization, where he divides jobs into fixed categories based on competence and
functional specialization. In the military, you are placed into a specific

Why Potato Is Becoming The Most Important Crop
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the fourth highest produced crop in the world and the most
important non cereal food crop, with world production estimated to be over 350 million tons in 2013
(http://faostat.fao.org). Potato is a versatile crop, and is utilized as not only food and feed but also in
industrial materials and fuels (Kikuchi et al. 2015). Potato is becoming the most important crop in
developing countries and its production is expanding more rapidly than that of most other crops
primarily because of increasing industrialization (Guchi et al. 2015). Potatoes in India are grown
under varied climatic conditions ranging from tropics, subtropics to temperate highlands.
Consequently, the spectrum of insect pests and diseases is very large and limit potato production upto
85% depending upon the weather/region. Fungal disease plays a pivotal role for yield losses. Late
blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans (oomycete pathogen), is the most destructive disease of
potato worldwide (CIP, 1989). During the last two decades, disease has increased globally and the
average global crop loss of potato has increased upto 21.8% (Fry and Goodwin, 1997; James, 1981;
Forbes, 2012). Worldwide losses due to late blight are estimated to exceed $5 billion annually and thus
the pathogen is regarded as a threat to global food security (Latijnhouwers et al. 2004).
Management strategies consist either in exclusion, avoiding contact between plant and pathogens, or
by pest eradication, and

Puerto Rico has undergone a recent economic downturn. The most recent unemployment rate, from
December 2014, was 14.4%, which is down from 16% in 2013 but in the grand scheme it is not much
better. According to studies by the New Progressive Party the island should attain a (economic)
growth rate of 2.2 to 3.5% faster through statehood (Regis). Economic growth will affect population
directly because their standard of living will rise due to an average increase of income. It will also
provide them and their family with a greater number of job opportunities. Even though population will
now be subject to income taxes, Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi assures that increased
property values and economic growth will offset any kind of impact that federal income taxes could
have, ( Puerto Rico Could Change Congress If Made A State ). Income taxes will have an even
slighter affect because of the Earned Income Tax Credit. This rewards eligible low income families
with cash refunds and approximately two thirds of the population is already eligible ( Issue Briefing:

Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis
Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the
influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or
Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to
embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior
Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that India must achieve
Swaraj or self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors.
Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete control
over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization.
Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly,
industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and has
attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi differentiates
this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only promote bodily
happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to manually plow land, but
this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that a single man can plow
significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the machine s efficiency. By
contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the changes brought about by
civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy superfluities for the means of
physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and guides the pathway of Britain s goal to
convert the whole world into a vast market for their goods (37). Western civilization induces moral
weakness, allowing people to give in to their earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life
(31). The illusion of wealth as the means to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will
ultimately lead to its own destruction. Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of
Western civilization is a grossly incompetent model for India.

Application Room For Breast Imaging
When I entered the medical field over twenty years ago, at the front desk of the radiology department
were file cabinets which contained notecards listing the imaging studies performed on each patient. If
a patient had previous imaging, we would go to the film file room to retrieve the folder from the
rolling storage units. In these heavy folders, along with the films, is also where we would find the
typed reports associated with those old exams. After the radiologist compared new studies with the old
and dictated a report onto a small cassette tape, the transcriptionist would type the report from the
recording and a copy of the report stapled to the paper order for the exam performed was added to the
folder. Copies of the reports were filed in medical records and sent to the ordering provider. At the end
of each day, all film folders were returned to the file room for storage. In my current practice, imaging
orders are entered in the patient s electronic chart in the Epic computer system. When a patient arrives
for breast imaging, the relevant medical history is reviewed and updated in the Magview system.
Previous images are retrieved from PACS and the current digital study is compared on high resolution
computer monitors. With a few mouse clicks in Magview, the radiologist generates a report from the
patient history and current findings. Signing off with another click, the report is then immediately
added to the patient s chart and the ordering provider is notified of

