MIKE INFO, MIKE PLANNING and MIKE OPERATIONS
build on our common technology framework - MIKE
CUSTOMISED - and are fully compatible and
complementary. They come as standardised software
products but can also be tailored to your specific needs
through a range of expandability and configuration options.
MIKE INFO
A data management system for water authorities and water
utilities.
MIKE INFO is a comprehensive and flexible data
management and data integration software tool focused on
making temporal and spatial data sets available for a variety
of purposes. It supports the management, analysis,
presentation and publication of historical and online data and
information to facilitate decision making.

simulations. Mathematical models are strong tools that allows
quantification of impacts associated with different types of
scenarios, often involving construction or operation of
infrastructure such as dams, irrigation schemes, water
collection systems and distribution systems.
It supports a more objective and transparent decision process.
The underlying concept is that scenarios are evaluated and
compared using a set of agreed performance indicators or
decision criteria, after which the most appropriate scenario will
be selected.
 Manage models and scenarios
 Transparent and objective decision making
 Compare scenarios using multi-criteria analysis and cost-
benefit analysis
 Optimise water allocation and operations
 Handle uncertainties and risks
MIKE OPERATIONS
An online modelling framework designed for water forecasting,
operational control and optimisation.
MIKE OPERATIONS is designed for model-based forecast
services and for online operational control of river systems,
water collection systems and water distribution systems. It
allows you to quickly and safely build simple real-time systems
while offering flexible tools that help you deal with
complexities within real-time modelling.

GREVE FLOOD FORECASTING & WARNING SYSTEM
DHI have developed a Flood Forecasting & Warning System for
Greve on the coast of Zealand, Denmark. This easy-to-use, web-
based solution uses MIKE OPERATIONS built upon a rainfall and
water level forecast driven, fully integrated 1D-2D collection
system and tidal flow model (MIKE URBAN and MIKE 21 FM).
The system is fully automated providing newly updated 24 hour
predictions at 4 hour intervals.
You can see the latest live forecasts at greve.dhigroup.com
ODENSE MIKE INFO BASED NON-REVENUE WATER (NRW)
MONITORING SYSTEM
DHI has developed a simple yet powerful web-based,
NRW analytics environment for Leakage Managers called
MINERWA. Coupled to an existing SCADA system,
MINERWA collects actual demand information, provides
warnings of possible leaks, automatically calculates water
audit KPIs, optimises pressure controls and calculates the
economic level of leakage (ELL).

features, improvements, and products - the
following are just two examples. Please visit
www.mikepoweredbydhi.com for further
details.
MIKE POWERED BY DHI: EMBEDDING KNOWLEDGE IN TECHNOLOGY©DHI
GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE - WATER SENSITIVE URBAN
DESIGN (WSUD)
The forthcoming MIKE URBAN 2016 adds advanced WSUD
functionality enabling you to preserve and create natural
landscaping features - as well as soakaways - to establish
functional and appealing drainage systems. There are two
approaches to WSUD modelling in MIKE URBAN:
At a screening level (watershed/catchment based), MIKE URBAN
can be used to assess the cumulative impact of implementing
various green solutions within a catchment. These can include:
 Catchment based
modelling of soakaways
 Permeable surfaces
 Bio-retention cells (e.g.
green roofs)
 Infiltration trenches
 Continuous porous
pavement
 Rainwater tanks
 Vegetative swales
At a detailed hydraulic modelling (drainage network based) level,
MIKE URBAN allows detailed modelling of individual green
solutions connected hydraulically to the storm water pipe
network.
MODELLING OF WATER QUALITY OR TREATMENT IN
SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS (SUDS)
ECO Lab is the complete numerical laboratory for water
quality and ecological modelling. You can develop exactly the
model you need and describe the processes you wish. No
ecological problem is too simple or too complicated for ECO Lab:
 Open Equation solver for coupled ordinary differential
equations
 Designed for point descriptions of processes of chemistry,
ecology, etc
 All equations, parameters contained in flexible, portable ECO
Lab templates (use DHI supported templates or create your
own)
 Integrated with DHI’s hydrodynamic models.
