2. Introduction
Current macro-trends in the healthcare system are
prompting the advancement and evolution of care, and are
setting the stage for the future healthcare job market. These
trends include the economy, technological advancement,
demographical variations, changes in lifestyles and habits,
and mutant government policy. These macro trends impact
the healthcare delivery and quality, and they also impact the
employment market with regard to demand of certain skill
sets. These macro-trends that are now shaping the healthcare
system will shape the employment landscape for healthcare
professionals in the coming decades. There will be an
increase demand for certain roles and areas of expertise based
on new approaches and innovations in healthcare.

3. Healthcare accounts for 18% of the U.S. economy, twice
as high as in other countries.
 Between 2010 and 2020, Healthcare occupations will
increase from 0.1 million to 13.1 million jobs.
 There will be 5.6 million healthcare job openings between
2010 and 2020.

4. Emerging Macro-Tends in the U.S. Healthcare
System Industrial growth within the U.S.
Healthcare System is a byproduct of evolution
within the following Healthcare sectors:

awareness campaigns and other healthcare

 The number of aging
individuals will double in
the next few decades.
 The aging population
in the United States is
continually increasing as
the baby boomers are
becoming older.

10. Career Opportunity : Home healthcare
 Due to the increase in the aging population, home health
care will become a job opportunity in the healthcare
industry. There is a need for trained staff to go to the
homes of senior citizens to help them with everyday tasks
(Bragg & Hansen, 2015).
 With more trained clinical staff needed to take care of
patients in their home, there is also a need for home
healthcare administrators to coordinate the home
healthcare.
 Home healthcare administrators can manage the clinical
staff, make sure that necessary supplies are provided for the
staff to take care of the patients, and file all necessary
paperwork and insurance claims

11.  Increased cases of obesity
 The rise in chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, sleep apnea,
high blood pressure etc.

 Lack of physical activity and tremendous stress.

14. Career Opportunity: Public health educator
and Health services managers
Public health educator:
 These individuals will teach people about behaviors that
promote wellness.
 They develop and implement strategies to improve the
health of individuals and communities.
Health services managers:
 They ensure compliance to health and safety regulations
and will strive to improve the quality and efficiency of
health services.
 They manage and coordinate health services for clinics,
departments, or hospital facilities.
 They will seek resolution and ways to keep cost down.

 Technological advances are indispensable to people’s
health and improved quality of life.
 While technological advancements are encouraging and
have increased efficiency of healthcare systems, they
demand constant improvement and monitoring in order
to tap into their utility for the benefits of the industry.
 Technological advancements offer a variety of job
opportunities for both present and future healthcare
professionals!

 Analyze best technologies to integrate into healthcare
systems
 Develop programs to address public health needs
 Analyze different modern health technologies
 Analyze the impacts of various technologies on the
healthcare organization

provide insurance to these

thereby cutting down

 The goal of the ACA is to provide insurance to these
uninsured citizens, thereby cutting down healthcare
costs.
 ACA, the veterans’ plan, and other healthcare policies
generally hint at the future that awaits the industry
with future changes anticipated.
 The challenge of achieving and maintaining fair,
accessible, and affordable health insurance seems
unavoidable.

20. Career Opportunity: Health Policy Analysts
 They work in collecting information, analyzing potential
policies, evaluating the outcome of existing policies and
sharing information with public and government officials.
 Increase in positions that focus on the implementation of
innovative programs that raise public awareness on
understanding the stipulations of health insurance and the
importance of having coverage .
 They make sure that every citizen in each state receives the
health insurance that he or she needs.
 More people covered = more jobs to service these people