most important Greek poem ever. Alongside the well known Iliad. Both are known as epic poems
which are passed down orally but are considered long narratives. Beowulf is the earliest of any epic
poem of that time period. Beowulf being the main character, travels from his home land to a foreign
country, where they have been ravaged by a monster named grendel. Which leads to another monster
which is Grendel s mother. The poem ends with Beowulf killing his last monster, a dragon. But the
reader is met with the question why did he do all of this? Beowulf s motivations in the epic poem
Beowulf are presented as his duty to do so, for the fame and glory, and to sacrifice himself for the
betterment of others.
In the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf s first motivation, that the reader is presented, is his anglo saxon
sense of duty. The anglo saxon code is a very large factor in this epic poem as it is what Beowulf lives
his life after. But Beowulf s sense of duty calls him to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reaching Out Without Dumbing Down
In an age when culture continues to lower standards of intellect, Marva Dawn makes compelling
observations and suggestions for the Church to rethink its strategy on impacting society. How do we
evangelize without weakening the message of what we are communicating? The majority of her text
focuses on the worship environment generally, but later she focuses on music, preaching, and liturgy
specifically. According to Dawn, a gathering of believers should emphasize God as the subject and
object of worship, challenge each individual to grow in godly character, and accentuate the
community of believers (not only in the room, but throughout history as well). Through this grid, she
encourages leaders and participants to evaluate each worship ... Show more content on

A weakness prevails in light of the previous strength. I believe Dawn over spiritualizes liturgy and
ritual in her attempt to challenge churches to keep their content sharp. Although she writes, traditional
styles can become as idolatrous as their contemporary counterparts (p. 96), her supporting material
does not admit inferiority in her high church worship preferences. In the scheme of redemptive
history, liturgies of the Lutheran church are relatively new. Why should we hold so tightly to creeds
and prayers and hymns that aren t a part of the Biblical canon? Just because they worked for a period
of a few hundred years does not guarantee that it will continue to be effective until the end of time.
Even though they are built on eternal truths, we cannot expect these liturgies to continually relate to an
ever changing culture. I agree that we must not dumb worship down, but perhaps this book could have
directed us to more timeless, ancient, biblical forms than merely ones from the last 500 years. Another
inadequacy in Dawn s work is her narrow view of musical value. Value is not always simple to access
as indicated in chapter eight (although I thoroughly concur with her standards, I did not find them all
encompassing). Dawn mentions that contemporary music is easier to perform because it is less
challenging from a

Essay On Canadian Unity
Canada Leads the World to Unity The world as humans know it is seldom at peace, and numerous
parties worldwide attempt to settle these conflicts in attempts to achieve global unity. In the past, there
have been multiple outbreaks of war, some examples being the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the
Afghanistan War. Canada plays a crucial role in aiding war struck nations, in efforts to mediate
conflicts and terminate war, ultimately achieving peace and concord. Significant Canadian efforts can
be seen played throughout the prolonging Vietnam War, lasting of the length of approximately twenty
years. One example of this is seen when Canada gave aid to the army of South Vietnam in order to

During one of the many encounters between the Capitalists and the Communists, Canadians were
successful in pushing back Chinese and North Korean troops further north of the Han River(put a
comma after Han river to say which country). Canadian troops were placed under intense fire, but in
the end, were capable of conquering Hill 619, where the Chinese were stationed. In result of this
conflict, Canadians obtained crucial information, helping South Korea develop tactics to win the war,
and achieve peace. Upon the seas, Canada dispatched multiple navy ships overseas, in order to help
with the everlasting war. Canadian ships were capable of sabotaging eight North Korean trains. This
cut off the supply of ammunition, food, and other supplies for the army, weakening their militia,
allowing easier defeat of the Communists. In terms of aerial combats, Canada as well deployed
multiple flights of aircraft into Korea, aiding both aerial combat, along with the transportation of
supplies to the South Korean military. Aerial contributions resulted in a massive success, with no loss
of any RCAF aircraft throughout the entire war. This was as well considered by Korea as an essential
role, as Canada supplied cargo and soldiers to keep the war going, successfully aiding the push back
of the Communists. Thus, it is evident