Use of MIKE URBAN to model the water quality and treatment
processes in soakaways:
 The pollutants on the surface can be modelled dynamically
using build-up and wash-off processes – or connected as a
constant to calculated runoff directly
 Pollutants enter the soakaway with captured runoff and
treatment efficiency is modelled with ECO Lab
 If the soakaway is connected to a drainage network, the
remaining pollutants will be modelled in the pipe by MIKE
URBAN’s Pollution Transport module
Treatment processes include sedimentation, adsorption and
biological processes, and can include for dissolved COD,
ammonia, total N, dissolved P, total P, heavy metals and
coliforms among other constituents.
AUTOMATED SEWER MODEL SYSTEM FOR PUB,
SINGAPORE’S NATIONAL WATER AGENCY
In collaboration with PUB, Singapore, DHI has developed a new
and innovative sewer planning support system based on MIKE
CUSTOMISED technology. The new system, developed in
accordance with PUB’s established work processes and
specification, provides near full automation of network modelling
in order to quickly and effectively assess the implications of any
land-use changes to the sewer network.
The system allows PUB’s Catchment Managers to synchronise
updated asset data, within their existing GIS database, to a newly
created catalogue of sewer models in order to check the
adequacy of the existing sewer network, and to plan network
expansion to serve new urban development. On a scheduled
basis, the system interrogates the GIS database for changes,
automatically updates the MIKE URBAN sewer models, performs
validation checks, runs a simulation, and then re-catalogues the
updated sewer models. The user interface allows for easy
creation and maintenance of the sewer network models, and the
system can even send error reports to the managers should
models fail to validate.
In order to build the sewer models, the system has native support
for MIKE URBAN but a variety of hydraulic models may be
incorporated into the model creation and maintenance processes.
With MIKE INFO you can create your own automated
model system for storm, foul and clean water networks.
INTRODUCING MIKE 1D - NEXT GENERATION ONE-
DIMENSIONAL ENGINES FOR MIKE 11 AND MIKE URBAN
Designed for the latest hardware, fully
optimised for speed and including
advanced scripting capabilities anything
is possible!
Building upon recent studies by the
Environment Agency, using MIKE 1D
we can provide national scale
probabilistic flood forecasting systems
that can dynamically consider the risk of
breaching or failure of flood and coastal
defences (for future climate scenarios,
population growth and other factors).

Optimise the capacity of YOUR drainage infrastructure
and improve water quality by a unique hybrid approach of
retrofitting sustainable urban drainage systems and smart
management of storm water.
DHI BATHING WATER FORECAST SERVICE FOR AARHUS
More than 300,000 people live in Aarhus, Denmark’s second
largest city. The city, like many other coastal cities, has recently
undertaken the task of restoring its old industrial harbour area
into residential and recreational use. Aarhus Water – the local
water company – has 10 wastewater treatment plants that
receive 35 million m3
of wastewater per year. In 2005, the
receiving waters were affected by 75 combined sewer overflows
(CSO) spills and discharges from 58 storm water drains. In
addition, 50% of the flow in the river comes from two wastewater
treatment plants.
To support the opportunities for recreational use of the lake, river
and harbour, the City of Aarhus decided to improve the hygienic
water quality in these receiving waters. In more measurable
terms, this decision was driven by the European Water
Framework Directive and the Bathing Water Directive. Faced with
the demands of a growing city, climate change and the increased
demand for recreational use, Aarhus needed to find a way to
increase their wastewater treatment efficiency and capacity,
ensure hygienic bathing water in Lake Braband and the harbour
and improve water quality in the River Aarhus. Adding new
machinery and tanks would have strained the city’s finances, so
they turned to DHI to find a cost-effective solution.
THE DHI SOLUTION
The DHI solution was to develop a X-band Radar based,
integrated real-time control, optimisation and warning system for
urban areas and receiving waters.
Built upon MIKE OPERATIONS and underpinned by fully
integrated hydrological and hydraulic models which include the
upstream catchments, sewer network (including retention
basins), rivers and lakes, the coastal environment and the Waste
Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The new system was used to
assess the optimal location and size of additional retention basins
and to optimise the control of the sewer system and WWTP.
