• Differ from biosphere
– Biosphere – every habitable place on Earth
– Biome – Large area with similar conditions with
organisms adapting to those conditions
• Major factors: Temp and precipitation

• Note the difference in the previous
two biome graphs
• “Know” the major (big) biomes
– Have an idea of the approximate
temperature and and annual
precipitation for each
– Know the typical flora (plant life)
– Location on Earth of each

7. Relationship between
ecosystems/biomes
• Explain how the biosphere consists of
interdependent and interrelated
ecosystems.
– Interdependence Example: Many ecosystems
depend on oxygen from the rain forests, or
from algae in the ocean
– Interrelationship Example: Rising temperatures
in the poles resulting in melting of the ice
would have great effects on coastal
ecosystems all over the world
