This document discusses potential film distributors for a slasher genre media product. It notes that independent distributors like USA Films and Troma Entertainment have distributed similar films. While major studios like Universal typically do not distribute slashers, Lions Gate has distributed the Saw series. The document recommends the smaller distributor Dimension Films, as they have successfully distributed original slashers like Scream and Halloween when few others would.
1. WHAT TYPE OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?
2. As a result of our research, which we have been conducting for a few weeks now, we have found out that there are many diverse, independent film distributors for the Slasher genre. For example; USA Films and Troma entertainment which have distributed slasher films such as ‘dark nature’ and many more. However some larger film companies such as Universal Pictures don’t tend to distribute Slasher films. Nevertheless Lions Gate which are also a large film company invested in, and distributed the whole Saw series.
3. The films ‘scream ‘ and ‘halloween’ were distributed by a smaller company (Dimension Films) because they were one of the original slasher films and at that time, there were limited distributors which took interest in distributing slasher films. Dimension Films would be a appropriate distributor to allocate our film as it takes interest in Horror/slasher genre.
4. How did you attract/address your audience? Our film opening begins with the protagonist’s door ringing. She then proceeds opening it but there’s no one on the other side. This immediately sets up an enigma code, keeping the audience engaged and questioning who initially rang the door.
