1. Fight Club Analysis
The second the sequence startswe see the production logo of Regency and the
title sequence follows this immediately after. When the actual title scenes start
there is a brief moment of total darkness and medium pace instrumental music is
abruptly interrupted by loud fast pace music. The music is a record of classical
music and the record is scratched, starting the fast back music. The first title
fades in and the first camera technique is used. The whole opening is shot in the
dollyingout style with constant panning while the titles are appearing and
disappearing. The camera shows a close up of the SFX that is used, making it look
like the inside of a brain with what could be all of the receptor nerves. This could
be the first blatant indication of the genre of the movie, being a psychological
thriller. The opening follows a tight colour scheme of blues and black and all of
the titles are in the same style, colour and font. This could be a very subtle hint to
the movie, where things being ‘the same’ are a common concept. The soundtrack
is very repetitive and the only difference in the camera is when we see an
extreme close up of the character’s sweating forehead. From this the camera
zooms out to reveal the main character’s face.