The Gulag
One day in the Life of Ivan Desinovich by Alex Solzhenitsyn, published in 1962 describes the Gulag
as a prison used by the Soviet government under Stalin to dehumanize it s prisoners. Despite being in
the Gulag, Alexander Solzhenitsyn manages to survive these experiences and describes them through
the use of Ivan and his fellow protagonists. Solzhenitsyn explores this topic by employing vivid
imagery while appealing to the Russian people with his symbolism and allegories. The combination of
themes and motifs communicate to the Russian people how a few prisoners managed to survive in
such a prison that was meant to take away their humanity and transform them into mindless slaves.

Prostate Cancer And Psa Testing
6.0 Understanding Prostate Cancer
6.1 A general discussion about prostate cancer in NZ
This cancer is unusual in that it takes a long time (15 20 years or more) to progress from a localised
state in the prostate to metastatic disease and death. Men whose cancer is in the localised state may
have no prostate symptoms, no bleeding or pain. The tumour is too small to cause obstruction or
LUTS (In older men coexisting BPH may cause LUTS, but there may be a cancer present too).
Research on the incidence of Prostate Cancer and PSA testing in NZ Māori has shown that although
Māori have a decreased incidence compared to all men, their mortality rate is higher, and there is a
reduced rate of PSA testing. Pacific men have the same incidence and mortality as all men.
A positive Family History of prostate cancer is significant, having a first degree relative (brother or
father) increases the risk by 2 2.5 times, if 2 or more the risk is increased by 5 11 times. There is a
genetic (hereditary disease) sub group that accounts for near 10% of cases, this is likely if three or
more relatives.
Prostate cancer occurs mainly in older men. Nearly two thirds are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older,
and it is rare before age 40. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67. Prostate cancer is the
second leading cause of cancer death in American men, behind only lung cancer. In New Zealand

Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a psychological disorder in which an individual s way of thinking
and way of relating to others is dysfunctional and destructive. People with antisocial personality
disorder usually have no regard for right and wrong and often disregard the rights and feelings of
others (Mayo Clinic 1). They tend to antagonize and manipulate others for pleasure or personal benefit
and often violate the law and end up in trouble most of the time, but show no remorse or regret for
their actions. Some examples of the type of people with this disorder can include serial killers and
politicians.
Antisocial Personality Disorder symptoms may begin in childhood and become fully evident for most
people during their 20s and 30s. In children, cruelty to animals, bullying behavior, social isolation, and
poor school performance may be early signs of the disorder. Most of the people diagnosed with
antisocial personality disorder show symptoms that violate the rights of others. The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) states all the possible symptoms of the disorder:
These individuals tend to fail to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors by
performing acts that result in arrest. They are also masters of deception because they lie repeatedly by
using aliases or by conning others for personal profit or pleasure. They rarely plan and act on impulse
when they perform their actions. They also become very irritable and aggressive,

The Importance Of Public Health
Public health is defined as the overall health of a population as whole that is often monitored and
regulated by the state. Public health regulations can affect the community in their work, homes, and
overall everyday life (What is Public Health?, 2017). This can include holding health fairs, ensuring
places of employment are up to code, and vaccinations of children and elders in the given community.
Those who work in the public health field actively works to ensure the health of the public is
maintained and held to a standard that allows people to effectively live within a given community.
Personal health is the regulation and overall health of an individual separate from the community in
which they live. This differs from public health because all though the personal health can affect the
assessment of public health, public health focuses on the entire community not isolating a single
person but using all the data collected from everyone to assess and develop ways to help the entire
population. Public health interventions and seminars will be based on the data collected for the
individuals because this is how the public health workers will be able to find out the challenges they
face and how to better serve the community. For example, if teen pregnancy is higher in a certain
neighborhood resulting in many teens dropping out of school the public health workers would respond
by giving out free contraceptives and providing parents agree they may also hold safe sex lectures.

