science experiments? What is usually the
purpose of the experiments? Were you able to
get a good result?

experiments are intended to show that people
can live and work at the bottom of the sea.

This These That Those
8. Analysis and Discussion
d. These words –
This These
That Those
-are called demonstrative pronouns.
Can you tell why they are called such?
e. Those words are not in italics because they
are adjectives – not demonstrative
pronouns. Compare them with the italicized
demonstrative pronouns.
9. Remember
A demonstrative pronoun points out a
particular person, place or thing.
Demonstrative pronouns are this, that, these
and those.
This and these point out nouns that are
near the person speaking. That and those
point out things that are far from the person
speaking.
This and that are singular. These and
those are plural.
10. Remember
How can you distinguish a
demonstrative pronoun from an
adjective?
When this, these, that and those are
used before nouns, they are adjectives,
not pronouns.