Aarhus Water’s ultimate investment in new infrastructure
(consisting of retention basins, disinfection at WWTP and
increased hydraulic capacity at WWTP) represented a significant
saving over the original proposals (without the optimised control
system).
The X-band (DHI LAWR) radar optimised control system enables
storm water to be stored and moved around the system
depending on where the rain is falling and the intensity of that
rainfall. Following a period of construction and commissioning,
the project has now delivered the original aims (hygienic bathing
water in Lake Braband and in the harbour and improved water
quality in the River Aarhus) plus multiple supplementary benefits
including mitigation of the risk of surface water flooding due to
our changing climate.
Integral to the project is a forecasting service to provide the
public with information on the forecast bathing. The forecast is
delivered via a web-based public warning system at
newostjylland.badevand.dk and DHI’s Bathing Water App.
The Aarhus project sets the global standard for others to follow
and is an example of a truly integrated catchment forecasting
system which includes real time operational control and
optimisation.

  • 3. 3 MIKE 2016 RELEASE - PREVIEW For MIKE 2016, we have a number of new features, improvements, and products - the following are just two examples. Please visit www.mikepoweredbydhi.com for further details. MIKE POWERED BY DHI: EMBEDDING KNOWLEDGE IN TECHNOLOGY©DHI GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE - WATER SENSITIVE URBAN DESIGN (WSUD) The forthcoming MIKE URBAN 2016 adds advanced WSUD functionality enabling you to preserve and create natural landscaping features - as well as soakaways - to establish functional and appealing drainage systems. There are two approaches to WSUD modelling in MIKE URBAN: At a screening level (watershed/catchment based), MIKE URBAN can be used to assess the cumulative impact of implementing various green solutions within a catchment. These can include:  Catchment based modelling of soakaways  Permeable surfaces  Bio-retention cells (e.g. green roofs)  Infiltration trenches  Continuous porous pavement  Rainwater tanks  Vegetative swales At a detailed hydraulic modelling (drainage network based) level, MIKE URBAN allows detailed modelling of individual green solutions connected hydraulically to the storm water pipe network. MODELLING OF WATER QUALITY OR TREATMENT IN SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS (SUDS) ECO Lab is the complete numerical laboratory for water quality and ecological modelling. You can develop exactly the model you need and describe the processes you wish. No ecological problem is too simple or too complicated for ECO Lab:  Open Equation solver for coupled ordinary differential equations  Designed for point descriptions of processes of chemistry, ecology, etc  All equations, parameters contained in flexible, portable ECO Lab templates (use DHI supported templates or create your own)  Integrated with DHI’s hydrodynamic models. Use of MIKE URBAN to model the water quality and treatment processes in soakaways:  The pollutants on the surface can be modelled dynamically using build-up and wash-off processes – or connected as a constant to calculated runoff directly  Pollutants enter the soakaway with captured runoff and treatment efficiency is modelled with ECO Lab  If the soakaway is connected to a drainage network, the remaining pollutants will be modelled in the pipe by MIKE URBAN’s Pollution Transport module Treatment processes include sedimentation, adsorption and biological processes, and can include for dissolved COD, ammonia, total N, dissolved P, total P, heavy metals and coliforms among other constituents. AUTOMATED SEWER MODEL SYSTEM FOR PUB, SINGAPORE’S NATIONAL WATER AGENCY In collaboration with PUB, Singapore, DHI has developed a new and innovative sewer planning support system based on MIKE CUSTOMISED technology. The new system, developed in accordance with PUB’s established work processes and specification, provides near full automation of network modelling in order to quickly and effectively assess the implications of any land-use changes to the sewer network. The system allows PUB’s Catchment Managers to synchronise updated asset data, within their existing GIS database, to a newly created catalogue of sewer models in order to check the adequacy of the existing sewer network, and to plan network expansion to serve new urban development. On a scheduled basis, the system interrogates the GIS database for changes, automatically updates the MIKE URBAN sewer models, performs validation checks, runs a simulation, and then re-catalogues the updated sewer models. The user interface allows for easy creation and maintenance of the sewer network models, and the system can even send error reports to the managers should models fail to validate. In order to build the sewer models, the system has native support for MIKE URBAN but a variety of hydraulic models may be incorporated into the model creation and maintenance processes. With MIKE INFO you can create your own automated model system for storm, foul and clean water networks. INTRODUCING MIKE 1D - NEXT GENERATION ONE- DIMENSIONAL ENGINES FOR MIKE 11 AND MIKE URBAN Designed for the latest hardware, fully optimised for speed and including advanced scripting capabilities anything is possible! Building upon recent studies by the Environment Agency, using MIKE 1D we can provide national scale probabilistic flood forecasting systems that can dynamically consider the risk of breaching or failure of flood and coastal defences (for future climate scenarios, population growth and other factors).