Race, Ethnicity, And Gender
Race, ethnicity, and gender has been a significant topic discussed throughout many years. However, it
can has its negative cognectation because people feel superior to other people due to their race,
ethnicity, social class and gender. There are many philosophical theories that relate to these discussion
such as white gaze, one drop rule, and five faces of oppression. Moreover, these theories also applies
to my ethnicity which is Dominican. Even though race is not a real concept, due to the fact that is a
men made belief to categorize people based on their skin color, culture, and religion, it isolates people
into experiencing new things. Thorough history, we have seen how blacks have been treated due to
their skin color. Thus, when it sex, and gender, women are treated differently due to the idea that
women have to be protected and depend on a men to provide, shelter, and provide money. Takes away
the independence of a women, and not until recently, women are gaining their power and wellness. In
my opinion I believe white gaze is a common practice in America and it affects many people who are
not part of the white race . White race is looking at the world thought the eyes of white person. One
way this affects a nonwhite person is that they face racism, or stereotypes. I chose this idea because I
experienced white gaze here at Canisius College. Once, I was looking for a professor, However she
was not there but I left a message with another professor who was Caucasian.

Essay about The Chicago Fire Of 1871
The Chicago Fire of 1871
The summer of 1871 had been an unusually dry one in Chicago. Between
July and October, only 5 inches of rain fell. In addition to twenty seven fires in the first week of
October, on Saturday night, October 7, a blaze broke out in a planning mill on the West Side and
destroyed almost every building in a four block area before it was brought under control Sunday
morning. They lost a hose and other fire fighting equipment, including one of seventeen steam fire
engines and a hose cart. Nearly half of Chicago s 185 firemen fought this fire and many were on duty
all day, so they were already exhausted when the Great

this fire under control, but the wind had spread bits of buring debris. Several homes, one block north,
had caught on fire. The flames were so intense that one fireman s hat was warped and his clothing was
smoking.
The fire spread swiftly through Chicago. Frantic householders and businessmen whose building were
in the probable path of the fire, piled all their possessions in to the street. Both the west and south side
were cover in a blanket of smoke. As Thomas Byrne of Hose Elevator No.2 said, quot;you couldn t

rooster, a fire place mantle, a pack of playing cards, a stovepipe, an empty box, a feather duster, and a
wooden Indian.
Shortly before the court house burned down 100 prisoners were released. Most of the prisoners began
looting. When the Water Works was hit by the fire, many of the firemen went home. Finally around

wood remained smoldering. 90,000 people were left homeless and 300 people died. 2124 acres were

A Feather Dipped In Gold
On February 22, 1980, the United States men s national hockey team beat the Soviet Union National

considered by many to be the greatest moment in sports history. It was such an awe inspiring moment,
that it earned the nickname, The Miracle On Ice . As such, it should be no surprise that a movie
portraying that miracle was made. The movie, aptly called Miracle, chronicles the assembly of the

Impact Of Global Capitalism On The World Economy
Although there is no single theory to explain the spatial organisation of production regions in the
world economy, we continue to see core periphery patterns and concentrations of activities in specific
areas despite powerful forces of globalisation expanding markets and integrating economies. This has
created a huge globally expansive network of information, capital and technical flows across regions
facilitated through market liberalization, border reductions between countries and the erosion of
particular places. The presence of economies of scale, scope and agglomeration play significant roles
in explaining the concentration and development of economic activity in particular areas. These forces
of concentration and dispersal even in the context of the expanding territorial scope of global
capitalism, still remain powerful and we continue to observe the importance of place under
globalisation (Massey 1984). Although natural environmental conditions are influential in the
development of regions, capitalism is the dominant form of contemporary economic organisation due
to historical geography. Indeed, the capitalist word economy is structured around the dynamics of
specialisation and the division of labour, whereby countries produce and trade goods and services
where they obtain comparative, competitive advantage and lowest opportunity cost. In a capitalist
economy specialisation (the act of focusing on a specific work task) leads to higher productivity,
output and product

