1. The First African- American General
By. Tanner
A great African American hero is Benjamin Oliver Davis, Jr. He was a
Tuskegee Airmen and a Four Star General in the Air Force.
Benjamin was born in Washington D.C. on December 18, 1912. His Dad
Benjamin Oliver Davis, Sr. was an officer for the army. His Mom died when she
was giving birth to her third child in 1916. Benjamin was only four years old when his
Mom died. He grew up without a Mom, Benjamin worked hard and went to West
Point and was only the fourth African American graduate from that military academy
at the time.
He became a hero because he was the first African- American four star
General after World War 2. During the war he fought with the Tuskegee Airmen the
very first squadron of African American pilots allowed in the Air Force. He changed
the WORLD because he worked hard and helped prove that African Americans could
be great pilots through WW II and Korea. They thought only whites could be
Generals he proved them WRONG through his outstanding military career.
I chose Benjamin Oliver Davis, Jr. Because he was one of the most incredible
airmen in the World with The Tuskegee Airmen. I have a interest in air planes I wanted
to learn more about the great Tuskegee Airmen. When I researched them, I learned
about Benjamin Oliver Davis jr. and wanted to write about what a great hero he is.
He past away on July 4, 2002 at the age of 89. He changed the world. He proved that
it's not your ethnicity that is important it is your character and willingness to work hard
that will help you succeed!
