2. What is Laparoscopic
surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery also referred
as Key hole surgery describes the
performance of surgical procedures with
the support of a video camera and many
thin instruments.
The camera transmits an image of the
organs inside onto a television monitor.
5. Laparoscopy
(group of surgery)
removal of the Gall Bladder.
removal of appendix.
Gastric banding .
gastric Bypass surgery.
removal of stones from the kidney.
Gastric Sleeve Resection for Obesity.
Kidney surgeries like Nephrectomy
6. Advantage
Reduced hemorrhaging, which reduces
the chance of needing a blood
transfusion.
Smaller incision, which reduces pain and
shortens recovery time, as well as
resulting in less post-operative scarring.
Less pain, leading to less pain medication
needed.
7. Continue…
Although procedure times are usually
slightly longer, hospital stay is less, and
often with a same day discharge which
leads to a faster return to everyday living.
Reduced exposure of internal organs to
possible external contaminants thereby
reduced risk of acquiring infections.
8. Disadvantage
High cost and technology requirement.
Special skills required for its use.
Not suitable to perform complicated
surgeries.
May need secondary open surgery.
9. Precaution After
Surgery
It is safe to resume normal activities
when you feel able.
Do not drive for 24 hours or until after
you have stopped your narcotic pain
medicine since you will be drowsy. If
your stomach is sore enough to limit
motion of your legs, wait to drive until the
soreness subsides.