Latin American Imperialism
During the late nineteenth century, liberals hoped to establish Latin America on a global scale by
modeling Europe and the United States. As a result, certain Latin American countries were able to
modernize itself. They had metropolises, telephones, and railroads. Urbanization granted Latin
America the ability to export tons of sugar, coffee, rubber, bananas, tobacco, and other goods. Latin
America s massive export in goods during the 1880s led to what was known as the Great Export
Boom. This was the first time Latin America entered the global market; although this was a great
achievement, Latin American citizens were being exploited for their labor. As a result, exploitation of
Latin America established a new era referred as Neocolonialism. Today, it no longer had the
momentum to achieve economic prosperity as it once did before World War II; in addition, Latin
American countries are now classified as developing countries due to social and political conflict

Grid computing consists of some disadvantages too. Some applications need to be modified in order to use this application in grid computing. The applications which are not designed to use an MPI (Message Passing Interface) will have to revert to an SMP (Symmetric Multi Processing). Grid computing requires an advanced infrastructure like small servers, fast connections between the servers and the use of quality tools, software and skilled technicians to manage the grid. This grid computing is also costly and security issues also need to be ... Mooney was beginning to have difficulties controlling his addiction at work, which was the other most important part of his life. He began to feel fear over not being able to function at work, which was where he derived his self confidence and self worth. He first sought treatment to gain understanding, because he felt that if he could understand it, then he would be able to control it. When this did not work, he went home and continued to drink and use drugs at an increasing rate. Eventually people at work begin to notice that he smelled of alcohol while performing surgery. He also began using his prescription pad to prescribe himself medication. His addiction eventually came to the attention of the law and he was sent to prison. During this time he was forced to stay sober. He spent one year in prison without drugs or alcohol. However, the day he got out, on his way home, he stopped immediately at a liquor store. Dr. Mooney loved his family, his work gave him purpose, and yet the addiction had taken control of his impulses, of his decision making process, of his time, his emotions, and his body. Dr. Mooney spent almost two decades suffering from the addiction. His addiction did not allow him to take a mistress. Over the course of two decades, he visited several rehabs and treatment facilities. For Dr. Mooney, it began to appear like there was no way out of the addiction, only ... • 7. The Issue of Climate Change According to Johnson (2010), the issue of climate change has been hotly debated from two main viewpoints: that global warming has resulted from human activity on the one hand; and that it is a myth resulting from flawed research and unverified scientific findings. Those who hold the former view accuse those of the latter persuasion that they are concerned more with perpetuating the fossil fuel industry than creating a safe environment for future human generations. The other side, in turn, are of the opinion that the public is far too susceptible to believe whatever they are told as soon as the scientific label is placed on it. Because of these two widely divergent opinions, the issue has been shrouded in uncertainty for many, with a third group believing that global warming does exist, but that human activity is not necessarily the main culprit. This opinion holds that natural events such as volcanic activity creates far more heat and greenhouse effects than human activity could hope to achieve. Hence, this group holds that there is little that can be done about what is essentially a natural process. In my view, global warming is an issue that should be taken seriously. When considering the way in which politicians and those in power abuse their resources for their own personal gain, I am rather inclined to believe the group accusing them of creating the myth idea deliberately to perpetuate an industry that has paid them well. The validity of this prediction has been questioned by many, however, scientific explanation has proven that the Big One will happen in the future sooner or later. The bright side of the evaluation is that majority of people live in wood frame houses, which are inherently better able to withstand earthquake damage and most are built on stable, solid ground. That would be especially important if an earthquake struck at night, when most people are home. The dark side is that areas likely to be most impacted by ground shaking and soil failure in an earthquake, especially buildings in several low lying waterfront areas would likely be topple as sandy soils were subject to liquefaction just like the below figure has shown where the red parts indicate areas near the shore or the waterfront is facing