  • 4. 4 NEW DHI APP - RAIN IN DENMARK To demonstrate the capabilities of DHI’s Local Area Weather Radar (LAWR), we have released a free online service that provides you with up-to-date information on rain in Denmark (the home of DHI!). Be INSPIRED! Download our RAIN IN DENMARK and BATHING WATER Apps. Simply search ‘DHI’ at: MIKE POWERED BY DHI: EMBEDDING KNOWLEDGE IN TECHNOLOGY©DHI Optimise the capacity of YOUR drainage infrastructure and improve water quality by a unique hybrid approach of retrofitting sustainable urban drainage systems and smart management of storm water. DHI BATHING WATER FORECAST SERVICE FOR AARHUS More than 300,000 people live in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city. The city, like many other coastal cities, has recently undertaken the task of restoring its old industrial harbour area into residential and recreational use. Aarhus Water – the local water company – has 10 wastewater treatment plants that receive 35 million m3 of wastewater per year. In 2005, the receiving waters were affected by 75 combined sewer overflows (CSO) spills and discharges from 58 storm water drains. In addition, 50% of the flow in the river comes from two wastewater treatment plants. To support the opportunities for recreational use of the lake, river and harbour, the City of Aarhus decided to improve the hygienic water quality in these receiving waters. In more measurable terms, this decision was driven by the European Water Framework Directive and the Bathing Water Directive. Faced with the demands of a growing city, climate change and the increased demand for recreational use, Aarhus needed to find a way to increase their wastewater treatment efficiency and capacity, ensure hygienic bathing water in Lake Braband and the harbour and improve water quality in the River Aarhus. Adding new machinery and tanks would have strained the city’s finances, so they turned to DHI to find a cost-effective solution. THE DHI SOLUTION The DHI solution was to develop a X-band Radar based, integrated real-time control, optimisation and warning system for urban areas and receiving waters. Built upon MIKE OPERATIONS and underpinned by fully integrated hydrological and hydraulic models which include the upstream catchments, sewer network (including retention basins), rivers and lakes, the coastal environment and the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The new system was used to assess the optimal location and size of additional retention basins and to optimise the control of the sewer system and WWTP. Aarhus Water’s ultimate investment in new infrastructure (consisting of retention basins, disinfection at WWTP and increased hydraulic capacity at WWTP) represented a significant saving over the original proposals (without the optimised control system). The X-band (DHI LAWR) radar optimised control system enables storm water to be stored and moved around the system depending on where the rain is falling and the intensity of that rainfall. Following a period of construction and commissioning, the project has now delivered the original aims (hygienic bathing water in Lake Braband and in the harbour and improved water quality in the River Aarhus) plus multiple supplementary benefits including mitigation of the risk of surface water flooding due to our changing climate. Integral to the project is a forecasting service to provide the public with information on the forecast bathing. The forecast is delivered via a web-based public warning system at newostjylland.badevand.dk and DHI’s Bathing Water App. The Aarhus project sets the global standard for others to follow and is an example of a truly integrated catchment forecasting system which includes real time operational control and optimisation. DHI Water Environments (UK) Ltd Ocean Village Innovation Centre Ocean Way, Southampton SO14 3JZ Tel: +44 (0)2380 381961 mikebydhi.uk@dhigroup.com www.mikepoweredbydhi.com ABOUT DHI DHI are the first people you should call when you have a tough challenge to solve in a water environment.