structural failure and danger of collapse. • 9. Comparsion Of Iago And Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello While reading the play, Othello, by Shakespeare, you might ask yourself this question; What s the difference between Iago and Othello? Othello and Iago are very different from each other. Not only in their colours, but in their personality. However, it may be said that the two share one common flaw, their tendency to misjudge others. This common flaw was the cause of their downfall. Iago was consumed by his desire to get revenge on Othello to the extent of putting his plan into action. Othello s love and possessiveness over Desdemona overtakes him to the point where he would rather kill her than grant anyone else the privilege to have her. In this manner, despite their differences, Othello and Iago represent the same thing human emotion. Both characters can be viewed in this way throught the play. ... Othello s supposed favoring over Cassio makes Iago hatch his master plan. Unlike Iago, Othello s insecurities are much more indirect, not really making an appearance until Iago s plan follows through. His background, age, gained social status, and the fact that someone such as Desdemona would have love for someone like him, a Moor , are the source of Othello s insecurity. These insecurities lead to much bigger and negative feeling, jealousy. Iago is jealous of Cassio s position directing his hate towards Cassio and Othello. Tax System In 1990, the IRS commissioned a comprehensive nationwide survey of taxpayers to obtain their overall perception of its administration of the U.S. tax system. NPM related questions from this survey were re asked to taxpayers to determine any potential changes in response patterns (VanDenburgh 2004, 2). Several questions were re asked to allow for an assessment of differences between the 1990 responses and the 2004 responses during research by William M. VanDenburgh (2004). The concept of logic of action, which derives from institutional theory, is valuable to understanding why the IRS case is not aberrant and why there exists an implicit tension between merit ideals and the performance paradigm (Thompson 2006, 498). Patterns of behavior derive from institutional rules that create incentives to act in one way or another. They also derive from norms that have arisen over time that govern what behaviors are considered appropriate. Important for the purpose of this argument is the existence of an underlying logic according to which behavioral patterns, incentives, and norms are interlocked (Thompson 2006, 498). Adoption of a new NPM requires an agency organizational structure to become more competitive and business like. In other words, a private market focus is to be incorporated in the organization. The IRS was heavily criticized because auditors forcefully went after non filers when some IRS employees themselves were not filing tax returns (VanDenburgh 2004, 91). Due to ... Charles Mann talks about this a lot in his book 1493, and provides his readers with several examples of this problem. Some people believe that strict laws should be enforced when it comes to the movement of plants, animals, and people between distant places. I m an environmental friendly person and even support the Green Party, but I completely disagree with this. I realize that this problem exists, but I do not believe that strictly enforcing laws against the movement of live organisms is a good idea. I believe that we should loosely limit and control organisms being moved. In Charles Mann s book, 1493, he talks about several problems throughout the world including the movement of organisms from one location to a foreign location. One example that Mann provides his readers with was, worms killing terraces in Ifugao (Mann 495). The worm species Pheretima and Polypheretima are invading terraces and killing them because of their hungry appetite. These giant earthworms came from oversees and can grow up to two feet in size. They leave huge tunnels and water sluices out of them, killing the rice plants at the same time (Mann 495). I disagree with this statement because I believe it is crucial to have music education at a young age. Luckily, when I was in elementary school, there was still music education and has influenced me to become a musician because music has helped me with school and work. Having music education allows a child s brain to develop a fully active brain, since music functions the creative side of the brain. However, studies have shown that music has helped with the left side of the brain as well, allowing students to build thinking skills and raise test scores such as the SAT. Music training at a young age helps develop the brain areas that involves language and reasoning. Studies have shown that music training develops the left side of the brain, which helps processing language and help recognize patterns and memorization. Why Potato Is Becoming The Most Important Crop Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the fourth highest produced crop in the world and the most important non cereal food crop, with world production estimated to be over 350 million tons in 2013 (http://faostat.fao.org). Potato is a versatile crop, and is utilized as not only food and feed but also in industrial materials and fuels (Kikuchi et al. 2015). Potato is becoming the most important crop in developing countries and its production is expanding more rapidly than that of most other crops primarily because of increasing industrialization (Guchi et al. 2015). Potatoes in India are grown under varied climatic conditions ranging from tropics, subtropics to temperate highlands. Consequently, the spectrum of insect pests and diseases is very large and limit potato production upto 85% depending upon the weather/region. Fungal disease plays a pivotal role for yield losses. Late blight, caused by Phytophthora infestans (oomycete pathogen), is the most destructive disease of potato worldwide (CIP, 1989). During the last two decades, disease has increased globally and the average global crop loss of potato has increased upto 21.8% (Fry and Goodwin, 1997; James, 1981; Forbes, 2012). Worldwide losses due to late blight are estimated to exceed $5 billion annually and thus the pathogen is regarded as a threat to global food security (Latijnhouwers et al. 2004). • 18. Hind Swaraj And Indian Western Civilization Analysis Since the 17th century, Britain had been established on the Indian subcontinent along with the influence of its Western economic, political, military, and educational systems. In Hind Swaraj or Indian Home Rule, Gandhi repudiates Britain s Western civilization as essentially secular, failing to embody morality and religion and instead indulging in materialism. In contrast, the morally superior Indian civilization is anchored in the belief of God. Therefore, he argues that India must achieve Swaraj or self rule from Britain to preserve and embrace the true India created by its ancestors. Successful passive resistance against the British Raj, through individual swaraj or complete control over one s own physical body and soul, will enable India to cure the disease of civilization. Gandhi begins his critique of Western civilization by listing its symptoms, most importantly, industrialization. The development of machinery has transformed everyday life in Europe and has attempted to promote overall well being of the individual and society. However, Gandhi differentiates this means of progress as strictly superficial, believing these developments only promote bodily happiness and self indulgence. In the past, for example, men were required to manually plow land, but this long process evolved with the invention of the steam engine so that a single man can plow significantly more land and thereby gain the monetary rewards for the machine s efficiency. By contrasting previous ways of life to reality, Gandhi emphasizes the changes brought about by civilization and the newfound reliance on superfluous wealth to buy superfluities for the means of physical comfort. Money, Gandhi argues, is England s god and guides the pathway of Britain s goal to convert the whole world into a vast market for their goods (37). Western civilization induces moral weakness, allowing people to give in to their earthly desires, making bodily welfare the object of life (31). The illusion of wealth as the means to happiness is the focal point of civilization and will ultimately lead to its own destruction. Conclusively, Britain s persistent, yet remediable disease of Western civilization is a grossly incompetent model for India. True ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the scheme of redemptive history, liturgies of the Lutheran church are relatively new. Why should we hold so tightly to creeds and prayers and hymns that aren t a part of the Biblical canon? Just because they worked for a period of a few hundred years does not guarantee that it will continue to be effective until the end of time. Even though they are built on eternal truths, we cannot expect these liturgies to continually relate to an ever changing culture. I agree that we must not dumb worship down, but perhaps this book could have directed us to more timeless, ancient, biblical forms than merely ones from the last 500 years. The Gulag One day in the Life of Ivan Desinovich by Alex Solzhenitsyn, published in 1962 describes the Gulag as a prison used by the Soviet government under Stalin to dehumanize it s prisoners. Despite being in the Gulag, Alexander Solzhenitsyn manages to survive these experiences and describes them through the use of Ivan and his fellow protagonists. Solzhenitsyn explores this topic by employing vivid imagery while appealing to the Russian people with his symbolism and allegories. The combination of themes and motifs communicate to the Russian people how a few prisoners managed to survive in such a prison that was meant to take away their humanity and transform them into mindless slaves. The author used the theme of the struggle for human dignity, as the Gulag was designed to attack not only the character s physical and spiritual dignity. • 29. Prostate Cancer And Psa Testing 6.0 Understanding Prostate Cancer 6.1 A general discussion about prostate cancer in NZ This cancer is unusual in that it takes a long time (15 20 years or more) to progress from a localised state in the prostate to metastatic disease and death. Men whose cancer is in the localised state may have no prostate symptoms, no bleeding or pain. The tumour is too small to cause obstruction or LUTS (In older men coexisting BPH may cause LUTS, but there may be a cancer present too). Research on the incidence of Prostate Cancer and PSA testing in NZ Māori has shown that although Māori have a decreased incidence compared to all men, their mortality rate is higher, and there is a reduced rate of PSA testing. Pacific men have the same incidence and mortality as all men. A positive Family History of prostate cancer is significant, having a first degree relative (brother or father) increases the risk by 2 2.5 times, if 2 or more the risk is increased by 5 11 times. There is a genetic (hereditary disease) sub group that accounts for near 10% of cases, this is likely if three or more relatives. Prostate cancer occurs mainly in older men. Nearly two thirds are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older, and it is rare before age 40. The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 67. • 32. The Importance Of Public Health Public health is defined as the overall health of a population as whole that is often monitored and regulated by the state. Public health regulations can affect the community in their work, homes, and overall everyday life (What is Public Health?, 2017). This can include holding health fairs, ensuring places of employment are up to code, and vaccinations of children and elders in the given community. Those who work in the public health field actively works to ensure the health of the public is maintained and held to a standard that allows people to effectively live within a given community. • 34. Race, Ethnicity, And Gender Race, ethnicity, and gender has been a significant topic discussed throughout many years. However, it can has its negative cognectation because people feel superior to other people due to their race, ethnicity, social class and gender. There are many philosophical theories that relate to these discussion such as white gaze, one drop rule, and five faces of oppression. Moreover, these theories also applies to my ethnicity which is Dominican. Even though race is not a real concept, due to the fact that is a men made belief to categorize people based on their skin color, culture, and religion, it isolates people into experiencing new things. Thorough history, we have seen how blacks have been treated due to their skin color. Thus, when it sex, and gender, women are treated differently due to the idea that women have to be protected and depend on a men to provide, shelter, and provide money. Takes away the independence of a women, and not until recently, women are gaining their power and wellness. In my opinion I believe white gaze is a common practice in America and it affects many people who are not part of the white race . White race is looking at the world thought the eyes of white person. One way this affects a nonwhite person is that they face racism, or stereotypes. I chose this idea because I experienced white gaze here at Canisius College. To this day, that upset is considered by many to be the greatest moment in sports history. It was such an awe inspiring moment, that it earned the nickname, The Miracle On Ice . As such, it should be no surprise that a movie portraying that miracle was made. The movie, aptly called Miracle, chronicles the assembly of the team as seen fit by Coach Herb Brooks, and the trials and glory of the young team. It really is a one of the great underdog stories, a story about coming together and reaching for the stars or gold in this case. The movie is also a great depiction of relationships. • 41. Impact Of Global Capitalism On The World Economy Although there is no single theory to explain the spatial organisation of production regions in the world economy, we continue to see core periphery patterns and concentrations of activities in specific areas despite powerful forces of globalisation expanding markets and integrating economies. This has created a huge globally expansive network of information, capital and technical flows across regions facilitated through market liberalization, border reductions between countries and the erosion of particular places. The presence of economies of scale, scope and agglomeration play significant roles in explaining the concentration and development of economic activity in particular areas. These forces of concentration and dispersal even in the context of the expanding territorial scope of global capitalism, still remain powerful and we continue to observe the importance of place under globalisation (Massey 1984). Although natural environmental conditions are influential in the development of regions, capitalism is the dominant form of contemporary economic organisation due to historical geography. Indeed, the capitalist word economy is structured around the dynamics of specialisation and the division of labour, whereby countries produce and trade goods and services where they obtain comparative, competitive advantage and lowest opportunity cost. Latin America s massive export in goods during the 1880s led to what was known as the Great Export Boom.
